The Compassion Centre

Readers will probably know that among the numerous other beneficial effects of Mindfulness claimed by its inventor, Dafydd’s former colleague Professor Mark Williams, is that it Increases Compassion. That is why the mental health workers who regularly practised Mindfulness, went on Mindfulness retreats and attended/spoke at conferences on Mindfulness facilitated a criminal trafficking gang, oversaw some of the highest rates of suicide in the UK, stood by while their clients became destitute, threatened their clients and perjured themselves in order to secure criminal convictions against their clients.

In recent years, Mark Williams et al have set out to demonstrate that Mindfulness Increases Compassion by the use of brain scans. I’m delighted to report that the research is going well and people have assured me that you can see the Compassion Centre of the brain ‘lighting up’ in those who practice Mindfulness.

The frontal lobe contains most of the dopamine-delicate neurons in the cerebral cortex. The dopamine system is associated with reward, attention, short-term memory tasks, planning, motivation and, in psychiatrists in north Wales and employees of Gwynedd and Clwyd Social Services, it contains the neurons responsible for people trafficking. Being the Vice Centre of the brain, the frontal lobe is commonly coloured red in textbooks:

Many readers will know that Mark Williams’s research fraud was so successful that he duped numerous politicians who had no knowledge of biomedical sciences at all and thus could be fed any old crap into robustly promoting Mindfulness on the grounds that it has the potential to transform society. Mindfulness was invented by Mark Williams while he lived and worked in Gwynedd, which had one of the highest suicide rates in the UK, one of the lowest mean annual average incomes, one of the poorest performing health services and a Social Services which abused and neglected the people whom it was paid to care for. Williams invented Mindfulness in the late 1980s. Gwynedd still has a high suicide rate, a very low mean average annual income and a non-functioning NHS and Social Services, so clearly it is a testament to the transformative powers of Mindfulness.

Chris Ruane, the Labour MP for the Vale of Clwyd, 1997-2015 and from 2017-present, really loves Mindfulness, he wants everyone to have a bit of it and led the Parliamentary Mindfulness charge. Chris’s constituency covers the areas of Denbigh and St Asaph/Bodelwyddan. The Denbigh area is still choc full with people who worked at Dafydd’s Denbigh Dungeon and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, a truly lethal hospital managed and staffed by associates of Dafydd et al, is located at Bodelwyddan. St Asaph Cathedral had a member of staff who molested kids for years and one of the organists at St Asaph Cathedral was the son of Geoff, the landlord of the Douglas Arms Hotel in Bethesda. Geoff was a Tory and a believer in law n order. Which will be why some of the police officers in north Wales boasted that they beat up local lads and threw them in Llyn Ogwen and when the victims of these violent assaults appeared in court charged with whatever they had been fitted up for, ‘we’d always be OK if Geoff was on the bench’. Some local men were found dead in Llyn Ogwen having ‘drowned while swimming when drunk’. See previous posts.

Chris Ruane doesn’t have any excuses for supporting Williams’s con, Ruane knows north Wales very well and has spent his entire life on the turf of Dafydd’s gang. Ruane attended Ysgol Mair Roman Catholic primary school in Rhyl. He then went to the Blessed Edward Jones RC High School (he was three years above Carol Vorderman). Blessed Ted’s ended up in very, very serious difficulties which culminated in the removal of the Headmaster in approx 2001 amidst a huge scandal; the school became a no-go area for teachers and pupils, people were fleeing while screaming loudly. Ruane graduated from Aberystwyth University in 1979, when that institution was staffed and managed by the paedophiles’ friends. Ruane then obtained an PGCE from Liverpool University in 1980. He was a town Councillor from 1988 and the Chairman of West Clwyd NUT region. Chris Ruane was a primary school teacher from 1982–97 and a Deputy Head from 1991–97.

Chris was elected as a Labour MP five months after the Waterhouse Inquiry opened.

Here’s Chris, he knows nuzzing…

Official portrait of Chris Ruane crop 2.jpg

Chris Ruane contested Clwyd North West in 1992, but was unsuccessful. So Chris was selected as a candidate when the Windbag was Leader of the Labour Party. The Windbag who knew Dafydd’s pal Dr Tony Francis, who was a great promoter of Mindfulness himself.

I am wondering if the effect of Mindfulness on the nation’s politicians is now beginning to manifest itself at last, because The Guardian Online is reporting that Lord Alf Dubs is to launch a cross-party ‘Compassion in Politics’ campaign. Lord Alf’s image is that of a kindly old buffer who has Special Insight into matters humanity because of his well-known status as a child from what was then Czechoslovakia who fled the Nazis. Alf was one of the mainly Jewish children saved by the English stockbroker Nicholas Winton and others on the Kindertransport (Dubs’s father was Jewish). Alf’s father had fled to England the day that the Nazis arrived in Czechoslovakia and young Alf was to meet him at Liverpool Street station. Alf later said that he clearly remembered leaving Prague station at age six and not touching the food pack given to him by his mother for the next two days. His mother was initially denied a visa but was able to join him and his father in London shortly afterwards.

Lord Alf’s True Story is now so well-known that I had forgotten how it first reached the ears of the world and indeed the ears of Alf himself. I refreshed my memory recently. Alf’s True Story was revealed by Esther Rantzen in Feb 1988 in an episode of ‘That’s Life’.

It was in late 1987 or very early in 1988 when I wrote to Esther Rantzen about Dafydd et al and provided her with details of the horrors of the North Wales Hospital Denbigh. Esther didn’t ring the gas board and neither did the young men with curly hair on her show. She didn’t even read out my letter and make any jokes about deformed root vegetables. Neither did Cyril compose an Odd Ode about Dafydd. Esther did not reply. Why did I write to Esther? Because she had launched a mental health campaign on ‘That’s Life’ and I thought that Esther ought to know what the mental health services in north Wales were actually doing to people.

After Esther launched her mental health campaign, David Scarboro, an actor in East Enders, killed himself in April 1988 and Esther put on her serious face for the TV cameras and maxed out on David’s death. David Scarboro had been treated very badly indeed by a section of the press with which Esther usually had a very chummy relationship. David played the part of ‘Mark Fowler’ and became upset when in 1985, the East Enders storyline dictated that ‘Mark Fowler’ should become a racist. Things came to a head when the script called for a scene in which ‘Mark’ was to deliver racist abuse. Scarboro refused to play the scene. After this it was decided that he should leave the show. His character was abruptly written out of the storyline.

In December 1985, Scarboro briefly returned to the series and subsequently for brief stints in 1986 and 1987, but never on a permanent or on-going basis. Scarboro’s last appearance in the series was in the episode aired on Christmas Day, 1987.

Elements of the UK tabloid press reported that Scarboro had been fired from the show for turning up late for filming and being unco-operative on set. Away from the series Scarboro initiated libel proceedings after several national papers published inaccurate stories about his private life, but the press continued to pursue him and his family. The ‘News of the Screws’ discovered that Scarboro was in a psychiatric unit, besieged it and published photographs of the unit. Scarboro subsequently left the unit because the unit could not protect his privacy and he could no longer get adequate treatment. Inaccurate stories about his condition were published, along with some very, very nasty headlines about the psycho David. David was known to have been distraught at the press coverage and at his inability to receive adequate care.

David died on 27 April 1988. His body was found at the bottom of Beachy Head and the coroner returned an open verdict, although David is always spoken of as having killed himself. A documentary on his life, ‘My Brother David’, was produced by the BBC in 1988, presented by David’s brother Simon. David’s parents left the country soon after their son’s death.

In 1988, Jimmy Savile’s sex offending was never mentioned in the media but in spite of all the We Didn’t Knows – including from Esther – a lot of people did know what Savile was doing.

Jimmy Savile: Esther Rantzen says she believes late TV ...

In 1988 I was told by two people who had been at Leeds University a few years previously that Savile was known to be sexually assaulting ‘young girls’. Two years later someone who’s dad knew Savile via Stoke Mandeville Hospital told me that everyone at Stoke Mandeville was of the opinion that Savile was a ‘twat’ and then in 2000 another person with Stoke Mandeville links told me that Savile was a bloody nightmare and that most of the money ‘raised’ by Savile was wasted on vanity projects, such as the Jimmy Savile Dining Room.

The tabloid press definitely knew what Savile was doing by 1988. They had been given stories but would not publish for fear of litigation.

In 1989, my friend who’s husband worked at the BBC told me that Esther was loathed, the most dreadful workplace bully, ruthless, completely insincere and that ChildLine was widely perceived to be a crude publicity stunt. In those days Esther was being seriously discussed as a potential future DG of the BBC. In 1986 Thatch had personally appointed Marmaduke Hussey as Chairman of the BBC Governors as a result of his close relationship to the Tory Party. Hussey had no previous experience of the BBC and was always seen as Thatcher’s henchman. His had followed a long career with Associated Newspapers, becoming MD; eventually Hussey became Chief Executive and MD of Times Newspapers, 1971-80. Hussey gave up several boardroom appointments when he took up his job at the BBC, but he remained Chairman of the Royal Marsden Hospital until 1998.

In 1988, the Royal Marsden Hospital, along with a number of other institutions, began perpetrating the cancer research fraud funded by the Cancer Research Campaign and Imperial Cancer Research Fund, which involved Dr Peter Macguire, a former colleague of Dr Tony Francis. The fraud became public in 1990 and resulted in the presumed suicide of one of those involved, Professor Tim McElwain of the Royal Marsden Hospital (see posts ‘Reports Of Death Were Greatly Exaggerated’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’). At the time, I was working for the Cancer Research Campaign myself, at the University of Surrey in a team led by Professor Vincent Marks, the brother of the then President of the BMA, Dr John Marks. John Marks and Ken Clarke were at each others throats at the time. It all ended in stalemate because everyone involved was concealing serious wrongdoing, including that of Dafydd et al, who were procuring children for sex, for, among others, Thatcher’s friend and the then Minister of State for Energy with responsibility for oil, Sir Peter Morrison. Unbeknown to me, when I was working for Vincent Marks, the BMA were providing Tony Francis, Dafydd et al with advice as to how to frame me for serious offences.

The Princess of Wales was Patron of the Royal Marsden Hospital and it was one of the beneficiaries of the publicity stunt in New York which involved Di flogging off some of her clothes in June 1997, not long before she died.

Duke Hussey’s wife, Lady Susan Hussey, is a Woman of the Bedchamber to Lilibet and godmother to Prince William. Sir Peter Morrison’s sister Dame Mary Morrison was also a Woman of the Bedchamber to Lilibet. Susan Hussey is the older sister of William Waldegrave, who in 1988 was a Minister in Thatch’s Gov’t and served as Secretary of State for Health, 1990-92.

Within three months of becoming Chairman of the BBC, Hussey had forced the DG Alasdair Milne to resign. Milne was replaced by someone more acceptable to Thatch, Michael Checkland.

See previous posts for the full background on Hussey and Checkland.

Jimmy Savile was a friend of Thatch’s and spent many weekends at Chequers with her. Savile was also a friend of Carlo’s.

Esther knew that if she wanted to reach stratospheric heights at the BBC she couldn’t afford to piss Jimmy Savile off. Or indeed Dafydd, who was part of the network which Savile was using to procure young people for sex with VIPs.

Alison Taylor wrote to Carlo in about 1988 telling him that kids in care in north Wales were being abused. She received a letter from Carlo’s office stating that he could not become involved. In 1988 Carlo was the Chancellor of UCNW, which was facilitating an arm of Dafydd’s trafficking gang. Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster and Carlo’s close friend, owned an estate in Cheshire which was one of the Duke’s main homes. Boys from Bryn Estyn were taken to the Duke’s estate for ‘work experience’ but refused to return again without explaining why.

Jimmy Savile was known to visit Bryn Estyn and one boy maintained that he was raped by a group of men while Savile watched.

In 1988, Savile was one of the senior managers of Broadmoor, along with his pal Alan Franey. Thatcher’s mate Baroness Trumpington aka Trumpers was the Health Minister who appointed Savile to the Broadmoor management task force (see posts ‘Socio-Political Context Of The North Wales Mental Health Services In The 1980s’ and ‘A Pretty Classy Piece Of Operation’).

At that time, Broadmoor was full of patients who had been abused as kids in care and by the mental health services. Some of those patients were from north Wales, including one person who was mentioned in the Waterhouse Report as having been abused while in care in north Wales. In the late 1980s, Di began making much publicised visits to Broadmoor and Rampton, although the nature of her meetings with the patients and which patients Di met, was kept completely secret for reasons of ‘patient confidentiality’, a la Di’s visits to AIDS wards, among whose patients were rent boys who had been forced into sex work when in care in north Wales (see eg. post ‘The Wretched Of The Earth’). I am all for patient confidentiality, I always felt that Savile’s much publicised visits to children’s wards complete with TV cameras were gross, but the reason for the ‘confidentiality’ at the secure hospitals and the AIDS wards was because many of the patients were the victims of serious crime. The information black-out was to protect the high profile people who had offended against them.

Jimmy Savile also wandered at will at Ashworth Hospital. Ashworth Hospital was part of Dafydd’s domain, was run by Dafydd’s friends and had a dreadful reputation, easily as bad as Broadmoor. See eg. post ‘Security, Security’. One patient was battered to death by the staff at Ashworth – the murder was investigated by Dafydd’s mate and umbrella Professor Robert Bluglass. There were two major inquiries at Ashworth and although it was admitted that the prevailing situation there was horrific, the problems were blamed on Dangerous Mental Patients, not the fact that the institution was run by a trafficking ring and that many of the inmates were victims of that ring.

Esther’s sister Priscilla was a social worker for Lambeth Borough Council. Lambeth had a massive problem with their children’s homes being infiltrated by paedophiles and kids in the care of Lambeth were sent to children’s homes in north Wales, where they were abused and then trafficked back down to London or Brighton. Priscilla’s boss was Valerie – now Baroness – Howarth, whom Esther appointed as CEO of ChildLine. ChildLine ignored phone calls from children in north Wales. One woman also maintains that she told Esther that Savile was abusing children. Esther claims to have no memory of this.

Savile and Esther were involved with the NSPCC. The Duke of Westminster was the Life Vice-President of the NSPCC from 1988 until his death in 2016. Here’s Jimmy with another supporter of the NSPCC:

  • Jimmy Savile sought Margaret Thatcher Stoke Mandeville ...

In north Wales, when the former kids in care were giving evidence regarding the abuse that they had experienced previously, support for them was offered via a Helpline run by the NSPCC, although the witnesses were by then adults. The managers of the NSPCC Helpline were the social workers who had facilitated the trafficking gang. One man who was rash enough to accept support from the NSPCC Helpline was found dead. The Helpline managers reassured themselves that they were covered by their insurance for such an eventually. Not only was the NSPCC Helpline run by the traffickers, but the North Wales Police were given the job of driving the witnesses to the venue where they gave evidence. The North Wales Police who had for years ignored all complaints about the abuse of kids in care and who had arrested the kids themselves if they persisted in complaining and who employed a number of officers who were abusing the kids.

I read the other day that Childline was set up after a conversation between Esther and Michael Grade in 1985. In the account that I read, it was claimed that Michael Grade had put the idea to Esther. In the summer of 1985, my friend worked in the box office at the Edinburgh Fringe. She ended up in hot water with her bosses when she refused to pull strings after Samuel Brittan, a journo with the FT and the brother of Leon Brittan, the then Home Secretary, demanded that she arrange tickets and accommodation for him to visit the Fringe, although everything had sold out weeks ago. Samuel was so irate that he wrote to his Big Mate Michael Grade, who wrote a wonderful letter to Samuel, telling him that he was ‘appalled’ at my friend’s ‘rudeness’ and that Grade would definitely get Samuel tickets ‘even if I have to give you my own’.

You SHALL go to the ball Samuel!

When Leon Brittan was Home Secretary, he was handed a dossier compiled by the Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens which named a number of people, including Westminster figures, who were alleged to be abusing children. Brittan later claimed that he couldn’t remember receiving the dossier. Then Brittan did remember receiving it but couldn’t remember where he had put the dossier. Leon Brittan has been named as one Westminster figure who was possibly children himself. While Brittan was Home Secretary, numerous files relating to organised child abuse went missing from the Home Office. Meanwhile, the criminal activities of Dafydd et al continued unhindered in north Wales. See previous posts.

The friend of mine who so angered Samuel Brittan was my best friend from school, who knew what had been happening to me in north Wales. Her mum was a clinical psychologist and her dad was a social worker and they had advised me after Francis began threatening me in the spring of 1985. My friend’s family lived in Somerset, just down the road from my family and Brown’s family. I now know that I and my friends were under surveillance by the security services by then.

I have mentioned in previous posts that members of my family knew/were known by Somerset MPs Tom King, John Biffen and Edward du Cann (see previous posts). King and Biffen were members of Thatcher’s Cabinet and Peter Morrison was a Minister, 1983-85, under Tom King, when King was Secretary of State for Employment. Other west country MPs who knew people who knew relatives of mine were the Tory Jerry Wiggin and Liberals Paddy Ashdown and John Pardoe (see previous posts).

William Waldegrave’s family seat was and still is at Chewton Mendip in Somerset. Previous posts (eg ‘Those Who Are Ready To Serve’ and ‘Upper Class Twit Of The Year – Shooting Themselves’) describe how some people in Somerset who knew what had happened to me in north Wales but who did not support me did very well for themselves in terms of career progress and money throughout the late 1980s and the 1990s. One such person received a cheque from Coutts. William Waldegrave was a senior person at Coutts.

Dafydd’s partner-in-crime Dr D.G.E. Wood was from a medical family near Bristol. Over towards the Waldegraves’ neck of the Woods…

My friend who had the dust-up with Samuel Brittan in 1985 was driven out of her job at the Royal Television Society in 1991, just after I was forced out of my job at St George’s Hospital Medical School, after she wanted to make a film about north Wales. Her husband worked in the Drama Commissioning Dept of the BBC and was forced out of his job after his boss yelled at him that he’d make sure that he’d ‘never work in this town again’ when my friend’s husband refused to accept a bribe at work. Weeks later he was transferred to the Religious Broadcasting Unit at Manchester and was soon after made redundant.

The troubles of my two media friends escalated after the summer of 1985 when they moved to London to begin their media careers. They were gradually frozen out by most of their former friends from Stirling University – they had all been part of the circle which included Jack, later Lord, McConnell, who was elected as an MSP in 1999, just before the publication of the Waterhouse Report and then bugger me found himself Scotland’s FM in 2001 (see previous posts) – and they subsequently came under attack from gangsters (see post ‘The Turn Of The Screw’).

Lord Jack’s mate:

In the summer of 1987, I went to see Leicester MIND as well as William Bingley, the Legal Director of MIND at MIND HQ in London and told them what I had witnessed and found out about Dafydd et al. I had no idea that not only was Dafydd involved in MIND himself, but that the organisation had been concealing his wrongdoing as far back as the 1960s. I presume that Bingley rang Dafydd and a few other people as soon as I left his office.

Readers might remember the Radio 4 light entertainment programme ‘Loose Ends’ when Ned Sherrin hosted it during the 1980s. It starred Carol Thatcher and although everybody on ‘Loose Ends’ did their ‘we’re not afraid to push the boundaries’ bit, Thatch had the BBC firmly under her thumb at the time. Emma Freud was also a regular on ‘Loose Ends’ and a ‘Loose Ends’ book published in 1988 describes Emma as being ‘the posh bird who giggles in the background’. Which was indeed all that Emma did on ‘Loose Ends’. But her dad was Radio 4 favourite/Liberal MP Clement Freud… Who has since been unmasked as a sexual predator, including towards underaged girls. Clement’s son was PR guru Matthew Freud. See previous posts. Gee, why ever didn’t we hear about Clement’s sexual assaults on teenagers then Matthew?? Emma Freud is married to Richard Curtis, who, with Ben Elton, wrote ‘Blackadder’. Ben Elton’s dad Lewis Elton was a Prof at Surrey University when I worked there in 1988 (see previous posts for details of Ben, his dad and others in their network). Emma and Richard were very conveniently living in New York during the year that Clement’s lecherous ways made headline news. They were off just before the story broke and then back again after the dust had settled.

Victor Lewis Smith, the film, TV and radio producer, had a regular spot on ‘Loose Ends’ from 1986. Victor Lewis Smith also worked on ‘That’s Life’. Lewis Smith is a York University graduate who presented his own programme on Radio York before joining Radio 4. Yorkshire: Savile ruled the region. Lewis Smith has written for ‘Time Out’, ‘Private Eye’, ‘Mail On Sunday’, ‘Esquire’, ‘Daily Mirror’, ‘The Independent’, ‘Harpers and Queen’ and ‘The Guardian’.

Stephen Fry was a regular on ‘Loose Ends’ in the 1980s. The Stephen Fry of ‘I took cocaine in Buck House, aren’t I naughty’ and ‘I’m friends with Prince Charles as well’ fame; the Stephen Fry who was/is a Labour Luvvie and is President of MIND. Fry rather blotted his copy book with supporters of MIND when he sent out a rude tweet about the self-pity of someone who was Sharing re their experience of sexual abuse. Shortly after the furore, Fry tweeted that his earlier tweet didn’t express his views; although it obviously had 20 mins previously. I don’t know why anyone was surprised that Stephen wasn’t as cuddly and fluffy as they presumed; Fry was born into a fair degree of privilege but believes that it had no effect at all on his later achievements and quips that of course public school didn’t help him, he was expelled from several but still ended up at Cambridge after serving a prison sentence. That is indeed true Stephen, but the difference between you and the people with whom I was banged up in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, was that they were not guilty of the crimes for which they went to prison and no-one gave them a second chance yet alone a place at Cambridge when they came out of jail. Not that they all did come out, quite a few were found dead in prison.

Stephen Fry used to joke that prison wasn’t so bad, he wasn’t raped in the showers by Mr Big. Had Stephen been a kid in care in north Wales rather than the son of a Gov’t scientist, he’d have been raped repeatedly before he ever got as far as prison. And Carlo would not have invited him to Royal premises where Fry could enjoy a few snorts, any plea from Stephen to Carlo for help would have resulted in a letter from Carlo’s office saying that he could not get involved.

Stephen Fry famously made TV programmes about being a manic depressive to enlighten everybody else on the matter. Which seriously pissed off a few manic depressives known to me; they all had the same response: ‘he’s in fucking private clinics in America, just look at what is happening to us..’.

I don’t blame Stephen Fry one bit for not checking into Denbigh or the Hergest Unit, but he didn’t do people with serious mental illness any favours with his Public Information Broadcasts. More of a PR job for the Top Docs really wasn’t it Stephen?

I was amused to find that not long after I blogged about the messy reality of the Top Docs ‘diagnoses’ and ‘cures’ for prostate cancer, Stephen sent out a tweet explaining that he had recently had prostate cancer, his prostate had been removed and how grateful he was to the Top Docs for Saving His Life. Stephen Fry has had a good classical education but he knows bugger all about cancer research and the prevailing practices in that field. However he is intelligent enough to know that he cannot ever know whether the Top Docs did save his life or not, because there is not an identical Stephen Fry who did not have his prostate removed to use as a control. So Stephen is now doubly incontinent and impotent, which if it did save his life was worth it; but he does not know whether his life was saved or not. But I know that the PSA tests are throwing up a lot of false positives…

My friends who’s media careers were ruined used to meet Stephen Fry and Ben Elton at various events!

Jonathan Ross also starred in ‘Loose Ends’ in the late 1980s. The Jonathan who was always an offensive twat but who somehow got away with it for years until he and Russell Brand rang up Andrew Sachs and boasted about Brand shagging Sachs’s granddaughter. There was much shock-horror re the upsetting of a national treasure and a granddad, which eclipsed the rather more unedifying spectacle of Brand bragging about whom he had sex with, when the woman concerned probably just wanted to forget all about the toe rag. Woss and Brand were middle aged men, not 15 years old, so I can’t work out why they were ever received in polite company again.

As for Ned Sherrin; er, where shall I start? Originally a barrister, smug, narcisstic and openly gay even back in the days of ‘That Was The Week That Was’ and David Frost etc. So Ned knew all of the Footlights/BBC 1960s crowd, all of whom knew about the Westminster Paedophile Ring, Jimmy Savile etc. Some of them, like Jonathan Miller and Graham Chapman, knew about north Wales too…See previous posts.

Ned was the John Biffen of the BBC; the clever son of Somerset farmers who made it big. Like Biffen’s family, I think that Ned’s family were impressed by him even if they privately raised eye-brows. They were fairly mainstream Somerset farmers of their generation, so they must have been a little surprised at Ned’s activities.

Ned went to Sexey’s School at Bruton; yes it was really called that. When I was a teenager, the other schools in Somerset used to play Sexey’s School at team sports, Sexey’s seemed to take team games quite seriously.

I might return to ‘Loose Ends’ in a future post, I am still digging…

So this was the context in which Alf Dubs’s Amazing True Story was revealed and subsequently broadcast by Esther in February 1988. How did Esther get hold of Lord Alf’s True Story? Amazingly enough, that possessor of a big heart Robert Maxwell was the conduit.

It is often reported that Nicholas Winton, Lord Alf’s saviour, ‘suppressed’ his humanitarian exploits for many years. However, Winton mentioned them in his election material while unsuccessfully standing for election to the Maidenhead Town Council in 1954.

Yet Winton’s rescue achievements ‘went unnoticed for half a century, until in 1988 his wife found a detailed scrapbook in their attic, containing lists of the children, including their parents’ names and the names and addresses of the families that took them in. She gave the scrapbook to Elisabeth Maxwell, a Holocaust researcher and wife of media magnate Robert Maxwell…

Mrs Winton handed that scrapbook over to Cap’n Bob’s wife just like that…

Benny Hill | 100 funny jokes by 100 comedians - Comedy

Winton himself could not remember the reason why this was done. Letters were sent to each of these known addresses and 80 of “Winton’s children” were found in Britain.’

One of whom was Alf!

In February 1988, Alf was invited as a member of the audience to ‘That’s Life’. At one point, Nicholas Winton’s scrapbook was shown and his achievements were explained. Esther asked whether anybody in the audience owed their lives to Winton, and if so, to stand – more than two dozen people surrounding Winton rose and applauded. Well fancy them all turning up like that! But would anyone have actually known if they really all had been saved by Winton? I bet that Esther didn’t take the microphone around to each and every one of them. The BBC were always fiddling figures and rigging situations, those standing up could have been anyone. Furthermore, Alf himself didn’t know that he’d been rescued by Winton until Esther told him…

Although a stockbroker, Winton was also ‘an ardent socialist who became close to Labour Party luminaries Nye Bevan, Jennie Lee and Tom Driberg’. Tom Driberg was a controversial figure in the Labour Party, being a bisexual communist with criminal connections. It was later revealed that Driberg had been working for the security services.

Alf Dubbs served as the Labour MP for Battersea South, 1979-83 and then Battersea, 1983-87. In 1988, when Alf’s True Story received all that heart melting coverage, the Windbag was the Leader of the Labour Party. The Windbag who knew Tony Francis and who was married to Glenys, the school teacher from Holyhead. Glenys’s parents had been Labour Party activists and were good mates with Lord Cledwyn, who in his capacity as the MP for Anglesey and Secretary of State for Wales, 1966-68, as well as a member of the Lords, for decades played a major role in concealing the crimes of Gwynne the lobotomist and Dafydd et al (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’). Lord Cledwyn, along with Harold Wilson, Jim Callaghan, the Windbags and the rest of the Labour Party, also concealed the sex offending of George Thomas aka Viscount Tonypandy, who despite being a Labour politician, was a mate of Thatch and a big fan of the Royals.

In Dec 1987, Alison Taylor had been sacked by Gwynedd County Council. She had written to Thatch in Jan 1987 about the abuse of kids in care in north Wales and on Feb 28 1988 Alison wrote to Tony Newton, the then Health Minister.  Alison had also reported abuse to the North Wales Police, only to be told that she lacked credibility and was ‘manipulating’ children into making complaints. By Feb 1988, Mary had won her case against Dafydd et al, but they were refusing to pay her the damages that had been agreed.

By Feb 1988, my official complaint against Tony Francis, Gwynedd Social Services, Dafydd et al was lodged with the NHS and was the responsibility of the Medical Ombudsman in the Welsh Office, Professor Robert Owen. Who was one of Dafydd’s mates from the Liverpool branch of Dafydd’s empire. Robert Owen was the Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Liverpool and also worked as a consultant at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital (see post ‘In Memoriam – Professor Robert Owen’). While my complaint was supposedly being handled, the crooked lawyer from the Welsh Office, Andrew Park, was busy advising Dafydd et al on fitting me up…

By Feb 1988, the shit was hitting the fan in Cleveland in the form of the child abuse scandal there, which was the result of the gang operating in the north east of England with direct links to Dafydd et al in north Wales. Lord Justice Elizabeth Butler-Sloss was employed to Chair the whitewash for that matter. See post ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas And The Culprits Were Named’. Butler-Sloss was the sister of Michael Havers, who as Attorney General under Thatcher had blocked the prosecution of a number of well-connected paedophiles, including the diplomat and MI6 officer, Sir Peter Hayman.

Alf Dubs’s constituency of Battersea fell within Wandsworth Borough Council. Wandsworth Council, along with the staff of St George’s Hospital Medical School and Springfield Hospital, were facilitating a big paedophile ring which operated in south London (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’). My documents show that there was a direct link between Wandsworth Social Services and Lucille Hughes of Gwynedd Social Services, Tony Francis and Dafydd. There were also direct links between St George’s/Springfield and Tony Francis and Dafydd. Donald Naismith, the Director of Education for Wandsworth, was known to be an active paedophile who was abusing kids in care. See previous posts.

St George’s Hospital had a close historical link with the Duke of Westminster. The Duke’s ancestors had donated the money and land which had led to the establishment of the original St George’s at Hyde Park Corner, Knightsbridge. When St George’s relocated to their new building in Tooting Broadway in 1980, the Duke demanded of Thatch that the Hyde Park Corner building – worth a great deal of money – should be returned to him, although it belonged to the Dept of Heath. The Duke was allowed to buy the building back for £6k… See previous posts.

In 1988, the year that Alf’s True Story took the world by storm, Professor Sir William Asscher, who as a Top Doctor in Cardiff for many years concealed organised abuse right across Wales, was appointed Dean of St George’s. When in Wales, Asscher had concealed George Thomas’s offending and the crimes of Dafydd et al. The previous Dean of St George’s had been deposed after Oliver Brooke, the Prof of Paediatrics at St George’s, was imprisoned in 1986 for the possession of child porn. Ollie was a big player in a pan-European paedophile ring. Asscher spent the next eight years concealing the rest of the ring at St George’s/Springfield/Wandsworth, on Alf’s doorstep.

William Asscher’s first name was Adolf but he preferred not to use it. Asscher’s family were Dutch Jews who were deported to Westerbork transit camp, where Asscher’s mother secured their release in 1943 by fabricating claims to be of English descent. The family then came to Britain. See previous posts.

Adolf Asscher was just two years younger than Alf Dubbs.

In 1988, matters regarding the paedophile ring in the Leicestershire area were beginning to gather steam. Investigations were beginning after complaints about, among others, Greville Janner, one of Dubs’s fellow Labour MPs. Janner was a barrister, also Jewish and a leading light in the Jewish community. Janner’s father, Barnett Janner, had held Janner’s Leicester seat before him. Barnett Janner was also a lawyer and leader in the Jewish community who had moved to Leicester from Cardiff when Barnett was younger and in search of a seat.

In the autumn of 1987, Dr James Earp of the Towers Hospital, Leicester, concealed the crimes of Dafydd et al in north Wales. See previous posts.

One high profile lawyer in south Wales in 1988 was Leo Abse, a Jewish lawyer who until June 1987 had been the Labour MP for Torfaen. Abse was a crook and a close friend of George Thomas. Abse admitted threatening and paying people off in order to protect George Thomas (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’). Leo Abse’s brother Danny was a poet and worked as a Top Doctor in south Wales. The Abse family all had a keen interest in psychoanalysis. See previous posts.

It was Leo Abse who, virtually single-handedly, was responsible for the Children Act 1975, which resulted in hundreds of kids in care being sent to north Wales (see post ‘Cry, The Beloved Country’). Abse twisted the arms of Jim Callaghan and Dr Death in order to help him achieve this aim. Jim Callaghan had known Glenys Kinnock’s parents as long ago as when Glenys was a schoolgirl in Holyhead. Dr Death personally knew some of the Top Docs in north Wales who were facilitating Dafydd’s gang (see posts ‘Dr Death’ and We’ve Been Expecting You…’). Audrey Callaghan was in on the dinners where Leo Abse persuaded Jim Callaghan to support a rewriting of the legislation with regard to the welfare of children. Audrey had colluded with child abuse when she had sat on the London County Council. In 1969, Audrey Callaghan became the Chair of the Board of Governors of Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Savile dropped in on the kiddies trapped in their hospital beds whenever he felt like it. Audrey continued raising funds for GOSH for the next thirty years. The Princess of Wales was President of GOSH from 1989 and Di was involved with the fund-raising efforts of GOSH.

Leo Abse has been investigated for historical sex offences.

Jim Callaghan hated George Thomas but concealed his activities because Thomas was such a big vote puller in south Wales.  George Thomas was an enthusiastic supporter of medical charidees and also did much for the University Hospital in Cardiff, which was where William Asscher worked. Now which south Wales big wigs with feet in Cardiff and London and interests in medical charidees could have possibly been instrumental in the relocation of William Asscher to St George’s when the wheels very nearly came off the bandwagon after Ollie was jailed??

Here’s a smug old bastard who ensured that no-one would vote Labour for a very long time:

Leo Abse had supporters in the form of the Windbags. The Windbags were quoted in the press as having said of Leo Abse that ‘Leo was courageous, highly principled, very funny and totally unique.’ Leo was also very unpleasant.

The Windbags were friends with Claire Rayner, an Angel who by the 1980s was a regular on the BBC and in the tabloids. Rayner knew about organised abuse of children and vulnerable people at the hands of health and welfare professionals, she knew about Jimmy Savile and remained silent about all of it throughout her entire life (see post ‘The Wretched Of The Earth’). Claire Rayner is a good friend of Helena Kennedy QC.

Helena was a leading light in WISH (Women In Special Hospitals) which was established in the mid-1980s to support female patients in Broadmoor, Ashworth and Rampton. Helena knew that scores of women in those institutions were there for no other reason than that they repeatedly self-harmed or tried to kill themselves as a result of the abuse that they had suffered as kids in care or in the mental health system. Helena said nothing about this and she said nothing about Savile’s offending in Broadmoor either, although two female patients there killed themselves because of Savile’s assaults on them. See post ‘Close Your Eyes And Make A WISH’. For years, Helena worked closely with Professor Nigel Eastman of St George’s/Springfield Hospital (see post ‘Eve Was Framed – As Were A Lot Of Other People’), who was one of those concealing the trafficking ring in south London and who also colluded with Dafydd et al in north Wales (see previous posts).

The Windbag is Wales Patron of the Helena Kennedy Foundation.

Helena Kennedy worked with Claire Rayner on the panel which provided the advice re medical services in HMP Holloway in 1999, when there were great numbers of seriously distressed women in Holloway. The advice provided by Rayner and St Helena was to transfer the women to secure hospitals – where many of them had previously been abused…

The Holloway ‘initiative’ involving Rayner and Kennedy was announced on the day that Miranda’s Prisons Minister Paul Boateng visited Holloway. It was the Windbag who made Paul Boateng a junior Treasury spokesman in 1989.

As a young barrister, Helena Kennedy worked in Took’s Court, Michael Mansfield’s chambers. Mansfield lived in Wandsworth. Mansfield knew what was happening in north Wales and did not respond to it, even when I wrote to him in 1993. Mansfield had handled the trials of some of the men who rioted at Risley Remand Centre in 1989. Mansfield knew that the medical wing at Risley was full of kids in care from north Wales and Dafydd’s patients (see post ‘Include Me Out’). Mansfield didn’t represent them or ever talk about their plight.

Helena Kennedy was President of the National Children’s Bureau (NCB), with which the paedophile social work academic Peter Righton was involved. Righton was employed by Keele University; Mansfield is a Keele graduate.

After discovering his own True Story, Alf Dubs campaigned for Nicholas Winton to be honoured. Winton was knighted in 2002.

Dubs was educated at Cheadle Hulme School, which is in Greater Manchester, near to the wealthy parts of Cheshire eg. Wilmslow, Altrincham. Many of the professional people who concealed Dafydd’s gang which operated in north Wales/Cheshire lived in the Wilmslow/Altrincham area. Dubs studied at the LSE, an institution which educated numerous people who were either involved in the abuse in north Wales/Cheshire or who concealed it. Dubs worked as a local government officer before entering politics. The local government officers trade unions NUPE and NALGO – which merged to form UNISON – contained many people who had been involved with the abuse of children in care. Not only did NUPE and NALGO provide full protection to their members who had abused children, but in some cases – including in north Wales/Cheshire – it was the union reps who had abused the kids. Jeremy Corbyn worked for NUPE before he became an MP and Alun Michael, whom Miranda imposed upon Wales as First Secretary/FM – Michael is another Keele University graduate – also had a deep and meaningful relationship with NUPE.

Dubs lost his Commons seat at the General Election of 1987. From 1988 to 1995, Dubs was Director of the Refugee Council. In 1994, he became a Labour peer. On 9 June 1994, Matt Arnold, the Head of Bryn Estyn, died of an ‘unspecified blood disease’. On 13 June 1994, the trial of Arnold’s friend and colleague at Bryn Estyn, Peter Howarth, for sexually abusing boys in care began. John Smith, the Leader of the Labour Party, had died on 12 May 1994 after Bart’s hospital had been unable to revive him following a heart attack. On 8 July 1994, Peter Howarth was found guilty of child sexual abuse and sentenced to ten years in prison. Miranda became Leader of the Labour Party on 21 July 1994.

Before becoming an MP, Miranda had been a pupil barrister of George Carman QC, the crooked, much-feared barrister who was retained by Jimmy Savile. Cherie worked in Carman’s Chambers until 1988. Before Carman relocated to London after he acted for Jeremy Thorpe at the Old Bailey in 1979, Carman worked in Chambers in Manchester and lived in Cheshire, on Lord Alf Dubs’ old stomping ground. It was the presence of Killer Carman in particular on the planet that caused so many people to feel that they could not print a word about Savile or indeed the rest of the crew, including Dafydd. When Gillian Taylforth, the East Enders actress, sued ‘The Sun’ for libel in Jan 1994, Carman caused her so much distress that Taylforth collapsed in court. The scene was treated as one huge entertaining spectacle. Taylforth lost the case and it cost her a fortune. The Presiding judge was Justice Drake, who had presided over the Dec 1994 trial which resulted when the former North Wales Police senior officer Gordon Anglesea sued ‘Private Eye’ and others for libel after they had published allegations that Anglesea had sexually abused boys in care in north Wales. Anglesea won nearly £400k damages. George Carman QC represented ‘Private Eye’ et al and I believe deliberately threw the case (see posts ‘Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Byd’ and ‘Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Byd – A Few Additional Comments’). Shortly after the trial, one of the witnesses, Mark Humphreys, was found dead.

In 2016 Gordon Anglesea was convicted of the historical abuse of boys in care in north Wales and was imprisoned.

George Carman provided legal advice to a number of newspapers, including, for quite some time, to the Mirror. Which employed Miranda’s PR man Alastair Campbell, who doubles up as a MIND ambassador.

For years, people told me repeatedly that if I tried to take on Dafydd et al in court or ever published a word about them, they would produce George Carman QC and I’d be eaten for breakfast. Now I am sure that was true. But I’d like to make the point that the only reason why, after 1987-88, that Carman or someone like him could have devoured me was that by then, Dafydd et al had been allowed to lie and lie and lie – and document those lies as fact and send them to third parties – about me, as well as about my friends who knew what Dafydd et al had done and it would have been those lies that Carman would have relied upon to discredit us. When I first raised concerns about those we know and love, I, Brown, my two media friends and two other academic friends would have made excellent witnesses. We did not have criminal records, we were not alcoholics or addicts and none of us had been involved in sex work, porn etc. None of us had any of the characteristics that were used to discredit every other witness. Furthermore, my medical records were full of written admissions by Dafydd himself, as well as his colleagues, that the most serious crimes had been committed by them. Those documents were unlawfully witheld from me for decades; because the contents would have been enough to put a few people in prison.

The only reason why no-one could find ANYONE considered credible to give evidence against Dafydd et al was that every witness had been systematically trashed, unlawfully, by the forces of the state. I have mentioned many times previously on this blog that I have been made aware that EVERYTHING, from the day that I arrived at UCNW, was recorded by the security services because the whole place was bugged, probably because of the IRA and Welsh activism in UCNW, but also because of the fall-out from Mary Wynch’s case. No-one bugged UCNW – and later St George’s – to protect us. The info gained was used to protect Dafydd et al.

What use is it if MI5 record a gang of people traffickers threatening and intimidating a student who has complained about them and forging documents about her if they do not put a stop to it? What did they think they were doing when they recorded me telling my tutor and Dr D.G.E. Wood that Brown was receiving murder threats, knowing that the idiots Bell and Wood ignored me? The security services, over a period of years, recorded a murdering criminal gang at work. They did not stop them and they did not warn their targets/victims. That is why Killer Carman could put the fear of God into honest witnesses; he knew they all been fitted up and smeared and if anyone challenged him the crooked old bastard would just order a load of lies from members of the gang employed as professional people. Medical records were always an occasion for a party on behalf of the likes of Carman and they’d have had a ball with mine. They were substantially untrue and Carman would have known that, but no-one would have given a stuff.

Carman had such a serious alcohol problem that he employed his own personal Top Doc, who on one occasion set up an intravenous drip when Carman collapsed from alcohol poisoning in court. I bet that none of the ‘not credible’ witnesses to Dafydd et al have ever collapsed in court from alcohol poisoning. I can imagine what would have been said if they did.

Alastair Campbell was for a time as drunk as George Carman. Does that make Alastair someone who is Telling Lies About Top Doctors? No, it makes Alastair a MIND ambassador and the PM’s Press Officer.

It is not true that there was no evidence of a VIP paedophile gang in north Wales/Cheshire, there was mountains of evidence. The full forces of the British state were used to ensure that none of that evidence ever saw the light of day.

As for events in 1994, my documentation shows that while Matt Arnold was dying and Peter Howarth was standing trial and Miranda was busying himself becoming Leader of the Labour Party, those we know and love were carefully planning – yet again – my incarceration in a secure hospital. The plan swung into action after I and another patient had a meeting with two members of the Mental Health Act Commission and told them that Dafydd was sexually exploiting patients and that serious complaints were not being investigated. We were told by the members of the Commission, in front of nursing officer Jeff Crowther, that they had heard such complaints about Dafydd ‘all before’. Our complaints were never investigated, by the Commission or anyone else. At the time, William Bingley was Chief Exec of the Commission. After we made those complaints, Dafydd et al staged the throwing of a brick through his glass door in the early hours of the morning and claimed that I had done it. On the basis of no evidence at all linking me with this crime which had been staged anyway, details of this were given to the High Court in Liverpool to demonstrate what a danger to Dafydd I was. See posts ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ and ‘The Banality Of Evil’.

That brick has now become part of my ‘history’. Ooh she threw a brick through Dafydd’s door. Er – no, we’ve agreed that she didn’t. But we’ve recorded it all anyway and sworn it in an affidavit to Liverpool High Court. So we know that it happened!

In 1994, the Jillings investigation into the abuse of children in the care of Clwyd County Council since 1974 was underway. The Jillings Report was published in 1996 and concluded that the abuse had been horrific and that the organised abuse of children in north Wales had stretched back way before 1974, probably as far back as the 1940s. Not that anyone but Clwyd County Council’s own insurers and lawyers ever read the Jillings Report. On the advice of Michael Beloff QC, the legal adviser to Municipal Mutual, Clwyd County Council’s insurers – Municipal Mutual also insured the North Wales Police – the report was witheld from everyone, including Clwyd’s own Councillors and subsequently pulped. See post ‘It’s A Piece Of Cake…’.

Michael Beloff QC was and is a friend and colleague of Cherie and Beloff was a visitor to Chequers when Miranda became PM. Michael’s dad Lord Max Beloff was a pal of Ioan Bowen Rees, the Chief Exec of Gwynedd County Council who oversaw the abuse of kids in the care of Gwynedd. Lord Max was also involved with Thatcher’s fave university, the private University of Buckingham, of which Thatch served as Chancellor. See previous posts.

To return to Lord Alf, the hero of this story. He was given a peerage – in 1994! – and served as a junior Minister in the N Ireland Office, May 1997-Dec 1999, under Secretary of State Mo Mowlam. Who had spent her career in the north east of England, who knew about the trafficking gang up there which had direct links to Dafydd et al in north Wales and who as N Ireland Secretary knew all about the VIP paedophile at Kincora Boys’ Home, which was linked to the other gangs on mainland Britain. Lord Alf would have known about Kincora as well. Mo’s Top Doctor also assisted in the lies about Mo’s health when she developed a brain tumour. Mo was in a ropey state for a long time and it affected her performance when she was in the N Ireland office; this was known but concealed.

While Alf Dubs was still in the Commons, Labour supporting comedian John O’Farrell worked in Dubs’s office and was a Labour activist in Battersea. In his book, Things Can Only Get Better, O’Farrell described the events leading up to Dubs’s shock defeat by the Conservative John Bowis at the 1987 General Election. In 1986, my two friends who were sacked from the Royal Television Society and the BBC in the early 1990s shared a flat in Bethnal Green with some other Stirling University graduates, one of whom was a woman called Julia, who was then John O’Farrell’s girlfriend. Julia was very hostile to me when I shared the flat with them all for a short while in the autumn of 1986 and her ‘bad vibes’ as my friends described the situation continued towards my friends after I had moved out…

I remember it well, Julia sitting there glowering at us without explanation for hours on end. Never mind Julia, your ex did really well out of it, even if I and my two friends ended up with gangsters after us! O’Farrell wrote jokes for Gordon Brown and other New Labour big wigs…

Why did the Leftie cross the road? Er – some gangsters running a VIP trafficking ring were after his girlfriends’ flatmates and the Labour Party were too fucking spineless to speak up…

O’Farrell successfully campaigned for a new state secondary school to be opened in Lambeth – the Lambeth Academy – and became the Chair of Governors from its opening in 2004 until 2012.

Alf served on an Area Health Authority and more recently on a Mental Health Trust. I haven’t found out which ones, but ooh I can make a few guesses. Dubs was Chair of the Broadcasting Standards Commission until December 2003 and had previously been Deputy Chair of the Independent Television Commission. He is a Trustee of the Open University Foundation.

In the past, Dubs has been a local councillor, Chair of the Fabian Society, Chair of Liberty, a Trustee of Action Aid, a Trustee of the Immigration Advisory Service and of a number of other voluntary organisations.

Three patients at the Hergest Unit who were witness to the serious wrongdoing of Dafydd et al were involved with Action Aid.

In it’s previous incarnation, Liberty was the NCCL and there was much embarrassment when all that business of the NCCL supporting paedophiles’ rights in the 1970s appeared in the press some four years ago. Paul Boateng and Helena Kennedy were both leading lights in the NCCL.

Dubs is a Patron of Humanists UK, formerly known as the British Humanist Association. Claire Rayner served as both Vice-President and President of the British Humanist Association and many other paedophiles’ friends have been involved with the BHA (see previous posts).

In the Lords, Dubs has spoken on varied subjects including the National Probation Service and road safety. Dubs was Chair of the Road Safety Foundation. In north Wales, the Probation Service was involved with the organised abuse of children and vulnerable people.

Dubs lists his main home as a cottage in the Lake District in Cumbria, which enabled him to claim over £26,000 of overnight subsistence expenses in 2007/2008, although he has lived in Notting Hill, west London, since 1964. In May 2009, he argued in justification that Lords regard the overnight allowance as a payment in lieu of salary. “We are the only legislators in the world that don’t get paid,” he said. “The overnight thing is quite generous because it compensates for not having a salary. In practice that’s how it works.”

Dubs is a Vice-President of the Debating Group.

So Lord Alf, how did all that Compassion of yours somehow miss the enormous criminal network with its HQ on your doorstep in Wandsworth which traded in children and vulnerable people? You’ve been the public face of Waifs In Need since 1988. You knew that Ollie at St George’s had been imprisoned and following that there were three high profile scandals at St George’s starring Ollie’s colleagues. Then there were high profile investigations into paedophile rings in Islington, North Wales, Lambeth, Leicester and other places. Your colleague Greville Janner was interviewed under caution with regard to sexual assaults on children in 1990. Don’t tell me that you didn’t notice, because when Greville next appeared in the Commons, he was greeted with a round of applause, so happy were you all to see his his face again.

Lord Alf remained schtum throughout the Waterhouse Inquiry, the more recent revelations re Jimmy Savile and since then the discussions regarding the Westminster Paedophile Ring, including the offending of his fellow Labour peer Viscount Tonypandy.

Ever since Esther discovered Lord Alf’s True Story, at certain times of Peak Distress for Dafydd et al, Lord Alf has been trotted out in the media to remind the world that he was once a Waif who was rescued from Hitler. Little Nell Hodge played the Hitler card the other day when Jeremy Corbyn hurt her feelings; Little Nell was the Leader of Islington Borough Council when the paedophile gang which murdered some of the witnesses operated within that Council. Greville raised the spectre of Hitler as well when he first stood accused; he claimed that the allegations against him were a result of anti-semitism.

Anti-semitism does exist, but we should not allow people who very obviously have questions to answer to muddy the waters by conjuring up images of Hitler which are completely irrelevant to matters under discussion.

Oh, by the way – Esther is Jewish aren’t you Esther?

It is not anti-semitism, this is about NETWORKS which are being utilised. The Jewish network is not the only network that was/is used by this lot, they have used and exploited every network which any of them have ever touched.

The biggest and best network of all at their fingertips is that of the Top Doctors.

Esther felt the full force of the Top Doctors when the BBC and Esther were sued by Dr Sidney Gee in 1984 after Esther featured him on ‘That’s Life!’ in June 1983. Sidney Gee was a ‘weight loss specialist’ who, from what I deduced, certainly had questions to answer. He wasn’t as excessive as Dafydd, but if I wanted to lose weight I would not have gone to Sidney Gee, no matter how desperate I was. Sidney Gee also sued two Top Doctors who appeared on ‘That’s Life’ discussing his treatment of patients, Dr Clemency Mitchell, a GP from Berkshire and Dr Roger Blackwood, a consultant physician at the King Edward Hospital, Windsor. Other defendants were the Chief Presenter of ‘That’s Life’ Gavin Campbell and Gordon Watts, Editor. Gee won the case and it cost the BBC more than a million.

Who acted for Dr Sidney Gee? Er, a Michael Beloff QC…

Esther never touched a Top Doctor again; shortly after Sidney Gee clobbered her, she joined forces with them when she launched her lame anti-child abuse campaign, then her mental health campaign, then her anti-drugs campaign… Child Abuse, Mental Illness, Drug Abuse – can anyone see Dafydd hidden in the picture?

Esther nearly got her fingers burnt again when in 1987, she exposed Holyrood House, a ‘nursing home’ for psych patients in Llandudno, in which patients were being beaten up and abused. Esther named and shamed one Margaret Richards as managing Holyrood House. Esther didn’t mention that all of the patients in Holyrood House had been sent there by one Dafydd Alun Jones and that he knew exactly what was happening to them. Nor did Esther mention the widespread rumours that Margaret Richards was yet another person whom Dafydd was shagging, that she purchased his suits for him – which might have been why they never fitted  – and that she was involved in crime in Llandudno. Esther quietly and very quickly dropped her interest in Holyrood House and returned to ringing the gas board and naming and shaming petty poorly paid officials as Jobsworth of the Month.

Millionaire Top Docs forcing kids and patients into sex work? No, Esther wasn’t going there. However she was happy to provide endless free PR for them.

In 1988 Esther launched another lame show, ‘Hearts Of Gold’. I have mentioned before that for a laugh my friends and I entered Dafydd for ‘Hearts Of Gold’ and asked Esther if Dafydd and his patients could meet Bob Monkhouse because they all loved ‘Bob’s Full House’. We pretended that the letter was from Janice Davies, Dafydd’s lying, crooked Nurse Rached at the North Wales Hospital. We never heard back from ‘Hearts Of Gold’, but years later, I found a copy of my letter to ‘Hearts Of Gold’ in my medical records, with accompanying documentation from those we know and love: Look what she has done now!!! Janice is a Senior Angel at the North Wales Hospital and she has IMPERSONATED Janice!!!

So who was Dafydd’s contact at ‘Hearts Of Gold’ then BBC??

  • Bob Monkhouse's comedy gems found in an old bag | TV ...

Lord Max Beloff was not the only link between Ioan Bowen Rees, the Fiery Welsh Nationalist Who Was Of The Gwerin And Who Hated The English. Ioan – who was incredibly enough an expert on local democracy and even published some highly rated volumes in the field, one of which was highly recommended by Lord Max – co-authored with the Irish historian Owen Dudley Edwards (see post ‘Events, Dear Boy, Events’). Owen Dudley Edwards is the brother of Irish writer Ruth Dudley Edwards. Ruth Dudley Edwards was married to Patrick Cosgrave.

Patrick Cosgrave brought up a Catholic, in poverty in Ireland. Cosgrave rebelled against the severe Catholic piety of his mother and his teachers and acquired a love of British history (or a certain interpretation of it) as a teenager, from reading Kipling, Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia. At University College Dublin, Cosgrave embraced the epithet “West Brit”; at a debate, when an opponent accused him of being “to the Right of Douglas-Home”, Cosgrave retorted that he was “to the Right of Lord Salisbury”. Cosgrave claimed that his grandfather, a warden in Mountjoy Prison, had beaten up Kevin Berry, a Republican rebel executed in 1920. Cosgrave partnered Anthony Clare to win the ‘Irish Times’ debate and the ‘Observer Mace’ debate.

Anthony Clare was an associate of Dafydd’s from the Maudsley, who colluded with serious crime yet was robustly promoted by the BBC as a Caring Top Doc who’s hands were unsullied with the blood of the barbaric asylum docs from past times.

Patrick Cosgrave did his PhD at Peterhouse at Cambridge, which was renowned as a college where gay male students, along with some of their tutors did interesting things such as dressing up in women’s clothes and adopting girls’ names. Michael Portillo took part in such japes when he was at Peterhouse. Cosgrave was was among the Peterhouse alumni nicknamed “the reactionary chic” by the ‘New Statesman’.

Having freelanced for Radio Telefis Eireann (RTE) while at UCD, Cosgrave was appointed as their London correspondent in 1968, when the Northern Irish Troubles revived. Cosgrave met all the leading politicians at Westminster, who were then brushing up on their Irish history and Cosgrave provided RTE with the fruits of his contacts. So Cosgrave knew about Kincora and allowed himself to be used by the British state, who ensured that the crime continued and that those responsible were never held to account.

After helping out the Gov’t which caused so much trouble in N Ireland, in 1969, Cosgrave joined the Conservative Research Dept, which was at the time known for being a haven of gay male Tories, some of whom went cruising for boys when in London and enjoyed holidays at a venue in Italy known as the ‘villa of shame’, where, according to Matthew Parris, ‘willing boys’ were supplied. At the Conservative Research Dept, Cosgrave became a Zionist. His job there included briefing Edward Heath on Prime Minister’s Questions, while continuing to write for ‘The Spectator’.

Cosgrave became political editor of ‘The Spectator’ in 1971, where his numerous, often scathing, articles about Heath’s leadership were influential in effecting the change to Thatch.

In 1975, Cosgrave became Thatch’s advisor while she was Leader of the Opposition. One person who had been key to Thatch becoming Leader of the Tories in 1975 was Peter Morrison. Thatch dropped Cosgrave after winning power in 1979, although as her adviser, he had been viewed as a futire Cabinet Minister. By 1979, Cosgrave’s excessive boozing was impairing his reliability.

Subsequently, Cosgrave was briefly Editor-in-Chief of Tiny Rowland’s Lonrho publications. After this, Cosgrave earned a precarious living as a freelance journalist and by writing books, mainly political biographies. Among other publications, he wrote for ‘The Times’,  ‘The Daily Torygraph’ and ‘The Independent’.

Cosgrave’s 1978 biography of Thatch was faulted for hero-worship. His biography of Enoch Powell, whom he also admired, was made with access to Powell and his correspondence.

Cosgrave obtained a British passport and sometimes attended services of the Church of England, while remaining agnostic.

Cosgrave married three times and divorced twice. It was his first marriage in 1965 that was to Ruth Dudley Edwards, his fellow student at UCD and, later, Cambridge. He married Norma Green, mother of his daughter Rebecca, in 1974; and Shirley Ward in 1981. Shirley Ward was Secretary of the European Democrats at the European Parliament.

Patrick Cosgrave had financial problems from the late 1970s and when Norma Green left him in 1980, Rebecca was made a ward of court. I bet that no-one dared entrust Rebecca’s welfare to Gwynedd Social Services. In 1981 the Inland Revenue filed a tax demand for over £10,000 and Cosgrave was declared bankrupt. His debt of £18,700 was discharged in 1985.

Cosgrave died of heart failure at the age of 59 in 2001, the year following the Waterhouse Report. His poor health was exacerbated by heavy drinking and smoking.

The Defender of Fortress Gwynedd Against Thatch:

  •  It’ll be Christmas before too long, so I’ll get ready to drive around Caernarfon equipped with a loud hailer on the car roof, to give everyone a rendering of some traditional Gwynedd County Council hymns and arias, including ‘Yma O Hyd’ and of course ‘Tomorrow Belongs To Me’. See you at the festivities Dafydd Iwan!

Now Lord Alf, do us all a favour and spare us your Compassion. We’ve all suffered quite enough at the hands of Mindfulness practitioners. When they spread their Compassion around north Wales, the following scenarios were not unusual:

Why would you leave me like this? stock photo
The evidence will speak for itself stock photo

This is what you did. All of you. While you bollocked on about Enemies Within, about being the first Kinnock in a Thousand Generations and Caring and Sharing and Prison Works and being Tough On Crime and Tough On The Causes of Crime. The security services knew exactly what was going on and told their political masters, who decided that it was going to continue.
People who went to the police were found dead. Or sometimes their children were.
Now just fuck off, the lot of you. You have caused enormous suffering and it was my friends who died while you troughed. Fuck off and now. You have been exposed for what you are and we don’t need any more of you mouthing off about Compassion or Stigma or Men Who Won’t Share.

Have The Lambs Stopped Screaming?

Now that Carwyn has announced his intention to stand down as FM in the autumn, Rhodri’s long term buddy and Spad, the paedophiles’ friend Mark Drakeford, has declared his intention to run for FM. So I thought that in this post I would return to the subject of Rhodri’s doings – whilst he was being advised by Drakeford – as described in his own words in that rather incriminating autobiography of his, ‘Rhodri: A Political Life In Wales And Westminster’.

Previous posts of mine discussed Rhodri’s career before he became FM, so now I’ll take a look at a few of the events after Rhodri became leader of Welsh Labour and FM in Feb 2000.

Within two weeks of becoming First Secretary (FM), Rhodri’s officials demanded a £1 million payment from the coffers of the Welsh Gov’t to the Richard Rogers Partnership. Richard Rogers, a mate of Blair’s, designed the building at Cardiff Bay which now houses the Senedd. The saga of Richard Rogers and the construction of the building that now houses the Senedd was a standing joke in Wales.

Ron Davies, the then Secretary of State for Wales, announced on 13 March 1998 that an international competition would be held to select the design of the building for the debating chamber. RIBA Competitions would oversee the competition and a design panel would recommend a design to the Secretary of State for Wales, ie. Ron. The Design Competition Advisory Panel was Chaired by Jim Callaghan. Callaghan and four members of the panel were appointed by Ron Davies and the remaining two members were appointed by the RIBA. Ron wanted a building ‘to capture the imagination of the Welsh people’ and the criteria of the competition was that the building should have a price tag of no more than £12 million including fees.

Richard Rogers Partnership (RRP) were announced as the lucky winner just ten days after the closing date for designs – 55 architects had originally shown an interest – after a unanimous decision of the Advisory Panel. Eleven days after Ron announced that RRP would be the project’s architects, Ron resigned as Secretary of State after having been caught with his trousers down on Clapham Common with Boogie (see post ‘Cottaging At Castle Gate’).

It was planned that the outline design would be completed by June 1999, and a detailed design completed by Feb 2000. Construction of the building was due to begin in Nov 2000 and be completed in April 2001. Rhodri replaced Alun Michael as First Secretary on 15 Feb 2000 and on 22 March 2000 Morgan stopped all work on the project to carry out a complete review. The decision to stop the project was supported by a vote in the National Assembly on 6 April 2000.

The review was carried out by the Assembly’s Management Services Division, the Property Advisors to the Civil Estate and Symonds Group Ltd. They considered the following options: cancel the project, continue with the existing design, design a building on Site 1E, improve the existing debating chamber, construct a small one in the courtyard of Crickhowell House and relocate to Cardiff City Hall. On 21 June 2000 it was agreed that the original proposal using the RRP design should proceed. Why Rhodri stopped the process and after a few months of farting around began everything again using RRP and the original plan I do not know.

An international competition was held to select the main contractor. It was advertised in the Official Journal of the European Community – which was where the advert for the Design Competition had been placed – and in Dec 2000, Skanska Ltd was selected as the main contractor. Edwina Hart, the Minister for Finance, Local Government and Communities, approved the final project design on 18 Jan 2001 and by 1 March 2001, a ceremony took place to mark the beginning of construction.

Six months after construction had begun and with only the piling and a temporary road around the site having been completed, Hart announced on 17 July 2001 that the National Assembly had terminated the contract of RRP. She said that despite the termination of the contract, the debating chamber should still be built to RRP’s design. RRP said of the project that ‘From the outset, RRP has advised that the project could not be built within a construction budget of £13.1 M due to client changes, the political requirement to use indigenous materials at any cost and exceptional contractor changes. RRP’s advice was consistently ignored. It is plainly untrue for the Finance Minister to assert that RRP underestimated the costs.’ Hart said she stopped the project because of the ‘significant underestimates in the cost plan prepared by RRP’, and that RRP ‘had hidden costs from the Assembly’.

I am wondering whether – as with the NHS in north Wales when she was Health Minister – Edwina knew the scale of the wrongdoing so put the boot in, only to find herself compromised in some way and then had to retreat.

A legal dispute then arose between RRP, who were claiming £529,000 in fees and the National Assembly, who were claiming £6.85 M in damages. On 10 Dec 2001 RRP requested an appointment of an adjudicator from the Construction Industry Council to resolve the issue. The adjudication took place in Feb 2002 and ruled that RRP was entitled to £448,000 of its claim, while the National Assembly was not entitled to any of the damages they had claimed.

In August 2001, the National Assembly appointed Francis Graves Ltd as the project managers, to review the whole project up until the termination of the RRP contract and to propose how the project should progress in the future. They reported that the ‘lines of accountability were complex and insufficiently clear’, that no project costs were obtained by the National Assembly, independent of RRP, until Dec 2000 and that the project ‘was highly susceptible to cost over runs’. The report recommended that the National Assembly appoint project managers – which they did when they appointed Schal International Management Ltd (part of Carillion) in May 2002. Northcroft Group Ltd were appointed as a subcontractor, responsible for cost management and they reported directly to Schal. Schal reported to a Project Board, who reported to the Minister for Finance, Local Government and Communities. The Project Board was made up of National Assembly and Welsh Government officials and a representative from Schal.

The Welsh Government decided that a fixed-price contract would be used for the second phase of construction. The overall aim was to ‘deliver a landmark building…to time, to an appropriate quality and within budget’. On 23 Oct 2002 an invitation to tender was issued through the Official Journal of the European Community, that journal having come up trumps on the two previous occasions on which it was used for tendering purposes.

Eight companies expressed an interest and the Welsh Assembly Government negotiated a fixed-price contract with Taylor Woodrow for £48.2 M. The contract was signed between Taylor Woodrow and Rhodri on 1 July 2003 and construction began for a second time on 4 August 2003. Taylor Woodrow were involved with the Channel Tunnel consortium so obviously WAG had been sufficiently impressed by the major problems and the appalling safety record – including the deaths of workers – during the construction of the Channel Tunnel to ask Taylor Woodrow to build the People’s Senedd.

Construction of the Senedd ended on 7 Feb 2006. The Senedd was opened by HM Lilibet, Phil the Greek, Prince Charles and Camilla on 1 March 2006, St David’s Day. There is a nice photo of the opening available featuring Lilibet, Richard Rogers and Rhodri’s mate, the paedophiles’ friend Sue Essex (for the lowdown on Sue see post ‘The Paedophiles’ Friends Of Cardiff North’).

Two years after the bash with Lilibet et al, Taylor Woodrow Construction were fined £200,000 and ordered to pay costs of £71,400, after being prosecuted by the HSE at Cardiff Crown Court. The breach contributed to the death of John Walsh, a foreman working for a subcontractor of Taylor Woodrow. The accident occurred on 14 March 2004 and was due to a cavity wall that Mr Walsh was filling collapsing on him, even though Taylor Woodrow Construction had recognised the risks before the contract had begun. Judge Neil Bidder QC said that ‘No-one seriously disputes it was an unsafe construction’.

The cost of the Senedd increased from £12M in 1997 to £69.6M in 2006. In a report published in March 2008 by the Wales Audit Office the reason for the difference between the two costs given was that the original estimate of £12M was not based on any detailed design of the final requirements of the building. Extra costs of the building were due to unforeseen security measures after the 11 Sept attacks in the United States. Or so it was claimed. I suspect that the paedophiles’ friends were flattering themselves if they believed that international terrorists would ever bother to fly a plane into their debating chamber to destroy them. A lot of people probably would have liked to have blown them to smithereens, but the kids in care and psych patients were penniless and drugged into oblivion by the Top Docs, it’s not as if any of them would have been in a position to cause mass death and destruction down at Cardiff Bay.

So Rhodri handed over a great deal more than £1 million to Richard Rogers, although he only mentioned the £1 million in his book. The death of John Walsh was a well-kept secret as well.

However Rhodri did have a fright in 2001 when he believed that someone was trying to kill him. He was sent flour in the post and there was a major scare because everybody thought that the white powder was anthrax. Why this conclusion was drawn was not made clear. Rhodri explains in his book that his right hand man Lawrence Conway – who had spent a lifetime in the Welsh Office concealing the crimes of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and the paedophiles – kept it all very quiet when it happened. Publicity did follow though when the man behind the ‘anthrax’ was put on trial at Cardiff Crown Court. The person concerned was a former chemistry teacher, Nicholas Roberts. Roberts had sent flour to a number of other people, including Jan Morris, the travel writer who in her previous incarnation as James Morris was a member of the 1953 Everest team which contained Sir Charles Evans. Evans was the Top Doctor who was Principal of UCNW (Bangor University) whilst many staff who facilitated the sex trafficking gang led by Dafydd and the paedophiles were employed in that institution. Jan Morris is equally famous as one of the first people in the UK who underwent gender realignment. Jan is big mates with a number of paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK’).

Media reports of the trial of Nicholas Roberts suggest that a lot went unsaid, or at least unreported. Nicholas stated that his sending flour through the post was a work of art. I know artists who do take this view of such things and after all there have been movements like Dada, which produced Marcel Duchamp’s ‘Fountain’ in 1917 – a gents’ urinal – and in 1920, Cologne’s Early Spring Exhibition was set in a pub and involved people walking past urinals whilst being read lewd poetry by a woman in communion dress. Of course the biggest act of Dada began in 1998, when Ron Davies kicked off that competition to build the Senedd…

The judge, John Griffith Williams QC, obviously didn’t understand Dada. He described Nicholas Roberts as a ‘very strange man indeed’ and stated that the sending of flour through the post had to be taken very seriously because Nicholas Roberts was a former chemistry teacher. No, I don’t follow John Griffith’s logic either.

It was reported that Mr Roberts had previous in terms of throwing eggs at Lilibet’s car on a Royal Visit to Cardiff and spraying road signs black because they were in English and not Welsh . So it sounded to me as though Mr Roberts was a man who protested about things.

What was not mentioned in Court or in the media reports was that Nicholas Roberts was well-known in Grangetown in Cardiff as the drag queen Gorgeous Gertie and there was much hilarity that Gorgeous Gertie had freaked Rhodri’s office out and that Lawrence Conway was trying to keep it quiet.

I am wondering why a drag queen prone to public protests felt like frightening an FM who had been previously accused of kerb crawling in the Grangetown area as well as a high profile transgender writer who was mates with some of the paedophiles’ friends. Perhaps Rhodri’s cousin Nia who lived in Beddgelert in Gwynedd might know.

Gorgeous Gertie paid a high price for his act of Dada. He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. You can’t be too careful with former chemistry teachers. Or indeed drag queens who knew who was doing what in the red light district down the road from the workplace of Rhodri and his colleagues whilst the Waterhouse Inquiry was underway.

Rhodri’s book sheds light on another matter that intrigued me as well. As the North West Wales NHS Trust slowly sunk underneath the weight of the scandals and the patient deaths and Edwina Hart, in her capacity as Health Minister, announced that she was going to abolish the Trust, Martin Jones the Trust CEO and Elfed Roberts, the Chairman of the Trust, began to go particularly mad as described in previous posts. Martin and Elfed caused great confusion by refusing to tell NHS staff what was going on and indeed a number of Trust staff did not believe that the Trust was going to be dissolved and that a new CEO and Chairman were to be appointed. Just before Martin and Elfed turned into pumpkins at the wave of Edwina’s magic wand, a new hospital was opened in Porthmadog, Ysbyty Alltwen. There was a PR piece in the local newspaper accompanied by a photo of Edwina and what was very obviously Martin and Elfed at the opening ceremony, labelled ‘Edwina Hart and some local people’. I was told that this was another signal to the masses that Martin and Elfed were about to be removed from their positions.

Everybody wondered why Ysbyty Alltwen had been built. It was a small hospital without many services, had been built at a time when the NHS was in deep, deep shit financially and because it was run and staffed by the paedophiles’ friends, was just as bad as the other NHS facilities in north Wales. I lived five miles down the road from Ysbyty Alltwen at one point and on one occasion I suffered an injury to my face when my – sizeable  – dog jumped up suddenly and bashed me in the mouth with his head by accident. As blood poured and teeth wobbled, my friend helped me phone Ysbyty Alltwen – which advertised itself as having an A&E. The Angel whom we spoke to was so fucking rude to us that she made it clear that if I actually went to Ysbyty Alltwen I would not be receiving treatment. The friend who listened to the Angel was a student nurse herself, so we decided to stay at my place whilst she helped me sort out the injury. From what I remember, I didn’t even give that Angel my name, so for once the hostility and flat refusal to do their job wasn’t personal. It was just another fucking dreadful Angel who knew that she could speak to the general public like this and in the event of a complaint there would be no investigation and no comeback.

Just after Ysbyty Alltwen was opened,  a man who lived in one of the houses virtually opposite the hospital murdered his wife and family. Press reports constructed it as a domestic violence case. The man concerned had in fact become seriously mentally ill and was supposedly under the care of the mental health services at the time. His wife and neighbours had begged for more help for him and all of them maintained that he had been a gentle devoted husband and father who had changed out of all recognition. Their pleas were ignored and by the time that he massacred his family, no-one from the mental health services had even seen him for weeks.

Rhodri’s book explained why a few more million was spent on a hospital that wasn’t needed and was staffed by the usual awkward bastards from the day that it opened. It was the result of a deal struck between Edwina Hart – who was then the Finance Minister – and Dafydd Wigley, the AM for Caernarfon – in order to get the Assembly’s first budget passed. So Dafydd Wigley – who for decades had lived in the bosom of the paedophiles’ friends but ‘didn’t know’ what a paedophile was (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’) – could boast to his constituents that he had secured a new hospital. A new hospital staffed by the same sort of lethal fuckwits who were slaughtering Lord Wigley’s constituents but as there was never any investigations, the relatives of the dead could prove nothing. Anyone who could read data sets however just had to look at the suicide rate for north west Wales and the dreadful health outcomes to know that something was going seriously wrong. The highest mortality rates in Europe for many conditions Lord Wigley.

Whilst Edwina and Lord Wigley were doing their dirty deal, Andrew Davies AM was Chief Whip. That’s the Andrew Davies who was the bedfellow of Meri Huws, who formerly worked as a community social worker for Gwynedd Social Services on the Maesgeirchan estate near Bangor. The Ty’r Felin children’s home was on Maesgeirchan. The girls at Ty’r Felin were taken to local pubs and nightclubs by social workers where they were sold for sex – the boys were trafficked to destinations further afield, including Dolphin Square (see post ‘Are You Local?’). At about the time that the dirty deal was being thrashed out – about the time of the publication of the Waterhouse Report – Meri returned from exile in Dublin and was given the job as Head of Lifelong Learning at Bangor University. Over the next few years Meri drove the dept into the ground. Staff were ruthlessly bullied and unlawfully dismissed and a young woman with serious visual impairment was forced out of her job because of her disability. Admittedly she had called Meri a ‘fucking gobshite’, but that was after disability discrimination and severe provocation. She could probably have used the defence of ‘fair comment’, but having learning difficulties and never having travelled much further than her home town of Caernarfon (Lord Wigley’s constituency), she probably didn’t know that the legal precedent had been set in the court case involving Derek Jameson aka Sid Yobboe and ‘Private Eye’ years previously.

Whilst Meri was Head of Lifelong Learning, Lifelong Learning offered ‘courses’ in partnership with CAIS, the charity Chaired by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones which numbers Lucille Hughes, Meri’s former boss at Gwynedd Social Services, as a Trustee.

Before going into exile in Dublin, Meri spent a few years employed at that other home for paedophiles’ friends, Bangor Normal College. The Normal College was the teacher training college in Bangor, which eventually merged with Bangor University.

Whilst Meri was causing havoc at Bangor University, during one General Election campaign a Professor at Bangor told me that he had met Dafydd Wigley campaigning in Bangor. The Professor expressed his extreme concern to Dafydd Wigley about events at the University and told Wigley that the Welsh-speaking VC was being undermined by a non-Welsh speaking PVC, namely Fergus Lowe. Fungus was using his knowledge of the paedophiles’ friends to cause much trouble. A lot of us had noticed this and had also noticed that the VC was receiving no support at all from people like Dafydd Wigley – the Professor concerned told us that he had hoped that perhaps the Defenders of Language and Nation in Plaid might wake up to what was happening if the problem was couched in such terms. They didn’t. Although Dafydd Wigley did say to the Professor concerned that he knew Meri. The Professor told us that it was difficult not to respond with ‘not in the carnal sense I hope’.

I discovered today that Bangor Normal has a famous old boy who had escaped my notice – the actor Windsor Davies, he who found fame in the 70s TV favourite ‘It Ain’t Half Racist Mum’. After learning his trade at the knees of the paedophiles’ friends at Bangor Normal, Windsor worked as a teacher at Mountside School for Boys in Staffordshire. There was a long-standing paedophile ring in Staffordshire which was concealed by numerous people for years. Windsor Davies had a moment of pop stardom in 1975 with a recording of ‘Whispering Grass’ with his co-star Don Estelle from ‘It Ain’t Half Racist Mum’. When I was illegally detained in Seiriol Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd by Meri Huws’s colleague Jackie Brandt after being threatened by Alun Davies, the ‘entertainment facilities’ for patients – some of whom were held there against their will for months – were two ping pong bats and one ball and one of those poles with a sponge ball attached to a cable, the idea being that people could bat the sponge ball around the pole, as well as an ancient record player. There was only one record available however – it was ‘Whispering Grass’ by Windsor Davies and Don Estelle. I discovered later that the only reason that the patients even got those things as ‘entertainment’ was that there had been absolutely nothing at all, so one of the nurses had brought in some of the things that had belonged to their kids but that the kids had grown out of.

Are you enjoying the subsidised restaurants in the House of Lords then Lord Wigley?

Windsor Davies appeared in numerous films including ‘Murder Most Foul’, ‘Drop Dead Darling’, ‘Carry On Behind’ and ‘Carry On England’. He also appeared in ‘Casualty’.

Windsor starred in a special production of ‘Under Milk Wood’, the cast of which was entirely composed of Welsh actors and actresses who had hit the big time during those years of peak child abuse in Wales, the 60s, 70s and 80s. George Martin – friend of ‘The Beatles’ and one who was involved in boosting the metamorphosis of the offsping of the paedophiles’ friends into international rock stars during the Waterhouse Inquiry (see post ‘The International Language Of Screaming’) – arranged the production and another star was Nerys Hughes, who found fame  as the posh one in ‘The Liver Birds’. Nerys’s mother in ‘The Liver Birds’ was played by Mollie Sugden, who was rather better known for her adventures with her pussy in ‘Are You Being Served?’

Nerys was brought up in Rhyl and went to Howell’s School in Denbigh. Nerys’s mum and dad were Myfi and Ted Kerfoot-Hughes. There was a solicitor in Flintshire called Kerfoot-Roberts whom Ronnie Waterhouse was big mates with and who started Waterhouse on his career in law, but I don’t know if he had any links with Nerys Hughes’s family. Nerys Hughes and her clan will probably have known Ronnie and co because every one of them was an enthusiastic Eisteddfodwr. Nerys still has many relatives in north Wales, including her sister Eleanor Parry who lives in Deganwy with husband Roland. Eleanor’s son, Nerys’s nephew, is Rev Robert Parry, a Welsh Minister in Wrexham. Nerys’s family took their Methodism seriously and in interviews Nerys has talked about the excellent start in life that they gave her. She has paid tribute to her ‘good family’. They seem to have ignored a great deal of unpleasantness around them though Nerys.

Nerys played the lead role in ‘The District Nurse’ and back in 1970 played bit parts in films ‘A Severed Head’ and ‘A Girl Like You’. Nerys is married to TV cameraman Patrick Turley. Presumably between them they did come across the name ‘Jimmy Savile’ at some point in their careers – as I suspect Nerys will have come across the names ‘Gwynne and Dafydd’ when she was young.

Nerys was a regular on ‘Call My Bluff’ in the 1980s, appearing alongside Robert Robinson, Frank Muir and that one who had a very bad stammer. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie performed a send up of ‘Call My Bluff’, where some of the words involved were ‘insufferable’, ‘smug’, ‘pompous’ etc. With Nerys on the panel, perhaps Robert Robinson et al could have all had a go at defining words such as ‘paedophile’, ‘lobotomy’, ‘chlorpromazine’ and ‘haloperidol’.

The rock group ‘Half Man Half Biscuit’ released a song called ‘I Hate Nerys Hughes (From The Heart)’ on their album ‘Back in the D.H.S.S.’ Which was where so many of us were thanks to the paedophiles’ friends. Meanwhile the Top Docs and Angels enjoyed holidays in the south of France, the Far East, cruises on the Nile etc. How do I know? Because they used to tell the patients about it. Whilst telling patients that they weren’t budgeting properly when patients told them that they couldn’t afford to pay bills, afford bus fares or in some cases food.

Nerys’s nephew the Rev Robert Parry was previously the Minister at Bethel Presbytarian Church of Wales in Birmingham. There were numerous connections between Dafydd and the paedophiles of north Wales and corrupt professional people in the West Midlands. The Rev Parry is now the Minister at Capel Y Groes, Wrexham and was involved in the 2011 National Eisteddfod at Wrexham. If the family are Methodists and live in Deganwy, they will know  paedophiles’ friend Lord Roger Roberts (see post ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’).

One did not need to be professionally qualified as a Top Doctor or an Angel in north Wales to make a comfortable living from the desperate. I have mentioned in previous posts that the mental health services in north Wales were so bad that by the late 1990s some patients were spending their disability benefits – those that had actually managed to get disability benefits – on various ‘therapists’ specialising in complementary therapies. The complementary therapists were giving free sessions at the MIND Abbey Road Centre in Bangor – which was run and staffed by people who knew all about the abuses of the paedophiles’ friends but who concealed everything that they were told – and once the service users had been fed utter nonsense about the ‘science’ underlying the head massages/root rubbing/ear candles etc and had been convinced that it would help them, sky high prices were charged.

Whilst I took the view that the complementary therapists were a lot less damaging than the sociopaths who staffed the mental health services, there were some very worrying aspects to the phenomenon. Some of the therapists were basically nice people who did not abuse their clients, although they were out of their depth with the problems that their clients brought to them and didn’t always admit this. There were some however who were quite mad – a number of them were to be found at the misleadingly named Well-Being Centre in Caernarfon. Even more worryingly, as with the paedophiles’ friends who ran MIND in Bangor, there was someone in the Well-Being Centre in Caernarfon who was involved with Rape Crisis. The woman from the Well-Being Centre in Caernarfon enthusiastically told me all about her duties at the ‘rape rooms’. Which sounds like something one would have found at the North Wales Hospital frequented by Dafydd. Brown always maintained that it was no coincidence that the paedophiles’ friends were running Rape Crisis in north Wales, no-one could ever have afforded to let anybody competent into the system.

Some of the mad therapists gathered at a Healing Centre in College Road in Bangor. There was one therapist there who was not bonkers like the others – although I think that she must have known all about Dafydd and the paedophiles. She was a former Angel, her father had been a senior member of staff at Bangor University when the paedophiles’ friends ran the place and her ex-husband was a clinical psychologist at Bangor University who had worked at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh. She definitely knew how to treat people properly and didn’t mistreat or exploit patients, but she must have known about Dafydd. She had identified Howard Jones –  discussed in my post ‘Counselling, Caring And A Bit Of Identity Fraud…’ –  as being completely unsuitable to be working as a therapist.

There was however another ‘therapist’ who worked in the Healing Centre at College Road who was not only completely unsuitable to be working as any sort of therapist, but who most certainly knew about the paedophile ring – because she used to work in the Ty’r Felin children’s home at Maesgeirchan. Even the Waterhouse Report admitted that Nefyn and June Dodd, who ran Ty’r Felin, seriously abused the children there. Children were punched, kicked, forced to work as free labour in local businesses, kept short of food, sexually assaulted and made to lick Nefyn Dodd’s boots. At the Waterhouse Inquiry, a letter was produced which had been sent to Lucille Hughes in support of June and Nefyn Dodd, whilst Ty’r Felin was under investigation. The letter purported to be from a former resident of Ty’r Felin who was in Risley Remand Centre. The letter was a forgery and Ronnie Waterhouse accepted this. Did Ronnie investigate further? No. He stated that he would ‘ignore’ this key piece of evidence that someone in a prison in England had such a vested interest in ensuring that Nefyn and June Dodd were not held to account that documents were being forged.

I knew the ‘therapist’ who worked at Ty’r Felin well because she used to live near me in Rachub. She freely discussed what a complete bastard Nefyn Dodd was until the Waterhouse Inquiry began. At which point she stated that Dodd was an utter git but ooh no she never saw anything so she couldn’t go to the police with any evidence.

After the Waterhouse Inquiry ended, the fortunes of this woman took a sudden inexplicable turn for the better. She was from a local family and had lived in Rachub for years, as the most hippiest of all the hippies. She was so extreme that most of the hippies did not get on with her that well and kept a safe distance. There was much resentment towards her locally because she had a small boy – who was actually lovely – and would ask people if they could babysit ‘for a couple of hours’ and she would then disappear for literally days. Usually to a festival or a rave, knowing that she had selected a reasonably sane person to babysit and that they would never abandon the little boy. Then she acquired a horse without acquiring the land on which to keep the horse. Not that it mattered – she just put the horse in someone else’s field. And when the farmer kicked the horse out, into someone’s garden no less. A posh garden, with the lawn edged by expensive bricks – the horse trampled the garden and crushed the bricks. However she was able to commune with the horse – who was called Rainbow – and told one of the neighbours that the good thing about Rainbow was that she was a single parent as well and understood such matters. On another occasion she explained to me that one of her friends had experienced a breakdown and had been healed by a dolphin. I thought that this friend must have been off swimming with dolphins, so I asked further and it was explained that the friend in question had never actually met a dolphin but a dolphin ‘got through’ to him telepathically whilst he was ill and it did him the world of good.

So imagine everyone’s surprise when this person constructed herself as a therapist, gained employment at the Healing Centre in College Road, started appearing in Bangor wearing a suit and moved into a very expensive house further down the road at Llanllechid. One of her neighbours – who had been one of those who had babysat for days and nights at a time, who had looked after the therapist and her son when they were ill, supplied meals etc – bumped into her in Bangor and commented that no-one in Rachub had seen her for a while. Whereupon the therapist stated that ‘everybody in Rachub is scum’ and she wasn’t going to bother with them anymore. The neighbour observed to me that the therapist seemed to have forgotten that the rest of Rachub had brought up her son.

Everyone knew that the therapist in question was selfish, exploitative and irresponsible and was certainly no therapist after telling a young woman who’s baby had died as a result of SIDS that the baby had died as a result of the young woman’s ‘karma’, – that was the cause of the Holocaust as well no less – but more importantly from the point of this blog, that therapist who denounced the whole of Rachub as scum witnessed what Nefyn and June Dodd did to those kids at Ty’r Felin.

So Patricia Margaret White aka Pats Reclin aka Isha the Therapist or indeed whatever name that you are using at the moment, would you like to make a police statement admitting what you really witnessed whilst you worked at Ty’r Felin? Because everybody else knew what was happening to those kids. I suspect that Pats was not the only person who was well-rewarded for keeping her mouth shut throughout the Waterhouse Inquiry. The son of hers who was brought up by the scum of Rachub whilst Pats went out and got pissed and stoned for days on end wanted to do medicine. He was bright, but had a disaster with his A levels and had to re-sit the following year. Nonetheless, he still got into Edinburgh onto the medicine degree. I know something about Edinburgh University School of Medicine – they are very elitist, up their own arses in every way possible and do not usually give places to students who have stuffed up their A levels on the first try. Had Pats’ son been at a public school, yes, he might just have wangled a place through nepotism and the old boy network – but he was the son of a mad hippy who was at Friars School in Bangor, it wasn’t Eton.

But of course, as I have mentioned previously, Friars does have an old boy network – the paedophiles’ friends constitute the alumni of Friars School. North Wales is choc full of senior police officers and NHS managers  – such as Elfed Roberts – who went to Friars and some of Bangor’s Top Docs went to school there as well.

Was the success of Pats’ son also related to Pats keeping schtum about events at Ty’r Felin?

The last that the scum living in Rachub heard of Pats, she was in Australia after having spent time at the Findhorn Community. Her son has qualified as a Top Doctor but I don’t know where he is working – he has changed his name.

Pats may also have information about the theft of the Hergest patient F’s child and the fitting up of F (see post ‘Killing Floor – I  Know Cos I Was There!’) as well as the death of Martin, who witnessed it all. Being a creature of raves and festivals in north Wales, Pats was frequenting such events with Jeff Crowther, the psychiatric nursing manager from the Hergest Unit and his friend Gareth Phillips, who also worked at the Hergest Unit. Jeff also attended knees-ups with Mary Vernon, another friend of the family who colluded with Gwynedd Social Services and others to frame F.

Whilst I am naming accessories, I think that a Gwynedd social worker called Amber needs to come forward as well. I saw Amber just before I left Bangor when I was out buying groceries one day. She stood glowering at me as though I had murdered her gran and I asked someone who knew her what the problem was and I was told that ‘she’s working with the Arfon Community Mental Health Team’. I knew Amber in 2000, when she was a social work student. She objected to the presence of another student on the course because he was German and stated that she would not want a bloody German as a social worker. Well Amber, most people wouldn’t want a member of a gang of paedophiles as a social worker but that’s all that was ever on offer in north Wales and now you’ve joined them.

You can intimidate some of the people some of the time Amber, but you can’t intimidate all of the people all of the time. And you lot should not have believed that you could do it to me because it was not going to work. I will be naming all of you now, absolutely all of you. Take a hint and don’t ever, ever try this again with other witnesses.

Amber has also completed a course in complementary therapy!

To return to Welsh celebs who somehow ignored a few real horrors on their way up, up and away. The leading role in George Martin’s production of ‘Under Milk Wood’ was occupied by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Hopkins was born in Port Talbot. He has stated that his father’s working class values have always underscored his life: ‘Whenever I get a feeling that I may be special or different, I think of my father and I remember his hands – his hardened, broken hands’. Being a thespian, Sir Anthony will have calloused hands. To instil discipline, Sir Anthony’s parents insisted he attend  Jones’s West Monmouth Boys’ School in Pontypool. Sir Anthony remained there for five terms and was then educated at Cowbridge Grammar School. He stumbled into acting at 17 with a YMCA group. Sir Anthony’s one line was ‘Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth’. As the lady in the crowd listening to the sermon on the mount in ‘The Life Of Brian’ observed, it’s nice that the meek are getting something because they’ve had a hell of a time.

Sir Anthony maintains that Snowdonia ‘is one of the most beautiful places in the world and Snowdon is the jewel that lies at its heart’. Sir Anthony’s love of Snowdonia has led him to live in Malibu, California in the same way that professional Liverpudlian Cilla had a lorra lorra love for her mansion in Buckinghamshire.

Hopkins was influenced and encouraged by Welsh compatriot Richard Burton – another man from Port Talbot who chose places such as Hampstead and Switzerland as locations in which to live and get pissed – whom he met at the age of 15. Hopkins enrolled at the Royal College of Music and Drama. After his national service, Sir Anthony studied at RADA.

Sir Anthony developed a drink problem but has been sober since 1975. I doubt that he was one of Dafydd’s patients at the North Wales Hospital.

Sir Anthony moved to the US in the late 1970s but returned to London in the late 80s. He relocated to the US once more in the 90s. Interestingly enough, Sir Anthony became a US citizen in 2000, immediately after those few years in which he desperately flagged up his Welsh credentials.

In 1996, Sir Anthony directed an adaptation of Chekov’s ‘Uncle Vanya’,  set in Wales. He became President of the National Trust’s Snowdonia Appeal, raising funds for the preservation of the Snowdonia National Park. In 1998 Sir Anthony donated £1 million towards the £3 million needed to aid the Trust’s efforts in purchasing parts of Snowdon. Prior to the campaign, Hopkins authored Anthony Hopkins’ Snowdonia, which was published in 1995. Hopkins has been a Patron of the YMCA centre for more than 20 years. Hopkins contributed toward the refurbishment of a £2.3 million wing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, named the Anthony Hopkins Centre, which opened in 1999.

So it rather looks as though Sir Anthony discovered and publicised a deep love for his homeland and for Snowdonia in particular at the same time as all that dreadful publicity about a paedophile ring in north Wales which involved famous people and was concealed at the highest levels. Sir Anthony became a US citizen after Ronnie Waterhouse published his cover-up and everyone slept easily once more.

Sir Anthony is probably most well-known for his role as Hannibal Lecter, the cannibalistic psychiatrist in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’. Dr Tony Francis (Dr X) told me that was his favourite film. Francis killed himself after Operation Pallial re-opened the investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal, so here’s a reminder of the fallen soldier:

Well Professor Drakeford – have the lambs stopped screaming?
Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.jpg

It was during the early days of Rhodri’s time as FM, in 2002, when I was arrested and charged with ‘threats to kill’ after I told Alun Davies’s secretary, over the phone, that Davies was a fat idiot (see post ‘Interesting Happenings In The Legal System’). Davies maintained that he was terrified of an imminent murderous attack from me. Where was Davies at the time? Walking alone at night in Snowdonia perhaps with me nearby? No. I was in hospital in Bangor and Davies was at a meeting in the National Assembly in Cardiff. Davies made eight or nine calls to the police from the Assembly demanding that I be arrested and charged. I understand that Davies’s first few calls demanded my arrest for calling him a fat idiot, but after he was told by the police that it would be ridiculous to arrest me for such an offence, Davies then rang them again claiming that I’d threatened to kill him and that he and his family were living in fear.

Jane Hutt was Health Minister whilst Davies made those calls. Presumably someone at the National Assembly knew that Davies was making those calls and also knew that not only was he in no danger of being murdered but that he only claimed that he was after his initial attempts at having me arrested for calling him a fat idiot was unsuccessful. Would Jane like to explain exactly what was going on in the Assembly on that day?

Whilst Hutt was Health Minister, Mark Drakeford was her Spad. Drakeford has now announced his intention to stand as a candidate for FM and Hutt has told the BBC that Drakeford as FM would be ‘a blessing for Wales’. Perhaps The Blessing who was once a social worker who’s colleagues facilitated a paedophile gang can remember what was going on in the Assembly on the day that he and Hutt were in the company of Alun Davies whilst Davies lied his arse off to the police and had me arrested.

Not that I was arrested immediately. I was a patient in the Hergest Unit at the time and the police refused to enter the hospital and arrest a patient. So I was discharged and arrested as soon as I got home. Which took a while because I was discharged with no money and no transport and had to hitch hike back to my place in Snowdonia.

The Top Doc who facilitated all this was Dr Tony Roberts. Roberts had the highest suicide rate among his patients in any part of England and Wales except for Camden. Hutt and Drakeford knew this because so many of Roberts’s female patients killed themselves that it showed up as a statistical outlier and was the subject of a BBC News report. Roberts had previously worked at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and was a University of Manchester graduate, so he will have known Dafydd and Tony Francis’s mates who worked at Manchester (see post ‘The Mentor’).

My subsequent complaint about Tony Roberts and co – which included a complaint about being assaulted and injured by four members of staff – was never investigated, either by the NW Wales NHS Trust or by  Gwynedd Community Health Council. The Chief Exec of the CHC at the time was Glanville Owen, who had been the senior manger in Gwynedd Social Services responsible for children’s homes whilst the paedophile gang had worked within those homes. Glanville told the Waterhouse Inquiry that he didn’t expect to continue his career. Rob Evans, who had been another senior manager with responsibility for children’s homes in Gwynedd also told the Inquiry the same thing. See post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’ for details. Until recently Glanville was still a member of the CHC and Rob Evans was Director of Community Services for Anglesey County Council.

Can Jane and The Blessing explain why Glanville and Rob’s careers continued to thrive after Waterhouse?

Keith Thomson, the CEO of the NW Wales NHS Trust, flatly refused to investigate my complaint or to co-operate with any investigations held by anyone else, declared me a ‘vexatious complainant’ and refused to respond to my letters. I took the matter up with the Ombudsman for Wales, Adam Peat. After my correspondence was ignored, I rang the Ombudsman’s office and spoke to Peat’s sidekick, Geraint Jones, to enquire about progress. Geraint told me that my complaint would not be investigated and then threatened me.

I wrote again and some weeks later received a letter from Adam Peat telling me that it would not be in the public interest to investigate my complaint. Adam Peat had previously worked in the Welsh civil service and had been CEO of Tai Cymru, 1989-98. After stepping down as Ombudsman Peat became the Chair of a Magna Housing, a big housing association in the West Country. All references to Adam Peat have now disappeared from the internet, but further details about him can be read in my post ‘Yet More Crime And Punishment’.

Geraint Jones is still working in the Office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales. He is Assistant Investigation Manager.

Not only was I prosecuted for a serious offence which numerous people in the NW Wales NHS Trust and the National Assembly knew that I had not committed, but Keith Fearns, the leader of the Arfon Community Mental Health Team, then paid a visit to the headmaster of the school where I was employed and told him that I represented a danger to the pupils. The headmaster told Fearns that he had never had any concerns about me. I understand that Fearns ordered the headmaster to suspend me and threatened him and his wife. They were in a particularly vulnerable position because they had two close relatives who were in the care of the mental health services in Gwynedd.

Fearns had never played any part in my ‘care’, he broke confidentiality – although he should never have had access to any information about me anyway, I later found that Fearns was even being sent clinical details of medical treatment that I had received which was unrelated to mental health  – and also told my former employer a number of things that weren’t true. After my employers refused to dismiss me, the headmaster and his wife received phone calls from four parents who worked as Top Doctors at Ysbyty Gwynedd who demanded that I be sacked. I told the school that I would resign because the paedophiles’ friends were clearly going to cause the school serious grief.

Sadly my resignation wasn’t enough for the paedophiles’ friends. The headmaster and his wife were subjected to the standard whispering campaign. In July 2004, a pupil at the school, Kian Williams, had an accident in the playground which resulted in a head injury. Kian was taken to Alder Hey Hospital and whilst he was there he contracted an infection and died. Did his family sue Alder Hey? Er, no. His grandfather paid my former employers a visit and told them that the family would sue them. The North Wales Police and the HSE investigated and the school was prosecuted. My former employers were initially found guilty but appealed and were subsequently cleared.

There was a great deal of very bad publicity for the school and the strain made both the headmaster and his wife ill. After they were cleared on appeal, things escalated. A relative of Kian’s placed a wreath of flowers at the gates of the school on the anniversary of his death. The headmaster’s wife went out to take the wreath into the school grounds only to find a photographer from the ‘Daily Post’ waiting outside. She was photographed and an article was subsequently published claiming that she was callously disposing of the wreath…

Not only was there a wreath placed outside the school along with a ‘Daily Post’ photographer, but Kian’s parents somehow persuaded a TV production company to make a documentary about their Journey Of Recovery following Kian’s death. The documentary received much publicity.

Throughout the media coverage of Kian’s death and the aftermath, no-one managed to mention that Kian’s grieving parents – who were photographed holding hands as they talked of their heartbreak – had not only split up after Kian’s birth, but had never actually looked after Kian. They went their separate ways and Kian was brought up by his grandparents. It was Kian’s grandfather who met the headmaster and his wife after Kian’s death, not Kian’s parents. Did Kian’s grandfather tell the headmaster and his wife that they were heartbroken after Kian’s death? No. They explained that they had always been happy with the school but that someone had to be sued and they could never take on the NHS, so it was the small private school that was going to get it in the neck.

Kian’s parents and his grandfather did not cause all the aggro alone. They had help – help from someone who really wanted to give Hillgrove School a kicking.

Now that The Blessing wants to be FM, perhaps he and Jane Hutt would like to supply full details of who assisted in the shameful, shabby witch hunt against two people who had dared to employ me as well as try and stand up to Keith Fearns.

I will mention here the death of another schoolboy from Gwynedd about which the full truth was never told, a death very different to Kian’s and many years previously. In 1989 a teenaged pupil from Ysgol David Hughes, Simeon Probert, was found hanged in the family home at Menai Bridge. Simeon’s mother maintained that Simeon was being bullied at school and that was why he killed himself. Mrs Probert launched an anti-bullying campaign and for many years placed notices in newspapers on the anniversary of Simeon’s death. Bullying in schools can have very serious consequences and even these days schools are very reluctant to admit to a bullying problem, even if they are well aware that they have one. However after Simeon’s death I was told by a number of people – including pupils at David Hughes – that Simeon was not being bullied and that there were other reasons why Simeon might have killed himself which were not made public.

I didn’t know Simeon or his mother, but I did know his father. Dr Probert was a lecturer in the Zoology Dept at UCNW (Bangor University) – he ‘did’ platyhelminthes (flatworms). There were some very lurid anecdotes circulating around UCNW regarding Dr Probert’s activities at conferences…

One of Dr Probert’s colleagues, Dr Clifford-Jones, had a son who was notorious in Bangor. He was alleged to have been part of an ‘extremist Welsh Nationalist’ group who did pretty much what they wanted because of their parents’ connections. By the time that I was an undergrad, Clifford-Jones junior was at Manchester University becoming an accountant, but I did hear quite a lot about him from local young people. He was famed for walking across the chains of the Menai Suspension Bridge. Which is not that difficult to do, the chains are quite substantial, but Clifford-Jones’s son had epilepsy, so he was taking quite a risk balancing on those chains hundreds of feet above the Menai Strait.

People of Probert’s and Clifford-Jones’s vintage are dying out now, but there is someone working at the School of Biological Sciences in Bangor who will remember the halcyon days when UCNW was run by the paedophiles’ friends – Professor Simon Webster. Simon Webster was a post-doc in the mid-1980s and he knew as much about the madness as the rest of us did. Simon Webster is a crustacean endocrinologist who received publicity recently as a result of working with Bear Grylls. Boy Scout Bear is the son of Sir Michael Grylls who was involved in the cash for questions scandal with Sir Peter Morrison, the man whose molesting of kids in care was being concealed by the paedophiles’ friends in UCNW…

Unbeknown to me, after Fearns threatened my employers, a whistleblower who worked at the Hergest Unit was so appalled at Fearns’s behaviour that he wrote to Alun Davies under public interest disclosure guidelines. I now have copies of the correspondence. The Hergest whistleblower stated quite clearly that Fearns and his colleagues were conducting a vendetta against me, that confidentiality was being breached constantly, that misleading statements had been supplied to the police and to other people and that no-one had ever deemed that I was any sort of risk to children. Alun Davies replied to say only one thing – he gave the whistleblower a bollocking for using official Trust headed paper.

After I got nowhere when I raised the matter of Fearns with Alun Davies and Gwynedd Social Services, my lawyer wrote to Gwynedd Social Services, who held Fearns’s contract. My lawyer wrote to Martin Davidson, the ‘service manager, mental health’ for Gwynedd Social Services, on 8 Oct 2002 but did not receive a reply. She wrote again on 29 Oct 2002 with no joy. Meanwhile she was also writing to the duty solicitor who had seen me when I was arrested after Davies’s multiple phone calls from the National Assembly. I have mentioned previously that when the paedophiles’ friends were really desperate to fit someone up, it was always Pwllheli Police Station and Magistrates Court that was used. Defendants from Bangor would be taken all the way to Pwllheli, passing several other police stations and magistrates courts on the way. It was to Pwllheli that I was taken after Davies demanded my arrest.

I didn’t know the solicitor on duty, it was a Richard Robyns, who was visibly frightened whilst we were in Pwllheli Police Station. On 22 Nov 2002 my lawyer wrote to Richard Robyns, asking him to clarify what charges I was actually facing, as they kept changing. My lawyer’s letter to Robyns noted that there was a ‘certain amount of bedevilling going on here’. She sent Robyns copies of all correspondence between us and the NW Wales NHS Trust and Gwynedd Social Services. So Richard Robyns knew that the law had been broken repeatedly but not by me. He did not comment upon any of it.

By 2003 nothing had been resolved. My lawyer had received a letter from Gwynedd County Council’s ‘customer care officer’ (!), Einir Gwyn, dated 13 Feb 2003 stating that there ‘had to be a remedy’ for me, recommending mediation or reconciliation. My lawyer then wrote to Glyn Hughes, the Assistant Director of Gwynedd Social Services. Glyn Hughes refused to hold any investigation and offered no resolution. I subsequently met with Glyn Hughes and Martin Davidson, accompanied by my lawyer. Davidson said nothing at any point. Glyn Hughes told us that it was at his discretion as to whether an investigation would be held and it wouldn’t be. He admitted that there was no evidence that I was or had ever presented a risk to children, that Fearns had breached all procedures and had broken the law but no action would be taken against anyone. Glyn told me that I was welcome to sue Gwynedd Social Services but that legal aid was not available for this and as I no longer had a job I obviously wouldn’t be able to fund such action myself. Glyn then started laughing, so my lawyer and I left.

The ‘service manager’ of Gwynedd’s Children’s Services at this time was Annwen Huws.

I was later told that Glyn Hughes ‘is an absolute bastard, even more of a bastard than the other bastards down there’. Martin Davidson was married to Nonn Williams, the Director of Gwynedd Social Services. There was a major row after Nonn, in her capacity as Director, negotiated a handsome pay rise for Martin, her employee and husband.

When my lawyer finally extracted my records after Keith Thomson, the CEO of the NW Wales NHS Trust, was summoned before the High Court in Cardiff and threatened with imprisonment for contempt if he didn’t release the records, I discovered among the documents a handwritten note with Martin Davidson’s name at the top and dated 10/12/02 saying ‘Sally Baker appearing in court – charges of harassment. playing everything short and formal’.

Martin Davidson and indeed Gwynedd Social Services were nothing to do with Alun Davies’s complaint against me. The perjurers who made statements claiming to have witnessed me threatening to kill Davies were drawn from the ranks of the North West Wales NHS Trust, not Gwynedd Social Services. Indeed I have a copy of the note signed by Patricia Gaskell, the solicitor for the NW Wales NHS Trust, which asks for ‘more nurses down to the police station to make complaints about Sally Baker please’.

Perhaps Jane Hutt and The Blessing could shed some light on the matter – Jane and The Blessing were responsible for Social Services as well as Health at the time.

The charges of ‘threats to kill’ suddenly disappeared when an NHS whistleblower came forward and stated that they had witnessed the conspiracy to frame me and that if the prosecution went ahead they would go public on the abuse of patients in the Hergest Unit.

After I was convicted of the lowest category of Public Order offence, I received a letter from the DES telling me that as my name was on the teaching register, I was now under investigation as a potential risk to pupils. By now I had really had a bellyful, so I replied making it quite clear how trivial my crime had been and how much evidence I had of serious criminal conduct on the part of the NHS and social services. I subsequently received a letter written in the snottiest of styles agreeing that there was no evidence that I was a risk to anyone but telling me that if ever I wanted to take up another teaching position I would have to undergo a medical examination. The only surprise is that they didn’t demand that it be done by Dafydd. The rationale behind this was, according to the DES, that I had ‘received mental health care for 17 years’. Which somehow didn’t quite capture the illegal arrests and detentions under the Mental Health Act and the constant refusals to treat me on the occasions when I was seriously depressed.

It got better. I discovered that my name had been entered, without my knowledge, upon a thing called ‘the serious mental illness register’. I didn’t know that such a register even existed, but I was told that it had been initiated to ‘prevent service users falling through the net’. Whilst my name was on the Nutters Register- which was what was causing the DES such distress now that they couldn’t pin a serious offence on me – Tony Roberts and Alun Davies refused me all care and treatment and told me that I would be arrested if I entered Ysbyty Gwynedd on the grounds that I wasn’t ill.

When Brown and I found out about this contradictory chaos, we spent time speculating about whatever would have happened if I had have been dangerous, murdered someone and a serious case review had been held. The NW Wales NHS Trust and Gwynedd Social Services would never have been able to have defended their actions. But there would have been no consequences for anyone, in the way that there never ever is, no matter how great the disaster. The Nonns, the Martins, the Glyns, the Tony Roberts’s and the Alun Davies’s are simply moved sideways into a new post on the same enormous salary and two years later are promoted. And now The Blessing wants to be FM.

There was only one person who was named and shamed as a result of all this. That was a junior Minister who was in the DES who had been the person responsible for clearing me and a number of other wrongly accused teachers. This Minister was named and was accused by the media of ‘allowing dangerous teachers’ – including paedophiles no less – to continue their careers. The dangerous irresponsibility of this Minister was used to argue that it should be social workers who make such decisions in future.

The Minister concerned was about the only leading light in Blair’s Gov’t who was not given a peerage when Blair finally fucked off. It was said that was because Blair never quite trusted this Minister. No, it was because this Minister was not a paedophiles’ friend – Blair knows who I am talking about and Blair knows how bloody shameful the whole episode was.

I was friends with another Hergest patient who had witnessed much of what had happened to me throughout that time. I had known him before – he was a patient in Bryn Golau Ward in the North Wales Hospital when I was there in 1986/87. He was found dead after the attempt to fit me up for threatening to kill Alun Davies collapsed. He had experienced heart failure brought on by the huge amount of ‘medication’ that he had been given. The Hergest whistleblower had repeatedly warned the Top Docs that this man’s life was being put in danger by gross over-prescribing.

I think that The Blessing needs to open an investigation into the death of Philip Jones when he takes office.

Another phenomenon grew to incredible proportions whilst the mental health services spent much time and effort trying to fit me up and force me out of my job – that of Service Users Champ Marion Janner, daughter of Greville. Marion launched a ‘social enterprise’, ‘Bright’, which established a scheme called Star Wards, in which shite abusive mental health units are given good publicity by Marion. Regular readers of this blog will remember that Marion has been featured here previously. I have mentioned Marion’s support dog Buddy, who accompanies Marion absolutely everywhere such is her trauma at everyday situations such as going on Radio 4 and praising an abusive mental health system. I do have an apology to make for misleading readers – I thought that Buddy was a labrador for some reason, but I have now discovered that Buddy is in fact a Tibetan Terrier. I have found a webpage providing info about Marion which presumably has been written by Marion herself and I was concerned to read that Marion ‘is perhaps best known though as the proud mother of Buddy, a 12 year old Tibetan Terrier, whose hairy little face graces many a mental health ward noticeboard and whose happiness-inducing presence among inpatients is a major inspiration to Star Wards’ work.’

Not only has Marion given birth to a Tibetan Terrier with a hairy little face – – one is reminded of the old joke ‘Mary had a little lamb, the obstetrician was astounded’ – but she also boasts of having two learning disabled foster sons. I wonder who on earth made the decision to allow Marion to foster learning disabled children. Probably the same person who believed that the nation’s service users needed a champ like Marion.

In 2010 Marion was given an OBE for her ‘services to mental health’. Whilst mental health patients dropped like lemmings in north Wales, whilst hundreds of them died in the care of Southern Health and there were no investigations and whilst the UK mental health services collapsed – as has now been admitted.

In June 2015, Marion was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the ‘Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing’. Professor Hugh McKenna made a speech and told everyone of Marion’s many qualities. McKenna stated that Marion was ‘a rare breed’ – well that dog that she gave birth to certainly is – and that before she transformed the UK’s mental health services, Marion was Project Manager at Learning Difficulties Media, Director of Payback and Head of Service, NACRO Training and Housing Services (for details of criminals employed by NACRO, see post ‘Inside Information About A Hergest Unit Death’). Marion is also a Trustee of the LankellyChase Foundation, ‘a charity that works to bring about change that transforms the quality of life of people who face severe and multiple disadvantage’. Perhaps people who whilst they were kids in care were sexually assaulted by a Labour MP who was then given a peerage, who was never charged and who are now being called liars by the adult children of that man – one of whom is a barrister, one of whom is a Rabbi and one of whom thinks that she’s given birth to a Tibetan Terrier.

Hugh McKenna is Dean of Medical School Development at the University of Ulster. Hugh was born and grew up in Belfast and is over 60 yrs old. So he’ll know about the allegations that in the 1970s, the residents of the Kincora Boys’ Home were sexually abused by a whole range of people, including British Army officers, Whitehall civil servants, Anthony Blunt and a member of the Royal Family.

So who was the National Assembly’s Chief Legal Advisor whilst the naked criminality was going on in north Wales on the watch of Hutt as she was being advised by The Blessing? Step forward Winston Roddick QC, Chief Legal Advisor for the National Assembly, 1998-Oct 2003.

Winston Roddick was born and raised in Caernarfon and was educated at the Royal Naval School Tal-Handaq, Malta and Sir Hugh Owen Grammar School. Winston will have been to school with many a paedophiles’ friend in Caernarfon and the Royal Navy/Malta connections could well mean that he knew Sir Alec Bingley, his wife Lady Juliet and their son William. Lady Juliet and William spent many enjoyable years colluding with Dafydd and the paedophiles when they worked for MIND and when William subsequently became Chief Exec of the Mental Health Act Commission (see post ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health – Never For Themselves Of Course’).

Roddick worked as a police officer in Liverpool whilst Dafydd built an arm of his empire in that city. Roddick then completed a law degree at UCL. He trained as a barrister and was called to the Bar in 1968 and worked on the gloriously corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit, along with Huw Daniel who was the corrupt judge who presided over my trial for calling Alun Davies a fat idiot. Roddick became a Crown Court Recorder. Whilst he was Chief Legal Advisor for the Assembly he advised on the creation and passing of the Welsh Language Act 1993. Presumably Winston was so busy doing that, that he missed all the people – Welsh speakers included – who were being stitched up in court in north Wales or who were dying because of the malpractice and neglect of the NHS and social services.

Roddick was the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, 2012-16. He stood as an Independent although he was a member of the Lib Dems. Roddick stood as the Liberal candidate for Anglesey in 1970 and Cardiff South and Penarth in 1983. Roddick served as Chairman of the Welsh Liberal Party in the early 80s.

The following names will be familiar to Winston – Jeremy Thorpe, Cyril Smith and Dr Death.

In 1997 Roddick was appointed as a member of the Independent Television Commission and he was a member of the S4C Authority, 2004-12.

Roddick is a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards. A leading light in the Gorsedd and the former Archdruid is Robyn Lewis. Lewis spent decades working as a solicitor in Pwllheli. Roddick is also Patron of Caernarfon Rugby Club, Honorary President of GISDA (a homeless charity for young people in Gwynedd) and Vice-President of Caernarfon Male Voice Choir.

Winston is a Freemason. He is or was an officer of the Dinas Llandaff Lodge, alleged to be the most powerful Lodge in Wales, containing a number of senior police officers and senior figures in the legal profession. Other members of the Dinas Llandaff Lodge included Stefan Terlezki, the former Tory MP for Cardiff West and Gwilym Jones, the former Tory MP for Cardiff North. Stefan Terlezki knew that George Thomas was abusing boys and as George Thomas was a Freemason, the other members of the Dinas Llandaff Lodge will have as well. Gwilym Jones spent a few years at the heart of the Welsh Office’s collusion with the criminality of Dafydd and the paedophiles (see post ‘The Paedophiles’ Friends Of Cardiff North’).

When Winston Roddick retired, allegations were made that Rhodri was so desperate to ensure that the job of Counsel General – by that time the Chief Legal Advisor of the Assembly has acquired that title – went to Malcolm Bishop QC, that he blocked the appointment of Gerard Elias QC. There was a grade A row and in March 2004 ‘Dragon’s Eye’ reported that Elias’s appointment had been recommended by an independent panel but Rhodri vetoed the recommendation. Claims were made that Rhodri wanted Malcolm Bishop in the post because Bishop was a member of the Labour Party. Rhodri’s office claimed that the allegations of cronyism were nonsense and that Rhodri did not know, had never met, or even spoken to, Bishop.

There will have been another reason why Rhodri wanted Malcolm Bishop as Counsel General and it won’t have simply been that he was a member of the Labour Party. Malcolm Bishop was educated at Ruabon Grammar School. So he grew up in the Wrexham area. He will have known all about Bryn Estyn, Bryn Alyn, Dafydd and the paedophiles.

Somebody else wanted Malcolm Bishop to be Counsel General for Wales as well – Derry Irvine, who had just stepped down as Lord Chancellor. Derry supplied Bishop’s reference.

Cherie and Tony were pupils of Derry’s. And Derry was a junior barrister to Sir Ronnie Waterhouse.

Malcolm Bishop studied theology at Oxford before he studied law. He seems to still have connections with the Church of England because he was interviewed by ‘Church Times’ earlier this year.

Bishop serves as a Deputy High Court judge, Recorder of the Crown Court, Chairman of the Isle of Man Legal Services Commission, Bencher of the Inner Temple and a member of the Family Law Bar Association Committee.  He was formerly a member of the Bar Council.

Two of the people who objected strongly to Rhodri’s efforts to crowbar Malcolm Bishop into the job of Counsel General for Wales were paedophiles’ friends Ieuan Wyn Jones and Eleanor Burnham. They were outraged to hear that Rhodri objected to Gerard Elias being appointed because Elias was a Freemason. You had nothing to worry about Ieuan and Eleanor – Malcolm Bishop was almost certainly a paedophiles’ friend as well, there was nothing to fear.

Why were Ieuan and Eleanor so worried? Well Ieaun grew up in Denbigh and worked as a solicitor in Ruthin with paedophiles’ friend David Jones (see post ‘The Right Honorourable David Jones MP’) and Eleanor grew up near Wrexham, was a manager in the Social Services, a magistrate in Wrexham and sat on Mental Health Review Tribunals for the North Wales Hospital Denbigh (see post ‘News Round Up, 13 October 2017’). I imagine that Ieuan and Eleanor were tripping over themselves to welcome Gerard Elias QC because of the role that he played in the cover-up that was the Waterhouse Inquiry (see post ‘The Waterhouse Tribunal – Who Was Involved And What Happened To Them Subsequently?’).

The whole bloody lot of them knew about the paedophile gang, the unlawful arrests and imprisonments and Dafydd’s dungeon at Denbigh.

Rhodri’s autobiography tells us that in 2003 he visited Velindre Cancer Centre. Rhodri was proud to boast that the ‘official visit was hijacked’ when he met Dave Campbell, whom Rhodri knew when Dave was a local councillor. Rhodri explained that Dave gave him a ‘people’s tour’ of the hospital.

I do not ever remember Rhodri arriving in north Wales for a ‘people’s tour’. I and a number of other people could certainly have given him one – the police stations where rules were broken; Taliesin Ward in the Hergest Unit where patients were violently assaulted and injured by Angels and where false accounts of the patients attacking Angels were documented; the HQ of the Arfon Community Mental Health Team at 26 College Road, Bangor where patients were threatened and sometimes assaulted and where suicidal clients were told to ‘go ahead and do it then’; and then one of the warden’s flats at Bangor University where suicidal students were dropping in and kipping overnight because the mental health services were flatly refusing to treat them.

After providing an account of the People’s Tour of North Korea that Dave gave him, Rhodri tells readers that there is now ‘a Wales of direct accountability to the people’. So that’s why I’m sitting here with 10,000 documents demonstrating criminality of the highest order on the part of the public services, including that which occurred between 2000-04, which was never investigated by anyone. Neither of course was the forged certificate of indictment stating that I had pleaded guilty to a serious offence with which I had never been charged, which was found in the possession of Chester Court. Neither have the unlawful alterations to my PNC record ever been investigated.

Rhodri reminisces about the events involving paediatric surgery in Cardiff in 1997 which he maintains would not have happened if the Assembly had been in place – the Assembly being known for its transparency – and refers to a case involving a Joe Jacobs, whom Rhodri alleges in the late 60s was turned down for the Chair of Paediatrics at Cardiff and went to Toronto, having been told that he was ‘too good for Wales’.

If Rhodri wasn’t dead I’d ask him to explain why there is a former cardiac surgeon working as a cabbie after being dismissed from his job at the University Hospital in Cardiff after he raised issues of patient safety. Then there was that business of the circumstances in which Ann Clwyd’s husband died at that hospital…

Rhodri explains in his autobiography that by 2005 Jane Hutt was ‘exhausted’ as Health Minister – covering up a heap of crap of that magnitude must take it out of one – so Rhodri replaced her with Dr Brian Gibbons. By the time that Gibbons had arrived in post I was writing to Ministers about the criminality in north Wales. I wrote to Gibbons and told him that I had documentary evidence of the most serious criminality in the NHS in north Wales. Gibbons wrote back and told me that ‘this correspondence is over’.

Rhodri’s book explains that he had monthly meetings with Gibbons in Gibbons’s capacity as Health Minister as a result of the ‘panic’ over waiting times. The ‘panic’ being that patients were waiting in agony, immobile, for years, for operations. Rhodri’s answer? He ‘contracted in expertise from England’. Rhodri the proud Welshman. As thick as a brick, appointed those who had run a paedophile ring to senior roles in Gov’t, the NHS and social services and then went crawling to the medical establishment in England and paid them to sort out the mess. Rhodri mentions that the ‘expertise’ came in particular from Bristol. So that would have been Dr DGE Wood’s mates then – the DGE Wood who was involved in running the paedophile gang.

So who is the disgusting Gibbons, Top Doc of Rhodri’s People? Gibbons is a GP who shared a practice with Julian Tudor-Hart, the well-known now very elderly Top Doctor who writes from a radical perspective. Gibbons is a member of the Socialist Health Association. Is Gibbons the son of an Irish peat cutter perhaps? No. Gibbons is the son of Hugh Gibbons, a Fianna Fail TD.

But then the oaf Rhodri was no street kid from Bogota. Rhodri grew up in one of the few middle class parts of south Wales – Radyr. Rhodri’s parents went to Swansea University when a university education was a real privilege and they both stayed on for postgraduate work. His mother was a school teacher and his dad was an academic who knew Saunders Lewis and one couldn’t find a more elitist man than Saunders Lewis. Rhodri’s father became very senior in the University of Wales and their neighbours and associates when Rhodri was growing up included Hilary Marquand, the Cabinet Minister in Attlee’s Gov’t and his son David – who later became a Labour MP – and Arthur Jenkins, the father of Roy Jenkins.

One of Rhodri’s grandfathers was a local big wig and it was partly as a result of his grandfather’s network that Rhodri’s political career got off the ground.

When I used to watch Rhodri on TV and nothing at all intelligent came out of his mouth, because I knew that he had been to Oxford and Harvard, I always presumed that there must be a brain in there somewhere and that Rhodri just didn’t give a bugger for social niceties. Having taken a closer look at Rhodri’s background and activities, I have revised my opinion. There wasn’t a brain in there and the notion of Rhodri’s ‘eccentricity’ was constructed to conceal the reality that this was a privileged complete meathead who knew nothing, did nothing, treated people with complete contempt and was only interested in downing pints. But at least he wasn’t Blair or Alun Michael so he was tolerated as the least worst option. If I’d known all this on the day that Rhodri Morgan was rude to me when I met him at the Senedd, I’d have emptied a bucket of slops over his head. People died because of that fool.

One thing about old Rhodri was that he made damn sure that he and his own didn’t suffer at the hands of the tosspots whom he protected. The Labour Party in Wales had a disaster in the 2005 General Election after a ‘sub-committee of Welsh Labour’s Executive’ imposed an all- women shortlist on Blaenau Gwent. It meant that the popular local candidate Peter Law was elbowed out in favour of Maggie Jones, a senior UNISON official deemed acceptable to Blair. Peter Law stood as an Independent and the voters of Blaenau Gwent delivered a crippling kick in the carregs to the Labour Party and voted for Peter Law rather than Maggie Jones. Labour had lost one of its safest seats. Peter Law was diagnosed with a brain tumour whilst he was fighting the 2005 General Election and sadly died in 2006. Rhodri’s book reveals that Peter Law was treated at Velindre and gained preferential access to drugs unavailable to other NHS patients in Wales because Rhodri’s office sorted it. Readers will know that I take the view that a great many such cancer drugs offer false hope and are probably not worth trying anyway, but most MPs with cancer don’t know that. They are dying and frightened and quite understandably if they hear that a drug is available which will give them another three months, they usually want it. And unlike their constituents they get it, even if Rhodri’s office has to facilitate it.

But Rhodri had a track record for this sort of thing. When his elderly mother needed treatment for a problem which was causing her to lose her eye-sight and the waiting list was enormous – of course it was, Jane fucking Hutt was Health Minister – Rhodri’s heart was touched when his old mam said that she couldn’t possibly go private what with her son being the Labour FM. Mrs Morgan didn’t go private either. Rhodri discovered that as a result of the notion that certain hospitals in Wales should specialise in certain treatments, the treatment that his mam needed was the responsibility of Ysbyty Gwynedd. I bet the Morgans collectively crapped themselves at the idea of Mam risking her neck with that lot. So what happened? Well it was conveniently discovered that poor old Mrs M was so frail that she wouldn’t survive the journey to Bangor, so she had the work done in Bridgend.

I knew one of the eye surgeons in Ysbyty Gwynedd. He and his family lived in Menai Bridge and there was much trouble because his wife was a highly aggressive South African who had a problem with the rest of the world and was at war with the whole of the town. They had been living abroad so no-one knew them when they arrived in Menai Bridge and being Menai Bridge everyone tripped over themselves to hobnob with them because he was the new eye surgeon. Mrs Eye Surgeon told everybody that she was an interior designer and claimed to have an outstanding academic record from a South African university. Sadly Mrs Eye Surgeon was a fantasist and none of it was true. Then came the screaming rows with local tradesmen and the mad accusations levelled at just about everyone. What a lot of people did not know about however was the close relative of Mr Eye Surgeon who was a sex offender, who lived locally and was known to be a risk to young people. Was this family subject to the usual bigotry and leaks from the ‘services’? Of course they weren’t. A suspected abusive situation in the family was ignored and when it could be ignored no longer was concealed by the NHS, the social services, the police and the probation service…

Of course Rhodri’s Mam wasn’t going to be operated on at Ysbyty Gwynedd, they were only there to treat the plebs.

Towards the end of his book, Rhodri mentions that the one thing that he was proudest of achieving during his time as FM was the Children’s Rights Measure, ie. the incorporation of the UN rights of the child into all the laws and actions of the Welsh Gov’t. Implemented by the paedophiles’ friends sitting in the Assembly.

Rhodri’s book comes with photos. There’s a nice one of Rhodri launching the European Year of Disabled People in 2003.

The last words in Rhodri’s book are ‘I’m doing alright’. Yes Rhodri, you were. The country was wrecked and the ‘services’ were endemically corrupt and run by a gang of criminals who had achieved their positions by facilitating a major sex trafficking ring. But you and the fuckwit Julie were absolutely fine.

As Dylan Thomas would say, Time passes.

So what is in the Welsh news today?

There is an investigation into the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board charity Awyr Las. It transpires that the funds have been ‘misused’ and Llyr Huws Gruffydd the Plaid AM has said that people will be shocked at what has been going on. No they won’t Llyr, it’s exactly what everybody would have expected, this is not the first scandal in which Awyr Las has been mired, one of my first posts for this blog was an Awyr Las scandal. Misuse of the funds would you believe. I dunno what Mike Peters thinks is happening to all that dosh that he raises for Awyr Las when he walks up Snowdon and strums his guitar, but he and Jules should know by now that it won’t find its way to a worthy cause, this is the NHS in north Wales that we are talking about.

A distressed father has thrown himself in front of a train in north Wales and his family have said that help for him came ‘too late’.

A group of Wrexham GPs have handed their contracts back to the Betsi and shut shop. So there’s a few more thousand patients without a GP. Not that it will matter to many of them, at least they won’t be badgered into pointless ‘screening’ appointments which throw up false positives constantly or be led up the garden path by being told that to ‘access mental health services’ they ‘just need to talk to their GP’. It is a great shame for the patients who are ill but the chances are that they’d just be told that their conditions are their own fault anyway because they are too fat/too old/haven’t eaten their five a day/taken fresh air etc. Look on the bright side Vaughan, you’ll save a fortune on Top Docs salaries. Although of course if you hadn’t have given them such huge pension pots they wouldn’t be able to retire at 55 after having a hissy fit.

The Blessing has stated that he is ‘the bridge to the future’. Christ almighty, as Leonard Cohen sang ‘I have seen the future and it is murder’. I look forward to The Sun’s headline on the day that Carwyn has his leaving do – ‘Would the last person to leave Wales please turn off the light’.

I’ve been very busy reading Ronnie Waterhouse’s autobiography recently and marvelling at his capacity for sucking up to posh people, but I have managed to do a bit more reading of historical Plaid material and I’ve come across a paedophiles’ friend who had completely escaped my attention. A pal of Dafydd and Gwynne’s – Dr Dafydd Huws, who ‘kept Plaid together’ during ‘difficult years’.

Huws worked as a psychiatrist and became Clinical Director of South Glamorgan psychiatry service.  Huws’s responsibilities ‘ranged from the treatment of the severely disturbed to preparation of evidence for court cases’. So he was framing people who were witnesses to the paedophile ring then. Huws worked at Cardiff’s Whitchurch Hospital, famous for having the highest use of ECT in Europe and for being the employer of Dr Chris Hunter, a key player in the attempts to have me banged up on the evidence of the paedophiles’ friends without my knowledge (see post ‘The Night Of The (Dr Chris) Hunter’). Hunter also presided over the violence, the corruption and the murders at Ashworth Hospital (see post ‘Security, Security’). Dafydd Huws knew about it all. Despite the pressure of work involved in stitching up the victims of sex offenders, Dafydd Huws found time during his lunch break to prepare for Plaid Cymru executive meetings.  Which suggests that those lunch breaks were very generous.

Dafydd Huws was the first Plaid Councillor on Cardiff Council in 1969 and he contested Cardiff West against George Thomas, fighting the 1970 and the two 1974 General Elections. If Dafydd Huws had admitted that George Thomas was molesting young boys, George Thomas would not have held that seat for decades. But no-one said a word and Dafydd Huws will have been one of those calling George Thomas’s victims liars and declaring them ‘disturbed’. Huws also stood for Ceredigion in 1979 and Cardiff in 1983 and for the South Wales constituency in the European Parliament elections in 1984.

Dafydd Huws was Chairman of Plaid throughout the 1980s. Peak paedophile years.

After leaving medicine Dafydd Huws farmed near Ceredigion. Huws and his wife Rhian founded Ynni Amgen Cyf company and was responsible for one of the first wind farms in Wales on Mynydd Gorddu near Tal-y-Bont in Ceredigion.

I would be interested to know if the dreadful Rhiannon Huws Williams, former CEO of the Care Council for Wales, is any relation of Dafydd Huws. Paedophiles’ friends of this order are frequently members of the same extended family and Rhiannon has done as much to protect the paedophiles of north Wales as Lord Wyn Roberts did.

A Bit More Paleontology

I’ve been digging up fossils from Aberystwyth for the last two weeks or so. I have been meaning to do this for a long time, because during the course of my blogging I could not fail to notice how many corrupt lawyers and judges who had been great friends to the paedophiles of north Wales and their friends were graduates of Aberystwyth. I hadn’t noticed this until I began the blog, I think because I have known one or two excellent lawyers who trained at Aber and I always believed that the institutionalised corruption that I witnessed was emanating from rather more exalted locations than Aberystwyth. When I did notice how many names on this blog were Aber graduates I presumed that was simply a function of much of the material on this blog being concerned with shenanigans in a Welsh context, so naturally there’d be a lot of people who were educated at Welsh universities involved. Then I realised that even that didn’t account for the sheer number of Aber grads involved – and some of those Aber grads had come from obscure rural locations in Wales but nonetheless had made it into the highest echelons of the legal profession and had ended up sitting in the Garrick with the best, such as Sir William Mars-Jones for example. In fact, in the case of some, it was argued that their stratospheric rise from poverty in Wales demonstrated that snobbery at the Bar was a thing of the past and that anyone could make it as a Law Lord. No, the UK hasn’t ever quite achieved that degree of social mobility – but this blog has shown quite clearly that people who did favours for the paedophiles’ friends often did very well for themselves.

I decided to get on with digging up fossils asap when I received an e mail two weeks ago alleging that one night during the Christmas holiday of 1971/72, a man called William Hines arrived at his lodgings in Christ Church, Cambridge late one night soaking wet and looking for shelter. I was told that William Hines had volunteered with the Sue Ryder organisation in the early 70s, alongside one Richard D. North. There have been allegations that patients were abused and may have even died in the care of the charities run by Sue Ryder and her husband Leonard Cheshire, that appropriate investigations were not conducted and that there was a cover-up at DHSS level involving Secretary of State Barbara Castle and her then minion Jack Straw. Richard D. North is a writer associated with the Institute of Economic Affairs who has staunchly backed Richard Webster’s interpretation of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal ie. that the children’s homes in north Wales in the latter half of the twentieth century were rather mediocre but were not the sites of serious abuse and that the allegations that they were resulted from accusations made by people who had been affected by false memory syndrome after ‘therapy’, or who were just after financial compensation. No-one who lived in north Wales during the years in question who had first hand experience of the social services or mental health services could ever believe Webster’s theory.

I was also told that not only had a volunteer at Sue Ryder’s establishment mysteriously drowned one night in the early 1970s, but it was alleged that William Hines had been interviewed by police about the death but had misled them and perjured himself at the Jan 1972 inquest of the volunteer who drowned. I was told that William Hines had been both an in-patient and out-patient at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridgeshire. Fulbourn gained a lot of good publicity under the leadership of Dr Edward Beresford Davies and acquired a reputation for being a forward thinking establishment which excelled in psychotherapy rather than simply banging up and drugging patients. One of the nurses at the Hergest Unit trained at Fulbourn. She was certainly very much better than her colleagues, but she did know at least some of what they were up to – but she never spoke up. This nurse was completely shafted by her senior managers eventually, because I suspect she was indeed so much better than her colleagues and they felt threatened by her. Her good practice was showing them up for the abusers that they were. I have now been told that as with other ‘groundbreaking initiatives’ in mental health, Beresford Davies and Fulbourn were not quite all that they were cracked up to be.

I have been told that William Hines later worked as a librarian at Aberystwyth University. A volume entitled ‘English Legal History: A Bibliography and Guide to the Literature’ (1990) appeared on Aber’s reading list for students undertaking the ‘history of crime and punishment’ module some two years ago. It is co-authored by William Hines, Richard Ireland, Philip Rawlings and C.P. Rodgers. I have been told that the co-author of this book is the same William Hines who volunteered at Sue Ryder in the early 70s.

Whether the allegations that have been levelled at William Hines are true or not I do not know. But I do believe that there was something or someone who for many years was corrupting law students at Aberystwyth. It won’t have simply been the influence of one bad egg, there will have been a network of people with connections at Aber who were inducting certain students into corrupt practices over a long period of time. Some of the graduates involved are now dead – they were people who studied at Aber decades ago, but others graduated much more recently. For a problem like this to have persisted, there will have been collusion at the top of the institution, as Sir Charles Evans colluded with the paedophiles’ friends who were employed at UCNW (which became Bangor University) for so long. So let’s dig up a few old fossils from Aberystwyth and examine them…

From its establishment, what is now Aberystwyth University has had both a President and a Principal/Vice-Chancellor. For much of its existence Aber was a member college of the University of Wales, so other important figures were the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales.

The University College Wales, Aberystwyth was founded in 1872. It became part of the University of Wales in 1893 and then became known as the University College of Wales, Abersytwyth. The first President, from 1872 to 1895, was Henry Bruce, the 1st Baron Aberdare.

Henry Bruce was a barrister, Liberal politician and industrialist. He was born in Aberdare, the son of a landowner. After he qualified as a barrister, coal was discovered under the land of the family estates and they became immensely rich. Bruce was a magistrate in Methyr Tydfil and Aberdare 1847-54 and in 1854 was elected Liberal MP for Methyr Tydfil. His reputation was damaged by the Aberdare Strike 1857-8 and it is thought that this contributed to him losing his seat in 1868. Bruce was re-elected again in 1889 in Renfrewshire and William Gladstone appointed him Home Secretary, a post that he retained until at Gladstone’s request he relinquished it in 1873, when he received a peerage and became Lord President of the Council.

After the defeat of Gladstone’s Gov’t in 1874, education became one of Henry Bruce’s principal interests. Not only was he President of Aber, but in 1883 he also became the first President of the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire (which later became Cardiff University). He was appointed as the first Chancellor of the University of Wales in 1893. In 1888 Bruce headed the Commission that established the Official Table of Drops, which provided guidance as to the distance required to effectively kill someone by hanging. Bruce also showed a keen interest in the drinking habits of the working classes and at one point took evidence concerning this matter from miners and railway workers. Whilst Lord Aberdare preoccupied himself thus, his wife Lady Aberdare was busy promoting education for women (both Bangor and Aberystwyth admitted a higher proportion of women students from their very beginning than many other English colleges or universities). Lady Aberdare was a key mover in the establishment of Aberdare Hall in Cardiff, a women’s hall of residence. Lord Aberdare died at his London home in 1895.

The first Principal of the College – 1872-91 -was Thomas Charles Edwards. Edwards was born near Bala and was the son of Lewis Edwards, the founder of the Bala Theological College. His mother was the granddaughter of Thomas Charles, the organiser of Welsh Calvinistic Methodism. Edwards was educated at his father’s college at Bala, at St Alban Hall, Oxford and at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 1856 he began preaching with the Presbytarian Church of Wales. He became a preacher at two Liverpool chapels and was recognised as one of the leading preachers of his generation. He resigned from his position at Aberystwyth in 1881 partly for health reasons but also to follow his father as head of the Bala Theological College. He died at Bala in 1900.

The second Principal was Thomas Francis Roberts, who was born at Aberdyfi and went to school at Tywyn. Roberts went to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth himself to study and won a scholarship to St John’s College, Oxford. He became the first Professor of Greek at the newly created University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. Thomas Roberts was a key figure in the establishment of the University of Wales.

Four years after Thomas Roberts was appointed Principal, the second President of Aber succeeded Lord Aberdare in 1895. That was Stuart Rendel, 1st Baron Rendel of Hatchlands in Surrey, who remained as President until 1913. Rendel was an industrialist, philanthropist and Liberal politician who was educated at Eton and Oxford. He was also a barrister, but was mostly involved in engineering – he was manager of the London branch of the Armstrong Gunnery Company. Rendel was elected as the Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire in 1880 and although he had been born in Plymouth he was known as the ‘Welsh member’ because of his support for Welsh causes, such as the establishment of the University of Wales. He was a benefactor to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. Rendel was acknowledged as being the leader of the Welsh MPs in Parliament. He was an Anglican and a close friend and associate of William Gladstone. Rendel received a peerage in 1894. Rendel’s daughter Maud married Henry, William Gladstone’s son. Later in life Rendel retired to his stately home in Surrey and died in 1913 at his London home in Kensington Palace Gardens.

In 1913 Sir John Williams 1st Baronet of the City of London became President. Many senior figures at Aberystwyth University have also been involved with the National Library of Wales, an excellent collection housed in an impressive building in Aberystwyth in close proximity to the Penglais campus of the University. People familiar with previous blog posts will also know that the paedophiles’ friends had a penchant for involvement with the National Library. This is not a reflection upon the library’s collections, it is rather that a role in the governance of the National Library – like a role in the governance of the National Museum of Wales – provides a great deal of kudos for some people and the paedophiles’ friends do like a bit of prestige. Sir John Williams played a key role in ensuring that the National Library was located in Aberystwyth years before he became President of the College. In 1905 the Gov’t proposed to establish both a National Library and a National Museum of Wales. David Lloyd George – then the Liberal MP for Caernarvon Boroughs – wanted the National Library to be located in Aberystwyth, but there was also a contingent who wanted the National Library to be in Cardiff. A huge scrap followed and Sir John Williams – a Top Doctor and the proud possessor of a fantastic collections of manuscripts – offered to donate this collection to the National Library if it were located in Aberystwyth. It was therefore agreed that the National Library would be situated at Aberystwyth and that Cardiff could have the National Museum. In 1907 a Royal Charter was established stating that Sir John’s collection would become the property of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth if the National Library was ever removed from Aber. Sir John also bequeathed a large sum of money to the National Library of Wales. The Sword of Damocles hanging over that Library would certainly ensure that it never got up and walked off to Cardiff. Sir John’s collection was the Peniarth collection, which contains wonderful things of global significance which are very dear to Welsh historians and scholars, the most valuable manuscripts in the Library, including the Four Ancient Books of Wales. So that is how the National Library ended up in Aberystwyth and remains there today. The Foundation stone of the National Library was laid by King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. Two years later Sir John was President of the College.

So who was Sir John Williams? A man from Aberystwyth perhaps? No. Sir John Williams was from south Wales, the son of a Welsh Congregationalist Minister. Williams went to school in Swansea, then to university in Glasgow and then undertook his medical training at University College Hospital in London. He must have been based in London for a good many years, because he would have been needed for a famous patient of his – this Top Doctor was physician to Queen Victoria and had been appointed to that role in 1886, long before there was talk of a National Library in Wales yet alone any plans by Lloyd George as to how to ensure that it was located in Aber. It was Queen Victoria who raised Williams to the Baronetcy in 1894. Williams is described as a surgeon obstetrician, so I’m wondering if he was the Top Doctor who famously administered chloroform to Queen Victoria helping to break the custom of women being denied pain relief during childbirth – a custom that has been sadly reintroduced in recent years by a contingent of people who misunderstood the childbirth campaigners of the early 1980s when they raised concerns regarding unnecessary interventions.

For part of his life Sir John lived at Plas Llansteffan, a mansion in Carmarthenshire which he leased from the Morris family who were bankers.

In 2005 Sir John’s name reared its head again following the publication of book called ‘Uncle Jack’ by Tony Williams and Humphrey Price. That book certainly upset a lot of people – it suggested that Sir John Williams might have been Jack the Ripper.

The official history of the National Library tells us that the National Library and National Museum of Wales were established after a collection was held during which thousands of working class people donated their hard earned pennies. That was no doubt true, working people in Wales made sacrifices to support many educational and cultural institutions – but I suspect that the real movers and shakers behind the National Library were Lloyd George and Queen Victoria’s surgeon. Sir John Williams may or may not have been Jack the Ripper but being the President of a University College obviously appealed to him.

I cannot help wondering if it was the arrival on the scene of this Top Doctor that was the beginning of the problem in Aberystwyth.

John Humphreys Davies was the Principal of the College whilst Sir John Williams was President. John Davies was a lawyer, bibliographer and educator. He was born in Ceredigion, attended his local village school, then Lewis’s School Pengam, then University College School, London. Davies studied at the College in Aber himself, then at Lincoln College, Oxford and was called to the Bar. Davies entered public life at a very young age – he was elected Alderman of Cardiganshire County Council at 23 years of age, although he wasn’t actually a member of the authority itself. There was some support for him that year to stand as the Liberal candidate for Cardiganshire, although he did not win the nomination. He was a JP for the county of Cardiganshire and Treasurer of the General Assembly of the Calvinist Methodist connexion before he was 30. In 1905 Davies became Registrar of the College at Aber. He was appointed a member of the Welsh Church Commission in 1908, the High Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1911 and the Chairman of Cardiganshire County Council in 1916/17. Davies was appointed Principal of Aber in 1919 – he remained in the post until he died in 1926.

I note that Davies was involved in the campaign to establish a National Library for Wales – he was working on this with Sir John Williams long before either of them were appointed to the most senior positions in the College.

John Davies’s interest in education is attributed to the influence of a group of friends of his at Oxford, many of whom became very influential in Welsh life. Two were particularly important where Davies was concerned – Sir O.M. Edwards and T.E. Ellis.

Owen Morgan Edwards was a historian, educationist and writer. He was born at Llanuwchllyn near Bala, went to the Bala Theological College, then the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, spent one year at Glasgow University and then Balliol College, Oxford. O.M. Edwards was the first Chief Inspector of Schools for Wales in the new Welsh Education Department. O.M. Edwards was keen to ensure that children were taught Welsh at school – he was of the generation who were beaten for speaking Welsh at school. Edwards also established a number of Welsh language periodicals and wrote a number of books on Welsh history. Sir O.M. Edwards’s son, Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards attended Bala Grammar School, University College of Wales, Aber and Lincoln College, Oxford. He taught at Dolgellau Grammar School and at University College of Wales, Aber and edited the journals that his father had established after O.M. Edwards died. Sir Ifan was a Director of Television Wales and West and was involved in establishing the Welsh school at Aberystwyth. He was also a magistrate. Sir Ifan established the Urdd Gobaith Cymru (the Welsh League of Youth), a popular Welsh children’s and youth movement. Sir Ifan was awarded the Medal of the Honorable Society of Cymmrodorion. O.M. Edwards’s daughter married Sir David Hughes-Parry, who was President of the College in Aberystwyth himself, 1955-64. There are statues of Sir O.M and Sir Ifan at Llanuwchllyn.

T.E. Ellis was born near Bala and attended Bala Grammar School along with his contemporary O.M. Edwards. T.E. Ellis went on to the University College at Aber, then to New College, Oxford. He became the Liberal MP for Merioneth and Gladstone later appointed him Chief Whip. T.E. Ellis too helped secure the National Library. He carried out much educational administrative work for Wales, including for Merioneth and was a member of the Court of the University of Wales. T.E. Ellis became the brother-in-law of John Humphreys Davies. A statue of T.E. Ellis stands in the High Street in Bala and there is also a statue of him in the quadrangle of Aberystwyth University.

In 1926, Aberystwyth saw a new President appointed and in 1927 welcomed a new Principal. The new President was Lord Edmund-Davies and the new Principal was Henry Stewart-Jones.

Lord Edmund-Davies was born Herbert Edmund Edmund Davies. He was a lawyer and a judge who was born in modest circumstances in Mountain Ash in 1906. He was from a Welsh nonconformist background and attended Mountain Ash Grammar School, then King’s College, London and then Exeter College, Oxford. At Exeter College, Edmund Davies was a pupil of Geoffrey Cheshire, the Bursar of Exeter College, who was the father of Leonard Cheshire. Edmund Davies had a long connection with Leonard Cheshire and the Leonard Cheshire Homes – where it is alleged residents were abused. Before WWII Edmund Davies was a junior barrister based in Swansea. After the war – during which he served with the Royal Welch Fuseliers – he became a lead barrister ‘with a formidable reputation’. Edmund Davies was a Recorder in Methyr Tydfil 1942-44; in Swansea 1944-53 and in Cardiff 1953-58. He was Chair of the Denbighshire Quarter Sessions 1953-64. So he will have been trying patients from – and incarcerating patients in – the North Wales Hospital Denbigh during the Dafydd and Gwynne years of lobotomies and paedophiles. Edmund Davies was sitting as a judge in north Wales at a time when the lawyers and judges in the region were known to be corrupt. Edmund Davies wasn’t a corrupt Aber law graduate himself – he was President of the College which had begun churning them out.

In 1958 he became a High Court judge and thus metamorphosed into Sir Edmund Davies. Even for the time his sentencing was controversial on the grounds of its harshness. He presided over the trial of the Great Train Robbers in 1964 at Aylesbury – that sentence was criticised on the grounds that if other judges followed suit, robbers would be more likely to kill people during the course of their crime because the sentence that they will receive will be as long as a sentence for murder. Edmund Davies was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in 1966 and in 1967 he was appointed by Secretary of State for Wales Cledwyn Hughes to Chair the Public Inquiry into the Aberfan Disaster. In 1974 he became a Law Lord and received a peerage. In 1977 Lord Edmund-Davies was appointed by Merlyn Rees – the Home Secretary under Jim Callaghan’s Labour Gov’t – to Chair the Commission into the negotiation of police pay and conditions. There had been serious police recruitment problems in England and Wales as a result of low pay. Edmund-Davies reported in July 1978 and recommended a 45% pay rise. The Police Federation were delighted although Edmund-Davies’s recommendations had left politicians in a difficult situation. The recommendations were implemented by the Tory Gov’t in 1979. The Police Federation have held Gov’ts to Edmund-Davies’s regime ever since.

Edmund-Davies was one of the judges involved in the jailing of Denis Lemon, the Editor of ‘Gay News’ in 1979. ‘Gay News’ had published a poem suggesting that Jesus might have been gay and Mary Whitehouse brought a prosecution for blasphemy against the paper. Edmund-Davies was one of the judges who dismissed Lemon’s appeal – whilst a paedophile ring targeting boys in care operated in the children’s homes run by Clwyd and Gwynedd Social Services in north Wales, facilitated by the North Wales Hospital Denbigh.

Edmund-Davies was ‘interested in penal reform’ and was a member of the Royal Commission on Penal Reform. Obviously an excellent choice if one wants to ensure that consenting adults are jailed for writing about the possibility that someone might be gay, whilst a paedophile ring with connections to organised crime conducts business unhindered.

Edmund-Davies retired as a Law Lord in 1981. Between 1975-84 he was Pro-Chancellor of the University of Wales. So Edmund-Davies was occupying that position when UCNW (now Bangor University) – a constituent college of the University of Wales – were employing Gwynne the lobotomist in their Student Health Centre, as well as the corrupt GP Dr D.G.E. Wood, who in 1984 began threatening me after I complained about Gwynne. Edmund-Davies was succeeded as Pro-Chancellor by Cledwyn Hughes aka Lord Cledwyn, a good friend of the paedophiles’ friends – see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’ for the low-down on Cledwyn and his network. Cledwyn himself was a law graduate of Aber.  Cledwyn was President of University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1977-85 and President of the University of Wales, Bangor, 1995-2000.

Lord Edmund-Davies was also a member of the Criminal Law Revision Committee; a life Governor and fellow of King’s College London; an honorary fellow of Exeter College, Oxford and was at one time the Treasurer of Gray’s Inn. He lived at Gray’s Inn until his health failed and he moved into a care home.

Edmund-Davies’s obituary in the ‘Independent’ intriguingly discussed how he would ‘often labour over a sandwich in his room to prepare for a judgement to be given that afternoon or at night over a judgement to be delivered the next morning’. The same obituary mentioned that Edmund-Davies was delighted when he became a Law Lord because life was so much easier – obviously no more labouring over sandwiches, just troughing in the Lords – but by the age of 75 ‘he had had enough’. It takes it out of one ignoring a paedophile ring.

Lord Edmund-Davies was a leading light in another institution that some of those previously named on this blog really love -the London Welsh Society (originally the London Welsh Association, then the London Welsh Trust), which runs the London Welsh Centre. The London Welsh Society was established to provide social and political opportunities for Welsh people living in London – it was originally known as the Young Wales Association. It runs the London Welsh Centre on Gray’s Inn Road in Camden which hosts choirs, Welsh language classes and is used as a community venue. The Young Wales Association was founded in 1920 at a meeting over which Dame Margaret Lloyd George – first wife of David Lloyd George – presided. Dame Margaret became the first President of the Young Wales Association (1921-22). There are plenty of people associated with the London Welsh Society – and who send their children to the associated London Welsh School – who are normal, but it does attract those with connections to others we know and love and some of them enjoy running it. As well as Dame Margaret Lloyd George, past Presidents include: David Lloyd George MP; R. Hopkin Morris (1936-37); Lord James Atkin (1936-37); Sir Wynn Wheldon (1946-47); Lord Justice Morris (1951-53); Sir Ben Bowen Thomas (1953-55); Lord Ogmore (1955-59); Lord Aberdare; Lord Elwyn-Davies (1982-88); Sir William Mars-Jones (1988-94); Sir Maldwyn Thomas (1994-2001); Lord Morris of Aberavon (2001-08); Huw Edwards (2008-present).

Some of these people have already appeared on this blog in their capacity as paedophiles friends. There are aspects of all the biographies which are familiar.

Owen Picton Davies was one of the founders of the YWA. He was a Liberal Parliamentary candidate, involved with medical care and was the High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire, 1934-35.

Rhys Hopkin Morris: a graduate of UCNW (Bangor University), barrister and magistrate, the first regional director of BBC in Wales, Liberal MP.

Lord James Atkin: a lawyer and High Court judge, Lord Justice of Appeal and a Law Lord; attended Friars School in Bangor; Prime Minister Asquith’s son Raymond was a pupil in Atkin’s chambers. Atkin’s grandson was Tory peer Toby Low aka Lord Aldington who sued the arse of historian Nicolai Tolstoy after Tolstoy accused him of atrocities in WWII. The atrocities did happen but Aldington claimed that he knew nuzzing.

Clement Davies: barrister; Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire 1929-62 and leader of the Liberal Party 1945-56; President, Welsh Liberal Federation 1945-48.

Lord Ogmore aka David Rees-Williams: solicitor; Labour MP for Croydon South 1945-50; joined Liberal Party in 1959, Liberal Party President 1963-64. Daughter Elizabeth married former Tory MP and jailbird Jonathan Aitken.

Lord Aberdare aka Morys Bruce: Conservative politician with an hereditary peerage. Worked for the BBC, 1949-56; Minister of State in the DHSS, 1970.

Sir Maldwyn Thomas: businessman and lawyer; President of Welsh Liberal Party 1985-86; Trustee of London Welsh School.

Lord John Morris: law graduate of Aberystwyth; also graduate of Cambridge University; Labour MP for Aberavon 1959-2001; Secretary of State for Wales 1974-79; Attorney General 1997-99; Chancellor of University of Glamorgan, then University of South Wales. Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, 2002. Has been a real gift to the paedophiles’ friends – see previous blog posts for details.

Sir Wynn Wheldon: lawyer in Lloyd George’s chambers and good friend of Lloyd George. An educationist. Father of Huw Wheldon, former pupil of Friars School in Bangor, Mr Big at the BBC and the Arts Council in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. President of the Royal Television Society, Governor of LSE and Bangor University. Was networked to the paedophiles’ friends. For further details re Huw Wheldon and his wife, see comments which follow blog post ‘Wheels Within Wheels Or Flies Drawn To The Same Incestuously Corrupt Shithouse?’.

Sir Ben Bowen Thomas: the first Warden of Coleg Harlech, later the President of University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Sir William Mars-Jones: William Jones – as he was – was the son of a Denbighshire farmer. Mars-Jones’s father was Chairman of Denbighshire County Council. Mars-Jones went to Denbigh School, then read law at Aberystwyth. Whilst he was at Aberystwyth, Mars-Jones was President of the Students’ Council and the Central Students’ Council. He then went to St John’s College, Cambridge – at Cambridge he was active in Footlights. After WWII Mars-Jones stood as the Labour candidate for West Denbigh. Mars-Jones was a barrister on the corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit and became the Presiding judge of that Circuit. In 1964 he headed a Home Office Inquiry into allegations against police officers. Mars-Jones Chaired the Home Secretary’s Advisory Council on the Penal System in 1966 and in the same year was the prosecuting Counsel at the trial of the Moors Murderers. Mars-Jones worked as a Recorder in Birkenhead, Swansea and Cardiff from 1968. He was the Deputy Chair of the Denbigh Quarter Sessions, 1962-68. Mars-Jones became a High Court judge in 1969. He was a leading light in the Garrick. Mars-Jones was President of UCNW (later Bangor University), 1982-95. So he was President whilst the College employed Gwynne the lobotomist in the Student Health Centre as well as the corrupt Dr D.G.E. Wood and whilst Dafydd wielded power and influence in the psychology dept. Mars-Jones could hardly have missed what they were all doing – he’d known many of the paedophiles’ friends from his school days.

William Mars-Jones is the father of Adam Mars-Jones, the famously gay writer. Adam Mars-Jones wrote a book about his father, which claimed that William Mars-Jones was enormously homophobic. Most of those who facilitated the paedophile ring in north Wales which targeted young boys were.

BBC News Wales in October 2015 reported on the establishment of the Lord Edmund-Davies Legal Education Trust, a charitable fund ‘run by Welsh barristers in London’, to assist outstanding young lawyers. The BBC named Rhys Meggy as a Trustee. The notion of ‘Welsh barristers in London’ rang alarm bells for me, so I popped over to visit the website of the Legal Education Trust’s website. I found myself in familiar territory. The website currently features a gallery of photos of folk from the Association of London Welsh Lawyers. Those in the gallery are: Winston Roddick QC: a man who was born, grew up and went to school in Caernarfon, became a police officer in Liverpool, then a barrister and Recorder. He was the first Counsel General for Wales, appointed in 1997 and advised in the Welsh Language Act 1993. Roddick has been a member of the Independent Television Commission, a member of the S4C authority and is a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards. He was the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner having stood for election as an Independent whilst being a member of the Lib Dems but failed to tell anyone. Meri Huws: Meri is not even a lawyer – she is a graduate of Aberystwyth and a former community social worker who worked for Gwynedd Social Services whilst the paedophile ring raged within; she is now Welsh Language Commissioner and is the former bedfellow of a number of people who have occupied influential positions in Welsh politics (see post ‘Let Me Enlighten Lord Gnome…’); Lord Morris of Aberavon: the paedophiles’ friends’ helper; Elfyn Llwyd: an Aber law graduate, barrister, former President of Gwynedd Law Society and former Plaid MP for Meirionydd – throughout the years when Plaid dominated Gwynedd County Council at a time when the paedophile ring operated within the Social Services run by Gwynedd County Council and was ignored and/or facilitated by lawyers in Gwynedd.

The Legal Education Trust’s website provides details of a few of the events which they have held and those who attended. At the Annual Dinner in 2017, special guests were Counsel General for Wales Mick Antinow AM and Lord David Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court. The 2017 Annual Lecture was given by Mr Justice Lewis, the Presiding Judge of Wales. The speaker at the Annual Dinner in 2016 was Robert Buckland QC MP. The speaker at the 2014 Annual Dinner was this blog’s old friend Lord Alex Carlile. Another star of previous events was Lord Justice Pill, the judge who in 1990 ignored the criminal activities of the north Wales mental health services when Gwynedd Health Authority applied for a High Court injunction against me – to prevent me writing to them in pursuit of my complaint about those criminal activities (see post ‘Some Big Legal Names Enter The Arena’). Other events hosted by the Legal Education Trust starred H.H.J. Milwyn Jarman QC and Keith Bush from the National Assembly for Wales.

The Principal of Aber for the first few years under Lord Edmund-Davies’s presidency was Henry Stuart-Jones – he was Principal between 1927-34. Stuart-Jones was a fellow of Trinity College, Oxford and was Professor of Ancient History there. He was new to Wales when he took up the position at Aber. He learned Welsh and sat on the Committees of St David’s College, Lampeter; Trinity College, Carmarthen and the National Library of Wales. Stuart-Jones was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, 1929-30. In 1929 he was elected as a Welsh supernumerary fellow of Jesus College, Oxford.

Stuart-Jones was succeeded as Principal by Ifor Leslie Evans, who remained in the post until he died in 1952. He was the son of musician William John Evans and learnt Welsh whilst he was interned in Ruhleben prison in Germany during WWI. After WWI he studied at St John’s College, Cambridge. Ifor Evans sat on the League of Nations Commission reporting on the circumstances of Austria and was a member of staff on the Economist. During his time as Principal, Ifor Evans ‘substantially’ reduced the College’s debt, attracted benefactors, built the Penglais campus and Pantycelyn Hall of residence. He strengthened the relationships between the staff and the students and Chaired the University of Wales Press Board. (The University of Wales Press Board is another favoured destination for figures in the network that I am discussing.)

The President who followed Lord Edmund-Davies was Thomas Jones, known as Tom Jones, frequently referred to as ‘T.J.’ T.J. was President of Aber between 1944-54 – he was said to be ‘one of the six most important men in Europe’ and was referred to as the ‘King of Wales’. T.J. was born in Rhymney, Monmouthshire. The family did speak Welsh, although a lot of English was spoken in their household. Although T.J.’s grandfather made him leave school at 14 to work as a clerk in a local ironworks. T.J. became a well-known preacher and in 1890 went to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth to study for the Ministry. However he transferred to Glasgow University where he read economics. He pursued an academic career and became Professor of Economics at Queen’s University, Belfast.

T.J. returned to Wales and directed the public health campaign regarding TB. He then carried out Lloyd George’s great reform in Wales when he became head of National Insurance in Wales. Lloyd George created a Secretariat under Lord (then Sir) Maurice Hankey and appointed T.J. as second in command of this Secretariat. This Secretariat/Ministry was viewed with suspicion – T.J.’s role was as a behind the scenes negotiator. T.J. thus acquired enormous influence via this office, which evolved into the office of Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet – T.J. remained Deputy Secretary under Bonar Law and Stanley Baldwin, but resigned under  Ramsay MacDonald, before the formation of the National Gov’t in 1931.

T.J.’s senior colleague, the First Cabinet Secretary, the ‘top aide’ to LLoyd George, was Lord Maurice Hankey. Like T.J., Hankey served under Lloyd George, Bonar Law, Stanley Baldwin and Ramsay MacDonald, but Hankey also served under Neville Chamberlain. Hankey has been described as a ‘late Victorian Imperialist’. He was Secretary of Lloyd George’s War Cabinet and Secretary to the Imperial War Cabinet of the First World War. After WWII Hankey was critical of the war crimes trials and argued that the Allies had no right to convict Germans and Japanese leaders of war crimes.

Hankey was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster 1940-41, under Winston Churchill. He was succeeded by Duff Cooper who was a friend of Trumpers aka Baroness Jean Trumpington, who years later in her capacity as a Minister of Health was the genius who gave Jimmy Savile a job as manager of Broadmoor Hospital (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’).

It is alleged that T.J. was invaluable to Lloyd George with regard to dealing with the trade unions, as well as with regard to the Irish Question. T.J. was also important in dissuading Stanley Baldwin from exacting revenge in the aftermath of the General Strike. T.J. later published his diaries, which illuminated the meetings between Lloyd George and Hitler as well as the activities of the Cliveden set.

In 1914 T.J. started the magazine ‘Welsh Outlook’ to promote social progress in Wales. In 1936 T.J. was a member of Lloyd George’s party who met Hitler at the Eagle’s Nest.

How did T.J. become one of the six most important men in Europe? Not by being President of Aber – he was appointed after he’d become one of the six most important men in Europe. As in the case of Baroness Jean Trumpington, T.J. became important himself by being mates with other even more important people. T.J.’s choice of friends was interesting for a man who’s heart lay in Wales – some of his best mates were the very people whom Trumpers was friends with, such as the Astors of Cliveden fame, although T.J. died some six years before the Profumo scandal erupted. It was by extracting dosh from his rich friends that T.J. managed to do some of what he became famous for back home in Wales.

It was T.J. who founded Coleg Harlech in 1927 – Coleg Harlech was a worthy cause, a residential college for mature students, to continue the work of the WEA in a residential environment. I wonder where the money to establish it came from… The first Warden of Harlech was Ben Bowen Thomas – who was President of Aberystwyth, 1964-76. After the 1960s, Ieuan Jeffries-Jones became Warden and Coleg Harlech began offering 2 year diplomas, validated by the University of Wales, designed as entry for degree level courses. In the 1980s and 90s with the expansion of HE, Coleg Harlech lost its distinctiveness and came under the FE funding regime which caused it difficulty. The Coleg has always had a close association with the WEA and merged with the WEA (north Wales) in 2001 to form Coleg Harlech WEA (north Wales). It subsequently merged into Adult Learning Wales – Addysg Oedolion Cymru. In Feb 2017 it was announced that Coleg Harlech would close at the end of the academic year.

T.J. was also instrumental in founding Newbattle Abbey College, Midlothian in 1937. He was a Governor of the National Library of Wales; helped set up the Committee for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts, CEMA (the forerunner of the Arts Council) and the Army Bureau of Current Affairs. T.J. was Chair of Gwasg Gregynog Press throughout it’s existence. An involvement with Gwasg Gregynog Press and everything to do with it is another favourite sport of the network of so many involved with Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities.

T.J. accepted a seat on the National Assistance Board and he was the Secretary, Chair and a Trustee of the Pilgrim Trust from 1930. The Pilgrim Trust was founded in 1930 with a £2 million legacy left by the US millionaire Edward Harkness. The members of the Inaugural Board were Stanley Baldwin, Sir James Irvine, Sir Josiah Stamp and Hugh Macmillan. The Pilgrim Trust concerns itself with historical and archaeological projects, including historical churches, as well as social welfare work, especially alcohol and drugs misuse and prison projects. In 2016 Trustees included Professor Sir Colin Blakemore, Sir Alan Moses and Kevin Pakenham – the Chair was Sir Mark Jones, Master of St Cross College, Oxford.

T.J. was awarded the Medal of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion. He died in London in 1955.

T.J.’s biographer Dr E.L. Ellis stated that T.J. ‘was on the side of light’, that his ‘philanthropy was matchless among his contemporaries’ and that he was the ‘incarnation of public spiritedness’. Ellis named T.J., David Lloyd George and Aneurin Bevan as ‘the three greatest Welshmen in public life’ in the twentieth century. Who was Dr E.L. Ellis? He was Ted Ellis, an historian at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and warden of Pantycelyn Hall, 1962-74. In 1972 he wrote a history of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. In 1978 he was approached by T.J.’s daughter Eirene and his son Tristan to write a biography of T.J. Ellis’s biography of T.J was published by the University of Wales Press and was launched in June 1992 at a reception in the Commons, which was described as ‘grandiose’. I wonder if they meant ‘grand’. Although grandiose could well have been a more accurate description of the occasion.

It can be argued that assisting or toadying to rich and powerful people is worthwhile if one then uses their money or connections to benefit others. It was the argument that Mother Theresa used when she was asked why she was accepting donations from the Mafia. The problem lies in what those rich and powerful people might ask of you if they’re doing things that they shouldn’t be and they need to avoid trouble – if for example they are sexually exploiting children. That could put someone running a university training lawyers, some of whom will later become judges in quite a compromising position. The landscape becomes even darker if one considers that there may already be a university that is known to be producing lawyers and judges who have been known to do favours for other people and that university is in need of a President. Once one embarks upon the treadmill of saying yes to disgusting people because one’s impressed by their social position, one is on the journey to being a Top Doctor or a High Court judge who does favours for a paedophile ring.

In 1902 T.J. married someone whom he had known as a student from Aber whilst he was studying there, Eirene Lloyd, daughter of Dr Richard Lloyd, an academic from Liverpool University. As with so many others named on this blog, T.J. was someone who passed on his talents to the next generation. His son Tristan became MD of the ‘Observer’ and his daughter Eirene became the Labour MP for Flintshire East, Baroness White.

Eirene attended St Paul’s Girls School and Somerville College, Oxford. Whilst at Oxford, Lady Astor arranged a 21st birthday party for the then Eirene Jones at Cliveden. After graduation, Eirene landed a job as a readers advisor at New York Public Library via T.J.’s friend Abraham Flexner. Between 1933-39 Eirene – then back in the UK – worked as a social worker with the unemployed. She also did a bit of journalism. Her experience in social work led to her work with the Woman’s Voluntary Service in Cardiff, 1939-41. She became the Welsh Regional Secretary and was recruited by the Ministry of Labour to train workers in Wales – particularly women – for the war effort. Eirene was then a civil servant at the Board of Education until 1945. After the war, Eirene worked as the political correspondent for the ‘Manchester Evening News’ and the BBC. She met James Cameron White, a fellow Commons lobby correspondent, at a press briefing at No 10 Downing Street – they married in 1948.

After she married, Eirene kept homes in Hampstead and Wales.

Eirene obtaind the nomination as the Labour candidate for Flintshire for the 1945 General Election – she came close to defeating Nigel Birch, the Conservative candidate, in what had been a safe Conservative seat. At the 1950 General Election, Flintshire was divided into two constituencies, Flintshire East and Flintshire West. Hywel Teifi Edwards, a friend of T.J.’s, helped Eirene obtain the nomination for Flintshire East and T.J. campaigned for her. Eirene won the seat, which she held until 1970.

Hywel Tyfei Edwards was a Welsh historian and broadcaster. He came from Ceredigion, went to university at Aberystwyth, spent a while as a school teacher and then lectured at what became Swansea University – he became Professor of Welsh there. Hywel Tyfei Edwards is the leading authority on the history of the National Eisteddfod. He stood as a Plaid candidate twice, for Llanelli in 1983 and for Carmarthen in 1987. He was a member of Dyfed County Council, 1977-89. He is the father of Huw Edwards, the broadcaster.

Eirene had become a member of the Labour Party’s NEC women’s section in 1947. She served on the NEC at this time with Clement Attlee the PM and Herbert Morrison (Peter Mandelson’s grandfather). Eirene stepped down from the NEC in 1953, but returned in 1957 and remained until 1972. She was Chair of the Labour Party’s NEC, 1968-69.

Hugh Gaitskill appointed Eirene as deputy to Anthony Greenwood, who spoke for education on the opposition front bench. In 1961 Eirene held a joint press conference with Thatcher regarding the lack of provision for pre-school children in the high rise developments which had recently been built.

In 1964 Eirene was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Colonial Office and after the 1966 General Election she became Minister of State under the Foreign Secretary, George Brown. In 1967 Eirene endured a ‘very hostile reception’ at the Labour Party Conference, as a result of the ‘difficult situation’ in Rhodesia.

Eirene was a big supporter of the UN.

A reshuffle saw Eirene appointed to the Welsh Office in 1967. She became Minister of State under her ‘old friend’ Secretary of State for Wales Cledwyn Hughes. Cledwyn was a lawyer who had studied at Aber and who was President of the University College at Aberystwyth himself, 1975-85. Cledwyn undoubtedly knew about the organised abuse of children in north Wales (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’). George Thomas succeeded Cledwyn in 1968 – he was ‘not close’ to Eirene and she then played a much lesser part in the affairs of the Welsh Office. The South Wales Police recently held an investigation into allegations that George Thomas had committed sexual offences against children.

Eirene’s husband John died in 1968. It has been recorded that Eirene ‘nursed her dying husband and carried out her Ministerial duties efficiently’. Someone is telling porkies here, it is not possible to care for a dying person and continue working full time as a Minister. In 1968 Eirne was withdrawing from the ‘affairs’ of the Welsh Office – ie. its concealing of a paedophile ring and the abuses of patients in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh – because the dreadful George Thomas had become Secretary of State. That may be how Eirene had time to nurse her husband.

Eirene retired from the Commons in 1970 and received a peerage. She was Deputy Speaker in the Lords, 1979-89 and Chair of the Lords Select Committee on European Communities, 1979-82. So when Mary Wynch, Alison Taylor and I were blowing the whistle and raising concerns about criminal activities and institutionalised corruption in north Wales – right on Eirene’s patch – Eirene was Deputy Speaker in the Lords. Eirene’s seat in East Flintshire had been succeeded by Barry Jones, who later became Lord Barry Jones. Lord Baz remained remarkably silent about the organised abuse of children and mental health patients going on under his nose, despite a number of staff from the children’s homes in the region being convicted for the abuse of the young people in their ‘care’. For further details of Lord Baz and his wife, please see the post ‘Wheels Within Wheels Or Flies Drawn To The Same Incestuously Corrupt Shithouse?’ and the comments which follow it. Eirene regularly attended the Lords, until 1995 when she retired from public life. Just before the Waterhouse Inquiry…

Eirene retired to Abergavenny – where there was child abuse which was linked to the paedophile ring in north Wales. One of the advisors to Sir Ronald Waterhouse whilst he conducted his cover-up also retired to Abergavenny. Whilst in Parliament, Eirene had homes in Shotton and Hampstead, but also owned a cottage near Machynlleth. Her last years – she died in 1999 – were spent at her house in Treberfydd near Abergavenny, although she also owned flats in Cwmbran and Cardiff.

Lord Morris of Aberavon – a lawyer who studied at Aberystwyth and a good friend to the paedophiles’ friends himself – gave the address at Eirene’s memorial service.

Eirene was also: Chair of the Fabian Society; A Governor of the British Film Institute; a member of the Board of Trade Films Council; governor of the National Library of Wales; a member of the British Waterways Council, 1972-76; Deputy Chairman of the Matriculation Board, 1972-76; President of the Council for the Protection of Rural Wales, 1973-89; Chairman of the Land Authority of Wales, 1976-80; Chair of the Council 1983-88 and President 1987-88 of UWIST and a member of the Court at Aberystwyth, Bangor and Cardiff Universities. She was inevitably of course President of Coleg Harlech, 1974-84.

There was no escaping Eirene – and don’t forget, her brother ran the ‘Observer’.

In 1953, the year before T.J.’s reign at Aber came to an end, the College appointed a new Principal, Goronwy Rees. If you thought that T.J. had interesting friends in the Astors, just wait until you hear about Goronwy’s mates.

Goronwy was born in Aberystwyth and his father was Minister of the Tabernacle Calvinist Methodist Church. However the family moved to Roath in Cardiff when Goronwy was young as a result of hostility towards the Rev Rees after he clashed with his congregation as a result of his support for a Lloyd George Liberal in opposition to an Asquithian in a Cardiganshire by-election. Goronwy attended Cardiff High School for Boys and then went onto New College, Oxford. He became a fellow of All Souls College.

After graduation Goronwy went to Berlin and then wrote for the ‘Manchester Guardian’, 1932-35. In 1936 he became assistant Editor of the ‘Spectator’. For most of the 1930s Goronwy Rees was a Marxist, but the Hitler-Stalin pact turned him away from communism. During WWII, after Sandhurst he enlisted with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and after that returned to the Spectator. In 1946 Goronwy began working for H. Pontifex and Son, as well as for MI6, in their political section. In 1951 he returned to All Souls’ as Bursar. He was then invited to take up the post of Principal at Aberystwyth by T.J.

Things did not go smoothly for very long. In 1956 a series of anonymous articles appeared in the ‘People’, describing Guy Burgess as corrupt, a spy, a blackmailer, a drunk and gay – Burgess and Donald Maclean had defected in 1951. The ‘Daily Telegraph’ revealed that the author was Goronwy. Goronwy had become friends with Burgess in 1934 and in 1937 Burgess had fessed up to Goronwy that he was a Soviet agent. Goronwy had been in contact with the Cambridge spy ring via Burgess.

Burgess and Maclean’s friends were furious with the articles. The Cambridge spies enjoyed a high degree of loyalty from their friends – when Stephen Spender, a figure in the communist network, showed the ‘Daily Express’ a friend’s letter concerning Burgess, he was held to have disgraced himself. A huge row followed Goronwy’s article and many people turned on him. At Aber, the students supported him but the staff didn’t.  An inquiry was held which was highly critical of Rees. He resigned from Aber in 1957.

Goronwy Rees died in Charing Cross Hospital in 1979 and another controversy blew up after his death. It was alleged by Peter Wright of ‘Spycatcher’ fame that Rees had made a death bed confession in Charing Cross that he had spied for the USSR and that Guy Liddell, the Deputy Director of MI5, was part of the Philby, Burgess, Maclean and Blunt spy ring. Wright maintained that he didn’t believe that Liddell was a Soviet spy. Andrew Boyle, the author of ‘The Climate of Treason’, maintained that Rees told him that Anthony Blunt was a spy and ‘the man to follow’. Boyle revealed this to the ‘Daily Mail’ and it was that which led to Thatcher announcing in the Commons that the security services knew that Blunt was a spy, because Rees had warned the security services the weekend that Burgess and Maclean fled to Russia, yet Blunt had been knighted nonetheless.

Goronwy’s daughter Jenny Rees is a journalist who has worked for the ‘Daily Mail’, the ‘Daily Express’ and the ‘Daily Telegraph’. In 1994 she published a book about Goronwy, ‘Looking For Mr Nobody’. Jenny consulted KGB files and concluded that her dad was not a Soviet agent and that intelligence links with Burgess were severed in 1939.

In 1999, Vasili Mitrokhin, the former First Chief Directorate of the KGB, published his archives which included a file on Rees, which documented his recruitment by Burgess in the mid-30s. Mitrokhin claimed that Rees didn’t give any information to the Soviets and that he abandoned his communist affiliation at the outbreak of WWII.

The revelations since Goronwy’s death certainly caused a stir, but no-one seems to have stated the obvious – that everybody involved was a spy, so it is highly improbable that they were going to be telling the truth to anyone, whether it is to an Angel or Top Doctor in Charing Cross Hospital, Peter Wright – who was a spy himself – the ‘Daily Mail’ or even their friends and relatives. Neither would I expect the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth to be conscientiously documented in KGB files, particularly KGB files that have been made public. It is like relying upon my medical records for the truth about the many murderous attacks on people carried out by me that the paedophiles’ friends lovingly documented and signed. Luckily for me, the paedophiles’ friends aren’t as competent as the KGB so whilst documenting the lies that they presented in Court about me, they were good enough to also document their plans to tell the lies in order to have me convicted and cc those plans to their partners in crime.

The only thing that has been established is that Goronwy was friends with members of the Cambridge spy ring, as well as many other notable people, some of whom were communists or what would now be described as alternative or bohemian. Goronwy’s friends at Oxford included A.J. Ayer and he had relationships with Sheila Grant Duff, Elizabeth Bowen and Rosamund Lehmann. He married Margaret Ewing in 1940. It has also been established that some people officially working for the security services had a penchant for abusing children and/or concealing the actions of others who did so.

Goronwy Rees was a member of the Wolfenden Committee, which reviewed the legislation concerning homosexuality and prostitution and reported in 1957, although Rees resigned in 1956. Another member of the Committee was Dr Desmond Curran, a Top Doctor from St George’s Hospital Medical School and one of the foundation stones for the nest of corruption which that institution was (see posts ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne-Connection?’ and ‘The King’s Sperm’). The Wolfenden Committee’s Chair was John Wolfendale and it was later revealed that his son Jeremy had been gay. Whilst Jeremy was at Cambridge he would sign himself into gay clubs using the names of other students without their knowledge. Jeremy was recruited by MI6 and was later sent to Moscow as the foreign correspondent of the ‘Daily Telegraph’ where he was compromised by the KGB – Jeremy Wolfenden was a friend of Guy Burgess. Jeremy was found dead when he was in his early thirties, in suspicious circumstances in Washington.

Two years before Goronwy Rees resigned as Principal, David Hughes-Parry was appointed President, succeeding T.J.

Hughes-Parry was born to hill famers on the Llyn Pensinsula, Caernarvonshire. The family were Welsh speaking and deeply religious – Hughes-Parry learnt English at school. He attended Pwllheli County School, then won a scholarship to Aberystwyth where he read economics. He graduated in 1914, served on the Western Front with the Royal Welch Fusiliers and was invalided out in 1919. Hughes-Parry then studied law at Peterhouse, Cambridge. He became a law lecturer at Aber – he was also a barrister. Hughes-Parry became a law lecturer at the LSE in 1924, then in 1930 was appointed Professor of English Law. When he retired in 1959, his dept was considered the leading law dept in the country. In 1947 Hughes-Parry created the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and was Director of the Institute, 1947-59.

Hughes-Parry was Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, 1945-48 and Chair of the University Court, 1962-70. In 1955 he was appointed President of Aberystwyth. As previously mentioned, Hughes-Parry married the daughter of Sir O.M. Edwards, Haf, in 1923. David Hughes-Parry died at Llanuwchllyn – Haf had inherited her parents house there – in 1973.

Whilst I was researching David Hughes-Parry, I stumbled across two other Welshmen who were eminent physicists, one of whom became Vice-Chancellor of the University of London – Sir Sam Edwards and Lord Brian Flowers. They both attended Bishop Gore School in Swansea – which was previously Swansea Grammar School. It seems to have a history of producing pupils who achieved eminence – other former pupils include the 1st Baron Aberdare, Professor Sir John Cadogan (there will be more information about him later in this post), David Dykes (Director of the National Museum of Wales, 1986-89), Sir William Gove (chemist, barrister and a judge), Professor John Howell (President of the BMA, 1989-90) and Sir Gwilym Morris (Chief Constable of South Wales Constabulary, 1971-79).

Sir Sam Edwards went to Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, Manchester University and Harvard. Edwards was the Cavendish Professor of Physics at Cambridge, 1984-95. That Chair was founded by an endowment from William Cavendish, the 7th Duke of Devonshire. The current Duke of Devonshire is Peregrine Cavendish, the 12th Duke, who is Chancellor of the University of Derby.

Sir Sam Edwards was a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society for Wales.

Lord Brian Flowers also went to Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and then Birmingham University. He was Chair of the Science Research Council, 1967-73; a member of the Atomic Energy Authority, 1971-81; President of the Institute of Physics, 1972-74; Chair of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution, 1973-76; President of the European Science Foundation, 1974-80; Chair of the University of London Working Party on the Future of Medical and Dental Teaching Resources in the 1980s; Chair of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals, 1983-85; a member of the Council Academia Europaea, 1988-91; a Governor of Middlesex University, 1992-2001; Chair of the Committee of Inquiry into the Academic Year, 1992-93.

Flowers was Rector of Imperial College, 1973-85 and Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, 1985-90. He was a member of the Council and Vice-Chancellor of RPMS (Royal Postgraduate Medical School), 1990-97 and a member of the Management Board of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, 1994-95.

So Brian Flowers was the Man At The Top whilst I witnessed and was told about research fraud, plagiarism, sex with students in return for exam passes and the appointment of the mistresses of senior members of staff to lecturing jobs at RPMS/Hammersmith Hospital (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’) and the chaos and corruption at St George’s Hospital Medical School which included the collusion of their staff with serious criminal activity in north Wales (see posts ‘St Georges Hospital Medical, 1989/1990…’ and ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London…’). Brian Flowers was also Vice-Chancellor when Oliver Brooke, the Professor of Paediatrics at St George’s, was convicted and jailed for the possession of huge quantities of child porn. A detective working on the case later stated that Brooke had been a major player in a pan-European child sex ring, but had got away lightly because of his position. So even Brooke’s conviction didn’t ring alarm bells for old Brian then – obviously didn’t ever occur to him that something might be going dreadfully wrong at St George’s.

So who better than Brian Flowers to have been appointed as the Chair of the Nuffield Foundation (1987-98) and to have been allowed to play a significant role in the establishment of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics in 1991? Indeed Brian was such a safe pair of hands that in 1998 he became Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.

Brian Flowers was a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales in 2010.

Flowers’s obituary tells us that whilst at Imperial College he ‘introduced a democratic approach to appointing heads of department’ and that he ensured the ‘best candidate to lead the department’. So that’ll be why when later after Brian had been promoted to run the whole of London University, Mr Big of European Paedophilia was the head of the paediatrics dept at St George’s.

The London medical schools are now all part of Imperial College – it was Flowers who was responsible for this restructuring. So presumably all the paedophiles and facilitators of organised crime could be brought together to capitalise on all that lovely research funding – because no Gov’t can withstand the power of Top Doctors collectively screaming for more money whilst giving tear-jerking interviews about their life-saving work and the cures for cancer and schizophrenia which they have just discovered. Just to ensure that the purse strings are loosened, they’ll invite their mates who work for TV in to film a few babies in cots who will be for the chop if someone doesn’t stump up the cash.

Brian Flowers was given a peerage in 1979. I don’t know which dirty deed elicited that particular prize, because that was some years before the bad publicity over Oliver Brooke needed handling carefully and before the gang at St George’s concealed the North Wales Paedophile Ring. Perhaps it was something to do with getting Jeremy Thorpe off the hook! After all Norman Scott had been ‘treated’ by Top Doctors at St George’s and nothing would surprise me…

Lord Flowers was one of the founder members of the SDP in 1981. A friend of Dr Death, Shirl, Cyril Smith’s colleague David Steel et al then.

I am delighted to say that another safe pair of hands was appointed to follow Lord Flowers as the Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology – Lord Robert Winston! That’s the Robert Winston who was a colleague of Brian Flowers’ when Robert ran the Fertility Unit at Hammersmith Hospital – where he employed a relentlessly sexually harassing, groping gynaecologist whom Winston passed onto St George’s whom they in turn decided was such a time bomb that they planned to ‘send him to Wales’. Indeed they did – he now works as a consultant in the Cardiff and the paedophiles’ friend Dr Brian Gibbons awarded him a prize when Gibbons was Health Minister.

Lord Flowers died in 2010 and was ‘fondly remembered’ by Lord Winston. A John Davidson remembered that Flowers was ‘honest and straightforward’.

To celebrate his 60th burfday in 1984, Flowers’s friend Sir Kyffin Williams – an artist from Anglesey – was commissioned to paint his portrait. No doubt Imperial College or the House of Lords have that proudly hanging up in a corridor somewhere.

In 1958, whilst David Hughes-Parry was President, Sir Thomas Parry was appointed Principal of Aberystwyth.

Thomas Parry was librarian at the National Library of Wales, 1953-58; Principal of University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1958-69; Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, 1961-63 and 1967-69.

Thomas Parry was one of three biggest figures in Welsh language literature, history and scholarship in the twentieth century.

Parry was born in Carmel in Caernarvonshire in 1904. His father was a quarryman and smallholder who married three times – Thomas Parry had a number of well-known relatives from his father’s previous marriages. One of his half-brothers was the father of Robert Williams Parry – Robert Williams Parry was a poet and at one time the Chair of the Caernarvonshire branch of Plaid Cymru. Another half-brother was the father of Sir T.H. Parry-Williams. T.H. Parry-Williams was the head of Rhyd Ddu School, a Welsh teacher and a poet. He was also a broadcaster as well as Chairman of the BBC’s Welsh Council, President of the National Library of Wales as well as of the Court of the Eistedddfod and the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion. There were numerous well-known poets and scholars in T.H. Parry-Williams’s circle, with many links to the University of Wales, particularly those colleges at Bangor and Aberystwyth.

Sir Thomas Parry went to study at UCNW (later Bangor University) in 1922. In 1926 he was appointed as an assistant lecturer at the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire, Cardiff. In 1929 he became a lecturer in his old dept at Bangor. He was given a Chair in Welsh at Bangor and then became Vice-Principal. He was appointed librarian at the National Library of Wales in 1953 and during his time there HM the Queen opened a new Book Stack. Thomas Parry was the Chairman of the National Eisteddfod Council in the early 1950s and in 1959 became a Fellow of the British Academy.

Parry had wanted to be Principal of UCNW at Bangor but somebody else was appointed to succeed Sir David Emrys Evans, who was Principal, 1927-58. Who was that someone? It was Sir Charles Evans. I detailed Charles Evans’s background in a comment following my post ‘Wheels Within Wheels Or Flies Drawn To The Same Incestuously Corrupt Shithouse?’. Charles Evans was a Top Doctor, a neurosurgeon who practiced in Liverpool. Charles Evans developed multiple sclerosis and was unable to continue operating, so he took up an administrative role ie. Principal of UCNW. The thing dearest to Charles Evans however wasn’t neurosurgery, it was mountain climbing – Evans was a member of the first team who successfully conquered Everest, along with Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tenzing. There were very serious problems at UCNW under Evans – as well as protests from the Welsh language students which Evans inflamed by being generally rude and intransigent – so much so that in the late 1970s Caernarfon MP Dafydd Wigley asked Secretary of State for Education Shirley Williams to hold an inquiry into Evans’s running of the institution. There was no inquiry. I went to UCNW as a student in 1981 and there were certainly some odd people employed in some roles. The Agriculture Dept was famously dreadful and haemorrhaged students at a great rate. The biggest problem however was of course the Student Health Centre, which employed Gwynne the lobotomist and paedophiles’ friend as a psychiatrist and the corrupt Dr D.G.E. Wood as a GP. Dr Dafydd Alun Jones, Gwynne’s partner in crime and another paedophiles’ friend, also exerted great influence in the Psychology Dept. Charles Evans, being a neurosurgeon, would have known Gwynne, almost certainly knew Dafydd and would have known about the appalling practices at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh – I am less certain as to whether he knew that Gwynne and Dafydd were facilitating a paedophile ring and sexually exploiting patients. Charles Evans certainly knew that there was disaster after disaster happening at the Student Health Centre as a result of Gwynne and Wood. Under Charles Evans, there were also two infamous lecturers employed at UCNW – one was a lecherous old man who worked in the Agriculture Dept, Gordon Farley, who tended to be seen as a joke among the female students and the other was Andrew Radford, the Professor of Linguistics. A number of female linguistics graduates alleged that their excellent finals results had been a result of them having had sex with Radford and I was told by a retired member of staff from Bangor that Radford himself was boasting to his colleagues about his activities at Newborough beach with female undergrads. Farley and Radford were certainly not looked upon fondly by the rest of the staff, but I doubt that Sir Charles Evans gave a stuff – he was after all employing a Top Doctor in the Student Health Centre who had lobotomised and incarcerated the victims of a paedophile ring.

Charles Evans’s status as a national hero after his Everest feat I suspect made him untouchable, which is perhaps why there never was any sort of inquiry into his management of UCNW. Evans was appointed Principal in 1958. I suspect that one person who might have been very influential in the nuts and bolts of appointing Charles Evans rather than just the rubber stamping of his appointment could have been the President of UCNW at that time. That was Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon, the 5th Baron Kenyon, who was President, 1947-82.

Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon was educated at Eton and Magdalene College, Cambridge and was among many other things: President of the National Museum of Wales, 1952-57; Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery, 1953-88 and then Chair, 1966-88; Chair of the Friends of National Libraries, 1962-85; a member of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts, 1966-93; member of the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries; a Director of Lloyds Bank and Chair of its North West Board, 1962-85. Tyrell-Kenyon played a large part in the revival of Gwasg Gregynog Press and was Chair, 1978-91. He was a JP in 1944 and Deputy Lieutenant of Flintshire in 1948. He was a Flintshire County Councillor, was appointed to the first records committee and was an active supporter of the Flintshire Records Office (later the Clwyd Records Office).

Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon was the father of Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon. In July 1979 Thomas woke up in a room in the Crest Hotel, Wrexham to find that his clothes and property had been stolen by the boy whom he had spent the previous night having sex with. Thomas reported the theft to the police, named the boy, told the police exactly what he had been doing with the boy in the hotel and also claimed that some explicit Polaroid photos of him and the boy together that they’d taken had been stolen as well. The boy was in the care of Clwyd County Council when this happened. The boy’s social worker recorded that the North Wales Police were well aware of ‘homosexual activities’ between the boy and Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon. The boy was subsequently convicted and sent to a Detention Centre. Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon was never charged with any offence.

Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon was a member of the North Wales Police Authority and the Provincial Grandmaster of the Freemasons of North Wales. He was Chair of Wrexham, Powys and Mawddach Hospital Management Committee, 1960-74 and Chair of Clwyd Area Health Authority, 1974-78.

Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon died of AIDS in 1993 – his father died in the same year.

The boy at the centre of the incident in the Crest Hotel told the Waterhouse Inquiry that Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon had ‘used him for sex’ on many occasions. The Waterhouse Inquiry was also told that Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon tried to pressurise the Chief Constable of the North Wales Police when the Chief Constable attempted to dissuade officers from becoming Freemasons.

I wonder if the boy involved had even committed the theft as alleged? The paedophile ring that operated in north Wales had links to organised crime involved with drugs and porn. The porn photos of Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon and the boy were ‘never found’, although everything else which had been ‘stolen’ was.

Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon’s father (also called Lloyd) the 4th Baron Kenyon had also been President of UCNW, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Wales and President of the National Museum of Wales. The 4th Baron Kenyon was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford and was a Whip in the Conservative Gov’t of Lord Salisbury and then again in the Coalition Gov’t of Lloyd George of 1916-18. He was a Flintshire County Councillor, a JP in Shropshire and Flintshire and Lord Lieutenant of Denbighshire from 1918 until his death until 1927.

The paedophiles’ friend – indeed a paedophile’s father – the 5th Baron Lord Kenyon was followed as President of UCNW by Sir William Mars-Jones, who was in office 1982-95 as mentioned previously. Lord Cledwyn followed Mars-Jones as President and remained in post until 2000.

As for Thomas Parry, having been blown out of his desired job by Sir Charles Evans, Parry instead became Principal of Aber in 1958. It is recorded that Thomas Parry had to ‘reshape the ship’ after Goronwy Rees’s ‘unorthodox captaincy’. We are also told that academically Aberystwyth ‘thrived’ during Thomas Parry’s time, but he found it difficult to put up with the ‘liberal youth’ of that period (Parry was Principal 1958-69). The liberal youth of that period at Aber were famed for their Welsh language activism – whereas Thomas Parry’s network was running a paedophile ring, with the associated abuse of psychiatry and trade in porn and drugs.

At the end of Thomas Parry’s reign Prince Charles spent a short time at Aber as a student, to learn Welsh. I don’t expect that anyone dared send him to Bangor, what with the conqueror of Everest and Dafydd and Gwynne on the loose. Charles could have ended up sexually assaulted and then lobotomised.

Thomas Parry’s entry in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, written by Derec Llwyd Morgan in 2009, reads: ‘his tongue like his fountain pen could be very sharp. His bearing alone was enough to frighten some people and his criticism was scathing. But he also enjoyed leg pulling…a scholar prince who never forgot his people, his peers or their essential institutions’.

Could not the scholar prince have directed his very sharp tongue and frightening bearing at the friends of the gang of paedophiles that occupied so many of the senior posts in the essential institutions? Or was Thomas Parry too busy pulling everyone’s leg? It must have been a laugh a minute supping and hobnobbing with people who were having kids in care banged up after they’d had sex with them and used them for porn. Nearly as funny as when they contracted HIV from the people who had sexually molested them.

Derec Llwyd Morgan was Principal of Aberystwyth, 1994-2004.

Thomas Parry married Enid, daughter of Mr and Mrs Picton Davies – who could well be related to the Picton Davies who was President of the London Welsh Society – in 1936. He died in 1985 at Bangor. Leg pulling and laughing all the way to his grave no doubt.

The President of Aber during the latter part of Thomas Parry’s time there and then until 1976 as Principal was Sir Ben Bowen Thomas. Bowen Thomas was born in Ystrad Rhondda and attended Rhondda Grammar School. He then went to University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and then to Jesus College, Oxford. Bowen Thomas was influenced by the adult education movement and spent five years as a university tutorial class lecturer. He was the first Warden of Coleg Harlech when it was founded in 1927. Bowen Thomas remained in that post until 1940, when he took up a position as a civil servant in the Ministry of Labour and was then appointed Permanent Secretary to the Welsh Department of the Ministry of Education, 1945-63. He was President of the London Welsh Trust 1953-55. Bowen Thomas was involved with UNESCO, as a member of the Executive Board and later the Chair, 1958-60.

He retired from the civil service in 1963 and was appointed President of Aber in 1964. Bowen Thomas Chaired the Baptist Union of Wales, 1966-67. My post ‘A Serious Moral Collapse’ describes a publication of the Baptist Union of Wales dated July 1971. It details the wise words dispensed to the Welsh Baptists when they were addressed by one Dr Dafydd Alun Jones – Dafydd maintained that remembering Bible verses one learnt as a child may be enough to prevent a ‘serious moral collapse’.

The Principal of Aberystwyth 1969-79 was Sir Goronwy Daniel. Goronwy Daniel was born in Ystradgynlais, the son of a colliery manager. He attended Pontardawe Grammar School, then Amman Valley County School, went to university at Aber and then to Jesus College, Oxford. He joined the civil service in 1943 and worked as a statistical assistant to Sir William Beveridge in the Ministry of Labour. Goronwy Daniel became Permanent Secretary at the Welsh Office upon its establishment in 1964, where he remained until 1969. Goronwy served under Secretaries of State Jim Griffiths, Cledwyn Hughes and George Thomas. So it was Goronwy who was heading up the corruption and the concealing of terrible things in north Wales by the Welsh Office from its very beginnings. As well as being Principal of Aberystwyth, Sir Goronwy was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, 1977-79 and Chairman of the S4C Authority, 1981-86, having been a prime mover in the creation of S4C. For details of the way in which the welfare and safety of children in care and mental health patients in north Wales were traded in return for the creation of S4C and the Welsh Language Act of 1993, see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’. When I wrote ‘The Cradle of Filth’, I was unaware of exactly who the individuals were who reminded Willie Whitelaw that the north Wales children’s homes were being used as a knocking shop by a number of public figures – including Willie’s colleague the Tory MP for Chester, Sir Peter Morrison – when Whitelaw renegaded on his promise to establish a Welsh language TV channel. I have now found out who they were. Goronwy Daniel was one of ‘three wise men’ – the other two were the Archbishop of Wales and Cledwyn Hughes – who went to see Whitelaw in London. Approximately one week later, Nicholas Edwardes the Secretary of State for Wales, announced that there’d be a Welsh language TV channel. I bet he did – the Westminster Paedophile Ring needed its supply of fresh meat and an awful lot of people wanted to remain in their comfy jobs and not go to prison.

The Archbishop of Wales who participated in this sordid piece of bargaining was Gwilym Williams. Williams grew up and went to school in Caernarvonshire and then on to Jesus College, Oxford. Until 1940 Williams was the curate at St Asaph. He was then the chaplain at St David’s College, Lampeter. In 1945 he became the chaplain and tutor at St Mary’s College, Bangor and also a lecturer in theology at UCNW. In 1947 Williams was appointed Canon of Bangor Cathedral. In 1948 he became the headmaster of Llandovery College. Gwilym Williams was the Bishop of Bangor, 1957-82. For many of those years he held the post along with the post of Archbishop of Wales.

This might explain something that I always found a little surprising, although perhaps I shouldn’t have. My post ‘Amber Rudd, The Miners’ Strike and a Memory Jogged’ describes how in the summer of 1984, Brown and I went to a public meeting organised by the Bishop of Bangor regarding the problem of drug abuse in north Wales, only to find Dafydd addressing the audience. I hadn’t encountered Dafydd by then, but even so Brown and I  realised that he was mad and very obviously didn’t know his arse from his elbow. The Bishop then was Cledan Mears and I’ve always presumed that the Bishop et al didn’t actually know what Dafydd got up to. They obviously did – the previous Bishop had been one of the paedophiles’ friends himself. He won’t have been all on his own either, there’ll have been others around him who were paedophiles’ friends and they will still have been in place two years later when we went to Cledan Mears’s meeting. It also explains why Bangor Cathedral was famously dysfunctional with backbiting and unpleasantness which drove people away.

The first appointments to S4C were made by Goronwy Daniel with Professor Alwyn Roberts, another member of S4C’s Board. Elan Closs Stephens – whom Goronwy appointed as Professor of Drama at Aberystwyth in 1975 – eventually became Chair of S4C. The first Chief Executive of S4C was Owen Edwards, son of Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards.

Sir Goronwy was Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, 1978-89.

Goronwy Daniel married Lady Valerie Lloyd George, granddaughter of Lloyd George and daughter of the 2nd Earl Lloyd George, Lloyd George’s son Richard, in 1940.

Goronwy Daniel died in 2003. His obituary in the ‘Independent’, written by Meic Stephens, described Goronwy as a ‘safe pair of hands, always a prerequisite for appointments in his native Wales’. You’ve summed it up there Meic, all hell would have been unleashed if anyone had dared spark off anything that led to the revelation that disadvantaged kids and mental health patients were being used for sex – often by members of the British upper echelons and from the Tory Party as well – whilst huge swathes of the Welsh speaking middle classes acquired cushy numbers for themselves in return for colluding with it all. Meic also explained that Goronwy was ‘well versed in mandarin culture when he took up the appointment as Permanent Secretary’ and that this ‘Welsh speaker and patriot’ knew that his ‘main job was to establish the credibility of the Welsh Office’. Meic informs us that it was under Goronwy’s leadership that the Welsh Office acquired additional responsibilities for health and agriculture’. So THAT’S who ensured that Dafydd, Gwynne and the paedophiles’ friends were brought under the domain of bunch of people who were just as corrupt as they were and covered up their serious crimes for decades. Goronwy desiring that particular outcome and indeed managing to persuade people to allow him to ensure it happened won’t have been a coincidence.

Goronwy Daniel was said to have got his knighthood in return for ‘weathering the turbulence of the investiture’. At Aber he supported teaching through the medium of Welsh and established a bilingual drama department in 1973. Goronwy Daniel developed Aberystwyth Arts Centre and was the President of the West Wales Association for the Arts. He was ‘an egalitarian spirit: he treated everyone with the same warm geniality, however exalted or lowly their place’. Unless of course they were kids in care being targeted by a paedophile gang.

There is an account of Goronwy making a dick of himself when the French dramatist Eugene Ionesco visited Aber and lunched with Goronwy at the Principal’s official residence. Goronwy’s contribution to polite chat was to move around the room pointing at the furniture, repeatedly asking Ionesco how much he thought that each piece was worth, only to then tell Ionesco that it was very much more valuable than he realised.

When Goronwy left Aber in 1979, he retired to Pembrokeshire to enjoy ‘country pursuits’. Presumably the egalitarian spirit wiled away many happy days blasting pheasants out of the air on his country estate. Perhaps with some of his wife’s friends. Lady Valerie was used to the best from a very young age. There is film footage in the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales at the National Library of Wales featuring Lady Valerie, the daughter of Lloyd George’s eldest son Richard. Lady Valerie remembers going to stay at Downing Street for long stretches at a time. Lloyd George was an indulgent grandfather who liked to spend time with his grandchildren, so he had nursery accommodation built for them on the top floor at Downing Street. The grandchildren used to be allowed into the Cabinet Room where they would jump about on the furniture.

A lot of people in that network were very fond of children.

Someone who worked under/with Sir Goronwy the paedophiles’ friend before Goronwy was Principal of Aberystwyth was a man called Rhodri Morgan. Between 2000-09 Rhodri was First Minister of Wales. Jane Hutt and Dr Brian Gibbons, two people whom Rhodri appointed as Ministers – as well as his main special advisor Mark Drakeford who later became Health Minister – failed to react whilst heath and social services staff in north Wales were involved in serious criminal activity.

Rhodri was born in Cardiff in 1939, the son of Professor T.J. Morgan. He attended Whitchurch Grammar School, St John’s College, Oxford and Harvard University.

He worked as a tutor for the WEA (1963-65); as a research officer in local and central gov’t (1967-71); as an economic advisor to the DTI (1972-74); as an industrial development officer for South Glamorgan County Council (1974-80); as head of the European Community’s Office in Wales (1980-87). He was MP for Cardiff West, 1987-2001; AM for Cardiff West, 1999-2011; First Minister, 2000-09. Rhodri was appointed Chancellor of Swansea University in 2011.

Rhodri’s father, Professor T.J. Morgan, was born near Swansea and went to what became Swansea University. He was from a Welsh speaking family and met his wife Huana at the National Eisteddfod. He was the Professor of Welsh at Swansea, 1961-75.

In August 2006, BBC News Wales, reporting from the Eisteddfod, told us that Rhodri’s great-great-great grandfather Morgan Morgan was a local leader of the Rebecca Riots in the mid-19th century. Other ancestors of Rhodri were involved in the riots as well. Rhodri’s brother Prys told the BBC that the imprisonment of their forebears ‘has always been an inspiration from childhood to the radicalisation of my dear brother’.

The BBC also reported that the winner of the crown for the main literature prize that day at the Eisteddfod was Eigra Lewis Roberts. The BBC told us that Eigra had won many prizes at Eisteddfodau and was ‘one of Wales’s most popular authors’. Eigra has been featured on S4C a number of times. Eigra was born in Blaenau Ffestiniog, graduated from what is now Bangor University and later taught at Holyhead and Llanwrst.

Many school teachers in north Wales knew that the kids in the care of the local authorities were being abused. The teachers in the mainstream schools weren’t abusing the children in the same way in which the social workers employed in the children’s homes were – although the teacher employed in the Ty’r Felin home in Bangor was appalling and routinely physically assaulted his pupils – but they were well aware that disadvantaged kids were not being treated in the same way as children from other homes. One of the homes where children were abused was in Holyhead. Llanwrst is a rather different place – it is a rural Welsh speaking town in the Conwy Valley, traditionally a farming area. The area around Llanwrst is highly desirable and there are some expensive properties located there. I have noticed whilst researching for this blog that again and again people who later occupied key positions at a senior level who concealed the criminality in the welfare services in north Wales came from the better off families in the Llanwrst area.

An article from ‘Wales Online’, Jan 2010, tells us that at some point in the 1960s, Rhodri’s best friend Neil Kinnock persuaded Rhodri to join the Labour Party. Rhodri’s brother Prys stated that Welsh history and culture had become more important to Rhodri since his appointment as First Minister and that Rhodri had been ‘far more involved with the Welsh language heartlands’. It was in the language heartlands of north Wales that there was the worst problem with the institutionalised abuse of children and mental health patients, although these problems existed elsewhere too.

Prys Morgan, like his brother, attended Whitchurch Grammar and St John’s College, Oxford. In 1964 he began teaching history at University College, Swansea – where his father had been a Professor. Prys too became a Professor in the same institution in which his father had been a Professor! Prys is now Professor Emeritus. Since his retirement Prys has been: President of the National Eisteddfod; President of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion; joint Director of the Iolo Morganwg Project at Aberystwyth University; a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society for Wales and a member of its Inaugural Council.

Rhodri Morgan died in 2017. His funeral was led by his ‘friend and former Welsh Labour colleague’ humanist funeral celebrant, Lorraine Barrett.

Lorraine was the Labour and Co-operative AM for Cardiff and Penarth, 2007-11. Lorraine was born in the Rhondda and married Paul Barrett. Paul Barrett was the agent and manager of pop musicians in south Wales during the 1960, 70s and 80s – the highest profile name on his books was Shakin’ Stevens. Paul Barrett ended up in a huge legal dispute with Shaky once Shaky became rich and famous – it seems that royalties worth a bomb which were owed to Barrett didn’t find their way to him. Lorraine was a nurse who was also a Councillor in the Vale of Glamorgan and Penarth Town Council. She was an assistant to another name that has cropped up on this blog, Alun Michael, MP for Cardiff South and Penarth, 1987-99 (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’). Lorraine was a member of the Welsh Labour Executive, the National Policy Forum and the TGWU.

As an Angel, Lorraine will have known that there were serious problems in the NHS in the Cardiff area, including in the University Hospital and in the Welsh National School of Medicine. She will have gathered even more information about this in her capacity as a Councillor. Her union, the TGWU, represented the people staffing those dysfunctional institutions rather than the people who were being abused and neglected. Which is why we are still not hearing the truth about institutional corruption from unions like the TGWU. Neither did we ever hear about it from Lorraine. Lorraine and her husband might be able to shed light on the sexploitation of teenagers as well – it is rampant in the music business. Shakin’ Stevens himself was named and shamed many years ago in the 70s/80s when he first hit the big time. It was revealed in the press that Shaky was being promoted as a heart throb to younger adolescent girls, although Shaky was married with kids and much older than anyone let on. This rather unscrupulous marketing was the work of Shaky’s manager. I wonder who that might have been.

Rhodri Morgan married Julie in 1967. Julie Morgan was the MP for Cardiff North, 1997-2010 and has been the Cardiff North AM since 2011. Julie was elected as an MP on an all-woman shortlist and is a chum of Harriet Harman’s, who was responsible for that initiative – an initiative that was used by Blair to impose his own choice of candidates on constituencies. As a result of all-women shortlists, a number of local candidates with years of service behind them – including some women – lost their chance of being elected. It was an all-woman shortlist that led to the electorate’s rebellion in 2005 which saw Labour lose its safest seat in Wales. Peter Hain subsequently publicly stated that the Labour Party needed to apologise because they had stopped listening to the electorate. Harriet et al showed no such regrets, I don’t think that they were even listening to Peter Hain, let alone the electorate.

Julie was born in Cardiff, went to Howell’s School and then King’s College, London. She then went to Manchester University and University College Cardiff. She became a social worker with Barry Social Services and then Assistant Director of Barnardo’s. She was a Councillor on South Glamorgan County Council, 1985-97 and on Cardiff City Council from 1995.

Some of those responsible for abusing the children in care in north Wales had worked for Barnardo’s. Julie was elected as an MP as the Waterhouse Inquiry took evidence from the former kids in care in north Wales who had been beaten, raped, deprived of food, forced to work as free labour in local businesses and trafficked into sex work.

Julie’s ‘fundamental beliefs’ include ‘equal treatment for children…in respect of protection from violence’. But not if that involves speaking up when you’ve been put on an all woman short list and your husband’s got his eye on a job as First Minister obviously.

Julie is involved in women’s rights, the welfare of children and disabled people. She was the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Children in Wales!

Julie is a veteran of the  south Wales Labour Party network – she campaigned for Sunny Jim Callaghan alongside her pals Neil Kinnock and Rhodri.

When Rhodri was elected as First Minister in 2000, his mother said ‘he has wanted this from the very start. Now he has had his wish and that’s nice for him isn’t it?’ Rhodri became First Minister the year that the Waterhouse Report that was published. The biggest child abuse scandal that the UK had ever experienced – and Rhodri then employed and promoted some of the people who were responsible for managing the ‘services’ which allowed it to happen. Many of the abused kids had been found dead and five witnesses were killed in a petrol bomb attack.

But at least Rhodri made it as far as First Minister and that was nice for him.

In 1977, two years before Sir Goronwy Daniel stood down as Principal of Aberystwyth, this blog’s old friend Cledwyn Hughes, aka Lord Cledwyn was appointed President of the institution. He held the post until 1985. More details of Cledwyn’s long and glorious career in helping out the paedophiles’ friends and his relationship with the Kinnocks can be read in my post ‘The Cradle of Filth’. Not only was Cledwyn Secretary of State for Wales, one of the ‘three wise men’ who hammered out the ‘rent boys for S4C’ deal and President of Aberystwyth, but he later turned up as President of the University of Wales, Bangor, 1995-2000, as well. So Cledwyn had a full house. Bingo!

Gareth Owen was the Principal of Aber who followed Sir Goronwy. Gareth Owen held the office 1979-89. Gareth Owen was a zoologist who was also Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales. There is very little information available about Gareth Owen.

Between 1985-97, Sir Melvyn Rosser was President of Aberystwyth. Melvyn is a bit of a mystery to me – there is hardly anything about him available online, so I don’t actually know who he was. I suspect that like Professor Robert Bluglass who disappeared from the internet in a very similar manner a few years ago, Melvyn might have disgraced himself in some way. He had been knighted so had obviously made himself useful to somebody and was Chairman of the HTV Group, 1986-91. Melvyn appears on the list of old pupils of Bishop Gore School and he died in 2001, but I can’t even find any obituaries for him.

There are however references to Sir Melvyn in Hansard, March 1985. Hansard records that Ron Davies – he who was Secretary of State for Wales and achieved notoriety in Wales by experiencing a ‘moment of madness’ on Clapham Common and a few years later being caught ‘looking for badgers’ in a well known gay cruising spot (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’) – asked the Secretary of State for Wales, Nicholas Edwardes, if he would list all the appointments held under his patronage by Sir Melvyn Rosser since 1979. Edwardes replied that he hadn’t appointed Melvyn to any public body, but that he was consulted by the Chairman of the Manpower Services Commission prior to Sir Melvyn’s initial appointment as Chairman of the Manpower Services Committee for Wales in 1980 and on his re-appointment in 1983.

I remember the Manpower Services Commission well – one of Thatcher’s ‘job creation’ cons, in which people who had no hope of getting a job were duped into participating in a short-term bit of meaningless activity in return for the amount of money that they would have received if they were on benefits, only to find themselves unemployed once more when the ‘scheme’ stopped. UCNW took on some of the ‘trainees’ whilst I was an undergrad and a degree of confusion resulted because the trainees would describe themselves as being on an ‘MSC project’ and unsuspecting people would think they were on an MSc project. This went on many years before I read any sociology but even then I observed an obvious social hierarchy – the MSC ‘trainees’ were local young Welsh people who were unable to find jobs because of the state of the nation’s economy, the supervisors of the ‘projects’ upon which they were allegedly working were nearly always social workers or teachers who had moved to north Wales and couldn’t work as social workers or teachers because they didn’t speak Welsh and the people presiding over all this were public figures appointed by Thatch, one of whom I now know to have been Sir Melvyn. I only knew two people from the many MSC trainees who were ‘trained’ who moved into permanent worthwhile jobs as a result of the MSC project – both of them were highly competent and good team workers who would have found no difficulty at all gaining employment if Thatcher hadn’t have destroyed the economy of Wales. But Sir Melvyn obviously did very well out of his MSC training placement.

The National Archives at Kew also contains records which refer to Melvyn. Melvyn is named as a member of the Diamond Committee. I think that this must be a reference to a Committee Chaired by Jack Diamond, who was a member of Harold Wilson’s Cabinet but later joined the Gang of Four when they founded the SDP. So the Committee that Melvyn was a member of could have been the Royal Commission on the Distribution of Wealth and Income OR the PM’s Advisory Committee on Business Appointments of Civil Servants. Jack Diamond himself was involved with work with the poor of the East End, the RCN and was Director of Sadlers Wells Trust.

If any readers have any information about Sir Melvyn and why he’s been air-brushed out of history, please do contact me.

Melvyn may have disappeared without trace, but the man who was Principal of Aberystwyth (1989-94) under Melvyn certainly has not. That man is Kenneth Morgan aka Lord Kenneth O. Morgan of Aberdyfi. Kenneth Morgan is a Welsh historian who is described as having exerted great influence upon the Labour Party.

Kenneth Morgan attended Aberdovey School, University College School and Oriel College, Oxford. Kenneth Morgan is on record as being very rude about the quality of education that was on offer at Oriel, but he was very complimentary about his lecturers Asa Briggs and Hugh Trevor-Roper – the Hugh Trevor-Roper who lost all credibility in 1983 when he was taken in by the forgeries that were the Hitler Diaries.

Kenneth Morgan lectured at University College Swansea, 1958-66 (so he’ll have known Rhodri Morgan’s extended clan who colonised that establishment), was Principal of Aber, 1989-94 and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, 1989-95.

Kenneth Morgan was made a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards in 2008 and in 2009 received the Medal from the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion. He was a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales. Kenneth is a member of the Labour Party.

During the 1970s and 80s a group of historians caused a great deal of trouble in Wales and people were traumatised by them. They were the Welsh labour historians who had been influenced by people like Eric Hobsbawm and E.P. Thompson and they introduced a Marxist analysis into the social history of Wales. They were very prolific and very productive and at one point it looked as though history was going somewhere, but sadly history in the UK has now evolved into TV programmes about the ancestors of the Royal Family presented by Lucy Worsley and books about Great Men written by the likes of Boris and Lord Hague of the Concealing of the Paedophile Gang.

It seems that Kenneth Morgan was also upset by the Welsh labour historians – Morgan describes himself as a ‘traditional liberal historian’. When discussing the work of the labour historians, Kenneth is on record as saying that it ‘was too often doctrinaire and intolerant of non-Marxist dissent – it was also too often plain wrong, distorting the evidence within a narrow doctrinaire framework. I felt it incumbent upon me to help resist it. But this was not always fun. I recall addressing a history meeting in Cardiff…when for the only time in my life, I was subjected to an incoherent series of attacks of a highly personal kind, playing the man not the ball, focusing on my accent, my being at Oxford and the supposedly reactionary tendencies of my empiricist colleagues’.

Never mind Kenneth, they might have taken the piss out of you, but you’ve got a Medal from the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion and a seat in the Lords, alongside a load of spineless gits who concealed institutionalised corruption in the British state.

One memorable argument forwarded by members of the group of historians who upset Kenneth Morgan so much was their insistence that the working classes of Wales were not just oppressed by English landowners and the aristocracy, but that the middle classes of Wales had done much oppressing themselves, although they had skilfully used their influence in the nonconformist churches and their control of the press to frame themselves as the defenders of language and nation.

I just cannot help thinking of all those social workers, teachers, councillors, lawyers, judges, Top Doctors and politicians who constructed themselves as patriots and Welsh language champions whilst concealing and/or facilitating that paedophile gang in north Wales. The paedophile gang who were securing children to be sexually used by Sir Peter Morrison, Lord Kenyon’s son and others.

Not only has Ken got a medal and a peerage but in Jun 2014 he was honoured in Parliament by being awarded a lifetime achievement award from the All Party Parliamentary Group on Archives and History. The joint Chair of that Group was Dr Hywel Francis, an honorary Professor at Swansea University. Kenneth was Dr Hywel Francis’s tutor when Hywel was a student at Swansea in 1965! Which will have been when Rhodri’s dad and brother were involved with what is now Swansea University. Hywel Francis attended Whitchurch Grammar School. As did Rhodri and his brother.

Before he was elected as the MP for Aberavon, Hywel Francis was a Professor at the University of Wales. It might have even been at Swansea…

Hywel has been a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards since 1986. He is Vice-President of Carers UK and has suggested that Wales could have a Carers Commissioner, based on the Children’s Commissioner. Hywel was Chair of the Joint Committee on Human Rights and the former Chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee. I wonder if Hywel was Chair of that Committee when the paedophiles’ friends got together and submitted their Memorandum to the Committee as part of their efforts to have Edwina Hart removed as Health Minister, after she tried to take on the corruption and carnage in the NHS in north Wales (see post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University’). In 2014 Hywel Francis became Chair of Byw Nawr, an organisation set up by the Dying Matters Coalition.

Hywel Francis stood down as the MP for the safe seat of Aberavon and Stephen Kinnock succeeded him. Stephen Kinnock is particularly committed to Wales, having been to school in London, then to university at Queen’s College, Cambridge, then to the College of Europe in Bruges for postgraduate work. This was followed by a career based in Europe, St Petersburg and London. Stephen married that well-known local Welsh girl, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the Prime Minister of Denmark. She was often seen out and about in Merthyr. No doubt Stephen was selected for Aberavon with the help of an all-women shortlist.

Kenneth Morgan was married to historian and criminologist Jane Morgan, who died in 1992. Jane’s obituary in the ‘Independent’ explains that she came from Wrexham, went to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and did her PhD at the University of Leicester. She married Kenneth in 1973. Jane Morgan worked at the Centre for Criminological Research, Oxford University, 1985-89. Jane’s special interests were child victims of crime. She was a victim support organiser and magistrate ‘who was devoted to her children’. Jane had an ‘impish sense of humour’, a ‘finely tuned sense of the ridiculous’ and she of course ‘cared about people’. So who wrote this obsequious drivel about a grade A hypocrite who married an even bigger, more successful grade A hypocrite at the centre of a hub of serious corruption? It was none other than Dick Hobbs! Dick Hobbs was formerly a Professor at the University of Essex – I think that he is now in Australia – an ethnographer with a high degree of street cred. His research interest is organised and professional crime, drug markets and bent coppers. Dick Hobbs is famous for having conducted ethnographic research into these matters, which necessitated him involving himself in the life of criminal gangs. Dick Hobbs is a buddy of Laurie Taylor, the sociologist who presents ‘Thinking Allowed’ on Radio 4. Dick Hobbs was interviewed on ‘Thinking Allowed’ a few weeks ago, regarding the ethics of conducting ethnographic research into crime. I’ve conducted quite a bit of it myself Dick. Not of course as a friend of Jane Morgan or as a friend of Laurie Taylor – but as a victim of the fucking criminals whom you all remained silent about whilst you crawled your way into jobs which gave you a platform to mouth off about your caring nature and solidarity with the underclass. Hope you don’t mind me publishing the details of the wrongdoing with which you all colluded – it’s that impish sense of humour of mine.

Laurie Taylor’s son Matthew is the former Head of Blair’s No 10 Policy Unit.

The President of Aber 1997-07 was yet another star of this blog, Lord Elystan-Morgan. Lord Elystan-Morgan was appointed whilst the Waterhouse Inquiry opened and began taking evidence. He remained in post until the dust had settled and a few awkward sods had given up trying to tell anyone who would listen that a huge cover-up had taken place and that Sir Ronnie Waterhouse was a friend and colleagues of many of those who had overseen the ‘services’ or occupied public office whilst things had gone so catastrophically wrong.

Elystan Morgan went to school and university at Aber. He was a law graduate of Aber who worked as a solicitor and barrister. He stood as the Plaid candidate for Wrexham three times, twice in 1955 and once in 1959. He stood as the Plaid candidate for Merioneth in 1964. Elystan Morgan then joined the Labour Party and was elected as the Labour MP for Cardiganshire in 1966. He was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Home Office, 1968-70 – when the Home Office was directly responsible for managing Bryn Estyn. Elystan Morgan was then Chair of the Welsh Parliamentary Labour Party, 1971-74. He lost his seat in Feb 1974 and in 1979 stood as the Labour candidate for Anglesey but lost to the Conservative candidate Keith Best. After that Elystan decided that he’d concentrate on his legal career.

Dr Dafydd Alun Jones unlawfully arrested and imprisoned Mary Wynch in 1979 (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’). When she was finally released from the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, having been fleeced of her property by Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends, Mary went into hiding and began legal action. So the paedophiles’ friends might have been in need of all the help that they could muster after 1979.

Elystan was given a peerage in 1981.

Lord Elystan-Morgan was a Recorder, 1983-87 and a Circuit judge 1987-2003. He worked on the corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit.

Lord Elystan-Morgan is a deacon in the Presbytarian Church of Wales.

The post of President of Aberystwyth is public appointment and will be the concern of the Commissioner for Public Appointments for England and Wales. The Commissioner from 1995-99 was Sir Len Peach, who will have been the most senior person involved with the appointment of Elystan-Morgan. Sir Len Peach was the Chief Executive of the NHS, 1986-89. Whilst Mary Wynch, Alison Taylor and me were raising concerns about criminal activity in the NHS and social services in north Wales. Len Peach was seconded to the Dept of Health in 1985 as the Director of Personnel to the NHS Management Board which was established by Thatcher’s Secretary of State For Health and Social Security Norman Fowler.

In 1992 Len Peach was appointed Chair of the Police Complaints Authority. In 1992 five witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were killed in a petrol bomb attack (see post ‘The Silence of the Welsh Lambs’) and demands were being made for an investigation into the abuse of children in north Wales which did not involve the North Wales Police, as it was alleged that some police officers had abused children themselves and concealed the crimes of others. In 1992 Gordon Anglesea, a senior officer with the North Wales Police, was named on TV by former residents of Bryn Estyn as having sexually abused them whilst they were in Bryn Estyn.

The Principal of Aber during the Waterhouse Inquiry and the aftermath ie. between 1994-2004, was Derec Llywd Morgan, the Derec Llwyd Morgan who wrote the ingratiating entry for Thomas Parry, a previous Principal of Aber, in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography.

Derec was yet another chip off the old block. He went to the Amman Valley County Grammar School in Carmarthenshire, then to UCNW (Bangor University), then to Jesus College, Oxford. He lectured at Aber, then lectured at UCNW in the Welsh Department and in 1989 was appointed Professor of Welsh at Aber. Derec Morgan was Vice-Principal of Aber and was then appointed Principal/Vice-Chancellor.

Derec Morgan served on the Broadcasting Council for Wales; on the Independent Television Commission; on the Court and Council of the National Library of Wales; and on the Sir Kyffin Williams Trust. I barely need to mention that he was a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and a member of the Inaugural Council, although he seems to have missed out on the Medal from the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion.

The President of Aberystwyth University who succeeded Lord Elystan-Morgan in 2007 and who is currently President is the former diplomat Sir Emyr Jones Parry – or Sir Emma – as the ‘Today’ programme on Radio 4 always calls him.

Sir Emma is a physicist who studied at University College Cardiff and then at St Catherines, Cambridge. Whilst he was at Cardiff he was President of the Student Union. Sir Emma joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1973. He has held a number of senior posts there, including the Deputy Political Director responsible for the 1996-97 Balkans and Aegean Policy. I seem to remember that the Balkans was not a rip-roaring success. Sir Emma has also carried out a few stints at the European Parliament. In Jan 2008 he became Chair of Redress, a human rights organisation in London. He was also the UK Ambassador to the UN. He was President of the OU Business School’s International Advisory Board, responsible for the global development of the School. In 2010 Sir Emma was appointed Chair of the Trustees of the Millennium Centre.

Sir Emma is President of the Learned Society of Wales.

The Vice-Chancellors – as they were now calling themselves – who followed Derec Morgan at Aberystwyth University were Noel Lloyd (2004-12), April McMahon (2011-16) and Elizabeth Treasure (2016-present).

In recent years Aberystwyth University has been a very troubled institution. That is true of most universities now that crazy ill-thought out policies, marketisation and new public management have virtually murdered all UK universities, but Aber does seem to have had its own unique style of dysfunction. Which is hardly surprising when one considers the paleontology of that institution. In the 1980s Aber considered itself a cut above Bangor, but more recently it has attracted lurid headlines alleging serious mismanagement, embezzlement of funds, workplace bullying and the squandering of millions on a campus in Mauritius when there wasn’t enough money to do what was necessary in Aberystwyth. A major diplomatic incident occurred when Professor April McMahon was appointed as VC because she couldn’t speak Welsh – although she is a linguist. April said that she’d learn. April left all of a sudden under a huge cloud and now Elizabeth Treasure has arrived. Elizabeth Treasure was previously at Cardiff University and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth as a result of her activities in the medical school there – which had been riddled with corruption for years, so who knows perhaps Elizabeth was just confronting crooked Top Doctors which always ensures that the fur flies. I cannot help wondering whether someone with a sense of humour sent Elizabeth Treasure to Aberystwyth to destroy the place.

Why the old fossils felt the need to form themselves into the Learned Society of Wales in 2010 I do not know, but it was launched at the National Museum of Wales in May 2010 and the Inaugural President was Sir John Cadogan. I noticed it happening at the time but I had no information at all concerning the Learned Ones. They had already all given each other the Medal of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, but obviously felt that their capacity to give each other awards should be increased. I am wondering if perhaps they felt under siege for some reason, that is often the motivating factor behind a new Society for Important People – the Top Doctors excel in this area. I note that Sir John Cadogan is no Welsh poet. He is an organic chemist who has previously worked at the Chemical Defence Establishment Porton Down – a place involved with biological and chemical warfare and particularly cruel animal experiments, a place with such a fearful reputation that most scientists wouldn’t work there, so Porton Down paid through the nose to attract the only people unscrupulous enough to take the filthy lucre – and worked as Chief Scientist for BP. As a reward for his outstanding career in researching new ways of killing lots of people and causing pollution, Sir john Cardogan was awarded a Medal even better than one from the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion – specifically a Royal Medal from Prince Philip, on behalf of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Sir John was also the Chair of Fusion Antibodies Ltd and DNA Research Innovation Ltd. Which is terrifying.

Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Wales, Archbishop of Canterbury and the present Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge is also a member of the Learned Society of Wales.

It is worth having a look at some of those who held the role of Librarian at the National Library of Wales.

Sir John Ballinger – 1909-30. Ballinger from Monmouthshire. He was awarded the Medal of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion. After retiring he moved to Hawarden in Flintshire and advised St Deiniol’s Library.

William Llewelyn Davies – 1930-52. Davies was from Pwllheli and went to university at Aberystwyth. He was assistant librarian under Ballinger and succeeded him. Davies was High Sheriff of Merionethshire in 1951.

David Jenkins – 1969-79. Jenkins went to university at Aber. He had previously worked as an assistant in the library in the late 1930s and then returned to work there again after serving in the Army. Jenkins was the General Commissioner for Income Tax, 1968-69 and Chair of the Welsh Books Council, 1974-80.

R. Geraint Gruffydd – 1980-85. Gruffydd was a graduate of UNCW and Jesus College, Oxford. He was Professor of Welsh Language and Literature at Aberystwyth, 1970-79 and then Emeritus Professor. Gruffydd was Director of the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, 1985-93. He became a fellow of the British Academy in 1991. Gruffydd’s family were Calvinists and his father Moses Griffith was the first Treasurer of Plaid. Gruffydd was a founding fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

Bryn Roberts – 1985-94. Roberts had been a student at Aber and a member of staff there. He became the Professor of Welsh Language and Literature at Swansea. Roberts was Editor of the Dictionary of Welsh Biography in 1987. He was also Vice-Chair of the Welsh Books Council, 1986-89, then Chair 1989-94, then a member 1994-2007; a member of HEFCW, 1993-2000. Bryn was awarded the Medal of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion in 2007.

Andrew Green – 1998-13. Green had previously been the librarian at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth 1973-74; the University College Cardiff 1985-89; the University of Sheffield 1989-92; the Director of the Library and Information Services at the University of Wales, Swansea 1992-98. Green learnt to speak Welsh fluently and in 2009 became a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards.

There are numerous other links and relationships between members of the Aberystwyth network that I have not provided here because there just isn’t the scope for it on this blog. However I hope to have conveyed how extensive and suffocating this network was and its connections with people far grander than lecturers in rural Welsh universities. Anyone crossing the path of this lot was stuffed at every turn, often by people with smiles on their faces. Whilst researching for this post I couldn’t help noticing how many people in the network were actually part of the network in which Trumpers was a key figure – people who were friends with the Lloyd George family, the Astors and who had been to University College School in Hampstead.

I need to mention who the Chancellor of the University of Wales was during many of the latter years of this madness. It was Prince Charles.
