R.I.P Julia Grant and Many More…

I listened to the Radio 4 obituaries programme ‘Last Word’ yesterday and they paid tribute to Julia Grant, the trans-activist who was the subject of a series of BBC TV documentaries which charted her gender reassignment during the 1980s and 90s. I only watched one of the documentaries, screened in the 1990s. It was one which contained footage of Julia – who began life as George Roberts – during her consultation some years previously with a Top Doc at Charing Cross, a psychiatrist who was a gender identity specialist. Julia was obliged to see this man before the gender reassignment surgery that she wanted could go ahead. The Top Doc concerned refused to allow his face to be shown on camera or to be identified.

The Top Doc treated Julia dreadfully, absolutely dreadfully. So much so that the crap faced by transgender people gained a great deal of publicity. At one point he snapped at Julia ‘you have stepped out of line and I don’t like people who step out of line’. He subsequently turned down her request for gender realignment surgery. During the consultation Julia was reduced to jelly. She was not highly educated and had no education at all in medicine so was not able to identify the many ways in which the Top Doc breached all good practice and thus she did not say ‘what the fuck do you think that you are doing?’

This was the Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic, supposedly the global leader in that field. We take referrals from across the world! Yes and as far as NHS UK patients went, it was that shitbag whom they had to encounter if they wanted gender reassignment surgery. No other option. You have this bastard or you don’t even get considered for treatment.

The nation however missed something. This Doc was not alone in being a psychiatrist who conducted himself in that manner. Many of them did, including Dr Tony Roberts at the Hergest Unit, until Roberts finally retired not so long ago. Exactly the same bedside manner: rude, insulting, with bizarre notions of what constitutes ‘gender appropriate’ behaviour, deliberately intimidating. The geographical area covered by Tony Roberts had the second highest suicide rate among women in England and Wales, except for Camden. When I complained to the GMC about Roberts in 2002, the GMC did not investigate my complaint. They maintained that Tony Roberts had not done anything inappropriate. Although he had ordered my key worker off of my case – my key worker whom I liked – appointed himself my doctor against my wishes, refused to treat me and then ordered every other Top Doc not to treat me on the grounds that I was ‘his patient’. One night a I rang the GP on-call, who recorded on my file ‘suicidal ++++’ and contacted Roberts. Roberts faxed two words back – ‘DO NOTHING’.

I was not alone in having these experiences with Roberts. As another patient observed, he was ‘another dangerous madman’. Tony Roberts graduated from Manchester University in 1984. He trained with the abusive nutters there who included Dafydd’s old boss Dr Bob Hobson, who ran a sex abuse ring at the Maudsley and then in 1974 relocated to Manchester where he expanded on the ring there (see post ‘The Mentor’). Ian Brockington, Tony Francis’s former boss, also worked at Manchester University, until he joined Dafydd and Francis’s mate Professor Robert Bluglass at the University of Birmingham (see post ‘Ian Brockington’s Mischief’). After learning at their knees, Roberts headed for a job at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh where he joined Dafydd and then Roberts was appointed Clinical Director of the Hergest Unit…

Years later, my lawyers discovered a document in the possession of the GMC purporting to be my letter of complaint about Tony Roberts. It was a forgery. See post ‘The General Medical Council And Yet Another Forged Document’.

Although the Top Doc who treated Julia Grant so appallingly refused to allow himself to be identified at the time of the TV programme, he was later revealed to be John Randell. John Randell was one fun guy, but no-one dared mention anything at the time other than his sadism towards Julia Grant. By the time that Randell’s earlier interview with Julia was broadcast on the programme that I watched, Randell had been dead since 1982. Although the old bastard had been 6 ft under for years, no-one dared say anything ruder about him in public other than that he was old fashioned, showed bigotry towards transgender people and had some rather odd views about women.

John Randell was born in Penarth, Cardiff in 1918. He qualified as a Top Doctor at the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1941. From 1942-46 he was a Surgeon Lieutenant in the RNVR. Randall knew Gwynne the lobotomist , Professor Geoffrey Chamberlain who facilitated the paedophile/trafficking ring at St George’s Hospital Medical School which was linked to Dafydd’s gang and Randell also knew about the Naughtiness In High Places re Lord Louis Mountbatten and the gay spies in the Admiralty, as discussed in my post ‘The Defence Of The Realm’.

After serving in the RNVR, Randell worked at Guy’s, St George’s and Tommy’s Hospitals. All of which were already facilitating the organised abuse upon which Dafydd et al expanded into a pan-European ring in the 1970s. In 1950 Randell was appointed Physician for Psychological Medicine at Charing Cross. There he worked with Lennox Broster who had been treating intersex people since the 1930s, but not transsexuals as such.

Lennox Ross Broster (1889 – 12 April 1965) was a South African-born surgeon who spent most of his career at Charing Cross. Broster was educated in Grahamstown, first at St Andrew’s College, then at Rhodes University College. Broster received a Rhodes Scholarship and began studying medicine at Trinity College, Oxford. He continued his medical training at Guy’s Hospital, qualifying as a Top Doc from there. Broster served with the RAMC during WW I. After WW I, Broster specialised in the treatment of endocrine disease. In the 1930s and 1940s Broster was among the first surgeons to operate routinely on intersex patients, in work that received frequent coverage in the British press and helped to establish Charing Cross Hospital as a centre for intersex and transgender medicine. His patients during this period included the Olympic athlete Mark Weston.

Broster held junior surgical positions at a number of hospitals, including at the Radcliffe Infirmary and at Guy’s Hospital. He also worked at the Queen’s Hospital for Children. During this period Broster became associated with Charing Cross, where he would remain for the rest of his career. A history of Charing Cross published in 1967 stated that Broster had been “one of the outstanding surgeons” there. Although employed as a general surgeon, Broster took a special interest in endocrinology. Simultaneously with his work at Charing Cross, Broster also served as a consultant to several other hospitals – the Bute Hospital in Luton, Chesham Cottage Hospital, Dunstable Hospital, Beckenham Hospital – and to the Church Army.

In the 1930s and 1940s Broster provided surgical and hormonal treatment to intersex patients, in collaboration with the psychiatrist Clifford Allen. This attracted considerable press attention to Broster and Charing Cross during the 1930s. A 1938 story in the News of the Screws described Broster as “the famous surgeon, who has brought new hope and happiness into the baffled lives of many men and women who were desirous of changing their sex”. Although journalists often described the treatment as sex changing, the patients they wrote about would more accurately be described as intersex and there is no evidence that Broster operated on transsexuals.

Broster gave lecture tours of the United States and Canada in 1936 and 1937. Broster gave lectures to the American Surgical Association in 1941 and he became an honorary fellow of the Association in 1942. In 1948 the South African Medical Association invited Broster to lecture in South Africa and in 1950 he was a visiting Professor at Cairo University. Broster was Chairman of the Court of examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and also acted as an examiner for the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds.

Broster represented the South African branches of the BMA on the BMA’s Council, 1938-45/46, when the independent Medical Association of South Africa was established. Broster was also involved with the BMA’s Section of Surgery, serving as an honorary Secretary in 1929 and a Vice-President in 1950.

In 1950 Broster became Chairman of the Commonwealth Medical Advisory Bureau’s Committee of Management. In 1952 he became Chair of a Committee, set up jointly by the Royal Society of Medicine’s Section of Endocrinology and the Society for Endocrinology, which had the task of considering how British research in endocrinology could be encouraged. He was elected an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in 1958.

Broster was a strong supporter of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Broster was an enthusiastic Rugby player as a student and a Top Doctor  and served as President of the United Hospitals Rugby Football Club. Like all the best Top Doctors, Broster played golf and retained an interest in sports contests between Oxford and other universities.

Broster suffered a stroke after retiring, when about to sit down at Lord’s Cricket Ground to watch a match. He made a partial recovery but later died on 12 April 1965.

Working as a high profile general surgeon in Oxford at the time that he did will have meant that Broster knew and almost certainly taught Sir Charles Evans, the surgeon who served as Principal of UNCW, 1958 -84. Sir Charles trained at Oxford and spent his very early career in surgery there. See previous posts.

Lennox Broster and his wife Edith had three daughters. Their eldest daughter Cynthia also became a physician and finished her career as Principal Medical Officer for the Oxfordshire Area Health Authority. So Cynthia knew about the organised abuse of kids in care in Oxfordshire with which social work manager Barbara Kahan and her child psych husband Dr Vladimir Kahan colluded. Babs was appointed a children’s social work adviser to Keith Joseph when he was Heath’s Secretary of State at the DHSS and Babs remained advising Gov’ts for years. See post eg. ‘Always On The Side Of The Children’. Oxford University’s Dept of Psychiatry has also been complicit with the abuse of kids and vulnerable adults, as well as being party to cancer research fraud funded by the Cancer Research Campaign. See previous posts…

Cynthia married the neurologist Charles Phillips in 1942. When Charles was called up for military service in the same year, Lennox provided a recommendation that led to Charles’s appointment to the RAMC.

Charles Phillips died in September 1994 and as ever the Royal College of Physicians ‘Lives of the Fellows’ online provided an obituary:

Charles Garrett Phillips b.13 October 1916 d.9 September 1994
BA Oxon(1938) BSc(1939) BM BCh(1942) MRCP(1944) DM(1951) FRCP(1962) FRS(1963) Hon DSc Monash (1971)

As a neurologist who studied at Oxford and then soon after returned to work there, Phillips too will have known Sir Charles Evans. Phillips was only two years older than Evans…

Charles Garrett Phillips had a major impact on experimental and clinical neurology, recording from pyramidal neurons in the cortex and contributing to our understanding of central motor control. In his monographs and in many of his papers Phillips successfully demonstrated the relevance of animal data, intelligently adduced, for the management of motor disorders in man.

This sounds rather as though Charles worked in the area of primates in cages with things stuck into their heads.

Beauty is pain: Cosmetic animal testing and cruelty-free ...

Phillips’ formidable analytical intelligence was evident at an early stage, and perhaps best demonstrated in his Ferrier lecture and in two monographs. In his 1968 Royal Society Ferrier lecture Phillips explained how the brain was involved in the servo control of the muscles of the hand in primates.

I thought as much.

Secondly, with his main collaborator in the 1960s, Bob Porter, Phillips wrote a book entitled ‘Cortico spinal neurones: their role in movement ‘(London, Academic Press). Published in 1977, the monograph is a seamless synthesis of electrophysiological and micro anatomical studies in which Phillips and Porter refer frequently to the work of their contemporaries as well as historical pioneers. Phillips’ second monograph on ‘Movements of the hand’ (Liverpool University Press, 1985), based on his 1982 Sherrington lecture, was the acme of his scientific thought and writings. He described in detail the inputs and outputs of the cortical modules which resemble the “integrated circuits in electronics terminology”. He particularly emphasized the importance of inputs from the muscle afferents which he had already highlighted in his Ferrier lecture, and moved easily from the micro to the macro by explaining the circuitry for programmed motor patterns in the central nervous system.

Charles Garret Phillips was the son of George Ramsey Phillips, anaesthetist to St Mary’s Hospital, and Flora Phillips. He was educated at Bradfield College, Magdalen College, Oxford, and at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

The Bart’s which by the 1970s was facilitating organised abuse which could be traced back at least to the presence of Dafydd’s pal Lady Juliet Bingley working as a medical almoner at Bart’s after she qualified at the LSE in the early 1950s. Lady Juliet’s dad Reginald Vick spent most of his career as a surgeon at Bart’s. See previous posts.

At Oxford he took a first in animal physiology. After medical qualification he spent three years in the RAMC as a neurologist during which time he took the MRCP. After the war Phillips returned to Oxford, where he became a fellow of Trinity College in 1946, a university lecturer, reader and subsequently appointed to a personal chair in neurophysiology in 1966. He was a secretary of the Physiological Society between 1960 and 1966. In 1975 he was elected to Dr Lee’s chair of anatomy at Oxford and retired in 1983.

In spite of the high status he had achieved Charles remained remarkably modest. It was this modesty and a degree of uncertainty, together with the wish not to be constrained by commitments to outside funding bodies, which prevented him from applying for a research grant.

That is the best excuse that I have ever heard for not bothering to apply for research funding.

However, it must also be admitted that the generous ‘class grant’ which the University bestowed on the physiology laboratory made an application for outside funds unnecessary.

That explains Charles suddenly being overcome by modesty.

The realization that the University’s generosity was not uniformly distributed in South Parks Road proved to be one of three culture shocks which stunned Phillips when he took up the chair of anatomy. In contrast to the situation in the physiology laboratory, Phillips found that virtually all research depended upon outside grant funding.

Charles was astounded that the manna from heaven did not continue.

The two other shocks in store for Charles were, first, the conflict between staff which was generated by the five years of uncertainty which followed Geoffrey Harris’ untimely death in 1971,

This sounds interesting, I will dig a bit deeper when I have time.

Geoffrey Wingfield Harris was educated first at Dulwich College (1927-1931) and then at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1932-1939). He began clinical training at St. Mary’s Hospital, London (1936-1940), worked briefly at Hillingdon County Hospital (1939) and then worked at Cambridge as the Demonstrator in Anatomy (1940-1947), Lecturer in Anatomy (1947-1948) and also Lecturer in Physiology (1947-1952). From 1952-1962 Harris was Senior Lecturer in Physiology, University of London and worked in the Laboratory of Experimental Neuroendocrinology at the Maudsley. Dafydd ‘trained’ at the Maudsley in the early 1960s at the knee of Bob Hobson the trafficker and the wider collection of dishonest incompetents whom were abusing their patients in numerous ways. See posts ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’ and ‘The Discovery Of A Whole New Galaxy…’  In 1953 Harris was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. In 1962 he moved to Hertford College, Oxford, becoming Dr. Lee’s Professor of Anatomy, a post he held until his death in 1971.

Beauty is pain: Cosmetic animal testing and cruelty-free ...

and, secondly, the fact that the teaching of topographical anatomy had not changed since Phillips was a student. Charles Phillips’ appointment allayed the uncertainty of the interregnum that followed the death of Harris and this, together with his gentle but firm democratic leadership, soon restored civilized relations between the staff.

Translate as ‘Phillips imposed a regime and ruled over dissenters with a rod of iron’.

But he was not so successful in revising the teaching of topographical anatomy. Charles placed greater emphasis on ‘functional’ anatomy, including the introduction of transcutaneous stimulation of muscles. But, it was clear to all that Phillips’ appointment was an interim measure. He will not be remembered as an anatomist, nor would this have been his wish.

This rather sounds as though Phillips wasn’t much good at anatomy and that someone would remind the world of this if ever anyone did remember him as an anatomist.

During his years in human anatomy Phillips also served as editor of ‘Brain’ and on the Medical Research Council, tasks which he took very seriously.

Even though his anatomy wasn’t up to much.

As editor he was proud of the fact that he did not reject papers: rather he urged respect for the work of others even though this sometimes involved major revision of the text or additional experiments to bring the manuscript up to scratch.

Everything accepted, even crap. The journal must have been very short of contributions because journal editors love rejecting papers and stressing that not any old shite gets in this journal.

Charles Phillips was a quick witted and articulate speaker and a gifted conversationalist. To dine with him at a dinner of the Physiological Society was always an immensely rich and pleasurable experience. Indeed Charles endeavoured to make each encounter with colleagues and friends an intellectual occasion using his gentle but penetrating wit and judiciously crafted turn of phrase to set the ambience.

Charles would have put Libby Purves in the shade. Please someone, take Arthur Mullard along to a Physiological Society dinner, secrete a camera about one’s person and film the occasion.

Research for Phillips came to an abrupt end when he transferred to human anatomy and retirement, when it came in 1983, was complete.

His services were dispensed with at the earliest opportunity.

This contrasted quite markedly with the lifestyle of some of his close colleagues who were equally or more active in research after retirement. But it was characteristic of Charles to follow life in a precise and orderly sequence. He also confided that experimentation through the night, which recording from cortical neurons demanded, had become too great a strain. However, it seemed to the observer that Charles was in fact quite content in that he had by the age of 58 completed the task he had set out to accomplish.

58 yrs old is very early for a scientist to pack up work. They usually cling on for decades after retirement at 60 or 65, pursuing the research that they enjoy without being bothered by the onerous admin duties imposed on them before retirement.

It is a tragic irony that the end for a man of his powerful and acute intellect was accompanied by severe mental deterioration.

I wonder what happened…

He married Cynthia, herself a physician, in 1942 and they had two daughters.

The psychiatrist who worked with Broster at Charing Cross and established that institution as the world leader in gender identity work, Clifford Allen, made a sharp distinction between intersexuality and transvestism (the term then in use for what is now described as being transgender) which Allen saw as a psychological pathology not requiring surgical intervention. In 1954 Allen wrote: ‘the abnormal minds should be treated in order to conform them with the normal body and not vice versa’.

I can’t find much about Clifford Allen online, although David Andrew Griffith’s article in ‘Sexualities’, Jan 2018, ‘Diagnosing sex: Intersex surgery and ‘sex change’ in Britain 1930–1955’ does discuss Clifford Allen:

Clifford Allen… the consultant psychiatrist at Charing Cross, the Physician in Charge of the Psychiatric Department of the Seamen’s Hospital, Greenwich, and the Assistant Physician to the Institute of Medical Psychology at the Tavistock Clinic in Bloomsbury.

Previous posts have discussed the Tavi during those years and some of the Top Docs there who were facilitating abuse, including those with links to north Wales.

Broster and Allen shared the view that atypical biology could lead to atypical psychology; if adrenal glands were thought to masculinize the biological, then they would be expected to influence sex roles, aims and object choice as well.  For both Broster and Allen, biological normality was structured into a binary of male and female bodies, and linked to a strict psychological normality, as measured by heterosexuality….

Broster largely saw adults, particularly at the start of his research, although he saw an increasing number of younger and pre-pubescent cases just prior to the interruption of his work caused by the Second World War…

In 1940, Clifford Allen argued that treatments should be strictly divided between psychotherapeutic treatment for individuals who do not have an identifiable atypical anatomy and surgical intervention for individuals who do (Allen, 1940). Broster had the authority to decide or deny physical treatments, or to refer to Allen, who had the authority to decide or deny psychological treatments. In Allen’s chapter of The Adrenal Cortex and Intersexuality, he described a case study of a woman who ‘wants to be a man’ so that she could marry her girlfriend. No physical abnormality was found, so Allen offered psychotherapy to address her (in his view) homosexuality, which she refused (Broster et al., 1938: 106–107). Despite the agency that Broster narrated in his case studies, medicine seems to have remained the authority and conveyer of legitimacy for individuals who did not conform to biological or psychological norms of sex.

Broster’s 1944 book, Endocrine Man, sharpens the distinction between individuals with what the medical profession defined as physical or psychological abnormalities. He was very clear that in both cases, treatment of some kind should be pursued, to obtain as close a state to ‘normal’ as possible:

When their troubles are due to natural causes their plight is pitiable. Society in general is not a respecter of persons, is suspicious, and indeed often hostile to these abnormals. This attitude should be rightly reserved for the decadent imitators and propagandists of these perverted states, who form a festering sore in our midst. (Broster, 1944: 95)

Broster and Allen were Top Docs who were knowingly working with colleagues who were facilitating abuse. As was John Randell.

Clifford Allen certainly came up with an interesting invention outside of the field of gender identity. During the 1960s, the presence of Caribbean Angels in British hospitals was so visible that it inspired Allen to diagnose a medical condition, Heterochromophilia: ‘the compulsion in human beings to choose a mate of a different colour’. Allen published a letter in the British Journal of Psychiatry in 1968 which claimed that Heterochromophilia stemmed from a newborn’s identification with the first face it laid eyes on when it emerged from the birth canal. ‘It seems to be that the condition is rare and not of great importance,’ Allen wrote.  ‘But since we are getting more coloured women nursing white babies these days there is a likelihood of this becoming much more common’.

Those white babies will clap eyes on a big black face and a lifelong taste for mating with negroes will be established.

It would however be preferable to seeing this as soon as one is born, or indeed at any point during one’s life:

Dr Dafydd Alun Jones

I was exposed to dangerous levels of Enid Blyton as a child and I had a copy of the later notorious Three Golliwogs book which contained the line about a big black face at the window. When I was a student, I had a friend who hadn’t been exposed to Enid Blyton and I told him that the three gollies were called Golly, Nigger and Wog. He suggested that Blyton should have written in a fourth golly, Bleck Bestard. Thatch and Denis had investments in South African businesses at the time of this conversation, but their only reason for refusing to impose sanctions on South Africa was the suffering that sanctions would inflict on the people living in the townships. In South Africa as well as in Gwynedd.

His brother John Ennals was Chairman of the Anti-Apartheid Movement, 1968-76. Lord Ennals’ other brother Martin was the DG of Amnesty International. Jeremy Thorpe was an Anti-Apartheid Campaigner. They all colluded with Dafydd’s gang, as did many more more at the forefront of the Anti-Apartheid Movement. If any of them had gone public on the crimes of Thatcher’s friends Peter Morrison and Jimmy Savile, Thatcher’s Gov’t – one of the few props which the South African Gov’t had during the 1980s –  would have been brought down. But none of them did. They and their network instead worked very hard at contributing to the effort to ensure that I and others were never heard re Dafydd. See previous posts for further info about those who were so distressed at what was happening in South Africa that they assisted the gang who supplied kids to Thatch’s friends for sex.

At the end of the 1950s John Randell wrote a paper on 50 transvestites and transsexuals that he had worked with. In his 1960 MD thesis ‘Cross Dressing and the Desire To Change Sex’ (University of Wales), Randell discussed 61 male to female and 16 female to male cases. This was one of the first higher degree theses on transsexuality. The Expert was born.

During the 1960s Randell was seeing 50 cases a year, which rose to nearly 200 in the 1970s. And every one of them will have been treated like dirt.

They did For The Poor! It’s what they dreamed of!

By Randell’s own figures, he saw 2438 patients (1768 male to female, 670 female to male). He also spent half his time with general psychiatric patients. Told you so. This man was let loose on people whom he was able to detain for years in psychiatric hospitals or recommend for transfer to a high security institution, forcibly inject with drugs which could result in lifelong debilitating ‘side effects’ or of course kill the patient, forcibly impose ECT on the patient or lobotomise them against their wishes. Or he could simply refuse to treat desperately ill patients who were unable to look after themselves. In the event of ordering such ‘treatment’, or indeed witholding lifesaving treatment, Randell’s manners, attitude or rapport with his patients will not have been any better than they were with Julia Grant.

In 1969, Randell’s name was mentioned several times in press reports about the First International Symposium on Gender Identity and he testified at the Corbett vs Corbett trial that he ‘considered that the respondent (ie April Ashley) is properly classified as a male homosexual transsexualist’, which contributed to the legal problems of transsexuals and intersex persons in the UK for the next 35 years.

April Ashley is an English model and restaurant hostess. She was outed as a transgender woman by ‘The Sunday People’ in 1961 and is one of the earliest British people known to have had gender reassignment surgery. April Ashley was constantly told how vile she was by people who then asked her to have sex with them.

Corbett vs Corbett was the case concerned with April Ashley’s divorce. Randell appeared for Arthur Corbett who was petitioning for his marriage to April Ashley to be annulled on the grounds that she was a man. Eeh, he’s a raving male homosexual transsexualist. It’s been diagnosed.

Readers might recognise the name of the person who wrote the foreword to the book, Prof Desmond Curran. Dessie has featured in previous posts (eg.’Meet The Gwerin!’). Dessie was the daddy of the paedophiles/people traffickers of St George’s, Dessie having founded their esteemed Dept of Psychiatry, to which abusers flocked once Dessie set up shop. It was Dessie who ‘treated’ Norman Scott many years before Norman became headline news after Norman had a breakdown as a result of the harassment and intimidation from Mr Thrope and his friends. Norman ended up in the hands of Dessie because Dessie was an Expert on Sexual Perversion, rather than an Expert on criminals in public life who have shagged both Ma’am Darling and Lord Snowdon, who subsequently marry Miriam, the ex-wife of Lilibet’s cousin and try to have their former non-Royal partners murdered. The diagnosis was that Norman was a worm, a liar, a vagabond, a loathsome spotted reptile and a man, or woman, who chews pillows for kicks and that Mr Thrope was one of the most intelligent, prettiest politicians who could have, had he wanted, become Prime Minister Of This Country Or President Of The World…

Peter Cook's biased judge sketch and its background - YouTube

Mr Justice Cocklecarrot: ‘And now you must retire, as must I’. Which indeed he did.

Harold Wilson’s good friend the crooked solicitor Lord Arnold Goodman was the first to come to Mr Thrope’s aid:

Lord Goodman was a big mate of Nye’s widow Jennie Lee and Harold Wilson gave them the flagship project of the Open University to play with. By the time that Mr Thrope appeared at Minehead Magistrates Court for the committal hearing in Nov 1978, Sir David Napley was representing him. Napley turned up at Minehead in his Roller, just to show the magistrates who was boss.

George Carman QC the bent barrister, who had known about Dafydd and the gang and the Westminster Paedophile Ring for years, made his reputation by defending Mr Thrope at his subsequent Old Bailey trial in 1979.

Killer Carman hosted two junior barristers in his Chambers who became famous:
  • The Secret Diary of Cherie Booth, QC (aged 53 and a half ...

Norman, the only man at Mr Thrope’s Old Bailey trial who told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth:

Now that Norman has been declared to be a Gay Icon at a film stars ceremony, I’m thinking of campaigning for him to become Head Of State. I don’t know if Norman would want to do this, he might prefer to remain in Devon with his horses, but Norman would undoubtedly do a far better job of Leading The Country than the gang of lying criminals who tried to kill him.

I note that on the cover of Randell’s book Dessie is described as the Chancellor’s Medical Visitor. The Chancellor in this context is the Lord Chancellor, rather than the Chancellor of, for example, UCNW, which for the many years that Dafydd’g gang operated in UCNW was Carlo. The Medical Visitor is an expert accepted by the judiciary as being eminent in his field. So the Lord Chancellor accepted Dessie, the foundation stone of a sex abuse ring, as a Medical Visitor. That doesn’t surprise me after the research that I’ve done over the past two years. That edition of Randell’s book was published in 1976 – the book was originally published in 1973 –  by which time business for Dafydd’s gang was booming and as previous posts have made clear, the crimes of the gang and related gangs such as the one that Dessie founded in south London, were being concealed at the highest levels of Gov’t. I’m not sure when Dessie attained the status of the Lord Chancellor’s Medical Visitor, it could have been an honour conferred upon him years previously, but the Lord Chancellor 1974-79 was Lord Elwyn-Jones.

The Lord Elwyn-Jones

My post ‘Lest We Forget’ discussed how for many years, Elwyn Jones, a crooked Welsh layer, was one of the principal links between London and Wales in Dafydd’s ring.

1976 was the momentous year in which panic gripped the paedophiles and their friends. In Jan 1976, Norman was prosecuted for a minor social security fraud which was linked to Mr Thrope’s harassment and intimidation of him and the story was finally reported in the press. In March 1976, Andrew Newton, who alleged that he had been hired to kill Norman, appeared at Exeter Crown Court, was convicted of firearms offences and subsequently imprisoned. Norman appeared as a prosecution witness and explained what had been going on. It was becoming clear that Mr Thrope could well find himself charged with a serious criminal offence, which indeed he subsequently was.

The gwerin at UCNW began tearing each other’s throats out in 1976 (see previous posts) and a new Chancellor of the University of Wales – who’s constituent colleges included UCNW – was appointed, Carlo. Dai Francis, a Communist ex-miner who had led the south Wales branch of the NUM during the miner’s strike which brought down Heath’s Gov’t also stood for election as Chancellor, but no-one was going to risk appointing Dai at a time like that. Dai was the father of Dr Hywel Francis, the Labour MP for Aberavon, 2001-15. Hywel Francis was succeeded in the seat by Windbag Jr. See previous posts…

Harold Wilson suddenly resigned as PM on 5 April 1976 and there has been speculation ever since that he knew that he had Alzheimers or ooh he was a KGB spy and was about to be outed… No, the reason was that Harold knew that things re the Westminster Paedophile Ring could unravel quite rapidly and he either jumped or was pushed by the security services. He was only pushed so far, Wilson remained in Parliament for many more years…

  • He’s popped in for a curry on the way home and is ringing the wife with his lame excuses as to his delay.

  • Pussy Galore’s fed up that he hasn’t Told His Wife About Them yet.
  • Pussy Galore by Honor Blackman.jpg

So in true Paedophiles In Distress style, in 1976, an Expert who was Of The Gang published a book which advertised the credentials of the Expert who knew all about the loathsome spotted reptile who also happened to be a prosecution witness and could well be again in the near future but in a rather bigger case…

Norman, I am touched that the tactics employed to deal with you were very similar to those employed to deal with me! Hilarious, I begin a career in cancer research and suddenly Tony Francis’s mate begins a career in cancer research, funded by the Cancer Research Campaign, just like I was and he even worked with people linked to the team of which I was a member. Only Peter Mcguire et al participated in a massive research fraud which ended in the suicide of one of their colleagues… Brown and I show an interest in publishing about the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and suddenly ooh look everyone, Dafydd’s friends have published on the history of Denbigh, ooh you can’t believe Brown and Baker, YUK, READ US, READ US, DON’T LISTEN TO THEM ANYONE, SHE’S MAD… Brown starts up a journal about Arts In Health and suddenly the Top Doctors are all Experts in Arts and Health.

Oh they are a fucking joke aren’t they Norman. Brown shares his salary out with his friends who have been shafted by those bastards and makes do with three pairs of trousers and a few T shirty things and the troughing bastards continue to demand more and more and more, while stealing Brown’s ideas because they just cannot do it themselves.

After the Corbett vs Corbett trial in 1969, which did transgender people no good at all, Randell was the Expert sought out by the media and appeared on the occasional radio programs. In 1980 the ‘News of the Screws’ claimed that Randell and his surgeon, Peter Phillip, had made London the ‘sex-change capital of the world’. It will have been for people who were prepared to stuff Randell and Phillip’s mouths with gold, there’s always room for more gold in a Top Doc’s mouth even after many years of Nye’s largesse. Randell had not actually been in favour of surgery until his patients who had had surgery abroad returned with positive evaluations. Randell spotted the gold mine and knew that if he didn’t start offering surgery as well, Top Docs overseas would be mining the rich seam that was waiting to be exploited… Even in the 1960s less than 10% of Randell’s patients managed to achieve surgery and only a third of the male to females had vaginoplasty. In the 1970s when numbers increased, still only 15% of patients achieved surgery.

The irony is that during the recorded consultation with Julia, in her desperation to get help, Julia asked Randell if the process could be accelerated if she became a private patient. The old bastard snapped ‘no, my opinion cannot be bought’. Oh yes it can and it was, but not by Julia.

When I was unlawfully refused all NHS care by the CEO of the NW Wales NHS Trust, I wrote to the then Welsh Gov’t Health Minister Edwina Hart and asked to be therefore provided with access to alternative care. Edwina wrote back and said that she would not access any type of private care for me and she had done as much as she could. Well, she had confronted the CEO and Chairman of the Trust, but they ignored her, refused to investigate my complaint or provide the NHS care to which I was legally entitled, so Edwina backed off. I had given her enough evidence to have both of them arrested. The Welsh Gov’t is now commissioning the private sector to treat thousands of patients because the NHS just has not done it. The Top Docs in Wales are also now deliberately keeping their waiting lists so long that desperate patients in severe pain are being forced to pay for private treatment. This is what happens when Gov’ts pander to criminals…

Drop a bomb on them someone.

With regard to transgender patients, I’m not at all sure that the sort of surgery that people were begging Randell for is a good idea, but there isn’t the scope in this post to expand on precisely why. Can I just note that one of my main reservations is that I have known for years that distressed vulnerable patients end up in the hands of Randell and people like him, who cannot be trusted further than one can spit a rat and who simply are not the people to advise on complex gender identity problems? I do understand that people feeling uncomfortable with their gender can feel absolutely desperate, but this lot are really not going to help, even these days. Hamfisted liars and conmen who really are best avoided…

In 1990 Dafydd tried to persuade a 19 yr old patient at Ysbyty Gwynedd to undergo gender reassignment surgery because he was gay. Dr Sadie Francis was later appointed as a gender identity specialist for Gwynedd, although she had no experience in this area. In the late 1980s, Sadie was appointed as a consultant psychiatrist although she was not, by GMC regulations, permitted to hold a consultant’s post, having not followed the appropriate career path. The GMC knew that a fiddle had been carried out and colluded with it. For many years the gender identity specialist in north Wales was Dr Kenny Midence, a clin psy who is a long standing member of Dafydd’s gang and has co-authored with gang members. Comments online regarding Midence’s service – he has a big private practice – suggest that if one hands the dosh over to Kenny, he’ll write the referral for gender reassignment surgery. It probably makes the patients leaving Midence’s office feel a lot better than those who left Randell’s did, but the ‘all comers welcome in return for dosh’ approach could prove disastrous a few years down the line if someone regrets their decision.

When Randell realised that the customers and their money were going elsewhere, he began arguing that surgery could be appropriate and that psychotherapy did not work. Even then Randell restricted surgery to ‘sane, intelligent, single and passable individuals’. ‘Passable’ meaning conforming to Randell’s rather 1950s ideas of being ‘ladylike’…. Dafydd once yelled at me that I was not a ‘normal woman’. Of course I wasn’t, I had a brain and I took the piss out of him.

Randell must have been a bit like one of the men in the Monty Python ‘Nudge Nudge’ sketch, in which Having Sex With A Lady is discussed. ‘Photographs ay he asked him knowingly’. Yeh, the child porn that was being produced in north Wales by Dafydd’s gang, or Dafydd’s mate Prof Linford Rees’s photos of Bathing Beauties (see post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’).

Lest anyone wade in with analyses of Randell’s idiocy being a consequence of him being in possession of testicles, let me tell you that I know Lady Doctors and Angels who’s ideas are every bit as laughable. One Lady Doctor told a friend of mine that many Lady Doctors think that ‘periods are horrible old fashioned things which we could well do without’; an Angel I know told female psych patients that they should always shave their armpits – similar advice was dispensed by ‘Jackie’ magazine in 1976; a Top Doc stated in front of female Angels that he could tell when his Lady Patients were well because they wore dresses; one of the much nicer Lady Doctors at Springfield Hospital always wore dresses to work ‘because a lot of my young female patients have problems with their femininity, so I always wear a dress to show them that I’m proud to be a woman’. I can see the idea behind that and this Lady Doctor wasn’t a vicious bitch like her colleagues, but she did know that some of her colleagues were sexually abusing their patients which might be why so many of the patients were in such distress. The nicer Lady Doctor wearing a dress wasn’t going to be sufficient to address that…

I could supply readers with many more laffs, the point that I am making is that the Top Docs and co are frequently as thick as yak shit and narrow minded with it and of course in north Wales and other areas they were preparing their patients for the sex trade. There are also many Top Docs and their colleagues with serious problems themselves in terms of body image, eating disorders etc and in in abusive relationships. Then there are the swathes on anti-depressants or who have alcohol problems… Dysfunction is everywhere among them and often their children.

Until the end of his life, Randall continued to refer to patients, including post-operatives, by the pronouns of their birth gender and would tell a male to female accepted for surgery that ‘you’ll always be a man’. This won’t have reflected any clinical position of Randell’s, it’ll just have been Randell trying to be as offensive as possible. The general psychiatry patients will have been asked to discuss their anxieties and then the info will have been used to cause them as much distress as possible. Marjorie Dawes is far more realistic than people who are not Empowered Service Users ever realise.

Most patients described Randell as brusque, rude and cold. However the model Tula aka Bond girl Caroline Cossey found him to be ‘absolutely charming’. Tula equated to Randell’s idea of what a woman was. Esther claimed that Sir Nicholas Fairbairn was absolutely charming and he was a child molesting, wife-beating drunk. See previous posts. If one wants to achieve stardom, one is obliged to say that foul people are absolutely charming.

Randell is the doctor who told Christopher Wilson, the author of Dancing With The Devil: The Windsors and Jimmy Donahue, that Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, had Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. This rumour was doing the rounds, but one needs to ask how would Randell have known and if he did know for certain, what was he doing breaching confidentiality? The Royals are not immune from being kicked in the chops by the Top Docs, when I worked at St George’s, 1989-91, the gynae records of a member of the Royal Family were being passed around and were the source of much ribaldry and moralising. I suspect that this person had been smeared by the Top Docs for the same reason that Wallis Simpson was, but I am saying no more lest the target is identified.

Other patients of Randell’s included Rachel Padman, the physicist and Alice Purnell, the activist.

Purnell as a boy was sexually and physically abused at prep school by the Headmaster who was later convicted. Purnell worked as a research chemist and volunteer with the Samaritans. In 1965 Purnell, with Sylvia Carter, founded the Beaumont Society for transvestites. Initially there were almost as many overseas members as in the UK, with some in Malaysia, Kenya and other parts of the Commonwealth. Alice became the overseas contact person because of her French. Regional contacts were appointed but were often the only member in their region. Purnell was offered surgery by John Randell in 1966, but turned it down and married a woman instead, going on to have a family with her.

Alice was on Radio 4 with agony aunt Claire Raynor. Raynor knew about Top Doctors facilitating abuse, including Dafydd et al, many years ago. She kept quiet because she wanted a media career as Claire Rayner. See previous posts. Alice attended the TV/TS conferences at Leeds University in 1974, and Leicester University in 1975 – the latter was organized by the Beaumont Society. Leeds and Leicester were both host to paedophile/trafficking gangs directly linked to Dafydd’s gang. Also in 1975, Alice was a co-founder of the Beaumont Trust, a registered charity, which separately from the Beaumont Society, set up a helpline and published educational booklets on transgender topics. In 1976 Alice became Vice-President of the Beaumont Society, and President a year later.

In 1977, Alice trained as a nurse, specializing in geriatric services. She then worked as such for 26 years, at one time becoming a matron, including nursing support for transgender surgery.

She finally had surgery in 1982 after the dissolution of her marriage and remained President of the Beaumont Society until 1984. Alice joined HBIGDA (now WPATH) and attended its European meetings. She found that they were dominated by US concerns and that the Standards of Care were mainly to protect the surgeons and that the emphasis was on psychiatry rather than on psychology/counselling. Alice organized the first of the GENDYS conferences which was held at Manchester University in 1990, a conference which brought together each type of professional who deals with trans persons and each type of trans person. There were a further seven GENDYS conferences.

After obtaining a Masters degree in counselling and psychology, Alice co-founded the Gender Trust. It was a registered charity intended to help transgender rather than transvestite persons. Alice has lived most of her life in Sussex, the location of Dafydd’s partner gang as well as the brothels to which John Allen trafficked kids in care from north Wales.

Alice Purnell was awarded an OBE in the 2012 New Years Honours List, ‘for services to Transgender People’.  Alice Purnell contributed “Why does transexuality exist?” and “TV, TG, TS – What’s in a label?” in Michael Trevor Haslam’s volume Transvestism: A Guide. Beaumont Trust, 1993. Michael Haslam was one of the psychiatrists who starred in the Kerr-Haslam scandal. Haslam and his colleague William Kerr were Top Docs based in Yorkshire who raped and assaulted their female patients over decades under the guise of ‘sex therapy’. Numerous complaints were made about them by patients and a la Dafydd, their activities were openly discussed. An Angel who raised concerns was demoted and a Professor at Leeds who complained about them was told to shut it or he’d lose his job. There was no investigation until the 1990s when Kerr and Haslam were approaching retirement. Only one of them was imprisoned and not for very long. See post ‘All The Ingredients Of A Scandal’. One woman patient who had been assaulted by them was told that she would not be allowed to amend the records that they compiled about her. When the scandal finally hit the media, representatives of MIND who had ignored my complaints about those we know and love in north Wales appeared on prime time TV declaring that they were shocked and disgusted.

John Randell died of a heart attack in 1982. Just as Mary Wynch’s litigation against Dafydd and the gang began to move in the direction of the Master of the Rolls…

I don’t know whether the offensive John Randell of Charing Cross had offspring who became Top Docs as so many Top Docs do, but there is a Dr John Randall who was/is the Clinical Lead for the Blackburn with Darwen NHS Clinical Commissioning Group. His surname is Randall rather than Randell, but one look at Dr Randall’s biography tells us that he will know about the ring in the north west of England which was facilitated by Dafydd’s mates:

Dr Randall, MB ChB, MRCGPDRCOG, DipOccMED, qualified from Manchester University in 1988. He completed his hospital vocational training in Blackburn before becoming a GP in his current practice, in 1992; he is GP Principal at Oakenhurst Medical Practice in Barbara Castle Health Centre. Prior to the CCG forming in 2013, Dr Randall was a lead GP in Cardio Vascular Health for Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust from 2002 until 2008.  As well as working in Occupational Medicine in various Lancashire industries, he was elected by his colleagues to the Local Medical Committee in 2011 and subsequently Vice Chair in 2012. He is a passionate advocate in emphasising the true value of family medicine. Dr Randall is married with three teenage children.  His interests outside of medicine include Manchester City FC, exploring the Highlands of Scotland and long distance running.

John Randell the offensive git from Charing Cross is all over the internet on trans websites; I note that he was linked with many of those we know and love who have starred on this blog before, particularly the lunatic Cardiff University contingent such as Dr Roy Mottram, who was a leading light in the Beaumont Society, along with Alice Purnell. See previous posts. The medical students at Cardiff in the 1980s knew that Mottram et al were bonkers and to be avoided and by the time that they were junior doctors they knew about Dafydd’s gang, about George Thomas, the lot. Those who didn’t want to be forced out of medicine and have their lives destroyed kept quiet about all of it. Those docs are now in their late 50s/early 60s and occupy roles as Professors and leaders of the profession. The gang rape of children and murders of witnesses. They knew about it.

After the offensive git from Charing Cross blocked Julia Grant’s surgery, Julia found another surgeon who Helped, Dr Michael Royle. After her gender reassignment surgery, Julia subsequently haemorrhaged, collapsed and nearly died. She was taken to hospital and was accused of having performed an abortion on herself. The Top Docs didn’t even realise that Julia didn’t have a uterus in which to gestate a foetus to abort, but had in fact undergone reassignment surgery which had gone horribly wrong. Julia believed that the Top Docs didn’t understand what had happened because in those days gender reassignment was so rare. No, they were either grossly incompetent or they knew that Julia had crossed the path of the Fuhrer in Charing Cross so like Brown and I, Julia was on the blacklist and competent healthcare would never be forthcoming. I have not read anything that suggests that Dr Michael Royle, the surgeon who nearly killed Julia and left her with lifelong disabilities, was ever the focus of an investigation.

When the documentary about Julia Grant that I watched was screened, I was in the throes of Empowered Service Userdom and was regularly being arrested by Dafydd’s gang on the grounds of their perjury. I watched the documentary with Patient F and we discussed how Julia’s life had been wrecked by the Top Docs. A few days later we discussed the programme with Ella Fisk, the Angel who ran the day centre at the Hergest Unit. Ella told us that she was incensed by Randell’s treatment of his patient and that when she was young, she had known a lot of Top Docs like that, but now things were very different. Ella knew about Dafydd and the gang. She knew that at the very time that she had that discussion with me, that I had no idea that Tony Francis had for years being forging documents and evidence about my alleged ‘dangerousness’, that he was still doing this and that Francis and Dafydd had collected ‘evidence’ from numerous third parties, even from people with links to the gang who knew me in Somerset when I was a teenager, which was being accumulated to justify my incarceration in a secure hospital.

Ella didn’t conduct herself like they did, I liked Ella, but she knew what they were doing and did not raise any concerns. I suspect that Ella was terrified of them. But the security services knew what they were doing as well and they didn’t stop them either.

There is a lot of info about the Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic and it’s history online; it is fascinating stuff and I could be blogging about that alone for several posts, so I’ll just make a few brief observations here. People involved with the Charing Cross GIC were also involved with the Albany Trust, which has at times conducted out research in support of paedophilia. The Albany Trust received Home Office funding when Leon Brittan was Home Secretary.

Rachael Webb underwent gender reassignment surgery as a result of a referral from Charing Cross. I encountered Rachael Webb when I worked at Bangor University. After Brown and I had appeared in the media discussing the parlous state of the mental health services, Rachael began e mailing me. That was fine by me, we received communication from a few people who had been treated appallingly but who’s complaints had got nowhere and one couple were in hiding after having received threats. However it became clear that Rachael’s reason for contacting me wasn’t to support an improved deal for the targets of those we know and love. Rachael asked Brown and I to act as expert witnesses to help her to get her HGV licence back after she had lost it as the result of a drink driving conviction. I explained that we were sociologists, we were in no position to act as expert medical witnesses. She suggested that we should just lie. I said no. So Rachael offered to pay us to lie. I said no and Rachael told me that it was OK to lie as an expert witness, a Top Doctor had done it before for her… He was probably called Dafydd.

John Randell’s partner in crime, Peter Phillip, who performed the surgery on those whom Randell deemed suitable on the basis that they had the characteristics of Real Women and wore nylons, girdles, ran a duster over the shelves daily and couldn’t do science, was a urologist. Virtually all trace of Peter Phillip has been eliminated from the internet. North Wales however has its very own Peter Phillip, in terms of a urologist who was enthusiastic about gender reassignment surgery. I am talking about Dr Chris aka Christine Evans, a local celeb in Denbighshire. Dr Chris is a retired surgeon who worked at the lethal Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, but like Dafydd, Dr Chris continued working after retirement and used this to protect Dafydd’s gang. Dr Chris also served as a Councillor for Prestatyn and was a mover and shaker behind ‘The Raven’, a community pub. Dr Chris helpfully wrote a blog in her capacity as a Councillor, in which she explained that she would ensure that the jobs of her surgeon colleagues at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd would be protected now that they were under threat. Were these surgeons local heroes, dedicated to their patients? No. They were grossly incompetent, had killed a few too many people and openly boasted that they were running the ‘service’ for their convenience, not for that of the patients. They were so bad that even the Royal College of Surgeons wrote a report condemning them and saying that the situation could not be allowed to continue. Call Dr Chris!

The surgeons of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd had disgraced themselves to such a degree that no-one would listen to the word of a surgeon from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, so Dr Chris couldn’t wield influence in that way. Dr Chris hit on a better ruse. Dr Chris doubled up as a Patients’ Champ and got her mates to appoint her to the post of Leader of the North Wales Community Health Council, the Patients’ Voice and Watchdog. It wasn’t difficult for Dr Chris to do this, because the CHC appointments are not in the gift of a democratic vote on the part of any group of patients, they are instead the responsibility of the Welsh Gov’t and County Councils. Dr Chris wasn’t the only Top Doc on the CHC; there was a GP from Anglesey as well as Dr Sadie Francis. Other CHC members included Councillors and their relatives or other NHS staff and their friends and relatives. More recently, Eleanor Burnham, a former Lib Dem AM who was a social work manager and member of the Mental Health Tribunal for the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, arrived on the CHC after poor old Dr Chris resigned in the wake of revelations re her agenda. See previous posts…

When Dr Chris was the Patients’ Voice, the CHC simply refused to investigate complaints about the mental health services, as well as many other matters. Dr Chris had to attend the Betsi Board meetings in her capacity as the Patients’ Champ, so Dr Chris would turn up for the meeting, stay for the first 15 minutes during which time she would Give Her Orders and then would walk out, leaving everyone else to remain for the rest of the 2 hour (or longer) meeting.

I studied Dr Chris and I noticed that she was of the variety of Lady Surgeon who was so butch that she certainly wouldn’t pass John Randall’s Femininity Test. Dr Chris, being a urologist, was well-known for operating on men’s bits and she would use her status in this regard to intimidate men. All men, not just men upon whom she had operated. This is a known technique of Lady Doctors like Dr Chris; Dr Chris had a reputation among women patients of being a crude old bag who was not to be taken seriously, but men are less likely to take the piss out of the Dr Chris’s of the earth. It’s OK men, we did it for you! Dr fucking Chris had no idea of the hilarity that she elicited, which was how I was able to gather so much info on her and publicise why she had led a Military Coup at the CHC.

Dr Chris was a friend of Tony Francis.

Dr Chris enjoyed photo opportunities and during her Brave Battle to defend the jobs of the mates of a gang of paedophiles who were maiming and killing their patients. Dr Chris had her photo taken with Wales’s most famous transgender person and indeed one of the most well-known trans people in the world, the travel writer Jan Morris. When Jan was James, she was part of the 1953 Everest expedition team, along with Sir Charles Evans, the Principal of UNCW for so many years… Jan and her son Twm Morys, another well-known Welsh writer, were generous in their praise of Dr Chris. Jan used to be a posh English man from Oxford but he reinvented himself as a Welsh woman of the proletariat. Jan’s son Twm spent his early years in Oxford, then went to Shrewsbury School, but he too is now a patriotic Welshman. I have no objection to this, of course it’s great when people who migrate to Wales love the country and Jan and Twm are both talented writers, but they have certainly provided much good PR for some very unpleasant people. See previous posts…

Jan Morris was one of John Randell’s patients in the early 1960s. Randell did offer Jan surgery but she could only have surgery in the UK if she divorced her wife, which, to Jan’s credit, she refused to do. So Jan went to Casablanca and had surgery there. Jan’s book ‘Conundrum’ provided an account of it. Jan has not suffered at the hands of John Randell, Dr Chris et al in the way that so many others have, because Jan is posh, she has money and is a famous writer. So the Top Docs who butcher and abuse the proles use Jan for a bit of free publicity when anyone dares challenge them.

The security services knew that John Randell was a dangerous doctor who was part of a network facilitating serious organised crime. No-one stopped him. Hundreds of vulnerable, desperate patients continued to be sent into his jaws, as well as into the jaws of his mates.

So why did you let it happen then MI5? It wasn’t just me, I was just one who happened to survive. Where were the public warnings? Why were patients not told?

Julia Grant was part of the LGBT scene in Manchester in the 1980s and 90s. She knew about Bob Hobson et al and she knew about the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal as well. I bet that Julia also knew about Sir Peter Morrison in Chester and the Westminster Paedophile Ring. If a kid who had grown up in care in north Wales could tell me some 10 yrs ago about the ‘vice ring’ in Buck House involving Backstairs Billy aka William Tallon, the Queen Mum’s loyal retainer who died from an HIV related illness in 2007, why was that vice ring only reported in the media recently? It was in existence by the 1980s and probably years before then.

Now don’t you worry my dear, we’ll look after you…

Bloody War stock photo

An major issue of national security and indeed international security, this network of traffickers jetted off abroad and had a global network. MI5 infiltrated the network successfully years ago, yet they did not stop the abuse of patients, some of whom died. They did not protect people like my friends and I who had begun to realise the enormity of the wrongdoing, instead they did all that they could to put us out of action. Meanwhile a constant source of prey for those we know and love were Referred For Help. Whatever MI5 did do about those we know and love, it was far too little too late. You needed a plant in medicine who would have brought down the Top Docs 30 yrs ago C or M or whatever your name is. That was where the source of the biggest problem was.

Recent posts have explained how Dafydd was a personal mate of Harold Wilson’s Health Minister, 1964-68, Sir Kenneth Robinson. Like David Ennals, Robinson was a big wig in MIND, so helped Dafydd from that angle as well as during the course of his job in Gov’t. I explained in one of my comments following my post ‘The Big Questions’ that I have just acquired a copy of Richard Crossman’s ‘Diaries’. I have already spotted some treasures in Vol III, 1968-70, regarding Brian Abel-Smith and Peter Shore.

Professor Brian Abel-Smith was the LSE economist who designed the flawed economic model which underpinned Nye’s NHS and who oversaw the escalating problems for the next few decades until in 1978, even Abel-Smith gave up with the  civil wars and the intransigent and greedy Top Docs and left his role as a DHSS adviser to take a job as adviser to Peter Shore, the Labour MP for Stepney, 1964-74 and for Tower Hamlets, Stepney and Poplar, then Bethnal Green and Stepney, 1974-97.

Abel-Smith went to work for Peter Shore when Shore was Secretary of State for the Environment and  advised Shore on housing and urban planning issues.

Shore was the MP for a constituency in which Dafydd’s partner gang was busy. Kids in care from Shore’s patch were sent to children’s homes in north Wales. Shore sprang into action to keep the gang out of serious slurry again in the mid-late 1980s, when the HIV infected kids in care who had been trafficked back to the East End as rent boys began dying of AIDS. Shore extracted funding out of Ken Clarke at the DoH to convert the disused Mildmay Mission Hospital in Shoreditch into an AIDS hospice. The victims of John Allen and Dafydd’s gang died in invisibility as their Confidentiality Was Protected, because they were People Who Were Stigmatised. See post ‘Apocalypse Now’.

Shore was Head of the Labour Party’s Research Dept, 1959-64. He was PPS to the PM Harold Wilson, 1965-66; Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Technology, 1966-67 and the Dept of Economic Affairs, 1967-69; Minister Without Portfolio, 1969-70; and in 1969, Deputy Leader of the Commons. In 1974 Shore became Secretary of State for Trade and in 1976, Secretary of State for the Environment. See previous posts for more info on Peter Shore who along with a few others was once A Future Leader Of The Labour Party.

Shore’s constituency was the turf of Lord Elwyn-Jones and his artist wife, Pearl Binder and their social worker son. See previous posts…

Abel-Smith was gay – it was why he turned down the offer of a safe Labour seat, he feared that his ‘private life’ would be made public and cause huge damage – and he and his partner ran a gents outfitters/fashion chain which flogged clothes to the best, including the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and the Who. Dafydd’s gang procured sex workers for those on the rock and pop scene at that time. See previous posts for info…

Abel-Smith was appointed Prof of Social Administration at the LSE in 1965, the year that he launched his fashion chain. He was a member of the South West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board, 1956-63; Chairman of the Chelsea and Kensington Hospital Management Committee, 1962-62; a Governor of Tommy’s, 1957-68 and of the Maudsley and Institute of Psychiatry, 1963-67. Abel-Smith was a Governor of every institution in which Dafydd and his mates were facilitating a sex abuse ring. Abel-Smith served as a Senior Adviser to the Secretary of State for the DHSS, 1968-70 and was reappointed in 1974.

A gang of paedophiles ran the NHS and things were arranged to ensure that they were placed in positions which enabled them to do this. Brown has told me for years that a great many people’s careers and liberty depended upon and still depend upon Dafydd remaining unchallenged, no matter what he did/does.

I have also learnt from Crossman’s Diaries that Peter Shore’s wife was a Formidable Lady Doctor, Dr Elizabeth Shore. Prior to marrying Shore, she was Dr Elizabeth Wrong no less. Dr Wrong married Peter Shore in 1948. She was a Fellow, Royal College of Physicians, London; a Member, Royal College of Surgeons; a Fellow, Faculty of Community Medicine; a Member, Royal College of Physicians, London.

Dr Elizabeth Shore was Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the DHSS, 1977- 1984, while the Secretaries of State for the DHSS were David Ennals, then Patrick Jenkin, then Norman Fowler. While Dr Liz was at the top of the DHSS, Mary Wynch was unlawfully arrested and imprisoned, kids in care in north Wales were being gang raped, trafficked, fitted up for criminal offences and found dead, as were psych patients. Gwynne the lobotomist was sitting in the UCNW Student Heath Centre running the trafficking ring and Brown and I were openly threatened. St George’s were running their ring in south London, assisted by the Maudsley and others… At the DHSS, Health Minister Lord Simon Glenarthur – who for years was a Director of the MDU, which supplied the legal advisers to Dafydd and the Drs Francis, legal advisers who knew that all three of them had perjured themselves when they demanded my imprisonment – ordered the NHS to use blood products purchased from the US known to be infected with Hep B and HIV. Thousands of patients became infected and many have died, more will do. See previous posts.

It was when Dr Liz was Deputy CMO that Patient F found out about the boys in the Ty Newydd children’s home in Bangor being violently assaulted by their social workers. Patient F challenged the social workers about it and dared tell other people. He was soon visited by the Drug Squad, fitted up for class A drugs, then for arson, then imprisoned in Risley Remand Centre where he heard what was probably a murder of an inmate by the screws, was then transferred to the ‘care’ of Dafydd, who sectioned him for a year in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh… In 1993, the gang prevented F having any access to his new baby after accusing him of being a risk to the baby and placed the baby with a family containing two known child abusers. F never saw his son again.

Patrick Jenkin was a member of Middle Temple, alongside Ronnie Waterhouse and was of the same vintage as Ronnie. When questioned on matters of equal pay, Patrick Jenkin stated that if God had wanted us to have equal pay, He would not have created Man and Woman. And when they say no they mean yes. Jenkin’s son Lord Bernard and Bernard’s Lady wife are both busy Tory peers. See previous posts.

Norman Fowler was the man who, along with Dr Liz’s boss Sir Donald Acheson – another mate of Dafydd’s – persuaded Thatch to agree to the AIDS public education programme, although Thatch had traumas over the references to the words ‘back passage’, by explaining to her than those friends and Ministers of hers who were forcing their members into the back passages of the boys in care in north Wales and elsewhere were at serious risk of contracting a virus which would kill them and even BUPA wouldn’t be able to save their lives. Someone explained to Thatch that when Peter Morrison had anal sex with kids in care, his penis ruptured the capillaries in their back passages and HIV, being carried in body fluids, was a lot more likely to be transmitted than when Denis did the business with Thatch via her front bottom. Although had Denis been infected, Thatch would not have been 100% safe. Which is why the people forced into sex work by Dafydd charged extra for Doing It Without A Condom. See previous posts for more Acheson and Fowler-related fun.

Thatch allowed the public education campaigned but she was shocked and disgusted at What They Did and we really Didn’t Need To Hear About It All The Time.

Dr Liz was Dean of Postgrad Medicine for the North-West Thames Region, 1985-93 and Dean of Postgrad Medical Education for the North Thames Region, 1993-95.

Dr Liz was a Director of the Medical Women’s Federation, 1991-92 and the Policy Studies Institute, 1992-98.

Dr Liz was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1980. As Mary Wynch finally emerged from the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and Mr Thrope had just a few months previously been found Not Guilty.

Dr Liz became Lady Shore of Stepney on 5 June 1997, when her people trafficking husband became Lord Shore, as the world called the former kids in care who were by then giving evidence to the Waterhouse Inquiry liars because they had criminal convictions – witnesses to Dafydd’s criminality ended up with criminal convictions, even those who were medical researchers with postgrad degrees – and drug problems. One of the Shores’ children died as a result of illicit drug use.

The Shores were a couple of swells who lived in the best hotels.

We’ve got a Lady Doctor if you’d prefer to see her!

Can you just find me one who’s not a bloody sociopath working for a gang of sex offenders, male, female or intersex, I don’t mind really?

They All Did it To Help The Poor!

Roman Road, Bow in the 1960s

  • Bethnal Green, where in 1986, I and my friends were threatened by sex offenders and nasties linked to Dafydd’s gang (see previous posts eg. ‘The Turn Of The Screw’), was on Lord and Lady S’s manor. The area has now been gentrified, so the Poor who were Helped can’t afford to live there any longer.

Dogma and Disarray?

Anyone exposed to the UK media over the past few days will have realised that it has become a wall to wall ‘NHS In Crisis’ story. The Top Doctors are certainly vexed. However the Top Doctors haven’t indulged in the usual ritual of wheeling out a pompous overpaid old git wearing a bow tie and stripey suit to demand more money. No, the Top Doctors have delegated responsibility to others. Angels, managers, professions allied to medicine, healthcare researchers and policy specialists are all appearing in the media reading out press releases that have been very obviously prepared by the Top Doctors and their associates.

I had the misfortune to hear Polly Toynbee on the radio telling us that the NHS is in crisis – but Poll’s been saying that since 1971 when she published her book ‘A Working Life’ and explained that what the NHS needs is more money.

I haven’t paid much attention to Poll on this blog, despite her status as one of the nation’s most high profile PR organs of the paedophiles’ friends. Poll is not very bright, so it isn’t really worth bothering to engage with her arguments and her rank hypocrisy has been widely discussed. Much has been published about her second home – a villa in Tuscany – and some of her children/step children attending some of the UK’s most expensive and elite public schools. The News Quiz fell about laughing when Poll explained to the nation that the problem with London living being so expensive and low paid workers being priced out was that there wouldn’t be anyone to do the cleaning.

Some years ago Polly was denounced as a scarlet woman by the wife of David Walker, the Guardian journo – he’s their former social affairs editor – with whom Polly had set up home. Walker’s wife wrote articles about how this paragon of virtue had buggered off with her husband and was living in a luxurious house, owned an Italian villa and was driving a flash car, whilst she (Walker’s wife) had been left with nothing.

Poll has ‘gone undercover’ as a working class woman, once in 1970 and again in the early years  this millennium and then used her data to write books about Life At The Bottom. Her attempts at ethnography are laughable – Poll only spent a few weeks living on a limited income and for some of the jobs in which she went undercover, she only did one shift. Nonetheless Poll was then able to tell it like it is. She also believed that no-one realised who she was – somehow Poll I doubt that you fooled anyone, particularly when you charged off disguised as one of the lower orders some 15 years ago.

I haven’t actually purchased any of Poll’s books – I took the line that Mary Whitehouse used to take when she mounted prosecutions against porn publishers, ‘I haven’t read the books, I don’t need to, I know what is in them’ – I have read quite enough of Poll’s dross in the Guardian, but I did read the book reviews, the synopses etc.

The only person who gave Poll’s 2003 volume ‘Hardwork’ the time of day was, significantly, Rosalind Stanwell-Smith, the past President of the Royal Society of Medicine – everyone else identified the piss poor ‘research’. But the President of the Royal Society of Medicine is exactly who Poll is interested in and represents – commentators on both the left and the right have observed that Poll never criticises the state, even when it is kicking people in the teeth repeatedly.

Poll is of course another person on my long list of folk who has been completely unable to bring herself to discuss what the NHS and social services actually do to people, although she undoubtedly knows. Polly’s efforts at going undercover took place at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. In 1970 she worked there as a ward orderly and about 15 years ago she worked there as a porter. So she will have witnessed the rampant snobbery, the entrenched racism, the rigid hierarchies and the shite attitudes towards the patients that pervades the NHS. She also will have heard about negligence or mistakes so serious that patients died and how this was concealed and she will have noticed the corruption which exists in every part of the NHS at every level.

But Poll writes about the lack of funding and the contracting out of services. The contracting out of services has certainly been outrageous, but who do you think actually did that Poll? It was the work of those who sit on Health Boards, who are very often Top Doctors or promoted Angels. These days they’re the ones who agree to give a contract to some dodgy company or hand over the vulnerable patients to places like Winterbourne View where they are abused and any complaints are ignored – or who decide to purchase another machine that goes ping and cut back on what little is being spent on mental health or learning disability services. When you went undercover as a ward orderly in 1970, who was it leaving people with mental health problems – or indeed simply people who complained about being abused by paedophiles as kids in care or by Top Doctors – to rot for decades in crumbling Victorian asylums? It was your mates the Top Doctors and Angels – do you think that they didn’t know what was happening??? They signed the committal papers you daft cow. Did you ever see any of them fight for the rights of patients at the bottom of the heap – or indeed for people like hospital cleaners? No. Because they didn’t – there were some decent people within the system who were appalled by this sort of thing and who personally did their best and treated everyone with respect, but they were completely outnumbered.

When Poll went undercover in the early years of this century she ‘lived’ in a flat on what she thought was a terrible estate in Lambeth, ’10 minutes walk away’ from where her home is. As a journalist, Poll will know about the long and glorious history of Lambeth Borough Council and it’s many scandals, including the abuse of hundreds of kids in care. In order to organise that flat in which she lived, Poll negotiated with senior folk in Lambeth Borough Council. Not only did she not question how proper it was for them to be doing a mate from the Guardian a favour and allowing her to doss down in a flat when they probably had a waiting list of thousands for even hard to let accommodation, but she obviously didn’t ask them about serious mismanagement yet alone that paedophile gang. But if she’d really wanted to enquire about such things, Poll could have easily have bagged an interview with Peter Mandelson – he was a Lambeth Councillor and Poll is on excellent terms with New Labour.

I had always assumed that a dipstick like Polly had been able to pursue a stellar career as a high profile journo because of her family network. She is the great-great niece of THE Arnold Toynbee, the philanthropist after whom Toynbee Hall is named. Some of the good works associated with Toynbee Hall have actually provided an umbrella for the abuse of poor people by rich people, but I fully accept that may not have been part of Arnold’s vision.

Polly’s grandfather was Arnold J. Toynbee and her father was the writer Philip Toynbee. Poll went to Badminton School and then to Holland Park School, the establishment favoured by privileged people who did however want to make a stand against private education. Poll emerged with the grand total of one A level.

Nonetheless Poll bagged a scholarship from St Anne’s College, Oxford. Which I find very interesting – not many people manage to get into Oxford with A levels that shite. Some people certainly do get in having hidden their light under a bushel previously or having been simply underestimated by not very perceptive teachers, but Poll doesn’t strike me as such a person. She’s never said anything original or intelligent since, so I can’t imagine that she suddenly sparkled in the interview and entrance exam…

Poll dropped out of Oxford after 18 months and took a ‘gap year’ – except that it wasn’t. I will return to this soon.

After trying her hand at some menial jobs which Poll found was very hard work for very little money, Poll wrote a novel – just like that – and then began her career of campaigning on behalf of well paid professional people who are selling poor people down the river. The Guardian beckoned and Poll never looked back.

Polly married the journo Peter Jenkins in 1970 – after they met at a trade union conference. Jenkins worked for the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Sunday Times and was Associate Editor of the Indie. I always presumed that it was this that made Polly bomb proof.

After beavering away on the Guardian for years, Polly became the social affairs editor for the BBC, 1988-95. So Polly’s time at the BBC not only spanned the Savile years but she was also working as social affairs editor throughout scandal after scandal regarding the organised abuse of children in care – Pindown in Staffordshire, the Leicestershire Child Abuse Scandal, the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal, the Nottingham Satanic Panic, the Orkneys Child Abuse Scandal, the Sunderland Child Abuse Scandal, the Islington Child Abuse Scandal, the Lambeth Child Abuse Scandal and of course the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal – not to mention the other scandals concerning the abuse of children in care which received less publicity and of course the deaths of children ‘who slipped through the net’.

After she left the BBC, Polly worked for the Independent but then returned to the Guardian, where she remains today. She has also worked for the Observer and for Washington Monthly.

There is a great deal that Toynbee could have said for example about the way in which public sector unions have concealed the harm and abuse of vulnerable people, about how Ken Clarke divided COHSE by paying the members who were nurses more than the other members thus splitting  union and breaking  strike (see post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’) which enabled the Tories to pass unpopular NHS reforms, about how the sheer number of child abuse scandals pointed to a UK wide paedophile network operating within the welfare system involving collusion at the highest levels of Gov’t or indeed many many more things – including what Savile was doing – but no, not a word.

So Toynbee wasn’t really that fearless when it came to championing the causes of the underdog.

Could it possibly be Polly and her connections with the BBC – she worked closely with Andrew Marr at the Independent – which are at least partly responsible for the all out propaganda campaign on behalf of the Top Doctors that we are being subjected to at the moment?

For years Polly has nailed her flag to New Labour’s mast – she maintained that Blair’s Gov’t was politically the best Gov’t that there had been. This has caused her to come under fire -when she wrote her tear jerking 2003 book she observed how hard life now was for poor people, much of it as a result of New Labour’s policies of course. Polly was very rude about Jeremy Corbyn until it was clear that he had huge support among many people, whereupon Polly decided that he was great.

One might predict that Polly isn’t that loyal or particularly firm of purpose. So it is not surprising that in 1981 Polly and Jenkins joined forces with Dr Death, Roy Jenkins et al, signed the Limehouse Declaration and joined the SDP. The Dr Death who personally knew some of the Top Doctors involved in concealing the north Wales paedophile ring and who when he had worked as a nice young doctor before entering politics had assisted the grotesque William Sargant whose madness and contempt for patients resulted in disability and death which had to be as carefully concealed as the mass abuse of children in care. Dr Death has spoken fondly and admiringly of Sargant (see post ‘Dr Death’). I wondered how the activities of Dr Death as Sargant’s right hand man were ever kept out of the press when Dr Death was in frontline politics, but then he had friends like Polly and Peter Jenkins.

Dr Death’s fellow defector Roy Jenkins also did a great deal to conceal the abuse of children in care, including in north Wales (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I’).

Polly stood as the SDP candidate in Lewisham East in the General Election of 1983 but was not elected. Polly was sufficiently attached to Dr Death to oppose the merger with the Liberal Party and to support him in the continuing SDP until it was obvious to even Dr Death that he wasn’t going to be PM. When Dr Death finally threw in the towel Polly returned to the arms of the Labour Party. She later wrote lovingly of New Labour – whose administrations were characterised by the huge number of people who had been directly involved in colluding with, or concealing, organised child abuse who were propelled to high office or to positions of responsibility regarding vulnerable people.

Now I’ll return to Polly’s gap year that wasn’t. Polly withdrew from Oxford University after 18 months and never returned. Polly left Oxford and took up a job with Amnesty International, working on their Nigeria and Rhodesia mission – Polly’s role was as Secretary to Learie Constantine.

Learie Constantine was a West Indian cricketer, journalist, lawyer and politician who emigrated to the UK. Learie lived during an era of all out naked bigotry – he spent time living in Nelson in Lancashire and was treated appallingly – and was someone who did a great deal to challenge racism when challenging racism was very difficult. Constantine was a major influence in the passing of the 1965 Race Relations Act.

After various adventures, during World War II Learie was appointed a welfare officer by the Ministry of Labour. He had responsibility for the West Indian workers who were working in the factories in the north west of England and was particularly involved in improving conditions in Liverpool. The workers faced very serious racism and Learie helped them deal with this. He also worked with trade unions, which will have been no mean feat – trade unions don’t like admitting this but they tended to be very racist organisations until very recently. Ethnic minority workers in the NHS facing racial discrimination routinely received no help at all from NHS unions and the print unions with whom Murdoch did battle had a policy of excluding ethnic minorities from the workforce – they weren’t very nice to women either.

Learie certainly knew the sort of crap that the West Indian workers had to put up with. In 1943 he booked into the Imperial Hotel in London with his wife and daughter. When they actually arrived and it was realised that they were a sort of black colour, they were told that they could only stay for one night because their presence would offend other guests. A colleague of Learie’s from the Ministry of Labour challenged the hotel manager, who told him ‘we are not going to have these niggers in our hotel’. The irony was that Learie at the time was booked to play for a cricket team representing the British Empire and the Commonwealth.

Learie sued the hotel. Not for racial discrimination because refusing to have niggers as guests in one’s hotel wasn’t illegal then, but Learie sued them for breach of contract and amazingly enough won. He received sod all in damages – I wonder why?? – but he had made his point.

Learie also used his influence with the Ministry of Labour to apply pressure to companies who refused to employ West Indians – it was of course legal for them to do this. Learie worked for the Ministry of Labour until 1946.

Learie was Trinidad’s High Commissioner to the UK, 1961-64. Whilst in that post Learie did battle with the Bristol Bus Company which was refusing to employ West Indians – Learie won that one as well. Interestingly enough the Diplomatic Service made some very derogatory comments about Learie, including with regard to his conduct during the dispute with the Bristol Bus Company – yet I can’t find any accounts of what he was alleged to have done wrong. Other than to handle the situation like a ‘welfare worker rather than a diplomat’ – but Learie was obviously effective and it was probably a welfare worker that those being excluded from jobs needed rather more than a diplomat…

As an older man Learie accepted a peerage – he was the first black peer – and had the piss taken out of him for joining the establishment. I know very little about Learie Constantine, but for people of his generation who had been treated very badly a peerage did often mean something. It was taken as a sign of acceptance rather than an invitation simply to dine at the enormous trough. What does seem obvious is that Learie faced terrible bigotry and really did make a difference and a difference to some very downtrodden people, very much more so than the cadre of people whom Blair rewarded for their ‘services to ethnic minorities’.

So that was the man whom Polly was working for when she joined the Amnesty mission in early 1966. Polly’s first port of call was to Lagos in Nigeria. Polly got cross because she felt that they were spending  a great deal of time drinking with representatives of the press. Every time she asked about the welfare of the political prisoners she was simply told that they were OK.

Polly and co then moved on to Salisbury in Rhodesia. Just two or three months previously Ian Smith and his Cabinet had made their Unilateral Declaration of Independence. Rhodesia had become completely alienated from most of the world.

Rhodesia was a British territory in southern Africa and relations with Harold Wilson’s Gov’t had become particularly difficult over a dispute between Wilson and Smith, regarding the safeguarding of black representation in the Rhodesian Parliament during the negotiation of the terms of Rhodesia becoming independent.

The UK, Commonwealth and the UN all declared Rhodesia’s UDI illegal and economic sanctions were imposed. Rhodesia continued as an unrecognised state with the assistance of apartheid South Africa and Portugal’s far right nationalist Catholic Estado Novo regime.

Polly’s sojourn in Salisbury didn’t last long – for six weeks to be precise. We are told that she was expelled by the Rhodesian Gov’t in March 1966 for refusing to give information to the police, but I have yet to find the full details of this.

Upon her return to the UK Polly caused a sensation by revealing via a newspaper article the existence of what became known as the ‘Harry’ letters which it was claimed demonstrated that the British Gov’t had funded Amnesty’s mission in Salisbury. Polly claimed that she had found the Harry letters in a safe in Rhodesia.

The Harry letters were written by Peter Benenson, the founder and President of Amnesty and had been written in London between January and March 1966. They contained references to someone called Harry, which Polly maintained was code for the British Gov’t and were requests for money.

Polly maintained that the letters were evidence of Amnesty having been brought off by Whitehall. Polly’s story was that she had been suspicious of the large mounts of money that seemed to be sloshing around for Amnesty’s mission in Salisbury in relation to the modest size of Amnesty’s operations in Rhodesia and Nigeria. Amnesty was still a small fledgling organisation at this time – it was run from Benenson’s legal chambers. Polly claimed to have confronted Benenson over rumours that the British Gov’t was funding Amnesty’s mission in Rhodesia and that Benenson had admitted it and had made reference to an ‘Operation Lordship’.

There was one hell of a row and questions asked in the House. Harold Wilson admitted that Amnesty had approached the Gov’t and that the Gov’t had pointed them in the direction of funding sources. As a result of the scandal, all ties between Amnesty and Whitehall were severed.

Amnesty very nearly fell apart as a result of all this. The other senior people in Amnesty blamed everything on Benenson and stated that he had done all this by himself. In his defence, Benenson said that the money from Whitehall had been for the welfare of Rhodesian political prisoners and their families and that the British Gov’t had wanted the payments kept secret for political reasons. Benenson claimed that Amnesty had been infiltrated by the British intelligence services. He made allegations of improper conduct against other members of the Amnesty executive and an inquiry was set up, which reported at a meeting in Denmark in 1967. All the allegations were rejected and Benenson resigned from the organisation.

When  I first read about Polly causing this much trouble as a 19 year old my antennae started twitching. A young uneducated not very clever Polly would not have been able to do all this unaided – although even now the story is presented as though she did. How did she gain access to dynamite letters that were just hanging around in a safe which just happened to confirm her suspicions and the rumours that she’d heard regarding Whitehall funding? And how did she achieve a fair hearing at the hands of the UK press – they are notorious for screwing people over, particularly if one has evidence of wrongdoing in high places.

Somebody was using Polly to inflict serious damage upon both Harold Wilson’s Gov’t and a newly formed organisation which was challenging some of the most corrupt and brutal regimes in the world.

Polly – I can understand that you will have had your suspicions about secret funding and I can understand that you knew that Amnesty promoted itself as a non-political organisation. But Rhodesia was an illegal state propped up by other deeply unpleasant states and people were being murdered. Harold Wilson was an unscrupulous old git but I can’t imagine that dealing with Ian Smith was particularly easy. Smith led a nakedly racist corrupt Gov’t which ended up virtually placing the Governor of Rhodesia under house arrest. Do you think that Wilson might have been quite keen to help an organisation that was challenging Ian Smith’s Gov’t? And who Polly do you think might have had a vested interest in damaging both Wilson and Amnesty? Rogue elements in the British security services perhaps who it has long been alleged tried to being down Wilson and were colluding with the apartheid regime in South Africa, which was propping up Ian Smith? Er Poll – it was rogue elements in the British security services who were known to have concealed the Westminster Paedophile Ring.

If one has a look at Ian Smith’s wiki entry, one will see a nice photo of him taken at the Monday Club in 1990. One of the leading lights of the Monday Club was John Carlisle, Conservative MP for Luton who was good mates with the South African Gov’t and was on record as saying that as a system of Gov’t, apartheid worked. Other charmers in the Monday Club included Alan Clark and Neil Hamilton.

Give us all a laugh O Polly of the Guardian and tell us who put you up to it all – if you’re even bright enough to realise how you were used by them.

If Polly was allowing herself to be used by elements in the security services, it explains a great deal – not least why a dipstick like Polly had not been blown out of journalism years ago and why this mediocre old bat is alleged to wield such power in the media.

It also explains something a lot more worrying than Polly’s longevity as a writer of insubstantial rubbish. It explains why Amnesty became corrupted and attracted the support of some people whom it could well have done without.

Let’s look at Amnesty pre-Polly and post-Polly.

Amnesty was founded in 1961 by Peter Benenson, a Jewish lawyer who had long been associated with peace activism and radical causes. Benenson himself had a background in war time military intelligence and had worked at Bletchley Park. After demobilisation he worked as a barrister and joined the Labour Party, standing unsuccessfully for election to the Commons.

Benenson helped found JUSTICE in 1957 and he converted to Roman Catholicism in 1958.

Benenson founded Amnesty after reading about unjust imprisonments under the Estado Novo regime in Portugal. He contacted David Astor, the Editor of the Observer and subsequently an article of Benenson’s entitled ‘The Forgotton Prisoners’ was published. This was the catalyst to ask readers to participate in a letter writing campaign. The campaign was only supposed to last a short while but it quickly evolved into Amnesty.

I can’t see any obvious sleaze on Benenson, although one of the people involved in Amnesty from the very beginning has featured on this blog with regard to his major role in concealing the abuse of children in care and the very serious criminal activities of the Top Doctors – Louis Blom-Cooper QC no less (see post ‘Security, Security’). And course David Astor of the Observer may not have quite been the living saint that many believed him to be (see post ‘In Memoriam – Bronwen, Lady Astor’).

After Polly chucked a hand grenade which was probably manufactured by the security services at Amnesty and Benenson resigned, the post of President was abolished and Benenson’s friend and fellow founder of Amnesty Eric Baker was appointed Secretary General and left to clean up the blood on the carpet.

Eric Baker was a Quaker, a founder of CND and a peace activist who had become friends with Benenson when they worked on peace missions in Cyprus together in the late 1950s. Eric was Secretary General of Amnesty from 1966 until July 1968 and had a difficult time holding Amnesty together.

Another founder member of Amnesty was Sean MacBride. MacBride was one of those who knifed Benenson after Polly’s revelations – when MacBride became sanctimonious about Benenson accepting money from Whitehall for the support of the families of people who had been imprisoned for political reasons by Ian Smith’s illegal white minority regime, Benenson reminded MacBride that the International Commission of Jurists, of which MacBride was Secretary-General, was funded by the CIA. However Benenson and MacBride did become reconciled many years later.

Sean MacBride was an Irish journalist and barrister, although he was actually born in and lived for some time in Paris and his first language was French. Like others involved with Amnesty, MacBride was a founder member of JUSTICE. He was alleged to have been the Director of Intelligence for the IRA and also served as their Chief of Staff in the 1930s.

In 1946 MacBride founded the Republican/Socialist party Clann na Poblachta. After the 1948 General Election MacBride became the Minister for External Affairs whilst the Council of Europe was drafting the EHRC (European Commission on Human Rights).

MacBride was Vice-President of the Organisation for the European Economic Co-Operation. He was President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, 1949-50.

In 1951 MacBride ordered Dr Noel Browne, the Minister of Health in Ireland, to resign as a Minister because of Browne’s support for the Mother and Child Scheme after the Scheme was attacked by the Catholic Church and Irish Medical Association. MacBride himself opposed the Mother and Child Scheme because he would not oppose the Catholic Church.

The Mother and Child Scheme was a healthcare programme proposed after Noel Browne became concerned over the high mortality rate among children in Ireland, particularly from TB. Browne wanted to modernise healthcare in Ireland, make it free and without means testing for mothers and children up to 16 years of age. Browne was an admirer of the newly created NHS in the UK.

There was huge opposition to the Mother and Child Scheme. The Irish Medical Association banged on about the evils of socialised medicine and communist influences and the Catholic Church were greatly concerned that it might offer gynaecogical care not consistent with Catholic principles and even pave the way to contraception and abortion. It was also argued that health provision for children was the ‘right’ of the parents and not the state’s concern. The Protestant Church of Ireland feared communist interference in the family.

The Mother and Child Scheme was duly abandoned in the face of such rational argument.

MacBride held a number of senior appointments with the UN including Assistant Secretary-General, President of the General Assembly, High Commissioner for Refugees and between 1973-77, High Commissioner for Namibia. MacBride’s father Major John MacBride had led the Irish Transvaal Brigade (also known as the MacBride Brigade) for the Boers against the British Army in the Boer War – which it was said gave MacBride ‘unique access’ to the South African apartheid Gov’t.

In 1974 MacBride was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Just like Aung San Suu Kyi.

In 1980 MacBride became Chairman of UNESCO. He was President of UNESCO’s International Commission for the Study of Communications Problems which resulted in the 1981 MacBride Report. There was a bitt of grief as a result of that Report – the US and UK maintained that it was an attack on the freedom of the press and withdrew from UNESCO for many years.

MacBride considered himself a pan-Celtist, as did another person who also held the position of the IRA Chief of Staff, Sean MacStiofain. It has been suggested that it was Mac Stiofain’s influence that prevented the IRA from carrying out attacks in Wales or Scotland – the IRA always argued that it was England that was the colonial occupier.

The pan-Celtists had links with nationalist Welsh language groups in Wales, such as the Gorsedd of the Bards and the National Eisteddfod. It is entirely possible that Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and other paedophiles’ friends in north Wales knew MacBride and Mac Stiofain – Dafydd made links with Irish Republicans when he was busying himself with Welsh activism during his days at Liverpool Medical School (see post ‘A Network Stretching Back Decades’) and many of the paedophiles’ friends are members of the Gorsedd and enthusiastic participants in the National Eisteddfod.

Martin Ennals succeeded Eric Baker as Secretary-General of Amnesty and was in post 1968-80. Ennals is considered a giant among human rights activists and along with Toby Young’s father Michael Young and others in 1985 he helped found International Alert, which is concerned with ‘peace building activities’. Ennals also helped found ARTICLE 19 in 1987.

Ennals worked for UNESCO, 1951-59 and in 1959/60 was one of the founders of the Anti-Apartheid Movement.

Ennals was Secretary-General of NCCL, 1959-66. This was just before the NCCL’s notorious ‘paedophile period’, but as we shall see Martin Ennals was close to people who concealed organised child abuse.

In 1966 Ennals was appointed Information and Publicity Officer for the CRE (Commission for Racial Equality).

Ennals was considered outstandingly successful at Amnesty and it was under him that Amnesty blossomed into a global organisation. When he took office Amnesty had a staff of seven and an annual budget of 17k – when he left twelve years later there were 150 staff and an annual budget of 2 million.

Whilst Ennals was Secretary-General, Amnesty won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Erasmus Prize and the UN Human Rights Award.

I have not researched the sources of Amnesty’s funds during Ennals’s tenure, but I do know that Amnesty was very careful not to tread on the toes – including the corrupt toes – of the British establishment.

When the first appeal of the Birmingham Six failed, Lord Denning made his ‘appalling vista’ speech, in which he argued that if the Birmingham Six won an appeal it would confirm corruption so extensive in the British criminal justice system that it could not be handled and it was better that they should remain in prison. Before the Birmingham Six were eventually released, my friend Brown was invited to speak to a meeting of Amnesty in Birmingham and caused a diplomatic incident by giving  talk about the Birmingham Six. The audience started asking the committee some very difficult questions, such as why they were refusing to take up the cause of the Birmingham Six. Brown told me that very inadequate answers were given, simply maintaining that the Birmingham Six had received a trial. Sadly it was a trial in which a great many people told a great many lies and a great many people knew this but didn’t mention it.

The Birmingham Six were beaten senseless by British police officers and prison staff, put on trial and wrongly imprisoned in 1975. Martin Ennals was Secretary General of Amnesty at the time and was still in post when the first application by the Birmingham Six for leave to appeal was rejected.

Martin Ennals was awarded the Ghandi Peace Prize.

Martin Ennals’s elder brother David Ennals was Labour MP for Dover, 1964-70 and then for Norwich North, 1974-83. David Ennals also is described as a human rights campaigner.

David Ennals was a junior Minister in the Home Office in 1967 under Home Secretary Jim Callaghan. Whilst the Home Office concealed child abuse in Bryn Estyn and the other Approved Schools which the Home Office directly managed and whilst Jim Callaghan kept quiet about his child molesting colleague, fellow south Wales Labour MP George Thomas.

In 1968 David Ennals was Minister of State for Social Services, under Secretary of State Sir Kenneth Robinson.

Kenneth Robinson was Labour MP for St Pancras North, 1949-70. He was Minister of Health/Secretary  State for the DHSS, Oct 1964-Nov 1968, in Harold Wilson’s Gov’t.

Robinson was the son of a Top Doctor and an Angel. Like  a number of others who concealed child abuse and the associated wrongdoing in psychiatry such as Jim Callaghan and the lobotomist Dr T. Gwynne Williams, Robinson had a Royal Navy background.

Robinson has been described as probably ‘the most respected Health Minister’ who ‘took informed advice from his local GPs during difficult negotiations over the General Practitioners Charter in 1965’. Robinson published the first consultative document on the reorganisation of the NHS and the need for administrative reform. One ‘compromise’ that Kenneth instituted was to ‘reduce the number of hospital beds…in return, the Gov’t lifted the limits on the fees that medical consultants could charge to patients’.

So Sir Ken adopted the solution to the Top Doctors being arsey that Blair did – pay them even more for doing less. Thus you enter the history books as being someone who did so much for the NHS.

Kenneth Robinson was also the first Chairman of MIND, which in those days was known as the National Association for Mental Health. Ken’s association with NAMH seems to be well hidden for some reason, but I’ve worked out that he was Chairman between 1951-69. Not only whilst he was Health Minister but whilst Dr Dafydd Alun Jones was a leading light in the NAMH. Whilst Gwynne and Dafydd lobotomised people, shocked them, illegally incarcerated them, financially and sexually abused them, facilitated a paedophile ring and trafficked patients into sex work – and kept some of their victims in a cellar. As well as overseeing that unfortunate business in the mid 1960s where Dafydd ‘discharged patients into community care’. What actually happened was that coaches turned up at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, chronically ill patients – who had been given no warning that this was going to happen – were loaded on board and were dumped in unsuitable accommodation on the north Wales coast, where they were later found starving, destitute and covered in lice. I bet that some of them died as well but no-one ever admitted it.

After 1969 the DHSS managed the NHS in Wales via the Welsh Office. So Ken and his minion David Ennals were directly responsible for Dafydd and Gwynne…

This is the NHS that Polly will hear no criticism of.

Whilst Robinson was Chairman of NAMH, the Church of Scientology infiltrated NAMH, there was an enormous dust-up and Robinson ended up suing the Scientologists for libel. Robinson won the case in 1973 and accepted an apology and damages.

The Scientologists famously hate psychiatry and have for years maintained that psychiatry is guilty of harming people and is involved with child abuse. It is a great pity that the Scientologists are mad and abusive themselves because much of what they allege about psychiatry is true, only no-one has felt able to take their accusations seriously because of the Scientologists own misconduct.

Robinson supported homosexual law reform and was a member of the executive committee of the Homsexual Law Reform Society. He also supported reforming the laws governing suicide in England and Wales, which were repealed in 1961. Robinson was said to have significantly contributed to ridding suicide of stigma. So that’ll be why the Hergest Unit have suicidal patients arrested or tell them to go on and kill themselves if that is what they want to do.

Robinson later found his true home and joined Dr Death in the SDP.

Kenneth Robinson was Chairman of the English National Opera, 1972-77 and Chairman of the Arts Council for Great Britain, 1977-82.

David Ennals lost his seat in the 1970 General Election but was included on Harold Wilson’s resignation honours list, the discredited ‘Lavender List’ – he was made a Privy Councillor.

Between 1970-73 Ennals led a major campaign for NAMH and it was as a result of this campaign that NAMH renamed itself MIND.

Ennals was re-elected as an MP in 1974 and between 1976-79 was Secretary of State for the DHSS, in Jim Callaghans Gov’t – during which time Ennals and Callaghan, along with the Welsh Office, concealed the abuses of Dafydd and Gwynne as well as the activities of the paedophile gang which they were facilitating. Ennals of course also concealed abuses of psychiatry in other regions of the UK as well as the abuse of children in care – sometimes by politicians and civil servants – throughout the nation’s social services depts.

By 1971 Ennals knew Jim Birley, a leading light at the Maudsley – Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Dean of  the Royal College of Psychiatrists and President of the BMA – who knew Dafydd personally and concealed his wrongdoing as well as much wrongdoing in south London (see post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’).

David Ennals left the Commons in 1983 and was given a peerage.

Between 1984-89 Ennals was Chairman of MIND. Where he continued the service of concealing the criminal activities of Dafydd et al in north Wales. By this time, MIND had hosted a conference at which paedophiles rights had been discussed and had employed Tony Smythe – who has been described as ‘paedophile friendly’ – as CEO. Smythe had been General Secretary of NCCL, 1966-71 and was Vice-President of the CHE (Campaign for Homosexual Equality). Some of those named as child abusers in the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were involved with the Chester branch of CHE, which it was alleged was a front for paedophilia. Smythe first became involved with MIND in 1971, when David Ennals was leading their campaign. Further details of Ennals’s and Smythe’s activities in MIND can be read in my post ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health -Never For Themselves Of Course’.

David Ennals, like Martin, was involved with the Anti-Apartheid Movement – he was Chairman, 1960-64. Their brother John Chaired the AAM, 1968-76.

Despite David Ennals’s involvement in AAM, he helped pass the Commonwealth Immigration Act 1968, which restricted the rights of Commonwealth citizens to settle in Britain.

Ennals also Chaired the Ghandi Foundation and was a personal friend of the Dalai Lama.

David Ennals held senior office in the UNA.

Dafydd Alun Jones was an invited speaker at a planned UNA conference in Bangor University some 12 years ago.

David Ennals’s son Sir Paul Ennals was Chief Exec of the NCB (National Children’s Bureau), which had links to paedophiles.

So as far as I can see, Polly’s brave expose of Amnesty’s Secret Dirty Deal With Whitehall was a set up by the security services which resulted in the departure of the founder of Amnesty who seemed quite genuine and heralded an era of the domination of Amnesty by some very questionable people with links to organised child abuse who would not confront abuses of the state if it was the British state involved.

I have no idea whether Toynbee realises what she actually did, but Poll seems good at conjuring up solutions that could prove lethal. In 2002 in a debate hosted by the RSA and Prospect, Polly argued that the west should pursue liberal internationalism by intervening through the UN to promote democracy around the world. Perhaps Polly missed the Srebrenica massacre in 1995 which was carried out in a supposedly UN safe area in the presence of UN Dutch soldiers.

In 2014 Polly said the following regarding her identification as a humanist: ‘everyone is born with an in-built moral purpose. It springs from mankind’s evolution as a social being, acting collaboratively, with altruism and the good of the community hard wired. It needs no orders from elsewhere to telll people to be good – they know it already as part of the human condition….’

I don’t know in which subject Polly gained that one A level at Holland Park School, but it certainly wasn’t in evolutionary theory or philosophy.

Regarding the business of the secret funding for political prisoners and their families in Rhodesia all those years ago, Poll observed at the time that the Red Cross could have catered for the prisoners welfare. Whether someone like Ian Smith would have ever let the Red Cross do that I do not know, but I’ll tell you what the Red Cross were doing not so long ago Poll – they were providing the only care that there was for elderly people leaving Ysbyty Gwynedd. Because Gwynedd Social Services wouldn’t. No, it won’t be a matter of resources either – Gwynedd County Council used the resources argument when it was discovered that a paedophile gang was at work in the children’s homes. Que??

Radical Leicester And Some Other Free Radicals

Whilst researching the background of people who protected the paedophiles’ friends, I noticed that a great many had been involved in some way with the Runnymede Trust. I’m not sure why – the Runnymede Trust is a registered charity, an ‘independent race equality think tank’ which ‘aimed to generate intelligence for a multi-ethnic Britain through research, network building, leading debate and policy engagement’. It was established in 1968 and at present receives much of its funding from the Home Office. Other major donors are the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and the Robert Gavron Charitable Trust.

It could just be that an involvement with the Runnymede Trust looks good on one’s CV and there’s nothing more important to the cadre of paedophiles’ friends whom Blair appointed to senior positions or to the Lords than ticking the right boxes on one’s CV – but of course, if that is happening, the Runnymede Trust will be doubling up as a networking opportunity for the paedophiles’ friends.  I decided to have a look at those who founded the Runnymede Trust as well as those who have held leading roles in that organisation.

One of the movers and shakers in the establishment of the Runnymede Trust and its first Director was Dipak Nandy. Dipak is an Indian Marxist who was born in Calcutta in 1936 and came to Britain in 1956. Nandy studied at Leeds University where he met his first wife – whom he later married in 1964, by which time he was a lecturer at the University of Leicester (I think that she was one of his students at the time). Dipak and his wife, Maggie, feature in ‘Radical Leicester’, a document produced years ago which proudly flags up a few folk who flew the red flag in that city in the past.

In the 1980s Leicester was known as a city which had one of the notorious ‘loony left’ councils – Leicester City Council were very hot on race and ethnicity ‘initiatives’ because of the composition of the population. Not that these initiatives always reached the people who were alleged to be benefiting from them. I lived in Leicester for a few months in 1987 – I shared a house with Brown and a few others and we were the only white British people in the street. One afternoon one of our neighbours paid us a visit and asked if I and my friend would teach his daughters English. My friend was someone who was involved in aspects of Radical Leicester herself and asked me why our neighbour hadn’t contacted the City Council if he wanted English lessons. Well if you’re a first generation migrant who works long hours and who doesn’t speak much English yourself you won’t be having much contact with Keith Vaz or his mum in the City Council, but if you have two young English women as neighbours who work in universities, the obvious thing to do if you want someone to teach your daughters English is to ask the neighbours.

In 1987 I knew very little about Leicester – unlike my friend I didn’t have links with Radical Leicester and I was far too busy trying to stop those we know and love in north Wales from having me imprisoned. I had a part-time job in an old people’s home where I worked with a young Indian woman who’s sister had run away from home to escape a forced marriage, so I learnt that was happening. I also heard a local GP joking about all the Indian girls running away from home before they were 19 to escape forced marriages, so I knew that the problem was being ignored. I knew that there were at least three sweatshops down the road from our house which were owned by people who’s attitude to fire hazards would make Richard Littlejohn look like the most enthusiastic member of the HSE and who Unemployed South Asian women with no English who worked in secret throughout the night and then all sneaked out of the door at about 5 am. I therefore assumed that they were working illegally. I found out from someone who’s husband worked in clothing that the existence of these sweatshops was also very well-known.

It was whilst I was living in Leicester that I first discovered how well-known the criminality of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones et al in north Wales was. As I was repeatedly arrested on the basis of the increasingly lurid allegations made by Dafydd and the Top Doctors and cases collapsed in Court after it became clear that they had all lied their arses off (see post ‘Workers’ Play Time’), Brown became very worried indeed that one day they’d get their stories straight and it would be a long prison sentence for me. Brown knew a mature student who was a former social worker whom he invited over for advice who incredibly enough turned out to be lovely – she had left social work because she found that her colleagues were far more interested in pursuing vendettas against each other than in helping their clients. I told her some of what had happened to me in north Wales and showed her some of the police statements that had been made about me and she was horrified, told me that the contingent in north Wales had broken the law repeatedly and that something very worrying was going on. She recommended that I go to MIND for advice.

I went to see Leicester MIND – only to find that the man down there had heard that there was serious corruption in the mental health services in north Wales, that it was ‘all tied up with Freemasonry’, that there’d been a big investigation up there and that one psychiatrist ‘had everything stitched up for himself’. He recommended that I go to see William Bingley, MIND’s legal director in London. Bingley told me that Dafydd was ‘a very charming psychopath’, that there had been numerous complaints about him to the GMC including at least one which involved a death, that he routinely threatened and bribed people, that he ran a ‘sex therapy’ clinic in north Wales which he used to wield power over people and that if I returned to north Wales I would undoubtedly find myself constantly harassed by him and his henchmen. What William didn’t tell me was that in addition to all this, Dafydd was facilitating a paedophile gang, that MIND were colluding with it all and that Bingley used this a few years later to bag himself a job as Chief Exec of the Mental Health Act Commission – who were also colluding with Dafydd and the paedophiles.

Because I was living in Leicester whilst one of the cases that Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends brought against me was going through the courts, my lawyer used the services of a psychiatrist from Leicester, Dr James Earp, for the court report. James Earp wasn’t the lunatic that Dafydd was, but he covered up for Dafydd’s law breaking nonetheless (see post ‘An Expert From England’).

I now know that there was a paedophile ring operating in Leicester that had links to Dafydd’s gang and that as in north Wales, the mental health services, the social services and the City Council were concealing it – and I bet that MIND in Leicester were as well. The high profile figure involved with the paedophile gang in north Wales/Cheshire was Sir Peter Morrison, the Tory MP for Chester and Thatcher’s aide. The high profile figure in Leicester who was involved with the gang there was of course Lord Greville Janner, Labour MP for Leicester North West (1970-74) and Leicester West (1974-97). Janner succeeded the seat of Leicester North West after his father Barnett Janner – who like Greville Janner was a lawyer who was given a peerage. Barnett Janner had spent the first part of his life in Cardiff and had been a student at the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. Barnett was subsequently Liberal MP for Whitechapel (1931-35), then Labour MP for Leicester North West (1945-70). Greville Janner was famously never prosecuted, although he was interviewed by the police in 1991 – his lawyer Sir David Napley was so certain that Janner would be charged that he retained the crooked barrister George Carman (see post ‘Sisters Are Indeed Doing It For Themselves’). Janner wasn’t charged although the CPS have since fessed up that there was sufficient evidence for charges – but no-one has explained why none were forthcoming. Much more recently Janner was supposed to have faced a trial of the facts. There was delay after delay and Janner died before even that happened. Janner’s daughter Rabbi Laura Janner-Klauser and his son, Daniel Janner – who is a lawyer like old Greville was – are robustly asserting that their dad was a lovely old boy who has been wrongly accused by gold-diggers and Daniel Janner has threatened to sue the arse of any former kids in care who allege that his dad molested them. Janner’s other daughter is the notorious Marion Janner, who is a mental health campaigner. Marion and her support dog Buddy are regulars on the Radio 4 ‘All In The Mind’ programme and Marion has complimented the mental health services in north Wales on their excellence. Marion seems to have succeeded in extracting a rather higher standard of mental health care out of the mental health services for herself than the rest of us ever have.

Greville was friends with a man called Frank Beck. Beck was a senior social worker who was officer in charge of a number of children’s homes in Leicestershire who died not long after he was jailed in 1991. Beck received five life sentences for multiple sexual and physical assaults on children and a further 24 years for other offences, including rape. Before he was convicted – even after there had been complaints about his conduct – Beck was constantly described as an extremely able dedicated social worker who pioneered successful therapy for troubled children. Beck had also been elected as a Liberal Councillor on Blaby District Council in 1983 – he was re-elected in 1987. The Kirkwood Inquiry which followed Beck’s conviction absolutely damned Leicestershire County Council. The Kirkwood Inquiry was at the time the biggest investigation that there had ever been into institutional child abuse in the UK – until the Waterhouse Inquiry a few years later. Greville remained in Parliament as did Keith Vaz who had been sitting in the constituency of Leicester East throughout but had never noticed anything amiss. When Greville took up his seat in the Lords in 1997, Patricia Hewitt succeeded him in Leicester West. The Patricia who was General Secretary of the NCCL whilst it was affiliated to PIE, the Patricia who later became Blair’s Secretary of State for Health. The Patricia who is married to William Birtles – a judge. Birtles was also involved with the NCCL.

Radical Leicester will have heard about the paedophile gang – you can’t work on the ground in communities and not notice at least a few clues when something like that is happening. Another person who will have known is Sue Townsend, the celebrated author of the Adrian Mole books. Townsend lived in Leicester her whole life and she worked as a community youth worker. Some people in Leicester University will also have known – James Earp’s colleagues in the medical school knew and people involved with social work/social policy/ sociology will have known.

Tony Blair’s advisor and favourite sociologist Anthony Giddens began his career at Leicester University – Giddens taught social psychology there between 961-69. In 2004 Anthony Giddens became Lord Giddens and joined Greville in the upper house.

Nigel Lawson, Thatcher’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, 1983-89 – whilst Sir Peter Morrison was Minister of State for Employment (1983-85), Minister of State for the DTI (1985-86), Deputy Party Chairman (1986-87) and Minister of State for Energy (1987-90) – was MP for Blaby in Leicestershire, 1974-92. Nigel Lawson was yet another person who was elevated to the peerage in 1992 – days before five witnesses to the paedophile gang in north Wales were killed by a firebomb (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’).

As with north Wales, the paedophile gang in Leicester went back decades – I suspect that playwright Joe Orton who grew up in Leicester may have been involved with them (see comments following my post ‘They Planned To Put Acid In All The Reservoirs’).

To return to Radical Leicester. Dipak Nandy’s first wife, Maggie, had studied sociology at Leeds University, was a member of the Communist Party and was active in the Communist Party during the 1963 elections. In 1964 Maggie undertook postgraduate teacher training at Leicester University’s School of Education. Whilst at Leicester University she was a member of the Anti-Racialist Committee. Maggie and Dipak split up in 1969, just after he founded the Runnymede Trust.

Dipak and Maggie Nandy were both active in the CRE (Commission for Racial Equality) and in the 1970s Maggie was active against the NF (National Front). She taught at Bushloe and Countesthorpe College and was the warden of Blaby Teachers Centre. Maggie wrote for ‘Forum’ – not the soft porn magazine which published stories by Alastair Campbell, but a left-leaning education magazine which went under the same name. Maggie was also active in the Youth Foundation which provided housing for black people. By 1977 Maggie was Deputy Head at West Moors Middle School in Dorset – she then returned to Leicester and began studying to become a lawyer. She died from cancer in 1982.

Someone with Maggie’s CV could not have remained completely unaware that children were being abused.

Rob Evans, one of the senior managers of the north Wales children’s services in the 1980s whilst the paedophile gang operated within those services, had previously worked as a team leader in Dorset and before that had undertaken social work training at Leicester University. Rob Evans was then given responsibility by Gwynedd Social Services for mental health services, where he took no action at all when challenged about the abuses of Keith Fearns and the Arfon Community Mental Health Team (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’). Post-Waterhouse dear old Rob was appointed to run community services on Anglesey. Rob was one of the many who accused me of ‘arassin’ him after he’d spent a few years delivering children to a paedophile ring. Rob was one of the social workers who took the children’s shoes away because they did insist on trying to escape from the beatings and the buggery – when Rob admitted to me that he did this, he described it as ‘social work practice’.

‘Radical Leicester’ also paid tribute to Colin Grundy, a member of the Labour Party. Grundy began his teaching career in 1960 as a science teacher at Roundhill School and was the Labour candidate for a Leicester constituency in 1966 and 1970. In the 1970 General Election Grundy was beaten by the Conservative candidate Tom Boardman by 106 votes. Boardman held the seat until 1974 and was a key figure in Heath’s Gov’t. In 1973 Grundy was elected to Leicester City Council for North Braunstone ward; he was Councillor for Westcotes ward from 1983 and became Chair of the Planning Committee. Grundy became Deputy Head at Alderman Newton’s School, retiring in 1987. In 1991 Grundy was Lord Mayor of Leicester.

Dipak Nandy married again in 1972. He married Annie Byers, the daughter of Lord Frank Byers, who was leader of the Liberals in the Lords for 19 years. Frank Byers was a member of the committee which ‘investigated’ Jeremy Thorpe’s conduct in 1971. The investigation included Normal Scott being interviewed by the committee – the interview ended with Frank Byers shouting insults at Norman Scott and Scott leaving the room in tears (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’). Because Norman was just a Nancy boy of course, not because Jeremy was plotting to have him murdered.

Dipak and Annie had a daughter in 1979 – Lisa. She’s now a Labour MP! Please see post ‘He Knows Where The Bodies Are Buried’ for details of my unpleasant experiences when the Compass Group invited me to go to London to hear Lisa speak.

Dipak Nandy left academia when he founded the Runnymede Trust in 1968. When he stepped down from the role of Director in 1973, he spent a year having an ‘educational break’ with Social and Community Planning Research. Nandy then acted as a special consultant to the Home Office to work on the Sex Discrimination Bill in 1975 – he also was one of the people who drafted the Race Relations Bill in 1976. The Home Secretary at the time was the Lord Protector of Paedophiles, Roy Jenkins (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I’).

In 1976 Nandy moved to Manchester where the EOC (Equal Opportunities Commission) was located.  He was appointed the EOC’s Deputy Director and Chief Policymaker and remained in those roles until 1986. In 1979 Nandy began to forge a link with the Directorate-General V of the European Commission – he was Conference Secretary for the Commission’s Conference regarding their work towards the equal treatment of women throughout the nine members of the European Commission.

Dipak Nandy was Chairman of the BBC’s Immigrant Programme, 1983-88 and of its General Council, 1983-90. Presumably Dipak found his way to those positions as a result of his membership of the Annan Committee, which was established in 1974 to discuss the UK Broadcasting Authority and the funding of the BBC, IBA and broadcasting standards. It was the Annan Committee who when they reported in 1977 recommended a fourth independent TV channel.

Dipak sat on the Annan Committee along with Sir Charles Morrison’s wife. Charles Morrison was the elder brother of Sir Peter Morrison, who at the time that his sister-in-law was discussing broadcasting standards with Lisa Nandy’s dad was Conservative MP for Chester and was molesting children in care in north Wales as well as in other locations.

The Chair of the Annan Committee was Lord Noel Annan. Noel Annan entered Kings College, Cambridge in 1935. Whilst he was there he was a member of the secret debating society the Cambridge Apostles – Guy Burgess and Michael Straight who later spied for the Soviets were also members. In 1940 Annan joined the Intelligence Corps and he then served in Churchill’s War Cabinet. In 1944 he was posted to Paris with British Military Intelligence.

Annan returned to Kings College in 1946 as an academic. He was appointed Provost of Kings in 1956, received a peerage in 1965 and then became Provost of UCL in 1966. Annan was Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, 1978-81. My post ‘Doris Karloff – Honest About Her Expenses But Not Much Else’ explains how Ann Widdecombe, although in a senior administrators job at London University, was in the early eighties positively encouraged by her boss to take as much time off as she wanted in order to go hunting for a suitable constituency where she could stand as the Conservative candidate as well as to pursue covert activities opposing the anti-nuclear movement. Furthermore, Widdecombe was allowed to take secretarial staff from the University with her in pursuit of her ventures – the staff provided free labour. Noel Annan was Vice-Chancellor at the time and Ann’s misuse of University resources continued under the next VC, Lord Randolph Quirk. Lord Annan was: a Director of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Chairman of the Trustees of the National Gallery; a Trustee of the British Museum; the President of the London Library.

Another member of the Annan Committee was Philip Whitehead, Labour MP. My post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part IV’ describes how Whitehead was the MP for two different constituencies, on in Derbyshire and then one in Staffordshire, both areas with very serious problems of organised child abuse.

Professor Hilde Himmelweit also sat on the Committee. Himmelweit was a social psychologist who did her PhD with the discredited H.J. Eysenck at the Institute of Psychiatry. She worked at the LSE, 1948-83 and was given a Chair in 1964.

Tom Jackson the trade unionist was also a member of the Committee. Jackson was General Secretary of the Post Office Workers and was Chairman of the General Council of the TUC, 1978-79 – the TUC which embraced all those unions representing the staff of children’s homes, psychiatric hospitals etc who abused or concealed the abuse of the people whom they were paid to care for. Jackson was a BBC Governor, 1968-73,  a member of the Court and Council of Sussex University, 1974-78 and a Director of BP, 1975-83.

Sir Antony Jay, a writer, broadcaster and director who worked for the BBC and in PR was another Annan Committee member. Jay joined the BBC in 1955, was Editor of ‘Tonight’, 1962-63 and Head of Television Talk Features, 1963-64. Jay left the BBC in the mid-60s and in 1972 became John Cleese’s business partner in Video Arts. Antony Jay was a big supporter of Thatcher and penned a lot of material in which he accused the BBC of being a dangerous bastion of liberalism and having a left-wing bias. Jay co-authored the only thing that Thatcher ever seemed to find amusing, the series ‘Yes Minister’.

Lord Mackay of Clashfern, a Conservative peer, also sat on the Committee. Mackay was Lord Advocate, 1979-84 and Lord Chancellor, 1987-97. Mackay concealed the cesspit which was the alcoholic wife-beater Sir Nicholas Fairbain – who was most certainly a paedophiles’ friend and stood accused of child molesting himself – and his doings and was also responsible for the appointment of the paedophiles’ friend Baroness Patricia Scotland as the first black woman QC, the youngest QC since William Pitt, the most incredible QC that the world had ever yet experienced – see post ‘More On Baroness Patricia Scotland QC – And Her Very Sleazy Friends’ for the catalogue of horrors that can be traced back to the doors of Fairbain and Mackay.

On the Annan Committee along with this lot was Geoffrey Sims, Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield University, 1974-91.

Also on the Committee was Sir Marcus Worsley. Worsley went to Eton and New College, Oxford, along with so many others who concealed organised child abuse (see post ‘A Study In Tyranny’). He was a Councillor on Malton Rural District Council from 1955 and became Vice-Chairman in 1965. Worsley was Conservative MP for Keighley, 1959-64 and then for Chelsea, 1966-74. He was Second Church Estates Commissioner, 1970-74 and wielded great influence in the Church of England. In 1978 Worsley was Deputy Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, in 1982-83 he was High Sheriff for North Yorkshire and then Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, 1987-99.

So Worsley spent a great deal of time in the higher echelons of Yorkshire society during the years when organised child abuse and police corruption reigned supreme in the region. Sir Marcus undertook duties associated with the Royal Household whilst Yorkshire’s highest profile sex offender and friend of Prince Charles and Thatcher – Jimmy Savile – was in his heydey.

Worsley was PPS to Enoch Powell when Powell was Minister of Health – the Enoch Powell who was so shocked by what he witnessed on a visit to the North Wales Hospital Denbigh that he announced that he would close the place down, but was prevented from pursuing this aim by forces unknown (see post ‘The Creme de la Creme’). Worsley resigned as Powell’s PPS late in 1961, citing ‘pressure of work’. It was in 1961 that Powell made his famous ‘Water Towers’ speech in which he signalled that would close the asylums. During his years in Parliament, Worsley also served as PPS to Bill Deedes MP for Ashford (1950-74) who was Editor of the Tory Party’s in-house magazine ‘The Daily Telegraph’ and a friend of the Thatchers. Worsley served as PPS  for Willie Whitelaw when Whitelaw served his first term as Lord President of the Council under Ted Heath (1970-72) – the Willie who was mates with Ted Heath and who so loyally served the Tory Party during the many years that it kept the lid on various sex scandals, including Sir Peter Morrison’s activities with children (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’). Worsley had a ‘special interest’ in social services whilst he was a politician.

Worsley worked for the BBC European Service, 1950-53, which suggests that he had links to the security services.

Sir Marcus observed that he wasn’t able to impact on Chelsea whilst he was the MP there as he was able to impact on Yorkshire, where everybody knew each other and he was invited to lots of local gatherings. I suspect that this translates as he ran Yorkshire and was rather put out when found that he couldn’t do the same in Chelsea. There was absolutely no escaping the long arm of Sir Marcus in Yorkshire – he retained a ‘particular interest’ in York Minster and also had a finger in the big juicy pie that is the National Trust.

Sir Marcus’s sister Katherine became the Duchess of Kent and his wife Bridget led the sort of well-connected aristocratic existence that Baroness Jean Trumpington did, including doing the obligatory turn at the Queen Charlotte’s Ball and a stint at Bletchley Park as a ‘code-breaker’ (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’). Bridget and Trumpers will have known each other – Trumpers was bound to have sniffed her out, what with her being related to a Duchess.

There were two others involved in founding the Runnymede Trust along with Dipak Nandy – Jim Rose and Anthony Lester QC.

Jim Rose was yet another alumni of New College, Oxford and worked for the intelligence services during WWII, in the RAF and at Bletchley Park. Rose was a journalist with Reuters and was literary editor of ‘The Observer’, 1948-50. At this time, Waldorf Astor, yet another graduate of New College, Oxford – and husband of Nancy Astor and a friend of David Lloyd George -owned ‘The Observer’. In 1951 Rose moved to Zurich where he formed the International Press Institute, through which he got to know well virtually all the editors of the major newspapers and their senior journalists.

In 1962 Rose returned to England and was invited by Philip Mason, civil servant and Director of the Institute for Race Relations (1958-69), to become the Director of the Survey of Race Relations, a five year study of post-war immigration in Britain. This was published in 1969 as ‘Colour and Citizenship’ and in 1968 Rose co-founded the Runnymede Trust. Philip Mason was a member of the Athenaeum, of which Jimmy Savile was also a member – the Athenaeum is favoured by Top Doctors and academics.

Jim Rose was Educational Director of the Westminster Press Group, 1970-74 and then Chairman of Penguin Books until 1980.

The Runnymede Trust was able to get off the ground because Anthony Lester QC had a commitment of $5000 pa for three years from ‘a liberal East Coast Foundation’ – who this was I have not yet found out, but it’s odd that their name isn’t up in flashing neon in view of the influence and status of the Runnymede Trust – provided that this was matched by a British Foundation. Jim Rose persuaded the Rowntree Trust to take up the challenge.

Anthony Lester QC is a barrister and Liberal Democrat peer who was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge and Harvard. He was involved with drafting the race relations legislation in the 60s and 70s and was the Chairman of the sub-committee of the Campaign Against Racial Discrimination. Lester was a member of the: Society of Labour Lawyers; Fabian Society; Council of Race Relations; British Overseas Fellowship; National Committee for Commonwealth Immigrants. He was Chair of the Fabian Society, 1972-73 and Chair of the Runnymede Trust, 1991-93. Lester is Patron of the FPA (Family Planning Association) and a member of the Joint Committee on Human Rights. Lester was special advisor to Roy Jenkins at the Home Office in the 1970s – when Jenkins was concealing the paedophile gang  in north Wales in his capacity as Home Secretary (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I), although it’s obvious from Lester’s other affiliations that Roy was certainly not the only person known to Anthony Lester who was concealing child abuse or the associated abuses in the mental health services.

Anthony Lester was, along with Roy, as one of the founders of the SDP in 1981.

Lester was given his peerage in 1993. Once those five witnesses to the activities of the paedophile gang in north Wales were safely dead after the firebomb attack (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’), once Sir Peter Morrison had stepped down as MP for Chester, once Mary Wynch had been shafted by Michael Howard at the Home Office (see post ‘A Few Of The Relevant Politicians Re Mary Wynch’s Case’) and once the North Wales Police had satisfied themselves that there was not a paedophile ring in operation in north Wales. The North Wales Police who at the time employed Superintendent Gordon Anglesea who later went to prison for abusing children in care in his capacity as a member of the paedophile ring which did not exist.

In 2007 Lester acted as Jack Straw’s advisor when Straw was Secretary of State for Justice.

Lord Lester practices at Blackstones Chambers. His colleagues there include Michael Beloff QC. Michael Beloff is a friend of the Blairs and was the legal advisor who in 1996 ordered the insurers of Clwyd County Council which ran the ‘child protection’ services investigated by the Jillings Inquiry to withold from everyone (even the Councillors) – and then pulp – all copies of the Jillings Report on the grounds that what happened to the children was indefensible. The insurers were also told to tell the members of the Council who commissioned the Jillings investigation that if any of them did find out what was in the Report and they publicised it, the insurers would withdraw cover and the Councillors themselves would be personally liable if any former child in care sued – the Councillors were warned that they would lose their homes if this happened. The insurers also recommended that Malcolm King, the Chair of the Social Services Committee, be sacked if he continued to make a nuisance of himself bellyaching about child abuse. If any of the kids who had been beaten and repeatedly raped or buggered did try and sue after all this, they’d have difficulty – because within hours of the Jillings Report being submitted, Clwyd County Council was abolished and ceased to exist.

The insurance company which provided cover for Clwyd County Council also provided cover for the North Wales Police.

Michael Beloff’s father Max Beloff was the historian who some years previously had reviewed a book on local governance by Ioan Bowen Rees and described it as ‘essential reading’. Ioan Bowen Rees was Chief Executive of Gwynedd County Council whilst the paedophile ring shared with neighbouring Clwyd County Council raged within its Social Services Department and when Alison Taylor, the social worker who blew the whistle on the child abuse, was sacked.

Michael Beloff is also the President of Trinity College, Oxford and questions were asked years ago when he seemed to be admitting students with a not particularly impressive academic record but a great deal of money. Even more questions were asked when a student called Euan Blair decided that it would be a good idea to apply there, what with his mum being a good mate of the President. Something obviously backfired though because Euan went to Bristol University in the end, which was why Cherie ended up purchasing properties there with the help of the crook that was the boyfriend of her lifestyle guru Carol Caplin. I was delighted to see that when Cherie was forced to explain herself regarding this matter, she gave a tearful interview on TV concerning the difficulty of being a working woman ‘juggling’. I expect that Cherie believes that she’s better at multi-tasking than Tony because of her corpus callosum – after all she’ll have read all those articles in ‘Cosmopolitan’, in their ‘neurobiology for fuckwits’ series.

Trustees of the Runnymede upon its foundation included Lord Jock Campbell, Lord Edward Boyle and Archbishop Trevor Huddlestone.

Lord Jock Campbell was the first Chairman of the Runnymede Trust, 1968-80. Jock Campbell’s family owned sugar plantations in British Guiana and his great-great-grandfather was a slave owner. In 1934, after Eton and Oxford, Jock went to British Guiana to manage the family estates. He was sufficiently horrified by the working and living conditions that he witnessed to embark on a programme of reform. Many years later in the Lords in 1971 Jock Campbell dissociated himself from his ancestors.

However Jock did inherit a great deal of money from his family – dosh which could be traced back to that slave trade that his ancestors had been fully paid of adherents to – and he continued to receive a very generous income from the family’s interests in British Guiana. Jock was Chairman of the Commonwealth Sugar Exporters Association, 1950-84 and Chairman of Booker McConnell. He was Chairman of New Statesman and Nation and Chairman of the Milton Keynes Development Corporation, 1967-83. Jock was a member of the Fabian Society and in 1966 was given a peerage by Harold Wilson.

Jock Campbell was a friend of Ian Fleming who was related by marriage to Sir Charles Morrison, the older brother of Sir Peter Morrison. Before his death Fleming had a discussion with Jock regarding the ways of avoiding heavy taxation on his estate. Jock suggested that Bookers could act as bankers for Fleming to the benefit of both parties. Bookers acquired a 51% share of the profits of Goldmore Productions, the company handling the profits from Fleming’s books but not the film rights. Thus Bookers Authors Division was born, which later acquired the copyrights of other authors including Agatha Christie, Dennis Wheatley and Harold Pinter. The Booker Prize was launched in 1969 after publisher Jonathan Cape suggested that Bookers should sponsor a prize. So there are you are Radio 4, you’ll never be able to wax lyrical in a pretentious manner about Booker Prize winners again, it’s SLAVE TRADE MONEY at the root of it…

Lord Edward Boyle was the Conservative MP for Birmingham Handsworth, 1950-70 and was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Leeds University in 1970 when he stood down from Parliament. He received a peerage in the same year. Boyle was educated at Eton and Christ Church College, Oxford and worked at Bletchley Park. He was a Minister for Education, 1962-64. Boyle was a Trustee of the British Museum, 1970-81 and the Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals of UK Universities, 1977-79. It was noted in Boyle’s obituaries that he died ‘unmarried and childless’.

Archbishop Trevor Huddlestone was an English Anglican Bishop who was educated at Christ Church College, Oxford and Wells Theological College. Huddleston spent the 1940s in South Africa which is where he became involved with the anti-apartheid campaign. Huddlestone knew Archbishop Desmond Tutu when he was a boy and Tutu names Huddlestone as being a huge influence on him. Huddlestone also knew Hugh Masekala and was the person who gave him his first trumpet when he was 14. Huddlestone was close to Oliver Tambo, the President of the ANC between 1962 and 70, the years of exclusion. Huddlestone returned to the UK in 1956 and then between 1960-68 was Bishop of Masasi (in Tanzania). Between 1968-78 Huddlestone was Bishop of Stepney. In 1978 he became Bishop of Mauritius and later on in the same year he was appointed Archbishop of the Province of the Indian Ocean. He retired from episcopal office in 1983 but continued his anti-apartheid work – Huddlestone had become President of the Anti-Apartheid Movement in 1981. Huddlestone lived in Mirfield in West Yorkshire after his retirement – he had previously lived there as a young man.

In 1974 Huddlestone was questioned by the police regarding the sexual abuse of four boys who had been playing in Huddlestone’s office whose parents had reported Huddlestone to the police. The allegations were that Huddlestone had touched the boys indecently – Huddlestone didn’t deny his actions but stated that none of it was done with indecent intent. The police recommended charges of four counts of gross indecency. The matter was referred to the DPP Sir Norman Skelhorn, a man who had great difficulty prosecuting high profile people for child abuse no matter how overwhelming the evidence (see post ‘They Planned To Put Acid In All The Reservoirs’). Skelhorn decided not to charge Huddlestone after consulting senior figures in the Labour Party.

None of this was known to the public until the publication of Piers McGrandles biography of Huddleston in 2004 – McGrandles was part-time chaplain to Huddleston.  Desmond Tutu and Bishop Gerald Ellis (the Bishop of London whilst Huddlestone had been Bishop of Stepney) were greatly upset by the story and were convinced of Huddlestone’s innocence. Their explanation was that Huddlestone’s political enemies had set him up and that B.O.S.S., the South African Bureau of State Security, was behind it.

Huddlestone did have political enemies – Thatcher hated him, let alone B.O.S.S. and B.O.S.S. would do just about anything to their opponents, so it is possible that Huddlestone was smeared. However, as Normal Skelhorn demonstrated repeatedly, in the 1970s there was a huge reluctance to challenge yet alone prosecute ‘respectable’ men over allegations of child sexual abuse. If the police were recommending four charges of gross indecency, whatever Trevor Huddlestone was alleged to have done must have been quite serious and there was probably some very convincing evidence.

Jim Rose took over as Chairman of the Runnymede from Dipak Nandy and remained as Chairman until 1990, then Anthony Lester Chaired the Trust, 1991-93. Between 1993-98 Trevor Phillips was Chairman.

Trevor Phillips spent his childhood in north London and British Guyana and did a chemistry degree at Imperial College. Whilst at Imperial he was President of the Students Union and then became the first black President of the NUS, 1978-80, during the NUS’s Particularly Mad phase. Trevor’s associates at the NUS included future New Labour big wigs Charles Clarke and Peter Mandelson, both of whom know something about organised child abuse and wrongdoing in the NHS (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part IV’). Phillips worked with his mate Mandy again at LWT – Mandy was best man at Phillips’s first wedding in 1981. Phillips was a researcher and a reporter for LWT, 1980-86 and then Head of Current Affairs at LWT, 1992-94. Phillips wrote and produced ‘The London Programme’ for LWT and also worked on projects for the BBC and Channel 4. It was Phillips who gave Richard Littlejohn his first break in TV. Phillips established Pepper Productions, an independent TV production company from which he made a great deal of money. Through Mandy Trevor became friends with Blair and he joined the Labour Party in 1996.

Phillips was a Labour candidate for London Mayor but his plans in that direction fell apart when it was discovered that he had sent his daughters to very upmarket public schools – namely the North London Collegiate School and Westminster School. However the Labour Party did designate Trevor as a member of the London Assembly in 2000 – he was Chair of the Assembly until 2003, when he resigned his seat in order to take up the position of Chair of the CRE. The CRE was abolished in 2006 and replaced with the EHRC and Tevor was appointed Chair of that body – he remained Chair until 2012. A lot of people in the EHRC know a great deal about abuse and criminal activities involving vulnerable people. Ann Beynon who’s husband Leighton Andrews was at one point Minister for Public Service Delivery in the Welsh Gov’t – whilst criminal conduct went unhindered in the NHS in north Wales and when the social services and mental health services had been destroyed by those who had protected the paedophile gang fifteen years previously – was a member of the EHRC. So unbelievably was Rachel Perkins. Perkins is a clinical psychologist who was clinical director of Springfield Hospital, the psychiatric unit attached to St George’s Hospital Medical School and who then sat on the Board of the St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Whilst Perkins was clinical director of Springfield, staff there concealed child abuse and associated serious criminal activity, a number of patients were sexually assaulted and even murdered and at least one member of staff was murdered as well. A subsequent public inquiry condemned Springfield and suggested that the problems were such that the hospital was probably irretrievable. Whilst she was clinical director, Perkins ran a work scheme for ‘service users’ – one placement was found for one young woman as a pole dancer. Perkins herself is of course a lesbian feminist – the last place she will be working is in a strip joint. But then she doesn’t have to – she sat on the EHRC as a consequence of her ‘lived experience’ as a service user.

Trevor might be a black man – but more importantly very rich and a friend of Tony Blair and Mandy – but Rachel really claimed the street cred when she metamorphosed into a service user. Rachel had suffered from depression for many years and had taken a great deal of time off work – although she managed to write books about her Great Suffering whilst she was not going to work. Of course if Rachel really had been clinically depressed it is entirely understandable that she would need time off. But Perkins claimed to be so ill that she was literally never there  – but she remained as clinical director. Whilst people murdered each other. Rachel did finally step aside – I suspect it was the dreadful press coverage re Springfield that was behind that particular decision rather than Rachel’s putative poor health – and popped up on the Board of St George’s as the service user representative! I haven’t read much of Rachel’s work, but I’m wondering that if I did whether I might recognise some of it from other places. Because just before Rachel was appointed to the EHRC, I recognised part of something that Brown and I had published in an article that dear old Rachel had written. Feel free to reproduce this blog Rachel, I’ll be delighted.

Trevor’s time as Chair of the EHRC was not a smooth ride. Six commissioners walked out after expressing concern about his leadership and probity. Perhaps that’s how Rachel got in there.

In 2007 Trevor was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honnuer after he made a few comments following the race riots in France in 2005 that caused Sarkozy to insult black people who lived in the banlieue in Paris.

In 2010 Phillips was investigated concerning his attempts to influence the Joint Committee of Human Rights – a Parliamentary Select Committee – whilst they were writing a report on him. A Lords Committee cleared him of the allegations that had been levelled against him but described his behaviour as ‘inappropriate and ill-advised’.

Trevor Phillips is a Vice-President of the Royal Television Society – the RTS whose manager Tony Pilgrim remarked that it was a pity that one of their employees who was known to be a paedophile had been caught molesting a 10 year old boy and the RTS who employed manager Claire Price. The lovely Claire harassed and then unlawfully dismissed a close friend of mine who knew what happened to me in north Wales and wanted to make a documentary about it. The President of the RTS at the time was Sir Paul Fox, who was very anti-union and presumably a keen Thatcherite (see ‘Their Trade Is Fuckwittery’).

Among other things Trevor Phillips is: Deputy Chair of the Board of National Equality Standard; Chair of Green Park Diversity Analytics; Director of WebberPhillips; Director of Pepper Productions; member of the Board at the Barbican Arts Centre; member of the Council of Aldeburgh Music; Trustee of the Social Mobility Foundation. At present Trevor is President of the Partnership Council of the John Lewis Partnership.

For 28 years Trevor was married to Asha Bhownagary, a child psychotherapist. Asha trained at the Tavistock Clinic and has worked for education and social services, in a hospital paediatrics department and in a special care baby unit. She has a private practice and lectures at the Tavistock. I suspect that Trevor knows a great deal about the abuse of vulnerable people but Asha will know so much that she’ll be in a position to give evidence in Court. But they will of course both remain completely silent on such matters.

Lady Diana Brittan was Chair of the Runnymede Trust 1998-99. Diana is the widow of Leon Brittan, former Home Secretary and the man who was investigated by Operation Midland for sex offences. It was reported earlier this year that Lady Diana had received approx £100k in compensation – which was accompanied by a confidentiality clause – from the Metropolitan Police for them daring to investigate Leon. Thatcher appointed Leon as Minister of State at the Home Office in 1979 under Willie Whitelaw and then in 1983 Leon became Home Secretary himself. Whilst Leon was Home Secretary organised child abuse was concealed, the dossier naming Westminster figures who were allegedly molesting children  that was given to Leon by Geoffrey Dickens MP was ‘lost’, the police abused their powers repeatedly but action was never taken against them – there was a feeling that the police had become a private army of Thatcher’s Gov’t (see post ‘A Few Of The Relevant Politicians Re Mary Wynch’s Case’). Just about everything that was the responsibility of the Home Office was riddled with corruption under dear old Leon. Whilst Leon was Home Secretary the Home Office gave funding to PIE. Leon left the Cabinet as a result of the scrap over Westland and it has been alleged that he was the fall guy to prevent it being exposed that Thatcher had lied – Leon was given a job as a European Commissioner as compensation. Leon has been named repeatedly as a child abuser himself which is partly what caused him to come to the attention of Operation Midland – that and the allegation from a woman that he had raped her many years ago.

In 2002 ‘The Independent’ ran a toadying article about Diana, identifying her as a ‘new-style Tory wife’, explaining that she was actually very similar to Tony Blair: ‘She’s just where Tony is, she doesn’t act as a result of a traditional, party political, ideological perspective, but from a moral perspective. She does something because its the right thing to do.’ We all know how moral Tony is and how he had a penchant for doing the right thing. He was after all a pretty straight kind of guy – which will be why he lied to Parliament, was mates with Berlusconi and now acts as an advisor to various dictators and kleptocrats.

The Indie was writing about Diana because she had had an upsetting experience. In her capacity as Chair of the National Lottery Community Fund Diana had OK’d grants to what ‘The Daily Mail’ had described as ‘bizarre and politically correct’ causes and ‘The Daily Mail’ had unleashed a ‘hate campaign’ against her. Paul Dacre had become vexed that Diana had given her blessing to grants to a gay choir and an organisation breeding Andean guinea pigs, but the last straw for Dacre was the funding of an organisation helping unsuccessful asylum seekers fighting deportation. The hate campaign was unleashed – the Mail urged readers to WRITE TO DIANA’S OFFICE. That is what poor old Diana was having to deal with, which is what prompted the Indie to describe her as a ‘brave woman with a moral sense of what is right’.

Diana the Brave and Moral has had her fingers in many pies. She sat as a magistrate on the City of London bench from 1984 – whilst she was married to the Home Secretary whilst the police did what they like including amending statements in order to fit people up – and was appointed a member of the EOC in 1989 and then its Deputy Chair, 1994-96. Diana became Deputy Chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in 1990 – whilst IVF clinics lied to their patients and generally fleeced them (see post ‘Every Sperm Is Sacred – Particularly In Scotland’). She was Chair of the Race in Europe Network, Chair of the European Union of Women, Chair of the OU Foundation and a member of the Lord Chancellor’s advisory committee on legal education and conduct.  The Indie mentions that Diana is a ‘committee person’ because those are the people who get things done and that the world of committees like people with good networks. Perhaps such as people who are married to other people who concealed serious crime for years and then popped over to Brussels to help out. I expect that Diana has had Dominique Strauss-Kahn to dinner – a delightful man…and Christine Lagarde as well, Christine who Woman’s Hour really loved and put on their Power List. The Christine who was found guilty of ‘negligence’ by the French courts regarding that business of the 403 million euros ‘arbitration’ in favour of Bernard Tapie and would have gone to prison except that she was MD of the IMF and you’re not allowed to put them in prison.

Between 1977-89 Diana was the managing editor of a ‘technical press agency’ – I wonder what sort of sins were involved there. Being the brave moral woman that she is, she ‘advised’ Jonathan Aitken after he was found guilty of perjury and was facing prison.

Diana is involved with the Carnegie UK Trust.

Diana and Leon kept a home in London where they troughed with the rich n famous, but they also had a home in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, what with Leon being the MP for Richmond. The North Yorkshire which was the centre of a paedophile ring. William Hague succeeded Leon’s seat in Richmond, became Secretary of State for Wales despite all that boasting about being a Yorkshireman through and through and having shown bugger all interest in Wales. Upon his appointment he organised the cover-up into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal which was the Waterhouse Inquiry. When William was running for the Tory Party leadership he found himself in urgent need of a wife – the Tories were expressing great concern that he was ‘single’, which seemed a little inconsistent in so far as they had no problem with Sir Peter Morrison attending sex parties with under-aged boys from children’s homes in north Wales. Fortunately for William a suitable woman arrived as if to order – Ffion, who had been a senior civil servant in the Welsh Office whilst it concealed criminal conduct in the children’s services and mental health services in north Wales. Love blossomed, although Thatcher was disgusted that Ffion and William shared an hotel room before they were married. I have just purchased a copy of Thatch’s autobiography ‘The Downing Street Years’ – I’ve only read the foreword and introduction so far but I’ve noticed that Peter Morrison is one of those thanked by Thatch in the book. I’m looking forward to reading Thatch’s fond reminiscences re her old mate Jimmy Savile.

Following Diana’s brief stint at the Runnymede, Samir Shah was Chair of the Runnymede Trust until 2009. Samir is a media executive who certainly ticks all the boxes. He was a student at St Catherine’s College, Oxford in the 1970s as were Mandelson and others known to this blog (see post ‘A Study In Tyranny). In 1977 Samir worked for the Intelligence Unit at the Home Office whilst Merlyn Rees was Home Secretary busy concealing criminal activity in north Wales, so he’ll have found out a few interesting things and made a few contacts there (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’). Then in 1979 he joined Mandy and the gang at LWT where he was a researcher and a producer on Eastern Eye, Credo, Weekend World and The London Programme. In 1987 Samir was appointed head of BBC’s TV current affairs and in 1994 he was appointed head of BBC’s Political Programmes, TV and Radio. In 1998 became Chief Exec of Juniper, an independent production company.

Shah was a Trustee for the Medical Foundation of the Victims of Torture, 2004-06 – who I seem to remember a few years ago were found to be harbouring a Top Doctor who had played a key role in the Rwandan Genocide. He was the former Chair of Screen West Midlands and  was a non-executive Director of the BBC Board, 2007-10. Shah is on the Board of BAFTA, is or was Deputy Chair at the V&A Museum and in 2014 was appointed Chair of the Geffrye Museum. He is a visiting Prof at Nottingham University and sits on the advisory panel on Oxford University’s Humanities Division. Samir was also on the Advisory Group of the dear old Royal Television Society’s Cambridge Convention in 2015.

Samir Shah was followed as Chair of the Runnymede by Chris Jones who is at present still in post. Chris Jones is another broadcaster and media executive…

So those are the Chairs of the Runnymede Trust. What about the Directors? Well obviously Dipak Nandy was in place until 1973, but then he handed over the reigns to others. The Runnymede has had a few Directors with CV’s and networks as interesting as Dipak.

Usha Prashar was Director, 1977-84. Usha was born in Kenya but came to the UK – Yorkshire – with her family in the 1960s. She went to the independent Wakefield Girls School and then Leeds University, graduating in 1970. A post-graduate course in Social Administration at Glasgow University followed. Directing the Runnymede Trust certainly launched Usha into the action. She was a Fellow of the Policy Studies Institute – a think tank which later merged with Westminster University – between 1984-86 and was then appointed as Director of NCVO – the umbrella organisation for so many charitable organisations concealing serious wrongdoing. Usha was non-executive Chair of the Parole Board, 1997-2000. That was when the Parole Board appointed Colin Berry, David Mawson and Chris Hunter – three Top Doctors who concealed the abuses of psychiatry and the associated paedophile gang in north Wales – as members, as well as a number of other very questionable people.

Usha was appointed a Civil Service Commissioner in 1990 and was First Civil Service Commissioner, 2000-2005. She was a non-executive director of Channel 4, 1992-99 and a non-executive director of UNITE Group plc, 2001-04. UNITE Group plc is ‘the UK’s leading manager and developer of student accommodation’. So they’ll be the ones who built those extravagantly luxurious apartments which were ruthlessly marketed to students including those who couldn’t afford them and ended up in financial trouble. Never mind the quality of your courses, just look at the accommodation that you’ll live in if you come to study here… Usha became a Governor of De Montfort University in 1996 and was Chancellor, 2001-2006. In recent years after the arrival of a new Vice-Chancellor, DMU has became a much happier less dysfunctional place. Whilst Usha was on board however a lot of very odd things went on at DMU and a number of recent graduates ended up in scandals, including a social worker who was caught illegally smuggling a baby into the UK which she had purchased in Africa. The staff at the time kept flagging up that things were unravelling on the ground, but they were ignored.

Usha was also appointed a Trustee of the BBC World Service Trust in 2002 and a non-executive Director of ITV plc in 2005. She is or was President of the Royal Commonwealth Society and Deputy Chair of the British Council. She was Chair of the National Literacy Trust, 2001-05.

Usha served on the Hutton Inquiry into Iraq. The inquiry into the conduct of Usha’s friend Tony Blair who had given Baroness Usha her peerage in 1999.

Usha is a Trustee of Cumberland Lodge, ‘an educational charity initiating fresh debate on the burning questions facing society’. The website of  Cumberland Lodge has no sign of anything educational or anything remotely fresh, although the slogan ‘creative thinking and inclusive dialogue’ is emblazoned across the site – but they do hold their meetings in a lovely castle and there’s plenty of photos of that. The castle in question is Windsor Castle. That’s so inclusive that I might drop into a meeting of Cumberland Lodge myself.

The intellectual powerhouse that is Usha is also a Governor of the Ditchley Foundation, which was established to ‘promote international understanding and relations, especially Anglo-American’. The Ditchley Foundation was founded in 1958 by Sir David Wills, a descendant of W.D. and H.O. Wills, the tobacco barons. It is based in Ditchley Park, another splendid building for Usha to do her thinking in, near Chipping Norton. So Rebekah Brooks and Cameron are just down the road then.

The Chair of the Ditchley Foundation is Lord George Robertson, Secretary of State for Defence under Blair, 1997-99 and then NATO General Secretary, 1999-2003. That went well then. The Chairman of the Ditchley Foundation between 2000-09 was Sir John Major, former PM, one time bedfellow of Edwina Currie and the protector of the paedophiles of north Wales via the vehicle of William Hague.

The Director of the Ditchley Foundation from 2010-16 was Sir John Holmes, a former diplomat who also held a senior role with the UN. Sir John was Principal Private Secretary to Blair whilst Blair was PM and he was also involved in the N Ireland peace talks – in which whatever happened at the Kincora Boys Home was used as a negotiating tool. Sir John Holmes has just been appointed Chair of the Electoral Commission.

The Director of the Ditchley Foundation, 1999-04 was Sir Nigel Broomfield, a former diplomat who was Chairman of Leonard Cheshire Disability, 2004-09.

Virtually all the Directors are of this ilk – former diplomats who have done a stint with the UN and who often have links to defence officials.

What about Usha’s fellow Governors at the Ditchley Foundation? Here are the names of some of them:

Lord Adonis, David Cameron, Margaret Beckett, Virginia Bottomley, Lord Carrington, Robin Butler, Shami Chakrabarty, Menzies Campbell, David Hunt, Geoffrey Howe, Neil Kinnock, David Miliband, Pauline Neville-Jones, Malcolm Rifkind, Jack Straw, Shirley Williams, Peter Jay, Paul Boateng.

There is only one question to be asked – WHERE IS DR DEATH?

Ann Dummett was Director of the Runnymede between 1984-87. Ann went to Somerville College and was married to the philosopher Sir Michael Dummett. Ann and Michael were high profile anti-racism campaigners and along with the MP for Oxford Evan Luard founded the Oxford Committee for Racial Integration (previously the Oxfordshire Council for Community Relations). Ann then worked at the Institute for Race Relations and for the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants.

Michael Dummett was Wykeham Professor of Logic at Oxford, 1979-82 and whilst he held that position was also a Fellow of New College – where else? Dummett also held teaching posts at Birmingham University, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, Princeton University and Harvard University. In 1944 Dummet converted to Catholicism and enthusiastically engaged in Catholic debates.

Evan Luard, the MP with whom the Dummetts campaigned and worked, was a graduate of Kings College, Cambridge. In 1950 he joined the Foreign Service but resigned in 1956, in protests at Britain’s involvement in the Suez Crisis. He became a research fellow at St Antony’s College, Oxford in 1957 and was a Labour Councillor on Oxford County Council, 1958-61. Luard then served as Labour MP for Oxford, 1966-70 and again, 1974-79. He was Parliamentary Under-Secretary for State in the Foreign Office, 1969-70 under Foreign Secretary Michael Stewart and again, 1974-79 – under dear old Dr Death.

Evan Luard was sufficiently attached to Dr Death to follow him into the SDP shortly after Shirl et al founded it in 1981. Luard contested the 1983 General Election for as the SDP candidate – he was deselected in 1987 in favour of Chris Huhne, but I haven’t found out why.

The Rev Ken Leech was the Director who followed Ann Dummett – Ken Leech was Director until 1991. The Rev Ken was an Anglican priest and a Christian Socialist who was born and grew up in the Cheshire/Lancashire area. He was inspired in 1956 after he heard Trevor Huddlestone speak.

In 1958 Ken moved to the East End of London where he lived whilst he studied at Kings College, London. In 1961 he began his theological studies at Trintiy College, Oxford whilst at the same time training for the priesthood at St Stephen’s House. He was ordained in 1965. He then spent many years working in some of the poorest parishes in London, in places like Hoxton (1965-67), Soho (1967-71) and Bethnal Green (1974-79). The Rev Ken took a special interest in drug addicts, prostitutes and homeless young people. In 1967 he set up the Soho Drugs Group. It was Ken who in 1969 – along with Anton-Wallich-Clifford and the Simon Community – established Centrepoint, which dealt with youth homelessness. Centrepoint’s first Patron was Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Rev Ken spent most of the years between 1965 and 2004 working on the ground  with the very people who would have been witnesses to the abuse of kids in care and the trafficking of them into prostitution and the involvement that some Westminster figures had in this, as well as the collusion on the part of the mental health services, the police and the legal and criminal justice system. There is no way that the Rev Ken did not know about this. Anyone who listens to homeless young people, care leavers, drug addicts, prostitutes and mental health patients finds out about it. I did and my CV is not half as good as Ken’s in that respect. Just on one occasion, in London in 1987, Brown and me stopped to help a young homeless man who had been taken ill in a subway after going overboard sniffing glue. Because we stopped to help we were within minutes surrounded by his mates and his girlfriend – they were kids in care who had run away, some of them from Swansea. We found out about it after one brief stop to help their friend. If you help people having a hard time, you do find out what is happening to them, it is dishonest for people who work with those folk to claim that they ‘didn’t know’. The Rev Ken will have almost certainly been given the names of the members of the Westminster Paedophile Ring – repeatedly. Furthermore in Hoxton 1965-67 the Krays and their notorious mum were still living in Vallance Road, Ken will have been their neighbour – I’m sure that he noticed.

Ken’s obituaries tell us that he fought against the NF and other racist and fascist groups in the East End, that he campaigned for CND, for gender equality, for gay and lesbian rights. But Ken never opened his mouth about the organised sexual abuse of kids in care, the associated criminality in swathes of ‘respectable’ society – or about sexual abuse within the Church. But then if he had have done this, he wouldn’t have become Director of the Runnymede Trust. Or started up the Jubilee Group with Rowan Williams. Or sat on the Church of England’s Board of Social Responsibility. Or indeed have persuaded Diana to become Patron of Centrepoint. Neither would his ventures have received funding.

Sukhvinder Kaur-Stubbs was Director of the Runnymede, 1996-2000. Sukhvinder had all the ingredients for success as measured by ‘The Guardian’ – she was a Punjabi girl who grew up in Birmingham after her dad arrived in the UK with only a few fivers in his pocket, who got into Oxford and then learned the disciplines of management, marketing, budgeting and PR in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Obviously at the age of 33 it was inevitable that Sukhvinder would be appointed as Director of the Runnymede and that ‘The Guardian’ would write a profile which obsessed about the colour of her silk blouse, her jewellery and her ‘power hairstyle’ (which sounds like the sort of thing that Hillary Clinton probably has).

After four years at the Runnymede Trust, Sukhvinder became CEO of the Barrow Cadbury Trust, but she left there in a hurry in 2009 on the grounds that she wanted to spend more time with her adopted daughter. It was probably very much more preferable than working in what the Third Sector has now become.

Sukhvinder was/is also a member of the Council at Birmingham University, Chairwoman of the European Network Against Racism, a non-executive Director of Severn Trent, a member of the Board of the Black Country Development Corporation and of Advantage West Midlands, as well as a Director of the Home Group Ltd.

Sukhvinder is a Director at Swan Housing Group and Chair of the Social Care Institute for Excellence. I have laughed at the Social Care Institute for Excellence and taken its name in vain for years because it was one of the key vehicles that promoted the idea of ‘service user involvement’ in mental health. Whilst service users were mistreated, abused, unlawfully denied treatment, fitted up for crimes that they had not committed and died, whilst no complaints about anything anywhere were ever investigated properly, the SCIE continued publishing laughable guides to service user involvement. The guides aimed at service users themselves contained illustrations of cartoon-like characters sitting around in meetings – there was always an Asian lady among them – with think or speech balloons saying things like ‘what if I don’t feel comfortable?’ or ‘should I ask my social worker about this?’ and a few lines about how as a service user you were now empowered. As the media gradually moves towards a tiny bit of honesty regarding the state of social care in the UK, I think that we should now be asking where the fucking excellence ever was, why the SCIE were allowed to publish lies for so many years, who established that organisation and who footed the bill for the mountains of crap which emanated from it. Perhaps Professor Peter Beresford could enlighten us.

Recently Sukhvinder has become a non-executive Director of the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, an organisation recently created out of other NHS organisations – I suspect because the previous organisations were scandal ridden and bankrupt, so a rebranding exercise was needed. Sukhvinder’s colleagues on the Trust Board are the regulation collection of Angels who have undertaken MBAs and moved into management, managers and social workers previously affiliated to organisations where the most terrible disasters and scandals have occurred, accountants and former employees of the Dept of Health.

So that’s an account of a few free radicals, some of whom should not be free at all after their role in colluding with some of the most serious child abusers that have operated in the UK.

He Knows Where The Bodies Are Buried

My post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’ named a number of those close to Jeremy Thorpe as well as a few others who weren’t necessarily very fond of him but who concealed his wrongdoing, even that which was involved with allegedly trying to have his former gay lover Norman Scott assassinated. I mentioned that I suspected that some of those who covered for Jeremy were the same people who probably covered for Dafydd and Gwynne when they were younger. I’ve been doing a bit more research – it looks as though my suspicions were correct. Those around Jeremy had some very close links to members of the shithouse already named on this blog. So here’s a few details.

The Top Doctor at St George’s Hospital who treated Norman, Dr Brian O’Connell, will have been a key player – I covered him and his network in my post ‘The Case Of The King’s Sperm’. But many more people and networks supported and protected Jeremy.

Not a word appeared in the media about Thorpe’s activities until Andrew Newton, the man who maintained at Thorpe’s trial that he had been hired to kill Norman, shot Norman’s Great Dane Rinka dead on Exmoor and then tried to murder Norman. Yet Jeremy’s activities with Norman as well as others were widely known and discussed.

As described in ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’, some builders carrying out work on the former office of Jeremy’s friend Peter Bessell discovered a briefcase concealed in a false ceiling. The briefcase was full of incriminating material relating to Jeremy, including documents concerning Norman. The builders took it to the Sunday Mirror. Not only did the Sunday Mirror not publish a word but the Editor Bob Edwards personally returned the documents to Jeremy at Westminster.

Bob Edwards edited the Sunday Mirror between 1972-84. He knew how to keep powerful people onside.

Edwards joined the Labour Party when he was young and knew Ian Mikardo when Mikardo was the Labour MP for Reading. Mikardo alerted Edwards to a vacancy on Tribune and sent him along to meet the Editor, Michael Foot. Edwards edited Tribune between 1951-54. He then became the leader writer for the Evening Standard 1954-57. In 1955 Edwards stood as the Labour candidate for Merton and Morden. He became the Deputy Editor of the Sunday Express 1957-59, the Managing Editor of the Sunday Express 1959-61 and the Editor of the Daily Express in 1961.

Edwards’s move from working on the left-supporting Tribune to the Express prompted accusations that he was no more than a paid hack without principles. Edwards was sacked from the Express and (mistakenly) believing that his son was worried about him reassured his son by telling him that a ‘mysterious freemasonry’ existed known as the Editors Club and that famille Edwards wouldn’t even lose their yacht because he would soon get another job.

Edwards purchased Christine Keeler’s memoirs for 2k in 1963 – but not material relating to Jeremy some ten years later…

Between 1966-72, Edwards edited the People. By this time he was seriously wealthy and was living in a castle in Oxfordshire.

In the case of the People, Edwards ‘inherited a fiercely campaigning newspaper…[which] largely cleaned up the protection rackets and brothels of Soho’. It is claimed that under Edwards the People ‘continued in much the same spirit, exposing bent detectives on the take from pornographers and ‘vice-kings’.

Edwards was considered a fearless man who had crossed so many nasty characters that he worked behind bullet proof glass after alleged threats to his life.

Although Edwards wouldn’t touch Jeremy Thorpe, in 1980 he had a go at the Royal Family. He discovered that the Royal Train with Charles on board had been shunted into a siding in Wiltshire where it stayed for several hours – whilst a young woman called Diana Spencer boarded it to spend time with Prince Charles… Edwards published the story and later maintained that it cost him a knighthood.

Edwards was Director of Mirror Group Newspapers 1976-88. Maxwell acquired the Mirror Group in July 1984 and under him Edwards became Deputy Chair.

Joe Haines, Harold Wilson’s Press Secretary who maintained that it wasn’t known whether Wilson had blackmailed Thorpe over Norman, also worked for Maxwell. Haines was a Mirror journalist who was initially completely hostile to Maxwell when Maxwell acquired the Mirror Group, but soon came under his influence and ended up writing the authorised biography of Maxwell.

Edwards wasn’t the only person involved with the Sunday Mirror who wielded influence at the time that the documents discovered by the builders were returned to Jeremy. The Chairman of IPC, the company which owned the Mirror at that time, was Sydney Jacobson. He was made a life peer a couple of years or so after Jeremy’s documents were returned to him. In 1974 – when the Mirror supported Labour in the General Election and at about the time that the documents were given to the Sunday Mirror – Jacobson was the Deputy Chair of IPC, working under his friend and colleague Hugh Cudlipp.

Cudlipp was Welsh, from Cardiff and was Chair of Mirror Group Newspapers between 1963-67. Cudlipp was given a peerage in 1974.

Cudlipp was a very big figure and in 2005 dear old Michael Grade – who excels at grovelling to powerful people – stated in a lecture that Cudlipp was ‘one of the giants of British journalism and one of it’s greatest editors’.

After Thorpe resigned following the media reporting the whole dreadful mess including Andrew Newton killing Norman Scott’s dog, then trying to shoot Norman and subsequently being charged with possession of a firearm with intent to danger life, Sir Harold Evans, the Editor of the Sunday Times, showed a considerable degree of sympathy towards Jeremy, met him and subsequently published supportive articles.

Evans edited the Sunday Times between 1967-81. In 1984 he moved to the US. Since 2005 he has contributed to the Guardian and Radio 4 and in 2011 he was appointed Editor at large of Rueters.

Like Edwards, Harold Evans was considered a fearless journalist who was not afraid to expose the truth. He was responsible for the crusading style of investigative journalism for which the Sunday Times was known at one point and it was under his editorship that Marjorie Wallace – see previous blog posts for the dirt on Marjorie and the horrors of psychiatry and child abuse that she kept her mouth firmly shut about – revealed the Thalidomide scandal. It was also Harold Evans who exposed Kim Philby.

In 1981 when Murdoch acquired Times Newspapers Ltd, Evans was appointed as Editor of the Times. He only stayed for one year. Fifty journalists resigned within the first six months of Murdoch’s take-over – some of those journos disliked Evans. In March 1982 a group of journos called upon Evans to resign as a result of the ‘erosion of editorial standards’.

In 1981 Evans married yet another journalist who was constructed as scary and fearless – Tina Brown. I’ve always just considered Tina Brown to be someone who writes vacuous rubbish about Diana and other celebs, but I’ve discovered that when she was younger Brown did write intelligent material and she knew some capable people who also wrote intelligent material critiquing powerful vested interests.

So no-one among this network of journos who would take on anyone and any topic, who rooted out injustice and who struck fear into the heart of everyone ever challenged Jeremy…

‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’ described how two BBC reporters who began researching for a book about the Jeremy and Norman story after everything became public and Jeremy had stood down as leader, were ‘supported’ in this by Sir Charles Curran, the Director-General of the BBC between 1969-77. However the reporters then found that they were issued with new contracts from the BBC that ensured that they would lose control over their own material. They resigned from the BBC as a result.

Charles Curran was someone whom it seems could be pressurised. After complaints from Mary Whitehouse that Dr Who contained far too much sex n violence or something similar, Curran replaced the series producer in 1976. The BBC online site ‘History of the BBC’ aka Pravda, profiles Charles Curran and boasts about his Huge Contribution to the Golden Years of TV. I remember that Golden Age well – utter rubbish, ‘light entertainment’ involving sitcoms dependent upon crude stereotyping. I think that Curran must have been responsible for ‘It Ain’t Half Racist Mum’ actually, but that’s not mentioned on ‘The History of the BBC’, probably because it’s indefensible. What is boasted about however is Curran’s tenure overseeing ‘Parkinson’. So Curran was the person who thought that Parkinson’s crude sexual harassment of the young Helen Mirren was OK – Helen obviously thought that Parkinson was a sad old git but was far too polite to knee him in the groin, although that episode still became infamous.

‘The History of the BBC’ also intriguingly tells us that Curran was ‘somewhat in the shadow of Huw Wheldon’. So Huw Wheldon who – as detailed in the comments after ‘Wheels Within Wheels Or Flies Drawn To The Same Incestuously Corrupt Shithouse?’ – had a hotline to the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales, was obviously Mr Big at the BBC.

Jeremy Thorpe was a member of two London clubs, the Reform Club and the National Liberal Club. Thorpe spent a lot of time in these places and was obviously not unwelcome.

Charles and Camilla are honorary members of the Reform Club and in 2011 guest speakers there included Nick Clegg and Theresa May. Members include: Ruth Lea, Martin Sorrell, Stella Rimmington, Charlie Falconer, Menzies Campbell, former Tory MP Michael Brown, Betty Boothroyd, Roy Hattersley and Michael Howard.

The National Liberal Club’s current President is Alan Beith, a man who was much mentioned in Michael Bloch’s biography of Thorpe. In the 1970s Cyril Smith actually lived at the National Liberal Club. David Belloti, the MP who tried to help Mary Wynch and who within two years of doing so was finished in national politics, was a member of the Club. In 2006, Chris Huhne – the Liberal MP who was later jailed, along with his former wife Vicky Pryce and her mate the barrister Constance Briscoe – launched his leadership campaign from the club, as did Nick Clegg in 2007. The Club played a crucial part in Thorpe’s own election campaign in 1974, by which time the scandal involving him and Norman was common knowledge among the Liberal Party as well as their political opponents, as were the fears that Norman and his friends had for his life.

Presumably Thorpe held a key position in the National Liberal Club, because it was Thorpe who in 1976 handed the Club over to be managed by George Marks, a Canadian ‘businessman’ who was in reality a confidence trickster – he also used the name George de Chabris. Thorpe maintained that he knew nothing about Chabris being dodgy. Chabris and his family lived rent free at the Club, he ran fraudulent businesses from there, he embezzled and fleeced thousands from the Club and flogged the Club’s library to Bristol University at a knock-down price. Chabris was given the boot in 1977 and the Club was rescued by a generous donor.

From a young age Thorpe was good friends with Jeremy Fry, a member of the famous chocolate-making family – it was Fry’s conviction for ‘importuning for immoral purposes’ that prompted an investigation by the police into Thorpe’s suitability for a role at the wedding of Princess Margaret. Fry had been considered for the role of best man but that idea went out of the window after his conviction. Fry’s excesses were well-known but there seems to have been a great deal of hypocrisy over the business of banning him from the Royal Wedding. He was on such good terms with Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones that there were allegations of a menage a trois. Fry continued his friendship with the Royal couple after his own marriage and Princess Margaret and Armstrong-Jones stayed at the Fry’s house near Bath.

In recent years the biological father of Polly Fry, Jeremy’s daughter, has been revealed to be Armstrong-Jones aka Lord Snowdon. Like the Jeremys Fry and Thorpe, it is now admitted that Lord Snowdon put himself about a bit. He was bisexual and fathered Polly shortly before he married Princess Margaret. Marjorie Wallace was one of Snowdon’s mistresses (see post ‘One Dangerous Fucker’). Now that both Princess Margaret and Snowdon are dead, more and more is being revealed about the boozing, the drugs and the shagging and I suspect that there is yet more to come. I cannot help noticing how often people very close to Lord Snowdon have popped up among people who had connections to or concealed the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal/Paedophile Ring and the associated wrongdoing in the mental health services. It took me a while to realise the significance of this because I never thought that Snowdon had much to do with north Wales. In recent years he didn’t. But when he was younger he did. Snowdon was born in Belgravia but the family also had a country house in north Wales. Snowdon’s father was a barrister, his paternal grandfather was a psychiatrist and physician and his paternal grandmother was the daughter of Sir Owen Roberts, the famous Welsh educationalist. Snowdon used to visit north Wales with Princess Margaret and interestingly enough although he died in London, he is buried at Llanfaglan near Caernarfon in the family plot of the ‘celebrities graveyard’.

During my battles with Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends, again and again people sympathetic to – but feaful for – me mentioned ‘very powerful people’ having connections with Dafydd. Other people seemed to be grossly affronted by me having the temerity to ask questions. The dreadful Dr Cathy Wilson at St George’s once yelled intriguingly at me that I needed to understand about ‘important people’. I now know that St George’s knew all about Dafydd et al and were also involved in concealing their wrongdoing. My post ‘I Want Serious Money Now Please’ explained how the Duke of Westminster knew about Sir Peter Morrison abusing under-aged boys. Morrison preyed on boys in care in north Wales. ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’ detailed the links between the Duke of Westminster and St George’s Hospital.

Snowdon was bisexual, promiscuous, had strong connections to north Wales and indeed Top Doctors and lawyers in north Wales, visited the region and was directly connected to the Royal Family. As the years pass, it becomes increasingly obvious that much about the activities of Princess Margaret and Snowdon were actively concealed. Are you thinking what I’m thinking as Michael Howard used to ask.

As for ‘important people’ – I am not a vacuous social climber and the difference between Cathy Wilson and me is that although I really don’t mind with whom Lord Snowdon and others like him had sex and took drugs if everyone involved was consenting adults, Dafydd et al were facilitating and concealing the abuse of kids in care. Many of whom were found dead, as were other witnesses. As very nearly was Norman Scott. It’s not very nice is it Wilson, even if you do think that the people involved are worth toadying to. Is it really worth colluding with such matters just to get oneself invited to yet another dinner party? Were you perhaps hoping to hit the jackpot and receive an invite to the Athenaeum to join Marjorie, Snowdon and Savile?

Jeremy Fry is also noted for having been James Dyson’s mentor and is credited with being responsible for Dyson starting out on his own.

Even after the rest of the Liberal Party finally decided that Jeremy Thorpe had become far too embarrassing to be seen with in public, Thorpe remained good friends with Clement Freud. Eric Lubbock (Lord Avebury) and David Steel remained supportive of Thorpe long after everyone else had given up on him, although even Steel wanted him to go after Andrew Newton tried to kill Norman.

Clement Freud has in recent years been revealed to have been a sexual predator who raped at least one person and molested many other girls and young women.

Eric Lubbock was the Liberal MP for Orpington between 1962-70. In 1971 he inherited the title of Lord Avebury and remained in the Lords until his death in 2016 – after Blair abolished the right of many hereditary peers to sit in the Lords, the Lib Dems elected Lubbock as being one of the Lords to remain.

Lubbock was Chief Whip for the Liberals between 1963-70.

It was Lubbock who stood bail for Thorpe when he was charged in 1978 with conspiracy to kill and incitement to murder Norman. Norman’s allegation that Andrew Newton had tried to shoot him after shooting Rinka was made in Oct 1975 – Newton was subsequently charged. Lubbock sat on the Royal Commission for Standards of Conduct in Public Life 1974-76. In 1976 Lubbock founded the Parliamentary Human Rights Group, which he chaired for the next 21 years – he then became the Vice-Chair.

Lubbock was a patron of the British Humanist Association, an honorary associate of the National Secular Society, a patron of Prisoners Abroad and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group.

In Sept 2010 Lubbock signed an open letter for the British Humanist Association to the Guardian, opposing the state visit to the UK by Benedict XVI.

Lubbock became a Buddhist in the 1970s and in a June 2012 interview published on the website Liberal Democrat Voice, he states that he is a patron of a Buddhist chaplaincy and is contemplating ordination in a Buddhist monastery.

Whilst he was in the Commons, Lubbock had been the Secretary and Chair of the Parliamentary Group on Civil Liberties, which was serviced by the NCCL – the Secretary of the NCCL at the time was Martin Ennals (he acted as Secretary until 1966).

Ennals features on my post ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health – Never For Themselves Of Course…’. After leaving NCCL he worked for the Commission for Racial Equality and was Secretary of Amnesty International, 1968-80. During Ennals’s time at Amnesty he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize.

Martin Ennals was a founding member of the Anti-Apartheid Movement in 1959. Thorpe was active in that movement.

Martin Ennals’s older brother David was the Secretary of State for Social Security when in 1969 Norman Scott rang Ennals’s Private Secretary and told him about Thorpe’s activities (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’).

David Ennals was heavily involved with MIND for years and his son Paul is the former Chief Exec of the National Children’s Bureau and Chair of a number of a number of Safeguarding Boards, including in Haringey (see post ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health – Never For Themselves Of Course…’ for full details of the Ennals’s clan’s connections to MIND and other organisations).

David Steel was Liberal MP for Ross & Cromarty between 1965-97 and then an MSP between 1999-2003. He was also Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament. In 1997 Steel was given a life peerage.

Steel became leader of the Liberal Party in 1976 when Thorpe stepped down and remained leader until 1988 when the Party merged with the SDP. Between 1970-76 he was the Liberals Chief Whip. It was Steel who led the Liberals into the Lib-Lab pact in March 1977. It lasted until 1978 but was widely perceived to have been a very poor deal for the Liberals – in the light of the weakness of the Labour Party at that time, there was a degree of confusion over why Steel couldn’t land a better deal.

Steel was Thorpe’s protégé, became his PPS and was campaign manager when Thorpe ran for the leadership. Like Thorpe, Steel was in the Anti-Apartheid Movement and was it’s President between 1966-70.

When the Liberal activist from Wales who was so concerned at what had happened to Norman Scott at the hands of Jeremy Thorpe contacted Emlyn Hooson and asked for a meeting (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’), it was actually Steel that she met initially, because Hooson (who also worked as a barrister) had been called away to a murder trial. Steel was also shown documentary evidence of Thorpe’s payments to Norman and was given a frank account of what had gone on.

Before Steel was elected he worked for the BBC.

David Steel also knew about Cyril Smith of course…

Jeremy Thorpe was known to have taken a leaf out of the book of his hero David Lloyd George – the father of Gwilym and Megan, two friends of Thorpe – and offered people peerages in return for various favours. Thorpe came up with the goods for Gerran Lloyd, a Liberal Party donor who received a peerage in 1973 and became Lord Lloyd of Kilgerran. After Thorpe was charged with conspiracy to murder and incitement to kill in 1978, Lord Kilgerran set up a Defence Fund to pay Thorpe’s legal costs.

Gerran Lloyd was a barrister who stood for the Liberals on Anglesey in the 1959 General Election. He was President of the Welsh Liberal Party, 1971-74 and President of the British Liberal Party, 1973-74.

Megan Lloyd George was older than Jeremy, but they were very close. As a boy Jeremy used to visit Megan in the Commons for tea and Megan encouraged his political ambitions.

Megan was the first female MP for a Welsh constituency – she was the Liberal MP for Anglesey between 1929-51 and became Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party. In 1955 Megan defected to the Labour Party. In 1957 she was elected as the Labour MP for Carmarthen and held the seat until her death in 1966.

Between 1936-56 Megan was the mistress of the Labour politician Philip Noel-Baker, a campaigner for disarmament who won the Nobel Peace prize in 1959 and who’s wife was a friend of Virginia Woolf.

My post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’ described how in 1971 a Liberal Party secret inquiry into Thorpe’s conduct invited Norman Scott to speak, but ended with Lord Frank Byers, a member of the inquiry, shouting and hurling insults at Norman. It was Byers’s behaviour that motivated Norman to contact the police yet again about Thorpe and make a 33 page statement.

Byers was the Liberal MP for north Dorset between 1945-50. He was made a life peer in 1964 and became the Liberals Leader in the Lords in 1967.

Byers was a Director of Rio Tinto Zinc, 1962-73.

Although Byers was a Liberal, he knew Harold Wilson from their time at Oxford, when they were both members of the Oxford Liberal Club.

Lord Byers has a famous granddaughter who has followed him into politics – Lisa Nandy, who has been the Labour MP for Wigan since 2010. Lisa’s friends were keen for her to challenge Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour Party leadership. She hasn’t yet done this – although her supporters such as Owen Jones live in hope that the day will come when she does. Lisa herself supported Andy Burnham for the leadership, he who concealed the thousands of deaths at Mid-Staffs for so long.

Lisa worked as a researcher for Centrepoint, the homeless charity between 2003-05. She was a senior policy advisor to the Children’s Society from 2005 and an advisor to the Children’s Commissioner for England.

So Lisa will be one of the many people who will have known about the endemic abuse and trafficking of children in care but who has been strangely silent on this topic. Lisa also found one of those people at a senior level to work for once she entered Parliament – Lisa was PPS to Tessa Jowell.

Is Lisa a bit like her granddad perhaps, knowing about truly appalling matters but keeping them under wraps?

Lisa and her followers like to describe her as being on the ‘soft left’ of the Labour Party. Lisa has been inexplicably vigorously promoted as a wonder and potential leader virtually from the day that she was elected. I cannot help wondering if Lisa’s partner Andy Collis might have had something to do with this – he’s a PR consultant.

In fact Lisa’s supporters were so busy touting her around that some four years ago even I was invited to hear her speak. I was a member of the Compass group at the time and I used to receive notification of various events, but as they were always in London and I was in north Wales I didn’t take much notice. But on one occasion, an e mail virtually begged me to go to an event at a well-known location in London with a radical history, where a certain Lisa Nandy was going to be speaking. The event was promoted as being the one to attend even if you were unable to attend others and I had been bombarded with e mails telling me that Compass were keen to enlist the help and support of folk outside London. So for once I made the effort and went to London for the event. Because of the timing of Lisa’s lecture I was assured that I didn’t need to arrange to stay in London overnight, I could get there in time for the lecture, meet people and then get an evening train back to north Wales. So off I went.

What a surprise I had. Although maybe I shouldn’t have actually been that surprised, what with Lisa being a descendant of Frank, but I didn’t know that then.

Until about three years ago I suffered from very serious migraines – not just bad headaches, these were real bastards, when I got one I couldn’t see properly or balance. They were related to a neck injury that I suffered when I was young and of course because I’d dared complain about the paedophiles’ friends I was effectively refused all treatment for them (I have detailed all this elsewhere on the blog). For years I went without effective medication and the only thing that I could do if I developed a migraine was to lie flat in the dark – to take any physical strain off my neck and to minimise the amount of light that I was exposed to. When this happened I used to explain to people around me what was going on. When I was around sane normal people I was always met with a great deal of understanding – unfortunately however I wasn’t always around sane normal people.

About half an hour after arriving at the venue to hear Lisa speak, I developed a migraine. A real killer. Compass had BEGGED me to go to Lisa’s lecture. Not only did not one person even bother to speak to me – although there were only about ten people at the event and Lisa herself stuck like glue to the three stooges who seemed to be at her side throughout – but when I started to feel very, very bad and tried to tell the people sitting immediately next to me, I was completely blanked. I could feel myself losing my balance so I thought that I’d better get out of the audience quick before I fell on the floor. I was about three rows away from the front. Lisa SAW ME almost keeling over. She SAW ME trying to ask for help. Lisa did not bat an eye-lid. On and on she droned, ploughing through her speech – which even I could hear wasn’t very good and she was having to read it pretty much word for word. In the end I managed to make my way to the back of the hall and escaped through a door, which led to a cloakroom place outside of the entrance to the bogs. I did the only thing that I could and I lay down flat with my eyes shielded. Some 45 mins later a load of people came through on their way to the bogs – Lisa’s lecture had ended and they were having a break before the Q and A session. They walked over me. Every one of those nice middle class London radicals who had come to hear Lisa – some of whom obviously knew her – walked over me. No-one even asked me what I was doing and if I was OK. One woman gave me a frosty look so I explained that I was experiencing a very bad migraine. She then walked out of the door.

I remained on the floor shielded from the light throughout Lisa’s Q and A session. When the event ended everyone buggered off. As did Lisa. They all knew that I was crashed out in the back room with a migraine. I stayed there for the next couple of hours until I was just about able to walk without keeling over. By this time I realised that I’d not be able to catch the train from Euston back to Bangor. Because I was in London rather than on the doorstep of the Top Doctors in north Wales, I decided that I’d try and make my way to a London hospital for help – I ended up at UCL. Christ that was not a good idea, but that is another story. I failed to elicit any help at UCL and was ‘discharged’ ie. chucked out, into the middle of London at 3am. By this time my migraine was gradually beginning to pass. I spent the next few hours dossing outside Euston station waiting for it to open (I didn’t realise that Euston shuts for the small hours). I got the first train back to Bangor – which meant buying another ticket, because the one that I’d purchased was no longer valid.

The whole trip cost me a bloody fortune but it taught me a lot about Lisa Nandy and her supporters.

I continue to receive e mails from Compass asking me for dosh, asking me if I’d like to start up a local Compass group and inviting me to more events in London. I’m never giving them another penny and I’ll never risk my neck at another Lisa Nandy related event in my life.

Lisa is on record as saying that she has received ‘abuse’ from Corbyn’s supporters and that she was ‘genuinely frightened’. So was I Lisa, I was in the middle of London where I knew no-one, in agony, unable to walk or see properly and worried that I was going to start throwing up. But at least you got to read – literally – your speech. What I find even more ‘genuinely frightening’ Lisa is that your grandfather ignored the witness testimony and the pleas for help from someone who had already been by that time the target of a murder plot, according to evidence given at the Old Bailey many years later.

Lisa was selected as a Labour party candidate on an all women shortlist. Her wiki entry boasts that she is the fist female MP for the constituency – as there was an all-women shortlist imposed that is not really much of an achievement – and that she was born into a ‘Bengali family’ no less and that she was ‘one of the first six Asian MPs elected’.

As far as I understand, Lisa’s mother – Frank Byers’s daughter – was not Bengali. It was only Lisa’s father who was Bengali. So in terms of ethnicity, Lisa is as much white (presumably British) as she is Bengali. Is Lisa perhaps being somewhat selective in which boxes she chooses to tick?

The one box that Lisa does tick however is ‘one quarter composed of the genetic material of Lord Frank Byers’.

How about that for your wife’s next election campaign slogan then Andy?

Emlyn Hooson sat on the secret inquiry into Thorpe, alongside Lisa’s granddad and David Steel.

Emlyn Hooson was the Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire, between 1962-79. He was then elevated to the Lords where he sat until his death in 2012. Hooson sat as a Liberal and then as a Liberal Democrat.

Hooson was born in 1925, the son of a Denbighshire hill farmer and attended Denbigh Grammar School – like a few others we know and love. After that, Hooson read law at Aberystwyth University….He served in the Royal Navy – just like Gwynne the lobotomist…

Hooson became a barrister in 1949. He was Chairman of the Flint Quarter Sessions from 1960 and the Merioneth Quarter Sessions from 1962. He was a member of the Bar Council from 1965.

Like so many of the paedophiles’ friends, Hooson played a role in the trial of the Moors Murderers – he was Ian Brady’s QC.

Emlyn was appointed Recorder at Methyr Tydfil and Swansea in 1971 and was Leader of the Chester and Wales Circuit when the corruption on that Circuit was in full swing between 1971-74. He was appointed Recorder of Crown Courts 1972-91. Hooson also became a Deputy High Court judge. He was President of the Cambrian Law Review and an honorary professorial fellow at Aberystwyth University.

Hooson stood as the Liberal candidate for Conwy in the 1950 General Election and again in 1951.

Emlyn Hooson was Chair of the Liberal Party of Wales in 1955 and appointed to the Liberal Party Executive in 1965.

As Chair of the Liberal Party of Wales, he led it’s merger with the North and South Wales Liberal Federation, forming the Welsh Liberal Party.

Hooson introduced the Government of Wales Bill  1967 which eventually led to the establishment of the National Assembly for Wales.

In 1979 Hooson became a life peer. The year that his mates ignored the activities of Dafydd, as he unlawfully had Mary Wynch arrested, imprisoned and relieved of her property.

Emlyn Hooson’s biography tells us that in the Lords he was active in ‘improving the Mental Health Act’. Would he perhaps have made a contribution to the 1983 Act, which was drafted by Robert Bluglass and accompanied by a Code of Practice drafted by William Bingley, whilst both of them covered-up for Dafydd? Not that Emlyn needed to have even bothered – Dafydd just broke the law under the new Act as he had done so under the old one. Emlyn also spoke in the Lords on the necessity for police reform and drugs trafficking. He’ll have known an awful lot about both…

In 1980 Lord Hooson became a member of the ITV advisory council and in 1985 he was appointed a non-executive director of Laura Ashley. He became Chair of Laura Ashley in 1995. So Emlyn could have told everyone why that company went seriously pear-shaped after the death of Laura Ashley and whether the allegations about Bernard Ashley were true…

In 1980 Hooson also Chaired the consortium that bid for the Wales and West TV franchise.

Between 1991-2000 Lord Hooson was Chair of Severn River Crossing PLC.

In 1966 Hooson was President of the National Eisteddfod of Wales. In 1967 he was made an honorary White Bard of the Gorsedd. Between 1987-93 he was President of the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen.

Hooson has two daughters, the Hon Sioned and the Hon Lowri. They both attended the London Welsh School, where Emlyn was Chair of the Governors.

So Hooson had a foot firmly planted in the London Welsh contingent. Hooson died in 2012 which is a great pity, because I would have liked to have asked him why for no good reason some years ago the fraternity of twats in high society in London all wanted to join the London Welsh Society – David Frost was hammering at the door so hard that he nearly broke it down and was most irate when he wasn’t accepted. Lots of fatuous jokes were being made about how being Welsh had suddenly become the height of cool among the London elite. Nonsense -Frost et al had no interest in anything that did not personally advance them, they had no interest in Wales, if they had they’d have gone to live there. Something else was going on. It was nearly as odd as when David Frost died unexpectedly of a heart-attack on a cruise ship when most unusually he wasn’t accompanied by his wife, just as the ship was too far away from the shore to have summoned the help needed. And then Frost’s son was found dead after he’d gone out jogging – from heart problems that were ‘undiagnosed’. I seem to remember all this happened as Operation Pallial got underway. Which was when Dafydd’s partner in crime Tony Francis (Dr X) killed himself – in the light of the documents that I now possess I can understand why Francis might have felt like doing that…

Emlyn’s dad Hugh farmed in the Vale of Clwyd. After Emlyn died, Ieuan Wyn Jones, former leader of Plaid and former Deputy First Minister, commented that he had known Emlyn from Clwyd, where Ieuan Wyn Jones had also lived and that Emlyn ‘was extremely knowledgeable about the politics, history and culture of the Vale’. He certainly was and he knew Dafydd and Gwynne the lobotomist too – and I bet that he knew about the long standing paedophile activity towards the children in care.

Kirsty Williams waxed lyrical about Emlyn when he died, explaining that he was the founding father of the Welsh Liberal Party. Kirsty, I think that your foundations might be a little bit rotten…

In 1970, after the jailing of some Welsh students for invading the High Court in London, Hooson stated that ‘the Welsh were fed up with people who broke the law then whined about the consequences’. Indeed – after Mary Wynch sued Dafydd, everyone was fucking furious to see him given air time on the TV to maintain that ‘I found myself in this bizarre situation when I was only trying to help’. Ten years later when Dafydd was asked to explain why I had complained about him unlawfully arresting and detaining me, he came out with exactly the same phrase.

Emlyn was a close friend of Lord Alex Carlile, who succeeded him as Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire. Carlile had known him previously, he’d met Hooson when Carlile was training to be a barrister.

Even Emlyn Hooson’s most loyal fans agree that the path in life of this son of a Denbighshire hill farmer had been helped by his marriage to the daughter of Sir George Hamer, the Lord Lieutenant of Montgomeryshire.

Emlyn Hooson was not called as a witness at Thorpe’s Old Bailey trial. Peter Bessell, Thorpe’s friend and Liberal Party colleague, did give evidence and testified that Hooson knew of Thorpe’s payments to Norman Scott. The Court heard a recording of David Holmes, Thorpe’s friend and co-defendant, telling Bessell that Hooson had been ‘firmly sat on’ for trying to force Thorpe out. Someone somewhere will know who sat on Hooson, but they weren’t called to give evidence either.

David Freeman, Harold Wilson’s Press Solicitor, was someone who offered a helping hand to Thorpe’s friend and co-defendant, David Holmes.  When The Mirror revealed that it was Holmes who had purchased incriminating material about Jeremy which according to Norman Scott had been sold without his authorisation by Scott’s GP Roger Gleadle, Holmes met with the DPP and David Freeman subsequently prepared a statement on Holmes’s behalf. The statement was allegedly personally vetted by Harold Wilson.

Freeman was born in Cardiff and was involved in the Robert Maxwell DTI inquiry in 1970.

In 1974 Freeman advised Wilson on libel.

Freeman was a Trustee of Ravenswood (now Norwood) Children’s Home. In 2007 he built a children’s centre, The Freeman Family Centre, for Barnardos in Brent.

Freeman’s wife was an educational psychologist who then became a partner in his law firm in 1967 after she qualified as a solicitor. She wrote the authorised biography of Lord Denning.

Another character whose name appeared repeatedly in Michael Bloch’s book about Thorpe who seemed to be highly influential in the Liberal Party during the Jeremy Years was Trevor Jones – who in 1981 became Sir Trevor Jones.

Trevor Jones was for many years the Lib Dem leader of Liverpool City Council. Although he was constructed very much as Welsh and was nicknamed ‘Jones the Vote’, he grew up in Bootle. However his parents were Welsh – they were from Dyserth in Denbighshire and Jones was born in north Wales.

Trevor Jones was elected to Liverpool City Council in 1968 and to Liverpool Metropolitan District Council in 1973. He led his party to control Liverpool in 1973, was Council leader again between 1981-83 and then again in 1987. He remained a member of the Council until 1991. In 2003 he returned to the council when he was re-elected to Liverpool City Council and remained there until 2010. Jones also stood as the Liberal candidate for Liverpool Toxteth in the Feb 1974 General Election. In the General Election in the October of 1974, Jones was Liberal Candidate for Gillingham. Jones was President of the Liberal Party in 1972 for one year and in the early 70s campaigned for the Liberal Party in the south east of England.

Trevor Jones was heavily involved with David Alton’s election victory in 1979. Alton’s result was breath-taking, there was an enormous swing in his favour – which was a bit strange, because David Alton is really only a one-track pony. He is anti-abortion and that’s about it. Whilst there are many people who are quite genuine in their opposition to abortion – it’s rather ironic that in the past couple of weeks there have been howls of outrage about Jacob Rees-Mogg declaring himself to be anti-abortion because there are many more offensive indefensible things about Rees-Mogg than that – the tactics used by some MPs and their associates who have stood on an anti-abortion platform have been very unpleasant. One wonders what Trevor Jones and co did to achieve that impressive result.

Trevor Jones’s wife Doreen was a Liverpool City Councillor for 30 years and was Lord Mayor of Liverpool twice – Jones himself was also Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

Although flattering profiles of Trevor Jones stress his ‘public service’ and ‘success’, Liverpool local politics during his years were very fraught indeed. Derek Hatton was causing havoc – I was told in the 80s by someone who’s family were involved in local politics in Liverpool that Hatton was actually far worse than was ever publicly admitted and was no more than a thug – and Trevor Jones was one of those who opposed Militant. It was as a result of the expulsion of 47 Militant Councillors in March 1987 that Jones became Council leader. However I imagine that Jones has numerous skeletons in his own cupboard – he was leader of the Council at the time of the Toxteth riots and ‘worked in partnership with Heseltine’. Many interesting things were going on in Liverpool – this blog has already detailed some of the corruption in the NHS and medical school in Liverpool, but a number of people have told me that ‘community politics’ were absolutely poisonous and that some genuine people were very badly damaged and withdrew from such activities.

Trevor Jones’s style and contribution to politics can perhaps be assessed by the nature of his protégé – in Nov 2008, the Liverpool Echo mentioned a Chris Rennard, described as Jones’s ‘younger Lieutenant’.

Readers may recognise the name – Rennard, now Lord Rennard, became infamous a few years ago after numerous allegations surfaced that Rennard was attempting to extract sexual favours from women in return for their progress in the Party.

Chris Rennard was a Liberal Party activist in Liverpool in the late 70s – whilst at university he had Chaired the Liverpool University Liberals. Rennard is described as one of the ‘early pioneers of community politics in Liverpool’…. Rennard himself maintains that Trevor Jones was a ‘major influence’ on him.

Whilst Deputy Chair of Liverpool Labour Party, Rennard organised many campaigns in the 80s when the Liberals controlled the City Council. Rennard was David Alton’s agent in 1983 when Alton stood for the newly created seat of Liverpool Mossley Hill. In 1984 Rennard was one of the Party’s national Area Agents in Leicester. He’ll have heard about a Lord Greville Janner of the Labour Party then. Chris Rennard also assisted in the Eastbourne campaign in 1990 – so he’ll have known David Bellotti, the Liberal MP who tried to help Mary Wynch and disappeared from national politics afterwards never to resurface.

In 2011 ‘Total Politics’ described Rennard as ‘the most formidable and feared political campaigner of the last twenty years.

Rennard stood down as Chief Exec of the Lib Dems in 2009, after a number of truly hair-raising accounts from female Lib Dems regarding their experiences with him. There were allegations of serious sexual harassment and people were alleging that sexual favours were expected in return for advancement in the Lib Dems. There was an enormous hoo ha, with some Lib Dems maintaining that Rennard was the loveliest man that they had ever met (which was what the corrupt occupational health physician at St George’s, Nicky Mitchell-Heggs, said about Professor Tom Burns), whilst others claimed that he was a ruthless sexual predator who ruled by fear. Cleggy and the usual suspects all maintained that bullying wasn’t tolerated in the Lib Dems, neither sexual harassment etc etc. But then Cleggy dispensed kind words at Cyril Smith’s funeral. And probably at Jeremy Thorpe’s as well.

The aggro concerning Chris Rennard did not go away – the allegations of sexual harassment returned with a vengeance in 2013 after a number of women complainants were furious that so little action had been taken against him, although at one point there was a Metropolitan Police investigation as well as a Lib Dem investigation.

In 2014 after Rennard was suspended from the party, the Times reported that ‘friends’ of Rennards claimed that he would reveal two decades of sex scandal in the Party if he were to be expelled – it was overtly stated that ‘he knows where the bodies are buried’. I suspect that Rennard also knows about two decades of sex scandal in the Tory Party, in the Labour Party and in Plaid Cymru. Because I do as well.

I too suspect that I know where at least some bodies are buried. I think that some bodies are buried within the grounds of the now derelict North Wales Hospital Denbigh. Anyone want to start the excavations a la the Catholic institutions for the unfortunate?

Chris Rennard is a friend and legal advisor of Alex Carlile.
