The Defence Of The Realm

The British media have been overwhelmed by the birth of the latest addition to the Royal Family, William and Kate’s baby son, Louis. Louis has been named after Lord Louis Mountbatten – Prince Philip’s uncle – who was a substantial influence on his grand-nephew, Prince Charles. People of my vintage will remember that the press used to report on the close relationship that Prince Charles had with Lord Mountbatten and how Mountbatten fulfilled the role of Charles’s ‘honorary grandfather’. Mountbatten was killed by the IRA in 1979 and Charles was very deeply upset – he was famously photographed in tears at Mountbatten’s funeral.

Mountbatten was 79 years old when he was killed – he was a figure from Britain’s Imperial past, the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma and the Viceroy of India.

From the time of his birth in 1900 until 1917, when he and several other relations of King George V dropped their German styles and titles, Mountbatten was known as His Serene Highness Prince Louis of Battenberg. He was the youngest child of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine.  His sister was Princess Alice of Battenberg, mother of Prince Philip.

Mountbatten’s nickname among family and friends was ‘Dickie’, although ‘Richard’ was not among his given names. This was because his great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, had suggested the nickname of ‘Nicky’, but to avoid confusion with the many Nickys of the Russian Imperial Family, ‘Nicky’ was changed to ‘Dickie’. Queen Victoria was one of his godparents, as was Nicholas II of Russia and Prince Francis Joseph of Battenberg.

Mountbatten was educated at home for the first 10 years of his life. Then he was sent to Lockers Park School and on to the Royal Naval College, Osborne. In childhood he visited the Imperial Court of Russia and became close to the doomed Russian Imperial Family. He kept a photo of his cousin Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna at his bedside for the rest of his life.

In July 1916 Mountbatten was posted as midshipman and saw action in WWI.

In 1917 when the Royal Family adopted the name ‘Windsor’, Mountbatten’s father Prince Louis of Battenberg became known as Louis Mountbatten. Mountbatten acquired the courtesy title of Lord Louis Mountbatten – in 1946 he received a peerage, making him a ‘real’ Lord Louis Mountbatten.

After WWI, Mountbatten undertook a short course for ex-servicemen at Christ’s College, Cambridge. He was elected for a term to the standing committee of the Cambridge Union Society and was suspected of being sympathetic to the Labour Party.

In 1920 Mountbatten accompanied Edward, Prince of Wales, on a Royal tour of Australia on the battlecruiser to which Mountbatten had been posted. In 1921 he accompanied the Prince of Wales on a Royal tour of India and Japan – Edward and Mountbatten formed a close friendship during the tour. In 1923 Mountbatten was posted to the Mediterranean Fleet and in 1924 he briefly studied at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Mountbatten continued with his Naval career and then in June 1936 was appointed Personal Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VIII. In July 1936 he joined the Naval Air Division of the Admiralty.

Mountbatten saw action again in WWII. He was involved in the Battle of Crete and the sinking of Mountbatten’s ship by German dive bombers in 1941 served as the basis for one of Noel Coward’s films. Coward was a personal friend of Mountbatten. Mountbatten was a favourite of Churchill and in 1941 Mountbatten became Chief of Combined Operations. In Aug 1943, Churchill appointed Mountbatten as the Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia Command with promotion to acting full Admiral.

In Feb 1947, Clement Attlee appointed Mountbatten as Viceroy of India with responsibility for overseeing the transfer of power and independence. Mountbatten concluded that a united India was not possible and prepared for partition. When India and Pakistan attained independence in Aug 1997, Mountbatten stayed on in New Delhi for ten months, serving as India’s first Governor-General.

Mountbatten’s record regarding India is seen as very mixed. One common view is that he hastened the independence process unduly and recklessly, foreseeing vast disruption and loss of life and not wanting this to occur on the British watch, but thereby actually helping it to occur, especially in Punjab and Bengal. J.K. Galbraith, the Harvard economist who advised the Governments of India during the 1950s and who served as the American Ambassador, 1961-63, was a particularly harsh critic of Mountbatten.

Rhodri Morgan was at Harvard in the early 1960s, undertaking an MA in Gov’t. He will have studied with Galbraith’s colleagues.

After India, Mountbatten served as Commander of the 1st Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean Fleet and, having been granted the substantive rank of Vice-Admiral in June 1949, he became Second-in-Command of the Mediterranean Fleet in April 1950. He became Fourth Sea Lord at the Admiralty in June 1950. He then returned to the Mediterranean to serve as Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet and NATO Commander, Allied Forces Mediterranean from June 1952. Mountbatten was promoted to the substantive rank of full Admiral in Feb 1953. In March 1953, he was appointed Personal Aide-de-Camp to HM the Queen.

Mountbatten served his final posting at the Admiralty as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff from April 1955-July 1959. He was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet in Oct 1956.

I have discussed in previous posts how many of those who concealed the criminality of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and the paedophiles had served in the Royal Navy or had links with the Admiralty. Of course lots of people have served in the Royal Navy, but one name repeatedly came to mind whilst I was reading the details of Mountbatten’s Naval career – Admiral Sir Alec Bingley.

Sir Alec was the husband of Lady Juliet Bingley and the father of William Bingley. Lady Juliet and William Bingley colluded with and concealed the organised sexual abuse of children and psychiatric patients and the associated serious criminal activity during the many years when they occupied senior roles at MIND and William Bingley continued this valuable service for Dafydd and the paedophiles when he was appointed Chief Executive of the Mental Health Act Commission (see posts ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health – Never For Themselves Of Course’ and ‘Additional Security Measures’).

Lady Juliet was certainly well-connected – she was a personal friend of Dom Mintoff, the PM of Malta and acted as a ‘messenger’ between him and the British Gov’t. The Bingleys had lived in Malta when Sir Alec was stationed there. A number of people involved with the north Wales and other UK paedophile rings who were convicted of child sex offences had retired to Malta. Lady Juliet was a former medical almoner (social worker) and her father had been a Top Doctor at Barts.

There are photos available of Louis Mountbatten in Malta, but I don’t know if he was stationed there like Sir Alec.

Sir Alec, like Mountbatten, had a long and distinguished career in the Navy. Sir Alec was five years younger than Lord Mountbatten and joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1918. He served in WWII on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief of the Home Fleet. In 1943 and 1944 Sir Alec was Commander of aircraft carriers and in 1945 he was Commander of the Mobile Naval Air Base HMS Nabaron. After the war he was Deputy Director of Air Warfare. He went on to be Chief of Staff to the Flag Officer (Air) and then Commander of the aircraft-carrier HMS Eagle in 1952.

Sir Alec was appointed Fifth Sea Lord and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Air) in 1954 and Flag Officer, Aircraft Carriers in 1958. He was made Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet and NATO Commander, Allied Forces Mediterranean in 1959 and then Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth and Allied Commander-in-Chief, Channel in 1961; Sir Alec retired in 1963.

So Sir Alec – as Fifth Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Air Services, 1954-56 – served directly under Mountbatten.

The names of two other people who served as First Sea Lord jumped out at me as well – Admiral Sir David Luce, First Sea Lord 1963-66 and Admiral of the Fleet Sir Michael Le Fanu, First Sea Lord, 1968-70. Sir David Luce is the uncle of Lord Richard Luce, a member of Thatcher’s Cabinet who held Ministerial positions in the Foreign Office (see post ‘The International Language Of Screaming’). The comedian Miranda Hart is Richard Luce’s niece. Go on Miranda, do that face that you do for the camera! Do you still feel like making jokes about sad lonely women who are desperate to get engaged now that I’ve outed your extended family as concealing a paedophile gang? Don’t forget that little song and dance routine that you seem to do at the end of every episode, you know when you hold hands with your mum and your flat mate…

I think that Sir Michael Le Fanu is related to the Top Doctor James Le Fanu – Sir Michael is possibly James Le Fanu’s father. James Le Fanu is known as a Top Doc of right wing views who scribbles for ‘The Spectator’ and the Torygraph and enjoys being controversial. In the early 1990s James Le Fanu was a partner in a GPs practice in Trevelyan Road, Tooting and for all I know he may still be. How do I know? Because it was the GPs practice that I was registered with when I was working at St George’s Hospital Medical School, 1989-91. The St George’s who had employed Professor Oliver Brooke as their Professor of Paediatrics, who in 1986 was imprisoned for the possession of a vast quantity of child porn. Brooke was a key figure in a pan-European paedophile ring. Brooke was convicted and imprisoned but his colleagues at St George’s continued to conceal the paedophile ring of which Brooke was a member.

One of the the GPs from Le Fanu’s practice also held an academic position at the Dept of General Practice at St George’s. A female GP in Le Fanu’s practice in 1991 refused to treat me when I went to see her after Springfield Hospital – the mental health unit attached to St George’s – told me that I was going to be discharged without any treatment. Documents in my possession demonstrate that Drs Robin Jacobson and Alice Levinson, as well as Professor Nigel Eastman – all of St George’s/Springfield – knew that Dr Dafydd Alun Jones was sexually exploiting patients and they also suspected that Dr Tony Francis (Dr X) was as well. Jacobson, Levinson and Eastman were well aware of how serious the criminality in north Wales was and were directly in contact with Dafydd, Tony Francis and Lucille Hughes. Dr Ruth White worked with the same team and will also have known, but I only have documentary evidence written by Jacobson, Levinson and Eastman (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London…’)

Le Fanu has written about ‘the fall of medicine’, which he attributes to ‘The New Genetics’ and to the ‘social theory’ of public health, such as the work of Ancel Keys. Do you know Dr Le Fanu, I think that the dreadful state of medicine has far more to do with the medical establishment colluding with serious criminality and research fraud, just as your colleagues in Trevelyan Road did.

Le Fanu will have known about Oliver Brooke and also the research fraud at St George’s perpetrated by Malcolm Pearce and Geoffrey Chamberlain (see post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK’). Le Fanu will also know that after Pearce was struck off and Chamberlain resigned as President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, there was another scandal in the same Dept, so the Dept was closed down. It continued!! The Academic Dept of Obs and Gynae was closed but of course the Top Docs continued with their clinical work and then Rashmi Varma, the Top Doc who ran the fertility clinic, found herself in front of the GMC after it was alleged that she pressurised NHS patients into donating eggs for private patients. The GMC cleared her, but nonetheless Varma returned to her home country of India after declaring that she had ‘enemies’ in Britain who didn’t like her because she was female and Indian. Years later I met someone who had been working at St George’s during the Varma scandal who told me that she was undoubtedly guilty and was amassing a fortune by exploiting desperate infertile patients. It was true that Varma had enemies, but as the man who was on the scene at the time observed, they were all a bunch of complete bastards who were at each others throats.

Then there was Tony Francis’s mate Prof Hamid Ghodse who was working at St George’s and Springfield – the Hamid who was involved in drug dealing and distribution (see post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent’).

One can only wonder what Frank Ball, the HR officer at St George’s, was doing throughout all this. I know some of what Frank was doing in 1990. He was complaining about me to my boss after I went to see him and showed him the abusive notes that had been left for me in my lab by another member of staff. Better to complain about me than deal with a gang of paedophiles employed in the medical school then Frank!

Readers who follow the comments section of this blog will have noticed that recently someone stated that there are allegations that Lord Mountbatten was the member of the British Royal Family who was alleged to be abusing the residents of Kincora Boys’ Home in Belfast. It was admitted in the 1985 Hughes Report that boys were sexually abused and prostituted at Kincora by a number of people.

Dr Morris Fraser, the Belfast child psychiatrist who was a member of PIE and convicted of child abuse, abused boys at Kincora. After the GMC failed to strike Fraser off the register in spite of his convictions for child sex offences, Fraser moved to England and worked as a psychiatrist at Springfield Hospital and UCH. The counsel for the GMC at Fraser’s fitness to practice hearing was Patrick Mayhew. Mayhew later became the Tory MP for Tunbridge Wells, the Solicitor General, 1983-87, the Attorney General, 1987-92 under Margaret Thatcher and then John Major and Secretary of State for N Ireland, 1992-97. It was Mayhew who as Attorney General authorised two prosecutions of me for contempt of court, although in both cases it was admitted that perjury had been committed. The perjurers were Dr Tony Francis, Dr Sadie Francis, Keith Fearns, Maggie Fookes, Bob Ingham and Jackie Brandt. No action was taken against any of them.

More recently it has been admitted that the boys at Kincora were abused by senior officers of the British Army, the RUC and Whitehall civil servants. It is alleged that Anthony Blunt – the Cambridge spy and art historian formerly responsible for the Royal Collection – molested boys at Kincora and that groups of gay men from the mainland used to go on jollies to Kincora.

The 1985 Hughes Report stated that the sort of abuse occurring at Kincora was occurring in children’s homes across the whole of the UK. Many of the gangs involved were linked.

When Mountbatten was murdered by the IRA in 1979, it was presumed that he had been targeted because he was a member of the Royal Family and comments made by Gerry Adams supported this view. However, others have claimed that Mountbatten was killed because of his involvement in the abuse at Kincora.

After leaving the Admiralty, Lord Mountbatten took up the position of Chief of the Defence Staff. He served in this post for six years during which he was able to consolidate the three service departments of the military branch into a single MoD. Mountbatten was appointed Colonel of the Life Guards, Gold Stick in Waiting and Life Colonel Commandant of the Royal Marines in 1965. He was Governor of the Isle of Wight from 20 July 1965 and then the first Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight from 1 April 1974.

Between 1967-78, Mountbatten was president of the United World Colleges Organisation, then represented by a single college – Atlantic College in south Wales, the alma mater of the Baroness of Ely aka Eluned Morgan, who believes that she should be Wales’s next FM on the grounds that she is in possession of ovaries (see post ‘The Old Devils’). In 1978, Mountbatten passed the Presidency of the College to his great-nephew, the Prince of Wales.

In his book ‘Spycatcher’, Peter Wright claimed that in May 1968 Mountbatten attended a private meeting with press baron Cecil King and the Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser, Solly Zuckerman. Wright alleged that ‘up to thirty’ MI5 officers had joined a secret campaign to undermine the crisis-stricken Labour government of Harold Wilson and that King was an MI5 agent. In the meeting, King allegedly urged Mountbatten to become the leader of a Government of national salvation. Solly Zuckerman pointed out that it was ‘rank treachery’ and the idea came to nothing because of Mountbatten’s reluctance to act.

In 2006, the BBC documentary ‘The Plot Against Harold Wilson’ alleged that there had been another plot involving Mountbatten to oust Wilson during his second term in office (1974–76). The alleged plot revolved around right wing former military figures who were supposedly building private armies to counter the perceived threat from trade unions and the Soviet Union. They believed that the Labour Party, which was and still is partly funded by affiliated trade unions, was unable and unwilling to counter these developments and that Wilson was either a Soviet agent or at the very least a Communist sympathiser – claims that Wilson strongly denied. The documentary alleged that a coup was planned to overthrow Wilson and replace him with Mountbatten using the private armies and sympathisers in the military and MI5.

The first official history of MI5, ‘The Defence Of The Realm’ (2009), tacitly confirmed that there was a plot against Wilson and that MI5 did have a file on him. Yet it also made clear that the plot was in no way official and that any activity centred on a small group of discontented officers. This much had already been confirmed by former Cabinet Secretary Lord Hunt, who concluded in a secret inquiry conducted in 1996 that ‘there is absolutely no doubt at all that a few, a very few, malcontents in MI5…a lot of them like Peter Wright who were right-wing, malicious and had serious personal grudges – gave vent to these and spread damaging malicious stories about that Labour government.’

The security services certainly seemed to have been doing some rather odd things at this time. It is widely believed that the bizarre Old Bailey trial of the then leader of the Young Liberals Peter Hain for bank robbery in 1976 was the result of a fit-up by the security services because of Hain’s anti-apartheid activism. The judge who presided over Hain’s trial, Sir Alan King-Hamilton, was a notoriously dreadful old git and felt able to insult Peter Hain, although the charges against him were demonstrated to be ludicrous and he was acquitted.

Fred Holroyd, an MI6 officer who served in N Ireland in the 1970s, alleges that he was detained in a psychiatric hospital in order to discredit him because he was a witness to serious wrongdoing by the authorities in N Ireland. Holroyd maintains that there was a civil war between different factions of MI5 at the time and that there was a plot among some MI5 officers to destabilise Harold Wilson’s Gov’t.

My interest is in the collusion of the security services with the criminal activities of Dafydd and the paedophiles, which undoubtedly happened. Whilst it is clear that there were a number of people in very senior positions who were abusing children and no doubt at the time they were protected because of their positions, I suspect that the reason why there is still so much reluctance to admit the extent of the problem and the associated cover-up isn’t because anyone really wants to protect dead paedophiles but because no-one wants to fess up that the medical and legal establishment were in this up to their necks. What would we do if the general public lost trust in the Top Docs and the judiciary? Answer – they’d be able to protect themselves, which Brown and I as well as scores of other much more vulnerable people than us were not able to do so. They were forced into prostitution and then found dead. Public safety should have been prioritised, not public confidence in the medical profession. People died because criminal Top Doctors were protected by corrupt lawyers and judges and were allowed to continue with their very serious wrongdoing.

Dafydd Alun Jones is still on the medical register. The bickering over the future of the derelict North Wales Hospital Denbigh continues, whilst the bodies of some of the victims are still buried out there.

Mountbatten married Edwina Ashley, the granddaughter of Sir Ernest Cassel and heir to his fortune, in 1922. Mountbatten stated that ‘Edwina and I spent all our married lives getting into other people’s beds’. I don’t mind how many beds of consenting adults either of them climbed into, but I’m seriously pissed off that Brown, I and some of our friends have had so much grief because we trod on the toes of the people who were facilitating a branch of the trafficking ring with which it is alleged that Mountbatten was involved.

Lord and Lady Mountbatten had two daughters, Patricia Knatchbull, sometime lady-in-waiting to HM the Queen and Lady Pamela Hicks, also sometime lady-in-waiting to the Queen.

Sir Peter Morrison’s sister Dame Mary Morrison spent most of her life as lady-in-waiting to HM the Queen. Then there was the Queen Mum’s loyal servant, Backstairs Billy (satirised in Viz as Backdoor Billy), who died of an HIV related illness.

Furthermore Prince Charles had a deep and meaningful friendship with Jimmy Savile and took advice from Savile re the marital discord between him and Diana. Why Charles thought that a necrophiliac paedophile who had never had anything remotely like a normal relationship himself would make a good marriage guidance councillor I don’t know. It’s not even as if he was Laurens van der Post. Although after van der Post died it was revealed that he fathered a baby with the 14 year old girl after her parents had appointed him as her guardian. As Charles would say in the ‘Private Eye’ ‘Heir of Sorrows’ stories, ‘It really is appalling’.

I don’t know what is going on in the Royal Family, but if I was Kate I’d get the hell out of there along with the baby and change his name.

In his capacity as mentor to the young Prince Charles, Mountbatten encouraged Charles to enjoy the bachelor life and ‘sow his wild oats’ while he could and then marry a ‘young and inexperienced girl’ so as to ensure a stable married life. Er, yes. That particular plan backfired big time.

Mountbatten fancied himself as a marriage bureau for the Royals. It was he who had arranged the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Dartmouth Royal Naval College in July 1939, taking care to include the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret in the invitation, but assigning his nephew, Cadet Prince Philip of Greece, to keep them amused while their parents toured the facility. This was the first recorded meeting of Charles’s future parents. Mountbatten’s efforts nearly came to nothing when a few months later he received a letter from his sister Alice in Athens informing him that Philip was visiting her and had agreed to permanently repatriate to Greece. Within days, Philip received a command from his cousin and sovereign, King George II of Greece, to resume his naval career in Britain which, though given without explanation, the young Phil obeyed.

In 1974, Mountbatten began corresponding with Charles about a potential marriage to his granddaughter, the Hon Amanda Knatchbull. After years of beating about the bush, in 1979 Charles did propose to Amanda but she turned him down. Unlike Di, she must have known what she would have been letting herself in for.

Mountbatten usually holidayed at his summer home, Classiebawn Castle, in County Sligo, Ireland. In 1978, the IRA had allegedly attempted to shoot Mountbatten as he was aboard his boat, but ‘choppy seas had prevented the sniper lining up his target’.

On 27 August 1979, Mountbatten went fishing in his wooden boat, which had been moored in the harbour at Mullaghmore. IRA member Thomas McMahon had slipped onto the unguarded boat that night and attached a radio-controlled bomb weighing 50 pounds. When Mountbatten was aboard, just a few hundred yards from the shore, the bomb was detonated. The boat was destroyed by the force of the blast and Mountbatten’s legs were almost blown off. Mountbatten was pulled alive from the water by nearby fishermen, but died from his injuries before being brought to shore. Also aboard the boat were his elder daughter Patricia (Lady Brabourne), her husband John (Lord Brabourne), their twin sons Nicholas and Timothy Knatchbull, John’s mother Doreen (Lady Brabourne) and Paul Maxwell, a young crew member from County Fermanagh. Nicholas (aged 14) and Paul (aged 15) were killed by the blast and the others were seriously injured. Doreen (aged 83) died from her injuries the following day.

Just for the record, no matter what Mountbatten had been involved in, they shouldn’t have done it. Although Dr D.G.E. Wood should most definitely be behind bars.

Now Blair, time to come clean about the details of the shabby deal that you thrashed out which led to the Good Friday Agreement but ensured that the truth about Kincora was buried. Along with the victims and witnesses.

Now I’ll revisit someone who has been featured previously on this blog but deserves another outing – Virginia Bottomley. Virginia was of course Health Secretary under John Major, 9 April 1992 – 5 July 1995. That was before devolution, so I will repeat my appeal for Virginia to come forward and explain why everyone was told that the North Wales Hospital Denbigh was closed down when it wasn’t and of course for her to let us know why Dafydd was allowed to ‘retire’ in a deal which guaranteed that none of the very serious complaints about him would be followed up and into the bargain gave his charity CAIS the contract for providing ‘substance abuse services’ for north Wales (see post ‘The Evolution Of A Drugs Baron?’). Virginia might also like to shed light on the stitching up of patient F as detailed in my post ‘Killing Floor – I Know Cos I Was There!’, because that happened on her watch as well. As did the declaration by the North Wales Police that there was ‘no evidence’ of a paedophile ring in the region, although social workers were being convicted of offences against children in care and former kids in care were being found dead.

Virginia was born in Dunoon, Scotland, to Barbara Rutherford-Smith, a teacher and elected Conservative member of the ILEA and W. John Garnett, former Director of what was then called The Industrial Society.

Bottomley was educated at Putney High School, before going to the University of Essex. She later completed an MA at the LSE. Early in her career she worked life as a researcher for the Child Poverty Action Group, which was established by Peter Townsend and Brian Abel-Smith, two people who knew about the abuse of children and patients at the hands of the state but who ignored it (see post ‘The Old Devils’). Virginia also worked as a psychiatric social worker so she will have been complicit with that abuse. Bottomley was a magistrate and Chairman of the Inner London Juvenile Court. So Virginia had all avenues of escape from abusers nicely stitched up.

Virginia was elected to Parliament in a by-election in 1984 as the Tory MP for South West Surrey. That constituency covers Haslemere which I think is the stomping ground of Professor Vincent Marks – at least he was involved with the U3A there, so I presume that he is located nearby. Vincent not only knew about wrongdoing and research fraud in cancer research, but his brother John Marks was President of the BMA whilst the BMA were colluding with attempts to fit me up for serious offences (see posts ‘The Blog Post That Was Hacked Can Now Be Read’, ‘Cottaging At Castle Gate’ and ‘Gwlad y Menig Gwynion’).

Someone else used to live near Haslemere as well when Ginny was the MP for that constituency – me. It was whilst I was living in Ginny’s constituency that I was targeted by a serial sex offender and Alun Davies was using subterfuge to access my home address and of course whilst the BMA were colluding with the criminality in north Wales.

Ginny was PPS to Chris Patten. Patten’s wife – Lady Lavender Patten of Barnes – was later Patron of Prof Mark Williams’s Oxford Mindfulness Centre. Mark Williams established that Centre on the back of a research fraud that he carried out when he was a clinical psychologist working with the Dafydd and the paedophiles in Bangor in the late 1980s (see post ‘The Biggest Expert Of The Lot’). Whilst Lavender was Mark’s Patron, Chris Patten was Chancellor of Oxford University, where Mark Williams was employed and of which the Centre was a part of.

Ginny then moved on to work as PPS to Foreign Secretary Geoffrey Howe. Who before he entered politics was a barrister on the corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit, whose members concealed the crimes of Dafydd and the paedophiles. Geoffrey Howe was a lifelong close friend of Sir Ronnie Waterhouse, who performed the mother of all cover-ups when he Chaired the Waterhouse Inquiry. Waterhouse became a friend of Howe when they were students and in later life Waterhouse was entertained by Howe at Number 11, Chevening and Dorneywood. Howe helped Dafydd and the paedophiles out when he was Solicitor General, 1970-72 and he was a member of Thatcher’s Gov’t at the same time as Sir Peter Morrison, whilst Morrison was attending sex parties with kids in care, including in north Wales. Whilst Howe was Foreign Secretary, Morrison held positions as Minister of State for Employment, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Deputy Tory Party Chairman and Minister of State for Energy (see post ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’).

Geoffrey Howe was the constituency MP for a Surrey constituency, as was Sir Michael Grylls. Both of them knew about Sir Peter Morrison’s activities and Dafydd and the paedophiles. In my post ‘An Appalling Vista’ I explained why I am wondering if they were involved in the fit-up of patient F.

Ginny was appointed Minister of State at the DoH in 1989, so her knowledge of Dafydd, the paedophiles and the dungeon at Denbigh will have been gained before she was Secretary of State. Ginny will also have known that two successive Whitehall mandarins with responsibility for mental health – Brian McGinnis and Cliff Graham – were corrupt, concealing serious crime and facilitating organised sexual abuse within the mental health system (see post ‘The Old Devils’). Ginny will have known about the violence, abuse and murders in the special hospitals as well and that William Bingley was concealing the lot, as well as the activities of Dafydd et al in north Wales, in his role as Chief Executive of the Mental Health Act Commission (see post ‘Security, Security’). By 1989 Gwynedd Health Authority was in such chaos that it was the subject of questions in the House (see post ‘A Visit To Gwynedd Archives’). Ginny will have known…

Bottomley served as Secretary of State for National Heritage, 1995-97. In 1997 she returned to the backbenches and also become a headhunter at executive headhunting firm Odgers. Since 2000 Ginny has been Chair of Board Practice at Odgers Berndtson.

Ginny might like to illuminate another shady deal. Some nine years ago, Bangor University paid Todgers a great deal of money to headhunt a Director for the grand new Arts Centre that it was building, Pontio. Pontio was a huge multi-million pound development and was planned to serve the town of Bangor as well as the University. There is bugger all in terms of that sort of Centre in north west Wales and Pontio serves as the Students’ Union, the theatre, the art gallery, the cinema and also provides facilities for teaching, research and businesses. Todgers were tasked with supplying a Mr Big to direct development of Pontio in the early stages. It was Professor Fergus Lowe – who built his empire on his knowledge of the wrongdoing of Dafydd and the paedophiles – who went to Todgers, because Fungus was Thinking Big.

Todgers headhunted an utter twat. The twat had no understanding that Gwynedd was a bilingual region and he was completely disrespectful and insensitive to Welsh speakers. When he was told that he had to take their wishes into consideration he started whinging on about how they were going to burn his house down and refused to meet the Welsh speakers for discussions. Then he insulted the Students’ Union reps with whom he was supposed to be negotiating and made it quite clear that they were somewhere between the black plastic bin liner and the tea lady. After months of chaos, protests and demos, the twat from Todgers parted company with Bangor University and someone else was brought in to clear up the mess.

At the time the havoc was blamed on Fungus because no-one liked him anyway, but those in the know told me that Todgers behaved disgracefully and really screwed up. The twat from Todgers arrived just at the time that the paedophiles’ friends declared war on the VC, who had dared challenge them.

Todgers’ contribution to Pontio cost a great deal of money and delayed the building by many months.

Do you happen to know why Todgers sent a twat to Bangor University to cause discord, bad publicity and much embarrassment Virginia?

Bottomley has held numerous positions, including that of a non-executive Director of BUPA, 2007-13; a Vice-Patron of Carers and of Cruse Bereavement Care and a lay Canon of Guildford Cathedral.

Bottomley’s brother, Christopher Garnett, was Chief Executive of the train operating company GNER. Her cousins include Peter Jay, the former British Ambassador to the US and son-in-law of James Callaghan and Lord Hunt of Chesterton (Labour), father of Labour MP and historian Tristram Hunt. More distant relatives include Lord Oakeshott (Lib Dem) and Baron Jay of Ewelme, former British Ambassador to France. Dame Julia Cleverdon married Bottomley’s father, John. Her husband’s niece is Kitty Ussher, a former Blairite Labour minister (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part V’).

Virginia has three children, Cecilia, Adela and Joshua.

Cecilia Bottomley is a Top Doctor, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist who works at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. Cecilia is also involved in private practice and has worked for BUPA – well her mum was a Director of that company – and at the Lister Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare.

There is a Josh Bottomley who is has worked for Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, and as MD for LexisNexis and for The Financial Times Group. Josh then became Global Head of Display for Google in California and in 2012 was appointed Global Head of Digital for HSBC.

Virginia’s husband is Peter Bottomley, who was Tory MP for Woolwich West, then Eltham and is at present the MP for Worthing West. Peter Bottomley was born in Shropshire and his mother was a social worker. So he’ll know that there was organised child abuse in Shropshire linked to the north Wales gang that stretched back decades. In the early 1970s Bottomley founded the Neighbourhood Council in south Lambeth – when the kids in care were being abused both in children’s homes in Lambeth and also when they were sent on placement by Lambeth to north Wales.

Between 1978-80, Peter Bottomley was the President of the Conservative Trade Unionists. He was a Trustee with Christian Aid, 1978-84. Peter was for some years a member of the Monday Club, despite disagreeing with their policies on immigration, race relations, Rhodesia and South Africa. So one wonders why he bothered to join. He has been Chairman of the Church of England’s Children’s Society, a Trustee of MIND and of NACRO, another organisation which has done many a favour for the paedophiles and their friends (see post ‘Inside Information About A Hergest Unit Death’). Bottomley has also served on the policy committee of One Parent Families. He served on the successor committee to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s commission Faith in the City and Chaired the Churches’ review group on the Churches Main Committee. Bottomley is a member of the Ecclesiastical Committee and has been appointed the Parliamentary Warden at St. Margaret’s Church, Westminster. He is Vice Chair of WATCH, Women and the Church, supporting full equal acceptance of ‘females’. In which case he might like to go and have a word with them down at St David’s in Pembrokeshire, because they’re giving the new Bishop there a really bad time because she has the temerity to be a woman.

Following the 1983 General Election, Peter Bottomley became the PPS to the Secretary of State at the DHSS, Norman Fowler. So Peter Bottomley knows all about Dafydd and the paedophiles from his time as Fowler’s bag carrier then.

Bottomley was a junior Minister at the Dept of Employment, 1984-86. So he worked alongside Peter Morrison whilst Morrison was a Minister in that Dept. In 1989 Bottomley worked in the N Ireland Office and then in 1990 he spent a brief time as PPS to Peter Brooke, the Secretary of State for N Ireland…

Bottomley has been a member of Mental Health Groups in Parliament.

Bottomley’s brother was a Councillor in the paedophile-ridden Borough of Lambeth and his brother-in-law was the Mayor of Cambridge, a post also occupied by Trumpers (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’). In 1997 Keith Laverack, a senior manager of Cambridgeshire Social Services was imprisoned for child abuse (see post ‘The Mentor’). Laverack was imprisoned by the appalling Judge Huw Daniel, who spent years providing an excellent service to the paedophiles’ friends of north Wales. I’m still waiting for Huw to tell us all why Laverack was hung out to dry but the rest of them were protected.

In 1989 Peter Bottomley successfully sued ‘The Mail On Sunday’, the ‘ Daily Express’ and ‘News Of The World’ over allegations connected with his support of the union membership of a social worker in his constituency accused of ‘misbehaviour’ in a children’s home. In 1995 he was awarded £40,000 against the ‘Sunday Express’ for an article that depicted him as having behaved in a treacherously disloyal and disreputable manner in connection with Sinn Fein/the IRA.

Previous posts have detailed some of the activities of Sir William Mars-Jones, a member of the judiciary who, like Huw Daniel, originated from north Wales and was a good friend to Dafydd and the paedophiles. My post ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ described how in my collection of documents I have found letters with details of people who dared complain about the North Wales Hospital Denbigh which were CC’d to a Mrs D. Mars-Jones. I think that Mrs D. Mars-Jones was a member of Clwyd Health Authority, but even so, she should not have been party to some of the confidential information about patients which was being made available to her.

I could not work out who Mrs D. Mars-Jones was. William Mars-Jones’s wife was called Sheila, but I wondered if she used another name as well. William Mars-Jones was the son of the man who ran the Post Office in Llansannan, Denbighshire and was born William Jones. He only metamorphosed into Mars-Jones when he became a barrister and wanted to be rather more than a common or garden Jones. I thus presumed that he was the only Mars-Jones and therefore Mrs D must have been his wife.

However, I have uncovered some more Mars-Jones’s – they are agricultural merchants from Denbigh. One of them is a David Mars-Jones of Llansannan, Denbigh who was High Sheriff of Clwyd in 1989. Llansannan was the birth place of William Mars-Jones. I can only presume that in the wake of William becoming a big shot, some other members of his family took a leaf out of his book and also called themselves Mars-Jones. David Mars-Jones was born in Llansannan in 1919 – William Mars-Jones was born in 1915. Was David his younger brother? I think it highly likely that Mrs D. Mars-Jones was Mrs David Mars-Jones.

Someone who will know about the Mars-Jones’s is Ieuan Wyn Jones, the former MP and AM for Ynys Mon, leader of Plaid and Deputy PM. Ieuan comes from Denbigh, so Ieuan knows all about Dafydd and the paedophiles’ as well. Not that Ieuan has ever mentioned a word about their wrongdoing, even during those years when Ieuan was working as a solicitor just down the road in Ruthin, in the same practice as paedophiles’ friend and Freemason, David Jones (see post ‘The Right Honourable David Jones MP’).

Ieuan’s friend Bob Parry probably knows the Mars-Jones’s as well. Bob Parry was for many years the Deputy President and then President of the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW).

Bob Parry is also a longstanding member of the famously dysfunctional Anglesey County Council, so Bob might know something about those Chinese babies who some years ago were so readily available for adoption by people living on Anglesey who were in possession of the right amount of dosh (see post ‘The Old Devils’).

Bob Parry was elected as the Chairman of the Isle of Anglesey County Council for 2016/17. Here he is, looking particularly delighted at the prospect of office:

bob parry chairman

Cllr Parry first became a member of the Isle of Anglesey Borough Council in 1981 as a Plaid Cymru councillor, representing the communities of Bryngwran and Gwalchmai. He served as Mayor of the Borough Council in 1989/90.

As Bob was involved with Anglesey County Council as far back as the 1980s, perhaps he can remember the case of the teenaged boy who was fostered by a family on Anglesey, made to work on the farm as hard as an adult full time farm worker and was tied to the beams of the barn and whipped when the foster carers were displeased with him. Do you know how such people were ever deemed to be suitable as foster carers Bob, because Anglesey County Council had something to do with that decision.

A former Leader and Deputy Leader of the County Council, Cllr Parry has previously held both the Environment and Planning portfolios on the Authority’s Executive.

Bob will therefore be able to explain some of the eccentric planning decisions which have been a hallmark of Anglesey County Council for decades. One of Bob’s fellow Councillors became a millionaire as a result of such decisions – I think it was one of those who went to prison. Never mind, his money will still be there for him when he comes out, it’s not as if Huw Daniel is going to made a confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime legislation is it.

Guess who it was who was the first person who told me that ‘there is massive corruption in Anglesey County Council, particularly in the planning department?’ It was Dr D.G.E. Wood no less, in about 1983. Well he should know, he was a corrupt Top Doctor who owned one of the most expensive houses on Anglesey. It was an incredibly vulgar new build and I imagine that someone must have been bribed to have got the plans for that through the planning committee. Not that Wood will have done the bribing – not on that occasion at least – because the house was already built when Wood moved in. Brown and me had walked past that house every evening on our daily stroll for months and had pissed ourselves laughing at it, because it was called ‘IX Ranch’ for some unfathomable reason. Then one day a slate sign with the name ‘Tyddyn Hen Farm’ appeared at the end of the drive and we realised that IX Ranch had changed hands. We were gobsmacked when we found out that it was Wood and his wife who had purchased it, although Brown observed ‘it’s just their sort of house isn’t it’. Indeed it was. Lavish and blinging, purchased from the proceeds of a sex trafficking ring.

Wood was last heard of living in an even grander house near Conwy. He’s probably bought Penrhyn Castle off the National Trust by now.

Bob Parry represents the Bryngwran ward. He is also Director of the Bryngwran Cymunedol social enterprise which runs the Iorwerth Arms pub in the village.

So Bob Parry will know Dr Delyth Morris aka Duckula, who lives at Bryngwran. Duckula is a paedophiles’ friend and was a social worker employed by Gwynedd County Council whilst the paedophile gang swung within Gwynedd Social Services. Duckula owned some land and that land was soon covered with bungalows. Duckula really hates the owners of second homes on Anglesey, which is why she owns a second home in France. She used to flee to her residence in France to avoid the bastards who owned second homes near her place at Bryngwran. It was where she was holed up when she was not bothering to make it into work when she was employed by Bangor University.

I seem to remember hearing that Duckula’s friend and mentor at Bangor University, Prof Glyn Williams aka Glyn Patagonia, also owned a second home in France. I never had the Glyn Williams Experience, he had left Bangor University by the time that I was employed there, but I heard much about him from people for whom the memories were all too vivid. The allegations that he systematically discriminated against English students when assessing work were legion, but as one Welsh speaker explained to me, Glyn was a shitbag to many of them as well and accused them of being ‘bloody Marxists’ on one occasion when they were holding a protest, as he swept past in his Mercedes. The most worrying anecdote was the one involving the attempted suicide of a former member of staff who had been befriended and then ruthlessly used and set up by Glyn Williams and Duckula…

This is the Glyn and Duckula who kicked up merry hell when an English member of staff – who had learnt Welsh and to a very high standard as well – was appointed to a lecturing post in their dept. Such was the grief that someone from the Glyn/Duckula contingent contacted the London-based broadsheets and the English speaking Head of Dept received calls from journos accusing him of discrimination against Duckula’s (Welsh speaking) mate who had applied for the job. He was too decent to explain to the journo about the paedophile gang and the near suicide of a member of staff.

Happy days!

When Bob Parry was elected Chairman of the County Council, Councillor Richard Owain Jones, who represents the Twrcelyn ward, was elected as the Vice-Chairman of the County Council.

Richard Owain Jones works as a paramedic. We’re hearing a great deal from Wales about Dangerous Psychiatric Patients Attacking Ambulance Staff.

Bob Parry probably also knows Prof J.B. Owen, the ‘bastard’ (in the words of someone who worked with him) who presided over the dysfunctional Agriculture Dept at UCNW (Bangor University) for so many years and who seemed to have something to do with the problems that Mary Wynch encountered with Dafydd and the paedophiles when she worked as a secretary in that dept (see post ‘Not Seem Since The 80s – Carwyn’).

Bob Parry will have known the late brother of the former Tory MEP (1979-89), Beata Brookes. Beata’s brother was a farmer in Denbighshire, a leading light in the FUW and a Freemason. It was however Beata who did the real damage. Beata was a social worker for Denbighshire County Council, then a member of Clwyd Health Authority as well as a member of Clwyd County Council Social Services Committee. Lest anyone was in danger of escaping from the grip of Dafydd and the paedophiles, their mate Beata was also a member of the Family Practitioners Committee for Clwyd, a member of the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine and was involved in many charities in north Wales for ‘the disabled and mentally handicapped’. Beata will have known about Michael and Ann Craft’s campaign to sexually liberate those imprisoned by the paedophiles at Bryn-y-Neuadd (see post ‘The Old Devils’).

The paedophiles’ friends made a huge effort in 1983 to get Beata into Parliament but their plans were scuppered by Sir Anthony Meyer, the Tory MP for North West Clwyd, who undoubtedly knew what that lot were up to and who died an unsung hero.

For further details of the evil cow who was Beata Brookes and the many who assisted her, see post ‘The ‘Celtic Iron Lady’ and Yet More Recent History’.

One of the roles of High Sheriff is to act as the host for members of the judiciary.

Sir William Mars-Jones was the pupil master of Sir Ronnie Waterhouse. Mars-Jones became a High Court judge in 1969 and before that he was a well-known judge on the Chester and Wales Circuit. However prior to that, Mars-Jones was a Recorder in Birkenhead, 1959-65. Wherever there was a branch of Dafydd’s empire, there was William Mars-Jones…

Some of the many pies in which Mars-Jones had fingers were UCNW (Bangor University), the Garrick, the London Welsh Society and legal circles in London…

There are many interesting names listed as serving as High Sheriff of Denbighshire, or from 1974 after the local authority reorganisation, High Sheriff of Clwyd. Three others as well as David Mars-Jones leap out at me – David Foulk Myddelton of Chirk (1980); Noreen Louisa Edwards of Upper Colwyn Bay (1985); the Hon Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon, Whitchurch, Shropshire (1986).

The Myddelton family were mates with Sir Ronnie Waterhouse. David Foulk Myddelton is listed as being a Director of the Orthopaedic Institute Ltd (1995-2001), which was part of the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt NHS Trust. Professor Robert Owen – who organised the cover-up of the criminality of Dafydd, Tony Francis, Gwynedd Social Services, Clwyd and Gwynedd Health Authorities and the North Wales Police in 1989 (see post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’) – worked at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, as well as at Alder Hey Hospital and Liverpool Medical School (see post ‘In Memoriam – Professor Robert Owen’).

David Foulk Myddelton is described as being a ‘landowner from Wrexham’.

There is a David R. Myddelton who is the Emeritus Professor of Finance and Accounting at Cranfield University. David was educated at Eton and the Harvard Business School and is a chartered accountant. He was Professor of Finance and Accounting at Cranfield School of Management, 1972-2005, after which David Myddelton was Emeritus Professor. Since 2001 he has been Chairman of the Institute of Economic Affairs, which attracted a number of paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘The International Language Of Screaming’). David was for many years Chairman of the Cambridge Business Studies Project Trust and recently he served a three year term as President of the Economics and Business Education Association.

I really am impressed at how many of Thatcher’s friends and mentors had direct links to Dafydd and the paedophiles. I previously had just thought of Thatch as being a dim, greedy, petit bourgeois philistine who wanted to run the world on the same basis as a grocer’s shop.

Noreen Louisa Edwards was Chairman of Gwynedd Health Authority throughout the years of abuse of patients, the inexplicable disappearance of the funds and the eventual near collapse of the Health Authority in the late 1980s which resulted in questions in the House and necessitated the intervention of the bigger and better paedophiles’ friends from the Welsh Office (see post ‘A Visit To Gwynedd Archives’).

Noreen had worked for many years as an Angel.

If only more women were employed in senior roles there would be such a culture change….

Noreen lived in that location favoured by the paedophiles and their friends, Colwyn Bay. There was a lot of them out there – Prof Robert Owen, Gordon Anglesea, Huw Vaughan Thomas and Enid Rowlands, Nigel Mannering Berry and many more.

The Hon Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon will have been the man who is now the 6th Baron Kenyon. It was the 6th Baron Kenyon’s brother Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon who was known by Clwyd Social Services to be sexually abusing boys in care. On one occasion after spending the night with a boy in the Crest Hotel in Wrexham and taking ‘explicit’ photos of them together, Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon made a complaint of theft against the boy. The boy was sent to a detention centre. Thomas faced no charges. Thomas died of an HIV related illness in 1993.

Thomas’s dad the 5th Baron Kenyon was the most senior Freemason in north Wales, a member of the North Wales Police Authority, Chairman of Clwyd Health Authority, a member of Flintshire County Council, a magistrate, the President of UCNW, a Director of Lloyd’s Bank and many more things as well (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’).

Another High Sheriff of Clwyd (1990) who is worth a mention is Sir David Watkin Williams-Wynn, the 11th Baronet. Sir David is ‘a member of the surviving Welsh nobility and is the closest known living heir of the Princely House of Aberffraw, the former ruling family of Gwynedd and the Principality of Wales who were deposed in the 1282 Edwardian Conquest of Wales’.

Sir David’s ‘direct ancestors, the Williams family, were an important Parliamentary and landowning family from Denbighshire’ ‘who in the 17th Century married into the famous Wynn family of Gwydir the direct patrilineal descendants of Owain Gwynedd, Prince of Gwynedd 1137–1170, and the only surviving branch of that dynasty. On the death of Sir John Wynn in 1719, his direct heiress Jane Thelwall inherited the Wynnstay estate and the claim to the Aberffraw legacy, and her husband Watkins Williams adopted the “Wynn” family name (thought to be derived from Gwynedd) in honour of his wife’s princely heritage.’

Surely Dafydd Iwan should be recording a tribute to such a man?

Yma O Hyd!

Sir David lives in St Asaph. He was President of the Denbigh and Flint Agricultural Show in 1992. In 2008 it was widely reported that Sir David’s daughter Alexandra – a student at the  Royal Academy of Arts – had modelled nude for Lucian Freud. So Alexandra will have a few impressive stories to tell then. Sir David’s heir is his son Charles Edward Watkin Williams-Wynn (born 1970), (who might be known as Iorwerth I). In the continued discussion of potential Welsh independence his name is occasionally brought forward as a theoretical candidate in Welsh monarchy scenarios.

Sir David is a Director of the family business, Wynnstay Farming Company. Of which Lord Alex Carlile, a man closely associated with the paedophiles’ friends, is also a Director.

Lord Carlile lost a friend to whom he ‘paid tribute’ just a few days ago – Lady Shirley Hooson, the widow of Lord Emlyn Hooson. Emlyn Hooson was a paedophiles’ friend of yesteryear and Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire, 1962-79.

Hooson was a farmer’s son from Denbighshire and went to Denbigh Grammar School, then onto what is now Aberystwyth University to read law. After serving in the Royal Navy, Hooson became a barrister on the corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit. Hooson was the QC who represented Ian Brady and Myra Hindley at their trial at Chester Assizes in 1966. Ronnie Waterhouse acted as junior prosecuting counsel at the same trial. There were no hard feelings – Ronnie was a good mate of Hooson’s and used to stay at the Hoosons’ home regularly.

Hooson was Leader of the Chester and Wales Circuit, 1971-74; a Crown Court Recorder, 1972-91 and a Deputy High Court judge.

Hooson became Chairman of the Liberal Party in Wales in 1955 and was elected to the Liberal Party executive in 1965. He contested the Liberal Party leadership in 1967 but withdrew in favour of Jeremy Thorpe.

Emlyn Hooson was a member – along with Lisa Nandy’s grandfather Lord Frank Byers and David Steel – of the Liberal Party’s 1971 secret inquiry into Jeremy Thorpe (see posts ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’ and ‘He Knows Where The Bodies Are Buried’). He heard directly from Norman Scott about Jeremy’s activities, including Jeremy’s serious harassment of and threats toward Norman. Norman provided the inquiry with proof that Jeremy had made regular payments to him, which Norman maintained was hush money.

Hooson was alleged to have been appalled by Jeremy’s conduct, but Jeremy remained as Liberal leader and no-one piped up about Jeremy, not even when years later he was put on trial for conspiring to murder Norman. Norman was roundly insulted by the judge and the media and Hooson kept quiet.

Thorpe was cleared of all charges on 22 June 1979. On 26 July 1979 Emlyn Hooson took up his seat in the Lords.

Hooson introduced the Government of Wales Bill on St David’s Day 1967, taking one of the first steps to the formation of the Welsh Assembly.

Emlyn Hooson was Chair of the Governors at the London Welsh School, where his daughters Sioned and Lowri were pupils.

Hooson was a member of the ITV Advisory Council.

In 1985 Hooson became a non-executive Director of Laura Ashley and became Chairman in 1995. He was Chairman of the Trustees of the Laura Ashley Foundation, 1986-97. It’s a pity that Emlyn is dead, because he might have been able to shed light on the hoo haa that engulfed Laura Ashley after Laura was found dead and her widower Bernard took up the reins at the company.

Hooson was Chairman of Severn River Crossing PLC, the company operating the Severn Bridge and the Second Severn Crossing, 1991-2000.

Emlyn Hooson was President of the National Eisteddfod in 1966 and was a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards. He was President of the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen, 1987-93.

Can anyone see a paedophiles’ friend hidden in the picture?

Lord Hooson sat for the Liberal Democrats in the Lords ‘where he was active in improving the Mental Health Act’. The Mental Health Act that Dafydd continued to break with impunity, again and again and again.

Lord Alex Carlile was a member of Hooson’s chambers in Chester. The Hoosons and Carliles were close friends for years and Carlile was the Lib Dem MP for Hooson’s former seat of Montgomeryshire, 1983-97.

Carlile was someone who did ask a few awkward questions about the case of Mary Wynch but remained quiet for ever after once he had been told in 1994 that Mary had been ruined by Home Secretary Michael Howard the previous year (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’). Carlile bagged his peerage in 1999.

Lord Hooson’s funeral service was held at the China Street Welsh Presbytarian Chapel, Llanidloes and Lady Hooson’s is to be held there as well.

Lady Hooson was a member of Montgomeryshire District Council and Llanidloes Town Council for decades. She was Vice-Chairman of Montgomeryshire District Council when Glyn Davies, the present Tory MP for Montgomeryshire, was Chairman, 1985-89. Glyn and Shirley Hooson had already served on the Council together for many years.

Glyn Davies is rather different from most politicians, but he must know about some of the skulduggery that Hooson, Carlile et al kept quiet about because he has been around for so long. He surely must also know about the ‘care homes’ for kids as well as for people with disabilities and/or mental health problems which have sprung up all over his part of Wales in recent years and are often of very questionable quality.

Glyn Davies is the former Chairman of the Development Board for Rural Wales and was a member of the Welsh Tourist Board, as well as the hub for crooks that was the WDA.

Emlyn Hooson spoke in the Lords on law reform and drug trafficking. He should have popped up to north Wales and he’d have seen for himself how effective his contributions to the Mental Health Act, law reform and drug trafficking were. Addicts were telling each other that they really like Dafydd because ‘he’ll give you anything that you want, anything at all’. I was told repeatedly that ‘peer guides’ working for Dafydd’s charity CAIS were flogging drugs to the clients.

In 1992 I was in the Royal Oak in Rachub with a friend. I very rarely went into the Royal Oak, but my friend wanted to go in so we did. We had been in there for 20 mins or so when a young man approached us and offered to sell us ‘anything we wanted’ with regard to drugs. He approached us because he saw my friend smoking a joint. No we didn’t buy anything off him but we did spend a long time chatting to him. He was ‘under the care’ of the Arfon Community Mental Health Team and supplemented his income by drug dealing. We began discussing the thugs who staffed the Arfon Team and this young man revealed that his key worker was Slob Ingham. Had he been intimidated, harassed, arrested or assaulted by Slob Ingham like so many others had? Not at all. He thought that Slob was a drunken idiot but this young man didn’t have any trouble with him. Of course he didn’t, Slob’s patient was one of the drug dealers helping the distribution network and Slob knew it.

This wasn’t a one off. In 1999 I was living on a village on Anglesey. By that time the Hergest Unit’s ‘policy’ was to refuse to admit virtually anyone as an inpatient because patients ‘had to take responsibility’ and there was a flat refusal to touch patients with drug and alcohol problems. People with addictions were dying and going off to prison at an astounding rate. Yet there was a young woman in our village who was causing havoc. She was a heroin addict with two frail vulnerable parents whom she was assaulting and robbing on a regular basis and she occasionally went for other people as well. She was repeatedly arrested for dealing, for theft and for assault. Yet she led an utterly charmed life. No prison sentences no matter how many final warnings the magistrates gave. When the crunch came and the law was obliged to act, she was given the option that had died out years previously – a bed in the Hergest Unit! The villagers who were unacquainted with the paedophiles of north Wales all believed that they were witnessing how soft on crime the justice system was. No, they were witnessing the degree of protection afforded to one of Dafydd’s dealers.

Whilst this young woman was creating chaos and had her mum and dad living in fear, there were constant media reports of the very serious problem with heroin that existed in Llangefni and how shocking it was that a former market town had come to this. Where was this young woman flogging her wares? Llangefni. She even applied to be housed there and no doubt she was successful. Everyone knew who the purveyors of heroin were in Llangefni – they were Dafydd’s patients who were being ‘helped’ so much by him and CAIS.

Dafydd lived in Talwrn, a village about three miles away from Llangefni.

The rest of us were being denied healthcare and arrested for telling secretaries that Alun Davies was a fat idiot. And when we were threatened or attacked by dealers and addicts the police did not even record our complaints.

The GPs surgery that served the village in which I and the young woman addict lived was in a the neighbouring village, Bodorgan. There were two GPs there, a Dr Medwyn Williams and a Dr Richard Williams – I don’t know if they were related. Dr Medwyn Williams was on the local CHC and seemed very proactive. He was making public statements regarding the inadequacy and chaos that was presiding in Ysbyty Gwynedd, particularly in the Hergest Unit. Every time that I witnessed Dr Medwyn Williams in action he seemed very reasonable. He was not afraid to sympathise with mental health patients and admit to them that things were so bad at the Hergest Unit that they would not be able to access treatment no matter how serious their difficulties.

Dr Richard Williams was so different that it was difficult to imagine how Medwyn Williams worked with him. Richard Williams was uninterested in his patients, spent the minimum amount of time with them and when they were obviously so ill that by anyone’s standards they could have done with a mental health service, he took a leaf out of the Hergest Unit’s book and blamed the patients for their own problems. Richard Williams knew about sin city which was Llangefni and he knew about the young woman addict in our village and the genuine risk that she presented to everyone. He didn’t give a stuff.

The Anglesey Community Mental Health Team was located in Llangefni, as was the Drug and Alcohol Team. They only had to step out of their offices to witness the evidence of their own failure.

Shirley Hooson is not the only paedophiles’ friend to have left for heaven over the past few days. The Daily Post Online published a tribute to Tecwyn Thomas, the ‘backbone of Gwynedd politics’, who has died aged 81 years.

Mr Thomas served as a member of Gwynedd County Council and Caernarfon Town Council as well as an election agent in Parliamentary and Assembly elections and in many other roles in the Labour Party and trade union movement.

Tecwyn’s son Ian Thomas said: ‘My father served as Chair of Welsh Labour at the critical time when Rhodri Morgan was negotiating the One Wales coalition agreement and held many senior roles in Welsh Labour, campaigning hard for Welsh Labour’s message during election campaigns’.

So not only was Tecwyn one of the many who knew nuzzing about the paedophile gang that kept themselves busy in Gwynedd County Council’s children’s homes for years, but he propped up the oaf Rhodri – who also knew nuzzing, although his own wife Julie was a colleague of the paedophiles of Wales – whilst Rhodri formed a coalition Gov’t in 2007 with the oaf Ieuan Wyn Jones, who also knew nuzzing.

Alun Pugh, the former Labour MP for Clwyd West, 1999-07, stated that ‘Tecwyn Thomas was hugely respected across our nation’. I think that you’ll find Alun that most people had never heard of Tecwyn, although as a paedophiles’ friend yourself (see post ‘People With Energy’), you’ll have been very grateful to Tecwyn for helping you to keep the lid on the barrel of crap well nailed down.

Being a long serving Gwynedd County Councillor who knew nuzzing, Tecwyn will have known a few other old timers who also knew nuzzing. Dafydd Iwan of course, the former President of Plaid and leader of Gwynedd County Council who knew so leetle that he wrote a song in tribute to Dr Dafydd Alun Jones. Before Dafydd Iwan removed all references to that ditty from planet earth, I’m sure that I saw a bit of PR explaining that Dafydd Iwan had written the song in tribute to the ‘brave Welsh psychiatrist’.

Seimon Glyn is a an old favourite on Gwynedd County Council. Seimon was a Plaid Councillor but joined Llais Gwynedd some years ago after internal strife and accusations that the Plaid Councillors were stale and defending vested interests. Which was true, but I’m not sure that Seimon is quite the People’s Voice either.

Seimon came under an unfair and sustained attack by the Welsh Mirror – or as it was known at the time, the Anti-Welsh Mirror – years ago when he was campaigning with Cymuned on issues of the threat to the Welsh language and the rocketing property prices in Gwynedd as the result of the in-migration of people from England with a lot more money than local people. Seimon had identified a very real problem and I thought that he was quite right to raise it, people in rural Gwynedd who were not on high incomes were being priced out of everywhere. Furthermore, although some English incomers embrace the Welsh language and are very keen to learn Welsh along with their children, some people are very hostile to it.

However Seimon was ignoring something just as important at the very time that he was campaigning with Cymuned – organised sex trafficking in north Wales. Seimon knew all about Prestwood People Trafficking Ltd (see post ‘A Convenient Arrangement With The Private Sector’). How do I know this? Because after I had witnessed the horrors at Prestwood myself, I rang Seimon and told him what was going on. I rang Seimon because I was friendly with people in Cymuned and they suggested that I contact him because he was campaigning on matters affecting rural north Wales.

Seimon did listen to what I said and he later admitted that after I spoke to him he then investigated Prestwood himself and discovered that my allegations were correct. Seimon didn’t witness patients being abused but he did confirm that Prestwood were breaking employment law and employing unsuitable people without interviewing them, checking qualifications or references or carrying out CRB checks.

Seimon told me that he wouldn’t be following it up because he was too busy with Cymuned. I mentioned this to another person and they suggested that in view of the fact that whoever was behind Prestwood were obviously seriously nasty organised criminals, perhaps Seimon might have felt that it was safer to raise it with the appropriate authorities without telling anyone.

So I waited to see if anyone put Prestwood out of business. They didn’t. Ten yeaars after I told Seimon what was going on, Prestwood was still in business. It only came to a stop when Suzanne Hamlett, one of the people traffickers running the place, died.

Seimon Glyn is a social worker. He would have known exactly how to raise the alarm re Prestwood. Seimon was a children’s social worker with Gwynedd County Council when the paedophiles were in action. Seimon told the Waterhouse Inquiry that he never witnessed any children being abused.

Seimon was campaigning with Cymuned and ignoring what was happening at Prestwood during those months towards the end of the Waterhouse Inquiry and at the time of the publication of the Waterhouse Report.

Some five years ago Seimon reported a Plaid Councillor for putting children at risk after the Plaid Councillor had posted a photo of his baby next to an ash tray and an empty lager can on social media for a joke. The Plaid Councillor was investigated, nearly lost his job at Bangor University and I think was suspended as a Councillor. Seimon told the media that as a former social worker he knew how important it was to protect children.

The children in Gwynedd children’s homes when Seimon worked as a social worker were gang raped, beaten and starved.

One of Seimon’s fellow Llais Gwynedd Councillors is Peter Read. I first encountered Peter Read in about 2009 when he was at a public meeting confronting Mary Burrows, the then newly appointed CEO of the newly formed Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Mary had really pissed the paedophiles’ friends off by trying to clean up and she’d dared to properly investigate a few very serious complaints. The paedophiles’ friends had begun a co-ordinated attempt to bring her down. I didn’t know who Peter was at the time but I could hear him in the row behind me discussing tactics with his partner in crime and they were making insulting racist comments about Mary (Mary was American). Peter later cross-examined Mary as aggressively and as rudely as he could.

Who was Peter’s mate with whom tactics were being discussed? It was a member of the CHC – Glanville Owen. Glanville was the senior manager employed by Gwynedd Social Services with responsibility for children’s homes whilst the paedophile gang operated in those homes. Glanville appeared before the Waterhouse Inquiry and explained that he knew nuzzing.

Last year Gwynedd County Council acquired a new leader after the previous leader paedophiles’ friend Dyfed Edwards stood down. The new leader is Dyfrig Siencyn. Mr Siencyn is a Plaid Councillor who is also a Dolgellau Town Councillor. He previously Chaired the Gwynedd County Council Services Scrutiny Committee, which investigates issues in education and care services.

As Dyfrig has been investigating the care services can he explain why serious complaints about those services have been ignored for years and now why there are barely any care services available? Perhaps Dyfrig can also explain why no-one knew about the team of social workers located at Dolgellau whose specific responsibility was to find accommodation for disabled people – disabled people were simply told that there was no accommodation available by their key workers in the Community Mental Health Teams.

Being Of Dolgellau, Dyfrig will know someone else who knew nuzzing – Malcolm John, a lecturer in social work at Bangor University (see post ‘Local Accessories’). Malcolm John lives at Dolgellau. Malcolm previously worked as a social worker whilst the paedophile gang did its best. What his colleagues at Bangor didn’t know – although they did suspect that he had another job somewhere because he was so infrequently seen in the University – was that Malcolm was working as a fostering and adoption consultant…

Dafydd claimed to have spotted the world’s first case of PTSD at a clinic in Dolgellau, it was how he became an expert in PTSD and ended up giving evidence to a Commons Committee. Gwynedd County Council ought to put a commemorative plaque on the wall of whichever building housed that clinic.

No doubt Dafydd also was the first to describe those other well known psychiatric conditions which afflict so many in north Wales –  ‘chapel psychosis’ (sufferers refuse to attend regular services) and cottage ignition syndrome…

‘Shut your mouth about DA’. ‘Get out of north Wales and don’t ever come back.’

‘We didn’t know.’

You all knew. The whole bloody lot of you.

Someone else who knew nuzzing despite having witnessed it herself was a Portugese lady called Evelyn who used to work in the old psych wards at Ysbyty Gwynedd and later at the Hergest Unit. I think that when she was working at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Evelyn was employed as an occupational therapy assistant. Evelyn had started training as a nurse some years before at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and had given it up. When someone asked Evelyn why she didn’t complete her training, I heard Evelyn tell them that the Angels at Denbigh were dreadful, they were ‘patient batterers’. When I heard Evelyn saying this I thought ‘well at least someone has some standards’.

So I was certainly surprised when I witnessed a scene involving Evelyn a few weeks later. A young mother had been admitted to the mental health ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd – just before the Hergest Unit was built – and she was very, very distressed. She was threatening to sue Gwynedd Health Authority. It transpired that she had been unlawfully arrested and taken to the North Wales Hospital – which was the standard mode of entry into Denbigh – because she had experienced post-natal depression. She had been forcibly dragged from her home, separated from and refused access to her baby and had been treated appallingly at Denbigh. She had then been transferred to Ysbyty Gwynedd in a very great hurry when someone at Denbigh realised that this was no former resident of a children’s home who could be kicked about – this young woman was from a middle class Welsh family and she was beginning a career in politics. I think that she was involved with Plaid.

My God they were worried. Evelyn was dispatched to sit with the young woman and ply her with cups of coffee and soothing words. The young woman was repeating ‘that place is a bin, they are abusing the patients there’. Evelyn responded by saying ‘oh no, no, no, they’re not, you were just so upset that you misunderstood’.

‘Patient batterers’ Evelyn – it was why you resigned.

It got better. As the young woman fumed and threatened to bring down the forces of hell onto the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, a member of staff sat with her constantly and explained that there was a whole programme of activities for patients at Ysbyty Gwynedd and perhaps she would like to join the Women’s Group run by Dr Dadie Francis. Women’s Group! That was the first that any of us had heard about a Women’s Group and we’d been there for weeks, left with bugger all facilities except for the usual TV and room for the smokers. Hilarious – a whole programme of activities was arranged, I presume solely for this young woman, to try to convince her that the three days in Denbigh had all been a bad dream…

So somewhere out there is a woman who will now be in her 50s who has political connections who had a glimpse of what was happening to the rest of us before the distress flare was sent up and the lifeboat in the form of Sadie Francis and a hastily convened Women’s Group arrived.

I have no idea who the young woman was. She wouldn’t speak to the rest of us – she was probably told that we were all dangerous – and she spent her entire time accompanied by members of staff who was very, very nice to her…

A few years later I watched another patient who could have inflicted real damage receive rather better treatment than the rest of us – a lady called Elizabeth Carter who sadly died not long after her stay in the Hergest Unit. Elizabeth had cancer and had become depressed. She was spoken to kindly, was never threatened with arrest or told that she had a personality disorder. No, Elizabeth was treated as a friend and an equal by Angels and Top Docs alike. I watched Elizabeth writing every day but she obviously wasn’t writing a diary. Then I noticed that the Angels were giving her lots of facts and figures about the Hergest Unit and she was taking notes.

Elizabeth was a journalist! She worked for Dafydd’s friends on the Bangor and Anglesey Mail and one of her last articles was to be about the wonderful facilities at the Hergest Unit. Elizabeth was a patient at the Hergest Unit before it had really started to disintegrate, but the cracks were showing. A patient had been tasered – I understand that this was the first case in the UK of the police being called to an inpatient unit and tasering a patient – and the suicides had started happening on a frighteningly frequent basis.

Elizabeth Carter was not tasered. Before Elizabeth died, a very flattering article about her wonderful care at the Hergest Unit was published.

Elizabeth was a patient at the Hergest Unit just as all the fuss about the paedophile ring in north Wales being concealed at the highest levels of Gov’t kicked off…

Now for a personal message to Spike, who lived in Rachub at the same time as I did, years ago. I have been told that word has got out about this blog and that there is a healthy readership among my old neighbours and that Spike knows about it. Spike was the son of two neighbours who were really good to me as the paedophiles’ friends had me repeatedly arrested, tried to set fire to my house etc. Unfortunately when Spike got older he showed himself to be rather different to his mum and dad and he was involved in some fairly sordid deals with the paedophiles’ friends to shaft me – I don’t know how much he was paid or by whom, but it was clear that something unpleasant was happening. I don’t think that his mum and dad had any idea of what he was doing.

Now that Spike has read this blog he knows why both his mum and dad died of cancer at relatively young ages after the Top Docs ‘didn’t realise’ that they had cancer. By the time the diagnoses were made, the cancers were too far advanced for effective treatment. Spike’s parents did not receive the care that would have prolonged, if not have saved, their lives after Spike’s mum told people that she would provide a witness statement concerning the conduct of the paedophiles’ friends towards me whilst I lived in Rachub.

I hope that you can live with yourself Spike. The Top Docs and paedophiles’ friends really weren’t worth doing a deal with.

The Top Docs continue to do battle in the wake of the death of Baby Alfie. The media today has been nothing but wall to wall comment about how the Top Docs and Angels did all they could to Save Alfie, as they always do for all patients. I’ve avoided most of it, I think that I can guess what the articles will say. I am sure that there were indeed some Top Docs and Angels who did do their best for Alfie. But because of the sort of people who are systematically promoted to senior positions in the NHS, they will have been hampered and constrained by those around and above them.

Spike has now found out that pretending that the sort of events that I have described on this blog don’t happen is not a good idea.

I did read one Alfie-related article, the one written by Henry Marsh in ‘The Guardian’. Henry Marsh is a recently retired neurosurgeon who is a prolific writer. He writes well and I imagine that he was a very good Top Doc and indeed one who did the best for his patients. Henry Marsh worked at the Atkinson Morley and St George’s Hospital Medical School. He knew that one of his colleagues was imprisoned for his part in a child porn ring, that other colleagues of his concealed the rest of the paedophile ring for years and that there was also a big problem with research fraud in St George’s.

Neither has anyone explained how Alder Hey, who does its best for all patients at all times and always has, somehow employed Professor Robert Owen, who concealed a paedophile gang in north Wales.

Robert Owen has died recently as have quite a few of those who protected Dafydd and the paedophiles, so I hope for Alfie’s sake that if an afterlife does exist, there is a rather better regulatory system in place at the Pearly Gates than is provided by the GMC.

The GMC is currently advertising for a new Chair after Sir Terence Stephenson has stepped down. So if anyone wants a job which involves making a lot of loud noises about standards and excellence and accountability and protecting the public whilst ignoring the most serious criminal conduct of Dafydd and his ilk in the face of numerous complaints from people who have suffered harm or who’s nearest and dearest have died unnecessarily, the GMC wants you…

I see that the Baroness of Ely has retreated from the possibility of standing as a candidate for FM. In her desire to get down with the kids, the Baroness has established a website called Beyond the Cardiff Bay Bubble. In previous times I would enjoy logging on to that website and having a real laugh, but I’m too busy with this blog. The Baroness does of course have plenty of life experience Beyond the Bubble. She has experience of life in Atlantic College, Wales’s most expensive private school and she also has experience of life in the House of Lords.

The sociologist Richard Sennett’s books often include the line ‘I was talking to the janitor’. I really like Richard Sennett’s work and that of his wife Saskia Sassen is even better, but I always noticed that Richard Sennett did rely very heavily on the janitor for his info regarding Life at the Bottom. I went one better than Richard Sennett. I was the janitor.

Beat that Eluned.

Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK

The day before yesterday Brave Tessa Jowell made an appearance in the Lords and gave ‘an emotional speech’ about her journey with ‘brain cancer’. Theresa May turned up to give Tessa a ‘warm hug’ on camera and spout on about Tessa being ‘inspirational’ (what else could Tessa possibly be?). Media reports stressed that Theresa and Tessa had sunk their political differences for the occasion. If only they had sunk their political difference decades ago when Tessa worked as a childcare officer for Lambeth Borough Council (whilst a paedophile ring was operating in the children’s homes of that Council) and then as a psychiatric social worker at the Maudsley, where the victims of and witnesses to the Lambeth paedophile ring were abused all over again and whilst Theresa was sitting as a Councillor in Merton, keeping quiet about the paedophile ring which was being facilitated on her patch by St George’s Hospital Medical School. The paedophile gang operating in Lambeth and the one being facilitated by St George’s were both connected to Dafydd and the paedophile gang in north Wales.

These two inspirational women were met with a round of applause from the House! But then so was Greville Janner when he appeared in the Commons after having been arrested, questioned about abusing children in Leicestershire and then released without charge.

Theresa and Tessa have put their heads together and are Campaigning after they discovered that ‘brain cancer’ has a very low survival rate. I have stressed previously on this blog that one possible reason for this is the rampant research fraud that has existed for a very long time in cancer research – I witnessed it when I worked for the CRC (Cancer Research Campaign) in 1987 (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’). ‘Breakthroughs’ are claimed which are no such thing – but if the researchers maintain that a breakthrough has been made, the purse strings of funding bodies will be loosened. Drugs are ruthlessly marketed which may not be much better than others already available and data is manipulated or sometimes just fabricated. I am not suggesting that no advances are ever made – the treatment of childhood leukaemia was revolutionised and what was once usually fatal now has a much better prognosis. But cancer research is absolutely not about dedicated geniuses selflessly working for the greater good, although no-one is told that when pink ribbons and yellow daffodils are sported or women are running races for charity wearing pink bras.

My post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’ discussed the misconduct and malpractice at Hammersmith Hospital/Royal Postgraduate Medical School evident in the mid-1980s and my post ‘I Don’t Believe It!’ discussed what I believe was a major fraud perpetrated years later by Dame Julia Polak, who was the person with the worst reputation for dishonesty and ruthlessness when I was at Hammersmith. Hammersmith/RPMS was considered to be one the leading institutions for cancer research at the time and is now part of the grand and indeed grandiose Imperial College – another world leader in terms of medical research. The Dean of RPMS (Royal Postgraduate Medical School) when much skulduggery was happening was Prof Nicholas Wright. Nick Wright later became Sir Nicholas, Deputy Principal of the Imperial College School of Medicine in 1998. He was appointed as Warden of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2001. He is also Head of the Histopathology Unit at CR UK (Cancer Research (UK) Ltd).

Nick Wright began his career at Durham University and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne School of Medicine – which was where some of those who joined Dafydd and the paedophiles in north Wales had worked previously (see post ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection’). The appalling Lord John Walton who really was Mr Newcastle Medical School provided a highly effective umbrella for Dafydd and the paedophile gang for many years (see post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’).

In the late 1980s there was someone working in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne University – unfortunately I cannot remember his name – who was a good friend of Nick Wright’s and whose research into lung cancer was funded by the tobacco industry. This man assured me that the source of his funding would not allow him to be influenced at all, but considering what his friends at Hammersmith/RPMS were doing whilst funded by organisations with far fewer reasons to influence research outcomes, I didn’t quite believe everything that this man told me.

Four years after I left St George’s Hospital Medical School Malcolm Pearce, my former boss, was struck off for committing what is now described as the biggest medical research fraud in history. The Head of Dept Professor Geoffrey Chamberlain was involved as well and his name was on the paper but he did not face any disciplinary action at all – although the scandal was said to have cost Chamberlain a knighthood and he had to resign as President of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (see post ‘I Don’t Believe It!’). I have spent many years wondering why Pearce was thrown to the wolves whilst Chamberlain’s bacon was saved. I thought that the most likely explanation was that Malcolm had fallen out with his colleagues – that is virtually the only factor that leads to a Top Doctor being struck off. Furthermore Chamberlain was in a more powerful position and had a more powerful network.

A suggestion has been made to me however that Chamberlain may have had assistance from an unlikely quarter. There used to be someone working for Chamberlain in the fertility lab at St George’s called Deb Everard. She was massively problematic, abusive to other staff and patients and there were many demands from numerous people for her dismissal. Chamberlain protected her through thick and thin and Everard used to boast about this. There was an attempt to discipline her but she used the full force of the MSF union – which was ironic because Everard was a Tory Councillor on Edmonton Council and spent much of her time as a Councillor complaining about the unions protecting the jobs of the labouring classes in Edmonton. MSF saved her neck, although they hated her and she hated them. Everard then had a relationship with a union boss from another part of London and they had a baby together. I didn’t know this man, I only ever glimpsed him a couple of times, but I knew the MSF reps in St George’s and I knew that they were corrupt and concealing serious wrongdoing in the hospital. They will have known that the institution was colluding with serious organised crime, including child abuse and drug offences.

The Pearce-Chamberlain scandal blew up in 1993. At the same time as the allegations that a paedophile ring involving high profile politicians was operating in north Wales. John Major was in Gov’t and was busting a gut to conceal it all. There were a lot of Tory consultants at St George’s, but Chamberlain wasn’t one of them. I don’t know whether Chamberlain was a Labour supporter or one of Dr Death’s followers like David Hole – the corrupt MSF rep who worked for Chamberlain – but Chamberlain used to take the piss out of his Tory colleagues and comment that it wasn’t possible to be a gentleman and a Tory. Chamberlain was friendly with Wendy Savage who was definitely a Labour supporter.  Chamberlain was the sort of elite pinko Top Doctor that the Tories really didn’t like and there won’t have been any shortage of people wanting to throw him to the wolves along with Pearce. I’m wondering if Deb Everard repaid Chamberlain for his many years of protection and used her Tory connections to save him? It would be quite easy to do – I was screwed over whilst working at St George’s because I kept raising concerns about what was happening in north Wales. The wrongdoing that was being concealed was so serious and involved at least one Tory MP – Sir Peter Morrison – abusing children, so John Major wouldn’t have to be persuaded too hard to save Chamberlain in return for the lid being kept on that. Morrison was also a friend of Thatcher and his sister was Lady-in-Waiting to HM the Queen. A great many people pushed the boat out on many occasions to keep Morrison out of the courts.

The Secretary of State for Health in 1993 was Virginia Bottomley – a former psychiatric social worker and the mother of a junior doctor. The Secretary of State for Wales until May 1993 was David Hunt and after that John Redwood. They both knew about Dafydd and the paedophiles – Hunt had been directly involved in concealing the matter since he had been a junior Minister in the Welsh Office in the late 1980s.

Chamberlain was also very friendly with his highest profile celebrity private patient, a big name in light entertainment (she was the reason for the success of LWT in the 1990s) – this celeb was a well-known Conservative. That will have helped him.

In 2004 it was revealed in the media that after he was struck off Malcolm Pearce worked as a paralegal for medical negligence firms.

Malcolm was struck off in the second week of June 1995. Brown was forced out of his job at Aston University – run by Thatcher’s favourite Vice Chancellor, Sir Frederick Crawford – in July 1995. On July 13 1995 Sir Peter Morrison was found dead at his home in London. The world was told that the North Wales Hospital Denbigh closed down in June-July 1995. It didn’t – one ward was kept open, but information regarding this was not publicised. John Redwood stepped down as Secretary of State for Wales on June 26 1995 and was replaced by the paedophiles’ old friend David Hunt. Hunt remained in post for all of nine days and was then replaced by William Hague. One year later Hague organised the massive cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry. Nicola Davies QC had begun a review of documents regarding the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal the month before Malcolm was struck off in order to decide whether a Public Inquiry was necessary. Nicola decided in December that it wasn’t, but Hague was happy to organise the cover-up regardless in June 1996. Presumably Hague felt on sufficiently safe ground what with Morrison dead, Malcolm Pearce disgraced and struck off and Brown and me stuffed over along with our two friends in the media who knew what had happened to me in north Wales.

Macbeth! Keep washing those hands Hague – not that the blood will ever disappear.

The President of the GMC when Malcolm was struck off was Sir Robert Kilpatrick. Kilpatrick also served as President of the BMA and was Dean of Leicester University Medical School, 1975-89. The Leicester University in which staff were concealing the paedophile ring in Leicestershire (see post ‘Radical Leicester And Some Other Free Radicals’). In 1987 Dr James Earp, a leading forensic psychiatrist in Leicester, concealed the wrongdoing of Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and Gwynedd Social Services (see post ‘An Expert From England’).

Marion Janner is going to be needing that support dog of hers soon and no doubt Rabbi Laura will be given yet more air time on the Today programme to protest her father’s innocence.

All together in Parliament now ‘He was a LOVELY man!’ Don’t forget the round of applause.

Following the Pearce-Chamberlain scandal there was a great deal of huffing and puffing about scientific fraud and much condemnation of Pearce. No-one admitted just how widespread research fraud in medicine is. It was repeatedly stressed that the dreadful Malcolm had ruined the career and reputation of Chamberlain and how shocked everyone was. Er – well when I worked for Malcolm, the malpractice in that Dept was extensive and known to absolutely everyone. Furthermore, all those deeply shocked people as well as Chamberlain MUST have known that Malcolm had not carried out the pioneering operation that he claimed to have performed. Where was the mother and indeed the baby whom Malcolm had claimed to have saved? Where were the other staff who assisted? Which operating theatre was host to the medical miracle? There were a lot more people than Malcolm Pearce in on that fraud.

Chamberlain retained his job at St George’s and in 2000 when he retired he took up a lecturing job at Swansea University, the university dominated by Rhodri Morgan’s friends and relatives (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’). Chamberlain took that job just as the Waterhouse Report was published and when Rhodri became First Minister! Paul Murphy was Secretary of State for Wales at the time. Blair was PM. Chamberlain considered himself to be Welsh – although he was the sort of proud patriot who spent most of his life living in London making jokes about Wales containing nothing but sheep – and his father had been Secretary to the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. The Dean of St George’s at the time of the research fraud was Professor William Asscher, who had spent the first part of his career at the Welsh National School of Medicine at Cardiff. Asscher had been the man who developed the renal service in Wales and was responsible for the arrival of the kidney unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd in the 1980s.

Think things can’t get much worse for you paedophiles’ friends? It can! I have more blog posts under development and there are more names to be revealed…

Following the performance in the Lords yesterday, Theresa announced a ‘£45 million boost’ for brain cancer research – the Gov’t will be working with CR UK! So where’s the dosh going to go then Theresa – a bit to Nick Wright and a bit to The Walton Euthanasia Centre for Those Who Have Spilt The Paedophiles’ Pints (see post ‘These Sharks Are Cap As Well’)? Remember to leave a few million for the many other charlatans who have fabricated their data and screwed over whistleblowers or little things will be hitting each other.

Tessa’s speech included a plea for patients with brain cancer to be allowed to take part in ‘adaptive trials’, whereby they try one treatment and if it doesn’t work within a short time they then change to another treatment. Tessa – cancer treatment doesn’t work like that, it’s not like taking two paracetamol for a headache. It takes quite a long time to ascertain whether a treatment for cancer is successful, which is why everything with regard to cancer outcomes are measured in years. Even if someone has been successfully treated for cancer, they are not considered to be on safe ground until a number of years – how many precisely depends upon the cancer – have passed without a tumour reappearing.

This is why it is so easy for Top Doctors to win their battles with politicians…

The present Chief Exec of CR UK is Sir Harpul Kumar. Kumar attended St John’s College, Cambridge, where he gained a Masters in Engineering and an MA. He subsequently gained an MBA at Harvard Business School where he won the Wolfe Prize. After graduation, Kumar was employed by McKinsey and Co as a healthcare consultant. In 1992 he was appointed Chief Executive of the Papworth Trust. In 1997 Kumar founded Nexan Group, a venture capital-backed medical devices company. He joined Cancer Research Technology Limited as Chief Executive in 2002, became Chief Operating Officer of CR UK in 2004 and CEO in 2007.

Kumar is a trustee of the Francis Crick Institute, the Institute for Cancer Research and Chairman of the Board of the National Cancer Research Institute. He is also chairman of the Cancer Outcomes Strategy Advisory Group in England and Co-chair of the National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative.

I know that I might be underestimating Kumar here, but I can see absolutely nothing in his biography which suggests that he would have the knowledge needed to spot a major research fraud in the field of cancer research yet alone make difficult decisions regarding which research is most worthy of funding. He is an engineering graduate who worked in the financial services. Which is probably how Tessa’s scientifically illiterate suggestion in the Lords was immediately followed by an offer of £45 million quid.

Decisions regarding cancer research funding are being made on the basis of hugs and of inspirational women which is not solid ground.

When I worked at the dreadful Cancer Research Campaign laboratories at Nottingham University which were led by the conman Professor Robert Baldwin – whom we all knew was committing some sort of big research fraud with an American drug company (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’ for details) – every member of staff in the place who was making an escape plan used to remark that they NEVER donated to the CRC because of what Baldwin was doing. This was not just one small lab in one university. Baldwin’s labs employed four ‘senior academics’ – who seemed to be doing nothing at all – and at least thirty researchers. Baldwin did not even have to bid for cash from the CRC – his labs were a permanent fixture and received core funding and a great deal of it. PhD students walked out in despair because it was clear that they were never going to get their PhDs and medical students who arrived to carry out projects thought that the ‘research’ was farcical. Baldwin’s ‘senior academics’ ordered everyone to perform routine repetitive tasks – none of it was original research and as far as we could see it was simply for the purposes of giving the pretence of activity in the labs, whilst Baldwin and his ‘partners’ in the US drug company fabricated results and pretended that it was based on the data of ground breaking research carried out in the Nottingham labs.

There was a great deal of hilarity in the CRC labs when someone found out that Baldwin had managed to have a fling with a high profile female Professor in the US, who was involved in the fraud as well.

In 1987 animal rights activists were causing a great deal of grief in medical research. The Animal Liberation Front were planting bombs and setting fire to places and not long after this time some animal rights activists began receiving very long prison sentences. The ALF might be surprised to hear this, but a lot of medical researchers who did think that animal work could be justified under some circumstances were also very uncomfortable with the gratuitous animal experimentation that was going on. The places with the  worst reputations were Porton Down – where no-one actually knew what was going on, except that researchers were paid a great deal of money to tempt them to work there – the Royal College of Surgeons who did seriously gruesome things to pigs, the Institute of Psychiatry who did seriously gruesome things to primates and the Huntingdon Institute, whose staff were still squirting things in the eyes of rabbits and dogs and carefully examining the injuries that resulted. The individual with an unrivalled reputation for unnecessary cruelty was Colin Blakemore, who in 2003 was appointed Chief Exec of the MRC.

I would be most interested to know how Nottingham University and the CRC kept Baldwin out of the firing line of the ALF, because what was going on in those labs with animals could never have been justified. There was a woman who had worked as a lab assistant in a school who was not a graduate and who had landed a very junior job at Baldwin’s lab many years previously and had stayed. She had no research knowledge and simply did what one of the ‘senior academics’ told her. He told her to spend her time transplanting tumours into mice. This was actually a very old technique and was certainly not producing any worthwhile knowledge. The school lab assistant obediently sat in the lab day after day with a constant supply of mice and carefully transplanted tumours under the skins of all of them. Then a week or so later she would kill them. Nothing would be done with the dead mice, they’d just be disposed off. There was no data being produced from this ‘research’ or even any pretence at that. I and two medical students with whom I was friendly watched this open mouthed for the whole time that I worked at Baldwin’s labs – I lasted three months before I decided to get the hell out of there.

Baldwin’s labs were not officially part of Nottingham University, it was stressed that they were the ‘Cancer Research Campaign Laboratories’, but they were sited on the Nottingham campus and Nottingham University undoubtedly knew what was going on – or not going on – in those labs. Some of Baldwin’s staff were married to Top Doctors in the Queen’s Medical Centre, others were married to pharmacologists at Boots and others to academics and researchers in Nottingham University. There were also constant complaints to the University from the medical students on placement.

Whilst I witnessed the outrage at Nottingham, the Chancellor was Sir Gordon Hobday. Hobday was Director of the Boots research team that developed ibuprofen who became Chairman of Boots in 1973 . He was Chairman of Central Independent Television, 1981-85 and whilst in post prevented the screening of a series made by Ken Loach which was critical of the trade union movement’s inadequate challenge to Thatcherism. Hobday was Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, 1983–1991.

The Vice-Chancellor at the time was Basil Weedon, an organic chemist who was a consultant to Hoffman-La Roche, Basel, Switzerland, 1955-1978.

Tessa and Theresa might not know their arses from their elbows but Gordon and Basil did and they will have known that Baldwin was not doing what he claimed to be doing. I can only presume that there was collusion with Baldwin’s wrongdoing on the part of both the CRC and Nottingham University.

Baldwin died in 2012 but he’s left one hell of a legacy. Nottingham Trent University boasts a thing called the John van Geest Cancer Centre Trust and according to the website, this glorious Centre has grown from the work of one Professor Robert Baldwin. Baldwin receives the highest praise from one of his proteges, Professor Robert Rees, who is quoted on the website as saying:

‘I spent five happy years working under Professor Robert Baldwin alongside some very talented scientists. He was he first person ever to publish in this area. I came to Nottingham in the 1970s after I had graduated with my doctorate. I became inspired by the whole subject, the working environment and the man himself. There were times I remember being at conferences and virtually all the great minds in science of the time would know him. He could be standing in the middle of a very large conference and the really eminent scientists both in and outside of this area would recognise him. You then realise how well-known this person is and how much he has contributed to world science.’

Here’s the history of the John van Geest Cancer Centre Trust, as supplied by the website:

In 1973 Baldwin was joined at his CRC lab in Nottingham by Robert Rees. In 1977 Robert Rees took up a job as a lecturer at Sheffield Medical School. In 1996 Robert Rees returned to Nottingham to become Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Nottingham Trent University. In 2008 the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre was established after initial funding of £8 million from the John and Lucille Geest Foundation. This was matched by £2.3 from the Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF). It opened with 18 staff members. In 2011 the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre officially opened, housing 35 staff and students. In 2012 – the year of Baldwin’s death – the John and Lucille van Geest Foundation donated a further £8 million to the centre.

Once the crooked old git was dead, the sky was the limit…

In 2013 the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre Trust was established at Nottingham Trent University. This was set up to assure the financial future of the centre and the Trustees included members of NTU’s senior management team. Sue Dewey OBE was appointed as Head of Fundraising and donations from the general public towards the work began to be accepted.

John van Geest was a Dutch businessman who established a business exporting daffodils from the Netherlands to Britain and then expanded into bananas and shipping, which made him a very rich man and obviously one who was duped by Robert Baldwin and Bob Rees.

So Bob Rees remembered Baldwin wowing everyone at conferences and being ‘well-known’ by the world’s finest brains. That’s interesting Bob, because not only did I discover in 1987 that Baldwin was loathed by his own staff and that the shenanigans in his labs were causing much embarrassment and fears that the CRC would be brought into disrepute, but after I left Nottingham I realised that people in other areas of the UK working in cancer research knew that Baldwin was not producing the data that he claimed to be.

In March 1988 I joined another CRC funded research team in the Dept of Biochemistry at the University of Surrey, led by Professor Vincent Marks. Vincent’s brother Dr John Marks was the President of the BMA – it was John Marks with whom Ken Clarke did battle when Clarke was Health Secretary and was concealing the child molesting activities of Sir Peter Morrison and the associated criminality of the Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and the paedophiles (see post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’). Ken Clarke and John Marks really hated each other, but because they were both concealing the same serious organised crime, their war ended in stalemate. John Marks was President of the BMA whilst Tony Francis (Dr X) CC’d the BMA into the letters of his in which he detailed his plans to frame me for serious offences. John Marks was a barrister as well as a Top Doctor.

Vincent Marks knew what had happened to me at the hands of Dafydd and the paedophiles, because I had to take time off to attend the hearing into my complaint – the hearing Chaired by Professor Robert Bluglass, which resulted in Bluglass and Dr Colin Berry concealing Dafydd et al’s wrongdoing (see post ‘Enter Professor Bluglass CBE’). I was never intimidated by Vincent in the same way that I was at St George’s by the dreadful Cathy Wilson et al, but Vincent did offer me kindly advice regarding a referral to a psychiatrist, describing a Dr Michael Browne as being ‘very good’. Michael Browne turned out to be appalling and was the subject of much dissatisfaction in Surrey. A few years after I decided that I certainly wasn’t going to visit him again, Browne was at the centre of a medical scandal involving the death of a young man in prison from serious negligence. See post ‘The BMA At The Root Of Another Mystery?’.

Not only did Vincent Marks know about Dafydd and the paedophiles, but Vincent’s cancer research team – and presumably Vincent himself because the senior members of the team were good mates with him – knew about Baldwin. They told me that they had been at conferences where Baldwin had presented data that he claimed had been produced by his team at Nottingham that was obviously dodgy and when they questioned him about it, he was unable to answer any questions or explain how the data had been produced. I was told that ‘everyone’ knew that Baldwin was up to something questionable and that there was a great deal of anger in the cancer research world because of the millions going into Baldwin’s labs from the CRC.

The people who discussed Baldwin’s fraud with me were Dr Wynne Aherne and Evelyn Piall. I will stress that I never witnessed Wynne, Evelyn or any other member of Vincent Marks’s team at Guildford fabricate or dishonestly manipulate any data at all. But they knew that something was terribly wrong at Baldwin’s empire and as is traditional, no-one blew the whistle. Wynne continued in cancer research for many years – although she may have retired by now – and she continued to receive funding from the CRC and the body into which it evolved, CR UK. Wynne ended up as a Team leader at the Institute of Cancer Research in Surrey and even bagged a prize from CR UK.

Evelyn was unusual for a lab scientist in that she was a sort of society figure who had undertaken a PhD in middle age but did not intend to continue in cancer research, because she was relocating to Paris with her husband Tony, who was the leading civil engineer on Eurodisney which was at the time nearly completed. If Evelyn wanted to have blown the whistle on Baldwin, she certainly could have.

Another member of the team at Guildford was Anthea Hardcastle – who was from Cricieth in north Wales. Anthea’s closest friends were the Principal Biochemist at Ysbyty Gwynedd and his wife. Anthea was never anything but friendly and pleasant to me, but I’m pretty sure that her friends from Ysbyty Gwynedd will have filled her in on matters regarding Dafydd and the paedophiles. Anthea’s friends will definitely have known all about the chaos and criminality in Gwynedd Health Authority. It seems that Anthea has died – there is a justgiving fundraising webpage in her memory. Ironically the funds raised are going to the Institute for Cancer Research.

Another colleague of mine at Guildford was Miguel Godfrey, who was doing his PhD in the same lab as me. I see from my internet search that Miguel is now a leading light in the Freemasons in Guildford, precisely the Mark Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Surrey. It was Miguel who told me that Jimmy Savile was known to the police in Leeds as a paedophile – Miguel told me that many years before Esther et al swore blind that ‘we didn’t know’.

Life is full of surprises though. An even bigger surprise than Miguel’s status as Mr Big in Freemasonry in Guildford is that I have found my name on a journal article which I knew nothing about and even more mysteriously I am listed along with a co-author of whom I had never heard until I found this article a few days ago!

I remember doing the work that had been published in this article which appeared in Biochemical Society Transations, Dec 1, 1989 and I know two of the authors – Wynne and Evelyn. Wynne, Evelyn and I are all listed as being affiliated to the University of Surrey. The article was published some months after I left Surrey, but that’s not unusual, articles are in the pipeline for many months before they are published. I’m a little puzzled though as to why I was never told whilst I was at Surrey that this article had been submitted – because it will have been submitted whilst I was still working at Surrey. I was told about another article that was submitted – for the American Journal of Cancer Research – which wasn’t published until after I left Surrey, but I never heard anything about this one. Furthermore, the mystery woman whose name is on the article did not contribute anything at all to the work that has been published with her name as the fourth author. She did not work at Guildford and her name was never mentioned as a collaborator on the work that we did at Guildford. So who is this person whose name was put on a paper along with mine, although she played no part at all in the work?

Step forward Professor Nicola Curtin, Professor of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics, Northern Institute for Cancer Research, Medical School, University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Professor Curtin, as you are publishing my work under your name without my knowledge, would you like to let us all know whether this was just a one-off or is this your usual practice?

Nicola’s webpage tells us that she has been Professor of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics and has worked in Newcastle since 1982. Nicloa states that she has ‘more than 30 years’ experience in the development and biological evaluation of novel drugs to treat cancer and the development of biomarkers to predict and assess effects’. The work that I did which was published under Nicola’s name concerned developing a radioimmunoassay – so my work has contributed to Nicola’s ‘more than 30 years experience’ in this field. How much experience does Nicola REALLY have??

Nicola states that her ‘major interest is in targeting the DNA damage response’. Ah yes – we’re hearing a lot about that in the media at the moment, the ‘smart drugs’ which will target your very own DNA should you develop cancer. Tell me Nicola, have I done that work as well? Or was that somebody else’s work that you shamelessly plagiarised?

Nicola’s the Team leader for DNA damage response! Can I be a Team leader too Nicola?

The only person whom I was told was involved in the work that I did at Surrey who was not based in our lab at Guildford was Adrian Harris at Oxford. I never met Adrian, but everyone spoke very highly of him, he was popular and well-respected and it was made clear from the beginning of the project that the data would be shared with Adrian. There was one reason in particular why the team at Guildford were keen to continue to work with Adrian – it was because ‘everyone knew’ that Adrian was going to be a big name one day.

Adrian is Professor Adrian Harris, who leads the Hypoxia and Angiogenesis Group at the Department of Oncology, Oxford University. Adrian’s webpage tells us that ‘the focus of the group is on tumour angiogenesis and the role of notch signalling, and hypoxia biology and its regulation’.

That will certainly impress Tessa and Theresa – although they won’t understand a word of it.

Another £45 million is needed immediately! It’s the Race For Life! The victims of the paedophile gang in north Wales were indeed running for their lives, but they were followed wherever they went…

Adrian has recently retired and his retirement was marked by the NHS with the Regional Breast Cancer Academic Day.

Adrian had such a cult following at Surrey that one of the research rabbits was named after him. No, Adrian the rabbit wasn’t the subject of pointless experiments and then slaughtered like the mice in Baldwin’s CRC laboratories were. Adrian was used for raising anti-bodies which meant that every few weeks he was vaccinated and then a small sample of his blood was taken. Adrian was a well loved rabbit, big and floppy and he received many visitors who would take him out of his hutch and cuddle him.

I mentioned previously that Baldwin’s chamber of horrors at Nottingham was never targeted by animal rights activists – however the animals at Surrey were. A load of sheep were liberated to give them a taste of freedom and ended up on the main road at Guildford and were nearly hit by the Porches travelling at high speed. On another occasion the animal house was broken into and the liberators stole a number of animals, one of which was a little yappy incontinent dog. This dog was actually the pet of one of the technicians who kept it in the shed overnight because of its incontinent ways, but the liberators thought that it was a research animal. What was so incredible was that the dog was returned in another night time raid a few days later – it was concluded that the kidnappers had discovered the incontinence problem.

I only lived in Surrey for a year, but when I was there something quite memorable happened. I lived near Haslemere and when I first arrived in Surrey I purchased a mountain bike with the intention of cycling to the railway station and then catching the train into Guildford. I had only had my bike three days or so when I got off the train one day to find that it had disappeared – in broad daylight, at a well-used railway station. My bike had been locked to the railings with a top of the range lock because the bike had cost me a lot of money. The lock was still attached to the railings – my bike had been removed by a very nifty piece of handiwork which had involved just one railing being sliced through most expertly. I was mortified and called the police, who took a look and said that this was a very skilled job and that they thought that my bike must have been targeted by a gang of professional thieves. I didn’t have the money to spend on another bike, but luckily some friendly people in the village gave me lifts to the station. After a few weeks of regularly commuting at set times, I then had an even bigger adventure.

One morning I was walking from Guildford Railway Station to the University via my usual route, which took me along a footpath through a little copse. I was in the middle of the copse when I saw a young man sitting on an upside down supermarket trolley, as though he was waiting for someone or something. It was about 8-30 am so a bit odd. He watched me as I came towards him and carried on watching me as I walked past. I thought that perhaps he was the sort of bloke who was going to try and get into conversation and ask me out or something, but he didn’t. However he did begin following me. He was still very obviously following me when I came out of the copse, so I deliberately took a route across an open field up the hill in full view of some houses. The man turned around and went back into the copse. About an hour later the police arrived at the University, saying that a woman had been raped at about 8-40 in the copse that morning and asked if any of us had any info.

I met with the police and it transpired that the man had followed me and had raped the woman who had come along the path immediately after me, in the copse, once he had given up pursuing me.

I was a witness and later picked the rapist out in an identity parade. The police believed that he had raped and battered another two women in Guildford within the two weeks that he had been staying in the town. The rapist stated his intention to plead not guilty and I subsequently received a letter telling me to turn up to the Old Bailey to give evidence, threatening to arrest me if I didn’t. At the last minute the rapist changed his plea to guilty so in the event I didn’t have to give evidence.

When I lived in the south east of England I gained the impression that it was a rather dangerous place for young women, because the Guildford rapist was not the first lucky escape that I had. When I went to London in Oct 1986 to begin my MSc at RPMS, I initially temporarily stayed at my friends’ flat in Bethnal Green. Then I found a shared house in Harringay, but I used to go over to see my mates at Bethnal Green every weekend. It was in the Christmas holiday of 1986-87 that I was unlawfully arrested and imprisoned in the North Wales Hospital by Dafydd. I have explained in previous posts how Dafydd threatened me before I was released, told me that if I ever came back to north Wales again he’d have me arrested and that he had rung Haringey Social Services to let them know that I was living in their area no less. I was then driven to a railway station by two Angels, literally put on a train to London, told to ‘shut your mouth about DA’ and warned never to go to north Wales again.

I made representation about Dafydd and the paedophiles as soon as I returned to London. My weekly visits to my friends in Bethnal Green continued. But on every occasion that I left the station, I would be followed by a particularly aggressive man who would hurl abuse at me and tell me that he was going to rape me. After the fourth time that I had this experience, I decided that this man probably was quite dangerous, so I started getting off at a different station and walking a different route to my friends place. The aggressive misogynist bastard was particularly memorable because he was always dressed in a cowboy hat and cowboy boots, but the rest of his regalia was black leather – he was mixed race. Of course I told Brown all about it and Brown discovered that a man of this description from the East End had recently been released from prison after serving a hefty sentence for multiple rapes.

I detailed in a previous post how when I put my house up for sale in Bethesda in the early 1990s, I received a cash offer within days from a man in Birmingham who wanted to relocate to north Wales. I was delighted. Unfortunately, when he moved in – I was still living in the same village, so heard all about it – he began sexually harassing my former neighbour as well as other women in the village. It transpired that he was a sex offender from the West Midlands whose family had packed him off to north Wales where his history wasn’t known. He was known to the mental health services and the police in the West Midlands.

I wondered why serious sex offenders were magnetically attracted to me for a long while, until Brown and me discovered the full extent of the wrongdoing of the serious criminal with UK-wide and European connections that is Dafydd. Brown observed that Dafydd had a great deal to do with sex offenders and general nasties and that his business network spread to every place in which I had lived when I wasn’t living in north Wales. Last year when I finally acquired all the NHS documentation concerning me, there were letters in the file between Alun Davies and other senior figures in the north Wales mental health services which overtly discussed which addresses I was living at and detailed the various – illegal – ways that Davies was using to access my home addresses.  Davies even had a contact at St George’s who was intercepting and reading mail that was arriving at the hospital for me in order to find out my home address.

For years it was known that a very serious workplace bullying problem existed in the mental health services in north Wales – the worst offenders were the Arfon Community Mental Health Team. The sickness rate in that team was the highest in Wales. This was partly because Slob Ingham and Tom Harney were lazy drunks who couldn’t be bothered to make it into work even to experience the joy of abusing their patients, but it was also because unsuspecting people who joined the Arfon Team could not face going into work after a few weeks of starting their new jobs. Just before I left north Wales, I was told that one woman had dared to put in a complaint of workplace bullying against Keith Fearns. She went off sick for a long time and when the matter had supposedly been resolved, she returned. She left north Wales two days later, after phoning a friend and telling them that on returning to work, she had been sexually assaulted by a male member of the Arfon Team – whom she refused to name – who told her that this is what happens to grasses.

I am only sad that the grass didn’t grass the whole lot of them up for every serious crime with which they have undoubtedly been involved. Fearns – this sort of gangland stuff is the reason why I decided to write this blog.

Now Dafydd, do you happen to know who the lunatic in fancy dress in Bethnal Green was or indeed the man who turned up in Guildford shortly after I did and who violently raped three women? Do you not think that you owe them an apology, putting them in danger as a result of trying to show me what happens to grasses?

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is back in the news again at the moment. An inspection of the Ablett Unit carried out by HIW has resulted in a damning report. HIW has stated – among other things – that patients are being put at risk, that facilities are totally inadequate and that there were only male staff on a ward with women patients. The response of the Betsi has been to say that £750 k has been spent on the Unit and another £400 k is going to be spent.

This is a Health Board that just doesn’t get that the problem is not and never has been money. The problem is that the north Wales NHS is full of people who once facilitated a sex trafficking ring – Dr Peter Higson was one of those who did so and he’s now the Chairman of the Betsi. No-one is ever dismissed for anything except for blowing the whistle on the abuse of patients. Tawel Fan Ward was closed down after a nurse blew the whistle on the biggest mental health scandal that there has ever been in the UK. The staff who abused the patients were all either suspended on full pay or given other jobs with the Betsi. A number of them were relocated to Bryn Hesketh where they were then caught abusing patients again – and were suspended on full pay… Some patients died as a result of their ill treatment in Tawel Fan and there are a number of investigations continuing – investigations with which the staff refused to co-operate. What the staff of Tawel Fan did do after the ward was closed down was appear in the Daily Post and insult the patients whom they had abused as well as their relatives.

One person has been sacked and struck off over Tawel Fan – Nicola Kingston, the nurse who blew the whistle on the abuse. Nicola faced a kangaroo court held by the NMC where she was deemed a disgrace and later incurred screaming newspaper headlines for ‘having sex with a patient’. No-one mentioned that the patient whom Nicola had sex with was her husband. Furthermore, he was not her patient and never had been – before they married, he was a mental health patient from England and Nicola did not meet him through her work. Before Nicola was struck off she received death threats.

The Betsi is already in special measures and at a debate in the Senedd a few weeks ago, Conservative AMs Darren Millar and Mark Isherwood both spoke about the stream of deaths and scandals which continue to emanate from the Betsi and begged the Health Minister Vaughan Gething to act. Vaughan told them to stop ‘talking down the NHS’.

Please Vaughan, be my guest – develop serious mental health problems and go for ‘help’ from those mad intimidating criminals yourself. Perhaps then you will understand that money is not the issue, serious criminality is.

Yet another casualty of the Betsi has just been imprisoned. Hannah Turtle, a young mother with mental health problems from north Wales, killed her baby and is now in prison. The Daily Post Online went to town with headlines of ‘inside the mind of evil Hannah’ and it was explained that Hannah ‘has the same diagnosis as Beverly Allitt’. Well I’m glad that Beverly’s been mentioned, because there are plenty of indications that she was framed for the murders of a number of children who died on the ward where she worked as a nurse.

The hospital where Beverly was working had been deemed unsafe before Beverly ever went near it because patients had died for unexplained reasons. The hospital was in Grantham, Thatcher’s home town and the serious problems there were kept under wraps for political reasons. Beverly was the newest, most junior person working on the ward and when unexpected deaths happened, she copped it. Beverly has now been in Rampton for many years.

It was alleged that Beverly suffered from Munchausens by Proxy and had killed a number of children by injecting them with insulin. Munchausen’s by Proxy is a psychiatric illness which was invented by Sir Roy Meadow, who isn’t even a psychiatrist. After inventing this illness, a number of women were wrongly imprisoned for killing their children who had died of SIDS. Meadow didn’t just make up an illness, he also made up a load of statistics in his capacity as an ‘expert witness’. No statisticians were called as witnesses so no-one pointed out the serious errors that Meadow had made. A number of women spent years in prison before Meadow’s fantasies were scrutinised and the women were released.

The most well-known casualty of Roy Meadow was Sally Clark, a solicitor who had lost two babies, became seriously depressed as a result and took to drink. She was portrayed in Court as a wealthy drunken slapper who was too busy downing gin with her middle class friends to want to care for her children so she bumped them off. There was not a scrap of evidence for any of the allegations made in Court about Sally. Furthermore, it was later revealed that a pathologist had actually discovered that one of Sally’s babies had died from pneumonia, but he had deliberately concealed this. He and Meadow stood up in Court, lied their arses off and an innocent bereaved mother went to prison.

Whilst in prison Sally Clark was physically attacked for being a child killer. By the time that she was released she was destroyed and she died some months later. The Top Docs had not caused Sally’s family enough suffering however. When Sally’s husband gave an interview after she was released, Professor David Southall – another paediatrician who is an expert in Munchausen’s by Proxy – rang the police and told them that he knew that Sally’s husband was the person who had killed the babies. Presumably because his eyes were a bit too close together.

Roy Meadow was eventually struck off by the GMC after the most damning evidence was presented against him. Meadow appealed to the High Court and was reinstated. He was represented by the country’s leading lawyer in medical negligence – Nicola Davies QC! Nicola is now Dame Nicola and in 2014 was appointed the Presiding judge of Wales (see post ‘Here’s What Happened To Nicola, Niclas, Merfyn, Joan and Kathryn’).

Southall also appeared in front of the GMC and fought a battle as epic as the one fought by Meadow, maxing out the very extensive appeals system. Southall was finally allowed to continue to practice and now styles himself as someone who is involved in ‘international humanitarian work’.

Another expert witness testified to Beverly Allitt’s guilt as well, an expert in diabetes who maintained beyond all reasonable doubt that Beverly had done it. That man was Professor Vincent Marks!

Can someone please urgently reinvestigate  the case of Beverly Allitt and rescue Hannah Turtle as well?

BBC News Wales reported a great success at the Royal Gwent Hospital – a group of patients had all been discharged from hospital and had arrived ‘safe and sound’ at home, which meant that their beds were freed up. It is poignant that in these times of elderly frail people being discharged from hospital at 3 am and dumped on their doorsteps whilst wearing their nightclothes, that it is considered newsworthy when they arrive home in one piece without their lives having been risked. The thing that the Angels were really pleased about though was that beds had been freed up. Which reminded me of a case that Brown brought to my attention in 2004 in Staffordshire, which concerned a nurse who had attempted to murder four elderly patients to free up the beds.

When such cases are actually acknowledged as opposed to being covered-up, people are usually gobsmacked and say ‘how did it ever come to this?’. Quite easily. It’s what happens in a system which conducted a 35 year long vendetta against a young woman and every one of her close friends after she complained about a gang of paedophiles led by a mad old doctor in the wilds of north Wales. In 30 years I did not meet one Top Doctor who did not collude with Dafydd and the paedophiles when they found out what was going on.

The Today programme got excited yesterday regarding a report that maintained that thousands of patients are dying every year as a result of prescribing errors. Janet Davies from the RCN explained that it was all a result of understaffing and what is needed is more money, lots of it. Janet stressed that the NHS must not have a blame culture, but a learning culture. It doesn’t have a blame culture Janet – unless you’re a whistleblower or of course a patient who has dared complain. The NHS does have a learning culture though – as an institution it has very effectively learnt how to never hold itself to account no matter how great the disaster and how to blame all problems on the putative lack of funding or unreasonable patients. Swathes of the NHS are understaffed – such as the Betsi – because the workplace is so toxic that no-one can bear to work there. Other hospitals are under-staffed because the Angels have all resigned and then registered with an agency so that they can be re-employed in their former jobs on their former wards at a far higher pay rate. Janet also quoted a practice in the US which had really impressed her –  using different coloured syringes for different types and quantities of medication. Janet that is neither rocket science nor news – this was being discussed in the UK at least 10 years ago and in the case of a lot of medications, there are now distinctively coloured vials for different quantities/drugs. Still serious errors are made.

Jeremy Hunt was interviewed on the Today programme about the en masse prescribing errors as well. Once he had done the obligatory – praised ‘the fantastically hard working staff’ – Jeremy fished around for all sorts of reasons to explain the prescribing errors. He was very keen on the idea of new IT systems. Jeremy – one thing that the NHS does not have a good record on is IT systems. Wasn’t there one a few years ago which cost many millions of pounds and then had to be scrapped completely? Then before that, there was the dog’s breakfast which was the website for the Modernising Medical Careers scheme. Neither of those cock-ups were the fault of the Top Doctors. They were the fault of arrogant, stupid Gov’ts which had given contracts for badly thought-out ideas to fly-by-night companies run by Minsters’ friends.

My posts ‘Oh,No! It’s The Pathetic Sharks’ and ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’ mentioned figures on the left and union leaders who ignored or concealed the organised abuse of children and psychiatric patients whilst boasting of their radicalism and commitment to the oppressed. A number of these people were actually working for the security services. Richard Littlejohn of all people wrote about this in the Mail Online today. He discussed the trade unionist Brian Nicholson who, Nicholson later admitted, had spent years passing information to MI5 – MI5 infiltrated all the unions and political parties many years ago. Nicholson was a good mate of Neil Kinnock.

MI5 infiltrated all of the UK’s national institutions years ago and from the 1960s onwards were crawling all over north Wales because of Welsh nationalist activism. The security services had UCNW (Bangor University) under surveillance, because there was Irish Republican activity in the Students’ Union. MI5 and MI6 knew all about Dafydd and the paedophiles and the sex trafficking ring.

Many of those who concealed the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal had connections with the security services and I have named a number of such people on this blog. I’m sure that the security services were not established with the remit of assisting the likes of Dafydd and the paedophiles, but the problem was all those people in high places who were molesting children – their needs were prioritised over the kids and witnesses who were turning up dead.

What has struck me is how many writers and journalists on the left were facilitating the abuse of vulnerable people or who were even abusing vulnerable people themselves, such as Michael Foot and his circle and of course Bertrand Russell and his associates. Just months after I first encountered Dr DGE Wood in the Student Health Centre at UCNW who was busy facilitating the sex abuse ring, Brown and I had a very unpleasant experience with someone whom we contacted through New Statesman. Brown had just graduated and had moved into the house that I shared with my friends on Anglesey. He was looking for house renovation work whilst he published a few things and wrote proposals for PhD funding and Wood knew this. Brown and me used to regularly read New Statesman in those days and Brown saw an advert from someone in Llangollen who wanted help renovating his house and in return offered board and lodging and a bit of money. It seemed ideal, so Brown used to go there during the week and come back to Anglesey at weekends. Brown spent several weeks down there and got to know the man concerned, Leslie Gore, quite well. Or so he thought. This was in 1983. Gore was 61, had owned the house in Llangollen for years and used it as a second home. Back in the 1970s and 80s there were a number of establishments in Gore’s area which were run by members of the paedophile gang and a number of them subsequently went to prison for abusing the kids in their care. Brown and me knew nothing about Dafydd and the paedophiles then, although we did know that Denbigh had a terrible reputation.

Months and months after Brown finished the work on Gore’s house, a letter for Brown arrived at our house. Brown was visiting his mum in Somerset at the time and told me over the phone to open the letter and see what it was. It was from Leslie Gore and was a vitriolic blistering personal attack on Brown, accusing him of being a ‘conman and a thief’. I think it was the nastiest letter that I had ever read. I wrote back to Gore saying that I was really sorry but Brown was away but he would be in touch as soon as he returned. By return of post I received a reply – an insulting personal attack on me with a few Top Doctor-esque comments about how much he could tell about me from my letter. I wrote back to Gore and told him that I didn’t give a stuff what his ESP told him about me, I did not appreciate these insults coming through our letter box. Our house was then bombarded. Brown gathered up the letters and returned them to Gore unopened, telling him never to come near us again. Gore then sent a postcard so it could not be returned unopened. Scrawled on the postcard was ‘Apolog (sic) – for sharing a few thoughts with you. When two planks dropped out of my door I thought that it was shoddy workmanship. I now realise it was the earthquake.’ (North Wales was clobbered by an earthquake in the summer of 1984, it was pretty good, the earth shook and buildings were damaged.)

So who was this offensive madman whose house was at the epicentre of an earthquake but he didn’t notice and instead hurled abuse at Brown and me – just as I was sitting my finals?

Leslie Gore worked as a therapist at the North Wales Hospital! With alcoholic patients – alcohol and drugs were Dafydd’s speciality (as well as sex therapy and PTSD of course). Prior to that Gore had spent many years working at Newcastle Poly. Regular readers will remember that the paedophiles of north Wales had many connections in the Newcastle area and that Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth, the two paedophiles who really stoked up trade at Bryn Estyn, had previously worked at Axwell Park Approved School in Gateshead. Gore also had a diploma from Imperial College and had worked at Keele University when it was in its early days. Peter Righton, a paedophile who doubled up as a social work academic and used his academic work to justify sex between adults and children, worked at Keele.

Now that Brown and I realise how long ago it was that we were targeted by these gangsters, the lengths to which they went to attack witnesses and that they had help from the security services, I think that it is highly likely that Leslie Gore’s aggro was a present from the paedophile gang. I suspect that the advert in New Statesman may even have been placed there for the purpose – it appeared just when Brown was looking for the very opportunity that Gore was presenting. It also meant that Brown was away during the week, so I was left to deal with the disgusting Wood and Gwynne the lobotomist by myself – and then we had to deal with upsetting shite coming our way as I was sitting finals.

Thanks Wood! What a vile scumbag you are.

If any readers have any info about Leslie Gore, I’d like to hear it.

Thank goodness we didn’t read New Society – John Allen advertised for the violent paedophiles who staffed Bryn Alyn in there.

I have mentioned that Sir Charles Evans, the former Principal of UCNW (Bangor University) protected staff in the University who were facilitating the paedophile gang in north Wales. Evans was a member of the team which made the first conquest of Everest in 1983. The team was led by Lord John Hunt, who held a senior role in the security services.  (See post ‘The Discovery Of A Whole New Galaxy…’ for more information about Charles Evans and John Hunt.) Another member of the Everest team was on the radio yesterday – Jan Morris. Jan Morris was James Morris when she climbed Everest with Charles Evans, John Hunt and co. Jan Morris has done a great many admirable things in her life and fought Top Doctors herself – not quite in the way that I did, but Jan Morris underwent gender realignment surgery when such a thing was virtually unheard of. Jan eventually went to I think Casablanca for surgery. Jan spent her childhood in Oxford and Somerset but as an adult settled in north west Wales near Cricieth and has now lived there for a very long time. She and her son and his family are rooted in the locality and both are very well-informed and well-read. Jan’s son Twm has won Bardic crowns at the National Eisteddfod. Some of the people whom Jan and Twm have associated with I know concealed the criminality of Dafydd and the paedophiles. A few years ago, I saw a photo of Jan with Christine Evans, the now retired surgeon from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, with an accompanying piece of text in which Jan praised Christine Evans. Christine Evans is considered to be a Top Doctor who is very sympathetic to the needs of transgender patients.

Dr Chris might be a star in that regard, but when Mary Burrows was appointed CEO of the Betsi in 2009 and challenged the paedophiles’ friends, Dr Chris manoeuvred herself into the position of head of the Betsi Cadwaladr CHC (Community Health Council). Christine Evans did that for only one reason, as was clear from a blog that she wrote at the time – her aim was to protect all those colleagues of hers who were involved in very serious wrongdoing.

Jan Morris has had a very productive life, despite the distress that she experienced as a result of gender dysphoria – she has been up Everest, has written prolifically and has travelled all over the world. In old age she has spent her years in a lovely spot at Llanystumdwy. The victims of the paedophile gang found themselves imprisoned in Dafydd’s dungeon at Denbigh and a lot of them were found dead before they were 21.

Note to MI5 and MI6: The reason why you are given carte blanche to bug, to burgle, to infiltrate, to place folk under surveillance, to place fallacious news stories in the media, to whip up intrigue, to marry people whilst pretending to be someone else and to generally perpetuate your fuckwittery with no questions asked is that you are charged with upholding national security. ‘National security’ includes the matter of Top Doctors running a sex trafficking ring and providing children to Gov’t ministers for sex and destroying the lives of and killing the witnesses. From what Brown and I alone have experienced over the last 35 years or so, you were not very successful at doing this. You saw what was happening to us and knew who was doing it, but you chose to protect Gov’ts and corrupt professional people instead of us and indeed others who were targeted. Documentation that would have enabled us to publish what I am now publishing on this blog was deliberately witheld until most of the corrupt judges and Gov’t Ministers responsible for the carnage had died. Should you wish to get in touch and explain why the nation should not simply dismantle the NHS, the social services and the security services and save on your salaries, please do – because you do not seem to be fulfilling your remit.

Disgusting of Tunbridge Wells And A Few Equally Disgusting Others

I picked up the latest edition of ‘Private Eye’ earlier today and read a few nuggets of information about some of those who have starred on this blog, which led me to identify yet more accessories.

The ‘Eye’ tells us that Nick Brown, Labour Chief Whip and MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne East, is suing Tom Bower over one sentence that Bower wrote in his book about Blair, ‘Broken Vows’. Nick Brown featured in my post ‘News From Sicily’. Shortly after Ron Davies had his moment of madness on Clapham Common which resulted in him being relieved of his wallet, car and House of Commons pass by a black male prostitute known as Boogie – although the police traced and interviewed Boogie, interestingly Boogie was never charged – Nick Brown, the Minister of Agriculture in Blair’s Gov’t, became embroiled in some sort of scandal involving a rent boy. Blair’s autobiography ‘A Journey’ admits that Alastair Campbell successfully re-packaged the incident as a good-news story about Brown coming out as gay. According to Bower, Nick Brown ‘was accused of paying £100 to rent boys to be kicked around a room, and admitted his sexuality’. Brown is suing Bower over another sentence in the book -not even one that I would have thought was particularly incriminating. Brown hired lawyers Carter-Ruck nonetheless – they lost the preliminary trial and are now in the process of amending their claim. Not only was I alerted by the name of Nick Brown – having recently named him as a member of Blair’s network in the north east of England who may have been involved in silencing matters relating to organised child abuse – but I recognised the name of Brown’s barrister as well, Adrienne Page QC. I mentioned Page in my post about the crooked barrister George Carman QC, ‘No Ordinary Methods’. Page was one of the junior barristers who worked with Carman on libel cases.

Carman was a violent alcoholic with a gambling addiction who was friends with a number of gangsters and bent coppers – he knew about the paedophile ring which operated in north Wales/Cheshire in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. He defended at least one paedophile whom he knew was guilty and was retained by Lord Greville Janner when Janner was investigated for child abuse in Leicestershire. Jimmy Savile was one of Carman’s clients. One of Carman’s junior barristers was a man called Tony Blair. A barrister called Cherie Booth worked in the same chambers – New Court Chambers – as Carman. In 1998 Tony and Cherie – by which time Tony was PM rather than a junior barrister – dropped in on a party held by Carman at the Ritz. Cherie attended Carman’s memorial service after he died in 2001.

The ‘Eye’ mentioned something else of which I was blissfully unaware – that Daniel Finkelstein, whom I just thought of as being someone who writes not very well-argued articles against ‘socialism’ in ‘The Times’, was an advisor to Dr David Owen, John Major and William Hague. Regular readers will know that I have identified all three of these giants of British politics as being involved in concealing the extent of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. I was told that David Owen personally knew at least one of the Top Doctors who was involved with criminal activities in north Wales whilst Top Doctors in the region were facilitating the paedophile ring (see post ‘Dr Death’) and John Major appointed William Hague to orchestrate the massive cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry (see the many posts about Waterhouse).

Danny Finkelstein went to University College School in Hampstead – which was where Trumpers’s husband Alan Barker was headmaster. Jean Trumpington was the Health Minister who appointed Jimmy Savile as manager of Broadmoor (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’). Finkelstein may actually have been a pupil there whilst Barker was head – even if Finkelstein had left by then, it is very likely that he would have known Trumpers and Barker anyway because University College School takes its alumni network seriously. Finkelstein will definitely know Trumpers by now because they sat in the Lords together until Trumpers retired a few weeks ago.

Finkelstein was involved with the SDP during 1981-90. He was Chair of the Young Social Democrats and a close ally of and advisor to Dr Death during that time. Finkelstein was one of the members of the SDP who refused to merge with the Liberal Party to form the Liberal Democrats in 1988 and instead hitched his fortunes up to Dr Death and the continuing-SDP. Dr Death and the continuing-SDP finally died a death at the 1990 Bottle by-election when they famously polled fewer votes that the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. I thought that it was this which prompted my favourite ‘Private Eye’ cover of all time, a photo of Dr Death with the heading ‘Ta Ra Luv’ above it, a reference to the recent death of a Coronation Street star and the Sun’s fairly tasteless coverage of the funeral, but I note that Elsie Tanner – for it was she – died sometime before 1990 so my media-memory is obviously malfunctioning. My second favourite ‘Private Eye’ cover is of course the one which followed the appointment of Labour’s ‘dream ticket’ ie. Kinnock as leader and Fattersley as deputy, featuring a photo of them both with a speech bubble coming out of Fattersley saying ‘Welsh windbag’ and a speech bubble coming out of Kinnock saying ‘slimy fat toad’. However, no matter how bad my memory is, it was a case of Ta Ra Luv for Dr Death in 1990 – it dawned on even him that he wasn’t going to be PM so he stood down from politics and Finkelstein later went to work for the Tories.

One would have thought that what with Finkelstein being a politician and a journo he might have remembered much about the Bootle by-election which finished off the political career of his mate Dr Death. It was the election in which Michael Carr was elected, the Labour MP for Bootle who had tangled with Militant and only survived 57 days as an MP. Michael Carr died after Walton Hospital failed to diagnose a heart attack and sent him home after the briefest of consultations and then failed to revive him when he was readmitted hours later in a coma (see post ‘News From Sicily’). Michael Carr is not the only person who has died after being on the receiving end of the care from Walton NHS, they polished off someone a few years ago who was married to someone who, along with his friend, had dared challenge the paedophiles of north Wales (see post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University!’). Surely the way in which Michael Carr died was worth mentioning when you campaigned for the Tories Danny – and it would have made a good article when you went to work for Murdoch years later…

Before working for the Tories Danny was Director of the think tank the Social Market Foundation for three years.

Danny was head of the Conservative Research Department, 1995-97. In this capacity he advised John Major and attended Cabinet meetings. Between 1997-01 Danny was political advisor to William Hague – during the time that the Waterhouse Inquiry heard evidence from former children in care who had experienced the most terrible abuse, then published the Waterhouse Report which trashed those witnesses in every way possible and downplayed the rock solid evidence suggesting that what had gone on in north Wales had involved a lot more people than a few degenerate old sheep shaggers employed as social workers. During this time, Danny was also Secretary to the Shadow Cabinet, along with George Osborne. Danny and George are mates.

Between 2014-16 CAIS – the drugs charity Chaired by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones who facilitated the paedophile ring in north Wales and has as one of its Trustees Lucille Hughes, Dafydd’s former mistress whom even Waterhouse named as knowing that a paedophile ring was operating in the children’s homes when she was Director of Gwynedd Social Services – was given nearly £1.5 million from George Osborne’s LIBOR fund on the basis of misrepresenting the ‘services’ that CAIS were providing (see post ‘George Osborne Enters The Picture’ for details of the scam).

Whilst Danny was Hague’s political advisor, Amanda Platell was Hague’s Press Officer (see post ‘Did Glenda Occupy A Key Role In Keeping It All Out Of The Media?’).

Danny joined ‘The Times’ in 2001 as part of the leader writing team. He was Comment Editor, March 2004-June 2008 and was then appointed Chief leader writer. He began ‘The Times’ blog ‘Comment Central’ in Sept 2006. Danny is also a regular columnist for the ‘Jewish Chronicle’ and between 2011-17 was Chairman of the think tank Policy Exchange, a right wing think tank established in 2001.

In Aug 2013 Danny was given a peerage.

Danny’s brother is Professor Anthony Finkelstein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at UCL.

David Frum took over as Chairman of Policy Exchange when Danny stood down. Frum is based in Washington DC and Montreal and is a previous Presidential speechwriter. Policy Exchange has become very influential on the right and was responsible for the proposing the notion of Police and Crime Commissioners, a policy which has resulted in a number of paedophiles’ friends being responsible for policing.

Policy Exchange was founded by Nicholas Boles, Michael Gove, Archie Norman and Francis Maude.

Archie Norman was appointed as Chair of M&S two months ago and prior to that – 2010-16 – he was Chair of ITV plc.

Norman’s parents were both Top Doctors and he went to Cambridge University and then Harvard Business School. After he graduated he worked for McKinsey and Co, where William Hague was one of his proteges. He was a Director of Geest and Railtrack and in 1986 became Group Finance Director at Kingfisher plc (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’ for details of Lord Tim Clement-Jones the Group Co-Secretary of Kingfisher plc and Cancer BACUP,  the questionable charity that he established). Norman was Group Chief Exec of ASDA and then Chair, 1991-99. From the early 1990s until 1998 Norman was Chair of The Children’s Trust, a charity for brain injured children.

Archie Norman was elected as Tory MP for the safe seat of Tunbridge Wells at the 1997 General Election. He was selected for the seat as a result of Sir Patrick Mayhew being elevated to the Lords. Mayhew was yet another paedophiles’ friend who made it into the Lords as soon as William Hague had organised the cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry. Mayhew had been the legal assessor for the GMC when Dr Morris Fraser had been allowed to continue practising as a psychiatrist after he had committed sexual offences against children. Mayhew was Attorney General when he authorised legal action against me for contempt of Court at the behest of the Top Doctors and social workers in north Wales. They requested my imprisonment after I had repeatedly written letters of complaint about their criminal activities. The cases fell apart when it became clear that they had perjured themselves, but there was no investigation into their activities or action taken against them. Please see posts ‘The Sordid Role Of Sir Robert Francis QC’ and ‘Some Big Legal Names Enter The Arena’ for details.

Archie Norman supported William Hague’s leadership bid and became Chief Exec of the Conservative Party.

In 2002 Norman was appointed  Chair of Energis. Upon leaving Parliament in 2005 he set up a private equity firm, Aurigo Management. In July 2013 Archie Norman became the Chair of Lazard – he was Chair whilst the firm worked on the privatisation of Royal Mail. In Dec 2013 he was appointed Chair of Hobbycraft. The Dept for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy appointed Norman as lead non-executive Board member in Oct 2016.

Norman was a Director of the Judge Institute of Management Studies (now known as the Cambridge Judge Business School). He was also on the Board of NIESR (National Institute of Economic and Social Research).

Francis Maude was a criminal barrister who was a Tory Councillor for the City of Westminster, 1978-84. So Maude’s time there overlapped with that of Tory Dame Shirley Porter, who became leader of the Council in 1986 and subsequently organised the ‘homes for votes’ scam, was fined millions and left the UK to lie low in Israel for a few years until she was reassured that she would not be arrested when she set foot on British soil again. Dame Shirl was also involved in selling land belonging to Westminster Council in the form of three cemeteries for literally pennies in a dodgy business deal.

Maude was Tory MP for North Warwickshire, 1983-92 and then for Horsham, 1997-2015.

In 1984 Maude was appointed PPS to none other than Sir Peter Morrison at the Dept of Employment – the Peter Morrison who was widely known to be sexually abusing children, including kids in care in north Wales. So Maude was off to a flying start in terms of info that he could use against people to advance himself. Which was probably why he was appointed Assistant Gov’t Whip in 1985, a post he retained until 1987. Maude was a Minister in the DTI, 1987-89; Minister of State for Europe, 1989-90; Financial Secretary to the Treasury, 1990-92. In 1992 he lost his seat to Labour – he didn’t expect this, he thought that he would be in Gov’t along with everyone else who had concealed Morrison’s molesting habits. Maud was made a Privy Councillor in the 1992 dissolution honours to compensate.

Whilst he was out of Gov’t between 1992 and 1997, Maude was appointed a non-executive director of ASDA in 1992; a Director of Salomon Brothers, 1992-93; MD of Morgan Stanley, 1993-97. Between 1994-97 he Chaired the Gov’ts Deregulation Task Force.

When he returned to Parliament in 1997 Maude was appointed Shadow Cabinet Office Minister and Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, with responsibility for preparing the Tories for Gov’t. Some Tories referred to him as ‘the enforcer’. In 2001 he managed Michael Portillo’s unsuccessful leadership bid. Between 2005-07 Maude was Chair of the Conservative Party. As Chairman of the Party he maintained that it wasn’t conservative ideas that had damaged the party, but ‘the Conservative Party, as it was then seen, was damaging good Conservative policies’. It was during Maude’s tenure that the ‘A list’ for Conservative candidates was adopted, prioritising women and ethnic minorities. Maude also founded Conservatives for Change.

Whilst he was in the Shadow Cabinet Maude was a non-executive Director of Jubilee Investment Trust plc, which held 21% of US porn star Jill Kelly’s DVD business. He was also Chair of Mission Marketing Group which advertised for Playboy and was Director of a company which profited from sub-prime mortgages.

Francis Maude extolled the virtues of family values.

When asked what his contribution to the Big Society was, Maude stated that his work as an MP was contribution enough.

Maude was Paymaster General, 2010-15. In this role he was responsible for public service efficiency and reform, reform of the Civil Service, industrial relations in the public sector, the transparency policy and the Gov’t Digital Service. Whilst Maude was responsible for the Gov’t Digital Service, elderly people were forced to apply for key benefits online, although the proportions of elderly people who did not own a computer and who were not computer literate was made clear to Maude. He responded by suggesting that ‘refuseniks’ could be given a one off lesson.

After insulting and impoverishing the elderly, Maude resigned from Parliament in Feb 2016, presumably to fill his boots. In May 2016 he became an advisory Board member at Anvest Partners; in Sept 2016 he became an advisory Board member at OakNorth Bank; in Nov 2016 he was appointed a senior advisor for Covington and Burling LLP; in Nov 2016 he became non-executive Chairman at Cogent Elliott Group Ltd.

Whilst Maude had his big change of heart when he was Party Chairman and decided to tell the world that the Tories weren’t vindictive bastards after all and actually what they really liked was women and ethnic minorities and raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, he said in an interview that Section 28 was ‘a mistake’ and ‘very wrong – very wrong’ (so was molesting kids and killing the witnesses Francis). During this 2006 interview, Maude referred to the death of his gay brother Charles from AIDS in 1993.

Charles Maude was rather different to Francis. Charles was quite flamboyant, bombed around Hampstead on his motorbike and looked like a gay icon. He designed sets for –  among others – the English National Opera and Sadlers’ Wells. Charles Maude became infected with HIV quite early on in the epidemic among gay man of the 80s. He was involved with London Lighthouse, the care facility for people with HIV/AIDS from its beginnings in the mid-1980s. Charles worked as a London Lighthouse counsellor and he ran AIDS awareness workshops for the police and health care workers. At one point he arranged an art auction to raise money for London Lighthouse and recruited the Princess of Wales. Donations were received from David Hockney, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon.

London Lighthouse was founded by John Shine, Christopher Spence and the Rev Andrew Henderson in response to the wholly inadequate facilities that the NHS was providing for AIDS patients. Shine was a nurse at St Stephen’s Hospital (now the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital) and campaigned for the first AIDS clinic to be established at St Stephen’s. Christopher Spence was a bereavement counsellor and Andrew Henderson was the Director of Social Services for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Many of the people who established the early provision for AIDS patients undoubtedly did do a worthwhile job. There was huge paranoia around AIDS patients in NHS hospitals and some of them died grim and lonely deaths with NHS staff refusing to touch them and leaving their meals at the door and that sort of thing. However in the massive effort to dispel bigotry and fear – which was absolutely necessary – no-one mentioned something that all those people working with AIDS patients will have known. That some – absolutely not all, but some – of those patients had led very promiscuous lives and were using rent boys who were kids in care being prostituted out by the paedophile gangs that had infiltrated the social service depts. I personally knew one man from north Wales who died of AIDS who used gay prostitutes in Chester – I didn’t realise at the time but I bet that some of the people whom he was having sex with were those boys in care who Peter Morrison was also abusing. In 1993 Thomas Tyrell-Kenyon, son of Lord Tyrell-Kenyon from Flintshire, died of AIDS – he was known to be using boys in care in north Wales for sex (see post ‘Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Y Byd’). Lord Bristol, John Jermyn Hervey, died from AIDS in 1999 – he boasted of having had sex with literally thousands of rent boys (see post ‘No Ordinary Methods’). For many years I was friendly with an artist in north Wales who absolutely assured me that David Hockney and Francis Bacon – two of the donors to Charles’ Maude’s fund raising activities – were using boys for sex.

So somewhere between the Tories hypocritical open homophobia whilst they concealed the fact that Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s aide – as well as others – were sexually abusing children in care and the desperation of liberal people to demonstrate how enlightened and caring they were in the face of a terminal illness that affected large numbers of gay men, the plight of kids in care being abused and forced into sex work was ignored – as were numerous deaths under suspicious circumstances and the framing of witnesses in order to discredit them.

A Secret And Forbidding Place To Work?

I wrote my earlier post ‘Their Trade Is Fuckwittery’ after reading Greg Dyke’s book ‘Inside Story’. I mentioned in that post that Greg’s book was so full of gems and leads that I’d never have time to blog about it all, so I was just going to write about a few of the highlights. In ‘Their Trade Is Fuckwittery’ I concentrated on the shambles that was TV-am and the questionable conduct of those who were running that company, as well as providing a few details about ITV and Yorkshire Television, two very big players in independent TV. People tend to believe that Gov’ts always have the BBC over a barrel because of the existence of the licence fee and the Charter, which are of course completely in the hands of the Westminster Gov’t, but as I made clear in ‘Their Trade Is Fuckwittery’, other media folk not involved with the BBC didn’t dare fall out with the Gov’t – during the 80s, the Thatcher administrations – because the Gov’t was busy drawing up the legislation relating to broadcasting. There is a very close symbiotic relationship between all broadcasters and Gov’t – Dyke’s book makes the extent of this very obvious.

This blog has previously named towering figures in broadcasting – such as Huw Wheldon of the BBC – who had direct links to those who were overseeing the abuse of kids in care and mental health patients, which might explain why investigative documentaries about such matters rarely got to see the light of day. It wasn’t just the fault of a few individuals like Huw Wheldon though. Senior figures from right across the political spectrum have been identified as being involved with such abuses, so it’s not just a matter of waiting for a change of Gov’t before receiving the all-clear for a documentary – the next Gov’t coming along will be just as compromised. Virtually every other page of Dyke’s book names a senior political figure who is best mates with an influential figure in broadcasting, there are hundreds of close connections between the two sectors. The media world is also small and incestuous, nearly as bad as the world of health and social care – it is just one big game of musical chairs, with people jumping between organisations in ever more senior roles, where they become ever more closer to but at the same time more beholden to politicians. Remember the case of James Purnell, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport until he resigned in 2009 – he managed to leave a job in Gordon Brown’s Gov’t, spend four years as Chair of the IPPR and then walked into a job as Director of Strategy at the BBC on a salary of £295k pa.

Since Jimmy Savile’s death it has become clear that an awful lot of people at the BBC and elsewhere knew that he was sexually assaulting children and young people, despite the official silence. What really struck me as I was reading Dyke’s book though is how many very senior people in TV will definitely have known about organised child sexual abuse and its ramifications. I tend to just perceive people on TV as being obsessed with issues that don’t really matter, people who appear on prime time and talk asinine nonsense. I forget that a great many of these people started their careers as journalists or researchers, either on newspapers or on regional TV or radio. Local journalists do know what goes on – they will freely admit this, but then explain that they couldn’t publish because the editor wouldn’t allow it. That will be true – but their editors will be the local journalists of yesteryear, who are now dining with politicians and don’t want to upset the Gov’t…. This is how a complete silence surrounding certain subjects is maintained.

Dyke names powerful figure after powerful figure in the media whom he worked with years ago when they were local journos or researchers on news programmes or investigative projects who undoubtedly came across the matters discussed on this blog but who never broadcast them, even when they were in a position to do so. A glaring example is Janet Street-Porter, whom Dyke worked with back in the dark ages in the current affairs dept of LWT on a local London programme. Janet was one of the journos going out and about. Street-Porter has latterly reached the dizzying heights of ‘Loose Women’, where matters Jimmy Savile and sexual exploitation by media figures have recently been discussed, as they have on other TV programmes. I watched a clip of someone angrily interrogating Janet and asking her why she had never said a word previously. Janet squawked away in a very vexed manner, maintained that she ‘couldn’t’, because she was a ‘woman’ and women get ‘harassed’. The interrogation continued and Janet then stated that when she was ten she was molested and when she told her mum her mum slapped her. Janet Street-Porter as traumatised victim. An interesting notion – yet Street-Porter went through a phase not so long ago of writing articles denouncing her mother as the most vile old cow and even maintained that she loathed everything Welsh because her mother was Welsh. She may well have been quite right about her mother but EVERYTHING about Street-Porter’s life and career from her teens onwards suggests that she is pretty tough – it is far more likely that she didn’t publish or broadcast because she wanted promotion. By the time that Street-Porter was being interrogated by an angry viewer she wasn’t ten, she was a wealthy senior media executive in late middle-age who scared the knickers off many of her colleagues.

If Street-Porter had really wanted to expose Savile or others like him, she could have – but she knew that the dinner invitations and commissions would dry up if she did. Street-Porter did most admirably have a go at the NHS when her sister died in truly appalling conditions – Street-Porter was editor of the Indie on Sunday at the time and published some very damning articles despite the squealing of the NHS and I was most grateful that she did this. Yet the Indie on Sunday was one of the papers that Gordon Anglesea sued for libel in 1994 after they and others named him as abusing kids in care in north Wales. Last year Anglesea was jailed – for abusing kids in care in north Wales. Did the Indie on Sunday – or anyone else – put the boot in? No. Anglesea had been demonstrated to be a child molester, a liar, a perjurer and someone who trousered nearly £400,000 in libel damages as a result of his criminal activities. Anglesea had also enjoyed the full support of the Police Federation throughout. One of his accusers was found dead shortly after Anglesea won his libel case. Er – fancy a follow up investigation or even an article then Janet? No? Never mind – it’s why I started this blog…

There is only one reason why I am not even ruder about Janet and the others regarding their extended silence – and that is that some very unfortunate things tend to happen to people who merely bump into and spill the pints of those involved with the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Like the young man who dared appear on TV and name Gordon Anglesea as one of his abusers whilst he was a kid in care in north Wales, they tend to be found dead. Janet and her mates are far safer than the former residents of children’s homes or the mental health patients of north Wales, but Greg’s book does mention something similarly very worrying. That Richard Dunn, the head of Thames TV who were responsible for making and broadcasting ‘Death On The Rock’ the documentary about the shooting of the three members of the IRA by the SAS in Gibraltor in 1988 – that so enraged Thatcher and her Gov’t – was in Aug 1998 found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool. The reason given for the cause of his death doesn’t quite add up and anyway don’t bodies float?

Dyke’s book teams with evidence of the favours that people in the media do for politicians whilst they are all on their way up. The earlier part of Dyke’s career as a media big-hitter took place under Tory Govt’s – first Thatcher’s administrations, then Major’s – but the latter half was under New Labour. It was Dyke’s almighty ding dong with Blair’s Gov’t that saw him resign as Director-General of the BBC. Greg caused havoc, but he also got rid of Alistair Campbell as Blair’s Rottweiler in Chief, so we have that to be grateful for.

Dyke’s account nicely illustrates how favours and feuds going back decades and indeed generations influence present day decisions. Greg himself goes back a long way in terms of his friendships with people who later became very powerful. Although as a manager Greg took a very Thatcheresque view of the trade unions in TV and delighted in thwarting them, he admits that a few years previously when he was of them, he too screwed the management over and fleeced them – it’s how he knew the techniques that the unions would employ when he joined management.

Greg’s early power base was at LWT, which certainly seemed to serve him well. At LWT he worked with a John Birt, a Peter Mandelson and a Michael Grade. When Dyke was applying for what seems to be his first go at a worthwhile job at LWT, he was told by a colleague at LWT that John Birt was the most important person on the Board – Birt was then head of features and current affairs at LWT and had been described to Greg as ‘all powerful’. Greg did his best to toady to John Birt in the interview but unfortunately he didn’t actually manage to identify who John Birt was and ingratiated himself to the wrong person. Greg didn’t get the job, but he did get another job with LWT soon afterwards. Greg observed that as Birt became very powerful within LWT, Mandelson – who was a producer – became his best friend.

Birt left LWT in 1987 to become Deputy DG of the BBC – Birt was valued for his expertise in current affairs and was responsible for news and current affairs as Deputy DG. Birt will have certainly have been party to a lot of information by this stage in his career. He had worked at Granada between 1966-71 where he’d been part of the World In Action team, becoming joint editor in 1969. He joined LWT in 1971 and was founding editor and executive producer of Weekend World. Birt then became head of current affairs, then controller of features and current affairs. He worked on Weekend World with Peter Jay.

Peter Jay was the son of two Labour politicians who then married Margaret, the daughter of Jim Callaghan, who later became PM. When Callaghan became PM in 1977 Peter Jay was appointed Ambassador to the US by his friend, Foreign Secretary Dr David Owen. Jay had never held public office and was not a diplomat. Jay did well out of his friends though – he landed a job as Economics Editor of the BBC courtesy of his mate John Birt. At one point Jay was Chief of Staff to Robert Maxwell. Jay was founding Chairman of TV-am (see post ‘Their Trade Is Fuckwittery). Between 2003-09 he was a non-executive director of the Bank of England.

Birt took a break from LWT in the mid-70s to work with David Frost producing The Nixon Interviews, in which they famously managed to get Tricky Dicky to fess up to serious wrongdoing. Birt returned to LWT in 1982 as Director of Programmes. It was in this capacity that he revived the career of a singer with whom he had been friends many years ago when they were young – this is the lady whom I have mentioned in previous posts and comments who was a patient of and a friend of the Professor in the Dept at St Georges Hospital Medical School in which I worked between 1989-91. The Dept which was chaotic, riddled with workplace bullying and which sometime after I left became embroiled in a research fraud scandal, then another scandal in which a fertility consultant was accused of pressurising NHS patients into donating eggs to private patients, then yet another scandal before the Dept was closed down (see post ‘St George’s Hospital Medical School, 1989/1990’). This was also the Dept which employed an MSF rep, David Hole, who as far as I could see was corrupt. Only a few years previously, the Professor of Paediatrics at St Georges, Oliver Brooke, had been jailed for the possession of child porn. At the same time, the Dept of Psychiatry, along with the associated psychiatric unit Springfield Hospital, were as corrupt as fuck and were colluding with the criminal activities of NHS staff and social workers in north Wales, including the concealing of abuse of children in care and of mental health patients (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London…’). The occupational health physician at St Georges, Dr Nicky Mitchell-Heggs, was also on board with all this.

I am sure that John Birt’s showbiz friend knew nothing about the shenanigans behind the scenes at St George’s at all, all she saw were Top Doctors grovelling to her as their highest profile private patient, but I have been told that it was substantially as a result of this lady’s very good relationship with St George’s that the lid was kept on the wrongdoing there. She thought that they were great and used to occasionally mention them when interviewed. By the time that I worked at St George’s this lady was LWT’s biggest star – the two light entertainment shows that she hosted were the root of LWT’s success and profits in the 1980s/90s and she was the highest paid female presenter on UK TV. Her fame was used to conceal some real horrors at St George’s.

Birt’s friend won’t have known what St George’s were concealing, but it’s very likely that Birt with his background in current affairs and extensive network did. Not only was Birt big mates with Mandelson – who was Director of Communications for the Labour Party – but Birt was also a member of the Labour Party at the time of his appointment to the BBC, although this was only revealed later. Which was certainly ironic because Birt had been recruited by Thatcher’s old mate Duke Hussey, who had been appointed as Chairman of the BBC Governors because Thatcher and Tebbit et al were fuming at what they believed were the pinkos working on the Today programme and the broadcasting of a few other things that had upset them, such as ‘Maggie’s Militant Tendency’ (see post ‘Wheels Within Wheels Or Flies Drawn To The Same Incestuously Corrupt Shithouse?’).

Birt was appointed as DG in 1992 and remained in post until 2000. His tenure was certainly controversial. He – along with Hussey – was loathed by many and numerous people became very alienated. Birt was perceived to be Thatcher’s lap dog and he also really liked Management. So much so that as well as all the highly paid managers already in the BBC, Birt spent huge quantities of money on management consultants McKinseys and Co – who had also been sent into the NHS by Gov’t in a vain attempt to address the entrenched corruption and bad practice. Although Hussey and Birt were both hated by much of the media world, they didn’t like each other very much either. Dyke maintains that months used to pass without them even speaking to each other and the final straw came in 1995 when Panorama broadcast the infamous Tell All interview with Diana, Princess of Wales. Hussey was mates with members of the Royal Family and was horrified that he hadn’t been told about the programme until he wasn’t in a position to stop it.

When Birt became DG of the BBC, he fell out with another person with whom he’d been big mates with in LWT as long ago as the 1970s – Michael Grade. Grade got so pissed off with Birt that Grade left his senior post at the BBC and went to Channel 4. Grade later described Birt’s BBC as a ‘secret and forbidding place to work’ in the McTaggart lecture in Edinburgh. The following year the McTaggart lecture was given by Dennis Potter, who put the boot into Birt’s groin even harder and described him and Hussey as ‘croak-voiced daleks’.

It was Birt who was behind the expansion of the BBC into online services, which enraged many people because it squeezed out virtually all other competitors – Birt created a whole New Media Division.

Despite the high levels of dissatisfaction all around at the BBC with Birt’s activities when he was DG, when he left the BBC he picked up a peerage and was appointed as strategy advisor to Blair. Of course Birt already knew Blair – they had known each other since the 1980s. It was Birt who in his capacity as DG at the BBC in 1998 had ordered a blackout on any references to Mandelson being gay, after Matthew Parris let it slip on Newsnight. Mandy had also been a Councillor in Lambeth Borough Council in the late 1990s – Lambeth children’s homes had been choc full of paedophiles for years, but whether Birt was censoring that piece of info as well I do not know. Blair also knew Greg Dyke and Greg’s mate Barry Cox from LWT. Greg first met Blair in 1980 at Barry Cox’s – Greg was a producer with LWT and Blair was working as a barrister, presumably as George Carman’s junior, but told Dyke that he wanted to be a Labour MP. Barry Cox and his wife Fiona Hillary (who was Dyke’s PA for many years) were neighbours and friends of Blair and according to Dyke, when Cox was Director of Corporate Affairs at LWT in the early 1990s (by which time Dyke was Chair of LWT), Cox warned Blair of Murdoch’s dominance and ambitions to achieve further dominance of British TV. Blair knew about the danger that Murdoch posed, but maintained that Labour could do a deal with Murdoch. So that’s how Murdoch ended up taking over the world and telling UK PMs what to do, blackmailing a twelve year old Charlotte Church into singing at a private event of his by threatening to publish stories about her mum who had mental health problems if she didn’t – although Murdoch published the stories anyway a few years later – whilst his staff hacked into the mobile phones of murdered teenagers and purchased stories from police officers, prison officers and NHS staff.

Birt had already begun advising Blair before he was appointed his strategic advisor – Birt had previously dispensed pearls of wisdom regarding criminal justice. Birt – the man who had been DG at the BBC whilst everyone kept schtum about Savile.  Once he became strategy advisor, Birt also advised Blair on drugs, health and crime reduction, as well as other matters. Since then Birt has picked up numerous other advisory roles and directorships, including a consultancy at McKinsey and Co.

In 2005 Birt began a relationship with Eithne Wallis, the former head of the National Probation Service, whom he later married. The wedding was attended by, among others, Mandelson and Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights. Phillips had worked at LWT along with Birt and Mandy.

Although most people are very rude about Birt’s legacy at the BBC – producer Tony Garnett stated that Birt’s regime of ‘totalitarian micromanagement’ remained even after Birt himself had departed – James Purnell believes that Birt’s ‘boldness’ saved the BBC. It certainly ensured that a lot of things were never broadcast, including a lot of things about Mandelson et al.

The Chair of the Governors who appointed Birt, Duke Hussey, later said that he should not have done so. I mentioned previously that Hussey was a political appointment, made by Thatcher et al. No matter how keen Thatcher was to give the Guardianistas at the BBC a kicking, Hussey didn’t seem to be a good choice for Chairman, although he was there for ten years, 1986-96. Hussey had previously worked for Fleet Street, but not as a journalist – all his experience had been as a manager, but he hadn’t had a great deal of success. He had nearly succeeded in destroying the Daily Mail when he had management responsibility for Associated Newspapers. Hussey then became Chief Exec and MD of the Times Newspapers in 1971. He entered into a disastrous war with the unions in the late 1970s during which he decided to lock them out – the lock-out lasted so long that the papers went out of production for the best part of a year, without the unions conceding anything. The proprietors sold out to Murdoch after sustaining substantial losses. The world was astonished that Hussey remained in place after Murdoch took over, but it was speculated that Murdoch only wanted Hussey in place for the shin dig that he was soon to be holding to celebrate the bicentenary of the Times at Hampton Court. Hussey was able to rope Prince Charles in as a guest which afforded Murdoch some good PR.

Hussey was able to secure a high profile Royal because he had close links to the Royal Family. Hussey’s wife Susan had when young been appointed as Woman to the Bedchamber of Elizabeth II, a position that she retained for the rest of her life. Susan was also godmother to the Duke of Cambridge and the Queen occasionally dined at the Husseys’ home. Hussey’s wife also provided close links to the Tory Cabinet – Susan was the elder sister of William Waldegrave, who held a number of Cabinet posts, including that of Secretary of State for Health, 1990-92. Yes, Waldegrave was in office whilst the paedophile ring which involved Thatcher’s aide Sir Peter Morrison raged in north Wales and the mental health services resorted to criminal activities in order to conceal it, whilst they busied themselves with perjury and perverting the course of justice in an attempt to imprison me, whilst five witnesses were killed in an arson attack and whilst the associated corruption at St George’s was in full swing. Waldegrave had also worked in the Conservative Research Dept in 1971 – Matthew Parris worked in that Dept in the 70s and alleged that not only were there many gay men employed there, but at least one senior member of staff was very predatory and was known to go out seeking younger men. Staff in that Dept also holidayed in a destination in Italy at a place known as the Villa of Shame where ‘boys’ were supplied.

Hussey was Chairman of the Royal Marsden Hospital, 1985-98.

Hussey was offered the position of Chairman of the BBC over the telephone by Douglas Hurd, the then Home Secretary. Hussey cheerily admitted that he knew nothing about the BBC – he didn’t even know where it was. When Hurd offered him the Chairmanship Hussey had to look up the location of the building where he would be working. Alisdair Milne was the DG in place when Hussey was appointed but was forced out by Hussey and the Governors within months. Sir Michael Checkland, an accountant, was appointed DG by the Governors as the ‘compromise candidate’, with Birt as Deputy DG. Checkland remained as DG until 1992 and did the bidding of Thatcher’s Gov’t. After his retirement, Checkland was involved in NCH (the National Children’s Home) – which had links to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Checkland also sits on the Board of the Wales Millennium Centre. Checkland was Vice-President of the Royal Television Society between 1985-94. So he was in post when my friend who worked at the Royal Television Society and who wanted to make a documentary about what had happened to me in north Wales was bullied out of her job and later won a case against them for unfair dismissal. I think that it’s about time that I named the foot soldiers who did the dirty deed where my friend was concerned – they were Tony Pilgrim and Claire Price. Price still works at the RTS. Hey Claire, did you know about that employee of yours who was convicted of indecently assaulting a ten year old boy? And did you know that one of your colleagues told my friend – whom you unlawfully hounded out of her job – that it was ‘a pity’ about him being caught?

Hussey’s Vice-Chair at the BBC was Lord Joel Barnett, the Labour MP who had been Chief Secretary to the Treasury when Denis Healey had been Chancellor of the Exchequer under Jim Callaghan. Barnett was Vice-Chair between 1986-93 – he had succeeded William Rees-Mogg.

Hussey was given a peerage in 1996. His obituaries mention that it was uncertain why he was ever offered the position of Chairman of the BBC above other people with links to the Conservative Party – there was speculation that it could have been as a result of his Royal connections or that perhaps William Rees-Mogg suggested his name, Rees-Mogg having been the editor of the Times and supportive of Hussey whilst he was Chief Exec and MD of the Times Newspapers. Greg Dyke suggests that it was Murdoch who recommended that Thatcher appoint him.

Dyke maintains that Hussey assisted Murdoch’s business interests by carrying out negotiations involving the Premier League and thus licence payers money was used to help Murdoch.

Hussey stood down as Chair of the BBC in 1996 – Sir Christopher Bland was then appointed and remained Chair until 2001. Bland had been Deputy Chair of the ITA – which then became the IBA – in 1972 and Chair of LWT in 1984. Bland had been involved with the Conservative Party – he had been a member of the GLC for Lewisham, 1976-70. Lewisham was yet another Council which had a problem with the abuse of children in care – a reader of this blog sent me a link recently concerning a number of cases of abuse that were of course concealed by Lewisham Council when they were brought to their attention. Bland had been Chair of the Tory think tank the Bow Group, 1969-70.

Bland was a Director of ITN, sat on the GMTV Board and was also Chair of LWT. He joined the Board of LWT (Holdings) in 1984 and after the 1993 franchise renewal when LWT was taken over by Granada, Bland was one of the people – along with Dyke – who made a great deal of money. Dyke states that he made £7 million and Bland made much more. According to Dyke this bonanza was engineered by Neil Canetty-Clarke, a merchant banker on placement with LWT, who later became financial director. The huge profits resulted from a clause that had been added to the relevant Parliamentary Bill by David Mellor, who was at the time a junior Home Office Minister.

Christopher Bland was Chair of Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals NHS Special Health Authority, 1982-94 and Chaired Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust including Charing Cross Hospital, 1994-97. So Bland presided over the research fraud and bad behaviour that was occurring in Hammersmith Hospital in the mid-late 1980s, as detailed in my post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’. He will also have been Chair when Lord Robert Winston employed a gynaecologist who was a serial sexual harasser, but passed him onto St George’s Hospital Medical School rather than ensure that he was removed from circulation. Bland was a member of the PM’s advisory panel on the Citizens Charter and co-owned Leith’s School of Food and Wine, with Caroline Waldegrave, wife of Tory Cabinet Minister and Secretary of State for Health 1990-92, William Waldegrave.

Christopher has a son, Archie. The ability to land plum jobs in the media is obviously a genetically inheritable trait – in 2004 Archie was named ‘Guardian Student Columnist of the Year’. In 2012 he became Deputy Editor of the Independent – the youngest Deputy Editor in the paper’s history and possibly the youngest ever on Fleet Street! In 2013 Archie was appointed a senior writer at the Indie and Indie on Sunday and he is at present Deputy National Editor at the Guardian. Perhaps we can expect Archie soon to be given responsibility for some major London teaching hospitals pervaded with corruption carrying out some questionable animal experiments.

Greg Dyke was appointed DG of the BBC shortly before Bland stepped down. Greg’s book describes considerable opposition to his appointment. He believes that the Editor of the Times Peter Stothard led the fight against his appointment. Pauline Neville-Jones, a BBC Governor and a Tory, opposed Dyke’s appointment. William Hague, then the leader of the opposition, wrote to the Chair of the BBC stating that Dyke was unsuitable on the grounds of his Labour Party membership and donations to the Party – Dyke had donated to Blair’s leadership campaign in 1994. Alan Yentob – who later achieved infamy through his involvement with Kids Company – also wanted the job as DG.

Like Bland, Dyke was a media executive who had been asked for his remedy for the NHS. In the summer of 1997, Dyke met Margaret Jay – Minister of State for Health, daughter of former PM James Callaghan and wife of Dyke’s media colleague Peter Jay – at David Frost’s garden party (Greg was a regular at Frost’s garden parties, he bumped into Alistair Campbell at one of them a few years after the huge scrap between the BBC and Campbell). Margaret Jay, Minister of Health under Frank Dobson, subsequently asked Dyke for new ideas regarding the Patients Charter – Dyke was helped in this by Alison Nield, an Angel who became an NHS manager. Dyke’s report was published in Nov 1998, whilst Margaret Jay was leader of the Labour Party in the Lords.

At the time that Margaret Jay was tapping Greg for his wisdom, havoc had broken out in the mental health services in north Wales – this was before devolution, so the NHS in Wales was still run from Westminster. The Hergest Unit had really hit the buffers. The corrupt manager Alun Davies was in the process of closing down the day centre – which was the only part of the Hergest that functioned properly and was overwhelmingly popular with the patients – on the orders of the dreadful Dr Terry Maxwell, the Medical Director of Ysbyty Gwynedd. Maxwell had been given a merit award in return for cutting the mental health services and I suspect that Davies will also have received a ‘performance related bonus’ for his role in the dirty deed. At this time the better staff at the Hergest Unit were very obviously voting with their feet and leaving and the unit was unable to recruit replacements. Patient care began to suffer greatly and a number of patients killed themselves – others became destitute. One consultant, Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), went into meltdown – he was having huge rows with his colleagues in public, patients were told by Angels that Francis was ‘mentally ill’ (which was true, but the information should not have been communicated and certainly not in that manner) and Francis took (very) early retirement soon after. What was happening in north Wales at this time? The Waterhouse Inquiry. By 1998, the witnesses had given evidence and the most appalling catalogue of abuse in the children’s homes in north Wales had been revealed – abuse that had been concealed by the education system, the NHS and many others. Sir Ronnie Waterhouse famously did his best to discredit the witnesses, but it was crystal clear that something very, very grim had gone on over many years and Ronnie did have to fess up to that. Tony Francis killed himself a few years ago – just as Operation Pallial re-opened the investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. I was told recently that he was under investigation himself, but I do not have documentary evidence of this.

So what were Greg’s suggestions for turning around an institutionally corrupt sclerotic NHS which for years has colluded with the abuse of vulnerable people? I haven’t read the report that he compiled for Margaret Jay, but Greg outlines his views in his book. He bangs on about leadership – the NHS has a surfeit of leadership, they’re all fucking leaders in the NHS, I think that they’ve got quite enough leadership – and states that the senior managers in the NHS should be doctors. That is the opinion of many people and one can see the logic, but there are problems with that idea. Good doctors very rarely want to be managers – they want to be doctors. Traditionally in the NHS, there were doctors who became managers (they were called administrators in those days) – it was usually what was done with doctors who were so bad that letting them loose on patients was not a good idea. The documents that my lawyers obtained pertaining to my own case contain numerous references to these doctor-managers that worked in north Wales in the 80s and 90s – for example, Dr Cedric Davies and Dr David Jones. It is quite clear from my documents that these two people had only one function – their status as clinicians was used to further conceal the criminal activities of their colleagues. The lethal lobotomist Dr T. Gwynne Williams had also been given a managerial role – unsurprisingly it compounded the problems. What the NHS desperately needs is high calibre, honest managers who are able to genuinely facilitate the work of the practitioners in the NHS. The NHS has such a rotten culture that managers like that really don’t want to work in the NHS. If they are tempted in, they leave again very quickly.

Greg does of course mention the necessity of ‘culture change’. Everyone who is asked to give their opinion on the NHS mentions this. It is obviously the polite response from people who can barely believe what they have discovered going on in the NHS. But because it’s the NHS no-one dares state what has been uncovered, so it’s all breached in terms of the need for a ‘culture change’. We need HSE prosecutions and indeed even corporate manslaughter charges in certain cases before the ‘culture change’ can begin to happen. Not that the general public have any idea of the state that the NHS is in – because the media won’t report it will they Greg…

Greg mentions in ‘Inside Story’ that Mal Young, who was responsible for drama series at the BBC, was concerned that Holby City and Casualty didn’t reflect real hospitals. Was Mal referring to the fact that in these dramas there are very rarely staff portrayed who are vindictive and abusive to patients or who regularly make mistakes so serious that patients are harmed? Or that these dramas never show staff lying at inquests or in Court, or altering medical records to conceal cock-ups? No, Mal was concerned because he believed that the ‘BBC hospitals’ didn’t show the same racial mix as NHS hospitals – Mal wanted more ethnic minority actors in these dramas, so he sent the producers into some real hospitals to see what they were like. In which case, the producers will have actually noticed that ethnic minority staff in NHS hospitals are disproportionately represented in cleaning, cooking and portering jobs and that if they are practitioners they overwhelmingly tend to be working in the more junior roles or in the less prestigious specialities where recruitment is difficult.

Now I don’t see that on the dramas that Mal was responsible for. Holby City has a consultant neurosurgeon who is Afro-Caribbean and hailed from the ghetto. That would be a very rare thing alone, but Holby City has also managed to find a consultant cardiac surgeon who I think has now been given a Chair as well – one who leads the unit furthermore and is a world expert on experimental cutting edge procedures – who grew up in a children’s home and was sexually abused whilst she was there. The same cardiac unit has yet another surgeon who is Afro-Caribbean and the first in her family to go to university. That’s one hell of a hospital and it’s certainly nothing like any UK NHS hospital that I’ve ever come across – it is a hub of upward social mobility that simply does not exist in UK medicine. Casualty did its bit by having a romance – and then a wedding, albeit one that went badly wrong – between an Asian female doctor and a white male porter. There is a great deal of social snobbery in hospitals and the nearest to the Casualty scenario that I ever came across was a porter at Ysbyty Gwynedd who was caught serially having sex with people on hospital premises. Was he sacked? No – because he actually had a place to read medicine at Guys and Tommy’s and he was working at Ysbyty Gwynedd for a few months before taking up his place. There were similar incidents whilst he was a medical student. He qualified – and returned to work at the Hergest Unit as a psychiatrist. There were a number of concerns raised about him – including by me. I wrote to the GMC, only to find that Keith Thomson, the CEO of the North West Wales NHS Trust, also wrote to the GMC stating that I had made ‘outrageous allegations’. There was no investigation. Some four years later I heard that this man had attacked his wife so violently that she was sectioned such was her distress and that his two children had been taken into care as a result of severe neglect. It was only then that he was stopped from working as a doctor. How did I know all this? Because he was one of my neighbours and I knew him well for about ten years. As did the rest of the village. We saw him attack his dog so ferociously that the dog nearly died and the vet threatened to prosecute him, we saw him kick a neighbour’s cat across the garden because he ‘didn’t like cats’ and we saw a previous partner of his leave with her child and refuse this man access because she was so frightened of his violence. The Rev Wynne Roberts, the hospital chaplain at Ysbyty Gwynedd, was friends with this doctor, knew about his violence and said nothing. Wynne Roberts sat on the Bangor University School of Healthcare Sciences Ethics Committee and was also a member of the Mental Health Act Commission. Wynne had previously worked as a priest in the Church in Wales but had been obliged to leave after he had a sexual relationship with a parishioner – whilst Wynne was married to somebody else as I think was the parishioner concerned – whereupon the North West Wales NHS Trust employed him as their hospital chaplain and later gave him a management role (see post ‘Music Therapy Anyone?’).

Beat that Mal.

Greg states in his book that Foundation Hospitals are the way forward because they ‘give power to local managers’. The local managers in the NHS are like Martin Jones and Keith Thomson – they are mini versions of the corrupt ferocious bullies that are the regional managers and the most senior directors. It is the NHS model of management. Mid-Staffs occurred because a bunch of lying callous dickwits wanted to achieve foundation status – if the managers are both thick and corrupt, no model of management is going to be successful. The mortality rates at Mid-Staffs were known throughout the NHS hierarchy, right up to the level of Secretary of State. The problems had begun under the Tory administrations of the 80s and 90s and became worse and worse and worse, because the response of everyone was to conceal the serious problems. Mid-Staffs was in crisis at the time that Margaret Jay was bollocking on to Greg about the Patients Charter. Whilst patients drank water out of vases, were told to crap in their beds by Angels who couldn’t be bothered to walk across the ward with a bed-pan and were ‘assessed’ by receptionists – and died unnecessarily in great numbers.

Dyke’s observations on the culture and management at the BBC include that there is much inbreeding at the BBC – that is, people working in the BBC being married to each other or being in relationships with each other (just like the prevailing situation in the NHS). What Greg doesn’t mention is that this sort of inbreeding at the BBC is also often the basis for securing jobs or promotion – as is sexual relationships between staff. Neither does Dyke mention the number of BBC staff who are the children of media executives/professionals, often specifically those who have worked for the BBC.

Dyke mentions that in the 80s the BBC was ‘very white, very male’, but with initiatives pushed through by John Birt ‘who felt passionately’ about gender equality this has all now changed – the glass ceiling has been well and truly broken. Dyke also mentions the efforts that the BBC have made towards better representation of ethnic minorities in the workforce. Greg wrote his book some ten years ago. A few weeks ago, a huge rumpus followed the revelations that women at the BBC earned far, far less than their male colleagues – even when sitting in the same studio, presenting the same programme – and that very few people from ethnic minorities were in senior positions or on higher salaries. Because the debate pivoted around gender inequality, the many other injustices barely received a mention. Although women were paid less than men at the BBC, women doing jobs needing a high level of education, knowledge and competence were paid a pittance compared to the airheads presenting light entertainment programmes. Claudia and Tess from Strictly Come Dancing were earning twice as much as Laura Kuenssberg or the women journalists on the Today programme. And everyone was grossly overpaid anyway.

The BBC does now have many senior female executives. They behave pretty much as the senior male executives always have – they are ruthless and obsessed with their status and money. Many of them achieved their positions via relationships with their male senior colleagues and have evolved into cougars continuing this fine tradition with their more junior colleagues. Greg observes that in the BBC, the upper echelons consist of ‘competing individuals in a climate of fear’. Yes – and the women carry on just like the men. Greg doesn’t mention social class – the BBC still draws it’s staff – particularly the senior staff – from the middle classes who have been educated at Oxbridge or Russell group universities. Of course there will be plenty of excellent graduates coming out of those institutions but this phenomenon definitely squeezes out everybody else – it is also closely linked with the nepotism that is so obvious at the BBC. My mum/dad went to Oxbridge/Durham/St Andrews/Bristol, read humanities and spent their careers in the BBC and now I’m doing exactly the same…It’s because we’re all so talented! Unless my mum is Eve Pollard who has edited most of the nation’s biggest circulation newspapers, in which case I’ve evolved into Claudia Winkleman which is why I get paid nearly £500k for wearing too much eyeliner and wiggling my bum once a week on Strictly Come Dancing.

Dyke’s book mentions a few of these women who have broken the glass ceiling at the BBC. One is Jenny Abramsky – now Dame Jenny – who when Dyke was DG was Director of BBC Radio. Abramsky was responsible for digital radio – she ‘persuaded, threatened, cajoled’ everyone at the BBC to push this through; the BBC spent £18 million/yr on new digital services and then had to spend many more millions on the transmission system. There is still a proportion of the population who cannot receive digital radio. When Abramsky strong-armed the BBC into the switch- over to digital radio, it was actually the TV audience which was expanding at the time – radio listeners were dwindling. According to Dyke however, everyone was ‘too scared of incurring Jenny’s wrath’ to oppose the idea. It was commercial radio which really benefited – they wanted the switch to digital because they wanted the new radio stations which would result and they knew that only the BBC was big enough to push the switch-over through.

Jenny Abramsky was married to Alasdair Liddell. Liddell went to Fettes College – the same school that Blair attended and the school at which Blair’s father taught. Liddell was an NHS manager! In the 80s he was involved in the creation of the University College Hospitals Trust – so Alasdair will have known about the dodgy research practices there then. He then went on to manage the East Anglian Regional Health Authority between 1988-94, where he experimented with many of the structures that were later introduced into the NHS – structures which failed. So it was hardly surprising that in 1994 Liddell was appointed Director of Planning for the NHS in the Dept of Health. Liddell went on from success to success – he was the brains behind NHS Direct, another disaster and also worked on various IT projects for the NHS. The ones which cost millions but never got off the ground. In 2000 Liddell left the NHS and joined the PR firm Bell Pottinger – which has just imploded as a result of some very foolish decisions that they made in South Africa. Liddell also joined a company called Healthcare Locums. Now I wonder how they make their money?? Liddell was of course a Senior Associate of the Kings Fund. Liddell is now dead.

Another woman who broke the glass ceiling at the BBC was Carolyn Fairbairn, who when Greg was there was Director of Strategy. Fairbairn had previously worked for the World Bank, as a journo on the Economist, as a consultant at McKinsey and Co and in John Major’s Policy Unit in 10 Downing Street, developing policy on health and social care no less. It was Fairbairn who led the BBC team to secure the DTT licence. According to Greg, Andy Duncan – who later became CEO of Channel 4 – and Emma Scott ‘sold’ the idea of Freeview. The beauty of which was that because the customers have to buy the box, if the box doesn’t work or goes wrong, it’s the customer’s problem not the BBC’s.

Dyke maintains that the BBC wanted people to go digital – the Gov’t planned to switch the analogue signal off because if it wasn’t switched off the BBC couldn’t defend the range of digital services. Freeview also sustains the licence fee – the more Freeview boxes there are, the harder it is for the BBC to switch to subscription services and most boxes can’t be adapted for pay TV. In 1998 the BBC agreed to pay £5 million to BSkyB to put TV services on the BSkyB digital platform – although BSkyB wanted the BBC to do this anyway.

Since her involvement in this scam, Fairbairn has been a Director the FSA, a Director of Capita, a non-executive director of the Competition and Marketing Authority, Lloyds Banking Group and the UK Statistics Authority. In 2015 Fairbairn was appointed Director General of the CBI – the first woman to hold the post! Woman’s Hour had better add her to their Power List. Fairbairn’s husband is described as a ‘multi-millionaire property developer’. So she can afford to be ripped off over her Freeview box – however at least she doesn’t have to run the risk of Crapita screwing up their assessment for her disability benefits, as they have done for thousands of other people.

Dyke was well-known for claiming that he would dispense with the managerialist insanity that John Birt imposed upon the BBC and for subsequently coining the slogan ‘cut the crap’. Cutting the crap sounds an excellent idea, but Greg did seem to introduce quite a lot of crap of his own. He lists numerous initiatives that he introduced – ‘Just Imagine’, ‘Leading The Way’, ‘The Big Conversation’. Why the staff of the BBC just can’t go into work and do their jobs he doesn’t explain, but Greg did all sorts of bizarre things to demonstrate to the staff that a new style of management had arrived, such as ‘allowing the staff to busk in the foyer of Bush House in London at lunchtime’. Presumably Claudia’s 500 grand a year isn’t enough for her to make ends meet, she’s got to play the penny whistle and pass the hat around as well. For ‘The Big Conversation’, Greg boasts of having 17,000 staff in a ‘huge live discussion’ – this meant that £250k had to be spent on extending part of the BBC building to cram in an additional 8000 staff in order that they could ‘watch and participate’. Greg maintains that a ‘party atmosphere’ prevailed and in all 400 events were held, including in Delhi, Moscow, Cairo, Nairobi, as well as across the UK. At TV Centre in White City, Cerys Matthews entertained everyone and food and booze was supplied.

Anyone still up for paying their licence fee?

Greg observes that the only people who didn’t take part in all this idiocy were the Governors – they probably thought that they had better things to do with their time. Like go to Glyndebourne, on BBC expenses obviously. There was one exception – Gavyn Davies, the Chair of Governors who was appointed after Bland, did participate in the crap that hadn’t been cut. But then Gavyn Davies had previously been a partner at Goldman Sachs. Gavyn had also worked in Harold Wilson’s Policy Unit, 1974-76; had been economic advisor to James Callaghan 1976-79 and was one of the ‘wise men’ to the Chancellor of the Exchequer during the 1992-97 Parliament. Gavyn was recommended for the post of Chair of the BBC by Tessa Jowell.

An ‘inspirational leader’, Susan Spindler, was Director of the crap known as ‘Making It Happen’ in 2002. I presume that this is the same Susan Spindler who was involved with making the documentary series ‘Doctors To Be’ which followed the careers of a group of medical students at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School some ten years before ‘Making It Happen’ – which left out a great many things…

More money was wasted on leadership. The BBC used Ashridge Business School for their ‘leadership training programme’. Ashridge Business School was originally a trust established by Bonar Law, the former PM. In 1929 it became a ‘College of Citizenship’ which was established to help the Conservative Party develop it’s intellectual forces in the struggle with left-wing organisations such as the Fabian Society – it was a cross between a think tank and a training centre. It was then re-launched in 1959 as a College providing ‘management training’.

Greg himself was sent to Harvard Business School at a cost of $30,000 which Christopher Bland was happy to sign off. Not only does Greg make it clear that anyone who paid the fee would pass the course – which sounds very familiar – but for some reason it was Greg’s course at Harvard that prompted him to rejoin the Labour Party. Perhaps because Miliband, Yvette et al had all done a stint at Harvard – what with them being so very radical and Yvette being a Woman who’s first job was driving a tractor in Yorkshire, or so she claimed when she thought that she was a dead cert to become Labour leader.

Dyke discusses devolution of broadcasting and tells us that in 2003 he suggested to the Governors that some of the BBC services should be relocated to Manchester, in the wake of much feeling that the BBC was far too centred upon the south east of England and that Scotland and the north of England had become alienated from the BBC. Abramsky threatened to resign if Radio 5 Live moved to Manchester, Jana Bennett the Director of TV – another Strong Woman Who’s Broken The Glass Ceiling – wanted BBC 3 to stay in London and the children’s dept also refused to move. BBC did of course end up building a big centre at Salford – and there has been endless trouble because the staff refused to move out of London.

Even Gavyn Davies was savaged for suggesting that too much BBC money was spent on the southern middle classes, but Greg mentioned that whilst he was DG he sent ‘a signal’ by appointing Pat Loughrey from N Ireland as Director of Nations and Regions.

It wasn’t a signal that anyone noticed. In 2005 I was a member of the public at a ‘meet the BBC’ event in Cardiff. This was when Michael Grade had taken over as Chair and Mark Thompson was DG. Grade and the other Governors were there, as was Thompson and Mark Byford (Mark Byford’s dad played a role in concealing the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal – please see post ‘Top Of The Cops’). The audience were all from Wales – obviously – and Rhun ap Iorwerth, now Plaid AM for Ynys Mon, who used to work for the BBC, was the man with the microphone who went among the audience. Grade gave the best display of rude, anti-Welsh bigotry that I have ever witnessed. The big idiot sat there pompousing away bellowing at Rhun ‘you’re tall aren’t you’. It took me a few minutes to work out what it was all about – it was Grade’s idea of a joke, because as we all know, Welshmen are small, so that they can fit down the mines. Rhun’s height is within the normal parameters for an adult UK male. It didn’t stop there – the rudeness regarding everything Welsh and the lame stereotypes continued all evening. The only person who didn’t lapse into this was the Governor for Wales who had to share a platform with this bunch of twats. He did make a few comments that suggested that they were revealing themselves to be a bunch of racist bastards, but it was water off Grade’s back, the insults continued. When a member of the audience raised the question of Ann Robinson recently insulting the Welsh on TV, we were told that the Welsh had to know when to take a joke. Well I look forward to Ann Robinson blacking up and joining in a song and dance routine a la the Black and White Minstrels and we’ll see what happens. Further details of Grade and his colleagues’ appalling crassness at that event can be read in my post ‘News Round Up, May 18 2017’. Greg Dyke mentions in his book that in 2000 he gave a lecture to the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE). I presume that Grade, Ruth Deech and Richard Tait were not in the audience.

Greg observes that Michael Grade was ‘a good and brave Chief Exec of Channel 4, willing to stand up against bullying from politicians’. Well that’s interesting Greg, because the reason that I take an interest in Grade is that back in the 1980s when Grade was a nobody on the make most famous for simply being a relative of Lew Grade, one of my friends worked as the box officer manager for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival one summer. My friend received a very rude demanding letter from a Samuel Brittan, journo on the FT and brother of Leon – later the centre of child sexual abuse allegations. The letter demanded that my friend send Samuel a ticket for the Fringe and arrange hotel accommodation for him – it ended by saying that Samuel worked at the FT ‘and anyone at the Financial Times can vouch for me’. The letter arrived shortly before the Fringe was due to open, so of course the tickets had sold out and accommodation in Edinburgh is booked up months in advance for the duration of the Festival anyway. My friend wrote back to Samuel explaining that she wasn’t able to send him a ticket or arrange accommodation because both had sold out.

Shortly after, a diplomatic incident occurred. My friend was summoned by High Authorities at the Fringe and given copies of the rude letter that Samuel had written her – as well as a copy of a letter that Brittan had then written to Grade FUMING that my mate hadn’t pulled strings for him and a reply from Grade to Brittan, telling Brittan that he was ‘appalled’ at my friend’s ‘rudeness’ and that Grade would ensure that Brittan got a ticket for the Festival ‘even I have to give you mine’. Someone had demanded that my friend should be dismissed over all this – only that wasn’t really possible, because it was just a summer job. I wanted to send the correspondence to Private Eye – but my friend was then told by a well-wisher that Grade was about to become head of Channel 4 and her planned career in media would be wrecked if any of us publicised the letters.

Grade was given a peerage in 2011. He sits as a Conservative – his wiki entry states that Grade didn’t announce that he was a Tory until 2010. He didn’t need to, some of us had known for years…

A couple years after the BBC event in Cardiff I was chatting to some BBC folk from Cardiff who were all telling me how much ‘charisma’ Michael Grade had and how it was this that had taken him to the top. At the same time there were articles appearing in the UK liberal broadsheets about Grade’s winning ways and yes his ‘charisma’ and how he wears red braces and matching socks. Not a word about doing favours for people who’s brothers are Cabinet Ministers running a corrupt Home Office and who are widely believed to have been tangled up in a child sexual abuse scandal that was covered up by a corrupt Home Office whilst he was Home Secretary. If matching red braces and socks are the essential ingredient to being Chairman of the BBC, there are a great many other people who would be capable of doing that job without grovelling to the relatives of some very unsavoury politicians.

Dyke mentions in his book that Tessa Jowell was very keen for Blair to appoint Grade as Chair of the BBC. Tessa herself earlier in her career knew about the abuse of children in care and psychiatric patients, she worked for some of the organisations that were actually perpetuating and concealing this (see post ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’). However Dyke also observes that Tessa just went along with whatever Blair ordered her to do which is why she was such a pushover when she was at Secretary of State for Media, Culture and Sport. Dear old Tessa did once say that she’d jump under a bus for Blair – so one can’t tell if the driving force behind Grade’s appointment as Chair was Blair, Tessa or someone else. What is clear is that it is very likely that Grade knew something about the chaos and wrongdoing of the inner London boroughs where children were being abused in the 70s, 80s and 90s – run by Councillors like Tessa – and the wrongdoing at the Home Office, run at one point by his mate Samuel’s brother. Grade had spent donkeys years at LWT – he’ll have learnt something from all those current affairs and politics programmes about London that he was involved with making and he’d been toadying around enough politicians for a sufficiently long time to have heard a few things about them as well. Someone who was very much opposed to Grade’s appointment as Chair of the BBC though was John Birt. He tried to influence Tessa and then wrote to Blair telling him that Grade was the worst public appointment he’d made as PM.

It’s not just the Chairs of the BBC Governors who have chums in Gov’t, their relatives do as well. Gavyn Davies’s wife Sue was one of Gordon Brown’s inner circle. As for a few of the other Governors – at one point the Vice-Chair of the BBC was Richard Ryder. Ryder was a former Tory Whip and responsible for organising the revamp that Thatcher underwent in the late 70s. Ryder knew about Sir Peter Morrison’s activities (see post ‘I Want Serious Money Now Please’). Sarah Hogg, wife of Tory Cabinet Minister Douglas Hogg was a Governor – Hogg had previously been head of John Major’s Policy Unit at the time of Black Wednesday in 1992 (see post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’). Although Sarah claims to be one of the UK’s leading economists and was head of the Policy Unit, Black Wednesday wasn’t her fault. So that’s why Sarah was given a life peerage in 1995, just three years after someone else crashed the economy. Sarah then became Baroness Hogg, although she was already Viscountess Hailsham. Hogg was the first women to Chair a FTSE 100 company. Sarah’s daughter Charlotte has inherited her mother’s talent for highly paid jobs – Charlotte Hogg was at one point the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, but the Deputy Hogg had to resign when an unfortunate undeclared conflict of interest was discovered – Charlotte’s brother had his snout in the same trough but the Hoggs forgot to mention it. Another Governor was Heather Rabbatts, the former Chief Exec of Lambeth Borough Council between 1995-2000. So she was running Lambeth Council when Mandelson was a member. Heather was the youngest Council Chief Exec in the UK. She is a black female barrister who advertises her disadvantaged background. I wonder whose Chambers that she might have passed through? Would you happen to know anything about all those kids who were abused whilst in the care of Lambeth Heather? The kids to whom huge amounts of compensation was later paid, not just because they were molested but because Lambeth knew that it was happened but did nothing? Some of those kids were sent by Lambeth to children’s homes in north Wales…

Heather was a BBC Governor between 1999-01. Heather was on FIFA’s anti-discriminatory task force until she resigned in 2015 after Sepp Blatter was re-elected as President. So she was busy not discriminating there whilst he was President for his first innings at FIFA then – didn’t she notice what he was like? Heather was named in the Woman’s Hour Power List!

Greg’s time as DG ended notoriously as sparks flew between the BBC and Blair’s Gov’t – most obviously in the form of Alistair Campbell – which eventually resulted in the resignation of Dyke and Gavyn Davies and a number of other Governors. The row was precipitated by a report regarding Saddam Hussein’s WMD by Andrew Gilligan that was broadcast on the Today programme that Blair et al took umbrage over. The Gov’t tried to pressurise the BBC into saying that Gilligan’s story wasn’t true and when the BBC refused to do this, Mandelson rang his old friend Caroline Thomas who was Director of Policy at the BBC and told her that the BBC would get the full force of the Gov’t PR machine. Mandy was as good as his threat and Campbell et al mobilised against the BBC. In the cross-fire Dr David Kelly’s name was made public by the MoD and Downing Street’s Press Office. Dr Kelly was later found dead, supposedly as a result of suicide, although the injuries that were stated to have been found on Dr Kelly’s body and the quantity of drugs that were said to have been found in his blood would never have been enough to kill him. A group of medics did make this point in a letter to the press sometime afterwards, but nobody took any notice of them. If only they’d alleged that they were being attacked by dangerous mental health patients – their concerns would have been headline news then.

The uproar was such that it led to the Hutton Inquiry, which was about as honest and transparent as the Waterhouse Inquiry. Before Hutton published his exoneration of Blair, Dyke alleges that Philip Gould, a member of Blair’s clique, was asked if the Report could prove difficult for the Gov’t. Gould is alleged to have replied ‘don’t worry, we appointed the right judge’. When Rebekah Brooks ended up in deep shit after the serious wrongdoing of News International became public, it is alleged that she went to Blair for advice and was told ‘tough up and arrange an inquiry that will clear you’. Which is exactly what Brooks did – as well as ‘leaving to start a family’ (I think Rebekah had to resort to fertility treatment to do this, she was no spring chicken, so presumably starting a family had not been a priority previously), receiving at least one million from Murdoch – to pay for the pram and nappies obviously – only to return at a very senior level in Murdoch’s empire a few years later! A lot of people were of the opinion that Brooks should have gone to prison along with her staff. But she had advice from Blair and shared horses with David Cameron…

Grade himself departed from the BBC in a puff of smoke to move into the most senior position at ITV. The next Chair of the BBC was Chris Patten who angrily refused to shoulder any responsibility at all when Jimmy Savile and the Newsnight allegations regarding the abuse of children in north Wales exploded in his face. This is the Patten who was Chair of the Conservative Party when Sir Peter Morrison was busy with kids in care in north Wales, the Chris Patten who’s wife Lavender was the Patron of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre that was established and run by Professor Mark Williams. Not only was Patten himself Chancellor of Oxford University at the time, but Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy was based on a research fraud that Williams had carried out whilst he was working as a clinical psychologist in Bangor in the late 80s/early 90s (see post ‘The Biggest Expert Of The Lot’). Whilst patients killed themselves and were left destitute. Williams’s ‘fieldwork’ was carried out by the notoriously abusive Arfon Community Mental Health Team, whose colleagues were some of the social workers responsible for the abuse of children in care in north Wales. An early publication of Williams’s had an acknowledgement to Keith Fearns. Keith Fearns was the Gwynedd social worker who perjured himself in court on the orders of Lucille Hughes in order for Gwynedd County Council to obtain a High Court injunction against me to prevent me pursuing my complaints against Gwynedd Social Services. Fearns had never met me when he swore his affidavit. Lucille Hughes was named in the Waterhouse Report as knowing that a paedophile ring was operating in Gwynedd Social Services when she was Director, but she failed to act.

Like the NHS, the BBC seems to be a complete recidivist. One of my friends worked there in the late 80s and he spent the best part of a year watching the entrenched corruption, with commissions given out to friends of people at the BBC and the fuckwit children of bigwigs at the BBC turning up in plum jobs. He also noticed that a lot of the senior managers at the BBC were older gay men who had a rather worrying sexual interest in much younger boys. The BBC seems to have got away with a great deal in its time. Just before my friend worked there, Private Eye used to provide updates on the activities of a manager there whom they named ‘spanker’. I can’t remember Spanker’s name, but I do remember the Eye’s regular reports on him. Spanker was interested in women rather than men, but he made a habit of asking young women who had applied for jobs at the BBC whom he was allegedly interviewing if they’d let him spank them. Spanker continued to do this even after the Eye began publishing articles about him – he did eventually resign but it took a while. Neither do I remember hearing about Spanker from any other media outlet.
