I am reading Rhodri Morgan’s 2017 memoir at the moment, ‘Rhodri, A Political Life In Wales And Westminster’ – and what a mine of info it is with regard to the incestuous cesspit of nepotism and corruption that is the south Wales Labour Party. I had always heard rumours about this, but I’ve seen corruption and nepotism at work in so many domains that I took the view that the south Wales Labour Party was probably no worse than many other fields. It might not be, but from Rhodri’s account alone there is – or was – quite enough to make the uninitiated stand back, draw breath and exclaim ‘so THAT was how the drunken meathead Rhodri/Neil/Ron (one can insert a number of possible names in here) ended up as an MP’. I will be using Rhodri’s rich seam of ore for a series of blogs posts soon, but I was so struck by a few pieces of information about those who have represented the seat of Cardiff North that I thought I’d write this post whilst I work on a few others that I have in the pipeline.
The constituency of Cardiff North seems to have had a long and glorious tradition of being represented by paedophiles’ friends. It is as obvious as the same tradition prevailing in Ynys Mon (Anglesey), Denbigh or Conwy. The essential ingredient to bring about such a situation is that the constituency must be a marginal/swing seat, but it is also crucial that the constituency must contain a good number of people who earn their living by being paedophiles’ friends themselves, rather than being victims or potential victims of the paedophiles’ friends. I know a bit about Ynys Mon, Conwy and Denbigh, but I know nuzzing about Cardiff North, so I’ve just looked it up.
The constituency was created in 1950 and the covers the residential quarter of Cardiff – over half of northern Cardiff consists of owner-occupied housing, with higher numbers of members of the middle class population than other areas. Historically the constituency has mainly elected Conservative MPs, but with new housing development Welsh Labour has over-turned the nominal majority more recently, turning the seat into a national target swing-constituency. From 1950 until 1983, the constituency included Cardiff City Centre, but since 1983 that has been part of Cardiff Central. At present the constituency includes the wards of Heath, Llandaff North, Rhiwbina and Whitchurch. One thing that I do know about some of these places are that they are popular residential areas with Top Doctors and their associates…
So let us look at the people who have been elected as MPs for Cardiff North.
The first person who held the seat between 1950-59 was a Conservative, Sir David Treharne Llewellyn. He served under Winston Churchill as a junior Minister for the Home Dept, 1951-52. Llewellyn was the third son of the Welsh industrialist Sir David Lewellyn, 1st Baronet. Sir Rhys and Sir Harry Llewellyn were his elder brothers.
Sir Harry Llewellyn and his horse Foxhunter achieved fame in show jumping circles, but Sir Harry also achieved fame for producing two notorious sons, Dai and Roddy. Dai was a deluded old bugger who lived beyond his means because he thought that paying for your goods was just a thing that Little People did. At one point he was living in a terrace in south Wales which he described as his ‘country seat’. Dai was very offensive about his neighbours who had a good laugh at his expense when it became public knowledge that this snobbish old git was claiming benefits. Roddy was of course Princess Margaret’s toyboy and spent many enjoyable years hippying around on Mustique with her, whilst Margaret wafted around in a kaftan like some sort of parody of Elizabeth Taylor. So high was public feeling regarding Princess Margaret and Roddy in the late 1970s that the Royal Family became quite worried about the damage to their image that Margaret and Roddy were inflicting, particularly when it became clear that some of the Mustique crowd with whom they were hanging out enjoyed recreational chemicals to excess. The most notorious of the bunch, Charlie Tennant, was a heroin addict who died in 1996 as a result of hepatitis C which he contracted from a dirty needle. Margaret’s husband Lord Snowdon’s adventures and links with paedophiles’ friends in north Wales were even more interesting but never made the press. For further details, see posts ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’ and ’95 Glorious Years’.
It was the excesses of Margaret, Roddy and the gang which prompted the Royal Family to arrange a marriage between Prince Charles and a teenaged sloane – who had passed the virginity and fertility tests with flying colours before the engagement was announced – on the grounds that nothing could possibly go wrong…
Sir David Llewellyn married Joan Williams, who was head of the wartime Cabinet Office cypher office.
Cardiff North was then held by Donald Box, 1959-66, again for the Conservatives. Box was educated at he Cathedral School Llandaff, St John’s School in Pinner and Harrow County School for Boys. Box was a member of the Cardiff Stock Exchange and a partner in Lyddon & Company, stockbrokers. When he lost the seat, he returned to Lyddon & Company. From 1973 he was a member of the London Stock Exchange when regional members were allowed. Box became a Director of N.M. Rothschild in 1988.
Box was a strong opponent of strikes, championed the cause of business and of redevelopment of Cardiff’s docklands and blamed any failures on the left. In line with his constituency, in which a large proportion of the property was leasehold, he supported leasehold reform. I was intrigued to read that Box criticised ‘excessive welfare payments’. Whilst Box was in office, huge swathes of Wales – although perhaps not Cardiff North – were in quite serious poverty with many people living in very poor housing. Outside bogs were still absolutely standard in many areas. I wonder who Box thought were in receipt of the ‘excessive welfare payments’ which vexed him.
The Welsh Office was established in April 1965 whilst Box was an MP and as described in previous posts was rotten from the beginning. Not that Donald Box will have concerned himself with that.
Ted Rowlands – later Lord Rowlands – held Cardiff North for Labour, 1966-70. Rowlands attended Rhondda Grammar School, Wirral Grammar School and then King’s College London.
Whilst Rowlands was MP for Cardiff North, he served as a junior Minister in the Welsh Office, 1969-70, under Secretary of State George Thomas – who was known to be molesting children and teenagers (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’). Not only was Thomas molesting young people himself, but he was concealing the wrongdoing of Dafydd and the paedophiles in north Wales (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’).
It was while Rowlands was in the Welsh Office that John Allen – who set up the Bryn Alyn Community in 1968 – found that he could really do business in north Wales. I received a very helpful e mail yesterday explaining that once John Allen arrived in north Wales, he was very soon followed by a number of other people who seemed to be in possession of the funds to purchase remote old buildings and turn them into children’s homes/residential schools, where children were abused and trafficked, just as they were at Bryn Alyn. I am currently following up a few of the names that have been given to me to see if I can work out who it was who had the idea for establishing a massive sex trafficking ring in north Wales. Dr Dafydd Alun Jones will know whom I suspect came up with the business plan.
Ted Rowlands lost Cardiff North at the 1970 General Election but was elected for Methyr Tydfil at the 1970 by-election – he held the seat until 1983, when he was returned for the new constituency of Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, a seat which he held until 2001.
Rowlands was a junior Minister in the Welsh Office again, 1974-75, under Secretaries of State Peter Thomas and Lord John Morris – who carried on concealing the wrongdoing of Dafydd and the paedophiles, which had by now reached very serious levels (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’). Of course everyone was also keeping quiet about George Thomas.
Rowlands was appointed to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1975 and from 1976-79 under Callaghan’s premiership, he was Minister of State at the FCO.
In a debate on the Falklands War in April 1982, Rowlands revealed that the British were reading Argentine diplomatic traffic. Rowlands was criticised (but not prosecuted as per parliamentary privilege) for revealing this intelligence source – the likely result of his disclosure was that the Argentinians would secure their systems and the intelligence would dry up.
- Hugh Bincheno, in his book ‘Razor’s Edge: The Unofficial History of the Falklands War’ stated that: ‘Argentine embassies used the same, top of the line, Swiss Crypto AG machine systems as their armed forces, so this was the precise equivalent of publicly announcing, during World War II, that the Allies had broken the Enigma system used by the Nazis. It is unlikely we shall ever know how much damage this betrayal of trust did to national security, but if anyone else than an MP had given the information to the Argentines they would have been prosecuted’.
Lord Ted sat on the Richard Commission with a few other paedophiles’ friends, which reported in 2004 on whether the National Assembly for Wales should have additional legislative powers.
Cardiff North Was held for the Tories, 1970-74, by Michael Roberts. Roberts was the first Headteacher of the Bishop of Llandaff Church in Wales High School when it opened in 1963. From Feb 1974-83 he was the Tory MP for Cardiff North West. When Thatcher was elected as PM in 1979, Roberts became a junior Welsh Office minister under Secretary of State Nicholas Edwards. So Roberts was in post whilst Edwards concealed the ever mounting heap of crap in north Wales – which by then included the unlawful arrest and imprisonment of Mary Wynch by Dafydd, as well as the fleecing of Mary of her property (see posts ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’). It was on Edwards’s watch when, as all hell broke loose in north Wales, Dafydd was joined by Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), a nice young doctor who had been working in Manchester (see post ‘The Mentor’) – whom it transpired was as mad and as abusive as Dafydd, but a lot more plausible.
Tony Francis had trained in Cardiff where as a student he had known Neil Kinnock. After qualifying, Francis worked in Cardiff in the first half of the 1970s with the dreadful Professor Kenneth Rawnsley, a man who from the mid-1960s onwards spent decades concealing the criminality of Dafydd and the paedophiles (see post ‘ The Discovery Of A Whole New Galaxy’).
In the 1970s children who had been in care in north Wales started to be found dead. Nicholas Edwards and the Welsh Office said nothing about this but prioritised the development of Cardiff Bay – which made Edwards and his mates very rich (see post ‘Corruption Bay Special’).
Michael Roberts was taken ill while speaking at the despatch box in the Commons and was pronounced dead, aged 55, on arrival at hospital. Some allege that he died in the Commons but as that is illegal – although I can’t quite work out how it can be illegal to die somewhere – Roberts was declared dead at the hospital.
Ian Grist was the Conservative MP for Cardiff North, Feb 1974-83. Grist was born in Southampton and went to prep school in Broadstairs in Kent, after which he went to Repton School. He studied at Jesus College, Oxford. Grist had joined the Young Conservatives before going to Oxford and at Oxford became Jesus College Conservative Association’s secretary.
Grist’s initial career was as a colonial administrator. In 1960 he went to the Southern Cameroons as a plebiscite officer and in 1961 he moved to Nigeria, working as a manager for the United Africa Company. In 1963 he returned to Britain. On his return he became the Tories’ Welsh political education officer and then worked for the Conservative Research Dept, 1970-1974. It was during those years that Matthew Parris – who also worked in that Dept – alleged that not only was there a senior member of staff in the Conservative Research Dept who used to travel around London on buses propositioning young men, but that every summer a group of staff used to organise a holiday to a place in Italy known as the ‘villa of shame’ and were supplied with ‘boys’ who were ‘always willing’. Where did those willing boys come from and why were they so willing to have sex with a bunch of horrid old men from the Tory Party?
John Allen had ‘business interests’ in Europe and owned a villa in the south of France. He took the boys in his ‘care’ there ‘for holidays’.
Dr Dafydd Alun Jones ‘held clinics’ in Europe, including in the south of France. Dafydd claimed to be a sex therapist.
Elfed Roberts – the corrupt former Chairman of the NW Wales NHS Trust who had been a senior police officer in the North Wales Police but left after a conversation with the Chief Constable about the privileges and perks which Elfed seemed to be enjoying – used to hang out with mates of his from a number of police forces at an hotel in France called Chateau de Cop Choux. God knows what the staff of the Chateau de Cop Choux thought was going on when that lot turned up.
When the Tories took power in 1979 Ian Grist was appointed PPS to Nicholas Edwards, but he resigned in 1981, supposedly to return to focusing on local issues.
In the 1983 General Election Grist stood for the Tories for Cardiff Central rather than for Cardiff North and won. He held Cardiff Central until 1992. In 1987 Thatcher appointed Grist as a junior Minister in the Welsh Office under Welsh Secretaries Peter Walker and then David Hunt. Grist remained in that position until he was sacked by John Major in 1990.
At the Welsh Office Grist was responsible for health. So Grist was one of those in the Welsh Office who completely failed to deal with Gwynedd Health Authority as it drowned in debt and chaos and was the subject of questions in the House (see post ‘A Visit To Gwynedd Archives’), yet at the same time aggressively refused to deal with the concerns raised by Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I regarding serious criminal activity in the mental health services and social services in north Wales. Grist worked in the Welsh Office whilst they employed corrupt lawyer Andrew Park who conspired with Tony Francis, Dafydd and the paedophile gang to frame me for criminal offences and when Professor Robert Owen the corrupt Medical Ombudsman co-ordinated the 1988 cover-up of the criminal conduct of Dafydd, Tony Francis, Gwynedd Social Services and Clwyd and Gwynedd Health Authorities (see post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’). One of the members of the paedophile gang in north Wales was Sir Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s friend and Tory MP for Chester, who whilst Ian Grist was in office held a number of jobs in Thatcher’s Gov’t and was Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party.
Grist was at the Welsh Office whilst the extraordinary events – including large scale research fraud – involving my former colleagues at the Cancer Research Campaign and Tony Francis’s mate Dr Peter Mcguire which resulted in Prof Tim McElwain’s death occurred (see posts ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK’, ‘Reports Of Death Greatly Exaggerated’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’).
Grist served on the Ministerial Group for alcohol abuse. Which must have been why Dafydd and his charity CAIS were given the remit – and funding – for tacking alcohol abuse in north Wales.
Grist was also responsible for Health when a man who caught the interests of the medical students was employed in the Dept of Physiology at University College Cardiff – Dr Roy Mottram. Dr Mottram was a transvestite and was Publicity Officer for the Beaumont Society. Mottram achieved quite a high profile in the mid-1980s and was given a lot of sympathetic media coverage. Roy Mottram’s official line that he was pleading for greater understanding for transvestites was contradicted by the medical students who alleged that Dr Mottram was doing some rather worrying things which did not receive media coverage.
In Aug 1999 Dr M. T. Haslam wrote an article for Gendys Journal in his capacity as a sex therapist and a Trustee of the Beaumont Society, bemoaning the lack of understanding of gender problems. Haslam made reference to his own work as a sex/gender specialist in a clinic in York in the 1980s. In 2003 Haslam was imprisoned for seven years for raping and indecently assaulting female patients. The assaults had occurred in the 1980s. Haslam and his colleague William Kerr had raped and abused female patients for decades (see post ‘All The Ingredients Of The Scandal’). Complaint after complaint about them had been ignored. A nurse who complained about them was demoted and an academic in Leeds was threatened with the sack if he continued to raise concerns about them. This will sound very familiar to anyone who knows the background of Dafydd Alun Jones.
Dafydd held clinics in Yorkshire and Leeds.
I have a good friend who for many years tried to obtain psychological help for a sexual problem which distressed him but did not involve illegal or dangerous behaviour. My friend was referred to numerous ‘sex therapists’, including some of the highest profile names in mental health. Every one of them was nuts, sexually abusive or running a covert prostitution business. Perhaps there are genuine sex therapists hiding somewhere but in 25 years my friend did not find one, either within the NHS or the private sector.
Grist’s obituary in the Indie stated that ‘it fell to him to deny the links between high unemployment, poor health and suicides and he cannot have been altogether comfortable in doing so’. Grist will have known damn well that the exorbitant suicide rate in north Wales was a direct result of a sex trafficking gang operating within the mental health and child protection services. As far as I could see no-one at all had a problem denying the horror of what was going on – even when it was clear that some of the suicides were highly likely to have been murders.
Grist attacked Welsh devolution, local government reorganisation in Glamorgan, Neil Kinnock and those attending pop festivals (‘alternative society creeps and freebooters’). He attacked water privatisation and the poll tax for being ‘regressive by nature’ and a ‘legal nightmare’. Grist also opposed cuts in mortgage payments for the unemployed.
Grist represented the Welsh Office on the Cabinet Committee dealing with urban regeneration – so he was probably one of those encouraging the bonanza for already very rich people which was the development of Corruption Bay.
As a pro-European Grist supported Michael Heseltine to succeed Thatcher as leader, as had Welsh Secretary David Hunt and his deputy Wynn Griffiths. When Major sacked Grist, Grist commented that ‘I was the most sackable of the three leaves on the tree’.
Ken Clarke described Grist as a ‘useful colleague to have, helpful in a quiet way’. Clarke concealed the mountain of crap in north Wales throughout the years that he was in the Dept of Health (see post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’).
In 1983 Ron Davies was elected as the Labour MP for Caerphilly. No-one mentioned a word about Ron’s activities re cruising and dogging until he was caught with a male prostitute on Clapham Common in 1998, whereupon a number of people from south Wales stated that ‘everyone knew’ about Ron. Before being elected as an MP, Ron had been an advisor at Mid-Glamorgan Education Authority. In 2001 when drama teacher and S4C scriptwriter/director John Owen killed himself shortly before he was due to stand trial for sexually abusing school pupils, numerous people came forward and maintained that Owen had been the subject of complaints stretching back decades but Mid-Glamorgan Education Authority and others had not acted upon them (see post ‘Yet More Inglorious Bastards’).
In the 1992 General Election Grist lost Cardiff Central to Labour Co-operative candidate Jon Owen Jones.
When Grist lost his seat, David Hunt appointed him as Chairman of the South Glamorgan Health Authority for a four year term. Hansard, June 1990, records a discussion regarding South Glamorgan Health Authority which suggests that South Glamorgan Health Authority was not in a good state at the time. There were very serious problems at the University Hospital Cardiff which eventually erupted in a number of scandals – including allegations of criminal conduct in the mortuary – but the full dreadful horror of events at the University Hospital was never made public. Medical students voted with their feet and that institution has now lost any reputation that it once had.
In June 1990 two Labour MPs – a Rhodri Morgan and an Alun Michael – questioned David Hunt in his capacity as Welsh Secretary over the mess at South Glamorgan Health Authority. Hunt became very irate with Alun Michael and stated that:
‘If we are to have a good working relationship, I do not want to find falling into my hands letters from the National Union of Public Employees instructing the hon. Gentleman to send certain letters. I shall make the letter available to him so that he can show that he is not a puppet on a NUPE string’.
So Alun Michael had a reputation of doing what he was told by NUPE. NUPE was the union which represented many of those accused of the abuse of children in care in the high profile scandals in the 1970s, 80s and 90s – some of those accused of abuse were even NUPE reps (see post ‘I Warn You…’). No wonder Blair was so keen for Alun Michael to become Wales’s First Secretary after Ron Davies was caught with his trousers down on Clapham Common and had to resign – and no wonder that Alun Michael resigned as First Secretary immediately that the whitewash which was the Waterhouse Report was submitted, his job having been done (see post ‘News From Sicily’). Would the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales like to comment on the allegations that he was a running dog for the paedophiles of NUPE?
The other thing recorded in Hansard, June 1990, is the enthusiasm of David Hunt, the Welsh Office Ministers and Rhodri and Alun Michael for the campaign which had been launched by the Kidney Research Unit for Wales Foundation that morning to encourage organ and blood donation. The man behind this campaign was Professor William Asscher, a nephrologist who had previously worked in the University Hospital, Cardiff. By the time that Hunt et al were enthusiastically embracing Asscher’s campaign, Asscher was Dean of St George’s Hospital Medical School – where he was presiding over serious criminal misconduct including the collusion with Dafydd and the paedophiles in north Wales, as well as the collusion with organised crime involving child abuse and drug offences in south London (‘A Galaxy Of Talent’). As well as research fraud (see post ‘I Don’t Believe It!’). I witnessed all this because I was working at St George’s at that very time when Hunt et al were toadying to Asscher….
Asscher’s campaign had been launched in South Glamorgan, but Hansard documents that Hunt and ‘all Welsh Members’ would be meeting ‘representatives of the Kidney Research Unit for Wales Foundation’ ‘outside the House’ to ‘promote their excellent endeavours’.
So Hunt, did you enjoy meeting and doing favours for Asscher – who led a medical school which employed a Professor of Paediatrics who had already been imprisoned for the possession of child porn and who’s mates were still employed at St George’s concealing yet more serious crime?
David Hunt was the MP for the Wirral and then the Wirral West, 1976-97. So he will have known all about the Liverpool branch of Dafydd’s empire (see post ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’). In 1997 Hunt was given a peerage.
Hunt is a lawyer who trained at Bristol University in the mid-1960s. The corrupt GP Dr D.G.E. Wood who was assisting Dafydd and Tony Francis to run the sex trafficking ring in north Wales went to Bristol Medical School at the same time as Hunt was studying law there! Hunt was never an MP in the south west, but in 1973 Lilibet gave him an MBE for ‘political services to the west of England’. Wood’s family lived in the Bristol area – Wood’s father was a Top Doctor as well.
David Hunt was senior partner at the national law firm Beachcroft Wansbroughs (now DAC Beachcroft LLP), 1996- 05. He is now Chairman of the firm’s financial services division and is regarded as a major figure in the world of insurance and financial services.
Lord Hunt – being a lawyer, I presume that you do know how illegal trafficking people for sex is, particularly children? And would you please tell us what happened to the victims of the paedophile gang who were imprisoned in the cellar at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh after you told the world that Denbigh had closed in the summer of 1995 – when you returned as Welsh Secretary for a matter of days before handing the job over to Lord Hague of the Massive Cover-Up? Particularly as Denbigh hadn’t closed at all…
Prior to his election as an MP, Gwilym served on Cardiff City Council. Elected at 21 years old, Gwilym is believed to be the youngest ever member of the Council. He became Deputy Leader and Acting Leader of the Conservative Group. So what talents did Gwilym have that were spotted at such a tender age?
Gwilym is an active Freemason.
Gwilym lost Cardiff North at the 1997 General Election – it was of course the year of Blair’s landslide. Although Blair was confident that Labour would win the election, Blair could have thought that he’d have a fight on his hands for Cardiff North – who on earth could beat Gwilym Jones and his Masonic network in terms of their credentials as a paedophiles’ friend?
Easy – Julie Morgan, Rhodri’s wife! Not only was Julie married to Rhodri, who had been a reliable paedophiles’ friend for years – including one who kept his mouth shut about Ron Davies, whom Blair appointed Welsh Secretary upon becoming PM – but Julie was a social worker with Barry Social Services and served as Assistant Director of Barnardo’s. Barnardo’s had been involved in a number of child abuse scandals and was linked with the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Julie went back as far as the heyday of paedophilia as well -she was a local councillor on South Glamorgan County Council, 1985-97 and was a Cardiff City Councillor from 1995. During those years there were major investigations into the abuse of children in care in south Wales.
Julie was born in Cardiff and was educated at Dinas Powys Primary School and Howell’s School, Llandaff. She then attended King’s College London. Julie was well-networked with the paedophiles’ friends of south Wales before she had graduated. Julie campaigned for Jim Callaghan before she had even begun her first term at King’s. She campaigned for the smug old bastard alongside the Windbag Kinnock, Glenys Kinnock – whose mum and dad in Holyhead were big mates with Lord Cledwyn, who’d spent years assisting Dafydd and the paedophiles (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’) – and her future husband, Rhodri. Rhodri and the Windbag shared a house when they were young. Can you image the scenes inside… Julie also studied at the University of Manchester and did a postgraduate course in social administration at University College, Cardiff.
Julie’s fundamental beliefs include the equal treatment of children in respect of protection from violence. Julie is a mate of Harriet’s and Julie and Harriet having been involved in the field of women’s rights, promoting the introduction of all-women shortlists for political parties. In 1997 Julie was selected on an all-women shortlist. Julie is also interested in the welfare of children, black and minority ethnic and disabled people. She is the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Children in Wales and is a member of numerous other APPGs, including those on Sex Equality and Compassion in Dying. Within the PLP, she is an active member of the Women’s Group.
Obviously Julie has to fit all these commitments in around her over-riding duties to paedophile gangs and those who facilitate them.
Between 16 December 2009 and 12 March 2010, Julie steered the Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill (a private members’ bill) through the House of Commons. Presumably the regulation of sunbeds is one of Julie’s Fundamental Beliefs.
In 2010, Julie lost Cardiff North to Tory Jonathan Evans. The proposed sunbeds regulation was obviously not sufficient to win over the hearts of the affluent middle classes of Cardiff North who are employed in the failing NHS and welfare services.
Someone must have forgiven Julie though, because in May 2011 she was elected as AM for Cardiff North, as part of the influx of paedophiles’ friends into the National Assembly when people just wouldn’t shut up about re-opening the investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal (see post ‘The Battle Of The Cowshed’).
Jonathan Evans held Cardiff North for the Tories, 2010-15. Born in Tredegar, Evans was educated at Lewis School, Pengam, Howardian High School, Cardiff and the Law Society’s College of Law in Guildford and London. Evans trained with solicitors Abse and Cohen in Cardiff from 1968, joined the firm upon qualification in 1973 and became a Managing Partner in 1987. Leo Abse was a big mate of George Thomas and for years protected Thomas when Thomas was challenged over his sexual offending – Abse’s services for Thomas included paying complainants off and threatening to have others imprisoned (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’). Abse was investigated for historic sex offences against children himself.
Evans has been involved in politics for years. He first tried to get elected in 1987, but didn’t succeed until 1992, when he was elected as the Tory MP for Brecon and Radnorshire. Evans was a junior Minister in John Major’s Gov’t, serving as Parliamentary Secretary to the Lord Chancellor; Corporate Affairs Minister at the DTI; and then serving under William Hague as a junior Minister in the Welsh Office, 1996-97 – just as Hague organised the Waterhouse Inquiry. Evans lost the seat in 1997.
In 1999 Evans was elected as MEP for Wales and he was re-elected at the 2004 Euro-elections. He was Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament from 2001 until 2004. From 2004 to 2009 Evans was President of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the U.S. Congress and Co-Chairman of the Transatlantic Legislators Dialogue. Following the decision of President Bush and Angela Merkel to set up the Transatlantic Economic Council, Evans became Chairman of the Council’s Advisory Board. In August 2007, he was selected to fight Cardiff North in the 2010 General Election. It was at about that time that all parties were planning the influx of paedophiles’ friends into Welsh Commons seats and into the National Assembly…
Evans was Chairman of the Association of Conservative Clubs, 2006-15 and Chairman of the Political Committee of the Carlton Club, 2013-15. He was Chairman of the Welsh Conservative Party, 2014-2017.
In 1997, Evans was appointed Director of Insurance in the City of London office of Eversheds and remained a consultant to the practice until 2009. Evans has also acted as a consultant on London Insurance market issues to several major North American insurance corporations.
He is a former Deputy Chairman of the Welsh Housing Corporation (Tai Cymru). A number of paedophiles’ friends have been and are involved with the housing associations in north Wales and Adam Peat, the former Public Ombudsman for Wales, was Chief Executive of Tai Cymru, 1989-98. Whilst Ombudsman, Adam Peat refused to investigate serious complaints against the NHS in north Wales including those concerning criminal conduct on the part of NHS staff which was linked to the sex trafficking ring. For full details of Adam Peat’s wrongdoing, see post ‘Yet More Crime And Punishment’. After retiring as Ombudsman in April 2008, Peat became Chair of Magna Housing, a housing association in the West Country. Since I wrote ‘Yet More Crime And Punishment’ Adam has disappeared from the internet…
In 1995 Jonathan Evans was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. From 1999-09 he served on the Boards of NFU Mutual and Country Mutual Insurance Brokers. Evans was Chairman of Pearl Group Limited, 2005-09, and non-executive Chairman of the Phoenix Life Insurance companies, 2009-16.
After stepping down as MP for Cardiff North in April 2015, Evans became non-executive chairman of Allied World Managing Agency. He also joined the Board of Directors of Allied World Assurance Company Holdings.
In September 2015 Evans became a Freeman of the City of London.
Whilst Evans was MP for Cardiff North, the demands that Sir Ronald Waterhouse’s cover-up of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal be re-investigated resulted in the 2016 Macur Review, which was so heavily redacted that no-one knew what it actually said.
A Roman Catholic, Evans is a leading pro-life campaigner for the SPUC and launched their Welsh office in Cardiff in the 1990s. He has been a Vice President of the Catholic Union of Great Britain since 2001.
Cardiff North was held by Tory Craig Williams, 2015-17. Williams was a Councillor on City of Cardiff Council from 2008. In June 2017 Williams lost the seat to Labour’s Anna McMorrin.
Anna McMorrin grew up near Brecon and joined the Labour Party as a student. She graduated from the University of Southampton in 1994 and then undertook a post-graduate diploma in journalism at Cardiff University.
McMorrin subsequently worked in PR and communications. She was a part-time communications officer for the Labour Party, 1996-97 and worked for public affairs consultancy Hill and Knowlton. In 2006, McMorrin was appointed Campaigns and Communications Director for Friends of the Earth Cymru. In 2008, she joined the Welsh Gov’t as a Spad, working with Ministers Jane Hutt, John Griffiths and Alun Davies.
McMorrin left the Welsh Gov’t to become Director of Llais Ltd and joining Invicta Public Affairs in October 2016.
In 2014, McMorrin moved from her position in the Welsh Gov’t Ministry for Natural Resources after starting a relationship with then Minister, Alun Davies, with whom she now lives.
McMorrin is a member of UNISON and GMB, LGBT Labour, Labour Women’s Network and the Cooperative Party.
So Anna is a National Assembly insider and lives in the constituency in which so many of her colleagues past and present live. More importantly she has been at the centre of the toxic bubble which allegedly caused the suicide of Carl Sergeant. McMorrin also advised Jane Hutt – surely that alone suggests that she’s not going to make a particularly useful contribution to the Assembly.
So that’s the lowdown on how one wins the seat of Cardiff North – one represents the interests of many of those who are responsible for the very big mess which Wales has found itself in for so many years.
Of course since 1999, there has also been an AM for Cardiff North, which enabled dear old Julie Morgan to bag another job representing the paedophiles’ friends after she’d lost her job as an MP.
Julie won the Assembly seat of Cardiff North in 2011 by beating the previous incumbent, Tory Jonathan Morgan who had held the seat since 2007. Prior to that, Jonathan was the AM for South Wales Central, 1999-07.
Jonathan Morgan was born in north Cardiff, was educated at the Bishop of Llandaff Church in Wales High School, Cardiff and did his first degree and MSc at the University of Wales, Cardiff.
Before election to the Welsh Assembly, Morgan was European Officer for Coleg Glan Hafren. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. He has also been a Governor at two Cardiff Schools was a pupil barrister at 9 Park Place from September 2004.
Jonathan Morgan is a member of a well-known Tory family who have for many years been at the centre of the rot in Cardiff. His grandfather Winston Griffiths was the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cardiff and his great-uncle Brian Griffiths was Deputy Lord Mayor and Lord Mayor. Morgan’s mother Linda has also spent years as a Cardiff Councillor. Jonathan and his relatives will know just about everything about the entrenched corruption in Cardiff, including the scam that was Corruption Bay, the serious problems in the University Hospital in Cardiff and of course the allegations of the abuse of children in care and the activities of George Thomas.
The chambers at which Jonathan was a pupil boasts Winston Roddick QC among its senior barristers. The Winston from Caernarfon, who was a Plod in Liverpool before he become a barrister and spent a whole career keeping schtum about the paedophile gangs and associated criminality which were wrecking Wales – the Winston who was Counsel General for Wales at the time of the publication of the Waterhouse Report. ‘Masonic handshake?Mind how you go sir, have a safe journey’.
Jonathan of the Conservative Morgan dynasty became the AM for Cardiff North in 2007 after the previous Labour AM, Sue Essex, stood down. I can’t find any details of the reasons why Essex stood down, but the references to the ‘best decision for her family’ and the warm words from Rhodri Morgan praising her ‘massive contribution’ to Cardiff and the Assembly suggests that she left under a substantial cloud.
Sue Essex was elected as AM for Cardiff North in 1999, upon the formation of the National Assembly. She was born in Cromford, brought up in Tottenham and went to Leicester University whilst it was crawling with people colluding with the paedophile gang in Leicestershire which numbered among its members Frank Beck and Greville Janner (see post ‘Radical Leicester And Some Other Free Radicals’). She moved to south Wales in 1971. Essex worked as a Researcher for the EOC (Equal Opportunities Commission), 1985-87, another body which acted as a magnet to paedophiles’ friends. Essex was a Planner for Mid-Glamorgan County Council, 1987-91 and then lectured in Planning at the University of Wales, Cardiff, 1991-99. She was employed as a Planner at the London Borough of Waltham Forest, 1996-97 and for Essex County Council, 1997-99.
Essex was a Cardiff City Councillor, 1983-95 and Deputy Leader/Leader Cardiff City Council, 1995-99.
She was the Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Finance, Local Government and Public Services , 2003-07.
Thus Sue Essex was at the centre of failure, corruption and complete denial for many years and would also have had the dirt on everyone else involved. No wonder Rhodri believed that she’d made a ‘massive contribution’.
