Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK

The day before yesterday Brave Tessa Jowell made an appearance in the Lords and gave ‘an emotional speech’ about her journey with ‘brain cancer’. Theresa May turned up to give Tessa a ‘warm hug’ on camera and spout on about Tessa being ‘inspirational’ (what else could Tessa possibly be?). Media reports stressed that Theresa and Tessa had sunk their political differences for the occasion. If only they had sunk their political difference decades ago when Tessa worked as a childcare officer for Lambeth Borough Council (whilst a paedophile ring was operating in the children’s homes of that Council) and then as a psychiatric social worker at the Maudsley, where the victims of and witnesses to the Lambeth paedophile ring were abused all over again and whilst Theresa was sitting as a Councillor in Merton, keeping quiet about the paedophile ring which was being facilitated on her patch by St George’s Hospital Medical School. The paedophile gang operating in Lambeth and the one being facilitated by St George’s were both connected to Dafydd and the paedophile gang in north Wales.

These two inspirational women were met with a round of applause from the House! But then so was Greville Janner when he appeared in the Commons after having been arrested, questioned about abusing children in Leicestershire and then released without charge.

Theresa and Tessa have put their heads together and are Campaigning after they discovered that ‘brain cancer’ has a very low survival rate. I have stressed previously on this blog that one possible reason for this is the rampant research fraud that has existed for a very long time in cancer research – I witnessed it when I worked for the CRC (Cancer Research Campaign) in 1987 (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’). ‘Breakthroughs’ are claimed which are no such thing – but if the researchers maintain that a breakthrough has been made, the purse strings of funding bodies will be loosened. Drugs are ruthlessly marketed which may not be much better than others already available and data is manipulated or sometimes just fabricated. I am not suggesting that no advances are ever made – the treatment of childhood leukaemia was revolutionised and what was once usually fatal now has a much better prognosis. But cancer research is absolutely not about dedicated geniuses selflessly working for the greater good, although no-one is told that when pink ribbons and yellow daffodils are sported or women are running races for charity wearing pink bras.

My post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’ discussed the misconduct and malpractice at Hammersmith Hospital/Royal Postgraduate Medical School evident in the mid-1980s and my post ‘I Don’t Believe It!’ discussed what I believe was a major fraud perpetrated years later by Dame Julia Polak, who was the person with the worst reputation for dishonesty and ruthlessness when I was at Hammersmith. Hammersmith/RPMS was considered to be one the leading institutions for cancer research at the time and is now part of the grand and indeed grandiose Imperial College – another world leader in terms of medical research. The Dean of RPMS (Royal Postgraduate Medical School) when much skulduggery was happening was Prof Nicholas Wright. Nick Wright later became Sir Nicholas, Deputy Principal of the Imperial College School of Medicine in 1998. He was appointed as Warden of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2001. He is also Head of the Histopathology Unit at CR UK (Cancer Research (UK) Ltd).

Nick Wright began his career at Durham University and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne School of Medicine – which was where some of those who joined Dafydd and the paedophiles in north Wales had worked previously (see post ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection’). The appalling Lord John Walton who really was Mr Newcastle Medical School provided a highly effective umbrella for Dafydd and the paedophile gang for many years (see post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’).

In the late 1980s there was someone working in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne University – unfortunately I cannot remember his name – who was a good friend of Nick Wright’s and whose research into lung cancer was funded by the tobacco industry. This man assured me that the source of his funding would not allow him to be influenced at all, but considering what his friends at Hammersmith/RPMS were doing whilst funded by organisations with far fewer reasons to influence research outcomes, I didn’t quite believe everything that this man told me.

Four years after I left St George’s Hospital Medical School Malcolm Pearce, my former boss, was struck off for committing what is now described as the biggest medical research fraud in history. The Head of Dept Professor Geoffrey Chamberlain was involved as well and his name was on the paper but he did not face any disciplinary action at all – although the scandal was said to have cost Chamberlain a knighthood and he had to resign as President of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (see post ‘I Don’t Believe It!’). I have spent many years wondering why Pearce was thrown to the wolves whilst Chamberlain’s bacon was saved. I thought that the most likely explanation was that Malcolm had fallen out with his colleagues – that is virtually the only factor that leads to a Top Doctor being struck off. Furthermore Chamberlain was in a more powerful position and had a more powerful network.

A suggestion has been made to me however that Chamberlain may have had assistance from an unlikely quarter. There used to be someone working for Chamberlain in the fertility lab at St George’s called Deb Everard. She was massively problematic, abusive to other staff and patients and there were many demands from numerous people for her dismissal. Chamberlain protected her through thick and thin and Everard used to boast about this. There was an attempt to discipline her but she used the full force of the MSF union – which was ironic because Everard was a Tory Councillor on Edmonton Council and spent much of her time as a Councillor complaining about the unions protecting the jobs of the labouring classes in Edmonton. MSF saved her neck, although they hated her and she hated them. Everard then had a relationship with a union boss from another part of London and they had a baby together. I didn’t know this man, I only ever glimpsed him a couple of times, but I knew the MSF reps in St George’s and I knew that they were corrupt and concealing serious wrongdoing in the hospital. They will have known that the institution was colluding with serious organised crime, including child abuse and drug offences.

The Pearce-Chamberlain scandal blew up in 1993. At the same time as the allegations that a paedophile ring involving high profile politicians was operating in north Wales. John Major was in Gov’t and was busting a gut to conceal it all. There were a lot of Tory consultants at St George’s, but Chamberlain wasn’t one of them. I don’t know whether Chamberlain was a Labour supporter or one of Dr Death’s followers like David Hole – the corrupt MSF rep who worked for Chamberlain – but Chamberlain used to take the piss out of his Tory colleagues and comment that it wasn’t possible to be a gentleman and a Tory. Chamberlain was friendly with Wendy Savage who was definitely a Labour supporter.  Chamberlain was the sort of elite pinko Top Doctor that the Tories really didn’t like and there won’t have been any shortage of people wanting to throw him to the wolves along with Pearce. I’m wondering if Deb Everard repaid Chamberlain for his many years of protection and used her Tory connections to save him? It would be quite easy to do – I was screwed over whilst working at St George’s because I kept raising concerns about what was happening in north Wales. The wrongdoing that was being concealed was so serious and involved at least one Tory MP – Sir Peter Morrison – abusing children, so John Major wouldn’t have to be persuaded too hard to save Chamberlain in return for the lid being kept on that. Morrison was also a friend of Thatcher and his sister was Lady-in-Waiting to HM the Queen. A great many people pushed the boat out on many occasions to keep Morrison out of the courts.

The Secretary of State for Health in 1993 was Virginia Bottomley – a former psychiatric social worker and the mother of a junior doctor. The Secretary of State for Wales until May 1993 was David Hunt and after that John Redwood. They both knew about Dafydd and the paedophiles – Hunt had been directly involved in concealing the matter since he had been a junior Minister in the Welsh Office in the late 1980s.

Chamberlain was also very friendly with his highest profile celebrity private patient, a big name in light entertainment (she was the reason for the success of LWT in the 1990s) – this celeb was a well-known Conservative. That will have helped him.

In 2004 it was revealed in the media that after he was struck off Malcolm Pearce worked as a paralegal for medical negligence firms.

Malcolm was struck off in the second week of June 1995. Brown was forced out of his job at Aston University – run by Thatcher’s favourite Vice Chancellor, Sir Frederick Crawford – in July 1995. On July 13 1995 Sir Peter Morrison was found dead at his home in London. The world was told that the North Wales Hospital Denbigh closed down in June-July 1995. It didn’t – one ward was kept open, but information regarding this was not publicised. John Redwood stepped down as Secretary of State for Wales on June 26 1995 and was replaced by the paedophiles’ old friend David Hunt. Hunt remained in post for all of nine days and was then replaced by William Hague. One year later Hague organised the massive cover-up which was the Waterhouse Inquiry. Nicola Davies QC had begun a review of documents regarding the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal the month before Malcolm was struck off in order to decide whether a Public Inquiry was necessary. Nicola decided in December that it wasn’t, but Hague was happy to organise the cover-up regardless in June 1996. Presumably Hague felt on sufficiently safe ground what with Morrison dead, Malcolm Pearce disgraced and struck off and Brown and me stuffed over along with our two friends in the media who knew what had happened to me in north Wales.

Macbeth! Keep washing those hands Hague – not that the blood will ever disappear.

The President of the GMC when Malcolm was struck off was Sir Robert Kilpatrick. Kilpatrick also served as President of the BMA and was Dean of Leicester University Medical School, 1975-89. The Leicester University in which staff were concealing the paedophile ring in Leicestershire (see post ‘Radical Leicester And Some Other Free Radicals’). In 1987 Dr James Earp, a leading forensic psychiatrist in Leicester, concealed the wrongdoing of Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and Gwynedd Social Services (see post ‘An Expert From England’).

Marion Janner is going to be needing that support dog of hers soon and no doubt Rabbi Laura will be given yet more air time on the Today programme to protest her father’s innocence.

All together in Parliament now ‘He was a LOVELY man!’ Don’t forget the round of applause.

Following the Pearce-Chamberlain scandal there was a great deal of huffing and puffing about scientific fraud and much condemnation of Pearce. No-one admitted just how widespread research fraud in medicine is. It was repeatedly stressed that the dreadful Malcolm had ruined the career and reputation of Chamberlain and how shocked everyone was. Er – well when I worked for Malcolm, the malpractice in that Dept was extensive and known to absolutely everyone. Furthermore, all those deeply shocked people as well as Chamberlain MUST have known that Malcolm had not carried out the pioneering operation that he claimed to have performed. Where was the mother and indeed the baby whom Malcolm had claimed to have saved? Where were the other staff who assisted? Which operating theatre was host to the medical miracle? There were a lot more people than Malcolm Pearce in on that fraud.

Chamberlain retained his job at St George’s and in 2000 when he retired he took up a lecturing job at Swansea University, the university dominated by Rhodri Morgan’s friends and relatives (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’). Chamberlain took that job just as the Waterhouse Report was published and when Rhodri became First Minister! Paul Murphy was Secretary of State for Wales at the time. Blair was PM. Chamberlain considered himself to be Welsh – although he was the sort of proud patriot who spent most of his life living in London making jokes about Wales containing nothing but sheep – and his father had been Secretary to the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. The Dean of St George’s at the time of the research fraud was Professor William Asscher, who had spent the first part of his career at the Welsh National School of Medicine at Cardiff. Asscher had been the man who developed the renal service in Wales and was responsible for the arrival of the kidney unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd in the 1980s.

Think things can’t get much worse for you paedophiles’ friends? It can! I have more blog posts under development and there are more names to be revealed…

Following the performance in the Lords yesterday, Theresa announced a ‘£45 million boost’ for brain cancer research – the Gov’t will be working with CR UK! So where’s the dosh going to go then Theresa – a bit to Nick Wright and a bit to The Walton Euthanasia Centre for Those Who Have Spilt The Paedophiles’ Pints (see post ‘These Sharks Are Cap As Well’)? Remember to leave a few million for the many other charlatans who have fabricated their data and screwed over whistleblowers or little things will be hitting each other.

Tessa’s speech included a plea for patients with brain cancer to be allowed to take part in ‘adaptive trials’, whereby they try one treatment and if it doesn’t work within a short time they then change to another treatment. Tessa – cancer treatment doesn’t work like that, it’s not like taking two paracetamol for a headache. It takes quite a long time to ascertain whether a treatment for cancer is successful, which is why everything with regard to cancer outcomes are measured in years. Even if someone has been successfully treated for cancer, they are not considered to be on safe ground until a number of years – how many precisely depends upon the cancer – have passed without a tumour reappearing.

This is why it is so easy for Top Doctors to win their battles with politicians…

The present Chief Exec of CR UK is Sir Harpul Kumar. Kumar attended St John’s College, Cambridge, where he gained a Masters in Engineering and an MA. He subsequently gained an MBA at Harvard Business School where he won the Wolfe Prize. After graduation, Kumar was employed by McKinsey and Co as a healthcare consultant. In 1992 he was appointed Chief Executive of the Papworth Trust. In 1997 Kumar founded Nexan Group, a venture capital-backed medical devices company. He joined Cancer Research Technology Limited as Chief Executive in 2002, became Chief Operating Officer of CR UK in 2004 and CEO in 2007.

Kumar is a trustee of the Francis Crick Institute, the Institute for Cancer Research and Chairman of the Board of the National Cancer Research Institute. He is also chairman of the Cancer Outcomes Strategy Advisory Group in England and Co-chair of the National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative.

I know that I might be underestimating Kumar here, but I can see absolutely nothing in his biography which suggests that he would have the knowledge needed to spot a major research fraud in the field of cancer research yet alone make difficult decisions regarding which research is most worthy of funding. He is an engineering graduate who worked in the financial services. Which is probably how Tessa’s scientifically illiterate suggestion in the Lords was immediately followed by an offer of £45 million quid.

Decisions regarding cancer research funding are being made on the basis of hugs and of inspirational women which is not solid ground.

When I worked at the dreadful Cancer Research Campaign laboratories at Nottingham University which were led by the conman Professor Robert Baldwin – whom we all knew was committing some sort of big research fraud with an American drug company (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’ for details) – every member of staff in the place who was making an escape plan used to remark that they NEVER donated to the CRC because of what Baldwin was doing. This was not just one small lab in one university. Baldwin’s labs employed four ‘senior academics’ – who seemed to be doing nothing at all – and at least thirty researchers. Baldwin did not even have to bid for cash from the CRC – his labs were a permanent fixture and received core funding and a great deal of it. PhD students walked out in despair because it was clear that they were never going to get their PhDs and medical students who arrived to carry out projects thought that the ‘research’ was farcical. Baldwin’s ‘senior academics’ ordered everyone to perform routine repetitive tasks – none of it was original research and as far as we could see it was simply for the purposes of giving the pretence of activity in the labs, whilst Baldwin and his ‘partners’ in the US drug company fabricated results and pretended that it was based on the data of ground breaking research carried out in the Nottingham labs.

There was a great deal of hilarity in the CRC labs when someone found out that Baldwin had managed to have a fling with a high profile female Professor in the US, who was involved in the fraud as well.

In 1987 animal rights activists were causing a great deal of grief in medical research. The Animal Liberation Front were planting bombs and setting fire to places and not long after this time some animal rights activists began receiving very long prison sentences. The ALF might be surprised to hear this, but a lot of medical researchers who did think that animal work could be justified under some circumstances were also very uncomfortable with the gratuitous animal experimentation that was going on. The places with the  worst reputations were Porton Down – where no-one actually knew what was going on, except that researchers were paid a great deal of money to tempt them to work there – the Royal College of Surgeons who did seriously gruesome things to pigs, the Institute of Psychiatry who did seriously gruesome things to primates and the Huntingdon Institute, whose staff were still squirting things in the eyes of rabbits and dogs and carefully examining the injuries that resulted. The individual with an unrivalled reputation for unnecessary cruelty was Colin Blakemore, who in 2003 was appointed Chief Exec of the MRC.

I would be most interested to know how Nottingham University and the CRC kept Baldwin out of the firing line of the ALF, because what was going on in those labs with animals could never have been justified. There was a woman who had worked as a lab assistant in a school who was not a graduate and who had landed a very junior job at Baldwin’s lab many years previously and had stayed. She had no research knowledge and simply did what one of the ‘senior academics’ told her. He told her to spend her time transplanting tumours into mice. This was actually a very old technique and was certainly not producing any worthwhile knowledge. The school lab assistant obediently sat in the lab day after day with a constant supply of mice and carefully transplanted tumours under the skins of all of them. Then a week or so later she would kill them. Nothing would be done with the dead mice, they’d just be disposed off. There was no data being produced from this ‘research’ or even any pretence at that. I and two medical students with whom I was friendly watched this open mouthed for the whole time that I worked at Baldwin’s labs – I lasted three months before I decided to get the hell out of there.

Baldwin’s labs were not officially part of Nottingham University, it was stressed that they were the ‘Cancer Research Campaign Laboratories’, but they were sited on the Nottingham campus and Nottingham University undoubtedly knew what was going on – or not going on – in those labs. Some of Baldwin’s staff were married to Top Doctors in the Queen’s Medical Centre, others were married to pharmacologists at Boots and others to academics and researchers in Nottingham University. There were also constant complaints to the University from the medical students on placement.

Whilst I witnessed the outrage at Nottingham, the Chancellor was Sir Gordon Hobday. Hobday was Director of the Boots research team that developed ibuprofen who became Chairman of Boots in 1973 . He was Chairman of Central Independent Television, 1981-85 and whilst in post prevented the screening of a series made by Ken Loach which was critical of the trade union movement’s inadequate challenge to Thatcherism. Hobday was Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, 1983–1991.

The Vice-Chancellor at the time was Basil Weedon, an organic chemist who was a consultant to Hoffman-La Roche, Basel, Switzerland, 1955-1978.

Tessa and Theresa might not know their arses from their elbows but Gordon and Basil did and they will have known that Baldwin was not doing what he claimed to be doing. I can only presume that there was collusion with Baldwin’s wrongdoing on the part of both the CRC and Nottingham University.

Baldwin died in 2012 but he’s left one hell of a legacy. Nottingham Trent University boasts a thing called the John van Geest Cancer Centre Trust and according to the website, this glorious Centre has grown from the work of one Professor Robert Baldwin. Baldwin receives the highest praise from one of his proteges, Professor Robert Rees, who is quoted on the website as saying:

‘I spent five happy years working under Professor Robert Baldwin alongside some very talented scientists. He was he first person ever to publish in this area. I came to Nottingham in the 1970s after I had graduated with my doctorate. I became inspired by the whole subject, the working environment and the man himself. There were times I remember being at conferences and virtually all the great minds in science of the time would know him. He could be standing in the middle of a very large conference and the really eminent scientists both in and outside of this area would recognise him. You then realise how well-known this person is and how much he has contributed to world science.’

Here’s the history of the John van Geest Cancer Centre Trust, as supplied by the website:

In 1973 Baldwin was joined at his CRC lab in Nottingham by Robert Rees. In 1977 Robert Rees took up a job as a lecturer at Sheffield Medical School. In 1996 Robert Rees returned to Nottingham to become Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Nottingham Trent University. In 2008 the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre was established after initial funding of £8 million from the John and Lucille Geest Foundation. This was matched by £2.3 from the Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF). It opened with 18 staff members. In 2011 the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre officially opened, housing 35 staff and students. In 2012 – the year of Baldwin’s death – the John and Lucille van Geest Foundation donated a further £8 million to the centre.

Once the crooked old git was dead, the sky was the limit…

In 2013 the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre Trust was established at Nottingham Trent University. This was set up to assure the financial future of the centre and the Trustees included members of NTU’s senior management team. Sue Dewey OBE was appointed as Head of Fundraising and donations from the general public towards the work began to be accepted.

John van Geest was a Dutch businessman who established a business exporting daffodils from the Netherlands to Britain and then expanded into bananas and shipping, which made him a very rich man and obviously one who was duped by Robert Baldwin and Bob Rees.

So Bob Rees remembered Baldwin wowing everyone at conferences and being ‘well-known’ by the world’s finest brains. That’s interesting Bob, because not only did I discover in 1987 that Baldwin was loathed by his own staff and that the shenanigans in his labs were causing much embarrassment and fears that the CRC would be brought into disrepute, but after I left Nottingham I realised that people in other areas of the UK working in cancer research knew that Baldwin was not producing the data that he claimed to be.

In March 1988 I joined another CRC funded research team in the Dept of Biochemistry at the University of Surrey, led by Professor Vincent Marks. Vincent’s brother Dr John Marks was the President of the BMA – it was John Marks with whom Ken Clarke did battle when Clarke was Health Secretary and was concealing the child molesting activities of Sir Peter Morrison and the associated criminality of the Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and the paedophiles (see post ‘Running The Country – And All That Jazz’). Ken Clarke and John Marks really hated each other, but because they were both concealing the same serious organised crime, their war ended in stalemate. John Marks was President of the BMA whilst Tony Francis (Dr X) CC’d the BMA into the letters of his in which he detailed his plans to frame me for serious offences. John Marks was a barrister as well as a Top Doctor.

Vincent Marks knew what had happened to me at the hands of Dafydd and the paedophiles, because I had to take time off to attend the hearing into my complaint – the hearing Chaired by Professor Robert Bluglass, which resulted in Bluglass and Dr Colin Berry concealing Dafydd et al’s wrongdoing (see post ‘Enter Professor Bluglass CBE’). I was never intimidated by Vincent in the same way that I was at St George’s by the dreadful Cathy Wilson et al, but Vincent did offer me kindly advice regarding a referral to a psychiatrist, describing a Dr Michael Browne as being ‘very good’. Michael Browne turned out to be appalling and was the subject of much dissatisfaction in Surrey. A few years after I decided that I certainly wasn’t going to visit him again, Browne was at the centre of a medical scandal involving the death of a young man in prison from serious negligence. See post ‘The BMA At The Root Of Another Mystery?’.

Not only did Vincent Marks know about Dafydd and the paedophiles, but Vincent’s cancer research team – and presumably Vincent himself because the senior members of the team were good mates with him – knew about Baldwin. They told me that they had been at conferences where Baldwin had presented data that he claimed had been produced by his team at Nottingham that was obviously dodgy and when they questioned him about it, he was unable to answer any questions or explain how the data had been produced. I was told that ‘everyone’ knew that Baldwin was up to something questionable and that there was a great deal of anger in the cancer research world because of the millions going into Baldwin’s labs from the CRC.

The people who discussed Baldwin’s fraud with me were Dr Wynne Aherne and Evelyn Piall. I will stress that I never witnessed Wynne, Evelyn or any other member of Vincent Marks’s team at Guildford fabricate or dishonestly manipulate any data at all. But they knew that something was terribly wrong at Baldwin’s empire and as is traditional, no-one blew the whistle. Wynne continued in cancer research for many years – although she may have retired by now – and she continued to receive funding from the CRC and the body into which it evolved, CR UK. Wynne ended up as a Team leader at the Institute of Cancer Research in Surrey and even bagged a prize from CR UK.

Evelyn was unusual for a lab scientist in that she was a sort of society figure who had undertaken a PhD in middle age but did not intend to continue in cancer research, because she was relocating to Paris with her husband Tony, who was the leading civil engineer on Eurodisney which was at the time nearly completed. If Evelyn wanted to have blown the whistle on Baldwin, she certainly could have.

Another member of the team at Guildford was Anthea Hardcastle – who was from Cricieth in north Wales. Anthea’s closest friends were the Principal Biochemist at Ysbyty Gwynedd and his wife. Anthea was never anything but friendly and pleasant to me, but I’m pretty sure that her friends from Ysbyty Gwynedd will have filled her in on matters regarding Dafydd and the paedophiles. Anthea’s friends will definitely have known all about the chaos and criminality in Gwynedd Health Authority. It seems that Anthea has died – there is a justgiving fundraising webpage in her memory. Ironically the funds raised are going to the Institute for Cancer Research.

Another colleague of mine at Guildford was Miguel Godfrey, who was doing his PhD in the same lab as me. I see from my internet search that Miguel is now a leading light in the Freemasons in Guildford, precisely the Mark Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Surrey. It was Miguel who told me that Jimmy Savile was known to the police in Leeds as a paedophile – Miguel told me that many years before Esther et al swore blind that ‘we didn’t know’.

Life is full of surprises though. An even bigger surprise than Miguel’s status as Mr Big in Freemasonry in Guildford is that I have found my name on a journal article which I knew nothing about and even more mysteriously I am listed along with a co-author of whom I had never heard until I found this article a few days ago!

I remember doing the work that had been published in this article which appeared in Biochemical Society Transations, Dec 1, 1989 and I know two of the authors – Wynne and Evelyn. Wynne, Evelyn and I are all listed as being affiliated to the University of Surrey. The article was published some months after I left Surrey, but that’s not unusual, articles are in the pipeline for many months before they are published. I’m a little puzzled though as to why I was never told whilst I was at Surrey that this article had been submitted – because it will have been submitted whilst I was still working at Surrey. I was told about another article that was submitted – for the American Journal of Cancer Research – which wasn’t published until after I left Surrey, but I never heard anything about this one. Furthermore, the mystery woman whose name is on the article did not contribute anything at all to the work that has been published with her name as the fourth author. She did not work at Guildford and her name was never mentioned as a collaborator on the work that we did at Guildford. So who is this person whose name was put on a paper along with mine, although she played no part at all in the work?

Step forward Professor Nicola Curtin, Professor of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics, Northern Institute for Cancer Research, Medical School, University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Professor Curtin, as you are publishing my work under your name without my knowledge, would you like to let us all know whether this was just a one-off or is this your usual practice?

Nicola’s webpage tells us that she has been Professor of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics and has worked in Newcastle since 1982. Nicloa states that she has ‘more than 30 years’ experience in the development and biological evaluation of novel drugs to treat cancer and the development of biomarkers to predict and assess effects’. The work that I did which was published under Nicola’s name concerned developing a radioimmunoassay – so my work has contributed to Nicola’s ‘more than 30 years experience’ in this field. How much experience does Nicola REALLY have??

Nicola states that her ‘major interest is in targeting the DNA damage response’. Ah yes – we’re hearing a lot about that in the media at the moment, the ‘smart drugs’ which will target your very own DNA should you develop cancer. Tell me Nicola, have I done that work as well? Or was that somebody else’s work that you shamelessly plagiarised?

Nicola’s the Team leader for DNA damage response! Can I be a Team leader too Nicola?

The only person whom I was told was involved in the work that I did at Surrey who was not based in our lab at Guildford was Adrian Harris at Oxford. I never met Adrian, but everyone spoke very highly of him, he was popular and well-respected and it was made clear from the beginning of the project that the data would be shared with Adrian. There was one reason in particular why the team at Guildford were keen to continue to work with Adrian – it was because ‘everyone knew’ that Adrian was going to be a big name one day.

Adrian is Professor Adrian Harris, who leads the Hypoxia and Angiogenesis Group at the Department of Oncology, Oxford University. Adrian’s webpage tells us that ‘the focus of the group is on tumour angiogenesis and the role of notch signalling, and hypoxia biology and its regulation’.

That will certainly impress Tessa and Theresa – although they won’t understand a word of it.

Another £45 million is needed immediately! It’s the Race For Life! The victims of the paedophile gang in north Wales were indeed running for their lives, but they were followed wherever they went…

Adrian has recently retired and his retirement was marked by the NHS with the Regional Breast Cancer Academic Day.

Adrian had such a cult following at Surrey that one of the research rabbits was named after him. No, Adrian the rabbit wasn’t the subject of pointless experiments and then slaughtered like the mice in Baldwin’s CRC laboratories were. Adrian was used for raising anti-bodies which meant that every few weeks he was vaccinated and then a small sample of his blood was taken. Adrian was a well loved rabbit, big and floppy and he received many visitors who would take him out of his hutch and cuddle him.

I mentioned previously that Baldwin’s chamber of horrors at Nottingham was never targeted by animal rights activists – however the animals at Surrey were. A load of sheep were liberated to give them a taste of freedom and ended up on the main road at Guildford and were nearly hit by the Porches travelling at high speed. On another occasion the animal house was broken into and the liberators stole a number of animals, one of which was a little yappy incontinent dog. This dog was actually the pet of one of the technicians who kept it in the shed overnight because of its incontinent ways, but the liberators thought that it was a research animal. What was so incredible was that the dog was returned in another night time raid a few days later – it was concluded that the kidnappers had discovered the incontinence problem.

I only lived in Surrey for a year, but when I was there something quite memorable happened. I lived near Haslemere and when I first arrived in Surrey I purchased a mountain bike with the intention of cycling to the railway station and then catching the train into Guildford. I had only had my bike three days or so when I got off the train one day to find that it had disappeared – in broad daylight, at a well-used railway station. My bike had been locked to the railings with a top of the range lock because the bike had cost me a lot of money. The lock was still attached to the railings – my bike had been removed by a very nifty piece of handiwork which had involved just one railing being sliced through most expertly. I was mortified and called the police, who took a look and said that this was a very skilled job and that they thought that my bike must have been targeted by a gang of professional thieves. I didn’t have the money to spend on another bike, but luckily some friendly people in the village gave me lifts to the station. After a few weeks of regularly commuting at set times, I then had an even bigger adventure.

One morning I was walking from Guildford Railway Station to the University via my usual route, which took me along a footpath through a little copse. I was in the middle of the copse when I saw a young man sitting on an upside down supermarket trolley, as though he was waiting for someone or something. It was about 8-30 am so a bit odd. He watched me as I came towards him and carried on watching me as I walked past. I thought that perhaps he was the sort of bloke who was going to try and get into conversation and ask me out or something, but he didn’t. However he did begin following me. He was still very obviously following me when I came out of the copse, so I deliberately took a route across an open field up the hill in full view of some houses. The man turned around and went back into the copse. About an hour later the police arrived at the University, saying that a woman had been raped at about 8-40 in the copse that morning and asked if any of us had any info.

I met with the police and it transpired that the man had followed me and had raped the woman who had come along the path immediately after me, in the copse, once he had given up pursuing me.

I was a witness and later picked the rapist out in an identity parade. The police believed that he had raped and battered another two women in Guildford within the two weeks that he had been staying in the town. The rapist stated his intention to plead not guilty and I subsequently received a letter telling me to turn up to the Old Bailey to give evidence, threatening to arrest me if I didn’t. At the last minute the rapist changed his plea to guilty so in the event I didn’t have to give evidence.

When I lived in the south east of England I gained the impression that it was a rather dangerous place for young women, because the Guildford rapist was not the first lucky escape that I had. When I went to London in Oct 1986 to begin my MSc at RPMS, I initially temporarily stayed at my friends’ flat in Bethnal Green. Then I found a shared house in Harringay, but I used to go over to see my mates at Bethnal Green every weekend. It was in the Christmas holiday of 1986-87 that I was unlawfully arrested and imprisoned in the North Wales Hospital by Dafydd. I have explained in previous posts how Dafydd threatened me before I was released, told me that if I ever came back to north Wales again he’d have me arrested and that he had rung Haringey Social Services to let them know that I was living in their area no less. I was then driven to a railway station by two Angels, literally put on a train to London, told to ‘shut your mouth about DA’ and warned never to go to north Wales again.

I made representation about Dafydd and the paedophiles as soon as I returned to London. My weekly visits to my friends in Bethnal Green continued. But on every occasion that I left the station, I would be followed by a particularly aggressive man who would hurl abuse at me and tell me that he was going to rape me. After the fourth time that I had this experience, I decided that this man probably was quite dangerous, so I started getting off at a different station and walking a different route to my friends place. The aggressive misogynist bastard was particularly memorable because he was always dressed in a cowboy hat and cowboy boots, but the rest of his regalia was black leather – he was mixed race. Of course I told Brown all about it and Brown discovered that a man of this description from the East End had recently been released from prison after serving a hefty sentence for multiple rapes.

I detailed in a previous post how when I put my house up for sale in Bethesda in the early 1990s, I received a cash offer within days from a man in Birmingham who wanted to relocate to north Wales. I was delighted. Unfortunately, when he moved in – I was still living in the same village, so heard all about it – he began sexually harassing my former neighbour as well as other women in the village. It transpired that he was a sex offender from the West Midlands whose family had packed him off to north Wales where his history wasn’t known. He was known to the mental health services and the police in the West Midlands.

I wondered why serious sex offenders were magnetically attracted to me for a long while, until Brown and me discovered the full extent of the wrongdoing of the serious criminal with UK-wide and European connections that is Dafydd. Brown observed that Dafydd had a great deal to do with sex offenders and general nasties and that his business network spread to every place in which I had lived when I wasn’t living in north Wales. Last year when I finally acquired all the NHS documentation concerning me, there were letters in the file between Alun Davies and other senior figures in the north Wales mental health services which overtly discussed which addresses I was living at and detailed the various – illegal – ways that Davies was using to access my home addresses.  Davies even had a contact at St George’s who was intercepting and reading mail that was arriving at the hospital for me in order to find out my home address.

For years it was known that a very serious workplace bullying problem existed in the mental health services in north Wales – the worst offenders were the Arfon Community Mental Health Team. The sickness rate in that team was the highest in Wales. This was partly because Slob Ingham and Tom Harney were lazy drunks who couldn’t be bothered to make it into work even to experience the joy of abusing their patients, but it was also because unsuspecting people who joined the Arfon Team could not face going into work after a few weeks of starting their new jobs. Just before I left north Wales, I was told that one woman had dared to put in a complaint of workplace bullying against Keith Fearns. She went off sick for a long time and when the matter had supposedly been resolved, she returned. She left north Wales two days later, after phoning a friend and telling them that on returning to work, she had been sexually assaulted by a male member of the Arfon Team – whom she refused to name – who told her that this is what happens to grasses.

I am only sad that the grass didn’t grass the whole lot of them up for every serious crime with which they have undoubtedly been involved. Fearns – this sort of gangland stuff is the reason why I decided to write this blog.

Now Dafydd, do you happen to know who the lunatic in fancy dress in Bethnal Green was or indeed the man who turned up in Guildford shortly after I did and who violently raped three women? Do you not think that you owe them an apology, putting them in danger as a result of trying to show me what happens to grasses?

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is back in the news again at the moment. An inspection of the Ablett Unit carried out by HIW has resulted in a damning report. HIW has stated – among other things – that patients are being put at risk, that facilities are totally inadequate and that there were only male staff on a ward with women patients. The response of the Betsi has been to say that £750 k has been spent on the Unit and another £400 k is going to be spent.

This is a Health Board that just doesn’t get that the problem is not and never has been money. The problem is that the north Wales NHS is full of people who once facilitated a sex trafficking ring – Dr Peter Higson was one of those who did so and he’s now the Chairman of the Betsi. No-one is ever dismissed for anything except for blowing the whistle on the abuse of patients. Tawel Fan Ward was closed down after a nurse blew the whistle on the biggest mental health scandal that there has ever been in the UK. The staff who abused the patients were all either suspended on full pay or given other jobs with the Betsi. A number of them were relocated to Bryn Hesketh where they were then caught abusing patients again – and were suspended on full pay… Some patients died as a result of their ill treatment in Tawel Fan and there are a number of investigations continuing – investigations with which the staff refused to co-operate. What the staff of Tawel Fan did do after the ward was closed down was appear in the Daily Post and insult the patients whom they had abused as well as their relatives.

One person has been sacked and struck off over Tawel Fan – Nicola Kingston, the nurse who blew the whistle on the abuse. Nicola faced a kangaroo court held by the NMC where she was deemed a disgrace and later incurred screaming newspaper headlines for ‘having sex with a patient’. No-one mentioned that the patient whom Nicola had sex with was her husband. Furthermore, he was not her patient and never had been – before they married, he was a mental health patient from England and Nicola did not meet him through her work. Before Nicola was struck off she received death threats.

The Betsi is already in special measures and at a debate in the Senedd a few weeks ago, Conservative AMs Darren Millar and Mark Isherwood both spoke about the stream of deaths and scandals which continue to emanate from the Betsi and begged the Health Minister Vaughan Gething to act. Vaughan told them to stop ‘talking down the NHS’.

Please Vaughan, be my guest – develop serious mental health problems and go for ‘help’ from those mad intimidating criminals yourself. Perhaps then you will understand that money is not the issue, serious criminality is.

Yet another casualty of the Betsi has just been imprisoned. Hannah Turtle, a young mother with mental health problems from north Wales, killed her baby and is now in prison. The Daily Post Online went to town with headlines of ‘inside the mind of evil Hannah’ and it was explained that Hannah ‘has the same diagnosis as Beverly Allitt’. Well I’m glad that Beverly’s been mentioned, because there are plenty of indications that she was framed for the murders of a number of children who died on the ward where she worked as a nurse.

The hospital where Beverly was working had been deemed unsafe before Beverly ever went near it because patients had died for unexplained reasons. The hospital was in Grantham, Thatcher’s home town and the serious problems there were kept under wraps for political reasons. Beverly was the newest, most junior person working on the ward and when unexpected deaths happened, she copped it. Beverly has now been in Rampton for many years.

It was alleged that Beverly suffered from Munchausens by Proxy and had killed a number of children by injecting them with insulin. Munchausen’s by Proxy is a psychiatric illness which was invented by Sir Roy Meadow, who isn’t even a psychiatrist. After inventing this illness, a number of women were wrongly imprisoned for killing their children who had died of SIDS. Meadow didn’t just make up an illness, he also made up a load of statistics in his capacity as an ‘expert witness’. No statisticians were called as witnesses so no-one pointed out the serious errors that Meadow had made. A number of women spent years in prison before Meadow’s fantasies were scrutinised and the women were released.

The most well-known casualty of Roy Meadow was Sally Clark, a solicitor who had lost two babies, became seriously depressed as a result and took to drink. She was portrayed in Court as a wealthy drunken slapper who was too busy downing gin with her middle class friends to want to care for her children so she bumped them off. There was not a scrap of evidence for any of the allegations made in Court about Sally. Furthermore, it was later revealed that a pathologist had actually discovered that one of Sally’s babies had died from pneumonia, but he had deliberately concealed this. He and Meadow stood up in Court, lied their arses off and an innocent bereaved mother went to prison.

Whilst in prison Sally Clark was physically attacked for being a child killer. By the time that she was released she was destroyed and she died some months later. The Top Docs had not caused Sally’s family enough suffering however. When Sally’s husband gave an interview after she was released, Professor David Southall – another paediatrician who is an expert in Munchausen’s by Proxy – rang the police and told them that he knew that Sally’s husband was the person who had killed the babies. Presumably because his eyes were a bit too close together.

Roy Meadow was eventually struck off by the GMC after the most damning evidence was presented against him. Meadow appealed to the High Court and was reinstated. He was represented by the country’s leading lawyer in medical negligence – Nicola Davies QC! Nicola is now Dame Nicola and in 2014 was appointed the Presiding judge of Wales (see post ‘Here’s What Happened To Nicola, Niclas, Merfyn, Joan and Kathryn’).

Southall also appeared in front of the GMC and fought a battle as epic as the one fought by Meadow, maxing out the very extensive appeals system. Southall was finally allowed to continue to practice and now styles himself as someone who is involved in ‘international humanitarian work’.

Another expert witness testified to Beverly Allitt’s guilt as well, an expert in diabetes who maintained beyond all reasonable doubt that Beverly had done it. That man was Professor Vincent Marks!

Can someone please urgently reinvestigate  the case of Beverly Allitt and rescue Hannah Turtle as well?

BBC News Wales reported a great success at the Royal Gwent Hospital – a group of patients had all been discharged from hospital and had arrived ‘safe and sound’ at home, which meant that their beds were freed up. It is poignant that in these times of elderly frail people being discharged from hospital at 3 am and dumped on their doorsteps whilst wearing their nightclothes, that it is considered newsworthy when they arrive home in one piece without their lives having been risked. The thing that the Angels were really pleased about though was that beds had been freed up. Which reminded me of a case that Brown brought to my attention in 2004 in Staffordshire, which concerned a nurse who had attempted to murder four elderly patients to free up the beds.

When such cases are actually acknowledged as opposed to being covered-up, people are usually gobsmacked and say ‘how did it ever come to this?’. Quite easily. It’s what happens in a system which conducted a 35 year long vendetta against a young woman and every one of her close friends after she complained about a gang of paedophiles led by a mad old doctor in the wilds of north Wales. In 30 years I did not meet one Top Doctor who did not collude with Dafydd and the paedophiles when they found out what was going on.

The Today programme got excited yesterday regarding a report that maintained that thousands of patients are dying every year as a result of prescribing errors. Janet Davies from the RCN explained that it was all a result of understaffing and what is needed is more money, lots of it. Janet stressed that the NHS must not have a blame culture, but a learning culture. It doesn’t have a blame culture Janet – unless you’re a whistleblower or of course a patient who has dared complain. The NHS does have a learning culture though – as an institution it has very effectively learnt how to never hold itself to account no matter how great the disaster and how to blame all problems on the putative lack of funding or unreasonable patients. Swathes of the NHS are understaffed – such as the Betsi – because the workplace is so toxic that no-one can bear to work there. Other hospitals are under-staffed because the Angels have all resigned and then registered with an agency so that they can be re-employed in their former jobs on their former wards at a far higher pay rate. Janet also quoted a practice in the US which had really impressed her –  using different coloured syringes for different types and quantities of medication. Janet that is neither rocket science nor news – this was being discussed in the UK at least 10 years ago and in the case of a lot of medications, there are now distinctively coloured vials for different quantities/drugs. Still serious errors are made.

Jeremy Hunt was interviewed on the Today programme about the en masse prescribing errors as well. Once he had done the obligatory – praised ‘the fantastically hard working staff’ – Jeremy fished around for all sorts of reasons to explain the prescribing errors. He was very keen on the idea of new IT systems. Jeremy – one thing that the NHS does not have a good record on is IT systems. Wasn’t there one a few years ago which cost many millions of pounds and then had to be scrapped completely? Then before that, there was the dog’s breakfast which was the website for the Modernising Medical Careers scheme. Neither of those cock-ups were the fault of the Top Doctors. They were the fault of arrogant, stupid Gov’ts which had given contracts for badly thought-out ideas to fly-by-night companies run by Minsters’ friends.

My posts ‘Oh,No! It’s The Pathetic Sharks’ and ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’ mentioned figures on the left and union leaders who ignored or concealed the organised abuse of children and psychiatric patients whilst boasting of their radicalism and commitment to the oppressed. A number of these people were actually working for the security services. Richard Littlejohn of all people wrote about this in the Mail Online today. He discussed the trade unionist Brian Nicholson who, Nicholson later admitted, had spent years passing information to MI5 – MI5 infiltrated all the unions and political parties many years ago. Nicholson was a good mate of Neil Kinnock.

MI5 infiltrated all of the UK’s national institutions years ago and from the 1960s onwards were crawling all over north Wales because of Welsh nationalist activism. The security services had UCNW (Bangor University) under surveillance, because there was Irish Republican activity in the Students’ Union. MI5 and MI6 knew all about Dafydd and the paedophiles and the sex trafficking ring.

Many of those who concealed the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal had connections with the security services and I have named a number of such people on this blog. I’m sure that the security services were not established with the remit of assisting the likes of Dafydd and the paedophiles, but the problem was all those people in high places who were molesting children – their needs were prioritised over the kids and witnesses who were turning up dead.

What has struck me is how many writers and journalists on the left were facilitating the abuse of vulnerable people or who were even abusing vulnerable people themselves, such as Michael Foot and his circle and of course Bertrand Russell and his associates. Just months after I first encountered Dr DGE Wood in the Student Health Centre at UCNW who was busy facilitating the sex abuse ring, Brown and I had a very unpleasant experience with someone whom we contacted through New Statesman. Brown had just graduated and had moved into the house that I shared with my friends on Anglesey. He was looking for house renovation work whilst he published a few things and wrote proposals for PhD funding and Wood knew this. Brown and me used to regularly read New Statesman in those days and Brown saw an advert from someone in Llangollen who wanted help renovating his house and in return offered board and lodging and a bit of money. It seemed ideal, so Brown used to go there during the week and come back to Anglesey at weekends. Brown spent several weeks down there and got to know the man concerned, Leslie Gore, quite well. Or so he thought. This was in 1983. Gore was 61, had owned the house in Llangollen for years and used it as a second home. Back in the 1970s and 80s there were a number of establishments in Gore’s area which were run by members of the paedophile gang and a number of them subsequently went to prison for abusing the kids in their care. Brown and me knew nothing about Dafydd and the paedophiles then, although we did know that Denbigh had a terrible reputation.

Months and months after Brown finished the work on Gore’s house, a letter for Brown arrived at our house. Brown was visiting his mum in Somerset at the time and told me over the phone to open the letter and see what it was. It was from Leslie Gore and was a vitriolic blistering personal attack on Brown, accusing him of being a ‘conman and a thief’. I think it was the nastiest letter that I had ever read. I wrote back to Gore saying that I was really sorry but Brown was away but he would be in touch as soon as he returned. By return of post I received a reply – an insulting personal attack on me with a few Top Doctor-esque comments about how much he could tell about me from my letter. I wrote back to Gore and told him that I didn’t give a stuff what his ESP told him about me, I did not appreciate these insults coming through our letter box. Our house was then bombarded. Brown gathered up the letters and returned them to Gore unopened, telling him never to come near us again. Gore then sent a postcard so it could not be returned unopened. Scrawled on the postcard was ‘Apolog (sic) – for sharing a few thoughts with you. When two planks dropped out of my door I thought that it was shoddy workmanship. I now realise it was the earthquake.’ (North Wales was clobbered by an earthquake in the summer of 1984, it was pretty good, the earth shook and buildings were damaged.)

So who was this offensive madman whose house was at the epicentre of an earthquake but he didn’t notice and instead hurled abuse at Brown and me – just as I was sitting my finals?

Leslie Gore worked as a therapist at the North Wales Hospital! With alcoholic patients – alcohol and drugs were Dafydd’s speciality (as well as sex therapy and PTSD of course). Prior to that Gore had spent many years working at Newcastle Poly. Regular readers will remember that the paedophiles of north Wales had many connections in the Newcastle area and that Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth, the two paedophiles who really stoked up trade at Bryn Estyn, had previously worked at Axwell Park Approved School in Gateshead. Gore also had a diploma from Imperial College and had worked at Keele University when it was in its early days. Peter Righton, a paedophile who doubled up as a social work academic and used his academic work to justify sex between adults and children, worked at Keele.

Now that Brown and I realise how long ago it was that we were targeted by these gangsters, the lengths to which they went to attack witnesses and that they had help from the security services, I think that it is highly likely that Leslie Gore’s aggro was a present from the paedophile gang. I suspect that the advert in New Statesman may even have been placed there for the purpose – it appeared just when Brown was looking for the very opportunity that Gore was presenting. It also meant that Brown was away during the week, so I was left to deal with the disgusting Wood and Gwynne the lobotomist by myself – and then we had to deal with upsetting shite coming our way as I was sitting finals.

Thanks Wood! What a vile scumbag you are.

If any readers have any info about Leslie Gore, I’d like to hear it.

Thank goodness we didn’t read New Society – John Allen advertised for the violent paedophiles who staffed Bryn Alyn in there.

I have mentioned that Sir Charles Evans, the former Principal of UCNW (Bangor University) protected staff in the University who were facilitating the paedophile gang in north Wales. Evans was a member of the team which made the first conquest of Everest in 1983. The team was led by Lord John Hunt, who held a senior role in the security services.  (See post ‘The Discovery Of A Whole New Galaxy…’ for more information about Charles Evans and John Hunt.) Another member of the Everest team was on the radio yesterday – Jan Morris. Jan Morris was James Morris when she climbed Everest with Charles Evans, John Hunt and co. Jan Morris has done a great many admirable things in her life and fought Top Doctors herself – not quite in the way that I did, but Jan Morris underwent gender realignment surgery when such a thing was virtually unheard of. Jan eventually went to I think Casablanca for surgery. Jan spent her childhood in Oxford and Somerset but as an adult settled in north west Wales near Cricieth and has now lived there for a very long time. She and her son and his family are rooted in the locality and both are very well-informed and well-read. Jan’s son Twm has won Bardic crowns at the National Eisteddfod. Some of the people whom Jan and Twm have associated with I know concealed the criminality of Dafydd and the paedophiles. A few years ago, I saw a photo of Jan with Christine Evans, the now retired surgeon from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, with an accompanying piece of text in which Jan praised Christine Evans. Christine Evans is considered to be a Top Doctor who is very sympathetic to the needs of transgender patients.

Dr Chris might be a star in that regard, but when Mary Burrows was appointed CEO of the Betsi in 2009 and challenged the paedophiles’ friends, Dr Chris manoeuvred herself into the position of head of the Betsi Cadwaladr CHC (Community Health Council). Christine Evans did that for only one reason, as was clear from a blog that she wrote at the time – her aim was to protect all those colleagues of hers who were involved in very serious wrongdoing.

Jan Morris has had a very productive life, despite the distress that she experienced as a result of gender dysphoria – she has been up Everest, has written prolifically and has travelled all over the world. In old age she has spent her years in a lovely spot at Llanystumdwy. The victims of the paedophile gang found themselves imprisoned in Dafydd’s dungeon at Denbigh and a lot of them were found dead before they were 21.

Note to MI5 and MI6: The reason why you are given carte blanche to bug, to burgle, to infiltrate, to place folk under surveillance, to place fallacious news stories in the media, to whip up intrigue, to marry people whilst pretending to be someone else and to generally perpetuate your fuckwittery with no questions asked is that you are charged with upholding national security. ‘National security’ includes the matter of Top Doctors running a sex trafficking ring and providing children to Gov’t ministers for sex and destroying the lives of and killing the witnesses. From what Brown and I alone have experienced over the last 35 years or so, you were not very successful at doing this. You saw what was happening to us and knew who was doing it, but you chose to protect Gov’ts and corrupt professional people instead of us and indeed others who were targeted. Documentation that would have enabled us to publish what I am now publishing on this blog was deliberately witheld until most of the corrupt judges and Gov’t Ministers responsible for the carnage had died. Should you wish to get in touch and explain why the nation should not simply dismantle the NHS, the social services and the security services and save on your salaries, please do – because you do not seem to be fulfilling your remit.

News From Sicily

An item on BBC News Wales yesterday reported that some members of the Welsh Gov’t are demanding that the smacking of children should be outlawed in Wales. One person articulating this view was Julie Morgan AM, a former social worker – who remained silent as did her colleagues whilst so many youngsters in their care were passed around a paedophile ring and trafficked to London and Brighton to provide sexual services for people in Westminster. Julie’s husband the late Rhodri, the former First Minister, remained remarkably silent about this problem as well, but that might have been because he kept appointing other people who had kept schtum about it to positions as Ministers for Health and Social Care – or Ministers for Children and Young People.  Another AM who wants to outlaw smacking is Huw Irranca-Davies.

Huw Irranca-Davies is the Labour AM for Ogmore. Huw caused a bit of a sensation because he had previously been the Labour MP for Ogmore and resigned his seat in Westminster because he wanted a seat in the National Assembly. He announced his desire to transition from Westminster to Cardiff Bay in October 2015, so it was most convenient that the Assembly seat for Ogmore – a safe Labour seat – was going begging within weeks, after the previous incumbent Janice Gregory stood down. Huw had been the MP for Ogmore since 2002 – he was selected for the safe Labour seat after the sitting MP Sir Ray Powell died unexpectedly. Sir Ray Powell was Janice Gregory’s dad! After her father died, Janice announced immediately that she would not be entering the selection to succeed her father’s seat – so that left the field open for Huw, who had been looking for a Westminster seat since 2001.

Huw was born in Gowerton in Swansea. As a boy he campaigned for his uncle, Ifor Davies, who was the ‘highly respected MP’ (or so Huw’s wiki entry tells us) for Gower, 1959-82. Uncle Ifor was also born in Gowerton, Swansea. Ifor had studied at Ruskin College and was a Councillor on Glamorgan County Council, 1958-61 and acted as election agent for his predecessor MP for Gower, David Grenfell.

Ifor was a member of Harold Wilson’s Gov’t – he was Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, 1964-66 and a Minister at the Welsh Office. Huw’s wiki entry tells us that at the Welsh Office, Ifor was ‘Deputy’ to Secretary of State for Wales Lord Cledwyn – the paedophiles’ friend, one of those who concealed the most appalling wrongdoing in north Wales whilst he was in the Welsh Office. Lord Cledwyn was a friend of the First Family of Troughing, the Kinnocks (see post ‘The Cradle of Filth’). Yet Ifor’s own wiki entry explains that he was Minister of State at the Welsh Office 1966-69. Lord Cledwyn was Secretary of State for Wales only until 1968 – George Thomas aka Lord Tonypandy then took over as Secretary of State for Wales until 1970. Furthermore George Thomas himself was Minister of State at the Welsh Office, April 1966-Jan 1967. So Huw’s Uncle Ifor worked alongside George Thomas as Minister of State and, after Cledwyn Hughes had moved on, then worked as Minister of State in the Welsh Office under George Thomas. The George Thomas that everyone would rather forget existed, the George Thomas who has been the subject of an historical investigation into child sexual abuse by the South Wales Police – as was George’s mate Leo Abse. The George Thomas who was also party to the shabby deal following the Aberfan disaster, which resulted in the Aberfan Disaster Fund being raided to pay for the removal of the coal tips because the National Coal Board was finding it a bit pricey. Whilst Uncle Ifor worked in the Welsh Office, the Permanent Secretary there was Sir Goronwy Daniel, who later became Principal of Aberystwyth University. Goronwy was someone else who pushed the boat out on many occasions to help the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’).

So what else did the highly respected Uncle Ifor get up to? Well he campaigned for a ‘No’ vote in the 1978 referendum as to whether a National Assembly for Wales should be established. Ifor was a member of the Gang of Six who led the No campaign – Neil Kinnock, Leo Abse, Donald Anderson, Alfred Evans and Ioan Evans.

Readers of this blog will be familiar with Neil Kinnock and Leo Abse – they’ve cropped up a great deal, just use the search facility – so I’ll concentrate on providing a bit of info about the other members of the Gang of Six.

Donald Anderson is now Lord Donald Anderson. He was Labour MP for Monmouth, 1966-70 and then for Swansea East, 1974-05.

Anderson went to Swansea Grammar School (now known as Bishop Gore School) – the institution which produced a whole collection of corrupt Top Doctors and their associates who concealed research fraud, criminal misconduct and the abuse of patients and children. For details of a few of them see posts ‘A Bit More Paleontology’ and ‘I Don’t Believe It’. After mixing with the future toxins in the NHS, Anderson went to what is now Swansea University, which has been host to so many members of Rhodri Morgan’s family and their friends.

Between 1970-74, Donald Anderson lived in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and sat as a Councillor ‘in a neighbouring borough’. The fact that a veil has been drawn over which borough this was suggests to me that something rather unedifying may have taken place which Donald would rather keep quiet, in the same way that Huw Irranca-Davies decided not to advertise the connections that Uncle Ifor had to George Thomas.

Donald Anderson was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of West Glamorgan in 2006. He became Lord Donald in Blair’s dissolution honours in 2005.

The man who succeeded Donald Anderson as MP for Monmouth in 1970 was the Conservative Sir John Stradling Thomas, who died in 1991. Sir John held a number of Ministerial positions under Heath and Thatcher. Readers may recognise his name. Richard Card who regularly leaves comments on my blog has mentioned Sir John a number of times. Richard maintains that Sir John was found dead at home in questionable circumstances just before it was believed that he was about to present evidence concerning the Westminster Paedophile Ring and demand an inquiry. Sir John was found dead in his flat in Dolphin Square – the Westminster Paedophile Ring were alleged to have abused their victims at flats in Dolphin Square and children in care from north Wales were taken there. In my post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’ I discussed Sir William Shelton’s silence regarding child abuse and the criminal activities of people at St George’s Hospital Medical School. I mentioned that after Shelton and Airey Neave had successfully installed Thatcher as leader of the Tory Party, the victory party – which was attended by Thatcher and Denis – was held at Shelton’s ‘Pimlico home’. Dolphin Square is in Pimlico.

Alfred Evans was Labour MP for Caerphilly, 1968-79. He was a graduate of University College Cardiff, went into teaching and became the headmaster of a number of boys secondary schools before entering Parliament. Evans’s seat was succeeded by Ednyfed Hudson Davies, who had previously been Labour MP for Conwy, 1966-70, in the heart of the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’).

Before Alfred Evans occupied the seat for Caerphilly himself, he had campaigned for his predecessor, Ness Edwards. Edwards was an associate of Nye Bevan and was a very radical man – but the next generation of his family were rather different.

Ness Edwards had a daughter Llinos, who called herself Llin. She is now a Baroness. Llin Golding was MP for Newcastle-Under-Lyme, 1986-01. Llin worked as a radiographer in the NHS and is now Patron of the Society of Radiographers. Llin is also a Board member of the Countryside Alliance. It was Llin Golding who enabled the Fathers For Justice protesters who covered Blair in purple flour in the Commons in May 2004 to gain entry to the House – she had vouched for them, although she later maintained that she didn’t know what they were going to do.

I am completely sympathetic to people who want to throw purple flour over Blair and to those who help them achieve their aim, but I am sorry that Llin didn’t facilitate a much more powerful protest about something that she definitely will have known about. Newcastle-Under-Lyme is in north Staffordshire. Throughout the years that Llin was MP there, not only were the kids in care being abused by the social worker Tony Latham and his mates and people raising concerns about the abuse were being framed and imprisoned themselves (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I’), but just down the road there was that notorious hospital which was abusing and killing patients. No-one in authority said a word and patients who dared complain were subjected to hate campaigns from NHS staff. Successive Secretaries of State had known that things were terribly wrong in the NHS in Staffordshire at least since the early 1990s and Llin will have known it as well. Did she perhaps work in the NHS in Staffordshire? Or have friends who did?

Llin was given a life peerage in 2001. Just after the Waterhouse Report had slammed the lid shut on the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal and just before the general public got to hear the extent of the horror that was Mid-Staffs.

So what prompted Llin the NHS radiographer from south Wales to stand for election later in life in Newcastle-Under-Lyme? It was because her husband gave his job up. Llin’s husband, John Golding, had been the Labour MP for Newcastle-Under Lyme since 1969 and Llin took over the seat from him! John Golding stood down from the Commons to take up the position of General Secretary of the National Communications Union.

John Golding went to Chester City Grammar School, then to Keele University and then to the LSE. Very soon after being elected to Parliament he became PPS to Eric Varley, who was Wilson’s Minister of Technology in the latter half of the 1970s. When Gerald Kaufman who had been the Labour MP for Manchester Gorton for decades died recently, it was discovered that in his will he had left absolutely everything – and he was a wealthy man – to his friend Eric Varley. Varley had died several years previously but Kaufman had not re-written his will. Kaufman was married with children, but he wasn’t planning to leave anyone but Varley a penny. Which suggests that Kaufman and Varley’s relationship was rather closer than anyone had ever realised. For more details on Eric Varley and his big buddy Gerald Kaufman see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’. Kaufman wielded a lot of influence in the Labour Party for many years. Kaufman, like Golding, was on the right of the Party.

Golding was a key figure in opposing Militant and had a loathing of those on the left of the Labour Party. He was a Whip in Wilson’s Gov’t and was known to be highly effective in achieving his aims – he successfully delayed Thatcher from privatising BT with a record-breaking filibuster. A Guardian article written about him in 1999 after his death describes him as ‘one of the best right fixers ever’, indeed a ‘master fixer’. The Guardian article is full of interesting anecdotes. It tells us that Robert Kilroy-Silk used to beat a path to Golding’s door to obtain advice from him as to how to deal with folk who he felt were hampering him.

Kilroy -Silk was a duplicitous git, a lot of people did not like him. He was a lecturer at Liverpool University who started his political career in the Labour Party, but fell out with people at a rate which would have made Dr David Owen proud and ended up – but only for a short time – in UKIP. He then fell out with them and like Dr Death started his own minority party but that died a death. Kilroy embarked on a successful media career, wrote ill thought out bigoted articles for the tabloids and also presented a daytime discussion TV programme in the 1990s. I remember it well because Dr Dafydd Alun Jones appeared on there, constructed as an ‘expert’. At the time, Dafydd was facilitating the paedophile ring, selling drugs to addicts and then providing helpful Court reports when they ended up in trouble with the law. Complaints about Dafydd were coming in thick and fast and he was such an embarrassment that even Gwynedd Health Authority were trying to force him into retirement (see post ‘The Evolution Of A Drugs Baron?’). But there he was on Kilroy, with Kilroy deferring to him and ordering members of the audience to listen to his wisdom.  Kilroy’s TV programme used to be recorded in the north of England, I think in Liverpool, but Kilroy lived in a mansion in Buckinghamshire. A friend of mine who worked in TV at the time told me that not only did Kilroy insist on the BBC providing a plane for him to jet between his palace and the studio in Liverpool on recording days, but on one occasion a couple of BBC staff hitched a lift on Kilroy’s plane back down south after the show and Kilroy went apeshit about them sharing the plane with him.

The Guardian article also revealed that after the 1983 General Election when Gerald Kaufperson had described Michael Foot’s election manifesto as ‘the longest suicide note in history’, one of Golding’s fan club asked him why he hadn’t ensured that the manifesto was rewritten. It seems that Golding preferred to see his opponents screw up big time and fall flat on their faces although he knew that it would cost Labour the election.

Golding was a member of the Council of the TUC but he only remained as General Secretary for the National Communications Union until 1988. After that he continued to be fully politically active supporting his wife in her job as an MP, but also as a Councillor on the Newcastle-Under-Lyme Borough Council, which was Labour.

The fact that Golding is credited with helping ‘modernise’ the Labour Party – which was Kinnock’s project – and fought Militant, suggests that he was close to Kinnock. Effective Whips and ‘fixers’ in politics always achieve their successes by blackmailing or bribing their opponents.

So what did John Golding have over everyone? Apart from the knowledge that the NHS in Staffordshire was killing people.

What with John Golding, Kilroy, Kinnock et al all really hating Militant, I suspect that they noticed something else very worrying as well that led to a by-election in Bootle in 1990. In spring 1990 Bootle elected as their Labour MP Michael Carr. Michael Carr had been a dockworker who joined the Labour Party in 1976 and was on the North West Executive of the Party from 1980. From 1984 Carr was a full time union officer for the TGWU and he became Secretary of the Liverpool Walton Constituency Labour Party in 1987. Michael Carr was one of the Labour Party members who had fought very hard against Militant in Liverpool. He was elected for Bootle in the summer of 1990. Whilst in the Commons on July 17 1990, Tory MP and the Times’s medical journalist Dr Thomas Stuttaford noticed that Carr had an ‘extreme pallor’. On 20 July 1990 Michael attended a meeting of the Liverpool Walton Constituency Labour Party in his capacity as General Secretary. The meeting was heated because Militant were stating that they’d be gearing up for more action in Liverpool, following the selection of Peter Kilfoyle as a Labour candidate. Carr felt pains in his chest and went outside for fresh air and had to sit down. He broke out into a cold sweat, had a sensation of pins and needles and then his hands went numb. An ambulance was called and he was taken to Walton Hospital, arriving at 9-54 pm. He was told at the hospital that he was hyperventilating and at 10-25 pm was discharged with a letter telling him to see his doctor. He was sent home in a taxi. Fifteen minutes after arriving home he was taken ill and another ambulance was called. He had a heart attack, fell into a coma and efforts to revive him by the staff of the A&E Dept of Walton Hospital  proved unsuccessful. Michael Carr was pronounced dead at 11-50 pm.

Michael had been the MP for Bootle for 57 days.

Michael Carr’s inquest was opened on 26 Feb 1991. The Merseyside coroner Roy Barter postponed the inquest to consider criminal charges against some of the health care staff. A file was sent to the DPP but no charges were brought. The DPP at the time was Sir Allan Green. Allan Green was appointed DPP in 1987 but resigned after he was caught kerb-crawling in King’s Cross in Oct 1991. At least it was presumed that he was kerb-crawling – Sir Allan stated that he had stopped to talk to some prostitutes, but he didn’t explain what he was talking to them about. Two years later Sir Allan’s estranged wife was found dead. The explanation was suicide, but there were a number of things that didn’t quite add up. Between 2000-04 Green represented a number of soldiers at the Inquiry into the Bloody Sunday Massacre of 1972, for which he was paid £1.5 million. Green worked as a barrister until he retired in 2013. Sir Allan was DPP throughout the years that Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I were screaming as loudly as we could that there was serious criminal activity in the welfare agencies in north Wales. He was DPP whilst a number of kids in care were found dead, whilst mental health patients were detained illegally and framed for criminal offences and whilst no charges were ever brought against people employed in the social services and mental health services, although there was evidence of serious wrongdoing. I  don’t suppose Sir Allen wants to tell us what was happening when he was DPP. His wife might have been able to provide some useful info about Sir Allan and his habits, but sadly she is dead, having ‘committed suicide’ in the middle of the police investigations into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. For more details about Sir Allan and the circumstances of his wife’s death, see post ‘A Future Leader Of The Labour Party’.

After Sir Allan failed to bring charges against anyone in the wake of Michael Carr’s death, his inquest resumed on 9 April 1992. The coroner then postponed it after referring three points of law to the High Court. Carr’s family sought a judicial review of that decision, which was held on 28 May 1993. Once more a file was sent to the DPP, but the DPP considered that there was insufficient evidence to bring any charges. The DPP at the time was Dame Barbara Mills. Barbara Mills was married to John Mills. John Mills is a major donor to the Labour Party and was a Councillor on Camden Council for most of the time between 1971-06. John Mills was also the Deputy Chair of the London Docklands Corporation. John Mills’s brother David is married to Tessa Jowell. Barbara been a legal assessor for the GMC and was Director of the Serious Fraud Office, 1990-92. Whilst Barbara was Director of the SFO, the SFO were investigating allegations of bribery on the part of Silvio Berlusconi. David Mills was later charged with receiving bribes from Berlusconi. Like Sir Allen, Barbara was DPP during a period of time when a lot of people in the health and care sector in north Wales got away with an awful lot and whilst witnesses to and victims of the child abuse in the region continued to turn up dead. Barbara Mills was a non-executive Director of the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, 2000-07. Dame Barbara had many high points during her glorious career, the details of which can be read in my post ‘A Future Leader Of The Labour Party’.

The judicial review relating to Michael Carr’s inquest nullified the findings of the first inquest and a new inquest was ordered under a new coroner. The second inquest opened on 20 Feb 1995. On the 23 Feb 1995 a verdict of death by natural causes was returned.

Some very unfortunate deaths continued to occur in the NHS facilities of Merseyside. My post ‘A Vampire At Glyndwr University’ explains how two people known to me from Gwynedd were both diagnosed with brain tumours and referred to the neurological centre at Walton for treatment within months of each other. One of these people was a former social worker from north Wales who was married to another former social worker. They both fall very firmly into the category of paedophiles’ friends. The other person was married to someone who was known to dearly want to see the back of the paedophiles’ friends and whose friend had dared spill the pints of the paedophiles’ friends on a number of occasions. The patient who was a paedophiles’ friend was successfully operated upon at Walton, made a full recovery and is now retired, enjoying themselves with the rest of the paedophiles’ friends.  The person who was married to the challenger of the paedophiles’ friends was told by Walton that their tumour was inoperable and palliative care was the only option. They died within months.

A by-election took place in Bootle after Michael’s death and Joe Benton was elected as Labour MP for the constituency. Benton had put himself forward as a candidate previously, but Carr had won the selection.

Joe Benton was Labour MP for Bootle until 2015. He was a JP on the Bootle Bench from 1969. Benton became a Councillor on Bootle County Borough Council in 1970 and was a Councillor for Sefton Borough Council after local gov’t reform in 1973 until he was elected in 1990, becoming leader in 1985. After Benton became an MP John Smith appointed him an Opposition Whip in 1994. Well there’s the ultimate way of persuading the MPs to vote in the right way – do what you’re told or the next time you visit an NHS hospital you’ll leave in a coffin.

Joe Benton was a devout Catholic who voted to restrict abortion, to oppose embryo research and euthanasia and who opposed equalising the age of consent between heterosexuals and homosexuals. He signed a petition supporting the definition of marriage as a voluntary union for life between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. This was the last straw for Joe’s local constituency Party. They could cope with his opponent being murdered by the Top Doctors and Angels and two DPPs concealing it all, but his old fashioned views on marriage were just too much and Benton was deselected. Benton’s mate and fellow Councillor Peter Dowd was elected and he’s the present day MP for Bootle.

In June 2014 Pope Francis conferred upon Benton the Knighthood of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St Gregory the Great for his contribution to civic life. The Roman Catholic Church can be very understanding – many years ago one of the Popes met a similar fate to William Carr and only lasted a matter of a few weeks as Pope before he was found dead.

The final member of the Gang of Six who led the NO to devolution campaign in Wales that I mentioned was Ioan Evans. He was the Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, 1964-70 and then for Aberdare, from 1974 until his death in 1984.

Ioan Evans was another person who was a graduate of the University College of Wales Swansea. He had been the Secretary of the Birkenhead Co-operative Party, 1950-53; the Secretary of the Birmingham Co-operative Party, 1953-64; he also sat on the West Bromwich Education Committee and was the agent for Birmingham Small Heath in the 1955 and 59 elections. Evans was a JP in Birmingham, 1960-70 and a JP in Middlesex from 1970. So Ioan got around all over the place. He’ll have known about the corruption in the Birmingham NHS and in the West Midlands Police and about the abuse of children in care in Birmingham as well as how from the late 60s onwards some of those children were being sent into the arms of the paedophile gang in north Wales on ‘placements’.

Ioan Evans was PPS To John Morris, the Secretary of State for Wales 1974-79. John Morris – now Lord Aberavon – was certainly a good friend to the paedophile ring. He led the Welsh Office whilst it covered up the activities of Dafydd and Gwynne the lobotomist as they lobotomised, shocked and drugged the victims of the paedophile gang in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and whilst the Welsh Office failed to even inspect children’s homes in north Wales which were managed and staffed by the paedophile gang. Morris was yet another law graduate from Aberystwyth University who proved so helpful to the paedophile gang. Blair appointed him Attorney General between 1997-99 – whilst the Waterhouse Inquiry took evidence. Morris held Ministerial office under Wilson, Callaghan and Blair, so a lot of people obviously found him very useful. He stood down from the Commons in 2001, once the cover-up that was the Waterhouse Report had been published and that box had been ticked. Then he picked up his peerage.

When John Morris stood down as MP for Aberavon, Hywel Francis, another member of the Kinnock-Rhodri Morgan network succeeded him. When Hywel Francis stood down, Stephen Kinnock succeeded him!

Ioan Evans however didn’t last long as John Morris’s PPS, he resigned in 1974. Not because Morris and the Welsh Office were concealing serious criminal activity, but because he disagreed with the Labour Party line over devolution – which at that time was to support it.

Towards the end of his incumbency, Ioan’s Aberdare constituency was renamed as Cynon Valley. Although the constituency changed its name, its boundaries remained pretty much the same. Ann Clwyd was the MP who succeeded Ioan. Ann Clwyd is one politician who did take an interest in the complaints of the kids in care from north Wales who had been abused. In fact Ann Clwyd conducted some interviews with some of the former residents of the north Wales children’s homes who claimed to have been abused – five of them were living in her constituency. So Ioan Evans didn’t notice them then.

It is interesting to note how many descendants of the friends and relatives of those who vigorously opposed the creation of the National Assembly are now participating in the most serious cronyism in order to bag themselves a seat in it – such as Huw Irranca-Davies.

Huw’s Uncle Ifor was an MP sponsored by APEX. APEX was the union which was at the centre of the notorious Grunwick dispute, 1976-78. The Grunwick dispute began over the terrible working conditions, treatment and pay of the employees of Grunwick, who were mostly East African Asians, women and first generation immigrants. The dispute began by the truly appalling treatment of six workers who challenged their employers about working conditions, were sacked for doing so and then set up a tiny picket. CAB advised them to seek union representation and the TUC recommended APEX – a very odd and not very sensible recommendation, APEX being a union representing mostly professional and office workers who were not particularly au fait with the sort of problems that the Grunwick workers were encountering. APEX was also possibly the most right wing union there was. Shirley Williams was an APEX sponsored MP and proudly boasted that it was ‘the most moderate and anti-communist’ union. The Grunwick workers followed the advice that they had been given and joined APEX. Despite APEX’s right-leaning bent, support for the Grunwick workers was mobilised and became substantial. One TGWU activist involved with drumming up support was Jack Dromey aka Mr Harriet Harman. The picket lines became very violent indeed, but it was police violence rather than violence from the pickets. The infamous Metropolitan Police Special Patrol Group were employed to police the dispute, which won’t have been a coincidence because the SPG really enjoyed violently assaulting ethnic minorities. The SPG managed to murder someone in 1979, Blair Peach, a New Zealand teacher who was on an anti-NF march. A member of the SPG clobbered him over the head with a truncheon and killed him, but the culprit was never identified – the SPG routinely covered their faces and removed their numbers from their uniforms -and no-one was ever held to account. Blair Peach wasn’t even black either.

The Grunwick dispute withered away when James Callaghan’s Gov’t agreed to commission an Inquiry by Lord Scarman. The boss of Grunwick George Ward belligerently stated that he didn’t care what Scarman’s Inquiry recommended, he would only obey orders from the Courts. The Grunwick workers had been treated appallingly, had lost their jobs and undoubtedly had a very genuine case. It was observed at the time that white British workers would never have been expected to work in the conditions in which the Grunwick women did. However at the mention of an Inquiry by Lord Scarman, the General Secretary of APEX – Roy Grantham – called off the pickets, saying that APEX would wait for Scarman’s recommendations and abide by them. Scarman recommended that there should be union recognition at Grunwick and that the sacked workers should be reinstated. George Ward – who was backed by the Freedom Association and the Conservative Party – told Scarman to take a running jump. There would be no union recognition and the sacked workers would not be reinstated. An appeal to the Lords backed up George Ward. In Nov 1977 one of the Grunwick workers went on hunger strike outside the TUC HQ. APEX suspended her union membership as a result. The others unions sold the Grunwick workers down the river as well. Grunwick is now acknowledged as having been the point at which unions lost their power. A pity that Uncle Ifor’s mates – as well as Jack Dromey and Len Murray, the General Secretary of the TUC – weren’t prepared to fight for some female immigrants who were being exploited in a way which would never have been tolerated if it had been happening to white, British born, male workers. Shirl lost her seat in 1979, but later joined Dr Death in the SDP and ended up in the Lords anyway.

Huw’s Uncle Ifor was also Chair of the Council at Swansea University.

Now that I’ve supplied a bit of background info on Huw’s highly respected Uncle Ifor and his mates, I’ll return to Huw’s entry into politics.

After graduation, Huw worked in local authorities and leisure management. Huw also worked for the private sector and taught at Swansea University. Whether Uncle Ifor was on the interview panel for that Swansea appointment I do not know.

Huw started sniffing around for a Westminster seat at about the time of the publication of the Waterhouse Report. He stood as the Labour candidate for Brecon and Radnor in 2001 but came behind both the Lib Dems and the Tories. Then in 2002, after the death of Sir Ray Powell, Huw was elected as MP for Ogmore.

So who was Sir Ray Powell, Janice Gregory’s dad?

Ray Powell was elected in 1979 and unlike Uncle Ifor and co was pro-devolution. Ray attacked Neil Kinnock and Leo Abse for their ‘rabble rousing egotistical behaviour’. However Ray changed his mind about devolution in the 90s – because he really hated Ron Davies and Ron Davies was the main standard bearer for devolution.  Ron Davies really hated Powell in return – Ron had unsuccessfully tried to have Powell removed from the Whip’s office. Ray Powell must have had the last laugh, because although Ron Davies won the devolution argument, in 1998 just before he was about to be officially appointed First Minister, Ron was caught up in an intriguing incident on Clapham Common as described in my post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’. The official story line – as formulated by Alastair Campbell – was that Ron had a ‘moment of madness’ and was mugged whilst doing nothing in particular on Clapham Common. Blair’s autobiography ‘A Journey’ effectively admits that this was a complete cock and bull story. Blair doesn’t admit what really did happen involving Ron Davies on Clapham Common, but the facts are that Ron Davies met a black gay prostitute going under the name of Boogie who somehow made off with Ron’s car, wallet, House of Commons pass and I think some or most of his clothes, after holding Ron up at knifepoint. Ron himself has never been able to explain what went on. Blair simply states in his book that things got very difficult because shortly after Boogie left Ron high and dry, Nick Brown the Agriculture Minister was also caught up in a scandal involving a rent boy, but Alastair came to the rescue once more and the story was repackaged as a good news story about Nick Brown coming out as gay.

Nick Brown has been the MP for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne East since 1983. He has served three terms as a Labour Chief Whip, 1997-98, 2008-10 and 2016-the present. Nick Brown originally moved to Newcastle  in 1978 when he took up the post of legal advisor to the Northern Region of the GMBATV (now the GMB). The General Secretary of the GMBATV at the time was David Basnett, who in 1978 was also President of the TUC. That union has a very high number of members who work in social care, the NHS, the ambulance service and local authorities. David Basnett took early retirement in 1986. Just at the time when Alison Taylor, Mary Wynch and I began writing to the authorities regarding the serious criminal activities in north Wales. I have previously speculated that the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal which occurred in the first half of 1987 served as a useful distraction with regard to what was happening in north Wales and it also detracted from the fact that children were being abused by people paid to care for them. David Basnett was given a peerage in 1987. My post ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection?’ details links between people working in mental health in north Wales and people employed in medicine and mental health in Newcastle.

Ray Powell seems to have been a very robust man who didn’t mince his words. He called Nicholas Edwardes aka Lord Crickhowell – the man who planned and then became very rich as a result of the scam that was the development of Cardiff Bay (see post ‘Corruption Bay Special’) – ‘Nick the Ripper, the industrial rapist of Wales’. He was even ruder about Thatcher during the Falklands conflict and told her that she had blood on her hands. He refused to share a platform with Jin Callaghan on the grounds that he’d ‘ratted on Michael Foot’ in 1983 by opposing unilateralism. Ray Powell vigorously opposed Sunday trading, but freely admitted that wasn’t because of religious objections, it was because he was sponsored by the shop workers’ union USDAW and they told him to oppose it.

Ray was a Labour Whip between 1983-95 and one of his achievements was to refuse Ken Livingstone a desk for more than a year after Ken arrived in the Commons in 1987. Although Ray Powell had a reputation as an effective and formidable Whip himself, he later denounced the Whips office as ‘the Gestapo’ after he ended up on a hit list for refusing to vote to lower the age of consent for homosexual activities. Ray might have held out against that, but he never mentioned the matter of the abuse of children in care in Wales at all – although he was in the Commons throughout the years of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal, the police investigations, the Jillings Inquiry, the Waterhouse Inquiry, the deaths of witnesses…Ray was also the honorary Secretary of the Welsh Parliamentary Labour Party, 1982-92.

One cause that Ray Powell did take up was that of grandparents’ rights. He became interested in this after he was approached by two constituents who had brought up their granddaughter whose parents were both drug addicts and had been unable to look after her. The little girl had lived with her grandparents for years and didn’t know her birth parents – Powell was horrified to learn that the social services were nonetheless able to remove her from her grandparents’ care and give her to her birth parents. Obviously Powell had no such concerns about social workers removing children from their birth parents and handing them over to a gang of paedophiles who then trafficked them to London to provide sexual services for some of Powell’s colleagues.

Ray Powell could make headway in the most unlikeliest of circumstances. In 1983 the Tory Gov’ts cap on spending resulted in problems with the building of phase two of the hospital in Bridgend in Powell’s constituency. Ray Powell took up the case with the paedophiles’ friend Wyn Roberts at the Welsh Office. Wyn Roberts was obliged to make special arrangements for the funding of the hospital and Ray was delighted to be able to tell his constituents that they would be getting the first rate hospital that they deserved. But Wyn Roberts found himself doing a few other remarkable things to help Welsh causes after he or his colleagues in the Welsh Office had received a visit from someone in a position to remind them that a vicious paedophile gang was operating in north Wales and that the Welsh Office knew all about it (see post ‘The Cradle Of Filth’).

Ray Powell was big mates with another south Wales MP, Llew Smith. Smith was MP for Blaenau Gwent, 1992-05 – he inherited the seat from Michael Foot. Llew was also elected as the member of the European Parliament for South Wales East in 1984. He stood down in 1994 – and made way for one Glenys Kinnock!

On the eve of the 1997 General Election Ray Powell told an interesting tale about two of his Blairite colleagues. He alleged that Mandelson and Ron Davies offered him a peerage if he gave up his sat in the Commons for Alan Howarth, the Conservative who had crossed the floor to join the Labour Party.

Howarth had an interesting background for a defector to the Labour Party. He had worked in the Conservative Party Chairman’s Office in Conservative Central Office under Willie Whitelaw – the Willie who had his arm twisted by the paedophiles’ friends in order to get him to agree to establish a Welsh language TV channel (see post ‘A Bit More Paleontology’).

Howarth had been Director of the Conservative Research Department – when Matthew Parris worked there, Parris claimed that Dept employed a senior member of staff who went out and around London on buses in search of young men. The Dept also arranged summer holidays on the continent for staff at a destination known as the Villa of Shame, in which ‘willing boys’ were supplied.

Alan Howarth had been the Conservative Party Vice-Chairman and had also founded the Thatcherite No Turning Back Group.

He defected to the Labour Party in 1995. The year that Sir Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s aide and he Conservative Deputy Party Chairman – who was known to be abusing boys in care in north Wales – was found dead in his house having ‘fallen down the stairs’. The year in which the Jillings investigation was nearing completion – which resulted in the report that was famously pulped and released to no-one, on the advice of the County Council’s insurers’ QC, Michael Beloff (see post ‘It’s A Piece Of Cake’). Michael Beloff is a friend of Tony and Cherie and visited them at Chequers. The insurance company involved – Zurich –  also insured a number of police forces, including I think the North Wales Police. Michael Beloff’s dad Lord Max Beloff praised a book written by Ioan Bowen Rees Jones and recommended it as ‘essential reading’. Bowen Rees was Chief Exec of Gwynedd County Council whilst the paedophile gang raged within the Council’s children’s homes and whilst mental health patients were threatened, harassed and left destitute and to die by psychiatric social workers employed by the Council. Under Ioan’s leadership, Gwynedd County Council employed a corrupt County Secretary and a corrupt lawyer who framed people who complained about the Social Services (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’).

What would a long standing hard right Thatcherite like Howarth want with New Labour and what would they want with him?

Ray Powell refused to be bribed with a peerage but Howarth did find a safe Labour seat for which to stand at the 1997 General Election. Howarth was elected for the seat of Newport East. He succeeded Roy Evans, who had been an officer of the TGWU, 1959-66, a Councillor on Coventry City Council and the Secretary of Coventry City Labour Party from 1962. He was elected as MP for Newport East in 1966. Roy decided to retire at the 1997 General Election. He accepted a peerage upon his retirement.

Howarth was dropped from the Gov’t at the 2001 General Election – once the Waterhouse Report was done and dusted – and stood down from the Commons in the 2005 General Election. Whereupon he received a peerage.

Alan Howarth and his partner Baroness Patricia Hollis are one of the few couples who both hold peerages in their own right. I’m not quite sure how Patricia Hollis managed to pick up her peerage – she did write an award winning biography of Jennie Lee, Nye Bevan’s wife, but that’s hardly a reason to dish out a seat in the Lords and anyway Hollis didn’t write the Jennie Lee biography until 1998, eight years after she was given a peerage. Hollis was an historian at the University of East Anglia, 1967-90. She contested Great Yarmouth for the Labour Party in Feb 1974, Oct 1974 and in 1979. Hollis was a Councillor on Norwich City Council, 1968-91 and was leader of the Council, 1983-88. She was a member of the Press Council, 1988-90. If anyone knows how a not very well known historian from UEA who sat on Norwich City Council managed to persuade someone to give her a peerage, please do let me know.

Once in the Lords, Hollis was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the DWP, 1997-05. She was made a Privy Councillor in 1999 and then became Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk.

Alan Howarth and Patricia Hollis have come under fire for both claiming expenses for transporting themselves to and fro between their homes and the House of Lords, although they live next door to each other.

Once Huw Irranca-Davies had been elected as MP for Ogmore, he was appointed as PPS to Jane Kennedy, who was Minister of State in the N Ireland Office. Now Jane is certainly someone whom it is worth providing a bit of detail about.

Jane Kennedy graduated in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool and then worked in social care for Liverpool City Council, 1979-88. So Jane will know all about the abuse and neglect of children in care and other service users then. Children in care from Liverpool were sent on placement to north Wales. A lot of patients with drug problems from Liverpool also mysteriously found their way to north Wales, specifically to Dr Dafydd Alun Jones’s door. After doing her bit with the service users, Jane Kennedy became an organiser for the trade union NUPE – that was one of the trade unions who represented people who worked in social care, including those who had abused the people whom they were paid to care for (see post ‘A Very COHSE Relationship With Some Very Nasty People’). A union merger involving NUPE led to the formation of UNISON. Kennedy was also active in the Labour Party in Liverpool and was one of those who was credited with ridding the Liverpool Labour Party of Militant. So Jane Kennedy was another of Neil Kinnock’s foot soldiers then. In 1992 Kennedy was elected MP for Liverpool Broadgreen, after the sitting MP Terry Fields was deselected as a result of his links with Militant.

Kennedy was a member of the Social Security Select Committee, 1992-94 and in 1995 was appointed a Labour Whip. Between 1997-98 she was Assistant Gov’t Whip and then Gov’t Whip until 1999. Ah well the Waterhouse Inquiry was underway by then and Jane will have known where the bodies were buried. In 1997 Kennedy’s constituency was abolished, but she managed to get herself elected as MP for Liverpool Wavertree, so business continued as usual.

In 1999 Jane landed her first ministerial position – in the Lord Chancellor Derry Irvine’s dept, where she remained until 2001.

Jane then became Minister of State at the N Ireland office, which is when Huw Irranca-Davies worked as her bag carrier. Jane was responsible for security and the justice system in N Ireland! After the suspension of the N Ireland Assembly in Oct 2002, Kennedy was given responsibility for education and employment in N Ireland.

In 2003 Jane joined many other paedophiles’ friends as a Privy Councillor.

In 2004 Kennedy was transferred to the DWP as Minister of State, then after the 2005 General Election to the Dept of Health, where she was Minister of State once more, under Secretary of State the paedophiles’ friend Patricia Hewitt.

Jane left the Gov’t in May 2006. Journalists reported that she had been sacked but Jane maintained that she had resigned on principle as a result of her concern at the effect that Gov’t policies were having on the NHS. At the time Blair was stamping on whisteblowers and stuffing Top Doctors mouths with gold whilst concealing the neglect and abuse of patients which Jane will have known about for years. So what could Jane have been concerned about all of a sudden? It remains a mystery. Three years later in May 2009 when Jane announced that she would soon be standing down as an MP, Jane told the Liverpool Echo that she had thought about resigning from Parliament in 2006 when Sir David Henshaw was appointed Chair of the North West Strategic Health Authority. Jane told yet other people that she resigned in 2006 because of the damage that the Gov’ts NHS policies were inflicting on Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. This was the Alder Hey which years previously was the centre of a scandal when it was revealed that the organs of dead children had been retained without their parents’ knowledge let alone consent and that some of the organs had turned up in the garage of one of the Top Doctors. That had obviously all been OK with Jane.

Why might Jane have objected to the arrival of Sir David Henshaw so strongly? I’m not entirely sure, but Sir David Henshaw has the best CV that I have ever seen in terms of being associated with facilitators of serious crime. Here are the highlights:

BA at Sheffield City Polytechnic 1969-73, followed by an MA at the University of Birmingham, 1973-74.

Clerk, Merseyside Police Authority, 1989-01; Chief Exec, Knowsley Borough Council, 1989-99; Chief Exec of Liverpool City Council, 1999-06; Chair, North West Strategic Health Authority, 2006-11; Chair, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, 2011-present day; Chair, University Hospitals of  Morecombe Bay NHS Trust, 2012-13; Interim Chair, Dorset Health Care University Foundation Trust, 2013-14; Interim Chair, St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation, March 2016-present day; Chair, National Museums Liverpool, 2017-present day. Henshaw has also a non-executive Director of the National Offender Management Board; an advisor to the DWP, 2006-07; an advisor to the PM’s Delivery Unit. He carried out an Independent Review of Child Support Policy and the CSA in the UK and was an External Advisor on Public Service Reform to the Political Oversight Group for the States of Jersey.

Even a brief glimpse at the internet suggests that controversy follows David wherever he goes. A blog dedicated to exposing skulduggery in Liverpool maintains that after Sir David departed as Chief Exec of the Council he picked up a pension pay off of £240k – the blog also alleged that Sir David played around with his date of departure with a view to ensuring that the Council footed the bill for his pension. The same blog revealed that for his part-time job advising the CSA, Sir David was paid £340k a year. The enterprising blogger has posted up a nice photo of a young Sir David in the company of a young Jack Straw taken in the 1970s.

The website of St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust recently revealed that Chairman Sir David Henshaw  welcomed the appointment of Paula Vasco-Knight as the new acting Chief Exec. Paula Vasco-Knight featured on this blog last year. She is the former Chief Exec of an NHS Trust in Devon who narrowly avoided a prison sentence after it was revealed that she had played fast and loose with the Trust’s money. A number of Vasco-Knight’s close friends and relatives had also been appointed to jobs connected with the Trust. Whilst this was happening, local services were slashed, there was a protest march by the general public and there had been a number of deaths of mental health patients. An Angel who blew the whistle on the wrongdoing was sacked by Vasco-Knight. For the Vasco-Knight story in full, see post ‘NHS Chief Executive Collapses In Court After Being Spared Jail’.

Sir David Henshaw is either a secret agent who has been sent to spy on the biggest crooks in the UK welfare state or he needs to be arrested immediately.

A further twist in the story behind Jane Kennedy’s resignation from the Dept of Health was suggested by a May 2006 BBC News report, which quoted people loyal to Blair maintaining that recent events indicated that there was a plot to get him – Kennedy’s resignation was reported in the same news report.

Who could ever tell what the motive behind Jane’s resignation was, among this collection of deceitful, duplicitous, double-dealers whose only desire was of course To Serve.

Not that Jane’s resignation held her back for long. Under Gordon Brown, she was appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury, 2007-08. She took on the responsibilities of Dawn Primarolo SP, the Paymaster General. Dawn was another Strong Woman who managed to throw a few principles overboard in order to bag a place in Gov’t.

In Oct 2008 Gordon appointed Jane Minister of State in DEFRA. In 2009 Jane resigned from the Gov’t again and returned to the backbenches, because according to Jane, Gordon was a bastard who didn’t know how to Lead. Jane subsequently announced that she would be standing down from her seat at the 2010 General Election, because she was ‘tired’ and needed a bit of time for herself. An interview with Jane in the Liverpool Echo reported Jane as saying that she wanted to learn to speak French and to train her recently acquired Belgian Shepherd puppy with a view to entering the pup in competitions. In the same interview Jane described Gordon as a Mafia boss who didn’t actually pull the trigger himself but knew who was going to drop next. Jane presumably knew how Mafia bosses operate.

The Belgian Shepherd pup obviously left Jane with time on her hands however, because a huge row soon erupted when it was revealed that the person selected as the Labour Parliamentary candidate to fight Jane’s seat at the 2010 General Election, a Luciana Berger, had stayed at Jane Kennedy’s house for a period before she had been selected. Jane Kennedy shared her house with Peter Downing, the local Labour Party’s election agent who was responsible for running the selection process. Downing had run the whole process and had received the completed ballot papers at his and Jane’s home address. The address at which Luciana had been kipping for a while before she won the selection. In the run up to the General Election, it was  alleged that Berger had been parachuted into Liverpool Wavertree by Labour Party HQ. Luciana Berger was part of an All Women Shortlist which had been imposed on the local party. As the allegations flew, Luciana herself stated that she wished that she had been selected via an open process and that she knew that people were  saying that she did not deserve to win. Did Luciana withdraw and have another go elsewhere in an open selection process? No. Luciana was elected as the Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree at the 2010 General Election.

As for Jane – that dog of hers is obviously a genius and the easiest dog in the world to train for competitions, because after learning French and training the dog, Jane stood for election as the Labour candidate for the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner. She was elected as Commissioner in 2012 and remains in that post.

In May 2016 just after she was re-elected as Police and Crime Commissioner, Jane gave an interview to the Liverpool Echo regarding the huge problem of serious organised crime on Merseyside and explained that this is why the budget mustn’t be Cut. It’s also why people who have spent their lives since graduation ignoring serious crime in the welfare services shouldn’t be elected to Parliament or indeed as Police and Crime Commissioners.

Note to Neil Kinnock: Neil – I know that Derek Hatton was a pain in the bum, but did you really have to get rid of him and his friends by filling up the Labour Party with equally dreadful people who concealed criminal activities in the NHS and social care system? Would it have not been more sensible to have come clean about it, admitted that folk in your own Party were involved with organised child sexual abuse and associated wrongdoing as well and had the whole lot of them arrested? Witnesses were killed Kinnock – as was Michael Carr who did his best to help you. I know that you and Glenys have enjoyed the largesse of a very deep trough for many years now, as have your offspring, but Stephen and Rachel are a bit dim as well and probably will make as little contribution to the planet as you and Glenys have. Rachel’s place in Ed Miliband’s Top Team didn’t result in anything too positive for the Labour Party did it?

It’s worth saying a few things here about Jane Kennedy’s successor, Luciana.

Luciana seems to be another descendant of a famous Labour dynasty who have sold out – she is the great niece of Manny Shinwell, who was part of Attlee’s Gov’t. Luciana’s mum was a counsellor in a palliative care unit, so probably turned a blind eye to a few dangerous doctors and quite a bit of patient harm. Luciana went to the University of Birmingham and then to Birkbeck (University of London). She was a member of the NEC of the NUS but resigned in 2005 over the alleged anti-Semitic conduct of other members. Luciana spent three years as Director of the Labour Friends of Israel, but resigned just before the 2010 General Election. Jane Kennedy was Chair of the Labour Friends of Israel, 1997-98 and again between 2000-07. Luciana was also a committee member of the London Jewish Forum – a body which helps Jewish people get on in London life – but stepped down before she became an MP.

Before becoming an MP Berger worked for the CRE, for management consultancy Accenture and for the NHS Confederation! You weren’t really among the dispossessed were you Luciana. It also become known that prior to the row over her selection as the candidate for Wavertree Luciana had been selected to represent a safe Labour ward in Camden Council. She offered to relinquish her Camden candidacy, but the Labour Party wouldn’t agree to that until they’d settled (or should I say fixed?) the selection for Wavertree.

Luciana ran into trouble in Oct 2010 when she appeared in a Radio Five Live show with Kelvin MacKenzie, who is probably the most hated person on Merseyside – with good reason. Luciana’s excuse in the face of the outrage was that she didn’t know that MacKenzie was going to be appearing.

Luciana ran into trouble yet again in Sept 2011 when the Jewish Chronicle reported that she had come under fire from the Jewish community in Liverpool for not using her position as an MP to defend Israel for the sake of her career development. In 16 months Luciana had not managed to mention Israel in the Commons.  Well why would she, she’s bagged her seat now.

In the run up to the 2011 Budget, Luciana contributed to Left Foot Forward. That’s the blog run by Will Straw, Jack’s son, who’s also on the hunt for a safe Labour seat. Jack is part of a dance troupe who call themselves The Nutters, who as part of their routine black up.

In 2014 Luciana was appointed by Jeremy Corbyn as Shadow Minister for Public Health and in 2015 became Shadow Minister for Mental Health – Luciana stressed that the Tories haven’t got one of them. She wasn’t up to much though, she spouted the usual banal rubbish about service users and stigma.

In 2015 Luciana unsuccessfully applied for selection as the Labour candidate for the Metro Mayor of Liverpool.

In 2016 Luciana resigned from the Shadow Cabinet because Jeremy’s rubbish. Presumably she’ll now have time to do other things – perhaps she could black up and join Will Straw in The Nutters.

Luciana has certainly had her own cross to bear. She has been one of the leaders of the debate concerning the trauma of MPs receiving abuse on social media. Luciana has gone public on just how many anti-Semitic tweets she has received. She is so frightened that she has reported the matter to the police repeatedly. It’s really rough being an MP – Jess Phillips had to fit extra security measures to her house and tweet photos of herself doing so because meatheads were sending her insulting tweets and yesterday former TV presenter, barrister and Strong Woman Anna Soubry was on Radio 4 accusing the Torygraph of putting her life at risk because they ran a headline referring to ‘The Brexit Mutineers’. Anna explained that after that headline was published, she received death threats on twitter and the connection was obvious – mutineers are, well mutineers, they mutinied and killed people. I saw a little boy dressed up in a Pirate’s outfit the other day. I tell you, I was terrified. However because I am not an MP I wasn’t give media time to tell everyone how frightened I was.

Between June 2005-May 2006 Huw Irranca-Davies was PPS to none other than paedophiles’ friend and Blair’s biggest fan Tessa Jowell at the Dept of Culture, Media and Sport. Tessa who had worked as a child care officer in Lambeth when the kids were attacked by paedophiles and were also sent to north Wales children’s homes where they were yet again attacked by paedophiles whilst Lambeth Borough Council ignored it all; Tessa who had been a psychiatric social worker at the Maudsley which was concealing the abuse of children and mental health patients – and where Dafydd had worked and had connections; Tessa who was Deputy Director of MIND whilst MIND had links with PIE and held a conference which included a session on paedophiles’ rights and concealed the wrongdoing of Dafydd et al in north Wales. For more details of Tessa’s previous see post ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’.  By the time that Huw was bag carrier for Tessa, Tessa’s husband David Mills was doing favours for Blair’s mate Silvio Berlusconi which would have landed Mills in prison had he not maxed out the Italian appeals system and then exploited a legal loophole (see post ‘The London Connection’).

Huw was also PPS to an unidentified Minister at the DWP – I suspect that it was Jane Kennedy.

Between June 2007-October 2008 Irranca-Davies was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales. The NHS is devolved but I’m sure that Huw will have heard about the chaos in the NHS in north Wales and who knows Huw might even have known that by then the brother-in-law of Blair’s Director of Operations John McTernan had made off with my computer.

Huw moved on to work as an Environment Minister in DEFRA – presumably alongside Jane Kennedy when she was there. After Gordon Brown lost the election, Huw became Minister for Energy in the Shadow Cabinet.

Huw was certainly a busy man whilst he was in Westminster. He tells us that he was involved in many All Party Groups, including those for Citizens Advice, Coalfield Communities, Universities and Children in Wales! Huw was co-chair for the Patient and Public Involvement in Health and Social Care Group. So Huw will know a great deal about many of the horrors discussed on this blog – and he’ll be well aware of what a travesty ‘service user involvement’ is.

Unlike so many of those who are now Ready To Serve, Huw hasn’t tried to shaft Jeremy Corbyn – in fact Huw nominated Jezza as a candidate in the Labour leadership election in 2015.

It was in 2015 when after all those years of the National Assembly awaiting him that Huw finally heard the call of Cardiff Bay  and realised that was where his heart lay – after all, at that time everybody was maintaining that Jeremy was never going to lead the Labour Party to victory and why would Huw want to waste his time in opposition in Westminster when there’s a Labour Gov’t in Wales? Huw’s opportunity soon arose when Ray Powell’s daughter Janice Gregory stood down as the AM for Ogmore. Did Janice pack the sort of punch that her dad did? Not really.

The Western Mail declared Janice to be a ‘well below par performer’ during the 2003-07 Assembly term. But Janice seems to have been a well below par performer before that – after her dad died there was even speculation that she might not be reselected. But she was and because she had a safe seat she was able to continue performing well below par in the National Assembly for many more years, until someone decided that Huw needed a helping hand.

How did Janice get into a position in which she was able to pursue a career performing well below par? Well from 1991 Janice worked as political secretary for her dad. That was the year of the Great Stuffing Over of me and a number of my friends who knew what had happened to me at the hands of Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends – the year in which there was an attempt to frame me for a serious crime, with which St George’s Hospital Medical School was complicit (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London’), the year in which two of my friends who worked in the media had their careers ruined….

As a result of working for her dad, Janice will have been party to a great deal of information – including information about the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Janice was also active in the local constituency Labour Party, was of course wimmin’s officer for the Party and Chair of Ogmore Wimmin’s Forum. Janice’s wiki mentions that ‘several other family members were active in Labour politics’. Yes I bet that family ran fucking Ogmore.

Janice was elected to the Assembly in 1999 as part of the first cohort of AMs and was appointed Labour Group Whip! But Janice soon had a hissy fit and resigned the Whip in Feb 2000 – which was the month that the Waterhouse Report was published! Janice didn’t resign as a result of that – or at least she didn’t say that she did. Janice resigned in Feb 2000 because in Feb 2000 Blair’s mate Alun Michael resigned as First Minister! But then the only person who had wanted Alun Michael to be FM anyway was Blair. Janice resigned the Whip along with unidentified others on the grounds that Andrew Davies AM had plotted to remove Alun Michael. Janice, I think that Alun Michael might have resigned for some other reason.

However Andrew Davies is someone who it’s worth writing a few lines about. Between 2002-07 Andrew Davies was Minister for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks. At the time Andrew had been doing a lot of networking himself with that other great networker Meri Huws aka the Crack of Doom (see post ‘Let Me Enlighten Lord Gnome…’) and they had an affair. It all kicked off at the National Eisteddfod and it even made the Western Mail. Such things shouldn’t actually matter, but what with Meri being Meri, allegations swirled that Meri was shagging Davies in order to land her next Gov’t job. The rumours wouldn’t go away and on one occasion Davies even felt obliged to joke to a group of Daily Post reporters that he hadn’t got Meri her job – Meri had just been appointed to yet another position that everyone knew that she should not have been, I think it was a position on the Welsh Language Board. Andrew Davies later became Minister for Social Justice and Public Service Delivery – that went well didn’t it – and then in July 2007 Davies was appointed Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery. Davies subsequently had a serious heart problem and stood down from the Assembly. He is now a Professor at Swansea University – he had been the AM for Swansea West and was a graduate of Swansea University.

Janice did not only get angry with Meri’s bedfellow. Janice had been very cross with Ron Davies as well and called on him to resign when it was revealed that he had applied for jobs outside politics without informing the Labour leadership. I don’t think that Ron was going to take any notice, he tried to make a comeback after that business with Boogie on Clapham Common and still persisted after he was caught ‘looking for badgers’ at a well-known cruising and dogging spot a few years later. Ron is now a member of Caerphilly County Council and his ex-wife Christina Rees has been Labour MP for Neath since 2015. Not only that, but in Feb 2017 Jezza appointed Christina as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales!  Christina is a barrister who was married for many years to a man who did some very interesting things, but Christina’s wiki entry is surprisingly brief, concentrating on her time as head girl at school and her love of sports.

Janice was the Chair of the Assembly’s Social Justice and Regeneration Committee. Ah well it had been acknowledged that she was a well below par performer – although how the Western Mail managed to identify her among all the other well below par performers I do not know.

The man whom Janice made way for, Huw Irranca-Davies, has been busy writing articles for the web. He really churns them out. One of his articles received pride of place on the World Wildlife Fund site. Huw wrote another article regarding the necessity of killing Muntjac deer. Obviously that wasn’t one of the articles that Huw wrote for the WWF.

Some years ago the Western Mail announced that Huw was Wales’s sexiest man. I really had never noticed. Interestingly enough, the Daily Post Online made a very similar comment about Ken Skates AM the other day. Ken Skates is someone else who knows nuzzing about a paedophile gang that operated on his doorstep.

Ken Skates and Huw Irranca-Davies both consistently tell the journalists who write silly flattering profiles of them that they have no interest at all in becoming First Minister. They are of course just Ready To Serve.

Carwyn’s going to find himself sleeping with the fishes at this rate.

As for other news – the media in Wales are running reports about huge drugs raids by the police across north and mid-Wales last night. Numerous people have been arrested in a major operation involving the North Wales Police as well as police from Liverpool and Manchester. The news reports are claiming that a few Mr Bigs have been arrested. Oh well, that will have interrupted the supplies to the CAIS peer support workers who are busy distributing the goodies across north Wales – who knows a few CAIS peer support workers might now be in the cells. Dafydd and Lucille will need to recruit some more to replace those that have been taken out of circulation. I look forward to seeing adverts for CAIS volunteers over the next few weeks. Perhaps Jane Kennedy the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner could comment on why drug dealing has flourished in Liverpool since she was elected in 2012. No doubt north Wales’s very own Arfon Jones the paedophiles’ friend will appear in the Daily Post within days with a few words of wisdom.

Daily Post Online reported that some public spirited students from Glyndwr University have held a Pyjama Party to raise money to enable them to help homeless and vulnerable people on Merseyside who are going without basics. Well as Sir David Henshaw cleaned Liverpool City Council out with his golden goodbye, Liverpool won’t have any money left for people in need, so it’ll be down to students to plug the gap.

The Menai Science Park on Anglesey is now gearing up for business and has named the first businesses who have agreed to locate themselves in the Science Park. The Director of the Science Park is none other than the former leader of Plaid, former Deputy First Minister of Wales, former AM for Ynys Mon, a solicitor who managed to ignore the abuse of children in care and the abuse of mental health patients although it was happening in front of him for decades, Ieuan Wyn Jones. Ieuan had another go at being a politician a few months ago but no-one voted for him so he’s making do with being the Director of the flagship science park. The Science Park is in partnership with Bangor University which has just won an award for being a ‘sustainable university’. I’m not quite sure how sustainable parts of Bangor University are – some people who work there are great, but there’s certainly a major problem with those bits of the University which are associated with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Daily Post Online also ran a feature on the cancer research team at the University. I don’t know any members of that team, but I couldn’t help noticing that their work is funded by Cancer Research UK, an organisation now led by the crooks that I witnessed in action in the late 1980s (see post ‘A Cause Close To Our Hearts’) and goes under the umbrella of North West Cancer, an organisation which has been recently questioned by some political bloggers in Wales.

Today has been Budget Day. I’ve been too busy working on this post to listen to the details of Spreadsheet Phil’s miracle, but I did overhear a few headlines at lunchtime. Phil is rolling out classes in basic maths – which I think is a good idea, because it might stop innumerate politicians misunderstanding the propaganda of Top Doctors and Angels. I do hope that Phil is going to send the nation’s judges to the arithmetic lessons as well, because perhaps then innocent people will not be jailed for murder because the likes of Sir Roy Meadow have chosen to make up ludicrous statistics in their capacity as expert witnesses. However I fear that Spreadsheet Phil’s maths lessons are somewhat belated – he has given many more millions to the NHS and I heard him making comments about those nurses who look after us all. Like the nurses who looked after Michael Carr at Walton Hospital presumably. Some of them will still be on the loose in the NHS.

The stream of revelations about sexual harassment in high places continues. There was an item on the Today programme this morning concerning ‘unwanted hugs’. I’ll tell you where one finds unwanted hugs – service user groups for wimmin. I gave up frequenting such events many years ago because of – as well as all the other fuckwittery – the very worrying manner in which female service users were constantly implored to hug and cuddle each other because it was considered to be of therapeutic benefit for some unexplained reason. Some of these service users were women who had been sexually assaulted, sometimes whilst in the care system. Wimmin who did not wish to participate in the hugging and cuddling were identified as ‘having problems’. I cannot think of a better way of rendering women who might have good reason not to want to be groped vulnerable to groping than telling them that there’s something wrong with them if they refuse unwanted physical contact and package that contact as being therapeutic. A few years ago I carried out an experiment. I had heard worrying anecdotes about a wimmins group for service users in north east Wales called KIM – this is an acronym for the truly vomit-inducing full name of ‘Kindness In Mind’. So some four years ago I popped along to a meeting of KIM. I had never witnessed so much hugging in one place in one morning. Lest readers dismiss me as a crusty old cow who doesn’t understand friendship, the hugging was not just going on between good friends. At least four people tried to hug me and they’d never clapped eyes on me before. Furthermore, the hugging was indeed being encouraged by the rather questionable group ‘leaders’. KIM’s client group is wimmin who have mental health problems – particularly problems that have arisen from sexual abuse. But who’s going to see the harm in pathological hugging when no-one even investigated after five patients made statements saying that they’d had a sexual relationship with Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and whilst he was co-habiting with two female patients at once?

The meeting at KIM was advertised as an activity session. The activity in question was making a plasticine pig. A pink one of course, because after all the group was for wimmin. Someone who described herself as a ceramic artist – I foolishly thought that we might get Wrexham’s answer to Grayson Perry – arrived and spent a whole hour showing a roomful of grown wimmin how to make a plasticine pig ‘to hang on your handbag’. The pigs weren’t even fired in an oven or painted, probably because that would have been far too dangerous for wimmin service users to undertake. I have heard that male service users have complained that KIM is discriminatory because they only offer a service to wimmin. I told one man that he really wasn’t missing anything by not making a plasticine pig for his handbag and I theorised that no-one would dare offer such nonsense to a group of men. In return he told me how he had been invited to an occupational therapy session at the Hergest Unit, run not by the occupational therapist – who was actually very good – but by a nursing assistant, where he was told to draw ‘the tree of life’. He had no idea what that was, so he asked the nursing assistant – again – what he was supposed to do. Once more he was told to draw the tree of life, only this time the nursing assistant shouted at him to draw the tree of life. He left the room, none the wiser. So if you’re a woman it’s plasticine pigs and if you’re a man it’s the tree of life. If any readers happen to know what the tree of life actually is, I’d be most interested to hear.

I’m glad to say that Radio 4 has recently been promoting the therapeutic use of colouring books for people with mental health problems. Lest they become overexcited with the plasticine pigs and the tree of life. I expect that someone has done a clinical trial somewhere.

There are far more exciting things happening at Cardiff University than colouring in, although it could well have been their Top Doctors who carried out the clinical trial. Yesterday BBC News Wales Online reported that Cardiff’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Riordan has declared himself bisexual. I’m not sure why – it’s not really anyone’s business but his own, but Prof Riordan not only felt the need to come out, but he wrote a letter to everyone in the University explaining that he was bisexual. Cardiff University was then festooned in flags and banners to show the world how positive it is about bisexual people. Colin Riordan might not know this, but a lot of people are going to be having a good laugh at his claims that Cardiff is a university which welcomes bisexual people, because of the long-standing conduct of a member of his staff, who has recently been awarded a Chair at Cardiff despite a very threadbare CV with not very many not very impressive publications and only very modest grant capture. The man in question is notorious across Wales because of his penchant for wearing a navy blue blazer which makes him look like an aspiring Tory MP and for getting drunk at events to which he is invited and then propositioning people of both genders. I and a group of friends witnessed him in action a few years ago. It was only 8pm, we were still in the post-conference restaurant not having yet finished dinner when a horrified male PhD student told us that he’d just been followed into the gents and propositioned by that ‘pompous idiot from Cardiff’.

The big world news story is of course the resignation of Robert Mugabe and the national party that Zimbabwe has thrown to celebrate. Perhaps the British Army could take a leaf out of the book of Zimbabwe and place Theresa under house arrest until she agrees to thrown in the towel.

This afternoon I heard that Ratko Mladic the Bosnian Serb Commander has been sentenced to life at The Hague for the 1990s Srebrenica massacre. I await Blair’s trial for war crimes. Or indeed for systematically surrounding himself with and then promoting to high office people who had knowledge of organised crime within the child care system and NHS.

There will be another post soon concerning others whom Blair promoted, but I need to just clear up the mess left behind from that horse’s head that I discovered in my bed earlier…

Workers’ Play Time

I have mentioned in previous posts and comments that in 1993 I wrote to the UK’s most high profile radical barrister Michael Mansfield at his chambers in Tooks Court about the mental health services in north Wales. I had just been prosecuted – yet again – at the insistence of the mental health services for ‘staring at a social worker in Safeways’. I was fined £60 by Bangor Magistrates Court. The social worker concerned, Jackie Brandt, a member of the delightful Arfon Community Mental Health Team, had previously illegally detained me, refused to investigate my complaints – as had her boss Lucille Hughes – and perjured herself in an attempt to have me imprisoned. Brandt had alleged to the police that I had screamed and yelled at her in Safeways, swore at her and threatened her. She admitted under cross-examination in Court that I hadn’t done any of these things, but I had ‘looked at her’, indeed at one point ‘stared’. Brandt then started crying. No-one asked any questions about why Brandt had felt able to lie in a statement to the police, lie again in Court and only admit that she had lied when my solicitor questioned her. Instead Bangor Magistrates deemed that by looking at Brandt I had breached the Public Order Act. The Act in question had been passed by Thatcher’s Gov’t to criminalise the striking miners in the 1984 dispute but was being widely used to prosecute anyone for anything. Mansfield mentioned the abuse of this Act in his 1993 book ‘Presumed Guilty’, which is why I wrote to him.

I did receive a reply from Michael Mansfield himself – he simply wrote me a couple of lines thanking me for my letter and saying ‘it is always good to have support’. I didn’t think anymore of this at the time – I just presumed that Mansfield would be in receipt of huge quantities of mail from people having a hard time and that he’d be busy defending the Birmingham Six or something. I missed a few things at the time.

At that time Mary Wynch had just made legal history by suing Dr Dafydd Alun Jones, Risley Remand Centre and Clwyd Health Authority for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’). Mansfield will definitely have known about this case – not only because it made legal history and received widespread media coverage, but also because there’d been a TV documentary made about it ‘Who Will Listen To Mary Wynch?’ (by Elizabeth Clough, Jeremy Paxman’s partner at the time) and because Mansfield’s longstanding friend and colleague Gareth Peirce, the radical solicitor, worked – as did Paul Boateng, Imran Khan and John Wadham (who became the Director of Liberty) – in Birnberg and Co, the solicitors that represented Mary. Gareth Peirce later became a senior partner in what became Birnberg Peirce and Partners. Benedict Birnberg himself retired in 1999 – just before the publication of the Waterhouse Report. Birnberg was also co-secretary of War On Want. At the time that I wrote to Mansfield, allegations of a paedophile ring operating in Cheshire and north Wales involving public figures including politicians and civil servants had appeared in the London based media. Allegations of a cover-up reaching to the highest levels of Gov’t were being made, a police investigation had been launched but had found ‘no evidence’ of the involvement of people in high places, an independent investigation by John Jillings of the abuse of children in the care of Clwyd County Council had been ordered and Alison Taylor -a social worker from Gwynedd – had blown the whistle loudly on the abuse of children in care in north Wales only to be sacked from her job by Lucille Hughes. The year before I wrote to Mansfield, Alison had appeared in a TV documentary with former residents of children’s homes in north Wales alleging abuse of kids in care and they had named a senior police officer with the North Wales Police, Gordon Anglesea, as one of the abusers. By the time that I wrote to Mansfield, Anglesea was suing the media outlets who had named him for libel. Michael Mansfield’s partner Yvette Vanson was a TV producer – it was her colleague Tony Wardle who co-wrote ‘Presumed Guilty’ with Mansfield. They will not have missed the havoc in north Wales. Mansfield had then received a letter from someone living near Bangor supplying him with details of the most extraordinary abuse of the law by Gwynedd Social Services involving collusion by the North Wales Police, Bangor Magistrates Court and the CPS… Did his antennae really not twitch?

A few days ago, I read Michael Mansfield’s 2009 book, ‘Memoirs of a Radical Lawyer’.

Mansfield established his chambers Tooks Court in 1984 as a collective. I don’t know what was going on there, but Mansfield admits in his book that their senior clerk walked out in response to the ‘arrogance’ and ‘demands’ of the barristers at Tooks. The radical socialist barristers who were fighting for the common man…

Sadly, rather than genuinely radical barristers, Tooks was hosting some unscrupulous hypocrites of the highest order. Helena Kennedy QC worked there – the Helena who worked closely with corrupt psychiatrist Professor Nigel Eastman from St George’s Hospital Medical School. Eastman was not only concealing and colluding with wrongdoing at St George’s and Springfield Hospital (the psychiatric unit attached to St George’s), but he also colluded with those we know and love in north Wales in 1991 when he was faced with evidence of their criminal activities (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London…’). Helena also will have known about the abuse of women patients in the special hospitals, many of whom had already been abused as kids in care and as mental health patients – no, she didn’t say a word. I bet she knew about Jimmy Savile’s activities at Broadmoor as well. Please read my post ‘Eve Was Framed – As Were A Lot Of Other People’ for further details regarding St Helena.

Patricia Scotland QC worked at Tooks. Patricia Scotland was involved in the Waterhouse Inquiry. Did Patsy represent any of the kids who’d been abused whilst in care in north Wales? No. Patsy was the QC who represented the Welsh Office. The Welsh Office who ignored complaints that children were being terribly abused, the Welsh Office who were failing to carry out regular inspections of children’s homes even after staff in the homes had been convicted of sexual and physical assaults on children in their care, the Welsh Office who employed corrupt lawyer Andrew Park who advised the mental health services as to how to mount prosecutions against me and how to avoid investigating my complaints, the Welsh Office which employed the corrupt Medical Ombudsman Professor Robert Owen who – along with Professor Robert Bluglass and Dr Colin Berry – concealed the criminal activities of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and Dr Tony Francis (Dr X). Patsy’s sterling work on behalf of the Welsh Office involved cross-examining the witnesses – the people who had been abused – so harshly that some of them became so distressed that they needed medical attention whilst others were unable to walk out of the building unaided. Details of Patsy’s glorious career as a black woman barrister who is completely dedicated to helping the unfortunate can be read in posts ‘Baroness Patricia Scotland Was On Board As Well!’, More On Baroness Patricia Scotland QC – And Her Very Sleazy Friends’ and ‘Even More About Baroness Patricia Scotland QC’.

Another alumnus of Tooks was Constance Briscoe, who like Patsy made much of being black and in possession of ovaries. After making it as far as a judge presiding over mental health and child care cases, Briscoe was imprisoned for perjury. Briscoe’s mate Vicky Pryce and Pryce’s former husband Lib Dem MP Chris Huhne were also imprisoned, but unlike Briscoe and Huhne who’s careers were finished off, dear old Vicky returned to work as a Gov’t economist after she’d served her stretch and can be heard regularly on the BBC. Vicky also wrote a misery memoir about her time in prison, from the perspective of an oppressed woman.

Vera Baird QC, another well-known radical feminist lawyer, also worked at Tooks. Years later in her capacity as Solicitor General in Gordon Brown’s Gov’t, Vera assisted Charlie Falconer in withdrawing virtually all legal aid in cases where people had had their lives wrecked by the state.

Many of the Tooks lawyers were networked to fellow lawyer Cherie Booth and when Cherie’s husband Tony Blair became PM he gave a lot of them peerages.

Friends and colleagues of Mansfield et al at Tooks included other big names among radical barristers, such as Stephen Sedley, Anthony Scrivener and Anthony Gifford.

I am the first to admit that Mansfield and some of his colleagues have done some excellent work. They have successfully helped some victims of terrible miscarriages of justice such as the Guildford Four and the Birmingham Six and I know someone who has worked with Lord Gifford fighting for prisoners on death row in Jamaica. Some of those people would be dead without Tony Gifford. But again and again, I notice that the radical barristers just do not touch cases involving people who have been abused by the state child care system or the mental health system in the UK. In fact no-one will take those cases. Birnberg and Co did fight for Mary Wynch initially – but Mary’s problems did not end when she won her case. Clwyd Health Authority et al then refused to stump up the damages, Mary ended up having to go into hiding, the property and money of which she was fleeced by Dr Dafydd Alun Jones et al was never returned to her and she was finally ruined by the Home Office under Michael Howard in 1995. At which point she was never heard of again – the few people who had fought for her and publicised her case fell silent.

I can only speculate that the problem is as this blog has detailed ie. that the corruption involving the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal and related events reaches to such a high level – including the most senior members of the judiciary – that even Mansfield and Gareth Peirce won’t touch it. Perhaps they know that their own careers will be ruined if they take those cases. Perhaps they are simply too frightened – they will know that numerous witnesses to the north Wales case were found dead after complaining or giving evidence and in the case of the five witnesses who were killed in an arson attack in 1992, even the Court returned a verdict of ‘unlawful killing’ (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’). The cynic in me observes that the radical lawyers had close connections to the inner London boroughs whose Councils were running the children’s homes where paedophiles had infiltrated and that those Councils were also sending children on placement to homes in north Wales. Paul Boateng’s own wife was a social worker and Councillor in Lambeth, which had one of the biggest problems with abuse of children in care in the UK. Those boroughs also pioneered community law centres, in which some of the radical lawyers worked when they were very young – they were not going to effectively represent people who had been abused by the staff of the organisation funding the law centre.

It was easier for Michael Mansfield and Gareth Peirce to represent clients like the Price sisters who proudly admitted to blowing up part of London than to represent people who had been raped by paedophiles employed as social workers and then unlawfully imprisoned and abused again by Top Doctors employed as psychiatrists.

It is clear from Michael Mansfield’s memoir that he has encountered the results of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal – and child abuse by the state in other regions of the UK – and the abuse of psychiatry many times. Michael Mansfield spends time talking to and listening to people who have been crapped on by the state – he believes what they say as well and is acutely aware of just what the state will do to get itself out of trouble when little people have witnessed or gained evidence of wrongdoing by people in high places. Mansfield is also sensitive and intelligent enough to know that even when he is hearing a truly bizarre story from someone disorientated, there may well be much truth in the story and it’s that which he must identify. Interestingly Mansfield learnt this as a young man by talking to psychiatric patients from Friern Barnet Hospital when he had a job emptying the bins there – he was hearing hair-raising anecdotes and he gradually started to realise that the nutters were telling the truth about a great many matters. I noticed this phenomenon myself. I heard the most extraordinary things from patients that the Top Doctors and Angels tripped over themselves to dismiss as delusions and psychotic ramblings – and I watched and I listened and I realised that a great deal of what I was being told was true.

There used to be a number of people wandering around north Wales – I say used to be, because they have now nearly all died as a result of neglect from the mental health services – who claimed to have worked as prostitutes or groupies and to have had sex with a variety of well-known people or local bigwigs. These people were universally dismissed by the people paid to care for them as being ‘difficult’, having ‘upset people’ or being ‘troublemakers’. These insults were used to justify extreme neglect and even unlawful refusal of ‘services’. The people being left to die had all lived through the paedophile years in north Wales when vulnerable people – particularly kids in care and psychiatric patients – were sexually abused and exploited and trafficked into sex work. I know that this went on, I know some of the people who were doing it and I know that at least some of the people who were named by these virtually destitute patients were indeed sexually using vulnerable people. As Jimmy Savile knew, if you want to sexually assault people and get away with it sexually assault kids in care, learning disabled people or people labelled as having mental health problems. Not only will you get away with it but if your victims dare tell anyone what you have done they will be punished all over again by whoever it is ‘looking after’ them. And the Top Doctors will assist you by pouring venom upon your victims like there is no tomorrow.

Mansfield’s book mentions that he worked on behalf of people who were in trouble with the law for drug use. He’ll have known that there were both high levels of police corruption in the drug squads and that some Top Doctors working in the field were essentially dealers, often to rich elites. No doubt Mansfield also knew about the corruption in the Home Office Drugs Branch responsible for the oversight of controlled drugs (see post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’). Mansfield mentions Bernie Simons, an associate of Dr Ann Dally, dealer to the stars. I haven’t been able to find out who Bernie Simons was, but from what Mansfield says he seems to have been a solicitor as well as a drugs campaigner.

Throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s, Risley Remand centre served as the personal prison of Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends. Huge numbers of the prisoners there had passed through the north Wales children’s homes or mental health services. Mary Wynch was detained there unlawfully and I know of at least one other mental health patient in north Wales who was as well. The brutality at Risley was legendary and the suicide rate astronomical. I know three people – all mental health patients – who were in Risley in the 80s. They related accounts of hearing the screams of other prisoners at night as they were beaten up by the warders and of being assaulted by the warders themselves. One man had been left in complete darkness in his cell for a number of days after a prison officer removed the light bulb because the prisoner had complained about the bulb flickering on and off. The same man had been detained in Risley after the North Wales Drug Squad had framed he and his wife and assaulted him. Whilst he was in Risley he maintains that he was visited by an unidentified senior detective from London who tried to interrogate him about offences of which he knew nothing. The detective became angry with him, told him that there was no point questioning him because ‘you’re fucking mad’ and threw him back in his cell. This man was subsequently transferred to the ‘care’ of Dafydd in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh – where he stayed for a year. His complaints about the North Wales Police were never investigated. Another man described sharing a cell with a suicidal man who was trying to injure himself – the man whom I knew rang and rang for help but no-one answered the bell. His cell mate succeeded in killing himself and the man whom I spoke to was left alone in the cell with the corpse for some time. I was friendly with a lady who fostered a young man with mental health and drug problems. At the age of 18 he was detained in Risley – when my friend went to visit him he was visibly injured after a beating by the officers. My friend challenged the officers and was met with one of them boasting about how much he enjoyed beating the ‘little bastards’ up. There were some prisoners in Risley who were serious offenders, but there were many more who had been accused of trivial crimes but had been detained there on the orders of Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends ‘for psychiatric assessment’. Some like Mary Wynch had not committed any crime at all.

The wrongdoing at Risley permeated levels higher than the thugs employed as prison officers. The Waterhouse Report mentions the panel having sight of a letter allegedly written by a prisoner in Risley to Lucille Hughes in support of Nefyn and June Dodd, the managers of Ty’r Felin children’s home in Bangor. The Dodds were tremendously cruel to children in their care and the kids from that home were being trafficked to London and other locations for prostitution. Even Sir Ronnie Waterhouse accepted that the letter was forged and had not been written by the prisoner – a former resident of Ty’r Felin – at all. Not that Ronnie asked any questions, this was just another incident that was dismissed without investigation. So someone at Risley went to the trouble of forging a letter from a prisoner to Lucille Hughes at a time when the Dodds were under investigation and allegations of a paedophile ring operating in the children’s homes in north Wales were appearing in the media.

My own medical records provide evidence of corruption at Risley. In 1987 Dafydd Alun Jones told me over the telephone that if I didn’t drop my complaints about him he’d have me imprisoned in Risley. Brown heard this phone call as well. I ignored Dafydd’s threats and continued to try to pursue my complaints. Some months later a junior doctor working for Dafydd at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh made a statement to the police maintaining that I had tried to stab him – I was arrested and taken to Bangor Police Station. He claimed that I had pulled a knife out of my pocket and had brought the knife down upon him as though to stab him and the only reason that he wasn’t stabbed by me was that a male nurse had dragged me off him. The male nurse who allegedly rescued this junior doctor from my murderous attempt made a statement about the same incident. His statement maintained that I had shouted at the junior doctor because no-one was investigating my complaints about Dafydd et al – which was true. The nurse explained that I had a camping knife in my possession – this was in the days when camping knives could be legally purchased and held (yes, I was in north Wales camping at the time) – but I did not withdraw the knife, no-one saw the knife and I certainly didn’t try to stab anyone with it. Whilst I was at the police station, colleagues of Dafydd Alun Jones rang the police claiming that I had threatened to kill them. The custody sergeant was good enough to refuse to take their statements there and then and told me that ‘they’re all conspiring against you up there’. I later complained to the NHS about these events and observed to Alun Davies the corrupt manager of the mental health services that the custody sergeant had made this comment. Davies bellowed at me down the phone that he’d be ‘having a word with the police’ about that sergeant. The sergeant, Sgt Morgan, was some months later arrested and charged with indecently assaulting a teenaged girl in custody. Bangor Magistrates Court found him guilty and he was sacked from the North Wales Police. Before the police released me, Dafydd turned up at the police station, although he didn’t explain what he was doing there. Dafydd’s visit was very brief and involved him saying to me ‘I think ewe should be in prison’. The next day I returned to Leicester, where I was living at the time.

My complaint about the whole saga was never investigated and the junior doctor who lied in his statement to the police was never investigated either. Many years later when I finally obtained my medical records, I found a copy of a letter that had been written by an NHS administrator at Ysbyty Gwynedd at the time which stated that I was ‘now in Risley Remand Centre after stabbing someone with a knife’. Not only that, but there was a copy of a letter from the Mental Health Act Commission to the mental health services in north Wales, stating that as I was now in Risley Remand Centre they would write a letter to my home address in Leicester in response to my complaints about Dafydd et al.

I was never charged with attacking anyone with a knife. I had not appeared in Court in relation to attacking anyone with a knife and no request was made to any court at that time to have me remanded in Risley. So the Mental Health Act Commission cannot possibly have received any official documentation stating that this had happened. They had obviously just been told by one of their mates in the north Wales NHS – a mate who hadn’t realised that Dafydd’s plan had gone pear-shaped – that I was now safely in a cell in Risley, so of course a letter concerning my previous very serious complaints about Dafydd et al could be sent to my home address where the Mental Health Act Commission thought that I wasn’t. Problem dealt with. No investigation, patient framed and imprisoned for a serious offence, complaints about Dafydd’s previous criminal activities kicked into the long grass.

This whole sequence of events suggests corruption in the NHS, in Risley Remand Centre and in the Mental Health Act Commission. There was never an investigation into any of it or any of the people involved. People who included Dafydd, Dr Tony Francis (Dr X), Janice Davies (Dafydd’s henchwoman at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh), a Dr Ponnampalam, a Dr Khalid Siddiqui and David Ewart at the Mental Health Act Commission. Four years ago I discovered that Khalid Siddiqui was employed as an ‘independent doctor’ in the south east of England assessing people under the Mental Health Act. He is probably still doing this and getting paid handsomely for it.

In May 1989 Risley finally exploded in the form of a prison riot. A group of prisoners trashed a wing – not that there was much worth trashing, it wasn’t the Ritz – and a roof-top protest lasting three days took place. Michael Mansfield defended one of the leaders of the riot (not a man from north Wales). I remember Michael Mansfield writing in the press at the time about the appalling conditions, brutality and corruption at Risley. Mansfield’s client may not have come from north Wales, but I bet that Mansfield knew what was going on at Risley – as will have the other lawyers who worked with him on the case, Tim Owen and Jeremy Hawthorne – because of his habit of chatting at length to numerous people and knowing when he is hearing about corruption in high places. The jury acquitted the rioters at Risley. At the time of the Risley riot, the Home Secretary was Douglas Hurd, who was later replaced by David Waddington – members of the Gov’t who were wilfully ignoring the criminal misconduct that they were told was going on in north Wales.

Michael Mansfield came up against someone else who was networked into Dafydd and the paedophiles’ friends when he represented Mohamed Al Fayed at the inquests of Dodi and Diana – Lord Thomas Scott Baker. Scott Baker had previously sat as a judge on the Chester and Wales Circuit and in 1995 had imprisoned a highly vulnerable woman, Susan Brooke, who had passed through the North Wales Hospital who had undoubtedly crossed the paths of the paedophiles’ friends (see posts ‘So Who’s Path Had Susan Brooke Crossed?’, ‘More On The Susan Brooke Case’ and ‘Update On The Cases Of Susan Brooke And Sara Thornton’). How Scott Baker ever made the career move from being a paedophiles’ friend in north Wales to the coroner holding the inquests of Dodi and Di I do not know – particularly as the inquests of Dodi and Di were the first inquests that Scott Baker had ever conducted. Press comment at the time suggested that Scott Baker had been specifically brought in for the inquests because he was the one person who was thought to be capable of standing up to Michael Mansfield.

Think about this. Mansfield is clever, has been around a long time, knew about north Wales and Risley and always does his homework well. He will have made it his business to rifle through Scott Baker’s undies before the inquests – and he will have known that Scott Baker had previously worked on the shamefully corrupt Chester and Wales Circuit and had been involved in the Susan Brooke case. As with the case of the paedophiles at the heart of Thatcher’s Gov’t, Mansfield could have really dug up the dirt on Scott Baker and used it. He didn’t. Perhaps because Scott Baker was in a position to throw even more dirt at Mansfield – dirt suggesting that Mansfield and his famous freedom fighters had remained silent about a viscious paedophile ring linked to organised crime which had resulted in the framing and imprisonment of scores of innocent people, the deaths of a great many witnesses and the collusion of some of Mansfield’s friends and colleagues.

Michael Mansfield knows how low the Top Doctors and those who care will stoop if they feel that it is necessary. Mansfield represented Angela Cannings, a mother wrongly convicted and imprisoned for the death of two of her children, on the basis of the ‘expert evidence’ provided by Sir Roy Meadow. Meadow was a paediatrician who managed to invent a new psychiatric diagnosis – Munchausens by Proxy – and also managed to make up some statistics which he then spouted off whilst in the witness box. No-one questioned him until a number of mothers had been wrongly imprisoned for killing their children. A number of real statisticians then came forward and demonstrated very clearly that Meadow didn’t know his arse from his elbow and a number of innocent people were subsequently released from prison. The most famous example was Sally Clark, a solicitor who’s character had been absolutely trashed by the Top Doctors after two of her children died in infancy. Sally was imprisoned and although she was released on appeal in 2003, she had been so destroyed by her experience that she died not long after release. Not that this was enough for the Top Doctors. After Sally Clark was released, Top Doctor Professor David Southall – another expert in Munchausens by Proxy – on the basis of no evidence at all then named Sally Clark’s husband as the murderer of the children. Probably because his eyes were too close together. Meadow and Southall were eventually disciplined by the GMC, but a rearguard action was supported by their colleagues -particularly in the case of Southall – and many articles sympathetic to them appeared in the liberal media, reminding us that Southall was a Brave Doctor Who Cared About Children. The fact that in the case of Sally Clark a pathologist actually discovered that one of her children had died of an infection but chose not to mention this before or during the trial was not discussed in the Southall-supporting media. Meadow and Southall both maxed out the appeals process and were eventually reinstated as Top Doctors.

Mansfield also defended Barry George, the man with a number of vulnerabilities who was found guilty of the well-planned assassination of Jill Dando, although he was at a day centre several miles away when Jill Dando was shot dead outside of her house. Jill Dando was a reporter on ‘Crimewatch’, a programme which led to several miscarriages of justice, although the BBC didn’t make reference to that when they boasted about ‘Crimewatch’s’ success the other day. ‘Crimewatch’ was responsible for the conviction of Michael Stone, another case that many people find very troubling. There was no forensic evidence against Michael Stone whatever, but a Top Doctor watching ‘Crimewatch’ saw the episode featuring the murder of Lin and Megan Russell and rang in saying that it was just the sort of thing that his patient Stone would have done. Stone remains in prison many years later and continues to profess his innocence. Dando’s colleague on ‘Crimewatch’ Sue Cook was a close friend of George Carman QC, the crooked barrister who had many good friends who were gangsters or bent police officers (see posts ‘No Ordinary Methods’ and ‘No Ordinary Methods – Supplementary Post’).

Mansfield is not naïve. He knows that Top Doctors lie, particularly to cover their tracks after they have screwed up and he knows that Top Doctors who stick their necks out and challenge their colleagues are subjected to witch-hunts by the medical establishment. Mansfield is well-acquainted with the facts involved some of the most high profile child protection disasters that there have been since the 1970s, 80s and 90s and later. Yet staggeringly, he described Esther Rantzen as a ‘vociferous and committed’ campaigner, citing Childline as evidence. The Esther who ‘didn’t know’ about Jimmy Savile, who ‘didn’t know’ about her former bedfellow Sir Nicholas Fairbain, the Esther who’s sister worked as a social worker for Lambeth Social Services whilst it had one the worst records on child protection in the UK, the Esther who appointed her sister’s manager as Chief Exec of Childline. The Childline that was alleged to have ignored calls from children in care who were being abused. The Esther who then ran a mental health campaign and who ignored a letter that I sent her about the criminal activities of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones et al. But then Mansfield’s PA Susie Haig worked as a counsellor for Childline. So Susie probably heard the same story that I heard from Childline then – that Esther was so dreadful when speaking to the children that they had to work hard to ensure that she didn’t actually answer any calls herself when she was gracing Childline with her presence to drum up a bit of good PR.

Mansfield did a lot of work for the NUM during the miners strike of 1984 and also defended Arthur Scargill when Scargill was arrested. Mansfield and Scargill were friends and established the Socialist Labour Party together. My post ‘It’s All About Protecting Children’ described how Arthur Scargill shared a platform in Bangor a few years ago with a paedophiles’ friend and how this particular paedophiles’ friend has married a lady who has stood for the Socialist Labour Party in north Wales in General Elections. Mansfield had an excellent grip on the police corruption and the various dirty tricks used to frame and prosecute miners who had themselves been assaulted by the police.

It was at this time that Mansfield got together with the lady who was to become his wife for 30 years, documentary maker Yvette Vanson. Vanson and Mansfield lived in Yorkshire for a while, Vanson researching for and making her films and Mansfield defending the miners. Mansfield and Vanson became very well-networked into the community in Yorkshire via a man called Terry Dunn and they also had connections on the ground in south Wales. Like north Wales, Yorkshire had a major problem with police corruption, a paedophile ring – and a man called Jimmy Savile who was involved with both. Surely Mansfield and Vanson heard SOMETHING about all of this? Terry Dunn must have known – Mansfield tells us that after the strike, Dunn did a degree at the LSE and ‘fought for trade union rights’ via an unidentified charity in London. Mansfield was a lawyer and Vanson was a producer of TV documentaries about people having a hard time – people like Mansfield and Vanson are approached constantly by people who’ve been stuffed over asking for help. This even happened to me after I appeared in the media talking about the abuses of the mental health services and I’m not famous – but people rang me, they e mailed and they wrote. Anyone speaking publicly about the abuse of people who feel powerless definitely gets approached by people who’ve suffered at the hands of the oppressors.

It is to Yvette Vanson to whom I will now turn, because I suspect that Yvette Vanson knows so much she would be capable of writing a blog like this and she must have shared some of what she knew with Michael Mansfield.

Yvette Vanson went to the Royal College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, 1968-70 and also did a degree in social sciences at a later date. In 1979 Vanson landed a job with the BBC Community Programmes Unit with Mike Fentiman, only to find herself then blacklisted because of her previous involvement with the Workers Revolutionary Party (WRP). The BBC at the time was reputed to employ a member of MI5 who beavered away screening out undesirables and Vanson was one of them. So Vanson occupied herself doing other things for a few years, including producing training videos with Tony Wardle for East Sussex Social Services. Vanson is the sort of TV producer who gets to know her subject well, she too mixes and chats with people who are being exploited and abused. Vanson is not daft and her – extensive – work for East Sussex Social Services will have undoubtedly brought her face to face with bad practice, a dysfunctional social care system and neglect and abuse of clients. Vanson also made a documentary about the Mental Health Act – that was the Act which was drafted by Professor Robert Bluglass who two years later covered up the criminal activities of Dafydd and Dr Tony Francis which included breaking the law enshrined in that Act. Vanson worked in other areas of disability as well, which brought her into close contact with people from SCOPE and Leonard Cheshire – both organisations which have been accused of the abuse of vulnerable people. She will have known something.

Vanson took her film crew into Lambeth Town Hall when Lambeth Council workers were staging a sit-in – a Jim O’Brien was leading the workers’ protest. Ever think of mentioning what was happening to the kids in the care of Lambeth to the film crew then Jim?

Vanson made ‘Kentucky Fried Medicine’, a critique of the US healthcare system. She noticed only a ‘very, very few people who were willing to criticise and risk their jobs’. She’ll have noticed the same phenomenon in the UK NHS but she doesn’t mention that – Vanson made a documentary called ‘Stitching Up The NHS’.

In 1984, Vanson managed to find her way back into the BBC again, once more working with the BBC Community Programmes Unit and names Mike Fentimen and Tony Lye as people with whom she worked.

I have a friend who worked for the BBC in the late 80s and early 90s – in the documentary commissioning department. My friend maintained that the dept was openly corrupt and his boss had a huge row with him after my friend refused to accept bribes. My friend was told by this boss that he’d make sure that my friend would never work in London again. Weeks later my friend was transferred to Manchester and was made redundant shortly afterwards. The name of the BBC executive whom my friend alleged was involved? Paul Hayman. I was also told that Hayman had a huge in-tray on his desk full of ideas for commissions that documentary makers had sent in and that Hayman would invite chosen people into his office and tell them to take their pick of the other people’s ideas. Vanson mentions working with Paul Hayman when she produced ‘Presumed Guilty’ for BBC’s Inside Story.

The interview which Vanson gave from which I have obtained my information about her career didn’t mention the sort of rampant corruption witnessed by my friend at the BBC, but Vanson does talk about some people at the BBC editing her work to such an extent that the documentary was changed as well as the reluctance of certain people at the BBC to produce anything that the Gov’t might throw a hissy fit over. In the wake of Vanson’s documentary about the miners’ strike ‘Taking Liberties’, the BBC threatened to close the whole Community Programmes unit.

Vanson seemed to have been particularly irked by Liz Forgan, although when Forgan was getting on Yvette Vanson’s tits I think Forgan might have been working for Channel 4 – Vanson made documentaries for them as well. Liz Forgan is now Dame Liz. She was Editor of the Guardian Women’s pages 1978-82, then a Guardian columnist 1997-98 and then a non-executive director of the Guardian Media Group from 1998. Forgan was founding Commissioning Editor and then Director of Programmes at Channel 4, 1981-90. In 1993 she was appointed MD of BBC Network Radio, but she left the BBC in 1996 over a row with the DG John Birt concerning moving BBC Radio News from Broadcasting House to Television Centre. (Which seems an extraordinary thing to leave one’s job over – couldn’t Liz have resigned over Savile or all the corruption or something worthwhile?) Between 2001-08 Forgan was Chair of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund. In 2009 Dame Liz became Chair of the Arts Council of England – this was seen as a Labour Party appointment and Liz must have pissed a few other people off as well as Yvette Vanson, because in 2010 the Coalition Gov’t cut the Arts Council’s budget by nearly 30%. In 2003 Forgan was appointed Chair of the Scott Trust, the company which owns the Guardian Media Group and which is responsible for appointing the Editor of the Guardian.

Other notables as well as Liz have occupied the position of Chair of the Scott Trust. Hugo Young was in that role immediately prior to Liz – it was on Young’s watch that Alan Rusbridger who was Editor of the Guardian between 1995-2015 was appointed. The Chair before Young was Alistair Hetherington, who was appointed in 1984.

I first heard about Hetherington in 1982 from two of my friends who were studying film and media at Stirling University. They told me about a huge row that had blown up which had found its way into ‘The Scotsman’ – the University had appointed Hetherington, a journo, to a Research Chair. This was one of the first appointments by a UK university of a non-academic to a Chair and the fur flew. There were allegations that Stirling had only done this to toady to people in high places and that Hetherington had none of the qualities needed to successfully occupy the role. The students protested and my friends were signatories to the letter of protest that was sent to ‘The Scotsman’. Hetherington was appointed nonetheless – but it looks like my friends were right to have had their reservations, because Hetherington was never seen in the University, certainly didn’t do any research and buggered off in 1984 to Chair the Scott Trust. Whilst at the Scott Trust Hetherington received very serious grief from the NUJ. He supported Peter Preston as Editor of the Guardian and played a substantial role in the appointment of Hugo Young as his own successor as Chairman of the Scott Trust. So who was this man whom Stirling University prostrated themselves before?

Alistair was the son of Sir Hector Hetherington, a Professor at University College Cardiff and then Principal of the University of Glasgow. Whilst serving in the army in WWII Hetherington was a major in the Intelligence Corps. In 1950 he joined the Manchester Guardian as a journo and in 1953 Hetherington became Editor. Hetherington claimed to be a campaigner for social justice – he was present at the founding of CND and attended the preliminary meetings at the house of Lord Simon Wythenshawe, along with Sir Bernard Lovell and Bertrand Russell. Yet Hetherington did not support or join CND – indeed Hetherington actually tried to launch his own movement with aims directly in opposition to CND. Years later he performed another U turn over Vietnam, after meeting US military commanders in Saigon. In 1959 Hetherington oversaw the evolution of the ‘Manchester Guardian’ into the ‘Guardian’ and the office subsequently relocated to London. The ‘Guardian’ lost a great deal of money but was kept afloat by its sister paper, the ‘Manchester Evening News’.

Hetherington was close to Harold Wilson but even closer to Jo Grimond, the Liberal MP who would have become leader of the Party had Thorpe not got there instead. Hetherington spent 20 years writing leading articles to promote Liberal-Labour co-operation in order to defeat the Tories.

In 1975 Michael Swann, the Chairman of the BBC, offered Hetherington the post of Controller of BBC Scotland. There was as much trouble following that appointment as there was when Hetherington landed the Chair at Stirling. Hetherington  clashed with the DG at the BBC, Charles Curran and in 1978 was sacked by Curran’s successor, Ian Trethowan. Hetherington had to slum it as the manager of BBC Radio Highland until he was offered the Chair at Stirling.

Hetherington’s mate Michael Swann was a molecular biologist. Between 1965-74 he was Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh. In 1972 Swann was confronted with much trouble from the students, led by one Gordon Brown, who had been elected Rector. Ted Heath was so wowed at Swann’s ‘strong leadership’ at Edinburgh that he gave Swann a knighthood and then in 1974 appointed him as Chair of the BBC. In 1979 Swann was appointed Chancellor of York University and in 1981 he was given a peerage. Swann’s brother Hugh was Cabinet Maker to HM the Queen.

The present Chair of the Scott Trust is Andrew Graham. His CV has all the right ingredients – Sunday Times, LWT, Channel 4, Fellow of the Royal Television Society and Royal Society of Arts…

Today’s Mail Online published an angry article demanding to know why so many ‘left wing luvvies’ are heads of Oxbridge Colleges. A number of sinners were named and shamed, including Mark Damazar (latterly of the BBC), Alan Rusbridger, Jackie Ashley (Guardian columnist and wife of Andrew Marr of the BBC) and dear old Baroness Helena Kennedy. I don’t think that the elevation to great heights of such folk has much to do with them being lefties or luvvies. Like the people at the top of the Daily Mail, one reason why none of this lot have been blown out of the water is that they have all kept schtum about the organised sexual abuse of children by public figures and senior politicians and civil servants.

Vanson won a Royal Television Society award for her film about sexual harassment at work, ‘Making Advances’. The film was presented by Emma Freud. This was pre-Savile, pre-Rolf and pre-Stuart Hall. And indeed pre-Clement Freud, Emma’s father.

There is one TV documentary made by Vanson that I am particularly interested in. It was a documentary that was screened by BBC Wales in approx. 1996-97 entitled ‘Breaking the Mold’ and it concerned the fight to save Theatre Clwyd which was facing closure. Vanson mentions working with the commissioning editor of BBC Wales, John Geraint on a programme about Aberfan, so I’m wondering if he commissioned ‘Breaking The Mold’.

Theatre Clwyd was the baby of the former Chief Exec of Clwyd County Council, T.M. Hadyn Rees. Hadyn Rees was Chief Exec of Clwyd 1974-77 – as the paedophile gang raged in children’s homes run by Clwyd County Council. Hadyn Rees was a lawyer who was a member of the Welsh Arts Council, 1968-77. Hadyn Rees, like his successor Mervyn Phillips, had a great many fingers in a great many pies. Further details of the numerous fingers and pies involving these paedophiles’ friends can be read in my post ‘Ain’t Nothing Clean – Not Even The Welsh Calvinistic Methodists’. The upshot was that Hadyn Rees and Mervyn Phillips spearheaded huge projects which purchased them much kudos and power within north Wales yet it was never clear how these projects were funded. Whilst all this was happening, there were constant financial crises in Clwyd County Council  – the money just seemed to disappear but on what was unfathomable, because the Council certainly weren’t spending it on services for the citizens of Clwyd. Again and again there are references in local gov’t documents to the terrible financial problems in Clwyd – the Council had to go cap in hand to various places for bail outs, there was a huge row because the rates/council tax had to be hiked up to one of the highest levels in the UK and after the abolition of Clwyd County Council at the time of the submission of the Jillings Report into the abuse of children in the care of the Council, an enormous black hole in the funds was revealed which was carried over into the new organisation, Flintshire County Council. At the retirement party of Roger Parry, the Finance Chief of Clwyd, jokes were made about Roger’s catchphrase being ‘struggling on’, although there were many warm words for him from senior officers who remembered how he ‘rescued’ the Council at a time of crisis. Roger himself told the party that he was glad that he was able to save the day, but warned everyone not to embezzle the Council funds after his retirement.

Theatre Clwyd was a grand enterprise from the outset – it was opened in 1976 by HM the Queen and for a theatre in a small rural town in north Wales it really is quite impressive. The official narrative regarding the funding of the theatre is that it is funded by Clwyd County Council. It hit the buffers in about 1996 and was facing closure – this happened when Tom Middlehusrt was Chief Exec of Flintshire County Council. Just after the Jillings Report had confirmed the most dreadful abuse of children in Clwyd and the possible presence of a paedophile ring, just as the Waterhouse Inquiry was ordered. Just after Clwyd County Council had disappeared in a puff of smoke leaving the huge black hole in its wake – and when the newly created Flintshire County Council was ordered by Michael Beloff QC, the legal advisor to their insurers, to never release the Jillings Report to anyone, even the Councillors, on the grounds that what had happened to the children in care was so indefensible that the insurers would withdraw the Council’s cover if the Report was made public and the Council members themselves would be personally liable for the damages and costs if any of the former children in care sued. Michael Beloff QC styled himself a human rights/civil liberties barrister – he was a colleague of Mansfield, Gareth Peirce, Cherie Booth et al.

Tom Middlehurst – who later became the AM for Alyn and Deeside – is credited for having helped save Theatre Clwyd, although I can’t quite work out HOW. What is clear though is that Middlehurst managed to drum up a great deal of good publicity for the Theatre, which included Vanson’s documentary. Vanson herself described Theatre Clwyd as ‘really inspirational’ and in retrospect suggested that perhaps her film had helped the theatre stay open and that it was one of her ‘campaigning successes’. The person running Theatre Clwyd at the time was Helena Kaut-Howson, who is now a very big name in theatre internationally. David Hanson MP – another one of the paedophiles’ friends who is married to Margaret Hanson, the current Vice-Chair of the deadly Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board – spoke in Parliament about the crisis facing the theatre and described Theatre Clwyd as ‘an important social and cultural asset of north Wales’.

Middlehurst summoned up a very big name indeed in order to save the paedophiles’ friends’ extravagant folly – he contacted Terry Hands, who became CEO and Director of Theatre Clwyd in 1997. Terry Hands was one of the founders of the Liverpool Everyman Theatre in 1964. Hands went to school in Woking and studied at the University of Birmingham and RADA. After establishing the Everyman, in 1966 Hands joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and in 1986 became its CEO. Then in 1997 he gave the paedophiles’ friends an enormous helping hand. Hands also became the Vice-President of the Llangollen International Eisteddfod – scores of the paedophiles’ friends are associated with that festival and for a number of years Sir Ronnie Waterhouse was President. Hands is or was visiting Professor at the Atrium at the University of South Wales and is or was Joint President of the Arvon Foundation. The Arvon Foundation is a charity which promotes creative writing and runs a number of residential writing retreats. Poets previously involved with the Arvon Foundation include Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney and Philip Larkin. Former tutors include Willy Russell, Ian McEwan, Andrew Motion, Carol Ann Duffy, Ian Rankin and Will Self. Hands left Theatre Clwyd in 2015, by which time it was the most successful theatre in Wales. In 2014 Wales Online had reported that Theatre Clwyd’s funding was at risk again – at this point Colin Everett was the Chief Exec of Flintshire County Council. Wales Online reported that the theatre had its own production company which travelled across the UK – the theatre company was described as being ‘subsidised’ by Flintshire County Council, which had left the Council with a big bill…

I have no idea how Middlehurst managed to rope Terry Hands in, but I note that Middlehurst went to Liverpool Poly. The Everyman was a huge cult in Liverpool and it fancied itself as bohemian and political. By the mid-70s some people who became very influential were associated with the Everyman, including Julie Walters, Cathy Tyson, Pete Postlethwaite and Matthew Kelly. The Everyman was associated with actors and writers on the left who had originated from working class backgrounds.

Pete Postlethwaite died not so long ago and spent the last part of his life in Shropshire. In 1987 he began a relationship with the woman whom he married in 2003, Jacqui, who was a BBC producer. In 1994 Pete Postlethwaite starred in  ‘Sin Bin’, directed by George Case. Postlethwaite played the part of a prison officer in a secure hospital in which one patient murders another. Case and the scriptwriter obviously had a very good knowledge of what goes on in secure hospitals – scenes involved the prison officers making crude sexual jokes about the patients, about the crimes that they were alleged to have committed which resulted in them being banged up and mocking notions such as ‘service users’. Like the film ‘Scum’ which portrayed the brutality inside a young offenders institution some ten years previously, ‘Sin Bin’ accurately portrayed the attitudes of staff – but it wasn’t quite as bad as those institutions are in real life. In the way that ‘Scum’ didn’t portray the staff sexually assaulting the boys, no-one banged up in ‘Sin Bin’ was there because they’d dared mention that they’d been abused in care or by the Top Doctors.

It is significant that both ‘Scum’ and ‘Sin Bin’ were fiction – not even Yvette Vanson made a documentary about the institutions that the paedophiles’ friends ran. She just made a film about their theatre when it had bankrupted the Council. Again.

Matthew Kelly spent much of his career pursuing a rather different path to his contemporaries at the Everyman. Like Julie Walters and Victoria Wood, Kelly trained at Manchester Poly – and like Vanson and Gareth Peirce he had been a member of the Workers Revolutionary Party. Kelly spent years presenting light entertainment shows such as ‘Game For A Laugh’ and ‘Stars In Their Eyes’. Until in 2003 – when he was arrested over allegations of child sexual abuse, as part of Operation Arundel. Operation Arundel resulted in the imprisonment of Jonathan King who like Kelly was investigated for abusing underaged boys in the 1970s. Kelly was never charged, on the grounds that the CPS did not have sufficient evidence. Another person investigated as part of the same operation was Tam Paton, the former manager of the Bay City Rollers, one of whom was imprisoned for the possession of child porn whilst he was working as a nurse in middle age. After Jonathan King was released from prison he angrily denounced what he claimed was the hypocrisy of those who had prosecuted him and excluded him from polite society. King maintained that he knew scores of other people in the entertainment industry who had done exactly what he had done but who had not been prosecuted. He also claimed that the judge who sentenced him to seven years inside had been at Cambridge with him and had also been having sex with underaged boys. I note that no-one ever sued Jonathan King regarding that allegation.

Although Matthew Kelly was not prosecuted, he was certainly very shaken and distressed by the police investigation. Granada and ITV supported him – as did Julie Walters – and said that they looked forward to his return, but Kelly didn’t return. He kept a very low profile for the next ten years and only relatively recently began making public appearances again.

I have no idea whether Matthew Kelly ever has been involved with under-aged boys as accused, but I do know that people in the entertainment industry will robustly support people whom they are aware may be conducting themselves in a questionable manner. Greg Dyke’s book ‘Inside Story’ mentions that Michael Barrymore’s behaviour was so bad and so bizarre that people found him nigh-on impossible to work with. Dyke maintains that ‘everyone’ knew that Barrymore was gay and that he would disappear for days at a time when he was supposed to be filming. This went on many years before a sexually injured corpse was found in Barrymore’s swimming pool of which Barrymore claimed to know nuzzing.

There was an article in the ‘Morning Star’ today about culture/plays for the working classes, headed ‘Workers’ Play Time’. I wondered if it might mention Terry Hands, the Everyman, Mike Leigh etc, but it didn’t. However I discovered a whole new world. The article was written by Doug Nicholls, the GFTU (General Federation of Trade Unions) General Secretary. Doug was previously General Secretary of the union CYWU (Community and Youth Workers Union), 1987-2007, which represented youth workers, workers in youth theatre, community education, outdoor education, play workers and personal advisors. Don’t tell me that they didn’t know something about the sexual exploitation of young people. The CYWU joined the TGWU in 2006 and is now part of UNITE.  The CYWU used to publish their own magazine, ‘Rapport’. I’ve had a very quick look through a vintage copy and it comments on the sort of thing that I suspected that it would – it mentions the NCCL and Patricia Hewitt and there is a lot of confusion about sexuality. There are some people maintaining that they should be able to come out as gay or lesbian and act as a ‘role model’ to the youngsters, but these people are opposed by other members taking an overly bigoted or macho stance with references to poofs and lesbians in tweed. It is in such fetid atmospheres that the sexual exploitation of young people flourishes….

Michael Mansfield lived in Wandsworth whilst St George’s Hospital Medical School and Springfield Hospital concealed the serious criminal activities in north Wales. Wandsworth is just down the road from St George’s and Springfield, loads of the staff of those hospitals live in Wandsworth. I know for a fact that David Hole the corrupt MSF rep did – he knew what had happened to me in north Wales.

History Repeats Itself, First As Tragedy, Second As Farce

A story in the Welsh news yesterday certainly illustrates Marx’s famous quote.

In my post ‘Police 5, April 20 2017’ I reported on the case of a custody sergeant, Jethro Christie, at Caernarfon Police Station who had been cleared of breaking a prisoner’s collar bone after holding him in a double arm lock. The prisoner concerned, Jason Pritchard, maintained that Christie – described as an ‘international martial arts expert’ – had held him in a ‘full Nelson’ and dropped him. A Top Doctor helpfully provided evidence at the disciplinary hearing at Colwyn Bay’s North Wales Police HQ that Mr Pritchard most probably broke his collar bone when he fell off the bed in his cell. Beds in cells are quite near the floor, I would imagine that it would be difficult to sustain a bruise by falling off one, let alone a broken collar-bone. My previous post mentioned a few other things about Jethro Christie’s account that didn’t quite add up.

Sgt Christie starred in the Daily Post Online again yesterday. He was the victim of a Horrible Crime – again the action involved a prisoner in custody at Caernarfon Police Station when Christie was on duty. Christie had been assaulted by a lady called Christine McKeever. The assault in question was the accidental spilling of a drink of hot chocolate over Christie. There was no mention of Christie being scalded, so it doesn’t seem to be like one of those McDonalds Apple Pie cases that became notorious in the 80s, in which enthusiastic Mac’s customers sustained injury after biting into the Apple Pies containing fillings well beyond temperatures that should be in contact with the human mouth. Ms McKeever explained to the Court that she didn’t mean to knock the hot chocolate over Christie. None the less, she was fined £150 for assaulting him and £155 costs.

As with the two well-built aggressive male Angels employed by Ysbyty Gwynedd, Stephen Gallagher and Alan Roberts (see post ‘Two Dangerous Very Dishonest Nurses’), Sgt Christie doesn’t have much luck when he’s on duty. This international martial arts expert who – like all police officers these days – will be well kitted-out with protective body armour, truncheon/cosh, spray to squirt into people’s faces and probably a taser as well (who knows, he’s probably carrying a gun too), finds himself in the company of prisoners who sustain serious injury after falling a matter of inches from their bed onto the floor – after CCTV confirmed that Christie has held them in a full Nelson and dropped them – and a lady who carries out a vicious assault upon him, accidentally, with a hot chocolate.

After Christie didn’t break Jason Pritchard’s collar bone, Richard Eccles, the Secretary of the North Wales Police Federation, commented that the disciplinary committee had produced the ‘right result’ and mentioned the ‘impact’ that the case had on Sgt Christie and his colleagues no less. So the whole station was traumatised after Christie did not break Jason’s collar bone. The North Wales Police Federation supported Gordon Anglesea until the day that he was convicted of molesting boys in care. The dear old Fed were even planning to support him in an appeal against his conviction, but most ungratefully Anglesea died in prison. So instead the North Wales Police Federation turned out in force at his funeral.

I await a statement from the North Wales Police Federation regarding the trauma suffered by Jethro after some hot chocolate was accidentally spilt in his presence, the amount of sick leave that was necessitated because of this and of course the counselling that was needed as a result of the PTSD that he subsequently developed. God knows how the rest of the station coped with the horror of it all, they’ve probably all booked themselves in for Indian head massages to relieve the stress.

Another case of history repeating itself in Wales now, but sadly this is yet another tragedy following on from a previous tragedy. BBC News Wales Online have been reporting on the death of 12 year old Ryan Morse in Dec 2012. Ryan died at his home in Blaenau Gwent from Addisons disease, after being ill for four months but remaining undiagnosed, despite being repeatedly seen by two GPs. Addisons is treatable – Ryan’s death was avoidable. Two GPs involved in the case have stood trial at Cardiff Crown Court for manslaughter. One doctor was cleared in May and the other doctor, Dr Joanne Rudling, has just been acquitted on the direction of Mrs Justice Nicola Davies. Dr Rudling still faces trial on a charge of perverting the course of public justice.

Like Jethro Christie, Nicola Davies is an old friend of this blog and featured in my post ‘This Is What Happened To Nicola, Niclas, Merfyn, Joan and Kathryn’. Nicola, whilst she was still a barrister, was the QC whose opinion was sought by the Welsh Office during the Jillings investigation as to whether a public inquiry should be held into the abuse of children in care in north Wales. Nicola maintained that it would ‘not be in the public interest’ to do so. Nevertheless, the difficult questions just wouldn’t go away and the following year William Hague organised the cover-up that was the Waterhouse Inquiry. Nicola became a judge the year after Hague organised the whitewash.

Nicola has had many high points in her career. She was junior counsel to Dr Marietta Higgs and Dr Geoffrey Wyatt in the wake of the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal, which certainly proved a useful distraction to the activities of the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales (see posts ‘A UK Network’ and ‘The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Connection’). She moved onto greater things – she represented the dangerous surgeons in the Bristol Heart Scandal who operated beyond their competence and killed their young patients; she represented Sir Roy Meadow before the GMC, the High Court and Court of Appeal after he invented a new illness and made up silly statistics in the witness box, resulting in the wrongful imprisonment of a number of mothers for allegedly murdering their children; and she really hit the jackpot when she defended a man called Harold Shipman. Although in Court Nicola styles herself Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, Nicola is actually Dame Nicola. Of course she is after defending all those lethal Top Doctors. In 2014 Nicola was appointed Presiding Judge of the Wales Circuit, which is how she came to be sitting in Cardiff Crown Court the other day acquitting yet another Top Doctor who had killed someone. What’s the betting that Nicola will preside over Dr Rudling’s trial for perverting the course of public justice as well? A charge that some of us might be tempted to suggest that Nicola herself should probably face.

Ryan is not the first schoolboy to die of Addison’s disease in south Wales after a series of GPs who were consulted failed to diagnose it. In 1990, 10 year old Robbie Powell died in Morriston Hospital in Swansea – after four months of ill-health and seven consultations with five different GPs in the two weeks preceding his death. The GPs involved in Robbie’s neglect had told so many lies and altered so many medical records that a police investigation took place. Oh guess what – no-one was convicted of anything. Robbie’s parents only found out after his death that a hospital consultant had recommended months before he died that he should be tested for Addison’s disease. This was not done. The fact that Robbie was even in hospital at all at the time of his death was bugger all to do with the lying, document-altering GPs – Robbie’s dad had driven him to hospital after Robbie collapsed at home and the GPs had refused to call an ambulance.

The full story about Robbie’s death was never revealed. What was revealed only ever became public because of Robbie’s dad William, who fought for twelve years before an investigation was carried out by Lesley Griffiths, the then Health Minister. On 9 Oct 2012, BBC News Wales online carried a report entitled ‘NHS Must Learn Lessons From Boy’s Death’. Well that’s why it’s happened all over again then. Lesley Griffiths compiled a report after the investigation and admitted that there had been a ‘catalogue of failures and missed opportunities’. Robbie’s dad maintained that Griffiths’ report was a ‘complete whitewash’ and a ‘waste of public money’ and he asked for a public inquiry into Robbie’s death. He didn’t get one, although Carwyn Jones apologised and had said that he’d be writing to the police to ask questions about the way in which the investigation into the GPs was handled. Carwyn admitted that Robbie’s family had been ‘let down badly by a system that should have protected’ Robbie.

In Jan 2013, Wales This Week reported that it had been discovered that Carwyn Jones had made 18 redactions to the Report into Robbie’s death.

Regular readers will know how often I and others are simply not believed when we tell our stories of serious institutionalised NHS corruption. I have found that if, after being accused of making it all up, I then produce some of the (mountains of) evidence that I have, a very common reaction is for the unbeliever to then tell me that ‘something might have gone wrong with your case, but the NHS treats thousands of people every day and they get excellent care’. (This line was trotted out in the face of complaint about Mid-Staffs.)

Well look what was reported by BBC News Wales as part of Lesley Griffiths’ statement in the Senedd when the (redacted) report into Robbie’s death was presented – Lesley Griffiths was quoted as saying that ‘thousands of people receive excellent care from the NHS every day but when things go wrong the service must take every opportunity to learn from these mistakes’. Not that the service ever does, because the service is screwing up constantly, misconduct is routinely covered up and denied and if some awkward sod does prove that their complaints are well founded, they’ll be given the ‘thousands of people every day’ patter. There will only very rarely be a public inquiry into a monumental cock-up and a report will often be redacted lest anyone find out just how badly things went wrong.

Now not only did Lesley know that among the ‘thousands of people receiving excellent care’ there were some of us who were not only being unlawfully refused all care after nearly dying at the hands of the NHS, but that we were being harassed and threatened as well by NHS staff. Lesley also knew that ‘the service’ was doing anything but ‘taking every opportunity’ to learn from its mistakes. How do I know that Lesley knew all this? Because at the time that she was reciting this glib, dishonest sanctimonious clap-trap, I was e mailing Lesley Griffiths about the appalling things that were happening to me at the hands of the NHS in north Wales. And I did not receive any replies – although I was writing with details of serious misconduct, in some cases criminal misconduct.

Of course the outrages that I was enduring at the hands of the NHS were nothing new, but they did become a lot worse after 2005 or so – when Brown and me started appearing in the press and academic journals discussing mental health service failure. As well as the usual arrests for ludicrous reasons and refusal to provide appropriate care, I was also being openly threatened and harassed. Some of these incidents were witnessed by members of the public who were so aghast at what they had seen Top Doctors and Angels doing that they made statements and complained to the senior managers of the North West Wales NHS Trust. Following this, these people were then threatened and harassed themselves. Whilst some of this was going on, Edwina Hart was Health Minister.

Now initially I believed that Edwina was ignoring my correspondence, because all I’d get would be a thank you and an acknowledgement and then it would go quiet. But then a friend somewhat more worldly than me stated ‘when letters like this land on a Minister’s desk they’re so hot they’ll be handled with tongs’. This man assured me that something WOULD be going on behind the scenes but because I was in a position to sue the arse off so many people in view of what was happening to me, Edwina would have to be careful what she said. He turned out to be right – following the initial acknowledgements, Edwina came up trumps, she took up my case with Martin Jones and Elfed Roberts, the two barking mad idiots running the North West Wales NHS Trust. They were rude to her and flatly refused to carry out her request to investigate my complaints. The threats and harassment continued. Edwina really did try – she acknowledged and replied regularly and when I realised just what a bloody nightmare Martin and Elfed were, I decided that it would be easiest for Edwina if I just sent her info about what was happening to me and let her deal with it, without me demanding details and updates. Edwina abolished the North West Wales NHS Trust, which in view of what was happening to me and many others at their hands was probably the only thing that she could actually do. The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board came into being – and the BMA hounded Edwina out of her job. She was moved to another Ministry.

The new CEO of the Betsi, Mary Burrows, was a very different kettle of fish to Martin and Elfed, she was actually very nice and very obviously tried to take on the institutional corruption in the Betsi. And was she hated for it. I have described elsewhere the witch-hunt and vendetta against Mary from the BMA, the Top Doctors and the paedophiles’ friends. Unfortunately Martin Jones was now the Director of Workforce in the Betsi and was causing havoc – for Mary and me. I was told by a mole in the NHS that Martin blamed me for the abolition of the NW Wales NHS Trust and hated me with a vengeance. A lot of rather extreme things started happening to me – my office was rifled through on a number of occasions, post arriving at the university for me was opened and presumably read before I picked it up, my car was tampered with repeatedly and broken into on a number of occasions, someone tried to get into my house late one night but my dog saw them off, cars were driven recklessly in my direction at a high speed, a lorry tried to run me off the road, there was an attempt to run Brown and me off the road one day when we were out in the car together, a poison pen latter was sent to the authorities at the university where Brown worked stating that he was a ‘known paedophile’ (the letter was postmarked Cardiff) (see post ‘A Nasty, Ludicrous Poison Pen Letter’) – and I was followed and threatened by a policeman with a gun which I don’t think should have been in his possession. Amidst these highlights, every time I went into Bangor or Caernarfon, I would find myself followed and insulted by members of staff from the north Wales mental health services. I ended up having to move house twice and then live at an undisclosed location.

Whilst this was happening Lesley Griffiths was Health Minister. I presumed that like Edwina, Lesley Griffiths would find it easier to act if I just gave her info and left her to it for a bit without hassling her asking for answers. So I sent Lesley an awful lot of e mails, detailing just some of what was happening to me. And I waited. A long time. I do not think that I received one reply. And no, she did not seem to be acting behind the scenes either. As far as I could see, Lesley Griffiths completely ignored the very serious matters that I was e mailing her about. She knew how bad things were in the north, she’d witnessed what Edwina had to deal with.

At first I presumed that Lesley Griffiths might be a good choice for Health, because before she had been elected for Wrexham, she had been a medical secretary in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Medical secretaries know an awful lot about troubled hospitals, they handle the letters of complaint and those threatening litigation. Wrexham Maelor, like all the hospitals in north Wales, was very troubled indeed. As Health Minister, Lesley Griffiths would have a lot more power than as a medical secretary – and she would know exactly where the problems lay. When she did absolutely sod all, I wondered if she was perhaps like a previous Health Minister, Jane Hutt – a drip of an ex social worker who was frightened to challenge the Top Doctors and co. But two years ago I attended a lecture by Lesley Griffiths in which she talked about her brilliant career. She explained that before she became an AM, she was a Councillor in Wrexham and it was really great because as a Councillor she could get streetlights fixed and ‘help the mums’ of the local kids. She could Change Things.

For what were the Councillors of Wrexham most well-known? Colluding with the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Apart from Malcolm King, none of them would stick their necks out at all and ask the questions that needed to be asked about the serious abuse of kids at Bryn Estyn, the children’s home on the outskirts of Wrexham, or the Bryn Alyn Community nearby. Local doctors also colluded with the paedophiles of Bryn Estyn and Bryn Alyn. Those kids were turning up at GPs surgeries and local hospitals with broken bones and other injuries and no questions were asked. Sometimes the kids were sent away untreated. One teenaged boy went to a local GP with a ruptured anus. He was told that he had ‘piles’. He had been anally raped repeatedly. Meanwhile Lesley fixed the street lights and helped the mums – not the mums whose kids had been taken into ‘care’ by a gang of paedophiles obviously, they were ignored, as I was.

Earlier this summer, I was forwarded some more documents concerning the failure of the NHS to investigate my complaints. Among the many bizarre documents detailed elsewhere on this blog, there were some copies of e mails written by two notoriously dreadful NHS managers in north Wales, Simon Pyke and Adrian Jones. Pyke and Jones are no longer employed as managers by the Betsi, but they were notorious for failing to investigate complaints or respond to whistleblowers and for telling barefaced lies. Readers may remember their names from comments that other people have left on my blog. I have a copy of a seriously weird e mail written by Adrian Jones, in which he states that ‘SB’ (ie. me) has been complaining to Ministers in the Welsh Gov’t again and what a ‘nuisance’ I am. There is no record of any attempt to address the very serious matters that I was raising with the Welsh Gov’t. The Ministers that I wrote to – unsurprisingly – were the Health Ministers. Judging from the date on Jones’s e mail, he was referring to my correspondence to Lesley Griffiths and perhaps also to Mark Drakeford, who took over from Griffiths after a reshuffle. The only correspondence that I sent to Mark Drakeford detailed the major research fraud perpetuated by Professor Mark Williams at Bangor University. I did not receive a reply but a few weeks later, Drakeford took part in a photocall with Williams’s colleagues, in a PR piece promoting the research fraud that I’d given him full details of. Mark Drakeford is a former social worker who worked in Dyfed. Where a paedophile ring existed which was ignored by the social services. Dyfed Social Services were asked by Ioan Bowen Rees, the former Chief Exec of Gwynedd County Council, to ‘review’ Gwynedd Social Services children’s homes, after abuse was alleged. The abuse continued, so presumably that ‘review’ wasn’t very thorough. Before he was Chief Exec of Gwynedd County Council, Bowen Rees was the County Secretary of Dyfed County Council (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’).

So somehow Adrian Jones knew that I had written to the Welsh Gov’t about the NHS. I never wrote to Adrian Jones or indeed his colleagues. Yet Jones wasn’t given a copy of any of my complaints to respond to. So how did he know that I had written to the Health Ministers? I cannot help wondering if someone who once worked as a medical secretary in Wrexham might have known Adrian or one of his colleagues and told them that a nuisance was writing to Ministers about them. Heaven forbid that the same person might have told the paedophiles that the kids were complaining about being beaten and molested when people came to her with such matters in her previous incarnation as a Councillor.

‘Take a letter Ms Griffiths. I’ve killed yet more of my patients and I’m intimidating complainants so severely that they are moving house, leaving the area and going into hiding. I’m sure that I can rely on you to write exactly the same meaningless shite in response to the serious complaints that you have so helpfully written so many times before. By the way, I can see that you have abilities that far exceed those of your average medical secretary. How do fancy becoming a local Councillor? You could even move into national politics from there. Because with all these dead patients and investigations into organised child sexual abuse in the region, we could certainly do with a tame, lame, spineless fuckwit in the National Assembly representing Wrexham, where all the action is.’

Since Griffiths and Drakeford ignored my correspondence, the barrel of shit that was Tawel Fan exploded, it was admitted that the obs and gynae services at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd were so dysfunctional that a hit squad was sent in by the Welsh Gov’t to ‘achieve normality’ and the recruitment crisis in the north Wales NHS has got worse and worse and worse. The Daily Post Online today reported that 37% of all medical vacancies in Wales are in the Betsi. No-one wants to work with insane, vindictive criminals who are killing and abusing their patients. Sian Gwenllian, the AM for Arfon, has Spoken Out yet again on the subject of how a medical school in Bangor is the answer. No Sian it is not. Because the medical school will be run by the criminals as well – no-one else will want to work or study there.

For fuck’s sake Carwyn, launch a police investigation into the north Wales NHS. The only good Health Minister that we’ve had has been Edwina and the biggest mistake ever was to allow the Top Doctors to hound her out. Appointing Paedophiles’ Friends to run Wales’s NHS has not been a good idea.

An article appeared on the Daily Post Online this afternoon explaining that the Councillors of Wrexham have voted against a proposal to take a pay cut in the face of their financial crisis. Services will be cut instead. I am sure that in the face of the local council tax payers complaining and becoming nuisances, the proud Councillors of Wrexham can rely on the support of their old mucker Lesley who’s showing What Women In Politics Can Do. And helping the mums whilst she Changes Things.

This Is What Happened To Nicola, Niclas, Merfyn, Joan and Kathryn

It seems that there is a limitless source of blogging material for me with regards to the trajectories of the careers of those who have somehow been involved in concealing the abuses of the children’s services and mental health services. An e mail from a reader yesterday prompted me to follow up a few more of the names who were listed in the Waterhouse Report as having provided legal advice for the various witnesses and parties involved in the Inquiry. There were of course many lawyers named – some of them local lawyers from practices in north west Wales who were personally known to me – but I’ll just provide details of some who are of particular interest here.

However, I’ll just kick off with a lawyer who was involved with the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal before it all got as far as the Public Inquiry – Nicola Davies QC. Readers may remember that Nicola was appointed by the Welsh Office during the Jillings investigation into child abuse in children’s homes in Clwyd County Council to examine the need for a public inquiry. Nicola’s conclusion was that a judicial inquiry ‘would not be in the public interest’ – although the next year William Hague announced that there would be one and soon afterwards appointed Sir Ronald Waterhouse and his panel.

So who was Nicola Davies QC? Well she was originally from Bridgend but studied law at Birmingham University. Nicola was considered to be a ‘medical specialist’. What was it that established Nicola’s reputation in this area? It was her acting as junior counsel for Dr Marietta Higgs and Dr Geoffrey Wyatt, the two paediatricians involved in the Cleveland Child Abuse Scandal! The scandal that kicked off just after Alison Taylor – the whistleblowing social worker from north Wales – approached Margaret Thatcher and told her that she’d witnessed child abuse in north Wales, just as I started making representation about criminal activities in the mental health services and just at the time that Mary Wynch was winning in Court against the mental health services and Risley Remand Centre (please see post ‘A UK Network’). So Nicola represented two doctors who were widely criticised by other doctors, who precipitated a crisis and a national scandal, who undoubtedly removed some children from caring homes and accused innocent people of sexual abuse, whose actions led to a complete breakdown in working relationships between professionals in the region and within a few months, a Judicial Inquiry.  So that was the ‘expertise’ that the Welsh Office utilised and did initially rely upon in deciding whether to hold a Judicial Inquiry in north Wales.

Following her work for the Welsh Office, Nicola’s reputation grew and grew. She ‘played a part’ in the Bristol Heart Surgery scandal. From what I’ve read I presume that she represented some of the surgeons – the surgeons at the Bristol Royal Infirmary who carried out operations beyond their competence, who refused to listen to warnings and whose own ‘expertise’ lead to the deaths of a lot of children. A judicial review also resulted in Nicola quashing a decision to close some NHS paediatric surgery units. I suspect that case was actually the one that followed the aftermath of Bristol, in which Top Doctors from various paediatric surgery units tipped buckets of slurry over each other, all called each other dangerous and incompetent in an attempt to save their own unit and in the event no-one ever got to the bottom of any of it – just like Cleveland! Clearly by now Nicola was rapidly becoming the choice of any Top Doctor in the shit – she must have overtaken even Sir Robert Francis QC on that measure – and she  subsequently represented Professor Sir Roy Meadow before the GMC, at the High Court and at the Court of Appeal. Roy Meadow was the paediatrician who invented a psychiatric syndrome – Munchausen’s by proxy – and subsequently spouted made-up statistics in Court in his capacity as an ‘expert witness’ which led to a number of innocent women being jailed for murdering their children who had in fact died of other causes. The most high profile of these cases was Sally Clark, a solicitor who had lost two children due to cot death. Sally was crucified in the press, banged up, repeatedly physically attacked by other prisoners who believed that she was a murderer and by the time that her conviction was quashed had just about been destroyed. She died not long after being released. Before she died however, another Top Doctor, Professor David Southall, vented his spleen on the Clark family (they obviously hadn’t been through enough, only having lost two of their children and Sally having being wrongly convicted and imprisoned for double murder) and reported Sally’s husband for the murder of the children, on the grounds of absolutely no evidence at all. Neither Southall or Meadow crawled off under a stone to retire after this series of unimaginable misjudgements and cock-ups – after the GMC finally took action against them in the face of much public outrage, they both continued to max-out the various appeals processes until they were returned to the Medical Register. And it was Nicola whom Meadow used to do it. This was not yet the pinnacle of Nicola’s career however.

Nicola’s reputation was well and truly sealed when she defended a man called Harold Shipman. Readers may have heard of him. Nicola did her best, but he was of course found guilty. Now I suspect that if I had defended the UK’s biggest serial killer and lost the case, I’d be finished, but I’m glad to say that Nicola was made a Dame in 2010 – of course she was, what did any of us expect? She was described in ‘Wales Online’ as ‘the highest medical defence QC in the UK’ and a woman who had ‘broken many glass ceilings’. (I thought that there might be bit of a role model for all us other women in there somewhere.) Nicola could only travel upwards though – since 2014 she has been the Presiding Judge of the Wales Circuit. (She was appointed a judge a couple of years after telling everyone that holding an inquiry into the biggest child abuse scandal in the UK would not be in the public interest.) Nicola is an honorary fellow of the University of Cardiff. One can only hope that Nicola has a very powerful washing machine because she’ll have more blood on her than Lady Macbeth had.

The research for this post was prompted when a reader sent me some links concerning a branch of a bikers club in Colwyn Bay, the ‘Outlaws’, some of whom have been involved in organised crime. In June 2012, at Mold Crown Court, the police sought a serious crimes prevention order against two members of the ‘Outlaws’, Stuart Dawson and Adrian Sheriff, to prevent them participating in serious criminal activities upon their release from prison. Dawson had previously served five years in prison and Sheriff four years, for conspiring to supply amphetamines. Their arrests had followed the discovery of £20,000 worth of the drug at their North Wales clubhouse in Colwyn Bay and the clubhouse was described as a centre of illegal activity. At a previous trial involving Dawson, Judge Merfyn Hughes QC had stated that Dawson had used his position as European and Asian President of the ‘Outlaws’ to further his own criminal activities. At the trial in June 2012 the police requested that Dawson and Sheriff should be prevented from holding office in the club by Court Order. I bet they were surprised at the response of the judge, Niclas Parry – he told the police that such an Order would be ‘disproportionate’ and he then made a less restrictive Order, stating that Dawson and Sheriff mustn’t hold office or seek to hold office in the ‘Outlaws’, the ‘Hell’s Angels’ or ‘Black Pistons’, after ‘negotiations’ between the lawyers. The Order applying to Dawson ran until May 2015 and the one applying to Sheriff ran until May 2014. Judge Niclas Parry then thanked the barristers – and the defendants – for reaching the agreement and saving the Court from a ‘week long trial’. Yes, Niclas Parry allowed two people involved in serious organised crime on an international scale to arrange the terms of their own Court Orders and then thanked them for it. If Niclas Parry is ever the victim of crime and phones the police for help, I don’t expect they’ll be busting a gut to arrive at the scene of the crime at top speed – and he’d better be careful because the Orders that he put on Dawson and Sheriff expired ages ago. The ‘Outlaws’ don’t just have a cosy relationship with a judge in the region, the reader who sent me this story also sent me  a collection of photos of the ‘Outlaws’ at  a charity fundraiser with the Bryn y Maen RSPCA. Haven’t the RSPCA created enough bad publicity for themselves already?

So who is the judge who thanks organised criminals for allowing him to negotiate with them? Niclas Parry, before he was a judge, was one the many lawyers who was involved in the Waterhouse Inquiry. Parry was a solicitor advocate representing one of the witnesses, Stephen Norris. Stephen Norris had been employed at Bryn Estyn and later at the Cartrefle Community Home. Norris was so gross that even the other staff at those homes didn’t like him, describing him as coarse, unsuitable to work with children and obsessed with sex. When the members of a paedophile gang described someone in those terms even Ronald Waterhouse couldn’t ignore it. In 1990 Norris pleaded guilty to a number of sex offences at Chester Crown Court and was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. This case sparked off a police investigation and before he had finished his sentence Norris was charged with numerous more offences and in 1993 pleaded guilty at Knutsford Crown Court to three offences of buggery, one offence of attempted buggery and three indecent assaults. He pleaded not guilty to ten other counts. Norris was sentenced to seven years in prison and the ten counts to which he’d pleaded not guilty were ordered to remain on file. The Waterhouse Tribunal however heard about a lot more wrongdoing on the part of Norris than this. Norris himself admitting committing offences from 1980 onwards. Witnesses told the Tribunal that Norris repeatedly molested them in the showers, in the bedrooms, in his caravan and on a smallholding that he owned. They also told of physical violence from Norris and one claimed that Norris had threatened him with a shotgun – but Ronnie didn’t believe that, in the way that he chose not to believe so much of what former residents of children’s homes told him. One witness explained that Norris took him to a large house in Chester where he was buggered by Norris and the occupier and shown pornographic films involving children. On another occasion Norris arranged for a man to pick him up, who then took him to Chirk and sexually assaulted him. This witness also told Waterhouse that Peter Howarth – another member of staff at Bryn Estyn who was in prison for sexually assaulting the boys in his care by the time that the Inquiry was underway – and Norris tried to get him to recruit boys for sexual purposes. If I was leading an Inquiry into sexual abuse in a region where it was alleged that influential public figures were abusing children, that a paedophile ring was in operation and that staff in the children’s homes might be involved with a gay prostitution and child pornography racket I’d be quite interested in this witnesses story. But Ronnie pointed out that there was no evidence to corroborate it and furthermore this witness was under psychiatric care. Which says it all. (This was not the only witness who talked about being taken to other locations where they were molested by strangers. Ronnie didn’t give them the time of day either.)

So that’s who Niclas Parry represented at the Tribunal. But I think that Niclas might have actually known old Ronnie Waterhouse before that Tribunal. This blog has made it eminently clear just what a small world it is in north Wales and the legal world in north Wales is even smaller. Ronnie himself grew up in Flintshire, was very locally rooted and retained numerous links there throught his life. Niclas came from Flintshire as well! He was born in Halkyn and went to school in Mold, where his parents were teachers. Niclas even managed to become head boy in the school in which his mum was head of English! Niclas maintains that it was his mum who inspired him to follow a legal career – his mum had legal connections, she was a magistrate! Niclas studied law at Abersytwyth, like so many featured on this blog and whilst he was there was head warden of Pantycelyn, the well-known Welsh speaking hall of residence which was the site of many language protests. After graduation, Niclas undertook his training as a solicitor with a firm called Llewellyn Jones and Co in Mold, under the late W. Armon Ellis and became a partner there, only leaving in 2010.

It’s worth me saying a bit about Armon Ellis, Niclas’s mentor. Armon also read law at Aberystwyth. He was born in Flintshire as well, near Holywell and attended the same school as Ronnie Waterhouse, Holywell Grammar, although he was thirteen years older than Ronnie. In 1946, after serving in the war, he joined the Mold law firm of the local MP, Llewellyn Jones, becoming a senior partner. In the 1970s he was one of the first solicitors to act as a deputy circuit judge. He was a Councillor with Flintshire County Council between 1950 and 1974 and between 1974 and 1977 he served on Clwyd County Council. So Niclas’s mentor was right in the thick of it whilst children in the care of those councils were abused for years – and he’ll have known the dipsticks who ran the social service depts of those councils who were steeped in incompetence and nepotism as described in my post ‘It’s A Piece Of Cake’. Armon Ellis was described in his obituary as being immersed in and dedicated to the Welsh language and Welsh culture – it is even mentioned that he was born on St David’s Day. Presumably Armon Ellis arranged that whilst he was still in the womb. The writer of that obituary stated that Armon Ellis served for years as the Chairman of a ‘progressive education committee’ which gave education chiefs Hadyn Williams and Moses Jones support in establishing Welsh medium education. Which is laudable, but whilst they were doing that they failed to notice that the molesting of children less fortunate than their own was rife. Armon Ellis had an interest in politics and stood unsuccessfully in Flintshire for the Liberal Party in the general elections of 1950 and 1951. (Ronnie Waterhouse was the Labour candidate for West Flintshire in 1959.) That would be during the time that the Liberal Party provided a home for Jeremy Thorpe and Cyril Smith. Armon Ellis was a keen Eisteddfodwr. He was the honorary solicitor to the National Eisteddfod, the chairman of the executive committee at Flint in 1969 and the vice-president at Mold in 1991. Niclas is an Eisteddfodwr as well. He was President of the National Eisteddfod in Denbigh in 2013 and has been stage leader at the National Eisteddfod, the Urdd Eisteddfod and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. Ronnie Waterhouse liked Eisteddfodau too! He was the President of the Llangollen International Eisteddfod 1994-1997. Now anyone who knows anything about Eisteddfodau knows that they take a huge amount of organising, rehearsing and work in general and if you are an enthusiastic Eisteddfodwr you will know everyone else involved, including across different generations. Niclas will have had to have worked very hard indeed not to have known Ronnie and Ronnie will have had to have worked very hard not to have known Armon Ellis. They are different generations of a very similar sort of person.

Indeed the founder of Llewellyn Jones solicitors firm was an earlier version of Ronnie/Armon Ellis/Niclas. He was Frederick Llewellyn-Jones, who was born in Bethesda back in 1866 and who died in 1941. He went to Bala College and then studied law at Aberystwyth. He married a woman from Ruthin which is perhaps why he ended up in the north east of Wales. He was the Liberal and then Liberal National MP for Flintshire. Llewellyn-Jones was a Governor of both Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities, a member of the Holywell School Board, had positions with the Ministry of Health, was a Governor of the Welsh National Museum and the National Library of Wales and was a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards. Niclas, several generations later, is a member of the Gorsedd. of the Bards.

I could continue to map the connections between people with these interests for eternity. J.E. Daniel, one of the founders of Plaid and father of the corrupt judge Huw who has done so much himself to conceal the wrongdoing of those we know and love, was a professor at Bala College (later known as the Bala-Bangor College); I also seem to remember that the election literature sent out by Alun Ffred Jones, former leader of Gwynedd County Council and then AM for Arfon, brother of Dafydd Iwan, also a former leader of Gwynedd County Council and former President of Plaid, mentioned that their father had a connection to the Bala-Bangor College. I sometimes wonder why people get so excited about alleged masonic links, because there are so many other commonalities between so many of those we know and love and the people who colluded with them. Now I don’t really mind if everyone with an interest in the Welsh language or literature or history or Welsh institutions or Eisteddfodau hobnobs together, because I’m quite interested in those things as well so I can understand that there will be certain places and institutions to which people with such interests will gravitate towards. However, the sort of inner circle from which Ronnie and Armon Ellis and Niclas have emanated is very cliquey. The one thing that those outside the circle notice is that there is definitely a preservation of the influential positions for the offspring of those within the circle. (This phenomenon is written all over Niclas’s biography.) I know an excellent sociologist of Wales who spent forty years studying this and he once observed that these people were actually Tories. They’d never identify as such because they identify as Welsh, but their values are Tory and the biggest clue of all is that it will be their children who will take over the positions of power from them. Thus Niclas ends up as a solicitor advocate defending a scumbag who grossly abused people from backgrounds far less fortunate than Niclas’s or Ronnie’s or Armon Ellis’s et al. And the whole lot of them did a really big favour for a Tory Gov’t who would have done just about anything to keep the lid on a major scandal that had been allowed to get completely out of control under Margaret Thatcher’s administration.

Of course Niclas didn’t remain a solicitor advocate. Like all the other people involved with the Waterhouse Inquiry, he ended up with a nice little number for himself. He became a judge on the Wales Circuit and sits in the Crown Court, mostly in north Wales. He has also been a member of the S4C authority and is of course well-known for being a commentator on Welsh football. I knew someone a few years ago who told me that Niclas has a reputation in Court for being very grandiose and pompous. I’m not sure that anyone who, as a career move, defended a man who buggered, molested and violently assaulted scores of children over a period of many years – and almost certainly did far worse as well even if Ronnie wouldn’t admit it – has anything to be grandiose or pompous about.

The rather more rational judge involved in the action against the ‘Outlaws’ bikers club also starred at the Waterhouse Inquiry, Merfyn Hughes QC. Merfyn was counsel for the six Local Authorities that succeeded Gwynedd and Clwyd County Councils (Gwynedd and Clwyd Councils were conveniently dissolved in a reorganisation in 1996 just as the sheer scale of the child abuse that had gone on started to dawn on everyone). The solicitor representing those six successor authorities who instructed Merfyn was the crooked solicitor Ron Evans, who had previously been County Secretary and Solicitor for Gwynedd County Council. Ron’s name is all over the documents that I have relating to the many attempts that Gwynedd Social Services made to land me in hot water, which involved their staff perjuring themselves on every occasion. It is very clear from the documents that I have that Lucille Hughes had a hotline to Ron Evans and Ron was fully aware of the scale of the wrongdoing – my documents suggest that Ron was actually the Brains behind the whole lot of Lucille’s gang. I have provided full details of Ron Evans’s involvement in the posts that describe my legal battles with Gwynedd Social Services. Merfyn was another who rose to the top in the years following Waterhouse. In 2010 he was appointed Resident Judge for North Wales. He retired in 2014 and was replaced by Rhys Rowlands. Rhys was, a long time ago, the prosecuting solicitor for the North Wales Police. He was called to the Bar in 1986 and worked from chambers in Chester. So he’ll have been working for the North Wales Police when they were quietly ignoring the presence of a paedophile ring on their patch and arresting youngsters for ludicrous offences who happened to have complained about being molested; when the police were returning injured children to the homes where they had been molested after they had run away, without asking any questions; when Gordon Anglesea, a senior policeman, was abusing children himself; when Mary Wynch and others were being unlawfully arrested and detained in the North Wales Hospital. Rhys will have known about all of it. Then he’ll have seen the end result when he was a barrister and judge – he sat at Crown Courts in Caernarfon and Mold – the people that lot stitched up appearing in Court and often going to prison. Merfyn himself was the judge who presided over the notorious Ched Evans rape case at Caernarfon Crown Court in 2012. Evans always protested his innocence – he did fess up that it was all a bit sordid, a drunken gang bang with people whom he didn’t know – but he robustly maintained that he did not rape anyone. His conviction was quashed in 2016, a retrial was held in Cardiff and he was subsequently found not guilty. Merfyn is another lawyer who was born into a family with legal connections. In 2014 there was a gathering at Mold County Court for a special eulogy in honour of a retired judge who had recently died, David Morgan Hughes QC. The tributes were led by one Mrs Justice Nicola Davies and Merfyn was in attendance – the dead judge was his uncle.

Ron Evans instructed another QC to act for the six successor Local Authorities as well – from April 1998 Joan Butler acted for them. Joan became a QC in 1999, whilst she was working on the Inquiry – just like Patricia Scotland became a Baroness whilst she was acting for the Welsh Office at the Inquiry! Also in 1999 Joan was appointed  as a legal member of the restricted patients panel (Mental Health Review Tribunal). A lot of those restricted patients will have been people who were abused as children in care, perhaps some of whom were abused whilst in care in north Wales. Joan became a Circuit Judge in 2002 and was the designated family judge for Nottingham in 2003. She retired as a circuit judge in Feb 2017.

The insurance company Municipal Mutual were represented at the Inquiry. They were of course right in the thick of it, having been Clwyd County Council’s insurers who threatened to refuse to stump up the compensation to the kids who had been abused if the Jillings Report was ever made public and stated that they would pass liability onto the Councillors themselves, raising the spectre of the Councillors being made bankrupt and losing their homes. It was also Municipal Mutual who wanted Councillor Malcolm King sacked if he revealed the contents of the Report, Malcolm King having already made a nuisance of himself by asking rather a lot of questions about all these kids who claimed to have been abused and the staff who ended up in prison for offences against children. From April 1998 Kathryn Thirlwall QC was counsel for Municipal Mutual. Kathryn is described as a ‘specialist in abuse litigation’. I have found details of two cases that Kathryn has been involved in and as with her work with Waterhouse, Kathryn was not using her expertise to represent people who had been abused, she was acting for organisations responsible for children who had employed paedophiles. That’s the way to advance though. Whilst working on the Inquiry in 1998 Kathryn was appointed an assistant recorder and in April 2010 she was appointed a High Court Judge, Lady Justice Thirlwall! She was appointed to the Court of Appeal for England and Wales in Feb 2017.

Just a few lines about a couple of other names that jumped out at me as I was reading the Waterhouse Report. The North Wales Police were represented by Andrew Moran QC who was instructed by Peter Cowan. Peter Cowan describes himself as a specialist in ‘professional negligence’ and ‘ actions involving the police’. The North Wales Police obviously felt a bit culpable then.

I have mentioned in previous posts how children from all over the UK were placed by Local Authorities in north Wales, many of them from the London boroughs. I suspect that Tower Hamlets in particular must have sent a lot, because they thought it worth their while sending a solicitor and counsel to the Inquiry. The counsel who acted for Tower Hamlets was Bryan McGuire, who is now dead. McGuire’s obituary describes him as being ‘instrumental in many of the changes and developments in public law in recent years, particularly in the fields of…children’s services’…’he sought to improve Local Authority services for the vulnerable’. Of course, that’s why he turned up at the Inquiry to act for a council which had sent the children in it’s care into the embrace of a brutal paedophile gang. McGuire became a QC in 2010. I did wonder whether there were any high profile Councillors responsible for this fuckwitted decision in Tower Hamlets who later became big names, in the way that Margaret Hodge, Tessa Jowell and Ken Livingstone were involved in some rather shameful things earlier in their careers. My co-researcher has sent me the list of Tower Hamlets Councillors  dating back to the 60s and I don’t recognise any of the names on there from the 70s, 80s and early 90s, which will have been the years when children were sent into danger. However, it’s noticeable that there were frequently Councillors representing the National Front or BNP and they often polled a lot of votes, in one election topping the poll. In later years there are of course references to Councillors who were disqualified as a result of electoral fraud – Tower Hamlets was a Council that saw a number of such scandals and was of course host to the notorious Latfur Rahman. So it was a troubled and of course a very, very poor borough, for many years the poorest in the UK. I did recognise the names of the MPs for the area though – Ian Mikardo and Peter Shore, both Labour. Mikardo was on the left of the party and Shore was a maverick. Shore was a member of Wilson’s Gov’t between 1974-76 and Callaghan’s Gov’t between 1976-79. Both of these administrations – substantially through the Welsh Office – concealed some terrible things in the children’s services and mental health services in north Wales. In later years the dreadful Oona King was elected and then defeated by the even more dreadful George Galloway. I can’t see any connections between anyone down there and those we know and love in north Wales however. I do wonder if kids from Tower Hamlets who had been abused would even have got as far as their MP – they may not even have felt able to do that. Tower Hamlet’s has had some child abuse scandals of it’s own. It managed the St Leonards Home in Essex which was closed down in the 1990s after a number of staff were imprisoned for abusing children. In 2014 there were also allegations that Jimmy Savile had frequented facilities managed by Tower Hamlets. There was one other interesting feature about Tower Hamlets – it was a stronghold of certain Top Doctors. The Royal London Hospital was there, as was Barts. I am absolutely certain that those we know and love will have had a contact down there – if anyone can give me any information, do drop me a line. The only one tentative link that touches on the contents of this blog is that Ian Mikardo and his wife died in Cheshire, where I can only assume they had retired. The tentacles of the north Wales paedophile ring did of course reach out into Cheshire – John Allen set up a branch of the Bryn Alyn Community there and dear old Lucille Hughes was a senior manager in Cheshire Social Services before she returned to Gwynedd to facilitate the paedophile ring on her home turf. It’s a long shot, but you never know…

When I told someone earlier who I would be blogging about in this post I received an e mail saying ‘jolly good, that lot are undoubtedly part of the equation of injustice and criminality spanning decades in north Wales’.

As for all these proud patriots who love the Welsh language and Welsh culture and showed their commitment to these things by concealing a network of vicious criminals who were serving up children to members of the British establishment, I only need point to Dr Dafydd Alun Jones. Who once stood for Plaid, who shamelessly traded on his credentials as a Welsh speaker from north Wales and who at one point was telling English people that if they wanted mental health care they should go back to England. Yet at the same time, Dafydd was travelling to England to hold private clinics for English people and charging them a lot of money for doing this – whilst he was being paid to hold NHS clinics in Ysbyty Gwynedd for which he simply never turned up. He also has probably imported more people with drug problems and mental health problems from English metropolitan areas in order to pile them high in his ‘nursing homes’ or use his ‘substance abuse services’ than any other person in Wales. Whilst at the same time helping his mistress Lucille Hughes conceal the paedophile ring that she knew was in operation when she was Director of Gwynedd Social Services. No doubt when Dafydd finally turns his toes up, his fellow patriots will all be flying the Ddraig Goch at half mast. Whilst the rest of Wales cracks open the champagne.

Crime and Punishment: Addition to Previous Posts

Firstly an apology to readers. I had planned to publish this post yesterday, but my site inexplicably went down yesterday evening for several hours. I contacted my hoster and was told that there was a problem with the server but no-one quite knew why – a number of readers e mailed me to ask me if I was aware that no-one could access the site. I am constantly reminded by people that because of what I am publishing there will be many who would like to see this site disappear and that my personal safety may well be in danger. If the site does disappear please be reassured that I and my technical advisors have planned for this eventuality and it will be resurrected as soon as possible. As for my personal safety – well that was compromised for years when I lived in Gwynedd and was being harassed and threatened, but no-one took a blind bit of notice although what was happening to me was public knowledge. The most entertaining suggestion came from my lawyer who told me that I ought to ‘contact the police’ after I was followed and harassed by a police officer with a gun that he should not have had. I’m not sure which police she thought that I ought to contact -presumably the colleagues of the one who’d followed me with a gun, who were also the former colleagues of Elfed Roberts who had me arrested for having pink hair and calling his car a penismobile. And no doubt in the event of the police concerned being charged, their trial would be presided over by Judge Huw Daniel. I decided that a better option would be to leave the area and publish what they were all doing. Someone has also e mailed me to draw my attention to a seemingly defunct website, claiming to be a history project concerning the mental health services in north Wales, entertaining titled ‘The Madness of North Wales’. I do know about this site, it seems to have been established as yet another attempt to air-brush the horrors of the North Wales Hospital out of history. The project does not seem to have gone very far despite the roll call of local politicians who put their names to it (most of whom have been outed on this blog as concealing the horrors of the North Wales Hospital and turning their backs on the plight of desperate patients) – I think it’s been overshadowed by ‘Service Shenanigans’ actually. My correspondent has observed that the site seems as neglected as the patients. He and I are also wondering whether someone with a sense of humour came up with the title and the Top Doctors and their acolytes missed the irony.

My post ‘News Round Up and Crime Report, May 14 2017’ mentioned how I seemed to have been fingered by my old muckers in the mental health services for a murder which -fairly obviously – I knew nothing about, ie. the killing of Rachel Nickel. Last night, after remembering the bizarre visit that I received from the Met, I thought that perhaps I ought to find out a bit about the man who was convicted of the murder that I was questioned about. The man who was eventually convicted of murdering Rachel was, as mentioned previously, one Robert Napper. Wiki tells us that Robert Napper is currently in Broadmoor after being convicted of two murders, one manslaughter, two rapes and two attempted rapes. As in many such cases there seems to have been a dearth of forensic evidence but much talk of the terrible nature of the crimes concerned and the diagnosis of ‘paranoid schizophrenia’ that has been given to Napper. Napper was already in Broadmoor when in 2008 he was convicted of the manslaughter of Rachel. Napper is also ‘thought’ to have committed more crimes, including 70 rapes – but there is no mention of any evidence at all linking him, someone just thinks that he did it and this has now become part of folklore… Napper had a difficult childhood, was fostered and sexually assaulted when he was 13. For six years he received psychiatric treatment – from a name which will be familiar to readers of this blog, the Maudsley. The Maudsley that ‘trained’ Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and employed Dr Paul Bowden, who subsequently remained silent regarding the criminal behaviour of Dafydd when it was brought to his attention. As with other people featured on this blog who have been convicted of very serious crimes, for all I know Napper may be guilty – but like the others, he has encountered institutions who have demonstrably acted dishonestly yet it was the word of these people that was relied upon to ‘assess’ Napper, his guilt and his ‘dangerousness’. In the absence of forensic evidence, it is a little worrying. At Napper’s trial, the Judge described him as ‘a very dangerous man’. That judge was Sir John Griffith Williams – who for years had worked on the Chester and Wales circuit, the circuit that was dogged by allegations of corruption. Griffith Williams was Treasurer of the Circuit between 1993 and 1995, Leader between 1996 and 1998, a Circuit Judge in 2000 and a Senior Circuit Judge and Recorder of Cardiff between 2001 and 2007. In 2007 he became a Justice of the High Court and has been a presiding Judge of the Wales Circuit since 2010. So he will have been networked into many of those who were less than honest who also worked on the Chester and Wales circuit previously named on this blog.

Now for a bit more information on Sir John Kay, who granted Gwynedd County Council a High Court injunction against me on the ‘evidence’ of two employees of Gwynedd Social Services who perjured themselves, one of whom had never met me and one whom had met me on two or three occasions. I have previously mentioned that Kay had rejected the appeal of Jeremy Bamber, someone who’s conviction was partly based on the evidence of an ‘expert’ psychiatrist who seems to have supplied some rather misleading evidence  – there is now substantial concern regarding the safety of Bamber’s conviction (please see post ‘Family Annihilation’). Kay however, sitting with Lord Justice Holland and Lady Justice Hallett, did overturn the conviction of Sally Clark, a lady who was convicted of killing her two young children after Sir Roy Meadow, another ‘expert’ medical witness, spouted hogwash at her trial. It should have been obvious to anyone with a knowledge of statistics at the time that it was hogwash, but as in the case of the Rev Emyr Owen and the severed penis that nonetheless achieved an erection (see post ‘Updates, Common Themes and News, May 5 2017’) it was hogwash that no-one challenged. Although Sir John Kay overturned Sally’s conviction, he made a point of stating that the pathologist’s failure to share crucial information with the other investigating doctors – the information in question being that one of the babies had died of a bacterial infection, so very obviously had not been smothered by Sally as stated by the other Top Doctors – was ‘entirely accidental’. Although the point of a pathologist is to ascertain the cause of death and PASS THAT INFO ON… Interestingly enough Sir John Kay in  1994 presided over a high profile case involving five paedophiles at Swansea Crown Court. The children involved were described by Kay as being a ‘particularly damaged set of children’ who were in council care because the offences against them had ‘started within families’. It was stated at the trial that in the case of one of the convicted men that there was ‘sad evidence’ that he had been a victim of abuse himself. In order to protect the children involved the convicted men were never identified and there is very little information available about the circumstances of the abuse, although it seems to have taken place in south west Wales. Since Kay presided over this trial, it has been revealed that there were serious problems in the children’s social services in south west Wales, particularly Swansea – they were mired in scandal and there was evidence of serious failure after the murder of baby Aaron Gilbert in 2005. Again, the paedophiles imprisoned by Kay may have been guilty as charged – but there was very probably a dysfunctional children’s service involved, as well as a judge who had recently issued an injunction against someone on the basis of untruthful affidavits supplied by two social workers who were employed by Gwynedd Social Services which had a paedophile ring operating within it. And the two social workers were being directly instructed to give evidence by the Director of those Social Services, Lucille Hughes, who a few years later was named as knowing about the paedophile ring but failing to respond.

I have previously mentioned the case of Michael Stone, who was convicted of the murders of Dr Lin Russell and her daughter Megan, as well as the attempted murder of her other daughter Josie. Michael Stone has always maintained his innocence – there was no forensic evidence against him at all and he only came to the attention of the police after the crime was committed because a helpful psychiatrist rang the police and told them that he thought that Stone had Done It. In much the same way that a helpful psychiatrist rang the police and suggested that I might have stabbed a young woman on Wimbledon Common 49 times on the basis of absolutely no evidence at all – but that psychiatrist knew that I was Extremely Dangerous because they’d been told this by another psychiatrist in the wake of me making a serious complaint about him, who was also concealing the activities of a paedophile gang himself.

Michael Stone was convicted in 1998 at Maidstone Crown Court. The presiding judge was Justice Ian Kennedy. No forensic evidence against Stone was presented, but a psychiatrist’s ‘opinion’ maintained that Stone ‘was in the mood for killing’. Three prisoners who had been on remand with Stone claimed that he had confessed to them. One of them, Barry Thompson, subsequently retracted his confession and was described as ‘completely unreliable’ and another, Mark Jennings, had been paid for his story by the press and had been promised further payment if Stone was subsequently convicted. The third prisoner who claimed that Stone confessed to him was Damien Daley. This conviction was quashed in 2001 by Lord Justice Kennedy, Lord Justice Maurice Kay and Lady Justice Hallett on the grounds that the testimony of the three prisoners was discredited. A retrial was ordered. Stone was found guilty at the retrial at Nottingham Crown Court – presided over by Justice Poole – in 2001. Stone was then granted leave to appeal against this conviction by Lord Justice Treacy. The second appeal was heard in 2005 by Lord Justices Rose, Moses and Walker. Lord Justice Rose agreed that Damien Daley was ‘a dishonest criminal with an ability to lie when it suited him’. Daley agreed that he lied on a regular basis. Yet his evidence against Stone was the basis on which Stone was convicted. In September 2013 leave for a further appeal was refused by Lord Justice Aikens. It was stated that this was the end of the matter. Stone’s lawyers wanted a bootlace found near the scene of the crime re-examined using contemporary DNA technology – the bootlace ‘went missing’ after this request was made.

Michael Stone remains in prison although no forensic evidence links him with the crime and despite admissions that people who gave ‘evidence’ against him lied repeatedly. The identity of the psychiatrist who made the phone call pointing the finger at Stone has never been made public.

An awful lot of background information has been released about Michael Stone. He endured a troubled childhood and was physically and sexually abused whilst in children’s homes (we’ve been here before haven’t we). At the time of the crime, he was known to have experienced mental health problems and to have used heroin and had been in the care of the West Kent Health Authority, Kent Social Services and Kent Probation Service. Such were the ‘failings’ involved that an inquiry was held in 2002 – and it was Chaired by our old friend Robert Francis QC, before he was Sirred. The Robert who attempted to have me imprisoned for ‘harassment’ in 1991 because I had repeatedly written letters stating that there was criminal activity and serious abuses happening in the mental health services – Robert was requesting my imprisonment whilst acting for one of the psychiatrists, Dr X (ie. Dr Tony Francis) that I had complained about. (Please see post ‘The Sordid Role of Sir Robert Francis QC’.) Robert’s report wasn’t published in 2000 though – it was published at a later date and further information was added in 2002. Despite enormous shortcomings in the ‘services’ having been identified, Francis maintained that there was ‘nothing to suggest that the overall care provided by the social services or the probation service were other than expected’ (well I’d expect them to be crap actually and I suspect that Francis would quietly have expected that as well). Francis concluded that this was ’emphatically not a case of a man with a dangerous personality disorder being generally ignored by the agencies or left at large’ and that there was no suggestion that he was ‘deprived of any service which would have made him less of a danger’. Stone’s lawyers noted that Francis’s report contained a number of inaccuracies. Francis’s overall conclusion was that the murders couldn’t have been prevented. Dr Shaun Russell, the husband of Lin and father of Megan and Josie, differed and stated very clearly that had everybody done their jobs properly the crime would not have happened. Shaun Russell was actually very impressive at the time as the one voice of reason – he spoke eloquently of the sympathy that he felt for Stone when he heard the details of Stone’s life and he also seemed to see straight through the crap that was emanating from the ‘services’ and Robert Francis. The ‘services’ had screwed up big style and had also at times lied to conceal their shortcomings.

The aftermath of all this caused the New Labour Gov’t to go into overdrive regarding the problem of ‘personality disordered’ patients who were categorised as ‘untreatable’. By this time I was well-acquainted with how the mental health services actually conducted business and as far as I could see the diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’ meant no more than that for a multitude of possible reasons, the mental health services didn’t want to treat the person concerned, although the person in question may be desperately trying to gain help. I suspect that the Gov’t knew this as well. New Labour stated that they would pass legislation enabling people with ‘personality disorders’ to gain treatment and documents such as ‘Personality Disorder: No Longer A Diagnosis Of Exclusion’ were eventually produced. Something interesting happened at this time – psychiatrists went apeshit, and lobbied the Gov’t en masse. Politicians admitted to receiving numerous communications from psychiatrists maintaining that no matter what legislation was passed they would continue to choose whom they would or would not treat. At the time someone remarked on the irony of all this to me. I was told that Robert Bluglass was a strong opponent of the proposed legislation but it was actually the sort of pronouncements that he had made – regarding people that he and his colleagues ‘knew’ were ‘dangerous’ because of their ‘personality disorders’ – that had led to these proposals. (The relevant phrase Bluglass is ‘hoisted by your own petard’.) In a panic, New Labour did what it did on a number of other occasions – passed some very dangerous ill thought-out legislation ie. the Mental Health Act 2007, which stated that ‘dangerous’ people with ‘mental disorders’ could be locked up even if they had not yet committed a crime. My co-researcher and I have not been able to find any information that suggests that any part of this legislation has ever been repealed, although the debate concerning it now seems to have stopped. However patients are still killing themselves after they’ve been refused treatment on the grounds that they have a ‘personality disorder’ – just look at the record of dear old Dr Tony Roberts and the Hergest Unit… The legislation hasn’t stopped serious crime and it hasn’t secured treatment for patients who are requesting it but are being denied it – time to scrutinise the conduct of psychiatrists rather than the patients perhaps… It would be a good idea to actually prosecute them when they have been found to have broken the law as well.

Family Annihilation?

Earlier today I was reading an article about the phenomenon of ‘family annihilation’, ie. the murder of several members of the same family by another family member. Received wisdom maintains that this is usually perpetrated by a man and that he very often kills himself after committing the murders. Although examples of this undoubtedly exist, the article that I read, like so many articles that I read regarding the ‘psychological profiling’ of offenders, was really quite flaky (excellent examples of such flakiness are currently being provided by the plethora of ‘experts’ spouting vacuous rubbish about the man who has just committed the ‘Westminster terrorist attack’ – he actually doesn’t fit any of the previous ‘profiles’ drawn up for terrorists but that hasn’t stopped the ‘profilers’ from commentating).

The article that I read this morning conflated several historical examples of ‘family annihilation’ and I couldn’t see that they actually had anything in common – indeed one of the examples given was a famous case involving the brutal rape of a young woman and the murder of her family by a burglar who had tried to blame the murders on her. However, there was a case mentioned in the article from 1985 that I remember very well – the case of Jeremy Bamber, a man who is now serving a life sentence for the murder of his parents, his sister and her two children.

I followed the Bamber case at the time – it received enormous media coverage, because it involved the themes of multiple murder, mental illness and a former model, which is an irresistible combination to a tabloid editor. But the reason that I was so interested in it was that much of the case rested on psychiatric evidence – and I had begun to discover by then that psychiatrists sometimes tell Very Big Lies to conceal their own wrongdoing or mistakes. The Bambers were a wealthy farming family from Essex and one day Jeremy Bamber’s sister, Sheila Caffael (a former model), her parents and her two children were found shot dead. Initially it was assumed that Sheila, who had a history of serious mental illness, had killed her parents, her children and then herself. However the investigation took a turn and the police arrested and charged Jeremy Bamber, alleging that he had committed the murders and blamed his sister. At the time I thought that this would have been quite an easy thing for him to do, particularly as Sheila had a diagnosis of ‘paranoid schizophrenia’ and we all know that ‘paranoid schizophrenics’ are mass murderers don’t we. However I also noticed that there was no forensic evidence against Jeremy Bamber – the ‘evidence’ that really seemed to do for him was a psychiatrist’s opinion that Sheila, who was his patient, would not have been capable of this and had never showed any signs of aggression. The psychiatrist’s evidence at the time was controversial and caused upset to the wider family, not because he stated that Sheila wasn’t aggressive, but because he had stated his opinion that Sheila’s psychotic illness had been precipitated, or at least exacerbated, by an incident that had occurred when she was 17. The psychiatrist alleged that her mother had found her in bed with a boyfriend and had given her such a bad time that it had affected her mental health. The picture of Sheila’s mother painted in Court was dreadful, a sort of Grade A religious maniac, along the lines of Mrs White in the horror film ‘Carrie’. After the case, the extended family gave statements to the media expressing their distress regarding the portrayal of family life chez Bamber, maintaining that it was grossly inaccurate.

Jeremy Bamber has always maintained his innocence, although he has been unsuccessful at appeal. However, a lot of things have come to light since his conviction – including the disappearance of crucial photographic evidence that would support the theory that Sheila had indeed carried out the murders, the discovery of a tape recording of Jeremy’s father ringing for help saying that Sheila had got hold of the shotgun and was going ‘beserk’ and evidence that Sheila’s ex-husband was so concerned about her mental health that he felt that the their children should not be in her care. Jeremy Bamber’s legal team have requested the release of the psychiatric evidence in full – and it has been denied. There is now so much concern about the Bamber case that some people that one would not usually associate with the defending of convicted mass murderers have been campaigning on his behalf, including a former Tory MP. Although I have always wondered whether Bamber was a victim of a dreadful miscarriage of justice, I also always wondered why, if the psychiatrist did lie in this case, he would have done so. I now have a clue. It has been revealed that Sheila’s ‘care and treatment’ was actually very poor. It is alleged that the people treating her barely knew her and furthermore that the family had been raising concerns about her mental health with the people treating her and had been ignored. So pretty much par for the course then. I have now discovered something else. That Sheila had been treated at St Andrew’s Hospital, Northampton. This hospital is notorious. It is a big private hospital that has been at the centre of many allegations of patient neglect and mistreatment. There have also been a number of patient deaths there in worrying circumstances. Some relatives of patients are now demanding an inquiry into what has been happening at St Andrews. Sheila was of course treated there a very long time ago, but as we have seen with the legacy of the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, troubled institutions leave a toxic cloud around them. Because no-one is ever dismissed, struck-off or prosecuted, bad staff remain in post, they transmit their bad practice to future staff, this becomes known and good staff don’t apply for jobs in that region.

I now have documents demonstrating that NOT ONE ‘second opinion’ or ‘expert witness’ involved in my own case dared state in writing that there was very serious abuse happening in the mental health services in north Wales, yet they all knew it. Many of these ‘expert opinions’ actively lied in an attempt to conceal what was happening, others just walked away as fast as they could. In retrospect, I believe that the fairest people involved were Dr James Earp, Dr David Mawson and Dr Chris Jones. They were at least honest enough not to make up ludicrous allegations about my extreme dangerousness – but they didn’t dare document what was actually happening, although they all had the evidence in front of them. James Earp worked in Leicester at a time when, as in north Wales, a paedophile ring was operating in the social services, which will undoubtedly have had a knock-on effect on the mental health services – victims of paedophiles tend to end up in the mental health system. Dr Mawson had been horribly burnt when he had tried to stop serious abuse of patients at Ashworth Hospital. And Dr Chris Jones worked in north Wales himself and would have known exactly what his colleagues were capable of if he dared admit what was happening. Everybody else, including some very big names in UK psychiatry – Prof Robert Bluglass, Prof Nigel Eastman, Prof Tom Burns, Dr Paul Bowden, Dr Robin Jacobson – kept absolutely schtum. The appalling Dr Robert Kehoe, an ‘independent expert’, lied through his teeth and the charming Dr Chris Hunter – whom I had never even met – was right at the centre of the attempts to have me banged up in a secure hospital. (Please see previous blog posts for a full account of the extensive skulduggery.)

In view of the evidence that I now have in my possession regarding how psychiatry and the legal system actually work, I don’t think that it is entirely improbable that Jeremy Bamber has ended up serving a life sentence because someone wanted to conceal the fact that St Andrew’s had a patient whose care and treatment was not what it should have been and who subsequently murdered her family.

What will make it such an uphill struggle for people like Jeremy Bamber if they are indeed innocent is the serious nature of the crimes for which they have been fitted up. Who is going to want to defend someone who’s killed a number of other people? What if one defends them and they are actually guilty?

A prime example of a murder so dreadful that no-one would ever want to defend who did it was the murder of Mabel Leyshon from Menai Bridge. She was an old lady whose body was found horribly mutilated – it was alleged that whoever had killed her had decanted some of her blood off into a cup and drank it, her intestines had been removed and spread around and various artefacts in the room had been arranged in a bizarre ritualistic way. The killing horrified north Wales – but the region received an even bigger shock when an arrest was made. The person arrested for the murder was the paperboy, 17 year old Matthew Hardman. The North Wales Police let it be known that they were absolutely convinced that Hardman was guilty, although he protested his innocence. The only ‘evidence’ that I ever heard about pointing to Hardman was a partial footprint of a training shoe.

I do not know Matthew Hardman or anyone who knows him, but there were a lot of rather strange things about this case. This was a boy of 17 who had left school weeks before who had allegedly murdered an old lady and had done various terrible things with her body, including drinking her blood. No-one from his school ever remembered anything about him that was even untoward, yet alone suggested that he was capable of this. Yet when he was found guilty, Mathew Hardman was judged as ‘not being mentally ill’ and was sent to prison. Everyone was gobsmacked – if he had actually done this, by definition he wasn’t on the same planet as the rest of us and everyone wondered why he had not been sent to a special hospital like Ashworth, where people who commit this sort of crime usually end up. Some years ago I was told that the person who ‘assessed’ Matthew Hardman wasn’t even a psychiatrist. I had presumed that one of our local home grown bits of talent such as the notorious Dr Laurence Chesterman had carried out the ‘assessment’ and as ever declared the offender to be not at all mentally ill, lest someone actually had to treat him. But I was told that the ‘assessment’ had actually been carried out by a Hergest nurse who was doing a PhD on offenders. If this is true, I find it deeply worrying – a PhD student, from a dreadfully troubled local psychiatric unit, was deemed suitable to carry out an assessment in a case like this. I knew the Hergest nurse named and he was no better than the rest of them there. The person who told me this claimed to have actually discussed Matthew Hardman with this assessing nurse and the nurse allegedly maintained that Hardman wasn’t ill, he was just obsessed with vampires, as evidenced by his fondness of the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I could barely believe what I was hearing – every teenager in the country at that time watched Buffy, they didn’t all murder and disembowel an old lady down the road. I know that I only received this information second hand, but from what I now know of the Hergest Unit and it’s dodgy practices after receiving a huge amount of documentation previously denied to me, I am prepared to believe that this could have happened.

Regarding the flakiness of the whole diagnostic process, there was a very interesting story some weeks ago in the Daily Post online, concerning Matthew Hardman. The Daily Post reported the comments of yet another psychiatric nurse, this time someone who met Hardman when he was sent to HMP Altcourse, who was allegedly providing a ‘chilling insight’ into Matthew Hardman. The nurse in question was promoting a book that he had written. This nurse made some very telling comments. The nurse spent a year ‘working with’ Hardman BEFORE his conviction, presumably when he was on remand. This nurse was the first ‘medical person’ to ‘examine’ him. But he was a nurse – most nurses do not consider that they ‘examine’ someone without the back-up of specialists, usually psychiatrists or clinical psychologists. No matter what one’s views on the hierarchy of these professions is, it is usually a team effort. This nurse told the Daily Post that Hardman was ‘fresh faced, well spoken, and nothing like what the general public may consider a murderer to look like’. (So what does ‘a murderer’ look like? Harold Shipman looked like a middle aged GP.) The insightful nurse stated that he liked Matthew and found that he was an engaging boy. But the nurse noticed that when Matthew arrived at prison he had a ‘huge grin’ on his face. (Teenage boys tend to grin in some very odd circumstances.) But although Matthew Hardman had not yet been convicted, the insightful nurse saw straight through him – he knew that he was watching a ‘killer’ and furthermore that this killer was ‘a paranoid schizophrenic’. So although there was nothing untoward about Matthew Hardman at all, this nurse knew that he was a paranoid schizophrenic (I think even Dr Tony Roberts would need to conjure up a few symptoms for that diagnosis). It gets better – although Hardman maintained his innocence throughout and still does today, the insightful nurse knew that he was guilty. Before the trial. The insightful nurse claimed that the evidence was ‘overwhelming’ – before the trial. Before the evidence had been presented. The insightful nurse had another memory too – that on the day that he was sentenced, Hardman asked him if he thought that he was guilty. Of course the insightful nurse knew that he was guilty, along with being a paranoid schizophrenic, so he said yes. Matthew Hardman curled up into a foetal position and started to cry. Now if he was indeed guilty, Matthew Hardman had just been sentenced to life imprisonment for a dreadful crime, so crying was probably in order. If he wasn’t guilty, as he maintained, the situation was worse than horrific. The insightful nurse told the Daily Post that he had 38 yrs of experience as a mental health nurse – now as I have found out to my cost, mental health professionals can have many years of experience and still be dishonest, corrupt, stupid, bigoted or just plain wrong. Interestingly enough, the insightful mental health nurse mentioned that just after he met Matthew Hardman, he referred Matthew to a psychiatrist who concluded that he had ‘no mental issues’. The mental health nurse found this ‘mind boggling’. Obviously because with his special insight, he knew that Matthew Hardman was a paranoid schizophrenic. This is how such ‘diagnoses’ are made – and opinions conjured up thus are presented in Court as evidence from experts. If you are safely in your sitting room many miles away from these people thirty years after the event reading your medical notes, it is laughable. But if you’re in prison on remand for a serious crime and no-one else actually knows whether you’ve committed it or not and your fate lies with this bunch of dickwits, it’s terrifying

There are numerous inconsistencies and worrying aspects of the Matthew Hardman case – I thought that it was all very odd at the time and that was before I was told about the ‘assessment’ being done by a lacklustre Hergest PhD student who was actually known to me. Whether one believes that Hardman is guilty or not guilty, there are still many worrying things in this case. Hardman’s own mother was a psychiatric nurse.  No-one who knew them had anything bad to say about any of the family. I know that does not mean that he didn’t commit the crime, but if anything has gone wrong in this case at all – whether it is a miscarriage of justice or whether he is guilty but has not been appropriately assessed – the nature of this crime would make it very difficult for Hardman and his family to get a fair hearing. Remember the Birmingham Six, the Guildford Four, Annie MacGuire? They were all completely innocent and spent years in prison because of the disgust at the crimes that they had allegedly committed.

The murder of Mabel Leyshon was so horrific that whoever was accused of that was going to be consigned to society’s dustbin. I have no idea whether Matthew Hardman was guilty or not, or whether he had complained at any point or caused anyone to have a grievance against him within the system, but I do know that psychiatric diagnoses and allegations of ‘dangerousness’ are bandied about with bugger all evidence and this seems to be a classic example. A nurse by his own admission ‘knew’ that Hardman was guilty as soon as he clapped eyes on him – oh and he was a paranoid schizophrenic to boot. No-one else came up with that diagnosis and no ‘symptoms’ are described, but that nurse ‘knew’ so there – and now he’s flogging a book about it all.

Another case worth mentioning here is that of Michael Stone who was convicted of the murder of Lin and Megan Russell and the attempted murder of Josie Russell – again, a terrible crime. Yett Stone maintains that he didn’t do it and the only ‘evidence’, if I remember rightly, was his psychiatrist claiming that Stone fitted the profile of whoever had committed this crime.  I know that psychiatrists lie, they lied about me, a lot of them lied about me and some very famous ones lied about me. And I had not committed an offence, no-one had accused me of murdering someone, all I had done was try and expose some very serious abuses in north Wales – and they were trying to make a case for banging me up in a special hospital. Michael Mansfield’s book ‘Presumed Guilty’ describes how many innocent people end up wrongly convicted because juries do not believe that the police lie on oath in Court. Mansfield maintains that the police lie in Court and they do it regularly. Well psychiatrists lie and they do it regularly too. I note that there is now great concern being expressed in some quarters that Michael Stone is indeed innocent and there is suspicion that the person who attacked the Russells may have actually been Levi Bellfield, currently serving a sentence for the murder of Milly Dowler. Michael Stone, like Jeremy Bamber, has not won an appeal. However Michael Stone’s legal team recently requested the return of a shoelace found at the scene of the crime that did not belong to Stone in order to carry out DNA tests on it – the shoelace never arrived, it ‘went missing’.

Lest any readers believe that there are enough checks and balances in the UK legal system to prevent an entirely innocent person being banged up on the evidence of a dodgy doctor – after all I never was actually imprisoned myself (God only knows how I avoided it though), despite the valiant efforts of so many ‘top doctors’ as the Sun would describe them – I will mention the name of Sally Clark.
