Tuppence And His Fragrant Wife

For the last few days the Daily Mail and Mail Online have been raging about Max Mosley. They have printed acres about this shocking man and yesterday their headline screamed that even the Labour Party was no longer going to accept the filthy lucre of this pariah. Scoops from Mail Online include footage of that ‘car crash interview’, in which Max calmly and reasonably defended himself and a photo of the ‘violent thug’ which was Max as a young man – that’s a photo of  a youthful Max standing next to his mates having a fag. No evidence of any violence, just a young man smoking a fag.

The Mail are denouncing Max because of his role in what the Mail claims was a Nazi themed S&M orgy and are accusing him of having perjured himself. What is really bothering the Mail – and most other newspapers – is that Max is putting up one hell of a battle for effective press regulation. Max is an admirably robust man and because he also has a great deal of money, he represents a very real threat to the UK’s press – which has destroyed many people’s lives yet ignored very serious wrongdoing on the part of other people. British press – I probably don’t have much in common with Max, but I really admire him for taking you on. Do you think that you might have brought the demands that someone somewhere somehow reigns you in upon yourselves?

Max’s orgy of course only hit the headlines because an undercover journo joined in, filmed it and then gave the recording to the press. Max’s S&M party involved him and a number of prostitutes – except that one of them was actually a journo who was  only there to sting Max. Max is a consenting adult as was everyone at the orgy. No-one has produced any evidence that suggested that any of the prostitutes were coerced or trafficked. One of them was a PhD student who cheerfully and publicly defended Max. When Max refused to melt away, the only real problem that anyone was able to conjure up was that Max’s wife didn’t know about the orgy. That is a matter for Max’s wife to deal with, not the press.

There was of course a high profile press baron who had a great deal of sex with people to whom he was not married – Lord Rothermere, who owned the Daily Mail. Lord Rothermere was married to Patricia aka Bubbles, who in Aug 1992 died at her villa in Nice ‘from a heart attack after an overdose of sleeping pills’. Not only was Bubbles only 59, but Bubbles managed to gain possession of literally thousands and thousands of tablets, quite legally, which were found in her room after she died. These had been prescribed by Top Doctors – Bubbles had quite a few Top Doctors on tap, in Nice, in London and elsewhere as well. Bubbles’s inquest was performed by Dr Paul Knapman, an alumnus of St George’s Hospital Medical School, who for years was wheeled out to provide an innocuous explanation for suspicious deaths of high profile people. As ever, Knapman asked no questions about obviously worrying aspects to Bubbles’s death. The only Top Doctor of Bubbles’s who was named in the press who had been so liberal with the prescription pad was Douglas Rossdale, whose son is a celeb but not one known to someone of my vintage.

Bubbles died in Aug 1992. Five months after five witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were killed by a firebomb – a few more were found dead in the following months (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs). If I was someone who cared about Bubbles, I would have asked a lot of questions about her demise.

The press claimed that Max’s orgy was ‘Nazi-themed’. This really pissed Max off, because Max is the son of Oswald Mosley who was of course the leader of the British Union of Fascists and Oswald did support Hitler. Max’s mum was Diana, originally Diana Guinness, then Diana Mitford. Oswald and Diana were interned in Holloway in 1940 but in 1943 were released by Home Secretary Herbert Morrison – Peter Mandelson’s grandfather. Diana made embarrassingly appreciative comments about Hitler which no-one in politics has ever forgotten. Max has had to live with that. Max sued for libel over the allegations that his orgy was ‘Nazi- themed’ and won.

Now lest we forget – Oswald Mosley was an elected Tory MP who defected to the Independent Labour Party. He and his first wife Cynthia were committed Fabians during the 1920s. Oswald Mosley was a relative of the Queen Mum – Gawd Bless ‘Er – and when he married Cynthia, the wedding guests included King George V and Queen Mary. Diana was his second wife and he married her at the home of Joseph Goebbels. Hitler was one of the guests.

So Oswald Mosley was friendly with both the Royals and Hitler and Mandy’s grandfather released him from prison. Who exactly is in a position to have a go at Max because of who his father was?

A great many people have had it in for Max ever since he won against a British newspaper in Court.

There was of course one UK newspaper who supported Oswald Mosley and the BUF – it was the Daily Mail. Anyone know about the headline ‘Hurrah For The Blackshirts?’ Mosley had a big following among young working class men in East London – the Battle of Cable Street in 1936 took place between the Mosleyites and the Jews. There were also quite a few aristos who supported Mosley – most of the Mitford family for a start. With whom Thatcher’s friend Baroness Jean Trumpington was mates with. Not many people were as complimentary about Hitler as Diana Mosley was, but a number of British politicians from across the political spectrum did meet Hitler, usually in attempts to prevent war. Including a man called Neville Chamberlain, who was Britain’s Conservative PM. King George VI was delighted that Chamberlain had done this, as were the cheering crowds who thronged through London in celebration.

King George VI issued a statement to the serfs: ‘After the magnificent efforts of the Prime Minister in the cause of peace it is my fervent hope that a new era of friendship and prosperity may be dawning among the peoples of the world’.

Most newspapers supported Chamberlain uncritically and he received thousands of gifts, from a silver dinner service to many of his trademark umbrellas. He must have felt a bit like Lilibet did when she reached her Silver Jubilee or indeed like Charles and Di when they had that Fairytale Wedding. After Di had the fertility tests, just to ensure that she was fit for purpose. As Not The Nine O Clock News quipped at the time ‘I am 19 and do not know what I am letting myself in for’.

The Daily Mail also seems to have forgotten that pre-WWII there was a great deal of anti-semitic feeling in Britain as well as in Europe. Furthermore in the 1930s politics in the UK was polarised – people joined the Communist Party in response to what they perceived to be the threat from facism and people joined Mosley’s party in response to what they perceived to be the threat from communism.

Some elements of the British press remained anti-semitic for a long time even after the horrors of the Holocaust. Nancy Astor – ‘the first woman to be elected as an MP’ (except that she wasn’t, but that’s for another history lesson) – had a real problem with Jewish people and even in the 1960s and 1970s the Astor family newspaper – the impeccably liberal Observer – would not employ Jews.

The Mail has produced images of documents which it maintains are racist leaflets handed out by Max in the early 1960s. Max claims not to remember them and has suggested that they might be forgeries. As someone who has had documents forged about me by both the GMC and Chester Court, I think that Max might well have a point.

The Mail frothed over the racist content of the leaflets. It is certainly true that no mainstream political party today would dare publish the sort of thing that is on those leaflets. Yet the contents of those leaflets reflect common ideas of the time eg. that immigrants would introduce contagious diseases – Top Doctors perpetuated that particular idea as well because of the high rates of TB among Pakistani immigrants, which was actually a consequence of poverty.

In Butetown, Cardiff in 1952 there was a famous miscarriage of justice which resulted in the hanging of Mahmood Mattan, a Somali man who had settled in Wales. He was described in the press as a ‘savage’ and his – white – wife was completely ostracised for decades. Mattan was cleared by the Appeal Court in 1998 who presumably had forgotten that he had been killed by the state and clearing him was a bit pointless.

In the 1964 General Election, Tory candidate Peter Griffiths was elected as MP for Smethwick after some of his supporters campaigned under the slogan ‘If you want a nigger for a neighbour vote Liberal or Labour’. Griffiths refused to dissociate himself from the catchy rhyme. Griffiths lost the seat in 1966 but was re-elected as Tory MP for Portsmouth North in 1979 and remained in that seat until 1997.

In the West Midlands in the 1960s and 70s it was considered to be electoral suicide to be seen as supporting immigration. Enoch Powell took a stance in the late 1960s and during the 70s which is now seen as nakedly racist but which gained him a massive following among the electorate as result and nearly destroyed the Tory Party when he got cross with them. When I worked at St George’s Hospital Medical School, in 1990 I was told that ‘Enoch was right’ – by a young woman employed in medical research from an upper middle class family who had been to a public school, rather than by any Alf Garnett character.

Other examples of ‘shocking racism’ which I am sure that the Mail would now like to condemn include the experience of the mixed race family of a south Asian academic who moved to Llandegfan on Anglesey in the 1980s. The children were playing in the garden when they were told by some other kids that ‘you niggers shouldn’t be here’. It transpired that before the family had purchased this house in the solidly middle class village favoured by Top Doctors and university staff, a petition had done the rounds and had been handed to the previous owner, begging him not to sell the house to the nigger and his white English wife.

When I worked as a cleaner in the Bangor University halls of residence one summer in the mid 1990s, I heard the Orthodox Jews who had rented the halls for the summer described as ‘dirty Jews’. Which was quite ironic because when one considers Orthodox food preparation rituals, Orthodox Jews are a good deal less dirty than the rest of us.

In the light of the Daily Mail’s concern for sexual morality, perhaps they could explain why Sir David English – Editor of the Mail, 1971-92 and then Chairman of Associated Newspapers, the company which owns the Daily Mail – was a regular at parties thrown by George Carman QC, an alcoholic wife beater who knew about the north Wales/Cheshire paedophile ring, who was retained by Jimmy Savile, whose personal friends included bent police officers and gangsters and who successfully defended ‘Len Fairclough’ of Coronation Street fame when Fairclough stood trial for molesting two children, although Carman knew that he was guilty.

The Daily Mail knew about the criminal conduct on the part of the Top Doctors and the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales as well – because some six years ago I e mailed them about it. I received a reply from a journo so I know that they received my e mail but I heard no more…

Now, rather than having a go at Max  and suggesting that he has genetically inherited the trait for being a Nazi (is it a dominant or a recessive gene?) – whom I doubt has perjured himself because he seems to have been quite upfront about that orgy – if the Daily Mail really does want to turn its attention to matters perjury and sexual shenanigans, they could do worse than revisit the doings of two people who were given flattering coverage in the Mail Online just a few days ago – Jeffrey and Mary Archer!

Jeffrey of course has served a prison sentence for perjury and there was evidence that Mary too perjured herself but there was no prosecution. Whereas Jeffrey is simply someone who gets forgiven a great deal by a great many people, Mary is is considered untouchable. On a guest appearance on Have I Got News For You in 2002 Ian Hislop was very rude about Jeffrey. Mary came over all sanctimonious when Hislop pointed out that the reason why so many politicians were behaving so badly was that Jeffrey got away with so much. Mary plaintively asked ‘would you like another free kick?’ and received a round of sympathetic applause. A BBC audience might have been appalled at a satirist making satirical comments about a member of the Lords who has lied, swindled and cheated throughout his entire career, but someone should have explained to them that Mary Archer is no victim.

Jeffrey Archer was born in London but when he was two weeks old his family moved to Somerset, eventually settling in Weston-super-Mare. Archer spent most of his early life there. His father William died in 1956 and was 64 years old when Jeffrey was born. Early in his career, Jeffrey gave conflicting accounts to the press of his father’s supposed – but non-existent – military career. Sadly William Archer was a bigamist, fraudster and conman, who impersonated another William Archer, a deceased war medal holder. Jeffrey’s father was at different times employed as a chewing gum salesman in New York and a mortgage broker in London – in the latter capacity he was charged at the Old Bailey for fraud offences. He absconded to America under the name William Grimwood whilst on bail.

In 1951, Archer won a scholarship to Wellington School, Somerset, not Wellington College, Berkshire, as Archer has claimed in the past. Archer’s mother, Lola, was employed as a journalist on the Weston Mercury, the local newspaper. Her column ‘Over the Teacups’ frequently featured Jeffrey, under the name of ‘Tuppence’.

Tuppence left school with O levels in English literature, art and history. He spent a few years in a variety of different jobs, including training with the army and a short period with the Met. Later on Tuppence worked as a PE teacher first at a prep school in Hampshire and later at Dover College, Kent.

In 1963 Tuppence was offered a place at the Oxford University Dept for Continuing Education to study for a Diploma of Education. The course was based in the department – Tuppence became a member of Brasenose College. There have been claims that Tuppence provided false evidence of his academic qualifications to Brasenose in order to gain entrance eg. the apparent citing of an American institution which was actually a bodybuilding club. It has also been alleged that Tuppence provided false statements about three non-existent A levels and a U.S. university degree.  Tuppence’s diploma course only lasted a year, but he spent a total of three years at Oxford.

Tuppence was successful in athletics at Oxford, competing in sprinting and hurdling and becoming President of the Oxford University Athletics Club. Television coverage survives of him making a series of false starts in a 1964 sprint race, but he was not disqualified. He went on to run for England, and once successfully competed for GB.

Tuppence raised money for Oxfam, obtaining the support of The Beatles in a charity fundraising drive. The band accepted his invitation to visit the Principal’s lodge at Brasenose College, where they were photographed with Tuppence and dons of Brasenose, although they did not play there. Even as a student Tuppence was plagued with rumours of financial wrongdoing — fellow undergraduates were amazed that he owned houses and cars with personalised number plates while working part time as an Oxfam fund raiser.

After leaving Oxford, Tuppence continued as a charity fundraiser, initially working as Director General of the National Birthday Trust, a medical charity that promoted safe childbirth. He then joined the United Nations Association (UNA) as its chief fundraiser. The then Chairman of the UNA, Humphry Berkeley, alleged that there were numerous discrepancies in Tuppence’s expense claims whilst he worked at the UNA.

Berkeley’s father, Reginald, was the Liberal MP for Nottingham Central, 1922-24, so he’ll have known David Lloyd George. The Lloyd Georges were a political powerful family for many years, remained hugely influential in north Wales until very recently and a number of their members were very close to the people who facilitated and concealed the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’). Humphry attended Pembroke College, Cambridge and was President of the Cambridge Union Society and Cambridge University Conservative Association in 1948. His studies were interrupted when he was sent down for two years as a result of a practical joke in which he wrote hoax letters to public figures. Humphrey knew Rab Butler – who was Mr Tory Party for decades – Butler arranged a job for Humphrey at Conservative Central Office during this time. Butler advised Humphrey to keep the hoax letters and their replies safe, and publish them a quarter of a century later (they were published in 1974).

Berkeley set up a PR company. He was Director-General of the UK Council of the European Movement, 1956-57. In the 1959 he was elected as the Conservative MP for Lancaster. Berkeley served on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union and Council of Europe from 1963. Berkeley was a member of the  Howard League for Penal Reform.

Berkeley campaigned for homosexual law reform in the mid 1960s. In 2007 The Observer alleged that Berkeley was well known as a homosexual and was unpopular. Berkeley lost his seat in 1966, ascribing his defeat to the unpopularity of the bill on homosexuality that he had introduced.

Berkeley then became Chairman of the UNA. He employed Tuppence to organise the UNA’s flag day. Despite barely increasing the previous year’s total, Tuppence was promoted to organise a dinner at 10 Downing Street which raised over £200,000. Berkeley later accused Tuppence of making  false expenses claims whilst working for the UNA.

Some years ago the UNA organised a one day conference in north Wales on drug abuse and invited Dr Dafydd Alun Jones as a key note speaker. I made representation on the grounds that Dafydd was not an appropriate speaker and the material promoting the conference was misleading people as to Dafydd’s reputation and experience. I received a few aggressive e mails refusing to cancel the event or provide more accurate info re Dafydd, so I explained that I would therefore attend the event myself and distribute material providing details of the Mary Wynch case and other aspects of Dafydd’s career. The event was cancelled, but not before I received e mails and phone calls from someone involved with the UNA containing personal information about me which could only have been provided by Dafydd.

I later found out that the UNA conference was organised by someone who had been involved with the UNA for many, many years and who when she was young had been a personal friend of Megan Lloyd George. I understand that this lady may have been completely unaware of what Dafydd had been responsible for, but someone in the UNA will have known at least something about the controversy and complaint which has surrounded Dafydd for at least four decades.

By the time that Tuppence was employed by the UNA, Dafydd had his feet under the table at the North Wales Hospital and was involved in the serious abuse of vulnerable people.

In 1968 Humphry Berkeley resigned from the Conservative Party and joined the Labour Party in 1970. He joined the SDP in 1981 and in 1988 he rejoined Labour. The Govt’s of Ted Heath, Harold Wilson and Jim Callaghan all concealed the abuses at the North Wales Hospital and of children in care in north Wales and the associated criminality. Dr Death personally knew some of the Top Doctors who were involved.

In July 1966 Tuppence married Mary whom he met at Oxford whilst Mary was a chemistry student.

Tuppence began his career in politics at around the time he was involved with the UNA and served as a Conservative councillor on the GLC (1967–1970).

In 1969 Tuppence set up a fundraising and PR company, Arrow Enterprises. The same year he opened an art gallery in Mayfair. The gallery specialised in modern art, but lost money and Tuppence sold it two years later.

At 29, Tuppence was elected as the Tory MP for Louth in Lincolnshire, holding the seat for the Conservative Party in a  by-election in Dec 1969. The national Tory Party had concerns regarding Tuppence’s selection, specifically relating to the UNA expenses allegations made by Humphrey Berkeley. Berkeley tried to persuade Conservative Central Office that Tuppence was an unsuitable candidate. Tuppence brought a defamation action against Berkeley which kept the story out of the press, although a truncated version did appear in The Times. The case was eventually settled out of court, with Tuppence agreeing to pay the legal costs of around £30,000.

During his time as MP for Louth, Tuppence was a regular at the Immingham Conservative Club in the most working-class part of the constituency. Tuppence was on the left of the Conservative Party and rebelled against some of his party’s policies. In 1971, he employed  David Mellor, who needed money for his bar finals, to deal with his correspondence. He tipped Mellor to reach the Cabinet. David Mellor has been at the scene of many crimes. He was a junior Minister in the Home Office whilst Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and the paedophile gang in north Wales were allowed to break the law with impunity and their victims were stitched up for serious offences. Mellor was a junior Minister for Health, July 1988-Oct 1989, whilst the DHSS concealed serious criminality in the mental health services and children’s homes in north Wales. Mellor worked for Secretary of State Tony Newton – Newton was one of the Cabinet Ministers whom Alison Taylor, the whistleblowing social worker from Gwynedd, contacted directly about the abuse of children in care in north Wales. Mellor is one of those who in numerous roles ignored the activities of an organised criminal gang who killed witnesses.

In July 1992 Mellor was seriously embarrassed when his mistress Antonia de Sancha flogged her story. Mellor was later framed as a victim at the Leveson Inquiry when it was revealed that parts of de Sancha’s story were not true – I think the bit about Mellor having sex whilst wearing a Chelsea FC shirt was alleged to be untrue. Never mind Mellor, at least you didn’t spend years in a high security hospital after being sexually exploited by Dafydd and his mates and branded dangerous when you complained about it. Mellor left politics after becoming a national joke but found a new life as a DJ when LBC were daft enough to employ him.

In 1974 Tuppence was stung by a fraudulent investment scheme involving a company called Aquablast. He lost his first fortune and was left almost £500,000 in debt. Fearing bankruptcy, he stood down as an MP at the Oct 1974 General Election. By this time, Tuppence and Mary were living in a large house in an exclusive street in South Kensington which they were forced to sell.

While he was a witness in the Aquablast case in Toronto in 1975, Tuppence was accused of taking three suits from a department store. He denied the accusation for years, but in the late 1990s he finally acknowledged that he had indeed taken the suits, although he claimed that at the time he had not realised he had left the shop. No charges were ever brought.

Tuppence wrote his first book in the autumn of 1974, as a means of avoiding bankruptcy. The book was picked up by the literary agent Deborah Owen – Dr Death’s wife – and was published first in the U.S., then in Britain in the autumn of 1976. Dr Death became an MP in 1974, was a junior Minister in the DHSS, 1974-76, then a junior Minister in the Foreign Office, 1976-77 and then Foreign Secretary, 1977-79. A Radio 4 adaption of Tuppence’s first book was broadcast in the early 1980s, by which time Dr Death and the gang of four had made the Limehouse Declaration and hopeful people believed that Dr Death was on the way to being PM. Dr D.G.E. Wood, the corrupt GP who was assisting the paedophile gang and sex traffickers in north Wales, really loved Dr Death. Brown observed that Wood was aligning himself with shits in his own profession once more. A BBC TV adaptation of Tuppence’s book was broadcast in 1990, by which time Dr Death had mercifully imploded.

In 1976 Mary  started lecturing in chemistry at Newnham and Trinity Colleges, Cambridge – she remained doing until 1988. So Mary caught the tail end of Mr Tory Party Rab Butler, who was Master of Trinity College, 1965-77. From 1984 to 1991, Mary was a Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum Trust in Cambridge.

In 1977 Mary became a Lloyds ‘name’.

In 1979 Tuppence and Mary purchased the Old Vicarage, Grantchester, a house associated with Rupert Brooke. Every summer, Tuppence and Mary host a lavish garden party in the grounds to celebrate their wedding anniversary. By the early 1980s Tuppence was back in a comfortable financial position and began to hold shepherd’s pie and Krug parties for those to whom he thought it was worth ingratiating himself at his London apartment, which overlooks the Thames and Parliament.

‘Kane and Abel’ (1979) proved to be Tuppence’s best-seller. Like most of Tuppence’s early work it was edited by Richard Cohen. It was made into a TV mini-series by CBS in 1985. The following year, Granada TV screened a 10-part adaptation of another Tuppence bestseller, ‘First Among Equals’. Granada have done Dafydd and the paedophiles many a favour – over years they studiously avoided reporting anything at all about them, even on flagship investigative programmes such as ‘World In Action’.

As well as novels and short stories, Tuppence wrote three stage plays. The first opened in 1987 and ran at the Queen’s Theatre in the West End for over a year. The next one was not well received and closed after a few weeks. Tuppence’s final play opened at the Theatre Royal, Windsor in Sept 2000, before transferring to the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in the West End in Dec 2000.

In 1988 Kathleen Burnett accused Tuppence of plagiarising a story that she’d written. Tuppence denied doing any such thing, claiming he’d simply been inspired by the idea.

In 1988 Mary Archer joined the Council of Lloyds Insurance Company, becoming Chair of the Lloyds Hardship Committee the following year.

Tuppence’s political career revived in the 1980s and he became a popular speaker among the Conservative grassroots. He was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party by Thatch in Sep 1985. Tebbit – the Party Chairman – had misgivings, as did others, including Willie Whitelaw and Ted Heath. I am wondering whether like a few other people, Tuppence had found out about the Westminster and Whitehall figures who were abusing children and the lengths to which people at the very top of every major political party were going to conceal this. By 1985, Tebbit, Whitelaw and Heath were all deeply compromised in that they knew about serious criminality. Whitelaw was in it up to his eye-balls, he had been frankly blackmailed by campaigners for a fourth Welsh language TV channel over his concealing of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal (see posts ‘The Cradle Of Filth’ and ‘A Bit More Paleontology ‘). Lord Wyn Roberts twisted Thatcher’s arm over exactly the same matter in order to achieve the Welsh Language Act (see post ‘The Cradle Of The Filth’). Tuppence taking a leaf out of their book would explain why he bagged the role of Deputy Chairman in the face of opposition from the grandees.

During his tenure as Deputy Chairman, Tuppence was responsible for a number of embarrassments, including claiming during a live radio interview that many young, unemployed people were simply unwilling to find work. At the time, unemployment in the UK stood at a record 3.4 million. Tuppence was later forced to apologise, saying that his words had been ‘taken out of context’.

Tuppence resigned as Deputy Chairman in Oct 1986 due to a scandal caused by an article in The News Of The World, ‘Tory boss Archer pays vice-girl’, which claimed that Tuppence had paid Monica Coghlan, a prostitute, £2,000 through an intermediary at Victoria Station to go abroad.

Two months after Tuppence was exposed in the News Of The World, I was unlawfully arrested and detained by Dafydd at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh (see posts ‘How I Arrived At Denbigh’ and ‘Behind The Scenes – At The North Wales Hospital Denbigh’).

After Tuppence resigned as Deputy Chairman of the Tory Pary, Peter Morrison took over the role. Morrison was the MP for Chester and a member of the paedophile gang which was facilitated by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and others and was operating in north Wales/Cheshire. A number of leading Tories from that era including Edwina Currie, Rod Richards and Gyles Brandreth have confirmed that Morrison’s activities were well-known, openly gossiped about and that Thatcher was explicitly warned about what he was doing.

It seems that sending victims of and witnesses to those involved with the Westminster Paedophile Ring abroad was the accepted way of doing things in the 1980s. I knew of two students at Bangor University who, like me, found out some of what was happening – one went to America after Wood’s wife, who was a lecturer in the University, arranged matters and Wood tried to coerce the other one into emigrating to Australia and even arranged a job there for her, although the thought terrified her (see post ‘Just A Language Divide?’). Wood became very angry when this young woman became distressed and refused to be transported to the other side of the world. Down in south Wales, George Thomas aka Lord Tonypandy paid a man who had been abused by him to begin a new life in Australia (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’).

God knows how much of this was going on if I personally knew of two students on the same degree as me at Bangor who were identified as needing to be dealt with in this way.

Shortly after The News of the World story broke, the Daily Star ran a story alleging that Tuppence had paid for sex with Coghlan, something that The News Of The World had been careful to avoid stating . Tuppence responded by suing the Daily Star. The case came to court in July 1987. Explaining the payment to Coghlan as the action of a philanthropist claiming that he had been ‘duped’ by her and set up by the News of the World, Tuppence won the case and was awarded £500,000 damages, a record amount in a libel action at the time. The action cost Express Newspapers – which owned the Daily Star – more than £1 million. Tuppence’s Counsel was Robert Alexander QC.

Now here are a few Interesting Facts about Robert Alexander. Alexander was born and died in areas with long standing paedophile rings which resulted in serious criminal activity in the 1980s – Staffordshire and Lambeth. Alexander went to Brighton College – the old school of Keith Best, a barrister and the Tory MP for Ynys Mon, 1979-87, who in his capacity as a junior Minister in the Welsh Office concealed the paedophile and sex trafficking gang operating in north Wales (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’). Best was a Brighton Borough Councillor, 1976–80. John Allen, who owned and managed the Bryn Alyn Community in north Wales where children were severely abused, also owned brothels in Brighton to which he trafficked children in care from north Wales. Allen is now serving yet another prison sentence for abusing children. After his election, Best was driving when his car was involved in an accident resulting in the death of his personal assistant. Best was cleared of responsibility.

In Sept 1987, Best was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for fraud in relation to his application for BT shares and was fined £3,000. On 5 Oct 1987, the Court of Appeal released him but increased his fine.

Peter Morrison was appointed as Energy Minister with responsibility for oil in June 1987 (see post ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’) – the month before Tuppence hit the jackpot at the libel trial. During this month, the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal was at its height. This provided a most useful distraction from the child abuse and criminal activities in north Wales at a time when Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I were all raising concerns and producing evidence of serious criminality (see post ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas And The Culprits Were Named’). Two of the leading lights in the paedophile gang in north Wales – Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth – had previously worked in Gateshead and Dr Neil Davies and Professor Bob Woods, two colleagues of Dafydd’s, had worked in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne before they joined Dafydd et al in north Wales (see post ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection?’). Lord John Walton, President of the GMC, 1982-89 (whilst complaints about Gwynne the lobotomist and Dafydd poured in but no action was taken) and the BMA 1980-82, provided an umbrella for Dafydd et al for years – John Walton was Mr Newcastle Medical School (see post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’).

In Jan 1987 Alison Taylor, the whistleblowing social worker from Gwynedd, told Thatcher that she had witnessed children in care being abused in north Wales. In March 1987, David Gillinson was imprisoned for gross indecency against a boy in care in north Wales. Gillinson was a leading light in the Chester branch of CHE (the Campaign for Homosexual Equality). A number of people alleged that the branch was a front for paedophilia.

Whilst Tuppence was hamming it up in Court, the north Wales mental health services attempted to frame and imprison me for ‘stabbing a doctor’ – Risley Remand Centre and the Mental Health Act Commission colluded with this (see post ‘Workers’ Play Time’). Shortly after, Dafydd tried to threaten and then bribe me  into dropping my complaints – Brown was listening in to the phone call and wrote to Gwynedd Health Authority about the matter. He did not receive a reply. The attempt to fit me up for trying to stab someone failed but the police did bring a public order charge against me and an ‘expert opinion’ was supplied by Dr James Earp, a forensic psychiatrist in Leicester. Earp concealed the criminal actions of Dafydd et al in north Wales (see post ‘An Expert From England’). At the time, Earp and his colleagues were concealing the abuse of children in Leicestershire, with which Frank Beck and Greville Janner were involved (see post ‘Radical Leicester and Some Other Free Radicals’).

In Oct 1987 DCS Gwynne Owen, who had been given responsibility for investigating the assaults on children in north Wales which Alison Taylor had reported, submitted a second report to the CPS regarding Alison, saying that ‘there is every likelihood…she will manipulate others in the future to make similar complaints’. Every mental health patient whom I knew in north Wales who complained about Dafydd and the paedophiles’ associates was branded ‘manipulative’. I later discovered that the same word was used to describe the kids in care who complained about being abused. Even the whistleblower was manipulative.

Those poor put-upon paedophiles and gangsters – all they had was the full force of the Gov’t and the security services in the face of these manipulative bastards who were complaining about being beaten up, sexually assaulted, fitted up and wrongfully imprisoned…

Alison was sacked from her job as a social worker with Gwynedd County Council in Dec 1987. The Director of Gwynedd Social Services was Dafydd’s mistress Lucille Hughes.

Robert Alexander was Chairman of the Bar Council, 1985-86. He was given a peerage in July 1988. In July 1988 Elizabeth Butler-Sloss submitted her whitewash regarding the extent of the horror which was the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal (see post ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas And The Culprits Were Named’) which was a useful distraction to complaints that there was serious criminality in north Wales involving organised child abuse.

Robert Alexander was Chairman of the NatWest Bank, 1989-99 and the President and Chair of the Marylebone Cricket Club – from which Tuppence was suspended for 7 years in 2002 in the wake of his conviction for perjury . Robert Alexander sat on the Wakeham Commission – John Wakeham had been Secretary of State for Energy whilst Peter Morrison was a Minister in that Dept.

Robert Alexander was Chancellor of Exeter University, 1998-05. Sir Steve Smith, the VC of Exeter University, was appointed in 2002. Smith had previously been Senior PVC at Aberystwyth University and whilst he was in post there was a great wailing and a gnashing of teeth. Aber had for years been churning out law graduates who provided great assistance to the paedophile gang once those law graduates had embarked on careers as lawyers and judges, but when Sir Steve started giving out the orders, Aber really hit the buffers.

In the wake of Smith being appointed VC  at Exeter, Professor Edzard Ernst became involved in a dispute with Prince Charles regarding complementary medicine. Edzard had a nasty habit of conducting rigorous research which demonstrated that homeopathy and a number of other complementary therapies were clinically ineffective. Charles’s Secretary Sir Michael Peat pressurised the University to discipline Ernst for being a competent scientist who refused to fabricate his results. Edzard was investigated by the University and cleared but was then frozen out by the University authorities. Fundraising for his unit ceased and the unit was gradually strangled. Edzard took early retirement, but he now maintains an excellent website exposing bad science.

Edzard’s book ‘A Scientist In Wonderland’ provides a full account of what Exeter University did to him when Charles got cross.

In 2012, Sir Steve Smith – together with the Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth University – announced the demerger of Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry and the establishment of the University of Exeter Medical School and the Plymouth University ‘Peninsula’ Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. That institution is collaborating in the research fraud that is Professor Mark Williams’s Mindfulness – Williams discovered the miracle of Mindfulness when he worked in Bangor with the paedophile gang in the late 1980s (see post ‘The Biggest Expert Of The Lot’). Some of the leading lights in patient abuse in Gwynedd at that time such as Keith Fearns are thanked and cited in Williams’s work. Mark Williams denied a holocaust on the level of David Irving.

For details of my own experiences with Sir Steve’s Medical School, please see post ‘NHS Chief Executive Collapses In Court After Being Spared Jail’.

Meanwhile photos of Steve appeared in the Times Higher at social events with a glass of champagne in his hand accompanied by quotes from students telling the readers what a great bloke he was. It’s quite easy to get students to do this, you just select undergrads who aren’t working with people like Edzard Ernst and supply them with nibbles and booze and then you send Steve along to do his man of the people bit and sink a bit of alcohol in front of the students and they leave happy. The same sort of tactics can be employed when it’s time for the students to fill in their National Student Survey forms, you feed them pizza and chocolate brownies and then give them the forms to complete.

Brown tells me that the technique works with external inspectors as well – but it takes a little bit more skill than with the undergrads. You’ve got to give the inspectors a good lunch, but you mustn’t make it too good or it looks like you’re trying to bribe them. I’m sure that Sir Steve has it down to a fine art.

I’m happy to tell those readers who don’t work at the coal face in universities that Laurie Taylor’s Poppleton University column in the Times Higher doesn’t begin to capture the insanity which has been inflicted upon universities since Blair and Lord Adonis had a few brainwaves.

Laurie Taylor’s son Matthew was Blair’s policy advisor.

Some years ago Bangor University received a gift from Exeter University in the form of Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, a fighter for gender equality. Hilary nearly destroyed Bangor in the short time that she was there and was such a wrecking ball that people seriously wondered if she was being paid by a rival institution to damage Bangor. Hilary left after a major disagreement with the VC whose institution probably wouldn’t have been still standing if she had remained at Bangor much longer. She then re-appeared at Swansea University. Since Hilary’s arrival, the students at Swansea have protested, senior staff have resigned and the Business School almost imploded. But Hilary has won an award for being an inspirational woman and has had her photo taken with Princess Anne. For the details of Hilary’s time at Bangor, see post ‘News Round-Up, March 16 2017’.

In 1990, the corrupt barrister George Carman – who knew about the paedophile gang in north Wales/Chesire as well as about the politicians and Whitehall mandarins who were abusing children and who was retained by Jimmy Savile (see posts ‘No Ordinary Methods’ and ‘No Ordinary Methods – Supplementary Post’) – acted for businessman Rolf Schild in a libel case against Express Newspapers. Carman lost against Robert Alexander QC, who was acting for Express Newspapers. Judge Sir William Mars-Jones upheld an appeal against Carman. Despite Carman’s defeat – and Carman was a barrister whom it was alleged hated losing – Carman remained good mates with Sir John Junor, the Editor of the Sunday Express and they enjoyed a good lunch together shortly after Carman lost the appeal.

As for William Mars-Jones – he was a farmer’s son from Denbighshire who hit the big time and was President of UCNW (Bangor University), 1982-95), whilst Gwynne the lobotomist and Dr DGE Wood the corrupt GP worked in the Student Health Centre, facilitating the sex trafficking gang. Not only that, but whilst Mars-Jones was President, both the Depts of Social Work and Psychology at UCNW contained staff who had worked with the paedophile gang and trained people who then worked with the paedophile gang after they graduated. Other people in UCNW were associated with the paedophile gang as well and yet more people in the institution knew about it all and were keeping schtum. Dafydd himself exerted considerable influence over UCNW and the Principal Sir Charles Evans who had worked as a neurosurgeon in Liverpool knew what was going on but wasn’t that concerned (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’).

William Mars-Jones intimidated everyone in north Wales what with being based in London and spending his time troughing in the Garrick with lawyers and judges (see post ‘A Big Umbrella’). The Garrick is also very popular with thespians – Tuppence basked in the light of his success in West End theatres…

I have retold the tale of the 1990 case involving Carman, Alexander, Rolf Schild, John Junor and Express Newspapers because it illustrates something that I have become acutely aware of whilst researching for this blog – that where this bunch are concerned, deals were very obviously done behind closed doors which were not always for the benefit of the client who thought that they had purchased legal representation. If any of the parties involved had knowledge of Thatcher’s mate or any of the others who were having sex with children or of victims and witnesses who were being found dead, it was that which provided the focus for the horse-trading.

The Presiding judge over the libel trial, Mr Justice Caulfield, was quite taken with Tuppence’s bird. When instructing the jury, Justice Cocklecarrot commented: ‘Remember Mary Archer in the witness-box. Your vision of her probably will never disappear. Has she elegance? Has she fragrance? Would she have, without the strain of this trial, radiance? How would she appeal? Has she had a happy married life? Has she been able to enjoy, rather than endure, her husband Jeffrey?’

Cocklecarrot then went on to say of Tuppence, ‘Is he in need of cold, unloving, rubber-insulated sex in a seedy hotel round about quarter to one on a Tuesday morning after an evening at the Caprice?’.

There is evidence to suggest that Tuppence most certainly was, despite the elegant, fragrant Mary. Cocklecarrot made derogatory comments about every aspect of Monica, including her ‘green leatherette suit’. Monica was actually doing a roaring trade in London at the time – as of course was John Allen, using the boys from the children’s homes in north Wales which had ended up in his clutches thanks to Dafydd and Lucille – so there clearly was no shortage of men with money to spend who were quite keen on the idea of green leatherette suits and other things. Furthermore, as many commentators mentioned at the time, men do not use prostitutes because the missus is too fat and ugly to get a man. Like those bloody feminists.

Cocklecarrot did and said a few other strange things in that trial as well. After the jury had begun their deliberations, Cocklecarrot recalled them after admitting to 12 ‘inaccuracies and mistakes’ in his summing up, following written representation from the defence Counsel. Cocklecarrot’s conduct was described as ‘extraordinary’ by many observing lawyers. Cocklecarrot also expressed his deep gratitude to the jury after they had to endure a whole three week trial and excused them from jury service for 15 years. Which reminds me of the Peter Cook quip re the biased judge modelled on Jeremy Thorpe’s trial ie. ‘now you must retire – as must I’.

If I suggested that the jury might have discovered that their bank accounts were so flush in the wake of that trial that they’d never have to work again anyway, no doubt someone would sue me for libel.

Nearly all information about Cocklecarrot  has disappeared from the internet.

As for Monica who was roundly insulted by Cocklecarrot – she was born in Greater Manchester in 1951 and suffered a troubled childhood, leaving school at 15. After leaving home Monica was the victim of a violent sexual attack and forced to leave her flat. She was working as a prostitute at 17, and in the next 18 years was convicted of shoplifting, possession of cannabis and prostitution and served two prison terms. In 1985 she had a son, Robin, and moved into a small bungalow in Rochdale. For most of the week she cared for her son alone following the death of her partner – it was her partner’s death which prompted Monica to return to prostitution – and at weekends Robin was left with neighbours or relatives whilst Monica worked as a prostitute in London.

Monica picked Tuppence up at Shepherd Market in Mayfair in Sept 1986. Aziz Kurtha, an Indian businessman, saw them together and sold the story to the News of the World. Monica did not know who Tuppence was when she met him – she said that he told her he was a car salesman. Rather than print the unverified story, the News of the World decided to organise a ‘sting’ by getting Coghlan to ask Tuppence for money to stay silent. On 24 Oct 1986, the News Of The World filmed and audiotaped Michael Stacpoole, a representative of Tuppence, giving Coghlan £2,000 in £50 notes on Platform 3 of London’s Victoria Station to leave the country.

Coghlan received £6,000 for her part in the newspaper sting and was initially reluctant to take part at all. Many journalists who worked on that story were convinced that she was telling the truth. Monica stood by her story until her death. In court Monica was in tears, distressed at the ordeal to which she was being subjected. Accused of lying by Robert Alexander QC, Monica replied: ‘He’s the liar…. Just because he’s got power and money…I might be a prostitute, but I’ve never harmed anybody, okay, I’ve just survived all my life. He knows that it’s him, he knows it’.

Monica stopped working as a prostitute after the trial and worked as a bingo caller, but Rochdale continued to associate her with prostitution and scandal. She later said that ‘Jeffrey Archer took everything away from me, I lost my home, my dignity, my self-respect, and any hope of a future’.

Whilst Justice Cocklecarrot, Tuppence and Mary were busy in Court, I was living in Leicester with Brown. I was still trying to get some answers out of the north Wales mental health services so I wrote constantly. I had become so frustrated at the threats, the harassment, the criminality and the obvious naked corruption that a lot of my letters contained satirical comments. I had been following Tuppence’s trial and in one of my letters to Alun Davies – one of the corrupt managers of the mental health services in north Wales – which I wrote shortly after the trial ended, I made a reference to Aziz Kurtha, who had commented that if one lies with dogs one will catch fleas. Many years later after my lawyer served a High Court injunction upon the North West Wales NHS Trust to force them to release my files which they had unlawfully witheld, I found copies of all the letters that I’d written, including the letter in which I referred to Tuppence’s trial and Aziz Kurtha. Guess what? Someone had underlined my comments about Tuppence’s trial and Aziz Kurtha’s evidence…I could find no reference as to who had done this or why they had done it, but it was very obvious. I of course did not receive a reply to my letter which was dealing with serious matters, but what had really bothered someone was my interest in the adventures of Tuppence and the man who had taken the evidence against him to the tabloids.

Without knowing that this had happened, because my letters about serious criminal misconduct were going unanswered at about this time I rang the North Wales Hospital Denbigh in an attempt to speak to Dafydd himself. I was being fed what were obvious lies by his secretary – ‘he’s not here’, ‘we don’t know where he is’, ‘we don’t know when he’ll next be here’ – and I got so fed up that I said ‘well tell him I’m speaking to a tabloid newspaper tomorrow’ and I put the phone down. Twenty minutes later the phone rang and Brown answered it – Brown handed me the phone saying ‘that worked a treat, it’s Jones…’

So it was!

Poor old Jones – he still couldn’t find it in him to answer my questions and investigate my complaint, all I got were more attempts at bribery and corruption…

Tuppence – do you know anything about any of this???

Although Tuppence and er indoors claimed they were a normal, happily-married couple at the time of the trial, according to the journalist Adam Raphael they were living largely separate lives. Lloyd Turner, the editor of the Daily Star, was sacked six weeks after the trial by the paper’s Chairman David Stevens. On 27 March 1987 – two months before the trial -Stevens had been given a peerage. Stevens sat as a Tory until 2004, then defected to UKIP.  Raphael found proof that Tuppence had perjured himself at the trial, but his superiors were unwilling to take the risk of a libel case. The News of the World later settled out of court with Tuppence, acknowledging they, too, had libelled him. David Montgomery, the former Editor of the News of the World, admitted to the Star libel jury that the story ‘implied’ that Tuppence had sex with Monica.

Rupert Murdoch owned the News of the World. By the time that Tuppence was suing people for libel and Montgomery was admitted to libelling Tuppence when he hadn’t, Montgomery had been promoted by Murdoch to the post of Director of News (UK) Limited, a subsidiary of News International.

Tuppence’s mate Thatcher and Murdoch had a symbiotic relationship – Thatch passed laws enabling Murdoch to break the print unions and in return Murdoch ensured that Thatcher carried on winning elections. When Montgomery left Murdoch’s employment Murdoch became Chief Executive of Mirror Group plc, in the wake of Cap’n Bob going overboard. (Am I really the only person who believes that Cap’n Bob was not the sort of man to kill himself, even if he had stolen the pension fund and knew that he was about to be caught?) Not only was Montgomery related to the Lloyd George clan by marriage, but he was a big mate of Amanda Platell. Platell was William Hague’s Press Officer, 1999-01 – which covered the period of the publication of the Waterhouse Report when Hague anticipated being in need of as many friends in the media as possible. For details of Montgomery, Platell and Platell’s people, see post ‘Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Out Of The Media?’

Lord Stevens Chaired United Newspapers for many years – the company was founded by David Lloyd George. In 1996, United Newspapers took over MAI, the consortium which formed Meridian Broadcasting in 1991 – in 1994 the company brought Anglia Television. By 1994 Mary Archer was a Director of Anglia Television. Mary was a non-executive Director of Mid Anglia Radio plc, 1988-95, which I think was also part of Meridian.

In 1988 Mary Archer joined the Council of Lloyds Insurance Company, becoming Chair of the Lloyds Hardship Committee the following year.

When Saddam Hussein suppressed Kurdish uprisings in 1991, Tuppence, along with the Red Cross, set up the charity Simple Truth, to fund raise for the Kurds. In May 1991, Tuppence organised a charity pop concert starring Rod Stewart, Paul Simon and Gloria Estafen, who all performed for free. Tuppence claimed that his charity had raised £57,042,000, though it was later revealed that only £3 million came from the Simple Truth concert and appeal. The rest was from aid projects sponsored by the British and other governments, with significant amounts pledged before the concert. The charity would later result in further controversy.

In Feb 1991 HM Lilibet knighted Peter Morrison. I was sitting in Springfield Hospital at the time facing serious charges as a result of the perjury of those in the north Wales mental health services.

By May 1991 allegations of a paedophile ring in north Wales involving Thatcher’s Ministers were flying and had appeared in the London-based press. Police investigations were underway but repeatedly failed to find any evidence.

By May 1991 I had been hounded out of my job at St George’s Hospital Medical School, whose staff – along with the staff of Springfield Hospital the associated mental health unit – had colluded with the criminal activities of Dafydd, Tony Francis (Dr X) and Gwynedd Social Services (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London…). My best friend from school who knew what had happened to me in north Wales and had wanted to make a documentary about it had been unlawfully dismissed from her job at the Royal Television Society. Her husband worked at the BBC in London and was told that they would ensure that he ‘never worked in this town again’. Shortly after, he was transferred to Manchester and was then made redundant. Another of my housemates from my days at Bangor was gradually being forced out of his job with a pharmaceutical company in Kent.

At the same time I was fighting further battles with the north Wales mental health services as they repeatedly tried to imprison me – although their own lawyers and the MDU knew that they had perjured themselves (see post ‘The Sordid Role Of Sir Robert Francis QC’). By March 1991 I was back living near Bethesda – yet cases against me were being heard in London and on one occasion in the spring of 1991 I was even summoned to the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand.

On 7 May 1991 Yorkshire Television screened ‘The Secret Of Castle Hill’, a documentary about the abuse of children in a school in Shropshire for which the headmaster Ralph Morris was imprisoned (see post ‘The Mentor’). Yorkshire Television had originally planned to make a film about the abuse of children in north Wales and even filmed Alison Taylor in Sept 1989 for the documentary. In Feb 1990 Yorkshire Television abandoned the documentary about north Wales in favour of one about Castle Hill. Between June 1987-July 1990 Peter Morrison was Minister of Energy with responsibility for oil. Unbeknown to me, even though I was working in London at the time, in April 1989 Tony Francis, Lucille Hughes et al in collaboration with the Welsh Office and the Mental Health Act Commission were carrying out a plan to have me declared dangerous and incarcerated in a secure hospital. The plan’s grand finale took place in Oct 1989 when Dr Chris Hunter, a forensic psychiatrist of whom I had never heard let alone met, held a case conference about me in north Wales, declared me ‘extremely dangerous’ and offered everyone a court report about me – not that I was under arrest or facing any charges (see post ‘The Night Of The (Dr Chris) Hunter’).

On 30 May 1991 the Report into the Staffordshire Pindown Scandal was published – this Report condemned the abuse of children which had occurred but went nowhere near to admitting the extent of the criminality involved or the number of people who colluded with it (see post ‘Always On The Side Of The Children’).

On 15 March 1992 dawn raids were carried out on properties in the Wrexham area and 17 people were arrested, all of whom were former or serving staff of Bryn Estyn. Everyone arrested but four was released without charge by the end of the day. Police claimed that no evidence of child porn or a paedophile ring had been discovered. Of the four charged, only three were ever convicted – some three years later.

Having previously been rejected for a peerage, Tuppence finally became Lord Tuppence on 27 July 1992. On 9 April 1992, John Major won the General Election – the nation had a choice of three potential PMs, Major, Kinnock and Paddy Pantsdown, all of whom knew about Westminster figures abusing children and the carnage in north Wales as a result of silencing witnesses. Peter Morrison stood down as an MP at that election. Days later five witnesses to the paedophile ring which didn’t exist in north Wales were killed by a firebomb which was thrown into a flat in Brighton whilst they attended a party there (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’). Days later the man who had allegedly confessed to starting the blaze was killed when he was hit by a lorry on a quiet country road. One party goer who survived claimed that witnesses to the wrongdoing in north Wales were being murdered. He was later found dead after giving evidence against John Allen in court, days before he was due to receive a payment from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.

A whole batch of people received peerages in 1992 – including John Wakeham, Peter Morrison’s former boss – and virtually all of them had played a role in concealing the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal.

PM John Major recommended Tuppence for a peerage because of Tuppence’s role in aid to the Kurds. Tuppence and Major had been friends for some years. Major had been a junior Health Minister in Thatcher’s Gov’t when the barrel of shit in north Wales was being concealed by Ken Clarke (see post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’). Major had worked in the DHSS as a Minister whilst Trumpers was a Health Minister, when Trumpers appointed Jimmy Savile to the management team of Broadmoor – although it was actually Trumpers’s colleague Edwina Currie who took the rap for it years later. Savile’s mate Alan Franey, the former Assistant General Manager of Leeds General Infirmary, was appointed CEO of Broadmoor. Whilst Savile was in post, two female patients killed themselves as a result of his abuse of them. During Major’s time at the DHSS, Brian McGinnis was the Whitehall mandarin responsible for mental health and high security hospitals – McGinnis was later banned from working with children (see post ‘Socio-Political Context Of The North Wales Mental Health Services In The 1980s’).

In a speech in Oct 1993 at the Conservative conference, Tuppence urged Home Secretary Michael Howard, to ‘Stand and deliver’, saying: ‘Michael, I am sick and tired of being told by old people that they are frightened to open the door, they’re frightened to go out at night, frightened to use the parks and byways where their parents and grandparents walked with freedom … We say to you: stand and deliver!’. Tuppence then attacked violent films and urged tougher prison conditions to prevent criminals from re-offending. He criticised the role of ‘ do-gooders’ and finished off the speech by denouncing the opposition party’s law and order policies. This was a time when Tuppence was actively seeking another front-line political role.

At the same conference John Major launched his Back to Basics campaign. If any of those old maids of whom Major was so fond had been cycling to church in the mist after having witnessed the wrongdoing of Dafydd they’d have been run over and killed in yet another uninvestigated hit and run.

In 1993 I was prosecuted at Bangor Magistrates Court for staring at a social worker, Jackie Brandt, in Safeways – the original allegations were that I had yelled and sworn at her, but once in the witness box Brandt started crying and admitted that she’d told a pack of lies. Brandt attempted to have me arrested on another two occasions as well and many years later when I was leaving a dentists in Bangor, Brandt’s husband started yelling and shaking his fist at me in front of a packed waiting room. There were never any investigations into Brandt or her husband but there were a lot of investigations into me.

Mary Wynch – who had some years previously successfully sued Dafydd and the Home Office after she was unlawfully arrested, imprisoned and then detained in the North Wales Hospital for a year – was stuffed over and ruined by Michael Howard and the Home Office in 1994 (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’).

In Oct 1993 Ron Davies was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Wales. Ron had previously been an education advisor for Mid-Glamorgan Education Authority whilst that Authority failed to act on complaints of school teacher John Owen sexually abusing his pupils (see post ‘Yet More Inglorious Bastards’). In Oct 1998 Ron resigned as Secretary of State for Wales after he was caught with his trousers down in the company of a male prostitute called Boogie – just as Blair was about to inflict him on Wales as First Secretary (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’). After Ron was exposed – so to speak – people came crawling out of corners in south Wales saying that he was a deeply unpleasant man and that his visits to gay massage parlours from which he returned ‘looking relaxed’ were common knowledge.

It was at the time that Ron became Shadow Secretary of State for Wales – his big break – that two witnesses to child abuse and criminality condoned by the authorities in north Wales had their lives wrecked as described in my post ‘It’s All About Protecting Children’.

On Question Time in Jan 1994, Tuppence said that 18 should be the age of consent for gay sex, as opposed to 21, which it was at the time. Tuppence though was opposed to the age of consent for gay men being 16.

It was at this time that Robert Kilroy-Silk presented a debate regarding the age of consent for gay sex on his show. The most dreadful bunch of bigots had been invited on, including a Top Doctor who told a lot of lies – he came out with the old myth of ‘ooh you don’t find homosexuality in the animal kingdom’. Oh yes you do, I spent my teenaged years in Somerset marvelling at gay animals – in particular a lesbian sheepdog who belonged to a neighbouring farmer. That dog, called Lassie no less, was notorious and the teenaged boys in the area constantly obsessed about Lesbian Lassie. All rural kids come across gay animals so where this Top Doctor had been all his life I do not know. The one person who opposed the sea of bigotry was Edwina Currie who was also a guest. I wasn’t a fan of Edwina’s, but she was pretty good on that occasion. So I wrote to her – and I received an immediate reply. Which was a very much better response than whenever I wrote to anyone about the criminal conduct of Dafydd and the paedophiles.

Guess what happened within a couple of weeks of me writing to Edwina and complimenting her on her Kilroy appearance? Dafydd was invited onto Kilroy as a guest! Just as the complaints rained down from livid, damaged patients about Dafydd – complaints which were never investigated – and the demands for a Public Inquiry into the alleged paedophile ring in north Wales grew louder and louder. Then Dafydd turned up repeatedly on the TV – the Vincent Kane Debates, on BBC Wales, on S4C, all providing Dafydd with free publicity (see post ‘Oh, No! It’s The Pathetic Sharks’).

Dafydd was a graduate of Liverpool University Medical School and had an extensive network on Merseyside, which went back years (see post ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’). Kilroy-Silk had previously been a lecturer in Liverpool University and then a Labour MP on Merseyside. When Kilroy-Silk was an MP he was mates with John Golding, the then Labour MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme, a man who knew all about Dafydd and the paedophiles (see post ‘News From Sicily’).

In Jan 1994, in her capacity as a Director of Anglia Television, Mary attended a Directors’ meeting at which an impending takeover of Anglia Television by MAI, which owned Meridian Broadcasting, was discussed. The following day, Tuppence bought 50,000 shares in Anglia Television, acting on behalf of a friend, Broosk Saib. Shortly after this, it was announced publicly that Anglia Television would be taken over by MAI. As a result, the shares jumped in value, whereupon Tuppence sold them on behalf of his friend for a profit of £77,219. The arrangements that he made with the stockbrokers meant he did not have to pay at the time of buying the shares.

An inquiry was launched by the Stock Exchange into possible insider trading. The DTI, headed by Michael Heseltine, announced that Tuppence would not be prosecuted due to insufficient evidence. His solicitors – Tuppence was represented by Lord Mischon – admitted that Tuppence had made a mistake, but Tuppence later said that he had been exonerated.

Victor Mishcon was a member of the Wolfenden Committee on homosexual law reform in the 1950s. He was a Councillor for Lambeth throughout that Council’s various incarnations, 1945-67. Investigations into the organised abusive of children in the care of Lambeth found that there was endemic sexual abuse of children in care stretching back to the late 1940s which was known about by Councillors but ignored. Mishcon was given a peerage in 1978 by Jim Callaghan. Who, along with his Gov’t, had concealed the abuse of children in care in north Wales and elsewhere. Callaghan knew that George Thomas, a south Wales Labour MP who later became the Speaker of the House, was molesting children (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’). Mishcon was the Labour Home Affairs Spokesman in the Lords, 1983-90 and Shadow Lord Chancellor, 1990-92. Obviously a good mate of Kinnock’s then! The Kinnock who, along with his wife, knew all about the abuses in north Wales – the Kinnock who was at university with Tony Francis… (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’).

Lord Mishcon’s company acted for Diana during her divorce from Charles.

Tuppence and Mary were now towering figures in Cambridgeshire society. In 1993, Mary was appointed a non-executive Director of Addenbrookes Hospital NHS Trust, a role in which she remained until 1999, when she became Vice-Chairman. She remained in that role until 2002, when she then became Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (incorporating Addenbrookes and Rosie Hospitals), a role she retained until 2012.

Mary and Tuppence knew the dreadful Baroness Trumpington – Trumpers -and her husband Alan Barker. Trumpers is an aristocrat of no ability who constantly screws up on a major scale but made it into the Lords and then into Ministerial office as a result of her friendships with the rich and powerful, as well as all the shit that she had on them. Trumpers is about the only survivor of the Cliveden Set – she was a regular there along with the Russian spies, the call girls and the Royal Family (see posts ’95 Glorious Years’ and ‘In Memoriam – Bronwen, Lady Astor’).

Trumpers began her political career in the Cambridge Tory Party and was well established there by the time that Tuppence and Mary began their social climb. Trumpers was involved with Addenbrookes alongside Mary. Trumpers’s husband had been Douglas Hurd’s tutor at Eton and Trumpers was given a Gov’t post as a result of this – a post in which Trumpers cocked up and caused offence. Trumpers herself has been honest enough to admit that she owes her whole political career to her friend Thatcher, who elevated her to the peerage although the only real job that Trumpers had previously held was that of a shop assistant in Peter Jones decades previously – from which she was sacked after colluding with someone who regularly relieved the shop of expensive goodies.

Trumpers involved herself with criminal justice and the welfare of vulnerable people including single mothers, children and psychiatric patients. It was Trumpers who as a junior Health Minister gave Jimmy Savile his job on the management Board of Broadmoor. Keith Laverack, a senior manager of Cambridgeshire Social Services, went to prison for child abuse in 1997 (see post ‘The Mentor’). Trumpers sat on Social Services Committees when she was based in Cambridge. For details of Trumpers’s background and the shameless nepotism and concealing of wrongdoing which resulted in her elevation to high office, see post ’95 Glorious Years!’.

In 1999 the affair that Tuppence had with actress Sally Farmiloe became public and in July 2001 the Indie published allegations that Tuppence and his wife had always had an open marriage.

In 1999 – once the Waterhouse Inquiry had finished hearing evidence from the witnesses who, if they were former kids in care in north Wales were aggressively cross-examined by barristers acting for the people who had abused them and the institutions which spent years concealing the abuse, called liars and trashed in every way possible – Tuppence had been selected by the Conservative Party as candidate for the London Mayoral Election of 2000.  Tuppence had the support of Thatcher, Major and Hague. Hague – who when he was Secretary of State for Wales had orchestrated the cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry – described Tuppence as a man of ‘probity and integrity’. Eight Conservative ex-Cabinet Ministers who had been in office during the Thatcher and Major Governments wrote to The Daily Telegraph in support of Tuppence’s candidature.

However, on 21 Nov 1999 the News Of The World published allegations made by Ted Francis, a former friend of Tuppence’s, that Tuppence had committed perjury in his 1987 libel case. Tuppence withdrew his candidature the following day. After the allegations, Tuppence was disowned by his party. Conservative leader Hague explained: ‘This is the end of politics for Jeffrey Archer. I will not tolerate such behaviour in my party.’  On 4 Feb 2000, Tuppence was expelled from the party for five years.

On 9 Feb 2000 the Waterhouse Report was submitted to Paul Murphy, the Secretary of State for Wales, who told everyone that he was ever so grateful that the truth had been revealed and that no cover-up had taken place. Although one hell of a cover-up had taken place and all the witnesses knew this, just to be on the safe side Alun Michael – the First Secretary who had been imposed on Wales by Tony Blair lest anyone chose Rhodri Morgan – resigned immediately that the Report was handed in anyway.

In Sept 2000, Tuppence was charged with perjury and perverting the course of justice during the 1987 libel trial. Ted Francis was charged with perverting the course of justice. Simultaneously, Tuppence starred in a production of his own courtroom play staged at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.

The perjury trial began on 30 May 2001. Monica Coghlan had died on 27 April 2001. On 26 April 2001, drug addict Gary Day crashed a stolen Jaguar S-type into Coghlan’s Ford Fiesta outside Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Day, 32, had robbed a pharmacy for drugs, then hijacked two cars using a fake pistol: first a Peugeot taxi, which he crashed into a parked Land Rover, then the Jaguar from a motorist who had stopped at the first crash scene to help. Coghlan’s car was catapulted over a wall. She lay in the wreck for an hour and had to be cut out of the wreckage through the car roof. She died from her injuries the next day in a hospital in Leeds, aged 50. Day admitted manslaughter and was sentenced to life imprisonment at Bradford Court by Judge Norman Jones on 6 July 2001. Ben Crosland was Counsel for the defence.

There had been previous allegations that Gary Day had been trying to get himself back in prison. He had convictions going back to 1980 and told police that he had never passed a driving test.

The beauty of a fatal accident caused by a ne’er do well with drug problems and a terrible criminal record is that no-one asks too many questions, even when the fatality is a key witness in a forthcoming high profile trial in which Tuppence will be in the dock and who died after the crash in a hospital in a region in which Jimmy Savile and his mates ran the NHS.

Furthermore if the fatality is someone like Monica who has had a hard life, brushes with the law and can be dismissed as ‘that type of person’, the death is just attributed to her ‘lifestyle’. This was the explanation given for every death of a former child in care or psych patient in north Wales – every one of whom had evidence of very serious wrongdoing by the professional middle classes and sometimes politicians and celebs. What people missed was that once someone fell into the hands of Dafydd and the paedophiles, they were fitted up for offences, hounded out of jobs and often made homeless. When I first encountered Dafydd I was a postgraduate student who had never been in trouble with the law in my life. Within three years Alun Davies referred to ‘your type’ when he spoke to me – well yes, I’d been illegally imprisoned in psychiatric hospitals twice, fitted up for crimes that I hadn’t committed, forced out of my job and someone had made a number of attempts to set fire to my house.

As a result of the activities of the paedophile gang of which Peter Morrison was a member, I gained a great deal of knowledge about my type. And I know exactly why so many of them ended up in prison or dead. And Fatty Davies might be interested to know that it was unrelated to their genes, to their intelligence, lack of formal education or indeed long term mental health problems. It was because they were being killed to stop them talking.

You Fatty were a thick as pigshit NHS clerk from George Thomas’s part of the world who ended up landing jobs that you could not do and should never have been given because you were involved in serious organised crime. I am delighted that you do not categorise me as being of your type, I’ll stick with my type thanks and I’ll carry on blogging about what you did to us.

Three people in my circle who were witness to the criminality in north Wales were killed in car crashes. The first one was my house mate at university who was killed in 1985 whilst she was driving along a country lane in Shropshire. A car travelling on Anne’s side of the road went straight into her. Anne was killed and her former boyfriend Geoff who was a passenger was left brain damaged and paralysed. The man who smashed into Anne escaped with a broken arm. He was never prosecuted and there was no investigation. Anne died after Dr DGE Wood yelled at me to leave north Wales and forget about everything that had happened there. Just before that, Wood told me that he always knew Anne’s car when he saw it because it was a white beetle with transfers of black choughs on the doors. We lived near the same village as Wood.

The second person was killed in 1995 when he was hit by a car near Bethesda when he was walking along a road one evening. This young man was witness to Gwynedd Social Services, the North Wales Police, a Gwynedd County Councillor, the mental health services, the North Wales Housing Association and the Bethesda GPs colluding to conceal a number of cases of child sexual abuse being perpetrated by different members of the same family as well as the removal of a baby from the care of his father who was another witness to the abuse – on the basis of false allegations of abuse. The full details of this story can be read in my post ‘It’s All About Protecting Children’.

The third person was the adult son of a former neighbour of mine near Bethesda who knew the details of the same case. He crashed his lorry one evening – no other vehicles were involved, he was known to be a safe and competent driver and the accident was attributed to heavy rain. The dead man also had knowledge of a people trafficking racket which his own brother had been involved with.

Shortly after Brown’s brother accompanied me on a visit to the North Wales Hospital where as ever Dafydd wasn’t available and no-one knew when he would be, Brown’s brother was hitching outside a motorway service station when a car with young men in whom he did not recognise drove straight at him. He literally jumped into a bush next to him which saved his life. He later emigrated after another few attempts were made on his life.

Not that one has to be dispossessed to find oneself in a fatal car accident about which questions are never answered. It can even happen to a Princess who’s been staying at the Paris Ritz and whose chauffeur-driven car meets a white Fiat Uno whilst travelling through a tunnel at a high speed. The coroner who conducted the final inquest on Di and Dodi to stop all the bellyaching once and for all was Lord Thomas Scott Baker. It was the first inquest that Thomas Scott Baker had ever done – there’s nothing like beginning at the top is there. Scott Baker had spent many enjoyable years working as a judge in the family courts and in 1995 imprisoned Susan Brooke, one of Dafydd’s victims, in a case that raised so many questions that only Dafydd could have been at the centre of it (see posts ‘So Whose Path Had Susan Brooke Crossed?’,’More On The Susan Brooke Case’ and ‘Update On The Cases of Susan Brooke And Sara Thornton’).

Sir Peter Morrison’s sister Dame Mary spent a lifetime at Buck House as a Lady-in-Waiting to HM Lilibet.

Ted Francis claimed that Tuppence had asked him to provide a false alibi for the night that Tuppence was alleged to have been with Monica Coghlan. Angela Peppiatt, Tuppence’s former personal assistant, also claimed Tuppence had fabricated an alibi in the 1987 trial. Peppiatt had kept a diary of Tuppence’s movements, which contradicted evidence given during the 1987 trial. Andrina Colquhoun, Tuppence’s former mistress, confirmed that they had been having an affair in the 1980s, thus contradicting the claim that he and Mary Archer had been ‘happily married’ at the time of the trial.

Tuppence never spoke during the trial, though his wife Mary again gave evidence as she had done during the 1987 trial. On 19 July 2001, Tuppence was found guilty of perjury and perverting the course of justice at the 1987 trial. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by Mr Justice Potts. Ted Francis was found not guilty. Prominent journalists admitted to having accepted Tuppence’s hospitality after he was convicted.

Those who were named as having attended Tuppence’s parties included Thatch, Major, Tebs, Ken Clarke, Andrew Rawnsley and Simon Hoggart.  Guests were described as ‘politicians, editors, political editors’ and others including celebs and archbishops even. No-one admitted to remembering seeing Peter Morrison at Tuppence’s knees-ups, but as Morrison dined regularly with Thatch and her family, I can’t imagine that Tuppence would have forgotten to send him an invitation.

Robin Oakley, the BBC’s Political Editor, went on holiday with Tuppence.

Colquhoun’s and Peppiatt’s evidence at Tuppence’s Old Bailey trial made it quite clear that Tuppence and Mary really did not experience the sort of domestic bliss that Justice Cocklecarrot conjured up in 1987 as he spluttered about green leatherette suits.

Andrina Colquhoun was Tuppence’s mistress for eight years. Colquhoun was raised amid the aristocracy, trained as a fashion photographer, appeared in gossip columns and is said to have attended 300 parties in her debutante year. On the night that Lord Lucan disappeared, Colquhoun was waiting for him at the Clermont Club. They had been due to dine together. In police interviews she insisted they were not lovers; she said she did not want to become involved with a married man with children. This was not something with which she concerned herself when she met Tuppence in 1979, while working for Terence Conran as his PA.

According to Angela Peppiatt – who I will come to shortly – she was his ‘live-in London person’, one half of the double life that saw him in London Monday to Friday before returning to Mary at Grantchester at weekends. In 1982 Tuppence appointed Colquhoun as his PA in response to rumblings in the gossip columns.

In 1984, when promotion to Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party beckoned, Tuppence dumped Colquhoun, saying he needed to ‘tidy up his life’. He gave her his BMW and number plate, ANY 1 – and then went back on his word to Mary and Thatch by continuing to see her.

In 1999, when news broke of Ted Francis’ false alibi Colquhoun was ‘horrified’ to find herself at the centre of the storm. She was by then married to Robert Waddington whom she met in 1985 while the affair with Tuppence was in full swing.

Ted Francis said his alibi was intended to conceal a Tuppence dinner with Colquhoun from Mary. In his resignation statement Tuppence said he had been with a female friend, ‘whose identity is known to the News of the World’. Andrina was named in all the papers the next day.

At the Old Bailey Andrina said she had been in Greece with Waddington when Tuppence said he was with her.

Angela Peppiatt was Tuppence’s PA before and during the 1987 libel action against the Star. Peppiatt was deeply entwined in the conspiracy that Tuppence hatched to win the case, but for 14 years she kept silent about the lies and deceptions she had carried out on his behalf. When police investigating Ted Francis’ allegations approached her in Dec 1999 she fessed up. Peppiatt was the key prosecution witness.

Peppiatt was hired by Tuppence in 1985. Tuppence was a busy bee with politics and novels, property and theatrical interests, a wife, a mistress and other girlfriends. Peppiatt ran Tuppence’s diary, organised other staff, paid bills from a ‘picnic basket’ of signed chequebooks, wined and dined political and business contacts, bought presents for his girlfriends and lied on his behalf to his mistress and his wife.

She helped Tuppence manufacture trial statements by researching TV schedules so he could pretend he was at home watching TV when he wasn’t, and organised payments to Stacpoole, who was banished to Paris during the 1987 libel action. Peppiatt maintained that: ‘You don’t say no to Jeffrey. You’re either part of his team, or you’re out.’ Tuppence turned to Peppiatt when he decided to forge a diary when he was under pressure to produce one. However, Tuppence was unaware that Peppiatt took copies of the forged documents and wrote a statement detailing her actions. She also kept other documents.

Peppiatt enjoyed a generous salary and expenses and wrote out a £10,000 bonus for herself six months after she forged the diary. She claimed to be ‘deeply ashamed’ in court. Tuppence and his accountants knew what she was doing and tolerated it. But in the winter of 1987 Tuppence stopped her bonus, salary and expenses cheques and accused her of spending money on gifts for herself. Peppiatt quit the job.

Following Tuppence’s conviction, a number of people asked why Mary wasn’t facing perjury charges as well. It can only have been because Justice Cocklecarrot fancied a bit of that and anyway folk like Mary don’t go to prison even if once in a blue moon their husbands do. If Mary had have gone to prison, she would have been in danger of being visited by her mate Trumpers, who was a prison visitor.

Tuppence was initially sent to Belmarsh, a Category A prison, but was moved to Wayland, a Category C prison in Norfolk on 9 Aug 2001. Despite automatically qualifying as a category  D prisoner given it was a first conviction and he did not pose serious risk of harm to the public, his status as a category D prisoner was suspended pending a police investigation into his Kurdish charity. Tuppence was transferred to  the open prison North Sea Camp in Oct 2001. From there he was let out to work at the Theatre Royal in Lincoln and allowed occasional home visits.

Media reports claimed he had been abusing this privilege by attending lunches with friends, including former Education Secretary Gillian Shephard. In September 2002 Tuppence was transferred to a Category B prison, Lincoln. After three weeks, he was moved to the Category D Hollesley Bay in Suffolk.

During his imprisonment, Tuppence was visited by a number of high-profile friends, including actor Donald Sinden and Barry Humphries aka Dame Edna. On 9 Oct 2012, Donald Sinden celebrated his 89th birthday and his retirement after 30 years as President of the Royal Theatrical Fund with a celebration lunch for 350 guests at the Park Lane Hotel, London. Tuppence conducted the charity auction and a tribute letter from HM Queen Lilibet was read out. Julian Fellowes delivered a speech. Sinden’s funeral in 2014 was attended by Judi Dench, who is Patron of the St James’s Singers, the choir of which Robert Bluglass and his wife are members. Tuppence read the eulogy. Sinden had been a member of the Garrick since 1960.

In Oct 2002, Tuppence repaid the Daily Star the £500,000 damages he had received in 1987, as well as legal costs and interest of £1.3 million.

On 21 July 2003, Tuppence was released on licence from Hollesley Bay after serving half of his sentence. He remained a peer, there being no legal provision through which his title or indeed he could be removed. Tuppence also retained membership of the Lords, which did not then have the power to expel members.

When Tuppence was released on licence, I was on bail for ‘threatening to kill Alun Davies’ after I’d told his secretary that he was a fat idiot. Davies told anyone who would listen that I would be receiving a 7 year prison sentence. It all kicked off in 2002 and the case circulated around the north Wales courts for nearly two years and resulted from numerous mental health staff in north Wales lying in police statements. The case collapsed on the first day of the trial when the prosecution withdrew the allegations and accepted that I had indeed simply told Davies’s secretary that he was a fat idiot. There was no investigation into anyone for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. I was told later that the prosecution changed their mind about putting me on trial after a member of staff at the Hergest Unit came forward with evidence that they had witnessed the plan to frame me and stated that if the trial went ahead they would go public on the abuse of patients at the Hergest Unit.

Huw Daniel, the Presiding judge, was clearly livid when the threats to kill charge was dropped and roared and bellowed his way through the rest of the hearing. Daniel sentenced me to more than 100 hours of community service and issued a legally invalid court order banning me from NHS premises in Gwynedd. He also claimed that Alun Davies and his family were ‘victims’ of mine. I only even knew that Davies had a family because of allegations circulating around north Wales that Davies was securing his relatives positions in the regional NHS through nepotism. For details see posts ‘Interesting Happenings In The Legal System’ and ‘Behind The Scenes Regarding Those Legal Happenings’.

Whilst on community service I met a few more people who had been fitted up and heard much about the wrongdoing of Huw Daniel, as well as about a solicitor in Caernarfon whom it was alleged was abusing children with the full knowledge of the police and the rest of the legal profession (see post ‘Discussions On The Minibus – And A Revealing Letter’).

Years later, I discovered that after the court case, someone had unlawfully amended the PNC and recorded a conviction of ‘violent disorder’ against me. A certificate of indictment had also been forged by someone in Chester Court stating that I had pleaded guilty to this offence. I wrote to the North Wales Police legal services division more than a year ago about this but nothing has been resolved. Although I had no idea that my criminal record had been forged, Martin Jones, the former CEO of the NW Wales NHS Trust knew all about it years ago, but Martin hasn’t told me HOW he knew about it.

In March 1997 there was a trial of a paedophile ring underway at Chester Crown Court. One of those later imprisoned was Keith Laverack, a senior manager for Cambridgeshire Social Services. The Presiding Judge lifted reporting restrictions despite police concerns that this would threaten the rest of the investigation (see post ‘The Mentor’). That judge was Huw Daniel.

As Samantha Fox might have said in 1984, ‘ere what is it with Huw Daniel ‘elping paedophiles?’

Would you like to tell us Huw?

Huw Daniel was the prosecuting Counsel in the 1985 case of the Rev Emyr Owen – a Minister from Tywyn, who was both gay and a bit more honest than this bunch of shites – when Emyr was framed and imprisoned for a series of offences involving the penises of corpses for which there was absolutely no evidence and which would have been a physiological impossibility anyway (see posts ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’ and ‘Updates, Common Themes And News, May 5 2017′).

After a lifetime of service on the endemically corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit, Huw Daniel was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Gwynedd! In this capacity, Huw Daniel organised a lunch for HM Lilibet when she visited Gwynedd a few years ago. Daniel booked the Management Centre at Bangor University for the occasion and one of my friends was working there at the time. He told me that Daniel was the most ridiculous bully and boar and that he was constantly on the phone blustering at them all. Huw – not only did I hear all about it, but you were a source of entertainment because whilst you were organising HM Lilibet’s lunch, my office in a neighbouring building was decorated with newspaper headlines, satirical photos etc of YOU!!!

After Lilibet’s visit, a number of ignoramuses of that parish complained bitterly that the University authorities had not made more of Lilibet parking her bum in the Management Centre for 60 mins whilst she was on her way  to the main event in Llandudno and how disgusting it was that the VC had not participated in the ritual photocall. I wondered if it was at all related to the fact that Gwynedd’s biggest paedophiles’ friend was accompanying her whilst dressed up like General Pinochet. You fucking fool Daniel, half of Bangor University knew about you trying to fit me up on behalf of a paedophile gang.

Let’s hear it for the British judiciary!

Huw Daniel’s father was J.E. Daniel, theologian and preacher, a legend in his own lunchtime, or at least that lunchtime which his son shared with Lilibet. J.E. Daniel became Chairman of Plaid Cymru 1939, holding the position until 1943. In 1946, Daniel was appointed as an inspector of schools, with special responsibility for classics and religious education. Now that would have been an interesting job at a time when a whole host of religious leaders were concealing child abuse in a region with one hell of a problem in that sphere. J.E. Daniel died as the result of a road accident in Flintshire in Feb 1962.

CRASH! Although how that was managed I don’t know, J. E. Daniel would have been about the only man with a car on the road at that time…

J. E. Daniel was an academic at the Bala Theological College. The father of Alun Ffred – former AM for Caernarfon (later renamed Arfon) and at present Chairman of Plaid – and Dafydd Iwan was associated with Bala Theological College. Dafydd Iwan is the former leader of Gwynedd County Council and was President of Plaid, 2003-08. Dafydd Iwan is famed for his folk songs. Offerings include ‘Carlo’, a derogatory ditty about Prince Charles written to celebrate the Investiture in 1969, ‘Saesneg yn Esensial’, a satire on the English language being prioritised above Welsh and ‘Ciosg Talysarn’, a number about the phone box in Talysarn which was reputed to be bugged by MI5. Ever the freedom fighter, Dafydd Iwan also wrote a tribute song to Dr Dafydd Alun Jones!

I have explained in previous posts how it has now been admitted that the security services were concealing the Westminster Paedophile Ring as well as Dr Dafydd Alun Jones’s part in it. All phone boxes were being bugged in north Wales – including the one at Rachub, which was used by me to keep Brown etc updated on what was happening to me and by another resident of that village to repeatedly make representation to Gwynedd Health Authority, to the North Wales Police and to Crimestoppers, about the criminal activities of Dafydd Alun Jones but whose pleas for help were ignored.

On one of the many occasions that I found myself in the cells at Bangor Police Station after having been arrested upon the demands of the paedophile gang, the cells were packed after a near riot had occurred in Bangor. The aggro was because a folk singer had been arrested after the police planted an incendiary device on his property. Initial rumours named Dafydd Iwan as being the man who was fitted up by the British state. It was actually Bryn Fon.

Why would the British state have ever wanted Dafydd Iwan taken out of action?

While in prison, Tuppence wrote a three volume memoir. His prison term also served as inspiration for nine short stories.

In July 2001, shortly after Tuppence was jailed for perjury, Scotland Yard began investigating allegations that millions of pounds had disappeared from his Kurdish charity. In 1991, Tuppence had claimed to have raised £57,042,000. In 1992, the Kurdish Disaster Fund had written to Tuppence complaining: ‘You must be concerned that the Kurdish refugees have seen hardly any of the huge sums raised in the west in their name’. Kurdish groups claimed little more than £250,000 had been received by groups in Iraq.

The British Red Cross commissioned  a KPMG audit which showed that no donations were handled by Tuppence and any misappropriation was ‘unlikely’. Thank God for that, or Tuppence and the Red Cross could have been in trouble there. Nonetheless KPMG could find no evidence to support Tuppence’s claims to have raised £31.5 million from overseas governments. The police said that they would launch a ‘preliminary assessment of the facts’ from the audit but were not investigating the Simple Truth fund.

In 2004, the Gov’t of Equatorial Guinea alleged that Tuppence was one of the financiers of the failed 2004 coup against it, citing bank details and telephone records as evidence. In 2009, Tuppence said: ‘I am completely relaxed about it. Mr Mann [Simon Mann, the English mercenary leader of the coup] has made clear that it’s nothing to do with me.’ In 2011, Mann, who was jailed in Equatorial Guinea for his role in leading the failed 2004 coup but was released on humanitarian grounds in 2009, told The Daily Telegraph that his forthcoming book, ‘Cry Havoc’, would reveal ‘the financial involvement of a controversial and internationally famous member of the British House of Lords in the plot, backed up by banking records.’ Mann claimed that documents from the bank accounts in Guernsey of two companies Mann used as vehicles for organising the coup, showed a ‘J H Archer’ paying $135,000 into one of the firms.

Mann was forced to remove some of the text from his book by his publisher, but he did speak to the Guardian about the coup attempt in 2013. Another person involved with that attempted coup was a man known to his friends as Stinker – Sir Mark Thatcher. Stinker had financed the helicopters that were to be used in the overthrow attempt – he was convicted in a South African court, fined $500,000 and given a 4 year suspended prison sentence. Simon Mann maintained that not only did Stinker play a much bigger part in the attempted coup than Stinker ever admitted but Stinker’s mother was right behind the plan. Mann maintains that he went to visit Thatch at her house in Belgravia and she likened the planned coup to the development of the Docklands in the 1980s – everything and everyone had to go. Mann also claimed that Thatch was trying to persuade he and Stinker to support a plan to overthrow Hugo Chavez.

In Feb 2006, on Andrew Marr’s Sunday AM TV programme, Tuppence said that he had no interest in returning to front-line politics and would pursue his writing instead.

Since 2010 Tuppence has written the first draft of each new book at his villa in Majorca.

Between 2005 and 2008, Mary led a pioneering NHS-funded initiative to create patient decision aids for patients with localised prostate cancer (or BPH). She was founder director of Cambridge University Health Partners, 2009–2012 and was Deputy Chairman of ACT (Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust) from 1997-2015. She is currently leading a group to create an online PDA and information/advice for bladder cancer patients in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and across the Anglia Cancer Network.

Mary became Dame Mary in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to the NHS.

In late 2013, Tuppence was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He underwent a successful operation to remove his prostate in Dec 2013 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and subsequently made a full recovery. In 2010, his wife, Mary, had been diagnosed with bladder cancer and in 2011 Mary had her bladder removed. She appears to have made a full recovery.

Mary is Chair of Imperial College Health Partners’ Expert Advisory Board, and a Trustee of the UK Stem Cell Foundation. In 2014 she joined Hydrodec Group plc as a non-executive Director. She remains a fellow of Newnham College, Cambridge and is a visiting Professor at Imperial College, London. She has been an honorary fellow at St Anne’s College, Oxford since 2013. She serves on the DTI’s energy advisory group and a Committee to ‘promote science’.

Shortly after I wrote my recent blog post about the fraud that I witnessed whilst I was working for the Cancer Research Campaign and how I recently discovered that my work has appeared with Professor Nicola Curtin’s name on it, a lady at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Medical School of whom I had never heard until a few days ago and who most definitely was not part of the project that it is claimed that she worked with me on (see post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK), Tuppence and Mary appeared in the Mail Online. Tuppence explained how important it is for men to Get Tested and that he had no symptoms of prostate cancer at all but he Got Tested and bugger me, he found that his PSA levels were through the roof, so he’s had his prostate removed and he’s thankful for that.

When I read this my first thought was that Mary had wreaked a Terrible Revenge upon Tuppence – it was Mary who ordered Tuppence to Get Tested and if Tuppence has had his prostate removed he’ll be impotent and doubly incontinent. That’s worth putting up with if you really do have cancer, but Mary Archer will know that there is great concern over the PSA test, because it is throwing up a lot of false positives. It has been admitted that men with benign prostatic hypertrophy – which affects nearly all men as they get older – have been told that they had cancer when they didn’t and have been given needless surgery which has done damage.

But another thought has occurred to me.

Mary is involved with Imperial College. Those people whom I witnessed participating in research fraud and misconduct at Hammersmith Hospital/Royal Postgraduate Medical School/CRC are now leading lights at Imperial College and in cancer research (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’). My post ‘I Don’t Believe It!’ described what I believe was a major research fraud committed by the late Dame Julia Polak – who worked at Hammersmith and then at Imperial. Polak was the person with the worst reputation at Hammersmith in terms of dishonesty, ruthlessness and plagiarism. Polak subsequently became famous as a result of what I believe was a massive fraud and established a huge charity on the basis of it all.

Mary is leading prostate cancer initiatives.

Tuppence has lied and lied throughout his career – he went to prison because he lied in court. It was later demonstrated that Mary knew that Tuppence was lying when she backed him up and people were curious as to how Mary had avoided a charge of perjury herself. Tuppence and Mary will say pretty much anything if they will benefit from it.

Has Tuppence REALLY had his prostate removed? Has Mary even had her bladder removed as claimed? They both seem to have made miraculous recoveries, as did dear old Dame Julia. I think more questions should be asked about Tuppence and Mary’s miracle cures and their outstanding NHS treatment at a time when the NHS was demonstrated to be a very flawed beast – particularly as the medical miracles were such good adverts for Mary’s career.

Has she elegance? Has she fragrance? Mary might not be clad in a green leatherette suit, but it was the lady in green leatherette who was telling the truth in 1987.

CRASH! There’s one problem solved.

BBC News Online has recently reported on the Australian migrant children and how there ‘demands for justice’ for them and requests that they be paid compensation. Last century large numbers of disadvantaged kids from the UK – frequently from inner London, but from other places as well – were removed from their families and sent to Australia, often simply because they were in serious poverty. Their parents were told of the wonderful new life that their children would have in Australia – this was still happening in the 1970s, but people stress that it happened ‘in the 1950s’. Numerous kids were abused sexually and physically in their new ‘homes’ in Australia. The authorities in the UK knew that this was happening but kept a firm lid on it until very recently. Once the abusers had all died. Now what does that remind me of?

‘Justice and compensation for the victims.’ How can there be justice when the crimes have been committed and were committed with the knowledge of the British state? Compensation? Most of the folk involved are now elderly. What are they supposed to spend the compensation on – a good funeral, Kray-like with posh horses whose manes have been plaited pulling a grand coach containing the coffin?

Professor Alex Jay is determined to get to the truth. So that’s why Dame Mary is sitting on a Gov’t Committee ‘promoting science’, why my friends are dead and why I have a forged criminal record which no-one will investigate.

Now that I have blogged even more about the way in which people in Westminster destroyed Wales, I’ll just repeat something that Johnny Rotten said as he appeared on stage at the Brixton Academy back in the 1970s:

‘Hello London – how the fuck are you?’

Don’t even tempt me to take a leaf out of the book of Sid Vicious a la that film clip of him gunning down the crowd and leaving behind screaming chaos as he departed…

Disgusting of Tunbridge Wells And A Few Equally Disgusting Others

I picked up the latest edition of ‘Private Eye’ earlier today and read a few nuggets of information about some of those who have starred on this blog, which led me to identify yet more accessories.

The ‘Eye’ tells us that Nick Brown, Labour Chief Whip and MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne East, is suing Tom Bower over one sentence that Bower wrote in his book about Blair, ‘Broken Vows’. Nick Brown featured in my post ‘News From Sicily’. Shortly after Ron Davies had his moment of madness on Clapham Common which resulted in him being relieved of his wallet, car and House of Commons pass by a black male prostitute known as Boogie – although the police traced and interviewed Boogie, interestingly Boogie was never charged – Nick Brown, the Minister of Agriculture in Blair’s Gov’t, became embroiled in some sort of scandal involving a rent boy. Blair’s autobiography ‘A Journey’ admits that Alastair Campbell successfully re-packaged the incident as a good-news story about Brown coming out as gay. According to Bower, Nick Brown ‘was accused of paying £100 to rent boys to be kicked around a room, and admitted his sexuality’. Brown is suing Bower over another sentence in the book -not even one that I would have thought was particularly incriminating. Brown hired lawyers Carter-Ruck nonetheless – they lost the preliminary trial and are now in the process of amending their claim. Not only was I alerted by the name of Nick Brown – having recently named him as a member of Blair’s network in the north east of England who may have been involved in silencing matters relating to organised child abuse – but I recognised the name of Brown’s barrister as well, Adrienne Page QC. I mentioned Page in my post about the crooked barrister George Carman QC, ‘No Ordinary Methods’. Page was one of the junior barristers who worked with Carman on libel cases.

Carman was a violent alcoholic with a gambling addiction who was friends with a number of gangsters and bent coppers – he knew about the paedophile ring which operated in north Wales/Cheshire in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. He defended at least one paedophile whom he knew was guilty and was retained by Lord Greville Janner when Janner was investigated for child abuse in Leicestershire. Jimmy Savile was one of Carman’s clients. One of Carman’s junior barristers was a man called Tony Blair. A barrister called Cherie Booth worked in the same chambers – New Court Chambers – as Carman. In 1998 Tony and Cherie – by which time Tony was PM rather than a junior barrister – dropped in on a party held by Carman at the Ritz. Cherie attended Carman’s memorial service after he died in 2001.

The ‘Eye’ mentioned something else of which I was blissfully unaware – that Daniel Finkelstein, whom I just thought of as being someone who writes not very well-argued articles against ‘socialism’ in ‘The Times’, was an advisor to Dr David Owen, John Major and William Hague. Regular readers will know that I have identified all three of these giants of British politics as being involved in concealing the extent of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. I was told that David Owen personally knew at least one of the Top Doctors who was involved with criminal activities in north Wales whilst Top Doctors in the region were facilitating the paedophile ring (see post ‘Dr Death’) and John Major appointed William Hague to orchestrate the massive cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry (see the many posts about Waterhouse).

Danny Finkelstein went to University College School in Hampstead – which was where Trumpers’s husband Alan Barker was headmaster. Jean Trumpington was the Health Minister who appointed Jimmy Savile as manager of Broadmoor (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’). Finkelstein may actually have been a pupil there whilst Barker was head – even if Finkelstein had left by then, it is very likely that he would have known Trumpers and Barker anyway because University College School takes its alumni network seriously. Finkelstein will definitely know Trumpers by now because they sat in the Lords together until Trumpers retired a few weeks ago.

Finkelstein was involved with the SDP during 1981-90. He was Chair of the Young Social Democrats and a close ally of and advisor to Dr Death during that time. Finkelstein was one of the members of the SDP who refused to merge with the Liberal Party to form the Liberal Democrats in 1988 and instead hitched his fortunes up to Dr Death and the continuing-SDP. Dr Death and the continuing-SDP finally died a death at the 1990 Bottle by-election when they famously polled fewer votes that the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. I thought that it was this which prompted my favourite ‘Private Eye’ cover of all time, a photo of Dr Death with the heading ‘Ta Ra Luv’ above it, a reference to the recent death of a Coronation Street star and the Sun’s fairly tasteless coverage of the funeral, but I note that Elsie Tanner – for it was she – died sometime before 1990 so my media-memory is obviously malfunctioning. My second favourite ‘Private Eye’ cover is of course the one which followed the appointment of Labour’s ‘dream ticket’ ie. Kinnock as leader and Fattersley as deputy, featuring a photo of them both with a speech bubble coming out of Fattersley saying ‘Welsh windbag’ and a speech bubble coming out of Kinnock saying ‘slimy fat toad’. However, no matter how bad my memory is, it was a case of Ta Ra Luv for Dr Death in 1990 – it dawned on even him that he wasn’t going to be PM so he stood down from politics and Finkelstein later went to work for the Tories.

One would have thought that what with Finkelstein being a politician and a journo he might have remembered much about the Bootle by-election which finished off the political career of his mate Dr Death. It was the election in which Michael Carr was elected, the Labour MP for Bootle who had tangled with Militant and only survived 57 days as an MP. Michael Carr died after Walton Hospital failed to diagnose a heart attack and sent him home after the briefest of consultations and then failed to revive him when he was readmitted hours later in a coma (see post ‘News From Sicily’). Michael Carr is not the only person who has died after being on the receiving end of the care from Walton NHS, they polished off someone a few years ago who was married to someone who, along with his friend, had dared challenge the paedophiles of north Wales (see post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University!’). Surely the way in which Michael Carr died was worth mentioning when you campaigned for the Tories Danny – and it would have made a good article when you went to work for Murdoch years later…

Before working for the Tories Danny was Director of the think tank the Social Market Foundation for three years.

Danny was head of the Conservative Research Department, 1995-97. In this capacity he advised John Major and attended Cabinet meetings. Between 1997-01 Danny was political advisor to William Hague – during the time that the Waterhouse Inquiry heard evidence from former children in care who had experienced the most terrible abuse, then published the Waterhouse Report which trashed those witnesses in every way possible and downplayed the rock solid evidence suggesting that what had gone on in north Wales had involved a lot more people than a few degenerate old sheep shaggers employed as social workers. During this time, Danny was also Secretary to the Shadow Cabinet, along with George Osborne. Danny and George are mates.

Between 2014-16 CAIS – the drugs charity Chaired by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones who facilitated the paedophile ring in north Wales and has as one of its Trustees Lucille Hughes, Dafydd’s former mistress whom even Waterhouse named as knowing that a paedophile ring was operating in the children’s homes when she was Director of Gwynedd Social Services – was given nearly £1.5 million from George Osborne’s LIBOR fund on the basis of misrepresenting the ‘services’ that CAIS were providing (see post ‘George Osborne Enters The Picture’ for details of the scam).

Whilst Danny was Hague’s political advisor, Amanda Platell was Hague’s Press Officer (see post ‘Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Out Of The Media?’).

Danny joined ‘The Times’ in 2001 as part of the leader writing team. He was Comment Editor, March 2004-June 2008 and was then appointed Chief leader writer. He began ‘The Times’ blog ‘Comment Central’ in Sept 2006. Danny is also a regular columnist for the ‘Jewish Chronicle’ and between 2011-17 was Chairman of the think tank Policy Exchange, a right wing think tank established in 2001.

In Aug 2013 Danny was given a peerage.

Danny’s brother is Professor Anthony Finkelstein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at UCL.

David Frum took over as Chairman of Policy Exchange when Danny stood down. Frum is based in Washington DC and Montreal and is a previous Presidential speechwriter. Policy Exchange has become very influential on the right and was responsible for the proposing the notion of Police and Crime Commissioners, a policy which has resulted in a number of paedophiles’ friends being responsible for policing.

Policy Exchange was founded by Nicholas Boles, Michael Gove, Archie Norman and Francis Maude.

Archie Norman was appointed as Chair of M&S two months ago and prior to that – 2010-16 – he was Chair of ITV plc.

Norman’s parents were both Top Doctors and he went to Cambridge University and then Harvard Business School. After he graduated he worked for McKinsey and Co, where William Hague was one of his proteges. He was a Director of Geest and Railtrack and in 1986 became Group Finance Director at Kingfisher plc (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’ for details of Lord Tim Clement-Jones the Group Co-Secretary of Kingfisher plc and Cancer BACUP,  the questionable charity that he established). Norman was Group Chief Exec of ASDA and then Chair, 1991-99. From the early 1990s until 1998 Norman was Chair of The Children’s Trust, a charity for brain injured children.

Archie Norman was elected as Tory MP for the safe seat of Tunbridge Wells at the 1997 General Election. He was selected for the seat as a result of Sir Patrick Mayhew being elevated to the Lords. Mayhew was yet another paedophiles’ friend who made it into the Lords as soon as William Hague had organised the cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry. Mayhew had been the legal assessor for the GMC when Dr Morris Fraser had been allowed to continue practising as a psychiatrist after he had committed sexual offences against children. Mayhew was Attorney General when he authorised legal action against me for contempt of Court at the behest of the Top Doctors and social workers in north Wales. They requested my imprisonment after I had repeatedly written letters of complaint about their criminal activities. The cases fell apart when it became clear that they had perjured themselves, but there was no investigation into their activities or action taken against them. Please see posts ‘The Sordid Role Of Sir Robert Francis QC’ and ‘Some Big Legal Names Enter The Arena’ for details.

Archie Norman supported William Hague’s leadership bid and became Chief Exec of the Conservative Party.

In 2002 Norman was appointed  Chair of Energis. Upon leaving Parliament in 2005 he set up a private equity firm, Aurigo Management. In July 2013 Archie Norman became the Chair of Lazard – he was Chair whilst the firm worked on the privatisation of Royal Mail. In Dec 2013 he was appointed Chair of Hobbycraft. The Dept for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy appointed Norman as lead non-executive Board member in Oct 2016.

Norman was a Director of the Judge Institute of Management Studies (now known as the Cambridge Judge Business School). He was also on the Board of NIESR (National Institute of Economic and Social Research).

Francis Maude was a criminal barrister who was a Tory Councillor for the City of Westminster, 1978-84. So Maude’s time there overlapped with that of Tory Dame Shirley Porter, who became leader of the Council in 1986 and subsequently organised the ‘homes for votes’ scam, was fined millions and left the UK to lie low in Israel for a few years until she was reassured that she would not be arrested when she set foot on British soil again. Dame Shirl was also involved in selling land belonging to Westminster Council in the form of three cemeteries for literally pennies in a dodgy business deal.

Maude was Tory MP for North Warwickshire, 1983-92 and then for Horsham, 1997-2015.

In 1984 Maude was appointed PPS to none other than Sir Peter Morrison at the Dept of Employment – the Peter Morrison who was widely known to be sexually abusing children, including kids in care in north Wales. So Maude was off to a flying start in terms of info that he could use against people to advance himself. Which was probably why he was appointed Assistant Gov’t Whip in 1985, a post he retained until 1987. Maude was a Minister in the DTI, 1987-89; Minister of State for Europe, 1989-90; Financial Secretary to the Treasury, 1990-92. In 1992 he lost his seat to Labour – he didn’t expect this, he thought that he would be in Gov’t along with everyone else who had concealed Morrison’s molesting habits. Maud was made a Privy Councillor in the 1992 dissolution honours to compensate.

Whilst he was out of Gov’t between 1992 and 1997, Maude was appointed a non-executive director of ASDA in 1992; a Director of Salomon Brothers, 1992-93; MD of Morgan Stanley, 1993-97. Between 1994-97 he Chaired the Gov’ts Deregulation Task Force.

When he returned to Parliament in 1997 Maude was appointed Shadow Cabinet Office Minister and Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, with responsibility for preparing the Tories for Gov’t. Some Tories referred to him as ‘the enforcer’. In 2001 he managed Michael Portillo’s unsuccessful leadership bid. Between 2005-07 Maude was Chair of the Conservative Party. As Chairman of the Party he maintained that it wasn’t conservative ideas that had damaged the party, but ‘the Conservative Party, as it was then seen, was damaging good Conservative policies’. It was during Maude’s tenure that the ‘A list’ for Conservative candidates was adopted, prioritising women and ethnic minorities. Maude also founded Conservatives for Change.

Whilst he was in the Shadow Cabinet Maude was a non-executive Director of Jubilee Investment Trust plc, which held 21% of US porn star Jill Kelly’s DVD business. He was also Chair of Mission Marketing Group which advertised for Playboy and was Director of a company which profited from sub-prime mortgages.

Francis Maude extolled the virtues of family values.

When asked what his contribution to the Big Society was, Maude stated that his work as an MP was contribution enough.

Maude was Paymaster General, 2010-15. In this role he was responsible for public service efficiency and reform, reform of the Civil Service, industrial relations in the public sector, the transparency policy and the Gov’t Digital Service. Whilst Maude was responsible for the Gov’t Digital Service, elderly people were forced to apply for key benefits online, although the proportions of elderly people who did not own a computer and who were not computer literate was made clear to Maude. He responded by suggesting that ‘refuseniks’ could be given a one off lesson.

After insulting and impoverishing the elderly, Maude resigned from Parliament in Feb 2016, presumably to fill his boots. In May 2016 he became an advisory Board member at Anvest Partners; in Sept 2016 he became an advisory Board member at OakNorth Bank; in Nov 2016 he was appointed a senior advisor for Covington and Burling LLP; in Nov 2016 he became non-executive Chairman at Cogent Elliott Group Ltd.

Whilst Maude had his big change of heart when he was Party Chairman and decided to tell the world that the Tories weren’t vindictive bastards after all and actually what they really liked was women and ethnic minorities and raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, he said in an interview that Section 28 was ‘a mistake’ and ‘very wrong – very wrong’ (so was molesting kids and killing the witnesses Francis). During this 2006 interview, Maude referred to the death of his gay brother Charles from AIDS in 1993.

Charles Maude was rather different to Francis. Charles was quite flamboyant, bombed around Hampstead on his motorbike and looked like a gay icon. He designed sets for –  among others – the English National Opera and Sadlers’ Wells. Charles Maude became infected with HIV quite early on in the epidemic among gay man of the 80s. He was involved with London Lighthouse, the care facility for people with HIV/AIDS from its beginnings in the mid-1980s. Charles worked as a London Lighthouse counsellor and he ran AIDS awareness workshops for the police and health care workers. At one point he arranged an art auction to raise money for London Lighthouse and recruited the Princess of Wales. Donations were received from David Hockney, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon.

London Lighthouse was founded by John Shine, Christopher Spence and the Rev Andrew Henderson in response to the wholly inadequate facilities that the NHS was providing for AIDS patients. Shine was a nurse at St Stephen’s Hospital (now the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital) and campaigned for the first AIDS clinic to be established at St Stephen’s. Christopher Spence was a bereavement counsellor and Andrew Henderson was the Director of Social Services for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Many of the people who established the early provision for AIDS patients undoubtedly did do a worthwhile job. There was huge paranoia around AIDS patients in NHS hospitals and some of them died grim and lonely deaths with NHS staff refusing to touch them and leaving their meals at the door and that sort of thing. However in the massive effort to dispel bigotry and fear – which was absolutely necessary – no-one mentioned something that all those people working with AIDS patients will have known. That some – absolutely not all, but some – of those patients had led very promiscuous lives and were using rent boys who were kids in care being prostituted out by the paedophile gangs that had infiltrated the social service depts. I personally knew one man from north Wales who died of AIDS who used gay prostitutes in Chester – I didn’t realise at the time but I bet that some of the people whom he was having sex with were those boys in care who Peter Morrison was also abusing. In 1993 Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon, son of Lord Tyrell-Kenyon from Flintshire, died of AIDS – he was known to be using boys in care in north Wales for sex (see post ‘Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Byd’). Lord Bristol, John Jermyn Hervey, died from AIDS in 1999 – he boasted of having had sex with literally thousands of rent boys (see post ‘No Ordinary Methods’). For many years I was friendly with an artist in north Wales who absolutely assured me that David Hockney and Francis Bacon – two of the donors to Charles’ Maude’s fund raising activities – were using boys for sex.

So somewhere between the Tories hypocritical open homophobia whilst they concealed the fact that Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s aide – as well as others – were sexually abusing children in care and the desperation of liberal people to demonstrate how enlightened and caring they were in the face of a terminal illness that affected large numbers of gay men, the plight of kids in care being abused and forced into sex work was ignored – as were numerous deaths under suspicious circumstances and the framing of witnesses in order to discredit them.

Wheels Within Wheels Or Flies Drawn To The Same Incestuously Corrupt Shithouse?

I have taken the title of today’s post from a comment left by Mike Claybrook in response to a previous post. Mike offered it as a reflection on the cronyism and corruption evident in north east Wales, but it’s a remarkably succinct summary of the prevailing situation in the many institutions, political parties and regions of the UK that have been discussed on this blog.

Readers will be aware that I spent my youth living under the long dark days of Thatcherism and I don’t think that I’ve yet recovered – when I was in north Wales it was a case of poverty and being the victim of the paedophiles’ friends and when I was in London it was a case of witnessing the extreme fuckwittery and greed of the highest echelons of the medical profession whilst they told me that I was a naïve sheepshagger because I wasn’t interested in joining in with their idiocy. I didn’t know at the time, but they too were the paedophiles’ friends, but just rather richer, grander and rather better connected friends than those in north Wales. The paedophiles’ friends in north Wales ended up with OBEs, the ones in London bagged knighthoods and peerages. Despite the joy that erupted throughout the UK at the news of Thatcher’s resignation however, the nightmare of course continued – because John Major took over with pretty much the same bunch of goons in senior positions.

One of the more unpleasant spectacles in the early days of Major’s Gov’t occurred at the Conservative Party Conference in Brighton in October 1992, when Peter Lilley decided that the way to endear himself to the Party was to launch into a vindictive poisonous attack on some of the most vulnerable in society. There had been much gnashing of teeth about the ballooning numbers of people claiming sickness benefits – which was of course happening because Tebbit et al had spent years making alterations to the way in which the unemployment figures were calculated in order to hide the ghastly truth and GPs had been quietly encouraged to shift claimants over onto sickness benefits where possible. Lilley achieved notoriety by singing a pastiche of the Lord High Executioner’s ‘little list’ song from The Mikado. He entertained the conference with a ditty about having a ‘little list’ of people who ‘won’t be missed’ – they included people claiming social security benefits, unmarried pregnant women and socialists no less. Liiley’s performance was truly unedifying.

Readers might have noted the date of the Party Conference concerned – October 1992. Six months after the arson attack on a building in Brighton which killed five people with connections to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Two more deaths resulted from this event as well – the man who was alleged to have confessed to starting the fire was found dead himself days later and another young man who survived the arson attack alleged that the former residents of the children’s homes in north Wales were being murdered because they had knowledge of liaisons between child prostitutes and politicians but he was subsequently found dead himself after giving evidence. For full details of the fire and it’s aftermath, see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’. Presumably it was felt that after this fire, a few more people who wouldn’t be missed were out of the way.

Well Peter, I’ve got a list as well – a list of all those people whom I know colluded with the activities of a vicious paedophile ring in north Wales. Admittedly it’s not a little list – because of the degree of corruption that was involved it’s a very long list and many have already been named on this blog, but there are still a few obvious loose ends to tie up. So here is my own additional little list, to be read with reference to – and correlated with – previous posts.

My little list begins with three odious people who were friends and contemporaries at York University – Harvey Proctor, Michael Brown and Christine Holman, now Christine Hamilton. I don’t know what was going on at York at the time, but the York University Conservative Association spawned some deeply unpleasant people.

Harvey Proctor is legendary. He was Chair of the York University Conservative Association between 1967-69, then the Assistant Director (1969-71) and a member of the executive council (1983-87) of the hard right Monday Club. He was the Tory MP for Basildon (1979-83) and then for Billericay (1983-87). In the early 80s some mind-boggling rumours circulated about Harvey Proctor, rumours so florid that I didn’t believe them. He was alleged to be taking part in extreme S&M activities with under-aged boys. ‘Private Eye’ ran a few articles about him – he was featured in their ‘The New Boys’ column and I expected him to sue them. However he didn’t. Proctor became a source of fascination to the ‘Eye’ and sometime later they published allegations that a building that he owned was housing members of the League of St George (a far-right group) and then allegations that someone had been walking past his London flat, heard guttural noises coming from within and observed bloody handprints on the outside of the building. Interestingly, no-one from the Tories denied these stories, they just ignored them. The rumours continued to circulate and eventually some Tories started expressing the opinion that Proctor was a serious embarrassment and that they’d rather he stood down.

In 1986 ‘The People’ newspaper claimed that Proctor was in same sex relationships with males and then the shit really hit the fan – in 1987 Proctor was found guilty of gross indecency and fined after participating in spanking sessions in which young male prostitutes were tied up. The prostitutes involved were not ‘children’, but they were under the legal age of consent for gay sex between men, which at the time was 21. Proctor and others who were charged under similar circumstances now angrily point out that they were targeted for being gay and that the men that they were having sex with would these days be over the age of consent. I take their point about the relevant changes in the law – but whereas some of these men were charged for offences involving young men between the ages of 16 and 21, there were constant allegations that some of them had sometimes been sexually involved with boys under the age of 16. Furthermore these rent boys had frequently been trafficked into prostitution at the age of 16-17 after leaving children’s homes, where they had been ‘groomed’ by years of sexual abuse – often accompanied by violence if they resisted. This was certainly the pattern regarding the kids from north Wales children’s homes – and John Allen, the owner of the Bryn Alyn Community, was known to own brothels in London and Brighton where children formerly in his care were sent after they left the children’s homes. The boys pimped by Allen also alleged that he was involved with a major crime ring dealing in child porn and drugs. The defence used by Proctor et al never involves answering any difficult questions about where those rent boys had come from and why they were so willing to have sex with rather deranged sometimes elderly MPs whom they could not have found attractive in any way.

Proctor resigned his seat after his conviction and Theresa Gorman succeeded him. In 1988 Proctor established a shop in Richmond-Upon-Thames selling shirts, ties and waistcoats, after receiving a grant from the Gov’ts Enterprise Allowance Scheme. Proctor had considerable help establishing this business. The Tory Whip Tristan Garel-Jones organised the raising of the sum of £75,000 and over the following years, as Proctor’s shop repeatedly encountered financial difficulties, Tory MPs and former Tory MPs came to the rescue. Some of the people who were financially involved with Proctor’s business were Jeffrey Archer, Michael Heseltine, David Heathcote-Amory, Mark Lennox-Boyd, Sir Nicholas Bonsor, Richard Shephard, David Evans, Neil Hamilton, Christine Hamilton, Tim Yeo, Michael Brown, David Ashby, Sir Neil Thorne, William Benyon and Sir Charles Morrison. Charles Morrison was the older brother of Sir Peter Morrison whom it is now admitted was molesting boys in their mid-teens and younger, including boys resident in children’s homes in north Wales. Heseltine and Archer invested more than £100,000 in Proctor’s shop.

There was a punch-up in the shop in 1992. Two young men entered and asked Proctor ‘have you any ties for tying up rent boys before you spank them?’ Proctor tried to get them out of the shop and a fight broke out. Incredibly enough Neil and Christine Hamilton were in the shop at the time and Hamilton came to Proctor’s assistance when the young men assaulted Proctor. Proctor was punched in the face and had his little finger broken and Neil Hamilton ended up with a broken nose. The two men were charged and convicted.

In spite of the enormous helping hand that Proctor received from well-wishing Tories, his business eventually went bust. In 2003 Proctor was appointed the Private Secretary to the 11th Duke of Rutland at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire. He entered obscurity but of course hit the media again in 2015 when he was named as a suspect in the Operation Midland investigation into child abuse. Proctor held a press conference at which he angrily denied all allegations made against him – which included allegations that he had sexually tortured boys, attempted to castrate one of them and that a boy was murdered. The allegations against Proctor were tied up with allegations that Ted Heath abused boys – Proctor maintained that he hated Ted Heath so much that he wouldn’t have shared a cup of tea with him, let alone have attended an orgy in his company.

The Operation Midland investigation was halted after the publication of Sir Richard Henriques’ highly critical report into the way that the police had conducted the investigation. In Nov 2016 the Commissioner of the Met, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, apologised to Proctor. Proctor began legal action against the Metropolitan Police in Feb 2017. Sir Richard Henriques was the judge who dismissed the appeal of Jeremy Bamber in 2002. Jeremy Bamber is serving a life sentence for the murder of three members of his family – there has been mounting concern for years that his case is a serious miscarriage of justice. Bamber was convicted substantially as a result of the evidence given by a Top Doctor from St Andrew’s Hospital Northampton, an institution with a history of patient neglect and abuse – the Top Doctor seems to have been untruthful when giving evidence (see post ‘Family Annihilation’).

Although I too found it difficult to believe that Proctor would have done anything at all with Ted Health including sexually abusing boys, I note that one of the investors in Proctor’s business, Sir Charles Morrison, had been a big fan of Heath’s. Charles Morrison was the MP for Devizes (1964-92) and died in 2005. His obituary in the ‘Daily Telegraph’ makes interesting reading. It contrasts the political differences between Charles and his brother Peter – Charles being a ‘die hard Heathite rebel’ and Peter being an aide to Thatcher. The Morrisons’ had a sister – Dame Mary Morrison, who was Woman of the Bed Chamber to the Queen for over 50 years. Charles Morrison’s wife was related by marriage to Ian Fleming, who wrote an article entitled ‘To Westminster With Love’, the opening words being ‘Charles Morrison – Licensed To Kill’. Well somebody certainly was, witnesses to the activities of Peter Morrison and his associates were constantly found dead.

Michael Brown, one of Proctor’s friends at York, was a part time research assistant to Michael Marshall between 1975-76 and between 1976-79 worked for Nicholas Winterton MP. In 1979 Brown was elected as a Tory MP himself and remained as one until May 1994. Brown was a member of the Monday Club and the Eldon League. He was a founder member of the No Turning Back group, which included Peter Lilley, Neil Hamilton and Michael Portillo. Brown and Portillo were extremely good friends in the early 80s, so much so that they went on holidays together, along with someone else close to them, Derek Laud, who was Brown’s research assistant for a considerable period of time.

Brown was a supporter of the apartheid regime in South Africa and in Feb 1988 visited South Africa with Neil Hamilton – their trip was funded by the South African Authorities.

Brown was PPS to Douglas Hogg, between 1989-90 when Hogg was at the DTI and then between 1990-92 when Hogg was at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Between 1992-93 Brown was PPS to Patrick Mayhew, Secretary of State for N Ireland. Mayhew was a barrister, who when he was younger had acted as Counsel for the GMC – the GMC who famously allowed Dr Morris Fraser, a child psychiatrist who was a paedophile, to continue practising in the 70s. But then they allowed Dafydd to practice and he was facilitating a paedophile ring. In 1993 Brown became an assistant Gov’t Whip.

Brown was involved with the Cash for Questions scandal, along with Neil Hamilton, Sir Michael Grylls and Sir Peter Morrison. Brown accepted money to lobby on behalf of U.S. Tobacco without declaring it and also failed to declare an interest in the notoriously carcinogenic Skoal Bandits.

Michael Brown resigned as an MP in 1994 after the ‘News of the World’ published photos of him on holiday in Barbados with a gay man who was under the age of consent.

Brown was in the wilderness for a short while but bounced back in April 1998 after he submitted a piece for the ‘Independent’ which they accepted. The Indie then offered him a regular commission as a political sketch writer, starting in 1999. I mentioned in my post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’ that after he left office, Ken Clarke joined the Board of the ‘Independent’. Helena Kennedy, another name which will be familiar to readers of this blog, was also on the Board at the time. Clarke left office in 1997 – he joined the ‘Independent’ at some point after that. Michael Brown then also picked up work for other papers. He is now a political journalist who makes regular appearances as a commentator and newspaper reviewer on British TV, especially BBC News 24 and Sky News.

I note that Brown’s troubles began at the time that Gordon Anglesea sued for libel after a number of media outlets named Anglesea as abusing boys in care in north Wales and just as the Jillings investigation into child abuse in north Wales was launched. His career recovered whilst the Waterhouse Inquiry was nearing it’s end, when Amanda Platell had her feet firmly under the table at Conservative Central Office as Press Officer (see post ‘Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Quiet?’) and after Sir Peter Morrison had been found safely dead at the bottom of the stairs at his home.

I have mentioned that Brown and Portillo were good friends with Derek Laud, Brown’s research assistant and they even all went on holidays together. Laud was also a member of the Monday Club in the early 1980s. By the mid 1980s he was working for Tory MPs and Gov’t advisors as a researcher and as a special advisor to Sir Gordon Downey, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. During the second half of the 80s Laud was an aide and speechwriter for Thatcher. He also helped Alan Clark and Michael Heseltine with their speeches. During the 1992 general election Laud acted as a campaign aide and fundraiser for John Major.

In the mid 80s Laud established Strategic Network International, a company set up to campaign against anti-apartheid movements and in the late 80s he worked in private equity finance. In 1992 he co-founded the lobbying company Ludgate Laud. Laud is co-founder and executive director of New City Initiative, a think tank and financial lobbying company. He holds multiple positions at the ‘wealth management’ company Stanhope Capital LLP. In recent years Laud has became a TV celeb – including an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother and in 2005 he partnered Edwina Currie on a TV quiz.

In the 1990s Laud was active in support of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), a political party in Namibia backed by the South African Gov’t.

Laud has a rather different background to many of the people in the Conservative Party with whom he is mates. He came from a Jamaican family in south London but had a very big rift with his mother when he was fourteen, which he attributes to him being gay, but he never quite explained how exactly. He moved out of his mother’s house and had no contact with her for many years – he moved in with Anna Meeham the head of the school that he attended in Clapham. Anna lived with her sister Cecily who was a child psychologist – Cecily was friends with a Judge Ann Goddard. Laud has remained very close to these two sisters, particularly Cecily. In an interview with the ‘Daily Mail’ in 2007 he stresses their importance in his life and says that he consults them about everything.

I mentioned in my post ‘Are You Local?’ that teenaged boys from Ty’r Felin, the children’s home in Bangor run by the brutal Nefyn Dodd, were being trafficked into prostitution. They were hired out to men renting hotel rooms in the local area but they were also taken to London, where they were received by a Tory fundraiser and aide of Thatcher’s who had an apartment in Dolphin Square. I received an e mail from a journalist some weeks ago alleging that the man in question was Derek Laud.

Michael Portillo, a close friend of Laud and Brown’s, graduated from Cambridge in 1975 and in 1976 joined the Conservative Research Dept. He became a Gov’t advisor in 1979 and was elected to the Commons in 1984. He was given a seat in the Cabinet in 1992, as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. He was Secretary of State for Employment (1994-95) and Secretary of State for Defence (1995-97). Throughout this time he was known as the ‘darling of the right’ and in his early days as an MP many had seen him as the heir to Thatcher. He lost his seat unexpectedly in the 1997 general election. He returned to the Commons in 1999, after being elected for Kensington and Chelsea, Alan Clark’s seat, after Clark died. He became Shadow Chancellor. Portillo retired from the Commons in 2005 and is now largely known for his media work and is a regular on the BBC.

The right wing of the Tory Party eventually developed a problem with Portillo in the aftermath of him fessing up in 1998 that he had ‘had some homosexual experiences’ when he was a young man. As it became clear that Portillo’s homosexual experiences might have been rather more extensive than he’d let on, people like Norman Tebbit became very angry and accused him of deceiving them. Which I think he probably did – he married a woman in 1982, voted against gay equality legislation and denied the rumours circulating that he was gay. I knew someone in north Wales back in the 1990s who used to go to gay clubs in London and Manchester who told me that he’d seen Portillo in gay clubs. Many years ago Michael Gove alleged in one of his books that there was quite an interesting party scene in Portillo’s Cambridge College – Peterhouse – whilst Portillo was there, including cross-dressing parties at which men were given girls names which were attended by both undergrads and Fellows of the College. There were a number of allegations circulating about Portillo, including that he was one of the Tories who was having sex with under-aged boys. I have no idea whether he was or not – but I think that he certainly knew people who were. He has known one person since he was a teenager who definitely did keep quiet about paedophile activity in children’s homes – Diane Abbott, the former Press and PR Officer for Lambeth Borough Council, whose own children’s homes were rife with a paedophile activity and who also sent children in care to John Allen’s Bryn Alyn Community in north Wales.

Another Tory who was the subject of allegations that he was gay was the man with the little list, Peter Lilley. Lilley felt obliged to issue a denial in the end and he stated that he found the idea of homosexuality about as appetising as eating cardboard. Lilley had been at Cambridge with Ken Clarke, Michael Howard, John Selwyn Gummer and Norman Lamont. Lilley was a member of the No Turning Back group along with Portillo, Hamilton and Michael Brown. He was the Chair of the Bow Group, 1973-75. He was elected as a Tory MP in 1987 and retired in 2017. He was PPS to Nigel Lawson, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (July 1990-April 1992) and Secretary of State for Social Security (April 1992-May 1997). Lilley was always right behind Margaret Thatcher, but when he realised that she was going to lose the leadership contest in 1990 he very quickly changed his allegiances and supported John Major.

The toxic Child Support Agency was one of Lilley’s initiatives, although whether he was responsible for appointing as head of the CSA the equally toxic Ros Hepplewhite – formerly Chief Exec of MIND whilst that organisation concealed horrors in north Wales perpetrated by the paedophiles’ friends – I do not know. In 1977 Lilley co-authored a book with Samuel Brittan, brother of the dreadful Leon, who has been named as a child abuser. Leon’s family and friends have robustly denied the allegations, but what is certain is that Leon lost a dossier given to him by Geoffrey Dickens MP whilst Leon was Home Secretary – the dossier contained names and details of Westminster figures whom were alleged to be abusing children. Many other files relating to child abuse also went walkabout from the Home Office whilst Leon was there. Please see post ‘A Few Of The Relevant Politicians In The Mary Wynch Case’ for an account of the hissy fit that Samuel Brittan threw in the mid 80s when the box office at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival failed to pull strings for him and how dear old Michael Grade promised to help him out.

Lilley’s father was personnel officer at the BBC. R.D. Laing once commented when observing his son growing up that he felt himself rocked by successive generations. I’ve experienced a similar sensation when researching for this blog.

Proctor and Michael Brown’s friend from York, Christine Holman, eventually married Neil Hamilton. Christine had worked as secretary for Tory MP Sir Michael Grylls (father of Bear). Years later, Grylls ended up in a lot of trouble in the Cash for Questions scandal, along with Hamilton, Brown and Peter Morrison. Grylls was a Tory MP for 27 years who stood down in 1997. In 1990 he took cash payments and misled the select committee on members interests.

The most notorious MP involved in the Cash for Questions saga was of course Christine Hamilton’s husband Neil. Neil Hamilton has been involved in such extensive scandal and wrongdoing that I cannot detail it all here, so I’ll just provide a few highlights.

Neil Hamilton grew up in Carmarthenshire – his father was a manager for the National Coal Board. Hamilton eventually became a barrister specialising in taxation. He went to Aberystwyth University, that institution which trained so many of the corrupt lawyers named on this blog, although Hamilton didn’t read law there. After Aber, he went to Cambridge and then embarked on a legal career. There are a lot of people in Wales who remember Hamilton from his time at Aber and there are some interesting stories circulating. He was a member of the Federation of Conservative Students at Aber between 1968-74. He was elected for the Conservatives in Tatton in 1983 and held the seat until 1997, when he was beaten by the journalist Martin Bell who stood on an anti-sleaze ticket. Hamilton was a member of the No Turning Back group and his network included Alun Duncan and Gerald Howarth. He was also a member of the Eldon League.

In June 1984 Hamilton was the subject of a BBC Panorama programme, ‘Maggie’s Militant Tendency’, which detailed some seriously bad behaviour and worrying connections on the part of Neil Hamilton. In Oct 1986 Hamilton and Gerald Howarth sued the BBC for libel. The prosecution was funded by James Goldsmith and Taki, the Spectator journalist. David Davis was at the time a Director for Tate and Lyle and persuaded them to donate to Hamilton’s fighting fund. Hamilton stated that his main character witness would be Norman St John Stevas. I mentioned in my post ‘It’s The Sun Wot Won It’ that when I worked at St George’s Hospital Medical School between 1989-91, a member of staff there was a young man well-acquainted with the London gay scene who told me that Norman St John Stevas was known to holding ‘spanking parties with little boys’ and that ‘no-one knows how he’s getting away with it’. I was told this before the many allegations of politicians molesting children appeared in the media on a regular basis.

In October 1986 the BBC caved in to Hamilton suddenly and unexpectedly. A representative of the National Young Conservatives hinted at a stitch-up and the Director General of the BBC Alisdair Milne maintained that he had acted under the instruction of the BBC Governors, who had ordered the Board of Management to settle  case before the defence interrogated Hamilton. The BBC paid the legal costs of Hamilton and Howarth and issued an apology. Attention focussed on the actions of Malcolm McAlpine, the cousin of Alistair McAlpine, the Conservative Party treasurer. Malcom McAlpine denied promising Hamilton that he could ‘deliver’ the Governors behind a settlement.

Alistair McAlpine became headline news in 2012, when he was named on ‘Newsnight’ by Steve Messham as being one of the men who had sexually abused him whilst Messham was in Bryn Estyn. McAlpine denied it and successfully sued a number of people who repeated the allegation. The McAlpine family do have a connection to north Wales though – the mother of Owen Lloyd George (THE Lloyd George’s grandson) was a McAlpine. Two descendants of Lloyd George, Annwen Carey Evans and D.B. Carey Evans, signed the ‘memorandum’ presented to Parliament in 2008 – the memorandum that was initiated and largely signed by the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University!’) and designed to put a stop to Edwina Hart’s efforts as she confronted the corruption of the paedophiles’ friends in the north Wales NHS.

Hamilton’s action against the BBC involved some very worrying happenings and there were allegations of witness intimidation – a BBC internal memo to the Board of Management claimed that 17 witnesses were intimidated into changing their testimony. Conservative Central Office were accused of orchestrating a cover-up. Dale Campbell-Savours MP maintained that he had evidence in the form of a letter and a tape that demonstrated BBC nobbling. Campbell-Savours sent a copy of the tape to Michael Havers, the Attorney General and accused Conservative Central Office of interfering with potential witnesses.

In Dec 1986 Hamilton became PPS to Sir David Mitchell. Mitchell was a Hampshire MP between 1964-97 and was a Minister in Thatcher’s Gov’t. His is the father of Andrew Mitchell, who was Chief Whip in Cameron’s Gov’t between 2010-12 and at the centre of Plebgate. Andrew Mitchell’s wife is a Top Doctor.

Hamilton became a Whip in 1990. In June 1990 he was recruited by Derek Laud to work for Strategy Group International for which Hamilton received a fee from Michael Brown.

Hamilton was a keen supporter of Thatcher and after Heseltine’s leadership challenge in Nov 1990 was quoted as saying ‘I fed all my intelligence into her campaign’. My post ‘It’s The Sun Wot Won It’ mentions the degree of socialising that the Hamiltons were doing with Sir Peter Morrison – whose constituency was next to Hamilton’s – at a time when Morrison’s abuse of under-aged boys was openly talked about at social events involving the City of Chester Conservative Association. Between 1992-94 Hamilton was a Minister in Major’s Govt.

During the Cash for Questions scandal it was revealed that Hamilton did not register his consultancy fee from Strategy Network International, that he enjoyed free hospitality at the Ritz Hotel in Paris – owned by al Fayed – had stayed at al Fayed’s castle in Scotland without declaring it and that he had received many thousands of pounds from al Fayed which was handed over in the now infamous brown envelopes.

In the wake of the allegations that flew during Cash for Questions, in Jan 1998 Hamilton launched a libel action against al Fayed. Lord Harris of High Cross raised £100k to help fund the case and many other Tories also donated, including Lord Tim Bell and Simon Heffer. Over £400k was raised. Lord Harris had founded the No Turning Back group in 1985 and had a long association with the economists and think tanks which had exerted such influence on the economic policies of Thatcher’s administrations. He was the founding President of the Institute for Economic Affairs from 1990 until his death in 2006, proposed the idea of an ‘independent’ university and then became a Council member of Buckingham University (1980-85), famously the UK’s first private university. In 2003 Harris was also the Chairman and President of FOREST, the pro-smoking charity which was largely funded by the tobacco industry. Between 2008-2001 Harris was a Director of the Murdoch-owned Times Newspapers. Harris also wrote for the ‘Telegraph’.

Hamilton lost his libel action in Dec 1999 and subsequently filed for bankruptcy.

Following their disgrace and a memorable ‘Guardian’ headline confirming that Neil Hamilton was a liar and a cheat, the Hamiltons reinvented themselves as celebs. The BBC welcomed them with open arms and they appeared regularly on various TV shows, including ‘Have I Got News For You’. Their celebrity status had a downside. In 2001 they were accused of rape and sexual assault by a young woman who it later transpired was quite troubled and enjoyed a rich fantasy life. Her allegations against the Hamiltons were found to be demonstrably untrue – although the Hamiltons were arrested and questioned. The young woman subsequently went to prison, which was probably not the best place for her. However, the identity of the Hamilton’s alibi is noteworthy – it was Derek Laud, who maintained that the Hamiltons were having dinner with him at the time that they were alleged to have assaulted the young woman.

Cash for Questions was one of the key factors that did for John Major’s Gov’t. Another Tory MP who faced allegations of sleaze was Tim Smith who was elected in 1982 and stood down in 1997 after allegations that he received bribes. Smith was known to have accepted cash payments from al Fayed. Tim Smith worked for Leon Brittan in the Home Office 1983-85 and was a N Ireland Minister between Jan and Oct 1994.

What is overwhelming obvious here – particularly when considered alongside the information in my previous posts – is what a cradle of filth this was. There were a number of politicians close to Margaret Thatcher at the heart of Gov’t who were utterly unscrupulous and using any means available to them, including the gross abuse of their positions, to line their own pockets. There were some politicians who were known to be abusing young boys and rather more who were using the services of rent boys slightly under the then age of consent without asking any questions at all concerning where those rent boys were coming from. The networks and links – even just the ones that I have detailed on this blog – mean that these activities must have been widely known about in Westminster, as must have been some of the means being used to silence witnesses.

It is striking how many of the people named on this blog as having been involved in child abuse or in keeping it quiet also had careers in the media. Even the Hamiltons who had been utterly disgraced – and that was before the child molesting activities of their mate Peter Morrison became public knowledge – were invited to appear on prime time light entertainment BBC programmes, as though they were simply an entertaining colourful couple rather than a pair of lying, cheating crooks who intimidated anyone who dared take them on. But then there was effectively a deal done between Thatcher’s Gov’t and parts of the media. The BBC was notoriously craven – because it was usually presumed they were terrified of the Gov’t stopping the funding of the BBC via the licence fee. But the BBC was of course also employing and concealing the activities of Savile – who was literally a mate of Thatcher’s. Everybody was doing so much that they shouldn’t have been that no-one dared grass anybody else up. As for the newspapers – well Murdoch and Thatcher had a very obvious deal which I was reminded of when listening to the Radio 4 programme ‘The Reunion’ this morning. They were reminiscing about the Wapping dispute, the means by which Murdoch broke the print unions. The print unions enjoyed the support of many on the left but I don’t think that they should have – their practices were dreadful and involved actively excluding women and ethnic minorities from jobs, as well as large scale fiddling. They were of course happy to keep printing ‘The Sun’ all the way through the Falklands campaign even when it published photos of ‘injured Argies’ and a fictitious interview with a war widow which helped Thatcher to win another election. The print unions only started squealing when Murdoch went after them. He used the anti-union laws that the Thatcher Gov’t had passed to do this – the union was broken when the Courts sequestered their assets. Under Murdoch’s ownership the Times newspapers undoubtedly changed in character with the installation of people like Andrew Neil as editors – all Murdoch’s publications became uncritical defenders of everything that the Conservative Gov’t did. They were never going to publish stories about Thatcher’s aides abusing children and participating in substantial financial corruption, particularly when some of the political figures connected to child abuse were involved with bank-rolling the Conservative Party.

I have mentioned many times in previous posts how the Labour Party stood by impotent – they couldn’t blow the whistle, because so many of their MPs had been Councillors on the London boroughs overseeing the ‘services’ in which the children were sexually abused and then trafficked – to be sexually used by some of the very people whom the Councillors loathed and dearly wanted to see out of office. I have mentioned that some people who later made it big in New Labour actually worked as social workers themselves in those Councils, such as Tessa Jowell and Janet Boateng. This blog has also named a number of ‘radical lawyers’ with connections to the Labour Party who undoubtedly knew what was happening to those kids and the further abuse of them at the hands of the mental health services if they dared complain – lawyers who did not say a word, or even some, such as Patricia Scotland, who actually acted for the state in public inquiries which were no more than massive cover-ups of the abuse of children by public figures. The role of Margaret Hodge as leader of Islington Council whilst the children’s homes were infested with paedophiles has received substantial publicity, but there is one former lawyer who hit the big time with New Labour who is still skilfully hiding away, although her biography suggests that she bloody well knew about all this as well – I am talking about that well-known victim of oppression, Harriet!

Harriet Harman was interviewed by Peter Hennessey on Radio 4 earlier this week and I steeled myself to listen to the whole interview, because I have always suspected that Harriet, daughter of a Harley Street Top Doctor herself and an eternal whinger – referencing very simplistic notions of gender inequality but showing a complete ignorance of class inequality – knew a lot more about institutionalised child abuse than she ever let on. Harriet was famously outed a few years ago as having been involved with the NCCL – along with many of her New Labour mates – whilst NCCL was affiliated with PIE, a group lobbying for paedophiles’ rights. Harriet got very angry indeed and claimed that she was the subject of a smear campaign – and then someone produced a document written for the NCCL by a Harriet Harman in her capacity as their legal officer, which certainly read as though it was arguing for paedophiles rights. See posts ‘The London Connection’ and ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’ for the idiocies of the NCCL and their officers who later became senior figures in New Labour.

I have always accepted that Harriet really is not very bright at all and I could well imagine a young, over-privileged stupid Harriet deciding that she was going to change the world by telling it what to do, only to find herself being used by a bunch of paedophiles’ friends who probably couldn’t believe their luck at stumbling across such a dimwit. I was right! Throughout her interview with Hennessey, Harriet stressed how she wasn’t going to listen to the old fuddy duddies in her family like Lord Longford – she obviously doesn’t understand that she only ended up at the top of the Labour Party because she came from that immensely privileged and well-connected family, it certainly wasn’t through ability – she and her friends were going to change everything and she was delighted to maintain that they did. Some of them even worked whilst they were pregnant, which Harriet pointed out had never been done before – her own mother hadn’t. Harriet – that’s because your mother was Very Posh and could afford not to work. If you had ever read any social history at all, you would know that Poor People have for many generations worked whilst they were pregnant. Likewise, your memories of dressing up in your mother’s barrister’s wig and robes when you were little because she’d put them in your dressing up box was not so much a symbol of your mother’s oppression, it was a Signal to you from your mother of the sort of adult that you were expected to grow up to be. It worked – you are as thick as pig shit but you still became a lawyer and indeed even Solicitor General.

I did however learn a few more things about Harriet from that interview. That she was at York University when Proctor and his mates were there. She mentioned that she was ‘political’ but that the Conservative students at York were foul. Yes and some of them just a few years later did some very interesting things with rent boys and money. Harriet will not have forgotten that she was at York with Proctor et al when they hit the headlines some years later – but she couldn’t say a thing about their activities…

I also learnt that after her stint at NCCL, Harriet worked at Brent Law Centre (1978-82) at a time when the paedophile gangs that supplied the Westminster Paedophile Ring were in full swing. Brent Law Centre will have dealt with child care and mental health cases. In 1984, the complete fuckwittery of Brent Social Services resulted in the death of Jasmine Beckford (see post ‘Ian Brockington’s Mischief’). Jasmine was starved and beaten to death by her stepfather – she had been in the care of Brent Social Services for two and a half years before she died. So Brent Social Services were ‘caring’ for Jasmine whilst Harriet worked down the road at the Law Centre leading the way for the nation’s wimmin and planning her future career in the Labour Party. Paul Boateng was also busy in the area at the time and was MP for Brent South (1987-2005). The Paul Boateng who worked in the legal firm that acted for Mary Wynch (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case -Details’) and who is married to Janet Boateng, a former social worker for Lambeth who Chaired the Social Services Committee at the time of the death of Tyra Henry in 1984 (see posts ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’ and ‘A Few More Who Might Be Able To Answer Questions’). Ken Livingstone was busy in the area as well and served as MP for Brent East (1987-2001). The Ken who led the GLC when so many of the kids in it’s care were abused on Ken’s patch or exported to children’s homes in north Wales to be abused. Brent embraces part of Camden – Tessa’s old stomping ground. For details of the many links that those from the London boroughs had to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal, see post ‘The London Connection’.

I think that Harriet definitely knew that there was a problem – and her silence meant that her and her mates were not able to ‘change everything’ at all. Harriet didn’t just keep quiet when she was a young woman with an eye on a Labour seat (she was subsequently elected for Peckham, one of the most disadvantaged parts of London. I very much doubt whether the Council there was caring for the kids properly). Harriet’s lips remained sealed when she was an Older Empowered Strong Woman. She was Solicitor General in 2001, shortly after the publication of the Waterhouse Report at the time of the allegations of a huge cover-up. Not a word. In 2005 she was Minister of State for the Dept of Constitutional Affairs and represented Charlie Falconer on the Commons frontbench – whilst Charlie concealed the heap of manure and ensured that anyone who had suffered at the hands of the paedophiles’ friends would have no legal redress by making it impossible to access Legal Aid. Charlie’s withdrawing of Legal Aid also very nearly put the two lawyers in north Wales who were doing a pretty good job of fighting the paedophiles’ friends out of business. Now that would have been a great relief for those we know and love.

When Harriet and her close friend Patricia Hewitt discovered that MI5 had kept files on them as a result of their involvement with NCCL they became very angry, took a case to the European Court of Human Rights and subsequently there was a change in the law. Well Harriet and Patsy were only working for an organisation that was lobbying on behalf of paedophiles whilst there was a problem with senior figures in Gov’t abusing children, children who were later found dead, with the alleged involvement of rogue members of the security services. Why ever would MI5 be keeping files on Harriet and Patsy?

Harriet remains good friends with Patsy to this day. Patsy was formerly the General Secretary of NCCL during it’s Paedophile Period and later became the MP for Leicester West, after Greville Janner stood down. The Greville Janner whom the CPS has admitted should have been prosecuted for abusing boys but wasn’t, for reasons that the CPS have never been able to explain. Keith Vaz – he of the male prostitutes and drugs – also became an MP in Leicester, after a stint working as the senior solicitor for Islington Council in the mid 80s as the paedophile ring operating in the Islington children’s homes ran riot and a further stint working as a solicitor in a Law Centre in Leicester which was funded by Leicester City Council between 1985-87 as the paedophile ring there did it’s best (see post ‘One Of The Safest Pairs Of Hands At The Criminal Bar’ for further details on Keith, his mum and his sister). The paedophile ring in operation in Leicestershire children’s homes had as it’s key figure the social worker Franck Beck who was later imprisoned. It is not only Labour politicians with dirty linen who are drawn to Leicestershire – Harvey Proctor ended up there as well.

During the Hennessey interview Harriet spoke a lot about her battles with the male creatures who clutter up Parliament and explained that the reason why she accepted a place on the front bench when offered one by Neil Kinnock was that Patsy had told her that she ‘had a responsibility’ to sit on the front bench or other wimmin would not believe that it was possible. Thank God we’ve got Harriet to show us the way.

The fuckwittedness of Patsy’s comment had clearly escaped Harriet – whilst Harriet was exercising her responsibilities as a Role Model there was of course a woman PM. Harriet did know this. As she explained her ‘visceral hostility’ to Thatcher to Hennessey, she recounted a little anecdote – that just after her first baby was born (that will have been Joe Dromey who was famously taken into Parliament as a newborn), she was walking down a corridor with her baby when she saw Thatcher approaching. She was so desperate not to allow Thatcher’s ‘eyes to fall on my baby’ that she dived into a side room. Harriet told Hennessey that if that side room hadn’t have been available, she would have covered her baby’s face with a blanket to prevent the wicked witch from giving him the evil eye. I wouldn’t really want any children of mine to be left in the company of Thatcher, but the difference between me and you Harriet is that once I obtained the evidence pointing to a paedophile ring in operation with connections to Westminster that was concealed at the highest levels, I published it as soon as I was in a position to do so. You did not. But then there never was any chance of your child being taken into care by the sort of fuckwitted social worker like Tessa Jowell who were employed in the London boroughs in such great numbers and then being transported to a children’s home in north Wales where he would have been beaten, starved, forced to work free of charge, sexually abused and then trafficked back down to London as a rent boy. That Harriet is why Joe is now a senior research fellow in the IPPR, not stuck in an abusive mental health system, in prison or dead.

Since she released her blockbuster ‘A Woman’s Work’ recently, Harriet has explained that the reason why she never became leader of the Labour Party is of course because she is a woman and Gordon Discriminated. So we all had a lucky escape thanks to Gordon’s entrenched sexism.

There is yet another nightmare scenario looming on the horizon. There is talk in Labour circles of who is going to succeed Jeremy and I am horrified to read that the name being touted about is Emily Thornberry, on the grounds not of her brilliance but that she is of the left and that the next leader ‘must be a woman’.  That’s sounds a rather dogmatic position, but if it has to be a woman, please don’t let that woman be Emily Thornberry. Emily is of course best-known for sending out an offensive and massively damaging tweet whilst she was campaigning – a tweet of a photo of a new-build house draped in numerous flags of St George with a white van parked in the drive. Emily’s tweet suggested that the inhabitant of the said house must be a right wing oik from the lower orders – and the world went apeshit with a backlash. Emily was denounced as the worst example of the Labour metropolitan elite, out of touch with and contemptuous of less privileged people. The damage to the Labour Party was massive, but instead of accepting that she probably shouldn’t try and take a leading role in the Party lest she inflict more damage, Emily conducted a series of media interviews in which she stressed her humble origins as a kid from a council estate. She then continued to appear on TV as a spokesperson for Labour, screwing up badly because she didn’t know salient facts – which she blamed on the sexism of the interviewers. At the same time, much appeared in the press about the very expensive house in which she lives – the same part of Islington as the Blairs, just around the corner from Margaret Hodge -and it was revealed that she owns a number of other not at all cheap properties as well. It was confirmed that for a while as a child Emily had lived on a council estate, although no-one was quite sure when or why – yet her father was an international lawyer, a Professor at King’s College London and UN Assistant Secretary General. Emily’s mother had been a Labour Councillor and the Mayor in Guildford. Emily’s mum had encouraged her to go into politics – Emily became Labour MP (she was selected on an all-woman shortlist) for Islington and Finsbury in 2005. It was also revealed that Emily is married to High Court Judge Sir Christopher Nugee, so she is actually Lady Emily Nugee, but she became very vexed indeed when David Cameron called her that.

As ever though, the right wing press haven’t done their homework – well maybe they have, but unlike Service Shenanigans, there is an elephant in the room that they won’t tackle. Has Sir Christopher Nugee presided over miscarriages of justice? No, he doesn’t seem to have. Has his chambers been involved in anything shameful regarding court cases involving politicians and children? No – although the chambers probably doesn’t have clean hands, it specialises in finance, including off-shore trusts.

The elephant in the room is Emily. Before Emily became an MP she was a barrister, between 1985 and 2005. She worked at Took’s Court Chambers, the chambers of Michael Mansfield. I wrote to Michael Mansfield in 1993 or 1994 and informed him of my prosecution in Bangor Magistrates Court for ‘staring at a social worker in Safeways’, after I had complained about law-breaking on the part of the mental health services. I also complimented him on his recently published book ‘Presumed Guilty’, about miscarriages of justice and the abuse of public order legislation – that’s why I wrote to him, I explained that it was that legislation (which Thatcher’s Gov’t had specifically passed to use against striking miners) that was used to prosecute me. I received a reply from Mr Mansfield, but it simply thanked me for my letter and said ‘it is always good to have support’. Michael Mansfield will have known when he read my letter that there had been a recent media storm regarding the possible existence of a paedophile ring in north Wales providing children to politicians and that there were allegations that the police, the social services, the Top Doctors, lawyers, judges and the Welsh Office were involved in a huge cover-up. He will have known that it was a social worker from Bangor, Gwynedd – where I lived, the address was on my letter to him – who had been sacked for blowing the whistle on the paedophile ring. He will have known that a senior police officer, Gordon Anglesea, had been named by two young men on TV as having abused them when they were in Bryn Estyn children’s home and that Gordon Anglesea had launched a libel case against the media outlets that named him and that he was being supported by the Police Federation.

One would have thought that my letter would have had the antennae of the UK’s most high profile radical barrister twitching like mad. Mansfield had defended members of the IRA, acted for the Birmingham Six and given his services to the NUM free of charge during the miners’ strike. He had a reputation as a lawyer who was not afraid to take on the British State at it’s worst. But Mr Mansfield walked straight by on the other side of the road. Although he must have realised that someone had written to him who had evidence that if, pursued, could do serious damage to John Major’s Gov’t as well as to the politicians involved in the previous administrations – including Thatcher herself, who had destroyed his personal friend Scargill. But defending members of the IRA is obviously easier than defending someone under attack from the paedophiles’ friends. Emily was working at Tooks when I sent that letter to Michael Mansfield. Other people who have worked with Mr Mansfied include Helena Kennedy and Patricia Scotland, both stars of this blog and members of the network of paedophiles’ friends…

Not only is Emily one of the paedophiles’ friends, but King’s College London – the home of yet more of the paedophiles’ friends – where Emily’s dad held a Chair, was host to some interesting activities. In the 80s there was a scam going on among some of the students. In order to earn a few quid they were marrying foreign nationals in order for them to acquire permission to enter or remain in the UK. Someone I worked with at St George’s, whilst he had been a physiology student at Kings, had married one of the other students from America to enable her to stay in the UK. He had been paid many thousands of pounds for his service – after the marriage they shared a house whilst leading a separate existence and went their separate ways entirely a few years later, once the legal requirements had been fulfilled. There was also a professor in King’s College School of Medicine who was having sex with his own children. This was openly discussed among the Top Doctors on the London medical scene. No-one suggested any sort of investigation into the Professor of gynaecology concerned.

I think that I’m going to have to devise a classification system for the paedophiles’ friends because there are just so many of them. There’s going to have to be a category of the paedophiles’ bestest friends, such as Arfon Jones, the esteemed North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner and dear old Dafydd and Lucille. Then there will have to be the paedophiles’ very good friends, such as Dr Peter Higson. Then the paedophiles good friends; then the paedophiles’ ‘colleagues’ – a mixed bag, some of whom have no problems with the paedophiles at all but this category also includes some who tolerate them in order to gain personal advancement (a very big category); then the biggest category of all, containing many thousands of people from across the UK in many walks of life – those who knew what the paedophiles were doing but were too spineless to do anything at all, no matter how minor, to stop them. I might also need a sub-category – the paedophiles’ friends who are just in it for the money. I met a few of these at St George’s. They would actually drool over the idea of serious money and say things like ‘ooh I’d love to be rich’ – they reached fever-pitch after visits to the West End when they would catch glimpses of the money-laundering crooks with gangster connections of whom they were so envious. They didn’t like me very much, they accused me of being ‘naive’ and being like I was because I was a sheepshagger from Wales. No you stupid fuckers, it was because I had seen what was happening to those kids who were living in the children’s homes in north Wales and being groomed for sex work in London who dared to complain. I met them in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh didn’t I Dafydd – before they died, went to prison or disappeared off the face of the planet.

A couple of weeks ago, someone whose child died at the hands of the paedophiles’ friends was kind enough to thank me for writing this blog and told me that it was probably the most important thing that I’d ever do. This person is a bit hippyish and suggested that I had only survived the attentions of the paedophiles’ friends because the forces of the universe needed me to stay alive to write the story.

It’s nice to be thanked, but I don’t need to be. Writing this blog and exposing every one of them has been an absolute pleasure.

I Want Serious Money Now Please

I switched on the radio earlier but immediately switched it off again, because Gyles Brandreth was on there. I didn’t need to hear him tell the world how brilliant he is or bang on about how he established a Teddy Bear museum, which seems to be mostly what he does during his many appearances on light entertainment shows on TV and radio. Although I am not interested in listening to Brandreth, it did remind me that I need to blog about him, because his former career is relevant to this blog.

Most people know that Brandreth is a former Tory MP, but fewer people know that he was the Tory MP for Chester between 1992-97. In fact Gyles took over the seat from the former MP for Chester Sir Peter Morrison. Regular readers will know that Peter Morrison molested children in care in north Wales. Some of Morrison’s Tory colleagues have admitted that they knew that he was abusing boys and at least one of them has maintained that Thatcher was told about this but she appointed Morrison Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party nonetheless. Brandreth himself is very reluctant to talk about Morrison but has indicated that he knew nothing of Morrison’s activities. How likely is this?

The north Wales paedophile ring was known to extend into Cheshire – even Ronnie Waterhouse admitted that in the Waterhouse Report. John Allen, who owned the Bryn Alyn Community and trafficked the boys in his ‘care’ to brothels in London and Brighton and is currently in prison after being convicted of abusing children in north Wales, owned a children’s home in Cheshire as well. A witness at the Waterhouse Inquiry talked about being taken to a big house near Chester where he was molested. By the time that Brandreth had been elected for Chester, allegations of terrible child abuse in north Wales and Cheshire had recently appeared in the London based media. Brandreth was an author, journalist and broadcaster. His wife was a writer and publisher.  They will not have missed the stories about the paedophile ring in north Wales and Cheshire.

Brandreth will have no doubt heard the stories from other sources as well. Although Brandreth didn’t stand for election until 1992, he is on record as having said that he had always wanted a political career. He was President of the Oxford Union in 1970 and his contemporaries there were Ann Widdecombe and Edwina Currie, who by 1992 had both worked closely with the people who had concealed the activities of the paedophile ring. Brandreth has spoken publicly about the good friendship that he enjoyed with Widdecombe at Oxford. He is a gregarious man who remained friendly with many people active in the Conservative Party – I’m sure that something will have been said to him, particularly when it got around that he was standing for Chester.

Of course, whilst Gyles was MP for Chester, John Jillings and his team conducted their inquiry into the north Wales paedophile ring and then in 1996 all hell broke out when it was announced that the Jillings Report would never be made available because the contents were so incendiary that Clwyd County Council’s insurers’ legal advisors had threatened to withdraw insurance cover if the contents of the Report were made available, even to members of the Council (see post ‘It’s A Piece Of Cake…’). There had also been a police investigation into child abuse in the region and in 1996 William Hague announced that Sir Ronald Waterhouse would be holding a public inquiry into the matter. Just as Brandreth got elected, five people with connections to the north Wales child abuse scandal were killed in an arson attack (see post ‘The Silence of the Welsh Lambs’).

Brandreth never heard any of this discussed????

Perhaps after he was elected, Gyles simply never rubbed noses with anyone who might have known Peter Morrison or who knew about the concerns over his activities? Unlikely – one thing that Brandreth did successfully do whilst he was MP for Chester was campaign for University status for Chester College. Chester were most grateful and in Dec 2016 appointed Brandreth Chancellor of the University of Chester. Campaigning for your local college to acquire University status involves a lot of hobnobbing with precisely the sort of people whose hair will have been standing on end in the wake of the rumours swirling regarding the activities of the recently departed MP.

Brandreth served in John Major’s Gov’t as a Whip and as Lord Commissioner in the Treasury. He’ll have been particularly well-briefed as a Whip – they are notorious for digging up dirt on MPs and using it to coerce people. Brandreth was interviewed by Lynn Barber for the ‘Guardian’ in 2005 and he discussed his ‘exciting’ time as a Whip with her. He stated that as a Whip ‘you often have to smooth people, you have to take them aside and say “you know the PM really loves you.” Then with other people you have to say “Do you know what the message from No 10 is? Fuck off. We’ve had enough. Five years ago we advanced you £10,000 – do you remember that? Just remember that, because we need you in the lobby tonight”‘.

So Gyles didn’t spend all his time talking about Teddy Bears and Scrabble and woolly jumpers then. Imagine what this intimidating shit would be saying if he had knowledge of child sexual abuse among colleagues past and present and he wanted them in the lobby. Of course, John Major’s Gov’t was often on very shaky ground which is why they will have often needed a Whip to carry on in the way in which Gyles boasted of.

Elsewhere in the ‘Guardian’ interview Barber states ‘he says…that everything he does…is a performance’. He explains that his work as an after-dinner speaker is lucrative – the money is good ‘though not as good as Cherie’s’. Indeed money seems very important to Brandreth, or more precisely having a great deal of it is. His wife grumbled about him being a backbench MP on £50,000 pa and when he lost his seat she decided that she’d had enough of the penury that comes with a salary of 50k in a household with other sources of income at the same time and told him ‘I want serious money now please’.

Mrs Brandreth got serious money as well. Brandreth boasts that he lost his seat on the Thursday and started work on LBC on the Saturday. Of course since then the bumptious vacuous bastard has never been off the radio and TV, although he never says anything of substance.  Gyles also decided to try his hand at interviewing, his first try being an interview with the Duke of Edinburgh! It brought him into close proximity with the Royals and associated Courtiers, but Gyles wasn’t at all daunted because he had ‘sat on committees with the Prime Minister’. His interview with Phil the Greek was so successful that it led to a five year contract with the ‘Sunday Telegraph’! At this time of course, Amanda Platell was the press manager for Conservative Central Office and was keeping all the crap relating to the paedophile ring and the Waterhouse Inquiry out of the media (see post ‘Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Out Of The Media?’).

Brandreth’s media career really took off after he left Parliament, in the way that the careers of so many of the lawyers who defended the paedophile gang at the Waterhouse Inquiry did after the Waterhouse Report was published (see post ‘This Is What Happened To Nicola, Niclas, Merfyn, Joan and Kathryn’). Was somebody grateful to him for something perhaps? For such a tosser his social occasions really draw in the big names as well. Gyles is President of the Oscar Wilde Society and hosts an annual Oscar Wilde Party – guests have included Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Stephen Fry, Derek Jacobi, Joanna Lumley and Julian Fellowes.

Toadying interviews conducted with Gyles have remarked on how successful his three children are – one is a barrister, one is a journalist and one is a Gov’t economist. Their paths in life probably wouldn’t have been the same if they had been kids in care being molested by Peter Morrison whilst corrupt lawyers on the Chester and Wales Circuit along with powerful figures in the media and Gov’t concealed it all, but if their dad had information about such matters that could have helped them considerably.

These days Brandreth lives in Barnes in south west London and his name appears on a website listing notable people who live in Richmond-Upon-Thames. Barnes was the location of the brothel the Elm Guest House which was staffed by children in care and where high profile people, including Westminster figures, were alleged to have abused them. At least one boy from the children’s homes in north Wales has stated that he was trafficked to the Elm Guest House and in 2015 the ‘Daily Telegraph’ reported allegations that Peter Morrison had raped a 14 year old boy there. There was also a paedophile ring operating in Richmond-Upon-Thames involving children in local authority care. Dr Alice Levinson, one of the Top Doctors from Springfield Hospital who concealed the criminal activities of the Top Doctors in north Wales whilst they facilitated the paedophile ring, now lives in Richmond-Upon-Thames and has a psychotherapy practice there. Although Alice knew that Dr Dafydd Alun Jones was sexually exploiting patients and that I was suicidal because of Dafydd and Dr Tony Francis (Dr X) constantly having me arrested, she recommended that I be referred to forensic services for ‘containment’. Alice consulted Lucille Hughes for evidence of my ‘dangerousness’ – Lucille was named in the Waterhouse Report as knowing that a paedophile ring was operating in the social services whilst Lucille was Director of Gwynedd Social Services but failed to act. Alice might be a neighbour of Gyles’s!

Brandreth has written a book about his time as an MP. I haven’t read it, but I think that I ought to. However I do know that he has prefaced that book with a quote from PM Arthur Balfour: ‘nothing matters very much and very few things matter at all’.

Some things do matter Gyles. Admittedly not Teddy Bears or woolly jumpers or being the world’s best Scrabble player or getting in the Guinness Book of Records for making the longest after-dinner speech or even your wife’s naked greed – but a vicious paedophile ring with a side-line in pornography and drug dealing and connections in Parliament who are framing innocent people who stumble across them matters very much. Particularly when people who have dared give evidence against them keep being found dead.

Gyles – it’s your turn to speak for one minute without hesitation, repetition or deviation on the subject of ‘Organised Crime – How I’ve Become Very Rich By Keeping Quiet About It’.

Someone else who was in need of Serious Money and who certainly got it is a Lord Crickhowell, who features on an item on BBC News Wales today. The item is entitled ‘Cardiff Bay: What Has Thirty Years of Development Achieved?’ and follows on with a few pearls from Lord Crickhowell who ‘hailed the regeneration of the former docklands as a success’ but stressed that to ensure even more success, a ‘more co-ordinated approach’ to further development is needed. Lord Crickhowell certainly knows all about co-ordinated approaches and the ‘success’ of the Cardiff Bay development. Cardiff Bay is lovely, but there is much grief about it in Wales because the benefits of the successful regeneration of Cardiff Bay have not spread to the rest of south Wales yet alone to west, mid or north Wales. Many people in those regions are still living in cardboard box in’t middle of road despite the luxury down in Cardiff Bay. One person who has done very well indeed out of the regeneration of Cardiff Bay though since he co-ordinated the redevelopment there is a man called Lord Crickhowell.

The Welsh blogger Jac O The North has written an excellent account of the raw corruption that was involved in the development of Cardiff Bay. Jac has compiled a ‘factsheet’ with the history and details of the dodgy deals, sleights of hand and conflicts of interest involved which can be downloaded from his blog. I know that ‘factsheets’ are usually laughable documents produced by the NHS or MIND which fail to explain that the ‘medication’ that you have just been prescribed could well kill you, but Jac’s factsheet regarding Corruption Bay is in a league of it’s own. I highly recommend it. I will provide a summary of Jac’s research here – and pose a few questions and possibilities that Jac hasn’t raised, almost certainly because Jac’s research into corruption doesn’t usually involve delving into the wrongdoing of the health and welfare services.

Jac’s factsheet describes ‘how political power and influence was blatantly and systematically abused for almost twenty years so that vast sums of public money could be used for corporate and private gain and how the Welsh establishment and the Welsh media either acquiesced, turned a blind eye or was simply too scared of the culprits to defend the public interest’.

Cardiff Bay is built on the site of the former docklands. When the coal industry ended, the owner of Cardiff docks, Associated British Ports (ABP), was left with an eyesore and a financial liability. ABP was privatised by Thatcher’s Gov’t in 1982/3 whilst Nicholas Edwardes aka Lord Crickhowell was Secretary of State for Wales. Edwardes was the MP for Pembrokeshire and was Secretary of State for Wales between 1979-87. He had extensive shipping interests and through these business contacts and personal links with ABP.

Following the privatisation of the docks, Edwardes spent a few years working to set up a publicly funded body to regenerate the privately owned docklands. This led to the creation of a quango, the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation (CBDC) in 1987. The chair of CBDC was Geoffrey Inkin, a failed Tory candidate and friend of Edwardes. Inkin was also Chairman of the Land Authority for Wales (LAW) which acquired land for development. LAW had the power of no-appeal compulsory purchase, could smooth out difficulties with planning regulations and could get priority treatment from utilities. The key to the commercial success of Cardiff Bay was the £200 million+ barrage across the estuary, which created a lagoon across the ‘unsightly’ mud flats therefore making the Bay more attractive to investors and those buying, leasing or renting land and property from ABP.

Thus ABP had it’s own private quango pouring public money into the company from which ABP would reap profits. Although ‘the largest waterfront regeneration scheme in Europe’ was paid for by public money, ABP still owned the existing buildings and land as well as everything built on it. The amount of public money that was admitted to have been spent on Cardiff Bay was £500 million – there are suspicions that it was actually much more.

In 1987 Edwardes stood down as an MP and in order to receive his share of the bonanza that he’d engineered, he joined ABP as a Director in 1988. In May 1988 Edwardes was also appointed Chairman of the National Rivers Authority (NRA) – that was the body that was adjudicating on the barrage.

Edwardes and Inkins’s influence via the Cardiff and County Club, the Welsh media and other agencies ensured that any Welsh institution or body that might add to the Bay’s prestige or boost ABP’s profits was approached to locate there. The Welsh media uncritically plugged the project.

So Edwardes, the father of the whole scheme, was a Director of the company reaping the benefits and head of the environmental agency that theoretically had the power to sink the whole project.

A Gov’t Bill getting the barrage through Parliament was passed in 1993 and ABP and CBDC effectively became one entity. However it transpired that no-one wanted to rent, lease or buy Crickhowell House, a huge office block on the development. In 1993, the Welsh Office, headed by Secretary of State for Wales David Hunt, took out a 20 year lease at a total cost said to be in excess of £20 million. As Crickhowell House only cost £11 million to build, that resulted in a very healthy profit for ABP-CBDC. The building was allocated to the Welsh Health Service’s Authority, although they never occupied more than about 1/3 of the building.

In the mid-1990s Wales experienced the saga of the Opera House which was proposed for Cardiff Bay. The leading light in this plan was none other than Nicholas Edwardes, in his capacity as a Trustee (or equivalent) of the Welsh National Opera Company. A competition was held to design the Opera House which was won by Zaha Hadid, but it was never built. There was a lot of squabbling over Hadid’s design, but many people also wanted a new rugby stadium for Cardiff. The dosh was coming from the Gov’t in London who wouldn’t fund both and in the end a new rugby stadium proved a much more popular choice, so that went ahead. Edwardes and Inkin tried to get the rugby stadium sited in the Bay, but that plan failed.

After the devolution referendum in 1997, Ron Davies, the new Secretary of State for Wales, started negotiations with the leader of Cardiff Council for Cardiff City Hall, the building earmarked for housing the new National Assembly of Wales. The negotiations broke down – there have been allegations of skulduggery – and nominations for other sites for the National Assembly began. It was decided to locate the National Assembly in Cardiff Bay, in a new building. Blair’s friend Richard Rogers was the architect who had the winning design for the new building – I’d love to know how that happened, Rogers’s claim to fame was designing the Millennium Dome which was a national joke.

At about this time, Grosvenor Waterside Developments became visible – this was the property arm of ABP, used to disguise ABP involvement.

Ron Davies announced that until the new Assembly building was completed, the temporary home for the Assembly would be in Crickhowell House. Rhodri Morgan, at that time a Labour MP, described Crickhowell House as ‘the very embodiment of that corruption-ridden, semi-colonial, Tory past…’ Rhodri was opposed to the barrage and preferred City Hall as the location for the Assembly. Jac wonders whether it was this that caused London to prevent Rhodri from leading the Labour Party in Wales – Blair famously did all he could to prevent Rhodri Morgan becoming First Minister although it backfired on Blair and Rhodri did end up eventually becoming First Minister. Jac speculates that perhaps Blair et al feared that Rhodri would have taken the Assembly to City Hall.

Jac describes powerful influences at work to keep the location of the Assembly in the Bay. He notes that although there had been much Tory sleaze behind this – Edwardes et al were desperate to have a big prestigious building located in the Bay – the incoming New Labour Gov’t showed no sign of exposing or even undoing the sleaze. Jac speculates that Blair’s 1997 administration allowed the scam because the greed of the ABP-CBDC and the cliques and cabals in Cardiff resulted in Welsh political life being sucked into Cardiff – which suited the control freakery of the New Labour Gov’t, who viewed Wales as dangerously red and dangerously insubordinate and it would be easier for London Labour to manage the sheepshaggers if they were reduced to one city. Jac wonders whether Edwardes told the holders of the purse strings in London that the Cardiff Bay project was too far gone to call back and that the project would fail without a prestigious centrepiece to attract investors. If Cardiff Bay failed, London Labour would look as bad as the Tories. Who would benefit? Plaid – whom London Labour and the Tories perceived to be beyond the pale.

Jac supplies details of an HTV ‘Wales this Week’ episode from July 1999. The programme exposed a secret deal involving extending the lease of Crickhowell House and Alun Michael AM who was then First Secretary (First Minister) – Blair’s choice of First Secretary who had been forced upon a Wales that did not want him as First Secretary – denying the deal, but then admitting it. The programme also exposed the lies that were told regarding the cost of the land that was allocated for the Assembly building. Jac believes that the programme was designed to embarrass the Labour Party, as many questions relating to the Tories’ part in the corruption and the cock-ups went unasked. The Chairman of the HTV Group was one Nicholas Edwardes – who, along with the Tories, was not mentioned during the programme.

The Civil Service mandarin who was instrumental in the machinations to locate the Assembly in Cardiff Bay was Rachel Lomax. Lomax left a prestigious job with the World Bank in 1996 to take up her appointment as Permanent Secretary in the Welsh Office. Jac questions the machinations engineered by Lomax and suspects that the ‘official’ version of events is untrue. Lomax was moved to the DSS (DWP) in Feb 1999.

Jac sums up by mentioning that Alun Michael was the MP for Cardiff South and Penarth, that his constituency included Cardiff Bay and that prior to becoming an MP Michael was a Councillor in Cardiff. So he wanted the Assembly in the Bay. Cynog Dafis (Plaid) also supported the location of the Assembly in the Bay, although Dafis’s own constituency in west Wales didn’t benefit from the Cardiff Bay development. Jac notes that the Welsh media were also robustly in support of the Assembly being in the Bay. At one point Rhodri Morgan announced that the building of the new Assembly had been put on hold – in response to this announcement, Grosvenor Waterside sent a letter threatening legal action if building was not commenced. Jac wonders why Rhodri didn’t call their bluff, as the grounds for legal action was shaky and the threatened exposure of what that company had actually done would have soon shut them up – Jac believes that although Edwardes and his Tory friends weren’t at all supportive of devolution, they were desperate for the Assembly to be located in the Bay to ensure that the development was a success.

Jac has researched and published all of this because he is outraged that millions of pounds of public money has made Nicholas Edwardes and his mates very rich through bank-rolling a project that has been of very little benefit to the rest of Wales, much of which is still desperately poor.

Jac’s research re the details of Edwardes’s massive scam cannot be faulted. However, with regard to Jac’s speculation as to why politicians who would have benefited greatly from exposing Edwardes kept quiet – Jac has missed something of major importance that tied Edwardes and the Tories, Blair and co, Rhodri and even Plaid all up together, although they hated each other. That was the paedophile ring in north Wales and the associated cover-up.

As explained in previous posts, Nicholas Edwardes was Secretary of State for Wales during the years covering Mary Wynch’s unlawful arrest and incarceration by the paedophiles’ friends, he was in post when the paedophile ring was running riot and when Alison Taylor first started blowing the whistle on what was going on, he was in post when Geoffrey Dickens was running his campaign to expose the Westminster Paedophile Ring and named Sir Peter Hayman in the House, he was in post when child care staff in north Wales were being convicted in court of serious offences against children yet the Welsh Office was failing to inspect the children’s homes and he was in post when Geoffrey Dickens handed his dossier with details and names of Westminster paedophiles to Home Secretary Leon Brittan – who then ‘lost’ the dossier. He was in post when Margaret Thatcher was told that Sir Peter Morrison was molesting boys. And on a minor note, he was in post when I first made representation about the criminal activities of the paedophiles’ friends as well. Under Edwardes, the Welsh Office concealed the whole lot.

As detailed in previous posts, the cover-up at the Welsh Office continued under successive Secretaries of State for Wales – including David Hunt, who was also named in Jac’s account. Jac mentions the arrival of Rachel Lomax at the Welsh Office in 1996, after her removal from a high-flying job with the World Bank after just a few months. Rachel Lomax was mentioned in my post ‘So Who Was It Exactly Who Appointed The Corrupt Old Bastard?’. She was the Permanent Secretary in the Welsh Office once the Waterhouse Report got underway and she remained there until Ronnie Waterhouse had heard the evidence and discredited the witnesses. Lomax then buggered off when that had all been dealt with, whilst Ronnie set about writing the Report and reassuring everyone that no political figures had been involved in the abuse of children. Lomax was a very big hitter – she had been dragged back from the World Bank, obviously for something important.

Lomax began her career with the Civil Service in 1968 in the Treasury. She was Principal Private Secretary to Nigel Lawson when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer 1985-86. She was Deputy Chief Economic Advisor in the early 1990s. In 1994-95 she was Head of the Economic and Domestic Secretariat at the Cabinet Office. Then she was Vice-President and Chief of Staff to the President of the World Bank.

This was a woman who was part of the Tories’ inner circle and who was completely trusted by them. She got them out of one hell of a tight spot – and not just one that resulted from the development of Corruption Bay. Remember, by the time that Lomax had arrived in the Welsh Office, scores of victims of and witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal had been found dead. There was no danger of Blair’s lot saying a word either, because as explained previously scores of Blair’s buddies in the New Labour Gov’t had been running the London Councils who had sent children in their care to north Wales where they were abused or whose own children’s homes had been infiltrated by paedophiles (see post ‘The London Connection’). Alun Michael was born and went to school in north Wales and had previously been employed as a ‘youth worker’. He was one of the people who signed the Early Day Motion opposing the proposed closure of Garth Angharad, a hospital for ‘mentally ill criminals’ where a number of those who had been victims of the paedophile gang had ended up. Neither were Plaid going to blow the gaffe – Dr Dafydd Alun Jones had been a Plaid candidate and other Plaid politicians, especially in north Wales, were representing constituencies where the paedophile ring was operating in the local social services, who were loudly proclaiming their defence of all things Welsh eg. in Gwynedd. Cynog Dafis had previously participated in some fancy footwork with the Green Party in order to successfully unseat a Lib Dem who signed an Early Day Motion calling for an investigation into the case of Mary Wynch (see post ‘A Few of the Relevant Politicians Re Mary Wynch’s Case’).

The whole lot of them were over a barrel. They must have all begged Lomax to help them out of that mess, not one of them could have exposed Edwardes’s money-making scheme because they’d all helpfully not asked any awkward questions whilst he and his successors at the Welsh Office had covered up a paedophile ring and the associated serious corruption in medicine and the law. As for Rhodri – well when the Jillings Report was withheld he had made furious comments about Welsh politicians not being allowed to know the details of a paedophile ring operating on their own patch. But I suspect that Rhodri knew what would happen if he exposed Edwardes and Corruption Bay – the whole thing would explode and the presence of a gang of murdering paedophiles on Welsh soil would be blamed on the Welsh sheepshaggers in the Assembly. So he went and appointed Brian fucking Gibbons as Health Minister who did his bit by covering up the criminality of the paedophiles’ friends the Top Doctors.

One further point. Edwardes was MP for Pembrokeshire. Long after reports of the paedophile gang in north Wales became public, there was a huge trial in Swansea – of a long-standing paedophile gang in Pembrokeshire.

So what became of the lovely Rachel Lomax, who allowed Nicholas Edwardes to get away with milking the taxpayer of millions and kept the lid on child rapes, prostitution, trafficking and a few murders, as well as institutional corruption in medicine and the law? Well after leaving Wales completely wrecked in the wake of all that, Rachel became Permanent Secretary at the DWP (formerly the DSS). In 2002 she moved to the post of Permanent Secretary at the Dept of Transport, along with her Secretary of State Alistair Darling. She then joined the Bank of England – and left there in 2008, just before the collapse of Lehman Brothers, to ‘pursue other interests’. So unlike her dozy git of a boss Alistair Darling, Lomax knew that she had assisted in crashing the global economy and got the hell out of there. Regarding her ‘other interests’ – in Dec 2008 Lomax became a non-executive director of HSBC holdings and a member of their audit and risk committees and in Dec 2010 she joined BAA (now Heathrow Airport Holdings) as a non-executive director.

So for what should Rachel Lomax stand trial first then? Concealing a massive swindle on the part of a Gov’t Minister, concealing a paedophile gang who killed a number of people or crashing the economy? If you’re reading this Rachel, Inspector Knacker would no doubt like to hear from you.

Doris Karloff – Honest About Her Expenses But Not Much Else

One genre of book that I quite enjoy reading is the political autobiography or biography. A lot of politicians are quite vain and not as bright as they think that they are, so there are often some unintentional revelations in their autobiographies. For example Matthew Parris some years ago wrote about holidaying in Italy with his friends at a place that they termed the ‘villa of shame’, enjoying the company of ‘boys who were always willing’ – Parris wrote this years before journos started circulating lists of names of people suspected of being involved in the Westminster Paedophile Ring to bloggers like me…

On holiday last week I took a stack of theory books – but for light entertainment I also took a copy of Ann Widdecombe’s autobiography, ‘Strictly Ann’. I thought that this might be an interesting read because a few years ago I came across Ann’s website, ‘The Widdyweb’, which fuelled my suspicions that she was quite mad. ‘The Widdyweb’ was a sort of Enid Blyton fantasy land in which Ann talked about her cottage which has lupins all the way up the path and the many cats that she has owned, including one called Mitten. Exploring ‘The Widdyweb’ enabled me to perhaps understand how Widdycombe managed to live on a different planet from the rest of us in which anyone who has the temerity to get divorced should be cast into the outer darkness. I recommended ‘The Widdyweb’ to my former PhD supervisor and he was sufficiently impressed by it’s content to speculate that it might be a spoof. It wasn’t, it was Ann’s own work. (‘The Widdyweb’ has had an overhaul since then and it now features donkeys as well as cats and a lot of photos of Ann herself.) So I expected to delve further into Ann’s fantasy world of lupins and cats called Mitten by reading ‘Strictly Ann’.

I had a surprise. Widdecombe has quite a deceitful streak. She is of course famous for being one of the politicians who was not disgraced in the expenses scandal – I think  that she, Jeremy Corbyn and Frank Field were about the only MPs not claiming for everything possible, but I would have predicted that. I don’t share many of Widdecombe’s views, but I would not expect her to be fiddling her expenses or pilfering in any form. But Ann’s autobiography reveals a degree of low level cunning and hypocrisy that I honestly did not expect to find.

When I have heard Widdecombe contributing to discussions regarding politicians renumeration, she has always been someone who has argued that if politicians aren’t generously paid, ‘talented people’ will not go into politics. (She doesn’t use the same logic when she discusses appropriate salary levels for other public servants.) She very obviously considers herself an ‘able’ and ‘talented’ person. I knew that she was an Oxford graduate, so I presumed – particularly in the face of all this talk about ability and talent – that Widdecombe, like Cameron and a few other leading Tories who consider themselves a cut above the rest of us, had been academically very successful. Not so. Widdecombe was actually rejected by Oxford when she applied as a sixth former, although she made it very clear that she would have given her right arm to get in there. She did her first degree at Birmingham – which was her fifth choice of university. So a few other people said no to Ann as well as Oxford then. However, whilst at Birmingham, she had developed a desperation to enter politics and her preferred way of doing that wasn’t to become active in local government as a councillor, it was to somehow get involved with the Oxford Union – because Ann had got wind that was the route that the big names used. To do that she needed to be studying at Oxford – so she applied again to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at Oxford after she had graduated from Birmingham. Ann’s parents offered to fund the Oxford degree. Ah, the myth of the naturally talented woman who got where she did in life by hard graft begins to unravel – a large quantity of readily available parental dosh played a crucial part at an early stage…

To be fair to her though, there was a lot of hard graft involved as well. Not cleaning toilets, or stacking shelves, or even studying (she ended up with a Third) – the hard graft involved a great deal of toadying, networking and beavering away in the Oxford Union with other aspiring politicians. Ann really loved being part of the Oxford Union, she didn’t see it in terms of a bunch of immature over-privileged tossers playing games at all, she really got down to Business there. She became Secretary of the Oxford Union and was also active in the Federation of Conservative Students (whose later activities became so offensive that Tebbit had to intervene and I think that the organisation was dismantled). In Ann’s words ‘we were fuelled by ambition and a will to carve out success for ourselves’ and she ‘met and talked to a wide range of politicians, broadcasters and academics’. She waxes lyrical about meeting the likes of David Owen (they loved him so much that Dr Death received a ‘huge ovation’) and the place was so packed for Enoch Powell’s burfday that people were forced to sit on the windowsills.

After Oxford, Widdecombe beavered away for many years trying to get into Parliament before she finally succeeded. She landed a mind numbingly boring job after graduation with Unilever, but spent every waking moment planning her future political career. It was all highly strategic and centred around getting to know the right people. She joined the Bow Group because, as with the Oxford Union, she perceived that to be where her version of the beautiful people hung out: ‘I was just one of a very ambitious set of young professionals who yearned to get into Parliament’. Ann mentions that the Bow Group was actually a bit left wing for her liking, but it was where the influential people were….

Despite their dangerous socialist tendencies, Ann made some good mates among the Spartists in the Bow Group. Richard Barber, who interviewed her when she applied to join, became her solicitor and another member, Michael Stern, became her accountant. She began working on papers with the Bow Group with folk like Richard Luce and Edward Leigh. Those readers interested in the rumours swirling regarding the Westminster Paedophile Ring might be interested to note that some of the names being bandied around as suspects were/are members of the Bow Group. Not that Ann Widdecombe’s name has appeared on any of the documents that I’ve been sent.

Ann was also keen on the idea of another Tory organisation where those with influence hang out, the Carlton Club. She had a problem there though, because for years they wouldn’t admit women. (However, as soon as they did relent, Ann joined – she became the first woman to become a full member of the Carlton in 2008 and was the first woman to serve on their General Committee.)

Ann was desperately trying to get onto the candidates list at Conservative Central Office, but for some reason they didn’t seem too impressed with her. She mentions that a Lord Lothian gave her a reference. I presume that this was the father of Michael Ancram – Ann had campaigned for him and acted as his PA when Ancram was trying to get elected himself in the 1974 General Election. Ancram inherited his father’s title in 2004 and is now in the Lords. Ann was obviously quite impressed with the Ancram clan, there is much name dropping of all the aristos that she rubbed noses with when she was working hard to get Michael into Parliament. She states that after she returned from Ancram’s campaign she ‘spent the next 13 years focussed on the House of Commons’.

Despite the best efforts of pere Ancram, Ann continued to have difficulty finding her way onto the candidates list, but she persisted. She was interviewed by Marcus Fox but rejected – he wanted ‘councillors with dirty hands’. She was told by John Lacey, the Central Office Area Agent for the south east, that to be accepted onto the candidates list she needed a record and that ‘there was an absence of professional information’ about her. At one point she was simply given a bollocking and told that the party were getting fed up of smart arses who had joined bodies like the Oxford Union and the Bow Group in order to bag a seat in Parliament.

Ann eventually ended up on something called the deferred list, which seems to have meant that she could apply to be a candidate but that she would receive no help from Conservative Central Office. They certainly meant ‘no help’ as well – people on the deferred list weren’t even informed of forthcoming selections (Ann, I think that Central Office might have been trying to tell you something). Widdecombe had a solution to that though – she ingratiated herself to someone who worked at Central Office and got them to access the info for her.

This is where it became entertaining. Ann’s mole kept an eye open and told her of EVERY seat that arose – and Ann applied for all of them, and boasts of the ‘creativity’ she employed as she made up cock and bull stories regarding her ‘connections’ to the constituency and desperation to represent the folk who lived there. She also took care never to mention her involvement with the Bow Group at interviews, because she believed that the Bow Group was unpopular with constituency parties. Ann may have been very good at identifying people who could assist her up the career ladder but she certainly wasn’t very good at finding out about the constituencies upon whose doors she was hammering. Her research involved a visit to the local library a couple of days before her interview. The depths of Ann’s ignorance and her shameless ruthlessness is particularly evident from her account of being called for interview on Anglesey no less.

Ann travelled all the way up to Anglesey from her base in the south east for the selection. She manages to sum up Anglesey as ‘all sheep and Rio Tinto Zinc’. There are sheep on Anglesey but there are other things as well. What there is not on Anglesey is zinc. There is a place called Parys Mountain where copper was historically mined and there was an industrial plant called Anglesey Aluminium – which was owned by Rio Tinto. Aluminium is nothing to do with zinc, it is a different element with a different position in the Periodic Table. ‘Strictly Ann’ is a book littered with smug comments regarding the perceived ignorance of other people in terms of their lack of knowledge of Latin, Shakespeare and the Bible. Yet Ann does not know the difference between two metals – and she very obviously didn’t bother to find out. At the time that she went for that seat on Anglesey, Anglesey Aluminium was a huge employer, so presumably she would have been after their votes. But she couldn’t even be arsed to find out what they produced. Ann’s confusion probably arose from the history of Rio Tinto who owned Anglesey Aluminium – at some point in the dark ages, Rio Tinto had merged with another company that was involved with zinc. But not on Anglesey. Furthermore I would have thought that the name ‘Anglesey Aluminium’ contained a clue as to what was being produced.

But guess what – the selection panel didn’t care that they had a total ignoramus on their hands. They loved Ann and she loved them! Which is weird, because Widdecombe knew bugger all about Anglesey and obviously didn’t care that she knew bugger all, she doesn’t mention the issue of language which would have been very important on Anglesey, she doesn’t concern herself with the socio-economic problems that plagued the region at that time and she wasn’t even that interested in the sheep. But Anglesey really wanted her, they were biting her arm off. She ‘stayed with an officer of the association so was under scrutiny the whole time and the interview was a rip-roaring success’.

Now one passion of Ann’s that has been a life-long obsession really is her commitment to the anti-abortion cause. It seems to be the only thing that she is indeed committed to – it’s the one thing that she doesn’t lie about or keep under wraps if necessary. It also caused some people to see her as an unsuitable candidate – she was perceived by some to be uncompromising and dogmatic and by others as a one-policy candidate. She devotes much of her autobiography to accounts of her anti-abortion campaigning and the reasons for her strong feelings on this matter and gives details of some very deceitful tactics that she and other anti-abortion campaigners used in their attempts to force legislation regarding this issue through Parliament. I am wondering whether it was Widdecombe’s enthusiasm for outlawing abortion that made her so attractive to Anglesey.

My post ‘The BMA And It’s Ethics’ detailed how a co-ordinated effort by Top Doctors in north Wales made it impossible for women in that region to access NHS abortions until well into the 80s/90s – the region was notorious for this and the Top Doctors crowed about their success in preventing abortions being carried out legally on the NHS in north Wales. Where did the Top Doctors tend to live if they worked in north west Wales? Anglesey. They colonised the area between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris in particular – that area is next to the Menai Strait, it’s very pretty, it’s where the more expensive and luxurious properties are and it’s near the hospitals in Bangor. I am not exaggerating here – that stretch is literally full of Top Doctors, I used to live there myself and huge numbers of the people living in Llanfairpwll/Menai Bridge/Llandegfan/Beaumaris were Top Doctors – or academics. It was always the reason that was given for Ysgol David Hughes in Menai Bridge performing so well academically – numerous children had mums and dads who were university lecturers or doctors. And if the residents of those villages weren’t Top Doctors, they were nurses or NHS managers or people who worked with the Top Doctors. They didn’t tend to live in Gwynedd because it was a bit wet and hilly there and the houses weren’t so grand – their colony was on Anglesey.

Widdecombe will absolutely not have kept her commitment to anti-abortion a secret during that selection. And I bet that the Anglesey Conservative Association contained a few Top Doctors or their associates who sounded the candidates out concerning their stance on abortion as well. They must have thought that Christmas had come when Widdecombe arrived – the Top Doctors of north Wales were getting very angry at the idea that they might be put under pressure to offer terminations and what would be more helpful to them than a local MP who would back them up all the way?

Sadly for Anglesey Conservatives though, it was a dream that was snatched away. Ann dropped them! A seat in Burnley had also come up and of course Ann had applied for that too (totally committed to Burnley as well!) and although Derek Laws, the Welsh Area agent, wanted Ann to withdraw from Burnley because Anglesey were so desperate to snare her, Conservative Central Office insisted that she follow procedure which meant keeping her name in the hat for Burnley and the Burnley election happened first. Anglesey seem to have been particularly miffed about this – Widdecombe’s book mentions that years later by which time she was in Parliament she bumped into someone from Anglesey and they asked her if she regretted letting them down. Ann herself has no regrets – it wasn’t a safe seat! She mentions of course that the candidate who was eventually selected for Anglesey was Keith Best and the seat was ‘lost’ from the Conservatives a few years later. She fails to mention that it was lost because Best was convicted of fraud and ended up in prison.

Ann wasn’t elected in Burnley and her search for a seat continued a while longer. Readers might well be wondering by now how Widdecombe was actually managing to sustain herself in the south east whilst spending so much time campaigning for the Tories, grovelling to influential people and indeed charging off around the UK in hot pursuit of a seat. It transpires that Ann had a very understanding employer. She got fed up of Unilever pretty quickly and took up a job as an administrator at the University of London. She wasn’t just on reception, she actually worked her way up to a very senior role in the University Court dept and ended up being responsible for the financial part of the project that merged the London medical schools ie. the merger between Guys and Tommy’s and University College and Middlesex. Ann Widdecombe will have been party to an awful lot of very interesting information in that role – and if she’d kept certain people happy she would have made some very influential friends. Which Ann seems to have been very good at doing anyway. One person who was very keen to help Ann further her career in the Conservative Party was her boss at London University, Peter Holwell.

Peter Holwell seems to have been a very useful boss to have – he allowed Ann an awful lot of time off to go campaigning (she doesn’t mention any obligation upon her to take this as unpaid leave) and she even mentions that she took her secretary from the University with her campaigning – the secretary played a full on role as well, answering letters, preparing canvassing returns etc. Did the authorities at London University know that two of their staff – a senior administrator and her secretary – were taking weeks off work in order to bag one of them a seat in Parliament? We are talking the 80s here, the Thatcher years, when universities were being berated for their wastefulness, their lack of productivity and were subjected to severe financial cuts.

But Peter Holwell didn’t just give Ann weeks off to fight elections and supply her with a secretary to do this. He seems to have participated in a great deal of subterfuge with Honest Ann. Readers of my vintage will remember that in 1982 the Tories became so vexed about the CND movement – in particular the women’s protests at Greenham – that they established a campaign in opposition to this which certainly had everyone rolling in the aisles: ‘Women and Families for Defence’, led by the dreadful Lady Olga Maitland, who doubled up as a gossip columnist for the Sunday Express. (Olga was as bad as Ann in terms of only bothering to get to know certain people. In one press interview she waxed lyrical about her love of dinner parties, but stressed that she only invited selected people ‘like Edward De Bono and his wife’. I won’t be receiving an invitation then.) Ann was involved with this campaign and was a key figure in running it – during her time at London University. She mentions that Peter Holwell was ‘keenly interested in my political activity and was a sympathiser’ – the preparations for the launch of ‘Women and Families for Defence’ were ‘carried out in secrecy’ and were referred to in London University as ‘the initiative’. Holwell was in on it all and all Ann had to do was ask for time off from the University for ‘the initiative’.

What exactly was going on in the senior ranks of the Court at London University in the 1980s?

Peter Holwell is still alive, although long retired. He’s been a busy bee though. He was listed as a Company Director for:

A.C.A. Ltd; Leeds Castle Foundation; Edge Foundation; Friends of the Courtauld Institute; Samuel Courtauld Trust; Setoncrest Ltd; Law 646 Ltd; Zoo Operations Ltd; Zoo Enterprises Ltd; Whipsnade Wild Animal Park; Zoo Restaurants Ltd.

Some of these organisations are well-known, some seem to be businesses connected to London University and some are frankly opaque and rather suspicious….

But to return to ‘the initiative’ which was so generously supported in complete secrecy by the upper echelons of London University. ‘Women and Families for Defence’ was always presented by the Tories as being a movement led by real women who wore nylons and were called Lady, rather than a bunch of screaming lesbians of doubtful sanity which of course were what made up the ranks of CND. Yet Ann tells us something else – although the initiative was supposedly led by Olga assisted by the likes of Angela Rumbold and Virginia Bottomley, Ann states clearly that it was all ‘initiated’ by a man called Michael Lingens, a Bow Group officer, who needed a ‘women’s group’ to make an ‘even bigger noise’ than the Greenham women. So who was this Michael Lingens who told the ladies what to do?

Michael Lingens was a Councillor in Hammersmith and Fulham 1982-86 and became Chairman of the Bow Group in 1984. These days he is described as a ‘corporate lawyer’. He is a partner in an organisation called CharlesRussellSpeechlys and is described on their website as being a man who ‘advises on corporate and transactional work for public and private companies, primarily in the healthcare sector’. Lingens has ‘worked with a number of the UK’s leading care home operators in recent years’. He is ‘responsible for the firm’s offices in continental Europe and Chairman of the International Committee which co-ordinates the firm’s international activities in general’.

So it sounds rather to me as though Michael Lingens these days is in the business of privatising the NHS. Which is certainly interesting – Ann’s job at London University (when she was actually at work to do it) involved overseeing the reconfiguration of some leading London hospitals/medical schools and in ‘Strictly Ann’, Ann explains that of course she’s committed to the NHS, but years after her adventures with Olga Maitland et al when she became Shadow Secretary for Health ‘a major plank of my policy was to introduce private sector money to the NHS’. Ann enjoyed the miracles of private medicine herself when she suffered a detached retina. She trotted along to Moorfields Hospital and consulted the surgeon Lyndon da Cruz expecting to hear the worst and told him that she did know that ‘lots of people go through life with the sight of only one eye’. She was delighted to be told that ‘but YOU won’t have to’. Ann recalls that ‘they were the most beautiful words I had heard in many years’ and observed ‘how blessed I am to have BUPA cover’. I didn’t realise that BUPA had a spiritual aspect to it, but at least Ann didn’t have to go blind like the rest of us who don’t have BUPA cover are obviously expected to. ‘Strictly Ann’ is full of references to the Good Book and indeed quotes from the Good Book but Ann really is no John Bell.

The corporate lawyer who is gobbling up the NHS is not the only person who assisted Ann, Olga et al with the initiative. They were, explains Ann, ‘egged on’ by Julian Lewis, who had been at Oxford with her. Ann admiringly explains how on one occasion a few years later, Julian ‘actually managed to string pro-defence banners across Whitehall under which CND had to march on it’s route to Trafalgar Square’. Julian helped Ann with her maiden speech when she finally did succeed in getting into Parliament in 1987. The subject of Ann’s maiden speech was Trident.

So who’s Julian? He’s the Tory MP for New Forest East. In 1976 he received secret funding from the far-right organisation the Freedom Association to pose as a Labour Party moderate in an attempt to expose Militant Tendency entryism in the Labour Party. He is described as a ‘leading opponent of CND and other left-wing organisations throughout the 1980s’ and between 1981-85 he was the Research Director of the Coalition of Peace Through Security. In Parliament he actively pursues the retention and renewal of the UK Trident programme. Just to reassure everyone, in Sept 2010 he was appointed as a member of Parliament’s Security and Intelligence Committee.

So that’s who was pulling the strings of Ann and her mates. Funded without anyone’s knowledge by London University, as was Ann’s path into Parliament.

Ann did eventually manage to get elected in 1987, for Maidstone. Once more Peter Holwell did her a favour and allowed her to leave her job at London University without working out her notice. She mentions an early problem arising when she was newly elected – there was an ‘acute cash crisis’ at Maidstone Hospital, which was ‘very new and flagship’ and Honest Ann was called upon to manage the crisis (or perhaps the bad publicity?), which involved a series of discussions with the Health Authority Chair Anne-Marie Nelson, the hospital management, the Top Doctors, the Angels and the Minister Tony Newton. There were obviously very much more serious problems at that hospital than Ann admitted. Maidstone Hospital hit the media in 2007 as a result of a C diff outbreak, attributed to filthy conditions and overcrowding. In total, more than 1,150 patients became infected, 90 were estimated to have died as a result of infection and it was estimated that the infection contributed towards the deaths of another 240 patients. The Chief Exec was described as ‘blameless’ but was sacked nonetheless, with a severance payment of 250k. The Health Secretary at the time, Alan Johnson, intervened and the Dept of Health advised the Trust to withhold more than 2/3 of the payment. The case went to the Court of Appeal, the payment was restored and a judgement was issued that was highly critical of the Trust. Upon publication of the judgement the whole Trust Board resigned. So Ann didn’t manage to sort that little local difficulty out then, despite ‘Strictly Ann’ containing anecdotes about the machinations that she and her colleagues used to ensure that bad news NHS stories didn’t receive high profile coverage.

After all that toadying to actually get into the Commons, Ann very nearly came unstuck in 1992 when there was an attempt to deselect her by some members of her constituency association as a result of her anti-hunting stance. (Is it not ironic that it was this which nearly caused her to come to grief rather than the rest of the insanity and duplicity.) However, fellow anti-abortion campaigner Lib Dem David Alton was so mortified at the idea of Parliament without Doris that he came to her rescue. Alton theorised that to get Ann out of hot water, she needed the support of a high profile hunter and hey presto a letter from the Duke of Norfolk in support of Ann was sent to the constituency association. Ann was really chuffed when she found out that the Duke of Norfolk had written that he wished that he’d had her at his side when he was ‘fighting the Mau Mau’. I’m wondering if Doris has any idea of what was alleged to have happened in the fight against the Mau Mau uprising – the Mau Mau militants were notoriously terrifying and vicious, so the colonial forces did not hold back where retaliation was concerned. Mau Mau were flogged until death, roasted alive, sexually assaulted with a range of objects, set alight after having paraffin poured over them and castrated. Interrogation methods used by the colonial forces included slicing off ears, boring holes in ear-drums and pushing pins into fingernails. One can only wonder in what capacity the Duke of Norfolk imagined that Ann would have proved useful.

The Duke of Norfolk’s letter did the trick and Ann lived to fight another day.

In much the same way that it took Ann a very long time to actually get into Parliament, her progress once she was there was not what she had envisaged. As with the Chukas and the Yvettes and the Tristrams et al that have wrecked the Labour Party, doing a good job for her constituents as a useful backbench MP wasn’t enough for Ann – she knew that she was meant for better things. Like Norman Tebbit, Ann is someone who seethes at the idea that much of an MP’s role has now been ‘reduced’ to that of a ‘glorified social worker’. How they hate it when those sodding constituents keep turning up with their housing problems or their benefit concerns or their complaints about the NHS. As Tebbit used to stress ‘our job is to hold the executive to account’. Well that certainly is part of the job, but Tebs and Doris don’t seem to have worked out that the reason why MPs surgeries are now brimming over with desperate people about to lose the roof over their heads or with no income because their benefits have been stopped or who have nearly been killed at the hands of the NHS and no-one will even respond to their letters, is that since 1979 successive Gov’ts have set about dismantling the infrastructure of the UK and now nothing fucking works. Desperate people have nowhere else to turn but their MPs, particularly when the public services themselves break the law. Parliament is not the Oxford Union Ann, no matter how much that you wish it was. That was you playing with a load of other pretentious spoilt idiots – when you get elected you have things called constituents to answer to.

Although Doris did notice that no-one seemed very enthusiastic about promoting her, she did what she had done previously – she hassled a lot of influential people demanding answers as to why her talents were going unacknowledged. Unbelievably it worked and Doris began to get promoted.

Now one of the early positions that Doris achieved that interests me is that of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State to Tony Newton. Doris describes that this involved a huge amount of work and that as the Parliamentary Under Secretary it was she who did the legwork – including handling all correspondence. Tony Newton was the Minister to whom Alison Taylor wrote in Feb 1988 describing the abuse of children in care in north Wales that was happening – including assaults that she had witnessed herself. Ann Widdecombe will have known about that letter. Furthermore by the time that she wrote to Tony Newton, Alison had already written to Margaret Thatcher. Tony Newton was Health Minister. This was pre-devolution, so the NHS in Wales was the responsibility of Westminster. By the time that Doris was the gofer for Newton, the authorities were aware of my allegations concerning the psychiatric services in north Wales as well.

But Doris also knew somebody who was directly involved in the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal – Peter Morrison, the MP for Chester, whom former Tory MPs now admit was known to be molesting under-aged boys and who was visiting children’s homes in north Wales. Doris mentions Morrison a number of times in her book – Doris knew him as Thatcher’s PPS and repeats a number of times that Morrison was giving Thatcher ‘bad advice’. It is fairly clear now that Thatcher’s administration were covering up what was happening in north Wales, including Peter Morrison’s activities. Ann doesn’t mention that, but she does make reference to another situation which she claims was covered up by everybody from ‘Tony Newton downwards’, that of the serious alcohol problem suffered by Nick Scott. She observes that no-one did him any favours concealing the fact that he was drunk and incapable and she is probably quite right. But I suspect that Doris knew that Tony Newton along with the Welsh Office were covering up something far worse than an alcoholic colleague – and who knows she might well have still been in contact with her old buddies the Top Doctors from Anglesey who had so wanted her as their MP, who were covering up exactly the same thing. By that time Keith Best had been elected for Anglesey – the Keith Best who was so uninterested and unhelpful when I went to see him about the wrongdoing of the Top Doctors. The Keith Best who had a role in the Welsh Office.

After her stint with Tony Newton, Doris was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for David Hunt at the Dept of Employment. The David Hunt who was Secretary of State for Wales – twice – and who covered up the wrongdoing in north Wales as well.

Doris’s autobiography makes it obvious that she was getting pretty pissed off with only being a mere Parliamentary Under Secretary and she was greatly pleased when she finally became a Minister of State in the Home Office. She was memorably Minister for Prisons under Home Secretary Michael Howard who maintained that ‘prison works’, as the prison numbers swelled with dispossessed people who were frequently mentally ill. Or in north Wales had complained about the psychiatric services or of having been molested in children’s homes. Doris waxes lyrical about the features of prisoners – that they are usually illiterate and innumerate, that they often have mental health problems, that they usually come from ‘broken families’. The one thing that she fails to mention is that a disproportionate number have grown up ‘in care’ – but I bet she knew it. Doris was a Minister in the Home Office at the time when Mary Wynch was chewed up and spat out, ruined, by the Home Office (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’).

Doris was sufficiently attached to Tony Newton and David Hunt to mention how ‘upset’ she was when they lost their seats in 1997.

I find it very difficult to believe that Doris, whose whole modus operandi was predicated upon making friends with powerful people and helping ensure that things ran smoothly for them, had not heard an awful lot about the barrel of shite in north Wales that so many of those whom she was hobnobbing with were so deeply involved.

But even after Hunt and Newton had left the Commons, Doris found herself yet again close to someone else who played a major role in covering up the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal – she became Shadow Secretary for Health under William Hague. Whilst the cover-up that was the Waterhouse Inquiry was underway. Doris was a big fan of Hague and her explanation for his disastrous stint as Tory leader was that he simply arrived in that position too early in his career. Even in her account of her support for Hague as leader though there are indications of Doris’s underhand activities. By the time that Hague stood in the leadership race, Doris had of course fallen out with Michael Howard in a very big way and certainly did not want him becoming leader of the party – she did of course launch a very public attack on him in which she notoriously claimed that there was ‘something of the night’ about him and what with that coming from Honest Plain Speaking Ann, it killed off Howard’s 1997 leadership chance. Ann explains in her book how Hague was actually going to support Howard for leader in 1997 until she told James Arbuthnot – the principal Hague supporter – that she was going to launch a major attack on Howard. Hague subsequently reneged on his deal to support Howard. Ann wonders whether Arbuthnot told Hague that he was supporting ‘damaged goods’ – of course she has no idea whether Arbuthnot ever did tell him that, but she remarks that it would have been ‘strange’ if Hague’s ‘first lieutenant would not have told him what he had learned’. Of course it would Doris, that’s why you set the cat among the pigeons…

Doris also had cause to call on the help of yet another person whom I have named on this blog as helping to keep the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal out of the media as much as was possible – Amanda Platell (see post ‘Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Out Of The Media?’). In 1999, by which time Platell had her feet well under the table as Head of Press at Conservative Central Office, Peter Lilley made a speech which compromised one of Doris’s policies. An early draft of Lilley’s speech was leaked by a journalist – a journalist whom it was known was regularly briefed by Doris. Suspicion fell upon Doris and rumours flew – Doris was horrified that she had fallen under suspicion (I’m not sure why, if she was known to be briefing this journo on a regular basis it would seem logical to presume that she’d done so again). Fortunately for Doris, the helpful Amanda held a full investigation using some of her contacts that I mentioned in my previous post about her, two people were identified as being the source of the leak and were sacked. Doris remained – presumably to continue briefing journalists when she found it necessary.

Readers may remember that Doris fancied herself as Tory leader but never actually got that far. What is noticeable in Doris’s book is that she had felt that this was her destination and she takes it as a matter of fact that she’d have been an absolutely brilliant PM. Fortunately for the rest of us it never actually happened. However Doris does spend quite a lot of time telling us all how she would run the world if anyone were ever rash enough to allow her to do so. She claimed to be speaking for a section of society that she termed the ‘Forgotten Decents’. Which is an interesting concept from a woman who admired so many close colleagues who had concealed a paedophile ring. Of course Ann stood down from Parliament in 2010 and although she has made it known that she was miffed not to have been offered a seat in the Lords, her career post-politics has continued. She has become a sort of cabaret act, taking part in Strictly Come Dancing and the like. She devotes quite a bit of space to these activities in her autobiography.

Doris tells us how as part of a project for one TV programme she ‘found a prostitute’ called Collette from Peterborough, who wanted to escape from prostitution ‘but could get no help’. A bit like those teenaged boys in north Wales that your colleague Morrison was molesting then Ann. Ann sadly observes that Collette disappeared with a mobile phone that the TV folk had given her and ‘went off the radar’. Well some of the former residents of the children’s homes were found dead after they’d given evidence about what had happened to them and no-one even gave them a mobile phone to bugger off with.

During the filming of another TV programme, Doris was appalled to encounter a ‘work shy’ man called Mick Philpott who ‘pretended’ to take on a job that Ann had found for him ‘but never reported for duty’. Well if Ann had found him a job as a senior administrator at London University, he wouldn’t have needed to have reported for duty, he could have pissed off around the country with the use of a secretary campaigning for a seat in Parliament. Doris was also deeply traumatised when she discovered that the work shy man had a rather complex domestic set up – he was in a sexual relationship with a number of different partners all at once (just like Marjorie Wallace then) and made reference to him ‘servicing’ them. Doris was appalled at the use of this phrase. I can tell that when Doris worked in London medical schools she was an administrator who didn’t share a tea room with Top Doctors or their minions. Do you know what the absolute bog standard phrase at St George’s was for shagging someone Doris? Servicing them. I heard it every day, among much ribald speculation relating in particular to various Top Doctors who were known to be serving – or being serviced – by numerous casual partners. Indeed one Top Doctor who achieved fame for being serviced by five different men in one weekend now appears in glossy women’s magazines in relation to her campaigning work on FGM. I saw an article featuring her the other day. Unlike Ann, I don’t really mind who services who if it’s non-exploitative and between consenting adults, but the icing on the cake was when I was told that one of the Top Doctors at another medical school in London wasn’t very popular because ‘he has a pony tail and arrives on his motorbike every day’. I remarked that was hardly earth shattering and I was then told ‘yes but the trouble is he has sex with his children, he’s too much’. Yep, they knew that a professor of gynaecology in London was having sex with his children. They didn’t like it, they gossiped about it but not one of them lifted a finger to investigate or stop it. St Georges was a medical school with a labour ward that used to be occasionally visited by social workers and police officers to remove new born babies from the care of women if they had been deemed unsuitable to care for their children. The man who was alleged to be having sex with his children is still on the Medical Register, he is actually still a very big name and is a Professor Emeritus who sits on the Boards of numerous medical charities. But of course St Georges had a Professor of Paediatrics, Oliver Brooke, who in the mid 1980s went to prison for possessing huge quantities of child porn.

Like some of the Top Doctors, Doris has rather inconsistent views where sexuality is concerned. She supported Section 28 because it was ‘about protecting children’. (So that’s why the Tories covered up a paedophile ring then!!) When discussing child sexual abuse she relies on the Margaret Hodge defence of ‘we didn’t know about it in the 70s and 80s’. Yes Doris, we did know about it. Molesting children was considered very unacceptable indeed, even in the 70s and 80s, which is why people went to such lengths to conceal it. The one thing that people didn’t tend to accept in the 70s and 80s was that respectable middle class men with families and allegedly ‘normal’ lives might be involved in such activity – it was very much seen as the preserve of a loner in a flasher’s mac. To illustrate the depths of society’s ignorance regarding paedophilia, Doris mentions that Harriet Harman and Patricia Hewitt who were famously involved with the NCCL when it was affiliated to PIE are now ‘exemplary mothers’. I’m not sure that I see the connection – Harman and Hewitt I am sure would never let their own kids near paedophiles but that did not stop them from doing some stupid things when they worked for the NCCL and then throwing hissy fits in the media when it was exposed many years later. But then Margaret Thatcher would never have let Mark and Carol near a paedophile gang but she ignored one that ran riot in north Wales on her watch because they were only molesting the kids of some sheepshaggers who were in local authority care. The one paedophile whom Doris does have harsh words for is Jimmy Savile – Doris blames the BBC. It wasn’t the BBC who nominated him for a knighthood or invited him to Chequers for Christmas – it was Thatcher. And it wasn’t the BBC who put him in charge of a high security hospital – it was Doris’s colleague Edwina Currie….

Most staggeringly though, one paedophile who Doris has nothing but warm words for is the man who when Doris’s dancing partner Craig Revel Horwood was a teenager took Craig travelling and used him, in Ann’s own words, as ‘rent boy’. This man was a lot older than Craig and Craig’s mother was told a tall story in order to ensure that the travel plans weren’t stopped. Craig told Doris that despite all this, his travelling companion was a nice man. Which he might well have been, but he was also a highly exploitative man who was happy to lie to people in order to have sex with a minor. Doris marvels at Craig’s insights and wishes that the whole world could be as forgiving (which is odd coming from someone who is very keen on the idea of hanging people). She comments that friendship is a marvellous thing. Which I think is a fairly standard line that paedophiles use when approaching young people – and they tell them not to tell their mums what is going on.

So there’s The World According To Widdecombe for you. Doris’s political life has been one of daft simplistic ideas, of telling the plebs what’s good for them, of ludicrous games learnt at the Oxford Union, of ruthlessly fawning to powerful people particularly if they have titles or a great deal of money and of chortling away with her Tory mates whilst making smug comments about socialists. As a paedophile ring ripped through north Wales, leaving a trail of death, destruction and people wrongly imprisoned in it’s wake. Although Doris doesn’t know the difference between aluminium and zinc, she considers herself a multi-talented erudite being and she spends a lot of time turning her nose up at the plebs who haven’t read their Shakespeare. Had Doris been a different sort of electoral candidate for a seat in north Wales, she might well have bothered to become acquainted with some of the literature from the region. One of north Wales’s most famous writers was someone called Kate Roberts. She wrote a book called ‘Feet In Chains’ Doris. Which just about describes the state of those kids in north Wales who were shagged senseless and beaten up in order to provide sexual services for some of your colleagues and were banged up in the North Wales Hospital or Risley Remand Centre if they complained about what was happening. Should any readers think that I might be overdoing it here, I should explain that as well as the people mentioned in this post, in her book Doris also names scores of other political chums whom she has hung out with and who helped her along her way. FIVE of those names appear on the list of names that I have been sent by a journalist as being suspected members of the Westminster Paedophile Ring.

Doris has now retired to Dartmoor with a load of cats. But the damage that this rather dim woman inflicted because she thought that she was Prime Minister material remains.

Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Out Of The Media?

I resorted to purchasing a copy of the ‘Times’ this morning, although I loathe encouraging Murdoch by doing this. I splashed out however because in today’s ‘Times’ magazine, Theresa May’s former press office manager Katie Perrior has written a tell-all piece about the chaos reigning at Number 10 as a result of May’s reliance on her two notorious Chiefs of Staff, Fiona Hill and Nick Timothy. Perrior’s revelations confirm what I have long suspected about May – that she’s not that bright, not that confident and relies on vacuous twats to advise her, which is how she ended up doing things like wittering on about her kitten heels and posing in a pair of not very nice overly expensive trousers which allowed her opponents to comment on the gulf between her lifestyle and that experienced by the rest of the nation. I was interested to watch this phenomenon damage May so badly because it is of course what all female politicians have subjected themselves to ever since the manufacture of Margaret Thatcher. Idiots like Hazel Blears purchased handbags costing hundreds of pounds and described such bags as ‘aspirational’ rather than ‘over-priced’ and politicians like Nicola Sturgeon and Leanne Wood have very obviously spent a lot more time taking advice on their hairstyles, shoes, the precise length of their skirts and the style of those boring little Young Margaret Thatcher jackets that are de rigueur for female politicians than they ever have reading economic or political theory. That’s why none of them ever make any intelligent comments about gender, health policy, social inequality, economic policy etc. Compare what comes out of their mouths when they’re busy on their way to smash glass ceilings and show the boys how to do it with what comes out of someone like Yanis Varoufakis and our lot are laughable. It’s not as if there aren’t any good female economists around to advise them as well if they wanted a testicle free zone.

Perrior does indeed drop a few pearls of wisdom whilst giving a resume of her career. Perrior’s career as a spin doctor for the Tories started in 2000 when she was interviewed for a junior role by William Hague’s Press Secretary. Perrior was taken on and describes the asinine tasks that she and her colleagues were given to do. She mentions that they were ‘doing jobs way above our pay grades but there simply wasn’t anyone else to do it’. Interestingly she notes that ‘more than 20’ of these rather air-headed young gofers are now ‘either MPs or lords’. Perrior went onto work for Theresa when she was Transport Secretary and Party Chair, but Perrior then left to join the ITN news department because of the allegedly low pay. She subsequently worked for Channel 4 News and as Press Secretary for David Davis. After that she established ‘The Research Shop’ with Nick Timothy. A Jo Tanner who worked with her is now Head of Press at the British Chamber of Commerce. Following this Perrior worked on Boris’s mayoral campaign with the appalling Lynton Crosby in 2008 for ten months, then on the lame ‘Women2Win’. After the successful Brexit campaign she ‘offered her services’ to Theresa during the leadership race and ended up as Director of Communications at Number 10. She’s now dished the dirt on them.

It is entertaining to have my suspicions about Theresa’s reliance on dipsticks confirmed, but unlike a lot of people I’m not that interested in Fiona Hill or Nick Timothy. It is well-established that they are a pair of shites who have damaged the Tories, but it was fairly clear that they were a liability when Theresa was Home Secretary because they were causing problems them.

The person that I am interested in is the woman who gave Katie her big break, Hague’s Press Secretary when he became Tory leader in 2000. It was Amanda Platell – the right wing hate filled scribbler for the ‘Daily Mail’ who is the ultimate example of the sort of female journo satirised by the ‘Private Eye’ Glenda Slagg column, although Platell has a deeper interest in politics. The ‘Eye’ has described Platell as being ‘one of the killer Bimbos of Fleet Street’. I’m interested in Platell because Hague became Tory leader after he assisted a lot of people out of a very tight spot by organising the whitewash of the organised child abuse in north Wales that was the Waterhouse Inquiry when he was Secretary of State for Wales. I have mentioned many times how Sir Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s aide and MP for Chester, was known to be abusing under-aged boys and was visiting children’s homes in north Wales. It is only relatively recently however that I learned that the kids being abused in Ty’r Felin, the children’s home in Bangor, were being trafficked to London where they were being used to provide sexual services after being introduced to a Tory lobbyist and businessman who was also one of Thatcher’s speechwriters (see post ‘Are You Local?’). This man occupied space in the notorious Dolphin Square apartments in Pimlico and Edwina Currie and William Hague claim to be friends of his.

Platell only met Hague ‘a few months’ before her appointment as his Press Secretary ie. Head of News and Media at Conservative Central Office, but she was described as ‘very much Hague’s appointment’. At the time she was described as being ‘a friend’ of Hague’s new wife Ffion and Ffion was said to be a ‘strong supporter’ of Platell’s appointment. Ffion has featured on this blog before (see post ‘A Few Of The Relevant Politicians Re Mary Wynch’s Case’). She met Hague when she was a senior civil servant in the Welsh Office. The Welsh Office that had concealed the paedophile ring for decades, the Welsh Office that employed a crooked solicitor Andrew Park, who concealed the criminal activities of the two psychiatrists Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), who were associates of Lucille Hughes the Director of Gwynedd Social Services, who colluded with that paedophile ring. So people involved with the cover-up of a vicious paedophile ring, many of whose victims had been found dead in suspicious circumstances, ensured that Amanda Platell was appointed as Press Secretary at Conservative Central Office. The Waterhouse Report was published in 2000. Amanda was Hague’s Press Secretary between 1999-2001. Did Hague think that he might be particularly in need of a good Press Secretary sometime in 2000? In 1999 no-one knew how much of a cover-up Sir Ronald Waterhouse would publish, but they did know that hundreds of former children in care in north Wales had told the Waterhouse Inquiry how they were beaten, flogged, kicked, punched, starved, forced to do unpaid labour, sexually abused by the ‘care’ staff and other visitors, taken to other places where they were sexually abused by people whom they did not know, transferred to other even more abusive institutions if they complained about being abused or ended up in the mental health system. Everybody did know that even if Ronnie turned out to be a star performer, the shit was going to hit the fan when that Report was published and a bit of nifty work with the media would be needed.

Let’s look at why Hague might have thought that Amanda was the right woman for the job.

Amanda is an Aussie, from Perth, who arrived in London in 1985. Her father was a journalist too, on ‘The West Australian’. In London she worked as a freelancer for the ‘Observer’ and the ‘Sunday Express’. She was a member of the start-up team when Eddy Shah launched ‘Today’ in 1986. Murdoch’s News International purchased it in 1987, and as well as hosting Amanda, ‘Today’ employed Alastair Campbell as political editor and his partner Fiona Millar as news editor. Platell left ‘Today’ for a short while to work for Robert Maxwell’s short-lived ‘London Daily News’ but returned to ‘Today’ in 1987 when David Montgomery was deputy editor. In 1993 she became managing editor of the Mirror Group, but moved to the Independent in the same year, first as marketing director and then as managing director.

The allegations concerning dreadful wide scale child abuse in north Wales and a paedophile ring that possibly involved public figures and politicians emerged in the London media in the early 1990s. Amanda could not have missed those stories.

In 1996 Platell was acting editor of the ‘Sunday Mirror’ and was the senior colleague of Alastair Campbell. In 1998 she became acting editor of the ‘Sunday Express’ but was sacked by Rosie Boycott after Amanda published a story about Mandelson’s gay relationship with his Brazilian partner. The publication of this story followed a spat between Platell and Mandelson at the Labour Party conference. So Platell discovered what could happen if one published a story that embarrassed a high profile politician. She’ll also have worked out the power and advantages that one would enjoy if one suppressed such stories.

Following Hague’s lacklustre performance as leader, Platell left her job at Conservative Central Office and in 2002 became a freelancer for the ‘Daily Mail’. Her bile filled column goes under the title of ‘Platell’s People’. Well now the readers of this blog know who ‘Platell’s People’ actually are, let’s look at a few more of these people and their contacts in greater detail.

David Montgomery. Platell seems to have thrived whilst working under Montgomery – she worked with him on ‘Today’ and when he moved to head the Mirror Group in 1994, she became group managing editor with a place on the Board. David Montgomery was originally from Northern Ireland. In 1973 he worked for the ‘Mirror’, then in 1979 the ‘Sun’. Between 1985-1987 he was editor of the ‘News of the Screws’ and Director of News(UK)Ltd, a subsidiary of News International owned by Murdoch’s News Corporation. Between 1987-91 he edited ‘Today’ whilst it was owned by Murdoch. Following the death of Robert Maxwell in 1991, between 1992-1999 Montgomery was Chief Exec of Mirror Group PLC. During his tenure at Mirror Group PLC Montgomery took a stake in the ‘Independent’ and the ‘Independent on Sunday’. It was the ‘Independent On Sunday’ that former senior police officer Gordon Anglesea sued for libel in 1994 after they published allegations that he’d sexually abused boys at Bryn Estyn. For details of some of the puzzling aspects of the trial and the conduct of the judge and the lawyers involved see posts ‘Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Byd’ and ‘Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Byd – A Few Additional Comments’. In 2016 Anglesea was imprisoned after he was convicted of abusing boys at Bryn Estyn.

In 2000 Montgomery founded the Mecom Group, a London-based investment company, specialising in the mergers and acquisitions of newspaper and media companies in Europe. In 2005 they purchased Berliner Verlag – the purchase was made in partnership with an American private equity firm. A number of journalists employed by titles owned by Berliner Verlag were most unhappy at the direction in which they felt that the new owners would take the company.

So Amanda had a Big Mate in Montgomery and both of them were undoubtedly in a position to have received much information relating to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal.

But Montgomery is related to a few interesting folk as well. He married Sophie, the daughter of the 3rd Baron Birdwood. The second wife of Sophie’s grandfather, Lady Jane Birdwood, is politely referred to as a ‘politician’ on the family’s wiki entry. Lady Jane Birdwood was a one-off as a politician, she was famously bonkers in that she was so anti-Semitic and right-wing that she denounced a leader of the National Front as a ‘socialist’, although at one point she was a member of the National Front herself. Presumably she became disillusioned when they moved to the left. She ended up in hot water legally on a number of occasions because of her penchant for distributing race hate literature and maintained that the Jews died in the Holocaust as a result of typhoid. Jane Birdwood was not the only notable relative of Montgomery’s wife. Sophie was the ex-wife of Simon Marquis (Sophie married three times, each time to a peer!), the 3rd Earl of Woolton. Simon’s mother married again to Owen Lloyd George, another British peer and became Countess Lloyd George of Dwyfor (in north Wales). Owen Lloyd George succeeded to the Lords in 1968 and was the Deputy Lieutenant of Dyfed – although he was from a family with their origins in Llanystumdwy, north Wales (he was the grandson of David Lloyd George ie. THE Lloyd George), he did not have a home in Wales until the mid 80s, when he purchased a house in Pembrokeshire. The family were of course a massively influential north Welsh political family and Owen Lloyd George carried the sword at the Investiture of Prince Charles in 1969 at Caernarfon. Owen’s mother was from the McAlpine family.

People familiar with the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal will recognise the name McAlpine. In 2012 Lord Alistair McAlpine was named on ‘Newsnight’ by a former resident of Bryn Estyn, Steve Messham, as having been the man who had sexually abused him whilst Messham was in care at the home. McAlpine denied this and successfully sued a number of people who repeated Messham’s claims, including George Monbiot and Sally Bercow, the wife of John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons. Steve Messham later stated that he’d been mistaken. McAlpine died in 2014 at his house in Italy. I can only presume that like Matthew Parris, the former Tory MP and ‘Times’ journo, McAlpine liked Italy. Parris has a house in Catalonia, but in his autobiography he wrote about holidaying at a place in Italy with his political friends that they named ‘the villa of shame’ – he noted that there were some good parties at the villa with ‘boys’ who were ‘always willing’.

Alistair McAlpine spent a lot of time in Perth, Western Australia during the 60s and 70s. That’s where Amanda Platell came from! He had business interests out there and in quite a big way as well. He was an advisor to Thatcher and raised millions for the Tory party. He raised money from Asil Nadir who featured in my post ‘A Stalker’s Network’. Nadir of course stole millions from his company Polly Peck and later was imprisoned, but not for very long and managed to escape even that for many years by fleeing to Cyprus. McAlpine was on record as saying that the funds that were received from Nadir should be given to Polly Peck’s creditors. McAlpine also cultivated the company of Mohamed Al-Fayed. McAlpine was Chairman of the Conservative Party between 1979-1983 but joined Goldsmith’s Referendum Party in 1996. It is recorded that McAlpine was ‘very critical of the Conservative Party under William Hague’. I don’t know why because I would have thought that everyone had a great deal to thank Hague for, after organising the cover-up by Ronnie Waterhouse. I suspect that some people were so grateful that they even felt like making him leader of the Party.

After McAlpine sued the various people who repeated the claims that he had abused a boy who was in care in north Wales, he kindly donated the damages that he was paid to the BBC charity Children In Need. One of the many who presented Children In Need was Esther Rantzen, who claimed that she did not know that Jimmy Savile was a child abuser and could not remember being contacted by someone who later appeared in the media saying that she had told Esther that Savile was a child abuser. I contacted Esther in the 1980s when she maintained that she was campaigning for better mental healthcare and detailed the abuses happening at the hands of psychiatrists in north Wales – who were also concealing the paedophile ring. Esther didn’t write back and I expect that she’s forgotten about my letter as well. A number of children who had been abused in care claimed to have contacted Esther’s charity Childline but did not receive help. Childline’s first CEO was Valerie Howarth, the former Director of Social Services for Brent – four year old Jasmine Beckford was abused and murdered on her watch. Esther had got to know Valerie because Valerie had trained Esther’s sister when they both worked as social workers for Lambeth Council. Whilst Lambeth Council’s children’s homes were infiltrated by paedophiles.

I’m glad to say that there was one person with a bit of sense associated with Children In Need though and that was Sir Roger Jones, who at one point was Chairman of the charity. Sir Roger had made a point of keeping Jimmy Savile well away from Children In Need whilst he was Chairman because he had heard rumours about Savile’s interest in young children, thought that Savile was deeply unsavoury and was on record as saying that ‘the biggest thing to guard against was paedophiles – they were just like flies around the honey pot’. Before Sir Roger became Chairman, Savile had been involved with Children In Need in 1984, 1987 and 1989. Sir Roger was on the BBC Board of Governors between 1996-2002, so one wonders how the lowdown on Savile had escaped others in the BBC. Such as Esther. Sir Roger was the Governor from Wales. As a good proportion of those kids being abused by organised paedophiles had been trafficked from north Wales, perhaps Sir Roger took a rather more dim view of the activities of Savile and his ilk than the media twats in London who think that they’re the centre of the universe and will do pretty much anything to get what they want, including ignoring the serious abuse of sheepshaggers’ children.

Another one of Platell’s People was Rolf Harris, a friend of Jimmy Savile. Amanda was horrified when Rolf was convicted of sexual assaults on children and got himself imprisoned and she penned an article about her inner turmoil for the ‘Daily Mail’ in July 2014, which ran under the headline ‘My Old Friend Rolf Groomed Me Too’. Amanda was deeply traumatised: ‘It was inconceivable to me that the man I’d come to love and trust as a true friend had been serially assaulting girls for decades’. Amanda explains that she was ‘in denial’, because her and Rolf went back a long way. She blames herself for having being duped by Rolf by having been exposed to him on the TV when she was young. In fact Rolf was so successful at grooming the youthful Amanda over the airwaves all those years ago that as a special treat, Rolf turned up to her 40th birthday party in 1998, whilst ‘this star’ was ‘at the height of his fame’. He drew some cartoons for her and she sat on his knee and this was the beginning of a friendship that lasted for the next 16 years, but ended when she realised that she had been ‘conned by a cunning and manipulative paedophile’.

This is a woman who had worked in a senior capacity for Robert Maxwell, Rupert Murdoch and had been Alastair Campbell’s boss. Furthermore, everyone in their 50s was exposed to a good dose of Rolf if they had watched TV when they were kids. I saw Rolf on his lame TV show when he used to appear with someone dressed up as a Koala calling themselves Coojee Bear – presumably Amanda continues to think that was a real Koala. I had a particularly lethal dose of Rolf because my gran used to buy me a comic called ‘Teddy Bear’ which had a cartoon story featuring Rolf and a Koala in every issue. My friend Brown used to read ‘Teddy Bear’ as well when he was little, so he too was dangerously exposed to Rolf. Now we did not consider ourselves groomed by Rolf and even if we were London media twats and in a position to invite Rolf to our 40th birthday parties I don’t think that we would have bothered. And I certainly wouldn’t have sat on his knee. Because I would have been 40 not 4 and he was a complete idiot anyway.

Amanda  shared further insights with the readers of the ‘Daily Mail’: ‘pathological  offenders…the really clever ones, spend…99% of their time grooming people around them…Was Rolf always truly evil, a psychopathic monster, like Jimmy Savile, who gleefully manipulated all those around him? Looking at the picture of him published this week, posing with Savile on a trip to Broadmoor, the similarities are chillingly apparent. Could Rolf have been as dark, as sick, as twisted as that monster beside him?’

I’ve got an answer for Platell and her People. Rolf and Savile were probably about as dark, as sick and as twisted as the monsters that run the UK media, who failed to report on the activities of very serious criminals with links to public figures, including some in the Houses of Parliament, who were molesting children and even found it worth their while chucking a petrol bomb into a building where some of their victims were holding a party when those victims had finally started to talk about what had happened to them and it looked as though there might be a few prosecutions on the horizon. The very worst of those monsters in the media were personally employed by the politicians who were covering all of this up.

In Nov 2011 the infant who was groomed by Rolf was accused at the Leveson Inquiry by the actor Hugh Grant of performing a ‘hatchet job’ on him in the ‘Daily Mail’. This was a reference to a particularly poisonous article that Platell had written after Hugh Grant’s partner had given birth to their baby. I have read the statement that Grant submitted to the Inquiry and it makes for sober reading. One evening whilst Grant was appearing on ‘Question Time’ discussing the closure of the ‘News Of The World’, Murdoch and press standards, Grant’s partner received an anonymous phone call from someone who said ‘tell Hugh Grant to shut the fuck up’. Grant goes on to explain in his statement how he did not accompany the mother of his baby to hospital when she gave birth because they were trying to avoid a media scrum and he had ‘too many experiences of hospital staff being paid to leak information to the press’.

Yes, the Top Doctors and Angels do that.

Hugh Grant then goes on to state that nonetheless  that there was a leak to the ‘Daily Mail’ regarding the details of his visit the following day to his partner and their baby and the ‘Mail’ had also discovered the assumed name of Grant’s partner which they had used for the hospital booking. The ‘Daily Mail’ repeatedly rang Grant’s PR people in New York for a comment – they had somehow managed to obtain a number that wasn’t publicly known as well. The ‘Mail’ threatened to print the story, but Grant suspects that the reason that they did not was because they had obtained their information unethically and illegally from a hospital source. The ‘Mail’ had also acquired the mobile number of Grant’s partner and rang her on that. A story about the birth then appeared in ‘Us’ magazine in America. The UK tabloids subsequently printed ‘garbled/twisted’ version of the story. Grant’s partner’s home was then besieged by press and photographers, as was his own house. The mother of Grant’s partner was harassed by the press. Neighbours were doorstopped. Grant gives details of the extreme harassment that they all faced from the press, which included one incident of a car being driven at one of them. Grant noted that the ‘reporting’ on behalf of the ‘Daily Mail’ was done by Keith Gladdis, who had previously worked for the ‘News of the Screws’, which was of course closed down after the methods that were being used to obtain personal information about people for stories – including phone hacking – were revealed. It was at this time that Platell’s character assassination of Hugh Grant was published in the ‘Daily Mail’.

All this about London hospitals leaking info, Hugh Grant and Amanda working as the Press Manager for a politician who organised the cover-up of the paedophile ring in Wales brought back a few memories for me. Previous posts have described the grossly unethical conduct that I witnessed whilst I worked in London medical schools and how I now have documentation demonstrating that the psychiatrists who were concealing the paedophile ring in north Wales were in contact with people whom I was working with in London medical schools. I have mentioned how I was bullied out of a job at St George’s Hospital Medical School just at the time that the victims of the paedophile ring in north Wales had started speaking to the media and that a close friend of mine – whose parents knew what had happened to me in north Wales and who worked in the media herself and who wanted to make a documentary about it all – was bullied out of her job at the Royal Television Society at exactly the same time. That was in the spring of 1991. I came across a reference the other day to there having been a big scandal brewing involving a paedophile ring with connections to Westminster but it had ‘all been covered up in 1991’.

One of my more obnoxious colleagues at St George’s who did all that she could to make my life unbearable was a particularly vile and aggressive researcher, who seemed to hold a lot of influence with our supervisor Dr Cathy Wilson. This researcher wasn’t ever one for sensitive behaviour – she shagged one junior doctor in the laboratory – but she certainly had a real downer on me. I never found out what this researcher’s problem with me was, but she slammed doors in my face as I walked into laboratories and offices, she refused to allow me access to laboratory equipment and then told Wilson that I wasn’t doing any work, she never communicated with me in anything other than an angry shout and I understand that she told various people that it was going to be ensured that I ‘went back to Wales’. This woman came from quite a privileged background and used to spend much time name dropping to let the rest of us know how many aristos that she hung out with, but she also spent a lot of time ingratiating herself to luvvies. There was one young male luvvie that she was in hot pursuit of at the time – in 1990 – who was beginning to become very famous but was still based in London. I am pretty sure that it was Hugh Grant. Just before he became – HUGH GRANT????!!!!! I don’t know who exactly encouraged the dreadful Mandy Leigh to treat another researcher in the way that she did but I have a message for her: I was bullied out of that job and subsequently nearly framed for a very serious crime that I did not commit because I had crossed the paths of some Top Doctors who were facilitating a paedophile ring you obnoxious over-privileged sharp elbowed bullying cow. There are now a number of police investigations going on into the activities of the people who were determined to ensure that I ended up outside of polite company and back in the clutches of those who were colluding with organised crime. Would you like to contact whichever police station that you are now in close proximity to and make a statement naming the people who told you to behave in the way that you did?

Amanda Platell ironically suffered at the hands of the Top Doctors herself. In 2012 she penned a column for the ‘Daily Mail’ about the evils of the NHS offering IVF. Amanda reveals that she too had IVF but she Paid For It Herself, which is obviously a rather more worthy thing to do than access it on the NHS. The joke was on Amanda though – Amanda didn’t get pregnant despite handing over many thousands and then found out that in women over 40, IVF and associated interventions have a very low success rate but no-one told her. No Amanda, they won’t have. Because a lot of Top Doctors running IVF clinics are very unscrupulous (see post ‘The BMA And It’s Ethics’) and they see people like you coming a mile off – you have a lot more money than you do scientific knowledge and they will lie to you and milk you dry, whilst conning you that ‘going private’ will buy you something better than the plebs who are treated under the NHS get. Furthermore they know that if they keep their expensive smiles frozen on their faces and carry on lying to you, you’ll even write articles in publications like the ‘Daily Mail’ encouraging other mugs to part with their money as well.

Lest anyone think that I’m being somewhat unsympathetic to Amanda’s fleecing at the hands of the Top Doctors, I’m experiencing compassion fatigue because in a way Amanda brought this upon herself. Because Platell and her People won’t publish anything about one of the worst scandals that a lot of Top Doctors have been involved with – the concealing of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. I know this because before Amanda published poison about Hugh Grant and before she published her tale of woe about ripped off by the Top Doctors, two people with media links told me that the evidence that I had regarding the Top Doctors and the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal was so damning that I ought to go to the London-based media, because the Welsh media would be far too frightened to publish it. They both gave me the contact details of ‘Daily Mail’ journalists. I was very iffy – I didn’t feel that comfortable at the idea of getting into bed with the ‘Daily Mail’ – but I was told that what the Top Doctors were getting up to was so serious that I really should get it out in the public domain in any way that I could. I sent the story to two different ‘Daily Mail’ journos – I didn’t ask for any money. I received an enthusiastic e mail back immediately upon receipt of each e mail. Then a long silence…. never heard another word. Not even when three years ago or so Tom Watson unleashed the hounds of Hades when he went public on allegations that children had been sexually abused by people with links to Westminster. You’re quite right Tom, they had been. But Platell and her People worked for the very politician that covered it all up.

Of course Hague’s successor Theresa has now organised the Independent Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse – which is falling apart at the seams. I notice in today’s ‘Times’ dear old Murdoch has let the world know that the Home Office have now been fined £366,000 by the Treasury for breaching Whitehall rules regarding the salary of the latest Chair for that Inquiry, Professor Alexis Jay. Jay was the ‘choice’ of the current Home Secretary Amber Rudd. Rudd implied that the previous Chair – who has walked out and returned to New Zealand – Judge Lowell Goddard, had been up to no good. However it transpires that Lowell Goddard withdrew because Rudd was trying to force a team of Home Office officials onto her to run the ‘Independent’ Inquiry. Which would have not made it an Independent Inquiry led by Lowell Goddard. The Shirley Oaks Survivors Association, a group of former residents of children’s homes in Lambeth who suffered abuse whilst they were there, walked out of the Inquiry for the same reason. They also stated that Alexis Jay, a former social worker, was turning the Inquiry into a ‘social workers talking shop’. Yes, that’s exactly what she’ll do. Because it is the social work profession that was infiltrated by paedophiles that caused havoc and social work as a profession still has not come to terms with it and will not admit it. And to remain in that profession at any senior level one will just have to have turned a blind eye to some fairly sordid things. So when they are confronted with what went on, social workers start talking about the need to fight stigma and to safeguard children and to make sure that no other child ever suffers and how everyone must feel safe but no-one must be blamed. What they will not do is name the paedophiles or their colleagues who allowed those paedophiles to commit offences against children in care. The Shirley Oaks Survivors Association however have done exactly that on their website. They are still in touch with Lowell Goddard.

The Waterhouse Inquiry whitewashed what went on in north Wales because Hague appointed Ronald Waterhouse, a man who had personal connections with many of the people who actually facilitated the paedophile ring in north Wales, along with a team of lawyers and officials from the Welsh Office who knew what was going on at the time and colluded with it, to run the Inquiry.

I think that it’s about time that I did a bit of research on Amber Rudd and her connections to see if I can work out why she not only had such faith in Alexis Jay, but was prepared to break Whitehall rules in order to appoint her.

Wanted – Dead Or Alive

The Daily Post continues it’s obsession with the psychoactive substances Black Mamba and Spice. The online edition has another huge feature, once more alleging that ‘zombies’ are walking the streets of Wrexham, ie. people who have taken these substances. Crimestoppers is now on the case, offering a reward of £1000 to anyone who grasses up anyone else supplying these substances. A reader of the blog has e mailed me wondering why Crimestoppers are making such a fuss about Black Mamba and Spice but have nothing to say concerning the much more dangerous drugs that Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and CAIS are being paid millions to tackle but clearly aren’t.

Well, Crimestoppers has a very odd history in relation to Dafydd that not many people will know about. As with so many other things, I only found out about it by accident. When Crimestoppers was first established in 1995, they did an awful lot of advertising of themselves on TV and made much of their ‘helping the local community’ credentials. Every evening Crimestoppers would be urging the folk of Wales to report a crime, offering the possibility of a reward. By this time, I and a number of other Hergest Unit patients had heard first hand accounts that Dafydd Alun Jones was plying certain patients with drugs. We’d also heard that he was flogging favourable Court reports to extract people from trouble and I had been told by Mary Wynch that her mother had died in suspicious circumstances in one of Dafydd’s nursing homes but Mary had never been able to prove it because Jones banged her up in Denbigh for a year (please see post ‘Making Legal History – The Mary Wynch Case’). So one of the Hergest patients rang up Crimestoppers and reported Dafydd. He didn’t state that he was a mental health patient and he was an intelligent man with a middle-class accent, so it wasn’t as if someone who sounded like a nutter was on the phone. He related the details of Dafydd’s crimes – or at least those that he knew about – with relevant dates and the names of the various victims of Dafydd and also named a local man whom was one of the substance abusers being ‘looked after’ by Dafydd who also happened to be selling hard drugs to school children in Bangor. After a few weeks, the patient of Dafydd’s was still openly dealing in hard drugs and of course Dafydd was still in business, so the Hergest patient rang Crimestoppers again to ask them why they hadn’t acted on his information. They told him that they’d categorised it as a ‘hoax call’. So the Hergest patient rang Crimestoppers yet again, with more information and stated ‘this is not a hoax call’. Nothing happened and Dafydd’s ‘patients’ continued to flog hard drugs and tell other people how much they liked having Dafydd as a doctor.

Reading about Crimestoppers in the Daily Post prompted me to find out who actually runs Crimestoppers. To my amazement I have discovered that it was founded by, and is still chaired by, Lord Ashcroft, that well-known bigwig with the questionable tax arrangements from the Tory party. The Crimestoppers website provides a glowing profile of Lord Ashcroft and mentions his many books. They have forgotten to mention the book for which he is most well-known – the recent volume written by Isabel Oakeshott that was bankrolled by Ashcroft and designed to give Cameron a kick in the chops, which memorably alleges that whilst at Oxford Cameron put his penis into the mouth of a dead pig, as part of a bizarre initiation rite into a student society. The Crimestoppers website also lists Trustees and advisors – one of which is the dreadful Amanda Platell, writer of venom in right-wing newspapers who is also associated with the Tory party. Scores of the people listed have ‘QPM’ after their name – this stands for ‘Queen’s Police Medal’, something that a lot of police officers of questionable reputations seem to end up with (Elfed Roberts has one). I note that Crimestoppers is run jointly by the police and local ‘county community panels’. If any readers know who was on the ‘community panel’ for Gwynedd in 1995, do let me know…
