‘O. Jones, O. Jones’ is the title of a 1970 novel by the Welsh Top Doctor and poet Dannie Abse. Among Abse’s many other works was the 1990 collection of poems, ‘Remembrance of Crimes Past: Poems 1986-1989’. Dannie Abse achieved much greater fame as a poet than he did as a Top Doctor, although he worked as a Top Doctor in a chest clinic for much of his life. Dannie was the younger brother of Leo Abse, the Labour MP for Pontypool and then Torfaen, 1958-87 and the psychiatrist Wilfred Abse, who emigrated to the US when still quite a young man.
Leo Abse has already featured a great deal on this blog. The Abses were a Jewish family from Cardiff and a great many of the extended family were Top Doctors and lawyers; Leo’s own father Rudolf was a solicitor who owned and managed a small cinema in a slum area of Newport. Leo Abse was a bent lawyer who was a very, very unpleasant man. He was bright and had a lot of energy but he was the George Carman of south Wales in that people feared him and did not tangle with him. Leo Abse was a close friend of George Thomas and boasted of his success in ‘persuading’ people to drop complaints about Thomas’s sex offending by either paying them off – in one case Abse paid a witness to begin a new life in Australia – or threatening to stitch them up and have them imprisoned. Abse also ensured that bad PR re George Thomas did not hit the media. When in 1984 George Thomas was hospitalised with an STI and in despair because he feared that he was about to be exposed, he summoned Abse to the hospital in the middle of the night and Abse arranged for the press to be told that Thomas had ‘waterworks’ trouble. I don’t know which hospital was caring for Thomas, but the Top Docs colluded with Abse’s media management; the whole of the NHS in Wales were colluding with George Thomas anyway, it was why there was such a cosy relationship between the Top Docs and George Thomas which manifested itself in Thomas’s medical charidee work. See previous posts eg. ‘It Wasn’t On Our Radar’ and ‘The Great Stink’ for further details of George Thomas and the scale on which Top Docs and others rearranged the furniture in order to ensure that Thomas’s offending, even his rape of a 10 year old boy, never led to charges or even became public.
George Thomas was known to frequent small backstreet independent cinemas for sexual liaisons with young men and boys, whether they were consenting or not.
It was in 1984 that Dr D.G.E. Wood began overtly threatening Brown and me to withdraw our complaint about Gwynne the lobotomist. Gwynne, Dafydd, Wood et al were part of George Thomas’s network, as was Professor William Assher, the Top Doc from Cardiff who, after Professor Oliver Brooke of St George’s Hospital Medical School was jailed for the possession of child porn in Dec 1986, was called upon by the big boys in London to take over as Dean and then Principal of St George’s. Ollie was a key figure in the pan-European paedophile ring which that lot were part of and the distress flares were going up everywhere. The Dean of St George’s in post when Ollie was convicted was deposed and the public were reassured that Ollie was one lone sad git and The Matter Had Been Dealt With. Ollie’s mates were all still at St George’s running the gang and Asscher, Mr Big in south Wales, was recruited to ensure that the gang was able to carry on business as usual in south London.
In April 1986 the gang killed my house-mate Anne.
In 1986 Cherie Booth was working as a barrister in George Carman’s Chambers. Her husband Miranda, a former pupil of Carman’s, had been elected as the Labour MP for Sedgefield in June 1983, when Mary Wynch was getting ever closer to the Master of the Rolls with her legal case against Dafydd and the gang. Sedgefield was a constituency in Durham, which was the location of a trafficking ring in the north east of England with links to Dafydd’s gang and who supplied Dafydd’s gang with staff and children.
It was in 1983 that Dafydd’s mate and umbrella Professor Robert Bluglass wrote the new Mental Health Act to reassure everyone that after Mary Wynch’s case, It Could Never Happen Again. So when I complained about Dafydd doing it all over again in 1986-87, despite Bluglass’s brand new Mental Health Act, it was Bluglass whom the Medical Ombudsman for the Welsh Office – Professor Robert Owen, another mate of Dafydd’s – asked to investigate my complaint. Bluglass failed to investigate most aspects of my complaint and er concealed Dafydd’s criminality. See post ‘Enter Professor Robert Bluglass CBE’.
Leo Abse knew Greville Janner, the Cardiff-born barrister and Labour MP for Leicester North West and then Leicester West, 1970-97, who was involved with the paedophile gang in the Leicester area, which had links with Dafydd’s gang and was being concealed by the Top Docs as well as many others. Greville’s dad Barnett Janner had preceded Greville as the MP for the constituency. Barnett was a Jewish lawyer who was originally from south Wales and knew the Abse family. See previous posts.
After Brown and I refused to succumb to the threats of the Top Docs, from 1984 onwards a great deal of conspiring behind the scenes went on to nobble our career progress. Professor Stuart Hall and his chums ensured that Brown ended up doing his PhD with the Centre for Mass Communication Research at Leicester University rather than with Hall’s old mates at the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies, Birmingham University. Thus Brown ended up on the manor of Greville which led to much obstruction and many adventures. See post ‘Life In Cold Blood’. I went to live with Brown in Leicester after I finished my MSc at Hammersmith Hospital/Royal Postgraduate Medical School in May 1987. Unbeknown to Brown and me, the Top Doctors at Hammersmith were of course part of the net, so I when I was at Hammersmith, I was offered what seemed at the time a good number with the Cancer Research Campaign at Nottingham University. However the labs were run by Professor Robert Baldwin, whom was known by all senior figures in cancer research to be mistreating staff and running a research fraud racket with an American drug company. See post ‘Oh Lordy, It’s CR UK!’. Because I had been offered the job at Nottingham, I moved into Brown’s house in Leicester, where we were placed under surveillance by MI5 and were targeted by those we know and love…
Just after the General Election of 1987, Dafydd et al had me arrested and charged when they invited me to north Wales on the pretext of discussing my complaint with me. They not only refused to discuss my complaint, they also made statements to the police alleging that I had tried to stab a junior doctor. The case fell apart because Jeff Crowther, a nursing officer from Ysbyty Gwynedd and Sgt Morgan at Bangor Police Station, didn’t tell as many lies as they were required to tell, so I was charged with a public order offence instead – under the legislation introduced by Thatch to criminalise striking miners, one could be prosecuted for pretty much anything – and my solicitor Alwyn Jones commissioned a Court report from Dr James Earp in Leicester (see post ‘An Expert From England’). Who was concealing the crimes of Greville et al and colluded with Dafydd and the gang in north Wales.. Alwyn I have now been told was Of The Gwerin, but he would have been deeply compromised anyway because his wife was employed as a lawyer with Gwynedd County Council. See previous posts.
Leo Abse attended Howard Garden’s High School in Cardiff and then the LSE where he studied law, in the late 1930s or early 1940s. Having joined the Labour Party in 1934, Leo clandestinely visited Spain during the closing months of the Spanish Civil War in 1939.
During WW II Leo Abse served in the RAF. He was in Cairo in 1944 when some of the British military personnel stationed there set up a “Forces Parliament” in which they debated the structure of society that they wanted to see in the post-war world. Abse’s left-wing views were fully in tune with the majority opinion among the lower ranks at its meetings, but the existence of the “Parliament” disturbed the senior officers. When Abse moved a motion supporting nationalization of the Bank of England he was arrested and the Forces Parliament was forcibly dissolved.
After the end of the war Abse set up in practice as a solicitor in Cardiff. In 1951 he established his own law firm, Leo Abse & Cohen, which eventually grew to be the biggest in the city. Leo Abse was also elected as Chairman of Cardiff Labour Party for two years from 1951, relinquishing the post when he was elected to Cardiff City Council. Cardiff City Council was riddled with corruption of which George Thomas and the Top Doctors were a part and this remained a serious problem years later, when the tentacles of corruption permeated the National Assembly for Wales. See eg. posts ‘More Than Politics And Local Government’, ‘The Battle Of The Cowshed’ and ‘Criminals Are Getting Away With It’.
Leo Abse and his mates networked among the Jewish community, among the Top Doctors and of course among the legal profession, no matter what their politics. Leo Abse knew Tory barrister Michael Howard, who was Home Secretary, 1993-97. Howard was born Michael Hecht in Gorseinion, Swansea and was the son of Bernat Hecht, who was born in Romania and came to Britain in 1939. Howard’s mother, Hilda (Kershion), lived in Wales from the age of 6 months. Both of Howard’s parents were from Jewish families. It was Michael Howard who as Home Secretary finally ruined Mary Wynch, although Mary had by then won every part of her legal case (see post ‘The Mary Wynch Case – Details’). In 1975 Michael Howard married the former ‘model’ Sandra Paul who had previously been at the centre of the celebs who were sexually exploiting the kids and young people provided by Dafydd’s gang. Sandra’s first husband was the jazz pianist Robin Douglas-Home, the nephew of former PM Alec Douglas-Home. At the time of his divorce from Sandra, Robin was having a relationship with Lilibet’s sister, Ma’am Darling. Robin later killed himself after suffering from serious depression.
‘Now don’t you worry my dear, we’ll look after you. Unless you are in a position to name names of course. Past bedfellow of Ma’am Darling you say? Ooh how glamorous! Er, do you know I think that there’s a bit of a waiting list for Care at the moment. You’ll be OK though, I can see that…’ ‘Next patient please…’

Prison works! But not for bent lawyers and Top Doctors running sex abuse gangs obviously, that is why Dafydd et al were never charged, convicted and jailed, although anyone who found themselves making complaints about them was arrested or found dead having ‘committed suicide’. I was repeatedly arrested and charged when Michael Howard was Home Secretary. Those members of Dafydd’s gang who made allegations against me were demonstrated to have perjured themselves but no action was ever taken against any of them, although throughout it all there were various investigations and inquiries underway with regard to a possible ‘VIP paedophile ring’ operating in north Wales/Cheshire.
Mr Howard – can I have my compensation cheque please? Unlike the Bryn Estyn boys who made those scurrilous allegations about those who tried so hard to help them, I am not a ‘drug addict’ and I have never been in prison. I have 10,000 documents demonstrating perjury and conspiracy on the part of the NHS, the police force, the CPS, the judiciary, the criminal justice system, the social services and other people. You owe me a great deal of money Howard, even in terms of the paltry offers made to those who have been the victims of state abuse, believe me, you owe me millions… Cough up you worthless corrupt bastard and when you do, remember all of those who died at the hands of a criminal gang whom you actively assisted. Furthermore tell your ageing dipstick of a wife, the former ‘model’ who tried to resurrect her career in the 1990s by promoting sad clothes for M&S – who have enjoyed a very cosy relationship with the Top Doctors who facilitated Dafydd and the gang – to make a statement about all those young people who were forced to provide sexual services to predatory celebs and aristos by Dafydd et al.
- But Sandra’s so glamorous!
- ‘Ewe know Dr DA tried to help them, ooh he tried ewe know, so many people tried, but…’
Leo Abse entered the Commons after winning a by-election in 1958, as a result of the then Labour MP for Pontypool, Granville West – who like Abse was a solicitor – being awarded one of the first life peerages in 1958, when Clement Attlee was PM. Unusually for a town in the South Wales valleys at that time, the NUM was not in control of the nomination of West’s successor as Labour candidate, since Pontypool was a centre of the railway industry. Abse won the candidature and then won the seat.
Daniel Granville West, Baron Granville-West established a successful solicitors’ practice, guided by Welsh Baptist principles and became a leading socialist after WW II. Baptised at the Tabernacle English Baptist Church, Monmouthshire, West remained a dedicated member all his life. Prominent in the Labour Party in opposition during the Gaitskell period in the 1950s and early 1960s, he remained ‘committed to law and order in Wales’ – like a friend of Silvio Berlusconi’s who was Tough On Crime And Tough On The Causes Of Crime! – and the nationalisation of the rail industry. Granville was horrified by the legacy of Imperial decline which he blamed for growing unemployment in the valleys.
Granville West was educated at Newbridge Grammar School and studied law at the University College of Wales, which became Cardiff University. Early in his years as a solicitor, West worked in a successful practice in Newbridge and Pontypool, Chivers and Morgan Solicitors and this acted as a financial and legal springboard for his political career. A strong Baptist tradition continued to have a significant presence in the Liberal and Labour parties during the early part of the 20th century. Granville West was an advocate of Nonconformist education as a Sunday School superintendent and in his practice he was the solicitor to Monmouthshire Welsh Baptist Association. West gained political experience between the wars on Aberdarn Urban District Council, 1934-38 and when WW II broke out, Granville West was already a prominent local personage, serving as a Councillor on Monmouthshire County Council, 1939-47. During WW II, West served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, being promoted to Flight Lieutenant.
After the war ended Granville was demobilised and returned to the legal profession. He was rejoined by partner Emrys Morgan, forming the firm Granville West and Morgan. Encouraged by the Attlee Gov’t to seek a seat in Parliament, West alighted on Pontypool because his solicitors’ practice had taken over Harold Saunders’ practice in 1943, providing a unique opportunity in a safe Labour area.
West was elected as MP for Pontypool in a by-election in July 1946. He was appointed PPS to James Chuter Ede, then Home Secretary under Attlee, in 1950, but the next year Labour lost the General Election.
James Chuter Ede was a school teacher who was active with the NUT after WW II. George Thomas was also a school teacher who was active in the NUT after WW II. James Schuter Ede was the Labour MP for South Shields, 1935-64, on the territory of the ring in the north east of England who by the early 1970s were supplying Dafydd’s gang with staff, including Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth and children.
In 1965, Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth met at Ruskin College; Arnold was a part-time tutor and Howarth a student. Prezza, who ended up as Miranda’s Deputy PM, was a Ruskin student at the same time. See post ‘A Study In Tyranny’. By 1966 Matt Arnold and Peter Howarth were both working at the Axwell Park Approved School in Gateshead. Children were abused at Axwell Park. In May 1973 Matt Arnold was appointed Head of Bryn Estyn. Peter Howarth was appointed to the staff of Bryn Estyn in Nov 1973. On 9 June 1994 Matt Arnold died of an ‘unspecified blood disease’. Howarth’s trial for sexually abusing boys in care in north Wales opened at Chester Crown Court on 13 June 1994 and on 8 July 1994 Howarth was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. His co-defendant Paul Wilson was cleared on all charges.
The glamorous Sandra’s husband Michael Howard was Home Secretary at the time.
Miranda became Leader of the Labour Party on July 21 1994, the previous Leader John Smith having died at Bart’s on 12 May 1994, after Dafydd’s colleagues there ‘failed to revive’ Smith after a heart attack. Prezza, the former Ruskin student who had been the MP for Hull East since 1970 after gaining a degree at Hull University in 1968 and who originally came from Denbighshire in north Wales, was appointed Deputy Leader of the Labour Party on July 21 1994. A trafficking gang linked with Dafydd et al operated in Yorkshire and the gang had many links with Hull University. As any fule kno, Miranda only appointed Prezza, an Old Labour stalwart, as Deputy PM to placate the old school in the Labour Party. Or at least that was the official explanation for this ignoramus who couldn’t string a coherent sentence together being at the top of Gov’t.
No doubt a lot of people were a little surprised when the Fool On The Hull was selected as a Labour Party candidate in the first place, but they’ll need to ask Harold Wilson why that was. The Harold Wilson who was a big pal of Leo Abse’s mate George Thomas.
|The Lord Prescott|
After that business of Tracy Temple and then the autobiography in which Prezza discussed his eating disorder, it was assumed that his days as anything other than a light entertainment star were over. So imagine my surprise when on 21 Feb 2015 Prezza was appointed as SPAD to Uncle Harry’s nephew, who was at the time the Leader of the Labour Party.
Uncle Harry’s nephew’s dad Ralph had been a leading light in the New Left, along with many of those who taught at Ruskin; during the 1940s Ralph had studied at the LSE and he subsequently taught there, alongside so many others who later concealed Dafydd’s crimes and the Westminster Paedophile Ring. In 1972 Ralph was appointed Professor of Politics at the University of Leeds. I was told yesterday that Ralph was one of those leftist academics who assisted Stuart Hall et al in obstructing Brown’s career. See previous posts for more info about Ralph.
Numerous people at Leeds University were concealing Jimmy Savile and the gang in Yorkshire. Jimmy Savile was a visitor to Bryn Estyn. One boy alleged that Savile watched him gang raped. Uncle Harry was a Top Doctor at Guy’s who worked with many of those keeping schtum about Dafydd et al.
James Chuter Ede was closely involved in the drafting of the Butler Education Act and the Criminal Justice Act 1948 and he established the Lynskey Tribunal in 1948 to investigate allegation of corruption among Ministers and civil servants. In 1964 James Chuter Ede left the Commons and was created a life peer as Baron Chuter-Ede, of Epsom in the County of Surrey. Just as the Scourge of Corruption In High Places bagged his peerage, this man was given a job as a consultant psychiatrist at the North Wales Hospital Denbigh and was given responsibility for the women’s wing of the institution which at the time had hundreds and hundreds of female patients:
‘Ewe know he tried so hard to help them but they did keep smoking mari-jew-ana and it wasn’t good for them…’
Dafydd’s boss at Denbigh was Gwynne the lobotomist, who continued carrying out lobotomies on patients long after most other institutions had ceased the practice and after the general public were told that lobotomies were no longer being carried out on patients at Denbigh. Most of those lobotomised at Denbigh were women. Of the medical records from Denbigh that are available, it is clear that the decision to carry out a lobotomy was based on the patient’s behaviour as documented by the records made by Angels. My own records from Denbigh, some of which were compiled by Angels who were employed there as long ago as the 1960s, repeatedly documented that my ‘behaviour’ was a problem, that I was ‘paranoid and aggressive’ and ‘hostile’ to Dafydd. No-one recorded that Dafydd turned up to see me at gone midnight when I was in bed. One Angel did make extensive notes expressing her concern that I had been unlawfully arrested and imprisoned by Dafydd after a ‘deal’ that he had struck with Superintendent Roberts at Bangor Police Station and that she did not want to be part of this. The Angel noted that she was told by Dr Neil Davies that she hadn’t broken the law, he and Dafydd had, all she had to do was to refuse to let me out. That Angel’s notes were ignored by everyone who ‘investigated’ my complaint and I only found out about them myself about five years ago. The Angel is now dead, she died in early middle-age, suddenly and unexpectedly in the care of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in 2002, just after Dafydd and the gang were trying to have me imprisoned for ‘threatening to kill Alun Davies’ on the basis of the perjury of some eight NHS staff. The case later collapsed; there was no investigation into the extensive perjury.
Before working in north Wales, Dr Neil Davies had previously worked in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. When I later asked why Dafydd had ever been appointed as my Top Doctor – because I had stated quite clearly that I wanted nothing to do with him – I was told that Tony Francis had ‘referred’ me to him. I was referred to Francis after I made a complaint about Gwynne the lobotomist. Many years later I found that Francis had documented to third parties that I was ‘dangerous’ and ‘very disturbed’ because of the ‘allegations’ that I had made about Gwynne Williams, ‘a deceased doctor’. My allegations were that Gwynne had propositioned me and I made the allegations when he was still alive. Everyone whom I approached, including the GMC, flatly refused to investigate my complaint about Williams, even the part re Williams lying and then rewriting medical records. The Chair of the GMC at the time was Lord John Walton, a psychiatrist and neurologist from Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Tony Francis, Neil Davies and Dafydd all worked in north Wales, at the North Wales Hospital. In the 1980s, if a patient requested a second opinion, they were referred to Dafydd, Tony Francis or Neil Davies.
They were running a sex trafficking gang and all of their colleagues knew it, as did those at the top of the GMC and the BMA.
I am waiting for an explanation British state. You had a great deal to say about Brown and me previously, I am waiting for your comments now. Twelve year old boys gang raped, children filmed while they were forced to have sex with animals…
As for ‘ooh there’s a Lady Doctor available now’, the Wimmin were fully on board with this as well, the Lady Doctors, the Angels, the social workers, the housemothers at Bryn Estyn, the Wimmin’s Champs in the Labour Party, except of course for that Angel who objected to Dafydd’s Deal, who was ignored and later died at the hands of her colleagues.
‘Ewe know, some of my colleagues would rrrap me on the knuckles for saying this, but if ewe drop that complaint about me, I would only have to have a word with my friend at Liverpool Medical School and I am sure that ewe would be offered a place.’
There were many quips made at the time by my friends and I that Dafydd’s colleagues wouldn’t have rapped him on the knuckles, they’d have had him struck off, but O Jones how naive we were! MI5 listened in to that call in 1987, they knew what Dafydd was doing as indeed did all those colleagues whom Dafydd thought might rap him on the knuckles and Dafydd is still on the Medical Register today. Years later when we began to realise some of what Dafydd was involved with, Patient F used to enjoy himself with suggestions that some of Dafydd’s colleagues would slap him on the buttocks… the bare buttocks…when Dafydd was wearing his baby doll nightie…
MI5 listened to that as well.
Er – anyone out there still listening in want to comment??? You haven’t done that brilliantly really have you M or C or X or Dame Stella Rimington or whatever you call yourself at the moment? Try TF – for TOTAL FUCKWIT. I don’t care how many of them there were TF, Brown and I could have done better than you lot, in fact we did, we told many people what we thought was going on and everything that we suspected turned out to have been correct. Although we didn’t know about the little boys and the involvement of Carlo, obviously. MI5 need to hurry up with that statement of theirs that they are very sorry…they’ve failed…they are on a journey because they are a learning organisation…
Next time MI5, instead of surrounding me with dipsticks in various disguises to waste my time and energy, please send someone compos mentis in possession of all that money that you owe Brown and me. And I’ll still never forgive you.
Dafydd will be no doubt be settling down with his original of ‘Octopussy’ and a slice of Bara Brith as I write. I’ll be starring in a new Bond film myself soon, ‘From Llangefni with Love…’
Glanville West was President of the South Wales and Monmouthshire branch of the Probation Officers Association. It was common knowledge in north Wales in the 1980s and 90s that the Probation Service were on board with Dafydd’s gang, but the Waterhouse Report details the backgrounds of some of the Ancients who were involved with Gwynedd and Social Services while the gang did whatever the pleased and some of the Ancients had worked with the Probation Service decades previously. The career of Geoffrey Parkinson in the Probation Service in Inner London (see post ‘Only One Died’) suggests that there was a substantial problem with corruption in the Probation Service as long ago as the 1950s.
Glanville West also served as Chairman of the Advisory Council on Civil Aviation in Wales. During the Suez Crisis he was strongly in favour of supporting Israel’s stance against Egypt proposed by the Eden Gov’t. In the House, Glanville West persistently asked questions about employment, the levels of unemployment, the jobless statistics and how the valleys might benefit from Development areas. He sought compensation for miners, their tenancies and National Assistance for pensioners.
On 12 January 1937 Glanville West married Vera, daughter of J.Hopkins of Pontypool. They lived in Abersychan, Pontypool and had a son and a daughter.
In 1958 West was one of the first three Labour nominees chosen by Hugh Gaitskell to be created a life peer. Lord Granville-West’s maiden speech on 26 November 1958 tackled the issue of the Welsh language in schools. He was a strongly committed Welshman, passionate about ‘Welshness’ and the rights of countrymen.
As was Dafydd, while he was procuring children to provide sexual services for English High Tories.
Yma O Hyd!
An advocate of industrial expansion in the South Wales valleys, Glanville-West opposed decline, promoting the cause of railway maintenance to the British Transport Commission. He hoped to attract new industries in the ‘white heat of technology’, having opposed the Beeching cuts. During 1970s industrial decline was accompanied by a shortage of decent housing. Lord Granville-West evolved into a moderniser supporting the enfranchisement of leaseholders to allow more working-class people to aspire to own their own home. Now who made that one of their flagship policies decades later?
The high profile Baptist Baron Granville-West died in Pontypool aged 80, in Sept 1984. In 1971 Dafydd made a speech to the Annual Meeting of the Welsh Baptists’ Union in which he told them that learning Bible verses in Welsh as a child can protect against a serious moral collapse in later life. See post ‘A Serious Moral Collapse’. Penrallt Baptist Church in Bangor was and still is a hot spot for Bangor University staff, Top Doctors and social workers. See previous posts. I know some very nice people who attend Penrallt but in the 1980s there were a great many people in that Church who were working and colluding with Dafydd and the gang and they undoubtedly knew how serious the criminality was.
Here’s an extract from the website of Glanville-West, Chivers and Morgan:
The firm was founded by Harold Saunders in 1904. In 1924, D. Granville West joined this practice to serve his articles. By 1929, D. Granville West had set up a practice on his own account in Newbridge. In 1943 he then took over Harold Saunders’ existing practice in Pontypool. Immediately after the War, Emrys Chivers returned to the firm from serving in the R.A.F., as a partner. We then became known as D. Granville West & Chivers.
Around 1950, D. Francis Dunford joined the practice, forming D. Granville West, Chivers & Dunford. The latter left the firm in 1962 to become a judge and in 1966, Ronald E.Y. (Ron) Morgan returned to the practice as a partner, having trained with us in the 1950s. The practice then gained the name by which it is known today – Granville-West, Chivers & Morgan. The hyphen in Granville-West was added when D. Granville West, who had been the Member of Parliament for Pontypool, became one of the first Life Peers, Baron Granville-West of Pontypool.
The Risca Office was established in 1980, with the Abertillery Office following in 1987. In the same year, Ron Morgan retired from the practice, but continued to practise separately as Chivers & Morgan until his death in 1998.
So Glanville-West’s pal Ron was around until after the Waterhouse Inquiry had heard evidence from the lying criminals of the children’s homes of north Wales to uphold the reputation of a network of old paedophiles who’s mycelia had penetrated all parts of polite society in the UK as well as much of polite society in other parts of the world.
Granville-West, Chivers & Morgan has taken over the practice of G. Edward Williams & Son in Blackwood to further enhance its presence in the Gwent Valleys. Granville-West, Chivers & Morgan has a proud tradition of service to the community. We act free of charge or at greatly reduced rates for a number of charities, churches and other institutions.
So that’s the potted history of Sue, Grabbit and Runn of south Wales.
Leo Abse is remembered for his natty dress sense and of course for the leading role that he played in the decriminalisation of homosexuality. In 1957, the Wolfenden Report had recommended that the law be changed to decriminalise consenting male gay sex, but the Gov’t had taken no action. Abse began to promote a Bill to put Wolfenden’s recommendations into law in February 1962. He kept pressing the issue and, after Humphrey Berkeley, the Tory MP for Lancaster, lost his seat in 1966, Abse became the main sponsor for the legalisation.
Humphrey Berkeley’s father, Reginald was the Liberal MP for Nottingham Central, 1922-24 and a noted playwright. Humphry Berkeley attended Malvern College followed by Pembroke College and was President of both the Cambridge Union Society and Cambridge University Conservative Association in 1948. His studies were interrupted when he was excluded for two years as a result of a practical joke in which he impersonated ‘H. Rochester Sneath’, the Headmaster of a rather odd public school, and wrote hoax letters to public figures. Berkeley knew Rab Butler, who arranged a job for him at Conservative Central Office during this time; Butler also advised Humphrey to keep the hoax letters and their replies safely, and publish them a quarter of a century later (the ‘Rochester Sneath letters’ were duly published in 1974).
Berkeley established his own PR company and became Head of Publicity and PR for a group of civil engineering companies. As a strong supporter of European union, Berkeley was Director-General of the United Kingdom Council of the European Movement, 1956-1957. In 1959, he was elected as the Tory MP for Lancaster.
Berkeley was a strong internationalist who supported the work of the UN; his father had supported the League of Nations. He served on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union and the Council of Europe from 1963. Berkeley was a member of the Howard League for Penal Reform and from 1965 the honorary Treasurer. That year he also drew up the new rules for election of the Leader of the Conservative Party. They might have been the rules under which Ted Heath was elected Leader in July 1965…
In 1965, Berkeley introduced a Bill to legalise male homosexual relations along the lines of the Wolfenden Report. According to a 2007 article published in ‘The Observer’, Berkeley was well known to his colleagues as a homosexual and not much liked. His Bill was given a second reading on 11 February 1966, but fell when Parliament was dissolved soon after. Unexpectedly, Berkeley lost his seat in 1966 and ascribed his defeat to the unpopularity of his Bill on homosexuality.
Out of Parliament, Berkeley took a job as Chairman of the UNA (United Nations Association). In this capacity he employed Jeffrey Archer to organise the UNA’s flag day collection. Despite barely increasing the previous year’s total, Archer was promoted to organise a dinner at 10 Downing Street, which raised over £200,000. Berkeley would later accuse Archer of having made false expenses claims whilst he worked for the UNA.
The former Deputy Principal of Bangor Normal College was an enthusiastic member of the UNA and was also involved in penal reform. Her family were leading Liberals in Wales and she personally knew Lady Megan Lloyd George. Just after I finished my PhD, this lady and her colleagues in the UNA organised a discussion day on the Dangers Of Drugs. The keynote speaker was Dafydd. Dafydd was scheduled to speak in one of the lecture theatres at Bangor University and I raised my concerns with the University authorities about the presence of Dafydd on the premises because of the misrepresentation of Dafydd’s position and experience on the UNA promotional material. The event was eventually cancelled by the UNA, but not before I received an e mail from a man called Tegai, who was a member of the UNA branch, which contained information about me which was not known to anyone in Bangor University and could only have come from Dafydd. It wasn’t anything horrifically sensitive which was why Tegai will have made the mistake; he had no idea that I would have known that the info could only have come from one person…
I am sure that dear old Dafydd told Tegai and co many more Interesting Facts about me which Tegai didn’t mention…
I’ve been told that the business of Dafydd’s proposed guest appearance under the umbrella of the UNA on that occasion was a team effort on the part of the gwerin. There’s a post coming soon in which you’ll all be named! Please don’t panic gwerin, I’m not Of You so I won’t be blogging the info that I was given about you under conditions of confidentiality, even if you used confidential information about me. Or indeed simply made up a pack of lies. Are you enjoying your coating of green slime? At least people will be able to see you coming in future, it’s certainly never going to wash off. As for that comment re what you were all going to do to the VC of Bangor University Merfyn Jones once his wife had died… How Lowe can you get? Well-dressed men? You haven’t got a clue, you might as well have all taken a leaf out of the book of Dr Duckula Morris and dressed in nylon slacks. You probably all agree with her that ‘Althusser is just a load of old rubbish really’.
Trending now: # Too thick for social theory.

In 1968 Humphrey had resigned from the Conservative Party, largely in opposition to its stance on Vietnam. In 1970, Humphrey joined the Labour Party and stood unsuccessfully as a Labour candidate in 1974. He then spent time working as a roving ambassador of the now defunct Republic of Transkei, until he was abducted one night in February 1979 while dining at the Umtata Holiday Inn, and assaulted on the side of a road, put into the boot of a car and dumped over the border at Kei Bridge.
Humphrey Berkeley found his true home in 1981 when he joined Dr Death in the SDP. He fought Southend East for them in 1987. In 1988 with the SDP splitting over whether to merge with the Liberals, Humphrey rejoined Labour.
Although with the Labour landslide of 1966 there was a majority for Leo Abse’s Bill to decriminalise homosexuality, it was still vulnerable but Abse persuaded Woy Jenkins to give the measure Gov’t time, which eventually saw the Bill through onto the statute book. Abse knew that Woy was a bisexual swinger who was colluding with Dafydd and the Westminster Paedophile Ring and may have been part of it himself.
In 1968 Abse was appointed to a Home Office Advisory Committee on the penal system. He was elected Chairman of the group of Welsh Labour MPs in 1971. Abse was chosen as Chairman of a Select Committee on abortion, 1975-77. His report advocated restrictions on abortion, including a lowering of the time limit within which abortion was legal from 28 weeks. Abse fought in the House of Commons for the enactment of his Committee’s recommendations and continued the fight in 1980 when the Conservative MP John Corrie proposed a Bill along similar lines; Abse refused to compromise on a limit of 24 weeks.
Abse was one of the ‘Gang Of Six’ group of Welsh Labour MPs who were opponents of devolution when it was proposed in the late 1970s. Another member of the group was the Windbag. There was a great deal of enmity between these MPs and the pro-devolution MPs. See post ‘News From Sicily’. One of the reasons why Abse opposed devolution was that he thought that some in Wales, whom he called “fanatics”, wanted to use it to promote the use of the Welsh language. George Thomas also had a major problem with anyone who dared speak Welsh. Although their mate Dafydd is first language Welsh and his minion Meri Huws was Chair of Cymdeithas, then Chair of the Welsh Language Board and is now the Welsh Language Commissioner.
# No fucking principles at all. Just a gang of paedophiles.
Abse was briefly Chairman of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee when it was first set up, but resigned in November 1981. Abse added to his reputation for taking maverick stances by strongly urging that British forces be withdrawn from N Ireland. He opposed nuclear power and weapons and criticised Thatch for insisting that Argentina unconditionally surrender over the Falklands. Abse supported British membership of the European Communities. His support for liberal divorce laws led him to propose a new ‘child-centred’ divorce reform in the early 1980s; the Bill was piloted by Martin Stevens, Conservative MP for Fulham.
What has received rather less publicity than the noble hero Leo Abse fighting for gay rights and divorce law reform is Abse virtual single-handedly achieving the Children Act 1975, which resulted in hundreds of kids in care being placed in children’s homes in north Wales. Abse began preparing the ground for the Children’s Act in the late 1960s, just as John Allen took out the lease on the building which became the Bryn Alyn Community. Abse wined and dined with Jim Callaghan, the then Home Secretary and Callaghan’s wife Audrey, who were both colluding with organised child abuse, including that carried out by Abse’s pal George Thomas. It was as a result of Abse’s efforts that the Houghton Committee was set up to ‘review’ matters re kids who were not cared for by their families. The Houghton Committee took evidence from Dafydd’s friends and colleagues and on the basis of this recommended a change in the law re kids in care. Because Labour were out of office between 1970 and 1974, Abse was delayed a little with regard to successfully changing the law, but once Labour was elected in 1974, Dr Death very kindly sponsored a Private Member’s Bill at old Abse’s request and the Children Act 1975 came into being. See post ‘Cry, The Beloved Country’ for further details.
The kids who were placed in the hands of a gang of paedophiles as a result of the Children Act 1975 were dependent upon the Welsh Office to ensure that standards and care in the children’s homes were acceptable. The Waterhouse Report admits that there was a total dereliction of duty on the part of the Welsh Office with regard to this; the Welsh Office failed to regularly inspect most of the children’s homes in north Wales, even when staff were convicted of assaults on children and the most serious complaints were made. The Welsh Office became responsible for the health and social services in Wales when George Thomas was Secretary of State for Wales, 1968-70.
That is why this is categorised as serious ORGANISED crime…
John Allen took the lease out on the building which became the Bryn Alyn Community in 1968, which was when Leo Abse got busy with children’s legislation.
Carlo became Prince of Wales in 1969. George Thomas was a big fan of the Royals Gawd Bless ‘Em and although Thomas was no longer Secretary of State at the time of the Investiture, it was Thomas who organised the song and dance that accompanied it.
The British state were so grateful that Carlo wasn’t blown sky high by Welsh Nash – although there was an attempt to do that – that the Top Cop who organised the policing, Sir Philip Meyers, was subsequently rewarded with the post of Chief Constable of North Wales, 1974-82. Myers presided over a deeply corrupt force who colluded with the organised abuse and criminality of Dafydd’s gang. After this triumph Myers then served as HM Inspector of Constabulary. See previous posts eg. ‘Top Of The Cops’.
One of the men who was involved in the plan to bomb the Investiture was banged up in Denbigh. He subsequently became friends with Dafydd and in the 1990s made TV appearances calling himself Rev, stating that Dafydd was the only person who knew how to deal with the Drugs Crisis In North Wales and that under no conditions should the North Wales Hospital Denbigh be closed because ‘Welsh boys and girls are going to prison in England’ for want of a hospital bed. Indeed, Welsh boys and girls were killing themselves in prisons in England because Dafydd et al had fitted them up, but the Rev, who wasn’t a Rev at all although he did acquire a dog collar which he wore on TV, didn’t mention that. Neither did the Rev mention that most of Dafydd’s ‘substance abuse patients’ were English men and women whom Dafydd had positively invited to north Wales from big English cities to buy drugs off of him (see eg. post ‘The Evolution Of A Drugs Baron?’).
The Rev’s daughter subsequently qualified as a social worker from Coleg Menai in approx 2004, although two members of Coleg Menai staff were so concerned at her false allegations and lies about being a social worker and demands to have people arrested and sectioned when she was a student that they declared that they would prevent her from qualifying. Their concerns were ignored on the grounds that the Rev’s daughter was a Welsh speaker and there is a shortage of Welsh speaking social workers. The Rev’s daughter became a social worker. Top Doctor Graham Thomas, a leading light in the BMA in Wales, admitted to me that he knew about the problems that the Rev’s daughter was causing in her capacity as a social worker what with her penchant for having innocent people arrested and sectioned.
# It’s the gang again.
The person who carried the bomb which was designed to blow Carlo to smithereens was also Referred to Dafydd and she later had her newborn baby unlawfully abducted by the staff of St David’s Laundry. I made friends with her in 2000 and Christ were there fireworks from the gwerin. She was found dead in her house not long afterwards when the gang were in the process of fitting me up for ‘threatening to kill Alun Davies’.
# Yes it’s them again.
Oh just deal with them someone. It’s a job for TF if he can only get his arse in gear and stop helping Dafydd.
Leo Abse wrote a number of books following retirement which drew very heavily on psychoanalysis. His volume Margaret, Daughter of Beatrice (1989), is a “psycho-biography” of Margaret Thatcher. In The Man Behind the Smile: Tony Blair and the Politics of Perversion (1996), Abse highlighted some of the aspects of Miranda that were later to be cited by Miranda’s opponents on the left. In Fellatio, Masochism, Politics and Love (1997), Abse drew attention to the fact that fellatio had been unspoken of a generation before but had since come to be seen as an essential part of casual sexual relationships. He analysed the tendency for men to engage in risky behaviour by placing their trust in women whom they barely knew and linked it to political developments.
Abse does make some interesting observations in his books – he argues convincingly that Thatch was substantially influenced in her values and politics by her grandmother with whom Thatch and her family lived for much of Thatch’s youth, something that no-one else really paid attention to – but his writing is at the same time terrifying. Abse is clearly a man who excels at using discredited psychoanalytic theory to excuse his own very worrying sexual interest in children as well as many other unpleasant aspects of his character and to analyse the most benign actions of other people in order to smear them. See post ‘A Peer, More Top Docs And News Round Up’. As I read Abse’s work I was reminded of some of the ‘medical records’ that Dafydd and Gwynne wrote about me. It was strikingly similar material.
Leo Abse has been investigated for historical abuse.
After Abse retired from the Commons his nomination for a seat in the House of Lords was vetoed by Margaret Thatcher. I have no idea why, she should have been very grateful to him because Abse’s involvement in the Westminster Paedophile Ring was one of the reasons why it didn’t all blow up in Thatch’s face.
A bust of Abse was unveiled at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff on 22 October 2009. The sculpture was funded by the firm of solicitors he founded, Leo Abse and Cohen and was made by Abse’s second cousin, the sculptor, Luke Shepherd.
Luke Shepherd’s website is currently advertising the work that he does re the training of surgeons. Luke holds courses for Top Doctors at Marylebone Road and in Devon. The ‘International Journal of Surgery’ published a paper by Luke which Luke publicises on his website. Luke’s website contains many other gems. He spent the first part of his life in south Wales but relocated to Dartmoor, where I think he still is. Luke has been commissioned to sculpt busts of Old Nick Edwards, Rhodri Morgan and George Thomas, as people whom Wales wishes to remember. Surely a double bust of Dafydd and Meri will soon appear in the Senedd? Luke has also created sculptures of Shiva, the Buddha and that other well-known deity, Billy Connolly. Luke set up a Tai Chi School in Exeter. There are ripe pickings in the Exeter region, because there’s a lot of Spiritual people in Devon these days, rather than farmers. Exeter University was one of the first institutions to collaborate with Professor Mark Williams’s Mindfulness fraud. Mark Williams is a former colleague of Dafydd’s (see post ‘The Biggest Expert Of The Lot’).
Luke’s website boasts of his links with the Welsh Arts Council and the Saatchi Gallery.
When Leo Abse stood down from the Commons, his seat was succeeded by Paul Murphy. Murphy was Secretary of State for Wales, 1999-02 and 2008-09 and it was in that capacity Murphy took receipt of the Waterhouse Report on 30 Sept 1999. When the Waterhouse Report was published on 15 Feb 2000, Murphy stated that he was delighted to be reassured that there was no VIP paedophile ring in north Wales, never had been and that the matter had been subjected to an exhaustive, transparent investigation.
Before becoming an MP, Paul Murphy had been a Torfaen Councillor – he was elected to Torfaen Council in 1973 – and knew Leo Abse well. Paul Murphy is a committed Roman Catholic and a Bachelor who has not been blessed with children himself. See previous posts.
Leo Abse married Marjorie Davies in 1955. They had two children: Tobias, who is a Marxist historian and Bathsheba. Marjorie died in 1996. Abse’s second marriage was to Ania Czepulkowska, in 2000, when Abse was 83 and Czepulkowska 33. Abse died on 19 August 2008. According to a newspaper report, he left his £1.2m estate to his second wife, with no financial provision for his children or grandchildren. Media interviews with Ania suggested that she was rather vulnerable when she met the elderly predator whom she later married and that Abse dominated her. Although she did bag all the dosh. See previous posts.
Dr. Tobias Abse was a history lecturer at Goldsmiths College, London University, 1994-16. Toby Abse has written extensively about the rise of the Fascist Right in Italy prior to WW II. He has been a member of the Socialist Alliance National Executive, the Alliance for Green Socialism National Committee, the Socialist History Society committee and the ‘Revolutionary History’ editorial board and is a regular contributor to UK socialist newspapers and magazines. Toby was educated at William Ellis School, Highgate and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1978. Whether Toby was on board with his dad I don’t know, he might have hated the old git and there was probably a very big scrap after the Last Will and Testament was read.
Leo’s brother Dannie’s autobiography ‘A Poet In The Family’ describes how one day in 1958 as a Nice Young Doctor, Dannie met up with the newly elected MP for Pontypool in London, his brother Leo. My how they marvelled at what the two boys from Cardiff had become!
Dannie Abse was born in Cardiff and attended Marlborough Road Primary School, where George Thomas was his teacher. In his autobiography Dannie remarked that George Thomas, despite being a high profile Methodist, ‘favoured’ Jewish children although Dannie does not suggest why that might have been. The Abse family were proud of their Jewishness but certainly had plenty of friends and contacts among other communities. Not only were they pals with George the Methodist, but Dannie then went to St Illtyd’s College, a Roman Catholic School in Cardiff and made lifelong contacts there. Paul Flynn, the Labour MP for Newport West since 1987, also went to St Illtyd’s. Paul Flynn stood as the Labour candidate for Denbigh in Oct 1974 and in the 1990s he appeared on ‘The Kane Debates’ on TV with Dafydd. Paul Flynn did contradict the rubbish that Dafydd was spouting about reefer madness but Paul Flynn has never spoken a word about Dafydd’s far more serious crimes. See previous posts for more on Paul Flynn.
Dannie Abse studied medicine. Dannie had no interest in this but at the age of 13 his older brother Wilfred, a Top Doctor and psychiatrist, ordered Dannie to do medicine and Wilfred put Dannie’s name down for Westminster Hospital Medical School, which was where Wilfred had trained. Before ‘walking the wards’ at Westminster ie. undertaking the clinical part of his training, Dannie undertook pre-clinical studies at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff and then at King’s College, London.
By Dannie’s own account, he didn’t do that well academically as a medical student and he couldn’t cope at all with pathology cases and the gory bits. However he grit his teeth – although at one point he planned to leave medicine, but his family, particularly Leo, pressurised him into remaining partly by reminding Dannie how much it had cost his father to keep him in London studying – and he qualified. During his years as a medical student, what Dannie did do a lot of was to write poetry and he found considerable success in the field.
Dannie might not have been a hot shot as a medical scientist, but he did what virtually all Top Doctors do at medical school, he made influential friends and contacts. Dannie made even more influential friends and contacts through his poetry and writing. Dannie also joined the Welsh Society at King’s College.
As a student at Westminster, Dannie was on the firm of Sir Adolphe Abrahams, who is considered to be the founder of British sports science. Abrahams was born in Cape Town in 1883, the son of Isaac and Esther Abrahams. He was educated at Bedford Modern School, 1891-99, at Bedford School and at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Abrahams was the medical officer in charge of the British Olympic teams, 1912-48. He was also President of the British Association of Sports and Medicine and a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
The Royal College of Physicians ‘Lives Of The Fellows’ Online supplies more information about Sir Adolphe. Some extracts:
…Abrahams’ clinical training was undertaken at St Bartholomew’s Hospital
Bart’s was a site of wrongdoing and the concealing of wrongdoing in the generation of the Top Doctors who trained Dafydd et al, ie. Sir Adolphe’s generation. One such Top Doctor was the father of Lady Juliet Bingley who was a surgeon at Bart’s; Lady Juliet worked as an almoner (social worker) at Bart’s. Lady Juliet and her son William Bingley colluded with Dafydd and the linked gangs throughout their entire careers but particularly so when they were in senior positions at MIND during the 1970s and 80s and in William’s case when he was appointed CEO of the Mental Health Act Commission in 1990; a Director of Morecombe Bay Primary Care Trust, 2000-06; then Chairman of North Lancashire NHS Primary Care Trust and Professor of Mental Health Law and Ethics at the University of Central Lancashire, 2000-04. Bingley ran an NHS consultancy which flogged ‘expertise’ to the NHS. His conflict of interest resulted in him having to resign as Chairman of the North Lancashire NHS PCT. Bingley was killed in a fatal accident when out fell-walking three weeks later, in 2011. With his wife Helen, William Bingley was also co-founder of the Abaseen Foundation, a charidee developing health care in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, formerly the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. S
Lady Juliet was married to Admiral Sir Alec Bingley, who after WW II served as Deputy Director of Air Warfare. He went on to be Chief of Staff to the Flag Officer (Air) and then Commander of the aircraft-carrier HMS Eagle in 1952. Bingley was appointed Fifth Sea Lord and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Air) in 1954 and Flag Officer, Aircraft Carriers in 1958. He was made Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet and NATO Commander Allied Forces Mediterranean in 1959 and then Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth and Allied Commander-in-Chief, Channel in 1961. Sir Alec retired in 1963. Bingley was one of those who served close to Lord Louis Mountbatten and knew about the associated scandals as well as the Gay Spies in the Admiralty etc. See post ‘The Defence Of The Realm’.
After qualification he undertook postgraduate study in Vienna.
Vienna was a hot spot for the Top Doctors of that era who had an interest in psychoanalysis who used their positions as psychoanalysts and psychiatrists to conceal organised abuse. Whether Sir Adolphe was doing anything related to psychoanalysis in Vienna I don’t know, but he will have met analysts while he was there.
Abrahams served in the RAMC as a medical officer, 1915-20, attaining the rank of Major. He was appointed to the consultant staff of Westminster Hospital in 1920 and was also for a time consultant physician to Hampstead General Hospital and to the Royal Chest Hospital. He became Dean of Westminster Hospital Medical School shortly before the opening of the new Westminster School in Horseferry Road, in 1939, at which time he was knighted.
Some months ago I read an historical account of a Westminster medical student who had been arrested after breaking into the nurses home, sexually harassing – and possibly indecently assaulting – one of the Angels within and helping himself to someone else’s purse. The lawyer representing him, one Ronnie Waterhouse, ensured that the Nice Young Doctor’s career was not adversely affected by a prosecution by thrashing out a deal with the Dean of Westminster Hospital Medical School. I am not sure if the helpful Dean was Sir Adolphe, but this is by no means the only anecdote that I have heard regarding appalling behaviour on the part of medical students of Dafydd’s vintage who should have been identified as far too irresponsible or indeed frankly dangerous to have been allowed to qualify. In that era, academic standards in medical schools were laughable – although that had changed by the 1980s – and once a medical student had begun training there really was almost nothing that they could do which would result in them not qualifying, although they were ferociously bullied and brutalised during their training.
Sir Adolphe was a general physician with a special interest in gastroenterology. He was also deeply interested in athletics and the training of athletes and was consulting medical officer to the British Olympic team on numerous occasions between 1912 and 1948. Abrahams’s written work was largely on gastroenterological subjects, exercise, physical fitness and the training of athletes. In his early years he was also interested in photography, especially that of moving objects, and in motoring.
Photographs eh?? Sir Adolphe could well have been photographing many things, but Dafydd’s mate Professor Linford Rees who held a Chair at Bart’s in the 1990s was renowned for livening up his lectures with photographs of ‘bathing beauties’ who happened to be his patients. See post ‘A Galaxy Of Talent…’. Whichever grim institution the bathing beauties will have had the misfortune to have been detained in will not have invested in bubble bath to have enabled the suds to have acted as a fig leaf a la TV adverts. The bathing beauties may not even have had the privilege of hot water and almost certainly were bathing in a communal area in full view of other people, as well as Linford and his camera.
Ah the doctors they were wonderful!
In 1928 Abrahams was Arris and Gale Lecturer of the Royal College of Surgeons and some years later Lumleian Lecturer, as well as Censor, of the Royal College of Physicians. For a time he was examiner in medicine in the Universities of Cambridge, Liverpool and London and President of the British Society of Gastroenterologists, as well as of the Section of Medicine, Royal Society of Medicine.
He was a physician of the old school to whom a detailed history and clinical examination were of basic importance and of more importance and interest than the results of laboratory investigations, which came last to confirm or refute the clinical diagnosis.
Sir Adolphe wasn’t one to worry about science…
His ward rounds were often enlivened by vivid, and sometimes caustic, comments to students but his detachment perhaps made rapport with patients less easy.
There’s the confession. He was a complete bastard who intimidated the students and was so cold and contemptuous that the patients hated him.
He was certainly an unforgettable figure, elegantly dressed in tail coat, monocled on occasion,
God knows what the patients thought.
- never in a hurry, and with an almost eighteenth century grace and charm; his knobbly hands in marked contrast to the rest. His face had a Dickensian look about it. He wrote his medical notes and opinions in microscopic script, always lucid and well phrased. A great reader, he once remarked how much he would enjoy a few weeks in prison, away from all distractions, so that he could devote himself wholeheartedly to reading.
If only someone had been willing to arrange it
- He did not care for holidays, which interfered with his well ordered life and reading and writing.
- Sir Adolphe the Gentleman Thug must have been the eccentric Top Doctor who rang Denbigh in the 1990s trying to get hold of Dafydd. When Dafydd’s secretary told him that Dafydd was on holiday, the caller replied ‘A holiday? A holiday? I’ve never heard of such a thing. I’m on duty 24 hours a day 7 days a week’.
- He was an excellent after dinner speaker and a considerable judge of food and wine, of which he partook sparingly.
So how did Raffles ever gain the expertise necessary to be a considerable judge of food and wine? Is this code for Raffles throwing hissy fits if he had been supplied with food which wasn’t up to his liking? It wasn’t that Raffles was the most dreadful old bugger, it was simply Raffles having a discerning palate.
The brother of a renowned athlete, he was no mean performer himself, and was often seen in middle age running round Regent’s Park. At a scientific meeting he showed a section of one of his own arteries, perhaps to emphasize the dissociation between structure and function.
Did Raffles perform an on the spot self-dissection??
In later years his hearing became impaired but even this, he said, had its compensations.
It was even easier to ignore the screams of horror and the many complaints.
On retirement from hospital work, his interests remained unabated and he spent a good deal of his time browsing in medical libraries. On Christmas Day he turned up regularly at his old hospital wards, impeccably dressed as usual, to watch with detached amusement his former junior colleagues, dressed in crazy garb, carve the turkey. ‘I could never do that’, he remarked.
Everyone would have known that Raffles and they probably wished that you’d stopped turning up to blight their Christmas.
He married Adrienne Walsh in 1922 and had one son and one daughter. His younger brothers were Sir Sydney Abrahams, PC, for many years Chief Justice in East Africa and Ceylon, who predeceased him, and Harold Maurice Abrahams, the Olympic athlete.
Raffles died in 1967, so he lived to see Dafydd launch his glorious career at the North Wales Hospital. Raffles will have known Admiral Sir Alec Bingley’s father-in-law, the surgeon at Barts…
Raffles acquired some interesting relatives via his younger brother Harold Abrahams. Harold Maurice Abrahams (15 December 1899 – 14 January 1978) was Olympic champion in 1924 in the 100 metres sprint, a feat depicted in the 1981 movie ‘Chariots of Fire’.
Harold Abrahams served as a lieutenant in the British Army. He attended Bedford School, Repton School and then Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, 1919-23. Abrahams then trained as a lawyer. At Cambridge, he was a member of the Cambridge University Athletics Club (of which he was president 1922–1923), Cambridge University Liberal Club, the Pitt Club and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Abrahams was also a member of the Achilles Club, a track and field club formed in 1920 by and for past and present representatives of Oxford and Cambridge universities.
At the 1924 Summer Games, Abrahams won the 100 m in a time of 10.6 seconds, beating all the American favourites, including the 1920 gold-medal winner Charley Paddock. In third place was Arthur Porritt, later Governor-General of New Zealand and Queen’s Surgeon. See previous posts for information relating to Arthur Porritt’s collusion with Top Doctors’ crimes and the role that his son Jonathan Porritt played in colluding with Dafydd et al. The Paris Olympics 100 m dash took place at 7 p.m. on 7 July 1924, and Abrahams and Porritt dined together at 7 p.m. on 7 July every year thereafter, until Abrahams’s death in 1978.
In May 1925, Abrahams broke his leg while long-jumping, ending his athletic career. He returned to his legal career. In 1928, he was team captain of the British Olympic team at Amsterdam and Editor of the Official British Olympic Report for the same games. Subsequently he worked as an athletics journalist for forty years, becoming a commentator on the sports for BBC radio. In 1936, Abrahams reported the Berlin Olympics for the BBC. Later in his life, Abrahams also became President of the Jewish Athletic Association, and served as Chairman for the Amateur Athletic Association(AAA).
Although not an official timer, Abrahams was present when Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile in 1954. See previous posts.
In early 1934, Abrahams met D’Oyly Carte Opera Company singer Sybil Evers. They wed in December 1936. Sybil Evers could not have children, so they adopted an eight-week-old boy, Alan, in 1942 and a nearly three-year-old girl, Sue, in 1946. During the Nazi regime and war, the Abrahams’s also fostered two Jewish refugees: a German boy called “Ken Gardner” (born Kurt Katzenstein) and an Austrian girl named Minka.
Evers died in 1963 at the age of 59 and Harold set up two awards in her name: the Sybil Evers Memorial Prize for Singing (1965–1995), an annual cash prize awarded to the best female singer in her last year at the Webber Douglas School of Singing and Dramatic Art and the Sybil Abrahams Memorial Trophy, presented each year from 1964 onward at Buck House by Phil the Greek, President of the British Amateur Athletics Association to the best British woman athlete.
Harold Abrahams was a keen Freemason.
Abrahams was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and into the England Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
Abrahams has been recognised with an English Heritage Blue plaque at his former home in Golders Green which was unveiled by his daughter Sue and nephew Tony Abrahams:
A plaque from the Heritage Foundation was unveiled at Harold Abrahams’s birthplace, Rutland Road in Bedford, on 8 July 2012. This coincided with the Olympic torch relay passing through the town.
In July 2012, plans were announced to erect a memorial to Abrahams in Telford to recognise that before the 1924 Olympics he won a gold medal in the 100-yard sprint at the Midlands Area AAA championships at St George’s Recreation Club ground. The memorial, in the form of a plaque, was unveiled by Abrahams’s daughter Sue in October 2014 in the lounge of the club, which now possesses the medal that he won at the event.
Abrahams’s daughter Sue married Pat Pottle. Pat Pottle was a founding member of the Committee of 100, an anti-nuclear group which broke away from CND. In 1962, at the height of the Cold War, Pottle was jailed for 18 months for conspiracy (as one of the Wethersfield Six) to organise the Committee of 100 demonstrations at the nuclear base USAF Wethersfield in Essex. In Wormwood Scrubs, Pottle met the Communist spy and double agent George Blake and Pat’s outrage at the “vicious” sentence imposed on Blake led Pat and two others, Michael Randle and Sean Bourke, help Blake to escape in Oct 1966. It was a few months after Blake had escaped that Pottle met and married Sue.
For most of his working life Pat Pottle was a printer, running his own Stanhope Press in the 1960s, working as printer for the Peace Pledge Union in the early 1990s and running his own Pottle Press in the late 1990s.
Pat died in Oct 2000 and his obituary in The Torygraph stated that:
‘Though Pottle and his co-conspirator Michael Randle were suspected [of helping Blake escape], the security services decided not to prosecute on the grounds that it might be seen as “persecution – that the big fish had got away so they were taking it out on the little fish”. The pair were only charged with aiding and abetting Blake’s escape in 1991, after they had written a full account of their involvement, ‘The Blake Affair – How We Freed George Blake – and Why’ (1989), and after Conservative MPs had demanded that the case be reopened.
Blake, a British intelligence officer, was found guilty in 1961 of supplying information to the Soviet Union. He was sentenced to 42 years in prison, one year for each British agent thought to have been killed through his treachery. It was the longest specified sentence in modern times.
Pottle and Randle met him and an Irish criminal called Sean Bourke in Wormwood Scrubs where they were serving sentences imposed in 1962 for conspiracy following the occupation of an American air base at Wethersfield, Essex, by supporters of the Committee of 100 (a breakaway group from CND).
In May 1966, after their release, Bourke approached them about springing Blake. In October Blake was helped over the wall by Bourke using a rope ladder. He was then hidden in various London flats by Pottle and Randle. In December he was smuggled to Berlin in a compartment hidden under the bunk of a camper van driven by Randle; he later surfaced in Moscow.
For years it was assumed that Blake’s escape had been masterminded by the KGB, but in the run-up to their trial Pottle and Randle secured the disclosure of MI5 papers which showed they had been suspected from the beginning.
In 1970 these suspicions were confirmed when Sean Bourke wrote a book about the affair in which he thinly disguised the names of the other participants as “Pat Porter” and “Michael Reynolds”. In 1987, Pottle and Randle were named in press reports as having been involved in the breakout. Still no action was taken.
At their trial at the Old Bailey, Pottle and Randle who represented themselves, argued that their motives had been humanitarian and that since the security services had known of their involvement but had done nothing until MPs demanded their prosecution, the trial was political. They were unanimously acquitted by the jury…
…In 1960 he joined the Committee of 100, a breakaway group dedicated to using civil disobedience to advance their cause. The following year he took over from Randle as secretary of the group after Randle had been jailed for his involvement in an anti-nuclear demonstration. Pottle participated in a number of demonstrations including a four-hour sit-in at the Soviet embassy.
In December 1961, when he was wanted by the police after the occupation of the air base at Wethersfield, he went into hiding. Only in February 1962, when he appeared at a press conference at Kingsway Hall in London, was Pottle arrested by Special Branch men. He defended himself and attempted to use the trial as a platform for his political beliefs. He, Randle and four other defendants were jailed for 18 months.
After his release, Pottle became secretary to the philosopher and disarmament campaigner Bertrand Russell. In 1964 he was put on trial in China and deported for “inciting the Chinese people to overthrow the state”. Later the same year he was deported from Greece after joining anti-nuclear demonstrations. Months later he was deported from Malta for organising an anti-nuclear demonstration there.
He co-founded the Vietnam Information Group in 1967, to help American deserters and draft dodgers reach Sweden on false documents. A year later he was arrested demonstrating in London against the Colonels’ coup in Greece. Later he organised demonstrations against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia.
In 1969, Pottle seemed to have grown tired of civil disobedience and with his family moved to Wales. There he went into business as an antiques dealer and ran the Pottle Press, printing leaflets for the anti-nuclear movement. Ten years later they returned to London.
Pat and Sue lived in Croesor and were friends with many of the radicals and bohemians who were there during the 1970s and 80s, as described in previous posts eg ‘The Village’. They were friendly with local people as well as with the ‘Welsh Bloomsbury Set’ and they will have known about Dafydd’s gang, who were making the life of the locals very difficult. Pat must have known that Bertrand Russell was an abusive man who was utilising the services of Dafydd’s network to put anyone who raised concerns about Russell’s conduct out of action (see post ‘So Who Was Angry About What?’). Sue and her friends did know about the con of appointing a ‘Welsh speaking social worker’ in the late 1960s for language equality purposes, who ensured that Gwynne and Dafydd found it even easier to bang up anyone who had spilt the gang’s pints, because they’d been assessed in their first language so OF COURSE the assessment was fair and yes they are definitely nuts and need to be locked up in Denbigh for decades without trial…
In 2011 Thomas Merfyn Hughes, a retired social worker who lived in Croesor, was found dead in someone else’s garden. His body was concealed from view and Mr Hughes had been dead for many, many hours before his body was found. I do not know if Mr Hughes was the Welsh speaking social worker of legend who simply made it even easier for Dafydd et al to abduct and imprison people who had spilt their pints, but in approx 2005, Mr Hughes was the manager of the thugs of the Arfon Community Mental Health Team and when they refused to hand over their file on me – which they should never have had because I had never been a ‘client’ of theirs – Mr Hughes kindly went to their office and retrieved it, giving me a copy. See previous posts eg. ‘A Particularly Worrying Death’. Mr Hughes had previously served as the election agent of Elfyn Llwyd, a solicitor and barrister who was the Plaid MP for Meirionydd Nant Conwy, 1992-2010 and Dwyfor Meirionnydd, 2010-15. Elfyn Llwyd was President of Gwynedd Law Society, 1990-91. It was always believed in north Wales that Elfyn Llwyd was an even bigger crook than the other lawyers in the region.
Yma O Hyd!
As Elfyn will know, because his wife Eleri is a Welsh songster. Did Eleri sing at Mr Hughes’s funeral then Elfyn? ‘Calon Lan’ perhaps? Or ‘I Am the Mob’ a la Catatonia?
I did know about Pat Pottle being put on trial for helping George Blake escape years after Blake had got away and Pat’s trial was famously farcical, but I’ve only just noticed the year that Pat was put on trial at the Old Bailey. It was 1991. The year that I and my friends who were witnesses to Dafydd’s criminality had our careers wrecked and the year in which the gang made two consecutive attempts to have me imprisoned on the basis of the perjury of Tony and Sadie Francis. One of my court appearances was at the Royal Courts of Justice at The Strand. So I was down from the Bethesda, in the Royal Courts of Justice, on ludicrous charges and Pat Pottle, who had only recently moved from Croesor, was up in the Old Bailey on ludicrous charges…
In Feb 1991 Lilibet knighted Peter Morrison.
Pat Pottle was someone whom it would have been known was aware of a great deal of what Bertrand Russell and his friends got up to and who assisted them. In 1991 the North Wales Police were midway through their investigation into the possible presence of a VIP paedophile ring in north Wales/Cheshire. The Chief Constable of North Wales refused to co-operate with the investigation and in 1992 the investigation stopped when the North Wales Police announced that there was no evidence of any paedophile ring.
The Westminster Paedophile Ring experienced a major panic in 1990, because Greville Janner and his mate the Leicestershire social worker Frank Beck – a Liberal Party Councillor – were hauled in and questioned by the police regarding the abuse of children in care. Janner’s solicitor Sir David Napley was so convinced that Janner would be prosecuted that he retained George Carman QC, George having established his reputation when he got Jeremy Thorpe off charges of incitement to kill and conspiracy in 1979. Beck was charged and remanded in custody. Janner was not charged and when he reappeared in the House of Turds after being interviewed under caution he was given a round of applause. In Nov 1991 at Leicester Crown Court Frank Beck was sentenced to five life sentences in prison and an additional 24 years for the physical and sexual abuse, including the rape, of more than 100 children in his care. Years later the DPP admitted that Janner should have been charged as well and no-one was able to explain why he wasn’t.
Frank Beck always maintained that he had been scapegoated for the crimes of people more famous and with more clout than he had. Peter Howarth said exactly the same thing when he was jailed in 1994. Beck was found dead in Whitemoor Prison ‘from a heart attack’ on 31 May 1994, aged 51, just over two weeks after John Smith died ‘after a heart attack’. Howarth was found dead in Wakefield Prison on 24 April 1997. So neither Frank Beck and Peter Howarth were around to name names at the Waterhouse Inquiry, particularly as Ronnie Waterhouse suddenly decided that he would be taking a holiday in Hong Kong shortly after the Waterhouse Inquiry opened. Ronnie popped off on holiday for a few weeks in March 1994. While Ronnie was in Hong Kong he met up and dined with Derry Irvine, who just happened to be in Hong Kong as well! On another occasion Ronnie was most impressed with two junior barristers of Derry’s whom Ronnie encountered – a Cherie Booth and a Tony Blair…
While Pat Pottle and I were appearing in Britain’s most famous Courts, it was all kicking off at Bangor University. It was in the early 1990s that Dafydd’s gwerin declared war on a senior sociologist at Bangor and he was wrongly accused by the gwerin – and by ‘The Guardian’ – of discriminating against Welsh speakers when appointing staff. One person caught in the cross-fire was Nerys, Merfyn’s late wife, who years later died after Dafydd’s mates at the Walton Centre found that there was no treatment for her, just after Dafydd and the gang had declared war on Merfyn and were openly telling anyone who would listen that they would get him out of his job as VC of Bangor University (see post ‘Badlands’).
Nerys became ill not long after the brother-in-law of Miranda’s policy adviser John McTernan nicked my computer.
I am currently reading more about the George Blake case and I might return to it in a future blog post.
The Home Secretary when Pat Pottle and I were making guests appearances at the Old Bailey and the Royal Courts of Justice was Ken Baker. In previous posts I have explained why I think that Ken Baker may have had something to do with the framing of and wrongful imprisonment and detention in the North Wales Hospital Denbigh of Patient F.
The DPP when I and Pat Pottle were prosecuted at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Old Bailey respectively was Sir Allan Green.
Sir Allan David Green (born 1 March 1935) was DPP, 1987-92. He was called to the Bar in 1959 and rose to become a recorder in 1979. Sir Allan resigned as DPP in October 1991 when he was spotted kerb-crawling in King’s Cross, London. He claimed that he was holding discussions with them but about what he did not explain. Sir Allan’s wife committed suicide in 1993. Or rather she was found dead and it was claimed that she committed suicide, but there were a great many things about that suicide which did not add up. See post ‘A Future Leader Of The Labour Party’.
Sir Allan continued with his career however, both prosecuting and defending in important cases, particularly murders. Between 2000 and 2004 he represented 10 British soldiers in the 1972 Bloody Sunday Inquiry. Sir Allan had been paid £1.5 million for his work on the Inquiry. Just three words:
Kincora Boys’ Home.
Sir Allan is a member of Inner Temple and remained a practising barrister in London until his retirement in 2013. Lord Elizabeth Butler-Sloss is a member of Inner Temple. Butler-Sloss was responsible for concealing the chaos that Dafydd’s associates in Cleveland caused in 1987-88 (see post ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas And The Culprits Were Named’). Butler-Sloss is the sister of Lord Michael Havers who spent a lifetime colluding with Dafydd et al and as Attorney General under Thatcher, blocked the prosecution of Westminster and Whitehall paedophiles such as Cyril Smith and Sir Geoffrey Hayman. See previous posts.
After Sir Allan resigned as DPP, Dame Barbara Mills was appointed and then Dafydd et al really celebrated. Mrs Mills’s daughter has just been appointed Chair of the Parole Board. Is it not extraordinary that Dafydd is now nearly 90 years old and all public appointments still have to be made with him in mind?
Dannie Abse’s good friend at King’s College was Russell Barton. Russell Barton was one of the 96 British medical students who spent a month in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp two weeks after its liberation in 1945 to help survivors. Barton later became a psychiatrist and in 1968 his comments about Bergen-Belson caused an enormous row when Barton wrote about the medical students’ experiences and his understanding of Belsen based on his time there, in an invited article in Purnell’s History of the Second World War. As well as stating that Bergen-Belsen was ‘not so bad’, Barton proffered the following reasons for the conditions found there:
Most people attributed the conditions of the inmates to deliberate intention on the part of the Germans in general and the camp administrators in particular. Inmates were eager to cite examples of brutality and neglect, and visiting journalists from different countries interpreted the situation according to the needs of propaganda at home.
For example, one newspaper emphasized the wickedness of the “German masters” by remarking that some of the 10,000 unburied dead were naked. In fact, when the dead were taken from a hut and left in the open for burial, other prisoners would take their clothing from them …
German medical officers told me that it had been increasingly difficult to transport food to the camp for some months. Anything that moved on the autobahns was likely to be bombed …
I was surprised to find records, going back for two or three years, of large quantities of food cooked daily for distribution. I became convinced, contrary to popular opinion, that there had never been a policy of deliberate starvation. This was confirmed by the large numbers of well-fed inmates. Why then were so many people suffering from malnutrition?… The major reasons for the state of Belsen were disease, gross overcrowding by central authority, lack of law and order within the huts, and inadequate supplies of food, water and drugs.
In trying to assess the causes of the conditions found in Belsen one must be alerted to the tremendous visual display, ripe for purposes of propaganda, that masses of starved corpses presented.
One thing that really outraged people about Barton’s article were his perceived parallels between the regimes controlling Belsen and NHS psychiatric hospitals; he noted similar harmful psychological consequences for those held within and commented that the public appeared to turn a blind eye to both. Claire Hilton, in a June 2018 article published in ‘Contemporary British History’ which reviewed the row over Barton’s 1968 article, stated that ‘While some of his interpretations of Belsen were incorrect, his experience there connected intimately with his passion and persistence to provide humane and dignified treatment and care for patients and to improve hospital facilities’.
Russell Barton failed with regard to his attempts to do that and although he did speak out regarding psychiatry he did not ever raise the matter of the psychiatric system being used to conceal organised paedophile rings, although he knew that was happening, as did his old friend Dannie Abse and Dannie’s brothers Leo and Wilfred.
Holocaust deniers cited Barton’s article on Bergen-Belsen, most famously in Did Six Million Really Die? The Truth At Last, a pamphlet allegedly written by NF member Richard Verrall under the pseudonym Richard E. Harwood and published in 1974 by neo-Nazi propagandist Ernst Zundel, another Holocaust denier and pamphleteer. In 1983, Holocaust survivor Sabina Citron began a private prosecution under s.181 of the Canadian Criminal Code against Zündel, charging him with spreading false news. Citron was subsequently joined in her proceedings against Zündel by the Gov’t of Ontario. The Supreme Court concluded in the 1988 trial that “The pamphlet Did Six Million Really Die? does not fit with received views of reality because it is not part of reality.” Russell Barton was called as a witness for the defence in the trial of Ernst Zundel.
I haven’t yet worked out what was happening here. Barton – someone who was a personal friend of a man involved with the Westminster Paedophile Ring who was from a Jewish family and using Jewish networks to conceal the offending – made anti-semitic comments in 1968 and combined them with a critique of the dreadful abuses in psychiatry but didn’t mention Dafydd and the Westminster Paedophile Ring. However his comments re psychiatry caused outrage and his anti-semitic comments were taken up by Holocaust deniers a few years later. In 1988 fire rained down on Barton once more as a result of the Ernst Zundel trial; in 1988 Dafydd et al were busy putting the boot into Mary, Alison Taylor, me and my friends, including Brown who was living in Leicester, Greville’s manor. The Greville who was mates with Leo Abse, who were both part of the Westminster Paedophile Ring and both linked to Dafydd. By 1988, I had made a formal complaint about Dafydd and the gang and it was obvious that I wasn’t going to withdraw it or go away. It was at about this time that someone tried to fracture Brown’s skull. Was someone trying to shaft Barton because of his links with organised abuse? Or was someone trying to shaft him lest he ever went one step further re his critique of psychiatry and blew the whistle on the Top Doctors who were using psychiatry to conceal the Westminster Paedophile Ring?
Dannie Abse’s fellow students at Westminster on Raffles’s ‘firm’ were Neville Stotesbury, Eric Trimmer and Norman Kreitman. Neville Stotesbury is described in Dannie’s autobiography as a Tory who was opposed to the establishment of the NHS and argued with Dannie about this. Dannie remained loyal to Nye Bevan of course and explains in ‘A Poet In The Family’ how he knew that the NHS would Help The Poor. Including those Poor who complained about Dannie’s brother’s mates sexually assaulting children. After Army service and GP experience in Wiltshire, in 1951 Neville Stotesbury joined a group practice in East Bristol (doctors Duerden, Plant, Glendinning, Dowling, and Jahans). In 1964 the group, with the exception of Dr Duerden, moved into the new St George Health Centre in Bristol. Stotsebury died in 2010.
Sir Peter Morrison’s family seat was in Wiltshire. Morrison’s father John Morrison aka Lord Margadale was the Tory MP for Salisbury, 1942-65. Peter Morrison’s older brother Sir Charles was the Tory MP for Devizes, 1964-92. Dr D.G.E. Wood, the Bangor GP who was facilitating Dafydd’s gang in the 1980s and 90s came from a medical family in Bristol; Wood’s father was a Top Doctor in the Bristol area and Wood went to Bristol Medical School. Lord David Hunt spent his time as the Tory MP for the Wirral and then Wirral West, 1976-97 and as a Welsh Office Minister and then Secretary of State for Wales, 4 May 1990-27 May 1993 and 26 June 1995-5 July 1995, colluding with Dafydd and the gang. Hunt is a lawyer who did his degree at Bristol University at about the same time that Wood was a student there. In Lilibet’s 1973 burfday honours Hunt received an MBE for ‘political services in the west of England’.
I’d love to know what those services were. Anything to do with that paedophile ring in Bridgwater targeting kids from my school then Hunt, the gang which had links to Dafydd’s gang and thrived under Tom King when he was the Tory MP for Bridgwater, 1970-92?
|The Lord King of Bridgwater|
An unprincipled git who did anything necessary to bag a place in the Cabinet and someone who has questions to answer, including about that drowning of a party goer at a Tory shagfest in the Polden Hills in the early 1970s.
Hunt is now Chairman of the law firm DAC Beachcroft’s financial services division and is regarded as a major figure in the world of insurance and financial services. DAC Beachcroft carries out work for the MDU. David Hunt grew up in Glyn Ceiriog in Denbighshire, although he went to school at Liverpool College. Hunt’s father was Alan N. Hunt, a Royal Naval Reserves Officer. One of the Sir Alec Bingley-Lord Mountbatten network then. See post ‘The Defence Of The Realm’. When David Hunt was young he joined the Young Conservatives. So he’ll have found out about Dafydd’s gang from his the big wigs in the Young Conservatives in that era, Beata Brookes and Peter Walker (see previous posts eg. ‘On The Occasion of The 70th Birthday Of HRH Carlo’)…
I don’t know whether he is any relation to the Dr Duerden who worked with Wood’s network in Bristol, but a Martin Duerden used to be the Deputy/Acting Medical Director of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board when Merfyn was Chairman and the Top Docs conspired to withold vital information and cause patient deaths to create a scandal and force Merfyn to resign. See previous posts eg. ‘The Point Is To Change It’. Martin Duerden was a smug arrogant bastard who used to do everything possible to trip Merfyn up in Board meetings and he blocked all suggestions for improvement.
‘We’re a self-regulating profession Professor Jones.’
They’re a bunch of fucking criminals who are killing patients.
I note from Duerden’s entry on the Medical Register that he qualified from Dafydd’s mates stronghold, Newcastle-upon-Tyne Medical School, in 1982 and at present Duerden has not got a license to practice.
Oh what has happened Martin? Don’t tell me that you are under investigation for very serious crimes? Or have you suddenly decided that medicine is no longer for you? It’s not as though you’ll have been hounded out for whistleblowing is it…
Dannie’s friend Dr Eric Trimmer died in 1997. He worked as a GP for 25 years and also became a well-known medical journalist. Trimmer’s books included books on baby care, childbirth, on rejuvenation, relaxation techniques and healthy eating and specifically ‘Live Long, Stay Young’, ‘A Young Man’s Guide To Medicine’, ‘What Every Woman Should Know About Her Body’ – I’d better order that one, I’ve been in ignorance for years and Eric published that in 1966 – and the intriguingly titled ‘A Visual Dictionary of Sex’ (1971)…
Dannie’s other big medical school pal Norman Kreitman was a psychiatrist who fancied himself as a poet. After graduating in 1949, Kreitman worked at a TB hospital on the Isle of Wight before training as a psychiatrist at the Maudsley, pretty much at the same time as Dafydd was ‘training’ at the Maudsley. As an older and well-known Top Doctor, Kreitman spoke about his application and selection for ‘training’ at the Maudsley and was quite frank about the laughably lax entry requirements, the bizarre interview and the fact that the Maudsley accepted all comers because psychiatry was such an unpopular speciality and the Maudsley wanted as many trainees as possible to give the institution credibility. Kreitman relocated to Edinburgh in 1966 and became the Director of the MRC Unit for Epidemiological Studies in Psychiatry. Like all the big names in psychiatry of his generation, Kreitman concealed extensive wrongdoing, including that of Dafydd et al and actually received a very poor training. Norman Kreitman is credited with coining the term ‘parasuicide’. For further info re Kreitman and his hopeless, abusive, mad colleagues at the Maudsley and elsewhere, see post ‘The Discovery Of A Whole New Galaxy…’.
When Professor Mark Williams worked in Bangor with Dafydd’s gang, there was quite a problem with patients in north Wales injuring themselves but not fatally, which was how Williams became an expert on parasuicide and wrote his book ‘Cry Of Pain’. My own belief is that there was such a problem in north Wales because patients were abused, provoked and tormented by the staff constantly and a lot of injuries were out of sheer frustration. I only know one person who was referred to Mark Williams for ‘parasuicide’ and this person knew of no-one else either, so we’ve always wondered where Williams’s data came from, just as we wondered where all the people in north Wales who recovered from depression by using Mindfulness are. We were patients throughout those years and we saw no evidence of the miracles or indeed the clinical trials.
My friend who was referred to Mark Williams ended up self-injuring more while he was ‘in therapy’ with Williams because he found Williams so difficult and obstructive. Williams was attempting to use a staged plan to reduce this man’s self-harming but the plan didn’t work and Williams acknowledged this but didn’t change the plan. So my friend continued injuring himself and Williams would then order him to Start Again. So my friend never finished the plan, it was just months and months of escalating self-harm. My friend gave up with Mark Williams in the end, but before he did, he found out that Mark was writing ‘Cry Of Pain’ in which he promoted the theory which had failed so dismally with my friend. Some five years ago my friend wrote to Mark Williams and told him in some detail that he believed that Mark had caused him quite serious damage. He was still self-harming 20 years after Mark’s ‘therapy’. My friend asked to see Mark’s data re the successful parasuicide outcomes. Mark told him that he no longer had the data. Williams bagged himself a Chair at Oxford supposedly on the basis of that data, along with his Mindfulness success. And he didn’t keep the data???
Did Mark Williams perhaps bag that Chair at Oxford on the basis of his knowledge of er Dafydd et al and what was done to a group of junior academics and media professionals in the early 1990s who had found out some of what was going on?
There is a substantial problem now with young people self-harming, many years after Mark Williams developed an effective strategy to address this. Over to you Mark!!!
Although Dannie Abse and his family maxed out on Dannie’s status as a Top Doctor at every opportunity, Dannie’s real influence lay with all the folk whom he knew from his literary and artistic circles. Even when still a student, Dannie clocked up many worthwhile contacts. Among them were Dylan Thomas, Stephen Spender and Herbert Read. Dannie knew the painter Fred James and he knew Leo Solomon who was very friendly with Leo. Dannie was friendly with Denise Levertov, a poet who had previously worked as an Angel. Denise’s mum was Welsh and her dad, Dr Paul Levertoff, was Jewish. Denise emigrated to the US. Dannie wrote theatre reviews as well as poetry and rubbed noses with luvvies. He was friends with the actors Theo Bikel, Michael Flanders and Miriam Karlin.
Dannie’s Abse’s girlfriend, who became his wife, was Joan Mercer from St Helen’s, Liverpool. When she was still at school, Joan was Secretary of the local Independent Labour Party. Joan went to the LSE; she was there while Ralph Miliband was there and like Miliband she was a big fan of Harold Laski, the man who’s influence enabled Miliband to serve in the Royal Navy, although Miliband wasn’t a British national (see post ‘What’s Left? The Politics Of Social Justice?’). Joan then worked in the library of the ‘Financial Times’.
Dannie Abse certainly knew how to pick his contacts, he knew Noa Eshkol, the daughter of Levi Eshkol, PM of Israel, 1963-69. Dannie knew Noa when she was a trainee with Ballet Jooss at Swiss Cottage. Dannie and his wife were friends with Emanuel Litvinoff, who was at their wedding.
Dannie even met T.S. Eliot when he was a student. I presume that Dannie didn’t mention that business of T.S. Eliot having his wife Viv banged up in an asylum for years, but nonetheless OK’d it with Bertrand Russell to go into the asylum on a regular basis and have sex with Viv. Bertrand will have been pulling a few strings with the Top Doctors again because in those days asylums were segregated by gender and the only men allowed into the women’s wing to sexually exploit the patients were the Angels and Top Doctors. And Bertrand Russell.
Bertrand Arthur William Russell, 3rd Earl Russell, OM FRS was a British philosopher, logician, mathematician, historian, writer, social critic, political activist, Nobel laureate and associate of Gwynne and Dafydd.
It’s Earl Russell Protesting For Peace and Equality; Don’t Mention Dafydd!
‘Ooh no, only one died, Dr DA tried so hard ewe know, he tried so hard with those young people, it was only one of them who died, verrrry sad, the nurses cried ewe know…’
Dannie’s autobiography includes a few of the highlights during his time at medical school, other than the names of all the famous people whom he hung about with. He mentions the medical student from Cardiff who shot himself dead because he feared that he had made a cinema usherette pregnant. Dannie’s girlfriend at the time – his girlfriend before Dannie met Joan Mercer – simply said ‘oh well tough shit’ when she heard about the young man’s death. Dannie didn’t ever get near to shooting himself but he did do a great deal of shagging a great many people and was encouraged in this by every male member of his family. Wilfred however, his older brother who was already working as a Top Doctor, a psychiatrist, did warn Dannie to ALWAYS use a condom. Not lest he made an usherette pregnant, but to protect against catching syphilis, which Wilfred knew was quite likely with Dannie’s sexual habits.
After qualifying as a Top Doctor, in 1950 Dannie returned to south Wales and took a job as a locum in Cardiff. By 1950, Dannie’s former teacher George Thomas was the Labour MP for Cardiff Central.
Dannie undoubtedly knew that George Thomas was molesting boys and he will have known about the trafficking of teenaged girls from Wales to England in the years leading up to the Profumo Affair (see ‘On The Occasion Of The 70th Birthday Of HRH Carlo’).
Dannie served in the RAF for his National Service, working in a chest clinic; Dannie Abse spent his entire medical career as a chest doctor, concerned quite often with TB. Dannie’s National Service included a stint in a clinic in central London, near the BBC. Dannie of course had mates who worked at the BBC and they no doubt served him well in later years whenever anyone threatened to go public on the Westminster Paedophile Ring. Dannie was also posted to N Ireland.
Dannie describes serving under the most appalling Wing Commander while he did his National Service. The Wing Commander didn’t violently assault Dannie or the other junior officers, but he was rude and bullying. Dannie explains in his book how he wreaked his revenge on the Wing Commander when Dannie was responsible for carrying out medicals on all the officers, including the Wing Commander, a non-medic. Dannie took delight in repeatedly demanding of the Wing Commander ‘have you ever had syphilis?’ and revelling at the Wing Commander’s uncomfortable silence.
This is just so Top Doctor, I witnessed this sort of thing constantly when I worked in medical research. There’s Dannie, terrified of catching a dose himself and being very, very careful because he knows exactly what the consequences will be if he does – ‘ooh Dannie Abse has the clap’, the topic of ribaldry and shaming – so he really maxes out when he guesses that someone of whom he is not very fond is hiding the yellow star of syphilis. The Wing Commander should have said ‘yes I have, so what and I’ll remind you that your job is to treat people not to pass judgement’.
There was a very unpopular consultant’s wife at St George’s who was indeed the most ridiculous snotty old cow, but no-one ever actually challenged her over her rudeness and vacuous snobbery. No, they found out from their colleagues that she’d had surgery for a uterine prolapse and pissed themselves laughing.
Ah the doctors they were wonderful!
Very often they are not, they are narrow-minded and spiteful and have the mentality of the 18 year old medical students that they once were. There often isn’t much evolution evident.
When Dannie was in middle age he knew that kids in care in north Wales were contracting syphilis, because his brother’s acquaintances were infecting them. Dannie also knew that catching syphilis is not always linked to massive promiscuity, obviously one’s risk escalates if one conducts business like Danny or Leo, but anyone at all can catch syphilis from one sexual encounter with one infected person.
Methinks the Abse Protesteth Too Much:
- ‘How Very Dare You. Just because my surname is Abse you think that I’m facilitating a pan-European paedophile gang. How Very Very Dare You. I’ve been a Top Doctor since my brother put my name down for Westminster Medical School when I was 13 and my dad owns the little cinema in Newport that George Thomas likes to visit and just because my brother is a crooked lawyer who is concealing Dafydd’s crimes and is a friend of Greville Janner and you think that… I’ve never been so insulted in all my life. I’m leaving. And anyway it’s time for my penicillin. FOR MY TOOTH ABSCESS’.
As someone who had knowledge of the symptoms of syphilis which remained untreated, Dannie Abse will have realised that Bertrand Russell almost certainly had it.
After taking sadistic pleasure in making senior officers believe that Dannie was never at risk of catching syphilis himself, that had only happened to them, Dannie was appointed Medical Officer directly responsible to Air Vice Marshal Sir Aubrey Rumball.
The Royal College of Physicians ‘Lives Of The Fellows’ Online tells of Sir Aubrey:
Campion Aubrey Rumball was the third and youngest child of Frederick William Rumball, an engineer who headed the family business, and Jane (née Watson).
As a child his curiosity was boundless, encompassing all forms of engineering, chemistry and biology. He was at Dulwich College and had little interest in orthodox sporting activities though later in life he enjoyed and did well at tennis and squash. His inventiveness showed itself very early on. Examinations were never a difficulty for him. From Dulwich he went to Guy’s, qualifying first in Dentistry in 1926 and in Medicine with the Conjoint diploma in 1930. After house appointments at Guy’s he was commissioned in the medical branch of the RAF in 1932. He soon found himself serving in the Middle East and developed an interest in tropical medicine which led to his taking the diploma in 1937. Joining the RAF was a deliberate act for him; he foresaw conflict in Europe and perhaps elsewhere, and wished to be poised to give professional help. He soon became aware of the need for training and experience in psychological medicine to enable an individual to care effectively for aircrew and assist them with their problems. This led to a period of study at the Maudsley Hospital and the acquisition of the DPM.
So Sir Aubrey was one of those who knew that the Maudsley as well as the rest of the psychiatric establishment were concealing the organised abuse of children and vulnerable people. The Maudsley and its network protected Dafydd and the Westminster Paedophile Ring for their entire careers. Sir Aubrey was a very powerful figure in that network and he didn’t die until 1975…
With this background and his own personal qualities and dedicated application to this work, he was well equipped to play his part when hostilities broke out. His first wartime posting was to RAF Hospital, Matlock (designed to be an Aircrew Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre) and then in May 1940 as officer-in-charge of the Medical Division and Neuropsychiatrist at No. 2 Mobile Field Hospital with the Advanced Air Striking Force in France.
On the fall of France, as ‘Officer-in-charge of Transport’ he spent eighteen days crossing France with a convoy of vehicles, using all sorts of ruses to avoid capture and escaping eventually through Nantes. He was specialist in Neuropsychiatry at the Officers and Aircrew Hospital, Torquay, and later at Rauceby where his work brought him in close touch with Air Marshal Harris (“Bomber Harris”, later Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Arthur Harris, Bt.). Harris valued Rumball’s work very highly and is said to have remarked that it was “worth more than a bomber squadron to him”.
See previous posts for Bomber Harris’s links to those we know and love.
While at the RAF Hospital Cairo, he published with others a paper on sternal puncture in the diagnosis of malaria, a contribution of great value. His knowledge of tropical diseases stood him in good stead in this posting, and subsequently when his work took him to Aden, Singapore and Cyprus.
Rumball succeeded Sir Alan Rook as Senior Consultant in Medicine on 1st May 1948, the chief physician post in the Service, which he held till his premature retirement in the rank of Air Vice Marshal in 1966. His time as Consultant in Medicine was a very active and productive one, though the overall numbers in the Service were dwindling and National Service came to an end in 1959. Early on he saw the need for the artificial kidney and through his recommendation a unit was set up at Halton, one of the earliest to be established in the country. Among his other achievements was the bringing into being of the unit for investigation and treatment of hypertension at RAF Hospital Cosford.
In the College he was elected MRCP in 1947 and FRCP five years later. He was a member of the panel of examiners for the MRCP. Honours and awards came to him in good measure. He had a mention in despatches in the Palestine Rising in 1933, was made OBE in 1945, CBE in 1954 and KBE in 1964. He was awarded the Lady Cade Medal of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1956 “for outstanding contributions to Medicine in the RAF”. He was honorary physician to HM King George VI from 1948-1952 and to HM Queen Elizabeth II from 1952-1966.
They don’t come posher than Dafydd’s mates!
In 1969 he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, having given invaluable service as Treasurer for a number of years. At various times he was Consultant Adviser in Medicine to BOAC and BEA, to the Air Line Pilots Association and the Ministry of Transport (Ministry of Civil Aviation) and after retiring from his post as Consultant in Medicine, Honorary Consulting Physician to the Ministry of Defence (Air).
With hair which turned white early in life, he was invariably neatly dressed whether in uniform or in civilian clothes.
So Sir Aubrey didn’t wear ill-fitting George Melly suits and have a liberal smattering of dandruff a la Dafydd.
His patience was well nigh inexhaustible and he was always concerned for the problems of his physicians…
As opposed to showing one jot of concern for patients. Sir Aubrey will no doubt have been on hand with a helpful letter or character reference on every occasion that a serious complaint was made about Dafydd…
and did all he could to fit in their postings conveniently when it was possible. In retirement he lived near Hastings. He was very skilful with his hands and did much construction work in his home himself. His inventiveness was well exemplified by his axis deviation calculator. At Hastings he had a most unfortunate accident falling from a ladder while doing something to the roof. He was unconscious and damaged an ankle and the effects of this injury dogged him for some time. One of the last contributions which he made to the College was the submission of an important collection of evidence to the Committee sitting to consider the cardiovascular fitness of airline pilots.
When I was researching Rumball, I came across the obituary of another Top Doctor who had died at approximately the same time as Rumball, in Dec 1975. But this Top Doctor, Pierre Turquet, had been killed in a car crash in France.
Pierre Maurice Turquet (13 December 1913 – 27 December 1975) was born in Wandsworth and worked as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst at the Tavistock Clinic. Turquet had a special interest in group relations. He was also a British Olympic fencer.
Pierre Turquet was the son of André Turquet (1869-1940), French-born director of the London Diplomatic Service crammer ‘Scoones’, and Gladys, (c.1889-1977), Head of French at Westfield College, London and Professor of French at Bedford College. Pierre was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he switched from history to science before completing medical training at the London Hospital. By the early 1970s, Dafydd’s gang were conducting their trafficking business on the patch of the London Hospital.
During WW II, Pierre was a Major in the RAMC, helping to develop the War Office Selection Boards. He married Clare Hunter in 1940. Pierre was subsequently seconded to SHAEF and the French War Office. After the war he was Research Psychiatrist at the MRC Social Medicine Research Unit, researching the interpersonal and intrafamily relations of young people with duodenal ulcers, before becoming a consultant psychiatrist at the Tavi in 1952. He worked as a group analyst. From 1968 to 1973 Pierre was Chairman of the Adult Department of the Tavistock.
Pierre knew the names and details of those involved with Dafydd and the Westminster Paedophile Ring and he’ll have had the dirt on everyone in the previous generation as well. Pierre was killed the year that Leo Abse finally saw his rewriting of the legislation re children in care come to fruition. Three months before Pierre was killed, Andrew Newton had made a bungled attempt to kill Norman Scott but had failed, killing Norman’s dog instead. Norman had turned up at a police station explaining that Jeremy Thorpe had hired a hit man to kill him. Newton was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life…
Jeremy’s lovely young first wife Caroline had been killed in a car crash in 1970, the last time that Jeremy began panicking seriously… See post ‘Only One Died’.
Dannie Abse edited a poetry anthology with Howard Sergeant. Dannie knew A. Alvarez, Sylvia Plath and Ann Sexton; there’s irony for you, Alvarez wrote a famous study of suicide and Plath and Sexton were both wimmin poets who suffered at the hands of Top Doctors, found no resolution to their distress by following the advice of the Top Docs and subsequently killed themselves.
Dannie worked at Central Medical Establishment, which was located opposite the Middlesex Hospital, where Gwynne the lobotomist trained. Gwynne was slightly older than Dannie; Gwynne was of a similar vintage to Wilfred, Dannie’s brother, but the Middlesex concealed Gwynne’s crimes until the day that Gwynne pegged out in 1986 and continued to preserve his reputation years after he snuffed it. Dannie will have been popping in and out of the Middlesex to visit his pals in there.
Dannie Abse lived at Ogmore-by-Sea in south Wales for the last part of his life, but for 30 years he lived in north London/Hampstead area in the thick of the Top Doctors, analysts, writers, comedians, luvvies, BBC folk and Labour Party politicians such as Michael Foot. Dannie will have known about the cottaging and outdoor sex on Hampstead Heath which was infamous, in which Michael Foot participated.
‘Syphilis, syphilis, you’ve got syphilis, Dr Abse told me!’ The whole damn lot of them were at high risk of syphilis.
Hampstead was choc full of professional influential people who knew about Dafydd et al and the Westminster Paedophile Ring. Bronwen Pugh, the daughter of Welsh judge Sir Alun Pugh, who later married Bill Astor lived at the family home in Hampstead when she was not at boarding school in Dolgellau. Bronwen’s family lived near Donald Winnicott, the famous analyst! When the Profumo Affair erupted, Bronwen was ousted from polite aristocratic society and denounced as a Welsh slapper who had set out to bag a rich man (see previous posts). So if Bronwen was so unsavoury, why were Sir Alun and his wife invited to Buck House in 1959?
Dannie was in the midst of them throughout it all and Dannie was a leading light in the London Welsh community…
When Dannie first went to London as a student, he lived in Wandsworth, but only for a short time. If the networker Dannie didn’t know then that Wandsworth was a centre of organised abuse, he’ll have found out at a later stage and he’ll certainly have known by the time that Professor Oliver Brooke of St George’s was busy there by the 1970s, along with Cynthia Payne down the road at Streatham (see post ‘The Most Dangerous Man In The World – Part III’). Dafydd’s mate John Tilley, the Wandsworth Councillor and Council leader who served as the Labour MP for Lambeth Central, DATES, arrived in Wandsworth in the mid-1960s to begin organising on behalf of Dafydd’s gang (see post ‘Lord Snooty The Third). Tilley knew Leo Abse.
After his brief stay in Wandsworth, Dannie moved into London University students’ accommodation at Swiss Cottage, where he lived for the next few years as he frantically cultivated the company of the grander and more famous down the road in Hampstead. After Dannie married, he lived in Belsize Park/Highgate, which is where Graham Chapman lived for years along with his gay partner and John Tomiczek. John was a 14 year old boy in care from Liverpool who had run away when zany Python Graham met him and took him in, although Graham told everyone that John was 17. On paper Graham spoke about his fatherly feelings towards John but people who knew Graham maintained that no, the attraction wasn’t fatherly. Chapman had been picking up underaged boys for sex for years and it was this that was the cause of all those references to Graham being ‘outrageous’ and upfront re being gay. Chapman was a Top Doctor who trained at Bart’s and openly admitted that he exploited this when he was interviewed by the police re his relationship with John. Chapman was an alcoholic who allowed John to drink as much as he liked and John too developed an alcohol problem. John died in 1992. See previous posts.
Graham Chapman died in 1989. After he died, a private memorial service was held at Bart’s, attended by the other Pythons. Including John Cleese, who has taken a keen interest in psychoanalysis for years and is a personal friend of many of the London analysts, including those with links to St George’s Hospital Medical School. See previous posts. The John Cleese who was a fellow traveller of Dr Death’s in the SDP…
Graham Chapman was friendly with David Kirke, a twat of the highest order who was a member of the Dangerous Sports Club – who later went to prison for swindling – and they both knew someone known to me in Somerset who found himself in the possession of a great deal of money in the late 1980s/early 1990s when Dafydd and the gang were in pursuit of my friends and I. See previous posts eg. ‘Upper Class Twit Of The Year – Shooting Themselves’. Dannie’s circle would have extra cause to worry because by then Patient F had told me much that he remembered from his youth in the 1960s and 70s among rock stars, hippies and artists in Surrey and London. David Hockney! Francis Bacon! Hendrix! Brian Jones! See previous posts.
He’s Sir Mick. His children went to Eton and Mick et al now mix with the best:
Throughout the 1980s and 90s there was an Empowered Service User, R, in Bethesda who was half starving and half destitute who used to tell us all that she had previously been a groupie who had sex with Mick Jagger. Gwynedd Social Services told concerned citizens who telephoned them desperately worried that one day R would be found dead that R the Empowered Service User was a nuisance and that they couldn’t be bothered with her. I watched R admitted to Ysbyty Gwynedd and then cheerily sent on her way when she very obviously couldn’t look after herself and was homeless anyway. F rang Bethesda Surgery when he witnessed R in distress in Bethesda High Street throwing herself in front of cars. Bethesda Surgery responded with ‘yes we know all about her’. R was left to carry on chucking herself in front of cars.
Wiki estimates Mick’s wealth as $360 million. Translated into Bethesda currency, that is a great deal of money. Can you spare a few pence for R Mick, that is if she is still alive? The social workers who worked for your fellow rocker Gruff Rhys’s dad Ioan Bowen Rees and were paid to look after R treated her appallingly. It was observed that it was as if they were waiting for her to be found dead. Along with all the others. All the others who talked about having sex with famous people. Since when has being a nuisance and talking about one’s ‘delusions’ that one was forced by people known to Dafydd into having sex with famous people been deserving of a death sentence?
R was not called as a witness to the Waterhouse Inquiry. If the rest of us barely knew that it was happening, R definitely won’t have known. That Inquiry took place in Flintshire while the key witnesses sat in the Hergest Unit raising complaint after complaint about the abuse of them and their friends by Gwynedd Social Services and the Top Doctors, only to be repeatedly arrested for ‘harassing’ the thugs who ran the VIP paedophile ring which Ronnie Waterhouse assured everyone did not exist…
Dannie later moved from Belize Park to Golders Green, where his next door neighbour was Bob Monkhouse! Dannie made sure that everyone knew that he lived next door to Bob Monkhouse. The slimeball Bob Monkhouse who had a long-running affair with Diana Dors who was part of ‘gangland culture’ a la Babs Windsor ie. the moll of the sort of gangsters who caused such grief in north Wales. One of the many things that I and other targets of the gang did for light entertainment was to write to Esther’s ‘Hearts Of Gold’ TV programme and ask if Dafydd could appear on ‘Bob’s Full House’ with some patients. We pretended that the letter was from Dafydd’s mole, the Bitch of Bryn Golau, Sister Janice Davies, who told lies about the patients to the police as ordered by Dafydd. Imagine my surprise when I received copies of my medical records years later and there was a copy of our ‘Hearts Of Gold’ application in there. See previous posts.
Ah well Jimmy Savile visited Bryn Estyn and witnessed the sexual abuse of boys there and he also dropped into Ashworth Hospital which was run by Dafydd’s mates whenever he felt like it.
I wrote to Esther supplying her with details of Dafydd and Denbigh before we entered Dafydd for ‘Hearts Of Gold’. I wrote to Esther when she launched her Mental Health Campaign. I did not receive a reply. See post ‘The Compassion Centre’.
I wrote to Marjorie Wallace as well, the ‘mental health campaigner’ who in the late 1980s launched SANE, a charidee dedicated to stopping the closure of asylums. I wrote to Marjorie to tell her that her support for asylums was misguided and dangerous and I gave her details of Dafydd’s crimes. Marjorie did not reply. I had no idea at the time that Marjorie was a friend of Dafydd’s gang, that she was married to a Top Doctor, was shagging numerous paedophiles’ friends on the side and that she only launched SANE to save Dafydd’s bacon as the police at the time were closing in on the Westminster Paedophile Ring. See post ‘One Dangerous Fucker’. Marjorie later hit the jackpot when she had an affair with Ma’am Darling’s ex, Lord Snowdon, the bisexual drug user and client of rent boys who was from a high profile Welsh family containing Top Doctors and lawyers (see previous posts).
Marjorie lives in Hampstead.
Honest police who did move in but who were screwed by establishment corruption: Next time that you almost make it but are faced with a backlash from the gwerin, just contact Brown and I. As two key witnesses who would have cheerfully kicked that lot to death, we would have been delighted to have assisted your investigation. It makes more sense than not warning us that we have been targeted by a gang of killers and repeatedly sending me back into their embrace when Brown and I are continually saying that we really don’t like what is going on and that we’re sure that something terrible is behind it all. You could also stop the gangsters giving people known to me huge quantities of money while I am pushed into destitution. Thanks Police! You know for next time now. Oh but there can’t be a next time, they’ve all died in comfort…
Ah the doctors they were wonderful! And Mrs Mills’ daughter is Chairman of the Parole Board! Bechod!!
Dannie’s circle of friends became ever wider. His autobiography mentions that he was pals with Peter Vansittart, the historical novelist who works include ‘Voices From The Great War’ and ‘Voices From the Revolution’ and John Watkins from the LSE.
By the time that Dannie was working as a Nice Young Doctor who was far more interested in making friends with Famous Arty People than doctoring, his sister Huldah was living in New York and his brother Wilfred had also emigrated to the US. Leo was an MP.
A gang of sodding traffickers, not just in this country but around the world, as Nicholas Parsons always stresses re the listeners of ‘Just A Minute’. Which for years starred Clement Freud, a Liberal Party Political Molester and Kenneth Williams who was seriously weird as well.
Now Clement, can you talk for one minute on the subject of ‘How Very Dare You, Of Course There Is No Wrongdoing In High Places, I’ll Sue If You Print A Word..’
Dannie soon had a young family, his son David was followed by his daughter Susanna. David Abse is now an artist.
Now here’s an interesting extract from David Abse’s biography:
[David’s mum] moved to London as a young woman where she met David’s dad, Dannie. After bringing up three kids, she became a renowned art historian. David’s maternal grandfather (Jack Mercer) had a profound effect on David’s life: He worked as a shop steward for years in the Pilkingtons’ glassworks in St Helens,
Pilkington’s at St Helen’s had strong links with Dafydd’s gang but Pilkington’s subsidiary at St Asaph in north Wales was almost an integral part of Dafydd’s north Wales branch. See previous posts.
but after he retired he went to art school every day for 30 years. He died over 20 years ago, aged 99, still a communist, determined not to get a telegram from the queen.
Despite David’s father’s determination that David should get a “proper job”, David went to Art school in Wolverhampton, and worked for many years in the voluntary sector in the UK – including several years as a union representative, and more years as CEO of Islington Voluntary Actiion Council (IVAC).
Oh dear God, the Abses got together with Margaret ‘Little Nell’ Hodge et al…
After leaving IVAC in 2005 David set up a freelance consultancy business, Toosh, that would still be thriving if not for the bizarre decision of the UK populace to put the Tories in charge of ruining the country.
Do you think that might have had something to do with the nation having had a bellyful of Miranda David? Furthermore, if your dad and his family/mates/whole profession had not been concealing the Westminster Paedophile Ring the Tory Party would have imploded in the early 1980s. But then your Uncle Leo would have probably gone to prison along with many others. Including Little Nell.
Throughout these years David continued drawing and painting part time. Six years ago David moved to France, and returned to painting, drawing and printmaking full time.
David didn’t suffer too badly under the yoke of Lord Snooty then.
Plus a bit of writing.: David writes occasionally for L’Artiste and has a regular column in The Hérault Times – and the Aude Times too. He also writes a fascinating blog.
David now lives with his family and cats and dog in a small house in the beautiful village of Bize-Minervois in the Aude. He still thinks of himself as half English, half Welsh, half Jewish and as a Londoner too.
Who happens to live in France.
It is no surprise then that many of David’s paintings focus on issues of identity. Amazingly, David’s son Marley is a maths whizz.
The ever-talented Dr Dannie also worked as a medical journalist and wrote in this capacity for the Express. One of Dannie’s scoops was his interview with Prof Paul Niehans and Dr Ana Aslan, for which he travelled to the Eastern Bloc. Niehans and Aslan had claimed to have developed a ‘rejuvenating treatment’ which involved injecting ineffective solutions into people’s faces. Dannie exposed the scoundrels and marvelled at the list of the Rich n Famous – including European Royalty – who had fallen for the scam. At no point in his 91 years, did Dannie Abse ever speak out about the research fraud that he knew so many of his colleagues were conducting, let alone about Dafydd’s ‘sex therapy clinics’ which were a cover for the activities of the sex abuse gang which Dannie’s brother Leo was facilitating.
Dannie was involved with the writers’ organisation PEN and was one of the movers n shakers behind the Poetry and Jazz concerts that were held throughout the 1960s. Wendy Savage the Top Doctor who was famously involved in a civil war with her colleagues at the London Hospital in the 1980s was married to a jazz musician. Wendy knew about Dafydd’s gang and she was friends with Professor Geoffrey Chamberlain who was friends with Ollie Brooke and colluding with the gang in south London as well as with Dafydd’s gang. Wendy was a supporter of the Labour Party and a Feminist. So one wonders why she kept quiet about north Wales, including the unlawful refusal of the Top Docs to provide women with NHS abortions throughout the 1970s and 80s, yet referring any woman who had the dosh to a butcher in Chester who was putting lives at risk and ordering women without money to stay in Denbigh for an ‘assessment’ by Dafydd? See previous posts. Wendy Savage sat on the GMC for years. The years that the GMC failed to take action against Dafydd in the face of so many complaints, the GMC which forged documents to discredit complainants…
Anyone remember George Melly, who like Graham Chapman was such a card, ooh he’s honest about his bisexuality you know? In fact Graham Chapman came out as gay on George Melly’s TV show in 1972. George Melly made comments in public regarding his enthusiasm for very young boys and when he stayed in Bangor after doing a turn at Theatre Gwynedd, George Melly offered an underaged boy money in return for sex. How did I know? Because the boy concerned told F, who told me as well as a lot of other people, because F was of the opinion that George Melly should be asked a few questions about that incident. No wonder F encountered such difficulties at the hands of Dafydd and the gwerin. The boy in question was the son of a prison officer whom he hated. He maintained that his father was violent and corrupt and when the boy was a young man he developed a serious drug problem. He was Referred to Dafydd. Of course he was. By the time that this man was in his 30s he was unpleasant by anyone’s standards. F used to avoid him and tell me to avoid him. So we did, but it was another example of a witness who developed such problems that he was isolated and eventually not believed…
I am seriously impressed at the number of witnesses to Dafydd’s wrongdoing who developed drug problems, clocked up criminal records and who encountered friends and partners who gave them endless grief. There are also more than would be expected who found themselves approached by potential suitors with STIs. Nasty STIs as well, HIV and Hep B. How on earth was it happening Dafydd???
‘This service is totally confidential.’
Oh no it isn’t, there is no confidentiality at all in the NHS and social services in north Wales, absolutely none.
Dannie knew Jeremy Robson and Boris Pasternak’s sister Lydia Slater. He knew Spike Milligan and Stevie Smith and Laurie Lee, the list of Dannie’s Famous Friends was endless…
In terms of Dannie’s pals who were in the theatre, we should remember that Ronnie Waterhouse had many friends who were luvvies and that the Garrick, one of the hubs of corruption which concealed Dafydd and the Westminster Paedophile Ring, was particularly popular with lawyers, judges and luvvies. Ronnie was a member of the Garrick, as was dear old Robin Day and Sir William Mars-Jones and many, many more…See previous posts.
Dannie Abse was a passionate supporter of Cardiff City F.C. He first went to watch them play in 1934 and many of his writings refer to his experiences watching and lifelong love of the team known as “The Bluebirds”. Another finger in another PIE…
Dannie Abse won the Welsh Arts Council Award in both 1971 and 1987 and the Cholmondeley Award in 1985. He was a Fellow of The Royal Society of Literature from 1983. In a foreword to Collected Poems 1948–1976, Abse noted that his poems are increasingly “rooted in actual experience,” both domestic and professional and many display a reconciliation between Jewish and Welsh themes and traditions. While he lived in Hampstead and assisted a pan-European trafficking gang.
For several years Dannie wrote a column for the ‘Hampstead and Highgate Express’. These articles were subsequently published in book form.
In 2005, Dannie’s wife Joan was killed in a car accident, while Dannie suffered a broken rib. Joan went the way of so many who could names names then. Dannie and Leo didn’t die in car crashes or unexpectedly peg out while in the care of the Top Doctors. Dannie lived to 91 years and Leo and Wilfred both hit 90.
Dafydd and Lucille are still going. Unless they’ve pegged out and no-one’s told me.
‘The Presence’, Dannie’s memoir of the year after his wife died, was published in 2007; it won the 2008 Wales Book Of The Year Award. Bechod!
‘The Presence’ was later dramatised for BBC Radio 4. I expect that Libby Purves reviewed it. And it was probably featured on ‘A Good Read’. Give it a few years and Dannie Abse will be the subject of ‘In Our Time’ with Melvyn Bragg, the MIND ambassador…
Dannie was awarded the Roland Mathias prize for Running Late.
In 2009 Dannie received the Wilfred Owen Poetry Award. Today We Have The Naming of (yet more) Parts, including Dannie Abse. Dannie was a judge for the inaugural 2010 Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine, the ironies of which I blogged about in post ‘The Great Stink’. I didn’t realise when I wrote that post that one of the judges was Mr Big, although I should have predicted it. If Harold Shipman wasn’t six foot under he would be presenting Dannie with his award at the Glittering Ceremony with a Royal guest.
Dannie Abse died on 28 September 2014. ‘Good riddance to bad rubbish’ as F always maintained should be engraved upon Dafydd’s tombstone.
There was of course yet another Abse brother whom I have not yet discussed in detail, Wilfred, the man who told Dannie to become a Top Doctor and qualify at Westminster Medical School because ‘Westminster is the best medical school in the world’. Ah the Abses were committed socialists who were right behind Nye! Wilfred, who dispensed crucial advice re syphilis so that the rest of the clan could point at other people saying ‘neh neh neh, you’ve got the pox’…
‘Ewe know some of those kids in the homes were wild oooh ewe know there was one there who had VD at 15, ooh Dr DA was good to them ewe know, no-one else would have had time for them…’
David Wilfred Abse (15 March 1915 – 4 November 2005) was born in Cardiff. He did of course go to Westminster Medical School. During and after WW II, Wilfred served in the RAMC. God help anyone who had caught a dose. In 1941, Wilfred participated in the examination of the Rudolf Hess – oh the ironies just never stop – who had been captured in Scotland during an unsuccessful peace mission. Wilfred was later stationed in India, eventually rising to the rank of Major.
After Westminster, Wilfred became a psychoanalyst. Dannie’s book mentions that Wilfred worked at Pen-y-Fal Hospital at Abergavenny. Pen-y-Fal was the asylum at Abergavenny and like all the asylums at the time, Pen-y-Fal contained a good many patients who had pissed off the big wigs as well as patients who for various reasons could not look after themselves. Dannie describes visiting Wilfred at Pen-y-Fal with their mum – like many asylum docs at the time Wilfred lived on site – and Mrs A being horrified at the language used by many of the patients and marvelling that her Wilfred could ever tolerate being among such animals. I’ve got news for Mrs A. A great deal of swearing does go among Empowered Service Users, but the Top Docs and Angels swear like troopers as well, but not in front of people like Mrs Abse. Empowered Service Users also get to the stage where They Don’t Give A Stuff after years of complaining through the appropriate channels about being abused and assaulted, only to see their complaints investigated by the friends of those of whom they have complained and dismissed as lies of the delusions of a lunatic. There is also a variant of Empowered Service User who Takes The Piss. I was one of them and I was friends with others. One such person was Peter Webb in Denbigh. Like the rest of us, Peter had been illegally imprisoned after a previous stint of being illegally imprisoned. Peter was a good friend to me in Denbigh and reassured me that ‘it is too late for crying’, we needed to torment these bastards. So we did.
Peter rang the police from the only patients’ pay phone and told them that we were being abused and were illegally imprisoned. The police rang the Angels who stormed the room with the phone in it – Peter and I were still in there playing dominos – and they threw us out and locked the room. By that time, another patient, Stephen, had found some loose tablets lying around on the floor in the phone room, so Stephen took the tablets.
‘There are the strictest precautions taken at all times with medication.’
No there aren’t, when F was in Denbigh he purchased class A drugs from a patient who had been given the drugs by Dafydd. F was flogged the drugs in full view of the Angels.
So there we were on the loose in the day room. Peter swore mildly and the Charge Nurse Mike Williams told Peter that he wouldn’t tolerate bad language. While Mike assisted a gang of paedophiles in illegally imprisoning their victims. Then some visitors of a highly offensive petit bourgeois patient arrived and Peter heard them remark that he looked like a tramp. Of course he did, Peter had been illegally imprisoned for three weeks and had not been offered a change of clothes. I witnessed Peter repeatedly ask the Angels if he could have a clean shirt and they simply replied that they didn’t have any spare clothes. So Peter walked up to the petit bourgeois visitors and said to them very politely ‘Why don’t you all fuck off?’
Mike Williams attacked Peter and dragged him into the male dorms, locking him in there. The petit bourgeois ones looked on, marvelling at the Appalling Behaviour Of The Loonies. The petit bourgeois woman was only in Denbigh for 36 hours or so, none of us knew who she was but she was vile. She hurled abuse at us all and pointed at Stephen and screamed at an Angel ‘you needn’t think that I’m staying in here with people like THAT’. So I said to the petit bourgeois woman ‘you’re very petit bourgeois aren’t you?’. She screamed at me that I was a bitch and a slut no less and another patient said to me ‘ooh are you a Marxist?’ Stephen then walked up to the petit bourgeois woman with a packet of cigarettes and said ‘do you want a fag luv?’
The petit bourgeois woman kept telling people that she was a ‘personal friend of Dr Dafydd Alun Jones’s former wife’ and I sat there marvelling that anyone would ever boast of any such link with Dafydd. Which ex-wife I have no idea, Dafydd has been divorced four times so there are quite a few of his ex-wives cluttering up north Wales. Being a friend of Dafydd’s ex-wife was obviously useful in north Wales though, because the petit bourgeois woman was released very quickly with Angels toadying to her and ignoring the poisonous insults and threats to which she was subjecting the rest of us.
Wilfred Abse was just a few years older than Gwynne the lobotomist and Wilfred knew Gwynne and Dafydd. Wilfred knew about the trafficking ring and was fully on board with it and there will have been victims of the gang languishing in Pen-y-Fal Hospital. No wonder they were swearing. I am wondering if Rudolf Abse and his cinema were already involved up to their necks with organised abuse in south Wales which was why George Thomas was so nice to the Abse boys and their circle of Jewish friends when he taught them. Dannie tells stories of family life when they were young and of his parents saying ‘Leo will be Prime Minister one day’. All families of course have such memories but the Abses took themselves very seriously and were rapacious with it. Wilfred ordered Dannie to study medicine and then arranged a medical school place for Dannie years in advance; when Dannie wanted to leave medical school, Leo and dad were livid and pressurised him to stay. Dannie wasn’t just overwhelmed by a sudden whim, he was not interested in medicine or in his patients and he wasn’t any good at it either. He nearly failed most exams but was allowed to pass because in that era, everyone was allowed to pass. Dannie was a luvvie and he liked hanging out with luvvies especially famous ones. But the Abses wanted doctors and lawyers and politicians in their family. Such people are very useful if there is a rapidly expanding trafficking ring and crime syndicate to be serviced.
Wilfred didn’t remain on his home turf with Gwynne and Dafydd for long. Wilfred the Psychoanalyst hit the big time when he emigrated to the US to become Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Wilfred spent the greater part of his career as Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, 1962-80. Gwynne and Dafydd’s mate Wilfred as known for his work in group therapy and hysteria and contributed to the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease.
Wilfred’s work in group analysis was influenced by S.H. Foulkes (see post ‘Ian Brockington’s Mischief’), who was in London at the same time as Wilfred Abse, along with a wider group of analysts who all used their work to conceal their own wrongdoing and to discredit anyone who raised concerns. It was Brown critiquing this discredited nonsense after I raised concerns about Gwynne that upset the Top Doctors so much. This was Gwynne and Dafydd, even if the theory had not have been discredited – which it most certainly had – those two could hardly have been relied upon to have known how to use it to assist their patients. Talk to honest, thoughtful analysts and they will admit that there is and has been a very big problem with analysts abusing and exploiting their patients and also their trainees. Gwynne, Dafydd and the Abses ran a trafficking ring and that was their only interest.
I invite readers to have a laugh at Wilfred’s Great Works:
The diagnosis of hysteria (Williams and Wilkins, Baltimore, 1950); Speech and reason: language disorder in mental disease (John Wright, Bristol, 1971); Clinical notes on group-analytic psychotherapy (University Press of Virginia, Charlottesille, 1974); Marital & sexual counselling in medical practice, edited by D. Wilfred Abse, Ethel M. Nash, Lois M.R. Louden (Harper & Row, Medical Dept., Hagerstown, 2nd edition, 1974); Hysteria and Related Mental Disorders : an approach to psychological medicine (Wright, Bristol, 1987).
Ooh Dr Wilfred, my wandering womb is playing up, what do you suggest?? Sex with Dafydd probably, knowing that lot.
I look forward to hearing Hillary or Michelle on the ‘Today’ programme next week.
Get out of this one then Cherie.
As Cerys Matthews, the daughter of a Top Doctor who was In On All Of It, sung in the midst of the huge co-ordinated attempt to eclipse the Waterhouse Inquiry with Patriotic Welsh Rock (see post ‘The International Language Of Screaming’), ‘Everyday when I wake up I thank the Lord I’m Welsh’. I carried on hanging out with Welsh people long after Cerys had pissed off to the US. Along with so many others who were maxing out on their Welshness when they lived in Hampstead or America… Er, anywhere other than Bethesda Cerys and Gruff??? Because Gruff’s dad has destroyed the place… Gruff’s dad died in 1999, just before the Waterhouse Report was published. Bethesda still hasn’t recovered from Ioan Bowen Rees and the Top Doctors.
O Jones, O Jones. But which Jones?
