Jennifer’s Diary

In the late 1980s, as I and Brown came under increasing attack from the paedophiles’ friends and some of those known to me in Somerset found themselves in receipt of friendship and generosity from the friends and relatives of the idle rich who had for some reason begun to frequent the Cottage Inn at Fiddington and other locations in the Bridgwater area (eg. see posts ‘Those Who Are Ready To Serve’ and ‘Upper Class Twit Of The Year – Shooting Themselves’), I noticed something rather inexplicable happening to my father where his employment was concerned.

When younger, my father worked in agriculture but in middle age he went to work in a small ailing factory in Bridgwater owned by a company called Redland Quilting. Redland was a company set up years previously by a man called Bill Cockhill, who had been a business associate of my grandpa’s from years previously. After my grandpa died I suspect that Bill began ripping off my father, because from what I remember it was then that things became very difficult. I have no idea how well grandpa knew Bill Cockhill. Bill was chatty and charming but I have been told that he was very unscrupulous.

I don’t think that Bill’s background was quite what Bill liked people to believe that it might have been. Although by the late 1970s Bill was living in a grand house near Bristol, driving Aston Martin cars and had sent his two daughters to expensive schools, Bill had little education and had been to a secondary modern school. My father used to notice that although Bill could do the socialising bit needed for business very well, Bill was not that sharp and not that knowledgeable.

When father went to work at Redland – I think that Bill had persuaded grandpa that this would be a great opportunity, only for it to be a really bum deal – the business side of the company was managed by a man called Ken Dewar and his wife Doreen assisted. Ken and Doreen were big names in the Bridgwater Tories and were also involved with charidee – they helped set up the Bridgwater Samaritans. So imagine everyone’s surprise when in the mid-1970s Bill found that Ken had embezzled thousands of quid from Redland, had stolen an expensive machine and had set up his own business on the back of everything that he’d nicked from Bill. The dosh that had been stolen were the bonuses that were due to my father. Ken Dewar pocketed the lot. Doreen was in on the swindle.

Bill confronted the Dewars and they fessed up. I don’t know why Bill didn’t prosecute them – did they have knowledge of wrongdoing on Bill’s part perhaps? – but Bill cut them out of his life and business, photocopied all the evidence that he’d gathered on them and sent it to all Ken Dewar’s business associates. Dewar’s business plans came to an end, but the Dewars still seemed to enjoy an affluent existence and were not frozen out of polite society in Bridgwater. They established the Samaritans AFTER Bill had exposed the Dewars as crooks…

The Dewars had a son called Neil who was quite a bit older than me whom I never met, who I think might be the Dr Neil Dewar who works as an environmental scientist at the University of Capetown. The Dewars also had a daughter, Fiona, who was about two years older than me with whom I sometimes played before her parents robbed my father. When I was a young adult, Fiona Dewar appeared in the media constructed as a Plucky Young Woman after she beat up a thief who tried to steal her car. Fiona would have been able to do that, when she was a teenager she was noted for being very tall, she was about six foot. I did note the irony of the Dewars being interviewed by the press in their capacity as crime fighters…

I was always of the opinion that father should have confronted the Dewars, but he didn’t. Bill saw them off and I suspect that father thought that the Dewars would then keep a discreetly low profile. Of course they didn’t, they played a leading light in Bridgwater which I suspected left father in a difficult position. A bit like all those in north Wales who had been stuffed over by Dafydd et al but who didn’t feel able to say anything.

Many years ago, it was suggested to me that the Freemasons in Somerset targeted my father after my grandfather had died as a revenge attack, not being able to get at grandpa himself, who loathed the Masons and openly took the piss out of them. I dismissed this out of hand at the time, but then when I began investigating Dafydd et al who were definitely protected by Freemasonry, I received messages telling me to look into what happened to my father because Masonic corruption was almost certainly involved. In a town like Bridgwater, Freemasonry would have been very influential in the 1960s and 70s, so for a while I thought, well it might have been possible. Since I began the blog, the information has been coming in…

After the departure of the Dewars, Redland carried on as a near sweat-shop. I worked there in the summer holidays after my O levels and there were a few things which were quite surreal. The workers were Bridgwater people who lived nearby, most of them were young women with no qualifications who were desperate to get married and have kids to escape the drudgery of their jobs. There were three older women who worked much harder and who were very chatty. One of them was lovely, a mother of two who’s son had been at school with me. She knew much of what I have written about on this blog with regard to Bridgwater, the dreadful conduct of some professional people and their corruption, but she took the view that people like her and her husband would never have been listened to if they had ever raised concerns. One of the other older women was later found to be stealing from the business in quite a big way – although not on the sort of scale that the Dewars did – and Bill sacked her.

Bill’s daughter Sheena worked at Redland that summer with me. Sheena was training to be a riding instructor and was an incredibly hard worker. I became quite friendly with Sheena throughout those weeks, although I never saw her again afterwards.

Bill himself would turn up at Redland for two or three days a week. He would work alongside everyone and chat, but the style that Bill lived in was certainly noted by the workers who really were paid a pittance, even by the standards of unskilled work, so there was resentment towards him.

There was another visitor to Redland as well, someone who was not the sort of man one would trip over in Bridgwater that often. Michael Biggs, or as he was always called with a degree of sarcasm, Mr Biggs. Mr Biggs was posh. Really posh, not just a GP in Bridgwater and a County Councillor. Mr Biggs had been to Eton and had been an officer in the Guards. He was a ‘businessman’ who lived in Godalming, Surrey.

Michael Biggs was one of Redland’s customers. For a few years, Redland manufactured things that were referred to as ‘freezer bags’. They were the forerunners of cold storage boxes. I always thought that the freezer bags were really naff, but they were designed to enable frozen food to be stored in them without it melting. There were no other similar products on the market at the time, so there was a demand for them. It was Michael Biggs who sold the freezer bags, from his base in Godalming.

Living in Somerset and knowing many small businessmen and farmers I was well-versed regarding the sins of the ‘middle man’. The bloke who did nothing but sell a product at vast profit which had been farmed or made by someone else who was paid bugger all. Michael Biggs was a middle man par excellence. He purchased the freezer bags from Redland for something like £1 each. Michael flogged them for nearly £9. Biggs didn’t even pack the bags – Redland did absolutely everything, made the freezer bags and packed them, even putting the instruction leaflets in before sealing the packaging. Michael Biggs would arrive in Bridgwater once a week with a trailer and Range Rover and the Redland workers would load Biggs’s trailer with the freezer bags and he’d drive back to Godalming with them. Biggs would watch us load the trailer, he didn’t put one bag in himself. Neither did Mr Biggs splash out on advertising more than he had to. The rather boring looking lady holding the freezer bag who appeared on the leaflets and in the adverts was Biggs’s daughter. As far as I can work out, all Biggs did was store the freezer bags in Surrey, place a few small ads in cheap n cheerful publications and then dispatch the freezer bags. The customers had to pay postage and packing.

I cannot fathom why Bill entered into this arrangement with Biggs. Bill was a sharp and greedy man, he knew that Biggs was making a killing because he used to talk about it. Biggs ordered Bill about as well. It was Biggs who insisted that Redland should pack the freezer bags as well as manufacture them and yet Bill did not say piss off, you’re already doing really well out of all of this. When we were loading Biggs’s trailer, Sheena and Bill would help with the grafting, but not Biggs.

I didn’t visit Redland again after the summer of 1979 but obviously I heard about what went on there. I was reminded of Mr Biggs again in 1988, because I found myself living near him when I worked in the Cancer Research Campaign team at Surrey University. In my post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK’ I detailed how my work at Surrey was plagiarised and given to Professor Nicola Curtin of Newcastle-upon-Tyne University, who published it with her name on it. I was made redundant after a year on the grounds that there was no further funding for me, while my work was used to secure further funding which was given to other researchers.

My post ‘Reports Of Death Were Greatly Exaggerated’ describes a big research fraud that was perpetrated by those associated with my colleagues at Surrey which resulted in a scandal in 1990, causing one member of the team to kill himself when the fraud was exposed. One person involved was Dr Peter Macguire, a former colleague of Dr Tony Francis. Macguire was a psychiatrist who suddenly decided that he was going to become a cancer researcher, just at the time that I entered cancer research.

By the time that I was working in Surrey, Dafydd et al were in full pursuit of me, as documents in my possession demonstrate. They were also using unlawful means to trace my home addresses.

It was when I lived in Surrey that a serial rapist targeted me. I got away, but he raped the woman who was the next person along the footpath after me.

The CRC team at Surrey was led by Prof Vincent Marks, who’s brother Dr John Marks was President of the BMA. When I worked for Vincent Marks, his brother was in full battle with Health Secretary Ken Clarke. They loathed each other. No-one won the battle because they were both concealing the wrongdoing of Dafydd et al.

In Surrey I was unable to get effective NHS care. Professor Marks recommended a truly appalling psychiatrist called Michael Browne, telling me that he was ‘very good’. He wasn’t. Browne’s base, Brookwood Hospital, had been named and shamed repeatedly for neglecting patients so badly that they killed themselves. A few years after I left Surrey, Michael Browne was named in a scandal involving the gross clinical negligence of a young man who died in Wormwood Scrubs. See post ‘The BMA At The Root Of Another Mystery?’.

I registered with the GP nearest to where I lived, a man called Michael Hudson. On my first visit he was rude and hostile and refused to assist me. Hudson was later struck off but I don’t know why. I didn’t return to Hudson, but instead went to another surgery, where I met a much nicer GP, Nigel Baldock. Dr Baldock made it clear that he had no opinion of psychiatrists. But guess what happened after my first consultation with Dr Baldock? He received a phone call from ever such a helpful man from north Wales who was so worried about me and just wanted to help, Dr D.G.E. Wood (see post ‘The BMA At The Root Of Another Mystery?’). That’s the D.G.E. Wood who came from Bristol, who’s father was a Top Doc in Bristol and who still lived there, the D.G.E. Wood who had a whole corrupt network in Bristol, linked with David Hunt’s corrupt network in Bristol. The Lord David Hunt who spent so many years in the Welsh Office concealing the crimes of Dafydd, Francis, Wood et al, as detailed in previous posts.

Bill Cockhill lived in Bristol, his network was there and Redland was a company which originated in Bristol.

When I lived in Surrey, I was walking in the Devil’s Punch-Bowl when I had a fall and sustained quite a nasty injury. I didn’t break anything, but I tore ligaments. I went to the hospital in Guildford who told me that there was nothing that they could do about this, I just had to go home and rest my ankle. I was able to walk again after a couple of weeks but the injury never healed properly and I still have a weakness in my ankle. I was later told that there was a lot more that the hospital could have done and that they knew this.

Then there was the time in Surrey that I sliced my finger open and rang the GP on call to ask for advice as to how to treat the injury because the adipose tissue was falling out which was worrying. He told me that there was nothing that he could do and rang off.

When I worked for Vincent Marks, I lived in a village called Thursley. It was just down the road from Godalming. Mr Biggs lived in Godalming. Biggs lived at The Mill, Mill Lane. Biggs is listed as being a Director of M.R.B. Holdings, a Director of M.R.B. Properties, a Director of Hatch Mill Properties Ltd and a Director of Eusalink Ltd. Biggs certainly built an empire on the back of those freezer bags and the badly paid workers of Redland Quilting.

I shared the cottage at Thursley with two young people, Guy and Beth, who were the offspring of well-heeled Surrey professionals but who seemed to be at a rather loose end. Beth’s mother was an educational psychologist and I have been told that she might have been nobbled by Dafydd’s network. Beth’s mum lived in Godalming. For a while, a midwife called Ann shared the house with us. I became quite friendly with Ann, she knew what had happened to me in north Wales and was worried for my safety. She told me that she had witnessed patient harm in hospitals and Top Doctors destroying medical records to conceal it, which was why she left midwifery. Ann was working in a private school for children with difficulties but resigned after just a few months and left Surrey. She discovered more and more about the school which made her increasingly unhappy and I now suspect that she discovered that there was abuse of the children there. She didn’t ever tell me that, but the euphemisms that Ann used I now know to be those used when people are getting the hell out of somewhere because there is abuse of vulnerable people happening. It has also been suggested to me that Ann was either a member of the security services who was sent to befriend me or that she was terrified of what was unravelling in north Wales and fled. See post ‘BMA Calling, BMA Calling’.

It was when I was working at Surrey University in 1988 that upheavals occurred at Redland Quilting. Redland was located off the Bristol Road in Bridgwater. There was a big new development planned and a load of old properties, including some houses and the building which Redland occupied, were going to be demolished. I don’t know whether it was a case of a compulsory purchase order, but as far as I knew, there was no choice, the buildings were going to be demolished. So Redland had to find new premises if it were to continue in business. Bill Cockhill then announced that he had found someone who wanted to buy Redland, which came as quite a surprise to me, it was not the sort of business that would be snapped up. Even more surprisingly, the new owner was a businessman from Nottingham no less, a man called Richard Tennant.

I had worked at Nottingham until Dec 1987, it was where I witnessed the huge research fraud carried out at the Cancer Research Campaign laboratories at Nottingham University, by Prof Robert Baldwin and his merry men and a few women as well (see post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK’). Nottingham was where I made friends with the two medical students who also witnessed neglect and research fraud who later left medicine. One of those medical students had a father who was a Civil Service mandarin. I have found out who he was and there is a blog post coming soon about him. His daughter was lovely, but Baldwin’s henchmen did not like her and she was under fire from them.

Not only had Richard Tennant from Nottingham bought Redland from Bill Cockhill, but Richard explained that Redland would be relocating to Nottingham, so obviously the local Bridgwater workers would all be made redundant. My father was about 60. The ‘redundancy packages’ offered were derisory. Father knew that although he’d worked all his life, he would never get another job again at his age. He was also the sort of person who would never have considered claiming benefits, except for the old age pension which he wasn’t due for another five years.

So Richard Tennant offered father a job in Nottingham, although he knew that father had spent virtually his entire life in Somerset and owned his house there. Richard acknowledged that father couldn’t be expected to sell up and relocate to Nottingham, so after a lot of wriggling around on Tennant’s part, Tennant made an alternative offer to father instead. He offered father a job in Nottingham from Monday to Thursday, along with father being put up in a B&B from Monday to Thursday paid for by Tennant, so that father could commute from Somerset. The pay was higher than father’s previous salary, but wasn’t actually high enough for most people to have said yes to such an arrangement. A younger person beginning a career might have agreed to this, but not a sixty year old man who was physically strong still but who’s health was beginning to decline. But being father he said yes, because, as he said to me, I’ll never get another job and I am not going on the dole.

So father started the long distance commuting. He commented to me that he was surprised to find that the other guests in the ‘B&B’ were young families on the dole with children. I guessed what sort of ‘B&B’ Richard Tennant had chosen in which to house his employee. This arrangement went on for a while, with father getting increasingly knackered and realising that the ‘B&B’ was quite insalubrious really. It transpired that Tennant owned a little flat in Nottingham, so father started using that.

I heard from most other people that Richard Tennant was a charming, pleasant man who wasn’t an unscrupulous old bugger like Bill Cockhill. But father seemed less enamoured of Richard Tennant. It was fairly clear that father was exhausted and was being exploited but did not feel able to do anything about this. I think that he might have tried to raise the subject with Tennant once, because when a relative told father that this was an unacceptable arrangement, father snapped ‘well he’s made it very clear to me that I’m already costing him a fortune’.

The bizarre arrangement continued for a number of years, until father did retire. Father’s life was undoubtedly at risk during those years. His health began failing and the commuting to Nottingham was so exhausting that he was falling asleep at the wheel. Richard Tennant knew about this. Father had what I know damn well was a heart attack. For once father actually allowed a Top Doctor to be called, who told father than one thing that he hadn’t had was a heart attack. Dr fucking Matthews of Nether Stowey knew as well as I did that father had indeed had a heart attack, but not only had Matthews already killed the dad of a girl with whom I went to school by gross neglect, but I have been told that Matthews knew that father had a daughter who would not shut up about the criminal activity that she had witnessed in north Wales.

Richard Tennant stepped in with his generous offer of employment to my father in 1988. I have found a website on which someone but I’m not sure who describes the evolution of Richard’s business. This is Richard’s Story:

The more observant amongst you will have noticed the addition of a new logo onto our website. Well – it’s been going on for a while now – but we’ve created an alliance with Tennant Varipack in Nottingham. And I think we know them well enough now to introduce you….

Established back 1955 by William Cockhill, as Redland Quilting, the Company was a successful supplier of PVC products to the furniture industry.

Mark DarbyIn 1980, the company diversified into the stationery market, producing ring binders and media packs. This was followed a few years later by a change of location and name as Redland Quilting became Redland PVC Products and moved from Bristol to Nottingham. The company changed hands in 1988 when William Cockhill retired and sold the business to Richard Tennant. After the acquisition of Varipack Ltd, the name changed yet again to Tennant Varipack.

Richard is long-time friend of Duraweld and, with an eye to the future, he looked to us to carry on the business, delivering high quality vinyl stationery and packaging products to a national market.

We are thrilled to have Tennant Varipack as part of the Duraweld group and will continue to supply Tennant’s customers under the Tennant Varipack name for many years to come. It is our ambition to grow the market for customised vinyl stationery and promotional packaging from the Nottingham site as well as introduce the many loyal customers of Tennant Varipack to Duraweld’s range of paper-over-board and polypropylene products.

Mark Darby has re-joined the Company in a sales development role, operating out of our Nottingham Sales Office; he is available to visit customers of both Duraweld and Tennant Varipack.

This reminded me of one great mystery regarding Richard Tennant’s purchase of Redland – how did Tennant ever hear about Redland and why did he ever buy it? Tennant’s company was of a very different nature to Redland, it made completely different products. Why did a man in Nottingham with a completely different business purchase an ailing little company in Bridgwater which occupied a building which Tennant knew was being demolished and make all the workers redundant except for father, whom he then worked nearly to death? Tennant had never done business with Cockhill and no-one in Somerset had even heard of Richard Tennant before he declared his interest in buying Redland.

It is mentioned in the website’s spiel that Bill ‘retired’. No, Bill only sold Redland because the building was being demolished. Bill I’m fairly sure continued to be a very busy bee with business interests. Not that Bill was a busy bee for very long after he flogged Redland to Richard Tennant. Because Bill died. Father was upset and deeply shocked because he went to see Bill in Bristol one day, only to find Bill and his wife Marion in bits because Bill had just been told by his Top Doctor that he was ‘riddled with cancer’, nothing could be done and Bill had only weeks to live. Days later Bill died.

Bill was an affluent man who unlike father didn’t loathe Top Docs and keep away from them. Bill probably played golf with them. However Bill did not have any medical education. If Bill was showing signs of cancer, Bill would not have known. Neither would Marion or his daughters. Bill would have been entirely dependent upon the opinion of the Top Doc. Who of course could have been trusted to always do the best for his patients. As Dr ‘you haven’t had a heart attack’ Matthews, Dr Dafydd Alun Jones and my boss’s brother Dr John Marks, President of the BMA will confirm.

In 1988 Dafydd, Tony Francis et al were CC’ing letters regarding ‘evidence’ of my crimes that they were intending to use to have me imprisoned to Tony Chadwick, the BMA’s representative in Wales. Chadwick was even popping up to Bangor to discuss the problem that was me. Chadwick knew that the ‘evidence’ being presented to him was untrue (see eg. ‘THE BLOG POST WHICH WAS HACKED CAN NOW BE READ’ and ‘Gwlad y Menig Gwynion’). Professor Robert Owen was colluding with Dafydd et al to ensure that the crimes of Dafydd et al would be concealed when my complaint was finally ‘investigated’ (see post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’).

Mary Wynch had made legal history by winning her case against Dafydd et al. Alison Taylor had blown the whistle on the abuse of children in north Wales as loud as she could had written to Thatcher and Tony Newton the Secretary of State for Social Security and had been sacked from her job as a social worker by Gwynedd County Council.

Richard Tennant stepped in with his generous offer of employment to my father in the year that I was living just down the road from Michael Biggs and year that Ken Clarke was in an all out war with the brother of my boss Vincent Marks at Surrey University.

Ken Clarke, the Health Secretary during July 1998-Nov 1990, was the Tory MP for Rushcliffe in Nottingham. Before Ken Clarke entered politics, he was a barrister in Nottingham. Ken Clarke remained friendly with barristers and others in Nottingham throughout his years in Parliament. They were on such good terms that at one point Ken’s old Chambers asked him to return as a partner. Ken said no, but he did offer his old mates ‘advice’. Ken Clarke had many business interests throughout his career.

How are you getting on with your One Nation Conservatism and curries then Ken? Fancy a pint? Go on, have another me old mate, it’s amazing what downing a few with the lads can lead to. You hear all sorts of things when people are half-pissed.

Richard Tennant had a famous nephew, Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys! Father knew that Richard’s nephew was in something called the Pet Shop Boys, but I’m not sure that father knew that Neil Tennant was a gay idol among rent boys as well as other gays. Neil Tennant’s wiki tells us that he revealed that he was gay in 1994. Well how did I know that Neil was gay years before then? I wasn’t an active gay male teenager moving in Neil’s circle but I was under no illusions and I don’t think that many other people were either.

Neil Tennant was born and brought up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne as a Catholic. There was a paedophile gang operating in the Newcastle area with direct links to Dafydd’s gang in north Wales/Cheshire.

Neil Tennant moved to London to study at the North London Poly – now London Metropolitan University – and graduated in 1975. He worked for two years as the London Editor for Marvel Comic and gradually moved into music journalism. Tennant ended up editing TV tie-in books for ITV books moved to ITV Books and in 1982 he was appointed News Editor of ‘Smash Hits’. In 1983 he became Assistant Editor. Tennant edited the 1982, 1983 and 1984 editions of The Smash Hits Yearbook.

Buring the 1970s and 80s, John Allen and Dafydd were grooming and trafficking teenaged boys from children’s homes in north Wales to work as rent boys in London and Brighton on a massive scale. Neil Tennant almost certainly heard something about it.

Neil is a Patron of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. He maintains a house in London and a house in County Durham. Up there in Blair’s political stronghold.

In 1998, Tennant was named in a list of the biggest private financial donors to the Labour Party. However, in the 2005 General Election, he voted Lib Dem.

Neil Tennant’s hits include ‘It’s A Sin’ and ‘Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots Of Money)’.

The Chancellor of Surrey University is and was when I worked there Lilibet’s cousin, Edward, the Duke of Kent. His mother, Princess Marina of Greece, was a cousin of Phil the Greek. Since 1967 the Duke of Kent has been Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England and in December 2013, he celebrated 50 years as a Freemason.

Dr Dafydd Alun Jones

The Duke of Kent went to Eton and enjoyed a long career in the British Army, reaching the rank of Field Marshal. Purely on the basis of his talent of course. The Duke was for many years Vice-Chairman of British Trade International, formerly known as the British Overseas Trade Board, and later as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. He was also the Vice-Chairman of the British Overseas Trade Board, in which capacity he became the first member of the Royal family to visit China in 1979 with his focus being on the British Energy Exhibition in Beijing.

From 1971 to 2000, the Duke of Kent was President of English football’s governing body, The Football Association. The Duke has served as the President of The Scout Association since 1975. He also serves as the president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a position in which he succeeded his late mother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. His other roles include President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RNLI, the Stroke Institution, the Royal United Services Institute, the Royal Institution, the British Racing Drivers’ Club and Patron of Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, Kent County Cricket Club, Opera North, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and St Mungo’s Broadway, benefiting the homeless. The Duke is on the advisory panel for the Mountbatten Medal and presents the medal once the decision has been made. The Duke of Kent is one of the Royal Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering. For almost 29 years, the Duke has been the Patron of Endeavour, a national youth organisation. He has also served as Royal Patron of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn since 2001, a position previously occupied by his father. In 2015, the Duke received the Dresden Peace Prize for ‘his contribution to British-German reconciliation’.

The Duke of Kent married Katharine Worsley. Katharine was born at Hovingham Hall, Yorkshire, the only daughter of Sir William Arthington, 4th Baronet and his wife, Joyce Morgan Brunner. Her mother was the daughter of Sir John Brunner, 2nd Baronet and granddaughter of Sir John Brunner, 1st Baronet, the founder of Brunner Mond, which later became ICI. She is a descendant of Oliver Cromwell. Worsley was christened at All Saints’ Church, Hovingham, on 2 April 1933. Her godparents were her maternal uncle Sir Felix Brunner, 3rd Baronet, Major Sir Digby Lawson, 2nd Baronet, her paternal aunt Winifred Colegate and Margaret Fife of Nunnington Hall.

Katharine did not receive any formal education until the age of 10. She was educated at Queen Margaret’s School, York and at Runton Hill School in North Norfolk. At school she was was taught to play the piano, organ and violin. In her final year at Runton Hill, she was formally elected music secretary; in this role, she organized school recitals in Norwich. Katharine left school with a ‘pass’ in oral French and a ‘very good’ in English literature. There was never a category for ‘very good’ at O level, so what Katherine passed I cannot fathom.

Katharine worked for some time in a children’s home in York and worked at a nursery school in London. She failed to gain admission to the Royal Academy of Music, but followed her brothers to Oxford. They went to Oxford University, but Katharine studied at Miss Hubler’s Finishing School, 22 Merton Street, devoting much of her time to music. Perhaps because ‘very good’ at English lit wasn’t sufficient to get Katharine through the doors of Oxford.  At Miss Hubler’s, Katherine was one of only eight pupils and was instructed by three different teachers: The Principal herself, Miss Hubler, taught French literature, painting, and history; a French woman taught cookery; and a Viennese lady taught music.

Katharine met Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, while he was based at Catterick Camp. Edward proposed to her with a ring consisting of ‘an oval sapphire with a round diamond on either side.’ On 8 June 1961, the couple married at York Minster, the first Royal marriage in that location in 633 years. The bride’s father escorted her and the best man was Prince Michael of Kent. Princess Anne was one of the bridesmaids. The Archbishop of York Michael Ramsey conducted the marriage service. Guests included actors Noel Coward as well as members of the British, Greek, Danish, Norwegian, Yugoslavian, Romanian and Spanish Royal families. 273 yards of fabric were used to make her white silk gauze dress which had ‘a high neckline and long sleeves and a commanding train,’ and was designed by John Cavanagh. The Kent Diamond and Pearl Fringe Tiara secured her veil.

Together, the couple have three children: George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews (born 26 June 1962); Lady Helen Taylor (born 28 April 1964); and Lord Nicholas Windsor (born 25 July 1970).

Katharine had an abortion in 1975 due to German measles and gave birth to a stillborn son, Patrick, in 1977, a loss that caused her to fall into a state of severe depression, about which she has spoken publicly.

The Duchess moved to the married quarters in Hong Kong and Germany while her husband was serving at the military. The couple later took numerous royal engagements on behalf of the Queen, including the Ugandan independence celebrations and the coronation of the King of Tonga.

The Duke and Duchess of Kent and some of their family caused a bit of a stir by concerting to Catholicism. It was stressed that because of the time at which they did this it would not affect their rights of succession to the throne. Not that it mattered, because there’s loads more in the queue in front of them.

The Duchess of Kent decided in 2002 not to use personally the style ‘Her Royal Highness’ and to reduce her Royal duties. Since then she has been informally known as Katharine Kent or Katharine, Duchess of Kent, although her formal style (e.g. in the Court Circular) remains HRH The Duchess of Kent. Despite her decision to stay away from public life, the Duchess continues to appear at major events.

In keeping with her withdrawal from full Royal duties in 1996, the Duchess took a position as a music teacher in Wansbeck Primary School in Kingston-upon-Hull. She also taught piano lessons in a rented studio flat near her official residence at Kensington Palace. The Duchess of Kent had served as the President of the Royal Northern College of Music and was the Director of National Foundation for Youth Music, 1999-07. She is Patron of national charity, Making Music, the National Federation of Music Societies, an umbrella organisation for amateur and voluntary music groups. Katharine is among the co-founders of Future Talent, a charity that helps young children with low-income backgrounds pursue a career in music. In May 2016, she hosted a concert for young children at Buckingham Palace in her capacity as founder of Future Talent.

In August 2016, the Duchess became an ambassador for the Samaritans ‘after a volunteer at the Teesside branch reached out to her’. In the way that Ken and Doreen Dewar reached out into the coffers of Redland Quilting in a previous time perhaps. The Duchess had previously been Royal Patron of the Samaritans, 1971-99. So she was Royal Patron when the Dewars were busy reaching out in Bridgwater. The Duchess is also a supporter of UNICEF. Whether small time crooks from Bridgwater were involved with UNICEF I don’t know.

When I was working at Surrey University, there was much discussion of what was felt to be entrenched discrimination against women in university research. My female colleagues were acutely aware of this, because as was typical of most universities as the time, female staff tended to be on insecure research contracts and male staff in tenured posts. This was very noticeable in the Dept of Biochemistry at Surrey where I worked. There were hordes of very active women research fellows, some of them excellent, yet ‘the academics’ (as they called themselves) were a bunch of ridiculous moribund old men who were not up to much. The most illustrious ‘academic’ was Dr Keith Snell who walked around with a permanent sneer on his face, he must have worked really hard at that. Snell didn’t acknowledge my existence and he even snubbed senior research fellows if they spoke to him. It was daft – as someone remarked to me, ‘he really must be not quite adequate to behave like this’.

Those whom received much snottiness from Keith Snell and The Academics included Helen Henneberry, Sheila Hampton and Debra Skene. They were all very good researchers, much better than The Academics. However, Helen, Sheila and Debra did know about wrongdoing and corruption at Surrey and elsewhere. Debra is still at Surrey, she has a Chair there now. Helen was married to Steve, a police officer who was in the Met’s River Police section. Helen knew what was happening to me at the hands of those in north Wales.

At that time, Surrey University boasted of one Professor Daphne Jackson, a nuclear physicist, notable for being the first female professor of physics in the UK. Jackson went to Peterborough County Grammar for Girls, from where she went onto Imperial College in London, which by the time that I was working at Surrey listening to Daphne’s public lectures on the travails of Wimmin in Science, had supplied many of the biggest umbrellas for Dafydd and the gang (see previous posts).

Daphne Jackson moved to what became the University of Surrey at the invitation of Lewis Elton, I think to do her PhD, when he became Head of the Physics Department at Battersea College of Advanced Technology. Daphne became a lecturer and in 1971, Britain’s first female Professor of Physics when she was appointed by University of Surrey.

Lewis Elton is the dad of comedian Ben Elton. My post ‘The Rakes’ Progress’ discusses Lewis, Ben, their network and how much some of them knew about Dafydd et al.

Daphne became the Dean of Surrey University and sat on a range of bodies. She held a senior position at the Meteorological Office and was President of the Women’s Engineering Society and Vice-President of the Institute of Physics.

Jackson ‘campaigned for women’s rights and she was disappointed to see that talented women were lost in lowly jobs because they could not re-enter their career after a break’. In 1985 Jackson devised a plan to help these women by allowing them to work for two years where they could readjust to their discipline after taking a break to have a child, becoming a carer or just because they followed their husband’s career rather than their own. Jackson is reported as saying, ‘Imagine a society that would allow Marie Curie to stack shelves in a supermarket simply because she took a career break for family reasons.’

“Qualified women who are unemployed or under-employed following a career break for family commitments represent an appalling waste of talent and of investment in their initial education. Many such women are eager to return to their original careers or to a new field of activity for which their initial education is relevant, provided that retraining can be given and that they can, at least initially, work on a part-time basis.”

I certainly knew all about such circumstances. After my career in medical research was destroyed – Daphne and her colleagues assisted in this – because I had witnessed the serious crime of the Top Docs and their colleagues in north Wales, I spent years either not working or in jobs such as cleaning, indeed shelf-stacking and care work. I was well aware that my colleagues in those jobs wondered what the hell someone with my qualifications was doing in jobs like that, but I did explain to those with whom I became friends that what was going on in medical research was so bad that I did not regret not being there any more.

Professor Jackson the defender of working wimmin was diagnosed with cancer. Daphne’s obituary tells us that cancer ‘was a disease she was helping to fight through her work with the Institute for Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital’. So Daphne would have been party to that research fraud perpetrated by the staff of the Royal Marsden which involved Tony Francis’s friend Peter Macguire (see post ‘Reports Of Death Were Greatly Exaggerated’). Daphne knew those colleagues of mine from Surrey who stole my work and used it to raise more funds to secure their own futures at the Institute of Cancer Research (see post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK’).

Daphne died in 1991 of cancer. Which doesn’t surprise me. Were there not such endemic research fraud in cancer research, the outcomes for people who develop cancer might well be very much better than they are.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap Daphne:

After Daphne The Wimmin’s Friend pegged out when her partners in crime the Top Docs found that they didn’t have a miracle cure after all – get your pink bras on and run a few more marathons ladies, CR UK needs a few more million to help YOU – the Daphne Jackson Trust was founded with a legacy, but I’m not sure where the legacy came from. The Trust is there to help Wimmin – although not wimmin who’ve blown the whistle on the Westminster Paedophile Ring or large scale research fraud obviously – and is based at the Physics Dept at the University of Surrey. The Patrons of the Daphne Jackson Trust are: Professor Dame Athene Donald,  Ms Vivienne Parry and Ms Maggie Philbin.

One of the Daphne Jackson Trustees is this blog’s old pal Prof Hilary Lappin-Scott. Hilary spent a brief time as the PVC for Research at Bangor University when I worked there. Hilary was the most atrocious bully, she was nakedly racist towards Welsh people and she was so rude that someone who approached Bangor University offering a partnership – one of the biggest investors in north west Wales that there is – walked away and had to be tempted back by a rather more sane member of staff. My own problems with Hilary reached a pinnacle when she refused to reimburse me my fieldwork expenses. I had done a great deal of fieldwork and the expenses ran into hundreds. Hilary refused to pay me. No reason, she just didn’t feel like it. I had no petrol to get to work and no money for groceries. A variety of friends bought petrol and groceries for me. Hilary departed from Bangor a few months later after the most enormous row when she made an allegiance with Prof Fergus Lowe and tried to close down five Depts. One of the lecturers from one Dept which Hilary announced that she was going to close committed suicide. No official details of Hilary’s departure were ever released but leaks from the organs of government let it be known that Hilary was dismissed and escorted off the premises by security. As Hilary left the premises, the IT staff were ordered to remove all references to her from the Bangor University website and to change all passwords and secure everything because of the fear that Hilary would carry out a revenge attack on Bangor.

When the e mail was circulated by the senior management informing everyone that Hilary no longer was employed by the University, loud cheering could be heard from offices and a celebratory e mail title ‘The Wicked Witch Is Dead’ was sent out by one of Hilary’s victims. Hilary was known at Bangor as Hilary Satan-Scott.

Everyone presumed that Hilary would never work again, but Brown said ‘ooh no, she’ll be a valuable resource for someone’. Indeed she has been. Hilary was subsequently given a job as PVC at Swansea University. Hilary was put in charge of the Business School, although she is a biologist. There were allegations of dreadful workplace bullying, staff resigned, there were allegations that jobs were given to friends of friends of Hilary’s and the students held a public protest on the grounds that what was going on was so damaging to the University’s reputation that their degrees were being devalued. An inquiry Chaired by a barrister followed.

Hilary recently won an award for Inspirational Wimmin and was photographed with Princess Anne.

The spiel on the Daphne Jackson Trust website tells us that Hilary is responsible for Equality and Diversity at Swansea University.

One look at Hilary’s fellow Trustees on the Daphne Jackson Trust website will reassure readers that Daphne has left behind a valuable legacy.

The Daphne Jackson Medal and Prize was established in 2016 and named in Jackson’s honour, are awarded by the Institute of Physics ‘for exceptional early career contributions to physics education and to widening participation within it’.

In 1988, when I went to listen to Daphne speak about the struggles of wimmin who find themselves surrounded by those in possession of testicles, Daphne related an anecdote to illustrate the difficulties of being a High Achieving Woman. Daphne explained that her elderly mother was now frail and in need of care, so Daphne went to discuss the problem with a Top Doctor. The Top Doctor, who was a Top Doctor in possession of testicles, told Daphne that she’d have to give up work and look after her mother. Daphne explained that she was Professor Daphne Jackson The First Female Professor Of Physics In Britain, only to find that the Top Doctor repeated his suggestion that Daphne should give up her job and look after her mother. The other Wimmin in the room – including those who stole my data and used it to advance themselves – all tut tutted and agreed that No Man would have been spoken to like that. Certainly not Keith Snell.

I didn’t like to mention to the Wimmin that no, the Top Doc probably would not have told a man to give up work and look after his elderly mother. A Top Doc would have told a man to pay someone else to look after his elderly mother. A female Top Doc would have said the same. Furthermore, there was at that time and still are some male carers. Because although there is a gender dimension to the problem in that it is usually women who are unpaid carers, the biggest problem is that there is NO SOCIAL CARE for those who need it. So if you are a man who hasn’t got a wife to ask/tell to look after the relative and you haven’t got any money, you too will be told by Top Docs to give up your job to become a carer. Daphne did not campaign for improved social care. Daphne did not campaign for funding for low income citizens to have access to social care. Daphne campaigned for the rights of well-qualified professional women to have successful careers. I don’t have a problem with that, but Daphne and her colleagues’ conduct towards me demonstrated the cause closest to their hearts.

When Ken Clarke was Health Secretary, as well as doing battle with Dr John Marks and the BMA, Ken did battle with Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor aka the Duke of Westminster, Carlo’s friend. Grosvenor was demanding that Thatcher’s Gov’t give him the Hyde Park Corner building which was the former St George’s Hospital Medical School, St George’s having relocated to Tooting. Grosvenor’s rationale was that centuries previously, his ancestor had donated the Hyde Park Corner site and now he wanted it back. At that time Grosvenor was the richest man in the UK. The Hyde Park Corner site was worth a bomb, it is prime Knightbridge real estate worth millions and Gerald wanted to add to his collection of vast estates and much of Belgravia. Ken Clarke didn’t explain in his autobiography how the problem was resolved, he simply stated that he wanted to sell the Duke the Hyde Park Corner site at its market value and reinvest the money into the dear old NHS. What actually happened was that the Gov’t allowed the Duke to purchase the Hyde Park Corner site for £6k. It is now the very expensive Lanesborough Hotel:

  • It’s incredible what you can pick up for £6k. After my career was ruined I took out my meagre funds from my own pension – I actually had one in those days – to live on when I was discharged from Springfield Hospital jobless and with no income (see post ‘Some Very Eminent Psychiatrists From London…’) and it was almost £6k. If Thatch and Ken Clarke had told me that the Lanesborough was on offer for that price at the time I could have just borrowed a bit more from Brown and bought it myself.
I cannot think why the richest man in the UK was given such a bargain by Thatch and Ken. It will not of course have had anything to do with the Duke being President of the City of Chester Conservative Constituency Association and the members of that Association knowing that the constituency MP, Sir Peter Morrison, was molesting children in care in north Wales, Chester and elsewhere, while Peter Morrison’s sister Dame Mary worked at Buck House as Woman-of-the-Bedchamber to Lilibet.
It was in the late 1980s that Alison Taylor wrote to Carlo and told him that children in care in north Wales were being abused. Carlo’s office replied, telling Alison that Carlo couldn’t get involved. Carlo was Chancellor of UCNW (Bangor University) at the time, which was log jammed with staff colluding with or concealing the paedophile gang that Dafydd et al were running. Dafydd himself still wielded influence in UCNW and his daughter Dwynwen was doing a PhD in the Psychology Dept. Dwynwen’s degree results were not considered good enough for her to have been offered a place under normal circumstances, but dear old Dafydd had a word with a few mates and Dwynwen was in.

Weekend Warriors | Busiestbodies's Blog

I have expressed my puzzlement previously on this blog as to why Thatcher appointed Sir Peter Morrison, a man who’s openly gossiped about activities with children put the Gov’t and national security as risk, to such crucial sensitive Gov’t positions. The Gov’t was depending upon the talents of Dafydd to prevent a major scandal, it was ludicrous. No rational person would have given Morrison the jobs that Thatcher did. Morrison’s family were massively influential in the Tory Party and his sister was a courtier in Buck House, but even so, it still makes no sense for Thatcher to have kept Morrison in the Gov’t. In 1988, when people from Ken Clarke’s part of the world were sufficiently interested in the fate of a company housing a sweat-shop in a building scheduled for demolition in Bridgwater to purchase that company, Peter Morrison was Minister of State for Energy with responsibility for oil (see post ‘These Sharks Are Crap As Well’). Thatcher’s Gov’t depended upon oil to fund it’s insane policies of destroying industry and raising unemployment.

I have received an e mail suggesting why so many risks were taken with regard to Morrison. It contained the following information:

Sally
You asked the question what had you missed ?
May I suggest the following hypothesis that Peter had been abused as a child by a Duke of Westminster, Robert perhaps.
His birth place Fonthill in Wiltshire has a historical link with the 2nd Marquis of Westminster. So he was someone’s childhood bitch, a VIP paedophile, which would explain the subsequent geography of his seat and his political appointments. It would also explain the business generating cash through sex trafficking.
So Westminster ( North West) to Westminster(central).
Regards

Robert Grosvenor was the 5th Duke of Westminster, the father of Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor. I have blogged about him in previous posts. It is not unlikely that Peter Morrison was molested as a child himself. He went to Eton and was of the generation of men who as boys were often brutalised so badly at school that it wreaked havoc with their psycho-sexual development and he was of course surrounded by older men who had been similarly brutalised. Previous posts have discussed who may have been involved in the selection of Morrison, a known paedophile, to contend the safe Tory seat of Chester in 1974, a city that was the centre of a huge paedophile/sex trafficking ring, operated by Dafydd et al. The Duke of Westminster’s family seat was just down the road. Boys from Bryn Estyn were taken to the Duke’s estate for ‘work experience’ and were refusing to return but wouldn’t explain why.

I discussed in an earlier post how someone who came under attack from Dafydd et al was ordered by a helpful community midwife to have the family dogs put down when his wife became pregnant on the grounds that they would constitute a ‘danger to the baby’. There was no evidence that the dogs would be any such thing, they were family pets and were used to being around the children that the family already had. The midwife insisted. The family were completely in the clutches of the Top Docs et al, were constantly being hectored and told that they didn’t know what they were doing, so eventually they rang the RSPCA and asked them to put the dogs to sleep.

I was told that a rude aggressive ‘RSPCA inspector’ arrived at the house who had no knowledge of how to put dogs to sleep. Instead of an injection into a vein on the leg, preceded by a sedative to keep the dog relaxed, the RSPCA man ‘stabbed the dogs to death through the heart with a massive needle’. Several members of the family confirmed that this was what had happened. The first two dogs died screaming in agony and struggled to get away, such that by the time that the third dog was ready for slaughter, the mother of the family was crying, the children were crying and the father intervened, said that this could not happen to the third dog as well and told the RSPCA man to leave. The RSPCA man told the family that this would teach them not to be ‘irresponsible owners’ in future. There was someone else at the scene of the crime. The midwife who had demanded that this should be done. She was paying a home visit when it all kicked off. Did she stop the slaughter? No. She left the house after the first murder, saying that she couldn’t bear the noise of the dog screaming.

When I heard about this awful scene, I just thought that the family must have had terrible luck with a rogue RSPCA man. This happened in 1992. Over the next few years I heard further stories about what was obviously the same RSPCA man. The stories had a running theme: vulnerable people who had asked for help with their pets, only to be met with aggression accompanied by a lecture on the crimes of Irresponsible Owners and downright cruelty to the animals. A new trend subsequently emerged. That of people who were either elderly and not coping very well or mental health patients ‘in the community’ who had been reported to the RSPCA for ‘cruelty’ having animals removed from their care in a blaze of media coverage which involved the naming and shaming of the Irresponsible Owners. The Irresponsible Owners hadn’t actually been cruel to the animals, but they had lived among much filth and mess, because no-one was supporting them ‘in the community’.

So many of these cases were happening that I began to take an interest, particularly as a lot of the cases were in north Wales. In every case, the Irresponsible Owners had not been coping but their plight had been ignored by the ‘community teams’. The ‘community teams’ had been going into the chaos and had not responded in any way. Not until someone reported that the pets were not being looked after or were simply living in chaos and filth. The RSPCA would then remove the pets, invite the press to photograph ‘this disgusting squalor’ and everyone could marvel at the Irresponsible Owners. No-one asked what the community workers had been doing watching these situations develop over months. No-one reflected that there was concern shown for pets living in filth but not seriously ill people.

While such cases were being highlighted, I knew of a number of people who were being horrifically cruel to their animals. These people were not in the care of the welfare services and no-one denounced them as Irresponsible Owners. A farmer on Anglesey was known to have chucked his sheepdog over a cliff when it became too old to work. He did not receive a visit from the RSPCA. There was a dog in Bethesda who was chained up outside in the garden visibly starving and drenched in the bad weather. No-one said a word. There were various other dogs who were being beaten and kicked in public and my landlady’s grandson told me of a mass outbreak of the torture of other people’s cats that was happening in Caernarfon. Not a word from the RSPCA.

On one occasion a labrador was removed from two middle aged brothers on Anglesey and featured on the Welsh TV news. The owners were named and shamed and received a good bollocking from the RSPCA. Their crime? Their labrador was fat. Labradors do get fat because they eat everything in sight and admittedly this one was enormous. Yet surely someone could have given the brothers advice on slimming their labrador down? The brothers were interviewed and were very obviously not cruel. No-one had even tried to advise them. The RSPCA then revelled in telling the TV news that not only was this lab fat, but it had an ‘untreated tumour’ on it’s neck and the poor lab ‘must be in agony’. The untreated tumour was filmed. It was exactly the same condition that a dog of mine had experienced years ago. The tumour in question was benign and painless. As the RSPCA quietly admitted a few days later, after the lab had been removed and the brothers denounced as cruel gits. The brothers did not get their lab back. Did the RSPCA rehome the lab? No. They did what the RSPCA do a lot of, they put the dog down. For being fat.

What have we come to when a dog is abducted and killed for being fat and the dog’s owners are denounced on a national news bulletin for owning a fat dog?

I realised that something particularly odd was happening when the RSPCA started coming after me. Repeatedly. For ‘cruelty’ to my dogs. The cruelty in question being my dogs sleeping in my car when I was at work. On the first occasion that the RSPCA contacted me, I explained that yes my dogs were in the car, but they were not young dogs, they were comfortable and with a bowl of water, I checked on them regularly and I took them out for walks at intervals as well. They were in the car because I didn’t want to leave them at home all day, it was better for them to be in the car where I could go and visit them and walk them. The RSPCA went away happy with the explanation. Then they came back again, once more with allegations that I was cruel. Then the RSPCA told me that other people had told them that I was cruel. Perhaps they were the same people who were leaving abusive notes stuck to my car, telling me that I was cruel. I invited the RSPCA to come and meet me and my dogs to reassure themselves that my dogs were OK. The RSPCA didn’t take up my offer. A few weeks later I received another call from the RSPCA. Someone had told them that I was cruel.

The RSPCA must have known my extension number by now they were ringing me so often. I was never told who was making the allegations that I was cruel. The last conversation that I had with the RSPCA was even more surreal than the others. The RSPCA man spoke to me as though I was 10 yrs old. He told me that he knew that dogs get stressed when they are in a confined space because he had done an experiment. He had dressed up as a dog, sat in a small space and after 15 mins had felt stressed. I realised that I was talking to an idiot so I simply asked what he recommended. He told me to buy a new car and that if there was one more complaint about me the RSPCA would prosecute me.

There nearly was another complaint about me as well. I went to visit another Enemy Of The Paedophiles when he was in the Hergest Unit. I had only been with him about five minutes, when the door of the room flew open and an Angel yelled at me ‘those are your dogs in the car and it’s cruel for them to be there. If you don’t leave, we’ll call the RSPCA. It’s not me what’s doing this, I’ve been told. I’m just the messenger so don’t you have a go at me yeh’. The Angel – no uniform, no ID badge, so I had no idea who she was – then slammed the door shut again and disappeared.

The Hergest Unit staff knew my dogs and they knew my car. Because when I had been a patient previously, they had called the police on the grounds that they wanted to remove my dogs – to the care of the RSPCA! – but the police refused to break into my car lest they got bitten. No-one asked me to go outside and let the police into my car and introduce them to the dogs. Who would not have bitten them anyway. I only found out what was happening when the Hergest whistleblower came and told me not to worry about my dogs because he’d look after them while I was in hospital.

The Hergest whistleblower was as good as his word. One day though he came in terribly upset and told me that he thought that one of my dogs was going to die, he was very ill. The dog had been rushed to the vet who told the Hergest whistleblower that the dog had been poisoned. The Hergest whistleblower couldn’t understand it, he was an organic gardener and lived in an isolated cottage in a valley, there was nothing to poison a dog.

Except probably for a vicious bastard of a member of a paedophile gang who knew that the Hergest whistleblower was looking after my dogs, who knew that my Golden Lab was notorious for his appetite and who could throw the poisoned meat into the garden of the isolated cottage without being visible to anyone.

My dog didn’t die. He was paralysed for a few days but he didn’t die. My dog’s brush with death happened at the time that the paedophiles’ friends had yet another go at imprisoning me on the basis of their perjury and when my father’s death was imminent. I was told that if father died I would have to attend his funeral handcuffed to an Angel and a police officer. The charges against me were later withdrawn. On the first day of the trial.

Paedophile gang: Had my dog died I do hope that you realise that I would never have turned on the Hergest whistleblower, which I suspect was part of the plan.

Although it was obvious to me that in north Wales, the paedophiles’ friends had discovered a whole new way of making life unbearable for the people whom they so scandalously abused and neglected ie. now that we’ve made them unemployable, told everyone that they are dangerous nutters so no-one will speak to them, let’s put the final part of our dastardly plan into action – have them declared as IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS and then remove their pets, the last thing on earth that they have left…, there seemed to be a problem across the whole of the UK with regard to the RSPCA mounting prosecutions against vulnerable people. It became so evident that people began raising concerns and leaving the RSPCA.

The enthusiasm for prosecuting vulnerable people often on the basis of very flimsy evidence culminated in a TV expose in which the finger was pointed at Gavin Grant, the CEO of the RSPCA, 2012-14. It was said that Gavin Grant was an ‘animal rights extremist’, that he wanted a whole new agenda for the RSPCA and a few people maintained that he was a vindictive git. When it was put to Gavin Grant on camera that some prosecutions had been ludicrous, such as one against an elderly lady for failing to take care of her budgie properly, Gavin snapped at the interviewer that ‘this poor old lady is a convicted animal abuser’. Well she was after Gavin’s inspector called at her house.

I don’t know what was driving Gavin Grant, but I very much doubt that he was an ‘animal rights extremist’. Because Gavin’s previous job had been as Chairman of PR firm Burson-Marsteller and many moons ago Gavin had been a fellow traveller of Dr Death! The Dr Death who was the research registrar for the lethal Top Doc at Tommy’s, William Sargant, who experimented upon and killed some of his patients (see post ‘Dr Death’). Gavin will know that Top Docs of Death’s generation also experimented en masse on animals. Dr Death was a psychiatrist and neurologist Gavin, they don’t just do rats, they do primates. Down at the Institute of Psychiatry – where Dafydd et al ‘trained’ – there have been generations of primates in cages with various horrible things done to their brains.

Primate Psychology Brain Animal Experimentation Picture

Ah, your life in their hands! The doctors and Angels they were wonderful!

Grant was brought up on a south London council estate but had moved from the estate by the time he was attending secondary school. His mother was a needleshop-worker and his father was a cellophane salesman. Grant was educated at Roan Grammar School for Boys, 1966–1973 and the University of Reading, 1973–77.

Gavin was a member of the Young Liberals and became the University of Reading’s youngest SU President.

After graduating, Gavin joined an anti-racism campaign group and reported for the Thatcher Gov’t on community relations. From 1987-88 he was Campaigns Director at the Council for the Protection of Rural England.  He worked as Director of Communications for the RSPCA from 1988-91. Which was when the RSPCA began to declare war on those who had spilt the paedophiles’ pints. In 1991, Gavin joined the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds as Public Affairs Director. Gavin worked as Corporate Communications Manager at The Body Shop International, 1993-99, where he campaigned against the use of animal testing for cosmetics.

Gavin: you knew that despite the marketing, ingredients used in The Body Shop products HAD been tested on animals. It wasn’t The Body Shop’s fault, at the time it was illegal to use ingredients that had not been tested on animals. What The Body Shop did do was to only use ingredients that had already been tested, they did not use new ingredients because they did not want to be responsible for yet more animal testing. Which is sound rationale, but that is not what you told people was it? You let millions of girls and young women believe that they were buying products which had not been tested on animals when those products had been tested on animals.

But then  Gavin told the world that vulnerable people being targeted by paedophile gangs were Animal Abusers.

When Gavin was Chairman of Burson-Marsteller, 2006-11, his corporate clients included Unilever and he helped establish its corporate social responsibility unit. That’s the Unilever which funded the massive expansion of the School of Psychology at Bangor University in the early 1990s, after Prof Fergus Lowe twisted the arms of so many who knew about Dafydd and the paedophile gang, including Philip Lever, aka Lord Leverhulme (see post ‘Feet In Chains’).

I know an Animal Abuser Gavin. I know quite a few, but I know one Animal Abuser who, like the brothers who were the proud owners of the enormous labrador on Anglesey, was actually a very nice person but who just didn’t know a few essentials. She was a lady who lived in Gwynedd and purchased a cat as a pet. It wasn’t just a moggy, it was quite an expensive cat and she loved it to bits. However because her house was located right next to a busy main road, she wouldn’t let the cat out lest he was run over. The poor bloody cat was going bonkers, he yowled and scratched and tried to escape all the time, he was desperate and furthermore he was bored out of its head in this expensive house with white carpets and no small creatures to catch. After about three months the poor sod gave up and just sat there with a glazed look in his eyes. The owner said ‘oh he’s given up now, he knows there’s no escape’. He certainly had and did, its called learned helplessness, Fergus Lowe could tell you all about it being a behavioural psychologist.

Who was the Animal Abuser in question? She was a mental health social worker, the former leader of the Dwyfor Community Mental Health Team. Her husband was the Head of a primary school on Anglesey. They were a very nice couple and she was one social worker who was not abusing clients. But she knew that many of the others were and she colluded with them. She also knew that the Hergest Unit was dangerous, she told me that she never referred patients there because of that. She admitted that she knew that the Arfon Community Mental Health Team were abusing patients and she knew that NHS staff had perjured themselves repeatedly in an attempt to have me imprisoned. We discussed it all. She is no longer living in Gwynedd. She is, I understand, in Australia. She and her husband, two Welsh speakers born and brought up in Gwynedd and who lived there all their lives decided that they were off to begin a new life in Australia, when it became clear that Operation Pallial would be re-opening the investigation into the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Rhian Angel and her husband joined the exodus from north Wales to the other side of the world, along with a few others who knew the identities of the guilty parties…

Gavin Grant stood unsuccessfully in the 1987 General Election as the Liberal Alliance candidate. He has been a lifelong member of the Liberal Party and its successor the Lib Dems and was its Chair of the Western Counties regional party in 2011.

Any West Country Lib Dems remember a man called Jeremy Thorpe?

Gavin Grant has advised successive Liberal Democrat leaders including Deputy PM Nick Clegg and in 2007 he was involved in Clegg’s campaign to become party leader. Grant was elected to Wiltshire Council in 2017. He lives in Wiltshire and rents a flat in Horsham, West Sussex.

Peter Morrison’s family seat is in Wiltshire. The family own vast estates in Wiltshire and have lived there for decades. Morrison’s brother Charles was the Tory MP for Devizes in Wiltshire, 1964-92. Morrison’s dad John Morrison aka Lord Margadale was MP for Salisbury, 1942-65. The Morrison family pretty much ran Wiltshire for years. They sat on the County Council, they held posts as Deputy Lieutenant and Lord Lieutenant of the county and they were hugely influential in the Tory Party. Peter Morrison was kept out of trouble for decades as a result of his family and their connections. Gavin Grant would never have dared to take them on, but he may well have lent a hand to a few of those who assisted them or were keeping schtum about Peter’s activities.

One thing that I do not believe about Gavin is that he is an ‘animal rights extremist’. To find out where Gavin’s heart truly lies, let’s take a brief look at the work of the company that he Chaired before becoming CEO of the RSPCA.

Burson-Marsteller is a global PR and communications firm headquartered in New York. Burson-Marsteller consists of 77 offices and 85 affiliate offices, together operating in 110 countries across six continents. The company was founded by Harold Burson and William Marsteller in 1953 and, by the early 1980s, had become one of the largest PR companies in the world. In 1979 it became a subsidiary of Young & Rubicam, which in turn is now owned by WPP Group PLC. In 2018, it merged with Cohn & Wolfe and was renamed Burson Cohn & Wolfe. The current CEO of Burson-Marsteller is Don Baer, former Communications Director for the Clinton administration, who joined the company in 2007.

The firm is primarily known for its crisis management services and political lobbying. It has won numerous awards from the PR industry over the years for its work in high-profile crisis management, including a 2002 extortion attempt against GlaxoSmithKline and a response described as the ‘gold standard’ for its crisis management of the 1982 Chicago Tylenol poisonings. Other high-profile crisis cases include the manufacturers of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station and Egypt following terrorist attacks on tourists in 1993. At times the company has also been the subject of protests and criticism for its use of smearing and doubt campaigns (to undermine concerns about passive smoking for Philip Morris in the 1990s and anti-Google smear campaigning for Facebook in 2011) and its work for regimes facing severe human rights criticisms (Argentina and Indonesia).

GSK and Philip Morris have been involved in animal research, some of it cruel. Ken Clarke has had business interests in the tobacco industry for years and he is a personal friend of a number of senior executives in that industry. He has close links with Philip Morris.

Gavin Grant would be the ideal man to employ to conduct aggressive smear campaigns against anyone who was witness to Dafydd’s wrongdoing, but an ‘animal rights extremist’? I don’t think so. Anyway, he’s been far too busy.

Now for a trip down memory lane to the early years of Tom King’s incumbency as the Tory MP for Bridgwater. King was elected in 1970, so during King’s first few years as an MP, Ted Heath was PM. It was under Thatcher that King’s career really took off, but then some of those who were not closely associated with the Thatcher project who had knowledge of events under Heath, particularly events that had been concealed, did find that their careers flourished under Thatcher. Thatcher herself paid a visit to Bridgwater, when she was Education Secretary in approx 1973. Thatch was the guest of honour at the Bridgwater Conservative Ladies Luncheon Club. She wowed them and I heard all about it…

Thatch might have waxed lyrical about the morality that was instilled into her by her Methodist upbringing above the grocers shop in Grantham, but her friendships with Jimmy Savile, Peter Morrison and George Thomas suggest that Thatch was in possession of some very mobile goalposts. I read an article recently in which a Tory argued that although it is now accepted that those three were abusing children on a substantial scale, he really did not believe that Thatcher knew about this. She definitely knew about Peter Morrison, she was told on a number of occasions, including by Barry Strevens a police bodyguard, that Morrison was holding sex parties with young boys. Thatch was also warned repeatedly that Jimmy Savile’s ‘private life’ made him unsuitable for the knighthood that Thatch was lobbying for him to have and that if ever he was given a knighthood, things could become very embarrassing if his ‘private life’ became public. Thatch’s response was to lobby even harder on Uncle Jim’s behalf.

Thatch might not have known about this, but some Tories in Somerset were having a high old time back in the early 1970s. There is a weird house in the Polden Hills near Cossington called Moon Cottage. Adults in Somerset always said the same thing when anyone drove past Moon Cottage – ‘that’s the house that Mandy Rice-Davies bought after the Profumo Affair’. I was told that Mandy Rice-Davies never actually lived at Moon Cottage but everyone knew that she had bought it. So what Mandy did there I do not know. I knew the man who later bought Moon Cottage and he definitely did live there. He was called Dan Lewis, he was married to a lady called Sarah and they must have acquired Moon Cottage in the late 1960s. They were involved with the Bridgwater Conservatives and were small business people in Bridgwater. Dan was the eldest son of another Dan Lewis, known as ‘old Dan Lewis’, who was a self-made man. Old Dan Lewis was a railwayman who had made a great deal of money by questionable means. Old Dan Lewis was spoken about by some in tones of disgust, because of his fondness for prostitutes, gambling and other associated pursuits. Young Dan had a brother, Richard, who was married to Rosemary. Richard and Rosemary were in the Bridgwater Conservatives as well.

Young Dan seemed to have quite a lot of misfortunes. No-one had a good word to say for him. Not because he ever did anything criminal and he didn’t have the reputation that his father did, but people were just generally rude about him, making allegations that he was incompetent and neurotic etc. I was far too young to ever draw any conclusions about Dan Lewis, but as an adult I wonder if he might have simply been adversely affected by having a father like Old Dan.

After young Dan moved into Moon Cottage he was repeatedly burgled. He actually lost a great deal of money and valuables as a result of those burglaries. I got so used to hearing about Dan Lewis being burgled that it didn’t strike me as at all odd. Dan Lewis got burgled, it was a fact of life. Dan Lewis was getting burgled at a time when getting burgled was rather more unusual than it is now. Particularly in Somerset. Moon Cottage was a bit spooky looking and there were trees next to it, but Moon Cottage was on the main road across the Poldens, between Bridgwater and Glastonbury, it shouldn’t have been that vulnerable to burglars. The burglars would have been visible to passing vehicles and surely the police should have taken a bit more interest in Dan being targeted in this manner. Dan’s marriage also didn’t last as long as people expected marriages to in the 1970s, Sarah left him but I have no idea of the circumstances. Dan died years ago when he was not that old. I think that he may have killed himself or died in unfortunate circumstances, I remember it being a rather sad untimely end to a difficult life.

At the same time as Dan was being burgled, there were rumours of excess among the Tories living in the Polden Hills. Excess in terms of orgies and swinging sessions. There were a few people in Somerset who had taken the Tories at face value, joined them and had been so shocked at what was going on that they quietly retreated from the scene but didn’t dare publicise what was happening. I don’t mind if Tories hold swingers parties if everyone is consenting adults, but in the light of what is now being revealed about the sexual tastes of some Tories of that generation, I am wondering if the swinging parties might have catered to even more specialised tastes.

The reason why I wondered what was going on was that it was alleged that someone was killed at one of the parties in the Poldens. Not a Satanic abuse inspired ritual killing of a child, but a good old fashioned murder of someone whom it was decided had to be disposed of. The allegations were that the victim was plied with drink until completely drunk and incapable, shoved in the swimming pool and left to drown. I have no idea why, people were so frightened after it got round that this had happened that there were scant details given.

These were members of your constituency party Lord King, do you know anything about it? I only ask because of what you and your associates did to me many years later.

In 1988 when businessmen in Ken Clarke’s part of the world became interested in my father’s employment prospects, Tom King was the Secretary of State for N Ireland. It was in 1988 when a group of young Irish people were jailed for a substantial term for plotting to kill Tom King. I followed the case at the time, there was barely any evidence that they had plotted to kill Tom King and the evidence against them reminded me very much of the sort of evidence that Dafydd produced against me. One of the young men jailed had a mother who was a well-known psychiatrist in either Eire or N Ireland. I can find no references to this case on any internet archive. What’s going on King? That case attracted massive publicity as a potential miscarriage of justice, why have all references to it disappeared?

As N Ireland Secretary, King will have been involved in concealing events at Kincora Boys’ Home.

Someone else who might well have known about events in the Polden Hills was Margaret Rees, the high profile Somerset County Councillor who lived next door to Bridgwater Arts Centre and was so outraged at the thought of young people attending music gigs at the Arts Centre that she gate-crashed one such event, in her Marks & Sparks dressing gown, accompanied by the police and shut the event down. Margaret Rees then used her position as a Councillor to stop all such events at the Arts Centre. These events were just young people attending rock gigs, it’s not as if they were drowning people in swimming pools.

Margaret Rees was married to a Top Doctor. Who was an alcoholic. Not a functioning one either, Dr Rees was completely bladdered on a routine basis and it was a real laugh because Margaret Rees could often be seen holding the old boy up to prevent him keeling over.

One of the contingent who was busy in the Bridgwater Tories during the years of excess in the Polden Hills had a celeb daughter. Her daughter was a dancer in the 1960s dance troupe The Young Generation and could be spotted strutting her stuff on prime time TV.

The Young Generation, dancer, Nigel Lythgoe, Lesley Judd, Dusty Springfield, Gene Kelly, Pauline McLeod

They look like Young Conservatives don’t they. The one in the middle looking heavenwards doing the ‘I’m having one hell of a time’ face is Lesley Judd, who found fame on ‘Blue Peter’ when Val had enough and left the show. It wasn’t the same after Val left.John Noakes' Blue Peter co-star VALERIE SINGLELTON pays a ...

Years later it was revealed that ‘Blue Peter’ was a bit of a shag fest. Val admitted to having an affair with Pete and at one point she had a secret abortion. That was one story that John Nettleton never told on ‘Blue Peter’, he just confined himself to the Life Of Mozart. Val has angrily denied a lesbian affair with Joan Armatrading.

After ‘Blue Peter’, Val became a Serious Presenter, rather than one who had to pretend that she was concerned with Petra and Patch. Val presented ‘Nationwide’ in the 1970s. Perhaps Val could tell me why Frank Bough was kicked out of the BBC after he admitted enjoying the company of prostitutes and taking cocaine yet Savile, Rolf and Stuart Hall remained fully protected when doing far worse. Was Frank threatening to blow the gaffe on them?

Another member of The Young Generation was Nigel Lythgoe, he’s one of the Young Conservatives pictured above with Lesley Judd. Nigel went into TV production and became Head of Entertainment and Comedy at LWT. It was Nigel who commissioned and produced ‘Blind Date’. Which starred Cilla. ‘Blind Date’ was the show which turned around LWT’s fortunes in the 1990s and made the company so profitable. Cilla was a good friend of Prof Geoffrey Chamberlain of St George’s Hospital Medical School. I worked for Chamberlain when dear old Cilla was the Famous Friend of St George’s. Chamberlain had, when he was younger, experimented upon and then killed a foetus of seven months gestation. At St George’s he was concealing the crimes of Dafydd and the gang in north Wales/Cheshire as well as a linked trafficking gang in south London (see post ‘Now Then…’).

Chamberlain lived in a huge house right next to the All England Tennis Club at Wimbledon. The All England Club of which the Duke of Kent was President. Chamberlain won’t have missed an opportunity to rub noses with him.

Nigel Lythgoe subsequently worked on ‘Popstars’, ‘Pop Idol’ and ‘American Idol’. When Nigel was a judge on ‘Popstars’, he became known as Nasty Nigel on account of his harsh comments regarding the hopefuls who appeared before him.

Nigel spent his youth and early career in Liverpool, when Dafydd’s gang were running the city and supplying underaged sex workers to VIPs and celebs…

Nigel’s wealth is estimated at $110 million.

What’s Left? The Politics of Social Justice

My post ‘Life In Cold Blood’ detailed the backgrounds and activities of some paedophiles’ friends who doubled up as lefties committed to social justice and democracy, including Red Ken’s Deputy in the GLC, Illtyd Harrington. I mentioned that Illtyd was originally Deputy to Andrew McIntosh, but a coup orchestrated by the hard left saw McIntosh ousted and Red Ken installed as Leader of the GLC. So did Andrew the Overthrown suffer as a result? It doesn’t seem as though he did, he ended up in the Lords which is more than Illtyd did, so someone found Andrew useful.

Andrew Robert McIntosh, Baron McIntosh of Haringey (30 April 1933 – 27 August 2010) was a Labour Party politician and the last elected Principal of the Working Men’s College, 1988-97.

The WMC was founded in 1854 and established by Christian Socialists to provide a liberal education for artisans. The founding of the College was partially a response to concerns about the revolutionary potential of the Chartist Movement and its early protagonists were also closely associated with the Co-operative Movement and labour organisations. The WMC is located in St Pancras – within the Borough of Camden – and numbered among its teachers the Rolls Royce-driving crooked former Conservative MP for Taunton, Edward du Cann.

Andrew McIntosh was educated at Haberdasher Aske’s Hampstead School, the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe and then Jesus College, Oxford and Ohio State University.

McIntosh served as a Councillor in the London Borough of Haringey (1964–68) and represented Tottenham on the GLC (1973–83). When Labour won control of the GLC in 1981, McIntosh was leader of the Labour Group. McIntosh was a centrist who narrowly beat left-winger Red Ken for the leadership. However, the day after Labour won a small majority, McIntosh was ousted and Livingstone was voted leader of the Labour Group and of the GLC in his place.

By the mid-1980s, Dafydd and the paedophile gang had direct links to Haringey Social Services, so presumably McIntosh would have known about that, as well as about the sorry state of Haringey Social Services, which simply did not function for many years. There was scandal after scandal and then an enormous eruption in 2000 when Victoria Climbie died in the care of Haringey. A Public Inquiry was held and there was a great deal of learning lessons and never againing, then in 2007 the death of Baby P (Peter Connelly) demonstrated that nothing at all had changed in that Borough.

Tony Smythe was involved with Haringey MIND. Smythe had previously spent a number of years as CEO of National MIND when MIND had links to paedophiles rights groups and was of course also concealing the crimes of Dafydd et al. Smythe’s’s cultural interests, his stance as an anarchist and his activism brought him into contact with some people doing some questionable things including fighting for paedophiles’ rights (see post ‘MIND Are Out For Mental Health – Never For Themselves Of Course…’).

Jeremy Corbyn formerly sat on an NHS Authority which covered Islington, Bloomsbury and Haringey.

Andrew McIntosh was given a peerage in 1983 and he served as a Whip and a culture spokesman in the Lords. He was appointed a Privy Councillor in 2002.

McIntosh was the UK’s Minister for the Media and Heritage at the Dept for Culture, Media and Sport, 2003-05, under Secretary of State Tessa Jowell, the paedophiles’ friend (see posts ‘Tower Hamlets, Paul Boateng and Tessa Jowell’ and ‘Baroness Tessa Jowell – A Tribute’). His responsibilities included broadcasting and press regulation, heritage and architecture, libraries and gambling regulation. McIntosh was also spokesman in the House of Lords for HM Treasury, 1997-05, when the Chancellor of the Exchequer was Gordon Brown.

In Sept 2005, McIntosh became a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe sitting as Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Culture, Science and Education from Jan 2010 and Chairman of its Sub-Committee on the Media from 2008-09. Following the passing of a resolution on ‘Threats to the lives and freedom of expression of journalists’ on 27 Jan 2007, the Council of Europe appointed McIntosh its rapporteur on media freedom.

McIntosh became an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society, a Distinguished Supporter of the British Humanist Association and Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group. He was Chairman of the Fabian Society, 1985-86 and Captain, Yeoman of the Guard, 1997-03.

McIntosh was married to academic and TV executive Naomi Sargant. Sargant was Professor of Applied Social Research at the Open University and then Channel 4’s Senior Commissioning Editor for education. Naomi was the daughter of Tom Sargant, a businessman and politician who became the first Secretary of the campaigning organisation JUSTICE, with which a great many paedophiles’ friends have been and are linked.

Naomi was educated at Friends’ School, Saffron Walden, Essex and Bedford College, London. After graduating, Naomi trained as a market researcher, joining Social Surveys Ltd in 1955 and remaining there until 1967, when she became senior lecturer at Enfield College of Technology. Naomi moved to the Open University in 1970 when she was appointed as senior lecturer in research methods. She was PVC for Student Affairs, 1974-78, then Professor of Applied Social Research until 1981. Naomi’s time at the OU overlapped with that of Professor Stuart Hall, who was involved in trying to damage Brown’s career when Brown was young. Hall’s friends and colleagues knew about the organised abuse and sexual exploitation of children and young people and it would have been difficult for Stuart Hall not to have known about it as well. See post ‘Life In Cold Blood’.

In 1981, Naomi was appointed to the newly established Channel 4, under C4’s first Chief Executive Jeremy Isaacs.

Isaacs stated that ‘Naomi’s political skills enabled her to deal confidently with like-minded spirits at the IBA and in education. The programmes she commissioned did not have to be part of curricular structures; she was free to add to what other broadcasters offered, catering to the viewers who might be unemployed, disabled or retired’.

C4’s output at the time could hardly be described as catering to many of those who were ‘unemployed, disabled or retired’. There was row after row regarding C4’s eccentric output, one of the biggest rows being about C4 screening Derek Jarman’s film ‘Jubilee’, which featured the rebel Toyah Wilcox from Solihull making hissing noises. Dafydd’s mate Professor Robert Bluglass lived in Solihull, perhaps that where Toyah learned to hiss.

_Black_Acrylic: Derek Jarman - Jubilee

Toyah excelled at hissing to such an extent that in 2002 she led the campaign against the housing of asylum seekers near to where she lived in Worcestershire.

It was C4 who screened ‘The Tube’, giving Paula Yates her big break. Paula came from Colwyn Bay, spent part of her life in north Wales and went to the primary school in Rowen. Lord Wyn Roberts lived in Rowen throughout the years when he loyally colluded with the crimes of Dafydd et al.

  • PAULA YATES TATTOOS -TATTOO PICS PHOTOS PICTURES OF HER ...
  • Paula’s last years were incredibly difficult and involved her being in the clutches of Top Doctors who did not seem to be doing her much good. Paula was found dead from an overdose of heroin in Sept 2000. Paula’s friends did not believe that she had killed herself. Paula’s life had taken a turn for the worse in Nov 1997, when her partner Michael Hutchence was found hanging dead. Paula maintained that he had not, as the rest of the world claimed, committed suicide. In April 2014 Paula’s daughter Peaches was found dead from a heroin overdose. Peaches was thought to have given up heroin some time previously. For further details regarding the unfortunate deaths of Paula, Michael Hutchence and Peaches, see post ‘The International Language Of Screaming’.

St Bob’s family are being wiped out at a rate that nearly equals that of the unfortunate Ormsby-Gores, some of whom knew about the Westminster Paedophile Ring (see post ’95 Glorious Years!’).

Paedophiles’ friends: the original sinners – the Peter Morrisons, the St John Stevases, the Grevilles, the Cyril Smiths, the Thorpes – are now all dead. What is your problem? It’s not as if the witnesses could have them jailed anymore is it? Ah – just remembered. There were all the ageing celebs and rock stars who are still alive to whom Dafydd et al supplied kids. And all those Top Docs, lawyers, judges and politicians who built their careers upon keeping quiet about it…

Cherie Booth being sworn in as a QC in April 1995. In April 1995, Nicola Davies QC was reviewing the paperwork of the North Wales Police relating to the abuse of children in care in order to decide whether a public inquiry was warranted. The paperwork from 1989 onward was all missing. By April 1995, Sir Ronnie Waterhouse had altered his retirement plans, which was most convenient when he was subsequently appointed to Chair the Public Inquiry which Nicola Davies QC concluded in Dec 1995 would not be in the public interest. Ronnie Waterhouse had previously worked with Derry Irvine and Derry’s two juniors, Tony Blair and Cherie Booth.

Jeremy Isaacs was an experienced journo who would have known about the Westminster Paedophile Ring and its branch in north Wales. Isaacs joined Granada Television in Manchester as a producer in 1958 and was involved in creating or supervising series such as ‘World In Action’ and ‘What The Papers Say’. He worked for the BBC’s ‘Panorama’ in the 1960s. Elwyn Parry Jones, originally from Llangollen, was Deputy Editor of Panorama, 1977-85. Parry Jones returned to live in north Wales in the late 1980s. He lived in Trevor, a village just down the road from Bryn Estyn and Bryn Alyn. When Parry Jones returned to north Wales, he spent his time making films for S4C, the Welsh language arm of C4. Other BBC big wigs from north Wales included Huw Wheldon and Angus McDermid (see post ‘The Turn Of The Screw’). Isaacs was the overall producer for the ‘World At War’ (1973–74) for Thames Television and was Director of Programmes for Thames between 1974-78. Later, he produced ‘Ireland: A Television History’ (1981) for the BBC and co-produced the TV series ‘Cold War’ (1998). Isaacs was President of the Royal Television Society, 1997-2000. The RTS which employed a child molester and unlawfully sacked a witness to the crimes in north Wales when she wanted to make a film about it (see post ‘The Turn Of The Screw’).

While the unemployed, disabled and retired watched ‘Bob’s Full House’ and ‘Blankety Blank’, Naomi Sargant listed ‘topics for action’ including arts, history, science, the environment and such ‘basic skills’ as literacy and numeracy, health and the family. Naomi catered for ‘leisure interests’, including wine – now there’s the way to an unemployed, disabled person’s heart, fine wines – and signed up Jancis Robinson for her TV debut. ‘Chips Comic’ was for children with disabilities. That became as well-known as Val, John and Pete and Petra and Patch didn’t it. Another of Naomi’s creations for C4 was ‘Quilts in Women’s Lives’.

Obviously the talents of someone who dreamed up ‘Quilts in Women’s Lives’ were not missed by the wider world and Naomi held numerous public appointments. They included: Chairman of the National Gas Consumer Council (1977-80); President of the National Society for Clean Air (1981-83); Pro Chancellor of the University of East London (1992-94). Inevitably Naomi had a finger in the NHS pie (or should that be PIE?) – she was Chairman of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, 1997-2000.

Amidst all the smiley face emojis and camera shots of Angels holding people’s hands, GOSH has been party to a few terrible things. Audrey Callaghan, who colluded with the abuse and neglect of children and vulnerable people when she sat on the London County Council and then on the GLC in the late 1950s/60s, was Chair of Governors for GOSH, 1969-82 and Chair of the Hospital’s Special Trustees until 1990. Audrey was a fundraiser for GOSH for 30 years and for 15 years – until 1999 – she was a Trustee of the Wishing Well Appeal. Audrey was a personal friend of crooked lawyer Leo Abse, who was a good mate of the child molester George Thomas and ensured that Thomas was extracted from trouble every time that someone dared complain about him. It was Jim Callaghan who, in his capacity as Home Secretary, allowed Leo Abse to personally manipulate and threaten people into allowing the paedophiles’ friends to rewrite the law on children in care, which resulted in the Children Act 1975. That was the Act which saw kids in care transported en masse into the arms of John Allen’s gang in north Wales. See post ‘Cry The Beloved Country’.

Leo Abse’s plan would never have come to fruition had a helpful MP who personally knew some of Dafydd’s associates not have been happy to introduce the Private Member’s Bill needed:

Official portrait of Lord Owen crop 2.jpg

GOSH were involved with the neglect and negligence which led to the death of Baby P and more recently were at the centre of the scrap over the care and treatment of baby Charlie Gard.

Naomi Sargant served on Haringey Borough Council and was Chairman of the Children’s Committee, 1964-68.

Naomi was also an executive member of the National Institute for Adult Continuing Education. She was made an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Art (1988) and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (1991). In 1996, Naomi was inducted into the Royal Television Society’s Hall of Lame.

Jeremy Isaacs’s obituary of Naomi commented that she was ‘a socialist in the fine line of RH Tawney, Michael Young and Peter Townsend’. It was Michael Young’s champagne socialism and hypocrisy which spawned the dreadful Toby Young, who’s entire life of right wing offensiveness seems to have resulted from his seething anger at his dad’s idiocy. Peter Townsend kept close company with the paedophiles’ friends as well.

Isaac’s tells us that ‘serving others’, Naomi ‘bent her mind to doing good’. A great many people suffered as a result of Naomi serving others and doing so much good.

Jane Collins, Chief Executive, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, added to Naomi’s obituary:

‘Sargant made many important contributions to GOSH in her three years as Chair of the Trust Board. Ahead of the times, she was particularly concerned about involving our patients and their families in developing our services so they can best meet their needs’.

Ah, so that was why there was that enormous rift last year between GOSH and the family of Charlie Gard.

Jane Collins remembered that Naomi’s ‘perspective as Chair was particularly helpful when the interim report of Sir Ian Kennedy’s Inquiry into children’s heart surgery at the Bristol Royal Infirmary was published in May 2000. We had been somewhat complacent in thinking we already worked in partnership with families. Naomi and this Report reminded us that the perceptions of children and families might be very different and we needed to really listen to what they were saying’.

Kennedy’s Report resulted from the Inquiry which followed allegations in the late 1990s that paediatric surgeons at Bristol were operating way beyond their competence and that children had died as a result. The matter of just how competent or otherwise the Bristol surgeons were was never really settled because the opinions of their peers who reviewed them could not be taken to be fair either (see post ‘More Alan Bennett’). The whole field had been corrupted by research fraud, cheating and dishonesty for years (see post ‘Interesting Facts’).

Naomi’s ‘other major contribution was to increase awareness and ensure action was taken to address equality and diversity issues. She was particularly concerned that our workforce did not reflect the ethnic make-up of our patients. This was most marked in nursing: it reflected in no way on the quality of the staff, but as a result we actively worked with the Nursing School at South Bank University to encourage recruitment from ethnic minorities into children’s nursing, with demonstrable success’.

Entrenched racism is an enduring feature of the NHS – I have witnessed it in every NHS setting in which I have ever worked or been treated. They don’t like darkies and they don’t like them any more today than they did when the Windrush generation arrived. In Bradford, a solution to the problem of the racist intimidation to which one nursing tutor was subjected – among other things, she found a picture of a monkey attached to her door – was to give her a Chair rather than risk a tribunal and the attendant bad publicity. The Angel involved had no academic record, so people not in the know wondered why there was a Professor at Bradford who had no academic background. Another NHS gesture in the direction of diversity and equality was the promotion of Angel Paula Vasco-Knight to high office, namely as the CEO of an NHS Trust in Devon. Vasco-Knight subsequently made history by collapsing in the dock when she escaped a prison sentence for her misconduct and crimes when she ran the Trust (see post ‘NHS Chief Executive Collapses In Court After Being Spared Jail’).

  • Strange but true

This is what happens when Angels are given PhDs on the basis of weak theses including much misunderstood sociology and are then promoted on the basis that they are ‘experts’. Angels: one thing that really pissed me off was your belief that you were experts in biographical narrative analysis after you had attended a one day ‘masterclass’. You were not and writing a PhD thesis which is no more than one huge self-indulgent ‘Dear Diary’ did not alter that.

The day after I wrote ‘Life In Cold Blood’ Ed Miliband gratuitously popped up on Radio 4 expressing his outrage about something. It may have been a complete coincidence that a number of Ed Miliband’s dad’s friends featured in that post, as they have in a few other recent posts. I haven’t blogged much about Ed’s dad himself though, so here we go Ed.

Ralph Miliband’s parents were among the Polish Jews who migrated to Brussels after WWI. Ralph was born in Brussels in 1924. He grew up in the working class community of Saint-Gilles and in 1939, aged 15, he became a member of Hashomer Hatzair (‘Young Guard), a socialist-Zionist youth group. In May 1940, the armies of Nazi Germany invaded Belgium and the Miliband family fled the country, Ralph and his father Sam escaping first and subsequently arriving in Britain in May 1940.

In London, Ralph and his father gained work in the Chiswick area removing furniture from houses bombed in the Blitz and, after six weeks, were able to send news to their mother and sister that they were in London. Ralph’s sister and his mother managed to escape when the Jews of Belgium were being rounded up by the Nazis. Ralph’s sister and mother were hidden on a farm by a French family until after the end of the war, when they were reunited with Sam and Ralph in Britain. Several of Ralph Miliband’s relatives and his best friend were killed in the Holocaust.

Ralph gained a place at Acton Technical College (now Brunel University) with the help of the League of Nations Commission for Refugees in Jan 1941. After completing his course, Ralph gained the help of the Belgian Gov’t in exile to study at the LSE, which because of the constant bombing of London by the Luftwaffe was evacuated to the premises of Peterhouse, Cambridge. Harold Laski was a dominant figure in the LSE at this time. Miliband studied under Laski, and was considerably influenced by him politically.

Harold Laski was the Chairman of the Labour Party, 1945–1946 and a Professor at the LSE, 1926-50. In 1936, Laski formed the Left Book Club, assisted by John Strachey. John Strachey was close friends with Lord Bob Boothby, the bisexual swinging Tory politician, who was mates with various dodgy people, including the Krays (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’). Harold Macmillan’s wife Dorothy had an affair with Bob Boothby. John’s Strachey’s sister was Amabel, who married Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the Ango-Welsh landowner who rented out the cottages on his estate in north Wales to the Welsh Bloomsbury set, as described in my post ‘The Village’. Clough’s guests – and no doubt Clough and Amabel as well – knew about Gwynne the lobotomist, Dafydd and their little ways of banging up inconvenient people for life. Clough was mates with a huge variety of people, including many of the gentry in north Wales who were propping Gwynne and Dafydd’s regime up. At least one young woman who found herself with a pregnancy which was inconvenient to the father of the baby – one of the radicals who was hanging out at Croesor with Clough’s mates – was banged up in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh in the early 1960s, only emerging into obscurity decades later when chunks of Denbigh began closing, when she was quite an elderly lady. She was ‘rehoused’ a safe distance from Croseor, lest anyone might be reminded of what they did.

Amabel Williams-Ellis, née Strachey, was a writer and is now best known for editing multitudinous volumes of fairy tales, folk legends and science fiction.

UnknownClough and Amabel outside their home, Plas Brondanw.

Clough was also mates with Bertrand Russell, who lived nearby at Penrhyndeudraeth. Bertrand had his cross to bear, namely members of his immediate family who were insane and needed incarcerating in asylums. Bertrand found a few helpful Top Docs, but was seriously miffed when he met opposition from one Top Doc – presumably not a Top Doc in north Wales – who dared tell Russell that his adult son did not need locking up. Russell’s evidence that his son was nuts included his son’s paranoid ideas that Russell was a nasty piece of work who was shagging his wife. It later became known that Russell was shagging his son’s wife. See post ‘So Who Was Angry About What?’.

As with Jean-Paul Sartre, it was often marvelled that women were magnetically attracted to Bertrand Russell, because he was small and shrivelled with rotten teeth. One of the local north Wales newspapers in the late 1980s ran a ‘profile’ of Dafydd, in which they actually commented that he was known to be ‘attractive to women’. The journo concerned had clearly not interviewed the targets of Dafydd’s attentions, it definitely was not that they were attracted to Dafydd… That profile was published while I was a patient on the psych ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd after making a serious complaint about Dafydd. Two male Angels read it in front of me and rolled around laughing because the photographer had even, as the Angels commented, ‘captured the dandruff’. Alison Taylor, a Gwynedd social worker, had by then raised concerns with Gwynedd County Council, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Newton and Carlo that children in care were being abused on a huge scale in north Wales.

In Nov 1987 Alison had been dismissed from her job by Gwynedd County Council.

People continued to joke about all these women who were tripping over themselves to shag Dafydd.

Dr Dafydd Alun Jones:

  • Bertrand Russell - Non smettete mai

For much of her childhood, Russell’s granddaughter Lucy lived with him at Penrhyndeudraeth, what with Lucy’s dad being bonkers and not fit to look after her and for some reason her mum wasn’t either. Poor old Russell had the pain of seeing Lucy go mad as well – paranoid schizophrenia, there was a lot of it about – not long after Lucy complained about Russell’s conduct towards her and then left home and found herself a boyfriend. Lucy burnt herself to death – well she was found burning to death, it was assumed that she had begun the fire – when she was 26 yrs old in April 1975. According to Top Docs, Lucy did this because she had paranoid schizophrenia, but according to Russell, it was a peace protest. Lucy’s mates maintained that she had had a really hard time.

Dafydd, do you happen to know any of the people involved in all of this perchance?

There is a son of an aristocratic family in north Wales who did not inherit because he was deemed to be mentally incompetent. When I found out about this poor sod and I told Brown, Brown responded by saying ‘now there’s a job for DA Jones’. Yes, I’m fairly sure that if we took a look at the documentation, Dafydd’s signature would be there.

‘You do realise that you’re suffering from manic-depressive insanity?’

I realised that you were a mad old bugger who was trying to get your leg over Dafydd.

  • Strange but true

To paraphrase Sybil Fawlty, did a brillianteened old stick insect like Dafydd ever really think that I would be interested?

Bertrand Russell’s son Conrad was a Lib Dem peer who was an historian who worked at Bedford College (see post ‘So Who Was Angry About What?’), the alma mater of Naomi Sargant.

Evelyn John St Loe Strachey (21 October 1901 – 15 July 1963) was born in Guildford, Surrey on 21 October 1901, the youngest of three sons of John St Loe Strachey, Editor of ‘The Spectator’. John Strachey was educated at Eton and then Magdalen College. In 1929 he was elected as the Labour MP for Birmingham Aston. Strachey became PPS to Oswald Mosley, who was then a Labour MP and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in Ramsay MacDonald’s Gov’t. In May 1930 Mosley and Strachey resigned over the Gov’ts unemployment policies. In Feb 1931 Strachey supported Mosley in founding the New Party, but Strachey resigned in July 1931 when Mosley rejected socialism and close links with the USSR. Mosley subsequently turned to fascism. Strachey lost his seat in 1931 and was a communist sympathiser for the rest of the 1930s, before breaking with the Communist Party in 1940.

During WWII Strachey served in the RAF. He was once again elected to Parliament as a Labour MP – for Dundee – in 1945, holding office under Clement Attlee as Minister of Food and as Secretary of State for War. Strachey became a Privy Councillor in 1946. Strachey continued to be a Labour MP – for Dundee West from 1950 – generally as a supporter of the right wing, until his death in 1963.

Ralph Miliband volunteered to be sent to Belgium to assist the resistance movement, but as a Polish national he was not allowed to join until the Polish authorities gave consent. He asked Harold Laski for help in joining the services and shortly afterwards A.V. Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty, wrote advising Ralph to ‘go and see a vice-admiral at the Admiralty, who would fix it up’. Miliband joined the Royal Navy in June 1943 and served for three years in the Belgian Section of the Royal Navy.

Miliband served on several warships as a German speaking radio intelligence officer in the Mediterranean, tasked with intercepting German radio communications. In June 1944 Miliband took part in supporting the Normandy landings and saw further action at the Toulon landings.

A.V. Alexander was from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset and early in his career worked for Somerset County Council’s Local Education Authority. He was raised as an Anglican but converted to the Baptist movement. Alexander joined the Weston Co-operative Society and became Treasurer of the local Young Liberal Association and the local Trades and Labour Council. He was then elected to the Board of the Weston Co-op Society.

During WWI Alexander served with the Artists Rifles. He trained in London and studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, before earning his commission. His health suffered during training and he never saw active service, instead working as a posting officer and then an education officer. Alexander was demobbed in late 1919 and within a year of returning home, he became Vice-President of the Weston Co-op Society and Secretary of the Somerset branch of NALGO.

Alexander was Parliamentary Secretary to the Co-operative Union, 1920-46. He was elected as the Co-operative Party’s MP for Hillsborough in 1922 and was re-elected in 1923, 1924 and 1929. Alexander continued to represent Sheffield, with one break, until 1950.

In early 1929, Alexander became a member of the Cabinet in the Labour Gov’t. Alexander was First Sea Lord, 1929-31, 1940-45 and 1945-46. He was Minister of Defence, 1946-50. A.V. Alexander was a good friend of Churchill’s and was the leader of the Labour Party in the Lords, 1955-64. In the Lords, Alexander supported Tony Benn’s campaign to renounce his peerage.

A.V. Alexander will have known many of the people who featured in my posts ‘The Defence Of The Realm’ and ‘In Memoriam – Lord Carrington’, including Sir Alec Bingley and Lord Louis Mountbatten. Alec Bingley’s wife and son, Lady Juliet and William Bingley, spent decades concealing the criminality of Dafydd and others in their positions at MIND and the Mental Health Act Commission. Alec Bingley will have known the truth behind the gay sex and espionage scandal involving John Vassall in the Admiralty (see previous posts), as will have Mountbatten. Mountbatten has been named as one of those who was involved with organised abuse at the Kincora Boys’ Home.

After WWII, Miliband resumed his studies at the LSE and graduated in 1947. He began a PhD but did not complete until 1956. Miliband undertook a period of research at the LSE funded by a Leverhulme scholarship. The Leverhulme Trust is the charitable endeavour of the Lever family of Unilever fame. It was Unilever who funded Prof Fergus Lowe’s empire at UCNW in the early 1990s. Fungus secured that grant substantially by holding Unilever over a barrel with regard to Fungus’s knowledge of the wrongdoing of Dafydd and the trafficking gang. One branch of Dafydd’s empire was in Liverpool and Philip Lever aka Lord Leverhulme was Chancellor of Liverpool University, 1980-93 (see post ‘Heart Of Darkness’). Dafydd trained at Liverpool University and there were scores of Dafydd’s associates working there when Fungus bagged that Unilever grant, including Professor Robert Owen, who had concealed Dafydd’s crimes in 1988-89 (see post ‘Feet In Chains’).

Miliband then taught at the Roosevelt College (now Roosevelt University) in Chicago. In 1949 he returned to the LSE as an Assistant Lecturer.

Miliband joined the Labour Party in 1951. He joined the New Left, alongside E.P. Thompson and Eric Hobsbawm, with whom Miliband was close friends. E.P. Thompson and Eric Hobsbawm both rented cottages from Sir Clough Williams-Ellis and spent their leisure time at Croesor in north Wales. They knew about the activities of Dafydd and Gwynne et al.

In 1964, Miliband set up the ‘Socialist Register’ with John Saville, who was also part of the New Left. John Saville also studied at the LSE, where he joined the Communist Party of Great Britain. Thompson and Hobsbawm were also members of the CPGB, but Saville and Thompson left as a result of the Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956. This caused a major bust-up between Thompson and Hobsbawm, because Hobsbawm remained a member of the CPGB.

Saville was also a member of the Communist Party Historians’ Group, along with Hobsbawm and Thompson.  John Saville was an academic at Hull University in Yorkshire for decades and was a member of the Hull Communist Party and its associated organisations.

Khrushchev’s denunciation of Stalin in 1956, or, more exactly, the failure of the British CP leadership to recognise its significance, transformed the Communist Party Historians’ Group from loyalists into vocal critics. Saville broke his affiliation with the Communist Party Historians Group and emerged as one of the founders of the ‘New Reasoner’, in partnership with E.P. Thompson.

I don’t mind if folk want to leave the People’s Front of Judea and join the Judean People’s Front instead, but while Clough’s mates busied themselves with this and continued the wrangling when they were staying at Croesor, Gwynne and Dafydd were causing havoc.

John Saville’s acquaintances and co-thinkers also included Stuart Hall, Philip Larkin, Doris Lessing and Raphael Samuel. Harry Newton, a left-wing student, had passed himself off as a family friend of Saville. His true identity, as an MI5 agent planted at Saville’s home in Hull, was later uncovered.

Philip Larkin was famously the Librarian at Hull University for years and acquired a following by writing things like ‘They fuck you up your mum and dad’ and ‘Sexual intercourse began/In nineteen sixty-three/(which was rather late for me) -Between the end of the “Chatterley” ban/
And the Beatles’ first LP.’

Larkin had an enthusiastic sado-masochistic relationship with literature scholar Monica Jones as well as with a few other people. Since Larkin’s death his reputation has taken quite a serious fall as a result of allegations of racism, misogyny and his major obsession with porn. Quite a lot was known for years about Larkin’s less attractive characteristics including his bothering of students and other young women, but no-one mentioned it because he was famous.

Before Larkin worked at Hull, from 1946-50 he was Assistant Librarian at Leicester University. Monica also worked at Leicester University. A long-standing paedophile ring operated in Leicester with links to Dafydd and the gang in north Wales, which was concealed by pretty much all sections of society in Leicester, as well as by numerous people working at Leicester University (see post ‘Life In Cold Blood’). There was also of course organised abuse of children and young people in Yorkshire, involving Jimmy Savile and others.

When Doris Lessing was in middle-age, she took in a teenager whom her son knew from school. The teenager had been thrown out of her home – not the teenager’s fault, her family were hugely dysfunctional and she was being abused by them – and her friend, Doris Lessing’s son, told his mum. Doris invited the girl to move in with them. The teenager was Jenny Diski, who later became a well-known writer herself. Jenny Diski experienced some dreadful things when she was young, including some truly bizarre events at the hands of Top Doctors. It seemed that no-one knew what to do with Jenny’s parents, so Jenny was constructed as the problem and was handed over to a psychiatric unit, where as a teenager she resided with much older seriously distressed people. Then she crashed out at Doris Lessing’s place. Jenny Diski wrote about her time living with the Lessings and although Diski appreciated that Lessing was sympathetic and took her in, Lessing seemed to have been remarkably unconcerned at the dreadful things that the adults around Jenny were doing to her. Lessing prioritised something that the sex trafficking social workers of north Wales all prided themselves on doing for their ‘clients’ – she dragged Jenny along to a Top Doctor to be fitted up with contraception. So if Jenny was going to be shagged by a load of worthless people, at least no-one would have to worry about a pregnancy.

Raphael Samuel worked at Ruskin College for many years from 1962. In the mid-1960s, Matt Arnold, who later became Head of Bryn Estyn, taught at Ruskin and one of his pupils was Peter Howarth, who was given a job at Bryn Estyn by Arnold months after Arnold was appointed as Head. When Arnold and Howarth were involved with Ruskin, they were working at Axwell Park Approved School in Gateshead, where children had been abused. This was concealed by Ernest Armstrong, who used his links to the Education Secretary when Armstrong Chaired the Education Committee of Sunderland Borough Council to keep a lid on it (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III). Armstrong ended up as the Labour MP for North West Durham, 1964-87 and his seat was succeeded by his daughter Hilary. Ernest and Hilary were good mates of Blair. John Prescott was a student at Ruskin (as were many high profile people in the Labour Party and trade union movement) – and a leading light in the Ruskin Students’ Union – when Howarth and Arnold were there (see post ‘A Study In Tyranny’). Prezza came from north Wales and was Labour MP for Hull East, 1970-2010.

Peter Howarth was one of the few people who went to prison as a result of the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal. Matt Arnold died from an ‘unidentified blood disease’ four days before Howarth’s trial began. Howarth died in Wakefield Prison in April 1997, just after the Waterhouse Inquiry began to hear evidence from witnesses. Ronnie Waterhouse opened the Inquiry in January 1997 but in mid-March, suddenly decided that he needed a holiday. He suspended the Inquiry for a short while during which time he went to Hong Kong to visit his son who worked there. In Hong Kong, Ronnie bumped into Derry Irvine and they had a nice meal and a chat. Howarth died while Ronnie was in Hong Kong.

John Saville co-authored with historian Asa Briggs. Briggs spent much of his career at Sussex University in Brighton and was Vice-Chancellor, 1967-76. John Allen owned brothels in Brighton to which he trafficked kids in care from north Wales and it was in Brighton where five witnesses to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal were killed by a firebomb in April 1992 (see post ‘The Silence Of The Lambs’).

Asa Briggs was particularly furious when three Sussex undergrads protested against a visit to Sussex University of a US official at a time when there was much bad feeling towards the US re the Vietnam War and threw some red paint over the official. Briggs never forgave them and banged on about it until he died. Then Briggs’s daughter took up the baton and in approx 2004 or 2005, while her father was still very much alive, told Radio 4 that he had never recovered from the trauma of the protesting students. One of the students came from the neighbouring village to Croesor in north Wales and knew about Gwynne and Dafydd et al. When he was much older, his wife died while in the care of the paedophiles’ friends who ran the Walton Centre. At the same time, the paedophiles’ friends in north Wales planned to fit him up for a criminal offence. See post ‘Anthem For Doomed Youth’.

Asa Briggs was Chancellor of the Open University, 1978-94. It was in 1979 that Stuart Hall was tempted away from his empire at the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies at Birmingham University to take up the Chair of Sociology at the OU (see post ‘Life In Cold Blood’).

Asa came from Yorkshire and served in the Intelligence Corps in WWII and was a friend of the man who later became DG of MI5. See post ‘Anthem For Doomed Youth’ for further details of Asa’s background and contribution to the world.

Ralph Miliband ended his membership of the Labour Party in the mid-1960s and subsequently remained independent of formal political affiliation.

Ralph Miliband’s work was influenced by his friend the American sociologist C. Wright Mills.

Ralph left the LSE in 1972, having found himself torn by the controversies which had beleaguered the institution over the preceding few years, particularly the LSE’s responses to student protests in the late 1960s. He took up the post of Professor of Politics at Leeds University – where Asa Briggs had been Professor of Modern History, 1955-61. The time at Leeds was an unhappy period for Miliband. He suffered a heart attack soon after the move, did not enjoy the administrative responsibilities as a Head of Department and he resigned in 1978.

Leeds was Jimmy Savile/Paedophilia Central and the joint was certainly jumping in 1978. At that time Peter Sutcliffe was murdering women in the area and the endemically corrupt West Yorkshire Police were far too busy colluding with Savile to find a serial killer. In 1980 Peter Sutcliffe murdered a student at Leeds University. Leeds University was in panic at the time and simply advised the girls not to go out anywhere after dark for any reason.

It was in 1978 that Jimmy Savile was chucked off a cruise ship after a complaint that he’d assaulted a 14 year old girl on board. 1978 was also the year that the BBC censored comments made by Johnny Rotten regarding Savile’s unsavoury conduct.

Jimmy Savile's name 'whitewashed' from walls of Stoke ...

After Leeds, Ralph Miliband subsequently assumed several posts in Canada and the USA. Ralph took a Chair at Brandeis University in 1977 and also lectured at other universities, including York University in Toronto and the City University of New York, although he remained based in London.

By the early 1980s Miliband was active in the Socialist Society with friends such as Tariq Ali and Hilary Wainwright.

Tariq Ali was active in the New Left of the 1960s and has long been associated with the ‘New Left Review’. Ali inserted himself – so to speak – into politics through his involvement with ‘The Black Dwarf’ newspaper and joined the International Marxist Group (IMG) in 1968. Tariq Ali was recruited to the leadership of the IMG and became a member of the International Executive Committee of the (reunified) Fourth International. He also befriended influential figures such as Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael, John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

John and Yoko holding a particularly ineffective protest:

File:Bed-In for Peace, Amsterdam 1969 - John Lennon & Yoko ...

In 1981, the IMG dissolved when its members entered the Labour Party: the IMG was promptly proscribed. Tariq Ali then abandoned activism in the revolutionary left and supported Tony Benn in his bid to become Deputy Leader of the Labour Party that year.

Some ten years ago I wrote to Tony Benn about the abuse of mental health patients in north Wales. Tony wrote me a reply thanking me for my letter and saying ‘sorry, but mental health is not my area’. In 1993 I wrote to Michael Mansfield complimenting him on his work for radical causes and told him about the abuses to which Gwynedd social workers were subjecting their clients. Michael wrote back thanking me for my letter and telling me that it was always good to have support. He didn’t mention Gwynedd social workers in his reply. Or indeed the police investigation into a possible paedophile ring in north Wales which was just coming to an end at that time.

Mike and his Radical Conscience:

Michael Mansfield - Wikipedia

Tariq Ali was a member of the Russell Tribunal, also known as the International War Crimes TribunalRussell-Sartre Tribunal, or Stockholm Tribunal. It was a private body organised by Bertrand Russell and hosted by Jean-Paul Sartre. The Tribunal investigated and evaluated American foreign policy and military intervention in Vietnam, following the 1954 defeat of French forces at Dien Bien Phu and the establishment of North and South Vietnam. The Tribunal did not investigate alleged war crimes by the Viet Cong. Bertrand Russell justified the establishment of this body as follows:

If certain acts and violations of treaties are crimes, they are crimes whether the United States does them or whether Germany does them. We are not prepared to lay down a rule of criminal conduct against others which we would not be willing to have invoked against us.

Justice Robert H. Jackson, Chief Prosecutor, Nuremberg War Crimes Trials.

The tribunal was constituted in Nov 1966 and was conducted in two sessions in 1967, in Stockholm and Roskilde. The Tribunal was largely ignored in the US. And probably everywhere else as well.

‘Nine-year-old DoVan Ngoc exhibits injuries from napalm in Vietnam’. Should Tariq ever suffer third degree chemical burns himself, perhaps he could let me know and I’ll arrange for a crowd of pompous self-righteous old farts with no intention of providing medical treatment, along with TV cameras, to inspect his injuries whilst he’s starkers. You’d never get this through an ethics committee. Unless of course it was an NHS one.

Further tribunals were set up in the following decades on the same model, using the denomination Russell Tribunal. eg. Russell Tribunal on Latin America focused on human rights violations in dictatorships of Argentina and Brazil (Rome, 1973), on Chile’s military coup d’état (Rome, 1974–76), on Human Rights in Psychiatry (Berlin, 2001) – ooh I’m glad to hear that, who gave evidence, Dafydd? – on Iraq (Brussels, 2004) and on Palestine (Barcelona, 2009–12). A hearing of the Russell-Sartre Tribunal was announced in Venice (23 Aug 2014) on human rights issues in the East Ukraine war.

Here’s Tariq and Vanessa Redgrave:

Tariq, if you drop me an e mail, I’ll explain why the revolution never happened.

Hilary Wainwright, another friend of Ralph’s, is a sociologist and activist who is best known for being editor of ‘Red Pepper’ magazine.

Hilary Wainwright’s father was Richard Wainwright, the Liberal MP for Colne Valley (in Yorkshire), 1966-70 and 1974-87. Richard Wainright was a contemporary of Jeremy Thorpe and Cyril Smith in Parliament. In 1953, Wainwright was elected to the Executive of the Liberal Party, and served as Party Chairman, 1970-72. He was Chairman of the Liberal Party Research Department (1968–70). After 1974, Wainwright focused on the financial management of the party. Wainwright worked with Eric Varley during the Lib-Lab pact of 1977-78. The Lib-Lab pact involved a lot of dealing between unscrupulous people in an attempt to hide everyone’s dirty washing. Little wonder it fell apart.

After Gerald Kaufperson died, it was discovered that Kaufperson had left his entire worldly goods to Eric Varley in his will (see post ‘News From Sicily’). Kaufperson’s children were gobsmacked, but the trauma wasn’t too great because Varley had pre-deceased Kaufperson, so they got the dosh after all, despite Kaufperson’s best efforts.

So Richard Wainwright was there throughout all the action: Jeremy telling people that he was planning to kill Norman, Norman telling people that Jeremy was doing terrible things to him and Lisa Nandy’s granddad just insulting Norman in response, Wainwright causing Thorpe’s resignation in 1976, when he called publicly on Thorpe to sue Norman Scott over the homosexual allegations that eventually figured in Thorpe’s trial, Jeremy standing trial and being acquitted after a farce (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’); the two Davids forming an Alliance involving paedophiles’ friends Woy and Shirl, David Steel dismissing Cyril Smith’s multiple serious sexual assaults on children as merely Cyril ‘spanking a few bare bottoms’ and stating that Jeremy’s trial was a tragedy for Jeremy, as opposed to a tragedy for the man whose dog was murdered and would have been murdered himself had the hit man’s gun not jammed.

Hilary: if I know about this, I’m sure that you do.

Richard Wainwright was a founding member of the Executive Committee of Charter 88. Some of those keeping quiet about the wrongdoing at St George’s Hospital Medical School were involved with Charter 88.

When the Liberal Party merged with the SDP to form the Liberal Democrats, Wainwright became a member working as President of the Yorkshire Federation of Liberal Democrats (1989–97).

Wainwright was a Methodist lay preacher. So he will have known child molester George Thomas who was one of the best known Methodist lay preachers in the UK for decades (see post ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’).

Between 1948 and 1958 Richard Wainwright served on the Leeds Group B Hospital Management Committee and was Chairman of the Arthington Hospital and Thorp Arch Hospital Committees. He served on the Committee for the Leeds, Skyrac and Morley Savings Bank Board of Managers and Leeds Library Committee. Further roles included Treasurer of the Leeds Invalid Children’s Aid Society and the Bethany House Free Church Probation Home.

Wainwright will have encountered Jimmy Savile.

Between 1959 and 1984 Wainwright was a member of the Joseph Rowntree Social Services Trust Limited (now the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust).

Wainwright’s wife Joyce was an active member of the Yorkshire Women’s Liberal Federation, fulfilling roles as both Chairman and President, and Chairman of the Colne Valley Women’s Liberal Council (1959–1987). She was also a member of the Executive of the national Women’s Liberal Federation. Joyce will have known as much as her husband, perhaps even more, because in those days ‘interfering with children’ was something that women heard about more often than men.

Hilary Wainwright’s brother, Martin,d worked for ‘The Guardian’ for 37 yrs, leaving in 2013. Martin was the Northern Editor of ‘The Guardian’ for 17 years until 2012. Hilary has occasionally contributed to ‘The Guardian’. Martin had published books on ‘countryside topics’ and on cars and he writes a blog about moths. He didn’t publish anything about Jimmy Savile or the Westminster Paedophile Ring, who I imagine impacted rather more on the nation’s life than moths ever have. Martin’s two sons Oliver and Tom are both journos, for ‘The Guardian’ and ‘The Economist’ respectively.

Hilary Wainwright was educated at the Mount School, York and St Anne’s College, Oxford. She took a further degree at St Antony’s College, Oxford, graduating in 1973. Until 1979, Wainwright was a research fellow at the Department of Sociology at Durham University. Prof David Byrne, a sociologist at Durham University, is someone who has worked in the north east for a long time and knew about organised child abuse in the north east of England but kept schtum about it (see post ‘I Warn You…’).

Hilary was a researcher at the Technology Department of the Open University, 1979-82. In 1982, she became Red Ken’s Deputy Chief Economic Adviser to the GLC, where she would have found out about all those kids in care from London Boroughs who were sent to children’s homes in north Wales.

Wainwright is a Fellow of the Transnational Institute, Amsterdam; Senior Research Associate at the International Centre for Participation Studies at the Department for Peace Studies, University of Bradford, UK and previously research fellow at the Centre for the Study of Global Governance at the LSE. She has also been a visiting Professor and Scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles; Havens Center, University of Wisconsin, Madison and Todai University, Tokyo. Formerly on the Editorial Board of ‘New Left Review’, Hilary was also on the National Council of the Catalyst think tank.

Hilary is ‘concerned with the emergence of new forms of democratic accountability within parties, movements and the state. She has documented examples of resurgent democratic movements in many countries around the world and the lessons they provide for progressive politics’.

OK Hil, I’ll call on you next re the resurgent democratic movement, because Wedgy Benn, Mike Mansfield and Tariq haven’t managed to launch the revolution yet. Let me know when you can fit it in among the columns for ‘The Guardian’.

In July 2015, Wainwright endorsed Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign in the Labour Party leadership election. She said: ‘To be honest, the Labour Party isn’t worth that valuable three quid. But a platform for someone who not only insists that there is an alternative, but stretches himself to support everyone who is fighting for it, is beyond anything that money can buy.’ Hilary added: ‘I believe Jeremy Corbyn should be supported not as an attempt to ‘reclaim the Labour Party’ but as a transition to a political organisation beyond the Labour Party and beyond parliamentary politics’.

Jeremy Corbyn formerly worked for NUPE, which represented many social workers and managers who presided over the abuse of children in their care. Dr Liz Davies, who blew the whistle on the abuse of children in the care of Islington Borough Council, maintains that she told Jeremy, the local MP, that the kids were being abused but Jeremy did not act. Some of the children abused by the Islington gang were killed and one social worker disappeared and was never seen again. Jeremy’s election agent, Derek Sawyer, was the business partner of Derek Slade, who was imprisoned for sexual assaults on a number of children (see post ‘The Turn Of The Screw’).

In 1971, Wainwright married the British philosopher Roy Bhaskar. They split up, remained close friends, but never divorced.

Whilst on the topic of Socialist Feminist Wimmin, I’ll mention the magical realist feminist novelist Angela Carter. Angela was very much part of the zeitgeist of the 1970s and 80s and wrote about matters such as the abuse and enslavement of wimmin and contributed her thoughts to the debate on porn. Angela grew up in south London and as a teenager suffered from anorexia. Angela was often held up to be someone with Caring Wimmin’s Ways. So imagine my surprise when I was working at St George’s Hospital Medical School and I discovered that the dreadful Dr Cathy Wilson had become friends with Angela Carter via a reading group. The Cathy who, along with her colleagues, was concealing a paedophile and trafficking ring in south London with links across Europe. Cathy really admired Angela’s Wimmin’s Writing.

One of Carter’s most well-known books is ‘Nights At The Circus’. Other volumes included ‘The Infernal Desire Machines Of Dr Hoffman’ and ‘The Bloody Chamber’.

Ralph Miliband died in 1994. He is buried in Highgate Cemetery, close to Karl Marx. My friends who were targeted by a gangster and then forced out of their jobs at the Royal Television Society and the BBC after they found out what was happening to me in north Wales lived just down the road from Highgate Cemetery when they were targeted. They were members of the Labour Party and campaigned for Tessa Jowell no less, lived among the lefties in Camden yet no-one stood by them. See post ‘The Turn Of The Screw’.

The Milibands lived in Primrose Hill and later in Bolton Gardens, South Kensington.

Ralph’s elder son, David, was Labour MP for South Shields, 2001-13, one of Blair’s allies up there in the north east, at the site of one of the big paedophile gangs with direct links to Dafydd et al. David served in the Cabinet, from 2007-10 as Foreign Secretary, during which time he wowed Hillary Clinton. That was before Hillary just knew that she would be breaking a glass ceiling, until America decided that they’d rather have Trump than another sodding Clinton. The Clinton had elbowed every other Democrat possibility out of the way because she just knew that being President was her right, so the Republicans got in.

For details of David Miliband’s unscrupulous struggle to climb the greasy pole, see posts ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’. David is now failing to make headway re the Syria crisis, in his capacity as CEO of the International Rescue Committee. The Syrians are being barrel bombed by a former London Top Doc (see post ‘The Rakes’ Progress’) and we know how much trouble politicians have saying no to Top Docs who are killing people.

Ralph’s younger son Ed’s climb to the top was as unprincipled as that of his brother, although it was actually Ed who beat his brother – although David was perceived to be more able – in the Labour Party leadership contest in Sept 2010.

Ed was elected as Labour MP for Doncaster North in 2005. So once again, Blair ensured that a safe pair of hands ended up in a constituency with a problem of long standing child sexual abuse. Ed served as Minister for the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office, 2007-08, in which role he was party to the excesses of the Third Sector, including their ruthless fundraising methods, their collusion with the abuse of vulnerable people and their terror of challenging Gov’t. In Oct 2008 Ed was promoted to the position of Secretary of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

It was Ed who drafted the 2010 Labour Party manifesto. Labour lost the 2010 General Election. So the only sensible course of action for the Labour Party, was to, just a few months later, select Ed as their leader. The Windbag announced that he would endorse Ed’s campaign, saying that Ed had ‘the capacity to inspire people’ and that he had ‘strong values and the ability to ‘lift’ people’. Other senior Labour figures who backed Ed included Tony Benn and former Deputy Leaders Fattersley and Margaret Beckett in her caravan.

If all Labour supporters known to me put their heads in their hands and said ‘Oh God no, Ed’s going to be a disaster, we’ll lose the fucking election now’, why couldn’t Benn, Fattersely and Beckett have seen it? Obviously I know why the Windbag couldn’t, the Windbag has a well-developed inability to foresee an election thrashing.

Li’l old Ed certainly got off to a flying start in politics. In the late 1980s, before he took his A levels, he worked as an intern for Tony Benn, a family friend. After A levels, Ed went to Corpus Christie, Oxford, where he became JCR President. I know someone who knew Ed in those days and Ed gave them a bollocking for voting for what Ed claimed was the ‘establishment’ candidate in a University election. So is this person now filling his boots in the financial services, pursuing an establishment job or beavering away in the staid civil service, unlike the Rebel Ed? No. He’s an academic at Bangor University publishing excellent work but he also has an outstanding track record with regard to mentoring and supporting disadvantaged students or students with difficulties. He has been bullied in the workplace, partly because of his insistence on defending other members of staff who were treated unfairly and on one occasion because of his support for me as the paedophiles’ friends came after my blood. He showed rather more strength than your dad’s mates did Ed. This academic’s Head of Dept who behaved so appallingly was married to one of the UCU reps, a revolutionary Marxist. Oh the irony. Furthermore, my former colleague didn’t feel able to make representation about all the gross experiences to which he was subjected by his Head of Dept, because some of it could only be interpreted as sexual harassment and he felt that a male member of staff could not really make a complaint about a female Head of Dept sexually harassing him. He even wondered if he was misinterpreting things. I did explain that he wasn’t, when a female Head of Dept kneels on a desk in front of a male member of staff and shoves her cleavage in his face, she does know what she is doing. Didn’t you Stephanie Marriott? As she did when she knowingly tried to block research grant applications that I had written with the man whom Marriott was doing all that she could to drive out of his job.

Come on Ed, send out a #Me Too in support of your old neighbour at Corpus Christie!

In 1992 Ed was employed as a researcher on C4 for Andrew Rawnsley, on the programme ‘A Week In Politics’. There was at the time a police investigation into allegations that a VIP paedophile ring was in operation in north Wales. The ring which so many of Ed’s dad’s mates knew about.

In 1993 Ed became the policy researcher and speechwriter to Harriet. The Harriet who was MP for Peckham, where my mates were rehoused after they had been hounded out of Archway by a gangster. Peckham was positively dangerous, their flat was broken into within three weeks of them moving in, then a woman dosed up to the eye-balls on heroin drove into one of my friends and injured her and the local GP accused my friend of malingering to obtain compensation (see post ‘The Turn Of The Screw’).

Harriet fought election campaigns on her support for the NHS. Harriet’s dad was a Harley Street doctor.

In 1994, Ed worked for Gordon Brown, under the new Party leader Blair!

Ed was Gordon’s SPAD, 1997-02. Up in north Wales, the Waterhouse Inquiry came and went and the corpses of former kids in care and psych patients were discovered on a regular basis. All those metropolitan revolutionaries who knew people in north Wales from their visits to the region remained silent.

In July 2002, it was announced that Ed would take a 12-month unpaid sabbatical from HM Treasury to be a visiting scholar at Harvard. He spent his time at Harvard teaching economics and stayed there after Sept 2003 for an additional semester teaching a course titled ‘What’s Left? The Politics of Social Justice’. During this time, in the spirit of social justice, Primrose Hill dwelling-Oxford-educated-son of a well-known Professor Ed was granted ‘access’ to Senator John Kerry and reported to Gordon Brown on the presidential hopeful’s progress.

In 2002 in north Wales, the paedophile gang that Ed’s dad’s friends all knew about embarked upon yet another attempt to have me imprisoned on the basis of their perjury (see post ‘Interesting Happenings In The Legal System’).

After Ed returned to the UK in Jan 200, Gordon Brown appointed him Chairman of HM Treasury’s Council of Economic Advisers with specific responsibility for directing the UK’s long-term economic planning.

In early 2005, Ed resigned his advisory role to HM Treasury to stand for election. Gordon Brown visited Doncaster North during the General Election campaign to support Ed. Ed was elected on 5 May 2005.

It was about at this time that John McTernan’s brother-in-law stole my computer.

On 27 Sept 2013, the ‘Daily Mail’ published an article disputing Ralph Miliband’s patriotism with the headline ‘The man who hated Britain’. Three days later, after negotiations, the ‘Mail’ published a response by Ed describing his father’s life and saying that the Daily Mail’s article was character assassination. At the same time as publishing this response, the newspaper reiterated its assertion and published an editorial refusing to apologise. The Labour leader’s office responded that Ed: ‘wanted the ‘Daily Mail’ to treat his late father’s reputation fairly. Rather than acknowledge it has smeared his father, the newspaper has repeated its original claim. This simply diminishes the ‘Daily Mail’ further. It will be for people to judge whether this newspaper’s treatment of a war veteran, Jewish refugee from the Nazis and distinguished academic reflects the values and decency we should all expect in our political debate.’

Just for the record Ed, I don’t think that your dad hated Britain either and it is only the ‘Daily Mail’ that could ever equate being a Marxist sociologist with ‘hating Britain’. However I do think that your dad was a grade A hypocrite who, along with many of his friends, turned his back on some desperate people in need because helping them would have involved going public on some very unpalatable truths about serious crime and abuse in swathes of the welfare state, including the NHS. Your dad died at the age of 70 after heart surgery had given him a few extra years. He wasn’t beaten and raped in a children’s home and then fitted up and transferred to Risley Remand Centre where he was then murdered; he wasn’t unlawfully imprisoned in a dungeon in an asylum in the middle of the Welsh hills and he wasn’t even forced out of two careers and denied all NHS treatment because he had complained about a group of Top Doctors who were running a trafficking ring. Your dad suffered when he was young Ed, but he suffered at the hands of the Nazis. No-one then spent a lifetime telling him that the Nazis were caring people doing their best and that he was a lying bastard for suggesting that they weren’t.

Ed and David did not experience disadvantage when they were young. Ralph made damn sure that they never ended up in a kids home in north Wales or on the receiving end of Dafydd. Instead they bagged jobs as interns for Tony Benn.

Ed had another scrap with the press – the ‘Mail On Sunday’ – when it was found that a reporter had intruded on the private funeral of Ed’s uncle. Lord Rothermere and the Mail On Sunday’s Editor apologised for this. The funeral concerned was that of Uncle Harry aka Prof Harry Keen, a Top Doc at Guy’s and Tommy’s. Some of Uncle Harry’s colleagues were among the highest earners in medicine, holding NHS consultancy posts and running Harley Street practices. A number of Uncle Harry’s colleagues knew Dafydd et al and were concealing their crimes. Dafydd et al weren’t pilfering from the office Ed, they ran a paedophile gang and killed witnesses whilst your Uncle’s mates ignored it and drove down to Harley Street in their Rolls Royces.

What’s Left? Nothing Ed, you and your extended network have had the lot.

The Boxers are all dead Ed. They’ve worked their arses off, they’ve been bled dry and flogged off to the knackers yard. There are only Napoleans, Snowballs and Squealers left. They can’t do anything, they won’t work hard and they all want to be leader. What are you going to do?

Despite Ed losing the election, the UK’s splendid system of patronage and cronyism meant that Ed was allowed to nominate a few who would be elevated to the peerage in the bun fest. One such person nominated by Ed was Spencer Livermore. Spencer ran Ed’s campaign. Ed’s disastrous, failed campaign. So naturally Spencer was given a seat in the Lords.

Spencer Elliot Livermore, Baron Livermore (born 12 June 1975) is a Labour Party strategy and communications professional ie. he organises campaigns which fail.

Spencer served as an adviser to the New Labour Gov’t, 1997-08, as Director of Strategy to the PM and as Chief Strategy Adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Anyone remember that huge financial crash which happened when Spencer and Gordon were steering the ship?  Harriet thought that if only Lehman Brothers had been called Lehman Sisters it would have all been avoided, but I suspect that there might have been something rather more amiss than that.

Spencer also served as a senior adviser on four General Elections campaigns: 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2015. ‘The Guardian’ described him as one of the most experienced election campaigners in the Labour Party. Philip Gould described him in ‘The Unfinished Revolution’ as one of seven people who devised the strategy for the election-winning 2001 and 2005 General Election campaigns.

Spencer, do you know anything about that computer of mine which John McTernan’s brother-in-law nicked? Or about Betty Williams, one of Blair’s babes, getting her minders to throw me out of Tesco in Bangor when she was canvassing in there before the 2005 General Election and I asked her a few questions about deaths and patient harm in the north Wales NHS?

Livermore grew up in Essex and studied at the LSE, graduating in 1996.

During his time with New Labour, Livermore also worked on a number of US congressional campaigns.

Spencer is gay and is married to Seb Dance MEP, who represents the London region for the Labour Party. Seb was born in Wandsworth in Dec 1981. So Seb probably grew up just down the road from St George’s Hospital when the staff of that institution – many of whom lived in Wandsworth – were colluding with a trafficking ring. By the late 1980s, Dafydd and Lucille in north Wales had a direct link to Wandsworth Social Services. The Director of Education for Wandsworth, Donald Naismith, was known to be a paedophile and was abusing kids in care. The staff of St George’s and Wandsworth Social Services were also selling and distributing Class A drugs. The gang operating out of St George’s/Wandsworth was a pan-European operation.

Seb, many of the people who are named on my documents relating to these crimes are not only still alive but they are working in medicine/the social services, many of them in London. In your capacity as an MEP for London, should you not be taking an interest in this?

Michael Mansfield lived in Wandsworth and was someone else who ignored it all.

Seb went to Manchester University and worked as a sabbatical officer with the SU. When Seb was at Manchester, the mental health services in Manchester were dangerous, patients were dying and there was also intimidation of staff who had dared speak out about this by their NHS colleagues AND union officials.

Before Seb became an MEP, he worked for the charidee Action Aid. One of the mental health patients whom I knew in north Wales who was unlawfully detained and wrecked by huge doses of anti-psychotics etc had previously lived in London and worked for Action Aid. She told me a few very worrying things about Action Aid Seb, but of course anything she said was dismissed by the Angels because she was mad. On one occasion she maintained that Dr Tony Francis arrived on the ward late at night and exposed himself to her. Her parents – who were her carers – were livid and demanded an investigation. They were told that Francis was not in the hospital that night. I don’t know whether he was or was not, but I do know that this young woman had been originally sectioned by Jackie Brandt, a Gwynedd social worker who had detained me unlawfully just months previously. I also know that Dafydd turned up at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh to see me at midnight, when I was in bed. Dafydd’s late night visit was not recorded on my file anywhere.

By the way Seb, did you know John Westendorp of Action Aid? Because I did! He came and stayed at my place on Anglesey in 2000. He’d come to north Wales because a Hergest patient who was a talented artist donated an oil painting to be sold to raise money for Action Aid. The artist originally offered the painting to Ysbyty Gwynedd, but weeks later the Angel Bridget Lloyd perjured herself and had him arrested, so he withdrew his offer and gave the painting to Action Aid instead.

Funny Seb working for Action Aid, what with me having had contact with them before he was employed by Action Aid! And a Hergest-paedophile gang link as well!

Seb was an adviser to the Secretary of State for N Ireland, 2007-09. Which was Shaun Woodward, who began his political career as a Tory MP. Before he entered Parliament, Woodward worked as a researcher and producer for BBC TV News and Current Affairs on the programmes ‘That’s Life’, ‘Panorama’ and ‘Newsnight’, 1982-90. So Shaun worked for ‘That’s Life’ when I wrote to Esther about the abuse of patients at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh, when Esther launched her mental health campaign in the late 1980s.

From 1991–2, Shaun was Director of Communications for the Conservative Party. While the first police investigation of a possible VIP paedophile ring in north Wales was taking place. And of course while my career and the careers of three other witnesses were ruined (see post ‘The Turn Of The Screw). And when relatives and friends of senior members of the Tory Party were turning up in Somerset giving Coutts cheques to people who knew what was happening to me in north Wales (see post ‘Upper Class Twit Of The Year – Shooting Themselves’). Hey Shaun, do you remember Feb 1991, when Lilibet knighted Peter Morrison, a member of the north Wales/Cheshire paedophile ring? You can’t have not noticed, Morrison had run Thatcher’s leadership campaign for her just weeks before, but she lost to Major.

Woodward was selected as Douglas Hurd’s successor as Conservative candidate for Witney at the 1997 General Election. I wonder if Shaun ever got round to chatting to Douglas about all the criminality in north Wales that Douglas concealed when he was Home Secretary? Or how Douglas covered up events at the Kincora Boys’ Home when Douglas was Secretary of State for N Ireland.

Woodward then left the Tories and joined the ruling Labour Party in 1999, after William Hague sacked Woodward from the front bench for supporting the repeal of Section 28. Woodward was given a job co-ordinating the Labour Party’s 2001 General Election campaign. Woodward’s local Conservative constituency association requested that he resign and run again in a by-election under the Labour banner. Woodward continued to represent his constituency for two years.

Woodward’s defection was welcomed by Blair, Mandy et al, but he was strongly criticised by others from both the Tory and Labour Parties.

In the June 2001 General Election, Woodward decided not to contest his Witney seat and instead found a safe Labour seat in St Helen’s South. Chris Mullin wrote with shock of ‘the awful Shaun Woodward’, calling ‘the New Labour elite parachuting [Woodward] into a safe seat … one of New Labour’s vilest stitch-ups … made my flesh creep’. St Helen’s was part of Dafydd’s Merseyside empire (see post ‘Reports Of Death Were Greatly Exaggerated’). In May 2005, Woodward was re-elected for St Helen’s South.

After the 2005 election, Woodward was appointed junior Minister at the N Ireland Office, under Peter Hain. In the May 2006 reshuffle, Blair named Woodward junior Minister at the Dept for Culture, Media and Sport. On 28 June 2007, in his first Cabinet, newly appointed PM Gordon Brown appointed Woodward as the N Ireland Secretary, replacing Peter Hain. Woodward chose not to receive a ministerial salary because of his personal wealth. As N Ireland Secretary, Woodward reportedly became a close confidant of Gordon Brown. This was largely due to Woodward’s previous first hand experiences of the beleaguered Gov’t of John Major.

Woodward was retained as Shadow Secretary of State for N Ireland by Labour leader Ed for just under a year.

In Nov 2013 Woodward announced that he would stand down from Parliament at the next General Election. Ed wrote to him: ‘In 1999, you made an incredibly hard decision to cross the floor of the House and join the Labour party. It took personal courage and political commitment, and our party will forever be grateful to you.’

Woodward married Camilla Davan Sainsbury, daughter of former Conservative MP Tim Sainsbury of the supermarkets in May 1987; they announced their separation after 28 years on 20 Dec 2015. They have one son and three daughters, including the food blogger Ella Woodward.

Lord David Sainsbury is Sir Tim Sainsbury’s cousin. David Sainsbury gave millions to the Labour Party and was appointed Science Minister, two events which were, as stressed by Charlie Falconer, unrelated. David founded the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, which at one point was virtually dictating mental health policy under Blair and was shamelessly plugged in teaching resources for the NVQ in Mental Health. David Sainsbury was appointed Chancellor of Cambridge University in 2011 after donating more than £100 million to the institution. More recently, Lord David has bankrolled research into neuroscience at UCL. For further details regarding whom David is funding, see post ‘Inside Information About A Hergest Unit Death’.

After leaving his wife, Woodward was reported to be in a relationship with Luke Redgrave, a film cameraman and the grandson of the actor Sir Michael Redgrave, Vanessa’s father. In 2016 Woodward and Redgrave were living together in The Hamptons, New York State.

In March 2001, Woodward was said to be the only Labour MP with a butler.

Woodward currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Human Dignity Trust and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

After Gordon Brown failed to call a General Election, Spencer Livermore left Downing Street in 2008 and joined Saatchi & Saatchi as Senior Strategist, shaping strategy for clients including Eurostar, the BBC and Asda. Livermore also became a Director at London-based communications consultancy Blue Rubicon. He developed insight-based communication strategies for multinational companies, including Shell, Coca-Cola, GSK, Lloyds Banking Group, Centrica and McDonalds.

In 2012, Spencer set up Thirty Six Strategy, where he applied the techniques of political campaign strategy to advise clients on their corporate and brand positioning.

In Dec 2013 Livermore returned to the political arena when he was appointed the Labour Party’s General Election Campaign Director for its unsuccessful 2015 General Election. In Nov 2015 Spencer gave an interview on BBC Radio 4 setting out why Labour lost that election. I presumed that it had something to do with the Party leader being a tosser, who surrounded himself with other tossers and the whole lot of them enraging the nation when they openly discussed which tosser was going to have which Cabinet job weeks before the election. Dyed in the wool Tories weren’t going to vote Labour anyway and although Spencer might not have noticed this, thousands of potential Labour voters have now had a bellyful of strategic communication advisers specialising in corporate brand positioning. It is bollocks Spencer and it’s losing the Labour Party elections.

‘They Planned To Put Acid In All The Reservoirs…’

I’ve just finished reading Stephen Bentley’s book ‘Undercover: Operation Julie – The Inside Story’. Stephen Bentley was one of the undercover police officers who worked on Operation Julie the celebrated undercover police investigation which ran between 1976-78. Operation Julie resulted in a huge drugs bust in 1977 and was followed in March 1978 by the sentencing of 15 people at Bristol Crown Court who were jailed in total for 124 years. The trial at Bristol was presided over by Mr Justice Park aka Sir Hugh Park, but there were numerous other associated trials in lower courts as well which dealt with more than 100 defendents, as well as a raid in the Dordogne in the south of France. Operation Julie was an investigation which spanned much of the UK and involved 11 police forces, but most of the action took place in rural mid-Wales.

Numerous myths surround Operation Julie – many of them have been denounced as being untrue even by the officers who worked on the case and others have been denounced as being untrue by friends of the people who were prosecuted. Some things that have been accepted as ‘fact’ by everyone are highly improbable if one just thinks a little bit about what was alleged to have happened. One thing that everybody agrees on – including Stephen Bentley – is that Operation Julie cost a huge amount of money, was hampered by police corruption and did nothing at all to impede the tide of hard drugs that had begun pouring into the UK as a result of organised crime.

The stars of Operation Julie were a group of hippies who were living in mid-Wales in the mid-1970s and who had allegedly set up an LSD factory with the intention of manufacturing enormous quantities of the drug in order to spike the reservoirs supplying water to Birmingham with the aim of enablling the Brummies to receive the beneficial effects of getting off their heads. The spiking of the reservoirs story is the one thing that many people think that they know about Operation Julie, but that is also something for which there doesn’t seem to be much evidence. Some of the people from mid-Wales who were convicted did subscribe to the idea that taking LSD was a good idea – they took LSD themselves and had no doubt made a bit of it, but that’s about where the truth ends. As the years have passed, there has been increasing disquiet expressed about what happened during Operation Julie, the lies that the police fed to the media – that the media then obediently and very successfully promulgated – and regarding the fact at least one of those imprisoned did no more than make sandwiches for her boyfriend who was alleged to be making the LSD. Bentley himself claims that during the course of Operation Julie the undercover officers uncovered far more serious crime which was ‘handed over’ to others to deal with.

Operation Julie was conducted whilst business was booming for John Allen and his associates’ empire of child prostitution, porn and hard drugs in north Wales. Allen’s children’s homes, the Bryn Alyn Community, were receiving children from local authorities across England and Wales and Allen also had a villa in the south of France where he was taking children for ‘holidays’. Operation Julie could not have failed to have stumbled across Allen’s criminal empire.

The principal ‘LSD factory’ which was placed under observation by Operation Julie was located in a house at Tregaron, the home of Richard Kemp and his girlfriend Christine Bott. Another house, Plas Llysyn, owned by American Paul Arnaboldi – Kemp’s friend – in another part of mid-Wales, Carno near Llanidloes, was also observed. Bentley and another undercover officer infiltrated a village called Llandewi Brefi whilst disguised as hippies. Llandewi Brefi was targeted because a man called Alston Hughes aka ‘Smiles’ lived there. Alston was English and had connections in London and Birmingham and was alleged to be the distributor of the vast quantities of LSD produced nearby – he received an eight year prison sentence. All this surveillance and infiltration was happening on the patch of the Dyfed-Powys police force.

At that time, there was abuse of children in care happening in Dyfed and Pembrokeshire (Dyfed-Powys Police cover Pembrokeshire). Ioan Bowen Rees, the County Secretary of Dyfed County Council, moved to Gwynedd County Council to take up the post of Chief Exec in 1980, where he remained until 1991. It was on Ioan Bowen Rees’s watch that organised child abuse in the children’s homes in Gwynedd reached dizzy heights, with children being trafficked to London and Brighton (see posts ‘I Know Nuzzing…’ and ‘Are You Local?’). Alison Taylor, a social worker from Gwynedd, blew the whistle on the child abuse loudly and clearly to Bowen Rees and his Director of Social Services Lucille Hughes – Alison was sacked and the abuse continued. Bowen Rees’s idea of investigating Alison’s concerns was to invite his former colleagues from Dyfed County Council up to ‘review’ the children’s homes in Gwynedd. Under Bowen Rees the chaos, corruption and fuckwittery in Gwynedd Social Services reached new highs (see post ‘I Know Nuzzing…’). Gwynedd was a by-word for a Council that was a law unto itself, founded upon nepotism and cronyism. Operation Julie could not have missed the stories emanating out of Gwynedd – Gwynedd is only a few miles north of Aberystwyth Police Station, the venue for the meeting of the Operation Julie team for briefing and it borders Machynlleth, where it was claimed the crucial evidence was found that led to the establishment of the whole enormous police operation. At the time there was serious institutionalised corruption in the North Wales Constabulary/Police and in the legal system across Wales. The drug squad based in Gwynedd in particular were totally bent and I personally know people whom they framed and who ended up in prison (see post ‘Top Of The Cops’). One man who was fitted up by the drug squad in Gwynedd and then violently assaulted by a police officer in Bangor Police Station ended up in Risley Remand Centre and was then transferred to the ‘care’ of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh for a year after Dafydd diagnosed him with ‘cannabis psychosis’. There was never an investigation into what happened to him – or his wife who also had cocaine planted on her – at the hands of the police. The Chief Constable of North Wales throughout the paedophile and serious corruption years who presided over some truly extraordinary events was Sir Philip Myers (see post ‘Top Of The Cops’).

I suspect that as with the prosecutions of paedophiles in north Wales, Operation Julie made a great display of prosecuting and imprisoning the small fry – and very likely a number of people who were completely innocent – whilst ignoring some very serious criminals. In his book Bentley mentions uncovering links to the CIA.

Although the publicity in the wake of the Operation Julie painted a terrible picture of the hippies on trial who were running the ‘biggest LSD factory in the world, supplying 90% of the world’s LSD’, there is plenty of evidence that they weren’t quite the people portrayed in the media. In mid-Wales their neighbours actually liked them – yes they were hippies, but they were friendly and well-educated (two of those involved were medical doctors and one had a PhD in chemistry). When the undercover police first infiltrated mid-Wales, their cover was nearly blown because their behaviour was so much worse than the people whom they had placed under surveillance. Bentley’s own account of himself in his book isn’t too flattering – he stresses that he was never a corrupt officer, but he seems to have known many people who were. I can understand the difficulty that he and his colleagues encountered when they tried to pass themselves off as hippies…

After Operation Julie, Stephen Bentley left the police force and in 1997 he became a barrister – he mentions that the recreational drug of choice for barristers is cocaine…

Stephen Bentley is now living in the Philippines.

Dr Christine Bott – who ended up being sentenced to nine years in prison for daring to be the girlfriend of Richard Kemp (the ‘drug chemist’) and for making meals for the ‘gang’ – had read medicine at Liverpool University and then worked as a GP. What she really liked doing was keeping and breeding goats and she was well-known in mid-Wales for this. Richard Kemp had done his PhD at Liverpool University, which was where he had met Christine – Richard was sentenced to 13 yrs.

Christine and Richard were students at Liverpool in the 1960s. Liverpool University produced graduates who did very much worse things than Christine and Richard. Whilst Dr Dafydd Alun Jones was at Liverpool University in the early 60s he was visiting IRA activists in order to pick up a bit of advice to use in activist activities back home in Wales (see post ‘A Network Stretching Back Decades’). The security services will have known about Dafydd – they had all the Welsh nationalist activists under observation, because of their links to the IRA and the Gov’ts fears that Welsh activism might become very violent. Stephen Bentley talks about the FWA (Free Wales Army) in his book – one of the leaders of the FWA was Julian Cayo-Evans, who was based in Lampeter and Bentley and his colleagues used to bump into supporters of the FWA. The Welsh political blog Jac O The North is written by Royston Jones who was a member of the FWA and a friend of Cayo – at one point (I think during the investiture) Jac went into hiding in Ireland because he was surrounded by the security services wherever he went in Wales. Of course the security services knew about Dafydd – but the security services helped conceal the Westminster Paedophile Ring, which was being supplied with child prostitutes by the paedophile gang who Dafydd was assisting.

Professor Robert Owen, the Medical Ombudsman for Wales who concealed Dafydd’s wrongdoing (see post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’), was Professor of Surgery at Liverpool Medical School. North Wales was/is packed with Top Doctors and other professionals who had been educated at Liverpool University who were among the paedophiles’ friends. None of them were ever arrested. Yet a well-liked GP who kept goats and lived quietly in deepest mid-Wales ended up being sentenced to nine years in prison on the basis of the alleged activities of her boyfriend.

Dr Christine Bott had also worked at Charing Cross Hospital. We know that the paedophiles’ friends enjoy the support of their colleagues in the London teaching hospitals. I wonder what Christine knew about who. We can’t ask her, because she is dead now, as is Richard and a number of the others who were sentenced. When Christine and Richard came out of prison they kept a low profile, so no-one ever heard their side of the story. They were welcomed back to mid-Wales, so people there couldn’t have had much of a problem with them. What we did hear much about were the over-blown fantasies of dodgy coppers in terms of the activities of hippies – the police revealed that a rat ‘which had died from an overdose of LSD’ had been found at one property. At Plas Llysyn at Carno, samples of water from the cellar were taken which incredibly enough contained LSD ‘which matched LSD samples’ in the possession of the police. A frog and a mole were also taken away for testing – it was revealed that they’d been on acid as well. But beyond ‘traces’ of LSD, nothing was discovered after the police had broken into the Plas in the belief that it was a constituent part of the biggest LSD factory in the world. The police knew why they didn’t find anything though – it was because the hippies had abandoned the Plas! So how did the hippies manage to make their getaway along with all the equipment and goodies whilst the police were watching the place?

As is often the case with raids by the drug squad, by the time that the Operation Julie cases came to trial, the police boasted of having discovered a wonderland of goodies worth an absolute fortune – when the police didn’t actually produce the mountains of LSD, allegations of a huge stash of LSD buried somewhere in woodland in mid-Wales were bandied about. Likewise, the value of the LSD that the police claimed to have recovered didn’t equate to what was actually recovered by the police (the situation conjures up the old favourite which made an outing on one of Mel Smith and Gruff Rhys Jones’s programmes years ago – ‘that means the police are paying three times as much for their drugs as the rest of us’). The event which actually precipitated the establishment of Operation Julie and which sounded even more like the fantasy of a dodgy copper was a lot more worrying than stories about rats, frogs and moles overdosing on hallucinogens, as we shall see.

In the mid-70s, a number of senior police officers – including some of those who led Operation Julie – were trying to persuade the Home Office to set up a national police force and a national drug squad. My post ‘Little Things Hitting Each Other’ describes the serious corruption at the top of the Home Office’s drugs branch at this time, which went hand in hand with the corruption on the part of some of the Top Doctors holding Home Office drugs licences and treating addicts, including Dafydd.

Prior to Operation Julie, Detective Chief Inspector Dick Lee of the Thames Valley Police Drug Squad maintained that he had noticed a huge increase in the amount of LSD ‘arriving into the UK’ whilst he policed pop festivals in the south of England. Dick Lee was someone who wanted a national drug squad created which operated independently of the rest of the force. The international suppliers of LSD in mid-Wales were only ever brought to the attention of Dick Lee after Gerry Thomas, an associate of David Solomon – a Californian who was associated with Timothy Leary and who had been introduced to Richard Kemp in 1968 by a university colleague – was caught trying to smuggle cannabis into Canada. Thomas had known Richard Kemp and Kemp’s friends and Thomas gave information to the authorities in Canada in return for a shorter sentence. The information that he supplied was that the ‘biggest acid lab in the world’ was being run in mid-Wales. Thomas named Richard Kemp, Christine Bott, David Solomon and ‘a man called Henry’. This ‘intelligence’ was passed across the Atlantic and reached the ears of Dick Lee. Richard Kemp ‘was known’ to be living in Wales and ‘driving a red Range Rover’ – well of course this was ‘known’, he and Christine weren’t trying to hide, they lived in Tregaron with their goats and Christine even appeared in the local press with her prize-winning goats. Dick Lee alerted the Dyfed-Powys Police and Detective Sergeant Richie Parry – who was in charge of the Dyfed-Powys Drug Squad pre-Operation Julie – contacted his old drug squad colleague Dai Rees who was now a traffic inspector in Dyfed-Powys Police and told him to get in touch in the event of any ‘incidents’ involving a red Range Rover.

As so often happened in matters involving the drug squad in those days, within weeks – in April 1975 – ‘by pure coincidence’ the control room heard about a serious car crash near Machynlleth involving a red Range Rover. It was of course Richard Kemp’s car and he and Christine were in it at the time. The accident was a serious one – Kemp’s Range Rover had hit another car head on which contained a Minister and his pregnant wife. The Minister’s wife was killed and the Minister was seriously injured, although Kemp and Christine ‘escaped with their lives’. Kemp’s Range Rover was impounded by the police and searched.

During the search, the police found six strips of paper in the car which when ‘reconstructed’ into one piece was found to have the words ‘hydrazine hydrate’ written on it,a key ingredient in the manufacture of LSD. The police therefore had the evidence that they needed against Richard Kemp – whom Dick Lee already ‘knew’ was part of an enormous drugs ring – the evidence needed to set up a huge national police operation involving those senior officers who had been so keen to do this but needed to persuade the Home Office and ACPO that there was justification for it. Why a man with a PhD in chemistry who was allegedly mass-producing LSD  – indeed 90% of the global LSD supply – would need to write the name of the main ingredient on a piece of paper and cut it into small pieces which were then strewn around his car was never explained. This ‘evidence’ is as implausible as the physiologically impossible ‘evidence’ on which the Rev Emyr Owen from Tywyn was convicted in 1985, after he was accused of chopping penises off corpses and eliciting erections in the severed penises – penises which were never actually found (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’).

So it must have been most convenient when Richard Kemp crashed his car in Machynlleth – just after the police had been told to look out for any incidents involving that car – killing a pregnant Minister’s wife in the process (the local people liked Richard and Christine remember which could have caused the police difficulties), whilst those scraps of paper with ‘hydrazine hydrate’ written on them were in the car belonging to Mr Big. The only thing that the police seemed to have forgotten to mention was that the writing on the paper was in lemon juice and that they read it by warming the paper up, a la Fatty in the ‘Five Find-Outers’ as conjured up by the imagination of Enid Blyton. Although I seem to remember that Fatty’s nemesis was actually a foul incompetent policeman called Mr Goon – one wonders how Fatty never found himself fitted up for dealing to the ‘Secret Seven’.

The bits of paper constituted the solid evidence needed for Dick Lee and his mates such as Detective Inspector Derek Godfrey from Scotland Yard to convince the Home Office and ACPO that a massive police operation across the UK was needed. Not that ACPO will have needed that much convincing – the President was Sir Philip Myers the Chief Constable of North Wales. In Feb 1976 a meeting was held at Brecon between a number of Chief Constables and senior drug squad officers and a multiforce operation was arranged which evolved into Operation Julie. In May 1976 officers from Operation Julie had moved into the house overlooking Richard Kemp’s cottage and had placed him and Christine under constant surveillance. After Operation Julie concluded, other police officers revealed their concerns that not only had Operation Julie been the preserve of some not very competent senior officers with massive egos who liked to think of themselves as supercops, but that the whole Operation had been conducted in secrecy without the knowledge of or scrutiny of anyone else. Dick Lee had created exactly what he and his mates had dreamed of – an ‘elite’ squad independent of the rest of the force, answerable to no-one.

In 1976 a man working with children was found guilty by Talgarth Magistrates Court (Talgarth is near Brecon) of two counts of indecent assault on boys from the Bryn Alyn Community.

Although in Dick Lee’s opinion Richard Kemp was Mr Big, even after the police put him and his friends at Plas Llysyn under intense surveillance they didn’t find the sort of evidence that one would have expected to find in world leading LSD factories, although Neville Dunnett, a Home Office scientist and forensics expert, believed that the Plas was an LSD factory. Obviously the police found the animals who had all been tripping and the water from the cellar which was obliging enough to match samples of LSD in the possession of the police, but they didn’t find much else – until on the day of the big swoop in March 1977 when they did dig up some LSD making equipment from a well at Plas Llysyn. The police didn’t actually manage to even find much LSD in their first raid on Kemp’s house in March 1977, the date on which Julie conducted simultaneous raids on 87 homes across England, Wales and the Dordogne. It was only when they raided Kemp and Christine’s house again in Dec 1977 that they found £1000 cash in a package and a plastic box containing the mind-blowing quantity of LSD  that confirmed that the biggest LSD factory in the world was down at Tregaron run by the boyfriend of a doctor who bred goats.

The biggest LSD factory in the world certainly took some detecting. The surveillance equipment used to maintain a 24 hour watch on Richard Kemp and Christine Bott was top of the range stuff and had been supplied by the security services at Whitehall.

The centre of the action may have been in mid-Wales dangerously near to all those corrupt professionals who had a thing about hippies – whilst the corrupt professionals within spitting distance were afforded protection by the security services and the Home Office as they facilitated a paedophile ring with links to organised crime dealing in child prostitution, porn, drugs and trafficking – but the identities and backgrounds of some of the senior officers involved in Operation Julie is more than enough to ring alarm bells.

Stephen Bentley was plucked from the Hampshire Drug Squad to work on Operation Julie. He had grown up on Merseyside and before joining the Hampshire Drug Squad he had worked as a police officer in the Merseyside/Lancashire area. Bentley’s book mentions the most extraordinary situation involving the South West Lancashire CID Task Force before he went south  – they had set up their temporary HQ in Knowsley Hall, a stately home near Liverpool, the family seat of the Earl of Derby. Bentley explains that allowing the police to use Knowsley Hall as their HQ assisted the 18th Earl of Derby with the financial strain of the upkeep of his house. Earl Derby aka Lord Edward Stanley soon found a longer term solution to his financial problems – in 1971 he created Knowsley Zoo and Wildlife Park in the grounds of the house. Bentley does not tell us whether anyone questioned whether it was right and proper for the police to be camping out in someone’s stately home whilst they conducted enquiries.

Lord Edward Stanley was Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, 1946-51 and Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, 1951-68. He was Pro-Chancellor of Lancaster University, 1964-71. Lord Stanley was Director of Martin’s Bank – as well as a Director of Granada Television.

There was a TV documentary made about Operation Julie, ‘from the police perspective’. It was made by Bob Mahoney for Tyne Tees TV.

So Dick Lee from Scotland Yard persuaded the Home Office and the ACPO to set up Operation Julie after the discovery of those scraps of paper in Kemp’s car. Bentley admits that in the mid-70s ‘corruption was rife in certain departments and squads’ of the Metropolitan Police. After Operation Julie, Lee left the police force and became a freelance journalist. Well after all that glowing publicity surrounding the hefty sentences handed down to those who were about to poison the country’s drinking water and addle the brains of our youth, Dick Lee was far too famous to waste his time being a policeman. Other members of the police force were critical of his published work, suggesting that the content compromised police operations.

In 1977 one of the venues used to hold the briefings regarding the Operation Julie raids was the fifth floor of Tintagel House at Lambeth, a building which housed some departments of the Met. The Flying Squad and other CID departments were excluded from the Tintagel House briefings, although Stephen Bentley mentions that the SPG (Special Control Group) attended ‘in force’. The SPG were the contingent from the Met who took advantage of their position to violently assault ethnic minorities and lefties. In 1979 one of the officers from the SPG succeeding in killing Blair Peach, a teacher who was on an anti-NF march. The officer was did this was never publicly named let alone charged although other members of the SPG admitted that they knew his identity.

The ‘nerve centre’ of Operation Julie was established at Devizes, in the HQ of the Wiltshire Constabulary – the hub of the operation later moved to Swindon. It has now been admitted by his Tory colleagues that Sir Peter Morrison, Tory MP for Chester, 1974-92 and an aide to Margaret Thatcher, was abusing children. Morrison was known to have abused children in children’s homes in north Wales. Peter Morrison’s father was John Morrison, the 1st Baron Margadale, Conservative MP for Salisbury, 1942-65, whose family seat and estates were in Wiltshire. John Morrison was Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, 1969-81. Lord Lieutenants tend to spend time with Chief Constables among other people. Peter Morrison’s elder brother Charles managed the family estates and in 1964 was elected as Tory MP for Devizes. He remained MP for Devizes until 1992 and was a friend and supporter of Ted Heath. Charles had been influential in Wiltshire before he became their MP – in 1958 he became a member of Wiltshire County Council and he Chaired the Education Committee, 1963-64. Charles Morrison’s wife was related to Ian Fleming by marriage and an article that Ian Fleming wrote entitled ‘To Westminster With Love’ opened with the words ‘Charles Morrison – Licensed To Kill’. Well somebody certainly was and it wasn’t a bunch of hippies in mid-Wales. Charles and Peter’s sister, Mary Morrison, has been Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth II for over fifty years.

Detective Superintendent Dennis Greenslade was drafted into Operation Julie from the Regional Crime Squad based in Bristol – Bentley remembers that Greenslade too was very unpopular – and Greenslade’s colleague from Avon and Somerset Police, Detective Chief Inspector Herbert also worked on Operation Julie. Greenslade was another officer who supported the creation of a national drug squad. The drug squad in the West Country during the 70s and 80s conducted themselves pretty much as the drug squad in North Wales did – dope smoking hippies and teenagers were pursued by the police and treated as serious criminals whilst far more serious crime was ignored. I knew of corruption in the drug squad in both Bristol and Taunton at the time of Operation Julie. Two corrupt drug squad detectives in Taunton were demoted and ordered to go back into uniform as plods on the beat, but they still managed to have the family of a local school girl who had been wrongly accused as a result of a school teacher’s idiocy threatened at gunpoint – whilst the man with the gun did this, he made a reference to the unsolved murder of a housewife from Bath, Mrs Beryl Culverwell. I also knew of a police constable from Bristol who was thrown out of the force for dealing in heroin but was quite miffed about this because he maintained that the other officers who had been doing it with him had all remained in the force. I knew of someone else who was arrested for the possession of cannabis, taken to Bridgwater Police Station where he was assaulted and then had his own cannabis sold back to him by the police. The Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, 1974-79 was Kenneth Steele.

Whilst Kenneth Steele and his officers were pursuing school children and threatening to murder members of their families, they accused Norman Scott of shooting his own dog as a publicity stunt after John Newton – the hit man who told the Old Bailey in 1979 that he had been paid by Jeremy Thorpe to kill Norman – killed Norman’s dog and then tried to kill Norman but was prevented from doing so when his gun jammed (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’).

There is a further link with Jeremy Thorpe mentioned by Stephen Bentley. Bentley talks about a lady called Pam who owned a house in the locality under observation and rented it out to some of the Operation Julie officers. Pam also had a home in Bayswater in London at Orme Square – Jeremy Thorpe was Pam’s neighbour. Pam had celeb connections by marriage – she was the ex of John Mayall who had been in a band with Eric Clapton. My post ’95 Glorious Years!’ explains how a great many very unpleasant things happened to Francis Ormsby-Gore in a way that leads me to suspect that he may have been targeted by the paedophiles’ friends. Francis’s sister Alice died from a heroin overdose – she was the former partner of Eric Clapton. Clapton has admitted that he treated her appallingly, as well as introducing her to the joys of heroin addiction, only to give it up himself leaving her in a mess.

Bentley mentions connections to other celebrities that I have previously heard had used those abused and trafficked by the paedophile gang in north Wales and he also mentions meeting Michael Wilding junior, the son of Elizabeth Taylor, at a party near Devil’s Bridge a few miles away from Aberystwyth. The interesting thing about rural Wales is that although it was and is sneered at by those who imagine themselves to be metropolitan sophisticates a cut above the sheepshaggers, Wales is quite nice really and the people who make derogatory comments about its permanent inhabitants do nonetheless like to make visits to Wales or to even acquire a second home there. Among those people there was always a cohort who liked taking drugs and having sex with much younger people who were poor and not in the least bit famous.

Whilst dealing with Pam, Bentley discovered a few things familiar to anyone who has had been on the receiving end of the paedophiles’ friends: that the police in Wales are very strongly influenced by Freemasonry and that this exerts a corrupting force upon them; that police business is openly gossiped about and discussed with other people who are not police officers in a way that it shouldn’t be; and that often the wives of police officers know almost as much about police business as their husbands do. Bentley also discovered that Pam was very friendly with a police officer based at Lampeter Police Station whom Bentley felt could not be trusted and thus the Operation Julie team had no dealings with the police at Lampeter.

The biggest acid lab in the world in mid-Wales was alleged to be connected to another acid lab in Hampton Wick, Greater London, which was placed under surveillance by a police team from RAF Hendon in Oct 1976. The police maintained that these ‘two drug rings’ had begun as one organisation. They maintained that a Henry Todd – remember ‘a man called Henry’ whom Gerry Thomas had mentioned to the authorities in Canada? – had been the person handling the sales of the LSD produced in mid-Wales because the mid-Wales cohort were producing so much LSD that they couldn’t handle the sales by themselves. The police alleged that Todd and the ‘organisation’ had been based in Cambridge but had then set up one ‘ring’ in mid-Wales and had recruited an Andy Munro to work as a chemist in a house at Hampton Wick. Henry Todd was imprisoned for eight years.

David Solomon received a ten year prison sentence, despite there being very little evidence to link him with the LSD factory at all – he had actually been in New York throughout most of Operation Julie. It was Solomon’s conviction that enabled the police to tell the world that Kemp and Chrstine had connections with Timothy Leary – Dick Lee had actually spent a great deal of time trying to find evidence of this but couldn’t.

Stephen Bentley’s book mentions that Operation Julie also utilised the services of Detective Superintendent Gerry Squires from the City of London Police Fraud Squad in tracing the assets of those running the biggest acid factory in the history of the world. Assets did play a role in the trial at Bristol, but Bentley mentions links to profits in Vancouver from a heroin business and a group of doctors and lawyers who were providing the money to buy $3 million worth of heroin. I can’t find any mention of them being put on trial.

All branches of Operation Julie was either working directly in the locations where the paedophile gang based in north Wales and their friends were running their enormous well-oiled machine or very close by. Not only was Operation Julie involved in a surveillance operation in Wales, the heart of the paedophiles’ friends territory, but they were holding briefing meetings in Lambeth whilst Lambeth Borough Council’s social services dept had been infiltrated with paedophiles and whilst Lambeth were also sending children in their care into the clutches of John Allen ‘on placement’. Rob Evans, who was one of the managers of Gwynedd Social Services children’s homes under the regime of Ioan Bowen Rees in the 80s, had been recruited from the West Country where he had been a ‘team leader’.  Talgarth Magistrates Court, where a man had been found guilty of indecently assaulting boys from John Allen’s empire, was a short drive down the road from Brecon , the meeting point of the ‘supercops’ where they agreed to establish Operation Julie – the case at Talgarth happened in the same year as the discussions in Brecon.

I cannot understand how Operation Julie did not stumble across the paedophile gang that was operating in Wales – which dealt in drugs as well as in child sex – which only continued business unhindered throughout Operation Julie, but expanded their business. Perhaps Stephen Bentley and his colleagues did know about John Allen, Dafydd et al but Bentley just didn’t mention them in his book.

So who was Home Secretary whilst the police and the criminal justice system concerned themselves with wild animals who had taken LSD, whilst an absolute fortune was squandered on an investigation that imprisoned eccentric young people who at most were users of drugs themselves and small time dealers, whilst highly implausible evidence was found at convenient times and whilst clairvoyant police officers also seemed to know that there would soon be an incident involving Richard Kemp’s car in west or mid-Wales – an incident which when it happened involved the death of a young woman – yet ordered their officers on the ground not to go near a gang of very serious criminals who had colonised much of Wales?

The Home Secretary who agreed to set up Operation Julie on the basis of animals with a penchant for hallucinogens and Dick Lee’s psychic abilities was Roy Jenkins. Roy has starred on this blog recently and did a great many favours for the paedophiles’ friends (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I) – Jenkins had also been Home Secretary at an earlier time in the 60s under Harold Wilson when Bryn Estyn, one of the children’s homes in north Wales with some of the highest levels of child abuse, had been directly managed by the Home Office. The Home Secretary who was in office during most of the investigation whilst gangsters who killed some of their victims as well as some witnesses but were allowed to go about their business unhindered and while the flimsiest evidence – some of which was very obviously fabricated – was deemed sufficient to imprison people for years was Merlyn Rees. Merlyn was another man who was a loyal paedophiles’ friend (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’). Roy Jenkins was appointed by Harold Wilson and Merlyn Rees was appointed by Jim Callaghan.

Who was the DPP who approved the prosecution of people on the basis of the fantasies of some bent coppers? The DPP who was in place during the earlier fit-ups of the suspects will have been Sir Norman Skelhorn. Skelhorn was DPP 1964-77 and before he retired there was huge concern expressed in many quarters regarding the practices of the police and the sheer number of miscarriages of justice that seemed to be occurring. In 1972 Skelhorn had granted the bank robber Bertie Smalls, Britain’s first supergrass, immunity from prosecution in a deal described by the Law Lords as ‘unholy’. The criticism constantly levelled at supergrasses is that they may be tempted to tell a pack of lies and name innocent people in return for lenient treatment. Skelhorn has also found his place in history as a result of admitting that whilst he was DPP terrorist suspects in N Ireland had been tortured and told a meeting of Harvard Law School Forum – after it had been agreed by Heath that torture should not happen under any circumstances – that when dealing with ‘Irish terrorists’, any methods were justified. In April 1976 after Young Liberal Peter Hain was cleared of robbery at a branch of Barclays Bank, six Liberal MPs led by David Steel demanded Skelhorn’s resignation. I don’t suppose Steel et al could dish too much dirt on Skelhorn though – because there was the matter of the doings of Cyril Smith and Jeremy Thorpe to consider.

Sir Norman Skelhorn was an active Freemason.

Upon Skelhorn’s retirement, Merlyn Rees appointed Sir Thomas ‘Tony’ Hetherington as DPP and it will have been Hetherington who was in office when the later Operation Julie prosecutions were prepared. Hetherington remained as DPP until 1987 and became the first head of the CPS when it was formed in 1986. The CPS that subsequently refused to prosecute in so many cases connected to the North Wales Child Abuse Scandal or those child abuse cases involving Cyril Smith, Greville Janner and others. Hetherington did make the decision to prosecute Jeremy Thorpe however, although after that trial he might as well have not bothered (see post ‘My How Things Haven’t Changed’). Hetherington lied to two newspapers about never receiving police information concerning Cyril Smith. During his later years as DPP he oversaw a number of major changes introduced in the wake of concerns raised during Skelhorn’s incumbency eg. the introduction of PACE in 1984 and the creation of the CPS.

Hetherington was the son of a Top Doctor who was educated at Rugby and Christ Church, Oxford and was called to the Bar in 1952. He was the first DPP who was a career civil servant. He became part of the team supporting the Attorney-General and Solicitor General in 1962 and was head of the permanent legal staff supporting the Law Officers (A-G and SG), 1966-76. So Hetherington was the man behind Normal Skelhorn. He was appointed Deputy Treasury Solicitor in 1975. Which was when the Treasury Solicitor’s office was in the process of ruining Mary Wynch and illegally divesting her of her property (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’). As part of his mission to shine a light on the organs of the DPP, Hetherington allowed BBC Panorama’s team to film the DPP’s office at work. It was considered a very daring move, but I suspect that the BBC were happy to do their Lord Haw-Haw bit.

Hetherington was knighted in 1979. Which was the year that Thorpe was acquitted of conspiracy and incitement to murder. It was Hetherington who failed to prosecute any SPG officers after the death of Blair Peach.

The Attorney General, 1974-79, was Samuel Silkin. Silkin was a barrister from a well-known Labour family (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part I’). His father Lewis Silkin was the Labour MP for Peckham and a Minister in Attlee’s Cabinet, 1945-50 and his brother John Silkin was also a Labour MP and Cabinet Minister. John Silkin was very influential and at one point looked as though he would become leader of the Labour Party. Samuel Silkin retired in 1983 and was given a peerage in 1985. He Chaired the Society of Labour Lawyers.

The Solicitor General, 1974-79, was Peter Archer, a Labour MP for the West Midlands. Between 1967-70 Archer had been PPS to that good friend of the paedophiles Sir Elwyn-Jones whilst Elwyn-Jones was Attorney-General. In 1969 Archer was Britain’s representative on the UN’s ‘third committee’ on Human Rights. He was a founder member of the Amnesty International  Committee in 1961 and Chairman of Amnesty International’s UK section, 1971-74, as well as being a member in the Anti-Slavery Society. Archer was an extremely active member of the Fabian Society – he sat on the executive committee, 1974-86, was Chairman, 1980-81 and from 1993 until his death in 2012 he was President. He was also a leading figure in the Society of Labour Lawyers.

In his capacity as Solicitor General Archer authorised prosecutions in N Ireland.

Archer was close to Samuel Silkin when Labour were in opposition. When Silkin retired after Labour’s defeat in 1979, Archer was passed over for the role of Shadow A-G by one of the best friends that the paedophiles have ever had, former Secretary of State for Wales Lord John Morris. Peter Archer was Chief Legal Spokesman in Michael Foot’s Shadow Cabinet in 1981. In 1982 Archer became a Crown Court Recorder – he concentrated on his career at the criminal Bar after Labour’s defeat in 1970.

Archer was Shadow Secretary of State for N Ireland under Neil Kinnock, 1983-87. In 1986 he urged the reconsideration of the case of the Birmingham Six and in 1987 was not returned to the Shadow Cabinet.

Archer was a Christian Socialist and was always used as the living embodiment of ‘the Labour Party owes more to Methodism than to Marxism’ – Archer was very active in the Methodist Church in the Black Country and worked as a lay preacher.

In 1992, that excellent year for the paedophiles’ friends when so many good things happened for them including the murder of five witnesses by a petrol bomb just a few days after the General Election (see post ‘The Silence Of The Welsh Lambs’), Archer picked up a peerage.

In 1998 Blair appointed Archer to make recommendations concerning the claims from the families of Holocaust victims whose assets in Britain were seized – Archer Chaired the £25 million compensation fund. Archer also led the 2007 ‘Tainted Blood’ Inquiry.

There has been huge quantities written about Operation Julie, but because so much was written by journalists who had close connections with the police I haven’t spent time reading much of it. It is established that the police had a hotline to many media outlets and were able to ensure that the story that reached the general public was one of heroic cops sending down dangerous criminals who presented a threat to western civilisation. Stephen Bentley mentions going out boozing with Colin Willis, the showbiz editor no less of the Daily Mirror and the evening ending in a huge punch-up between Bentley and some other folk – imagine the headlines if the ‘hippies’ had done that and it had been witnessed by a journalist. The Earl of Derby who obviously had a very cosy relationship with the police in the north west of England was a Director of Granada TV. Lawrence Byford, the Chief Constable of Lincolnshire at the time of Operation Julie, had a son – Mark – who worked for the BBC and who eventually reached the very top of that organisation.

Most of the people who were convicted have since died without their stories being told, although Lief Fielding did write a book.

So I have no idea why the police and full forces of the Home Office descended upon Richard Kemp and Christine Bott in 1975. I remember that in the case of the Macguire Seven, the reason why someone named Annie Macguire as an IRA bomb-maker after being duffed up by the police was that it was such a ludicrous notion that they were sure that the police would never make anything stick and Annie would be safe. In the event the police convinced themselves and a Court that this respectable middle-aged woman who was a member of the Tory Party and had nothing to do with Republican activism or politics, was indeed running a bomb factory from her kitchen and employed members of her family, including a 15 year old boy, to assist her. Oh and Annie Macguire was sexually assaulted in custody as well. At the time the British press ran lurid headlines about Aunt Annie’s bomb kitchen. When Annie Macguire was released from prison – after years – the running theme of her story was that she had no idea that such things could actually happen in Britain. The Macguire Seven were convicted in 1976 – the Guildford Four and Birmingham Six were convicted in 1975. Perhaps Gerry Thomas named Richard and Christine in an attempt to give some information, any information, to the authorities in Canada, thinking that it was such a ludicrous notion that they were supplying the whole world with LSD that charges would never stick. Or perhaps Gerry Thomas was unscrupulous, knew how daft the authorities were, told them a load of poppycock in order to get himself a lighter sentence and didn’t care what the consequences were for anyone else.

At the trial in Bristol, Sir Henry Park lavished praise on the officers of Operation Julie and complimented them on their ‘intelligent handling’ of the material. Including presumably the evidence of the mole, the rat and the frog who had all been tripping. Between 1970-74 Henry Park was the Presiding Judge of the Western Circuit – he was very well known in the West Country and almost certainly knew the senior officers in the Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

My post ‘The Evolution Of A Drugs Baron’ describes how Dr Dafydd Alun Jones was actually given the remit to provide ‘substance abuse services’ in north Wales via his charity CAIS, upon whose Board sits some of the people named in the Waterhouse Report as failing to respond to the presence of a paedophile ring in north Wales, although they were senior managers in the social services.

Dafydd set up CAIS in 1977. In the 1972 the Chief Constable of North Wales Sir Philip Myers was the police’s representative on the Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs.
