A Legend Lives

BBC News Wales have reported that 46,000 patients have had to find new Top Doctors in the past five years after GPs practices have shut. Last year’s closures were the highest in the five-year period, with the BMA saying the closures put ‘extra pressure’ on the system. The situation is particularly bad in north Wales, with many patients, including the elderly, having to travel many miles to see a GP. The patients will be on buses as well, not in expensive cars like the Top Docs.

Dr Charlotte Jones, Chair of the BMA’s GP Committee Wales, said surgeries were struggling to stay afloat due to problems recruiting and retaining doctors, the ‘sheer volume’ of workloads, ‘under-resourcing’ and ‘overwhelming bureaucracy’.

Duw it’s hard, with the Top Docs being among the highest paid people in Wales, with many of them working a whole three days/week and many now retiring at 55 yrs old .

Charlotte, can I ask if Dr D.G.E. Wood, who facilitated the trafficking gang in north Wales, is still playing a leading role in GP training in north Wales and the Royal College of GPs? In 2017 Dr Eamonn Jessup, a GP from north Wales, Spoke Out About The Crisis. Eamonn is or was a colleague of Wood’s, they were both popping over to Cyprus to hold clinics together!

BBC News Wales also reported today that homeless people in Wrexham – Wrexham now has one of the biggest homelessness problems in Wales – will be housed in shipping containers. Not permanently, that would be greedy of them. They will be housed in shipping containers over Christmas. They won’t all be able to fit into the shipping containers, because only a few shipping containers will be available and there are more homeless people than shipping containers, but at least a lucky few will have a shipping container over their heads for Christmas.

By the age of 40, D.G.E. Wood was living in the second most expensive house in the expensive (by Anglesey standards) village of Llandegfan. The most expensive house was owned by Top Doctor Terry Maxwell, the Medical Director of Ysbyty Gwynedd. Terry Maxwell presided over slaughter and scandal and was given a performance-related pay award in return for cutting the already terrible mental health services, in the run up to the Waterhouse Inquiry. After Maxwell did his best, many patients became destitute and some died. Maxwell was a heart and lung specialist who trained at Liverpool. Liverpool thought so much of Terry Maxwell that in 1984, Liverpool University rang up Terry Maxwell’s daughter Sonia and offered her a place to do medicine, even though she hadn’t applied to Liverpool. Sonia continued to turn her nose up at Liverpool and trained at one of the London hospitals instead. She returned to Gwynedd to practice as a GP in Llanberis. Sonia Maxwell is one of the GPs in Llanberis who unlawfully refused to treat a Hergest Unit patient who had complained after being wrongfully imprisoned on the basis of the perjury of Hergest staff. For further details see post ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’.

Some 20 years ago, a cardiologist from Ysbyty Gwynedd, Dr David Thomas, attempted suicide by driving his car over the edge of a mountain. He was sacked by Ysbyty Gwynedd, publicly denounced, sectioned and admitted to the Hergest Unit where all confidentiality was broken. I always wondered what it was that Dr Thomas had been so frightened of, particularly as it involved Terry Maxwell (see post ‘A Mystery From Twenty Years Ago’).

Let me remind the dedicated, committed, Top Docs of the wider UK of a few more of their activities.

Readers might remember that after Blair won his electoral landslide in May 1997, the Tories began ripping each others throats out and held a leadership contest. This was the moment that Heseltine had wanted, another chance for him to have a final stab at becoming Tory leader and eventually PM, but Hezza was getting on a bit and had previously experienced a heart attack when he was living it up in Venice in 1993. Hezza had been filmed climbing from a hospital trolley into an ambulance looking like death warmed up and later maintained that this was because he had gout. Hezza’s gout caused him to take four months off work and the gout also prevented him from conducting himself as usual ie. waving the Mace around, making weak jokes about the Labour Party, flicking his hairstyle about and generally being a tosser. He did make an appearance at the Party Conference, but what with that gout, he wasn’t up and leading them all in a rousing speech, he just entertained the crowd with a few arm movements.

The candidates for the Tory leadership in 1997 were Ken Clarke, Peter Lilley, William Hague, Michael Howard and John Redwood. Hague of course won, among much bad feeling, because the constituency parties had overwhelmingly wanted Ken Clarke, but the Parliamentary Party wanted Hague. The constituency parties were unaware that the Parliamentary Party were eternally grateful to Hague for organising the Waterhouse Inquiry, thus concealing the barrel of shit which was the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal and the key role that Thatcher’s personal friend, the Tory MP for Chester, Sir Peter Morrison – who had been found safely dead on 13 July 1995 – played in it. Bing Spear, the corrupt Chief Inspector of the Home Office Drugs Branch who was so accommodating re Dafydd (see post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’), had died on 9 July 1995. So that was two problems out of the way before the Waterhouse Inquiry.

Heseltine didn’t in the end stand in the leadership contest, although he was the stand-out favourite when John Major announced his resignation. Heseltine is someone who knows about the Westminster Paedophile Ring and the role that Dafydd and the gang played in it. Heseltine was the Tory MP for Tavistock in Devon, 1966-74 and knew all about his fellow Devon MP, Jeremy Thorpe. Heseltine then served as the MP for Henley, 1974-2001 and held numerous Ministerial, Shadow Cabinet and Cabinet roles, under Heath, Thatcher and Major. He was in Gov’t with Peter Morrison and Norman St John Stevas – another MP whom I was told when I worked in London was known to be abusing boys – and will have known about the rest of the allegations of organised abuse that were concealed until very recently. Heseltine came from Swansea and there was an abuse gang in west Wales with links to Dafydd’s crew in north Wales.

Even Heseltine’s much trumpeted success at regenerating Liverpool, a cause close to his heart, was achieved – if indeed it was achieved – as a result of his close working relationship with Sir Trevor Jones, the Liberal leader of Liverpool City Council. Trevor Jones was born in north Wales to Welsh parents and he was networked into the empire of Dafydd’s gang (see post ‘He Knows Where The Bodies Are Buried’). It was Heseltine who arranged for the first of five bi-annual National Garden Festivals to be held in Liverpool in 1984. Trevor Jones arranged for the City Council to delegate the bid to the Merseyside Development Corporation, of which Trevor Jones was a Director. More than 3 million people eventually attended. Two of those people were Brown and me. When Liz Stables, the Angel who worked at the Student Health Centre at Bangor University, was still pretending to be friends with Brown and me and was extracting information from us which she then relayed back to Dr D.G.E. Wood and others in Dafydd’s gang, Liz gave us a lift to Liverpool to go to the Garden Festival. Liz knew Liverpool well, she had been a teacher there in the 1960s and used to tell me about the girls in her class whom she knew were working as prostitutes. Liz kept in touch with some of them as their adult lives really hit the pits and they ended up addicted to Class A drugs, in prison etc. At the time I thought that Liz was showing genuine friendship to some people who’d had a terrible time, but now I know that Liz was mates with Dafydd et al and that Dafydd’s gang were procuring young people for sex work outside of north Wales, including in Liverpool, I find Liz’s interest in the lives of those women rather worrying. Liz left Liverpool and teaching in 1969 to train and then work as an Angel in the old C&A Hospital in Bangor, where Dafydd and the gang were operating…

My post ‘Those Who Are Ready To Serve’ provided details of Heseltine’s role in the future of Westland Helicopters, a small ailing company in Somerset, which employed Janet Mitchell, a girl who was one of my playmates when I was young and who knew what had happened/was happening to me in north Wales, who’s career took off like a rocket after Heseltine took a sudden inexplicable interest in Westland.

After deciding not to stand for the Tory leadership in 1997, Heseltine, a very rich man thanks to his property developing and publishing business, devoted himself to his arboretum and 50 acre garden. There is archive footage of Heseltine and his family being interviewed after Heseltine left politics and every one of them ends up in tears at the memory of poor old Hezza never becoming PM, including of course Hezza himself. Is it not touching that as with Thatch, the only time that these people show any emotion is when they are kicked out of high office or indeed don’t reach it?

One of the archive clips about Hezza enlightened me as to the reason why Hezza decided not to stand for the Tory leadership in 1997. It was as a result of a conversation that Hezza had with his Top Doctor, the cardiologist Peter Mills, under who’s care Hezza was after that nasty attack of gout. After his conversation with Peter Mills resulted in Hezza deciding not to stand himself, Hezza supported Ken Clarke for the leadership.

Peter Mills, like all the best Top Docs, will have known about the Westminster Paedophile Ring, but Mills will have had a particular hotline to and interest in Dafydd and the gang, because Peter Mills, when a young Top Doctor, had worked at St George’s Hospital Medical School, which for years concealed Dafydd’s gang and a linked paedophile/trafficking gang in south London.

In an interview about his career, Mills was quoted as saying: ‘My father was a GP but I was always rather rebellious and so chose to read biochemistry at Oxford. I realised I was wrong and changed to medicine when it became apparent I was more interested in people than science. In contrast to today’s young medics, who seem forced to decide at medical school which career path to follow in order to shape their CV, we had much more freedom to choose our speciality relatively later. I believe cardiology chose me, rather than the other way around. An unexpected vacancy arose at St Georges Hospital at Hyde Park Corner where I was a locum and so I was invited to study Cardiology.’

Not only did many of the staff at St George’s conceal organised abuse, but Professor Oliver Brooke was employed as a paediatrician there from the mid-1970s until he was jailed for the possession of child porn in 1986. Brooke was a key figure in a pan-European paedophile gang. After Brooke was jailed, his colleagues and friends remained working at St George’s colluding with the gang, some of them being active members. See post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’.

Ken Clarke knew what was going on at St George’s when Clarke was Health Minister and subsequently Secretary of State for Health, 1988-90. Furthermore, it was when Clarke was in Health that he and Thatch had to sort out a little local difficulty re St George’s. The original St George’s Hospital at Hyde Park Corner had been developed as a result of a bequest given by the Duke of Westminster in the 18th century. After St George’s had relocated to its new site in Tooting in 1980, the then Duke of Westminster, Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor, told Thatch and Ken Clarke that he wanted the market price for the original site which had been donated by his ancestor. The Hyde Park Corner site was a piece of Knightsbridge real estate worth millions. The Gov’t refused the Duke’s request, but instead resolved the problem by letting the Duke buy the Hyde Park Corner site for £6000.

The Duke of Westminster was the President of the City of Chester Conservative Party’s Constituency Association, the local MP being Sir Peter Morrison. Gyles Brandreth succeeded Morrison as Tory MP for Chester and Gyles has been frank that Morrison ‘having sex with little boys’ was openly gossiped about by members of the constituency association as well as local people whom Gyles met when he was campaigning. The Duke of Westminster was a close friend of Carlo. Peter Morrison’s sister Dame Mary Morrison spent most of her life as Woman of the Bedchamber to Lilibet.

Boys from Bryn Estyn were taken to the Duke’s estate for ‘work experience’ but refused to return there without explaining why.

Peter Mills worked as a consultant cardiologist at the Royal London Hospital and subsequently the London Chest Hospital, which both became part of Bart’s Health, for around 35 years. It was Barts who found that they were ‘unable to revive’ John Smith, the leader of the Labour Party, after his heart attack on 12 May 1994. Matt Arnold, the Head of Bryn Estyn, died from an ‘unspecified blood disease’ on 9 June 1994. On 13 June 1994 the trial of Arnold’s friend and colleague Peter Howarth and Paul Wilson for sexual offences against boys in care began.

Dafydd’s mate Professor Linford Rees was a leading light at Barts for many years and provided much protection for Dafydd. Linford Rees was from west Wales and furthermore had extensive showbiz connections via his daughter, the actress Angharad Rees and her husband Christopher Cazenove (see post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’). Barts’ concealing of organised abuse was given a further helping hand by the very close connections that Lady Juliet Bingley of MIND had with Bart’s – Juliet’s father had been a surgeon at Bart’s and Juliet worked for a while as a medical almoner (social worker) at Bart’s. Juliet’s son William continued the collusion with Dafydd et al in William’s capacity as Legal Director of MIND and then Chief Exec of the Mental Health Act Commission (see previous posts).

So after the chat with the Top Doc who was formerly of St George’s and Barts, old Hezza decided to offer Ken Clarke his support with regard to Clarke’s ambitions to lead the Tory Party and ultimately become PM. The Ken who was at the scene when the Duke of Westminster – Britain’s richest man – picked up a prime piece of Knightsbridge that the NHS was flogging off for a bit of loose change.

The information concerning Peter Mills’s career is provided on the website of Cavendish Medical. Cavendish Medical is a company which provides ‘financial planning’ services for ‘senior medical and NHS professionals’. I don’t think that Cavendish Medical simply manage the Top Docs’ Post Office savings accounts. Mills talks about his hobbies, which includes medieval art and explains that he has a ‘travel fund’ which enables him to jet around the globe in pursuit of this interest, the travel fund resulting from his Cavendish investments.

Peter Mills was Chairman of Cardiology SAC for the Royal College of Physicians, 2002-06, which involved Mills taking a leading role in the education of cardiologists. In 2015, the media reported that ‘Dr Peter Mills, the Football Association’s regional cardiologist for South East England’, was found by the High Court to have been negligent with regard to his treatment of Tottenham Hotspur footballer Radwen Hamed, who in 2006, when he was 17, suffered a cardiac arrest in his first game for the club and was left brain damaged. It was believed that the damages could reach £7 million.

The archive film of the interview with Hezza included a camera shot of the name plate of Peter Mills’ Harley Street practice, which showed that Mills shared his practice with Top Docs Duncan Empey and Michael Wareing.

I presume that Duncan Empey is Prof Duncan Empey, who has helpfully provided the following details on his LinkedIn profile:

Medical Director, Barts and The London NHS Trust, 1994-01

Professor Emeritus, University of Hertfordshire, March 2009-March 2012;

Group Medical Director, BMI Healthcare, Jan 2008-Dec 2012

Top Doctor Michael Wareing is an ENT specialist who works at The London Clinic. Wareing has his own website ‘145 ENT’, which contains the following information:

‘Welcome to the website for Mr Michael Wareing, MBBS BSc, FRCS(ORL-HNS), Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon. Michael Wareing is a London based Consultant Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Surgeon. He has an NHS practice which is based at St Bartholomew’s & The Royal London Hospitals, where he has also been the Head of the ENT Department in 2 separate spells, 2003-9 and 2012-14. His private practice is based at The London Clinic where he has a fully equipped consulting suite at 145 Harley Street. Mr Wareing has over 25 years experience as a doctor and has been a consultant since 2000. He offers expertise in all aspects of General ENT as well as supraspecialist knowledge in Ear & Skull Base Surgery, Voice Disorders, Dizziness & Tinnitus, Sinus Disease and Children’s Ear Problems. He has concentrated his private practice in one place to ensure the very best continuity of care for all his patients’.

The ‘profile’ section on Wareing’s website tells us that: ‘Michael Wareing was educated at the Haberdasher Aske’s School for Boys, Elstree and entered St Bartholomew’s Medical School (Barts) in 1982. Following success in his preclinical studies, he took the opportunity to spend a year of further study to complete a BSc in Pharmacology. He returned to his clinical training at Barts in 1985 where he developed an interest in ENT, and won the Sydney Scott Prize for Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) in 1988. He qualified as a doctor in the same year.

He worked in a number of busy posts in Neurosurgery, General Surgery and A&E in southeast England during his general surgical training, before taking up an ENT position at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. During this time he passed both the General Surgical and ENT Fellowships of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. His specialty ENT training gave him experience and expertise not only in District General Hospitals, but also in tertiary referral centres such as Guys, Kings & St Thomas’ Hospitals, and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. He also developed a particular subspecialty interest in Otology (diseases of the Ear) and Ear Surgery.’

Michael Wareing worked at Guy’s and Tommy’s with Ed Miliband’s Uncle Harry then! And of course with Dafydd’s friend and umbrella Professor Jim Watson the sex therapist (see post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’).

‘In 1997 the King’s Fund awarded him a prestigious TWJ Travelling Fellowship to enable him to spend seven months in the Laboratory of Molecular Otology at the University of California at San Francisco. There he studied inner ear gene therapy and performed new and exciting research on the roles of liposomes and viruses in introducing genetic material to the cochlea.

In 1999 he was awarded the Skull Base Fellowship at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, where he was able to refine his interest in Ear, Acoustic Neuroma and Skull Base Surgery.

In 2000, Mr Wareing returned to St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospitals as a Consultant ENT Surgeon. This was a high profile position which incorporated the dual role of maintaining a general ENT practice of adult and paediatric patients from the City of London, Islington and East End of London, whilst also being the Lead Clinician in Otology, Ear Surgery, Acoustic Neuroma and Skull Base Surgery. He ran a specialist Voice Clinic, and a Paediatric Ear Disease Clinic.

From 2003-9 Mr Wareing took over the additional role of Lead Clinician for the department of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at St Bartholomews and The Royal London Hospitals. This position allowed him to further develop the ENT services offered in both the City of London and the East End of London. He relinquished the role, only to be reappointed as the Lead Clinician in 2012. He enjoys working closely with many allied Health Professionals, where he is known as a helpful, reliable and considerate expert. He is in charge of the appointment and appraisal of ENT Colleagues, both Consultants and Junior Staff alike. He also has wide ranging responsibilities for the education of Medical Students within their ENT attachment, and also for GP Postgraduate ENT Education.

Mr Wareing’s Private ENT work started in 2000 when John Booth, his predecessor at Barts, saw an opportunity to retire by asking him to take over the care of his established Upper Wimpole Street Practice. In 2005 Mr Wareing chose to move his growing practice to the special setting of The London Clinic, Harley Street, where he and his colleague Mr Jonathan Harcourt are the only two ENT Surgeons to hold permanent rooms within the Clinic. Since that time he has equipped his Consulting Room with the very best equipment available for modern office based ENT practice.
Mr Wareing is also pleased to work as an Honorary Consultant for St Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy, Fitzroy Square.Mr Wareing is a well respected colleague, seeing patients from around the South East of England and overseas. He has featured in articles in the Daily Mail and the Observer, in radio shows and has written book chapters on a number of topics including the development of the ear and on voice problems. He has published over 40 peer reviewed articles and is invited to lecture within the UK and abroad.
Tatler Doctors Guide 2013
In 2007 he was one of only a handful of ENT Surgeons to appear in the ‘Tatler’ Guide to the top 250 Private Health Professionals in the UK. He also appears in the updated 2013 version of this guide.Mr Wareing lives in North West London. He is married to a doctor and they have 4 children. He is a keen (ex single figure handicap) golfer and has been pleased to win several medical golfing society trophies. He is also a keen cyclist, and cycled with a friend from Lands End to John O Groats in 2012, raising £25000 for Deafness Research UK and Help for Heroes.’

Private patients requiring both ENT and Neurosurgical expertise are seen individually by both Mr Wareing and Mr Sabin and are then discussed jointly by the Consultant to ensure optimisation of management, in conjunction with patient desires.’

Mr Sabin is available for those patients whom the Walton Centre have left to die because of their association with those who have challenged the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales (see post ‘A Vampire at Glyndwr University!’). Or probably not, if a distress flare has been sent up by Dafydd.

Mr Wareing of Very Expensive Private Practice has featured in the media, including in that organ dedicated to the NHS ‘The Guardian’, as well as the Mirror and the BBC. Not that Mr Wareing bothers to supply a photo of these publications, he prioritised ‘Tatler’ in that regard.

Mr Wareing works at The London Clinic, a private clinic which sprawls over much of the Harley Street disctrict of London.

John Biffen, the Thatcherite Tory MP who went to school with my father and who knew about the Westminster Paedophile Ring and the lengths to which a great many people were going to conceal it (see post ‘A Local Boy Made Good’), was a Trustee of The London Clinic, 1994-2002, which spans the whole period of the Waterhouse Inquiry and the publication of the Waterhouse Report.

In Ian MacGregor’s book ‘The Story Of The Miners’ Strike 1984-5′, MacGregor mentions that when he read that John Paul Getty II had given £100k to the striking miners’ Christmas appeal in 1984 which had been launched by Anne Scargill, Arthur Scargill’s wife, MacGregor called upon David Hart – the shady right wing figure who was behind many dark matters during Thatcher’s years in office – to arrange a meeting between MacGregor and Getty at ‘The London Clinic’ ‘where he was more or less permanently in residence’. At the meeting, Getty gave Hart a cheque for £100k to the National Working Miners.

Scargill’s daughter is a Top Doctor. Scargill’s friend Michael Mansfield QC who founded the Socialist Labour Party with Scargill knew what was happening to me in north Wales in 1993 because I wrote and told him about it. I wrote to Mansfield and explained that I had been prosecuted under the legislation introduced by Thatcher’s Gov’t to criminalise picketing miners after I attempted to get answers from the north Wales mental health services when Top Docs and Gwynedd Social Services social workers had broken the law. The much publicised police investigation into a possible paedophile ring in north Wales/Cheshire was underway when I was prosecuted and when I wrote to Mansfield. He wrote me a one line reply thanking me for my letter.

The website of The London Clinic is a source of high quality entertainment. We are told that ‘The London Clinic is one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, dedicated to providing the best, personalised healthcare with a breadth of surgical and medical expertise. The London Clinic has a number of premises across Harley Street and Devonshire Place…’

The London Clinic may be one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, but they’re all heart down at The London Clinic: ‘The charitable status of The London Clinic means that our surpluses are reinvested back into the hospital and our journey since 1932 has seen significant expansion and development’.

This charidee has been so successful at raising dosh to reinvest back into itself that The London Hospital’s Duchess of Devonshire Wing cost ninety million quid and that was a few years ago.

Highlights in the evolution of The London Hospital include:

In 1932, The opening of The London Clinic, which was performed by the Duchess of York, accompanied by the Duke of York (later King George VI) on 18th February 1932.

On 10 May 1949, a visit by Winston Churchill to Anthony Eden (later Lord Avon), presumably when Eden was laid up in The London Clinic.

In 1963 Elizabeth Taylor was spotted leaving The London Clinic with her knee in a splint after falling on a film set.

In 1989 HRH Prince Carlo opened the physiotherapy department at The London Clinic.

In 1991 HRH Princess Margaret, aka Ma’am Darling, who availed herself of the services of a few private Top Docs herself in her quest for chemical recreation (see post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’) opened the MRI unit in the radiology department. Ma’am Darling’s husband Lord Snowdon was the bisexual son of a Welsh Top Doc; Lord Snowdon was reputed to have used the services of rent boys and used to visit north Wales. As an elderly man, Lord Snowdon had a relationship with Marjorie Wallace, who’s selfless service to Top Docs who were involved with serious organised crime was pretty much unsurpassed (see post ‘One Dangerous Fucker’).

In 2002, TV star Martine McCutcheon opened the latest development of The London Clinic at 119 Harley Street. Martine was an actress in East Enders. As was Barbara Windsor, who probably would have been a more suitable celeb to have opened a new bit of The London Clinic.

In 2005, Nigel Havers opened the new consulting room suites at 145 Harley Street. Nigel is the son of Sir – later Lord – Michael Havers, the Tory MP for Wimbledon, 1970-87, who had many constituents who doubled up as Top Docs at St George’s. Havers was the corrupt Attorney General for England and Wales as well as for N Ireland, 1979-87, who consistently blocked the prosecution of ‘VIP paedophiles’, as well as the prosecution of nearly all not such VIP paedophiles in north Wales/Cheshire. His sister Lord Elizabeth Butler-Sloss concealed the extent of the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal (see post ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas And The Culprits Were Named’) and during the brief few minutes for which she Chaired the IICSA, Butler-Sloss tried to prevent any investigations into the Anglican Church. Butler-Sloss is a high profile Anglican.

In 2007 the Duchess of Devonshire attended the official opening of the new consulting room building at 5 Devonshire Place. The Duchess of Devonshire, who was born Deborah Freeman-Mitford, one of the famous fascist family.

Debo’s daughter Emma married Tobias Tennant, son of the 2nd Lord Glenconner. Charlie Tennant, the eldest son of the 3rd Lord Glenconner, was the heroin addict who flogged photos of Princess Margaret in fancy dress at a knees-up to raise money for drugs. Charlie’s dad the 3rd Lord Glenconner  owned Mustique, the island that Ma’am Darling used to visit to let her hair down with her toyboy Roddy Llewellyn, where she wandered around in a kaftan like a Royal Elizabeth Taylor. Charlie Tennant died in 1996, of either Hep B or HIV, I’ve forgotten which. Debo’s daughter Sophia’s second husband was Alastair Morrison, Sir Peter Morrison’s nephew.

After David Cameron became PM, Debo gave media interviews stating that Cameron and his drip of a wife ‘were rather good for the country’. Debo was mates with Sam the Drip’s father, Sir Reginald Sheffield. Sam’s mum Annabel later divorced old Reggie and remarried William Waldorf Astor III – the son of Bill Astor who starred in the Profumo Affair – who was the nephew of her own stepfather, Michael Langhorne Astor.I cannot help thinking that if these domestic arrangements were occurring on a council estate in Merthyr Tydfil, they would be the cause of much pompousing and huffing and puffing from Call Me Dave.

2007 was a good year for The London Clinic. As well as Debo opening their new block, members of staff at The London Clinic joined the Xtreme Everest expedition. Lest anyone believes that the staff of The London Clinic just went up Everest to enjoy themselves, the website of The London Clinic reminds us that the Everest expedition was about Research and Helping People. The London Clinic is pursuing ‘research’ up Everest which will benefit hundreds of thousands of people no less.

In 2010, Joanna Lumley opened the consulting rooms and pathology laboratory at 116 and 120 Harley Street.

In 2010 The London Clinic received another visitor almost as glam as Joanna Lumley. HM the Queen Lilibet opened the new, purpose built, state-of-art cancer facility at 22 Devonshire Place. Debo didn’t peg out until 2014, so perhaps she was too busy admiring Cameron and the notepaper which his wife designed for a living to make it to the opening, so Lilibet substituted.

In 2011, HRH Princess Alexandra opened the new Eye Centre at 119 Harley Street and was greeted by Professor Robin Williamson.

In 2011, The London Clinic received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. International Trade in what is not made clear.

In 2013, members of staff at The London Clinic were off up Everest again, continuing their investigations of human adaption to hypoxia at high altitude. Definitely not on a jolly.

In 2017 Camilla opened the new state-of-the-art 13 bed ICU at 20 Devonshire Place.

As all good charidees do, The London Clinic has a Patron, a Life President and a Board of Trustees.

The Patron is Camilla:

The Life President is The Duchess of Devonshire. Or was, until she turned her toes up.

The Board of Trustees of The London Clinic acts as its Board of Directors, overseeing and directing the activities of the charidee.

The Trustees are:

  • Mr Hamish Leslie Melville – Chairman
  • Lady Otton
  • Mr Manish Chande
  • Professor John Gribben
  • Mr Nicholas Melhuish

Hamish Leslie Melville, the Chairman of this medical charidee, is a banker. Melville is: Chairman, Investment Banking Committee of Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc; Chairman of Mercantile Investment Trust plc (formerly J.P. Morgan Fleming Mercantile Investment Trust plc; was MD of Credit Suisse Securities (Europe) Ltd, 2005-08; Chairman of Mithras Investment plc, 1994-08; Chairman of Old Mutual South Africa Trust plc; Director of Scottish Investment Trust plc, 1996-07; of Northern Recruitment Group, 1997-04; of Persimmon plc, 1995-10; of Jamestown Investments Ltd, 1992-94; Eclipse Film Partners No 1 LLP, 2006-14; 73 Cadogan Square Freehold Ltd, 2007-08; Erlangers Ltd, 2000-06; Scottish Woodlands Ltd, 1992-05; Brechin Castle Centre Ltd, 1996-02; Dunedin Capital Partners Ltd, 1992-95; West Highland Woodlands, April 1992-June 1992; Batsford Estates (1983) Co Ltd, 1991-92.

Melville is also the former Chairman of the National Trust, Scotland.

In Jan 2006, the business diary from The Torygraph reported that ‘Credit Suisse First Boston managing director Hamish Leslie Melville has upset his neighbours with plans to build a 43-turbine wind farm on his Lochluichart estate in the Scottish Highlands. Leslie Melville, along with a company formed by Savills and a Dutch wind farm developer, has applied for planning permission to erect the windmills on land the developers describe as “degraded habitat”. Local residents disagree. They’ve set up a protest group called A Wind Farm Too Far, arguing there’s plenty of wildlife and that the steel giants would wreck the view and threaten tourism. Apparently, rather than take an annual rent, the estate has opted for a stake in the venture. My Scottish mole estimates that if all goes according to plan, the project could rake in £625 m over the wind farm’s 25-year lifetime. Not a bad return for Leslie Melville – a former Chairman of the National Trust for Scotland – who was unavailable for comment.’

Lady Helen Otton is a Lady as a result of being married to a Sir, namely Sir Philip Otton, a former Lord Justice of Appeal, 1995-01. Lady Helen describes herself as a ‘conference organiser’. She was a Director of: Everyman Action Against Male Cancer, 2010-13; ICR Enterprises Ltd, 2010-13; The Maytree Respite Centre, 2005-10; Classical Opera, 2002-06; Nottingham Law School Ltd, 199394.

Some years ago Lady Helen Otton’s name appeared in a ‘Daily Mail’ article which named and shamed ‘acolytes’ who had ‘dined at tax-payers expense’ with Tony and Cherie Blair.

Manish Chande describes himself thus: ‘Manish is a senior partner of Clearbell Capital LLP and has over 30 years of real estate experience and is involved in all aspects of the business. Manish is Chairman of the Investment Committee. Manish co-founded Mountgrange Investment Management in 2007 and was the CEO of Mountgrange Capital, a private property investment and development group from 2002. He was previously a board director at Land Securities plc, CEO of Trillium, a pioneering sale and lease-back property business; and CEO of Imry, a publicly-quoted property investment and development company. Manish originally trained as a chartered accountant at Midgley Snelling & Co. between 1975 and 1980 and worked at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in London from 1980 to 1985. Manish has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1980. In 2008 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He was a Commissioner of English Heritage between 2003 and 2011. In 2007, Manish was appointed a Trustee of The London Clinic and in 2012 he was appointed a Trustee of the Canal and River Trust.’

The London Clinic’s website says of Professor John Gribben: ‘Professor John Gribben graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1980. He subsequently trained in Haematology at University College London and in Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, where he remained on the faculty for 17 years before returning to the UK. He specialises in haematological cancers including lymphomas, leukaemias and bone marrow transplantation. His NHS post is as Consultant Haematologist and Medical Oncologist Barts and The London NHS Trust.’

He is the author of more than 300 articles and chapters in peer-reviewed publications and has a global reputation for his work in researching new drugs and forms of cancer treatment. He has grant funding from The National Cancer Institute and Cancer Research UK for pioneering studies in leukaemia and lymphoma. He has sat on and chaired numerous international executive committees dedicated to investigating new approaches to cancer care, and several of the editorial boards for professional publications which are focused on cancer. He has lectured across the world on new therapies for cancer treatment.’

John Gribben features on the website of Barts Cancer Institute, which mentions that he was a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow 1987-89, at UCL and a Fogarty International Fellowship, 1989-1991, at Harvard.

Nicholas Melhuish is a ‘fund manager’: ‘Nicholas Melhuish joined Amundi in 2013 as head of global equities. He was previously head of global equities at UBS Asset Management (2007-2012), lead portfolio manger for global equity strategies at Nicholas-Applegate Capital Management (2003-2007) at San Diego, California and in London and senior portfolio manager, international core equity, at Putnam Investments, London (1999-2003). Nicholas started his career as an analyst and small cap portfolio manager at Schroder Investment Management (1991-1999). He holds a BA (Hons) degree in Modern History from New College, Oxford and is also a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of the UK.’

.

Take note: the Top Docs of The London Clinic trained in the NHS and for most of their careers held senior NHS jobs as well as extensive private practices. Now who was looking after their NHS patients when they were busy at that charidee The London Clinic? Just look at how many of those involved in running the charidee are people who work in global capitalism…

Other news:

The Governor of HMP Berwyn, the UK Gov’ts new ‘flagship’ prison – the biggest prison in the UK – which no English authority wanted in its back yard but was welcomed with open arms by the idiots who represent Wales in both the Senedd and Westminster, has been suspended over unspecified ‘allegations’.

Operation Pallial has resulted in another conviction of an elderly sex offender who worked in a children’s home in north Wales. Once more the bravery of the victims has been praised. If only someone had listened to them as well as the screams coming from the numerous other victims 30 years ago. I cannot share the police’s excitement at their inadequate action decades too late. The elderly paedophile who has just been imprisoned was not convicted until he was 79 yrs old because the full might of the British state was deployed to protect him, not the kids whom he assaulted. Many of them will be dead now anyway, kids in care and Empowered Service Users don’t usually make it as far as 79 yrs old.

Dafydd is in his late 80s, as is Lucille.

Sir Norman Bettison, the former senior officer of the South Yorkshire Police, has been told that he will no longer face any charges as a result of the Hillsborough disaster. Bettison had faced four counts of misconduct in a public office. He was accused of telling lies about the ‘culpability of fans’ and his role in the wake of the tragedy, but the CPS has now said that insufficient evidence meant there was no real prospect of securing a conviction. This is because of ‘changes in the evidence of two witnesses’ and the death of a third witness. How very convenient.

Sir Norman was accused of untruthfully describing his role in the South Yorkshire Police response to Hillsborough – where over 90 people died – as ‘peripheral’ in a 1998 comment to then Chief Inspector of Constabulary Sir David O’Dowd, when applying for the job of Chief Constable in Merseyside. He was also accused of lying to Merseyside Police Authority when he said he had never attempted to shift blame for the disaster ‘on to the shoulders of Liverpool supporters’. Bettison was alleged to have lied in a statement issued on 13 September 2012 following the publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report, when he said he had never offered any interpretation other than that the behaviour of Liverpool fans did not cause the disaster. He was also accused of misconduct over a statement released the following day in which he said he had never ‘besmirched’ Liverpool fans.

The court heard that the prosecution relied on two witnesses, Mark Ellaby and a woman identified only as Mrs J. It was alleged by Mr Ellaby that, over a pint in a pub while on an MBA course together in 1989, Sir Norman said he had been appointed to a team, the role of which was to blame the fans. Paul Greaney QC, defending Sir Norman, said it took ‘repeated requests’ from the defence for the other students to be traced by the IPCC. When ‘eventually’ they were, fifteen other students and a lecturer were contacted and ‘not a single one’ recalled Sir Norman expressing any ‘inappropriate view’ about Hillsborough.

Those witnesses with the very bad memories were on an MBA course. They will now be running the NHS, the Social Services, the County Councils, teaching in university business schools and of course like Bettison, some may have achieved high rank in the police.

It’s OK Dafydd and Lucille, you have nothing to worry about at all. I’ve got 10,000 documents, dozens of people were found dead, but you are absolutely safe from any risk of prosecution.

My post ‘Additional Security Measures’ details the fabrication of documentation by the Home Office and the order to stress the alleged bad behaviour of the fans rather than the inadequacies of the police that Home Office officials gave before the publication of the Report into Hillsborough by Lord Justice Peter Taylor. The Home Office were ably assisting Dafydd and the gang at the same time.

The police officers who fabricated and altered witness statements in the wake of Hillsborough were from the South Yorkshire force. The South Yorkshire force were involved in the brutality towards striking miners in 1984-85 and in the collusion with the paedophile gang in Yorkshire.

Bettison joined the South Yorkshire Police in 1975. In May 1993 he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police. In 1998 he became Chief Constable of Merseyside Police. Bettison retired from the police in January 2005 to become Chief Executive of Centrex, which provided training and development to police forces in the UK and enforcement agencies throughout the world until it was abolished in March 2007. Bettison rejoined the police service in January 2007 as Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police. He attempted to secure a package to receive both a retirement pension from Merseyside and a salary from the new post; he threatened legal action but the claim was settled out of court.

Jimmy Savile was on excellent terms with the police right across Yorkshire. The Merseyside Police colluded with Dafydd and his gang.

After the Battle of Orgreave was brought to the UK public by the Great British Press, Liz Stables, the Angel at the Student Health Centre at UCNW/Bangor University, told me that ‘those miners should be shot’. Liz was part of the trafficking gang in north Wales. One boy at Bryn Estyn maintained that he’d been sexually assaulted at gunpoint. But then I was followed by a gun wielding policeman before I left Wales, as was someone who made a witness statement about me being threatened by NHS staff and managers from the North West Wales NHS Trust.

After the Court case in which all charges were dropped against Bettison, Bettison talked of the ‘loss of loved ones’, the ‘enduring tragedy’, ‘a devastating loss’, ‘all of our sympathies’ and then reminded everyone that ‘I have been forced to deny, strenuously, that I was guilty of any wrongdoing in the aftermath of the disaster’.

A few weeks after Liz told me that the miners should be shot, she told me that she’d been at an event where dear old Dafydd dropped by in his helicopter and that ‘Dr DA was great’.

News Round Up, February 15 2018

There has been so much action in Wales over the past few days that I am going to just focus on that in this round up with the exception of one big English story, rather than the madness prevailing in the rest of the UK/world as well.

It’s business as usual in north Wales, with drug busts across the region, a human foot being washed up at Felinheli and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board about to fall of the edge of a cliff. The Daily Post Online also ran a story under the intriguing headline ‘Chest of Drawers Causes Havoc On A55’, but I haven’t had time to catch up with that.

The foot – still in a boot no less – was washed up at Felinheli a few days ago. The Post Online quoted a detective who stated that the foot was believed to have belonged to a man and that DNA tests are now being conducted in an attempt to identify which man precisely. The Post also reported that a body that was washed up at Trearddur Bay last November has now been identified – it was of a man from Dublin. It has been stated that the death wasn’t suspicious.

Things are falling apart at the flagship titan prison at Wrexham which so many of Wales’s politicians begged for. As well as the thriving trade in illegal drugs which seems to have existed from the day that HMP Berwyn opened its doors and indeed locked them again behind the first inmates, there has now been a dirty protest and a roof top siege. Which is quite impressive for a prison so new and one that was going to revive the Welsh economy.

The big news as ever is the NHS in Wales. A few days ago it was reported that Angels are now leaving the Betsi at a faster rate than they are being recruited. This is what happens when asinine excuses including violent mental health patients, salaries so low that Angels have to use foodbanks and schools that dare teach Welsh are trotted out to explain recruitment problems, rather than an acknowledgement that the region’s health and social care services are being run by the remains of a vicious paedophile gang and no sane person can bear to work with them. It might have escaped the attention of Peter Higson (the Chair of the Betsi), but one of the best and bravest nurses that he ever employed has been sacked by him and now struck off by the NMC for having sex with her own husband, after she blew the whistle on the serious abuse of elderly mental health patients at Tawel Fan ward in the Ablett Unit, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

The families of the patients who were abused in Tawel Fan are now seriously angry after they were told by Peter Higson and Gary Doherty (the Chief Exec) on Monday that both of the pending reports into the Tawel Fan scandal have now been delayed. Donna Ockenden – who has already compiled one utterly damning report about Tawel Fan (see posts ‘The Tawel Fan Scandal’ and ‘News Update Re Tawel Fan Scandal – Jan 17th 2017’) – has now reviewed the cases of more than 100 patients but she has been ill and will be unable to deliver her second report as planned on March 8th. The other report due from HASCAS (Health and Social Care Advisory Service) – they have also already produced one report – has been delayed as well. HASCAS are ‘looking at the impact on individual patients’. I’m not sure that anyone needs HASCAS to do that – the impact was obvious. One patient had an untreated fractured arm, others were crawling around naked on the floor which was covered in urine and faeces, they had all been drugged up to the eye-balls with anti-psychotics and the Angels were swearing at and threatening them. One patient had been barricaded into his bed with furniture.

Darren Millar, the AM for Clwyd West, has once more spoken out about Tawel Fan in the face of the rest of his colleagues remaining silent. Darren has not been reluctant to point out that it is scandalous that some NHS staff suspended after the Tawel Fan scandal have now been suspended on full pay for three and a half years – Tawel Fan was closed down in Dec 2013 – and that others were simply moved into new jobs within the Health Board. Darren commented that none of them have faced any action. He could have added that the only person who did face action was the nurse who blew the whistle – she’s been sacked and struck off by a kangaroo court who found her guilty of having sex with her own husband.

Rather worryingly the Post reported a few hours ago that a naked man running through Coronation Gardens in Rhyl was apprehended by 10 police officers and taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd – where he will probably have been admitted to one of the mental health wards at the Ablett Unit and be treated about as competently as the Tawel Fan patients were.

Hannah Turtle’s trial for murdering her baby continues – Hannah is a mental health patient from north Wales and no doubt if the truth were known there will have been a long history of gross incompetence and serious neglect on the part of the mental health services before Hannah killed her baby.

Today there was a debate in the Senedd on mental health. Conservative AM David Melding spoke about his panic attacks and Vaughan Gething the Health Minister praised Mr Melding’s ‘bravery for sharing his experiences’. This is the Vaughan who ignored pleas from me re the abuse that was dished out by the mental health services in my direction, failed to respond when Karen Hughes – who was raising concerns of illegal conduct, workplace bullying and neglect of patients so severe that a death resulted – contacted him concerning Flintshire MIND and has no doubt ignored correspondence from other people supplying Vaughan with first hand accounts of the brutality and inhumanity which is now so prevalent in the mental health services. The Vaughan who gave Mark Isherwood and Darren Millar a bollocking a few weeks ago as they begged him to address the deaths and chaos happening at the Betsi on the grounds that they were ‘talking down the NHS’.

BBC News Wales reported that the Senedd passed a motion expressing regret ‘that some people with mental health conditions face injustices and challenges when accessing services’. When I read the wording of that motion, I presumed that it could only have been written by Jane Hutt/Mark Drakeford/Julie Morgan/Lesley Griffiths, but I note that the Conservative AMs tabled the motion. I presume therefore that they had taken advice from the aforementioned people when they decided on phrasing it. ‘Injustice and challenges’ does not really describe thugs of male Angels screaming at you to get out or they’ll have you arrested/kicking the chairs next to you with jackboots whilst accusing you of impersonating a GP/perjuring themselves in an attempt to have you imprisoned or an on call GP claiming that they’re busy with other patients when they have seen two patients for five minutes each in the last three hours whilst you have been waiting/telling you that they are waiting for a room to become vacant when there are two vacant rooms across the hall available to them which have been vacant since you arrived. However at least I have managed to survive the injustices and challenges – some years ago one man who encountered injustices and challenges from both the Hergest Unit and Ysbyty Gwynedd A&E when trying to access services was found dead in the Cathedral Gardens a few hours later (see post ‘Two Dangerous Very Dishonest Nurses’).

Vaughan mentioned that the Welsh Gov’t have dedicated nearly £650 million to mental health services in the next financial year. Vaughan, do the nation’s public purse a favour and save your money. Don’t give the mental health services anything – at present the ‘services’ are abusive and damaging and less harm would be done if they were simply not there. Furthermore if they weren’t there, no-one would waste their time and energy trying to access ‘services’ only to be faced with quite mad Angels, Top Doctors and social workers hurling abuse at them, accusing them of malingering, occasionally assaulting them and then trying to fit them up in court when a complaint is made. You can save on the CCTV as well, because when the Ysbyty Gwynedd CCTV filmed the A&E Angels threatening and harassing me, Martin Jones the Chief Exec of the NW Wales NHS Trust destroyed the footage, so there seems to be little point in spending all that money on CCTV. Or indeed on Martin Jones – particularly in his present role of ‘Director of External Investigations, NHS Wales’ (see post ‘A Major Coup – Or A Complete Disaster?’).

The BBC also reported that the use of a new single number to access the NHS – 111 – has now been trialled in the area served by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board. This service is due to be extended across the whole of Wales over the next three years, although a warning has been given that this is not a ‘golden bullet’ to solve ‘NHS pressures’. It won’t be a golden bullet to solve anything unless someone takes rather greater care in selecting and supervising those who answer the calls – if the phone is repeatedly slammed down on patients asking for help (or if ‘professionals’ flatly refuse to attend even when the phone is not repeatedly slammed down), if Angels answer the phone by screeching ‘oo is it?’ when someone rings or tell callers that ‘we’re not allowed to speak to you’, the new number is not going to be any better than the old one. It wasn’t the number itself that was the problem, it was the responses that people were being met with when they rang the number. When Ffion Wyn Roberts from Porthmadog rang 999 in 2010 and told them that someone had got into her house and that she was frightened, only to be told by the ‘trained call handler’ to ring back ‘when you’re not drunk’ and was then murdered by the intruder, the outcome would not have been any different if the number had not been 999. The outcome would have only been different if there hadn’t have been a monster handling the call. That particular monster was not dismissed – in fact I don’t think that they were even disciplined – so they could well still be answering a 999 call near you. Or indeed a 111 call.

The noxious private company Kingdom which has caused chaos in the Conwy area after fining numerous people large amounts of money for trivial acts of civil disobedience has had its contract terminated by Gwynedd County Council after a matter of days – although I think someone needs to ask why Gwynedd County Council ever issued them with a contract for anything in the first place.

Elfed Wyn Jones, an international politics student at Aberystwyth University is undertaking a fast as part of his campaign for more Welsh language programming on TV. I presume that Elfed Wyn has taken a leaf out of Gwynfor Evans’s book – Gwynfor was the Plaid MP for Carmarthen, 1966-70 and then again 1974-79, who began a hunger strike and famously stated his intentions to fast until he died if Thatcher’s Gov’t did not keep their election promise to establish a fourth Welsh language TV channel, after Thatcher decided that this was an election commitment that could be forgotten about once she had been elected. The official story is that the prospect of Gwynfor – a pacifist who always sought to achieve his ends by non-violent means – starving himself to death was so terrible that Cledwyn Hughes visited Willie Whitelaw, the Home Secretary, in London and was able to persuade Willie to agree to establishing S4C and thus Gwynfor called his hunger strike off. The harsh reality is that Cledwyn, the Archbishop of Wales Gwilym Williams and Sir Goronwy Daniel, the Principal of Aberystwyth University, reminded Whitelaw of the paedophile gang in operation in north Wales of which Thatcher’s friend the Tory MP for Chester Sir Peter Morrison was a member (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’). The paedophile gang that Whitelaw, as well as many of his colleagues, had ignored and then concealed. Willie et al decided that S4C would be a small price to pay and the paedophile gang continued their business unhindered. Gwynfor may have been a pacifist, but he will have known about the organised abuse of children himself – there was a gang at work in west Wales on his patch with links to the gang in north Wales. Furthermore, Ioan Bowen Rees acted as an advisor to Gwynfor – Ioan Bowen Rees was the Chief Executive of Gwynedd County Council whilst the paedophile gang in north Wales abused children in homes run by Gwynedd Social Services. Before he became Chief Exec of Gwynedd, Bowen Rees was County Secretary of Dyfed County Council – whilst a paedophile ring was active in Dyfed (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing’).

So unless Elfed Wyn has info about another paedophile gang – one that Theresa May doesn’t know about, as opposed to the one that was facilitated by St George’s Hospital Medical School and included their Professor of Paediatrics Oliver Brooke which Theresa did know about when she was a Councillor for the London Borough of Merton (which covered an area served by St George’s) between 1986-94 – Elfed Wyn will be fasting in vain.

I am currently reading Gareth Price’s book about the history of BBC Wales, which is a mine of information about the people involved in launching S4C as well as in a lot of other things – I will be blogging about it soon.

Carl Sargeant’s son Jack has just been elected as AM for the seat of Alyn and Deeside that Carl held until his death.

Lastly, the leading news story in the London-based media today  is the conviction of Berry Bennell for more than 40 sexual offences against minors whilst he worked as a football coach. I’ve been so busy researching for some forthcoming posts that I haven’t been following the Bennell story, but I did notice that he abused youngsters at Manchester City and committed other offences in Cheshire. I have received an e mail from someone telling me that Channel 4 news mentioned that the Bennell story had a Welsh connection. I did wonder if it might have. The paedophile gang facilitated by Dafydd and the mental health services in north Wales operated in Cheshire as well and the delightful Keith Fearns, former team leader of the Arfon Community Mental Health Team – who was always ready to give a kicking to anyone who had spilt the pints of the paedophile gang – was involved with football in Manchester many years ago. Since he has been in north Wales, Fearns has of course become notorious for managing his ‘ladies football team’, whom he takes on unlikely trips to Eastern Europe. Then there is Martin Jones who for some years has been coaching children’s football. I have no idea exactly what Fearns’s and Martin’s motives are, but I really don’t think that these two are simply participating in football with young people out of the goodness of their hearts.

News Round Up, 19 January 2018

There has been an avalanche of interesting news items recently, but I’m having to skimp on my news round ups because I have so much information coming in regarding those who have been involved in the abuse of mental health patients and children in care that I have been very busy following up multiple lines of research.

However, there have been a few news stories over the past couple of days that are just too good to allow to pass by without comment.

Yesterday the news was wall to wall NHS sob stories. Suddenly there is a ‘winter crisis’ so bad that no NHS hospital anywhere in England or Wales can cope any longer. Nurses are ‘going home in tears’ – no, that wasn’t a reference to nurses who have blown the whistle on the abuse of patients and who have been sacked, it was a reference to the many others who can suddenly no longer do their jobs and who are of course using food banks because people on salaries of over 30k pa can’t afford a loaf of white sliced. One wonders how the healthcare assistants manage on their salaries of 11-15k or indeed the porters, catering staff or cleaners who might really be using food banks. But they aren’t represented by the RCN so no-one gives a stuff about them.

There was a truly splendid clip on BBC News in which a Top Doctor on approx 100k pa – get down the food bank now Dr, you’ll be needing the free pasta and tinned tomatoes – explained how they were so short staffed in his A&E dept that the admin staff had arrived to help out. We were then treated to an interview with a PA who had donned surgical gloves and a plastic apron for the benefit of the TV camera crew who explained that she had arrived in the clinical area to help out.

OK – one thing that I know about the NHS is that although rules and indeed the law are flouted routinely the NHS is absolutely bloody obsessed with role titles, role descriptions and how much shit they’ll be in legally if they have been found to have breached HSE guidelines. So where does this leave them if a clinically unqualified PA has been let loose to perform nursing or healthcare assistant duties? I imagine that the insurers won’t be too happy if this is going on.

Furthermore, the said PA, even if she was au fait with nursing care, would be in the same position as the proverbial gap year student who goes off to work for an international development charity – they are a hindrance rather than a help because they don’t know the work routines or the team. The PA would know nothing about the ward routine or even where essential items are kept. A PA does not just walk onto a ward and join the team.

If the PA was busy on a ward being filmed, who was doing her job? If she could be spared at the drop of a hat, does that mean that her work as a PA is unnecessary? In which case why was she ever employed?

So someone has been telling porkies and the BBC have been filming porkies, just like they did on the Attenborough programme when they pretended to film that polar bear giving birth in the wild. They used film footage of a bear in a zoo.

In Wales a group of Consultants in Emergency Medicine have signed a letter to Carwyn demanding more dosh and stating that Wales’s A&Es are dangerous. They have been for years but there was no letter to the FM when the patient waiting in Wrexham Maelor A&E DIED, fell off the chair and was dragged back onto the chair by the Neanderthal security man who didn’t realise that the patient was dead.

Pauline Cutting and Linda Dykes, two A&E Consultants in Ysbyty Gwynedd, knew that their colleague senior nurse Stephen Gallagher was threatening patients, refusing to treat them and making fallacious allegations about them to the police (see post ‘Two Dangerous Very Dishonest Nurses’). Cutting and Dykes also knew that Gallagher had been previously reprimanded after a doctor complained about him and that it had been noted on his file that his integrity and competence could not be relied upon. Yet Gallagher was still employed in a senior role, on the front line, dealing with sensitive situations. Then there was that unfortunate business in which a patient was found dead in Bangor after going to A&E for help – Gallagher was the last person to see him alive as he turned the patient away without help. I don’t remember a letter being sent to the FM about that.

Neither was there a letter sent to the FM when Martin Jones, the Chief Exec of the North West Wales NHS Trust, destroyed CCTV footage which showed Gallagher threatening patients…

Time for a letter perhaps Pauline and Linda, detailing all those dreadful incidents that you witnessed in Ysbyty Gwynedd A&E? Perhaps you could also tell Carwyn how Martin wasn’t carrying out CRB checks on the staff and how there were people with convictions for violence working in clinical roles in YG? Do remember to tell the FM about the staff who lied about their qualifications as well – and the Angel who was working as a prostitute and who was blackmailing her clients! Ooh and the crazy medical student who had sex with all sorts of people on hospital premises and who was then employed as a psychiatrist at the Hergest Unit after he qualified.

You want examples of patients placed in danger? I’ve got loads of them – you knew about them as well but none of you breathed a word.

To add to the fun, Cheshire Tory MP Antoinette Sandbach spoke out about the shite care provided by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and claimed that Welsh patients are cluttering up the Countess of Chester Hospital because they don’t want to risk their necks in north Wales hospitals.

The Countess of Chester was not so long ago the subject of a police investigation after a number of babies died there.

Antoinette used to be a Tory AM for north Wales. She made no representations at all on behalf of the people who had to use the dangerous dysfunctional hospitals of north Wales which are now in special measures. Antoinette did speak out after her own child died – but she spoke out about being investigated by the police. She stood up in the Senedd and she cried and howled and wept buckets and received a round of applause – and repeated the performance when she was elected to Westminster, again to a round of applause. She continued to not say a word about the women who had lost their babies because of the negligence of the NHS in north Wales or indeed about any of the other patients who had died or been harmed.

North Wales has some of the worst health outcomes in Europe – Antoinette remained silent.

Antoinette is a former criminal barrister from London who decided upon a career as a Tory AM some years ago when questions began to be asked once more about the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal and the cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry. She arrived in north Wales as a ‘low paid farm worker’ – Antoinette actually returned to live on the family estate, her family being descendants of the Penrhyns who made their fortune out of slavery in the West Indies. Within weeks Antoinette had a job with David Jones MP, the solicitor who spent years of his life watching me and other people being framed by the mental health services in the courts of north Wales (see post ‘The Right Honourable David Jones MP’).

Very quickly Antoinette was on the candidates list, then bang, elected as an AM, advertising herself as a farmer’s daughter from north Wales. Antoinette’s dad was not Joe Grundy or even Phil Archer, he was Ian Lawrie Mackeson-Sandbach.

Ian was the most senior Freemason in north Wales – Provincial Grand-Master of North Wales, 1990-2004. Ian held that position throughout the many years of failed investigations and inquiries into the north Wales paedophile ring, investigations which were alleged to have been hampered by corruption involving Freemasonry. Ian was also in post when the five witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were killed by a firebomb, days after John Major won the 1992 General Election (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’).

David Jones MP was an enthusiastic Freemason as was Nigel Mannering Berry (see post ‘The Right Honourable David Jones MP’), the nurse from the North Wales Hospital Denbigh who was responsible for Gwynfa Unit, the adolescent mental health unit in Colwyn Bay where children were raped and assaulted (see post ‘Don’t Be Silly, He’s Nice’). Hefin Davies, the Chairman of the North West Wales NHS Trust whilst patients were abused, died and were framed for serious offences, was also active in the Freemasons in north Wales.

Your dad kept some lovely company Antoinette.

Antoinette’s grandmother Geraldine – Ian’s mother – was President of the Denbigh branch of the Royal College of Midwives, 1955-75 (News Round Up, Aug 24 2017′). During those years unmarried pregnant women were banged up in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, as were women who had been sexually assaulted – and women were being sexually abused by staff in the hospital, including by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones.

Christ Almighty, Antoinette’s family have blood on their hands.

The senior manager of the north Wales mental health services whilst Antoinette’s dad’s fellow Masons raped teenagers and imprisoned women in Denbigh was Dr Peter Higson, who is Chair of the Betsi. The Betsi which Antoinette maintains is so utterly shite that it is causing an exodus to England.

The Daily Post Online reported that Geoff Ryall-Harvey, the Chief Exec of the North Wales Community Health Council, ‘slammed’ Antoinette for her comments. Had Geoff slammed some of the abusive staff and managers of the Betsi over the past few years rather than ignoring patients complaints, the Betsi might not be in its present sorry state. But then the CHC has numbered among its members Glanville Owen, the former manager of the children’s homes run by Gwynedd Social Services whilst the kids within were abused (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’), Sadie Francis (Dr X’ s wife), a retired psychiatrist from the North Wales Hospital and the Hergest who along with her husband Tony perjured herself in repeated attempts to imprison me (see post ‘The Night Of The (Dr Chris) Hunter ‘) and Dr Christine Evans, a retired surgeon from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd whose only reason for joining the CHC was to try to protect the position of her former colleagues at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in the wake of a Royal College of Surgeons report denouncing them as a bunch of bastards who were running  the surgical service to suit their own needs rather than the needs of their patients.

Another member of the CHC is former Lib Dem AM Eleanor Burnham. Eleanor is a former social services manager and sat on Mental Health Tribunals at the North Wales Hospital.

For more details concerning the ‘watchdog’ that is the ‘patients voice’ which is log jammed with the paedophiles’ friends, see post ‘Joint Betsi Board/North Wales CHC Meeting, March 24 2017’.

The bestest friend of the paedophiles, North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones, has been supplying nearly as much entertainment in the Daily Post Online as Antoinette. Arfon has told vigilante ‘paedophile hunters’ that they would be better off joining the police. Experimental evidence suggests that the North Wales Police were not very good at all at catching paedophiles, although they were quite good at framing people for child abuse who were not paedophiles. One former officer of the North Wales Police, Superintendent Gordon Anglesea, was eventually imprisoned for abusing children in care in Wrexham, but it took over 30 years to catch Anglesea and the Police Federation backed him up all the way and were supporting his planned appeal against conviction before he died.

The police officer who chauffeured Anglesea to the venues where he abused boys was one Arfon Jones. Anglesea’s widow Sandra enjoys the benefits of Anglesea’s police pension although her husband died a convicted sex offender, thanks to an ‘oversight’ on the part of Arfon.

Arfon is concerned that paedophile hunters could lead to offenders going free due to legal and procedural failings. Perhaps in the same way that nearly all those who were responsible for the abuse of children in north Wales over decades went free despite the hundreds of statements that were submitted to the CPS.

I’m glad to say that Afon has made ‘protecting vulnerable children and delivering safer neighbourhoods’ priorities in his police and crime plan – what could ever go wrong with Arfon at the helm? Arfon stated that ‘communities have a vital part to play with local intelligence information given to our officers’. Hundreds of statements were given to officers Arfon, hundreds. Then there were the psychiatric patients who reported assaults on them by mental health staff to police officers – who refused to take statements. Neither must we forget the concerned neighbours who rang the police begging them to help various children in care or psychiatric patients who had been left destitute and were being attacked by drunks and thugs – police officers did bugger all. Some of them did try but they were constantly obstructed by more senior officers or the NHS and social services themselves. And gradually most of the former kids in care and psych patients who had complained died – most of those deaths were not even investigated.

An inspection of HMP Liverpool has denounced the conditions as the worse that have ever been seen in a UK prison and it has been reported that the prison medical service is so bad that prisoners have undoubtedly died uneccesarily. This didn’t happen overnight – can some questions now be asked about the previous inspectors who failed to notice this? HMP Nottingham has also been heavily criticised and the brand spanking new HMP Berwyn which David Hanson, Hywel Williams, Elfyn Llwyd and Leanne Wood begged for and which was going to transform the economic prospects of Wrexham – how exactly none of these bozos were able to explain – has been denounced as dangerous by the staff.

If readers can bear anymore humbug and hypocrisy, I can highly recommend  Professor Catherine Robinson’s Twitter feed, it surpasses Arfon Jones’s crime plan. Highlights from the past few days include a retweet about mental disorders being included in the earliest known medical texts – are we still relying upon Galen??? Ooh I think that I’ve got an excess of black bile, I’ll go for a bit of blood letting and see if my condition improves. Catherine also retweeted yet another lame article from the Guardian about the ‘unbelievably dedicated NHS staff’ – presumably these include the NHS staff employed at the School of Healthcare Sciences at Bangor University who Catherine hated so much that she threatened to resign if she was transferred to their School; an article about nurses being unable to afford to feed themselves; an advert for an art group for people with borderline personality disorder – Catherine used to work in the North Wales Hospital where that label was attached to anyone who dared complain about being propositioned by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones (see post ‘ The Mentor’); and a tweet about how when sex assault victims speak out their institutions often betray them – at the North Wales Hospital sex assault victims were kept in a cellar.

Catherine also retweeted an advert for a job with the McPin Foundation. The McPin Foundation promotes mental health research foregrounding ‘service user involvement’. I applied for a job as a researcher with the McPin Foundation about three years ago. They were ever so nice at the interview and I later received a letter from them explaining that the vacancy was for a service user researcher, that I was far too capable for such a post and that the service user researcher posts were really very junior and service users were not given any responsibility or strategic input into the project. I understand that another applicant who was also a ‘service user’ with a PhD and post doc experience received a similar letter. Catherine will get on with the McPin Foundation really well – her project involving ‘service users’ didn’t even cite their names on the outputs, they were simply referred to as ‘and others’. She probably still wishes that they could be kept in the cellar.

I was delighted to discover from Catherine’s retweets that Kate C. Thomas of the Betsi is looking for people to give presentations about gendered and race identities at a conference in London. Perhaps I should submit one concerning the experience of the gay student nurse who was subjected to homophobic bullying on placement at the Hergest Unit or Dr Alberto, the Italian psychiatrist employed by the Betsi who was frozen out by his colleagues because he is Italian…

Question Time last night saw the vile Andy ‘I’m from the north me’ Burnham tell the audience in the wake of the collapse of Carillion how he has always disagreed with PFI hospitals. So that must have been why so many of them were signed off whilst Burnham was Health Secretary. Perhaps he was too busy ignoring those 80 requests for an inquiry into the astronomical death rates at Mid-Staffs to notice all the PFI contracts – er, but weren’t those PFIs used by Andy to boast about how much New Labour was ‘investing’ in the NHS? Anyone currently screaming about the lack of resources available for patient care in the NHS care to explain why they said nothing at all about those PFI hospitals but instead were photographed with rictus grins as each one was opened? They were all told what appalling deals PFIs were. But then they were all told that patients were dying of neglect and good staff were being hounded out of their jobs…

Perhaps the most extraordinary bit of news recently which has received very little publicity was the Attorney General Jeremy Wright blocking Stuart Lubbock’s father Terry’s application to the High Court to request a fresh inquest into Stuart’s death.

Stuart Lubbock was the man who was found dead in Michael Barrymore’s swimming pool – during a party. Stuart had serious anal injuries and alcohol, ecstasy and cocaine in his blood. Barrymore had been at the party but left the scene when the body was discovered.

Stuart was found dead on March 31 2001. Barrymore was interviewed by police but was released. In October 2001 Barrymore accepted a police caution for drugs offences. An inquest on Stuart in 2002 recorded an open verdict and it was observed that there were no benign reasons for Stuart’s injuries. In Feb 2006 Stuart’s family were blocked by a district judge in Southend, Essex, from pursuing a private prosecution against Barrymore. In Dec 2006 Essex police began a new investigation into Stuart’s death. In Jan 2007 the IPCC announced an investigation  into the detectives original handling of the inquiry into Stuart Lubbock’ s death. On June 14 2007 Barrymore was arrested with two other men on suspicion of serious sexual assault and murder. Barrymore was given bail the next day. In Feb 2009 the IPCC upheld 36 complaints and allegations by Stuart’s father. The IPCC also found that two pieces of evidence – a pool thermometer and a door handle – had gone missing after Stuart’s death.

In July 2015 Barrymore began suing the police for wrongful arrest – he issued a writ in the High Court. In August 2017 a judge stated that Barrymore will receive more than nominal damages.

No judge or Attorney General is going to be told what to do by a light entertainment favourite who yells ‘awight?’ at the audience. So what does Barrymore know about who?

The action all took place in Essex. A favourite spot for the residences of the crime barons and gangsters operating in London. Who are alleged to have many police officers, lawyers and judges on their payroll.

News Round Up, June 8 2017

I’ve written a lot recently on this blog regarding the con that is CAIS, the Third sector organisation providing ‘substance misuse’ services. Previous posts have detailed the dodgy commissioning processes by which CAIS have received millions in funding from the Welsh Gov’t to provide services, including ‘service user involvement’ (see post ‘The Story Behind £1.5 Million’), the huge contracts that they have been handed by the DWP despite their very limited success regarding ‘outcomes’, the scam that they seem to have operated to persuade George Osborne to cough up a lot of money (please see post ‘George Osborne Enters The Picture’) and the very questionable histories of many of the CAIS Trustees. I’ve also documented the burgeoning drug problem in parts of north Wales which suggests that CAIS are failing spectacularly in providing ‘services’. CAIS have now moved into the homelessness business, eg. providing ‘supported accommodation’. Again, a quick walk around Wrexham would suggest that CAIS are having bugger all effect in this domain. So I was certainly interested to read in the Daily Post online that a very angry lawyer in Wrexham has demanded that Wrexham Council should ‘get a grip’ on the drugs and homelessness problem – that’s the Wrexham Council that seems to have been tying itself in knots to ensure that the contracts for the ‘services’ to address drugs and homelessness are given to CAIS. The lawyer concerned, Mark Davies, has a client, Craig Nikolic, who has just been imprisoned. Mr Nikolic was imprisoned after he was found ‘asleep in Lord Street with his sleeping bag next to him’. Lord Street is the street in Wrexham where the homeless have been hanging out because it’s near the bus station, so they can go in there out of the rain (although it doesn’t provide much in terms of shelter, it’s usually freezing cold in there and the rain does get in), go to the loo, have a wash etc. Because they don’t have a home in which to do that. Mr Nikolic is a heroin addict and after being released from prison on an early release scheme he was ordered not to enter Wrexham town centre. But as his lawyer pointed out, he was homeless, so if he didn’t enter the town centre he had nowhere to wash etc. So he risked it and has been caught and returned to prison. The account of Mr Nikolic’s recent encounters with the Courts and law is fascinating because it makes it clear that this man is repeatedly ending up in prison because he doesn’t have anywhere to live. He is being punished far more harshly for his destitution than he has been for possession of illegal drugs. But then simply being very poor does now lead to people being criminalised. As if to rub in the dismal performance of CAIS where ‘tackling drugs’ is concerned, there have also been media reports of a recent major drugs bust in Llandudno with a number of dealers being arrested and the North Wales Police issuing a statement saying that they expected to make more arrests very soon – this has come hot on the heels of accounts of turf wars between drug dealers in the region, some of which have resulted in murders.

In my post ‘George Osborne Enters The Picture’ I mentioned that a recent initiative of CAIS has been the establishment of a place in Cardiff called the ‘Living Room’. I was puzzled to discover that the Living Room was providing ‘after care’ and ‘sociopsychological support’ to Cardiff GPs and questioned why highly paid Top Doctors were receiving the services of a charity when their own patients usually cannot access such support. I have now been given further information about the Living Room. I have been told that the distressed GPs receiving ‘services’ are actually Top Doctors with addiction problems and are encountering difficulties because, for example, they have lost their driving licences. Now alcohol problems are very common in medical practitioners and drug problems are not unknown, and of course doctors with such problems deserve help and support (although the irony is that certainly in north Wales the Top Doctors loathe people with drug and alcohol problems and usually refuse to treat them; that is how CAIS picked up the remit for providing ‘services’ (please see post ‘The Evolution Of A Drugs Baron’). However CAIS is Chaired by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and is still very much a reflection of all that he holds dear and follows the model of business that he has followed for decades. And Dafydd has form for ‘helping’ people who have ended up coming unstuck as a result of their addiction problems. This ‘help’ usually simply involves extracting people out of the shit that their addiction has landed them in (at a price of course) rather than tacking the addiction. A nurse who had formerly worked at Dafydd’s ‘nursing home’ for veterans suffering from PTSD, Ty Gwyn, told me that there were very few veterans in Ty Gwyn, but there were a lot of people with addiction problems who had ended up being prosecuted so they had checked into Dafydd’s facility for a few weeks and in return Dafydd would write them a favourable Court report, although he had virtually not seen them at all whilst they had been patients at Ty Gwyn. I was also told by another person that Dafydd’s ‘medical reports’ were equally useful to people who had encountered problems with driving licences and their insurance. Indeed Dafydd is so good at helping people who are in danger of losing their licence as a result of drinking and driving that he attempted to rescue his own son when he appeared in Court on a drink driving charge. The Court were given a real tear-jerker, a story of how Dafydd’s son worked as Dafydd’s chauffeur, enabling Dafydd to pursue his heroic line of work with of course veterans (Dafydd has found that invoking the image of distressed soldiers works wonders), that Dafydd did much of this work free of charge no less and if his son lost his licence the patients would Suffer. The Court didn’t buy it – Dafydd is notorious in north Wales, to be fair to them the more honest local magistrates stopped believing anything that he said years ago – and his son lost his licence. It transpired that this chauffeur who spent his time assisting his dad patch up veterans was actually a student at Aberystwyth University. I seem to remember that it was on this occasion that someone in Court remarked that it was odd that Dafydd had obtained Legal Aid, being a highly paid very wealthy man. But as ever, no-one investigated further. Dafydd bending the rules to selflessly help patients has a long and noble history – sometime in the mid 1990s, a photo of him appeared on the front page of the Daily Post under the headline ‘He Saved A Life – And Got A Fine’. The reality was that Dafydd had been caught exceeding the speed limit somewhere along the north Wales coast – in a big way as well, it was something like 50mph in a 20mph zone – and when he was caught he claimed that he was on his way to rescue a suicidal patient who was standing on the Menai Bridge waiting to jump. It didn’t occur to him to call an ambulance then.

A Story Of Our Time appeared in the media yesterday. Jacqueline Grayson, the manager of ‘Treflys’, a care home in Llandudno, was summoned to a fitness to practice disciplinary hearing by Social Care Wales for sharing Facebook posts that the ‘presenting officer’ for Social Care Wales alleged were ‘anti-Islamic’ and ‘discriminatory’. Social Care Wales seem to have very little understanding of what Islamophobia and discrimination are. Ms Grayson had shared among a group of Facebook friends posts discussing whether the wearing of burkhas should be banned in public areas. Discussions regarding the wearing of full face veils or not are held among many Muslims. Mrs Grayson’s other sin was to share a Facebook post involving a golliwog. Yes, the golliwog originated as an offensive parody of a black person, but most people who were children in the sixties only knew the golly as a toy or a badge that could be acquired by collecting pictures of gollies from Robertsons jam jars. It seems that was the reference that Ms Grayson was making on Facebook. So Social Care Wales doesn’t know the difference between recent cultural history and racism so serious that it questions a social care professional’s fitness to practice. A number of people defended Ms Grayson at the hearing. One was a Romanian colleague who described Ms Grayson as being ‘amazing’ with staff and residents alike. Another one was a Mr Bhusan Ramnath, the proprietor of the care home and Ms’ Grayson’s employer. His wife was a Muslim and he was supporting Ms Grayson. The panel heard that there was no evidence that Ms Grayson had treated any Muslim resident in any way differently to any other resident. The panel concluded that Ms Grayson’s fitness to practice was not impaired but nonetheless her crime was serious that she was reprimanded.

So in a field – the care of elderly people – where bad practice and even abuse is endemic, Social Care Wales have gone to the trouble and effort to haul Ms Grayson up in front of them on the basis of some laughable evidence that did not in any way reflect on her capacity as the manager of a care home. There had been no complaint at all regarding her practice, just a ‘whistleblower’ – who was not identified – who spotted some Facebook posts that she had shared among her Facebook ‘friends’. Llandudno is only a few miles down the road from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. It was at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd that four years ago elderly patients in Tawel Fan ward were sworn at by staff, barricaded into their beds with items of furniture and left to crawl around naked on a floor that was covered in urine and faeces whilst staff discussed their sex lives. One patient was found to have an untreated fractured arm. No member of staff has been disciplined or prosecuted – except for the nurse who blew the whistle on all this who was suspended, arrested after being the subject of malicious allegations and also received threatening anonymous letters. She now works in England. The two inquiries into Tawel Fan have yet to be completed – one has been hindered by the staff refusing to co-operate. I know there to be much bad practice in privately owned elderly people’s homes, but what the Betsi, an NHS Health Board, continues to get away with is breath-taking.

The flagship prison at Wrexham, HMP Berwyn, which so delighted local politicians – just imagine, a warehouse with nearly 2000 people banged up inside, mostly people with mental health or addiction problems, how exciting! – has run into yet more problems. It is in breach of a number of it’s planning conditions eg. landscaping, the providing  of two bus shelters and producing certain certificates demonstrating that various standards have been met – and Wrexham Council are threatening action.

The crisis at Bangor University continues and the Vice-Chancellor has stated that the financial situation is so serious there that there will have to be redundancies and even pay cuts. The unions have hit the roof, have stated that staff will be ‘pushed into poverty’ and one of the union reps has suggested that one way of solving the crisis would be to sell the Vice-Chancellor’s house, which was purchased by the University for him. That house has been a running sore ever since it was purchased – I think people are making a mountain out of a molehill, it’s not THAT posh -and furthermore there was more fuming last year when it was revealed that the Vice-Chancellor’s bedroom had received a makeover and that new furniture purchased from Laura Ashley had been installed. The Daily Post even provided a photo of a Laura Ashley inspired bedroom to feed the readers imaginations, although the photo that they provided was the sort of bedroom that a contemporary Barbara Cartland might have favoured, all in pink. I’m not sure that Professor John Hughes would have exactly the same taste, but you never know. It has not occurred to the union rep that even if John Hughes’s residence was flogged, it would only raise about £1 million, if indeed that. It would last me quite a long time, but it wouldn’t keep Bangor University afloat for long, particularly as they are currently footing the salary bill for great swathes of staff in ‘health and social care research’ or ‘psychology/mental health research’ whose output is very questionable indeed (I have detailed some of this dodgy research in previous posts). There are also a lot of younger modestly paid staff working their butts off whilst more senior people rest on their laurels. Among the senior academics, some are wonderful, supporting students and carrying out first class research – but others should not be in their present jobs and everyone knows it. It is true that there are some very badly paid staff at Bangor – they are the cleaners, the catering staff etc. No-one bothers to fight very hard for them – when I worked at Bangor, the people who consistently made the most noise every time they feared that cuts cometh, were the less productive (in some cases frankly bloody lazy) staff on permanent contracts who had been there years. They didn’t REALLY fear their contracts being terminated either – it is very hard to get rid of academics with permanent contracts no matter how bad they are. In reality, it is the better staff on short-term contracts who get the chop if belts have to be tightened because the useless old farts fight tooth n nail to hang on to their very comfortable existence. This is going on in every university in the UK and it is a very big problem, it’s not just a disease that affects Bangor. However union reps at Bangor do seem to have a history of developing strange obsessions with the way that they imagine Vice-Chancellors are spending money. When I worked there, at one point the UCU rep, one Eileen Tilley, was frothing at the mouth about the money that the VC was alleged to have spent on his office desk – how on earth did she know how much he’d paid for it? I very much doubt that he’d showed her the receipt. When I made comments to this effect, she changed tactic and complained about the style of the desk that he’d purchased. Que??? (It had too much glass in it apparently so it wasn’t suitable.) Tilley continued to make extraordinary allegations – which I suspected were in the realms of fantasy – regarding the VC’s office furniture and I got somewhat pissed off with her, because whilst she was making these allegations she was actually colluding with the truly vile Lyn Meadows, the Director of HR (Meadows is now a member of the Betsi Board), who was breaking employment law regularly and bullying and harassing people. The next allegation was that the VC had hired a chauffeur. No-one actually had any evidence that this had happened and I searched high and low for the said chauffeur and never found him/her. I think that the real story was that discussions were underway regarding the possibility of a chauffeur that would be made available to a number of senior managers – but the backstabbing Tilley was busy making plans for the revolution on the basis of the chauffeur. So I conducted an experiment and told her that I knew all about it, that it wasn’t a real chauffeur, it was a security man dressed up in a special uniform. And a few days later my lie came back to me on the grapevine, so it rather confirmed that none of these people actually knew what they were talking about. The irony was that while the revolutionaries on ‘only’ £40-50k pa grumbled and fumed about glass desks and chauffeurs, me and my ilk were doing their teaching and a good deal more research than them as well for far less. And because we were on short-term contracts we often had no salary at all. I’d have done the sodding chauffeur’s job myself quite happily at that time, at least it would have been a stable income.

Yet another scandal involving the abuse of learning disabled people has hit the London-based media today. An organisation called the ‘Atlas Project Team’ who owned two homes in Devon – which were ‘isolated farmhouses’ has been prosecuted. The founder of the ‘Atlas Project Team’, a Paul Hewitt, has been fined £12,500 with £105,000 costs. Paul Hewitt is described as ‘a well known figure in mental health who helped formulate national policies on caring for people with learning disabilities in the community’. Well that’s pretty much par for the course – this blog has named scores of ‘experts in mental health’ or ‘service user representatives’ who have either colluded with or ignored the most dreadful abuses. It’s how one becomes an expert in those fields. Jolyon Marshall, the Director of Atlas, has been jailed for 28 months for conspiracy to falsely imprison and perverting the course of justice. A number of other managers and staff have received suspended jail terms or other non-custodial sentences. This case has been running for six years, but reporting restrictions have only just been lifted. The fascinating feature of this case is that a number of people have been prosecuted for doing what is almost standard practice in hospitals and ‘homes’ for people with learning disabilities and mental health problems, namely locking people in what are euphemistically called ‘quiet rooms’ but what in reality are bare rooms with no bathroom facilities or furnishings except for a mattress on the floor. I am delighted to see someone prosecuted for this and I look forward to hundreds more prosecutions, because this is going on in just about every facility for the mentally ill/learning disabled across the UK. And the rationale for confining people to such seclusion rooms is also very shaky, as it was with Atlas. The prosecuting barrister Andrew Langdon QC stated that a ‘view was taken that residents had somehow learned to behave badly. That behaviour had to be unlearned. If they were kept in their long enough they would learn their lesson and change their behaviour’. This philosophy underpinned all ‘care’ on Taliesin ward in the Hergest Unit and I heard staff articulate this view constantly. Patients were not distressed, they were not ill, they were bad and locking them in a seclusion room (or of course having them arrested) was the answer. Indeed, now that Jolyon Marshall has gone to prison for conspiracy to falsely imprison and perverting the course of justice I look forward to a few arrests of Hergest staff and NHS managers because that is exactly what they did to me – and to a lot of other people.

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of CQC, admitted that they ‘should have acted earlier’ over Atlas and admits that concerns had been raised. So once more, the CQC stood by whilst people were abused. But what do we expect – Sir Robert Francis QC is a leading light in the CQC. The Robert Francis QC who, whilst working as a barrister for the MDU, tried to have me imprisoned for ‘harassment’ – because I was writing many letters maintaining that people working in the mental health services in north Wales had illegally imprisoned me and had committed perjury (please see post ‘The Sordid Role of Sir Robert Francis QC’).

Perhaps someone would also like to begin mounting prosecutions in the face of another near universal practice in mental health, that of ‘not stimulating’ people who are deemed to be psychotic. This is going on in the Hergest unit and in the Heddfan Unit and in reality it means providing patients with an environment as bare as possible – not even pictures on the walls. Because patients might become ‘stimulated’. (I really don’t think that there’s much chance of that, as they’re parked in front the TV all day and loaded up with anti-psychotics.) In fact Taliesin ward in Hergest was so keen not to stimulate patients that the staff didn’t talk to them – and they told the patient’s families not to talk to them either. I know this because I knew the mother of a teenaged boy who became seriously unwell and spent a long time on Taliesin ward not being talked to, on the orders of the ‘experts’ who ran that place and presided over the constant suicides there. The staff did communicate with me whilst I was a patient in there though – indeed they shouted at me, they swore at me and on one occasion four of them assaulted me. Presumably it’s only talking to people or looking at pictures that causes over-stimulation.

Jan Tregalles, the Chief Exec of Mencap, and Vivien Cooper, the Chief Exec of the Challenging Behaviour Foundation, put out a joint statement stating that Atlas offered ‘specialist care’ that cost up to £4000/week per person and that ‘poor commissioning’ from numerous local authorities and ‘weak inspection’ allowed an abusive culture to develop and sustain itself. Have they only just noticed? Bloggers like Mark Neary, Finola Moss and Sara Ryan have been trying to expose this for years. Indeed Sara Ryan seems to feel about Mencap the way that I feel about MIND – she has always termed them ‘Mencrap’. Mark Neary’s adult son Stephen was removed from his care for a year simply due to the fuckwittedness of their local authority and had Mark not been able to engage in a full scale battle through the Courts he would have lost Stephen for ever. Finola Moss had a similar experience with her daughter. Finola has taken a big interest in the huge amounts of money that are now being made by the private ‘care’ sector for housing learning disabled people in unsuitable, frequently abusive facilities, as well as in the constant supply of ‘expert witnesses’ and dishonest health and care professionals who are prepared to lie in Court in the face of carers complaining and simply accuse those carers of abuse themselves. The really great thing about most of these cases is that because they involve the Court of Protection, no-one can even publish what’s happening – until the learning disabled person dies in the ‘care’ of the ‘provider’. Mark Neary’s blog is doing an excellent job of exposing how this naked abuse and cruelty – and sheer idiocy – is disguised by the language of ’empowerment’, ‘independent living’, ‘service user involvement’ and associated hogwash.

News Round Up – And Murder Most Foul

MMail online have reported on yet another serious NHS mental health services failure. Jennifer and Graham Slack, a couple in their 60s, drowned in the River Yare near Great Yarmouth. They left a suicide note behind explaining that they were killing themselves because they were unable to get any help for Mrs Slack’s serious depression and anxiety problems, which she had endured for 20 years. The couple tied themselves together and jumped into the river. They also left behind another two suicide notes in their house, along with passports, financial documents and cash to pay for their funerals. It transpired that Mrs Slack’s GP had made an urgent referral to a psychiatrist at the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust but the letter had not been marked ‘urgent’, so it remained unattended until it was too late. Further details revealed at the inquest painted a familiar picture. Mrs Slack, a former nurse, had been on anti-depressants for many years. Her father died, leaving her as the main carer for her elderly mother. She went to see her GP and was referred to a ‘Well Being Service’ run by the Trust and then had two telephone appointments with a mental health nurse. Although she did claim to benefit from this, she began feeling very bad again the following month and returned to the GP. She and her husband met with the GP, Dr Donna Machin, told her how desperate they felt and stressed that they wanted to actually see someone – it was mentioned at the inquest that they had been given a mountain of documentation concerning ‘advice’. Dr Machin decided not to make an immediate referral to a community mental health team because although Mrs Slack had stated that she was feeling suicidal, she did not describe a ‘clear plan’ to commit suicide. A verdict of suicide was recorded. This case illustrates very well what is happening in the UK mental health services – there is a plethora of ‘well being initiatives’ and stacks of ‘advice on ‘mental health’ for people with mild ‘problems’, but very little treatment or care available for people who are becoming desperate and seriously ill. It does not seem to have occurred to those with a touching faith in the benefits of ‘talking about it’ or ‘raising awareness’ or ‘self-help literature’ that such things are not going to make a blind bit of difference to someone who’s crashed out in a foetal position and who can’t stop crying. They won’t be able to ‘share’ or ‘talk’ or raise their awareness even if such things were effective (and there’s not much evidence that they are). It’s interesting that Mrs Slack was a former nurse as well – even healthcare professionals themselves are having difficulty extracting a ‘service’ out of the ‘services’ these days. As is customary when Mail online report a suicide story, there was a little note at the end of the article suggesting that suicidal people should contact the Samaritans for assistance. There’s no point bothering if they live in Bangor, the Samaritans there are remarkably unconcerned if someone with mental health problems becomes suicidal because ‘these people’ kill themselves anyway and furthermore the Samaritans ‘aren’t trained’ to deal with them (please see previous posts).

Recent blog posts have been charting the Top Doctors allies attempts to put the case for huge more quantities of funding for the NHS now that the pleas of the Top Doctors themselves have fallen on deaf ears. It’s now the turn of healthcare researchers to assist the Top Doctors in pursuit of dosh. The Guardian online is carrying an article explaining that a crisis (yet another one) is imminent, as usual attributed to people having the nerve to live too long and/or daring to develop dementia. The solution is more money please, to the NHS and to social care. I am entirely sympathetic to the notion of properly funded social care, but I notice that whenever the Top Doctors and their chums are leading the debate, there is not a robust argument put forward in favour of social care workers being paid properly. It is sometimes mentioned in passing, but the Top Doctors relentlessly present the argument for themselves being paid more, or sometimes nurses as well. Social care workers endure the worst pay and conditions of any group of non-trafficked workers in the country – you wouldn’t get a Top Doctor or indeed a member of the Royal College of Nursing lifting immobile doubly incontinent elderly people off beds and into chairs and then back again or feeding them by hand and changing incontinence pads for £8/hour, day in day out working twelve hour shifts. The outcry about this is indeed there, it rears it’s head when someone makes a documentary exposing the shoddy state of the UK’s social care infrastructure, but these workers are rendered invisible in most of the ‘the NHS needs more money’ debates. The Guardian quotes Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (she’s getting wheeled out in the media on a regular basis at the moment) as saying that not only is ‘more investment’ in the NHS desperately needed, but that it is a ‘great testament to medical research and the NHS’ that the population is living longer. Well although modern medicine has given us all effective pain relief which is a very great blessing, the real advances in terms of extending life span are of course attributed to the big public health advances such as infection control, decent housing, improved nutrition, sanitation and changes in the nature of employment meaning that people don’t die in industrial accidents before they are 40 which used to be commonplace. The average lifespan of the quarrymen at the bottom of the hierarchy in the slate quarries of north west Wales was 32 (or it might have been 36). That wasn’t because they didn’t have the NHS with Top Doctors earning £100,000, it was because their diet was subsistence, their housing was terrible and their work was very dangerous indeed. And of course even with the NHS and the Top Doctors there are still huge differences in lifespan between different socio-economic groups in the UK. As Top Doctors themselves know well, Sir Richard Doll saved many more lives by demonstrating the link between tobacco smoking and lung cancer than highly paid Top Doctors with machines that go ping or access to the Cancer Drugs Fund. Helen Stokes-Lampard also made her comments with reference to dementia which was a bit puzzling – research hasn’t yet made a dent in dementia.

Now for Wales-related news. BBC News Wales have reported that four men have now been convicted variously of murder and manslaughter after Mark Mason from Rhyl was stabbed to death in the car park of Home Bargains in Rhyl. This killing was a revenge killing after somebody else was murdered – it is part of an on-going turf war between two rival gangs of drug dealers who are busy killing each other for the right to control the supply of drugs in Rhyl. So Dafydd and CAIS are continuing to do a really brilliant job with the millions of pounds that the Welsh Gov’t are giving them to ‘tackle substance abuse and associated problems’ then. (The joke among the dope blowers in Bethesda was always that CAIS was the acronym for ‘Come And Inject Some’, but I note that CAIS is also the acronym for Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, which is a pretty good description of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones where female patients are concerned.) I have heard from a reader today that as well as getting millions in funding from the Welsh Gov’t, CAIS are also raking in huge quantities of dosh from the DWP. Someone else who doesn’t seem to realise that CAIS has been a scam from the outset observed that CAIS has ‘lost its way’. This person works for the CAB – the dreadful Lucille Hughes of CAIS fame also of course has a role at a very senior level in the management of CAB, so I imagine that people in the CAB will have been led up the garden path as to the value of CAIS, so if they’ve noticed that all is not well it must be bad. If any readers know when Lucille became involved in the CAB I’d be interested to hear from them. I met the one honest solicitor in Bangor who very effectively defended me from the excesses of Dafydd and Lucille when he was doing sessions at the CAB in Bangor and Dafydd knew that was where I’d sought his advice. Within months of that solicitor advising me as to how to defend myself from Dafydd, CAB had stopped providing free legal advice sessions. Knowing how Dafydd and Lucille literally nobbled everyone who dared stand up to them and wreaked a Terrible Revenge on anyone who challenged their corruption I have always wondered if there might have been a connection with the disappearance of the lawyers from the CAB and this man’s effective fighting of my corner against Dafydd. After all, if word got around that there was an excellent lawyer providing free legal advice who wasn’t afraid to challenge Dafydd and who wouldn’t allow himself to be corrupted either, who knows what problems that would have presented for Dafydd, Lucille, the mental health services and the north Wales paedophile ring.

Kirsty Williams has taken a leaf out of Leanne’s book and has been giving media interviews about the trauma that she has incurred after being insulted by the electorate, both face to face and on social media. As part of her Misery Memoir she mentioned how frightened she was when she found that someone had put a ‘Vote Conservative’ poster in her hedge. She commented that ‘someone probably thought that was very funny’. Well it is quite witty in view of the fact that Kirsty’s in-laws are a well-known Tory family but support her because she’s a relative – presumably the poster in her hedge was a reference to this. Perhaps Kirsty’s in-laws are hoping that she will be Wales’s answer to Nick Clegg and form a ConDem coalition with the Tories. Another Strong Woman in politics suffered a trauma recently as well – Theresa May went to Wrexham campaigning and was confronted by a young man who was an anti-hunt protestor. He blew a bugle in her presence and this was deemed to be such a threat to national security that he was arrested. Theresa is clearly even more delicate than the rest of them, so much for ‘strong and stable’.

Earlier today, Radio 4 broadcast a programme that mentioned that a number of ‘expert witnesses’ who lied in court are facing imprisonment. In view of the number of times that various Top Doctors lied about me on oath my ears pricked up at this news. It transpires that there has been industrial scale perjury going on with regard to insurance claims after car accidents and someone’s finally decided to round everybody up and prosecute them. It was mentioned that police and barristers knew that this was going on but ignored it, so now there may be prosecutions mounted against some of them as well. Oh well perhaps the days of those we know and love lying through their teeth in court with impunity in order to secure convictions against anyone who has discovered their extensive corruption might be drawing to a close. I read in the Daily Post online that HMP Berwyn is opening another wing with capacity for 700 inmates. You could house an awful lot of dishonest Top Doctors, Top Lawyers and Top Judges in there and there’d still be a spare cell for Peter Higson and Martin Jones to share.

Discussing the corruption of the vile ones brings me neatly onto the next thing that caught my eye in the Daily Post online, an article by the man who found the body of Sophie Hook, describing his memories of that event. Sophie was a seven year old girl who’s body was found washed up on the beach in Llandudno in July 1995. Howard Hughes, a man with learning disabilities, behaviour problems and dyslexia who had previously spent time in Bryn Estyn, one of the children’s homes targeted by the north Wales paedophile ring, is currently serving a 50 year prison sentence for her abduction, rape and murder. Howard Hughes’s case has been taken up by INNOCENT, an organisation concerned with miscarriages of justice. There is certainly an awful lot to be worried about regarding his conviction.

Sophie was on holiday with relatives who lived in Llandudno and she and her cousins were sleeping in a tent in the garden when she went missing. Her body was found washed up on a beach a few hours later and Howard Hughes was arrested a few hours after that. There was no forensic evidence at all against Hughes, just an awful lot of people who knew that he was a Wrong ‘Un and some witnesses of very questionable character. Before Sophie was killed however, Hughes’s life had already been touched many times by those we have known. Howard Hughes looked frightening – he had a chromosome abnormality (XYY) which caused him to grow quickly to a very great height. So he was very tall even as an early teen and by the time that he stopped growing he was 6ft 8ins. He attended a series of special schools, including some residential ones, and his father, who seemed to have difficulty coming to terms with his son’s disabilities, paid for extra tuition. Hughes did not gain any qualifications. When he was 16, it was alleged that Hughes took a seven year old boy into a derelict house, exposed himself, made indecent suggestions and attempted to strangle him. He was convicted of assault and was given a two year supervision order and was sent under the Mental Health Act to St Andrews Hospital, Northampton and then to Garth Angharad near Dolgellau. Both of these institutions have previously featured on this blog. St Andrews is a very troubled institution and has been so for many years. It has recently been the subject of a number of scandals involving the mistreatment and deaths of patients. I have a friend who grew up in Northampton and he told me that St Andrews had a reputation like the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, a lawless hell-hole. St Andrews featured in the Jeremy Bamber case in the 1980s (please see post ‘Family Annihilation’) and was alleged to have provided very substandard care to Jeremy Bamber’s sister. Garth Angharad of course was one of the personal prisons used by Dafydd and the paedophile ring (please see post ‘More On Those Prisons For Folk Who Dared Complain’). A lot of people who complained about them seemed to end up in there, an establishment described as a ‘hospital for mentally abnormal criminals’. After his release Hughes lived with his mother in Colwyn Bay. By the age of 19, he had convictions for assault, burglary, theft, criminal damage, threatening behaviour, motoring offences and possession of weapons. Such a record sounds dreadful – but Hughes was living in north Wales in the 70s and 80s and was in the ‘care’ of the mental health services and children’s services, which were rife with corruption and concealing a paedophile ring to boot. At the time that Hughes clocked up this criminal record, Dafydd and the Top Doctors had tried to have me prosecuted for, among other things, trying to strangle a doctor, trying to stab a doctor, ‘five assaults’, criminal damage and threatening behaviour. I hadn’t done any of it – as a letter from their own corrupt lawyer Andrew Park at the Welsh Office admitted – but that didn’t stop them all documenting that I had. The only conviction that they secured against me was ‘staring at a social worker in Safeway’s’ no less – but then I was a young woman with two degrees and an excellent solicitor. They managed to cause quite enough trouble for me nonetheless – had I been 6ft 8ins with a learning disability I’m pretty sure that I too would have acquired a criminal record very similar to that of Hughes. It is also recorded that before Sophie’s murder, Hughes had been accused of indecently assaulting three girls aged three, five and nine and was interviewed in connection with five allegations ‘brought by or on behalf of children’. These cases were dropped by the CPS because it was considered that the children were too young to give reliable evidence. I would have thought that a nine year old was well capable of giving reliable evidence and indeed nine year olds do give evidence, so I wonder why that case went pear shaped. But it’s worth mentioning here that those we have known have a bit of a thing about ‘children’ (apart from running a paedophile ring themselves that is). At the cover-up which constituted the investigation into my complaint about Dafydd et al by Robert Bluglass (please see post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’), Dafydd told Bluglass that I had used ‘foul and abusive language’ in front of his young children and anyone who does such a thing is ‘not mentally normal’. I didn’t even know that Jones had young children when this allegation was made. Jones was not asked to provide any evidence for his allegation and I wasn’t even told that he’d made it – I only found out when I read the report. It was documented as fact. My post ‘A Trade In People – Between London And North Wales’ describes how a young woman from a family of three people with long-term mental health problems who were swindled out of their inheritance by a group of Top Doctors and lawyers was taken to Bethesda police station and accused of having a sexual interest in children within days of moving into the village. I know of another person who, after he made a complaint about the dreadful Tom Harney, a CPN with the aggressive and dysfunctional Arfon Community Mental Health Team, years later discovered that Harney had documented that he’d threatened to kill Harney and his family. This man didn’t know that Harney had a family. On one occasion, Dr X (Dr Tony Francis) accused me of ‘frightening children’. God knows how I did that, as with Dafydd and the foul and abusive language, there weren’t any children present at the scene for me to frighten even if I’d wanted to do so. There is among my medical records a letter written by Alun Davies, the manager of the mental health services, which has been cc’d to a number of people explaining that if Gwynedd Health Authority looked as though they are taking a ‘caring’ attitude towards me, this would stand them in good stead with the Courts next time they prosecuted me. Following the writing of this letter, the Top Doctors prosecuted me for making offensive telephone calls to a CPN in the Arfon Team, one Bridget Lloyd. I hadn’t done this and I was found not guilty (no I never received an apology). However, in her evidence to the Court, Bridget Lloyd stated that she was so terrified of me and that I was such a threat to her and her young children – again, more children that I didn’t know existed – that not only was Gwynedd Health Authority going to provide her and the legendary children with a safe house, but that she had been issued with a mobile phone to carry with her at all times lest she bumped into me and I attacked her. Some weeks ago when I received further bundles of evidence from my lawyers, I found a memo written by Bridget Lloyd just before this court case in which she states that I had only ever met her once, it was a very long time ago and that she was fairly sure that I wouldn’t recognise her. But that’s not what she said to the Court. This lot lie, they lie and they lie and they lie. And they really love introducing the concept of children into their tall stories. Indeed even Brown has had the children treatment from them. After we started publishing material about the practices of the mental health services and Brown provided a witness statement concerning their wrongdoing, a poison pen letter postmarked ‘Cardiff’ was sent to the authorities at the University where he works, which stated that he was a ‘known paedophile’ (please see post ‘A Nasty Ludicrous Poison Pen Letter’). Yes the paedophile gang and those who assisted them really enjoyed accusing other people of offences against children. Often people whom they had damaged themselves. Including possibly Howard Hughes.

Another thing that I need to mention here is those we have known take what a friend described as ‘pre-emptive action’ against people whom they might want to frame in the future. My own medical records show how Dafydd and Dr X (Dr Tony Francis) were very carefully building up a picture of me as a dangerous nutter for many months before they started court action against me. And it was all very skilfully done – letters detailing violent assaults that never took place were written and cc’d to people who had never met me. Those people would then make statements maintaining that they were frightened of me because I was ‘known’ to be ‘dangerous’ and then these statements were  used as evidence that I was so dangerous that people were frightened of me. I have collated all these letters and taken a note of the dates and what was cc’d to whom and it was very obviously co-ordinated and organised – and it began days after I made my first complaint about the mental health services. The friend who talked about ‘pre-emptive action’ also used a lawyer to obtain a full copy of his medical records and exactly the same process could be seen. Within days of making a formal complaint about the Arfon Team, it was documented that he had smashed down a door at their office and threatened female members of staff. He wasn’t told that this had been documented, but he was told that they were ‘upset’ because he had sworn at them and thrown a cushion across the room (which he did, he was at the end of his tether with them) and Tony Francis ordered him to write a letter of apology. He agreed – and Francis suggested wording which would be ‘helpful’. The wording that my friend was encouraged to use was to apologise for his ‘behaviour’ and for ‘upsetting and frightening’ staff. So he did as suggested. When, years later, he received his medical records, he discovered that his apology – as dictated by Francis – had been attached to an unsigned fallacious account of the incident, ie. the alleged smashing down of the door and threatening women. So this sequence of documents gave every impression that my friend had smashed down a door, threatened women and then realised how terrible his actions had been and he had thus guiltily apologised a few days later. This man is an accountant and a businessman. If those we have known fitted us up using these techniques I can only imagine the fun that they had with a man who had learning difficulties and literacy problems.

So, some time after all these offences against children that Hughes was ‘linked to’ but never charged with, Sophie was found dead and hours later Hughes was arrested. Within hours he was released on the grounds that the police had no evidence against him. But hours after that, they searched his home and very conveniently found indecent images of children, so Hughes was rearrested. Hours later he was charged with the abduction, rape and murder of Sophie on the basis of ‘further information’ that had been acquired. The details of this further information were not revealed. Hughes was remanded in custody until the trial in June 1996. There was no forensic evidence presented against him at his trial. However there were some very interesting witness statements. He had been spotted looking around on the ground in the area near the garden where Sophie and her cousins had pitched their tent. The witness claimed that Hughes had said that he was searching for some money that he dropped. It was stated at the trial that from that spot Hughes would have been able to hear the children talking in the tent – and that he would have heard them discussing how they were going to sleep in the tent. There was no evidence at all that he’d heard any such thing – but it was possible. You never know. It is recorded that later that day  ‘it is believed’ that Hughes tried to abduct six year old Alexandra Roberts who was performing handstands in a park but who then ran away. It is not explained why this was ‘believed’ – there is no record of any evidence that any such abduction attempt was made. (At one point on my medical records it is stated that ‘it is believed’ that I was in Risley Remand Centre after attacking someone with a knife. I’ve never been in Risley Remand Centre – not even as a visitor – and I’ve never attacked anyone with a knife. But someone believed that I was and I had. So it was written down and placed in my medical records.) At 2-55 am on the night that Sophie was sleeping in the tent, Hughes was spoken to by a policeman who saw him patrolling the promenade. Which was a convenient time for the policeman to have seen Hughes up and about in Llandudno, because Sophie’s cousin gave evidence stating that he woke up at 2-30 am and saw Sophie asleep beside him but when he woke up again at 7-15 am she was missing. At the trial, Hughes’s father – whom Hughes had not lived with for years – stated that Hughes had confessed to killing Sophie when he was taken into custody by the police. Hughes denied making this confession. Another witness, Jonathan Carroll – a career criminal who was in prison at the time that he testified – stated that he’d seen Hughes carrying a hessian sack along a street in Llandudno on the night of the murder and that he saw a glimpse of a naked body in the sack. He admitted that he was in the process of stealing property from someone’s garden when he saw the body in the sack which is presumably why he didn’t take action there and then. Unless seeing people strolling around Llandudno with a dead body in a sack is a day to day occurrence for him and thus he didn’t raise an eyebrow. A third witness was a convicted child sex offender, Michael Guidi, who told the Court that Hughes had boasted to him a few years before that he would like to rape a girl of four or five. Which sounds to me rather more like the fantasy of a child sex offender than a credible piece of evidence.

Miscarriages of justice tend to happen in cases where there is much emotion in the wake of a truly horrible crime. As well as hearing witness statements by Hughes’s father – who had always been rather desperate about his son – and two ne’er do wells, the jury also heard details of the injuries inflicted upon Sophie. It was stated that the injuries were inflicted before she died. Her arm and ankle were broken, her body was covered in bruises as though she’d been slapped about the face and head, she had internal bleeding and had been raped and sodomised. The Court was told that the sort of injuries that she sustained were normally seen on people who had been killed or injured in major car crashes. It was stated that her death had been as a result of manual strangulation and that her body had been thrown into the sea ‘to wash away forensic evidence’ (how would someone simply carrying out an examination of the body know this?). Sophie’s clothes were not found at the time that her body was. The court also heard that Sophie had been in so much pain before she died that there were teeth marks on both sides of her tongue and on the inside of her lower lip. So there will no doubt have been a lot of high emotion in that Court after hearing all this. Who was it who gave the evidence regarding Sophie’s injuries? None other than the illustrious Home Office pathologist Dr Donald Wayte. Wayte hit the UK media a few years before Sophie was killed because he announced publicly that nearly all children who were presumed to have died from cot death had been murdered by their parents. He had no evidence at all for saying this, but say it he did because He Knew. It caused a very big furore with many deeply distressed people who’d lost a child to cot death speaking publicly about the offence that Wayte caused. But no-one pointed out that the really worrying thing was that a pathologist who was responsible for giving evidence in murder trials felt able to spout hogwash on a subject about which he knew nothing on the basis of no evidence. And a few years later he gave evidence at the trial of Howard Hughes. But Wayte had a disregard for protocol on other matters too. I know someone whose mother was friends with Donald Wayte who, when this person was 15, was interested in ‘what goes on in a hospital’. So Donald Wayte took him in and showed him the lot. No worries about trivial matters such as ethics or procedure there… Interestingly enough, there is a Dr Avril Wayte who sits on the Board of CAIS along with Dafydd and Lucille – she’s a pathologist too. Very probably the wife or daughter of Donald. It’s a small world when you’re a Top Doctor.

Howard Hughes was found guilty of the abduction, rape and murder of Sophie Hook in July 1996. At Chester Crown Court. The Chester Crown Court where there was an attempt to imprison me after the Arfon Community Mental Health Team had perjured themselves (see post ‘The Arfon Community Mental Health Team’). The Chester Crown Court where the Rev Emyr Owen was found guilty and imprisoned for a crime that could not have happened (see post ‘Updates, Common Themes And News, May 5 2017’). The Chester Crown Court that was part of the Chester and Wales Circuit that was known to have a problem with corruption. But then the North Wales Police who investigated Sophie’s murder were also alleged to be riddled with corruption. The North Wales Police had been under the spotlight at the time of Hughes’s arrest and conviction. At the time of Sophie’s murder, the Jillings Report was being compiled. The Jillings Report was the investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse scandal that was commissioned by Clwyd County Council. The Chief Constable of North Wales had refused to co-operate with the enquiry and the police had withheld 130 boxes of files from the enquiry panel. Jillings and his team encountered such obstruction and difficulties during their investigation that they nearly resigned. The Chair of Social Services and the County Secretary and Solicitor told the North Wales Police and the Home Office that what were described as ‘profoundly serious allegations’ against the police should not be investigated. The Jillings Report was famously not published after it was completed in 1996 on the basis of legal advice given to Clwyd County Council. They were effectively told that what had gone on was so bad that they should refuse to publish any of it and destroy all copies of the Report. One month after Clwyd Council accepted this legal advice, a reorganisation of the local authorities in north Wales very conveniently resulted in Clwyd Council being dissolved. At this point the Independent newspaper began calling for a public inquiry. In June 1996 William Hague, the Secretary of State for Wales, announced the North Wales Child Abuse Enquiry. The following month Howard Hughes was convicted and imprisoned.

But north Wales was going a bit mad between 1994 and 1996 anyway. The North Wales Hospital Denbigh was closing down and Dafydd was completely losing it – well there were all those people illegally detained out there, he must have wondered what he was going to do with them. Furthermore people just would not stop making allegations that they had been sexually abused whilst in children’s homes in north Wales – and those people had started turning up dead. The most well known of these people outside of Wales was Mark Humphreys. At the end of 1994, Gordon Anglesea, a senior police officer with the North Wales Police, sued Private Eye and The Independent for libel after they accused him of being a paedophile. Mark gave evidence that Anglesea was indeed a paedophile. Anglesea won the case. Mark was found dead two months later. Last year Gordon Anglesea was imprisoned – for sexually abusing children. He died in prison a few months after his conviction. Gordon Anglesea lived at Colwyn Bay – just down the road from Llandudno! The North Wales Police HQ was at Colwyn Bay as well! As for the lives of those of us who had dared complain about the mental health services – well it was in 1994 that the mental health services started moving heaven and earth yet again to have me convicted of something. Anything would do, it didn’t really matter what. I was charged with making the offensive phone calls to Bridget Lloyd at this time and Dr Tony Francis – who was one of the people who insisted that I should be arrested and charged – then helpfully wrote a report for the Court recommending what should be done WHEN I was found guilty. Only I was cleared, so that plan was out of the window. Regular readers of the blog will remember Mary Wynch, the lady who was illegally imprisoned in the North Wales Hospital for a year and who sued Dafydd and the Home Office. Well after the demands in Parliament for an investigation into her case suddenly died away, it was in 1995 that Mary, by now elderly and financially ruined, was given a pittance of a final payment authorised by the Home Office and told to finally piss off (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’).

The judge who presided over Howard Hughes’s trial was Justice Richard Curtis. In his summing up he denounced Hughes as a ‘fiend’. But from the minute that Sophie’s body was found – before Donald Wayte waxed lyrical about the detail of her injuries and people branched out into a bit of blue sky thinking regarding the reason why her body had been thrown into the sea – the police seemed to have a pretty good idea of the sort of person who would be arrested for this crime. The man in charge of the investigation, Detective Superintendent Eric Jones, declared that the person responsible for Sophie’s murder was ‘a brute who must be caught – quickly’. They found the brute that they were looking for a few hours later when they arrested Howard Hughes at the house that he shared with his mother. A remarkably snappy bit of detective work there from a police force who at that very time was refusing to co-operate with a major investigation into a possible paedophile ring operating in the institutions in which the brute that they arrested had spent time himself. As a learning disabled child. Who even if he had raped and murdered Sophie Hook would probably have never known that forensic evidence would be lost if the body was thrown into the sea and her clothes were not found. I tell you who would know all about destroying forensic evidence though – someone with knowledge of police investigations. Such as a policeman who was a paedophile.

In September 1997 the Court of Appeal granted leave to Hughes to appeal against his conviction. Six months later north Wales was further outraged when the brute claimed that he’d been abused whilst in Bryn Estyn and launched a claim for £50,000 compensation. Two weeks after the brute launched this claim, the Court of Appeal rejected his bid to have his convictions quashed. A second appeal was made in 2001 – the Court decided that there was no grounds to quash the convictions. The judges at this appeal ruled that there must be no more contestations unless new evidence was discovered.

So Howard Hughes remains in prison – he’s now serving a 50 year sentence thanks to the intervention of dear old Blunkett when he was Home Secretary – on the word of a career criminal, a convicted child sex offender and his father, whom he didn’t seem to have the best of relationships with. And upon the fact that he was obviously a fiend and a brute, after a life at the hands of a thoroughly corrupt mental health service, a children’s service that had a paedophile gang operating in it’s children’s homes and a police force that had a well-established reputation for corruption and that employed a senior officer who was a child molester himself. But if Hughes is ever let out of prison someone might have to ask who did kill Sophie and how did Hughes ever end up serving a fifty year sentence on the personal recommendation of David Blunkett on the basis of such flimsy evidence…

News Round Up, May 2, 2017

A few weeks ago I blogged about the scams that I witnessed in fertility clinics  in the early 1990s (see post ‘Every Sperm Is Sacred – Especially In Scotland’). I suspected that practices won’t have changed much since then, because many of the people named in that post are still practising. So I was interested to read the Mail Online expose of fertility clinics this morning – the Mail sent undercover journalists in to a number of clinics and yes, they uncovered scams and profiteering, in some instances the very same scams that I saw years ago. They discovered NHS patients being pressurised to donate eggs for private clinics, an illegal trade in eggs, pointless extra ‘treatments’ being flogged, supposedly ‘natural’ treatments that are clinically ineffective and clinics charging astronomical prices for drugs that can be obtained much more cheaply on prescription from places like Boots. Lord Robert Winston has commented that some of his colleagues have no ethical or moral compass – which is true and I’m glad that he’s finally admitted it, but Robert Winston has known this for years. He probably didn’t participate in these practices himself – he had a very sound reputation – but everyone knew that this sort of thing was going on. And of course the serial sexual harassing gynaecologist who worked at St Georges Hospital Medical School mentioned in previous posts had previously worked with Robert Winston at Hammersmith. I rather suspect that Winston wasn’t going to tolerate this man’s conduct himself, so he passed him onto St George’s – who, as I explained in a previous post, passed him to Wales where he was now been for many years. What nobody did was flag up his behaviour and remove him from circulation.

A reader has drawn my attention to the fact that HMP Berwyn has won an award no less – for building design! What have we come to when a warehouse on an industrial estate built to house the dispossessed whom the mental health services refuse to care for wins an award? Is this really the best that Wales can produce?

BBC News Wales have reported on the difficulties that Gypsies and Travellers have ‘engaging’ with the NHS. The NHS is in such a sorry state that I’m not sure that the Gypsies and Travellers are missing out on much – and attitudes to them are appalling. A farming family whom I know in Snowdonia have a daughter who trained as a nurse at Oxford Brookes. This young woman is very diligent but isn’t much of a critical thinker – if she is taught that something is ‘right’, she accepts it without question, a characteristic that is prevalent among student nurses who are told that they are being taught by ‘experts’ in ‘nursing science’. She told her mum all about the ‘problems’ that she had when she had to visit Gypsy and Traveller families because they don’t vaccinate their children (which of course a lot of middle class families in north London wouldn’t after Andrew Wakefield told everyone that the MMR vaccine led to children developing autism). It’s OK if you’re dealing with Gypsies though – this young woman was told to tell the Gypsies that if they didn’t vaccinate their children they’d be taken into care. Problem solved! Is it surprising that they’re not ‘engaging’…

The Guardian is reporting on Hospeda, a private company operating in NHS hospitals – I think in England – who are charging patients astronomical amounts of money for telephone and TV packages. Tim Farron has taken up the cause as part of his election campaign.

Talking of politics, Blair has announced that he’s coming back! Yes, the man whom the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu called ‘the most dangerous man in the world’ is returning to politics because we need him, although we haven’t realised it. I wonder if he’ll be bringing back the rest of his dreadful coterie with him, eg. Mandelson, Alistair Campbell et al. Of course it was Blair who kick-started much of the insanity in the health and welfare services that this blog discusses – the jack boot of the state taking choice away from people under the guise of ‘social inclusion’ (such as those pesky Gypsies who won’t have their kids vaccinated), Blunkett dishing out whole life tariffs to people with learning disabilities who have probably been framed by the north Wales mental health services and their associates in a paedophile ring, Charlie Falconer and Vera Baird abolishing Legal Aid because too many people looked as though they were going to win cases against the British State, that business of 81 people telling various New Labour ministers that an awful lot of people seemed to be dying in the care of Mid-Staffs but whose requests for an enquiry were ignored, that ill-thought out GP contract that has led to the current problems with the out of hours service. And of course it was under Blair that ‘service user involvement’ really flourished – whilst people died. I won’t even get going on him advising various dictators with dreadful records on human rights and Cherie’s legal practice advising very similar people on their own ‘human rights’ after they have overthrown democratically elected Gov’ts. Has Blair not worked out that the present chaos in the Labour Party is a direct result of him parachuting in the likes of Tristram Hunt into safe seats whom the grassroots didn’t want and who had no interest in their constituents anyway? Tristram didn’t give a bugger about people in Stoke On Trent, he just wanted a position in Cabinet. It’s why the membership kept voting for Jeremy Corbyn Blair – they’d had a bellyful of you and your sickening unscrupulous vacuous careerist shites on the make….Who were of course ‘intensely relaxed’ about ‘people getting filthy rich’ – particularly when it was them. So please, not Blair all over again, or Chuka, or Yvette, or Caroline Flint – it’ll be nearly enough to make me vote Tory. Ooh nearly forgot though – who was one of Blair’s first visitors to Number 10 after his election? Thatcher! She was invited to tea. At which point a number of my friends returned their Labour Party membership cards.

Updates and News Round-Up, March 22 2017

I’ve spotted a few things today that are pertinent to recent blog posts. Earlier on I checked the Betsi website for any interesting developments and I found this http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/861/news/44346

So two cancer surgeons from the Betsi are undertaking a fundraising cycle ride between Conwy and Cardiff. These two doctors are Richard Peevor and Simon Leeson from the North Wales Gynaecological Cancer Surgical Centre at Ysbyty Gwynedd. They are aiming to raise funds for ‘Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust’ to carry out ‘vital research’ into why one in five women still fail to attend for their smear test. Simon Leeson is a consultant gynaecologist and oncologist with the Betsi and is quoted as saying that ‘there are still many women who don’t attend a smear test when invited and we need to look at why this is happening and what can be done to encourage more to attend… it’s obviously a cause close to our hearts’. The article goes on to explain that Simon Leeson also holds clinics at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, in addition to his work at Ysbyty Gwynedd and that both Simon and Richard have widely published on cervical screening and colposcopy and host teaching courses for colposcopists around the world.

Sounds as though this Simon Leeson is at the top of his game then – another Betsi expert. A few days ago I blogged in detail about the recent bloody history of obs and gynae in north Wales and described how even during the 1980s women could not access terminations in north Wales because a cartel of local doctors worked very hard to prevent them doing so; how women miscarrying were treated appallingly at St David’s Hospital in Bangor because it was assumed that they had procured an abortion; how women seeking terminations were sent to dear old Dr Dafydd Alun Jones at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh to be ‘assessed’ although they would not be granted an abortion on the NHS anyway; how babies were sustaining brain damage in botched deliveries and the parents were not told; how people who dared complain in the event of stillbirths were deliberately referred to a monster of a senior nurse with the expectation that she would intimidate them into withdrawing their complaint; how a baby was forcibly removed from one woman at birth and put up for adoption in a deal between this woman’s family and St David’s because this woman’s mother was angry that she’d left her husband; and how one obstetrician at Ysbyty Gwynedd accepted bookings from private patients, pocketed their money and then refused to speak to them during examinations because he ‘didn’t like’ private patients. Please see blog post ‘The BMA And It’s Ethics’ to read about the horrors in detail. This post also mentioned another incident at Ysbyty Gwynedd, in which a patient undergoing gynaecological investigations arrived at the ‘operating theatre’ to discover that a schoolgirl in her mid-teens on a ‘work placement’ had been allowed into the hospital to watch such procedures. Neither were the patients being asked for their consent or even informed that this was going on – the patient involved in the case known to me only found out when she noticed a girl very obviously of school age sitting there and asked her who she was. So who was the consultant who had referred this patient for this investigation and had overall responsibility for this ‘team’ that included a school pupil who wasn’t even in the sixth form? It was Simon Leeson.

I don’t think Simon needs to bother to pedal across Wales to raise money to find out why women are turning down his generous offer of cervical smears. A minority of those women will not be bothering to participate because they know that the labs are in chaos – particularly at Ysbyty Gwynedd, I have heard first-hand accounts – and that any ‘result’ is highly likely to be wrong and could either therefore result in reassurance whilst there may be abnormal cells multiplying away busily or unnecessary recalls for the sort of treatment that Simon specialises in. However the reason that the majority of the women who don’t turn up for cervical smear tests are not appearing is because they have heard accounts from their friends regarding the sort of conduct that Simon and his colleagues regularly indulge in. Women tend to have a very good grapevine Simon and there’s a lot of hair-raising anecdotes circulating around Bangor. Furthermore they probably don’t have much confidence in the abilities of the local school pupils where gynaecological procedures are concerned. Of course, as well as working with a bunch of wayward clinicians at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Simon works at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. That is where the obs and gynae services are so bad that a team have been sent in by the Welsh Govt to, in the words of one the mentors, restore ‘normality’. I can only imagine what was happening there, because even Ysbyty Gwynedd with it’s unhinged practitioners and schoolgirls on the team has not yet been deemed in need of sessions on achieving ‘normality’.

There has been much on this blog in recent weeks regarding the opening of the ‘flagship’ prison at Wrexham, HMP Berwyn. Despite all the foolish hype in the local media, cracks are beginning to appear in this ‘project’ already. So what else can we expect but plans for building yet another monstrosity of a prison in Wales, to be situated at Port Talbot http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-39343442

So now that Port Talbot is losing it’s steel industry, they’re going to have a prison as a substitute to ‘boost their economy’ – exactly the same argument as the idiotic Hywel Williams MP used when he begged for a prison in north Wales. Research has shown that prisons do not regenerate areas where they are located, they kill those areas off. Wrexham’s fate is already sealed, let’s hope a more vigorous fight is put up to prevent the same happening at Port Talbot – although I don’t hold out much hope, the local AM David Rees welcomed the ‘jobs involved’, but urged caution about the implications for local communities. So what are the jobs that David Rees envisages boosting the economy of Port Talbot when this prison is established? It is reported that he said ‘Maybe when visitors come we’ll have opportunities for cafes and taxis to benefit. It’s an opportunity we cannot afford to miss and those jobs are important to us’. So the economy of Port Talbot is going to depend upon cafes and taxis for people visiting those incarcerated, which will of course be mostly people with mental health problems, drug problems or who are generally not able to cope under our present day neoliberal economy. Somehow I can’t see this being compensation for steel production. A follower of the blog has raised a moot point – the building of these prisons in Wales directly contradicts everything we hear about preventing people with mental health problems ending up in prison and helping drug users. So why are these establishments being welcomed with open arms? My correspondent has suggested that money will be somewhere at the root of this conundrum and that someone should start digging…

There has been more media coverage regarding the alleged drug problem in Wrexham, which has received much attention on this blog http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-east-wales-39343444

I note that a representative from CAIS and Carry Burton, a ‘harm reduction manager’ with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, have been wheeled out to talk to the BBC. I have previously described how CAIS seem to be doing nothing to help reduce the drug problem in north Wales despite being in the receipt of millions from the Welsh Gov’t via questionable commissioning and there seems to be no reduction in harm at all in spite of the role of the lady who works for the Betsi. I note that the news report mentions that it has been suggested that the presence of numerous Third Sector organisations in Wrexham providing ‘services’ for drug users, people with mental health problems, homeless people etc may be adding to the problem – it is certainly noticeable that the problems that these people are having do not seem to be addressed, so what exactly are these organisations doing?

The BMA and It’s Ethics

Today’s Mail Online has a headline screaming that a ‘Doctors’ Ethics Boss’ is expressing her ‘abhorrent’ views that women should be permitted to terminate a pregnancy on the grounds of the gender of the foetus alone http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4327606/Let-mums-abort-babies-wrong-sex-says-ethics-boss.html

The ‘doctors ethics boss’ in question is actually Professor Wendy Savage, a retired obstetrician and gynaecologist, who is a member of the BMA’s medical ethics committee. Prof Savage has given an interview to the Mail On Sunday in which she states her opinion that current legislation preventing terminations on the grounds of the gender of the foetus should be scrapped, that women should be able to request a termination at any stage of their pregnancy and that ‘abortion pills’ should be available to women online without them having to consult a nurse or a doctor. The Mail is horrified and has dug up Conservative MP Mark Field to provide a comment.

This report will come as no surprise to anyone who knows anything about Wendy Savage. She has supported abortion on demand for many years on feminist principles. The Mail Online mentions that Prof Savage developed her ‘strident views’ whilst working in Nigeria and Kenya and witnessing the effects of botched criminal abortions. They fail to mention that during her career in the UK, she worked in Tower Hamlets, which was I think the poorest region in the UK whilst she was working there, containing a lot of very marginalised women from immigrant communities. Wendy Savage worked with some women who were having a very hard time indeed and who were being exposed to the sort of violence, oppression and discrimination that most readers of the Mail On Sunday would know nothing of. Whether one agrees with abortion on demand or not, Wendy Savage knows a lot more about the factors that lead to unwanted pregnancies and the desperate measures to terminate those pregnancies than the Mail On Sunday does, or indeed probably Mark Field.

I was surprised to read that Wendy Savage is a member of the BMA ethics committee. Followers of the blog know that I have a very low opinion of the BMA and have exposed institutional corruption within the BMA on this blog. Wendy Savage suffered very badly at the hands of the medical establishment herself. Some readers may remember that she hit the media in the mid-1980s when she was suspended from her job at the London Hospital. It received an enormous amount of media publicity and a high-profile campaign was launched by an assorted group of patients and feminists to reinstate her. The media coverage at the time presented Wendy Savage as, variously, a female victim of a male-dominated profession, a socialist being harassed by a bunch of Tories, or as a practitioner favouring low-intervention deliveries coming up against practitioners who favoured high-tech births. However the reality seemed to be that she and the professor of the dept in which she worked simply loathed each other. Wendy Savage faced charges of incompetence which her supporters maintained were completely trumped up, the result of a trawling exercise. She was eventually cleared, but obstacles were nonetheless put in her way to prevent her making a speedy return to clinical work and it was years before she was able to resume her teaching role. I have described previously on this blog how just about the only thing that will actually cause a doctor to be suspended or struck off is them falling out with their colleagues – they can do pretty much anything malpractice-wise and it will be tolerated, but if they fall foul of their colleagues they’ll find themselves up on a disciplinary charge in front of the General Medical Council.

I attended a lecture given by Wendy Savage in the early 1990s and the one thing that I remember most is that she was not afraid to ruffle feathers. Most of the audience were obstetricians and Mrs Savage (this was before she was given a Chair) talked very firmly even back then of her belief that no doctor should ever prevent a woman from accessing a termination. A number of doctors present were ideologically against abortion and were refusing to participate in abortion – which they had the right to do – and they were told by Wendy Savage that if they felt like that then they shouldn’t be working in obs and gynae. That caused a lot of ill-feeling. She was then questioned regarding the rumours circulating that she was prepared to perform many repeat terminations on the same patients. She robustly defended herself, gave a sound defence of her practice – basically describing the chaotic lives and huge difficulties that such women were encountering – but elicited gasps of shock from the whole audience when she stated that she had performed I think something like 27 terminations on one patient. Most people in the audience just could not accept that. During the lecture I was particularly interested in one thing that she said. Wendy Savage told that audience that she knew that there were doctors in London at that time who were unlawfully preventing women from accessing abortion. She told of patients who had told her that when they had asked their GPs to refer them for an abortion, the GPs had said things like ‘it’s illegal for you to have an abortion, I’d be struck off the Register’. She observed that she believed that these women were telling the truth and quoting verbatim, because they were women with very low levels of education ‘who would not have known that a Register existed’. By the time that I attended this lecture, I’d had the North Wales Mental Health Services Experience, so I knew that doctors lied and broke the law – I was most interested to hear Mrs Savage admit it.

The Mail Online article mentions the suspicion that some women from South Asia are requesting terminations of female foetuses. I note that Wendy Savage maintains that there is actually no evidence that this is happening. This is interesting, because as I have mentioned, Wendy Savage worked with immigrant communities in Tower Hamlets. I also suspect that she is culturally rather more sensitive than a lot of people – she was married to a black man and I understand that she experienced a degree of racism herself because of this.

I always thought that Wendy Savage was rather different to the rest of the London medical establishment – she didn’t have the overbearing pomposity that so many of them flaunted and she certainly seemed to have a much greater understanding of poverty than most of them. However, I was interested to find out this morning that not only is Prof Savage a member of the BMA ethics committee, but that she also sat on the GMC for 16 years. That is the same GMC that allowed the likes of Harold Shipman to practice as well as many other people who should never have been let loose on the general public, the same GMC that ignored my concerns that terrible malpractice was happening in the mental health services in north Wales. The same GMC that forged a document that I now have a copy of in order to conceal the abuses and neglect at the Hergest Unit. So is Wendy Savage Of Them or not? She could have been a lone voice among the excesses of the BMA and GMC – or she could have been like Dr David Healy, Dr Richard Tranter, Dr DGE Wood, Dr Huw Roberts et al and have been giving a really good impersonation of someone who was not participating in the extensive wrongdoing but who was nonetheless in it up to their eyeballs. The jury is still out…

However, whilst all this was happening in London, I’d made a few observations about the state of obstetric/gynaecological care in north west Wales. I arrived at Bangor as a student in October 1981. That was many years after the 1967 Act made abortion legal. Yet what I remember most about Fresher’s Week at Bangor, more than all the clubs and societies imploring one to join, more than everyone making new friends in hall, was the Students Union distributing literature to all the freshers explaining what to do if you get pregnant. At first I thought that this was really distasteful, your cut out n keep guide on how to get an abortion – but then I read it and I realised that there was a very big problem. This literature was being handed out because the consultants at St David’s Hospital in Bangor were anti-abortion and had declared that they would ensure that women would not be able to access abortions in north Wales for any reason. And they were highly effective in doing this. So students were all made aware that if they wanted to terminate a pregnancy they would have to go to Chester to a private clinic because it was not possible to access abortion in north Wales. Full instructions were given regarding the people that you had to contact for help – and none of them were gynaecologists in north Wales. At this time the University had its own Student Health Centre – it’s where I ended up encountering T. Gwynne Williams, the lobotomist. I knew people at Bangor who did get pregnant whilst they were at University and who had terminations – the Student Health Centre were aware of this and they also knew that those students were going to Chester or were going back home if they became pregnant. From what I saw, both in terms of students with mental health problems or students with unwanted pregnancies, they were usually kept well away from the north Wales NHS – I suspect because if the middle-class parents of those students found out about some of the practices in the north Wales NHS there’d have been outrage. I also suspect that I presented a very big problem to the Student Health Centre because I was an undergrad who’d become ill but who wasn’t in a position to be sent back home – which is of course how I discovered so much about the malpractice that local people were clearly being subjected to. The cartel at St David’s and their ban on abortions had another consequence as well. I heard a first-hand account of a woman who was taken to St David’s experiencing a miscarriage. She was treated appallingly – because they thought that they had carried out a home abortion on herself. There was no evidence at all that this woman had done this and no reason to suspect that she would have wanted to – she was a professional person, a married mother of two young children who wanted more children. But what’s the betting that because it was impossible to obtain an abortion in north Wales, St David’s was seeing patients who had procured abortions and that’s why this lady was under suspicion?

It was many years before I was to discover the real horror that lay beneath the situation regarding women with unwanted pregnancies in north Wales however. Readers will probably be aware that under the 1967 Act, a woman is allowed a termination if her mental health will suffer if she continues with the pregnancy and birth. Well guess who was responsible for assessing the mental health of women who were requesting an abortion on those grounds? One Dr Dafydd Alun Jones at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh. A man who was known to sexually harass the female staff to such an extent that they didn’t want to be left alone with him, a man who cohabited with two female patients at once at one point, a man about whom five female patients made statements claiming that they had had a sexual relationship with him, a man who was known to have illegally imprisoned at least two women in Denbigh, a man who was sectioning people who complained about him, a man who tried to threaten and bribe patients into dropping their complaints about him, a man who was having a relationship with a woman who was concealing the activities of a paedophile ring, a man running mediocre ‘care homes’ where abuse and neglect was alleged, a man whom drug addicts told me would prescribe them ‘anything they wanted’ and ‘always write you a good court report’ (presumably if you paid him…) This was the man to whom women requesting abortions were allocated once they had been admitted to Denbigh for ‘assessment’. I can only imagine what will have gone on. And as abortions couldn’t be obtained in north Wales anyway, presumably unless those women stumped up the cash to go to Chester they won’t have ever been allowed an abortion, no matter what they agreed to do with Dafydd. Interestingly enough, another one of Dafydd’s ‘responsibilities’ at Denbigh at one point was the ‘women’s wing’. He’s just the sort of person that you want overseeing the ‘women’s wing’ isn’t he – particularly as the only person to whom he had to answer for years was the lobotomist and once the lobotomist was put out to grass Dafydd was completely unaccountable, as my documents demonstrate.

Somehow I suspect that the situation prevailing in north Wales in the 1980s regarding unwanted pregnancies in vulnerable women could better some of the historical horrors coming out of rural Ireland at the moment. A Magdalen laundry would have nothing on Dafydd, Gwynne the lobotomist and Denbigh.

Lest readers conclude that it was only women who were transgressing – or simply believed to be transgressing – in some way who found themselves on the receiving end of the delights of St David’s, I’ll enlighten you. It could happen to anyone who risked giving birth there. I knew a young woman in 1985 who was under enormous strain because her three year old son was severely physically disabled. He could not control his limbs or even hold himself up to sit up. The young woman and her husband had been recently told that their son had cerebral palsy and would be severely disabled for life. It was then admitted that the little boy’s disability had been caused by a birth injury at St David’s. I got to know this young woman quite well and she related an interesting story. When she had been in labour at St David’s she had told them all that she felt that things were not progressing as they should but was ignored and left alone. The level of pain that she was experiencing was ignored as well. She remembered that sometime after this, a midwife suddenly appeared in a panic and rushed her through to the delivery room. The birth was difficult but the young woman was assured that the baby was fine. As the baby grew older, this young woman noticed that he didn’t seem to be developing at the same rate as his peers and she constantly asked for medical opinion. She was repeatedly reassured that there was nothing wrong. It took the medical services in north Wales three years to admit what had happened and that her son would be severely disabled for life. After this young woman and her husband had been given this prognosis, they linked up with other parents who had disabled children. They met another couple whose child had suffered a serious birth injury during delivery at St David’s. The injury had occurred because the obstetrician who had delivered the baby had applied the forceps incorrectly, crushing the back of the baby’s neck. After this incident, the couple were told that the obstetrician had left Dt David’s and had taken up a post in Australia. Thirty years later, there will be two severely disabled adults still living with the effects of those cock-ups and lies. What’s the betting that neither of them will have been offered a penny compensation either.

I heard another everyday story of damaged folk from a member of staff at St David’s as well, again in 1985. I knew a woman who was well-educated but was divorcing a difficult man who had left her with nothing and was refusing to pay maintenance for their children, so she was in a desperate financial position. She therefore took on a number of jobs that were actually well below her level of ability through desperation and lack of opportunity, north Wales being what it was in 1985. One of these jobs was as a member of clerical staff at St David’s Hospital. This lady worked there for months and just watched what was going on. She seemed to be providing clerical support for a senior member of nursing/midwifery staff, whom she described as a real monster. The whole place lived in fear of her and no-one dared cross her path. The lady I knew also noticed something else. That the parents of babies who had been injured or stillborn and who had made a complaint were always offered a meeting with this senior member of staff. Who would then capitalise on their grief and distress and do all that she could to ensure that their complaint went no further. My informant told me that this seemed to have been a well thought out strategy.

Readers from north Wales will know that like Denbigh, St David’s Hospital was closed down and services moved elsewhere, in the case of St David’s into Ysbyty Gwynedd. Did those services improve? Not from what I heard, because as with Denbigh, the building was dispensed with rather than the staff. I have long since been aware of some extraordinary practices at Ysbyty Gwynedd and have documented many of these on this blog. It seems that laypeople have been given access to areas of Ysbyty Gwynedd without appropriate procedures being followed. This seems to have been happening when the children of friends of Ysbyty Gwynedd staff have shown an interest in ‘what happens in a hospital’ – it seems that these schoolchildren have literally been invited in by certain doctors to ‘observe’, without anyone’s permission being sought. I know of a man in Gwynedd who remembered that a pathologist at Ysbyty Gwynedd, one Dr Donald Wayte, ‘was ever so kind’ because he’d let this man into a post mortem when he was 15. This man’s mum had known Wayte and told him that her son had always wanted to see a post-mortem, so bang, he was in. Wayte was another bit of local talent who achieved notoriety many years ago when he announced in the national media – on the basis of no evidence at all – that ‘most’ cot deaths are those of children who’ve been murdered by their parents. The most enormous row followed as scores of bereaved parents appeared in the media telling this offensive old git to shut up. I note that one Avril Wayte sits along with dear old Dafydd Alun Jones on the Board of Trustees of CAIS. Knowing how rife nepotism is in the health and welfare sector of north Wales I presume that Avril is highly likely to be wife or daughter of Donald. I also heard of a first hand account from someone who was undergoing fertility investigations at Ysbyty Gwynedd in the mid-1990s. They had been booked in for a procedure that involves the injection of coloured dye into the Fallopian tubes in order to detect possible obstructions. When they walked into the ‘operating theatre’ for this procedure, among all the other staff present, they noticed what was very obviously a girl of about 13 or 14 sitting in the room positioned in such a way that they would have had a good view of this patient’s anatomy during this procedure. Not relishing the prospect of this, the patient asked this girl who she was. The girl helpfully revealed that she was ‘on work experience’ from one of the local schools. That’s right, a SCHOOLGIRL had been allowed in to Ysbyty Gwynedd to watch gynaecological procedures. Maybe we should be surprised that she wasn’t actually carrying out the procedures herself.

One of the obstetricians who had worked at St David’s and then at Bangor was a Mr Tivey-Jones. I heard a truly extraordinary story about Tivey-Jones in about 2000. I was friends with someone who ran a restaurant on Anglesey, who had become pregnant and was very anxious about a number of health issues. She was so anxious that she decided to ask if she could ‘go private’ under the illusion that she would receive a higher standard of care this way. She was booked in for an ante-natal appointment with this Tivey-Jones. When she went for the appointment she got a bit of a surprise. Although Tivey-Jones carried out the appropriate examinations and I think that she had some sort of scan too, he refused to speak to her. At all. The consultation, if it could be called that, was conducted in absolute silence, although my friend kept trying to ask questions. She ended up in tears and was still not spoken to. After this bizarre event, my friend asked the midwife what the hell was going on, only to be told ‘oh no, Mr Tivey-Jones won’t speak to you, he doesn’t like private patients’. He was however happy to book them in and take their money. I have never met this man, but imagine my surprise when I found a Daily Post article from October 2016, about a group of retired obstetricians and gynaecologists who were objecting to the proposed re-organisation of maternity services in north Wales, alleging that life and limb would be put at risk if services were downgraded at Ysbyty Gwynedd. One of those objecting was a Peter Tivey-Jones. Presumably he longs for the Good Old Days of the St David’s laundry where women were unlawfully denied abortions and were conned into encountering Dafydd for an ‘assessment’, where other women were illegally procuring abortions in desperation, where yet more women suffering miscarriages were treated punitively because they were wrongly suspected of procuring an abortion and where woman who did carry a pregnancy to term ran the risk of a dickwit of a doctor injuring their baby but would not be told if this had happened. And some women wouldn’t be told anything at all because Tivey-Jones refused to speak to them once he’d pocketed their money. And if your luck was really in, you’d encounter a school pupil among the team treating you.

Women seeking terminations of pregnancy on mental health grounds were not alone in encountering an unholy alliance between St David’s Hospital and Denbigh. I know of one woman from a village near Caernarfon who in the late 70s gave birth to a baby boy at St David’s. The baby was taken from her completely against her wishes and was adopted. She spent the rest of her life trying to trace him, but never succeeded. From what she told me, the process leading up to the abduction of this baby involved this woman being detained in Denbigh for a while in order to demonstrate how mad she was, then giving birth at St David’s some months later, where she was physically restrained by members of her family – who had cooked up the deal with Denbigh and St David’s – so that the baby could be forcibly removed from her. Was this woman a teenager when she gave birth, or unmarried perhaps and being subjected to the condemnation that had in an earlier era been dished out to women in these circumstances? No, she was a lady in her thirties who had left her husband and wanted a divorce. Her mother didn’t want her to leave her husband and her mother knew some of the staff at St David’s who offered a solution. This didn’t happen in the nineteenth century, it happened in Bangor in the late 1970s. Furthermore, everyone knew it – the lady in question remained a mental health patient on the books of the notorious Arfon Community Mental Health Team. She used to discuss the possibility of tracing her son with everyone that she knew -some  years later, she had another child, a daughter, who also ended up on the books of the Arfon Community Mental Health Team. This girl knew all about her stolen brother and she too used to talk about her wish to find him. A previous blog post, ‘Another Case of ‘Not Knowing’?’, provides details of a case in which a young female mental health patient at Ysbyty Gwynedd whom I befriended in the early 1990s was being sexually exploited by a group of junior doctors working in the obs and gynae dept of Ysbyty Gwynedd. She became pregnant twice and on each occasion the doctor responsible for the pregnancy arranged a termination – that she didn’t want – to be carried out by his colleagues. The mental health staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd were fully aware of the circumstances under which this young woman became pregnant.

So it wasn’t just in the mental health services that some very unsavoury things were happening. What is so interesting is how the people involved kept up such an audacious front, such as Dafydd attending meetings of religious congregations and lecturing them on the dangers of such things as cannabis and forgetting the Bible verses that one learnt as a child, as described in my blog post ‘A Serious Moral Collapse?’ Blogging about recent history in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology has brought back another memory. When a ruling in the Victoria Gillock case in the 1980s meant that for a short time it was a grey area as to whether GPs were allowed to prescribe the contraceptive pill for teenagers without informing their parents, I remember discussing the ruling with Dr DGE Wood, who was still my GP at that time. Well considering what you got up to over the following years Wood and the fact that I now have the evidence in my possession, I wouldn’t be surprised if you do end up in prison. Earlier today a follower of the blog e mailed me back after I told him that there is going to be a joint meeting of the Betsi Board and the CHC next week and that I would be attending. He suggested that someone should just book a coach, round the whole lot of them up and take them all straight over to Bala Wing in HMP Berwyn…
