The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part IV

I wasn’t planning to publish this post just yet, but I  have prioritised it as a result of a number of recent requests. So by popular demand, I introduce – Alan Milburn and chums.

Alan Milburn was the New Labour politician who was always described as being politically closest to Blair, although it was dear old Tessa the paedophiles’ friend who memorably said that she would jump under a bus for him. Millburn is currently the ‘Social Mobility Tsar’, ie. Chair of the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission, a position to which he was appointed under the ConDems Coalition Gov’t. Milburn’s Deputy Chair was Neil O’Brien, the Director of right wing think tank Policy Exchange, founded by paedophiles’ friends Francis Maude and Archie Norman (see post ‘Disgusting Of Tunbridge Wells And A Few Equally Disgusting Others’), but it is now Gillian Shepherd who was a Cabinet Minister in John Major’s Gov’t. Prior to this role, Milburn was the Chair of the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions which was set up by Gordon Brown and included senior Lib Dem strategist and advisor to Clegg, Neil Sherlock. Milburn was all over the media a couple of days ago expressing his deep distress that social mobility just wasn’t happening in the UK. Could that possibly be at all related to twenty years of you and your ilk dominating policy Alan? The ConDems didn’t even bother to get themselves new policy advisors, they used the left-overs from Blair and Brown – Cameron and Cleggy and then even Theresa May inherited loads of them. Alan Milburn and Louise Casey’s ideas didn’t work twenty years ago and they’re still not working. Nonetheless Louise – who’s mate from university memorably took part in a ‘profile’ programme for Radio 4 and remembered going inter-railing with Louise when they were undergrads and explained that they ‘ate cheese and onion crisp sandwiches and giggled’ – is now Dame Louise. I can only presume from what Louise passes off as policy reports – which contain such gems as observing that low income households often also suffer from associated issues such as mental health problems and incest (it’s those council house people again and I bet that Louise found coal in their baths as well) – that she still spends most of her time eating crisp sandwiches and giggling.

Milburn is not however best remembered for his laughable appointment as Social Mobility Tsar. Milburn became notorious as Secretary of State for Health, Oct 1999-June 2003. I will return to this part of Milburn’s glorious career later in this post.

Milburn was MP for Darlington, 1992-2010. Darlington was a safe Labour seat – and the neighbouring constituency to Blair’s. By the time that Milburn was elected, Blair had been the MP of the neighbouring constituency of Sedgefield for nine years, but wasn’t yet leader of the Labour Party. Milburn will have been selected for that seat on Neil Kinnock’s watch – Milburn was elected in April 1992, three months before John Smith became leader. By the time that Milburn won Darlington, what later became the New Labour machine was well-advanced – Mandelson was running the show and Alastair Campbell had been a advisor close to Kinnock  for years and even used to go on holiday with the Kinnocks. Numerous other future key figures in New Labour were playing leading roles. Although Milburn wasn’t elected until 1992, he’d been beavering away for a long time.

Milburn was born in County Durham and grew up in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. He graduated from Lancaster University in 1979 and according to his wiki entry, after graduation he ran a radical bookshop, ‘Days of Hope’. However a BBC News report from May 2002 features comments from trade unionist  Alec McFadden, one of Milburn’s mates from his youth. Alec met Milburn when Milburn was doing a PhD at Newcastle University which Milburn never completed. In those days Milburn was committed to CND and world peace and was a fierce opponent of private medicine. McFadden and Milburn both marched across the Tyne Bridge on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the NHS wearing badges which read ‘public it’s ours, private it’s theirs’. McFadden met Milburn in 1979 when McFadden was the regional President of the TUC and Milburn went into his office looking for welfare advice. Within months Milburn had abandoned his PhD, had become involved in local activism and began working as the sales assistant in Days of Hope. Milburn was attending CND meetings around Tyneside and spent a lot of time in pubs debating revolutionary politics. When he was 23 yrs old Milburn married his first wife Mo O’Toole and McFadden was best man.

Mo O’Toole went to school in Newcastle and then on to Northumbria University. She split up with Milburn in the late 1980s – at the time she was a Labour Councillor in Newcastle. She did a PhD at Newcastle University, lectured at Bristol University and then at Newcastle University. Between 1999-2004 Mo was a Labour MEP for the North East of England.

Mo’s LinkedIn profile tells us that she was Stakeholder Partnerships Manager, English Regions, 2005-08; Co-Owner and Managing Partner of Carruthers and Kent Wine Company, Shop and Deli, 2010-present day; Visiting Professor of Culture, Creativity and Innovation at Newcastle University, 2008-present day.

Mo is someone else who has remained silent about a great deal. She made it onto the all-women shortlist for the safe Labour seat of Bishop Aukland for the 2005 General Election but wasn’t selected. Helen Goodman was the lucky winner and was subsequently elected.

Goodman is an Oxford graduate who began her career in HM Treasury. She is a member of the GMB and was Head of Strategy at The Children’s Society. Goodman worked as a researcher for Philip Whitehead who was Labour MP for Derby North, 1970-83. A number of those who abused children in care in north Wales throughout the 70s and 80s had previously worked in Derbyshire. John Jillings who led the 1993-96  Jillings Investigation into the abuse of children in care in north Wales was the former Director of Derbyshire Social Services. The Jillings Report was so damning that it was pulped and even the Councillors of the Council who had commissioned the Report were not given access to it (see post ‘It’s A Piece of Cake’), but one thing that was widely suspected was that even Jillings had sanitised the situation in north Wales. Jillings was frank that the most terrible abuse had gone on, but he certainly pussy-footed around the question of whether a paedophile ring was in operation and in the end he just decided that it was best not to comment about that particular possibility. He was probably bearing in mind that the year before he was commissioned to conduct that investigation five witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were killed in an arson attack.  Philip Whitehead also served as an MEP, 1999-2005, first for Staffordshire East and Derby and then for the East Midlands. Staffordshire was host to the ‘pin-down’ child abuse scandal in the mid-80s and whistleblowers found themselves fitted up for child abuse themselves (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I). Staffordshire also of course had a lethal NHS which wiped out the local population for years. Before Philip Whitehead was a politician he was a documentary producer – he worked independently as well as for the BBC and ITV, 1967-70, as an editor. After he lost his Commons seat in 1983, Whitehead returned to TV work.

Some of Helen Goodman’s work was funded by the Runnymede Trust, through which a number of the paedophiles’ friends named on this blog have passed. One of the founders of the Runnymede Trust was barrister Anthony Lester. Lester was Chair of the Runnymede Trust, 1990-93. Anthony Lester had been special advisor to Roy Jenkins when he was in the Home Office in the 1970s concealing organised child abuse (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I’). In 1981 Anthony Lester joined Roy Jenkins in establishing the SDP. Jenkins was later a mentor to Blair. In June 2007 Gordon Brown appointed Lester special advisor on constitutional reform to the Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw – Straw had been appointed to that role the day before.

McFadden notes that Milburn’s skill with the media was apparent even back then. In 1983 Milburn joined the Labour Party after becoming involved in the unsuccessful campaign to oust the Conservative MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Central, Piers Merchant. Merchant was elected in 1983, so that campaign must have kicked off virtually as soon as he became the MP. Merchant lost Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Central in 1987 but was elected as Conservative MP for Beckenham in 1992.

Piers Merchant was someone who found himself embroiled in a number of sex scandals. Prior to the 1997 General Election he was caught by a photographer from the Sun having some sort of sex in a public park in south east London with a ’17 year old Soho nightclub hostess’. Piers was married and his side of the story was that the ‘hostess’ was simply a friend and that there was no question of a sexual relationship with her. He and his wife were photographed doing the usual canoodling bit in order to demonstrate that there was no truth in the allegations, although the Sun had provided some rather damning evidence. Nonetheless Piers was re-elected. Not long after he was returned as MP however, there was another tabloid story about Piers and the hostess – Piers’ explanation was that the hostess was now his research assistant, they were writing a book together and that the teenager was a family friend. Piers’s wife was photographed hugging the teenager and told the press that she had no problem with the teenager being in the family home. However, the Sunday Mirror had secretly filmed footage inside what was described as Piers’ and the teenager’s ‘love nest’. Piers claimed that he had set up this whole sting himself, with the help of his friend who had received £25k from the Sunday Mirror – the explanation being that it was Piers who was trying to entrap the newspaper, presumably to expose their techniques. Later still, Piers stated that although he was having an affair with the former hostess, he hadn’t been previously. The teenaged hostess subsequently returned to live with her parents and they expressed the opinion that she had been ruthlessly used by Piers and that he had wrecked her life. Piers stood down from Parliament when the scandal refused to die down. Piers was caught up in another scandal as well, concerning his extra-marital affair with a 41 year old woman.

After Piers left Parliament, he joined UKIP and in 2004 stood as a candidate in the European election. Robert Kilroy-Silk, a fellow UKIPPER, sent Piers a note saying ‘please do not stand within 10 yards of me because I am sure you’ll understand that I do not wish to be photographed with you’. In the mid-1990s Robert Kilroy-Silk invited Dr Dafydd Alun Jones onto his TV show as an ‘expert’. At that time Dafydd was facilitating a paedophile gang, was lying in Court and was handing over whatever drugs his addict patients requested – some of them were selling those drugs onto local school children. Dafydd had been sued for unlawfully imprisoning Mary Wynch, had unlawfully imprisoned other people, was known to be having sexual relationships with patients and had threatened and then tried to bribe me into withdrawing my complaint about him. Kilroy – you’d have been better off with Piers.

As far as I am concerned, whether Piers was having extra-marital affairs or not was a matter for him and his wife. It is very difficult to actually get to the bottom of what Piers was up to and who was entrapping who, but I’m interested that tabloid newspapers were vigorously pursuing Piers. The reference to a Soho nightclub ‘hostess’ is an obvious suggestion that Piers’ friend was a sex worker – she was a young one at that. Piers was elected for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1983 but lost his seat to the Labour candidate Jim Cousins in 1987. At that time the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal – that useful distraction from the activities of the paedophiles and their friends in north Wales – was at its peak. Piers was then re-elected as Tory MP for Beckenham in Kent in April 1992, which was where he encountered the problems with tabloid nespapers. I knew Beckenham vaguely. You’ve guessed it – I worked on an MSc project with the Wellcome Laboratories at Beckenham in Kent in 1987, during those years when unbeknown to me the paedophiles’ friends of north Wales were stalking me and contacting everybody that I was working with. Piers will have been selected as the candidate for Beckenham sometime after losing his Newcastle seat in 1987 but before April 1992. During that time, Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I were all raising concerns about the criminal activity in north Wales and police investigations into a possible paedophile ring had begun. There were repeated attempts to frame me for serious offences and I had been hounded out of my career. Days after Piers was elected, five other witnesses were killed by a petrol bomb. I absolutely accept that Piers being selected to stand for that constituency may have been totally unrelated to the activities of the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales, but a few things are worth mentioning.

There was a campaign to remove Merchant from office in the early 80s in which Milburn was active and it was as a result of this that Milburn joined the Labour Party. I can find no information as to WHY there was a campaign to remove Merchant – Milburn knows but doesn’t ever seem to have spoken publicly about it, even when Marchant became embroiled in high profile sex scandals. Merchant – and Milburn – lived and were active in politics in a region of paedophile activity, to which the paedophiles in north Wales had very strong links. Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth worked at Bryn Estyn when the most serious abuse of boys in that home took place – Arnold was Head and Howarth later went to prison for molesting the boys at Bryn Estyn – after they had both relocated from the Axwell Park Approved School in Gateshead where it seems that they were known about and were very likely to have been afforded protection by Ernest Armstrong, the MP for North West Durham and father of Blair’s big mate Hilary Armstrong (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’). Hilary Armstrong succeeded her father’s seat in 1987.

Merchant was up to something which had brought him to the attention of tabloid newspapers and whatever it was his wife was colluding with, or at least tolerating, it. Tabloid newspapers don’t usually get that excited about MPs having heterosexual affairs with women to whom they are not married – they’ll run a story, but all is usually forgiven and forgotten after a photo-call featuring the MP and his family and a few contrite words from the shagger himself along the lines of how lucky he is that his wife is standing by him and how of course she’s always really been the only one for him, a la John Major, Cecil Parkinson, John Prescott, Paddy Ashdown and many more. Tim Yeo had five mistresses at once and Alan Clark wanted to have sex with anything that was female and alive, none of it was considered that horrifying. What if Piers Merchant’s tastes had run to rather more than adult consenting women? The tabloids won’t have dared to have publish it in the same way that they didn’t publish a word about Sir Peter Morrison, Cyril Smith or even Jimmy Savile, but they will have known and will have been interested in him.

A few more interesting things about Piers – he graduated from Durham University in the early 1970s and then spent nine years working as a journalist in Newcastle. So Piers began his career as a local journo just before Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth relocated from Gateshead to Bryn Estyn. Piers then went into PR work. After Piers was elected for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, he worked as PPS for Peter Lilley when Lilley was Secretary of State for Social Security, 1992-97. As well as being remembered for singing nasty vindictive songs about people with less money than him at the Tory Conference, Lilley is also remembered for being the centre of allegations that he was gay but didn’t dare admit it. Merchant was a Tory MP when Sir Peter Morrison, MP for Chester, was at the heart of Thatcher’s Gov’t. Morrison was Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, 1979-81; Minister of State for Employment, 1983-85; Minister of State for the DTI, 1985-86; Deputy Chairman of the Party, 1986; Minister of State for Energy, 1987-90; PPS to Thatcher, July-Nov 1990. Throughout this time Morrison was molesting children, including children in care in north Wales.

I really cannot work out what Merchant was up to himself but he’ll have known about Morrison because they all did and I bet that he knew about Arnold and Howarth when they were in Gateshead.

The man who replaced Piers Merchant as MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Central in 1987, Jim Cousins, was a product of New College, Oxford, an institution that educated quite a few of the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘A Study In Tyranny’). Cousins was considered a member of the awkward squad in the Labour Party – he rebelled on matters such as the Iraq War. However he was fully behind New Labour’s NHS Reforms. Before he was elected to Parliament he was a lecturer at Sunderland Poly, 1982-87. So he’ll have had local knowledge. Cousins had been a leading member of the Liberal Club when he was at Oxford in the mid-60s – so it’s very likely that he knew the sort of things that Jeremy Thorpe was doing (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’).

Jim Cousins was selected as a Labour candidate and then voted into Parliament in the midst of the then biggest child abuse scandal that the UK had experienced. He doesn’t seem to have said much about it – but then most of the other local MPs didn’t either. Cousins, like most of the other New Labour stalwarts featured in this post, was selected by Kinnock’s Labour Party machine – the Kinnock who knew about the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales, who along with his wife Glenys was a long-standing personal friend of Lord Cledwyn who concealed the wrongdoing of the paedophiles and their friends for years (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’), who had recently selected Blair for the safe seat of Sedgefield next door to the Armstrong’s fortress. Blair – a barrister from London who had worked as a junior for the crooked barrister George Carman who knew about the paedophile gang in north Wales/Cheshire and who was married to Cherie – who worked in the same chambers as Carman and was ‘mentor’ to scores of other young barristers who were ignoring organised child abuse. Lest anyone think that I’m on the Grassy Knoll, I’ll just remind them that by this time Kinnock had embarked upon his ‘modernisation’ of the Labour Party and Mandelson was the man orchestrating it. It was for the 1987 General Election campaign that Mandy produced the infamous ‘Kinnock – the movie’ film, in which the elderly of south Wales were filmed saying what a nice boy Kinnock was and which featured shots of Kinnock and Glenys walking along the Great Orme, where neither of them lived or had ever lived. Mandy could have dug up just as many people from Wales who would have frothed at the mouth about Kinnock’s opposition to devolution, or people with whom he went to university who viewed him as a thick wally. Mandy could even have wheeled out Dr Tony Francis (Dr X)- a paedophiles’ friend from north Wales who was busy perjuring himself and telling others to do so as well in attempts to frame me after I complained about him, Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and Gwynedd Social Services breaking the law and threatening me – who told a number of students in north Wales who had also complained about the mental health services that he knew Kinnock from his time at Cardiff University.

In 1987 Mary Wych, Alison Taylor and I were all shouting as loudly as we could that something terrible was happening in north Wales. Alison was a Gwynedd social worker who blew the whistle on the abuse of children in care and alleged that a paedophile gang was at work.

So Milburn joined the Labour Party in 1983 for some unpublicised reason related to the failure of the campaign to have Piers Merchant removed from office. Alec McFadden remembers that Milburn enhanced his standing in Labour Party circles in the north east by editing a trade union sponsored tabloid called Rostrum. It was at this time that McFadden claimed that Milburn began to change his image – he lost his beard and long hair. In the mid-80s Milburn landed a job as co-ordinator of the Trade Union Studies Information Unit, an organisation that we are told was ‘County Council based’, although which County Council is not made clear. The problem of the abuse of children in the north east will have been located in the Local Authorities.

Milburn became Chair of the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Central Constituency Labour Party.

In 1990 Milburn became the Business Development Officer for North Tyneside Borough Council and President of the North East Region of MSF. MSF was the union which represented many of the non-clinical staff in the NHS and in universities. In 1990 I was working at St George’s Hospital Medical School and gradually being hounded out of my job – one of the those involved was the Departmental rep for MSF, David Hole, who as far as I could work out was corrupt, as were some of his fellow MSF reps.

In 1990 Milburn secured the Labour nomination for the Tory marginal  seat of Darlington – the neighbouring constituency to Blair’s constituency Sedgefield. In April 1992 Milburn won the seat off Tory Michael Fallon – he who recently resigned from Theresa May’s Cabinet because he had touched a friend of many years standing on the knee whilst having a meal with her. No-one has yet found out the real reason why Fallon scarpered, but I notice that Fallon was PPS to dear old Cecil Parkinson in 1987. Whilst Sir Peter Morrison was busy with boys in north Wales and Cheshire as well as in other parts of the UK. On one occasion Morrison was seen driving away from Bryn Estyn with one of the boys in his car. The Bryn Estyn which was employing Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth who had relocated there from the Axwell Park Approved School in Gateshead – where there had been allegations that Howarth had molested youngsters.

Milburn was elected as MP for Darlington in April 1992 – at the same General Election which saw Piers Merchant elected for Beckenham, at the General Election in which Sir Peter Morrison stood down as an MP. Another very well-known figure was elected to a constituency in the north east of England at the same General Election – Mandelson. He was elected for Hartlepool. Just days after that election, five witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were killed in an arson attack started by a petrol bomb thrown into the building after they had all been invited to a party (see post ‘The Silence of the Welsh Lambs’). The man who allegedly confessed to starting the fire was hit by a lorry and killed a few days later and one of the survivors of the fire who had also been in care in north Wales as a child was found dead in questionable circumstances at a later point after he told people that victims of the paedophile gang in north Wales were being murdered because they had knowledge of sexual liaisons involving politicians. At the time of the fire, police investigations into a possible paedophile ring in north Wales and Cheshire involving public figures had begun.

Milburn became good mates with Blair, Hilary Armstrong, Mandy and the in-crowd. Alec McFadden told the BBC that he and Milburn drifted apart after Milburn became an MP. Milburn has denounced his own beliefs from his days in the Marxist book shop as ‘crackers’. McFadden also stated that ‘Alan has said it would be foolhardy to be in total opposition to Mr Blair’ and that Milburn ‘doesn’t have the right to choose for himself and decide policy’. Yes but when witnesses to a paedophile ring are being murdered Milburn it’s time to speak up or at least disentangle yourself from the people who are either doing it, concealing it or keeping a lid on it in order to become PM.

McFadden mentioned that Steven Byers was another ‘old mate’  who had effectively sold out. Byers was another ally of Blair who was based in the north east of England. He was elected as MP for Wallsend in 1992 and when that constituency was abolished was elected for the safe seat of North Tyneside, 1997-2010. Byers first stood for Parliament – for Hexham – in 1983. So he was someone else selected to stand for Labour whilst Kinnock was leader. Byers has a Chester connection – he went to Chester City Grammar School, then Chester College of Further Education. He read law at Liverpool Poly – as did the former leader of Plaid, that great friend to the paedophiles’ of north Wales, Ieuan Wyn Jones, although Jones is four years older than Byers. Byers then became a law lecturer at Newcastle University. He was elected a Councillor for North Tyneside District Council in 1980 and became Deputy leader of the Council in 1985 – someone else who will have heard about child abuse on his patch and who was on the doorstep when the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal occurred.

In 1993 Byers became an ally of Blair when Byers became a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee. Byers subsequently identified himself as an ‘outrider’ for the New Labour project.

When Blair became Labour leader he appointed Byers as a Whip and when Blair became PM Byers was appointed Minister of State in the Department of Education and Employment under Secretary of State Estelle Morris. Morris famously resigned from that post saying that she realised that she wasn’t up to the job, was becoming unwell with the stress of it and would be much happier out of Gov’t. This resulted in Morris being widely derided for her honesty – but what if Morris had found herself surrounded by ruthless unscrupulous people who were building their careers on the back of their knowledge of something terrible which they were concealing?

When Byers was appointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury in July 1998 he also became a member of the Privy Council. Stephen Byers was, variously: Minister of State for Education; Chief Secretary to the Treasury; Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and President of the Board of Trade; Secretary of State for Transport, Local Gov’t and the Regions. In 2010 Byers was caught in a lobbying scandal by journalists from the Sunday Times boasting of his access to Andrew Adonis and Mandelson and describing himself as a ‘cab for hire’. He did not resign from the Labour Party but was subsequently banned from Parliament for two years.

When Blair won the election in 1997 Milburn was appointed Minister of State for Health under Secretary of State Frank Dobson. Dobson was known to be completely opposed to any sort of privatisation of the NHS and is known for not having the sort of allegiance to Blair and New Labour that Milburn had. Dobson is generally portrayed as a genial Father Christmas character – he didn’t thrive under Blair’s regime but he was wheeled out by Blair in 2000 in an unsuccessful attempt to stop Ken Livingstone becoming London Mayor. However I note that Dobbo was elected as a Labour Councillor for Camden London Borough Council in 1971 and very soon became leader of the Labour Group on the Council and therefore Leader of the Council. He resigned in 1975 when he was appointed to the impartial role of Assistant Secretary of the Office of the Local Ombudsman, a job he retained until 1979.

Dobbo was MP for Holborn and St Pancras 1979-2015 – so he was around a very, very long time, particularly when one takes into his account his years on Camden Council. Dobbo was present throughout the paedophile years and involved with a Council choc full of future New Labour stars who were up to their necks in wrongdoing, including their silence regarding the organised abuse of children – including Tessa, David and John Mills (see posts ‘The London Connection’ and ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’).

I have mentioned many times on this blog that in the first few years after the new millennium figures were released which showed that Conwy in north west Wales had the second highest suicide rate for women in England and Wales. No-one could understand why because Conwy is a rural area, wealthy by north Wales standards and very desirable. There was never an investigation – which probably was no coincidence because an awful lot of people believed the problem was almost certainly related to the presence of the lethal Dr Tony Roberts as the psychiatrist leading the mental health team for Conwy, who’s goal in life seemed to be to cause as many patients as possible to commit suicide by refusing to believe that anyone was ill no matter how ill they were. In 2002 Tony Roberts did his best to kill me – he ordered an on-call GP to ‘do nothing’ on the grounds that I was a ‘known troublemaker’ after the GP contacted him and described me as ‘suicidal ++++’. Roberts then ordered every other doctor not to treat me, ignored letters from my lawyers telling him that I had a legal right to a second opinion and tried to have me framed for ‘threatening to kill’ Alun Davies, the manager of the Hergest Unit, after I had called Davies a fat idiot. The case subsequently fell apart and it was clear that the Angels and Top Doctors had perjured themselves but as ever there was no investigation into this. Neither has there yet been a resolution to a problem which I only uncovered last year – after that case collapsed, someone unlawfully altered the PNC to record a conviction of ‘violent disorder’ against my name and someone also forged a certificate of indictment stating that I had been convicted of ‘violent disorder’ (see post ‘Even More Confusion Regarding Those Legal Conundrums’). The former Chief Executive of the North West Wales NHS Trust Martin Jones somehow knew about all this when I didn’t. The North West Wales NHS Trust ran the Hergest Unit and employed both Tony Roberts and Alun Davies at the time, as well as the Angels who happily joined in with the perjury. I made a complaint to the GMC about Roberts but they took no action. Last year my lawyer forwarded me a copy of a document that had been found in the possession of the GMC – it was a forged letter, purporting to be from me, relating to my complaint about Roberts (see post ‘ The General Medical Council – And Yet Another Forged Document’).

My problems with Tony Roberts occurred in 2002 . When it was admitted that the suicide rate for women in Conwy was second only to the suicide rate for women in – Camden! We know that the problem in Conwy was Tony Roberts – Roberts was also a wider problem because somebody appointed this madman as clinical director of the Hergest Unit and then the fun really began.

But who or what was the problem in Camden? I don’t know much about Camden but I do know that although it contains an affluent area where Blair’s mates no doubt lived, one area – St Pancras – was the location of sex workers, including sex workers who were children in the care of the local authority. I say ‘was’ because I haven’t been there for years – I know that the railway station has been redeveloped and is now very grand – but when I lived in London in the late 80s/early 90s, I used to go through St Pancras and I saw those kids flogging their services. Many of them had very obvious serious mental health problems, as did a few other folk, including a man who seemed to be suffering from a serious psychotic condition who lived in that station and was sustained by the Mars Bars that the people who manned one of the stalls selling sweets gave him.

I was not the only person to notice what was going on in St Pancras Station. After I left London I watched a TV documentary about young homeless kids in London and it was revealed that many of them had left local authority ‘care’. At one point in the documentary, a group of young people were interviewed and angrily told the journo of the total disrespect with which they were treated by wider society, of the hassle that they received from the police and of the assaults that they received from thugs. One boy then yelled that everyone knew what was happening to them and that ‘the MP for [constituency bleeped out] is picking up young boys’.

It all happened on your patch Dobbo. Anything to declare whilst you tell us all how great the NHS is?

After a survey of his constituents in 2008 Frank Dobson was named as being one of the very worst MPs in terms of their responses to constituents’ correspondence. Out of 269 of constituents letters sent to Dobbo via WriteToThem.com, Dobbo had replied to just 69. Let me guess -if you were an Angel or Top Doctor who wrote to Dobbo about The Cuts, you’d get a reply by return of post. Concerned constituent asking Dobbo to help because of the terrible problems that you’re having with the mental health services or writing because you’re a resident who has discovered that the kids in the care of Camden Council are being abused or neglected? You’ll have been ignored.

Milburn was responsible for driving through PFI deals for hospitals. The PFI deals that are now costing the NHS a great deal of money, far more money than those bastard patients missing appointments or turning up at A&E making a nuisance of themselves because they are unwell, anxious and unable to get an appointment with their GP for three weeks.

Milburn obviously felt that he didn’t make much headway under Dobbo and it is said that Milburn drove through the desired NHS reforms later when he became Secretary of State for Health himself. Meanwhile, whilst Dobbo was Secretary of State for Health, before devolution made the NHS in Wales the responsibility of the National Assembly, the criminality and corruption in the NHS in north Wales continued unhindered. Whilst Dobbo the stooge sat there in office, all hell was unleashed where I lived because the Waterhouse Inquiry had begun and was taking evidence from the former kids in care who had been so seriously abused. The Hergest Unit very obviously started falling apart, the better staff left in droves, Dr Tony Francis had a nervous breakdown and took early retirement after publicly declaring that he loathed all of his colleagues, the consultants were all at each others throats anyway and the care of the patients – which was always very mediocre – basically stopped. The Hergest Unit had a day centre which was about the only part of the Unit which functioned properly and was led by a nurse who I think really did try her best to look after patients with serious long term illnesses against the backdrop of a paedophile gang and their protectors. The day centre was closed down and the nurse who ran it was redeployed as a travelling CBT therapist ‘in the community’. The nurse didn’t drive so spent nearly all of her time sitting on the bus travelling the long distances between the rural locations which she had to visit. Everyone could see that it was farcical, particularly as she was probably the most capable member of staff that the mental health service in Gwynedd had. She wasn’t nuts, she wasn’t a paedophile and she actually knew how to conduct CBT. So Alun Davies and Tony Roberts had her spending her days on a bus. Following the closure of the day centre, patients could be seen destitute around the local towns and a number of them died. The ones who died interestingly enough were those who could remember what went on in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh when Dafydd used to illegally bang up anyone who had complained about him or the paedophiles or who were the patients who had been the former residents of the children’s homes in north Wales. All care and support for them was withdrawn and the pleas of neighbours and other horrified onlookers were ignored. One patient who was left for dead was a close relative of a man whom Alan Milburn knows. She didn’t actually die – by some miracle – but she did become destitute. Her close relative who knows Milburn won’t have afforded her any protection – a family rift when they were young meant that he will not have felt any obligation to her and he’s a famous man in the public spotlight who would only feel embarrassment because of his seriously ill relative. But the patient concerned is someone who can remember the North Wales Hospital and what Dafydd did out there and is also someone who was sexually used by the staff herself. She’s ill but she’s not stupid, there’s no telling who she might name if someone looks after her and asks the right questions.

Another patient who became destitute although neighbours rang Gwynedd Social Services and the Top Doctors repeatedly begging for someone to take care of her as she visibly lost weight through severe malnourishment, lived in derelict buildings, ran out into the road in Bethesda and yelled abuse at the traffic etc used to entertain people who did talk to her by maintaining that she was a prostitute and a groupie. When she first told me all this, to my shame I presumed that it was just the ramblings of a very distressed person. Then I noticed that the rest of her observations were spot-on – and I learned that a paedophile ring had operated in the region for years, a ring which took kids in care and mental health patients to London, Brighton and Manchester and sold them for sex, including to well-known people. This woman’s particular claim to fame was that she had had sex with Mick Jagger. People would listen politely and she would simply repeat that honestly she had, when she was young, because she had been a groupie. She was the right vintage to have been a groupie in the 60s/70s, but I always presumed that she had probably had sex with some rather less high profile people but not actually Murdoch’s wife’s leftovers. Until the day that I saw a collection of photos of Jagger with some of his mates taken in the late 60s – and one of those in the photos was someone who’s network had definitely extended as far as the dispossessed of north Wales.

I also found out today that Jimmy Savile visited Bryn Estyn. I had heard rumours but I thought that they were no more than that. Apparently not – Savile was there and he whilst he was there he was entertained by watching Peter Howarth and others gang rape the boys in their care.

You don’t have to worry Dobbo/Milburn/Blair, nearly all those patients are now dead. They were systematically exterminated in full public view whilst you all spouted rubbish about ‘service user involvement’ and ‘rights and responsibilities’. Not forgetting ‘tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime’ of course.

As Minister of State under Dobbo, Milburn will have known what was going on in the NHS in north Wales, it did not pass unnoticed, there were letters to politicians from many people.

Milburn was moved from the post of Minister of State in the Dept of Health in Dec 1998 to the role of Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

By Dec 1998 the Waterhouse Inquiry had stopped hearing the witnesses evidence and had set about the process of discrediting them as much as possible in their Report which was subsequently published in Feb 2000. In Oct 1998 had Blair appointed Alun Michael as Secretary of State for Wales after Ron Davies’s moment of madness on Clapham Common, which resulted in Alun Michael subsequently becoming First Secretary (now known as First Minister) of the newly created National Assembly for Wales, an appointment that just about no-one supported but Blair. Alun Michael resigned as First Secretary and as Leader of Welsh Labour in Feb 2000. The month in which the Waterhouse Report was published. William Hague, who as Secretary of State for Wales under John Major had orchestrated the cover-up which was Waterhouse, by this time was leader of the Tory Party in Opposition – he’d been appointed to that role in June 1997, having done everyone a massive favour re Waterhouse.

The reason that Milburn was moved to the Treasury however was because Mandy had been forced to resign as Secretary of State for the DTI after the business of the huge undeclared loan from Paymaster General Geoffrey Robinson. Stephen Byers was appointed Secretary of State for DTI in Mandy’s place and Milburn replaced Byers as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Milburn was Chief Secretary to the Treasury under Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown.

In Oct 1999 – four months before the Waterhouse Report was published – Milburn replaced Dobbo as Secretary of State for Health. Whilst Secretary of State, Milburn battled with Gordon over NHS funding  and the establishment of NHS foundation hospitals. Gordon famously did release the purse strings for the NHS and it received a great deal of money, as did the Top Doctors personally. Concerns were raised within the Labour Party that foundation hospitals would lead to a two-tier NHS. No-one mentioned the possibility that patient harm and deaths would be concealed by Trusts in their efforts to achieve foundation status. Meanwhile at Mid-Staffs things were going dreadfully wrong – and everybody in the Dept of Health lied through their teeth, fiddled the stats and concealed thousands of deaths.

Milburn resigned as Secretary of State unexpectedly in June 2003 and no-one quite understood why, particularly as he had been identified for promotion. He trotted out the usual lame excuses of the exhaustion and stress with all the commuting between London and the north east and wanting to spend more time with his partner and two children. When Milburn resigned Peter Cordy, the Chief Exec of Macmillan Cancer Relief, said that Milburn had ‘played a pivotal role’ in developing and introducing the NHS cancer plan. UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis ‘praised Mr Milburn’s dedication’ regarding the ‘difficult job that he had to do in turning around our NHS after 20 years of neglect’. That’s the Dave Prentis who represented thousands of NHS workers, including those employed in the north Wales mental health services at the time who were neglecting and abusing their patients and committing perjury in attempts to frame them. A leading light in COHSE, one of the unions that eventually merged to form UNISON, was David Williams, a ‘nurse’ from the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, who had worked there whilst Gwynne the lobotomist was still incapacitating people for life if they dared to complain about the Top Doctors or paedophiles assaulting them (see post ‘A Very COHSE Relationship With Some Very Nasty People’).

Milburn made a brief return to Gov’t in 2004 when he was appointed Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster to enable him to lead the campaign for the 2005 General Election, but it got off to a bad start and Milburn stood back from the campaign.

In 2007 Milburn launched the 20:20 website with Charles Clarke. Clarke was a researcher for Kinnock and then became Chief of Staff of Kinnock’s office. Lady Margaret Jay, the daughter of former Labour PM Jim Callaghan Chaired the launch. That’s the Jim Callaghan who visited Glenys Kinnock’s parents’ at their house in Holyhead with Lord Cledwyn, who concealed the paedophile gang in north Wales (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’).

After resigning as Secretary of State to spend more time with his partner and children, Milburn remained a busy man. He took a £30k pa job as an advisor with Bridgepoint Capital, a venture capitalist company with investments in private medical companies. Bridgepoint was involved with a group of care homes which were named and shamed as neglecting their patients. I also remember seeing the name of Chris Patten in connection with Bridgepoint.

Whilst Secretary of State for Health, Milburn made strident attacks on the junk food industry and claimed that the biggest world health problem is chronic illness caused by junk food, including fizzy drinks. After he resigned he called on Ministers to ban snack vending machines from schools.

In May 2007 Milburn accepted a £27k pa post with PepsiCo to assist in building a healthier image for the company. Milburn sat on the nutritional advisory board which was set up by the UK arm of PepsiCo. Philip Gould, another good mate of Blair’s and a key figure in New Labour, sat on the board as well. PepsiCo stated that they hoped that Milburn’s Ministerial track record ‘would be of enormous value’. That’s why this December that huge red juggernaut going under the name of the Coca Cola Truck will be arriving at a town near you to flog sugary fizz with no nutritional value at all to kids gearing up for Christmas.

Milburn is Chair of Global Advisors for Mars Incorporated, is also on the Board of Bridgepoint’s ‘portfolio company’ Diaverum AB and is a Board member of Apos Therapy. Dear old Stuart Rose sits on Bridgepoint’s European Advisory Board, along with Milburn. Milburn is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Board at WellDoc and Vice-Chair, Lloyds Pharmacy Advisory Board.

In Jan 2015 the Guardian reported that Bridgepoint were the major shareholders in Care UK, which is involved in outsourcing NHS services.

Milburn is Chair of iwantgreatcare Ltd.

Milburn also works for PwC. He is the Chair of their Health Industries Oversight Board.

Milburn co-authored an opinion piece for the Financial Times with John Hutton, another Blair ally and a Cabinet Minister between 2005-09. Their article urged the current Labour leadership to embrace the records of the Gov’ts of which they were a part. Hutton is a consultant to Lockhead Martin, an advisor to the Bechtel Corporation and a non-executive Director of Circle Holdings plc. Circle was the firm which failed to deliver and actually pulled out after receiving a contract to manage Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

Milburn was a member of Ed Miliband’s ‘top team’, along with Mandy and Alistair Campbell.

Milburn became Chancellor of Lancaster University in 2014 and the University’s website states that Milburn is involved in charitable projects as diverse as working with Blair in Africa to acting as a Trustee for Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

In Nov 2017 the Telegraph reported that A.M. Strategy, a private company set up by Milburn after leaving Gov’t, had made more than £500k in the past year and had accumulated over £1 million in profits since its establishment. Milburn directs this company with his long-term girlfriend Ruth Briel, the person whom he resigned from Gov’t to spend more time with.

In much the same way that Milburn didn’t slow down at all after his resignation from Gov’t, I’m not sure that Ruth has much spare time herself to spend with Milburn. As well as being a Director of A.M. Strategy, Ruth is Dr Ruth Briel, a Top Doctor – an NHS consultant psychiatrist and clinical director at the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. She is a member of the Academic Health Sciences Network for the North East and North Cumbria as well as Chief Operating Officer for the NHS Leadership Academy.

Briel is involved with NHS Improvement who have been completely unable to improve the NHS at all. She sits on the Senior Advisory Group ‘to advise and enable the creation of an improvement movement across the NHS in England’. Many Board members of NHS Improvement are known to this blog and include: Chris Hopson of NHS Providers; Dr Matthew Patrick of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust; Jim Mackey of NHS Improvement; Prof Chris Ham of the Kings Fund; Roy Lilley of the Academy of Fab NHS Stuff; Will Warburton of The Health Foundation; Prof Maxine Power of Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust; Nigel Edwards of the Nuffield Trust; Lord Ara Darzi; Prof Sir John Burn of Newcastle University.

John Burn is Professor of Clinical Genetics as Newcastle University. At least some of his research is or has been funded by Cancer Research UK, the leading lights of which are those people whom I witnessed behaving so badly in 1987 (see post ‘A cause Close To Our Hearts’). Burn studied at Newcastle Medical School, 1976-80 and led the regional NHS Genetics Society for 20 years. He helped to create the Centre for Life in Newcastle which houses the regions Fertility and Genetics Services. Burn launched ID testing company Northgene Ltd in 1995; Chairs DNA device company QuantuMDx; is a non-executive Director of NHS England; Executive Chair of Global Varione Ltd. He was genetics lead for the UK NIHR (National Institute of Health Research); the previous lead clinician for UK NHS (North East); was Director of the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University (2005-10); President of the European Society for Human Genetics (2007).

Presumably Professor Sir John Burn is well-acquainted with Milburn, Ruth and their mates.

Just a couple of days ago it was announced that Ian Dalton CBE is to be the new Chief Exec of NHS Improvement. Dalton is currently the CEO of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, a collection of teaching hospitals, some of which have been involved in research fraud and very questionable practices for decades (see posts ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’ and ‘I Don’t Believe It!’). He was President, Global Gov’t and Health, BT Global Services, April 2014-Sept 2016; President, Global Heath, BT Global Services, May 2013-April 2014; Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive, NHS England, 2012-13; Chief Executive, NHS North of England, 2011-12; MD, Provider Development, UK Dept of Health, 2010-12; Chief Executive, NHS North East, 2007-11; National Director, NHS Flu Resilience, UK Dept of Health, May 2009-10; Chief Exec, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, 2005-07; Chief Exec, North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust, 2003-05.

So there we are – Dalton has presided over a long and glorious history of NHS failure, catastrophe and cover-up in regions of the country where child abuse connected to organised crime has caused havoc but luckily Ian Dalton was at the heart of the network of Blair and his mates, so he just carried on climbing upwards.

Ruth Briel is also listed as a Director of North East Transformation System Ltd and her address was given as Gateshead Health Trust HQ.

Briel has had a very long association with the NHS in the north east, particularly the mental health services. She qualified from Newcastle University Medical School in 1988. In the aftermath of the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal, just as Butler-Sloss’s Inquiry into it all was underway. There is no way that Ruth and her peers will not have been discussing that and indeed hearing some of what really went on. It is highly likely that Briel personally knows some of those who were key players in that scandal – a scandal which resulted in hundreds of children being removed from the care of their parents, most of whom Butler-Sloss quietly later admitted had not been abused. More recently authorities in Cleveland admitted that ‘mistakes were made’. The biggest mistake was the complete concealment by all agencies of the en masse abuse of children in care by a series of paedophile gangs with links to each other across the UK which operated through the social services.

The information provided in this blog post does of course back up the information in my post ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection’.

So those are some of the people who led the NHS during those years following the Waterhouse Inquiry whilst the surviving witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were systematically exterminated. It’s a rather different story to the one that launched Milburn’s political career – the story of the son of a single mother who worked as an NHS secretary and who was brought up on a council estate and never recovered from the Council painting his front door the same colour as everyone else’s on the estate. I know that was a bit of a liberty Alan, but it couldn’t have been that traumatic – it’s not as if you were murdered when you were fire-bombed because you had information about politicians molesting children.

News From Sicily

An item on BBC News Wales yesterday reported that some members of the Welsh Gov’t are demanding that the smacking of children should be outlawed in Wales. One person articulating this view was Julie Morgan AM, a former social worker – who remained silent as did her colleagues whilst so many youngsters in their care were passed around a paedophile ring and trafficked to London and Brighton to provide sexual services for people in Westminster. Julie’s husband the late Rhodri, the former First Minister, remained remarkably silent about this problem as well, but that might have been because he kept appointing other people who had kept schtum about it to positions as Ministers for Health and Social Care – or Ministers for Children and Young People.  Another AM who wants to outlaw smacking is Huw Irranca-Davies.

Huw Irranca-Davies is the Labour AM for Ogmore. Huw caused a bit of a sensation because he had previously been the Labour MP for Ogmore and resigned his seat in Westminster because he wanted a seat in the National Assembly. He announced his desire to transition from Westminster to Cardiff Bay in October 2015, so it was most convenient that the Assembly seat for Ogmore – a safe Labour seat – was going begging within weeks, after the previous incumbent Janice Gregory stood down. Huw had been the MP for Ogmore since 2002 – he was selected for the safe Labour seat after the sitting MP Sir Ray Powell died unexpectedly. Sir Ray Powell was Janice Gregory’s dad! After her father died, Janice announced immediately that she would not be entering the selection to succeed her father’s seat – so that left the field open for Huw, who had been looking for a Westminster seat since 2001.

Huw was born in Gowerton in Swansea. As a boy he campaigned for his uncle, Ifor Davies, who was the ‘highly respected MP’ (or so Huw’s wiki entry tells us) for Gower, 1959-82. Uncle Ifor was also born in Gowerton, Swansea. Ifor had studied at Ruskin College and was a Councillor on Glamorgan County Council, 1958-61 and acted as election agent for his predecessor MP for Gower, David Grenfell.

Ifor was a member of Harold Wilson’s Gov’t – he was Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, 1964-66 and a Minister at the Welsh Office. Huw’s wiki entry tells us that at the Welsh Office, Ifor was ‘Deputy’ to Secretary of State for Wales Lord Cledwyn – the paedophiles’ friend, one of those who concealed the most appalling wrongdoing in north Wales whilst he was in the Welsh Office. Lord Cledwyn was a friend of the First Family of Troughing, the Kinnocks (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’). Yet Ifor’s own wiki entry explains that he was Minister of State at the Welsh Office 1966-69. Lord Cledwyn was Secretary of State for Wales only until 1968 – George Thomas aka Lord Tonypandy then took over as Secretary of State for Wales until 1970. Furthermore George Thomas himself was Minister of State at the Welsh Office, April 1966-Jan 1967. So Huw’s Uncle Ifor worked alongside George Thomas as Minister of State and, after Cledwyn Hughes had moved on, then worked as Minister of State in the Welsh Office under George Thomas. The George Thomas that everyone would rather forget existed, the George Thomas who has been the subject of an historical investigation into child sexual abuse by the South Wales Police – as was George’s mate Leo Abse. The George Thomas who was also party to the shabby deal following the Aberfan disaster, which resulted in the Aberfan Disaster Fund being raided to pay for the removal of the coal tips because the National Coal Board was finding it a bit pricey. Whilst Uncle Ifor worked in the Welsh Office, the Permanent Secretary there was Sir Goronwy Daniel, who later became Principal of Aberystwyth University. Goronwy was someone else who pushed the boat out on many occasions to help the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’).

So what else did the highly respected Uncle Ifor get up to? Well he campaigned for a ‘No’ vote in the 1978 referendum as to whether a National Assembly for Wales should be established. Ifor was a member of the Gang of Six who led the No campaign – Neil Kinnock, Leo Abse, Donald Anderson, Alfred Evans and Ioan Evans.

Readers of this blog will be familiar with Neil Kinnock and Leo Abse – they’ve cropped up a great deal, just use the search facility – so I’ll concentrate on providing a bit of info about the other members of the Gang of Six.

Donald Anderson is now Lord Donald Anderson. He was Labour MP for Monmouth, 1966-70 and then for Swansea East, 1974-05.

Anderson went to Swansea Grammar School (now known as Bishop Gore School) – the institution which produced a whole collection of corrupt Top Doctors and their associates who concealed research fraud, criminal misconduct and the abuse of patients and children. For details of a few of them see posts ‘A Bit More Paleontology’ and ‘I Don’t Believe It’. After mixing with the future toxins in the NHS, Anderson went to what is now Swansea University, which has been host to so many members of Rhodri Morgan’s family and their friends.

Between 1970-74, Donald Anderson lived in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and sat as a Councillor ‘in a neighbouring borough’. The fact that a veil has been drawn over which borough this was suggests to me that something rather unedifying may have taken place which Donald would rather keep quiet, in the same way that Huw Irranca-Davies decided not to advertise the connections that Uncle Ifor had to George Thomas.

Donald Anderson was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of West Glamorgan in 2006. He became Lord Donald in Blair’s dissolution honours in 2005.

The man who succeeded Donald Anderson as MP for Monmouth in 1970 was the Conservative Sir John Stradling Thomas, who died in 1991. Sir John held a number of Ministerial positions under Heath and Thatcher. Readers may recognise his name. Richard Card who regularly leaves comments on my blog has mentioned Sir John a number of times. Richard maintains that Sir John was found dead at home in questionable circumstances just before it was believed that he was about to present evidence concerning the Westminster Paedophile Ring and demand an inquiry. Sir John was found dead in his flat in Dolphin Square – the Westminster Paedophile Ring were alleged to have abused their victims at flats in Dolphin Square and children in care from north Wales were taken there. In my post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’ I discussed Sir William Shelton’s silence regarding child abuse and the criminal activities of people at St George’s Hospital Medical School. I mentioned that after Shelton and Airey Neave had successfully installed Thatcher as leader of the Tory Party, the victory party – which was attended by Thatcher and Denis – was held at Shelton’s ‘Pimlico home’. Dolphin Square is in Pimlico.

Alfred Evans was Labour MP for Caerphilly, 1968-79. He was a graduate of University College Cardiff, went into teaching and became the headmaster of a number of boys secondary schools before entering Parliament. Evans’s seat was succeeded by Ednyfed Hudson Davies, who had previously been Labour MP for Conwy, 1966-70, in the heart of the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’).

Before Alfred Evans occupied the seat for Caerphilly himself, he had campaigned for his predecessor, Ness Edwards. Edwards was an associate of Nye Bevan and was a very radical man – but the next generation of his family were rather different.

Ness Edwards had a daughter Llinos, who called herself Llin. She is now a Baroness. Llin Golding was MP for Newcastle-Under-Lyme, 1986-01. Llin worked as a radiographer in the NHS and is now Patron of the Society of Radiographers. Llin is also a Board member of the Countryside Alliance. It was Llin Golding who enabled the Fathers For Justice protesters who covered Blair in purple flour in the Commons in May 2004 to gain entry to the House – she had vouched for them, although she later maintained that she didn’t know what they were going to do.

I am completely sympathetic to people who want to throw purple flour over Blair and to those who help them achieve their aim, but I am sorry that Llin didn’t facilitate a much more powerful protest about something that she definitely will have known about. Newcastle-Under-Lyme is in north Staffordshire. Throughout the years that Llin was MP there, not only were the kids in care being abused by the social worker Tony Latham and his mates and people raising concerns about the abuse were being framed and imprisoned themselves (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I’), but just down the road there was that notorious hospital which was abusing and killing patients. No-one in authority said a word and patients who dared complain were subjected to hate campaigns from NHS staff. Successive Secretaries of State had known that things were terribly wrong in the NHS in Staffordshire at least since the early 1990s and Llin will have known it as well. Did she perhaps work in the NHS in Staffordshire? Or have friends who did?

Llin was given a life peerage in 2001. Just after the Waterhouse Report had slammed the lid shut on the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal and just before the general public got to hear the extent of the horror that was Mid-Staffs.

So what prompted Llin the NHS radiographer from south Wales to stand for election later in life in Newcastle-Under-Lyme? It was because her husband gave his job up. Llin’s husband, John Golding, had been the Labour MP for Newcastle-Under Lyme since 1969 and Llin took over the seat from him! John Golding stood down from the Commons to take up the position of General Secretary of the National Communications Union.

John Golding went to Chester City Grammar School, then to Keele University and then to the LSE. Very soon after being elected to Parliament he became PPS to Eric Varley, who was Wilson’s Minister of Technology in the latter half of the 1970s. When Gerald Kaufman who had been the Labour MP for Manchester Gorton for decades died recently, it was discovered that in his will he had left absolutely everything – and he was a wealthy man – to his friend Eric Varley. Varley had died several years previously but Kaufman had not re-written his will. Kaufman was married with children, but he wasn’t planning to leave anyone but Varley a penny. Which suggests that Kaufman and Varley’s relationship was rather closer than anyone had ever realised. For more details on Eric Varley and his big buddy Gerald Kaufman see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’. Kaufman wielded a lot of influence in the Labour Party for many years. Kaufman, like Golding, was on the right of the Party.

Golding was a key figure in opposing Militant and had a loathing of those on the left of the Labour Party. He was a Whip in Wilson’s Gov’t and was known to be highly effective in achieving his aims – he successfully delayed Thatcher from privatising BT with a record-breaking filibuster. A Guardian article written about him in 1999 after his death describes him as ‘one of the best right fixers ever’, indeed a ‘master fixer’. The Guardian article is full of interesting anecdotes. It tells us that Robert Kilroy-Silk used to beat a path to Golding’s door to obtain advice from him as to how to deal with folk who he felt were hampering him.

Kilroy -Silk was a duplicitous git, a lot of people did not like him. He was a lecturer at Liverpool University who started his political career in the Labour Party, but fell out with people at a rate which would have made Dr David Owen proud and ended up – but only for a short time – in UKIP. He then fell out with them and like Dr Death started his own minority party but that died a death. Kilroy embarked on a successful media career, wrote ill thought out bigoted articles for the tabloids and also presented a daytime discussion TV programme in the 1990s. I remember it well because Dr Dafydd Alun Jones appeared on there, constructed as an ‘expert’. At the time, Dafydd was facilitating the paedophile ring, selling drugs to addicts and then providing helpful Court reports when they ended up in trouble with the law. Complaints about Dafydd were coming in thick and fast and he was such an embarrassment that even Gwynedd Health Authority were trying to force him into retirement (see post ‘The Evolution Of A Drugs Baron?’). But there he was on Kilroy, with Kilroy deferring to him and ordering members of the audience to listen to his wisdom.  Kilroy’s TV programme used to be recorded in the north of England, I think in Liverpool, but Kilroy lived in a mansion in Buckinghamshire. A friend of mine who worked in TV at the time told me that not only did Kilroy insist on the BBC providing a plane for him to jet between his palace and the studio in Liverpool on recording days, but on one occasion a couple of BBC staff hitched a lift on Kilroy’s plane back down south after the show and Kilroy went apeshit about them sharing the plane with him.

The Guardian article also revealed that after the 1983 General Election when Gerald Kaufperson had described Michael Foot’s election manifesto as ‘the longest suicide note in history’, one of Golding’s fan club asked him why he hadn’t ensured that the manifesto was rewritten. It seems that Golding preferred to see his opponents screw up big time and fall flat on their faces although he knew that it would cost Labour the election.

Golding was a member of the Council of the TUC but he only remained as General Secretary for the National Communications Union until 1988. After that he continued to be fully politically active supporting his wife in her job as an MP, but also as a Councillor on the Newcastle-Under-Lyme Borough Council, which was Labour.

The fact that Golding is credited with helping ‘modernise’ the Labour Party – which was Kinnock’s project – and fought Militant, suggests that he was close to Kinnock. Effective Whips and ‘fixers’ in politics always achieve their successes by blackmailing or bribing their opponents.

So what did John Golding have over everyone? Apart from the knowledge that the NHS in Staffordshire was killing people.

What with John Golding, Kilroy, Kinnock et al all really hating Militant, I suspect that they noticed something else very worrying as well that led to a by-election in Bootle in 1990. In spring 1990 Bootle elected as their Labour MP Michael Carr. Michael Carr had been a dockworker who joined the Labour Party in 1976 and was on the North West Executive of the Party from 1980. From 1984 Carr was a full time union officer for the TGWU and he became Secretary of the Liverpool Walton Constituency Labour Party in 1987. Michael Carr was one of the Labour Party members who had fought very hard against Militant in Liverpool. He was elected for Bootle in the summer of 1990. Whilst in the Commons on July 17 1990, Tory MP and the Times’s medical journalist Dr Thomas Stuttaford noticed that Carr had an ‘extreme pallor’. On 20 July 1990 Michael attended a meeting of the Liverpool Walton Constituency Labour Party in his capacity as General Secretary. The meeting was heated because Militant were stating that they’d be gearing up for more action in Liverpool, following the selection of Peter Kilfoyle as a Labour candidate. Carr felt pains in his chest and went outside for fresh air and had to sit down. He broke out into a cold sweat, had a sensation of pins and needles and then his hands went numb. An ambulance was called and he was taken to Walton Hospital, arriving at 9-54 pm. He was told at the hospital that he was hyperventilating and at 10-25 pm was discharged with a letter telling him to see his doctor. He was sent home in a taxi. Fifteen minutes after arriving home he was taken ill and another ambulance was called. He had a heart attack, fell into a coma and efforts to revive him by the staff of the A&E Dept of Walton Hospital  proved unsuccessful. Michael Carr was pronounced dead at 11-50 pm.

Michael had been the MP for Bootle for 57 days.

Michael Carr’s inquest was opened on 26 Feb 1991. The Merseyside coroner Roy Barter postponed the inquest to consider criminal charges against some of the health care staff. A file was sent to the DPP but no charges were brought. The DPP at the time was Sir Allan Green. Allan Green was appointed DPP in 1987 but resigned after he was caught kerb-crawling in King’s Cross in Oct 1991. At least it was presumed that he was kerb-crawling – Sir Allan stated that he had stopped to talk to some prostitutes, but he didn’t explain what he was talking to them about. Two years later Sir Allan’s estranged wife was found dead. The explanation was suicide, but there were a number of things that didn’t quite add up. Between 2000-04 Green represented a number of soldiers at the Inquiry into the Bloody Sunday Massacre of 1972, for which he was paid £1.5 million. Green worked as a barrister until he retired in 2013. Sir Allan was DPP throughout the years that Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I were screaming as loudly as we could that there was serious criminal activity in the welfare agencies in north Wales. He was DPP whilst a number of kids in care were found dead, whilst mental health patients were detained illegally and framed for criminal offences and whilst no charges were ever brought against people employed in the social services and mental health services, although there was evidence of serious wrongdoing. I  don’t suppose Sir Allen wants to tell us what was happening when he was DPP. His wife might have been able to provide some useful info about Sir Allan and his habits, but sadly she is dead, having ‘committed suicide’ in the middle of the police investigations into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. For more details about Sir Allan and the circumstances of his wife’s death, see post ‘A Future Leader Of The Labour Party’.

After Sir Allan failed to bring charges against anyone in the wake of Michael Carr’s death, his inquest resumed on 9 April 1992. The coroner then postponed it after referring three points of law to the High Court. Carr’s family sought a judicial review of that decision, which was held on 28 May 1993. Once more a file was sent to the DPP, but the DPP considered that there was insufficient evidence to bring any charges. The DPP at the time was Dame Barbara Mills. Barbara Mills was married to John Mills. John Mills is a major donor to the Labour Party and was a Councillor on Camden Council for most of the time between 1971-06. John Mills was also the Deputy Chair of the London Docklands Corporation. John Mills’s brother David is married to Tessa Jowell. Barbara been a legal assessor for the GMC and was Director of the Serious Fraud Office, 1990-92. Whilst Barbara was Director of the SFO, the SFO were investigating allegations of bribery on the part of Silvio Berlusconi. David Mills was later charged with receiving bribes from Berlusconi. Like Sir Allen, Barbara was DPP during a period of time when a lot of people in the health and care sector in north Wales got away with an awful lot and whilst witnesses to and victims of the child abuse in the region continued to turn up dead. Barbara Mills was a non-executive Director of the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, 2000-07. Dame Barbara had many high points during her glorious career, the details of which can be read in my post ‘A Future Leader Of The Labour Party’.

The judicial review relating to Michael Carr’s inquest nullified the findings of the first inquest and a new inquest was ordered under a new coroner. The second inquest opened on 20 Feb 1995. On the 23 Feb 1995 a verdict of death by natural causes was returned.

Some very unfortunate deaths continued to occur in the NHS facilities of Merseyside. My post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University’ explains how two people known to me from Gwynedd were both diagnosed with brain tumours and referred to the neurological centre at Walton for treatment within months of each other. One of these people was a former social worker from north Wales who was married to another former social worker. They both fall very firmly into the category of paedophiles’ friends. The other person was married to someone who was known to dearly want to see the back of the paedophiles’ friends and whose friend had dared spill the pints of the paedophiles’ friends on a number of occasions. The patient who was a paedophiles’ friend was successfully operated upon at Walton, made a full recovery and is now retired, enjoying themselves with the rest of the paedophiles’ friends.  The person who was married to the challenger of the paedophiles’ friends was told by Walton that their tumour was inoperable and palliative care was the only option. They died within months.

A by-election took place in Bootle after Michael’s death and Joe Benton was elected as Labour MP for the constituency. Benton had put himself forward as a candidate previously, but Carr had won the selection.

Joe Benton was Labour MP for Bootle until 2015. He was a JP on the Bootle Bench from 1969. Benton became a Councillor on Bootle County Borough Council in 1970 and was a Councillor for Sefton Borough Council after local gov’t reform in 1973 until he was elected in 1990, becoming leader in 1985. After Benton became an MP John Smith appointed him an Opposition Whip in 1994. Well there’s the ultimate way of persuading the MPs to vote in the right way – do what you’re told or the next time you visit an NHS hospital you’ll leave in a coffin.

Joe Benton was a devout Catholic who voted to restrict abortion, to oppose embryo research and euthanasia and who opposed equalising the age of consent between heterosexuals and homosexuals. He signed a petition supporting the definition of marriage as a voluntary union for life between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. This was the last straw for Joe’s local constituency Party. They could cope with his opponent being murdered by the Top Doctors and Angels and two DPPs concealing it all, but his old fashioned views on marriage were just too much and Benton was deselected. Benton’s mate and fellow Councillor Peter Dowd was elected and he’s the present day MP for Bootle.

In June 2014 Pope Francis conferred upon Benton the Knighthood of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St Gregory the Great for his contribution to civic life. The Roman Catholic Church can be very understanding – many years ago one of the Popes met a similar fate to William Carr and only lasted a matter of a few weeks as Pope before he was found dead.

The final member of the Gang of Six who led the NO to devolution campaign in Wales that I mentioned was Ioan Evans. He was the Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, 1964-70 and then for Aberdare, from 1974 until his death in 1984.

Ioan Evans was another person who was a graduate of the University College of Wales Swansea. He had been the Secretary of the Birkenhead Co-operative Party, 1950-53; the Secretary of the Birmingham Co-operative Party, 1953-64; he also sat on the West Bromwich Education Committee and was the agent for Birmingham Small Heath in the 1955 and 59 elections. Evans was a JP in Birmingham, 1960-70 and a JP in Middlesex from 1970. So Ioan got around all over the place. He’ll have known about the corruption in the Birmingham NHS and in the West Midlands Police and about the abuse of children in care in Birmingham as well as how from the late 60s onwards some of those children were being sent into the arms of the paedophile gang in north Wales on ‘placements’.

Ioan Evans was PPS To John Morris, the Secretary of State for Wales 1974-79. John Morris – now Lord Aberavon – was certainly a good friend to the paedophile ring. He led the Welsh Office whilst it covered up the activities of Dafydd and Gwynne the lobotomist as they lobotomised, shocked and drugged the victims of the paedophile gang in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and whilst the Welsh Office failed to even inspect children’s homes in north Wales which were managed and staffed by the paedophile gang. Morris was yet another law graduate from Aberystwyth University who proved so helpful to the paedophile gang. Blair appointed him Attorney General between 1997-99 – whilst the Waterhouse Inquiry took evidence. Morris held Ministerial office under Wilson, Callaghan and Blair, so a lot of people obviously found him very useful. He stood down from the Commons in 2001, once the cover-up that was the Waterhouse Report had been published and that box had been ticked. Then he picked up his peerage.

When John Morris stood down as MP for Aberavon, Hywel Francis, another member of the Kinnock-Rhodri Morgan network succeeded him. When Hywel Francis stood down, Stephen Kinnock succeeded him!

Ioan Evans however didn’t last long as John Morris’s PPS, he resigned in 1974. Not because Morris and the Welsh Office were concealing serious criminal activity, but because he disagreed with the Labour Party line over devolution – which at that time was to support it.

Towards the end of his incumbency, Ioan’s Aberdare constituency was renamed as Cynon Valley. Although the constituency changed its name, its boundaries remained pretty much the same. Ann Clwyd was the MP who succeeded Ioan. Ann Clwyd is one politician who did take an interest in the complaints of the kids in care from north Wales who had been abused. In fact Ann Clwyd conducted some interviews with some of the former residents of the north Wales children’s homes who claimed to have been abused – five of them were living in her constituency. So Ioan Evans didn’t notice them then.

It is interesting to note how many descendants of the friends and relatives of those who vigorously opposed the creation of the National Assembly are now participating in the most serious cronyism in order to bag themselves a seat in it – such as Huw Irranca-Davies.

Huw’s Uncle Ifor was an MP sponsored by APEX. APEX was the union which was at the centre of the notorious Grunwick dispute, 1976-78. The Grunwick dispute began over the terrible working conditions, treatment and pay of the employees of Grunwick, who were mostly East African Asians, women and first generation immigrants. The dispute began by the truly appalling treatment of six workers who challenged their employers about working conditions, were sacked for doing so and then set up a tiny picket. CAB advised them to seek union representation and the TUC recommended APEX – a very odd and not very sensible recommendation, APEX being a union representing mostly professional and office workers who were not particularly au fait with the sort of problems that the Grunwick workers were encountering. APEX was also possibly the most right wing union there was. Shirley Williams was an APEX sponsored MP and proudly boasted that it was ‘the most moderate and anti-communist’ union. The Grunwick workers followed the advice that they had been given and joined APEX. Despite APEX’s right-leaning bent, support for the Grunwick workers was mobilised and became substantial. One TGWU activist involved with drumming up support was Jack Dromey aka Mr Harriet Harman. The picket lines became very violent indeed, but it was police violence rather than violence from the pickets. The infamous Metropolitan Police Special Patrol Group were employed to police the dispute, which won’t have been a coincidence because the SPG really enjoyed violently assaulting ethnic minorities. The SPG managed to murder someone in 1979, Blair Peach, a New Zealand teacher who was on an anti-NF march. A member of the SPG clobbered him over the head with a truncheon and killed him, but the culprit was never identified – the SPG routinely covered their faces and removed their numbers from their uniforms -and no-one was ever held to account. Blair Peach wasn’t even black either.

The Grunwick dispute withered away when James Callaghan’s Gov’t agreed to commission an Inquiry by Lord Scarman. The boss of Grunwick George Ward belligerently stated that he didn’t care what Scarman’s Inquiry recommended, he would only obey orders from the Courts. The Grunwick workers had been treated appallingly, had lost their jobs and undoubtedly had a very genuine case. It was observed at the time that white British workers would never have been expected to work in the conditions in which the Grunwick women did. However at the mention of an Inquiry by Lord Scarman, the General Secretary of APEX – Roy Grantham – called off the pickets, saying that APEX would wait for Scarman’s recommendations and abide by them. Scarman recommended that there should be union recognition at Grunwick and that the sacked workers should be reinstated. George Ward – who was backed by the Freedom Association and the Conservative Party – told Scarman to take a running jump. There would be no union recognition and the sacked workers would not be reinstated. An appeal to the Lords backed up George Ward. In Nov 1977 one of the Grunwick workers went on hunger strike outside the TUC HQ. APEX suspended her union membership as a result. The others unions sold the Grunwick workers down the river as well. Grunwick is now acknowledged as having been the point at which unions lost their power. A pity that Uncle Ifor’s mates – as well as Jack Dromey and Len Murray, the General Secretary of the TUC – weren’t prepared to fight for some female immigrants who were being exploited in a way which would never have been tolerated if it had been happening to white, British born, male workers. Shirl lost her seat in 1979, but later joined Dr Death in the SDP and ended up in the Lords anyway.

Huw’s Uncle Ifor was also Chair of the Council at Swansea University.

Now that I’ve supplied a bit of background info on Huw’s highly respected Uncle Ifor and his mates, I’ll return to Huw’s entry into politics.

After graduation, Huw worked in local authorities and leisure management. Huw also worked for the private sector and taught at Swansea University. Whether Uncle Ifor was on the interview panel for that Swansea appointment I do not know.

Huw started sniffing around for a Westminster seat at about the time of the publication of the Waterhouse Report. He stood as the Labour candidate for Brecon and Radnor in 2001 but came behind both the Lib Dems and the Tories. Then in 2002, after the death of Sir Ray Powell, Huw was elected as MP for Ogmore.

So who was Sir Ray Powell, Janice Gregory’s dad?

Ray Powell was elected in 1979 and unlike Uncle Ifor and co was pro-devolution. Ray attacked Neil Kinnock and Leo Abse for their ‘rabble rousing egotistical behaviour’. However Ray changed his mind about devolution in the 90s – because he really hated Ron Davies and Ron Davies was the main standard bearer for devolution.  Ron Davies really hated Powell in return – Ron had unsuccessfully tried to have Powell removed from the Whip’s office. Ray Powell must have had the last laugh, because although Ron Davies won the devolution argument, in 1998 just before he was about to be officially appointed First Minister, Ron was caught up in an intriguing incident on Clapham Common as described in my post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’. The official story line – as formulated by Alastair Campbell – was that Ron had a ‘moment of madness’ and was mugged whilst doing nothing in particular on Clapham Common. Blair’s autobiography ‘A Journey’ effectively admits that this was a complete cock and bull story. Blair doesn’t admit what really did happen involving Ron Davies on Clapham Common, but the facts are that Ron Davies met a black gay prostitute going under the name of Boogie who somehow made off with Ron’s car, wallet, House of Commons pass and I think some or most of his clothes, after holding Ron up at knifepoint. Ron himself has never been able to explain what went on. Blair simply states in his book that things got very difficult because shortly after Boogie left Ron high and dry, Nick Brown the Agriculture Minister was also caught up in a scandal involving a rent boy, but Alastair came to the rescue once more and the story was repackaged as a good news story about Nick Brown coming out as gay.

Nick Brown has been the MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne East since 1983. He has served three terms as a Labour Chief Whip, 1997-98, 2008-10 and 2016-the present. Nick Brown originally moved to Newcastle  in 1978 when he took up the post of legal advisor to the Northern Region of the GMBATV (now the GMB). The General Secretary of the GMBATV at the time was David Basnett, who in 1978 was also President of the TUC. That union has a very high number of members who work in social care, the NHS, the ambulance service and local authorities. David Basnett took early retirement in 1986. Just at the time when Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I began writing to the authorities regarding the serious criminal activities in north Wales. I have previously speculated that the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal which occurred in the first half of 1987 served as a useful distraction with regard to what was happening in north Wales and it also detracted from the fact that children were being abused by people paid to care for them. David Basnett was given a peerage in 1987. My post ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection?’ details links between people working in mental health in north Wales and people employed in medicine and mental health in Newcastle.

Ray Powell seems to have been a very robust man who didn’t mince his words. He called Nicholas Edwardes aka Lord Crickhowell – the man who planned and then became very rich as a result of the scam that was the development of Cardiff Bay (see post ‘Corruption Bay Special’) – ‘Nick the Ripper, the industrial rapist of Wales’. He was even ruder about Thatcher during the Falklands conflict and told her that she had blood on her hands. He refused to share a platform with Jin Callaghan on the grounds that he’d ‘ratted on Michael Foot’ in 1983 by opposing unilateralism. Ray Powell vigorously opposed Sunday trading, but freely admitted that wasn’t because of religious objections, it was because he was sponsored by the shop workers’ union USDAW and they told him to oppose it.

Ray was a Labour Whip between 1983-95 and one of his achievements was to refuse Ken Livingstone a desk for more than a year after Ken arrived in the Commons in 1987. Although Ray Powell had a reputation as an effective and formidable Whip himself, he later denounced the Whips office as ‘the Gestapo’ after he ended up on a hit list for refusing to vote to lower the age of consent for homosexual activities. Ray might have held out against that, but he never mentioned the matter of the abuse of children in care in Wales at all – although he was in the Commons throughout the years of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal, the police investigations, the Jillings Inquiry, the Waterhouse Inquiry, the deaths of witnesses…Ray was also the honorary Secretary of the Welsh Parliamentary Labour Party, 1982-92.

One cause that Ray Powell did take up was that of grandparents’ rights. He became interested in this after he was approached by two constituents who had brought up their granddaughter whose parents were both drug addicts and had been unable to look after her. The little girl had lived with her grandparents for years and didn’t know her birth parents – Powell was horrified to learn that the social services were nonetheless able to remove her from her grandparents’ care and give her to her birth parents. Obviously Powell had no such concerns about social workers removing children from their birth parents and handing them over to a gang of paedophiles who then trafficked them to London to provide sexual services for some of Powell’s colleagues.

Ray Powell could make headway in the most unlikeliest of circumstances. In 1983 the Tory Gov’ts cap on spending resulted in problems with the building of phase two of the hospital in Bridgend in Powell’s constituency. Ray Powell took up the case with the paedophiles’ friend Wyn Roberts at the Welsh Office. Wyn Roberts was obliged to make special arrangements for the funding of the hospital and Ray was delighted to be able to tell his constituents that they would be getting the first rate hospital that they deserved. But Wyn Roberts found himself doing a few other remarkable things to help Welsh causes after he or his colleagues in the Welsh Office had received a visit from someone in a position to remind them that a vicious paedophile gang was operating in north Wales and that the Welsh Office knew all about it (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’).

Ray Powell was big mates with another south Wales MP, Llew Smith. Smith was MP for Blaenau Gwent, 1992-05 – he inherited the seat from Michael Foot. Llew was also elected as the member of the European Parliament for South Wales East in 1984. He stood down in 1994 – and made way for one Glenys Kinnock!

On the eve of the 1997 General Election Ray Powell told an interesting tale about two of his Blairite colleagues. He alleged that Mandelson and Ron Davies offered him a peerage if he gave up his sat in the Commons for Alan Howarth, the Conservative who had crossed the floor to join the Labour Party.

Howarth had an interesting background for a defector to the Labour Party. He had worked in the Conservative Party Chairman’s Office in Conservative Central Office under Willie Whitelaw – the Willie who had his arm twisted by the paedophiles’ friends in order to get him to agree to establish a Welsh language TV channel (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’).

Howarth had been Director of the Conservative Research Department – when Matthew Parris worked there, Parris claimed that Dept employed a senior member of staff who went out and around London on buses in search of young men. The Dept also arranged summer holidays on the continent for staff at a destination known as the Villa of Shame, in which ‘willing boys’ were supplied.

Alan Howarth had been the Conservative Party Vice-Chairman and had also founded the Thatcherite No Turning Back Group.

He defected to the Labour Party in 1995. The year that Sir Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s aide and he Conservative Deputy Party Chairman – who was known to be abusing boys in care in north Wales – was found dead in his house having ‘fallen down the stairs’. The year in which the Jillings investigation was nearing completion – which resulted in the report that was famously pulped and released to no-one, on the advice of the County Council’s insurers’ QC, Michael Beloff (see post ‘It’s A Piece Of Cake’). Michael Beloff is a friend of Tony and Cherie and visited them at Chequers. The insurance company involved – Zurich –  also insured a number of police forces, including I think the North Wales Police. Michael Beloff’s dad Lord Max Beloff praised a book written by Ioan Bowen Rees Jones and recommended it as ‘essential reading’. Bowen Rees was Chief Exec of Gwynedd County Council whilst the paedophile gang raged within the Council’s children’s homes and whilst mental health patients were threatened, harassed and left destitute and to die by psychiatric social workers employed by the Council. Under Ioan’s leadership, Gwynedd County Council employed a corrupt County Secretary and a corrupt lawyer who framed people who complained about the Social Services (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’).

What would a long standing hard right Thatcherite like Howarth want with New Labour and what would they want with him?

Ray Powell refused to be bribed with a peerage but Howarth did find a safe Labour seat for which to stand at the 1997 General Election. Howarth was elected for the seat of Newport East. He succeeded Roy Evans, who had been an officer of the TGWU, 1959-66, a Councillor on Coventry City Council and the Secretary of Coventry City Labour Party from 1962. He was elected as MP for Newport East in 1966. Roy decided to retire at the 1997 General Election. He accepted a peerage upon his retirement.

Howarth was dropped from the Gov’t at the 2001 General Election – once the Waterhouse Report was done and dusted – and stood down from the Commons in the 2005 General Election. Whereupon he received a peerage.

Alan Howarth and his partner Baroness Patricia Hollis are one of the few couples who both hold peerages in their own right. I’m not quite sure how Patricia Hollis managed to pick up her peerage – she did write an award winning biography of Jennie Lee, Nye Bevan’s wife, but that’s hardly a reason to dish out a seat in the Lords and anyway Hollis didn’t write the Jennie Lee biography until 1998, eight years after she was given a peerage. Hollis was an historian at the University of East Anglia, 1967-90. She contested Great Yarmouth for the Labour Party in Feb 1974, Oct 1974 and in 1979. Hollis was a Councillor on Norwich City Council, 1968-91 and was leader of the Council, 1983-88. She was a member of the Press Council, 1988-90. If anyone knows how a not very well known historian from UEA who sat on Norwich City Council managed to persuade someone to give her a peerage, please do let me know.

Once in the Lords, Hollis was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the DWP, 1997-05. She was made a Privy Councillor in 1999 and then became Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk.

Alan Howarth and Patricia Hollis have come under fire for both claiming expenses for transporting themselves to and fro between their homes and the House of Lords, although they live next door to each other.

Once Huw Irranca-Davies had been elected as MP for Ogmore, he was appointed as PPS to Jane Kennedy, who was Minister of State in the N Ireland Office. Now Jane is certainly someone whom it is worth providing a bit of detail about.

Jane Kennedy graduated in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool and then worked in social care for Liverpool City Council, 1979-88. So Jane will know all about the abuse and neglect of children in care and other service users then. Children in care from Liverpool were sent on placement to north Wales. A lot of patients with drug problems from Liverpool also mysteriously found their way to north Wales, specifically to Dr Dafydd Alun Jones’s door. After doing her bit with the service users, Jane Kennedy became an organiser for the trade union NUPE – that was one of the trade unions who represented people who worked in social care, including those who had abused the people whom they were paid to care for (see post ‘A Very COHSE Relationship With Some Very Nasty People’). A union merger involving NUPE led to the formation of UNISON. Kennedy was also active in the Labour Party in Liverpool and was one of those who was credited with ridding the Liverpool Labour Party of Militant. So Jane Kennedy was another of Neil Kinnock’s foot soldiers then. In 1992 Kennedy was elected MP for Liverpool Broadgreen, after the sitting MP Terry Fields was deselected as a result of his links with Militant.

Kennedy was a member of the Social Security Select Committee, 1992-94 and in 1995 was appointed a Labour Whip. Between 1997-98 she was Assistant Gov’t Whip and then Gov’t Whip until 1999. Ah well the Waterhouse Inquiry was underway by then and Jane will have known where the bodies were buried. In 1997 Kennedy’s constituency was abolished, but she managed to get herself elected as MP for Liverpool Wavertree, so business continued as usual.

In 1999 Jane landed her first ministerial position – in the Lord Chancellor Derry Irvine’s dept, where she remained until 2001.

Jane then became Minister of State at the N Ireland office, which is when Huw Irranca-Davies worked as her bag carrier. Jane was responsible for security and the justice system in N Ireland! After the suspension of the N Ireland Assembly in Oct 2002, Kennedy was given responsibility for education and employment in N Ireland.

In 2003 Jane joined many other paedophiles’ friends as a Privy Councillor.

In 2004 Kennedy was transferred to the DWP as Minister of State, then after the 2005 General Election to the Dept of Health, where she was Minister of State once more, under Secretary of State the paedophiles’ friend Patricia Hewitt.

Jane left the Gov’t in May 2006. Journalists reported that she had been sacked but Jane maintained that she had resigned on principle as a result of her concern at the effect that Gov’t policies were having on the NHS. At the time Blair was stamping on whisteblowers and stuffing Top Doctors mouths with gold whilst concealing the neglect and abuse of patients which Jane will have known about for years. So what could Jane have been concerned about all of a sudden? It remains a mystery. Three years later in May 2009 when Jane announced that she would soon be standing down as an MP, Jane told the Liverpool Echo that she had thought about resigning from Parliament in 2006 when Sir David Henshaw was appointed Chair of the North West Strategic Health Authority. Jane told yet other people that she resigned in 2006 because of the damage that the Gov’ts NHS policies were inflicting on Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. This was the Alder Hey which years previously was the centre of a scandal when it was revealed that the organs of dead children had been retained without their parents’ knowledge let alone consent and that some of the organs had turned up in the garage of one of the Top Doctors. That had obviously all been OK with Jane.

Why might Jane have objected to the arrival of Sir David Henshaw so strongly? I’m not entirely sure, but Sir David Henshaw has the best CV that I have ever seen in terms of being associated with facilitators of serious crime. Here are the highlights:

BA at Sheffield City Polytechnic 1969-73, followed by an MA at the University of Birmingham, 1973-74.

Clerk, Merseyside Police Authority, 1989-01; Chief Exec, Knowsley Borough Council, 1989-99; Chief Exec of Liverpool City Council, 1999-06; Chair, North West Strategic Health Authority, 2006-11; Chair, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, 2011-present day; Chair, University Hospitals of  Morecombe Bay NHS Trust, 2012-13; Interim Chair, Dorset Health Care University Foundation Trust, 2013-14; Interim Chair, St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation, March 2016-present day; Chair, National Museums Liverpool, 2017-present day. Henshaw has also a non-executive Director of the National Offender Management Board; an advisor to the DWP, 2006-07; an advisor to the PM’s Delivery Unit. He carried out an Independent Review of Child Support Policy and the CSA in the UK and was an External Advisor on Public Service Reform to the Political Oversight Group for the States of Jersey.

Even a brief glimpse at the internet suggests that controversy follows David wherever he goes. A blog dedicated to exposing skulduggery in Liverpool maintains that after Sir David departed as Chief Exec of the Council he picked up a pension pay off of £240k – the blog also alleged that Sir David played around with his date of departure with a view to ensuring that the Council footed the bill for his pension. The same blog revealed that for his part-time job advising the CSA, Sir David was paid £340k a year. The enterprising blogger has posted up a nice photo of a young Sir David in the company of a young Jack Straw taken in the 1970s.

The website of St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust recently revealed that Chairman Sir David Henshaw  welcomed the appointment of Paula Vasco-Knight as the new acting Chief Exec. Paula Vasco-Knight featured on this blog last year. She is the former Chief Exec of an NHS Trust in Devon who narrowly avoided a prison sentence after it was revealed that she had played fast and loose with the Trust’s money. A number of Vasco-Knight’s close friends and relatives had also been appointed to jobs connected with the Trust. Whilst this was happening, local services were slashed, there was a protest march by the general public and there had been a number of deaths of mental health patients. An Angel who blew the whistle on the wrongdoing was sacked by Vasco-Knight. For the Vasco-Knight story in full, see post ‘NHS Chief Executive Collapses In Court After Being Spared Jail’.

Sir David Henshaw is either a secret agent who has been sent to spy on the biggest crooks in the UK welfare state or he needs to be arrested immediately.

A further twist in the story behind Jane Kennedy’s resignation from the Dept of Health was suggested by a May 2006 BBC News report, which quoted people loyal to Blair maintaining that recent events indicated that there was a plot to get him – Kennedy’s resignation was reported in the same news report.

Who could ever tell what the motive behind Jane’s resignation was, among this collection of deceitful, duplicitous, double-dealers whose only desire was of course To Serve.

Not that Jane’s resignation held her back for long. Under Gordon Brown, she was appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury, 2007-08. She took on the responsibilities of Dawn Primarolo SP, the Paymaster General. Dawn was another Strong Woman who managed to throw a few principles overboard in order to bag a place in Gov’t.

In Oct 2008 Gordon appointed Jane Minister of State in DEFRA. In 2009 Jane resigned from the Gov’t again and returned to the backbenches, because according to Jane, Gordon was a bastard who didn’t know how to Lead. Jane subsequently announced that she would be standing down from her seat at the 2010 General Election, because she was ‘tired’ and needed a bit of time for herself. An interview with Jane in the Liverpool Echo reported Jane as saying that she wanted to learn to speak French and to train her recently acquired Belgian Shepherd puppy with a view to entering the pup in competitions. In the same interview Jane described Gordon as a Mafia boss who didn’t actually pull the trigger himself but knew who was going to drop next. Jane presumably knew how Mafia bosses operate.

The Belgian Shepherd pup obviously left Jane with time on her hands however, because a huge row soon erupted when it was revealed that the person selected as the Labour Parliamentary candidate to fight Jane’s seat at the 2010 General Election, a Luciana Berger, had stayed at Jane Kennedy’s house for a period before she had been selected. Jane Kennedy shared her house with Peter Downing, the local Labour Party’s election agent who was responsible for running the selection process. Downing had run the whole process and had received the completed ballot papers at his and Jane’s home address. The address at which Luciana had been kipping for a while before she won the selection. In the run up to the General Election, it was  alleged that Berger had been parachuted into Liverpool Wavertree by Labour Party HQ. Luciana Berger was part of an All Women Shortlist which had been imposed on the local party. As the allegations flew, Luciana herself stated that she wished that she had been selected via an open process and that she knew that people were  saying that she did not deserve to win. Did Luciana withdraw and have another go elsewhere in an open selection process? No. Luciana was elected as the Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree at the 2010 General Election.

As for Jane – that dog of hers is obviously a genius and the easiest dog in the world to train for competitions, because after learning French and training the dog, Jane stood for election as the Labour candidate for the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner. She was elected as Commissioner in 2012 and remains in that post.

In May 2016 just after she was re-elected as Police and Crime Commissioner, Jane gave an interview to the Liverpool Echo regarding the huge problem of serious organised crime on Merseyside and explained that this is why the budget mustn’t be Cut. It’s also why people who have spent their lives since graduation ignoring serious crime in the welfare services shouldn’t be elected to Parliament or indeed as Police and Crime Commissioners.

Note to Neil Kinnock: Neil – I know that Derek Hatton was a pain in the bum, but did you really have to get rid of him and his friends by filling up the Labour Party with equally dreadful people who concealed criminal activities in the NHS and social care system? Would it have not been more sensible to have come clean about it, admitted that folk in your own Party were involved with organised child sexual abuse and associated wrongdoing as well and had the whole lot of them arrested? Witnesses were killed Kinnock – as was Michael Carr who did his best to help you. I know that you and Glenys have enjoyed the largesse of a very deep trough for many years now, as have your offspring, but Stephen and Rachel are a bit dim as well and probably will make as little contribution to the planet as you and Glenys have. Rachel’s place in Ed Miliband’s Top Team didn’t result in anything too positive for the Labour Party did it?

It’s worth saying a few things here about Jane Kennedy’s successor, Luciana.

Luciana seems to be another descendant of a famous Labour dynasty who have sold out – she is the great niece of Manny Shinwell, who was part of Attlee’s Gov’t. Luciana’s mum was a counsellor in a palliative care unit, so probably turned a blind eye to a few dangerous doctors and quite a bit of patient harm. Luciana went to the University of Birmingham and then to Birkbeck (University of London). She was a member of the NEC of the NUS but resigned in 2005 over the alleged anti-Semitic conduct of other members. Luciana spent three years as Director of the Labour Friends of Israel, but resigned just before the 2010 General Election. Jane Kennedy was Chair of the Labour Friends of Israel, 1997-98 and again between 2000-07. Luciana was also a committee member of the London Jewish Forum – a body which helps Jewish people get on in London life – but stepped down before she became an MP.

Before becoming an MP Berger worked for the CRE, for management consultancy Accenture and for the NHS Confederation! You weren’t really among the dispossessed were you Luciana. It also become known that prior to the row over her selection as the candidate for Wavertree Luciana had been selected to represent a safe Labour ward in Camden Council. She offered to relinquish her Camden candidacy, but the Labour Party wouldn’t agree to that until they’d settled (or should I say fixed?) the selection for Wavertree.

Luciana ran into trouble in Oct 2010 when she appeared in a Radio Five Live show with Kelvin MacKenzie, who is probably the most hated person on Merseyside – with good reason. Luciana’s excuse in the face of the outrage was that she didn’t know that MacKenzie was going to be appearing.

Luciana ran into trouble yet again in Sept 2011 when the Jewish Chronicle reported that she had come under fire from the Jewish community in Liverpool for not using her position as an MP to defend Israel for the sake of her career development. In 16 months Luciana had not managed to mention Israel in the Commons.  Well why would she, she’s bagged her seat now.

In the run up to the 2011 Budget, Luciana contributed to Left Foot Forward. That’s the blog run by Will Straw, Jack’s son, who’s also on the hunt for a safe Labour seat. Jack is part of a dance troupe who call themselves The Nutters, who as part of their routine black up.

In 2014 Luciana was appointed by Jeremy Corbyn as Shadow Minister for Public Health and in 2015 became Shadow Minister for Mental Health – Luciana stressed that the Tories haven’t got one of them. She wasn’t up to much though, she spouted the usual banal rubbish about service users and stigma.

In 2015 Luciana unsuccessfully applied for selection as the Labour candidate for the Metro Mayor of Liverpool.

In 2016 Luciana resigned from the Shadow Cabinet because Jeremy’s rubbish. Presumably she’ll now have time to do other things – perhaps she could black up and join Will Straw in The Nutters.

Luciana has certainly had her own cross to bear. She has been one of the leaders of the debate concerning the trauma of MPs receiving abuse on social media. Luciana has gone public on just how many anti-Semitic tweets she has received. She is so frightened that she has reported the matter to the police repeatedly. It’s really rough being an MP – Jess Phillips had to fit extra security measures to her house and tweet photos of herself doing so because meatheads were sending her insulting tweets and yesterday former TV presenter, barrister and Strong Woman Anna Soubry was on Radio 4 accusing the Torygraph of putting her life at risk because they ran a headline referring to ‘The Brexit Mutineers’. Anna explained that after that headline was published, she received death threats on twitter and the connection was obvious – mutineers are, well mutineers, they mutinied and killed people. I saw a little boy dressed up in a Pirate’s outfit the other day. I tell you, I was terrified. However because I am not an MP I wasn’t give media time to tell everyone how frightened I was.

Between June 2005-May 2006 Huw Irranca-Davies was PPS to none other than paedophiles’ friend and Blair’s biggest fan Tessa Jowell at the Dept of Culture, Media and Sport. Tessa who had worked as a child care officer in Lambeth when the kids were attacked by paedophiles and were also sent to north Wales children’s homes where they were yet again attacked by paedophiles whilst Lambeth Borough Council ignored it all; Tessa who had been a psychiatric social worker at the Maudsley which was concealing the abuse of children and mental health patients – and where Dafydd had worked and had connections; Tessa who was Deputy Director of MIND whilst MIND had links with PIE and held a conference which included a session on paedophiles’ rights and concealed the wrongdoing of Dafydd et al in north Wales. For more details of Tessa’s previous see post ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’.  By the time that Huw was bag carrier for Tessa, Tessa’s husband David Mills was doing favours for Blair’s mate Silvio Berlusconi which would have landed Mills in prison had he not maxed out the Italian appeals system and then exploited a legal loophole (see post ‘The London Connection’).

Huw was also PPS to an unidentified Minister at the DWP – I suspect that it was Jane Kennedy.

Between June 2007-October 2008 Irranca-Davies was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales. The NHS is devolved but I’m sure that Huw will have heard about the chaos in the NHS in north Wales and who knows Huw might even have known that by then the brother-in-law of Blair’s Director of Operations John McTernan had made off with my computer.

Huw moved on to work as an Environment Minister in DEFRA – presumably alongside Jane Kennedy when she was there. After Gordon Brown lost the election, Huw became Minister for Energy in the Shadow Cabinet.

Huw was certainly a busy man whilst he was in Westminster. He tells us that he was involved in many All Party Groups, including those for Citizens Advice, Coalfield Communities, Universities and Children in Wales! Huw was co-chair for the Patient and Public Involvement in Health and Social Care Group. So Huw will know a great deal about many of the horrors discussed on this blog – and he’ll be well aware of what a travesty ‘service user involvement’ is.

Unlike so many of those who are now Ready To Serve, Huw hasn’t tried to shaft Jeremy Corbyn – in fact Huw nominated Jezza as a candidate in the Labour leadership election in 2015.

It was in 2015 when after all those years of the National Assembly awaiting him that Huw finally heard the call of Cardiff Bay  and realised that was where his heart lay – after all, at that time everybody was maintaining that Jeremy was never going to lead the Labour Party to victory and why would Huw want to waste his time in opposition in Westminster when there’s a Labour Gov’t in Wales? Huw’s opportunity soon arose when Ray Powell’s daughter Janice Gregory stood down as the AM for Ogmore. Did Janice pack the sort of punch that her dad did? Not really.

The Western Mail declared Janice to be a ‘well below par performer’ during the 2003-07 Assembly term. But Janice seems to have been a well below par performer before that – after her dad died there was even speculation that she might not be reselected. But she was and because she had a safe seat she was able to continue performing well below par in the National Assembly for many more years, until someone decided that Huw needed a helping hand.

How did Janice get into a position in which she was able to pursue a career performing well below par? Well from 1991 Janice worked as political secretary for her dad. That was the year of the Great Stuffing Over of me and a number of my friends who knew what had happened to me at the hands of Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends – the year in which there was an attempt to frame me for a serious crime, with which St George’s Hospital Medical School was complicit (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London’), the year in which two of my friends who worked in the media had their careers ruined….

As a result of working for her dad, Janice will have been party to a great deal of information – including information about the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Janice was also active in the local constituency Labour Party, was of course wimmin’s officer for the Party and Chair of Ogmore Wimmin’s Forum. Janice’s wiki mentions that ‘several other family members were active in Labour politics’. Yes I bet that family ran fucking Ogmore.

Janice was elected to the Assembly in 1999 as part of the first cohort of AMs and was appointed Labour Group Whip! But Janice soon had a hissy fit and resigned the Whip in Feb 2000 – which was the month that the Waterhouse Report was published! Janice didn’t resign as a result of that – or at least she didn’t say that she did. Janice resigned in Feb 2000 because in Feb 2000 Blair’s mate Alun Michael resigned as First Minister! But then the only person who had wanted Alun Michael to be FM anyway was Blair. Janice resigned the Whip along with unidentified others on the grounds that Andrew Davies AM had plotted to remove Alun Michael. Janice, I think that Alun Michael might have resigned for some other reason.

However Andrew Davies is someone who it’s worth writing a few lines about. Between 2002-07 Andrew Davies was Minister for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks. At the time Andrew had been doing a lot of networking himself with that other great networker Meri Huws aka the Crack of Doom (see post ‘Let Me Enlighten Lord Gnome…’) and they had an affair. It all kicked off at the National Eisteddfod and it even made the Western Mail. Such things shouldn’t actually matter, but what with Meri being Meri, allegations swirled that Meri was shagging Davies in order to land her next Gov’t job. The rumours wouldn’t go away and on one occasion Davies even felt obliged to joke to a group of Daily Post reporters that he hadn’t got Meri her job – Meri had just been appointed to yet another position that everyone knew that she should not have been, I think it was a position on the Welsh Language Board. Andrew Davies later became Minister for Social Justice and Public Service Delivery – that went well didn’t it – and then in July 2007 Davies was appointed Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery. Davies subsequently had a serious heart problem and stood down from the Assembly. He is now a Professor at Swansea University – he had been the AM for Swansea West and was a graduate of Swansea University.

Janice did not only get angry with Meri’s bedfellow. Janice had been very cross with Ron Davies as well and called on him to resign when it was revealed that he had applied for jobs outside politics without informing the Labour leadership. I don’t think that Ron was going to take any notice, he tried to make a comeback after that business with Boogie on Clapham Common and still persisted after he was caught ‘looking for badgers’ at a well-known cruising and dogging spot a few years later. Ron is now a member of Caerphilly County Council and his ex-wife Christina Rees has been Labour MP for Neath since 2015. Not only that, but in Feb 2017 Jezza appointed Christina as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales!  Christina is a barrister who was married for many years to a man who did some very interesting things, but Christina’s wiki entry is surprisingly brief, concentrating on her time as head girl at school and her love of sports.

Janice was the Chair of the Assembly’s Social Justice and Regeneration Committee. Ah well it had been acknowledged that she was a well below par performer – although how the Western Mail managed to identify her among all the other well below par performers I do not know.

The man whom Janice made way for, Huw Irranca-Davies, has been busy writing articles for the web. He really churns them out. One of his articles received pride of place on the World Wildlife Fund site. Huw wrote another article regarding the necessity of killing Muntjac deer. Obviously that wasn’t one of the articles that Huw wrote for the WWF.

Some years ago the Western Mail announced that Huw was Wales’s sexiest man. I really had never noticed. Interestingly enough, the Daily Post Online made a very similar comment about Ken Skates AM the other day. Ken Skates is someone else who knows nuzzing about a paedophile gang that operated on his doorstep.

Ken Skates and Huw Irranca-Davies both consistently tell the journalists who write silly flattering profiles of them that they have no interest at all in becoming First Minister. They are of course just Ready To Serve.

Carwyn’s going to find himself sleeping with the fishes at this rate.

As for other news – the media in Wales are running reports about huge drugs raids by the police across north and mid-Wales last night. Numerous people have been arrested in a major operation involving the North Wales Police as well as police from Liverpool and Manchester. The news reports are claiming that a few Mr Bigs have been arrested. Oh well, that will have interrupted the supplies to the CAIS peer support workers who are busy distributing the goodies across north Wales – who knows a few CAIS peer support workers might now be in the cells. Dafydd and Lucille will need to recruit some more to replace those that have been taken out of circulation. I look forward to seeing adverts for CAIS volunteers over the next few weeks. Perhaps Jane Kennedy the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner could comment on why drug dealing has flourished in Liverpool since she was elected in 2012. No doubt north Wales’s very own Arfon Jones the paedophiles’ friend will appear in the Daily Post within days with a few words of wisdom.

Daily Post Online reported that some public spirited students from Glyndwr University have held a Pyjama Party to raise money to enable them to help homeless and vulnerable people on Merseyside who are going without basics. Well as Sir David Henshaw cleaned Liverpool City Council out with his golden goodbye, Liverpool won’t have any money left for people in need, so it’ll be down to students to plug the gap.

The Menai Science Park on Anglesey is now gearing up for business and has named the first businesses who have agreed to locate themselves in the Science Park. The Director of the Science Park is none other than the former leader of Plaid, former Deputy First Minister of Wales, former AM for Ynys Mon, a solicitor who managed to ignore the abuse of children in care and the abuse of mental health patients although it was happening in front of him for decades, Ieuan Wyn Jones. Ieuan had another go at being a politician a few months ago but no-one voted for him so he’s making do with being the Director of the flagship science park. The Science Park is in partnership with Bangor University which has just won an award for being a ‘sustainable university’. I’m not quite sure how sustainable parts of Bangor University are – some people who work there are great, but there’s certainly a major problem with those bits of the University which are associated with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Daily Post Online also ran a feature on the cancer research team at the University. I don’t know any members of that team, but I couldn’t help noticing that their work is funded by Cancer Research UK, an organisation now led by the crooks that I witnessed in action in the late 1980s (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’) and goes under the umbrella of North West Cancer, an organisation which has been recently questioned by some political bloggers in Wales.

Today has been Budget Day. I’ve been too busy working on this post to listen to the details of Spreadsheet Phil’s miracle, but I did overhear a few headlines at lunchtime. Phil is rolling out classes in basic maths – which I think is a good idea, because it might stop innumerate politicians misunderstanding the propaganda of Top Doctors and Angels. I do hope that Phil is going to send the nation’s judges to the arithmetic lessons as well, because perhaps then innocent people will not be jailed for murder because the likes of Sir Roy Meadow have chosen to make up ludicrous statistics in their capacity as expert witnesses. However I fear that Spreadsheet Phil’s maths lessons are somewhat belated – he has given many more millions to the NHS and I heard him making comments about those nurses who look after us all. Like the nurses who looked after Michael Carr at Walton Hospital presumably. Some of them will still be on the loose in the NHS.

The stream of revelations about sexual harassment in high places continues. There was an item on the Today programme this morning concerning ‘unwanted hugs’. I’ll tell you where one finds unwanted hugs – service user groups for wimmin. I gave up frequenting such events many years ago because of – as well as all the other fuckwittery – the very worrying manner in which female service users were constantly implored to hug and cuddle each other because it was considered to be of therapeutic benefit for some unexplained reason. Some of these service users were women who had been sexually assaulted, sometimes whilst in the care system. Wimmin who did not wish to participate in the hugging and cuddling were identified as ‘having problems’. I cannot think of a better way of rendering women who might have good reason not to want to be groped vulnerable to groping than telling them that there’s something wrong with them if they refuse unwanted physical contact and package that contact as being therapeutic. A few years ago I carried out an experiment. I had heard worrying anecdotes about a wimmins group for service users in north east Wales called KIM – this is an acronym for the truly vomit-inducing full name of ‘Kindness In Mind’. So some four years ago I popped along to a meeting of KIM. I had never witnessed so much hugging in one place in one morning. Lest readers dismiss me as a crusty old cow who doesn’t understand friendship, the hugging was not just going on between good friends. At least four people tried to hug me and they’d never clapped eyes on me before. Furthermore, the hugging was indeed being encouraged by the rather questionable group ‘leaders’. KIM’s client group is wimmin who have mental health problems – particularly problems that have arisen from sexual abuse. But who’s going to see the harm in pathological hugging when no-one even investigated after five patients made statements saying that they’d had a sexual relationship with Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and whilst he was co-habiting with two female patients at once?

The meeting at KIM was advertised as an activity session. The activity in question was making a plasticine pig. A pink one of course, because after all the group was for wimmin. Someone who described herself as a ceramic artist – I foolishly thought that we might get Wrexham’s answer to Grayson Perry – arrived and spent a whole hour showing a roomful of grown wimmin how to make a plasticine pig ‘to hang on your handbag’. The pigs weren’t even fired in an oven or painted, probably because that would have been far too dangerous for wimmin service users to undertake. I have heard that male service users have complained that KIM is discriminatory because they only offer a service to wimmin. I told one man that he really wasn’t missing anything by not making a plasticine pig for his handbag and I theorised that no-one would dare offer such nonsense to a group of men. In return he told me how he had been invited to an occupational therapy session at the Hergest Unit, run not by the occupational therapist – who was actually very good – but by a nursing assistant, where he was told to draw ‘the tree of life’. He had no idea what that was, so he asked the nursing assistant – again – what he was supposed to do. Once more he was told to draw the tree of life, only this time the nursing assistant shouted at him to draw the tree of life. He left the room, none the wiser. So if you’re a woman it’s plasticine pigs and if you’re a man it’s the tree of life. If any readers happen to know what the tree of life actually is, I’d be most interested to hear.

I’m glad to say that Radio 4 has recently been promoting the therapeutic use of colouring books for people with mental health problems. Lest they become overexcited with the plasticine pigs and the tree of life. I expect that someone has done a clinical trial somewhere.

There are far more exciting things happening at Cardiff University than colouring in, although it could well have been their Top Doctors who carried out the clinical trial. Yesterday BBC News Wales Online reported that Cardiff’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Riordan has declared himself bisexual. I’m not sure why – it’s not really anyone’s business but his own, but Prof Riordan not only felt the need to come out, but he wrote a letter to everyone in the University explaining that he was bisexual. Cardiff University was then festooned in flags and banners to show the world how positive it is about bisexual people. Colin Riordan might not know this, but a lot of people are going to be having a good laugh at his claims that Cardiff is a university which welcomes bisexual people, because of the long-standing conduct of a member of his staff, who has recently been awarded a Chair at Cardiff despite a very threadbare CV with not very many not very impressive publications and only very modest grant capture. The man in question is notorious across Wales because of his penchant for wearing a navy blue blazer which makes him look like an aspiring Tory MP and for getting drunk at events to which he is invited and then propositioning people of both genders. I and a group of friends witnessed him in action a few years ago. It was only 8pm, we were still in the post-conference restaurant not having yet finished dinner when a horrified male PhD student told us that he’d just been followed into the gents and propositioned by that ‘pompous idiot from Cardiff’.

The big world news story is of course the resignation of Robert Mugabe and the national party that Zimbabwe has thrown to celebrate. Perhaps the British Army could take a leaf out of the book of Zimbabwe and place Theresa under house arrest until she agrees to thrown in the towel.

This afternoon I heard that Ratko Mladic the Bosnian Serb Commander has been sentenced to life at The Hague for the 1990s Srebrenica massacre. I await Blair’s trial for war crimes. Or indeed for systematically surrounding himself with and then promoting to high office people who had knowledge of organised crime within the child care system and NHS.

There will be another post soon concerning others whom Blair promoted, but I need to just clear up the mess left behind from that horse’s head that I discovered in my bed earlier…

Social Work -Theory

BBC News Wales are reporting that more than 130 ‘looked after’ children from Wales are currently in ‘care placements’ outside of the country. The numbers of children placed outside of Wales varies between local authorities – for example Swansea has a comparatively high number, whereas Carmarthenshire and Denbighshire have none. The BBC asked all 22 local authorities in Wales how many children and young people were placed outside the country. Eighteen provided figures, revealing that at least 131 children were placed outside of Wales, with either a relative, friend, foster carer or in a home. Merthyr Tydfil, Rhonda Cynon Taf, the Vale of Glamorgan and Wrexham Councils did not provide figures. Among the long list of English authorities which were named as receiving children from Wales there were some such as Doncaster that have been the centre of scandals involving the sexual exploitation of children in care. Of course some of the councils sending children on placement to England, such as Swansea, have also presided over scandals regarding their children’s services. ‘Action For Children’ have stated that children placed hundreds of miles away from their original homes can feel ‘disconnected’. Jennie Welham, the ‘children’s services manager’ for Torfaen’s multi-disciplinary intervention service has commented that it’s a ‘big deal’ for children to be miles away from families, communities, schools, friends and previous activities. She also observed that placing a child from the Welsh Valleys in suburban Surrey would be ‘huge for identity’. Dr Jael Harris, a clinical psychologist colleague of Ms Welhams observed that the lack of foster carers was the key reason that youngsters ended up outside of Wales, that foster carer’s receive ‘inadequate support from the mental health services and therapeutic services to really understand children’s needs…it really does require people to work together across health, education, social care and the voluntary sector and that’s sometimes difficult to pull off…takes a shared vision across agencies and that willingness to collaborate’. Des Manion, head of NSPCC in Wales, commented that the majority of children who need foster care have suffered from abuse and neglect in their birth families and were taken into care to protect them from significant harm and that it is often challenging to find a placement that will meet the child’s needs – moving them outside of their local area often makes it difficult to provide the best possible support for them.

It is so obvious that transporting ‘looked after’ children hundreds of miles across the UK and frequently moving them from one ‘placement’ to another will be profoundly damaging, that people involved in child care outside of the UK are gobsmacked that this happens. Some years ago I got to know a young German man who, in Germany, had worked as a ‘social pedagogue’ (a profession that we don’t have in the UK, but it’s a profession that spans the fields of social work/occupational therapy/education) and he could not believe what the UK care system does to it’s children. Indeed, he established a consultancy and was able to make a living advising English local authorities that moving children from placement to placement hundreds of miles away from their original homes, families, schools and friends really was not a good idea. I was delighted to hear that he was doing this – but why did it take a young German in his capacity as a consultant to tell the UK care system something that nearly every grandma in the country could have told them?

This process of transporting children in care around the UK has been going on for decades. Readers will remember that in my posts about the north Wales child abuse scandal, I detailed how children from London authorities – authorities which also had paedophile rings operating in their children’s homes – were being placed in Paul Hett’s ‘children’s homes’ and ‘residential schools’ at Dolgellau where there were allegations of sexual abuse and cruelty (see post ‘Further Information On Garth Angharad Hospital’). It was revealed during the Waterhouse Inquiry that children from other parts of the UK were being placed with the Bryn Alyn Community, the children’s home complex in north Wales where sexual abuse had been rife. However these former residents could not be traced, because their records had gone up in flames during the Waterhouse Inquiry in the warehouse fire that ‘wasn’t suspicious’ and they were no longer living in Wales.

I really don’t think that it was an accident that children in those children’s homes which had been infiltrated by paedophiles were being shunted around hundreds of miles across the UK – there was very obviously a reciprocal arrangement in place and my post ‘More On Those Prisons For Folk Who Dared Complain’ has explained the links that existed between these abusive ‘services’ across the UK. If you are a vulnerable person being abused in the ‘care’ of others it is very much harder to draw attention to what is happening to you if you are hundreds of miles away from your family, your friends, any other connections that you might have. It’s even harder if you are a kid from inner London living in an isolated ‘home’ in Snowdonia where you don’t even speak the same language as the rest of the village. It would be equally isolating for a child from Wales to be placed in London. (I described the same process in my post ‘A Very Convenient Arrangement With The Private Sector’, only in that case it was vulnerable people with learning difficulties and mental health problems being transported from hospitals in England to a network of thoroughly abusive ‘care homes’ in north Wales which were actually part of a people trafficking organisation.) But that was what was happening in the 80s and it’s still happening now. Furthermore, this wasn’t a result of a few ‘bad eggs’. This sort of en masse child abuse is rather different from an unsavoury character in a flasher’s mac lurking around on the corner – that is bad enough, but the sort of thing that the Waterhouse Inquiry was investigating and that the other more recent inquiries into child abuse have investigated is organised crime, which is why the inquiries never get to the bottom of it and the large scale abuse of children in care has continued. More recent scandals such as Rotherham have begun to show just how serious the criminals involved are – the teenagers being abused were being threatened with guns if there was a suspicion that they might go to the police and one girl was doused in petrol and threatened with being burned alive. This is nasty stuff and involves institutional corruption in the police, the mental health services and the law. If new readers think that I am blowing things out of proportion here, read my past posts regarding the names of the numerous ‘expert witnesses’, lawyers and judges who were faced with the reality of what the children’s services and mental health services in north Wales were doing to people but either ignored it or colluded – and of course the many politicians who knew but kept schtum. It has been admitted that the CPS ‘missed opportunities’ to prosecute Lord Greville Janner for child abuse – at least one of those ‘missed opportunities’ was due to a slip-up by Alison Saunders. Alison Saunders is Director of Public Prosecutions. (For further details please see post ‘Sisters Are Indeed Doing It For Themselves’.)A system like that can’t operate unless an awful lot of people are on board – and if this sort of machinery was in place in the 1980s, what is going to be happening now?

So what of the people on the ground who are organising these ‘placements’ and who are responsible for the children’s welfare ie. the social workers? One does not have to be a journalist working for the Daily Mail to realise that the social work profession is in deep trouble. I am close friends with a number of people who have worked as social workers or completed social work education and all have told me that it is a very dysfunctional profession. They all believe that social work has a place in society but they maintain that it has gone badly wrong and indeed went badly wrong years ago because of, basically, institutionalised corruption. One friend underwent social work training in London in the 1970s and undertook a placement with Haringey. (Haringey was of course the authority that became mired in serious scandal after the death of Victoria Climbie and then again after the death of ‘Baby P’, Peter Connelly.) He told me that even then, Haringey was in chaos. He and his fellow students were expected to process the most sensitive, difficult cases in a conveyor-belt like fashion. He told me of one case in which a client died as a direct result of a decision made by a social worker that a layperson could have predicted would be catastrophic. At one point, my friend wrote a report stating that the main problem that the ‘problem family’ to which he had been allocated had was very bad housing. He was told by his tutor that he ‘wasn’t allowed’ to write that and that the students must not criticise the council. That would have been Islington Council presumably – the Islington Council whose children’s homes had been infiltrated by paedophiles, the Islington Council run by Margaret Hodge – the Margaret Hodge who is now in the House of Lords, the Margaret Hodge who is a mate of Tony Blair. The Margaret Hodge who was married to a judge. (For more complicity of this nature involving some now very influential people please see post ‘The London Connection’.) I have a friend whose father is a retired social worker and who was himself involved in the investigation of a paedophile ring in Chester, which involved social workers. She remarked that it was frightening how ‘evil’ some social workers are. (Having been stung by Lucille Hughes, Rob Evans and Keith Fearns, I second that.) I have another friend who left social work because they felt that they could not protect their clients from the rampant abuses within the care system itself. I know a number of social work students who reported abuse that they’d witnessed on placement and were told very firmly to keep quiet about this or they would not be qualifying. They took the view that they would go along with this to qualify but after qualifying they would work in some other sector because they could not be complicit with such malpractice. I live in hope that one day some of these people will publish what they witnessed – we need to hear a critique of what has gone so wrong in social work, but not from a Thatcheresque ‘I hate them because they are a bunch of Guardian-reading pinkos’ perspective. The anecdotes that I have heard have come from right across the UK, from people ranging in age from their 20s to their late 60s. Like psychiatry, social work has been in a bad way for decades.

Social workers like to believe that ‘social work theory’ underpins their practice. ‘Social work theory’, like ‘nursing science’, is a rather strange beast. The ‘theory’ that student social workers are actually exposed to is usually a sort of rather uncritical watered down version of a simplistic understanding of sociology. Social workers are aware that ‘gender’ matters, but the message that is sent out is frightening. Some five years ago I sat in a seminar room with four other female academics and a social worker  – we were taking part in a seminar to analyse gender in film. The film in question was a particularly vomit-inducing romcom with Jennifer Anniston. The plot seemed to revolve around Jennifer Anniston bursting into tears periodically because her boyfriend hadn’t purchased her flowers. The boyfriend would then claim ‘but you told me not to’, so Jen would cry even harder and say things like ‘but you must know not to believe a girl when she says that she doesn’t want flowers’. (And of course when a woman says she doesn’t want sex she really means YES!) A discussion followed where we all agreed that the portrayal of women in this film as passive aggressive idiots who say no when they mean yes was very worrying, but at least it was set in New York or some similar city and didn’t really have much to say to a normal woman living in Wales. I say we all agreed – well all of us except for the social worker. She assured us that this hogwash was an accurate portrayal of the lives of the women that she met in north Wales in her capacity as a social worker and that such films provided her with a real ‘insight’ into the roles in the families that she worked with. And that because she was a social worker she knew all about sex roles. This was not a one-off. I was told by a senior academic who was a sociologist that he was called in to resolve a problem with a social work student – the student had complained of being bullied whilst on placement – which necessitated meeting the social worker supervising the placement, who robustly denied any wrongdoing. The meeting took place in the sociologist’s office and a few days previously a student had sent him a postcard whilst on holiday, a standard postcard of people sitting on the beach, featuring men in trunks and women in bikinis. As the dispute regarding whether the student had been bullied on placement or not heated up, the supervising social worker told the senior sociologist that he needed ‘gender training’ because he had pinned up a ‘sexist oppressive’ postcard on the office wall. At this point the sociologist told the social worker to ‘fuck off’. The sociologist could also have mentioned that he’d published on gender theory, but hey I don’t think that it would have sunk in, so telling the social worker to fuck off was probably more sensible. The social worker concerned was employed in an authority that had previously been the centre of a major child abuse scandal and is still plagued by allegations of abuse and corruption.

I witnessed at first hand much confusion over ‘theory’ in social work whilst I attended a course at an FE college in north Wales some years ago. Many people were using this as an ‘access to social work’ course and only me and two other students did not go on to become social workers. This course provided me with some knowledge of the thinking of a number of people who eventually were employed as social workers in north Wales. The whole class was constantly told that ‘anti-discriminatory’ and ‘anti-oppressive practice’ was central to social work. Yet it was clear that there was very little understanding of what these terms meant, even on the part of the lecturer. One morning there was a discussion regarding Section 28 (the legislation introduced by Thatcher that prevented the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality by local authorities). The discussion didn’t pivot around the political manipulation of services or the stigmatising by Gov’t of a group of people who were not breaking any law. The discussion was led by two women (who both subsequently obtained employment as social workers in north Wales) as to whether homosexuality was ‘right’ or not. A comment of ‘well we’ve all heard about their rights but what about ours? I don’t want to work with people like that’ was made by one of these students. Another student then asked the lecturer whether she thought that homosexuality was ‘right’ or not. The lecturer replied that she thought that it was ‘wrong’. Anti-discriminatory practice anyone? Or are we talking hating queers? On another occasion a student robustly denounced the presence of another student on the course because they were German and she wouldn’t want ‘a German’ as a social worker. One day in a discussion concerning the circumstances under which social workers should impose their will on clients, one of the students who hated poofs revealed that she worked with an old lady who had terminal cancer. The old lady lived in the cottage on Anglesey where she’d lived all of her life but it wasn’t modernised and she had to walk across a courtyard to get hot water. The student who hated poofs had been making representation to her manager suggesting that the old lady should be made to move into a nice bungalow, although the old lady was highly resistant to this idea. The manager had explained to the student that the old lady was fully in possession of her faculties and that she wanted to stay in her life-long home. The student remarked to the class that ‘if I was in charge I’d have her out of there’. And the old lady would probably be dead within a month…

Throughout this course, as I heard the most extraordinary attitudes expressed, I had to keep reminding myself that not all these people would actually become social workers and be let loose on the world. They did and they were. The only students who didn’t become social workers were me and two others who chose to do something else. The queer-bashing German-hating old lady-dictating students all qualified. Some six years ago I heard a follow up anecdote from someone who knew one of the homophobes. The homophobe had become a probation officer and had been promoted to the position of team leader of a team that was alleged to be full of bad practice, bullying and was generally considered to be unmanageable. I was told that not only was the homophobe completely out of her depth but that the team had been in trouble because of a major cock-up. A group of young male prisoners had been given early release and as part of the conditions for this they were obliged to attend a course at an FE college. There was subsequently an incident at the FE college when one of these young men became incredibly aggressive with a female lecturer. It transpired that this man had been in prison for rape and no-one had told the college. The woman lecturer had been left alone with him, out of hours. Questions were asked about how this ever happened – and it was discovered that the homophobic ‘team leader’ had not risk-assessed any of the former prisoners. I was told that it was this incident, as well as the general chaos presiding in the team that she ‘led’, that caused her to be quietly put out to grass in the form of ‘sick leave’ followed by early retirement shortly afterwards.

It seemed that no matter how unsuitable a student, they would be allowed to qualify from this course. I knew of another case in which a student – but not one in the year in which I undertook that course – was identified as being a potential danger to clients by the one very competent lecturer who taught on the course (who interestingly enough wasn’t a social worker herself). This student had misunderstood the theories regarding the toxicity of organophosphates used in sheep deep and kept maintaining that she knew ‘farmers who had developed schizophrenia from the sheep dip’. Believing that Gwynedd was heaving with farmers sent mad because of the sheep deep could be perceived as eccentric but harmless – but this young woman was rounding the farmers up and taking them to the Hergest Unit demanding that they be sectioned. The college knew that this was happening. The young woman concerned was also known to be claiming to be personal friends with various well-known people when she wasn’t. Although the one capable lecturer was doing her best to raise concerns about the conduct of that student she was ignored. She became even more concerned when, a few weeks before the final exams, this student heard a woman in a supermarket shout at her child when they were shopping and rang the police telling them that she was a social worker and that this woman was a child abuser and demanded that she be arrested. The college were told of this incident by the very concerned police. Weeks later that student qualified. I was told that an objection was raised by someone but they were told that there was a shortage of Welsh speaking social workers and she was a Welsh speaker and on those grounds alone she would be permitted to qualify. Bilingual social workers are a useful thing, but there doesn’t seem much point in having them if they also keep trying to lock innocent people up for no good reason – before they’ve even got around to qualifying. So if you live in Gwynedd – that woman is practising near you, so don’t yell at the kids or admit to using sheep dip if she’s in your vicinity.

As with the insanity prevailing in the mental health services, I strongly reject the notion that these things are ‘only happening in north Wales’. They aren’t. The craziness and misunderstanding has its own manifestation in north Wales because of local concerns – for example, rurality and the Welsh speaking nature of many communities. But the complete misunderstanding and misapplication of ‘theory’ takes place across the board. Shortly before all hell broke loose in, I think it was Rotherham, in the wake of the publicity regarding the criminal gangs who’d been sexually molesting teenage girls whilst EVERYONE ignored this, one of the senior social services managers who was named as being complicit with the abuse in the same authority was the centre of a less high profile scandal, in which a foster family had had a child removed from their care because they were found to be UKIP supporters. The woman who was later named in the abuse scandal appeared on the BBC explaining that the foster child was mixed race and as UKIP was a racist party they had to remove the child. There had been no previous concerns regarding the child’s welfare at the hands of the Ukippers. I can’t really imagine a situation in which I’d ever vote UKIP myself, but there was clearly a lot of confusion involved in this decision – confusion regarding what racism is, what ethnicity and associated identity might be and indeed confusion as to what UKIP actually is. Meanwhile the same woman said nothing when scores of white teenagers were gang raped by criminal gangs because she confused notions of crime and notions of racism.

I think a lot of what I’ve seen and heard regarding the misuse of ‘theory’ in social work is a result of sheer fuckwittery. However I have seen such examples that definitely are not. I know one lady who has for many years fostered and worked with troubled young people who have been abused variously by their birth families, the child care system and the mental health system. She has been very, very brave in taking a stand against some very abusive individuals and systems. She is also involved with the Anglican Church. On one occasion I was discussing her work with a social worker whom I now know has for years known about the serious abuses in the north Wales mental health system and undoubtedly knew about the child abuse within the children’s services as well – he has kept quiet about all of it and for years worked within those systems without blowing the whistle. He commented that this lady’s ‘religious beliefs made her oppressive’. No they didn’t, at no point did she ever try to involve any of the many people whom she supported in her religious life – although some of them did end up choosing to attend church with her, this was because they asked her if they could accompany her. I suspect that a lot of people felt very challenged by this lady and what she was discovering – she very obviously couldn’t be discredited in any other way, but oooh, those religious beliefs… Thus the waters are muddied.

Gaining clarity through the muddied waters is very difficult indeed. I note that the BBC report about the children in care relied on the opinions of people from the Third sector as well. The Third sector is frequently complicit with abuse in the statutory and private services (hence the many previous references to MIND on this blog). The NSPCC was found to have failed as badly as Haringey Social Services in the Victoria Climbie case – furthermore the NSPCC altered documentation in order to try to conceal their failures. Martin Knapp, an academic now at the LSE, memorably described the Third sector as a ‘loose and baggy monster’. It’s a hugely variable sector, with some parts doing some very fine work, but other parts are corrupted or are simply complicit with failures in other sectors. The big professionalised charities who receive millions in Gov’t funding are undoubtedly completely compromised.

The BBC has just finished screening a three part series, ‘Three Girls’, based on the Rochdale child abuse scandal. (I haven’t watched it all on catch-up yet, but I have seen two episodes.) There seems to be much discussion regarding the social worker who blew the whistle being made redundant. Of course she was, that is part of the routine. If a whistleblower was ever going to be listened to, the sort of abuses that were happening in Rochdale would never have taken place. This was not a case of ‘stigmatised’ teenagers ‘not being believed’ – everyone knew what was happening, they were all just working very hard indeed not to admit it. Girls and their parents were repeatedly telling the police and social workers what was going on and they were clearly terrified. Girls of thirteen were getting pregnant – these weren’t immaculate conceptions. There was massive collusion among every branch of the state. Much has been made of allegations that it was ‘political correctness’ that stopped people identifying the problem because the gangs were South Asian. So why did everybody collude with the paedophile gang that operated in north Wales then? They weren’t Asian. What about the paedophile gangs that were in operation in Islington and Lambeth at the same time? They weren’t Asian either. There was a huge cover up at the highest levels in all these cases. The running theme is not Asian gangs and white girls – it is organised crime wreaking havoc in children’s services and the whole statutory sector refusing to stop it. But as explained in previous posts, a substantial machinery that had become completely corrupted is in place – the police, the NHS, the CPS, lawyers and judges, all the way up to the political class, even at the level of the House of Lords. A lot of people and institutions would come crashing down if anyone actually admitted to what was happening.

Some years ago I went to a lecture on the theme of citizenship by the sociologist Professor Colin Crouch. It was a really brilliant but terrifying lecture. He was talking about citizenship rights and how global corporations of the sort that Rupert Murdoch owns were now trying to legally construct themselves as ‘citizens’ in order to gain ‘citizenship rights’. He stated that they were using the same lawyers that advise Gov’ts to do this and that one day they would succeed in gaining those ‘rights’ and then we’ll all really be in trouble. I believe that a parallel nightmare scenario has developed in the UK ‘care’ system. The laws that were originally formulated to protect those in ‘care’ are now being ruthlessly used by those who know that the ‘care services’ are riddled with abuse and crime. For example the Court of Protection – there has been case after case where vulnerable people under the Court of Protection have been grossly abused or have even died. Nothing can be published about any of it. Even by the closest relatives of those who have died. Some people have been imprisoned because they have tried to publicise that a relative was abused whilst under the Court of Protection. Other vulnerable people have been detained in hospital against their will for years under the Court of Protection. Again, nothing can be published about these cases. A number of these cases seem to have arisen when families have complained that the vulnerable person has been abused whilst in some other ‘care’ setting. But look at who is running the legal system – previous posts of mine have named lawyers and judges who were fully complicit with the wrongdoing in the north Wales children’s and mental health services. Including Sir Robert Francis QC – who led the ‘Freedom To Speak Up Review’ into whistleblowing, which did not lead to any protection for whistleblowers. Of course they’re still getting sacked, Robert Francis has made sure of that. In much the same vein, if we have a care system shot through with abuse and corruption, whoever would want a well-educated social worker who was a critical thinker and could cut through the bullshit? Let alone one who understood what ‘anti-oppressive practice’ actually meant. Of course the Independent Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse is falling apart with successive Chairs resigning and lawyers walking out. Everyone involved has achieved seniority in a field which for at least the last thirty years has been infiltrated by paedophile gangs – they won’t all be child abusers themselves but they all will definitely have had to turn a blind eye to some pretty horrific things on their way up the greasy pole. And the people who wrote their references when they applied for promotion will have been in exactly the same position. And anyway they’ll all be after a gong or a seat in the Lords themselves now and you don’t get those by exposing people in high places. The price for doing that sort of thing has always been rather steep. When I was still living in north Wales I knew a lady who, when she heard that I was investigating abuse in the mental health and children’s services, asked me over for tea. She revealed that she was a former headmistress and she and her husband had fostered children. One of the girls had told her that she had been abused whilst in care. This lady called the police. The foster daughter was removed from her care immediately and she never saw her again. Days later her husband was arrested and charged with abusing the girl himself, after the social services who had been responsible for running the home where the girl alleged that she was abused made allegations about him. He was imprisoned. When he finally got out of prison they moved to north Wales to get away from the people who had made false allegations about him. The place where all the high drama had occurred was Stafford and this all happened back in the 80s. Stafford children’s services were named in a high profile scandal shortly after this lady’s husband was jailed, the so-called ‘pin down’ scandal, where it was revealed that children in ‘care’ in the ‘children’s homes’ were being subjected to physical and emotional abuse. There was never any investigation into the circumstances of this lady’s husband’s imprisonment. Remember – the reason why children have to be sent hundreds of miles away from their homes is that there’s a shortage of foster parents…
