More Alan Bennett

‘The Morning Star’ today leads on Jezza and John McDonnell’s claims that the billions more that Theresa has just promised the Top Doctors will not be enough. No, they’ll soon get through it. There’ll be new carpets for the executive offices, expenses needed for overseas conferences and ‘training sessions’ during the course of which everyone will stay in a luxury hotel, there’s the Mindfulness sessions for staff, the essentials must be catered for. Not to mention the agency staff on the books of the agencies owned by Top Docs and senior managers, the management consultants called in by the already highly paid managers, the IT systems that won’t work, etc.

In the light of the continued outpouring of love for the NHS on the grounds that it ‘treats everyone equally’ and is socialism in action, I thought that I’d blog a bit more about the strategy used by Nye Bevan and Lord Charles Moran to persuade the Top Doctors to accept the establishment of the NHS.

The basis of the strategy was, as I explained in my post ‘The History, Boys…’, to give the Top Docs a great deal of money. Regarding my confusion as to whether Nye Bevan stuffed the Top Docs mouths with gold or, as Jeremy Paxman maintains, silver, I have been sent a journal article which states that Nye Bevan said that ‘Ultimately I had to stuff their mouths with gold’. Bevan was alleged to have said this over a dinner at the Commons. The dinner in question was to celebrate the Guillebaud Report, which exonerated Bevan of charges of extravagance.

In the face of all these folk commenting in the media that Nye Bevan was their hero because he was left wing and working class, I’ll just remind everyone that in their day, Bevan and his wife Jennie Lee were repeatedly accused of living like kings and as a result many felt that Bevan and Lee were exploiting their positions. It was mud thrown at them by their opponents that stuck because it was, sort of, true. One Top Doctor warmed to Bevan upon meeting him, because instead of encountering the class warrior whom he expected, he noticed that Mr Bevan was wearing a very expensive suit. Thus the ice was melted.

The journal article which I have been sent has some very useful information regarding the Distinction Awards System which, from the establishment of the NHS until very recently, was the NHS bonus system for Top Doctors. I think that the system has now been either scrapped completely or reformed beyond recognition, but it was certainly still in place in 1999, virtually unchanged from when it was introduced in the 1940s.

The bonuses distributed under this system were commonly known as ‘merit awards’ and they caused massive resentment. Only consultants could receive a merit award and, as someone told me back in the 1980s, one did not have to be meritorious to receive one. I’m fairly sure that all consultants received a merit award, but there were different categories of award. Even the lowest category was generous, it added many thousands of pounds to a Top Doctor’s salary, but the highest category – an A+ award – doubled the salary of a consultant. The reason that there was so much dissatisfaction with the system was that although the awards were funded from the public purse, they were decided and given out in secrecy. Until the late 1990s when the identities of award holders were published, no-one even knew who was receiving which award. The criteria on which merit awards were distributed were worded such that pretty much anyone doing anything could be given anything. It was a system which was alleged – even by the most conservative of Top Doctors – to reek of nepotism and inequity. There seemed to be very little logic in who was given which award, which led to repeated allegations of an old boys’ network in operation.

Such suspicions were confirmed when, after the awards were finally published, analyses demonstrated that there was systematic racial and gender discrimination at work. The discrimination was so marked that it could not be explained as an unintentional result of any other selection criteria. I also seem to remember reading that analyses had demonstrated that graduates of certain medical schools were being systematically favoured for receipt of the higher awards. Publications demonstrating discrimination were written by the usual suspects – Sam Everington and his colleagues. The Sam Everington who, after his dangerous youthful rebellion into raising awareness of the rampant racism and sexism within medicine, bagged a knighthood and seats on the BMA and GMC because he very wisely didn’t mention the institutional abuse of vulnerable people or heaven forbid, Dafydd (see post ‘The Bodies Beneath Canary Wharf’). Sam’s analyses were interesting, but I’m not sure that they were even needed – the biggest problem with the Distinction Awards System was that the awards were decided by a committee of Top Docs who were literally giving the dosh to their mates in secret without having to explain themselves to anyone.

The paper which I have been sent discussing the Distinction Awards System is by I.J.T. Davies and is from the Proceedings of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh, 1998, 28: 517-534.

Davies explains that the starting point of the Distinction Awards Scheme was the Spens Report, May 1948. My post ‘The History, Boys…’ explains that it was Winston Churchill’s physician, Lord Charles Moran aka Charlie Corkscrew, who helped set up the Spens Committee which determined the remuneration of Top Doctors and dentists and he Chaired the Gov’t Standing Committee which determined the payment of specialists.

Davies states that the Spens Report was considered to be a political document which was heavily biased in favour of the opinions of Charlie Corkscrew and Nye Bevan, the then Minister of Health. Opposition to the creation of the NHS among the Top Docs was so overwhelming and entrenched that Bevan needed to divide the medical profession to achieve his aim. In the face of the BMA opposing the NHS, Bevan needed to persuade the most influential specialists in the country to accept it. The plan to do this was hatched in a meeting between Corkscrew Charlie and Bevan in Pruniers Restaurant, St James’s, London. It wasn’t Greggs – St James’s is in Mayfair and a quick google reveals that there is still a Pruniers Restaurant in St James’s, but it is now called Caviar House & Prunier.

Here’s a pic from the ‘Socialist Worker’ of a rally in support of the NHS which was held earlier this year and was addressed by Jeremy Corbyn:

Over a thousand people packed the meeting

Charlie Corkscrew knew that a system of Distinction Awards would split the Royal Colleges from the BMA. Charlie Corkscrew also had an eye on his own future security. He was in his early 60s, was said to be ‘careless with money’ and with ‘no regular paid employment’ apart from his ‘small private practice’. If the Distinction Award System was established, Corkscrew’s friendship with Bevan would ensure that Corkscrew would be selected as Chairman of the first Advisory Committee in Distinction Awards. He also needed to influence the Royal College of Physicians of London, because he was up for election as President against the popular Lord Horder, who was opposed to the NHS.

Corkscrew had a known ‘distaste’ for psychiatry and anaesthetics and he therefore designed an in-built bias against these specialities into the Distinction Awards System.

The Spens Committee took evidence from only one Royal College – the Royal College of Physicians of London.

The Distinction Awards System was the cause of so much dissatisfaction that Top Doctors had forays in which they opposed it by publishing in medical journals. Between 1975-88, Peter Bruggen and Stanford Bourne, two psychiatrists working at the Tavistock Clinic, wrote a series of articles for the BMJ criticising the system. Their anger had boiled over when these two ‘distinguished psychiatrists’ had found themselves in a group of ‘a dozen distinguished colleagues’ – everyone I note was distinguished, there was not one hopeless, incompetent idiot among them – when one of the distinguished ones revealed that they had received a Distinction Award. World War III broke out because none of the others had and do you know they all agreed that at least six of them were worthy of a Distinction Award and thus a a series of articles appeared in the BMJ.

So who were the distinguished psychiatrists who had been denied the dosh that they so richly deserved?

From 1969-94 Peter Bruggan was a consultant psychiatrist at Hill End Adolescent Unit, St Albans. According to an article about Bruggan in ‘Psychology Today’: ‘That unit had the UK’s lowest length of stay and attracted around 100 professional visitors a year. He was also a consultant psychiatrist from 1969-90 at the Tavistock Clinic from where, with Sandy Bourne, he published several BMJ papers exposing the origins of systemic discipline and gender bias in the Distinction Awards’.

So much for ‘Psychology Today’ – Hill End Adolescent Unit was the subject of an abuse expose when it was revealed that 17 patients had complained of being physically or sexually assaulted by staff and forcibly sedated. Was Peter Bruggan helping ‘young tearaways?’ No. The complainants included anorexic girls.

Bruggan has co-authored with Celebrity Shrink Raj Persaud, who became famous by being the go-to media psych and then became infamous when it was revealed that this Top Doc had plagiarised other Top Docs work and had done so for years before anyone challenged him. The person who exposed the lying cheat that was Persaud was Professor Richard Bentall, a psychologist who trained and worked at Bangor University. I really appreciated Richard Bentall doing that, but I wish that he’d blown the whistle on Dafydd and the paedophiles as well, because Bentall knew all about them. Richard Bentall’s dad was Professor Hugh Bentall, the heart surgeon at Hammersmith Hospital, who’s colleagues were committing research fraud like there was no tomorrow and who’s secretary became his mistress, so Bentall arranged for her to do a degree and then a PhD in anatomy and somehow she was then given a lecturing job. She taught me when I was doing my MSc at Hammersmith. She spent a lot of her time ordering other staff around who deeply resented her but didn’t dare say anything because of who she had shagged in the past, so they exacted their revenge by passing on tales of her adventures with Hugh Bentall. The Bentall family owned Bentall’s, the up-market dept store in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Richard Bentall did a good job in the witness box against Persaud but nevertheless was subjected to much sneering and pompousing by the GMC. Well he was merely a clinical psychologist, not a real Top Doctor. Persaud was not struck off, but he was suspended for three months. Persaud works at Dafydd’s old stomping ground, the Maudsley.

I am wondering whether Richard Bentall was only given the time of day by the GMC because of who his dad was – Persaud had nicked loads of people’s work before he snaffled Bentall’s and everybody else had been ignored when they raised concerns.

In Jan 2018, Persaud and Bruggan wrote a comment article for the i in the wake of the sexual abuse case against Larry Nassar, the USA Olympics Gymnastics team Top Doctor. Their article was entitled ‘How To Apologise: a Guide for Larry Nassar, George H.W. Bush and Kevin Spacey’.

Stanford Bourne is so distinguished that I can find no trace of him except for references to the articles that he wrote for the BMJ with his distinguished abusing colleague.

By 1981 the Top Docs were having such hissy fits re the Distinction Awards that the Commons Social Services Committee investigated. Two members of that Committee were David Ennals and Sir Nicholas Winterton. Lord Ennals is an old favourite of this blog, he was a Labour MP and a paid-up paedophiles’ friend. Ennals worked for MIND in its paedophile days and then became Chairman and President (see post ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health – Never For Themselves Of Course’); he was also a friend of Dafydd’s mate from the Maudsley, Dr Jim Birley. Ennals was Minister for the Army, then in the Home Office and then Minister for Social Services in Wilson’s administration, 1966-70. Ennals was Secretary of State for Social Services, 1976-79, under Jim Callaghan. He was Secretary to the UNA, 1952-57, then Chairman in 1984. Dafydd was linked to the UNA. Ennals’s son Sir Paul Ennals was Chief Exec of the National Children’s Bureau. The NCB was infiltrated with paedophiles and was connected to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal.

David Ennals died in 1995 – as the voices demanding a public inquiry into the abuse of children in north Wales could no longer be ignored. Ennals died from pancreatic cancer which is notorious for killing people soon after symptoms are first noticed. Having said that I now realised that coroners and pathologists do not always tell the truth about the cause of death re witnesses to wrongdoing in high places.

In his capacity as a member of the 1981 Commons Committee investigating the Distinction Awards System, David Ennals expressed concern about the way in which psychiatrists in particular seemed to be losing out under the system and asked if there was any way in which they could receive ‘special help’.

Dafydd was reputed to be a millionaire by 1981.

‘I’m just an old fashioned girl with an old fashioned mind
Not sophisticated, I’m the sweet and simple kind
I want an old fashioned house, with an old fashioned fence
And an old fashioned millionaire.’

Eartha Kitt also recorded ‘Santa Baby’.

One Christmas a Hergest patient was in festive spirit so he drew a big picture of ‘Father Jonesmas’. It was actually drawn in the style of Guiseppe Arcimboldo, the 16th century Italian artist who became known for drawing portraits of people made up of vegetables, but this man drew a portrait of Father Jonesmas with a face which was unmistakably comprised of male genitalia. The portrait was much admired until Tony Francis noticed the crowd of Empowered Service Users having a good laugh at it whilst sharing trips down memory lane with regard to Dafydd-related experiences. Francis took the portrait down on the grounds that it was ‘personal and obscene’. Complaints about Dafydd continued to go uninvestigated.

Sir Nicholas Winterton was Tory MP for Macclesfield, 1971-02 and was a member of the Monday Club.

Winterton was a member of the West Midlands Conservative Council from 1967 -71 and was a Warwickshire County Councillor representing a coal mining and industrial division in North Warwickshire from 1967–72. So he could well have known Dafydd’s mate and umbrella Professor Robert Bluglass.

Although never promoted to a Ministerial or Shadow role, Winterton served as a member of the Social Services Select Committee, 1979-90 and was then Chairman of the Health Select Committee, 1990–92. He’ll have known about Dafydd et al then.

Winterton’s wife was Lady Ann Winterton, the Tory MP for Congleton, Cheshire, 1983-2010. Ann Winterton was educated at Erdington Grammar School for Girls. Following her election to represent Congleton in 1983, she was a member of several Select Committees, the National Drug Strategy, 1998-01 and Social Security, 2000-01. So She’ll have known something about Dafydd being given huge ‘contracts’ to provide ‘substance abuse services’ by the NHS. Winterton is a representative of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and a Patron of Cheshire NSPCC. Dafydd and the paedophile gang operated in Cheshire. Winterton is also President of the Congleton Pantomime Society.

The Wintertons were investigated by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, who concluded that they misused their MPs’ expenses to pay rent for a flat that they had already bought outright. Once the mortgage had been fully repaid, the Wintertons transferred the ownership of the flat into a family trust. Since 2002 they had paid the rent to their trust for living in the flat from their MPs’ expenditure. The Committee accepted that the Wintertons had ‘at no stage attempted to conceal their arrangements’. Nicholas Winterton said of his expenses ‘I try to tackle matters of expenses in a responsible way, I don’t spend any more money than is absolutely necessary’. This was at odds with his party’s leader, David Cameron, who branded them as ‘indefensible’. On 25 May 2009 it was announced that both the Wintertons would stand down as MPs at the next general election.

At one point Nicholas Winterton stood accused of slapping a Labour (female) MP on the bum. He agreed that it was possible that he had done this. Ann Winterton has a track record of telling racist jokes with punch lines that depend upon the death of a Foreigner. In 2005 Ann Winterton waxed lyrical about Britain being a country in which crime had got out of control. Organised sexual abuse in Cheshire certainly had.

Many years ago I was told by a member of the Tory Party that the Wintertons were swingers. I only heard about this because the person who told me couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to swing with Nicholas Winterton, but I was told that he did manage to find partners for this activity.

The swingers on the Social Services Committee investigating Distinction Awards in 1981 of course interviewed a Top Doctor, namely Sir Stanley Clayton, who had Chaired the Advisory Committee on Distinction Awards for a five year term in the past. Stanley Clayton was President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 1972-75.

The Royal College of Surgeons ‘Plarr’s Live Of The Fellows’ tells us that Stanley Clayton was born in 1911, the son of a clergyman. He was educated at Kingswood School, Bath and qualified from King’s College Hospital. He served in the RAMC and then resumed his career in obstetrics and gynaecology at King’s. Clayton was made a consultant at both King’s College and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals and later at the Chelsea Hospital for Women. Clayton contributed to the classic text book, the ‘Ten Teachers’ publication in obstetrics and gynaecology . Clayton was elected the first Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King’s College Hospital which followed his earlier appointment to the Chair at Queen Charlotte’s and the Chelsea Hospital for Women. He died in 1986.

Queen Charlotte’s has a ward named after Sir Stanley. Someone has posted a question on mumsnet asking if anyone has experience of it. Well if they have had, it will have cost them. The Sir Stanley Clayton ward ‘is the private post-natal ward which includes en suite facilities for patients. You and your baby will stay in modern, private en suite bedrooms, designed to ensure your comfort and make you feel right at home. Partners are encouraged to stay and, subject to availability, you will also be able to request one of the wards double bedrooms. Private rooms are equipped to ensure you have an enjoyable stay and include satellite TV and a free WiFi network as standard’.

Sir Stanley Clayton ward is part of Imperial Private Healthcare. It was named after a man who, as I shall shortly explain, gave his crooked colleagues huge secret bonuses. He was able to do that because of the deal which Nye Of The Cloth Cap struck with the Top Doctors at the founding of the NHS.

Over a thousand people packed the meeting

Davies’s 1998 journal article discusses – in the context of self-regulation of Top Doctors – a number of cases in which Top Doctors received Distinction Awards and were then disgraced. Malcolm Pearce is given as an example. Pearce was the consultant at St George’s Hospital Medical School who, along with Prof Geoffrey Chamberlain – who had worked with Stanley Clayton at Queen Charlotte’s and had contributed to the ‘Ten Teachers’ book – was caught publishing fraudulent research. Pearce was struck off among much outrage and hullabaloo, but Chamberlain did not even face disciplinary action from the GMC – instead he gave evidence against Pearce. Chamberlain did have to resign as President of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology however. I suspect that Chamberlain got off partly or wholly as a result of his closeness to Sir George Pinker, what with Pinker’s Royal connections (see post ‘Wimmin’s Wellbeing – The Fortnum And Mason Connection’). Or it could have been because Chamberlain was concealing the paedophile gang which Dafydd facilitated, which numbered among its members Sir Peter Morrison, brother of Dame Mary, Woman-of-the-Bedchamber to HM Queen Lilibet and which had connections to Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor aka the Duke of Westminster, who was a friend of Carlo’s.

Davies’s article makes the point that Malcolm was given his merit award on the basis of his research, which was later demonstrated to have been fraudulent. Malcolm kept his award after the research fraud was exposed. Geoffrey Chamberlain will undoubtedly have been in receipt of a merit award as well and Professor Stuart Stanton, another gynaecologist at St George’s who was loathed and surrounded by clouds of suspicion, was rumoured to be in receipt of an A+ merit award.

What did all Chamberlain, Pearce and Stanton have in common? They were all closely associated with Sir Stanley Clayton, who had Chaired the Advisory Committee which dished out the awards.

The journal article by Davies mentioned two other Top Docs as well as Pearce who had been caught faking research whilst in receipt of Distinction Awards – Dr John Anderton and Dr P.G.F. Nixon.

Dr John Anderton had his name removed from the Medical Register in 1997 after he admitted faking research while he was Head of the Renal Transplant Unit at the Western General in Edinburgh. Anderton had been a consultant for more than 25 years when he was struck off for forging signatures of patients who were meant to be testing a new drug, Amiodipine, used to treat high blood pressure. In reality, no-one was ever given the drug.

Anderton was a former Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh. He admitted inventing data and persuading his assistant, Maureen Johnstone, to lie to auditors by saying that she had witnessed the signatures. His cover-up was discovered when he mistakenly spelt her name without an ‘e’ on the forged consent forms. The GMC found that Dr Anderton had ‘repeatedly behaved dishonestly’ and had abused the trust of administrative staff and found him guilty of serious professional misconduct. The deception earned Mr Anderton more than £40,000 although ‘he made no personal financial gain’. If a deception had earned me more than £40k I’d feel that I had made considerable financial gain. Dr Anderton was said to be suffering from a breakdown at the time of the forgeries.

Malcolm Pearce produced medical evidence stating that he was suffering from manic-depression when he wrote a journal article claiming to have performed a life-saving operation which never took place.

When Empowered Service Users in north Wales were prosecuted by Dafydd and the paedophiles, it would be stressed that they suffered from ‘an abnormality of mind’, but it was a personality disorder which isn’t a real mental illness. It’s enough of a mental disorder to be banged up for life for committing a trivial crime or indeed no crime at all, but it’s a special sort of very convenient mental disorder which means that the Empowered Service User can be refused care and treatment and sent to prison instead.

Dr P.G.F. Nixon was a retired Charing Cross cardiologist who lost a libel case against Channel 4. During the case he admitted that errors in his reported research were ‘more than just a slip of the pen’.

Pearce, Anderton and Nixon should never have fabricated research, but Dafydd should not have been running a sex trafficking ring and Chamberlain and numerous others should not have been colluding with him. Dafydd and Chamberlain were never struck off.

Davies’s paper also mentioned the case of James Wisheart. It was concerns around Wisheart which resulted in the Bristol Heart Surgery Scandal, in which it became clear that Wisheart and others operated well beyond their competence with fatal results. Wisheart was given an A merit award in 1994, when questions had already been asked about his conduct as Medical Director for his Trust as well as about his actions as a paediatric surgeon. Wisheart was struck off, but the GMC explained that nonetheless there ‘was no evidence that he had acted with anything but the best intentions for his patients’.

No there never is, no matter how dangerous or deranged the Top Doctor – unless of course the Top Doc is a whistleblower.

Everybody – including me – who complained about Dafydd was repeatedly told that he was acting in our best interests. Whilst he ran that sex trafficking ring, abducted us, unlawfully imprisoned us, perjured himself in court, threatened us, tried to bribe us and then sent the boys round.

Bristol University was the alma mater of Dr D.G.E. Wood, the corrupt GP who was facilitating the trafficking ring in north Wales.

People need to get their heads around the fact that the Top Doctors do not regulate themselves. They never have and they never will. I wrote to the GMC about the constant threats and harassment towards me on the part of the Top Doctors in the immediate aftermath of the Harold Shipman Scandal. There was actually an apology to the victims of Harold Shipman posted up on the GMC website at the time that I wrote to them about Dr Tony Roberts and Dr Andy Jones of the Hergest Unit. There was not even an investigation into Roberts and Jones. My lawyer later discovered a forged letter purporting to be from me in the possession of the GMC (see post ‘The General Medical Council And Yet Another Forged Document’). Andy Jones was removed from the Register a few years later, after a violent attack on his wife and the removal of his children from his care on the grounds that they were severely neglected.

After conducting the Harold Shipman Inquiry and reporting in 2002, Dame Janet Smith gave the GMC yet another chance, but told them that they were ‘drinking in the last chance saloon’. No, they are getting completely pissed and smashing the pub up because they know that there is no chance that they will be chucked out and banned for life.

Then Dame Janet conducted the Inquiry into Jimmy Savile’s offending and guess what, when she published the Dame Janet Smith Review in 2016, she concluded that there was no evidence that senior managers in the NHS knew what Savile was doing. Of course they did you foolish blinkered old cow, I was told by two different medical researchers in 1988 that Savile was molesting children and a few years later I heard tales from Stoke Mandeville as well…

Dame Janet practised as a barrister in Manchester for 20 years, specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence cases. After being appointed QC in 1986, she was appointed by Lancashire County Council in 1991 to hold a public inquiry into reported abuse of autistic children children at Scotforth House in Lancaster. Dame Janet was appointed a High Court judge in 1992.

Why does none of that surprise me?

Davies’s 1998 journal article also mentions the work of Charles Webster, the ‘official NHS historian’. Webster is a laugh a minute, he was involved in writing the history of the mental health services in north Wales back in the 1990s when Dafydd and the paedophiles were in need of PR and reinforcements. Charles missed a few things, as did his co-authors. Someone else wrote another history of the North Wales Hospital Denbigh as well, which has become notorious for being a sort of romantic novel about Dafydd et al. Someone keeps requesting that I should give that book a kicking on this blog. Look, I’m not going to, it would be like savaging a hamster…

Kind and caring nurses? Er, no Pam, they murdered one of my friends. ‘Nuff said.

What I would like to know is why Mr Big of NHS history Charles Webster was willing to lend a hand in the face of a gang of paedophiles in distress. Webster was a Fellow of Corpus Christie College, Oxford, 1972-88; Director of the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine, 1972-88; Reader in History of Medicine, University of Oxford, 1972-88; Senior Research Fellow of All Souls’ College Oxford from 1988 onward.

Top Doctors calling, Top Doctors calling…

Lord Oliver Franks was Chairman of the Wellcome Trust and Chairman of the Governors at the United Oxford Hospitals.

Oliver Franks was educated at Bristol Grammar School and Queen’s College, Oxford. He became an Oxford academic and Provost of Worcester College, Oxford. He served as Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Glasgow, 1936-46.

Oliver Franks married Barbara Tanner and she gave birth to three daughters. She died in 1987.

At the beginning of WWI Franks was employed by the Ministry of Supply, where he rose to become Permanent Secretary by 1945. During the war he achieved fame by replacing the supplies after Dunkirk and also replaced supplies from losses in the Battle of the Atlantic. After the war he became Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Supply.

Franks was a Liberal and a great supporter of Clement Attlee. He had frequent conversations with Churchill and Nehru. After a spell as Provost of his alma mater, Queen’s College, 1946-8, Franks was summoned by Bevin in 1947 to head the British delegation at the European discussions about George Marshall’s proposals of aid. He helped found NATO and became chairman of the Organisation for European Economic Cooperation. Franks had on his staff at various times Philby, Burgess and Maclean.

Franks was Ambassador to the US, 1948-52. When he returned to England from Washington he took up the post of Chairman of Lloyds Bank which he held from 1954-62, remaining a Director until 1975. Between 1960-62 Franks was also Chairman of Friends Provident. He was a member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Group.

In 1982, aged 77 yrs, Franks was appointed to Chair the Inquiry into the events leading to the Falklands War. The Franks Report, 1983, came up trumps – it was concluded that Thatch et al bore no responsibility for the invasion, despite their wilful ignoring of warnings that Argentina were going to invade the islands. Members of the Franks Committee included paedophiles’ friends Lord Anthony Barber (see post ‘Events, Dear Boy, Events’) and Merlyn Rees (see post ‘Additional Security Measures’).

Franks was Chancellor of the University of East Anglia, 1965-84; Chairman of the Honours Scrutiny Committee, the President Kennedy Memorial Centre, the Rhodes Trust and the Rockerfeller Foundation.

In 1984 there was another Inquiry concerning the Falklands, the Falkland Islands Commission of Inquiry into a hospital fire, Chaired by Sir David Calcutt. Calcutt also Chaired two Inquiries into the workings of the press.

In 1989 Calcutt Chaired the Committee on Privacy and Related Matters. The following year, Calcutt recommended a Press Complaints Commission to replace the Press Council. In 1993 Calcutt Chaired the Review of Press Self-Regulation.

Calcutt went to Cranleigh School and then read law and music at King’s College, Cambridge. He was called to the Bar in 1955 and joined Middle Temple. Sir Ronnie Waterhouse was a member of Middle Temple. Calcutt worked on the Western Circuit and also worked for ‘The Times Law Reports’, of which he later became Editor.

In 1973, Calcutt prosecuted Maureen Bingham, the wife of the Naval Officer who had passed secrets to the Russians. She received two-and-a-half years and Calcutt, in the Court of Appeal, successfully argued that contacting a member of the Soviet Embassy was a sufficient preliminary step in the venture to justify her conviction.

Calcutt was Head of Chambers which he ruled in, some said, a benevolent dictatorship from 1976-88. He became Deputy Chairman of Somerset Quarter Sessions in 1970 and then became a Recorder of the Crown Court. Calcutt was Chairman of the Bar in 1984, often the final step to an appointment to the High Court bench. Instead Calcutt became Master of Magdelene College, Cambridge where he had taught law in the 1970s. There was a row over the appointment with allegations that it had been ‘undemocratic’.

From 1974-77, Calcutt was an inspector for the Department of Trade into the Cornhill Consolidated property crash and over the next 20 years he headed numerous inquiry boards. He was Chairman of the Takeover Panel, and also the Home Secretary’s independent assessor on compensation for miscarriages of justice, awarding nearly £1 m to Paddy Hill of the Birmingham Six and £30,000 to Colin Wallace, wrongly convicted of killing his friend in a long-running cause célèbre in which Wallace was championed by Paul Foot. Colin Wallace was an MI5 officer who alleged that factions of the security services in N Ireland were doing things that they shouldn’t be.

Calcutt was regarded as generous in his compensation awards, but he pleased neither the public nor Winston Silcott, whom he awarded £10,000 for the time he was wrongly in custody awaiting trial. Calcutt did explain his assessments – a policy not adopted by his successor.

Calcutt was a member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. Which was notorious for making insultingly low payments to people who had suffered serious injury.

In 1978 Calcutt was appointed a judge of the Appeal Court of the Channel Islands. He was Chancellor of the dioceses of Exeter and Bristol from 1971 and in Europe from 1983.

Calcutt married Barbara Walker, a psychiatric social worker in 1969. They spent a lot of time on Exmoor, as well as at their main home near Winchester Cathedral.

The Calcutts knew what Jeremy Thorpe was doing and probably a lot of other people as well.

David Calcutt was knighted in 1991, the year of the Great Cover-Up, in which witnesses to the wrongdoing of the Westminster Paedophile Ring either had their lives destroyed or were given honours, depending upon what sort of witnesses they were.

In Memoriam – Professor Robert Owen

Professor Robert Owen OBE died on 7 March 2018 at the age of 96. Tributes have been paid to Prof Owen, a ‘leading orthopaedic surgeon whose many achievements included treating children with scoliosis all over the world’.

Robert Owen was born in Chwilog near Pwllheli and grew up on the family farm. He was head boy at Pwllheli Grammar School and had aspirations to be a vet until his younger brother William fell off a bike. Robert, then a teenager, took him to see a doctor. Prof Owen’s daughter Gilly explained that Robert ‘actually passed out during the operation, but the doctor told him he wasn’t going to be a vet, he was going to go into medicine, and said that he knew the Dean at Guy’s Hospital in London – and that was that’.

After qualifying at Guy’s and serving for three years in the RAF, Prof Owen decided on a career in orthopaedics. He had a special interest in disabilities in children, and this interest led him to set up the Clwyd Special Riding Centre. He was especially interested in scoliosis and held clinics in places as diverse as Brazil, Africa, Nepal and Norway.

Prof Owen’s daughter Gilly told the ‘Daily Post’ that one of his students, who is now in his 80s, is coming from Brazil to attend his funeral. Prof Owen met his wife Meg in West Kirby – they had two children, Gilly and David.

Robert Owen was awarded an OBE for services to medicine in 1990 – his achievements included co-founding the Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and helping establish Robert Owen House at Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool to accommodate the relatives of patients. He saw the need for such a place after having major heart surgery at Broadgreen.

Robert Owen was the Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Liverpool University and had been a consultant and Professor at Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Alder Hey.

Gilly commented that her dad ‘was also a very charismatic presence who would cajole people to do things before they even realised. He was so proud to be Welsh. It meant everything to him and he was a member of the Gorsedd of Bards. He was a modest man and a hard act to follow’.

Professor Owen’s funeral is taking place at Rhos-on-Sea Methodist Church on March 23.

Gilly told the ‘Daily Post’ that her dad ‘had more energy than anyone I’ve ever met, even during these last few months’.

That’s true – on each occasion that I met Prof Owen he was full of beans and utterly charming. However I too have a lot of energy – probably as much as Prof Owen – which has enabled me to work long hours writing this blog exposing Robert Owen’s friends and colleagues who facilitated a sex trafficking ring in north Wales. For the man who has just turned his toes up is THE Robert Owen who co-ordinated the cover-up of the serious criminality of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones, Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), Gwynedd Social Services and Gwynedd and Clwyd Health Authorities in 1988 (see post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’).

Documents in my possession demonstrate that whilst organising the ‘investigation’ into my complaint in his capacity as the Medical Ombudsman for the Welsh Office, Owen was receiving unofficial mail regarding me – and taking phone calls – at his home in Colwyn Bay and furthermore some of that information was coming from the corrupt GP Dr DGE Wood, who was assisting with running the sex abuse gang yet hadn’t been named in my complaint and was no longer involved in my ‘care’ (see post ‘The Blog Post That Was Hacked Can Now Be Read’). Owen had copies of the documentation which I now have – detailing the criminal activities of Dafydd et al and plans to frame me for serious crimes whilst Andrew Park, the corrupt lawyer employed by the Welsh Office, admitted that I had not committed any such crimes.

Owen knew exactly what that lot were doing and he was their willing accomplice.

I have only recently noticed that some of the dates on the documentation related to Owen’s cover-up are inaccurate – someone either altered those dates after the cover-up or those documents were deliberately marked with inaccurate dates. I am currently trawling through those documents and correlating them with other documentation in order to try and work out exactly what has gone on.

I had always presumed that Owen was a man who represented the worst of the medical establishment and that he concealed the wrongdoing of Dafydd and the paedophile gang because he was the sort of man who just couldn’t bear to see medicine brought into disrepute. I thought for a long time that Owen held a Chair at Cardiff, but when I realised that he had a Chair at Liverpool, I presumed that he had also acted out of loyalty to the old boy’s network at Liverpool University Medical School – Dafydd is a graduate of Liverpool.

However the information that has been made public in these tributes to Robert Owen suggest something so much worse. Owen was most definitely Of The Paedophiles’ Friends. The paedophiles’ friends were using the Gorsedd of the Bards as a networking base and they had a stronghold at Pwhelli. Pwhelli was the base of the dreadful Glanville Owen who was the senior manager responsible for the children’s homes run by Gwynedd Social Services whilst the paedophile gang ran riot in those homes home (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’). Pwhelli also housed a number of corrupt police officers, lawyers and magistrates who could be relied upon to bang up victims of the paedophile gang (see post ‘A Bit More About Those Very Muddy Waters’ and ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’). The Godfather of Pwhelli High Society is Robyn Lewis, a retired solicitor and former Archdruid of the Gorsedd. Robyn Lewis will have known Robert Owen – they probably went to school with each other. It was Robyn Lewis who inducted the former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams into the Gorsedd.

Robert Owen led the charge against Edwina Hart when she tried to prevent the paedophiles’ friends of Liverpool from killing those citizens of north Wales who had spilt the paedophiles’ pints (see post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University!’).

I note that Robert Owen was an alumnus of Guy’s. So he will have known of Dafydd’s mate Professor Jim Watson, who worked at the Maudsley with Dafydd, then passed through St George’s Hospital Medical School and then set up a sex therapy clinic at Guy’s and St Thomas’s. In my post ‘Just A Language Divide?’ I speculated whether the Dafydd/Jim Watson network was responsible for the mad and violent Dr Andy Jones gaining a place at Guy’s. Andy had served in the RAF – and told me that Guy’s had been particularly welcoming to him because he had been in the RAF. Just like Robert Owen!

Owen’s own career as a Top Doctor seems to have had the serendipitous beginning that was so common among men of his generation. The swot of Pwhelli Grammar School came to the attention of a local Top Doctor who was mates with Someone Big in England…

For some reason Robert Owen was even more keen to conceal the wrongdoing of Tony Francis and Gwynedd Social Services than he was of Dafydd. Owen had a mountain of documentation that demonstrated that Francis and Lucille Hughes of Gwynedd Social Services were perjuring themselves and encouraging other people to do so in order to secure convictions against me and had illegally imprisoned me. Francis and Gwynedd Social Services were not mentioned in the Report that was written by Bluglass after the ‘investigation’ into my complaint – their criminal activities were simply not mentioned or referred to in any way.

Francis killed himself a few years ago when Operation Pallial re-opened the investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal and now Robert Owen has bitten the dust, so we cannot ask either of them why Francis and Gwynedd Social Services could break the law and no-one would even mention it.

Bluglass, Dafydd, Lucille and Robyn Lewis – you are still alive and kicking, although for how much longer I do not know. Come out of your caves and enlighten us all. Was Tony Francis abusing those kids himself or was he just a very good friend of those who were?

Regarding Owen’s activities – professional and charitable – at Alder Hey. Alder Hey found itself at the centre of a scandal when it was revealed that between 1988-95, children’s organs had been removed from their bodies without authorisation. Organs were retained in more than 2,000 pots containing body parts from around 850 infants. Alder Hey had also given thymus glands- removed from live children during heart surgery – to a pharmaceutical company for research in return for financial donations. Alder Hey also stored without consent 1,500 fetuses that were miscarried, stillborn or aborted.

In 2001, the Redfern Report revealed that pathologist Professor Dick van Velzen – one of Robert Owen’s colleagues – had systematically ordered the illegal stripping of every organ from every child who had had a postmortem, even for the children of parents who specifically stated that they did not want a full post-mortem. van Velzen also falsified records and post-mortem reports and took records away with him when he left Alder Hey.

Alder Hey and Liverpool University knew there were risks in appointing Professor van Velzen but failed to supervise him. They failed to monitor his work or follow up complaints and missed numerous chances to discipline him.

The general public was scandalised by the conduct of Prof van Velzen. They shouldn’t have been. He was conducting himself in the way that numerous Top Doctors in the UK do, but no-one ever finds out. Much was made of the fact that van Velzen was Dutch. In my experience, nationality doesn’t play a major role in terms of the unscrupulousness of Top Doctors. van Velzen was appointed to Alder Hey in 1988 – the year in which Robert Owen concealed a paedophile gang led by Top Doctors in north Wales.

I am left wondering why Robert Owen only bagged an OBE for his valiant effort in concealing the paedophile gang that included Sir Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s friend and the Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party. I suspect that it was another example of the entrenched anti-Welsh feeling among the higher echelons of British society. The paedophiles’ friends of Wales rarely end up with anything more than an OBE or MBE – Peter Higson, David Prichard, Elfed Roberts, Keith Thomson, D.G.E. Wood, none of them hit the criteria for a CBE. Robert Bluglass, Tom Burns et al received CBEs – and the biggest crooks of the lot are sitting in the Lords…

How are you this morning Lords Kinnock/Wigley/Roger Roberts?

As for those of you to whom Lilibet would only give an OBE – what a bunch of sad, crawling, pathetic bastards you are. One presumes that you subscribe to the notion that gongs really mean something because you all appeared grinning in the local media when you were honoured. Didn’t you notice that none of you won the big prizes?

Lord Roger Roberts is a Methodist Minister from Llandudno – he’ll probably be conducting Owen’s funeral.

So who’s going to bite the dust next then? I’ll get a crate of champagne in because with any luck there’ll be a few more paedophiles’ friends pegging out over the next year, a lot of them are now in their 80s.

Just A Language Divide?

I was an undergrad at UCNW (now Bangor University) between 1981-84.

When I arrived to study at Bangor in Oct 1981 I knew very little about Welsh politics or the battles over the Welsh language. I was aware that there was a struggle going on because the English media had of course reported on the Meibion Glyndwr firebombing campaign and I remember that an insulting letter had been published in (I think) the Daily Telegraph asserting that absolutely no-one spoke Welsh any longer, that the demands of Welsh language campaigners were fatuous nonsense and a manifestation of ‘extremist’ politics. A furious response was elicited from north Wales and I remembered that someone – a Council leader or Mayor or someone in some such position – had appeared on TV presenting his case in Welsh. There were a lot of Welsh teachers at my school in Somerset but nearly all of them were from south Wales and I can only think of one from the north who probably spoke Welsh.

When I went for my interview at Bangor I wandered around the town and was able to report back to everyone in Somerset that yes, they do speak Welsh, I heard it in every shop that I entered and it really was not a case of ‘we went in a pub where they were all speaking English but as soon as we went in they started speaking Welsh’. I also noticed the graffiti all over Top College screaming ‘English Go Home’ – there were slogans in Welsh as well, but obviously I didn’t know what they said. However I did manage to work out what the notices insisting on ‘Dim Smygu’ meant and my translation was confirmed when I heard Welsh people reiterating the instruction as ‘dim smocio’.

When I arrived at Bangor to live and study, the bad feeling between some Welsh speaking students and the rest of the college could not be missed. The student newspaper was reporting on a huge punch-up that had taken place the term previously, in which a student from south Wales had been chucked through a window in the Students Union by a group of students from north Wales. The man who had gone through the window had been trying to intervene in a dispute between a group of Welsh speaking students and English students. The man from south Wales had told the Welsh speakers ‘I’m Welsh too’ – he was informed that ‘You’re not fucking Welsh’ and was thrown through the window.

One of the halls of residence was a Welsh speaking hall and it was made quite clear that if non-Welsh speakers crossed the threshold we’d be thumped. In terms of student protests, all the action took place at the Welsh speaking hall – at one point the students conducted quite an impressive sit-in which lasted a long time. They were sustained by food and essentials being delivered to them through the upper floor windows by their mates who had set up a system using ropes and pulleys. From time to time groups of Welsh speaking students would tour the university and tear down every notice that was written in English.

After a while I learnt that there was rather more to what was going on than was made public. Rats! It’s ‘that woman’ (as Dafydd used to refer to me) again – she’s been digging…

I found out that students had applied to live in the Welsh hall because understandably they liked the idea of living in a Welsh speaking environment – but that the hall was dominated by a small group of complete bastards of whom all the other students were terrified and who were making their lives a misery. The bastards were alleged to be out of control and one of them – I think that they were all male – was seriously violent. The non-bastards lived in fear of being seen socialising with us. The Welsh students had their own Students Union – it was above the Belle Vue pub – and they would not set foot in our Students Union. The rule was enforced by a three line whip from the bastards and a kicking would be applied to anyone defying orders.

Years later I discovered that the Principal of UCNW, Sir Charles Evans – Dafydd and Gwynne’s mate, who was kind enough to allow so many people involved in the facilitating of a paedophile and sex trafficking gang to set up home in the college – was perceived to have handled the grievances of the Welsh speaking students so badly that his intransigence had made the situation much, much worse. Charles Evans had grown up in north Wales, was a Welsh speaker himself, went to Shrewsbury School and then to Oxford University. He had worked as a neurosurgeon in Liverpool (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’). Charles Evans was one of the 1953 conquering heroes of Everest – the leader of the Everest expedition was Lord John Hunt who worked for the security services and later became the Commander of Sandhurst (see post ‘The Discovery Of A Whole New Galaxy’) – and took the view that the best way of doing things was to do what you wanted and bloody well ensure that the rest of the world did what it was told. This no doubt stood him in very good stead when he was climbing mountains and it probably helped when he developed multiple sclerosis as well, but it wasn’t the best way of managing a university whilst employing some of your mates who were running a paedophile gang.

I have mentioned previously that in 1979 the problems at UCNW were so severe that Dafydd Wigley, the then MP for Caernarfon, demanded that Shirley Williams, then then Secretary of State for Education, hold an inquiry into the management of the college. It didn’t happen and the chaos and unhappiness continued. It would of course all have been brought to an end if anyone had blown the whistle on the paedophile gang which were supplying children to civil servants and politicians, some of which would soon hold office in Thatcher’s Gov’t. But no-one did because they were all so bloody compromised, Shirl and Dafydd Wigley included.

Not only did I find out that the Welsh speaking students were boycotting the English Students Union, but they were also refusing to use the Student Health Centre – the Health Centre which was run by Dr DGE Wood and employed Gwynne the lobotomist, who were facilitating the paedophile gang. By 1983/84, the Welsh students were going so apeshit about the Student Health Centre that they were demanding the sacking of DGE Wood. Wood was furious – his story was that they were ‘Welsh extremists’ and wanted him out because he didn’t speak Welsh. From what I know about matters north Wales, that is often the excuse used to demand someone’s removal when there is a rather bigger problem which no-one dares actually admit to. It can be used to remove someone honest who is in danger of uncovering a barrel of shite – but it is also used to remove someone causing serious problems who is enjoying the protection of the highest echelons and cannot be removed any other way. What if some of those Welsh students knew about the paedophile gang and Wood assisting Dafydd and Gwynne into forcing young women into prostitution? The issue between the Welsh students and the Student Health Centre COULDN’T have really been language – Gwynne, like Dafydd, was from north Wales, spoke Welsh and made a great pretence of defending all things and all people Welsh. The Student Health Centre nurse Liz Stables was from Anglesey and her first language was Welsh – she too staunchly defended everything Welsh.  Things got so bad that the University dispatched Liz up to the Welsh Students Union in an attempt to get them to drop their opposition to Wood and tempt them into the Student Health Centre. They did not succumb.

Wood was completely shafting English students who did not know about Dafydd and Gwynne and their dreadful reputation. Whilst giving every pretence of being a sensible rather conservative old fashioned GP, Wood sent certain students whom he targeted into the hands of a brutal sex trafficking gang, at a time before the general public were ever aware that such practices existed in the UK. He then systematically wrecked the lives of anyone who dared complain or caught a glimpse of the enormity of the wrongdoing. Wood even arranged jobs abroad for some people to get them out of the way even when the idea of emigrating horrified them and they were barely coping with life in the UK. A student whom I knew at Bangor found out about the corruption in the North Wales Police – she and her house mate had been constantly threatened, harassed and stitched up by the drug squad and I suspect that they realised that this was part of something much bigger. She infuriated Wood because she refused to go to Australia to take up a job that he was attempting to coerce her into accepting. Her housemate left Bangor to take up a job in the US – which as I remember was something to do with Wood’s wife, who was a lecturer in the School of Plant Biology. I’d be most interested to find out whether those two women are still alive – or whether, like so many people who knew that something terrible was going on in north Wales at that time, they have been killed in car accidents/found dead of drug overdoses/not managed to survive heroic attempts of Top Doctors to save their lives but instead have succumbed to conditions which other people usually survive.

Wood’s victims were English because the sort of better educated Welsh speakers whose children went to Bangor to study would never have handed their own children over to Dafydd and Gwynne.

This was brought home to me a few years ago when someone whom I became friends with in my 40s told me that she had begun a degree in music at Bangor in 1981, but withdrew after a truly unhappy time. She was a Welsh speaker, had been terrorised by the intimidating bastards in the Welsh speaking hall, had alleged that Professor William Matthias the Great was trying it on with the students and she had ended up with serious depression. Her mum and dad looked after her at home on the grounds that under no circumstances was she going to see the psychiatrist at UCNW – Gwynne the lobotomist. His reputation was well-known in Wales – it was English people who were fed bollocks by Wood about Gwynne’s ‘considerable success’.

I have mentioned the very bad behaviour of a small number of Welsh speaking students. There were a small number of self-appointed leaders of the English speaking students who might like to explain a few things to the police even after all these years.

Fiona Woolmer, the Wimmin’s Officer, who bombarded female undergrads with shite that she believed was coming from a feminist perspective. Woolmer knew all about the St David’s laundry (see post ‘The BMA And It’s Ethics’) and it was Fiona who was producing the literature to give to female students with advice on how to obtain an abortion privately in Chester because abortions could not be obtained anywhere in north Wales on the NHS. She will have known that this was a result of the crazed, abusive local Top Doctors and she will have known about the bloody trade in local disadvantaged girls and women – including the victims of the paedophile gang – and in their babies. Unless she was completely daft she will also have understood the horror within the arrangement that women seeking an abortion on the NHS had to stay at the North Wales Hospital to be ‘assessed’ by Dafydd – although they would be denied an abortion anyway, because of the Top Doctors arrangement. Like me, Fiona must have realised that there was an issue of disappearing babies. Fiona didn’t utter a word about any of it.

Duncan Orme, the Welfare Officer – who the last I heard just a few years ago was the Financial Director for an NHS Trust in Staffordshire. Duncan was the first person apart from Brown whom I consulted about Gwynne the lobotomist. Duncan admitted that Gwynne was a disaster and he confirmed that there had been attempted suicides because of Williams’s conduct. When I did not back down and stated that I did not intend to withdraw my complaint Duncan told me that I would get a ‘bad name’ for myself if I didn’t keep quiet about this, crapped himself and fled.

Well Duncan, who do you think has ended up with a bad name now then? Someone who was targeted by a gang of paedophiles and by a miracle survived whilst many more of their victims were found dead, or a dipstick like you who is working in a senior capacity in the most disgraced region of the UK’s NHS, which has become a byword for patients dying as a result of the decisions taken by you and your colleagues?

Fran Tate. Tate became the Welfare Officer after I graduated and remained there for years. Fran also worked for the CAB when she was young – and I am told has returned there again now that she has retired. The CAB which included among its senior managers Lucille Hughes – Dafydd’s mistress, former Director of Gwynedd Social Services and facilitator of the paedophile gang. Tate ended up as Head of Student Services and spent many happy years conducting personal vendettas against people who had spilt the paedophiles’ pints – she came after me on two occasions (see post ‘Disability Support’).

Some years ago allegations flew after Tate was appointed to a job in the University for which she wasn’t qualified and couldn’t do, but for which she was paid an awful lot of money. I was told variously that she had dirt on the VC, dirt on the VC’s wife and dirt on a friend of the VC. No, I very much doubt that she did – all three of those people had spilt the paedophiles’ pints themselves and one of them ended up dying at the hands of the Top Doctors. Fran was a mate of Dafydd and Lucille’s network and that gets people a long way, including into the Lords. So how did Fran wangle a job if the most senior person in the University was not a paedophiles’ friend? Quite simply – the VC’s wife died and whilst she was dying, for many months Bangor University was run by the Senior PVC, the late Professor Fergus Lowe. Fungus could not be described as a paedophiles’ friend, because Fungus wasn’t anybody’s friend. However Fungus had overthrown Dafydd in the School of Psychology back in the 1980s and had implemented an equally tyrannical regime built on his knowledge of the paedophiles’ friends and their activities (see post ‘He’s Not The Messiah, He’s A Very Naughty Boy’). Fungus wasn’t as thick as many of those we know and love and he wasn’t a member of the Mafia of Drips either – he’ll have known everything about all of them and will have used it in every way that he could. Fran bagged the job that everybody knew that she shouldn’t have had whilst Fungus had his hands on the organs of government at Bangor.

Just clearing a few names Fran! My only regret is that Fungus died unexpectedly (yes, another toxic git who would have been in a position to do massive damage who pegged out just as the demands for a re-investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were made in Parliament a few years ago) so never lived to read this blog. He certainly knew that I was planning to expose them all – it was well known that I thought that it would be entertaining to stand up in public on an occasion when the wonders of Fungus and the School of Psychology were being extolled and yell out ‘He’s Not The Messiah, He’s A Very Naughty Boy’ and detail his crimes. Before I left Bangor, on every occasion on which I was having coffee with a mate or even just chatting to someone around the University, I’d turn around and there would be Fungus standing right behind me listening in. It happened so frequently that it will not have been a coincidence. Oh well the old bugger’s dead, but all of those who toadied to him are still with us.

I suspect that Fungus and/or Dafydd hold the key to yet another north Wales mystery that I have pondered over for a long while. I have described on this blog previously how when I lived near Bethesda in the 1990s one of my neighbours, a young man in the RAF, announced his intentions to read medicine. This man was able but what really freaked Bethesda out was that he was quite mad and given to outbursts of violence. He kicked someone’s cat across the garden on the grounds that he didn’t like cats. He then acquired a pup but didn’t seem able to train it – as a result the pup wouldn’t do things like come when it was called or walk on a lead, so his way of dealing with this was to completely lose his rag and inflict uncontrolled violence on the pup. One one occasion he injured the pup so seriously that it nearly died and the vet threatened to prosecute the potential Top Doctor if there was a repeat performance. Some time after this his girlfriend left him, taking their baby and denied him access on the grounds that he had been violent to her and was a danger to their baby. Neighbours expressed serious concerns that one day this man might turn up in a hospital near them.

Despite all that I knew about the wrongdoing of the Top Doctors, I did not think that this would happen. I knew that this man had experienced some sort of breakdown whilst in the RAF – according to some sources as a result of some psychological experiments in which he had participated – and one only had to talk to him for about 10 minutes to realise that something was wrong. Then he told me that his first choice of medical school was Guys and Tommys. I knew that there was stiff competition for places at this institution – particularly for mature students – and I also knew that medical schools obsess about students with any sort of perceived mental health problem and were turning down applications from high performing students who had previously suffered from anorexia. I therefore presumed that a man who was identifiably mad with a history of violence would not slip through even the very inadequate net of the Top Doctors. Furthermore, he had taken a job at Ysbyty Gwynedd as a porter during a gap year to Experience Life In A Hospital. He certainly did – I was told that he was known to be having sex with a whole variety of people on the premises during working hours and indeed was being described to third parties as the porter who ‘shags anything that moves’.

So imagine my surprise when he greeted me one day and cheerily told me that he had been for his interview at Guys and Tommys, that he had had a brilliant time with them and that they had observed that he was ex-forces which was great by them. He was in!

As the jaws of the good burghers of Bethesda hit the floor, the budding Top Doctor departed for London. He kept his cottage near Bethesda and returned from time to time. I was told that he had experienced another breakdown – however he wasn’t kicked off the course and I wondered if perhaps someone might have actually done the right thing for once, looked after him and made a positive difference. A few years later I bumped into him in Bangor – he was dressed in the sort of gear that Chris Eubank wears, which is a matter of personal choice but was a bit unusual for Bangor High Street. He told me that he had qualified, worked for a while – and had now been given a five year contract with the North West Wales NHS Trust as a psychiatrist in the Hergest Unit! He explained that the Trust had great problems attracting British graduates, so they snapped him up immediately.

About a year later I had yet another massive battle with the Hergest Unit, the one which culminated in the Hergest Unit trying to frame me for ‘threatening to kill Alun Davies’. I was told that this man had been appointed as my doctor. I didn’t actually mention all that I knew about him, I just told the Hergest Unit that he was my former neighbour, I had known him personally for a number of years and that it would be totally inappropriate for him to be my doctor. I was simply told that he was my doctor and that was that. At the same time, the Hergest Unit appointed a healthcare assistant who was actually one of the students whom I was teaching in the local FE college in Bangor as one of the staff on the ward to which I had been admitted. According to the Hergest Unit there was not a problem with that either. I got off lightly – I was told by one Hergest patient that her named Angel had been at school with her and had bullied her throughout their time there and continued with very similar conduct when in post at the Hergest.

As part of my complaint about the numerous incidents of gross misconduct on the part of the NW Wales NHS Trust at that time, I made representation to the GMC about my former neighbour and gave them the reasons why he was unfit to practice and the many examples of unacceptable conduct that had been evident on his part whilst I was in the Hergest Unit, yet alone for the many previous years throughout which I’d known him. I received a letter from the GMC telling me that they would not be investigating my complaint against him further – the Top Doctor himself had chosen not to comment in response to my complaint, but Keith Thomson, the CEO of the NW Wales NHS Trust, had written to the GMC explaining that there were no concerns about this man’s conduct and that I had made ‘outrageous allegations’ about his staff.

Some two years later I was told that the Top Doctor had carried out such a violent attack on his wife that she had been sectioned as a consequence of her own distress and that his two children had been taken into care as a result of serious neglect. Neighbours alleged that he had terrorised and controlled his wife, not allowing her to leave the house or to speak to anyone.

I have previously not named this Top Doctor, because I accept that he had very big problems of his own – however, that lot just won’t come clean and we are still hearing how all the NHS needs is a few more billion and what a problem the bastard patients are who are all violent/old/obese/miss their appointments.

So would anyone like to explain how Dr Andy Jones ever gained a place at Guys and Tommys, qualified and then worked for a number of years at Ysbyty Gwynedd? Perhaps the hospital chaplain the Rev Wynne Roberts could shed some light on this – Wynne was a friend of Andy’s, knew much of what I have written about here and also knew that patients at the Hergest Unit were being abused. That’s Wynne the hospital chaplain who was sacked from his previous position as a Church in Wales vicar after having an extra-marital affair with a parishioner, who sits on Mental Health Tribunals as well as on various service users and carers committees in north Wales and was or is a member of the Ethics Committee for the School of Healthcare Sciences at Bangor University (see post ‘Music Therapy Anyone?’).

Outrageous appointments and behaviour rather than outrageous allegations I think Thomson.

The reason that I always wondered whether Fungus or Dafydd were involved with the inexplicable acceptance of Andy Jones as a student at Guys and Tommys was that the only connection that Andy had with the healthcare or academic world was his brother, who had at some point been associated with the School of Psychology at Bangor. I was told in about 1990 that Andy’s brother ‘was a psychologist at Bangor University’ and that Andy was both envious of and felt overshadowed by him. Andy’s brother would definitely have known Fungus if he’d been working in the School of Psychology at that time and if he’d been there since just two years or so earlier he’d definitely have known Dafydd as well – Andy’s family were from Anglesey which was Dafydd’s domain, so they may well have known Dafydd anyway. North Wales heaved with people who seemed to think that the best career move that they could make was to go and have a word with dear old Dafydd and toady like there was no tomorrow.

I think that this might have been the reason why Dafydd found me so hard to cope with after I failed to accept his generous offer of a place at Liverpool Medical School in return for dropping my complaint about him – Dafydd really freaked out on the phone after this and yelled at me ‘any NORMAL woman would never carry on like you, any NORMAL woman would have some respect’ – there were quite extensive guidelines given as to what any NORMAL woman does, but I wasn’t taking notes at the time so I didn’t catch all the criteria. I also regret that the name of the Professor at Liverpool with whom Dafydd claimed to be mates and who was going to get me the place if I dropped my complaint escaped me – he was definitely Professor Richard someone, but whereas I was usually ready for a good laugh when Dafydd got going I was so gobsmacked at the overt attempt at bribery that his surname didn’t register. I’m sure that one of the other corrupt Top Docs knows who the Chair of Serious Organised Crime at Liverpool was.

I note that Andy applied to a London medical school – the usual avenues of cronyism and nepotism for the families of paedophiles’ friends in north Wales was Cardiff or Liverpool. It is clear from this blog that Dafydd had plenty of contacts among corrupt Top Docs in London, but his old mate Jim Watson from the Maudsley later established a sex therapy empire at Guys and Tommys and then became Head of the Academic Department pf Psychiatry there – Watson didn’t retire until 2000, so he will have still been in post when Andy Jones was offered a place at Guys and Tommys and throughout Andy’s training (see post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’).

The hopelessness of the support from the Top Doctors for students in distress at UCNW was evident a few months before the finals in early 1984 (or it might have been late in 1983) when a student hung himself in the male hall Emrys Evans. I stress the hopelessness of the support from the Top Doctors – although there were the paedophiles’ friends on the loose within UCNW, the college was actually an incredibly friendly institution and the students were a nice lot, as were many staff. The problem was the people who were being to paid to look after the welfare of the students. People were horrified when the news got out that someone had been found hanging in Emrys Evans – it was said that one of the cleaners had found him. It transpired that it was one of the Welsh speaking students from the seriously dysfunctional School of Agriculture – in which Mary Wynch had been working when Dafydd had unlawfully arrested and banged her up in the North Wales Hospital and which was ruled over by the dreadful J.B. Owen from who students were fleeing (see post ‘Not Seen Since The 80s – Carwyn’).

None of us knew anything about the dead student at all. Well he’d been prevented from getting to know any of us by the regime ruled over by Big Bastard from the Welsh speaking hall – who I seem to remember was an agric himself – and he wasn’t going to risk encountering Gwynne and Dafydd even if they did speak the same language. The warden of Emrys Evans was Tony Jones who had links to some of the corrupt police officers in the North Wales Police and who got on very well with some of the students but made the lives of others such a misery that they lived in fear of him. I really do wonder what was happening to that student to cause him to hang himself.

There were other shenanigans that I have touched on previously going on in the English Students Union which were widely known about – the Irish student Aidan who had links with the IRSP (Irish Republican Socialist Party) and was doing a roaring trade in copies of ‘The Starry Plough’; the scandal involving the NUS President who nicked all the funds and was booted out; the man called Martyn who led the Gay Rights Soc – the Gay Rights Society was particularly active at Bangor and Martyn seemed to do very well campaigning on a UK-wide level; and the Bangor student who got beaten up at the NUS conference because he supported the SDP. The madness prevailing in the Students Union at Bangor must have been known about by the NUS exec at a national level – Sue Slipman from Lampeter had been the Communist President of the NUS a few years previously and had then joined Dr Death in the SDP in 1981, she’ll have known something about it. The Sue Slipman who became tangled up with the NCCL during its paedophiles’ rights years and went on to a glorious career Chairing NHS Trusts (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’). The dreadful Phil Woolas, a twat of the highest order, NUS President 1984-86- and later the Blairite Minister for Immigration who ended up leaving politics under a cloud – will have known about some of the action at Bangor as well.

Whilst I was a student I was told by a local Welsh speaker that most of the students in the Welsh speaking hall ended up as teachers in Gwynedd or working for Gwynedd County Council because they refused to work through the medium of English – those were really the only professional jobs which existed in which one would never have to speak English. When I was older I met a few such people who had worked for Gwynedd County Council – after a few years they were leaving in distress, some of them having taken extended periods of sick leave for serious work related stress. The name Dafydd Iwan was mentioned to me a number of times in terms of the poisonous regime which he was alleged to have cultivated in his capacity as the leader of Gwynedd County Council and who was ruthlessly hounding people who were not members of his clique.

Dafydd Iwan did of course write a tribute song for Dr Dafydd Alun Jones – on the grounds that Dafydd was a Welsh hero and leading the field in PTSD work. Dafydd only started claiming to be a PTSD expert relatively late in his career – it pretty much coincided with the demands for an inquiry into the suspected paedophile ring which was thought to be operating in the children’s homes run by Gwynedd and Clwyd Councils.

Another ditty from the pen of Dafydd Iwan is ‘Ciosg Talysarn’, a song about the telephone box in Talysarn which was reputed to be bugged by MI5. Which it might well have been – I imagine that north Wales was crawling with people working for MI5, after all there was Irish Republican activity in the Students Union at Bangor University. There was also a paedophile ring in operation in the region – a paedophile ring which it has now been admitted was being concealed by the security services because it involved a Minister in Thatcher’s Gov’t. I tell you which telephone box MI5 will have been bugging though Dafydd Iwan – it will have been the ciosg in Rachub. Because that was the one that I was using in my attempts to pursue my complaints about Dafydd and the paedophiles and for my calls to friends to give them the latest info that I’d dug up on Dafydd et al. It was my friends who were found dead and hounded out of jobs in academia and the media, not yours. You remained in Gwynedd County Council and pursued your record producing activities with SAIN, your brother Alun Ffred – a UCNW graduate himself -had a media career with HTV and S4C, took over as leader of the revamped Gwynedd County Council in 1996 after the old Gwynedd County Council conveniently disappeared upon the publication of the Jillings Report (see post ‘It’s A Piece Of Cake’) and then became an AM. Were you ever the subject of an attempt to frame you for serious offences? Er – no, you weren’t. Bryn Fon was, Dewi Prysor was and so were scores of the victims of the paedophile gang. But as long as that gang carried on giving Sir Peter Morrison et al access to the kids in care any mate of Dafydd Alun Jones’s was untouchable.

Now you tell me who fell foul of the security services – because it really doesn’t look as though it was you or Lucille Hughes…

My post ‘Are You Local?’ described how children from the Ty’r Felin children’s home in Bangor – run by Gwynedd County Council – were trafficked to various locations, including to Dolphin Square in London. The girls were taken to locations on the doorstep of Ty’r Felin what with there being a greater demand for the sexual services of under-aged girls than boys – a favourite location was The Octagon, a rather dodgy nightclub that opened in Bangor in the summer of 1984. There was an opening night with a celeb in attendance. Was it Dafydd Iwan, hired to give everyone a round of Yma O Hyd? Er, no. The star of the evening was Samantha Fox, singer of the unforgettable lyrics ‘Touch me/I Want To Feel Your Body Next To Mine’. The evening was advertised in the Bangor and Anglesey Mail and a photo was provided of an ageing local journo staring at Samantha’s assets. The message was quite clear – sexual services from teenagers available here…

I’m sure that Samantha Fox turned up to any venue who paid her to do so, but I wonder who had the idea of using her to let everyone know what would be on offer in that nightclub? I’m also wondering who Samantha Fox’s agent was and who among the paedophiles’ friends might have known him/her.

The wimmin from the Rape Crisis group protested outside – but made no attempt to blow the whistle on the kids in care selling sex inside once the place was up and running. Well how could they – the funding for their group almost certainly came from Gwynedd County Council and Gwynedd Health Authority, Samantha Fox and the paedophile gang were their bread and butter.

The Octagon acquired a terrible reputation within months – drugs were sold on an industrial scale and a student was raped outside. The place soon became a no-go zone for students because of the grad bashing that was happening there. It was universally known as a pick-up joint in which very young girls were available. There were constant demands from local people for the place to be closed down. But for some reason the police, the magistrates and the Council just wouldn’t do it…

Welsh and English speakers alike, the people wrecking their lives were Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends – and of course their protectors troughing away in the Commons and the Lords and latterly the Senedd. They’ve screwed everyone for years.
